(00:50):
to the World Series. I just need to say this.
I need to say this. Say I am the real
head coach of the New York Makes. Look at you, Hi,
I'm the real head coach. I'm the real head coach.
What did I tell you? After Game one? Julius Randall.
Randall stinks he can't take twenty two shots. He's not
good enough. Other people need to take the shots. He's
(01:10):
just not the two. I know he demands the ball,
but he's not good enough. He can't create his own shot.
You've seen this what happened tonight. Julius Randall cut his
shots in half. The Knicks made twenty three pointers. They
beat the Hawks won twenty six point twenty. Congratulations no longer,
Tom Tibbadau. Jason Smith me, head coach, New York Knicks.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
I know what.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
I got my finger on the pulse of the team,
my Carmen from Los Angeles, three thousand miles away. I
can tell you what's wrong with the Knicks, and I
fixed it in one day. And here there. That's only change.
It happened. Julius rand wasn't making shots early, he distributed more.
He wound up with nine assists. This is how you win.
This is how I went. Head coach, Jason Smith, New
York Knicks.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Yeah, it's really impressive by the fact that his efficiency
went up so much. Now he's four or ten from
the field, but seventeen two, four, twenty two, no, exactly,
seventeen twelve and nine, he's plus seven for the night. Yeah,
there's your big number. You circle that as a team
thirty assists. Hey, you want to buy some RJ Barrett
rookie cards. I got a mountain of them for you.
(02:09):
And they overcame the fact that quickly just kept chucking
up three pointers like you just Phillip Seymour, Hoffman, rain Man, Yeah,
one nine. Yeah, it wasn't worth, but everybody else picked
up for him because as a team twenty of forty
four and man, you're gonna shoot to that level and
that kind of percentage. I mean, that's eight more three
point makes than the Hawks had on the night. An
(02:31):
impressive win for your nicks. As much as I hate
to say it, I'll.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Tell you what I look at is more shots for RJ. Barrett,
less shots for Julius Randall. Right, that that's really what
you have to look at, and that will get you, know,
that will get the Vincenzo some shots off the bench.
He had sixteen tonight after a scoreless opening night, less
shots for Randall and opening up for but that it's
even as simple as that, less Randall, more Barrett. That's
a great combo for the next man. I'm telling you,
(02:56):
I'm the head coach. Man, I could be this, I
could do the show with you. And be the Knicks
head coach coach. I just do it on a GoPro
and hey, hey wait there's a timeout. Okay, listen, we
have to we have to make sure the timeouts that
I need to talk to you coincide with when Steve
de sagerd does what's trending, So I can talk to
you guys for like a minute or two.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yeah, it'll work. Well. The beauty of it is in
the NBA, you get like nine thousand timeouts, so you
have all your quick ones, you know, to coincide with
when I talk, you mute your mic, you turn. I mean,
because we had this idea with Phil Jackson when they
didn't want to didn't know if he'd want to come
out of the desert and his hideaway and bunkers to coach.
(03:32):
It's like, all right, you got a robot on the
sideline and it's it's just a giant iPad, right, they
sell those Mondo pad things, so you just put one
there and now he's coaching virtually. Yeah, right, it's not
ar Phil, you know, AI Phil Jackson. It's still Phil Jackson.
So I do have to remind you of your other guy,
Kristops porzengis in a great game. They beat the Heat
(03:54):
the Celtics one nineteen, one eleven. Porzengis just seventeen today,
seventeen and nine. They scored one hundred and nineteen points
and only had eight points from the bench. Guys, that's
the kind of game I like. You guys, sit your
asses down. We got this.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Porzingis used all his energy to the other He needs
a week to get over the game opening night Madison Square. God, Yeah,
it's fine, It's fine.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
That's great stuff. A full night of action in the
World Series going. People are getting tacos. I mean, it's awesome.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
We're in the final stretch to get tickets to horse
racing's biggest moment of the year, the world's best headed
to Santa Anita for the Breeders Cup World Championships on
November third and fourth. We are headed to the Breeders Cup. Yeah,
we are next Friday to do a podcast. There's gonna
be a lot of fun. Countdown begins now. Get tickets
today at Breeders Cup dot com. Well, you mentioned the
World Series and so far I'm happy because everything I've
(04:45):
said when picking the Series last night has come true.
I like the Diamondback starting pitching, and I love Kettle
Marte to be the MVP. Seen so far, Diamondback starting
pitching has been better. Marte's one for three with two RBI.
But let's get it's serious about this, because what we've
seen so far is the Diamondbacks of well, we're serious
because I'm right so far. So there's that the big thing,
(05:06):
and there's two big things from this from this game tonight,
game one right now, with the Diamondbacks up five to three.
They were down two nothing early. They withstood the two
run first inning, and Zach Gallen calmed down as much
as he could. I mean, I would walk a Dolas
Garcia every single time. But hey, you do you watching
this Diamondbacks team, they look like the Dodgers in this respect.
(05:29):
If Carol and Marte don't hit, there's no way the
Diamondbacks can win. But if Kettle and if Marte and
Carol hit, watch out this could be a really short series.
Because these are the Mookie Bets and Freddie Freeman of
this team. There's nobody else that really scares you in
this lineup, right It's but it's that if the top
two guys in the lineup hit they make everything happen,
(05:50):
and that's what made it happen for the Dodgers this
year and so far to tonight, what do you got,
Carol Marte are two for six, they have four RBIs.
You had a run scored there, and they're each hitting
now over three hundred in the postseason. These guys have
gotten the big hits. Tonight, Tommy FAM's got a home run.
That's great, you get a little bit from the rest
of the order, But when these guys hit, the Diamondbacks
aren't gonna be beat. If they don't hit, it's gonna
(06:11):
be impossible for them to win. So it kind of
breaks down where they're they're like the Dodgers in that respect,
where look what happened when they in the playoffs when
Mookie Bets and Freddie Freeman didn't hit, what happened. The
Dodgers went out very meekly, And it's the same thing
you can say for the Diamondback There's a lot of
pressure on these two guys, especially with Corbyn Carroll being
a rookie, but so far everything's been great, and that's
kind of how the series breaks.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Down for me. Well, I mean, when we talked about it, yesterday, right,
I mean, starting pitching, we go to a draw and
then we start looking at the bullpens and where you're
going to find your efficiencies. But the one thing that
scared me in making the pick of the Rangers is
just the way the Diamondbacks manufacture runs. Right, we talk
(06:53):
about Marte, Walker and Perdomo already have stolen bases in
the game. Right, So keeping pitch sure, you know, distracted
all the extra that goes with that on the base
paths and try to find a little advantage because it's
all about percentages, right, It's all all about trying to
find little angles that may open the door to a
(07:13):
bigger inning and keep the line moving. And you know,
you got you gotta appreciate that style. So to that point,
you know, you also look at Gallon who struggled early.
There was no panic, right, no panic. And now he's
gone through through five just the three year and runs.
He's at ninety nine pitches, so we won't see him
(07:34):
much longer.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Looked like he was gonna empty the tank against Garcia
and the the like, Hey, two outs, nobody on he's
throwing ninety seven, ninety eight couple of those pitches. This
is I know I'm done after this. Just empty it out.
This is like, this is your last batter. If you
get him out or not, this is it. This is
your last batter. Just go empty it out.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Well, because the other is I mean, just to take
it from the thirty thousand foot view, I mean, both
managers recognizing it ain't getting one today, right is as
much as we always have our stats as well, the
team that wins game one and blah blah blah, that's
all finding good. It's not a one game series. So
the starters gut it out, right because if Aldi ends
(08:14):
up going four and two third six hits, but the
five earned runs, he also got to eighty nine pitches
before he yielded. So letting these guys work through and
trying to steal it because you know the the both
bullpens are going to come in so big in this series.
Best not to burn them out as best you can
in game one while it's still within a reasonable deficit.
(08:38):
So fun times ahead as we go to the top
of the six.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
So here we are five to three, top of the six,
and I've been saving this for the World Series because
I didn't know when I was gonna need to use this.
You know what, I can only fire those bullet once
and I need to be able to I need to
be able to say, hey, okay, now's the time to
use it. Right, now's the time to use this. I
have a connection to the Arizona Diamondbacks. You do, I do?
(09:01):
I do you see the AVNET patches that are so
prominently displayed on the Diamondbacks uniforms. One of my good
friends that I've got friends for twenty five years former
general counsel for AVNET. Like, I like, that's like one
step away from having in faceral council. Yeah, on the
(09:22):
starting lineup, like like I general counsel, not at general counsel.
Like that's a big like you know, hoity toity, big
job right there. That's a that's a big time lawyer.
And you got right there. So now this is like,
you know, one phone call to this person and I
got to protect this person's identity and then I'm I'm
on the phone with Tory Leavella most likely. So this
is this is how close it works, right there. I
have a big connection, big connection, and I've been saving
(09:44):
it because I know, well, okay, but now hey, Game
one of the World Series the Anet patches look really
really nice.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
And and and here.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
Now you're right, are you.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
Gonna end up getting a couple of jerseys Sentier or what?
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Uh No, I don't know. But the one thing I
did get from this person was just make sure you
say it's av net, not av net.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Right.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Everybody says av net and it's AVNT. I'm like, right, God, yes,
I know a f net. Yes, I got it.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
It's av net and the Giants swoosh. I mean there's
like so much.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Going on the Giants swooshot it. Wait a minute, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Well, I mean there's logos everywhere. It's gonna become a
NASCAR fire suit before long, and I'm I'm here for it.
We'd be remiss. It's something we brought up and me
and my crazy Baseball card World the Taco Fractor cashed
in and.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Your guy, Marte, you got it done for folks. So
how many of those cards are out there? Because this
is free Tacos for life if you have one of
those cars.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
So here we go. So there were up there were
five inserted of every player like it's a it's an
insert set, right, So you got parallels one ninety nine
ninety nine, you know, all the way up to like
nine ninety nine, I think, but then all the way
down one of one, well, they did a taco fractor
show in the background, she got the player's picture, and
then there's tacos like they're floating in space like a
(10:58):
screensaver kind of thing. And those are numbered to five
for each player. So they are up to five of
them and looking and tracking them off eBay and such.
People had been placing their little little wagers in the
secondary market, and they were selling for about three four
hundred bucks thereabouts. The last one sold for about one
thousand so five collectors. And here are the official rules.
(11:22):
They yet a Taco Bell digital gift card with a
face value of fifteen k plus, they're gonna give them
a check of fifty two fifty to cover the taxes.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Ooh okay, all right, how great is that? Yeah, that's
pretty well.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
You know, there's five up to five of those out there,
and so if you find one on the secondary market,
you decide how much of that fifteen thousand. You know,
it's worth fifteen grand, it's not, Hey, I go redeem it,
and it's a you know, just never ending, you know,
kind of hey, go against my credit like it's a
fifteen thousand dollars gift card right off the jump, right.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
And also, I don't want people to think that this
replaces everybody still gets.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Free everybody else still gets tacos, Marte.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Having the stolen base here in the in the in
the first inn and I mean everybody gets free tacos.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Yeah, everybody still gets one, but it was the Yeah,
this is an extra tops incentive to go rip open
packs and go uh into the secondary market, you know,
like a trading community. Uh and see if you uh
pick the right guy, well, Marte is the one that
ends up cashing out.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Well, and here's what then, this is what makes me
feel good about my pick of the Diamondbacks to win the.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
World Series's America's hero.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
He is America. I mean, come on, free tacos already.
Like I said, Marte world Series MVP. Look at him.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Go no, even if he doesn't win it, he's America's He's.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
The he's the people's MVP.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Yes, that's right.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
But here's why I feel good is that the team
that has had the Taco hero since the taco thing
has gone on. Now this is the twelfth year the
team that has the taco hero, the person who steals
the base that gets free tacos for for everybody in
the country. Their teams are eight and three in the
World Series. So now already the Rangers have to overcome
(13:06):
taco hero if they want to win the World Series.
And that might be just too much right there to overcome.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
I think they should have had someone running in that
that opening inning.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Why are we stealing a bit? Just try?
Speaker 2 (13:17):
You know, it's not her identity, but the numbers, the
analytics tell me this is the way I'm supposed to play.
When I'm on first base, you can't run in less
than six seconds. It doesn't matter the analytics. I should
be trying for a stolen base. It's like football and
analytics and short yard and situations.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
It was a math.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
There was science.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Come on, a coach, you sure I haven't stolen a
base since my junior year of high school. I come on,
you know the segnal right, I want to just make
sure that's it, all right, I gotta go, all right,
I gotta go. I gotta go, gotta get that stolen base.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Get running.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
You gotta overcome the taco hero. That's a three eight
and three. If you have the Taco hero, I feel like,
I mean, that's fantastic. I mean that that this makes
me feel great. I fancy great. Oh yeah, yeah, at.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
That's fan The eight and three.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
Now, I'm like, gosh, I see you to pick the
Diamondbacks with me last night. If you knew that was
gonna happen, if you knew that Martine was gonna get
the first olen base and that was the and that
was the stat Oh yeah, yeah, you'd just.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
I didn't know the eight and three. That's good. Yeah, now,
if you if you'd told me, uh, and we were
laying odds and again the full analysis was on the
podcast for last night's show, is that I feared the
activity on the base paths would be the Rangers undoing
Mow and Mahoon. Three stolen bases through the first five,
Get them on, get them over, get them in.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
We're in the final stretch to get tickets the horse

Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon
Live from the ti rack dot Com Studios. We're in
the final stretch to get tickets to horse racing's biggest
moment of the year, the world's best headed to Santa
Anita for the Breeders' Cup World Championships on November third
and fourth. The countdown begins now get tickets today at
Breeders Cup dot com. Things getting interesting. Game one of
(15:43):
the World Series Rangers two on two, out trailing the
Diamondbacks five to three, bottom of the sixth inning. I'll
tell you one thing, this game is not doing anything
for Rob Manford's pace of play is going.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
To be a low. It's good for Fox.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
Let's go wait a minute, I don't understand how with
Rob Manford saying the pace the play, how are these
playoff games getting just longer and longer and longer. So
we will have more on this coming up again two
on two out for the Rangers in the bottom of
the sixth inning. But big time NFL stories to get
to brock Purty looks like he's going to play Dallas
(16:18):
and the Rams one of the marquee games of the
week and joining us to talk about all of that more.
Longtime NFL insider, he is a Hall of Very Good voter.
You can fill him on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two.
That is at Jason Cole sixty two, and he has
spent most of the week on social media talking about
how basically Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverine should be
(16:39):
able to cheat however they want to. Whatever you need
to do to get people's signs, even you gotta stand
on the same sideline with him, go through the guy's pockets.
It's not that big a deal. Steal the signs and
use them and go win games. What's up, Ja Cole?
Speaker 4 (16:55):
Which gets me more all of very good or you
completely misquoting me and misrepresenting what I have to say.
But either way it's same.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Okay, you're gonna try to rename it because I know
they I saw they put up the new aluminum siding
that said all.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
Of very good.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
I really do feel like Charles Grodin in that terrible
movie What was Istar at the end when he's going
just shoot him, shoot him, shoot him, one of the
one of the worst movies. Like, whoever thought let's say,
let's do the movie where we juxtaposed Justin Hoffman and
(17:44):
Warren Batty and have Hoffman play the good looking guy
who thought that was a good idea? Who paid? Yeah,
well that was the point of it. But you have
Warren baby, like you know, you play the you play
(18:04):
the easy card on that way, you really just do sorry,
like saying.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
Let's put Will Ferrell in a movie. Great, but it's
it's a drama. No no, no, no, but it's gonna
be fine. He'll be fine. It's no, no, not gonna work,
not gonna work. Not.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
Although I thought Adam Sandler Adam Sandler wasn't too bad
as the sort of addicted uh jeweler slash gam addicted
game like that wasn't bad.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
That was not his story. That was a different movie.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Yeah, I know what, Okay, just making sure you.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
To thank you for I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
Let's let's let's get it because you you've really you know,
in comparing this to Spygate and the cheating scandal going
on with Michigan, we find out every day there's more
and more. Today a D three coach said that, yeah, uh,
Michigan staff for paid me to go to other Big
ten schools and tape their their signs and everything. I
get that, you know, because like I know, you talked
(19:02):
about how hey this happens in sports, and TCU felt
they had the deal with National.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
No, it's just stupid. No, it's just stupid. It's just
completely idiotic. Number one, change the rules and put in
the coach to quarterback slash line you know, middle linebacker,
whoever is the defensive captain who calls the signals. Put
it in, like stop being idiots. Just put that device
(19:27):
into the game, right, just like the NFL has done.
That's number one. Number two. God, this is amazing, I know,
it's I'm just I'm really reinventing things. But I say this,
say on week, change your signs.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
Yeah, I know, and I get all of that. I
understand what you're saying.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
I did.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
I did.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
I did it in Little league. No, no, no, no, no,
I as a coach did it in little league. It's
not that hard. I would teach ten, eleven and twelve
year old bunt and curveball signs. That's all I was doing.
It's easy, it's really simple.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
And instead of me touching my belly for bunt, I'm
going to touch my belt. Okay, so belt bunch. It
was belly bunch. Now it's belt bunch.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
It was. Now the curveball was my feet are together,
otherwise it's the fastball. Okay, it wasn't. It really wasn't.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
No, but listen, I get where you're coming from. I understand,
and I understand you. I understand Dion Sanders talking about hey,
you got to stop it. I understand all of this. However,
the NCAA is different. They're going to throw the book
at Michigan. They're going to make them ineligible for the
Big Ten and they're not going to play in the CFP.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
Well, maybe I don't know what I mean, when was
the last time we considered the nc two A an
affected governing body. It's true, right, Oh really lost control
college football and now the players run college football. We're awesome.
You know. Mark Emmert spent twenty years? Was that how
(21:03):
long you were in office? Being the worst commissioner in
all of sports? And the only reason that he kind
of got away with it that not that no, people
don't really notice is that it was college football, so
nobody really knows ultimately who's in charge. But I mean
that was I mean, that man's a blithering idiot. He
(21:24):
just didn't understand the basic things, like they're going to
beat you in court, crutch in court, and he was
like shocked when they lost nine to nothing in court
over basically you know nil, Like, I mean, you're just
a bad administrator, and why don't you do something to
(21:45):
get ahead of this problem instead of doing nothing? And
by doing nothing, you've rendered the NCAA completely and totally
in effect. Now they may do something to Harbaugh because
they're tired of Harbaugh's act and because they wants to
get back at Harbor because he can't beat him on
the field, and who knows what whoever else is after
(22:06):
harborb because her Harbaugh has certainly done a ton of
things to piss off other coaches. I get it, Okay,
but hey, let's not pretend that Harbaugh is the only
guy doing this. Tons of schools are doing it. Be
Let's not pretend that this is a really simple thing
to fix and it just puts the coaches and we'll
(22:26):
fit it. Get this out of the way. Why are
we talking about this right now? Like, Okay, we just
spend like one thousand dollars per team to put in
a microphone system, right like, this is not hard, right,
You're a controversy, said nothing like this was a controversy
in the NFL what's fifteen years ago? And they didn't
(22:47):
learn then and probam of big controver in all of
this I found out, which is wonderful because I said.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
We're losing We're losing j Cole. But we had to
we had to fix that. Uh, let's let's fix it up.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Patrick.
Speaker 5 (23:05):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
Yeah, we lost him. I think maybe I don't know,
maybe someone was stealing his phone. That could have been
what it is money?
Speaker 2 (23:10):
Well, I mean, look, it's it clearly doesn't cost a
lot of money to do what Michigan is doing. And
I then we saw the estimate of.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
Maybe maybe it was Michigan stealing his signals. See what
I did there, signal sign was all it took to,
you know, set up this elaborate scheme. All right, let's
find it. If he's better heyd was Michigan stealing your signal?
Oh he just dropped? All right? Uh yeah, yeah. Jim
Harbaughs outside his house right now with with with with
scissors and wearing all kinds of cameo. Uh, we'll get
(23:41):
back to j cole mit it. But right now, let's
find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
As the World Series getting into winning time for Game
one special deliveries. Steve to Sager has more on this
and the big night in the NBA that has course
punctuated by the Knicks win over the Hawks.
Speaker 6 (23:55):
Yeah, maybe Arizona leads at Texas five to three, top
of the seventh. You guys were talking about the whole
steal of Taco promotion yet again in the World Series
this year. For Major League Baseball, however, it has changed
recently because you have to be a registered rewards member
and have an account with the fast food place on
(24:18):
their mobile app and then go to a participating location.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
So you do have like a long time to sign
up for this.
Speaker 6 (24:25):
Though, No, you have until tonight.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
No I thought. I thought you have until like two
weeks to sign up.
Speaker 6 (24:31):
No, you have like ten days to get the taco.
You are out of luck tomorrow, he's.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
The newsman, Smith, what you do?
Speaker 1 (24:43):
So I have to wait? Wait? So I have okay,
hang on, okay, So I had to sign up and
I have ten days to get the taco. Not crazy, oh, because.
Speaker 6 (24:54):
Now you're a rewards member, but you have to have
a registered with account with them on their mobile app.
So can I just say that this whole thing, that's right,
as Admiral Alackbar himself would say, and I think he
said often, that's right, Thank you very much. Game number
(25:17):
one of the World Series is that Texas. Here are
the details of this opener are the best of seven
so far, They're going to the seventh inning stretch Arizona
five to three in the lead. Texas did get two
runs in the first yet again, Zach Gallon gives up
two runs in the first of a playoff game, third
straight game. He went five innings, five strikeouts, four walks. Diamondbacks,
of course, came back and they are now leading going
(25:40):
to the bottom of the seventh as Corbyn Carrol hits
a two run triple in the third score, sliding into
home on a fielder's choice. There's also a Tommy fam
solo homer in the fourth. Marte with the RBI double
in the fifth inning to Tell Marte of Arizona. With
a seventeen game hitting streak that ties the postseason record,
Marte already has the longest streak to start any postseason career.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
George W.
Speaker 6 (26:05):
Bush, former president and former owner of the Rangers, throughout
the first pitch tonight. He threw to former catcher for
Texas Evon Rodriguez. For Game two tomorrow, Adrian Beltre will
throw out the first pitch to Fergie Jenkins. Reportedly Game
two Saturday nights on Fox TV as well right after
college football, and then the series continues Monday in Arizona.
(26:27):
Now to the NBA News and Yeah, eleven games tonight, Okay,
it includes the New York victory j Johnson thirty one points.
They woned Atlanta one twenty six to one twenty final
seconds at Chicago Toronto leads the Bulls ninety one to ninety.
Denver got a win at Memphis one oh four. Nicola
Jokic twenty two points, but he had seven assists nine
(26:49):
turnovers as well. They're midway through overtime at San Antonio,
and the Spurs now have a six point lead on
Houston one seventeen to one eleven Victor Wembin Yamu with
nineteen points, eight rebounds, three turnovers. He has played twenty
eight minutes of this game. Victories for Detroit and Oklahoma
(27:09):
City on the road, Boston at home beating Miami won
nineteen one eleven Jimmy Butler and the loss three of eleven,
shooting for fourteen points. Lighter night in the NHL, Chicago
in overtime defeated Vegas four to three. Vegas had been
seven to zero. Carolina a three to nothing winner over
slumping San Jose, which is now seven and one and one.
(27:30):
NFL Note forty nine Ers quarterback Brock Party returned to
full practice today. He's questionable with a concussion. San Francisco
will host Cincinnati. Purdy still needs to clear protocols last
step tomorrow to be playing Sunday.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
Back to you.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
Thanks a bunch, STEVEO. I believe we have Jason coleback.
I believe he's gotten a signal back. I don't think
there's anybody outside his house looking in seeing what he's
typing into his phone, and he's moving in and out
of range. So have you avoided the University of Michigan
people outside your house getting your signal on?
Speaker 4 (28:00):
I know I'm getting calls of support from Harball right now.
He's like good.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
More importantly, did you avoid the nooid?
Speaker 4 (28:12):
The best part is like I was, I could hear you, guys, fine,
and then Patrick came back on and goes, oh, I
can hear you, let me put you back on, and
then all of a sudden, I hear click, got hung
up on?
Speaker 2 (28:24):
Waity to go, Patrick?
Speaker 4 (28:26):
There you go. Good production. He's gonna call you guys,
Big Mike and Big Jason again. Real thick.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Yeah, that's awesome right there yet? Are you fine? Click?
I'm hanging up on you.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
Not gonna, not gonna, not gonna hear you anymore.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
It may sound like I'm not hanging up, I'm not.
Just just stay on the line, trust me, Just stand alike,
stand alie.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Would you like to be on the air.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
So so the point, the point you were making before
you moved out of range to get the pizza from
the guy that door dashed it to you about Michigan
was what.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
I just think this is. This is one of those
much ado about nothing controversies. Oh well, this is the
other point that came up is that I said to
this one college administrator, well, shouldn't it be really easy
to check? I mean, you've got expense reports that have
to be reported by the assistant. He goes. Expense reports,
he goes because they pay for that as slush fund
(29:20):
money that's off the side. And I'm like, well we'll
wait a second, Wait a second, college luch fund money
that's off books, Like, what's going on there? That's the
bigger controversy to me.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
They get every college Jay Cole, come on.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
Well, Peddy cash, Yeah, oh petty cash. You need to
go to eleven trips. Here you go, roll out the cash.
We need to pay somebody to film some games. Like
It's just I just get tired of people wringing their
hands over problems that are really easy to solve, to
(30:00):
have been solved, And as I have said many times,
go ahead, look at my signs number one, I'm I'm
going to change at number two. I'll be like TCU
and I'll do you one better. Not only am I
going to, you know, show you the same signal and
you think I'm going to go base defense, I'm gonna
show you that signal and then I'm going to go
(30:20):
all out blitz and I'm going to kill your quarterback.
If you want to steal signs, I'm gonna I'm going
to just destroy your quarterback with an all up blitz
one time when he thinks it's going to be a
base call, because you're going to pay for the pay
for the fact that you're trying to steal signs. That's
the way it should be done. That's the way that
it should be handled in my view.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
There you go, Smith, you got your answer, all right. Look,
Smith was all outscited all all week Jake Cole that
we were going to get to see Sam Darnold and
proof once for all that it's not just the Jets.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
The Jets picked the right guy, they just didn't get
him ready. He's actually a good player.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
But now it looks like party make clear protocols to
get ready for this week's game.
Speaker 4 (31:10):
It was was Smith's like queuing up ghosts in the
machine or the ghost the police, right, and uh, you know,
to reminisce about the days of Sam Donald.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Well, he was his biggest champion. As you recall, I'm
in the room.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
I'm in the room, while you guys are I'm in
the room. I'm right here, I'm in the room.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
I mean the purposes of.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
This, you're this is not the first time we've ever
done this with you.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
And the Jets have a worse quarterback than they had before.
So there you go. Ah, who's a joke on now?
Speaker 4 (31:44):
Okay, yes, you thought about that one for a while. Okay, good.
It's like Party is their guy and Sam. Look, Sam
Donald is a really good dude, but he is is
the break glass in case of emergency quarterback right now.
He was the excuse to get rid of Trey Lance.
(32:07):
Probably you can get through a game or two with
Sam Darnold. But they need to have Rock Party if
they're if they're going to have any hope of winning
a championship this year. And that is not to say
that Brock Party is a game changing quarterback or any
of those things that people can assume, but for what
they're trying to do. You know, if they can get
a healthy team and not be missing key players like
(32:30):
Samuel or McCaffrey or Trent Williams for that matter. If
they can have that, you know, healthy team going to
the playoffs, they're as good as anybody, certainly anybody in
the NFC. They're right there with Philly.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
You can fob on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two.
That is, at Jason Cole sixty two. Just don't expect
his phone to be working for the entire time when
you call it.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
Well, yeah, you know it. The Ohio State fans are
trying to break the signal right now.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
Thinke it easy, buddy. We'll talk to you next week. Bye,
Jay call great stuff. As always from j Cole. We're
in the final stretch to get tickets to horse racing's
biggest moment of the year, World's Best headed to sant
Anita for the Breeders Cup World Championships November third and fourth.
Countdown begins now get tickets today at breeders Cup dot com. Well,
certainly a different take on the Michigan scandal. We'll have
(33:22):
more on that story coming up next hour on the
show Right now. Update from Game one of the World Series,
bottom the seventh, two outs, nobody on for the Rangers.
They trail the Diamondbacks five to three. Again, five to three,
bottom of the seventh, two outs, nobody on for the Rangers.
Coming up next, we have more NFL. It is a
big football Friday. Mike and I got to give your
(33:43):
upset special picks for this week. Can we stay red hot?

Speaker 1 (34:35):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live from the tiraq dot com Studios
top of the eighth inning in Texas, Diamondbacks up five
to three over the Rangers. They're batting with one out.
Zach Allen Nathan Valdi both long gone from this game.
It's gonna be the bullpens trying to lock it down
(34:57):
for the Diamondbacks here as they bat in the top
the thinning, trying to protect a two run lead with
six outs to go before they could capture Game one.
A big and maybe and the first big moment of
Victor wembin Yama's career. We have that coming up in
a few minutes for you. But time to get to
some NFL. Mike and I do this every week, we
give you our Upset Special picks for the week in
(35:19):
the NFL. I'm pumped. I'm ready. Two and oh last week,
look at your in in five on the season. Now,
I'm feeling pretty good my garment. I'm feeling good.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
Feeling good about yourself, as is the public overall through
the verse seven weeks of the season.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
All right, why don't you kick it off? Give us
your first Upset Special pick of the week. As long
as it's not the Giants.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
As long as it's not well, it won't be it
won't be that. I'm gonna go all the way to
Sunday Night football, not just because I'm gonna be there.
It's more where the line sits. Bear's getting eight and
a half on the road at the Chargers. I mean,
Brandon Staley did have some big moments in his life
at the local option, the bar that my brothers and
I attend and hang out at when we are together
(36:01):
in Chicago.
Speaker 6 (36:02):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
So he's got that. So he's a he's you know,
he warms my heart there. Uh, but not when it
comes to play calling. Bears under Tyson Bagent look like
a more cohesive you to get the ball out quickly,
move quickly, fight for the extra yard, and you saw
Deontay Foreman, uh leading the charge. Roshawn Johnson will be
back as well. I'll take the Bears plus the eight
(36:24):
and a half now.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Now, the only thing I could disagree with you with
on is that you guys will be at the game
because there are still two days for you and your
brothers to get arrested.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Today. I am currently on the radio with you, So
I think I'm pretty good knock Wood that I'll be
free in new days, two full days, Mike. But then
I'm gonna go crash the booth. Frostburg already knows this.
I'm I'm coming, and and then I'm gonna start yelling, uh.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
My first pick. I'm gonna go. It's shocking to do this,
but I'm gonna go with the team that hasn't won yet.
Give me the Panthers getting three and a half over
the Texans. Look, the Texans can't run, and their defense
isn't great. They give up a lot. Carolina's coming off
the bye, There's not a lot of places for a
win on this schedule. This is where I expect them
(37:19):
to play their best game. And I don't know that
all the strengths of the Texans play into what Carolina
struggles with defensively. This is gonna be a game where Hey, Carolinas,
the Carolina is getting three and a half points. Usually
I say, hey, you know, Carolina, I'm not gonna need
the three and a half points, but I'll take them. No, No,
I want every inch of this three and a half points.
(37:40):
I'll take every point you want to give me. But
give me Carolina plus three and a half over the Texans.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
If nothing else showcase game, Perhaps because the trade deadline Tuesday. Hey,
you want any of these guys, look at what they
look like in their last bit of tape with our squad.
All right, big week ahead. Obviously no buys this week,
which is exciting for us as we go. I am
gonna go with the home underdog, that is the fighting
(38:08):
Gardner minshees. Why because it's Derek Carr on the other side,
or will it be Taysom Hill. I don't know. We'll
see before it's all said and done, we'll see who
Carr gets to scream at this week. The Colt's the
narrow one to one and a half point underdog, So
not a massive upset here, but it's more just the
(38:28):
indictment on what's going on with the Saints. Yeah, PPR leagues,
Alvin Kamara is gonna score twenty points free again. Hot
route is the order of the day. But the fighting
Minshoes with that dual headed running approach hot R Michael
Pittman Junior alongside Josh Downs and Gardner Minshew running like
his Harison fire.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
You said Minshew's name like eleven times in picking this
said I said three times, so much so it's all
about hit his name three times And you said fighting
Minchew's and minshew Mania and then fight Minshoes again. I'm
counting the Minshoes. I'm counting all the minches.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
And then you said it nine more times. See what
I did? There a lot of energy towards the Colts.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
I am not a big fan of this team. The
fans are not a big fan of this team, even
though they're four and two. But give me the Steelers
getting three over the Jaguars. Look, Pittsburgh's defense is gonna
give Jacksonville issues. Yes, the Jaguars are hot. They've won
four in a row, but they haven't been they haven't
done it how good I thought they would be. Right,
(39:31):
Jacksonville's winning and that's great, right, and they're in a
bad division. They're doing what you want them to do,
but they have been doing it so impressively. Pittsburgh's offense
is starting to figure out what their identity is. They're
divving up the running responsibility. Getting Deontay Johnson back was huge.
I know he's on the injury report for this week,
but it looks like he's gonna be okay. Jacksonville's been hot.
This is a close one all the way. Pittsburgh being
(39:52):
at home is a big difference for me, just like Carolina.
Oh no, no, I'll take every inch of the three
points in this one. But Pitt getting three over Jacksonville, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
Big deal in this one is can they keep Watt
and Highsmith from getting home? If you can, then you
can work against that secondary. Kirk and even Calvin Ridley
might have something to say, but here you go. Here's
your stat for Tomlin Ready eighteen five and three is
a home dog in his career. Give me the Steelers
get what I did for you there.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
Thank you, buddy. I appreciate that I added value, and
hopefully I was warning your brothers to be on their
best behavior the next couple of years.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
That's too late for that.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
Coming up next the first big must here must see
moment of Wemby's career plus two big quarterback stories. Next,
this is Fox
