Quick update from the World Series bottom the eighth inning,
the Rangers have the leadoff batteran who else? Dolas Garcia
singles up the middle off of Heavin Ginkel, he of
the hillatious slider, so the Rangers have the leadoff batter
on again.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
They are down two. Diamondbacks lead at five to three.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
As the Rangers bat in the bottom of the eighth inning,
and uh, I'll tell you, Mike, I I know that, Hey,
nobody on you're gonna pitch to him. But if there's
ever a moment the rest of this series where Garcia
is up with a runner on base, why would you
pitch to him?
Speaker 4 (01:24):
I'm putting him on first base.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
I'm bubb there's no reason to pitch the hottest guy
we talked about. He's the Randy A. Rose Arena of
this year's MLB Playoffs. He talked about it a week
and a half ago. There's no way I pitched to
this guy. There's absolutely the runner at second. Yeah, go
just go down to first base. You are I'm not
even gonna mess around with this. Go down to first base.
I Am not gonna pitch to you. I he would
have like six or seven walks by the time this
(01:48):
serie again ended, if I was managing the Diamondbacks.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
And Harmon is speechless.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
Yeah, it was a hell of it at bat, and
he even tried to sneak up to first base on
ball three.
Speaker 6 (02:02):
Way to make sure the pitches.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
I want to make sure the umpire is paying attention.
You put me on first base.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
But that's it. Okay, he's stolen the game.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
Whatever, he made a mistake and you wanted to make
sure you're all you're all up to stuff. In other words,
I don't want to see that pitch again because they
put up the stat that opponents hit one.
Speaker 6 (02:20):
Fifty four against it. So jokes in the booth.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
And then he did a nice piece of hitting, grounding
it through and and now we'll see what they can
do against your man Ginkle.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
So uh he just got a strikeout.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
So there is now one out in the eighth inning
and the Dolas Garcia is still at first base.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
Uh So more in the World Series coming up.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
But we do have a big moment to tell you
about in the NBA, the Knicks, what not.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
I'll get more the next of the bit.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
The first must seem must hear my course, the Knicks er,
I'm sorry, the Knicks are a big deal and no
one cares about your bulls.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Okay, hit a three pointer, win the game?
Speaker 6 (02:59):
After that? Team one and they're ready?
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Did they have another team meeting after this game? Another
player's only meeting? Sorry, Donovan, you want done this anymore?
Speaker 5 (03:08):
Jamar DeRozan missed the second free throw that would have
given them the win. Instead, it goes to ot but
Caruso was clutched. Crusoe was there, so I got the
same record as you're sticking Nicks.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
There's there's Lakers fans going.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
If we had only had Alex Caruso the last three years,
we'd have three more championships.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
Caruso, I love you.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
He had thirteen rebounds tonight. Alex Caruso, You're got a
big teen rebounds. But the first must see, must hear
moment of Victor Wembin Yama's career. The Spurs beat the
Rockets won twenty six one two in overtime. Wemby with
a big night thirty one minutes, twenty one points, twelve rebounds,
(03:53):
a couple of steals and three blocks, and this to
send the game two overtime side the Devin vessel the
cell to the right wing, Kelvin Johnson fourteen to shoot
down to Weben Yama at the baseline, drives it inside
off the glass.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
Don's good bet, Webban Yama.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
We are tied at one eleven with twenty point two
seconds remaining of the game.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
Webn Yama with a strong baseline drive.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
And the Bucket Spurs Radio network on the call. That
shot sent the game to ot at one eleven a piece.
The Spurs outscore the Rockets in ot fifteen to eleven.
They win their first game of the season. And I'll
tell you, I know it's only two games. Well, let
me tell you what I really like so far. I
really like what Greg Popovich.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Is doing with wem Ben Yama. All Right.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
The propensity to give him a ton of minutes is
there because he's such a desirable piece.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
Everybody wants to see him. How do he play?
Speaker 1 (04:52):
But he's kept his minutes down and if it wasn't
for overtime tonight, he would have come in whenby somewhere
on the twenty five minute mark, which is about what
he should be at. Right between twenty twenty five minutes,
he gets used to the game and what do we
say coming off a game one big things. They get
used to the fact what he can do defensively, committing
personal fouls and be able to stay out of foul
trouble tonight just two fouls after five opening night, and
(05:15):
here they are not afraid to go to him in
a situation in which the game is in the balance, Right,
you have fifteen seconds left, and look, there's many many
things the Spurs can do. And Veceell certainly is a guy.
He's got twenty five points night. He's a guy they
also love down there in San Antonio. But going to
(05:35):
when Binyama, who goes in and hits that bucket, what
that does for his confidence and going forward, I'm telling
you everybody's sleeping on how good the Spurs can be
this year. Forget about well twenty five to twent They
can be a play in team. When you have a
guy like this, all you need to be is a
little bit under five hundred. And there's no reason why
the Spurs can't be that way because his learning curve
(05:58):
just seems to becoming faster, and he's like sky Man,
like you're learning faster and faster and faster. You can
see stuff from game one to game two. It'll be
game two to game three, and pretty soon it's gonna
be Hey, we're in the Wemby era of the NBA,
and as Rick Buker said last night, it's only a
matter of time before wembin Yama becomes the best player
in the league. And I'm telling you that's gonna get
sooner rather than later. It won't be here this year,
(06:19):
but he will be a big time force, and the
Spurs should be a playing team, and they should be
in the playing round, and we can run all kinds
of promos. Hey, Wemby's in the playoffs. See Wemby, See Wemby,
see Wemby. Webby's in the playoffs. Let's do it, you know,
while the Knicks are waiting, you know, because they're the
number one seed in the East, you will have Webbin
Yama to watch in the playing round.
Speaker 5 (06:38):
Yeah, you're also looking at Zach Collins and Keldon Johnson,
two players you hadn't mentioned there At Collins once upon
a time and Portland just couldn't stay healthy. They found
a formula to get him into sixty three games a
year ago. Yeah, he was over seven from three point range.
But a guy that still puts up some solid numbers.
If he can play in the mid thirties minutes wise,
(07:00):
you're feeling pretty good. And Keldon Johnson a guy that
averaged twenty two points for them a year ago. So again,
opportunity and to spread it out obviously, when Benyama is
the guy that we've got all our attention on zero
for six from three point range tonight, So no heroics
there as he did in his opener, but seven of nineteen.
(07:22):
You'll take those twelve twelve rebounds because that was the
stat I think after after Night one, the way he
kind of hung around the perimeter and didn't necessarily find
his way into the lane without causing problems, i e.
Speaker 6 (07:35):
Is five fouls right.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
Trying to figure out spacing and physicality and everything at
the NBA level, Well, it reverses itself, at least for
one night. Play some meaningful minutes in O t hit
a shot, hit a couple of free throws. Oh good,
Good for the Spurs. They're they're gonna be interesting for
the Rockets. Might be another long year, you know, with
(07:58):
all that youth we love there. Obviously, the Kevin Porter
junior thing was, it was a whole other.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Just wait, just wait till they get James harden back.
Just wait, Judea's way till I get James harden back.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
I mean, you saw the odds now it's it's if
he doesn't go to the Clippers, the Bulls are the
next in the betting markets. So see ben I would
be the first in line to get a Harden jersey.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Yeah, and you know what, Jerk, all this oh the
nixt you're getting hard and you're getting hardened.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
He goes to your bulls.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
It is just karma, man, That is karma coming back
to get you. That you're gonna wind up with James Harden.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
Yeah, but here's the problem. You had expectations, you had hope,
and you were fearful that his arrival would submarine whatever
there might be. I have no expectations of anything for
this damn team.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
But that's okay.
Speaker 6 (08:46):
Called the team meeting after night one for crying out lock.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
He's still gonna submarine stuff, whether you have expectations or not.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
Else he's still gonna secate. But last call three in Chicago?
Speaker 6 (08:58):
Are you Kidney?
Speaker 5 (09:00):
After every home game, it's like, let's follow his entourage
and figure out where the party is.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Look like, that's like in the horror movie when the
person is nice to the killer. You're nice to Hey chasing. No,
I'm cool, man, I'm cool. Just leave me alone. No,
he doesn't leave you alone. Come on, man, it's what
he does. Hey, Michael Myer, Sorry, man, just you know, Hey,
everything's cool.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
I'm not now. He doesn't leave you alone. It doesn't act.
It's gonnapen.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Whether whether you are really want expectations, it's just gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
But if I have no expectations, I could just sit
back and watch the floating river.
Speaker 6 (09:32):
Of dumpster fires and that's what it went me.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
But I'm all in for it watching him and Alex
Caruso come on together as Caruso everything, you know, head down,
play right, you know.
Speaker 6 (09:46):
I mean the other day, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (09:47):
I couldn't corroborate it, but there was a video in
my timeline of after being left home he was out
at the clone.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
So I mean, hey, let's go.

Well, Big Football Friday're gonna spend a lot of time previewing,
taking a look at the big games in the NFL
this weekend, and one game that gets bigger and bigger
with the news today are the Bengals and the forty niners.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Yes, you're looking at video from the.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Super Bowl of early in nineteen eighty one and Chris
Collins get their signals. Sure, but the thing with this
game is that it looks like Brock Purdy is going
to play. He has been practicing all week, you know,
he's been in concussion protocol, and according to reports, he
is going to play and start as long as he
passes his exam. Right, he's got to pass the concussion
(10:51):
test tomorrow and if that happens, he will play on Sunday. Now, Okay,
I get that, and all that is fine, but if
that doesn't tell you what the forty nine ers think of, Hey,
we can play Sam Donald and get by a week.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
Nothing else does.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
This is an early part of the season where you're
still leading the division, and yes, the last couple weeks
have not gone as well as you thought, but now
you have your quarterback and there's a concussion question and
we don't know. Rather than say, hey, you know what, Yes,
you might be able to get back and things will
be okay, but let's give you another week just in
case we're on top of the division.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
Everything is fine.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Instead, it's no, No, if you pass that test, you
are going to be starting for us. This tells you
all the Sam Donald, Sam Sam darn the guy. When
Sam Donald starts, it's going to be called Sam Donal's. No,
they do not want Sam Donald starting for this football
team at all. All that everything you need to know
about what they feel about Sam is in that right there.
As long as he passes a concussion test, he's going
(11:47):
to play on Sunday.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
No, I appreciate you, but I'm flipping it the other way.
This is how much they love themselves some rocked party.
And yes, maybe it's a little bit of a backhand
slight to Sam Darnald. But if brock Perty is the
guy you've leaned all in on and you believe he's
that transcendent, which depending on who you talk to, right,
that's been it. That he's the guy that you're trying
(12:11):
to get up and right and ready to play in
what is a big game against Cincinnati.
Speaker 6 (12:17):
Right, it's not.
Speaker 5 (12:18):
It's a non conference game, so maybe not the same way. Right,
it's not a division round, our division game after the
last couple of weeks of struggles, but still one that
you're you're in a testing mode of a team that
has great expectations on the surge a little bit in Cincinnati.
I think it's more just the if we can get
(12:39):
our guy up and ready to go, we're not giving
away games of Brock parties run here. If he's healthy
and clear his protocol doesn't mean we hate Sam Darnold's
like we like the other guy that much more.
Speaker 6 (12:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
I the fact that it's as long as he as
long as he passes, he's playing, and that's that's a
little bit more than just we can't wait to get
our guy. It's a little bit. This is hey, we
want to be careful. It's a head injury. We don't
know where he got the concussion. We don't know where
it was. He didn't start feeling well on the plane
back home.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
That's a thing. I mean, it's kind of a thing. Now.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
I'm not saying that the forty nine ers are are
pushing anything and saying, oh they're they're fudging anything. My
point is that you could easily just say, you know what,
this week, okay, all right, let's let's you know, take
a seat, takey.
Speaker 6 (13:24):
I get it.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
It's okay, it's a short week. It's a short week.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Anyway, and we can sit you and we don't want
to worry about anything long term, but the fact that
it's as long as you pass your in. Yeah, they're
not filled with confidence in Sam Donald. Sam Darnold is
there just to be a backup quarterback and and if
he absolutely has to play, but this is not where Hey,
if Sam Darnald gets in there, he's gonna wind up beat. No,
they do not want him taking a snap that means
(13:49):
anything for this team.
Speaker 6 (13:51):
Wow, you really went and cut your guy down.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
Just tell that man, he hasn't been my guy.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
It's been two teams since we since he was a
jetted two teams.
Speaker 6 (14:00):
When you're a Jet, you're always a Jet. Do you
not know the song?
Speaker 4 (14:03):
You know the song.
Speaker 6 (14:04):
We've sung this song on Radio four.
Speaker 7 (14:08):
No.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
It is the curiosity though of you know, if Purdy's limited,
what would Sam Darnald come to the rescue. A lot
of folks standing for Sam darnld this week. Let me
tell you, I've seen a number of well hot take,
nonsense loud takes about Sam Darnald, and I think part
of it is a hatred and indictment of the Jets
(14:29):
more than anything else, probably just figuring that Shanahan's gonna
fix it.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Yeah, well, the Jets are the Jets are the real
America's team now, so it's kind of come full circle
on them.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Really yeah really yeah yeah yeah sure.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Jets and Cowboys, two most popular teams in the NFL.
Why do you think last week was you?
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Wait? Wait, where did you gottstat?
Speaker 1 (14:48):
Who's Who's had the highest three rated games on television
on Sunday afternoon, Sunday Night and Monday night this year?
Speaker 4 (14:55):
Jets, Jets, Jets.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
Well, one of them was a Taylor Swift game, but
it's still Jets. Still, the Jets were playing well, does
it mean they didn't play in the game. Doesn't mean
they didn't play in the game.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Jets.
Speaker 5 (15:05):
One one of them was what kind of crazy blank
is Aaron Rodgers gonna do?
Speaker 1 (15:10):
Jet doesn't matter America's team, New America's team. Cowboys and
Jets are the two biggest das. Should play every week?
Cowboys and Jets, you play? Well, I don't like that
because the Cowboys, well they played one day, two America's teams.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
They're both America's team now.
Speaker 5 (15:21):
Well, I mean to be fair, right, I mean, there
is the love hate relationship that some have with the
political system and things American.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
Right now, So yeah, go ahead, I ad it it extends. Meanwhile,
I say us hey, us hey.
Speaker 1 (15:36):

c Well. Former met legend Paul sewalders in to try

Speaker 4 (17:16):
Leaded five to three over the Rangers.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Rangers coming up now, nobody out, Nobody on in the
bottom of the ninth inning. We'll have the breaking news
if this game ends from Steve de Sega coming up
in a few minutes. But big games to look at
this weekend. You you picked your Bears for the big
upset special this week and in the NFL, get what
are they getting thirty seven points against the Charge eight.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
And a half?
Speaker 8 (17:43):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (17:43):
But I got news for you because you think it
can happen, But it can. Tyson Bagent, playing his second
game justin Fields can very easily lose his job to
this guy really soon. Okay, Fields, as talented as he
is and as good as he has played at times
(18:06):
last year, I mean, look, thousand yards rushing for a quarterback,
but still didn't win a lot of games. And now
you're saying yourself, what are we gonna do after this year?
There's more quarterbacks available, maybe we picked first overall. Keep losing, Carolina,
keep losing, but it's gonna be really easy for them
to turn the page and say, let's go with Tyson Pagent. Right,
(18:26):
because the offense watching this game last week with him,
they look less stressed out right, It's not where the
Bears offense with Fields and it's boy, what are they doing?
Is there any cohesion here? It's just is he gonna
be able to make plays athletically? Can he find Dj Moore?
The offense just looks a little bit less stressed out,
(18:47):
and it looks like the offense that Chicago has probably
wanted to run, but they can't because well, Justin Fields
has a very unique skill set and they just haven't
been able to either commit themselves to it or figure
out the happy medium. But as long as he plays well,
and he played well last week, they're gonna think maybe
we have the new brock Purty. There's gonna gather momentum
(19:10):
for him to be the starter. It's not that Fields
will lose his job right away. It'll be Hey, Beijing
will play well, Fields will come back from his injury
eventually and get another chance to keep the job. But
if he plays poorly, they will go to Beijing. Why
because these coaches all want to keep their jobs, right,
Heberflus wants to keep his job. They all want to
keep their jobs. And a quarterback change mid season where
(19:30):
they can stand up and say, hey, we had the
wrong guy. We may have the right guy now we
can see, but maybe if we don't we have the
we'll draft a quarterback begin you know this year coming
we didn't draft Justin Fields.
Speaker 4 (19:43):
He is the old regime coming in.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
If we're thinking about moving on from him anyway, after
this year.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
If we are thinking about it, why not do it
right now?
Speaker 1 (19:53):
Why not go to Beijing see if we can save
the season a little bit and see.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
What we have.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
If he's great, hey maybe you do have the next
rock party. If not, at least things are a little
bit calmer. We're not answering questions every week. We're not
trying to get everybody on the same page of wondering
exactly what Justin Field is going to do this week
and have him be the big story. This can happen
very very easy. Again, he plays well, he'll keep playing.
Fields will come back get a chance. If not, that's
(20:20):
going to be it. They'll go to Bijent for the
rest of the season and let the chips fall where
they may. Maybe they stay in contention, maybe they're tanking.
Maybe Beigean's a good player, maybe he's not. Maybe they
get a quarterback next year, but that's going to be
it for Justin Fields.
Speaker 5 (20:31):
I appreciate your a hot takery, but the amount of
thought you've put into this, I would say to counter
point number one, the Raiders stink a right, Okay, guys
doing local reports and look, it takes nothing away from
what Beijin did.
Speaker 6 (20:52):
They went and executed.
Speaker 5 (20:54):
A flawless game plan, got the ball out quickly, decisively,
the offensive line got a push and using cold Comet
who did some radio round saying, ah, this was not
the Raiders team that we saw on tape, So take
that for what it is. Maybe you just hype them
(21:15):
up in your minds, but either way, they went out
and bludgeoned them. And you saw the run game between
Evans and obviously Deonta Foreman. Just go to town and
the opportunities there with obviously the pass rushers that you
have to be cognizant of there for the charger, but
you can beat them downfield, you can make plays. And
(21:36):
will they have the patience to push it or will
it continue to be it?
Speaker 6 (21:40):
Because if the average depth of throw for.
Speaker 5 (21:42):
Beijing was two point five yards, Jason, so that that
one's not sustainable over a longer period. And I agree
with you. It looked a little less frenetic. But what's
curious is whether it becomes a situation like is developing
with the Giants and Daniel Joe of all right, we've
got someone in to rodd Taylor. It's a little calmer.
(22:05):
You got an injury that could be long standing, his
long standing for Jones and maybe you know this is
not he said, I don't have a crystal ball in
putting him back, which is to say he's hurt. It
ain't right, the system wasn't right and wasn't working with him.
Torod Taylor's calmed it down. So mate, you may have
some parallels going on there with you know as you
(22:28):
as Stuteley pointed out that it just looked like a
calmer operation, a little less stressed and quick deliverables. Like
I said, the quick deliverables were at an average depth
of two point five yards. Eventually you got to start
pushing the ball down the field. So we'll expect the
(22:48):
Chargers to be game upfront. And let's face it, last
time Khalil Mack faced a former team, he absolutely terrorized
the quarterback.
Speaker 6 (22:56):
Let's see if he can do it with another former
team here.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
And yeah, but it's Brandon Staley, it's Brandy, you know.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
But that's why I picked up plus eight and a half, buddy,
So I said plus eight and a half. I mean,
come on, now, they're gonna hang around now, it's just
a question. Like Beijing, it really intrigues me, and we
talked about it even before the start last week. Was
that when he did his press availabilities and when you
(23:24):
had guys like DJ Moore standing up, he didn't have
to go and and really wash him up before that
first start. You're gonna get the number of target your way.
But talked about how calm he was and his approach
and his demeanor and you know Beijing for everything was Look,
I've worked hard, worked my ass off to get to
this point.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
This is my shot. All right.
Speaker 5 (23:44):
He went all M and M and he's got the
chess piece and everything too, so it's got everything going
to become a full hero in Chicago, no question exit.
Speaker 4 (23:55):
How about a Fresco exit?
Speaker 1 (23:56):
Swollen down the Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Rmy.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
We have more NFL coming up in ninety seconds.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
However, however, a big turn of events at the World
Series X met Paul Sewald was into closing out and
I say x met because a very Mets thing happened
in the bottom of.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
The ninth special Deliveries. Singer has the latest on this
and more SD.
Speaker 8 (24:23):
Corey Seeger has hit the tying to run Homer in
the bottom of the ninth of Game one of the
World Series at Texas. It is five to five now
with two outs in the ninth when Chanoa Dolas Garcia
gets hit by a pitch, so the inning is not
quite over. Seeger remember was World Series MVP for the
Dodgers in twenty twenty and MVP of the NLCS just
(24:45):
before that in twenty twenty. All of those postseason games
were played in this stadium in Texas, a neutral site.
He had seven homers between those two series. He now
has seventeen postseason home runs in under three hundred playoff
at bats in his career, and he hits it off
a hot reliever. Paul Sewald, as you mentioned, started his
(25:07):
major league career with the Mets, but had thirty four
saves this season between Seattle and Arizona. And yet, despite
going six for six and converting saves this postseason, he
blows the save tonight. Taking his base at first is
Garcia and now runner at first. Two outs, bottom of
the ninth, Mitch Garver, the DH up in Texas, make.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
It runner at second.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Garcia has just stolen second, the winning run now at
second base.
Speaker 8 (25:34):
Do we get another taco for that?
Speaker 1 (25:36):
No?
Speaker 4 (25:37):
I think so.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
I think if you go you just because you enjoyed
this game, you enjoy an extra taco.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
Steve, can I just walk into Taco Bell and say that. Listen,
I really enjoyed Game one. Me too, So here's what
I want for free?
Speaker 4 (25:49):
Wait? Wait, well, no, I enjoyed Game one, watched the game.
Speaker 8 (25:52):
No, as we brought up last hour, it's a scam, Sam,
you gotta be a whole member of the rewards of
the forget it, forget it, Sam. He can't just walk in. Well, Paul,
see what I did. Look it up in his first
four years in the majors. And this is as a
reliever with the New York Mets record of one and fourteen.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
Well e five and a half.
Speaker 6 (26:12):
He got that one.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
He wasn't good. He wasn't good.
Speaker 6 (26:15):
He was really good.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Here they didn't.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
And they did an interview with him the New York
Post the other day, and you know, because it's they're
kind of always looking for, Hey, what's the local angle
to the World Series? So uh, they asked him and
he said, oh, as soon as I left the Mets,
like he developed another pitch and he learned where to
throw his fastball a little bit more and suddenly.
Speaker 4 (26:35):
Now, yeah, so he couldn't.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
Once I left the Mets, boy, I learned out, basically
saying I left the Mets and I learned how to pitch.
That's basically what he was saying. I learned what I
can do. This now look at him. The guy's lights out. Well,
except for that pitch to Cord.
Speaker 8 (26:48):
I think we've proven statistically that the Mets did not
begrudgingly grant him free agency in that particular offseason when
he left the Mets. Well, five five in the bottom
and the ninth inning, My goodness, Ka tell Marte by
a way, if Arizona now has a seventeen game hitting
streak that ties the postseason record. Arizona has been running
(27:09):
wild again tonight. Playing to their strengths. They now have
four playoff games this year with at least four steals.
That's the most by any team in a single postseason
and also a doulas Garcia had an RBI tonight. That's
seven straight playoff games with a run betted in the
record is eight straight, Ryan Howard in two thousand and nine. Well,
we can update you that Paul Seewald has picked up
(27:32):
a strikeout to finally end the bottom of the ninth.
But we're going to the tenth inning of Game one
of the World Series on Fox TV. It's tied at
five because Seawald walked the leadoff man in the ninth,
and so when Seger came up with one out, his
long ball was a two run homer. And by the way,
it was a first pitch fastball up it went straight
(27:53):
out of there, estimated to go nearly four hundred and
twenty feet to write five to five the game in
the tenth did we mention The NBA have eleven games tonight,
among them a Knicks win and a Bulls win in overtime.
Nick's got thirty one points from Jalen Brunson in a
victory in Atlanta one twenty six one twenty, Bulls one in
OT one O four one oh three against Toronto on
(28:15):
a late three pointer by Alex Caruso. San Antonio win
overtime beat Houston one twenty six one twenty two, and
at Dallas, Luka Donsich with forty nine points no turnovers
in a MAVs win against Brooklyn one twenty five to
one twenty. There are a few games still going on
in the NBA, including in the fourth quarter, Utah leading
(28:36):
the Clippers seven minutes to go ninety nine ninety five.
Speaker 4 (28:39):
Back to you, Thanks a bunch, Steve O.

a little bit more on Corey Seger's home run here.
(29:07):
This is one of those where, oh, when the guy
hits it, you're not sure. No, no, he swung that
bat and as soon as he finished swing, he turned
and screamed at the dugout. He knew it was gone
upper deck blast to tie the game. And this is
one of those This is one of those series potentially
where the series can turn in game one, right, there's
(29:28):
always a turning point in every World series, every NBA Finals,
and sometimes it's Game four, sometimes it's Game five sometimes
we hit the game step. Sometimes that turning point is
game one, right, what was the turning point of the
Dodgers first series against the Diamondbacks when the when the
Diamondbacks put five on the board off of Clayton Kershow
that was a series and it was it was over then,
but it was really over just two games after that,
(29:49):
but it ended right then. This is one of those
moments where you're the Diamondbacks and you are thinking, we
got it. Well, we got a red hot reliever on
the mound, and we got a two not a one
Rea League, We got a two one lead. We feel
pretty good. And you walk the lead off batter and
Seeger hits a bomb and suddenly it's we went from
we're gonna be up one zip on the in the
World Series, taking game one on the road, and now
(30:12):
it's a free for all and the Rangers have all
kinds of momentum. They got to our stopper out out
of the bullpen, and now we'll be able to come
back with ours. This this is one of those times
where hey, the momentum and the series can sometimes change
and game one can be the turning point.
Speaker 5 (30:28):
Lead off, walk up one. If I'm the manager. I'm
taking a bat to the water. I mean, my goodness.
And then seeger my pick for Series MVP.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
Yeah, your pick looks pretty good.
Speaker 6 (30:42):
Right now, launches.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
He's got to be the leader right now, right, he's
got to be the leader. Right He's got got the big.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Home run in game one, yeah, one thing.
Speaker 6 (30:49):
Three, the home run to RBI and he scored three runs.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
I'll tell you look, I'll tell you man. And you know,
I was It's funny thinking when Desager was talking about
the walk to the lead off batter, and you know,
obviously I think back to Dennis Eckersley walking Mike Davis
right before Gibbson it's the home run that wins.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
The game and all that.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
And just in the last few years, you know, you
hear all the time about walks now and now coaches
go crazy, managers go crazy.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Yes, one hundred percent.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
I mean, I can't tell you how many times when
when I'm coaching, and I'm coaching and and one of
my pitchers walks the lead off batter and I go,
that's a run. And all the time I say, if
you walk the lead off batter, that's a run, that's
a run. I mean, we we have to play the
rest of the inning as if we know they're getting
at least one run. You walk the lead off batter,
that's a run. And I now I know why managers
just their insides are like, I don't know what happened
(31:38):
to me that I walk. Go Just don't she if
she hits and gets on bait, let her get on bet,
don't walk the lead off batter.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
And then watching it tonight, like you walk the lead
off batter.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
The Rangers are already feeling pretty tight going to the
bottom of the ninth th inning, not coming through for
any runs in the last five innings, after Gallon guts
out five innings and suddenly here you go, you give
them life by walking the leadoff hitter. It's it's just
one of those moments where you go, ah, that just
changed everything.
Speaker 4 (32:03):
That just changed everything.
Speaker 5 (32:05):
A quick research item on this one. Last year, leadoff
walks scored about twenty two percent of the time, but
you know, anecdotal evidence says it often gets up near
a third of the time.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
I think it's more like eighty five percent of the time.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
It no, but it's the feels like versus the data.
But I get your point.
Speaker 8 (32:29):
Right.
Speaker 5 (32:29):
I mean, because look, when it's your team, it weighs
so heavily. Come on, because you know the next pitch
is going to be groove somewhere over the plate because
they're trying to find the zone again, right, So you're
gonna have the opportunity.
Speaker 6 (32:40):
And that's exactly what Seger did with that first pitch.
Speaker 4 (32:43):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swalling down.
Speaker 1 (32:45):

Speaker 1 (33:36):
Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon live from the tire rack dot Com Studios.
I believe it was the immortal Ralph Kiner, Yeah, or
Met's announcer who coined the phrase.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
Oh those bases on balls. But this is what's happening
right now.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
To the Diamondbacks last inning, Paul Seawalld, the closer, is
in to try to close it out, get up a
walk to the leadoff batter, Corey Seger, where a two
run homer ties the game. Now you're talking about a
five to five game in the bottom of the tenth
inning and Nelson is into pitch. And what does Kyle
Nelson do. He walks the lead off batter, so the
(34:14):
winter run at first, nobody out for the Rangers.
Speaker 5 (34:18):
I just think back to my White Sox announcers and
Ken Harrelson. Right now, even before any ball is hit
after a leadoff walk, he'd be on the version of cursing, yelling,
you gotta be kidding me. Come on, there's no waxing poetic.
It's not statistics time. It is pure vitrio and hatred
(34:40):
for the base on ball.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
So we'll have more on the World Series coming up
in a few minutes. Again, Rangers are batting in the
bottom of the tenth inning and nobody on the winning
run is at first base.
Speaker 4 (34:53):
Actually make it? Oh a double play?
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Wow whoo head on Marte helped turn the double playing
your Diamondbacks.
Speaker 4 (35:04):
Wow my MVP pick, you're getting Marte?
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Uh yeah, a big ground at a short and he
turns it at second, big throw to first.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
And now two outs. Nobody on.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
Sometimes it happens that quick. But still, oh, those bases
on balls. So more World Series coming up in a
few minutes. But time to take a look at the
biggest game of the week in the NFL. We got
we other big games and quarterback news and everything to
get to. But Rams and the Cowboys is maybe the
most intriguing game on the slate on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
You have a Rams team that.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
I keep waiting for them to explode offensively, and I
think this is the week where you're gonna see this
be a much tougher game than is expected. The Rams
are gonna give Dallas fits in this game. Stafford's gonna
spread the ball all over the field, he'll rediscover two
two at Well, who only had one target last week.
It was a touchdown, but I think he was trying
to throw the ball to Cooper Cup. So there was
(35:59):
that this game is gonna be harder than expected. But
here's the thing with the Cowboys. They're just talented enough.
They will make enough plays. Micah Parsons will get to
the quarterback enough. It's gonna be a high scoring game.
Dallas coming off the buy will be a little bit
more focused and refocused on what's going on. They'll be
a little too much. It's gonna be a Dak Prescott
(36:20):
game because it's been a Dak Prescott week going hey,
you need to step up. He's answering questions about himself.
Other his teammates have to jump to his defense, saying
Dak is great, Dak is great. This will be a
Dak Prescott game. There'll be a lot of points to
turn around for the Rams is coming. But this week
the Cowboys are gonna get out of this. Give me
the Dallas Cowboys thirty four to twenty eight in this one.
Speaker 6 (36:40):
Forty four and a half. You're over under six and
a half points.
Speaker 5 (36:44):
The last spread I saw Dallas favorite of course at home.
I think they bludgeon them this week, even though they
changed out the kicker, and everybody's gonna point to that, like,
you know what, score more points, don't put it on
the leg of a kicker, right, But.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
You still need a guy making those kills.
Speaker 1 (37:03):
I mean, you know they got a guy that missed
seven points last week.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
Mike would have no. I get the point.
Speaker 5 (37:08):
But again, you know, if if everybody was so quick
to take Brock Purdy out to the woodshed after the
loss when his kicker missed a very makeable forty one yarder,
I can say, hey, how about you guys play better offense?
Speaker 4 (37:25):
Why can't I do that?
Speaker 5 (37:27):
Sure, I just joined the cacophony of nonsense, but legitimately
for the Rams, right, you move the ball up and
down the field, finish the job, finish the drive, and
be more efficient in those red zone operations. But change
out the kicker. That's fine. Next level I'm looking for.
For Dallas. It's been a lot of noise, a lot
(37:48):
of whispers, a lot of conjecture. Something we've talked about
trade deadline coming up. Maybe I spoke it into existence
and Jerry heard the show talking about just go get
Derek Henry already be done with it. Uh so we
we've got that, you know, whispers. If he doesn't end
up in Baltimore, that's potentially one of the things. Maybe
they get another wide receiver.
Speaker 4 (38:10):
We can make the trade. We're not gonna call anybody.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
They call us, we can make the trade, but I'm
not gonna call them.
Speaker 5 (38:15):
Which in some way, as I think him saying, call me,
pick up the phone and just call me, singing it
out like Billy Crystal.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
You think you think the Titans would stand up and
say you could have Derrick Henry for free, Jerry Jones,
but you gotta call us right now.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
I want this.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
I'm gonna phone ringing and I'm gonna put it up
online so people can see it. But you gotta call
me now. I'm not not gonna do it. I'm sorry, sorry,
not gonna happen. You gotta you call me. We can
make that trade. But not not doing it, not doing no,
not showing it. The Cowboys are desperate that I gotta
make a phone call to make a trade.
Speaker 6 (38:48):
And you know, and that billboard near AT and T Stadium.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
You know what, That's the thing about the Cowboys is
that they just need to go play football. They gotta
suck it up and just play because this is a
team that is so fragile mentally.
Speaker 4 (39:02):
I mean, you have stuff.
Speaker 1 (39:04):
Every few days with Micah Parsons defending Dak Prescott, Cede
Lamps says, I want the ball, and it's Jerry Jones
on the radio every week saying we're a super Bowl
team and we don't need to go get anybody. I
don't want anybody to start crying. I don't want to
have to hold a baby and rock it back to sleep.
The Cowboys are just so fragile mentally, and every week
Jerry Jones is saying, hey, no, no, no, everything is fine.
(39:25):
I want to tell you guys that we don't need
any players. We don't need Dallas. Just suck it up
and go play. You're all professionals, man. Just suck it up.
Go along with the territory of what happens when you
play for the Dallas Cowboys. Stop being coddled every single
week because that's what happened with Dallas.
Speaker 5 (39:39):
Just channel that inner hatred towards UH talking heads and
ex players, right, Micah Parsons and everybody else, go actually
take that out into the field.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swalling down The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. All that still,
Dallas should get the w this week? What about the
world series winning run is now it's with two outs.
Home run hero Corey Seeger is up coming up next
to me talking about a huge comfort behind Wenda.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
This is Fox, Jason to Mike
