You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Well, it's funny whoever
that was doing that open there. I forgot to mention.
Kate Bush is here too, Guys.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Kate Bush are all assembled of the rock and roll
Hall of just okay, because the at the end of
the Hall of Fame. If the Pro Football Hall of
Fame is the Hall of very good, then Kate Bush
the rock and roll Hall of Fame.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Is now the rock and roll Hall of average. I mean, really,
she's only in because Stranger Things featured.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
In a year ago.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
You got in. Why he got in? Doesn't get in
Hall of average. Man.
Speaker 5 (01:01):
Even if you become world famous for a butt fumble,
you're still world famous. Does Mark Sanchez get in the
Hall of Fame for butt fumbles? I think they might
have asked for that jersey at some point is is.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Hey, can we get that jersey that you are for
the butt fumble man? That would be really cool.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
I really like to see that his pants are in
the hall. Jason, you know we've got Wade Bogg's pants.
What were you saying? Justin I'm sorry, I said, Jason,
you know what doesn't matter? What's that your opinion on this? Wow,
he's a Hall of Famer man. You can't ever take
it away. Yes, Kate, but Kate Bush and rock and
(01:40):
roll Hall of Famer. There you go. Sure, sure, rock
and can print that. You see the way he introduced
and finally he's embracing it. Rock and roll Hall of Average.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
There you go there, rock and roll Hall of Average,
Hall of Average, Hall of just okay, all of I'm
in because a TV show used my song.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
There you go. That's that's what it is. Oh whoa wait,
we forgot about her.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Let's put her in the Hall of Fame because you know,
stranger things use your song and that's a popular show.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
She should be a Hall of you. You're a Mets fan,
what would you know about a Hall of fame.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
We have players in the Hall of Fame. Stop with that.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
We got a you know, all this is gonna do
Frostburg because this is just pumping up the Jets to
put more points on you guys on Monday night. Maybe
it's gonna be like forty eight to ten instead of
thirty seven ten.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
The wow.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Maybe Rogers comes back Monday night, you know maybe so
he just walks out there going yeah, no, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
I'm good.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
I could throw the ball, Yeah, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
I'm good.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
I can do whatever you need.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
I'm all good.
Speaker 1 (02:38):

Speaker 4 (02:49):

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Well, we're gonna give you our big pick for Tomorrow's Breeders'
Cup Classic. Coming up in a couple of minutes. Mike
and I spent the day out there today doing a podcast.
It was a lot of fun. But there's a couple
of really big baseball stories in the next couple of minutes,
and the first one headlined by Clayton Kershaw, who now
potentially could be back for the Dodgers next summer. He
(03:15):
puts a post out on social media saying, hey, by
the way, hey everybody head shoulder surgery and it went
well and I'm expecting hoping to be back sometime next summer.
Thanks for your wishes, We'll see you then, wait, what
were you talking about? This just oh, by the way,
gets out there today that Clayton Kershaw, thirty six, who
knows what he has left, may not pitch again or
(03:37):
will hopefully pitch again next summer after undergoing shoulder surgery. Now,
he did have doctor Neil Elatrosh, who was the goat
of surgeon, the one that put Aaron Rodgers a new
name on the board.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Yeah, put his.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Achilles back together, right, he's a goat of surgeons. But
now no Kershaw for the Dodgers for at least until
next summer, and who knows when he really comes back
to pitch. This is just gonna allow us to double down.
We talked about last night with the Dodgers signing Max
Munsey right to that two year extension for twelve million
(04:10):
dollars a year, which was ridiculous, and the MLBPA has
got to be really pissed about that, especially in wake
of Cody Bellinger, who had a season very similar to
Max Munsey, and he opted out of his twenty five
million dollar option just for next year. So Cody Bellinger
is gonna get more than twenty five million dollars a
year for multiple years. But Max Munsey stays a Dodger
(04:31):
for two more years at twelve million dollars each year. Yeah,
a great signing by the Dodgers. Again, MLBPA not gonna
be happy with a thirty five and one hundred guy
saying yeah, yeah, twelve million year is fine. But with
the money they're saving, you know they're gonna go spending big.
And we said it last night. Yes, Sho heeo Tani
is the crown jewel of free agency. But he's the
(04:53):
crown jewel because of what he does on the mound.
And you don't know when he's going to pitch again
and what kind of pitchure he's going to to be
when he does come back. Maybe he starts, maybe he doesn't.
Maybe he's a closer, maybe he's not. But he's not
gonna pitch it all next year. And the Dodgers, what
do you need more than anything else? Starting pitching. The
only guy you're able to count on for next year
(05:13):
was Clayton Kershaw. Everybody else is either not gonna be
on the team or not good enough. You need a
fe'ar the Dodgers to take that money you were gonna
spend on Otani and go buy three starting pitchers, three
good ones that are gonna eat innings. Whether it's Aaron
Nola or Montgomery, you gotta go get three guys because
you have nobody now.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
You want to get back to the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
I get that.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman didn't hit. It happens, but
you need some kind of pitching in the playoffs to
get there. And this is the worst the Dodgers started
pitching has been in a situation has been in in
well over a decade. That's what you have to go fix.
Otani is great, it'd be awesome, but if you really
want to win, you gotta go fix the starting pitching
and go get them.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Yeah, it's the curiosity.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
Right as we start seeing contracts and options denied team
options players, everybody just going nah, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
Wade Miley has now declined his player options, so he's
out there he's got a three two six era in
his last what sixty starts or something. So there's another
name you can go after, you know, replace one crafty
thirty seven year old South Paul with another.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
How about that? So yeah, I got an equal swap
for you.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Then, yeah, and then go get Rich hill back. He's
forty eight years old, and did he did? Okay, when
the Dodge, it's go go get rich.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Hilly nut Hey, let's get a little crazy, Let's get nuts. No,
that's the hard part with this man.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
That's even okay getting Blake's now if you only give
him a one year deal, because he's only good when
he's got a contract. Comings So yeah, I'll give you
twenty five million dollars for one year, and.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
I'm gonna get a great year out of you Blake's now.
I'm happy with that.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (06:43):
But here's the biggest problem you're having, And try and
just do the math. It's fuzzy math. There's only like
ten starting pitchers that you want to walk across the
street to go talk to him, and you're trying to
put three of them on the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
He has what everybody else need him too.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Yeah, but don't you want to go there, everything being equal,
if everybody's got the money to spend, Dodgers had the
money to spend, they didn't spend it last year. Isn't
that where you want to go?
Speaker 5 (07:07):
Don't you get into the negotiations and when they lowball
you go, so charity Earmark for Otani.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Tell you.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
So, yeah, double down on the Dodgers and Kershaw to
go get starting pitching meanwhile, really quick, this story is
just really crazy. Dusty Baker talked today did an interview
about why he retired from managing look after this year.
He said he was done. He won the World Series
with the Astros finally, and he did an interview on
a podcast and he said that he retired because of
(07:39):
bloggers and Twitter, because he wasn't happy. He didn't like
the fact that that he would go out and manage
and have to answer questions and have bloggers and thirty
year old guys asking him questions about his decisions. And
he said, I told my wife, if managing was just
going to the ballpark and doing stuff and not having
to talk to the media before or after the game
(08:00):
or deal with with these questions, he could imagine another
four or five years. But because of this, he felt
the need to retire. And you know what, if you
ever wondered if that's not the right decision, if you're
sitting here and you're Dusty Baker and you say the
bloggers and and the and the people on Twitter have
have gotten me pushed out, and then you're right to retire.
It's straight up of this addresses this is the time
(08:22):
to walk away if you if you really are upset
because of the bloggers and people on Twitter and social media,
then it's time that you have picked the right time
to walk away.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
And yes, if this gets you.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Upset, then you should absolutely walk away.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
I see him on the message boards. They're calling for you. Wow,
that's that is one of the greatest admissions of all
time right now.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
I mean, it's sad.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
It's sad that Dusty's saying, oh, I can't deal with
people questioning me on social media.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Well, part of it was.
Speaker 5 (08:50):
Just in general that every day because once upon a
time you didn't have to do these press conferences every day. No,
that to this level right to where you might have
one or two beat riders that you talk to are
depending on the city, maybe maybe there's a little cluster,
but now you got lights and you know, camera action
after every game. Yes, let's go through the minushi of
(09:14):
game one twenty one. Let's do this. Yes, let's let's go.
And then by the time you get to the playoffs,
it's magnified. You've already done it one hundred and eighty times.
I won't do this anymore. I think that's where Dusty
Baker is with the madness of it all at this point.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon Live from the
tire Rack dot Com Studios, we're in the final stretch.
You got tickets to horse Racing's biggest moment of the year,
World's best headed to sant Anita for the Breeders' Cup
World Championships today and tomorrow, November three.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
Mike and I were out there today.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
The fourth tomorrow countdown is on Get tickets today at
Breeders Cup dot Com. Had a great time out there
today doing a podcast recorder with Peter Thomas Fornatal, one
of the best analysts the horse racing gave us his
picks for the Breeders Cup. Bo Derek was there looking
for Bo. Did not see Bo Derek, Well, we didn't.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
We didn't go too deep into the bougie areas of stuff.
We were also kind of warned that, uh, they might
throw us out.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
I blame you.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Wait a minute, No, I didn't mean to get Okay, okay, okay, okay,
they might have thrown us out, Yes, okay, they might.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
We might have gotten in some trouble there. You know,
there was a horse that had met in its name.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
Today be sure to catch live editions of The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern
seven pm Pacific.
Speaker 5 (10:33):
So our guy Rich Davis just very excited. He goes,
I had to bet it. He's like, oh you lost
did the news?
Speaker 2 (10:42):
Did you? Did you?
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Did someone try to trade the horse midway through the
race to try to get money back?
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Is that what happened?
Speaker 2 (10:49):
No, he was.
Speaker 5 (10:49):
He was so excited that there was just there was
a horse that had.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Met in the name. He was like, this is the greatest,
Like I don't know how great that is. It was no.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
Mets out of Ireland. Oh okay, that's how the Brankman
family racing.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
I think the translation is don't pick the mets that
I think that's what that is.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
That's a life lesson.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
But Mike and I gonna give you our pick for
tomorrow's Breeders Cup Classic right now, the big race. And
thanks to Peter Thomas for Natal and Todd Shrup who
joined us last night on the show to talk about
their thoughts for the for the race. And both of
them really like White A Barrio and it gave us
a lot of reasons why they like White A Barrio.
But you know, maybe it's because of the theme of
(11:35):
the night tonight. But I'm not gonna overthink it, Okay,
I mean I'm not gonna overthink it.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
Arabian Night's the best horse.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
Yes, starting from the twelve spot is not great, right,
but still three to one. Bobby Baffort's horses won a lot.
I'm not gonna overthink it. I get that, you know,
you're looking for different ways to go through and both
Todd and Peter said, hey, listen, this is the best horse,
but looking at everything else going into it.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
That's why they like a couple of others. But I'm
not gonna overthink it.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
I mean, I'm gonna go against I'm gonna go against
the advice that we got from horse racing professionals, and
I'm just gonna I'm gonna take the best horse.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
I'm gonna take Arabian Night to win.
Speaker 5 (12:11):
Well, I'm gonna take you all the way through. I'm
going further outside. I'm going to Proxy at twelve to one.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
I thought we're gonna go to Clapton. I thought that
was gonna be your one.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
You really thought, And now I saw him once it
was okay, TJ.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
Maybe Clapton will change the world with a win in
the Classic tomorrow, or maybe he'll be wonderful tonight.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
TJ.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Uh Proxy J firs certainly would Clapton would be the
cream of the crop if he wins.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Oh, DJ, Frostburg, you got one. You want to chime in.
Speaker 6 (12:47):
I'm gonna go for the met guy to go last.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Yeah, he's not in this race. He was in the Juveniles, TJ.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Before you accuse me of anything, I'm picking Clapton to
the race to borrow.
Speaker 5 (13:00):
All right, So I'm gonna take Proxy twelve to one,
shot two million career earnings. Rosario the rider first or
second four of his six races this year. The horse
from Japan. I think Ushba Tesoro is interesting here. Another
four to one horse, Arabian Night, has to be in
the mix. If you're doing exotics, I'll take Proxy to win,
(13:21):
but then give me those other three, including white a
barrio as we start pulling together our trifectas and EXACTA boxes.
So the cut, well, there's plenty of those.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Yeah, thirty to one. I like it. He dies, TJ.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Here comes Clapton out of the white room and into
the paddock to get ready to go.
Speaker 6 (13:46):
TJ.
Speaker 5 (13:49):
Yeah, it took a while, but you finally got there,
warmed up. I man, during that podcast, we ran a
lot of lines with Peter and he was game for
it all. I mean, look, I got to start and
here's a teaser for the podcast for everybody interested in
that downloaded Fox Sports Radio wherever he gets podcasts.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
I mean, I asked him about jet lag and horses.
Speaker 5 (14:11):
I mean, come on, and that's the next level thinking
of how you get to evaluate horse racing with so
many international entries here and DJ.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Clapton don't lie, he don't lie, he don't lie.
Speaker 5 (14:27):
I was gonna say I could tell some stories. I mean,
there's some some ties to all that when you get
into the larger horse racing fields and hooves move so
fast that they look like they're going slow.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
What if Clapton wins?
Speaker 4 (14:46):
Now suddenly, what if Clapton wins?
Speaker 5 (14:48):
Well, you know what, for the show, I'll put a
couple bucks down on clap Uh.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
So there you go.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
There's our pick for the Breeders Cup Classic Tomorrow. I
enjoy all of the pageantry from Santa Nita again. World's
Best headed to Sanity to for the Breeders Cup World Championships.
It was a great day today, You're gonna be another
great day tomorrow. Get tickets at Breeders Cup dot com.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 6 (15:17):
Wow wow wow wow Wow.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Hall of Famers Wow.
Speaker 6 (15:21):
Rage against the Machine Wow Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
I'm not a big rage against the Machine fan, but
they were bigger the Nabers.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
I'm okay with that though. They were a big enough band.
You hate Kate Bush wow wow.
Speaker 6 (15:33):
Wow wow wow wow Yeah, I'm.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
Okay with that.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
And Grand Funk Railroad.
Speaker 6 (15:37):
Wow wowch wow wowch wow wowch wow wowch wow wow.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
You know, I like this song. I would put him
in just for this song.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
I like this song.
Speaker 6 (15:49):
Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon,
live from the tire rag dot com Studios.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
We just gave you our picture the Breeders Cup tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
What about the big dang college football and the NFL
on Sunday? Joining us Now I'm the hotline. Nobody better
our men in Vegas. Former odds maker at Caesars. Check
him out the Bet the Board podcast. See him on CBS.
He's on Twitter at Todd Furman. It is Todd Furman.
What's happening, buddy?
Speaker 7 (16:21):
Not a whole heck of a lot, gentlemen. One more
game and one more week that Syracuse keeps themselves further
and further away of getting Bawl eligible.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
We're tanking for Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
It's fine.
Speaker 7 (16:31):
I mean, it's a brilliant strategy. When you get a
chance of fire Dino going throughout the JMA Dome or
carry it Doome, whatever the heck we're calling it these days,
you can understand what's going on when a quarterback completes
seven passes to players wearing his color jerseys and for
the players wearing the white sweaters.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
Tonight, Yeah, he threw for thirty seven yards in four quarters.
Of a game.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
Yeah, Rich, you know, if.
Speaker 7 (16:50):
You think about it from a mathematical standpoint, that's about
fifteen x what Tommy DeVito threw for the former Syracuse
quarterback in his NFL debut last weekend against that Green
mean machine defense.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Yeah. But who won that game, Todd? We won.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
It's okay.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
There's no style points in the NFL. Man, there's two columns.
There is a win column, there is a lost column.
We got win column.
Speaker 7 (17:10):
I mean, look, Smith, I live in a Steelers household.
I know a thing or two about wins and loss
is over style points because I have to get exposed
to watching the Black and Gold every Sunday. Thankfully, it'll
be a little bit more peaceful this weekend. And we
got the angst and anger out of the system last
night against the Titans.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
See.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
But that's the thing, Todd, is that with Jets fan like,
we don't care we win, We don't care. Steelers fans
care immensely. They can't just win. It's boy, but we
didn't look good winning, and there's problem, and there's all
this time they care so much about they gotta win
a certain way. Like That's where I think you have
a little bit more. You have a little bit tougher
than I do.
Speaker 7 (17:43):
Yeah, I'm not even sure about that. I think the
Steelers fans realize their team is absolutely horrific and it's
like a car wreck that they can't look away from.
You guys just know, Hey, look, we expect the worst
to happen year in year.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Route.
Speaker 7 (17:55):
If we get to nine wins by hooker, by crook,
we'll call it a success. Meanwhile, the Steelers are stuck
in an purgatory. The Jets just have a lifetime of
living with Zach Wilson, which may or may not pay
dividends over the next three to five years.
Speaker 5 (18:07):
Lifetime with Zach all Right. College Football Slate tomorrow. Obviously
a lot of excitement over the fact that we've got
a game with the total in the mid seventies, Todd
when we start looking at Washington and USC, flip a
coin to see who actually just gets credit for the
win because nobody plays defense.
Speaker 7 (18:24):
I think there's a path for USC, maybe more so
in this game, there will be next weekend if they're
able to get out of the coliseum with a victory
on their resume before they play Oregon. You look at
Washington over the last couple weeks, whether it's a lull,
whether it's Michael Pennix not being one hundred percent, there
are some things to be legitimately concerned about with the Huskies.
They can't run the football, and you always want a
little bit of balance when you go out on the
conference road, especially against an offense as prolific as USC.
(18:47):
But I think the X factor for the Trojans, if
they're going to pull off the modest upset, isn't Caleb
Williams tomorrow. It's all about Marshawn Lloyd. I mean, this
is a guy who deserves a lot more in the
way of touches when you look at his yard for
carry average, what he can do to keep defense off balance.
We know stops are going to be at a premium
from start to finish. It's all about creating a short field,
forcing a turnover. We're doing something to try and flip
(19:09):
the script a little bit. Like you said, Harm, there's
a reason this total is in the high seventies, and
it's not because these two teams are going to play
at twenty to thirteen defensive minded thriller like we've grown
accustomed to in the Big ten West.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
All Right, tod I'll switch roles with Harmon here. I'll
say this so Harmon doesn't have to bring it up.
We'll get to the other big games in college football
in the second. But the over underline for Iowa Northwestern
this week opened at the lowest over under in the
history of college football, twenty nine and a half points. Now,
since going up about a point and a half now
(19:42):
it's at thirty one ish. Can you really take the
under on this? Can you really take the under of
it at thirty one points?
Speaker 4 (19:50):
Can you take the under?
Speaker 7 (19:51):
Anyone who's watched Iowa football, well, Brian Ferrins has been
the offensive coordinator. Will There's always a way And I
look no further than that twelve ten thriller we saw
at Kinnick a few weeks ago against Minnesota. But gentlemen,
I had to do a little bit of digging, and
I'm convinced I know how the oddsmakers arrived at a
total of twenty nine and a half. They went back,
they looked at the eighty plus game sample size of
(20:12):
Cubs home games this year and saw there was one
game this year where the Cubs and their opponents combined
for twenty nine runs. They figured, you know what, We're
gonna throw it out there. We're gonna set the football
total at twenty nine and a half, and we're going
to allow betters to take it where they feel comfortable.
I will tell you, though, as I'm sure harm can
attest to, this will feel like an Iowa home game.
I have to imagine it'll be about a seventy five
(20:34):
to twenty five split there on the north side. And
if Northwestern fans were smart, they wouldn't leave Murphy's bleachers
to go watch their team attempt to complete a forward pass.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
Yeah, but think about it, they win this game, suddenly
they're above five hundred.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Who would have think it todd.
Speaker 7 (20:47):
For Hey, look, I mean college football, crazy things can happen.
You slip by Howard, who's a middling towards the bottom
of the madle FCS team. But if you had told me
Boston College was going to be Bowl eligible after I
watched them struggle to do anything offensively against NIU and
nearly lose to Holy Cross. Miracles do happen from coast
to coast, and that's why we all stay glued to
(21:09):
the edge of our seat during college football season, not
to just watch the blue bloods play, but to see
who can be the king of mediocrity and get to
that six wins threshold.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
All right, Todd, if I said you give me odds,
I want to take tomorrow for Michael Pennix Junior over
five hundred yards passing and at least five touchdowns against USC.
Speaker 7 (21:28):
What do you you want both of them? You want
to parlay the yards and the touchdown passes together?
Speaker 2 (21:33):
What you're telling you? What is that even money?
Speaker 4 (21:34):
What is yeah?
Speaker 7 (21:35):
I mean you know, because because I'm in a generous mood,
I might be able to give you a plus one
twenty or plus one thirty. But if you look at
Pennix over the last couple of weeks, look, I mean
Arizona State shut him down. It looked like he was
throwing into a stiff breeze up there in Seattle. I mean, look, USC,
if they have a half a brain, which is debatable,
when you watch this team play defense, they should play,
(21:57):
you know, whatever they can, even if it means sneaking
an extra couple of defensive backs out there and playing
thirteen guys Darren Washington to run the football, even if
you're going to not contact the running back until he's
five yards downfield. Just don't let them play pitch and
catch over the top of that talented tandem of wide house.
Speaker 5 (22:13):
So many good top twenty five games on the slate
this week as we go around Todd, k State three
and a half point dogs on the road at Texas
number seven in the land, can you fill in the
gap on why such a little spread? You know, given
the spread in rankings with an over under of fifty.
Speaker 7 (22:37):
Numbers starting to come down even further, I wouldn't be
shocked if we saw this game closing right around a
field goal, despite it being a home game for Texas
on big noon kickoff at early eleven AM Central. Kick
out there, you look at Malik Murphy. He didn't exactly
go out there and press, and his starting debut against
BUYU was a little bit reckless with the football. From
folks I've spoken to, they don't believe he's anywhere close
(22:58):
to one hundred percent. But the thing about it is
this Texas defense is extremely stingy, and while Kansas State's
put up forty plus in back to back games against
Houston and TCU, they're going to find it significantly more
challenging to move the football but you look at what
they found in a quarterback candem and Will Howard and
Avery Johnson, Colin Klein has figured out how to deploy
a two quarterback system. And I think when you look
(23:20):
at this chess match Texas, if they can't run the football,
can the young quarterback make enough plays in the passing game.
I'm not so optimistic about it. And I think that's
why you're seeing a lot of support for the Purple
Cats coming in with this number opening as high as
four and a half, five ticking all the way down
to that three and a half range right now, all.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Right, Todd, last one for me in college football, we
have the last Bedlam tomorrow with Oklahoma Oklahoma State. I
don't want to bet the game. I want to bet
that there's a pregame skirmish involving the majority of both
teams in the middle of the field. That's what I
want to bet. What kind of odds you give me on that?
Speaker 7 (23:54):
I mean, I think that's a fair assumption to make.
There's no love loss between these two familiar foes. And
when you did get it a history in this robbery, Look,
Oklahoma State hasn't really been all that competitive. Coach Gundy
since taking over and still water his teams have gone
just three and fifteen. So if you can't win the
game on the field, you may as well try and
win the fight before and win the bar battle afterwards.
But I think Oklahoma State is gonna set Oklahoma up
(24:17):
for a four quarter fight here. The Sooners are trending
in the wrong direction. Oklahoma State is really rebounded after
they were absolutely blasted by South Alabama. And for some
of the casual fans out there that haven't had a
chance to watch Oklahoma State's running back Oli Gordon, he's
doing things in the backfield that we haven't seen since
Barry Sanders was there. Putting up back to back two
hundred and fifty plus yard rushing games should be a
(24:37):
tremendous game, And suddenly what we thought was a two
horse race in the Big twelve can be a lot
more disjointed. Of both Oklahoma and Texas go down, because
I know everybody would love to see Iowa State, Oklahoma State,
and Jerry's World playing for potential berth in the Fiesta Bowl.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
Oh, let's get it on.
Speaker 5 (24:53):
Todd Ferman, our guest Jason Smichew with me, Mike Harman,
here a lot from the Tyrek dot Com, Fox Sports Radio,
Udos Todd the Bet the Board podcast at bet the
Board Pod where you find them in the world of
Twitter download at you guys, all of y'all will be
that much smarter and ready to dominate your man or woman,
(25:14):
whoever your book is this weekend. Miami Kansas City moving
too the NFL. Kansas City a narrow two point favorite
fifty the over under on this one. Are people starting
to back off that Chiefs offense and shortening that line.
Speaker 7 (25:28):
I think there's a little bit of skepticism when you
look at what the Chiefs have done. They've come out
and been much more dynamic offensively in the first thirty
minutes than what we see after the break. They're still
trying to find a secondary option in the receiving game
opposite Travis Kelcey, and we've seen flashes of he she Rice.
But at the same time, I mean, this has been
a real two way battle. Some injuries for Kansas City
(25:49):
on the defensive side, specifically in their linebacking corps. Travel
situation favors Miami. They left Monday for Frankfurt. Kansas City
left in the middle of the week and when you
look at Vic Fangio, He's finally going to have a
full compliment of defensive backs that he can deploy in
a variety of ways in Javon Hollins, Zavian Howard, and
of course Jalen Ramsey. But the move I think that's
worth paying attention to in this game is the under
(26:10):
money that's come in when it got to fifty one.
That was kind of the cap for the market. You
look at international games, and while it's a limited sample
size with totals this high, they have had a knack
for coming in well under the total. I think both
these defenses can shine, and it wouldn't surprise me at
all if we saw a twenty four to twenty one
type football game.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
All right, Todd, let's close here. Who's happiest on Monday?
Mere Frostburg.
Speaker 7 (26:33):
I mean, I don't think either of you are going
to be happy when you have to subject yourself to
watching those two teams play football, whether it's the Chargers
play defense or the Jets attempt to throw the forward pass.
I'm going to go with a final score of three
to two. I think the Chargers win, the Jets find
a way to cover, and I'm able to get to
the window comfortably with a first half under twenty and
a half ticket.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
All right, Todd Furman, check them out on Twitter at
Todd Furman. Oh, Todd, all by the way, forgot heyre

stuff to harmon Is brothers. I don't know what that
kind of thing.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
Wow, hey, degenerate stuff to Harmon's brothers. Yet that No
truer phrase has ever been said, Todd Furman, Thank you very.
Speaker 2 (27:17):

Speaker 7 (27:18):

fit in perfect just well. They run in that kind
of book making operation overseas well.
