The way tire buying should be. Well, a big night
(00:48):
in sports, big night in the NBA. We got some
Victor Wimbinyama stuff to get to in a couple minutes.
Got a big NFL story suddenly, the forty nine ers.
But of course you want to mention here at the
top all our thoughts and prayers and everything that main
needs after the tragedy there tonight. It's just an awful
situation and anything that you can help with this situation
(01:13):
would be wonderful. It is just another mass shooting and
we're still getting the details as they come in now.
But our thoughts here at Fox Sports Radio, of course,
are not far at all and a very top of
mind of everything going on in Maine now. Our business
is sports, of course, and we're to try to take
you away from things like this so you can hear
us knuckleheads talk about stuff like why the Knicks need
(01:36):
to move Julius Randall tomorrow because they do. Because they do.
But that's what we do here and it is a
big night in the NBA and some fun stuff to
talk about. Let's do the debut of Victor wembin Yama
here for cominguts before you get to brock Perty. Right now, halftime,
the Spurs have scored sixty eight points at halftime. I mean,
this is like three and a half quarters of a
Spurs game last year, but they lead the Mavericks sixty
(01:59):
eight six. Luka Doncic has sixteen. But the debut of
Victor Wembinyama. He has played twelve minutes and his line
looks like this, six points, three rebounds and assists, a
steal and a block. He is two out of four
from the field. Both of his makes, though, are threes.
This is Webbin Yama. He has not been as aggressive
(02:22):
as you would normally see him. And look, we saw
this in this situation that presented itself with his debut
in the Summer League, where his first game was hey, man,
I don't want to sit here and you know, show
you all my skills. I want to be a great teammate.
And then the second game was, oh, I'm gonna show
you I can dominate. You've seen that dominant part of
his game in the preseason and this is gonna be
(02:43):
one of those where it's a very quick assimilation to
the NBA for Victor Wembin Yama. Look, you're already looking
at just adding Wemby and here the Spurs are out
to elite at halftime, they're scoring a lot of points.
His impact on the team and being able to spread
the floor and do what he does. Of you guys,
you always have to out for this is gonna be immediate.
(03:03):
You know, if the Spurs aren't in the running for
the playoffs this year, there's something wrong. Not not elevation,
but this is a team that's been out of the
playoffs and eliminated before the last month of the season
basically every year the last few years. This should be
a year adding Wembin Yama. We've seen his skill set,
we see how it translates. This guy is going to
be very quickly being a fantastic player in the NBA.
(03:25):
They should be a playoff team. By that, I mean
you should be finishing somewhere in the top ten in
the Western Conference whether you're in the because if you're
in the playing round, you're in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Right.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
If you're in it's a postseason game, you're in, you're in.
They should be there, and if they're not there, there's
something wrong. But the combination of Wemby and Popovich and
figuring things out, he's always been able to figure out
a system that goes around the players he has there.
Uh yeah, I don't doubt that this is how this
team is going to be. So now make room for
another team in the playoff hunt, because, like I said,
if it doesn't happen this year for San Antonio with Wemby,
(03:56):
something's wrong. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
I mean you're getting good guard playoff and jump in
a effective thus far moving the ball, you're looking at
six or eighteen assists out of your twenty six makes.
I'll take that percentage Popovich getting the ball movement going.
If he's going to be able to step out and
hit the three with regularity, another victory there, And at
(04:20):
this point you bring him along, you know, load management
not a thing like good balance. Here. You got seven
guys that played at least eleven minutes in the first half,
but twelve minutes we were looking at probably twenty to
twenty five was I think the guestimate for most people
coming into this game. To get him acclimated and really
(04:44):
just let the hype it's gonna.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Be there all year.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
But obviously night one just sensations overload, So trying to
see if you can't gut it out and see what
he brings to the table and on both ends of
the court making his ends not overwhelming. Really, I mean,
we saw that early block of Kyrie or ring will
see more of him in the paint, I'm sure as
(05:08):
we get ready for the second half here. But uh yeah, Look,
it's it's always fun, right. We throw the term around
generational way too damn much, particularly in college football. But
here we are with with wem Min Yama, I mean,
after all of this waiting, right, Petty said it, waiting's
the hardest part man. So we're finally here opening night,
(05:30):
and Popovich is happy, and he was cursing out Steve
Kirk because some much quoted Steve Kerr at him. It's
talking about how he had a pep in his step
with this new rookie coming in, and Popovich said, hey,
blank him.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Which is good. It's good. I like that. But it's good.
I like the fact that pop is gonna matter again
because it's been three years of we haven't had a
great Greg Popovich press conference where he's the you know,
the NBA's version of Bill Belichick. We have not had
that in like three years.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
He hasn't matter here. I think he's had him, we
just haven't bothered.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Uh. Well, that's well, that's what I mean. When you're
you know, when you're ten games under five hundred, really
doesn't matter. I would see the one think, the one
thing for Wemby right, what teams might try to do
to him to try to stop him, and the you know,
trying to see you know, watching him play in the
preseason and seeing the way the NBA is going now,
the best way I can see them trying to stop
(06:18):
him other than when he's down low. He's just gonna
have to put a little bit of weight on because sure,
because the bigger players are going to be able to
pound him, but he's gonna be able to get around
them because he's got he's got a skill set. That's
that's that's gonna work. The only thing that I can
see giving him trouble is if if you hit him
with a big guard up top when he's when he's
at his most dangerous, which is the ball right around
the three point line where he can either take a
(06:40):
shot or take it to the hoop, if you can
get him with a big ish guard, I mean not
not as you know, someone who's you know, six five
sixty six that can you know, is big enough to
get in his way and have ball skills, that's gonna
make it difficult for him to try to figure out away. Okay,
well you're hitting me with this or this player. Now
I got to dish the ball away. I can't get
the shot I want. I mean I can shoot over
anybody I want, but it's gonna make it a little
(07:02):
bit more difficult on the perimeter. I don't know if
it'll work. But I think that's the one thing that
I would say right off the jump is if you
hit Wenby with that and force him to really handle
the ball on the perimeter, maybe that's where you get
him a little unsure and a little bit unsteady, and
he's got to he's got to really dig into his
game to get around that. So if that, if that
was at that's one strategy I would look at. We'll
(07:22):
see if teams actually try that with him. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
I think the other is, you know, you get to
the defensive side of things, like if he goes for
the block and you can get him off his feet,
that's an awful lot of space that gets vacated defensively.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
You saw that a couple of times.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Ball fake and he thought he was going up and
he goes for the big block and like, wow, that
is a lot of space in the lane.

Discover Bank member fdi se we'll have more NBA on
the way. But from the NFL. Everybody who thinks brock
Purty is terrible, everybody who thinks brock Purty is great, well,
you know what, we're going to get an answer to
(08:29):
that question. Wait, how brock Purty is in the concussion
protocol right now and he is iffy for their game
on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. There's a play that
we saw that likely was the play that potentially gave
him the concussion. To put him in protocol against the
Vikings pretty much a surprise though we had not heard
(08:50):
about this all week. But now here he is, that
party's in concussion protocol after playing all of Monday night's game.
Now there's gonna be questions as to when did they
know he was hurt, When did this happen? When did
he get hit?
Speaker 3 (09:02):
But well, they said it was on the plane ride. Yeah,
the first experience, and then obviously people are gonna want
to go back to the Suppruder film.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
There's a couple of plays, you know, there's a couple
of plays where where maybe when he took one of
the quarterback sneaks, because they tried a couple of sneaks
in the second half, but it's it's hard to pin
down exactly when it happened. So here's Perdy, who now
may wind up missing the game, which means Sam Sam
Sam Sam Sam Sam Darnald is going to get to
take over if Perdy can't play this week. And again,
(09:34):
it's very early and it's still Wednesday. He's still got
a bunch of days to figure things out. But you
gotta pass benchmarks and andy by the time you get
to Friday and Saturday. So chances are we could see
Sam Donald this weekend for the Niners. Now, what will
happen if we do see Sam Donald. I'm glad you
asked me, because I can tell you Sam Donald will
(09:54):
be fine, right, He will be fine as the Niners quarterback,
and he will move the team a little bit. He
will miss open receivers because that's what Sam Darnald does.
And I don't mean miss them throwing. I mean, he
just won't see them. Oh wait, but your third read
the guy was wide. Oh yeah, I didn't see that.
That's that's Sam Donald, right. I don't know that he
he knows what he sees downfield. He goes his progressions enough.
That was his problem with the Jets, that was his
(10:15):
problem with the with the Panthers. He didn't see open guys.
He couldn't get down and find and find the right
place to go to with the football a right amount
of time. Now, but here's the thing. When you're throwing
the ball to Christian McCaffrey out of the backfield, it's
going to make you a better player. When you have
a great tight end in George Kittle, it's gonna make
you a better player the downfield passing game, trying to
get the ball deep down to Brandon Ayuk or Deebo
(10:36):
Samuel if he's back, and that's not going to be
exactly what Sam Darnald does. So he'll be able to
move the team. And then, because look, the Niners are
still terrific offensively, and things will be okay, and we'll
watch Donald do it and it will be similar to
brock Purty. But it won't quite be as good as
brock Purty. So if you're looking to find out, just look,
look where is the guy. Look we've told you brock
(10:58):
Purty is an elite game manager. That's what he is,
and that's the player he is, and that's his ceiling
in the NFL. And you've seen enough for him to
play to understand that that's kind of what it is.
He's not an MVP player. He's not a guy that's
gonna win games with five touchdown passes a throw for
three hundred and thirty yards. The Niners aren't built like that.
They're not built. They're not gonna get make him throw
the ball forty five to fifty times a game, it's
(11:20):
not gonna happen. So when you understand that about brock Purty, okay, well,
but how do we going to prove it? Well, when
you see Sam Darnold play and be close to the
player perty is, you're gonna understand the system works for
brock Purty. He's where he should be. He is in
a great spot. Some quarterbacks spend their whole career they
don't get in the right system for them. Perty has
been able to get Lucky to go from mister irrelevant
(11:42):
to us to a system that fits what he does well.
And now you're gonna see more of a Okay, I
understand the mean or the media and where Brock Purty is.
I get where we can slot him in the NFL,
which is right around league average, And it's gonna get
pumped up because he plays for the forty nine ers,
who are a great team but great team game. You
can win a super Bowl now with an average quarterback
(12:04):
in twenty twenty three because the average quarterback quarterback play
is really really good. Man, the top two thirds of
the league, the quarterback play is fantastic. So Brock Party
being a middle of the pack quarterback, yeah, it's good
enough to win. But to understand just where he fits.
We're gonna get clarity on that. And it's weird, but
we're gonna get it. If Sam Darnold plays in his place.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Well, it's funny.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
I mean.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
One of the themes of last night's show was about
hot take nonsense and throwing stuff up against the wall
knowing that it ain't gonna stick. You'll just get to
the next thing and the next lump of whatever you're
throwing up against the wall, Right that's just the way
our business works. Your next prediction. And so for brock Purty, yeah,
(12:45):
the hype was there because, well, you could put up
some pretty basic stats to support it. He's winning. That
cures everything, doesn't it. Whenever anybody goes on a winning streak,
you're the greatest.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
How do you just that? You don't?
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Right, we won. It doesn't have to be pretty. I'm
leading you to victories. Isn't that the main objective? That
you know? You can have your qbrs, You could do
all that other nonsense, and you can have a bunch
of guys go to the whiteboard and tell me how
many would be interceptions, there were, how many reads you missed,
how many open receivers you should have hit instead of
(13:22):
making up a degree of difficulty. All that nonsense doesn't matter.
If you win, you move forward. And for brock Perdy,
you take a couple of losses and now you probably
look at this one in a much different lens, given
the fact that the two interceptions came long after these
would be plays that we're talking about of where the
possible concussion occurred, right, So it changes that in terms
(13:47):
of clarity and evaluation and what he might have seen
through that process. Then eventually we'll get the retinal camera
so we'll be able to see exactly what he was
throwing to and what he thought he saw. But we
we have the for brock perty, We've talked about it
all along, like how good was he? You put him
in the mids and upper mids with the team, Like
(14:11):
it's folks that were putting him in the top five,
top seven, ten, what everything? Really we're escalating it that fast. Yeah,
he's winning, but there's a lot of a lot of
other things going on to make that happen. So for
Sam Donald, here's your opportunity and more for you to
cry a little bit, just like you did when poor
Zengis worked you tonight as the Celtics took down your nicks.
(14:33):
If you watch Sam Donald go out, Dominate.

I'm no longer, but I'm no longer scared that Donald's
gonna go crazy. And look at this. Four touchdowns from
Sam Donald. Look at that, Oh, get a seventy eight

Speaker 3 (17:06):
Lot of wildcard teams have made noise. Man, come on, just.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Shot what happens man. I'm not hating man, I'm just saying.
I'm stating the fact you got eighty some odd win
teams in the World Series. It was your toe.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
I've not lied, yes, but it was your tone. You
were dismissive and hateful.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
My tone was fine. I was not dismissed. I've never
dismissed him. So just stop it. There we go. So
see that was subtle right there. That was really well done.
I like that the Mets are gonna interview Craig Counsel
to be their new manager, a story that we've been
waiting for, considering that David Stearns of Sternsy and the
pope running the Mets now random Milwaukee Brewers for a
(17:47):
long time, Counsel was the guy. If Craig Counsel was
gonna stay manager of the Brewers, they probably would have
signed him already here he is out in manager free
agency and Craig Counsel. Okay, what he's done. He's been
a great man. Everybody loves him. I'm excited. And all
I could think of today after the story broke was,
how are the Mets gonna screw this up? How are
(18:07):
the Mets gonna screw this up? How is this? How
are we going to screw up getting a guy that
everybody thought we're going to get because we're bringing in
the guy that hired him, that kept him there, that
had great success with him. How are the Mets gonna
screw this up? How are we going to turn this
into Craig council interviews with Mets likes team uses the Mets'
leverage to get a bigger, better deal out of the
(18:28):
Milwaukee Brewers, which is where he lives, where his kids
go to school, where he spends the off season. How
are the Mets? How are the Mets gonna screw this up?
That'shere'm Matt right now. How is that gonna happen? Well?
Speaker 3 (18:37):
That is the curiosity. I mean, your guy Morosi would
have a lot of sway here with the with Sternsey
starts the boat and certainly their past relationship is the
thing everybody's leaning on saying, all right, it's it's it's
gonna be easy, it's gonna be done. It's all about
uprooting family, all about resetting, and really for the Mets,
the clarity and clarification of some of what we got
(19:02):
when they got rid of some of those high price
spare parts.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Right as to.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
What the spending ideas are for the off season. Are
they gonna go all in on any top non free
agents or is it a pairing down? What's the future
of Pete Alonso? Is the polar Bear staying or going?
If not, if he's not gonna be there, what does
that mean? Like I think, if you're Craig Counsel, you
walk in and you're playing a game of twenty questions
(19:29):
before they get to ask you a damn thing.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
Wow, I'm making demands right now.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
You just no, no, you want you just want some clarity, right,
I mean, because there's been a lot of speculation about
anybody that makes you know, over five bucks in that
organization since they divested, right, and it's like, wow, you
know what they told me the the plan for the team? Right,
Wasn't that the story we got out of De gram
insurres Er after they left was you know they're they're
(19:55):
going in a whole other world and a whole other direction. Well,
what's that direction? Give me some player?
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Listen. I'd like to tell you, but I can't. What's next? What?
What do you? You want to hire me for this job?
What's that? This is like when Billy goes into uh
Steve Shott's office to get more money and moneyball, I
need more money? What else can I help you with today? Billy? Like, Okay,
I'm not exactly what else gonna help you with today?
All right?
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Fun asked and answered, but legitimately it's the all right,
what's what are your plans? Are we going full kids
and building back and then maybe sprinkle in somebody if
we're kind of competitive? Are we looking at the Diamondbacks
and saying, hey, we kind of dig the way they
battled and how much the Cubs had to collapse to
let them into the playoffs?
Speaker 1 (20:40):
Don't forget about that?
Speaker 3 (20:41):
Spoken like a south side a still salty over his
one hundred plus losses. Yeah, like you you had everything
on a silver platter and you went played terribly.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Uh, but just I'll tell you it'll be a reload
on the fly. And and the Mets only said what
they said to Verlander and Surzer to so they could
get rid of them. So they get say listen, so
they listen. You know we're gonna do something different next year.
Please accept the trade. Okay, great, if you're going in
a different direction, yes, I'll accept the trade. Great, Because
that then there's no way the Mets sit back and go, Okay,
(21:13):
now we're on a three year plant. No, for sure,
they're gonna reload on the fly. They're not gonna spend
like they did. Because, as we've seen now, one of
the big lessons the Diamondbacks and Rangers have shown us,
basically the Diamondbacks is that, hey, you don't need to
spend to go crazy win one hundred games.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
You wasn't gona say the Rangers spent a lot of money.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Yeah you win eighty you know you win eighty five,
or or just going crazy to win a bunch of games.
Because look, the Rangers spent a lot of money. They
get in the playoffs with ninety wins. Right, the Diamondback
they look like they're they look like the you know,
the fifty four Yankees, compared to the Diamondbacks who got
in with eighty four. But you know, you're not seeing
teams that are gonna go crazy spending all that money
to win one hundred games. It's let's just get in
(21:49):
the playoffs. That that's what it's gonna be. And that's
and that's the big that's the big allure. It's gonna
be a reload on the fly now, not to be outdone. Oh,
the Mets are getting headlines. Well, the Yankees decided, hey,
we want to be talked about too, And maybe I
am now serving Mike Harmon as the de facto GM
of the New York Yankees. Your stands, because what did
(22:11):
I to trades? Jerry, I'm in on trade? What did
I say the Yankees needed to do this offseason? They
got to change their approach, change everything.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
Half player stands, do the opposite.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
Half. The players on the on next year's opening day
starting lineup need to be new, They need to be replaced.
You need a new manager, you need a new GM,
you need change, you need big change. And it looked
like the Yankees weren't gonna do it right. Brian Cashman's
coming back. Aaron Boone is coming back. The players look
like they're all coming back. The rest of Major League
Baseball saying, oh, shoot, the Yankees weren't good enough this year.
(22:45):
They're bringing everybody back. All right, Great, they're gonna suck
again because the Yankees were doing the wrong thing. They
need bold strokes, they need something big. And today we
got the story that the Yankees have had preliminary discussions
with the Padres about Juan Soto. Now it's still early
and who knows where it's gonna go, but the Padres
(23:05):
are motivated. They've seen spending a lot of money is
not guaranteeing them getting in the playoffs. They had how
many guys? Can they give three hundred million dollars too?
Because they've got a lot of guys of contracts like that,
and Jan Soto is gonna be due in a year,
so yeah, maybe they do want to look at moving in.
There's a little bit of sense of urgency in trading
Juan Soto, and here are the Yankees saying, hey, Wan Soto,
(23:26):
New York Yankee. Okay, this is the kind of move
they need to get in on. This is what I
mean when I say maybe I'm the GM of the Yankees,
because I said they need to do this and need
to be bold, and here they are kicking the tires
on Juan Soto. This is how you have to do it.
This is how you get better. If you're the Yankees,
you have to suck it up with the money that
you're spending on guys that you shouldn't have spent on
Gin Carlos Stanton and other guys and say, you know what,
(23:47):
we just have to keep going and spend more. We
gotta spend more. We have the money, we're making the money.
We just have to go spend more. We just have
to figure out a way to get through these next
couple of years until we can get out from under
a couple of really bad contracts. But we gotta overspend.
We gotta go the Mets route a year ago where
Steve Cohen says, screw it, I'm gonna give money to everybody,
because how else you're gonna get better. The Yankees aren't
(24:09):
getting prospects. The guys coming up aren't hitting three point
fifty anymore. They're just not getting that you need to
flux an injection of talent as quick as you can
and getting Juan Soto, who is a young player that's
gonna be do a lot of money that the Yankees
clearly will have enough money to give him. Who wouldn't
want a twenty four to twenty five year old kid
for the next ten years with the skill set Juan
(24:30):
Soto has hitting in Yankee Stadium, hitting with the right field,
that's very friendly. Of course you want that. Of course
you want that. This is the best thing the Yankees
can do. And maybe now I'm running the team, they'll
listen to me. If you have any questions about the Yankees,
I can get them to Randy Levine or Brian Cashman,
because they're doing what I said they were gonna do,
and what they needed to do was get bolden. Here
(24:51):
they are kicking the tires on jan Soda. Well.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
First off, happy birthday, Juan Soto turns twenty five today,
So here's your birthday a present you may get out
of the toxic environment that is the San Diego Padres.
There's your there's your birthday gift. Right Because we heard
nothing but discord, disharmony, hatred, finger pointing, saltiness, and uh
(25:16):
obstinacy in dealing with local media, UH and with each
other throughout the season. So it led to a disastrous year.
And just like your mets, it's about a sloughing off,
a shedding of contracts where you can and in this case,
knowing that you're stuck on a couple of those one
that was inked before a suspension, uh that you then
(25:38):
go and look and say, hey, we can't pay for
another one, so let's go divest this particular asset and
get whatever we can in return and hope that the
Yankees are willing to overpay because they.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
Have a great quote here from wan So TOA. But
I gotta go with it. I'm looking forward another year.
Bob Melvin has been the guy I've wanted my Oh
sorry too soon? Look at you?
Speaker 3 (26:00):
You?
Speaker 1 (26:00):
That was just like mean, oh come on, I had
to do that.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
You walked in like it was uh I know, holds
bar match and you went underneath the the mat and
all of a sudden, there you busted out the kendo
stick and started going to town.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
I'm excited for another year of Bob. But wait what wait, wait,
hang on, never mind, wait, delete delete.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
Wait I was on vacation. What the hell happened? I
come back and wait a minute, people sending me happy
birthday messages and this is mixed in.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
What the hell from Bob? It was great coaching? You said, wait,
what what? What the hell has happened? It's a video
message for Bob. Hey what happy birthday? Oh go on
boy boy about about boy? Uh? Twitter it out about
(26:50):
a Fresco. Mike has swollen down to Jason Spencer with
Mike Harmen live the tirag dot com studio. So there
you'll look. The Yankees. They be coming back, Mike. This
is this would scare everybody in Major League. We're gonna
turn it into the Yankees again. We're gonna get our
identity back and we're gonna spend and bring in star players.
And as soon as I saw that, like a chill
went down my spine to they go. And the Yankees
are gonna do this, aren't they. They're gonna wind up
(27:11):
getting one Soto and they're gonna find a way to
all float Stanton's contract. And somehow the Padres are gonna
take it. And I don't know how, but they're gonna
make it work. Somehow. Maybe Derek Jeter starts running the
Padres and he bails the Yankees out again. I will
take this guy. But somehow that's they're gonna get one.
So they're gonna upfloat you in Carlos Stanton and have
all kinds of money to spend.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Nah, Jeter's having too much fun at Fox and starring
in commercials with.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
His wife and kids. That is an easier life, I
will say.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
It is a much easier life than try and you know,
just put put some equity in, go to the Magic
Johnson route, and then you can hang out on TV
or on Twitter. You don't know, you don't have to,
you know, deal with the headaches. You don't have to
be the fall guy anymore.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
We need a Padres fan to find out what they
think about this development and to tell us what's trending
in the wide world of sports. It's too bad we
don't know.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
Wait a minute, I you know I did this?
Speaker 5 (28:05):
Is I disown that team now?
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Guys?
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Wait what? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (28:09):
Yeah, yeah, you know they asked me. This was before
I worked with you.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
I did two games pre and post with the Padres
and they didn't want me back. And so I have
now come to the realization, considering all of the other
drama that's gone on now that I'm changing teams.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
What you did? Why Dramahawks. Somebody, what happened? What happened?
Speaker 3 (28:29):
No?
Speaker 4 (28:29):
I mean I essentially, you know, for a couple of things.
When you grow up in San Diego, you have to
understand that you're going to be suffering as a sports
fan because there's this All these teams talk about jinxes,
the jinx that is San Diego, San Diego because it's
such a nice place to live. By the gods that
(28:49):
govern sports and who wins, they will not let San
Diego win a title because you can't live in the
America's finest city and have a title because it's too
much goodness in one place.
Speaker 5 (29:03):
You see what you see what I'm saying, guys.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
I think you're trying to sell that.
Speaker 5 (29:07):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
So all of this is to say I I would
consider myself, and I'm being serious, a major League Baseball
fan free agent. So if you guys want to woo
me with your teams or throw me some ideas, I'm
up for it because I'm free and ready to mingle.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
Jason, would you like o Brian Finley.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
You need like you need like bumble for baseball team?
Speaker 3 (29:29):
Yes, that's fine, look at you dropt and pending.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
There's always plenty of room on the Mets bandwagon. But
if you really want disappointment, roots for the White Sox.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
Oh oh shots taken.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
Hey.
Speaker 4 (29:43):
As far as the yes, well, you know, as far
as the NBA is concerned, we just wrapped up the
third quarter in San Antonio. Victor wembam Yama has six
points and hasn't scored in the second half. Ninety six
to ninety one. Espers are trailing the MAVs. The only
other game that's still going on. The Clippers are taking
a baseball bat to the Trailblazers sixty two to forty four.
(30:06):
Former UCLA brew and Russell Westbrook eleven points, seven assists.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
There's about a minute left in the.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
Second quarter there then everything else has gone final and
will pick out some of the important ones, of course,
nothing more important than a Knicks letdown one way to
one oh four. They slip up at home against the Celtics.
Christops porzingis thirty points in his Celtic debut and Jason
Tatum contributing thirty four points and eleven rebounds. The Pacers
(30:33):
bludge and the Wizards one forty three to one twenty.
Indiana scoring thirty nine points in the second quarter alone.
The Hawks fall short on the road, one to sixteen
to one ten to the Hornets, twenty five points for PJ. Washington.
The Nets stutter at home themselves, one fourteen to one thirteen.
The Cavs got the best of them heat one oh three,
one oh two. That's another one point score in a final.
(30:55):
They did it against the Pistons vam Adebayo twenty two points,
eight rebounds. The Wolves despite twenty six points and fourteen
rebounds from their star Anthony Edwards Falter ninety seven to
ninety four. The Raptors get it done the Bulls one
twenty four to one oh four. They are delton l
to the forehead and the Thunder are victorious.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
There.
Speaker 5 (31:17):
Pelicans over the Grizzlies on eleven to one oh four. CJ.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
McCollum twenty four points and six assists and Harrison Barnes
thirty three points. And don't count out those Kings, Jason
and Mike. They come up with a big win one
thirty to one fourteen against the Jazz. As the NBA
is on its way, and even though Jason and Mike
your knicks as far as you, Jason, have a loss,
(31:42):
they can still win eighty one games and finish the
season eighty one and one.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
And that's what I'm thinking that's going right now, eighty
one and one. That's it.
Speaker 5 (31:51):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
It's what we're doing. Yeah, that's what we're doing. Y.

NBA on the way coming up in a little bit.
Update on Victor Wembin Yama update if Julius Randold's been
traded yet, But coming up next, A big controversy in
the NFL is raging and Mike and I can tell
you exactly how it's going to end. That's coming up
next right here, Jason to Mike Tirac dot Com Studios.

This is Fox be sure to catch live editions of

Speaker 1 (32:49):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon
Live from the tiraq dot com studios. More on Opening
Night in the NBA coming up in a couple of minutes.
If you had the under on the prop bet for
Wemby's total points in Game one, you're feeling pretty good
right now. I are right now six points as we
(33:09):
get into the fourth quarter for Victor women Yama. But
the drama of Deshaun Watson has taken yet another turn,
and you've probably heard all the drama going on to
surrounding Deshaun Watson's agent and Brady Quinn here at Fox
Sports Radio. And look, I didn't think it was a
big deal because look we've said the same thing. Does
(33:30):
Deshaun Watson really care? How much does he care about
about playing? Is it a big deal? Does he care?
But we get an update today that another week, Deshaun
Watson will not play quarterback for the Browns and PJ.
Walker will start again. In fact, instead of practicing with
the team, Deshaun Watson will focus on rehab this week.
(33:52):
He's got a rotator cuff strain and his throwing shoulder.
He missed a couple of games. He was given a
clean bill of health, had a clean MRI, but still
is too hurt to play. And this has been a
really weird topic the last few weeks. Why is Deshaun
Watson away from the team. Why is he not playing?
What is happening? And you can hear all the arguments
you want, right, you can hear well, he's got two
(34:13):
hundred and fifty three million dollars guaranteed. The guy doesn't
care he could play or not play, right he sees it.
He's never gonna win over NFL fans. And now I'm
just out and I'm gonna do whatever i want to.
But whatever side you're on on this, what you believe,
What is the truth with Deshaun Watson and the Browns,
and what's at the root of Watson. The bottom line
is this. I'll tell you exactly how this is gonna
(34:35):
end with Watson. We told you it's gonna end for
Brandon Stanley and the Chargers yesterday. Now we'll tell you
how this Deshaun Watson story ends, either after this season
or sometime next year, the Browns are gonna make that
big decision. They're gonna gulp, they're gonna breathe in deep,
and they're gonna release DeShawn Watson because you're not getting
(34:56):
good enough quarterback play from him to justify everything else.
You're not getting that to justify the bad pr that
you're undergoing. You're not getting enough play to justify He's
not even on the field when he's got a clean
bill of health. He's not even on the field, which
you know his teammates are like, dude, everybody, we're all
dinged up to we're on the field playing. We want
to win. Get on the field with us. This is
(35:18):
just going in a really bad direction, but it's going
to happen because this just can't continue. You sign him
to a lot of money. You gotta own it. There's
nowhere you can go right. You're paying him a ton
of cash. You've given up free eight, you've given up
draft picks the next couple of years. But eventually this
is gonna be untenable and you're gonna have to pay
him all his money and you're gonna release him, and
(35:39):
the Browns are gonna have a couple of years of
getting by. They're gonna try to draft a quarterback late
in the draft this year, or see if they can
get a free agent for not a lot of money,
like a Baker Mayfield type. Not Baker Mayfield bringing him back,
but a guy like, hey, who can we sign to
a one year deal he can come play here. They're
gonna try to find some way to get that bridge
quarterback while they're eating dish Sewn Watson's money and try
(36:01):
to compete that way because this, with everything going on,
this can't continue. Deshaun Watson that the fans can't stand
it anymore. You know that his teammates are wondering what's
going on. He's not on the field what he can be,
and he's not playing well when he is on the field,
and when he is on the field, he's costing them
with penalties and bad play. There's no way for this
(36:23):
to go on. You just can you see him playing
quarterback for the Browns the rest of this year and
next year, all the way through to the end of
his contract. It's not gonna happen. Maybe it's at the
end of They'll go through this year and try to
make this year whatever it's gonna be with Walker and Watson.
Maybe if he gets back in and plays at some point,
but sometime after this year or sometime during next year,
they'll make that big, tough decision, swallow their pride and
(36:45):
everything else and eat a lot of money, and they'll
wind up releasing him. He's not seen the end of
this contract.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Took a giant push, and he becomes the example that
folks will cite when it comes to guaranteed contracts and
what it does to a franchise assuming there's no turnaround
and long term success. Medically cleared to play. We've watched
that for years. You know that's got a giant asterisk
after it. But certainly you watched as I did, and
(37:14):
we know many of people that were affected in the
fantasy world because they played him. I had big bye
week and injuries and effectiveness elsewhere. It's like, all right,
we'll take the shot. He's active against Indianapolis, and then
you get word, is it a head injury, no shoulder MRI,
no more damage, all of those details, and they've given
(37:36):
a ton of details now in the process, and this
was the earliest that they've declared him out no additional damage.
But you know what We're going to declare him out
on Wednesday this week, as opposed to grinding towards the weekend,
because I know, I'm Arii Cooper first and foremost guy
looking to make sure his numbers don't fall off a
cliff is a guy raising his hand wondering what the
(37:59):
hell's going on there? But you know what it does
set up, though, Jason, depending on what happens in Arizona.
Right Kyler Murray practiced in full on Wednesday. Who knows
what that means in terms of his reactivation and implementation
into the Cardinals starting lineup. They may have a Spider
Man meme moment next week when we've got PJ. Walker
(38:21):
against Josh Dobbs.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
Wow, that's one of those take the undergames. PJ Walker
Josh Dobbs slash take the Under. But two guys that
they sent away, yeah yeah, or one that they sent
away the other who's now their starter indefinitely. Look, and
I know that it's a money thing, and his dead
cap situation right now is like two hundred million dollars
(38:44):
in a year from now because they've decided to not
pay him money the first two years, which is just stupid.
But there's ways around that money. There's way Okay, if
we guarantee you all the money, we're gonna convert this
money here or do this or do that. There's ways
around that. There's ways around to figure it out, spreading
it out so they can get a couple of years. Look,
it's an awful contract, but as we've seen, even with
Aaron Rodgers, you can get out of the money.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
But yeah, still the guy that people wanted, yeah, I mean,
but he might not have wanted the guy they wanted.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
His arm. Yeah, so it just can't continue. Man, I
don't know how this guy. I mean, I can't see
how it gets to Thanksgiving much less, you know, you're
talking about another couple of years. How we get through
another holiday? Halloween might be it, Man, I don't know
how that happens. Can you return a quarterback for spiite?
Oh well, if it's to Costco, I think you can,
(39:30):
because you can return anything to Costco.
Speaker 3 (39:32):
Or if the uh do you have to go to
an independent doctor is not passing your physical enough.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
To pass. I'm gonna keep going to doctors until I
find one that passes me. I don't care what he does.
