Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome in side final hour tonight to The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Hey body,
live from the tire rack dot Com studios tire rat

(00:50):
should be. Game one of the World Series an absolute
thriller and incredible game. The Diamondbacks had a five to
three lead for about three and a half hours and
then Paul Sewald x MET who started metting, comes in
to close it out for the Diamondbacks and the ninth inning.
He had a really good posts. He's been very good

(01:11):
since leaving the Mets. X met now good walks the
lead off batter, Corey Seger takes him deep to tie
the game at five apiece, and then a doulas Garcia
two innings later the walk off bomb. The Rangers take
Game one of the world series by a final score
of six to five. And you know there's a big
takeaway here from Garcia. We gotta get to But you know,

(01:33):
seeing this world series, this kind of reminds me like
it's an NBA Jam World Series because it's really gonna
be Seeger and Garcia against Carol and Marte. That's really it.
That're the only guys that can come on in though,
well that's like big, like look he's heating up, you know,
the big dunks with the flames going in the base fire.

(01:54):
It's an NBA Jam World Series with these four guys
being the only guys.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
I kind of dig that that. Or we get him
to settle it in the ring at pick your pay
per view event of choice, they're gonna be locked inside
the steel cage. Yeah, it's it's really amazing, right, is
all the tension and you're trying to find X factors,
like this guy's gonna be important, that guy's gonna be important.

(02:20):
Maybe Seawald was a guy that you circle just saying, hey,
he's been nails right, six for six, save opportunities, eleven
strikeouts against one walk, and no, that's it. That's gone
overthought it. It comes back to the heroes of the day.
I mean I sent you, guys the quote that is
going around from David Ortiz in the post game on

(02:42):
the Corey Seeger bomb quote. You pitch around Tavares and
then you give a cookie to the cookie monster.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Come on, man, I mean you could. This is a
world series where okay, we have to watch the first
inning because all four guys are coming up, right, because
Carolyn Martin hit won two and Seeger and Garcia hit
two and four. Okay, so I gotta watch a first inning.
Then I can go away for a little bit because
all these other guys are hitting that aren't gonna get

(03:09):
on base and aren't gonna really do anything. So I
can go. I can skip a couple of innings and
then come back when these guys are coming up again.
Skip a couple innings, come back, linings, come back. If
that works, it's the guys.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
You understand an alert on my phone for the Elite Foursome.
They you know, the four horsemen of the World Series.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
I have a four person alert and it's when these
got up, that's what I want to see. But look,
but you know, because you know, think about it for
a second, Right, the first half of the game, Diamondbacks
were up five to three. Why because Carol and Marty
were better than Seeger and Garcia. Right. They each had
run scoring hits. Carol scored a run. Between the two

(03:46):
of them, they had four of the five RBIs for
the for the Diamondbacks. But what happened the last half
of the game of them got on base, right, You're
talking the last seven innings of the game. Neither of
them got a hit.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Right.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
We talked about that being the Bets and Freeman of
this team. But the Rangers win. Why because late? Who
was better? Seeger and Garcia? Right. Segars one for four,
he scored three runs, had the big two run homer.
Garcia three for four, big two RBIs the game winning
home run, also got hit by a pitch. Their two
stars were better and better late than the two Diamondback stars.

(04:22):
And I know that we're talking about baseball, it's more
than two, but this really is it? The two guys
you absolutely have to stop on each team, and that's
really it. Nobody else scared you. Nobody else is hitting great.
Get you get past Garcia, it's a bunch of guys
that are hitting two hundred. Same thing when you get
past Martine, it's a bunch of guys at in two
hundred two fifty if you're lucky. I mean, these are

(04:42):
the guys you gotta stop. And it's pretty easy. Arizona
won the first five innings because their best two players
were the best, and then Texas won the last six
innings because their best two players were the best. It's
pretty easy. Crazy, crazy, because that's usually not how baseball goes,
but that's how it went tonight. NBA jam, everybody, NBA jam. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
And then, as you mentioned, Carol and Marte did their
damage early, Marte winning fifteen thousand dollars Taco gift cards
to five lucky people that pulled the Taco Fractor card
and everybody got tacos because there were stolen bases all around.
At least in theory. You know, we get into the

(05:20):
whole app and downloading and redeeming and all that nonsense,
but you know, everybody celebrates, at least in the moment,
but later on relievers for Texas did the job slowing
down Carolyn Marte to your point, and not a lot
of power or production except for the fam home run
for the Rangers. It just goes back to why why

(05:43):
are you playing and pitching or challenging the hottest hitter
in the game. And Garcia initially, like I said, when
I saw it live, it's like, well, man, he just
missed that right, he was a little late on it. Whatever,
Now he muscles it out and then we get into
celebration mode for my pick, the Texas Rangers.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
Oh man, look great pick, and you have Seeger as
your MVP. That could clearly be it. Although I gotta
say Garcia's probably got the got the leg up on
him right now. But that's that's what I don't I
don't understand, And this is why I sometimes I know
I can manage a baseball team when there's that few
guys that can hurt you, right when they're in a lineup,

(06:28):
there are that few guys that canna hurt you. You
don't give him a chance to beat you. You know,
you have to fight, Okay, if they're that hot, you
live to fight another day. And of the four players.
Of the four of them, the hottest is easily a
Douleus Garcia. Look, look at the RBIs. The guy is
amazing everything. Every time he comes up, he's in his zone.

(06:49):
He's the Randia Rosarina from twenty twenty. But now I
don't understand why they pitched him. And I said at
the beginning of the game, after his single to start
the game, it's okay. The guy is to hot. He
doesn't see a strike from me the rest of the series.
Whenever I can, I put him on first base. And
you know me, I don't like walks. But with a
guy like Garcia, why would you give him a chance

(07:10):
to kill you? Because he is just that hot right now? Yes,
over one hundred and sixty two games in a big lot. No,
you don't do that. But now you're talking about you.
You need four wins to win, and Garcia certainly can
keep this up another four games. And why would you
make him be the guy that can be celebrating at
the end hitting a home run. If you walk him
to start the inning, right, you still have a good

(07:32):
chance to get out of the inning and win the game. Right,
You still can do it. Hey, leadoff at maybe he steals,
but you still have a long way to go trying
to get him all the way around. But you pitch
to him, he can kill you and win the game
with one swing, because that's how hot he is. If
he wasn't this hot, of course we're not having this conversation.
But you gotta be smart. You got to pick your battle.
You can't just say, well, screw it, we're gonna go
right after this guy. No, you don't do it right.

(07:53):
NFL teams don't throw at a lockdown cornerback. They just
don't do it because they know it's not gonna help.
We have our best receiver. Just keep doing it. No,
I want to win the game, so we're gonna go
someplace else with a football. We're not gonna throw at
Sauce Gardner. We're gonna throw at somebody else because that's
not going to do it. Teams do this everywhere, but
yet in baseball there's so much of a no our

(08:13):
guy can do it because baseball is about failure and
good pitching wins the majority of the time. But when
you can equalize things, because basically Garcia is a toss
up every time he comes up, Yeah, you send that
guy down to first base and say, you know what, hey,
good luck, good luck stealing and trying to get around,
but you are not winning the game for us. And
that's exactly what the Diamondbacks said. I can't believe they

(08:35):
pitched to him and and they get exactly what they deserve,
because right now, Tory Leavello, I guarantee you is sitting
going why did we pitch to him? Why didn't why
send him down? Why didn't we send him down there?
Why do we pitch him? Why do we give him
a pitch he could handle over the middle, over the
heart of the plate, at least earlier in the game,
when they weren't pitching, when they weren't sending him down,

(08:56):
they were kind of pitching around him seeing if he
would chase things. And okay, I get that a little bit,
but this is I know, it's the first out of
the eleventh. You can't just pitch right to the guy.
Can't do it. And it still they did it, And
I know Levello's he's laying his bed right now, looking
up at the at the at the ceiling, going why
did I do this? Why didn't Mad Dog retire? Why
didn't I walk Garcia. Why didn't mad Dog retire? Why

(09:17):
didn't I walk Garcia? I don't know what question don't
want to answer to more. Mad Dog should have retired,
I should have walked Garcia. I can't go to sleep.
I'm gonna have a sandwich. That's what he's doing right now.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Now. That's funny. I appreciate the because you know, like
I put the sandwich in there at the end, Well,
you got the sandwich. I mean, we always celebrate sandwich making.
I've never found a new place that I have to
traverse their menu. It's got a bunch of sandwiches named
after media personalities. Kind of weird, but also you know,
just you.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
Talking about ikes there, yeah, ikes, Yeah, a lot of
sandwich the personalities. Yeah, oh you gotta have the ikes,
you gotta have the Uh what was it? I couldn't
believe it was so good. It was the off golden
best thing I ever ate.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
It was. I never had that one.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Yeah was it? When I would never get had like
cabbage on it or something, no artichoke. It was like
chicken and artichoke. I'm like, I'm not gonna get this,
and I got it, and I'm like, this is fantastic.
This is such a great.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Artichokes are you know they scare people away, but they're
delicious exactly. Yeah, we went last last week on the
way back from well, yet another long soccer run I got.
Is there any other kind? No, it seems like we
drive a mile to nowhere. I got what was called

(10:35):
the dirty rubin and we'll leave it at that. So
when we get down to it, right, Garcia three or
four today, obviously the home run added a stolen base.
You look at the rest of the lineup right, and
Young had had two hits, but everybody else is an
over at the back of that lineup right, Nevin Carter,

(10:58):
I mean, that guy's just loving life. In the postgame,
they said, hey, who's pitching them two? Because I have
no idea and right now I don't care. Like, good
for you, twenty one year old. You live your best life.
But my man, he goes to what two for six
in the game. So you're getting production at the top
and then a whole lot enoughing thereafter. So even if

(11:20):
you're nibbling, even if you walk him. And as much
as we hit it, we did the stats right, twenty
two to thirty four percent come around to score lead
off walks, and it may seem worse because you're waiting
for the inevitable failure of your favorite team. I'll take
my chances, man, I'll take my chances that, you know,
especially if I'm I'm not a guy that's you know,

(11:41):
up there throwing fork balls and trying to you know,
live dangerously by throwing it in the dirt to get
guys to chase. That way, I'll take my chances that
I can deduce a double play out of you know,
Heim or Garver or whoever was coming.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Up after that exit out bout a Fresca exit swollen dome.
The Jason Smiths Show with Mike Carmen live from the
tirec dot Com Studios, and just a little bit on
the unmomentum in a game, because you know, there's so
many people that don't think momentum exists, and it's you know,
it's only as good as your next day's pitcher, and
sometimes that's the case. But how do you come back

(12:20):
if you're the Diamondbacks and say we put this away
and we come back tomorrow. How do you do this
when you were two outs away? I mean, this is
the World Series, this is not like, hey, we're starting
a series. Okay, well we had it. We got to
get back. We have four games the next five day,
whatever it's going to be. This was you are three
outs away, you had your closer on the mound. Everything
looked great, and then suddenly it was awful. Really, Steve

(12:43):
de Seger has talked about it, but it reminds me
a lot of the twenty fifteen World Series, which I
can now talk about for the first time as a
Met fan. Like, you know, three outs away, Familia is
three outs away, the Mets are gonna win Game one
in Kansas City, and oh my god, we're gonna win
the World Series. And he quick pitches Alex Gordon and
Gordon Homers with one out into the black center field

(13:05):
and the seats out there, and that was it. And
the Royals come back and they win, and suddenly they
win the next game and the Mets never really get
off the mat. And that was the one omen that
changed everything. The momentum went from the Mets right to
the Royals, and the Royals never looked back. And yes,
the Mets won a game, but the Mets never got
back in it. And that game changed everything. When your

(13:26):
closer gets beat and you try to come back from that.
It's really hard. Ask the Yankees, right, when did the
Yankees lose in the playoffs when Rivera got beat. That's
the only time Yankees didn't lose unless Rivera got beat.
Vera got beat by the Red Sox in two thousand
and four, Rivera got beat by the Diamondbacks in two
thousand and three. That's when the Yankees lose. When your
closer gets beat, that changes a lot in a very

(13:48):
short amount of time. By the time mentally you get
back to where you need to be, it's too late.
And that's what I mean. I know I picked the Diamondbacks,
and you know, stick with the Diamondbacks. I loved their
pitching more. But man, tonight, it's one of those games
that makes you go the World Series may have just
flipped on this one game. On this one game, as
that happened, the World Series may have flipped.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
Well, we'll see when we reboot our gaming machine and
see what NBA jam has for us to.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
He's heating up. He's heating up Fox Sports Radio, The
Jason Smith Show and Mike Carvin live from the Tirak
dot Com Studios. We'll have more from the World Series
coming up, but straight ahead, a big weekend coming up
in the NFL. We have our upset special picks and
what quarterback could be losing his job pretty soon. That's
next right here, Jason to Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon Live from the ti iraq dot com Studios.
Rangers take Game one of the World Series over the
Diamondbacks by the final of six to five. I wonder
what the play of the night's gonna be, Luca, but Caruso, Garcia,

(15:17):
you swung the bad once Luca had forty nine. Come on, man,
he was better for us tonight.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
Alex Caruso played defense and hit a game winning three
in overtime.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
Mass Uh yeah, big big night, Game one of the
World Series. More baseball on the way, but it's a
big football weekend. We have a quarterback who could be
losing his job pretty soon. But first we have our
upset special picks of the weekend coming your way right now.

(15:49):
Mike and I do it every week. Upset special picks
last week, hoping to continue that red hotness two and
oh nine and five now on the season, and Mike out.
I'm excited. Man two and oh last week is nice.
Man to two and oh weeks and a bunch of
one in one weeks. I'm fine right overall.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
I make picks, you know, in my own little Yahoo
world that you know. I'm happy to send screenshots to
prove it. I'm slightly about five hundred. I'm basically the penny.
It's okay fighting fighting the penny, like I make progress.
And then last night that was the thing I was
most upset about with the Bills, Like, all right, offense

(16:28):
is doing nothing and it's gonna take one drive to
screw mea as the Buccaneers get you your money.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
I'll start things off by now you know, I'm out.
Maybe this is a heat check for me. And this
might be a heat check for me, because I'm gonna
take the Panthers getting three and a half over the Texans.
The Panthers are coming off a bye, they've had a
chance to get back, get a breath. They've really underperformed.
I thought they were going to be better, but how

(16:59):
many games are they really gonna have a chance to win.
This should be a game where they play their most
focused game of the year. And look, quite honestly, Houston
can't run the football. They're having a tough time, all right.
Their defense isn't that great. They give up a lot.
This should be a get well game for the Panthers,
and it should be a we're focused, We're playing our

(17:20):
best game of the year, which means getting three and
a half points. I feel pretty good about it now.
Normally I say, hey, yeah, it's three and a half points.
You'd take those three and a half points. I'm not
gonna eat him. No, no, no, I'm gonna take every bit
of those three and a half points for this one
since I'm taking Carolina, who was oh for this season.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
Do you think the Panthers during the bye week had
any workouts where Adam Thieln just had to sit on
the sidelines? All right, Bryce, you have to throw it
to someone who isn't Adam theeling. He's not out here.
Another team trying to figure out its run game as well,
Ceba Hubbard, Miles Sanders, and certainly Hubbard has been the
better back the Bears here again. I will attend live

(18:01):
and in living color, turning around and screaming at Frostburg
in the bolts booth. Plus eight and a half on
the road, forty six and a half year total. Do
I think that it's gonna be a wild wing it
all over the place night for the bet? No? But
you can make some plays downfield. Dj Moore certainly rising
up for beagent as he can, Tyler Scott making some plays.

(18:24):
They can see a little more Darnell Mooney and who knows,
maybe they'll actually be able to leak Cole Comet out
of the blocking position he assumed against the Raiders last week.
But opportunity here with the running back position. Rashaan Johnson
comes back to go in tandem with week seven hero
Deontay Foreman. So beijit just needs to keep the efficiency,

(18:47):
get the ball out to absorb zero negative plays. That's
the biggest thing. It's not about throwing for three to fifty.
It's not about winging around all over the plays like
a lunatic. Avoid negative plays, no sacks, no turnovers.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
Now see, here's the thing, though, is are we really
going to see a different kind of offense. I feel
like the Bears have sort of figured it out a
bit here, at least offense like running the foll okay,
Tuba Hubbard's been the guy, right Khalil Herbert was really
starting to get it, but he gets hurt. He's on
ir Okay now, Tuba Hart, he ran really well. Things
are looking things are looking up. I mean, I don't

(19:24):
know that I would screw with this right now.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
No, no, you.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
Were going back to Carolina. No, no, no, this is Deontay Forman. Sorry,
Dante Forman, I said to you. I meant to say,
Dante Forman.

Speaker 1 (19:31):
You got your panthers. Pick I started up. I started
him in fantasy last week gave me thirty three points.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
No he did.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
I mean, I feel like they've starting to figure it
out all but and this is why you know we've
had this conversation. Justin Fields can lose his job very
easily because the offense watching last week, it wasn't difficult.
They wasn't pulling teeth. It looked much more in sync.
They didn't look like they were all stressed out with Hey,
here's another three and out, here's another three and out,

(19:58):
and Justin Fields will get it chance when he gets back, obviously,
because he'll go back in. But if Beigent plays well
again on Sunday, that doesn't need to be a win,
but it just has to be where things look more cohesive.
You have a Bears coaching staff that says, wait a minute,
we all want to keep our jobs after this year.
We don't have any allegiance to Justin Fields because he
came in before we got the gigs. If we go

(20:19):
to a new quarterback and we say, hey, whoa, whoa, whoa,
we didn't pick the quarterback we were given this guy.
We tried, but you saw Justin Field's record is seven
and ninety three as a starting quarterback. Hey, maybe Beigeent's
the guy. Look at the offense looking better with him.
And even if Beigeen's not the answer, this could buy
them another year where you're drafting really high because Tadah

(20:40):
the Panthers, you have that pick, they're oh at six.
You may be able to say, hey, we're starting over.
We feel pretty good and we can keep this gig
with our new franchise quarterback. So really, I mean, I
look at the Bears and I go, this could be
how it looks for a while, And yeah, well, Fields
get back on the field, sure, but it'll be a
very quick hook to go back to Beijen if he
played well, you can see the machinations going forward that

(21:03):
you could see Fields being the backup at some point
this season because he's not going to be the guy
next to year in Chicago. We already know that right
away he's not going to be that guy.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
Well, it's all remains to be seen. Right We've seen
some progress from Fields before the injury, and how it's
questioned of well, how long does that injury really take
to heal? For now they've eschewed the idea of surgery,
but he's ruled out for this week. Here's from a
Pro Football Focus and I referenced the data point earlier.

(21:34):
Tyson Beagen's two point five average depth of target fifth
lowest in a game with fifteen plus attempts over the
last decade, the second lowest in a win. Ryan Tannehill
had a perfect passer rating at win seven. I'm twenty fifteen,
two point four yards average depth of target. So you

(22:00):
got that going for you. Yeah, get the ball out,
be efficient? Now will they build the Chargers roll over
like the Raiders did? I got to assume not. You know,
I take the plus eight and a half mainly off
the Daly proposition. As I alluded to you earlier. He
has been known to frequent the bar that we love

(22:22):
in Chicago. Some big moments from there. But you know,
it's just the opportunity here baging taken as you will.
And I think with Fields there's a little bit of
what they're doing in with the Giants as well.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
There's no need to.

Speaker 3 (22:36):
Rush Daniel Jones back. You've signed him, you're there with Fields, Yeah,
you'd like him back on the field, but you want
them right because otherwise, how do you truly evaluate him
if he can't grip a football Twitter at?

Speaker 1 (22:50):
How about a Fresco Mike at Swollen Dome? Are other
upset picks? Now, I know you like this pick. I
know you like it. Yeah, and I'm going that has
not played well team, you hate it their fans, yet
they're still four and two. I would trade that in
a second. But give me the Steelers getting three over

(23:12):
the Jaguars, right. Pittsburgh's defense is gonna give Jacksonville issues.
Like the Jaguars are hot and I get it, and
they're winning games and there's no style points in the NFL.
But the Jaguars, they don't look great. They've done enough
and it's awesome, right. I mean, look, I picked them
to go to the AFC Championship game. You have them
in the Super Bowl. Trevor Lawrence is starting to play well,

(23:33):
but the offense isn't really firing like it is and
they're winning games. They're gonna struggle in this one. The
Steelers are playing at home, which is a really big deal,
and more importantly, they're starting to figure out their offensive identity.
It's more of a job share with Naji Harris and
Jalen Warren. Getting Deontay Johnson back as huge. You saw
the big change in the offense last week. Suddenly they're

(23:56):
going downfield more and Johnson's catching the ball and Pickens
is a hundred yards again, and Kenny Pickett is starting
to pick it up a little bit he was. Now
I know he's on the injured report this week, but
it looks like he's gonna play. Pittsburgh's got it going.
Jacksonville's been hot. This is a close one all the way,
and I'm not gonna say, oh, you take those three points. No, no, again,

(24:16):
I will take all three of these points. Mike Carbon
with the Steelers at home against the Jaguars.

Speaker 3 (24:21):
Man, I like the fact that you we got to
cut that tape. Sam. He said something quasi positive about
Kenny Pickett.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
I know that it was quasi positive. Once in a while.
I say something quasi positive about Kenny Pickett.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Not all the time, but two great quotes around this game.
Doug Peterson asked about the team's thirty first ranked pass
defense and how the numbers might be skewed. Quote. Interesting
numbers are one way. Interceptions are another way. George Pickens
your guy. He referred to the Jaguars as having a
quote hope defense when it comes to stopping.

Speaker 1 (24:59):
So I love that the home defense.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
Mike Tomlin eighteen five and three against the number as
a home dog in his career. I'm gonna go to
the Indianapolis Colts. I like the balance they've got on offense,
and I don't like anything quarterbacked by Derek Carr. That's that.
It's a narrow one and a half point spread as
we sit here, but you look at Down's Pittman Junior.
We've talked a lot about this week. Check out the

(25:24):
podcast wherever you get your audio downloaded, give it five stars.
We'll love you forever and ever. A man talking about
Pittman going and getting him at the trade deadline? What's
his value? Where's his value internally with the Colts? But
what you have is an opportunity here, and I know
the Saints defense is great. I've been reading some crazy stats. Lattimore.

(25:46):
If you go and try to challenge him, well, that's
not gonna be good for business. So Michael Pittman Junior
may be crying again after this one if Lattimore is
shadowing him. But Minshew, the dual run system you've got
going on there, give me the Colts in a low
scoring thriller. Look at you taking the Cults and minshoe Mania.

(26:09):
Oh you gotta love some minshoe Mania.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
Oh buddy.

Speaker 3 (26:12):
Yeah. There's a couple other games that are moderately intriguing,
like when you're when you're looking and trying to call
for an upset, but you know the Giants and Jets,
I can't do that to you, to Rod Taylor, and
the the fact that you're not gonna cover Darren Waller
so he runs a muck.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (26:30):
So that's that's one. I've seen a lot of people
on board, Washington. I can't buy it.

Speaker 1 (26:35):
Look, look, look, let let let me tell you some
about the Jets and the Giants. Okay, because now you
open the door to this, well, I kicked it open.
I use this was a game previously I would have
been afraid of, right, because this is where here comes
to Rod Taylor, and then he's gonna wind up doing
things to the Jets defense. There's gonna be no answers
for it. No no Saquon Barkley this week, No Daniel Jones.

(26:59):
The Jets win this game. They're in a good spot
right now because they're hungry coming off of the bye.
After this week, I'll worry because they're gonna beat the Giants.
It's gonna be we're the greatest team in the world.
And then they're gonna lose three in a row because
they can never handle success. But they're the right they're
at the right spot now of confident and hungry, and
they're gonna beat the Giants. It'll probably be a low

(27:19):
scoring game. It'll be a breeze ball game where the
guy runs for a bunch of yards one hundred and
fifty hundred and sixty yards and a couple of touchdowns.
And that's how they're gonna win. But the Jets win
this game, I'm not worried about this. I'm worried about
the week after because you got saut guardner DJ Reid
coming back. I don't know how the Giants are gonna
move the football down the field. And this is not
to Rod Taylor. Twenty fours to Rod Taylor at thirty four.

(27:41):
Everything is gonna come up Jets in this game.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
I'm not concerned, all right, Barkley, Barkley, Sorry, buddy, Uh,
we got rot. Don't call me Tyrod Taylor.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
We got more coming up in ninety seconds. But first
special delivery. Steve Desager as what's trending in the wide
world sport just.

Speaker 4 (28:00):
D well, thank you for bringing up this past hour
about the history of tonight's hero Adolas Garcia, who had
the solo homer in the eleventh to win Game one
of the World Series at Texas six ' five over Arizona.
After he defected from Cuba, he spent three seasons with
the Saint Louis Cardinals organization and they sold him to

(28:20):
the Texas Rangers after the twenty nineteen season. But just
to top themselves, literally, a couple weeks later after the
new year, the Saint Louis Cardinals then traded another Cuban defector,
Randy A Rose Arena, to Tampa Bay in the same offseason. Wow,
the ALCS MVP in twenty twenty was a ros Arena.

(28:44):
ALCS MVP this year was Garcia. Adolas Garcia. This is rare,
just the third player ever now with at least two
RBIs in four straight postseason games. Jan Carlos Stanton had
done that in recent years, but Garcia had three hits
tonight in voting a first inning RBI single. He is
homered in five straight postseason games. And I love the

(29:05):
Kevin Burkhark on the Fox TV post game tonight mentions
the hero is a Cuban defector and he hit his
home runoff Castro, Miguel Castro.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
I'll tell you what. I was walking along the Moosa
Beach Pier earlier and I saw a guy that was
doing his best to do a Castro in Persian impersonation.

Speaker 1 (29:27):
It was crazy Beard Cigar.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
Yeah, the whole nine yards not allowing.

Speaker 4 (29:31):
People watch Major League baseball. We mentioned that earlier in
the show, literally a doolas. Garcia had never seen a
Major League game on television until after he defected. Because
it is so so or was especially so difficult to
see that American product in Cuba with that regime.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
Today, what you were gonna say he had never seen
American base because he's only allowed to watch the Mets,
and so he really.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
Seen winning baseball. In other words, Miguel Castro the losing pitcher.
This he's on his six team now here. This year's
first year with Arizona, and yes he did lead the
league in appearances seventy five games out of the pen.
But his era this year was four point three to one,
which is about what his.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
Career era is.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
And how about this.

Speaker 4 (30:17):
It'll only happened once in World Series history until tonight
that a team got a game tying homer in the
ninth and a walkoff homer in extra innings. If you
think about it, you can probably think of the last
time it happened a late night at Yankee Stadium two
thousand and one, Derek Jeter against Arizona. It was Game

(30:39):
four of that series when Arizona got two in the
eighth for the lead Yankees on that Halloween night, two
run homer bottom of the nine from Tino Martinez to tie,
and then in the tenth Jeter with the walkoff homer.
And remember the clock had ticked past midnight. So in
Yankee history they already had Mister October with Reggie Jackson
that night. They had missed November with Derek Cheeter. And

(31:03):
in this series Texas.

Speaker 1 (31:07):
That's back when Bino Cook used to tell me Jason,
eventually we're going to be playing Game seven of the
World Series on Thanksgiving Day.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
It's not that far away.

Speaker 1 (31:18):
We'll have turkey in the morning. No one will watch
the Lions and we'll watch some of us will watch
Game seven of the World And.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
Then Bino said, Derek Cheeter will win two Heisman Trophies.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
Bino was not a baseball fan. He would say on
my show all the time. He would say, covering major
League baseball is the second worst job in the world.
The first worst job is covering a war. The second
worst job is covering Major League babe.

Speaker 4 (31:48):
Because it was Pino Cook who once said the toughest
job in America president of the United States. Second toughest
job head coach at Notre Dame.

Speaker 1 (31:58):
Oh really, yeah, oh yeah, yeah, that was Bano Man.
I was being over.

Speaker 4 (32:03):
Okay, You may say that about baseball, but I actually
questioned whether he knew college football when he said Ron
Paulus is gonna win two I spen trophies.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
You know what Pino used to be able to do.
I used to do a bit with him where I
would say, all right, Pino, I'm gonna randomly pick a
year and a bowl game and you tell me the
who played in the final score?

Speaker 3 (32:22):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
And he was And if he didn't get it on
he was always within a couple of points.

Speaker 4 (32:26):
That is like selling.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:29):
Like if I said, okay, being on nineteen sixty seven
Orange Bowl, he would go, oh that was West Virginia
and Nebraska. It was a crazy game. It was like
twelve seven, and I would look go thirteen seven Nebraska.
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Like and.

Speaker 3 (32:44):
He got it.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
E didn't on a computer. He could do it all
the time, all right. Being on nineteen seventy six Cotton Bowl, Oh,
come on, that's an easy one, Jason.

Speaker 4 (32:51):
You know there's only so many Bagler cotton bolls chasing.

Speaker 1 (32:57):
He would he'd be able to come within a couple
of points way of every single game. It was insane.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
While we are talking college football Saturday, on Fox TV
quite a day noon Eastern Times seven and oh Oklahoma
at Kansas, then a Top twenty matchup with Oregon at
Utah and Fox, and then the World Series Saturday night.
That'll be Game two from Texas right after the football.
And by the way, can I mention the bullpen of
Texas tonight? Here they had a four and oh starting

(33:22):
pitcher this postseason. Nathan Evaldi give up the five runs
pulled in the fifth inning, but then five relievers pitch
scoreless ball, just two hits total, no walks over the
next six and a third and Texas comes back first.
This in the ninth from Corey seeger Field.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
This one is way back.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
This one is history.

Speaker 4 (33:43):
The game is tied five five Rangers Radio and then
Adols Garcia in extras.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
That ball is history.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
A doles Garcia has walked off the Diamondbacks in.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
The eleven My goodness, he's done it again.

Speaker 4 (33:59):
That was pretty much all of our reactions. Forty nine
Ers quarterback Brock Purty returned to full practice. He's questionable
for Sunday with a concussion. As for the NBA, Golden
State got forty one points from Steph Curry and a
win at Sacramento for Dallas Luka donsig forty nine points
in a win over Brooklyn.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
Back to you, thanks a bun Steve O. The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon. Coming up next,
we got a double play of the Night coming your way.
