(00:52):
The Lions are on the cusp of being the new
team there. You know, the Lions might be a Super
Bowl team. I told you before the season started the
Lions were going to this. Do you still trust Jared
Goff eight seven seven ninety nine. The Lions lead the
Raiders twenty six to fourteen five and a half to
go in the game. They have second goal. Hey, Craig
(01:15):
Reynolds touchdown was just called back for a hold holding
call on Skipper that brings it back. We got the
longest look at an offensive line coach I think that
we've had in recent memory, as they showed Hank Stay
stalking the sideline. A little salty that the hold was called.
But yeah, the Lions get the ball in great field
(01:36):
position after Jimmy Garoppolo takes yet another sack. Are you
protecting your quarterback rating? At some point get rid of
the damn ball you're looting would be tacklers, and then
you still take the sack. Get rid of the damn
ball instead.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
A couple of big plays, you know, double digit yardage
on the first two plays of the drive and now
third in goal as we get up inside five minutes
left in the game.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
But just remember when tomorrow you hear about they wait
a minute, make room for the lines at the top
of the NFL. We told you before the season, I
told you the Lions going to the Super Bowl, their
offenses loaded. They're even better than I thought they would be,
hitting the midway point at six and two, most likely
better than I thought. I thought they'd be a five
hundred team, a fun five hundred team, but they'd really
(02:25):
pick it up second half of the season. But instead,
guys like Jamiir Gibbs, who's having an incredible night tonight. Yeah,
Sam Laportam, who's the best young tight end in the NFL.
These guys have come in like blazing and so now
here they are middle of the season, and with everybody
losing yesterday, you clearly see that, Hey, the Niners have problems.
(02:45):
The Eagles look bored and they turn the ball over
a lot. The Dolphins are beatable. Issues they need to
fix in that secondary. Right, the Dolphins are beatable. The
Chiefs certainly are beatable. They need a wide receiver tomorrow.
They should be making a big trade. Why not the Lions.
You're gonna see why not the Lions? And hey, why
not the Lions. Their offense is humming better than almost
(03:05):
every team. They're gonna kick a field goal here to
go up twenty nine to fourteen with five minutes left
to go, and they are five minutes away from being
six and two, and suddenly, whoa woo woo. Maybe the
road to the Super Bowl goes through Ford Field. Just
think about that. Look at you the road to the
super Bowl goal through forth. Get ready, get ready to
say it. And just as I say that, they miss
(03:26):
a twenty six yard field goal, well you know close,
you know, you know, man, twenty six. Now you opened
up the door for them to fail. Where's jameson what
you did? Where's Jason Hanson when you need him?
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Come on, man, he's got to be like sixty five
years old, get him out there.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
He kicked. The retirement age is older. Now let's go.
Jason Hanson kicked for like twenty years with the line.
I'll tell you what. Kicking in the NFL disastrous.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
But I'm talked about the flags earlier with the I'm
gonna throw it and then I'm gonna pick it up
and I'm gonna look at my guy down the line.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
Are you sure? Are you sure? I'll get picking up?
But You're right.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
The Lions as we sit right now, because I think
every one of these teams needs to at least be
on the phone trying to do some tinkering. Right, we've
watched it with the forty nine ers, there have been
rumors about what they need to do, even before Joe
Burrow and the Bengals had their way with the defense
even before that, rumors of hey, we need another guy
up front alongside Bosa and we need someone on the
(04:26):
back end. So that's already been in motion and they
need to find out all right, Williams, Look, you're not
replacing a Trent Williams, but is there anything you can
do there? Not to mention the fact that you have
Deebo Samuel being out really changes some of the way
that offense works together.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
As well.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
For the Eagles, they need a little help in the secondary.
They already brought in Byered. Remember the AJ Brown said, hey,
welcome to a winner. So you got that mixed in.
But you've seen the last couple of weeks. You can
move on them, right, you can put up some points.
So you want to squash that a bit, as it were.
The South is a mess, the West is interesting. I'll
(05:07):
be curious. Seattle's gonna be buyers. They're gonna go and
make another play, right bringing in Williams today well, and
now with the you know forty nine ers soft underbelly exposed,
perhaps they move in for the kill Schneider and Pete Carroll.
But yeah, your Detroit Lions will be the talk of
everybody tomorrow. As you've been leading that parade, you and
(05:33):
Taylor Lions, Lions, Lions, Lions, Lions, Lions. At the end
of last year, right watching the offense start to come together,
and there's still questions about Jared gob I would offer this,
you know, when we're talking about teams making acquisitions and
making big moves, as we watch a ball far harmlessly
(05:53):
in complete, David Mountgomery is gonna come back into that
offense and having him and Gibbs is a one and two.
It's gonna help to mitigate the number of possible mistakes
from Jared Goff, and that's good for you and your Lions.
I'm telling you, man, the Lions are loaded. I've told
you from the beginning, and when you hear it tomorrow,
you're gonna remember that we told you, and I picked
(06:14):
the lines in the preseasons.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
You could tell the lie ahead of the curve. That's
why we call the show ahead of the curve. Dan Campbell,
the players believe in him. He's turned Jared Goff into
an MVP candidate. The Lions offense may be the most
dangerous offense in the NFC, certainly the outside of the Dolphins.
I don't know that I take another offense with this.
There's so many weapons. I mean, they haven't even gotten
anything from Jamison Williams yet. This guy. I mean, at
(06:37):
some point you got to say, oh, is the guy
really gonna break through? Because you know, yes he was heard,
but now he's come back and out. You know he's
getting like nine snaps a game. But it doesn't matter
because Sam laport has become the best rookie tight end right,
and del cacid is starting to break out a little bit.
But Sam Laporta clearly from the beginning, has jumped right
into this offense, right, And it doesn't matter because Josh
Reynolds catches passes when I'm on Ross, Saint Brown is out,
(06:59):
and it makes no difference who was in this team
continues to roll right. If Jamier Gibbs wasn't doing what
he was doing tonight, David Montgomery, if he was healthy,
would be doing the exact same thing.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Well, you could impose your will. I mean we did
see that on tape with the Bears last week of
you could run over the Raiders, right. We watched it
from Deontay Foreman, who had a massive game and Darrington Evans,
who was essentially out of the league. He came back
in and they both ran a muck against the Raiders.
(07:29):
So being able to do power running and make plays
no surprise whatsoever. But yeah, they're set up really nicely
right now health wise. You know, they've got their squad together.
Jamison Williams, you know, he even got a gift. Remember
they cut his suspension down a game to let him
come back, and he still hasn't been able to reintegrate properly.
(07:52):
So if that is a weapon that eventually becomes something
that you just have four or five plays that are
designed to get in the ball, it's another explosive option
as yet untapped.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
We're in the final stretch. You get tickets to horse
racing's biggest moment of the year. The world's best are
headed to San Anita for the Breeders Cup World Championships
this week November third and fourth, So the countdown begins now.
Get your tickets today at Breeders Cup dot com. Bet
Johnson for President. We'll have more in the NFL game
coming up a little bit, and the Lions looking getting
closer and closer to the Super Bowl, and maybe after
(08:26):
what we just saw DeVante Adams is closer and closer
being traded. But it's Week eight, man, but ye super Bowl.
But World Series Game three is in the books. The
Rangers beat the Diamondbacks by the final of three to one.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
They take a two games to one lead in the
World Series. So now you know it at worst for
Texas the series. We'll go back there and Arizona really
asked questions after an incredible game pitch by the Rangers tonight. Look,
it was look not like the only we had a
bad game from the Diamondbacks because fought pitched pretty well,
right he had. He had a pretty close to a
(09:03):
quality start. But with the Rangers Max Scherzer going out
after three innings, John Gray comes in no runs for
three innings. The bullpen takes care of it. That's an
unexpected boost that you got from the Rangers who was
probably saying, oh, man, here goes Schuerzer. But this game
is as we talked about this series. As we talked
(09:23):
about it's an NBA Jam World Series. Each team has
two elite players and they each bat in the top
three of the lineup. The Rangers have Seeger and Garcia
and the Diamondbacks have Corbyn, Carroll and Kettle Marte. And
you can see in all three games who wins Whoever's
NBA Jam team has a better game. And tonight Garcia
(09:45):
and Sager were better. Why because Corey Sager had a
two run homer and for the Diamondbacks, their duo of
Marte and Carrol not as good, combined one for six.
Carrol strikes out for a huge out in the eighth
inning off of Eraaldas Chapman on an off speed pitch
where the first two batters have gotten on base, they
got a run, they were looking to rally and Corbyn.
Carrol strikes out for the first out of the inning,
(10:07):
taking a lot of air out of the balloon. But
that's really what it is. It's an NBA Jam World Series,
and it's the two best players on the Diamondbacks and
the two best players on the Rangers, and everybody else
are a bunch of guys. There are a bunch of
guys filling in. Now. The one caveat to this is
what's going to happen with the Rangers with a Dolus Garcia,
because he left the game in the eighth inning with
(10:29):
a strained left o bleak flew out, started to run
down to first base, stopped running, looked like grabbed his
left side. He comes out with a strained o bleak,
and now his status for the rest of the World Series.
Who knows. So if you're taking the NBA jam out,
you're not gonna tell me that Corey Seeger. You're gonna
sit back and go, Okay, Well, it's gonna be gonna
be Singer and Marcus Simeon. No, no, it's gonna be
(10:51):
Seger and Garver. No, it's gonna be That's a huge,
huge blow because you're talking about a guy who is
super human so far in the playoffs, who you're counting
every time he comes up to hit a home run
and chances, and generally he does that. If they're missing him,
that flips the World Series. Even though the Rangers sit
here with a two games to one lead after winning tonight,
that is a huge There's not anybody that could get
(11:14):
hurt that would have a bigger impact on the World Series.
So while it's NBA jam, it could be NBA Jam
minus one.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Well, now we get to see the old next man
up who can find a space because we're always looking
for unexpected heroes in these moments, Right, isn't that what
we always talk about October and special moments.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
Well, here you go, guys, here's your opportunity.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Corey Seger did his job, he hit the two run
home run and continues his great play. And now with Garcia,
I mean that's a tough one because I mean that
could be day to day, that's pain tolerance, that could
be one that all of a sudden, your just operation
shut down. So we have no knowledge at this point.
I haven't seen any updates as to how he's feeling,
(11:57):
what kind of care he's getting in the moment, but
it certainly the way the schedule is. I mean there's
no days off, right, you got to get right back
at it. So curiosity, I mean it would favor as
we've talked about with the series in general. Right, you
take the giant hitter that Garcia is out of the lineup,
and we've watched with the the Diamondbacks, one of their
(12:20):
hallmarks is they're able to generate runs, right getting active
on the bass paths. Of course, you got to get
on the base paths to do that, which they they
didn't do a very good job. After sures are left today,
all respect over the weekend, right game, we didn't get
to break down on air Merril Kelly with that monster
f like he gets a special prize just for going
(12:41):
seven innings. Again, I don't know what it is, like
a sandwich or something, but the fact that he was
a throwback to pitchers of yesteryear well seven inning outing,
but good for him, and.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Especially tonight where I say to myself, am I ever
gonna expect Max schurz Or to pitch more than three
innings in a game?
Speaker 5 (12:58):
Ever?
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Again?
Speaker 6 (12:59):
Right?
Speaker 1 (12:59):
I got to look, I told you when the Mets
signed it, right, because this plays into the World Series.
They signed him to do a three year contract. The
first year was going to be the best, the second
year was gonna be not as good as the first,
and the third year was going to be not as
good as the second. So it's kind of like the
Hunger Games movies, where the first one was the best,
the second one was almost as good as the first,
the third one was almost as good as a second. Right,
That's what Max Scherzer was because as it gets, as
(13:20):
he gets older, he was gonna have this brisk yest
year the first year. Then he's gonna be injury ineffective,
and that's exactly what happened this year. And at this point, now,
if he goes two innings, that's what I'm expecting. He
went three innings tonight, I'm like, Okay, he honestly went
longer than I expected. I said, how long until he
goes out tonight? I'm saying, bag, does he make it
two innings? Does he make it? Does he make it
open for three and three? Yeah? I mean that's really
I mean, it's it's that's where you're at now with
(13:42):
Max Scherzer, and now you're you're locked into him again
for next year, but right now you don't care because
you are two wins away from winning the World Series.
But that's Max.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
Yeah, Now it's just a question of what you can
cobble together. You know.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
Garcia's loss obviously huge on that end, but I mean
he only he's only gonna bat four times a game, right,
changes how you structure and ponder your pitching matchups and whatever.
I get that, But really it's coming down to bullpen
management as we go forward here for the Rangers, and
can you get efforts similar to what you had here?
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Right?
Speaker 3 (14:14):
You give up one run Chapman gives up one in
his inning that he worked today, but otherwise, you know,
you had to navigate through and they did a good
job with four pitchers, including Chapman after Sureser had to
leave the game. Can you count on that? You know,
some of it is gets into that matchup advantage and
where baseball is in twenty twenty three. Well, for Bruce
(14:36):
Bochi and company, the gut, the feel, the old school management.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Of a squad.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
We'll see what he's able to work into some magic here.
Can you get and coax a couple extra innings out
of your game?
Speaker 1 (14:47):
For starter? Because we're already talking about bullpen games in
the World Series. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
That that's ever gonna sit right with me psychologically, that
we're all.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Right, we're in the We're in for all the marbles.
Who's that game four start? A determined long reliever? It
gets the we got six guys, we got six guys
that we're gonna have door. Well that look, that's that's
the World Series has become. It's become a baseball war
of attrition. Who can who can survive the longest? Right
cause you can't. You can't put those starters out there anymore.
It's gonna be okay, Game one, You're gonna get to
(15:17):
the point where both Game ones of the World Series
are gonna be are gonna be bullpen game.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
I just sounds so old when I'm talking about it
that way, but it's it's reality. So like Merril Kelly
on on Saturday night, we were out at dinner and
we're watching watching the game, and they're like, you just
seem so fascinated with the guy, like he's working into
the sixth.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
This is a big deal.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
And like my brothers, you know, huge baseball fans, we
live and die, uh mostly die with the White Sox
year after here with their hundred losses at all. But
when you have quality starting pitching, because we just commemorated
right the anniversary of the run they had no five
where you had starting pitching, just dominate your bullpen. Yeah,
Bobby jank showed up or whatever. But for the most part,
you were getting eight innings out of those starters, and
(15:59):
there were multi It wasn't one guy doing it three
times like no run through the astros, like four.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
Guys giving you complete games.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
So watching now where it's like, is the guy get
even gonna get to the sixth. I don't know the
due up third in the inning is the guy he
would be facing for the third time.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
We can't let that happen. So good for you, Meryl Kelly,
You're still down to one.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
The flip side of Monday Night Football The Raiders, Oh boy,
fourth quarter of this game. Look, it was an awful
game for the Raiders, and it was I guess maybe
it's a game if you're gonna lose, it's a game
you want to have right before the deadline, because wows
it look like you guys, think no, if you're gonna fail,
fail spectacularly, lose to the Bears and get run over
(16:54):
by the Bears and then come back and put this
effort up on a Monday night. Davante Adams had one
catch going to the fourth quarter, Jacobe Meyers had none,
and in the fourth quarter, when it was still somewhat
of a game, the Lions were trying to protect a
two score lead. Jimmy Garoppolo, who got hit a lot
right got hit a lot in the pocket. He got
(17:15):
hit a lot twice. Had DeVante Adams wide open for
fifty plus yard touchdowns. He had him open for an
eighty yard touchdown and threw the ball out of bounds,
and then had him open for a sixty yard touchdown
and overthrew him. And the Lions wind up coming onto
the field to run the last series. The game is over.
(17:37):
DeVonta Adams comes off the field. He takes off his helmet,
he slams it to the ground. He sits down on
the bench. He turns around and says, unblanken, blankety blankety
blanking like. Nobody comes over to talk to him. No
one comes over to calm him down. He's blankety blankety like.
He is all spread out, like me in a movie
theater in the middle of the day. Hey, no one, sinaya,
I got my arms out over these chairs right here.
(17:59):
I got my feet over the seats in front of me.
He has spread out. No one is there, Joe Douglas
or anybody else in need of a receiver. Call the raiders.
Now call him now while they're all answering questions, and
you don't have to worry about them. Flying back to
Las Vegas, and they're unreachable because they're on a plane
for the next two hours. Call them now you can
(18:21):
get Davonte Adams. He will say, I want out. This
isn't working. Those two plays the frustration that you have
seen for him all season long. He has just not
been a part of this offense. And I'm not saying that, hey,
these two plays to night of the reason, but these
are the cherry on top of the Sunday for Davonte Adams.
It's just not worked. And he's talked about being unhappy
(18:42):
before all these lungs says I want to win. I
want to win. Whatever's frustration is. Anytime created his best friend.
Anytime a receiver says I just want to win, it's no,
you want the football. Let's just be on you want
the football, Yes, you want to win. Up Keyshawn's book
can be Doug. You want to win, but you also
want the football, and that's the most important. You gotta
get it because receivers are generally happy when they get
(19:02):
the football, winning or losing. But he's not getting the
football and the team is not winning. So if you
need a wide receiver, Davonte Adams is eminently available because
you know, if you're the Raiders, the season's done. Now,
you know you're not good. You're not even as good
as the Broncos, who finally won a decent game yesterday.
You know you're starting over at quarterback in the offseason.
(19:23):
You know you'd love to be out from under the
money you're giving Davonte Adams. So when someone calls or
I make phone calls, going, hey, second round, in the
fifth whatever, it's gonna be for Davonte Adams. And if
I'm the Jets, I make that call because they need
They don't need anything more than they need a quarterback,
but they do need anything more than another wide receiver.
We'll get to that. But if you are the Raider,
(19:44):
you are another team and you need a wide receiver.
He is a superstar. Call him to go get him,
but especially the Jets, not because I'm a Jet fan,
but because, well, you know who you had great success with,
and you know's gonna be the quarterback in a few
weeks when a superhuman recovery from Achilles comes out, Hey,
it's gonna be the old friend, Aaron Rodgers. Go get
Devonte Adams. Even if another team jumps in front of
(20:06):
the Jets. I won't be that upset, and I'll be
tredibly upset, but at least the right thing will have
been done. The Raiders need to start over, and Davont
Adams is not a big part of this team. He's
not happy. How do you go forward with unhappy players?
Get out from under the money you're paying him, because
it's not worth it. I know you get a lot
of draft capital to get it, but it happened some costs. Baby,
The money is more important. The money is more important
(20:27):
to move on from so you can attract people. And
like I said, next year again, you're starting over a quarterback.
You really think Davont Adams wants to show up? Hey,
I'm okay with starting over quarterback with Drake May. Yeah, sure,
come on it. Yeah, I'm okay. I'm thirty one years old.
I got nothing but time left. I can worry about
this guy. No, the Raiders, this should be the guy.
If there's anybody to be traded tomorrow, any star player,
(20:49):
the biggest thing to be traded tomorrow, it should be
DeVonta Adams. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
I want to know if he cracked that helmet in half,
how good is that seal up there? Boy, that was something.
But there's two plays that are being dissected quite a bit,
the would be misses from Jimmy Garoppolo. Obviously we saw
the one late that he laid it out and just
overshot it, and that's the one where Adams loses his
(21:13):
mind on the end of that play to the bench
and everything else. The other is from a ball that
Garoppolo throws from his own end zone about to get
drilled in the ribs, you know again, and so he
fires it down the sideline. Yes, Adams was open ball
sales harmlessly out of bounds, and folks are picking that
(21:35):
up as another big play and a big miss, like
that's a really hard throw.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
Nothing you don't want your quarterback to make it.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
And obviously the spotlight is on Adams because of the
fact that he has been disgruntled. What I really want
to know is more details. Tom Pellisero gave us the
gift yesterday while I was on air with Bucky Brooks
on Fox Football Sunday and the airing of the grievance
meeting that the Raiders had allegedly on Thursday where anybody,
(22:06):
anybody could get up and say what they needed to
and Adams was among the speakers pointed out him, Max Crosby,
Josh Jacobs, some of the veterans, and then a number
of other players allegedly spoke, Yeah, that's the thing to
bring the team together after humiliating like this is night
one the Bulls. Having a team meeting like this is
(22:27):
really gonna help. Josh McDaniel's the guy that you want
to go and say, you know what, everybody's now, just
say what you need to.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Let's get it out there. That's gonna help us going
into Detroit where they're frothing at the mouth at the
opportunity to host a Monday night football game. They're frothing
at the mouth to get the taste of that beatdown
that they absorbed from the Baltimore Ravens out of their mouth. Yeah, yeah,
that's what we want to do. Let's fire everybody up there,
(22:55):
because that's gonna be constructive and helpful to a warm,
concerted effort. Oh, by the way, Jimmy G's back. Jimmy's
gett a quarterback. He looks you know, he looks washed.
He looks washed. Whether it's a little bit of and
I understand if he has a little bit of anxiety
because he's getting hit a lot. But he looks like
he's not nearly the guy he even was in San Francisco, right,
(23:16):
at least you could count on him. He'd never like
to step into throws, but that arm was always, you know,
was always pretty accurate. You get that ball down the
field and it's just not there. Well, it's just not
clicking well.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
As you point out though, like a couple of the
throws that are being isolated as bad throws, Like he's
getting drilled right as he's trying to release the ball,
so you're just trying to get rid of it.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
He did have a.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
Number of places where like why why are you taking
a sack in this situation?
Speaker 1 (23:43):
Right, It's like Zach wils Watch Jack Wilson.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
It was like Zach Wilson taking that that sack on
fourth down with a minute thirty six left.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
I texted you immediately just went sorry, buddy, which I
would be much more upset about if the Jets didn't
come back to win.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
But they should have should have washed the game. But
you know which I should have could have. Hey, I
need surgery on this need it's debilitating. Let me go
out there for this game. Winning, can't can I let's go,
but yeah, just an abject failure. Seven targets for Adams
in this game, just the one reception for eleven yards
and for Garoppolo, look a lot of it was predicated.
(24:18):
Also on this team, you had the league's leading rusher
last year in Josh Jacobs, who up until tonight really
hadn't been able to fall forward with any regularity, getting
hit in the backfield and trying to make plays. Even
the start of this game was ugly, right Jacob, bah,
he's down, Like the play by play call was about
(24:38):
as short as you'll ever hear on a play. And
then he got a little bit of run. He finally
scored the touchdown run that got everybody excitable in fantasy
Land and certainly Raider fans a spark of life. But
there's been no semblance of balance for this offense either.
And when Hunter Renfro's.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Name got called tonight, like wow, there he is, Oh wait,
he slipped down. He couldn't catch the there's been well.
And that's the thing is that the Raiders have had
no plan there. You tell me, tell me, tell me
if you can, if you can identify, Hey, what's the
Raiders plan. They have no plan. No, they have no plan. Now,
people that I know that I that I trust, told
me their plan was supposed to be Tom Brady, that
(25:17):
Brady was their plan, and then when it didn't happen,
they didn't have a plan. So we're replacing Derek Carr
with Jimmy Garoppolo and thinking that's gonna work and we're
gonna There was no plan. This is just let's just
throw this team together and see what and see what
it is. And this is the way the Raiders do things.
This is you can't be surprised. This is just how
(25:39):
the Raiders do things. This is why the Raiders are
on my never again list and I never pick him
to do anything ever. But there was no plan. I
can't tell you what the Raiders plan is right now.
What's their identity? I don't know they have an idea?
Are they a run first team? Are they gonna be
a team that throws a football down the field defensively?
Is that gonna say? There's no plan. There's absolutely nothing
out there. Is their head coach gonna stay? I don't know,
(26:00):
maybe maybe not? Does he have power to stay? How
much longer is this contract? I mean, really, there is
absolutely no plan for the Raiders right now, and I
don't know that I can tell you it's gonna get
any better. But the one thing you can do is
let's start clearing the decks when we know that it's
over and the best that's why, the best thing you
can do tomorrow is while he's at a very high
(26:21):
point of value and you can get a lot for
him because a lot of people want receivers right now,
and you have the best one. You move Devonte Adams. Right,
I tried to move anybody that's making a lot of
money for the Raiders this year because you know, again
in the off season, it's gonna be a new quarterback,
it's gonna be a new everything, sure, and so why not,
right hey, teams want running backs, right, Josh Jacobs, let's
do that too, Right, This is where it should be
(26:43):
not quite a blood letting, but it should just be
a you know what, this is time to move on.
We're time to move on from the high these high
salary players. We know it's not working. We know everything's
gonna be new next year, and this is the direction
of the franchise. That's what the Raiders need to do.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
You don't have to absorb a bunch of cost if
you bring in Acobs either, right, just sign the one
year deal for ten million bucks. Ye onward upward from there, Devanta,
I'd start every call with the Raiders, though.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
Are you too tired of this blank and blank? Well,
let me help you with that situation. Let trade Hunter Renfro,
let him go. You just have to let him go.
There's no value. It's like we were talking about with
Tannehill like that. The it's the bucket a ball. But
if you get a let's say, Hunter Renfo, you get
(27:28):
a sixth round pick. Okay, So would that look Clayton
Draft say hey, you know what, we want to move
up in the fourth round. We're gonna give you a
fifth rounder and two sixths. A team would say, okay,
we'll do that, and you get to move up and
take a guy you like in the fourth round. The
more assets you can get, the better you can That's
what it's all about.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
Now.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
It's not about because jos Josh Jacobs. You could say,
all right, we're gonna ride him the rest of the season,
But is he better off doing that? Are you better
off trading him for an asset that you can get
for the rest of the I'm fully agreeing him. I'm
saying Saturday you ain't get. But if you get a
sixth round, a six round pick, I'd rather have the
six round pick right now. From what Hunter Renfro has
(28:04):
looked like teams, there's some teams out there that are
going to say, we need another wide receivertion We think
he could be a as a sit down, move the
chains receiver like that seemed to be what his what
his role was, right like all those guys in New
England and Denver of years past, Indianapolis guy's not named
(28:24):
Wayne or Harrison that you had those guys that helped
move the chains. He could be that guy. I think
if he's healthy tonight. He didn't do himself any favors
with what he put on tape. On a couple of
times they did try to look in his direction and
he slipped down.
Speaker 6 (28:41):
Joe Douglas, call the raiders. Call the raiders now, call
them now before they get in the air, and the
pilot says, thanks a lot for coming in. We're flying
back to Las Vegas.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
Arni Rubbele. Now, flight time out of Detroit is two
hours and twenty four minutes. Our in flight movie will
be top Gun Maverick, and if you like, we have
a replay of the Jets Giants game from a day
ago for you to watch, because I know you probably
don't want to watch a replay of what you guys
just had said back Relax will be taking off shortly.
Thank you. Fight attendants prepare for takeoff.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven

Speaker 1 (29:27):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 7 (29:28):
We never have enough time to get to everything we
want to get.
Speaker 5 (29:30):
To and that's why we have a brand new podcast
called over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for. Yeah, you blubber lit lame and me.
Speaker 7 (29:45):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 5 (29:49):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough to time, it
will continue on our after show called over Promised.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
Well, if you don't get enough.
Speaker 7 (30:04):
Covino and Rich, make sure you check out over Promised
and also Uncensored, by the way, so maybe we'll go
at it even a little harder. It's gonna be the
best after show podcast of all time.
Speaker 5 (30:13):
There you go, over Promising. Remember you could see on YouTube,
but definitely join us. Listen to over Promised with Cavino
and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
Joining us down the hotline for more on everything we
saw in the NFL this week and nobody better as
we get close to the trade deadline. Longtime NFL Inside,
or check them out on Odyssey, Washington Post one O
five to seven The Fan in Baltimore. It's Jason locking
for it.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
Jay.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
What's happening, buddy?
Speaker 4 (30:41):
What's going on? Gentlemen?
Speaker 1 (30:43):
Well, so I'm all trying to figure out who the
best guy the Jets can get into trade, who the
Vikings can get in the trade. Now suddenly this trade deadline,
Jay is really interesting all of a sudden.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
Yeah. Obviously it's been kind of ramping up incrementally from
year to year, and last year it it kind of hit, which,
you know, an unprecedented level what we thought was a
fever pitch. And look, as far as I'm concerned, there's
already been basically two or three trades. You obviously had
the one today. That's significant, right, I mean I think
you go back to New England acquiring J C. Jackson
(31:15):
a few weeks before the deadline, right, I mean that's
kind of where it started. And we've seen you know,
lesser stuff, Nicole Hardman, a few things kicking around. Obviously,
the Seahawks made a significant move today. The Eagles made
a significant move last week to add Buyered. So I
mean those are those I mean, for me, those are
deadline moves. And yeah, I think you know, we'll still
(31:38):
see a fair amount of activity tomorrow. How many blockbusters
are there? You know, history would say not as many
as you hope for. But I am optimistic that teams
are going to look at this landscape and say, my god,
who are the like, Who's a super team, Who's a
great team? You know, why not us? And if the
(31:59):
old school New York football giants are willing to eat
that much salary right to facilitate the acquisition of draft picks,
then who, like, there can't be any other fuddy duddies
like you know what I mean, If that's what they're
willing to do, who could say that's you know, beneath
me or I'm above that? Like, No, that's that's modern
(32:21):
you know, that's modern team building and that's reality. And
there are some teams that are certainly not going to
contend for a super Bowl this year, and who know
they are far away from contending for a super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
All right, So if I said to you, if I said,
all right, I got money to go to Vegas and
you gave me the biggest name, you wouldn't be surprised
to see move tomorrow. Who would you give me biggest name?
You wouldn't be surprised as he get traded by the deadline.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
I mean nothing, nothing would really shock me at this point.
I mean, I know there's all these people who can't
wait to tell you how much Derek Henry can't be traded,
But then there's always a caveat of that you know
then there's always well that's the latest thing somebody whispered
to me right now. But obviously the deadline is not
until four o'clock Tuesday. Like everybody has a price, you know, saquon.
(33:10):
If the giants did that, if they just like, how
was what they did today? How would that be any
different than trading Darren Waller, It's essentially the same thing.
Exce if you're not eating the money to facilitate the trade.
Now you already ate the money. You ate the money
when you gave them all that money up front, right,
you gave him all that money up front, and now
the base salary is nothing. Okay, well why wouldn't he
(33:33):
be Now he got hurt yesterday, so that that might
complicate things. I don't think it's a super you know,
long term hamstring thing, but like why, I mean people
are thinking that way. That's not I mean when I
talk to gms and stuff about ideas like that, they
don't think it's crazy or outside the box. Especially when
you have someone who's carrying that small of a salary.
(33:54):
So yeah, I expect, Look, those conversations are taking place,
and what gets consummated. Obviously the deadline spurs action. I mean,
right now, teams are holding out in many cases for
much more than what people think, you know, they're going
to get. And we'll see in the end how willing
(34:14):
some of these owners are to eat salary or how
eager some of these owners are to dump salary. And
that's ultimately you know, a lot of times, what's the
difference between I'll talk and no action and something getting consummated.
But I mean, throw a name at me, like, well,
I don't. I don't think anything's out of the rum
of possibility.
Speaker 1 (34:32):
Quarterbacks, Like could you see the vikings in a quarterback,
whether it's Matt Jones or Ryan Tannehill or somebody like that.
Speaker 4 (34:38):
Well, I mean it's hard, you know, it's hard to
make those moves in the middle of the season. And
even when Garoppolo got traded, it took him about a
month before he played. But like I mean, just obbs,
you know what I mean, Like even before even if
you wouldn't, they got bench. Like, he's played pretty decent
football this season. He's better than what some teams have.
(34:58):
Tannehill has been available since this, you know, since before
the season. Now, they've got to be realistic about what
you're going to get for him under these circumstances. But no,
that I mean, and he's obviously banged up as well.
But no, I don't that it wouldn't surprise me. Again,
there's got to be sort of a scheme fit, right,
There's probably got to be some familiarity with a coach
(35:19):
on that staff or had played there before to try
to expedite this thing in time. But yeah, I mean,
DeAndre Hopkins, like the Titans are going to make more moves.
There's no doubt in my mind. There might be too
sent up, too much sentimentality, ultimately a tie to Derrick
Henry and then wanting you know, a second and something
else which is just not gonna happen. But like Dniko Autry,
(35:41):
I think is as good as gone. I think they'd
love for somebody to take Harold Landry salary off their hands.
I just don't know that that team exists. But yeah,
Ryan Tanneho wouldn't be out of the question whatsoever.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
The Heineke tune, maybe Dyler Murray. Well, I'm just saying,
like the fact that he's now up for potentially starting
didn't think we'd get to this point. I really thought
it would end up being Dobbs Dune and whoever. But
potentially Kyler Murray back for the Cardinals. When a top
(36:14):
draft pick just looks so pretty.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
Out there, Well, look, I don't I don't think they're
going to set the light on you know, the world
on fire with Kyler Murray. I don't think there's so
much worried about that. As he gets hurt, now you
know what I mean, he's going for off season surgery
and more guarant injury guarantees kick in and he becomes
untradable in the offseason. I think it's much more about
that than them think. I mean that thing, that thing's
(36:37):
not built to win, and he's he's not. I mean,
let's let's let's not lose sight of just how pathetic
he was. Then we can blame a lot of it
on Kingsbury, I guess if we want to. But this
guy hasn't inspired a whole lot. And it was absolutely
that leaked crazy that they gave him that contract when
they did it, and it didn't take him very long
to regret it.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Jenny, I want to take you back. I'm going to
test your here. I want to go all the way back.
I want to go all the way back three weeks
ago when brock Party was the MVP of the NFL.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
No, well, you know life comes out too fast? Is it?
Speaker 6 (37:11):
Just?
Speaker 1 (37:11):
Teams are making him do more and we're seeing his
limitations because all of a sudden, the forty nine ers
went from I don't know who beats them to now
they've lost three in a row.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
Well, I'm I mean, I'm not shocked. And this idea
that like, well, they just can't lose three games, Like, well,
why can't they lose three games? Like why can't Kalsha
lose three games? Why can't anybody in this league lose
three straight games, especially when you're without the key components
that they have, And like, no one's really talking about
(37:41):
Trent Williams. He's the one who makes the whole thing.
Go think about what that thing looked like before they
went and got him and gave him all that money
and prayed that he'd stay healthy more likely and more
often than not, which had not been the case with
him for the last what three years at least that
he was in Washington. And if you look at their
DVA an EPA, it's one thing with him, and then
(38:02):
the debo thing, which is a positionless guy who's you know,
super hard to defend and complicates things. And you take
the two of them out, and the running back is
sort of hobbled, right, and he's not as explosive. He
may still scores two touchdowns every week, which is nuts,
but like that's not the same. And they weren't in
a big downfield passing team to begin with. Like it
(38:22):
is what it is. Brock pras, Brock Praisey's not going
to beat you with uber athleticism. He's not going to
beat you with the biggest arm in the world. He
like he was a function of something that they had
built and he came in and the bar couldn't be
any lower, right, I mean literally, it's like, let's find
somebody with a heartbeat, he's been in the system, who
hopefully can stay healthy for more than like, you know,
(38:43):
a quarter. And he did that, and then he completed
some forward passes and it was like the greatest thing ever.
And then he's in the offseason program and he's the
number one, and you know, he's got good coaches and
a great team around him, and it looks the part
I mean, but the defense, all the defense ain't the
same thing either. The whole thing was kind of predicated
on them rolling up thirty some points a game, right,
(39:04):
thirty three, and they hadn't lost at home in a year,
and they hadn't lost the regular season games since McCaffrey
got there, Like, was all that going to continue? No?
So then what's it going to look like when the
cast around him isn't special? Well, he don't want some
special either. I mean that's not really a huge knock
on him. How many games has he started, right, I
(39:24):
Mean he's basically one year into this, and i'mike, some
guys he can't default to just make something spectacular happen
outside the pocket when everything breaks down, like go off
script and win third and nine by yourself, Like, dude,
those guys aren't available, you know, at the mister irrelevant spot.
So you know, I think he's he's got his limitations
(39:47):
and they've got their warts and everything's been exposed. And
can they get healthy and be much better down the stretch? Yeah?
But boy boy, you better hope the left had if
the offensive line isn't s forget about it.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
Last one for you real quick, Jason.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
The Steelers, amongst other teams, you usually it was fans
local radio hosts, and well that'sbloviating on national networks complaining
about referees.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
Now we've got teams doing a Steelers going on down
the line.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
But day Johnson, he's on fire.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
Yeah exactly. But like the number of times I'm watching
games and we see flags throwing it and then we're
seeing them picked up. I think there's an inordinate number
of those happening in twenty twenty three. Did you really
see it? Nah? Maybe not?
Speaker 3 (40:34):
All right, I'll pick it up last night watching Look
the Bears got drummed. But watch that game, officials reaching
for the flag, double clutch. Nah, I'm not gonna throw
it like you saw something.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
You picked that one up?
Speaker 4 (40:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (40:45):
Are we doing with that?
Speaker 4 (40:47):
Yeah? It seems to be much more of an epidemic
than in years past. It is definitely, uh, a little
bit baffling. I don't know, you know, if it's the
eye of the skin, you know what I mean, Because
they've got the like I mean, I know, there's things
that are supposed to and not supposed to do, but
you know, they've got ways to convey things to these guys,
(41:09):
and you know, some of these balls being respotted and whatever.
I wonder if some of that's coming from New York.
But yes, it used to be you'd see them pick
up a flag and be like, man, I haven't seen
them do that a while. And now it's like, oh,
I haven't seen them do that since the one o'clock window.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
Like he's on Twitter at Jason locking for that is
at Jason locking for Honesty, Washington Post. Jay as always, buddy,
appreciate it. Man, we'll talk to you next week. Have fun.
You got it, gentlemen here Jason. Great great stuff from
Jason lock and for.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (41:51):
Big stuff out of the NFL. We have trade deadline tomorrow.
Everybody's wondering what's gonna happen. Jason locking Forth says, nothing
would surprise me. Nothing would surprise me. Okay. The thing
that needs to happen tomorrow is that we need to
see big wide receivers and big quarterbacks move. And I
mean I don't mean like, hey, you're gonna see two
(42:12):
I get traded. But the Vikings absolutely have to go
get a quarterback. They have nobody behind Kirk Cousins. Fran
Tarkenton is about to come out and throw the football
and they're starting to win again. And now with Kirk
Cousins out for the year with the torn achilles, his
career is over with the vin Minnesota Vikings. Right, he's
a thirty five year old quarterback, gonna be thirty six
coming back from the torn achilles. They're gonna move on.
(42:34):
You're four and four. Your division stinks, all right, Your
division is not great. I mean, the Lions are the
best team and we're seeing tonight they're one of the
best teams in the NFL. I told you Lion's going
to the Super It's still struggling at times with the
Lowly Raiders, who while I say lowly Raiders, should they
be able to come back and win this game, they
would go to five hundred. That's how strange the NFL is.
(42:57):
Should there's still a little bit of Lions left in
the Lions and still a little bit still there again
until the clocks strike zero. You believe bad things can happen,
I get it, But you can't punt on it. You
can't punt on the season. You have to go get
somebody because you don't have anybody behind Kirk Cousins and
the guys that should be traded. All right, I'll tell
you these quarterbacks should be moved no matter what tomorrow.
(43:17):
Tell you three guys that should be dealt under three
g Three guys absolutely, one hundred percent. Ryan Tannehill should
be about. His injury is not that big a deal.
And at this point you had will Levis throw for
four touchdowns. You still have Malik Willis so you took
in the first round last year. These guys need to
see the field, right. You don't need Ryan Tannehill. He
should absolutely get traded. Mac Jones should get traded. You
(43:39):
know he's not the future in New England. You may
as well tank. At this point it's over. Maybe Malie
Cunningham goes from I'm on the team. I'm not on
the team. I got a three year contract. I'm waived.
But something has to happen. It's clearly not mac Jones.
He needs to go and the other one a backup.
That's kind of interesting, but you can do it because
you have you have three guys there. Davis Mills should
(44:00):
be dealt to a team. Then needing a quarterback because
you got CJ. Stroud, you have case Keenham as well.
Maybe the Vikings would want case keenan back that magically
year they had with the Minneapolis Miracle. But those are
three quarterbacks should be traded no matter what. Tannehill, Mac Jones,
Davis Mills, those guys should get dealt. There should be
big wide receivers available, but there should be quarterbacks dealt.
The Vikings should get one of them. The Jets should
(44:21):
get one of them because as much as you like
Zack Wilson, Zach Wilson, oh my goodness, Zach Wilson was awful,
Zack Wilson was terrible. The Jets should go get one
of these guys because you need somebody until eight comes
back at the end of the year, because eight's coming back,
but you need somebody because you don't want to give
it away because suddenly Zach Wilson, boy, he can't have
another Houdini escape like he had yesterday. So there's teams
that should be going to get quarterback. Jets and the
(44:43):
Vikings and the Steelers should go get a quarterback too,
because with Kenny Pickett hurt and not playing well, you
don't want to give the season away. You're still playing, well,
you're five hundred, you're still all right. Go get somebody
because if Kenny Pickett stinks or is hurt, you want
somebody else. And I'm sorry, buddy, but went right patch.
Sorry he was not good, Buddy, he was not good.
(45:04):
You gotta do something. Those guys got to get quarterbacks.
Those are quarterbacks should be available.
Speaker 3 (45:08):
Maybe maybe folks will realize that the hope defense of
the Jaguars isn't as bad as some would have made
it out to be. Uh and blame Canada and fire
Canada is a resounding chant at every Pittsburgh establishment for
a reason. Another name that's been interesting bandied about, and
our guy Frostburg sent us the photoshop worked out photo
(45:31):
of him of Jamis Winston, who's sitting there, you know,
as part of the Saints of wondering if did they
trust Taysom Hill right, he's been a night great option yesterday?
Did his work as a tight end. You win this game,
Derek Carr, whatever they had to do and break brand
and everybody hugged each other or whatever that they got
(45:54):
right and made some plays downfield. But another name, just
to kind of toss it out there, Mills, a guy
who's in man's land, has played some NFL.
Speaker 1 (46:03):
And has played well, yeah again. You know, at some
point the Texans will cobble together a group of five
guys that can keep someone upright, which is a challenge
for many NFL teams. Right here.
Speaker 3 (46:16):
For your Jets, you need a receiver, I think more
than a quarterback, and you got Garrett Wilson and a
whole lot else everybody else. So if you can go
find someone else that's in the marketplace, and maybe yesterday's
results help teams pause and maybe recognize and admit a
little more where they are in the pecking order, because
(46:38):
coming into this week, there were very few teams that
you'd say they have no chance in hell, like even
the Bears before the game against the Charger, like, if
stupid things happen, you're looking at a stretch where you're
gonna play the Chargers, followed by the Saints, followed by
the Panthers. All of a sudden, you could potentially be five,
five and five. Now they went out and got absolutely
drummed and shown for the frauds they were as a
(47:00):
coaching staff and obviously everybody that was thinking Bagent was
going to be a hero. Maybe you get right and
get fixed there and maybe just pause before you say
hot take nonsense. But tomorrow is going to be interesting
till four pm. I would expect to see a lot
of pieces moved. The hard part is again the offensive
line that's on the wish list of everybody. You really
(47:22):
got to come up with a giant bounty if you're
gonna move somebody tough.
