(00:50):
we're gonna hear from Josh Allen coming up in about
five minutes. He was not happy following the bills loss.
Thank you you you did? He look in the mirror
and yell blank me while I was at it, I mean, look,
it's it's it's. We talked about the struggles of Josh Allen,
the turnovers, and the two things that potentially helped fix
(01:11):
him a few minutes ago. But so we'll hear fro
him coming up in a few minutes. But let's talk
about the Broncos here for a little bit, because we
have to. I gotta, yeah, because I gotta give them
all kinds of credit, because this was a season that
was done. They were one and five and they were
gonna ride Sean Payton out of town like this was it.
Sean Please, Russell Wilson, Russell Wilson, everybody, and they're gonna
(01:35):
they were gonna they were gonna take away the two
Super Bowls from the late nineties. They were gonna erase
John Elway from the Hall of Fame. All of these
things were gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Look, if Cole can't get the Cowboys guys out, it's
extraneous Cowboys out.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
He ain't getting nowhere. This is a team that we
thought had quit on Sean Payton when they lost the
Dolphins seventy to twenty. Right, they beat the Bears and
then again you know Bears well, but again that was
one of the game of two halves.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Like that first half they look like they quit right
right right, and they were getting bullied up and down
the field and then all of a sudden, you had
the most improbable fourth quarter comeback to take a thirty
one to twenty eight victory away, and you know, any
hope that I had that my team's season was salvageable.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Then you had the Nathaniel Hackett revenge game against the
Jets where the Jets win, and then the loss to
Kansas City where your defense plays pretty well, and you
are sitting at one and five like that's it, like
you're done, season's done. Sean Payton already, you're wondering what
kind of control he has. You're wondering if, even though
he's made Russell Wilson a little bit better this year,
(02:40):
is Russell Wilson gonna survive? Who's gonna win that battle
between he and Sean Payton? Your season is over? And
I thought they it was like everybody else, it was over.
And then what happens. You beat Green Bay? Okay, well,
Green Bay's got a lot of problems and Jordan Love
isn't very good. But then they beat the Chiefs and
(03:01):
the defense plays incredibly well and they take advantage of
every single Buffalo Bills gift. Tonight, they were not the
better team on the field, tonight. They just made less mistakes.
But it doesn't matter because you're talking about three straight wins,
this one on the road, and now they're in the
mix to be a playoff team. They are rare one
game out of the playoffs at four and five.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Well, one of the big things you don't beat yourself.
You take advantage of these spots on the schedule. Right
you had the Chiefs. That was, you know, the inane
NFL scheduling of the Hey, we'll give you another division
battle here in the middle of the season, you know,
two weeks after you played them, and they win that
game going away, Chiefs having their issues obviously offensively ahead
(03:43):
of their bye week, and the Packers, look there, Jordan Love,
he makes some great throws. And then there are times
where that team just they're maddening, just like so many
other teams in the NFL. But you got a three
game winning winning streak, and now you go to Sunday
Night football against everybody's darling.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
We talked about it earlier in the show. Grabbed the
podcast before you hear it anywhere else. Is the Josh
Dobbs Show. Because we got Denver in Minnesota on Sunday
Night Football but you got a team that has suddenly.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Sparked a life Courtland Sutton. He had a fumble, but
he had a big, big game otherwise, a number of catches,
a touchdown reception for Russell Wilson.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Say what you will.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
It's completing two thirds of his passes and he's got
four touchdowns per pick. Right, it hasn't always been exciting.
And the defense with Vance Joseph, even with getting rid
of some of their defensive front, especially like Randy Gregory
when he was trying to like, all right, the white
flag is at half masted, when will it go up?
Speaker 1 (04:43):
Fully? And Patrick Sartain, we keep hearing more and more
teams while we were, you know, all the mystery teams
popping up that oh yeah, yeah, we inquired and they
kept him around. All of a sudden, the defense plays
a pretty good ball again. You take advantage of the
schedule and where you can, and in this case went
the team just decides, here, we don't need this anymore.
Take the football, as the Bills did multiple times tonight,
(05:07):
and you use it to her advantage. Game with a
comedy of errors, they deserve to lose at the end.
We've already chronicled that, but they get the W and
now they're positioned to potentially make a playoff run, which
is just unbelievable considering a month ago. We were all,
you know, with our little tools, like we were members
of the Flintstones, carving out little uh sayings and epitaphs
(05:31):
for their demise. They are the Broncos, are the personification
of the Undertaker. Joh, that's good, just like ah, they're dead,
they're dead. Oh wait no, and I'm sitting up right
if it was before Halloween to be the Michael Myerschiff
when he sits up after, but it's the Undertaker. I
am you. We're dead, We're dead. I'm sorry, you're dead.
You lost seventy to twenty, you lost to the Jets,
(05:51):
you're one and five. You're dead. And then suddenly, no,
we are sitting up and rising for no reason whatsoever.
Globally bigger like recognition. If I were to say to
someone Michael Myers or the Undertaker, oh oh Michael Myers, Undertaker, Global, Myers, Global,
Michael Myers, Michael Myers, Yeah, see big United States, Michael,
(06:16):
he might, he might outweigh The Undertain has been a
thing now since since nineteen seventy eight. Yeah, the Undertaker
is not far behind nineteen, nineteen, ninety one, nineteen. But
people don't go all of a sudden go crazy dressing
up as the Undertaker. They like Michael Myers. Michael Myers,
he owns a lot of holiday. The guy owns a holiday.
Come on, you haven't seen a bunch of little kids
(06:38):
running around like the Undertaker and Perconval Pringle, No I have,
I have not. You wouldn't Bear. I've not seen any
little kid ever dressed up like Paul Bear running around
with the ashes of former conquests.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
I did try it at one point to pull that out.
I was rebuffed.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Oh boy. Now Russell Wilson is a different conversation here
because watching him play all season, right, I said, look
that the three biggest topics this year. Uh, going into
this season, Look, Aaron Rodgers and the Jets were number one.
Cowboys is always gonna be number two, Russell Wilson and
(07:21):
Sean Payton is gonna be number three. We've gotten to
see a lot of Russell Wilson, and what I see
from him now is this He's not the quarterback he was,
but he's also not the quarterback from last year, Sean
Payton has gotten to him to Wow, this is the
best version of what you're gonna get from Russell Wilson
(07:42):
the rest of his career. Like this is this is
this is his top level performance. Is he gonna throw
for three hundred and fifty yards and win games anymore? No,
he's not gonna do that. Is he gonna go crazy
and scramble for for seventy five yards and again? No,
but once in a while, is he gonna scramble for
a big play? Yeah? Is he gonna make clutch plays
and and throw a couple of touchdowns a week? Yeah,
He's not that player when he was an MVP caliber guy,
(08:05):
but he has gotten close enough to it where, Okay,
he's now in the upper half quarterbacks of the NFL again,
and you can win a little bit with him. He's
got a guy that's gonna age slowly at this point
because now he's in the right look. And we watch
Sean Payton succeed with every quarterback he's ever had, and
it took a little bit of time, But now he's
on that pace with Russell Wilson where he's gonna throw
(08:27):
for two hundred yards and a couple of touchdowns every game,
and you know, maybe he turns it over, but he'll
also have times when he tucks the ball and runs
for a big first down here and there, like he
did tonight. He's not gonna run like he did earlier
in his career. He's not gonna run around thirty yards
behind the line of scrimmage and then flip one forward
to Tyler Lockett or Doug Baldwin for fifteen yards. But
he's close enough to that version that you can win
(08:48):
with him. You got Doug Baldwin, I like getting bubble
talk about the guy with MVP votes, So I feel
confident that that now they've gotten him back to that
point where if you're going forward with Russell Wilson, you
feel a lot better than you used to. Where this
guy's wash and he's done at the end of the season.
Everything's now it's like, Okay, well maybe they can coexist,
maybe both of them can come back. Maybe this will
(09:09):
work now, because a couple weeks ago it was not
gonna work. And Russell Wilson's gone and so and Sean
Payton's on his last gas chance he may get run
out of town. And now it's hey, get these guys
another offseason together and some time to fix a couple
of things and get a couple more good wide receivers
in there. Hey, maybe things can wind up working here.
This is what has happened over the course of the
(09:31):
past month with the Denver Broncos. But this is the
truth of Russell Wilson. He is now the best version
of himself. He's gonna be for the rest of his career. Again,
cited some of the stats coming into into tonight and
what he was able to do. I mean the big
play that I think personifies where he's at. He was
willing to absolutely get hammered on the play where he
(09:54):
threw the touchdown pass to Javonte Williams, waiting that extra
second for him to finish off his route and catch
him in the end zone instead of maybe forcing to
throw a bit earlier or getting impatient and trying to
make a play with his leg. He stood in and
he took a hit. He took a huge hit. But
as he's on the ground, he sees that Williams was
able to secure the pass and you got the fist
(10:16):
pump while still entangled with the defender who was there
just about a quarter second too slow, otherwise obliteration and
maybe that ball goes sailing up in the air or
you get a fumble altogether. But for Russell Wilson and
for Sean Payton, bye, we came at a good time, right,
you're starting to turn in the right direction. You get
the Bills at the right time where they're all out
(10:38):
of sorts. I mean, Josh Allen coming into this game
had been twenty one and five coming off a loss,
and this game was just awful in so many ways.
They still had a chance to steal it. So credit
to Denver taking advantage as they did, obviously relying on
your field goal kicker repeatedly, sometimes we'll come back to
bite you in the as and there were some specialty
(11:00):
gaffs that will need to be cleaned up. But you
escaped Buffalo with the w You didn't have to jump
through any tables, and then you get to go back
back home and start this next second the second half
of your season. So there it is for the Denver Broncos.
What about the Buffalo Bills. We promise you'd hear from
Josh Allen. Here is the Bills quarterback who met the
(11:20):
media a few moments ago, talking about the loss to
Denver sucks shouldn't have been in that position in the
first place.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
It's a lot about football. It's a lot about football, Josh.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
It looks like a couple of times there were in
trouble with the exchange with James Cook.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
You know obviously the one was a funbably looked like
there were a few times there were.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Some issues that what goes into that right there?
Speaker 1 (11:48):
I mean just getting getting more reps at practice, that's
just something we can't have.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Josh, saw this rough fat for the offense.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
You've maintained your confidence that you guys have we'll be
able to turn it around at some.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
Point after this performance. Do you remain confident after all
the quote and to use your words, bad football that
was put on display tonight.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Yeah, I'm still confident, but it's no statement.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
The clock's taking you know, that has emergency.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
You know what what leaves you still confident in the
offense after it's been so many weeks of kind of
the same story here. Couldn't have done it before? Hey,
Mitch five and five?
Speaker 5 (12:30):
How people all against Well, it's not ideal? I think
now is it's gonna be the real test for this team?
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (12:41):
Not so much on Sundays, but how we stick together
through this on the week, look at it objectively and
then I think the best teams when the pressures at
its highest, uh and when and when everything seems to
be crumbling, this is when they it's it's when it's
(13:04):
you know it's not and you come together closer. It's
like breaking a bone, right like when you heal it,
it would comes stronger. So for us, we guess what
we got to do and uh very confident this team
to do that. It's not gonna be uh easy, but
like Josh said, the clock is ticking and we just
have to uh take this right now, one day at
(13:25):
a time. But at the same time, look at everything objectively, Josh, Josh,
what I mean?
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Yeah, Dick, take take take take take, take, take, take, take, take,
take take. Are you still confident? No?
Speaker 3 (13:36):
This absolutely shattered me. I will be lucky to ever
get it together again.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
I'm going to Wegmans, so I'm gonna get some stuff
and hang out and go have a sandwich and then
I'll be bounce you guys at practice tomorrow. I'll be there.
I'll see you.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
I mean, I get it what you're asking there of
you know, the lack of continuity, the exchanges. I thought
that was a pretty good question. But the are you
you know, have you lost confidence in your squad?
Speaker 5 (14:02):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (14:03):
Yeah, Now the great answer would have been Jets are
still running with Zach Wilson.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
Yeah, and the Patriots are absolutely god awful. All right,
so let's just understand that. Uh So, there it is. Hey,
there's some truth for Russell Wilson. There's some truth about
the Broncos, all kinds of credit and very upset Josh Allen.
Will he be more upset after the story we bring
(14:29):
you coming up next because one SuperStar's brother has taken
to social media and says that his brother's got to
get up out of Buffalo after tonight. We got that
story coming out, and you can you know exactly who
we're talking about. That's that, Yeah, Jason and Mike, this

Speaker 1 (16:32):
Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Now, if you remember, way back when we
started the show, tonight we open the microphones, we talked
about the Bills Broncos, and this is when the Bills
are in the midst of their struggles, not at the
end of the game when you saw the results of
their struggles four turnovers. Tonight, the Broncos win the game
(16:56):
despite missing two extra points, having the game winning field
goal go wide right, but the Bills are penalized for
twelve men on the field. TJ Russell Wilson still getting
helped by the twelfth MANDJ and incredibly frustrating lost by
the Bills, and we told you, even if they won
this game, Look, it's just not the same Bills team.
(17:18):
Every year for the last five years or four years
since Josh Allen's break through year in twenty twenty has
been boy, the Bills are a super Bowl team. And
we still think of the Bills as the team that
lost that incredible playoff game to the Chiefs where it was, oh,
it's so sad that Josh Allen didn't get the football
in overtime. We still think that that's the Bills, And
I'm sorry that is not the Bills in the summer,
(17:41):
in the summer when it was like, you know, three
degrees hotter than it is now in the summer, we
told you, this is not the same Bills team. They
are going to struggle more than you think. Just because
you see Josh Allen and Stefan Diggs doesn't mean that
suddenly they're still going to be as good as they were.
Their defense is not what it was in the heyday
(18:02):
of the Bills twenty twenty one, twenty two. It's not
the same. They're still trying to find their identity in
the running game. Can you rely on James Cook. Do
you need both? Do you need more Josh Allen running
the football? And Josh Allen clearly throwing the football, taking
too many chances, too many bad throws when he needs
to know the value of a five yard dump off.
(18:22):
All of these problems. We knew coming into the season
this was gonna be the Bills, and then it didn't
start off well because what do we get in the
beginning of the season was Hey, is Stefon Diggs really
happy in Buffalo? He didn't show up for practice and
Sean McDermott answered questions horrifically about it. Now he's gonna
come back tomorrow, he'll be here. Yeah, So wait a minute,
(18:43):
is Deefon Diggs happy? Is he unhappy? Does he want
more money? What's going on? Does he want out? Josh
Allen had to have a press conferencing Everything is fine.
Stefan is great. I talked to him, and you knew
that things weren't starting well for the Bills. You knew it.
They just didn't They didn't have that. Hey, we're getting
back to basics. We have some new players and new faces.
We have to incorporate Dalton Kincage, which they've done the
(19:03):
last few weeks. Have to figure out our running game,
all these things. But they never had that smooth start
to the season and they lose to the Jets. When
the Jets play the entire game with Zach Wilson, and
it's never gotten better for them. They've been stopping starting,
they've not been as good. And now we get this
from Trevon Diggs, injured Cowboys star brother of Bill's wide
(19:24):
receiver Stefon Diggs, tweeted this out after the game tonight.
Stefan Diggs three catches thirty four yards. We talked about
it did have a tough matchup coming into the game,
but three catches thirty four yards, five targets. Trevon Diggs
tweets out man fourteen Stefan Diggs man fourteen. Gotta get
up out of there, with a couple of crying emojis
(19:46):
after that. So here's Stefon Diggs's brother saying, my brother's
got to get out of Buffalo. Now you're still gonna
tell me this is the same Buffalo Bill's team. It
is no, I mean.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
And even coming into the year, one of the big
changes that you had was the fact that Leslie Fraser
walked away and Sean McDermott is acting as your defensive coordinator.
How's that worked out for other teams that have had
head coaches in that same vein? Still looking for the
guy that left Chicago. By the way, Alan Williams is
(20:18):
his name. His name was Alan Willis.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
We're never We're never gonna find him Williams. But we
look at in Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
You've had a number of changes, right, von Miller's finally
playing again, but doesn't matter. Milano's gone, White's gone. Uh,
you're not getting that same rush.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
I mean even on a on the third down play
where you had the pass interference, you called it all
out blitz.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
It makes no sense when they're at there. You know
forty five, I know will Lutz was having himself a game.
I don't think he was going super tow from sixty two.
But yeah, all of this now comes back to the
Brothers digs and what happens. I mean, obviously you'd like
to think from a professional standpoint. For Stefan Diggs, he
(21:06):
realized run game's really effective right now where they're just
plowing over the Broncos. But since you already had these
seeds of malcontendedness out there and disagreements that had to
be tiptoed around, and little impromptu pressers during the preseason
and into the regular year. Yeah, this probably does start
(21:27):
to blow up once again, especially when you see miscus
and attempts to get the ball to the secondary receivers
and watch it slip through their hands for interceptions, watch
it slip through opportunities. And then you lose a game
like this and you say, you know what I could
have done more. I could have been played a bigger
role in this game with a couple of targets. Hell,
(21:48):
I'm Stefan Diggs. I can win one on one against
this guy. Throw me the rock, right Remember a month ago,
ceedee Lamb, everybody was saying, Oh, he's just a guy.
All of a sudden, he's on one of the the
biggest tearrors we've seen by a receiver in years. And
did the secondary receivers in Dallas suddenly get good. No,
they've had some bad matchups as well, But you take
(22:10):
advantage of what's out there and you try to get
your top playmakers the ball.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
Likewise, here for the Buffalo Bills, how you're not scheming
things up to just get the ball and digs his
hands and get him started, right. You saw it yesterday
with Devonte Adams. Antonio pears flat out, I'm not an idiot. Yeah,
I gotta get all but which was basically flipping the
double bird over to Josh McDaniels.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
I'm not an idiot. I gotta get my guy of
the ball. Doesn't mean you're throwing the ball twenty yards
down field, no, it was. It's a two yards swing.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
It was DeVante Adams starting on one side of the field,
coming all the way across, hoping to lose coverage just
to get him the football. And it works.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
But just enough space. Three yard pass, that's all you
need to do, and then let him make a play
after the catch. That would be where I think the
Bills would also be wise from a keeping a guy happy.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
Perspective, but getting the ball into his hand. He's yeah,
But usually with digs the play when they need to
get him the ball because he's a guy that if
I don't get the ball, I chafe, right, that's him.
Usually the plays that work is that little small slant
sure where it's that five to seven yard slant that
maybe he catches and he goes forward for ten or
twelve yards or least eight yards uh a slug route slugo.
(23:24):
Those are the routes that get him back on target.
And he didn't have that tonight and and the Broncos didn't. Again,
tough matchup for him. We knew coming in. Tough matchup
for him, and it was gonna be Not every game
is gonna be Stefan Diggs twelve catches, he's over thirty.
Now younger DB's are gonna have a chance to lock
him up. Doesn't mean he's not a top receiver. But
not every game is gonna go this way. And you know,
(23:47):
you know the Bills they tried a couple of those
quick slants and it didn't work. Josh Allen was off
target and coverage was there for him. The Again, this
all falls under the category of the Bills are not
the Bills, And if they have a bad year this year,
then you watch things get blown up after this year.
And still mut McDermott will likely be out. Stefan Diggs
will be gone, They will trade him. Listen, you gotta
(24:08):
get up out of Buffalo, up out of Buffalo, and
they try to reimagine the team around Josh Allen a
little bit differently. Hey, maybe they look at it like
a mahomes in Kansas City, where Okay, the one guy
we have is our tight end because Dalton k and
Kate is turning into a store. Uh great, he's he's
our guy. He's an ex Travis Kelcey. And now let's
have the wide receivers around him and maybe we can
(24:29):
take some of that money and we can move it
around and do a couple of things. We have to
reima because it's not good enough. Our window with this
team is closed. We got to open it up again.
But that's what you're looking at. If you're Buffalo. The
end of this year comes, it's not gonna be Hey,
We're just gonna run it back next year and hope
it happens. There's gonna be big time changes. And if
it's already tough with Stefawan Diggs even coming into the year,
you could tell he wasn't happy. And you know, now
(24:49):
you're at the point his brother's tweeting out. My brother's
got to get up out of there, and his brother
knows what tweeting that out there is gonna mean for him.
So it's not like Trevon Diggs is doing this and
suddenly Stefawn's gonna call him a dude, what are you doing? Man?
What are you doing? He's not just gonna tweet that
out there. It's like, Oh, I'm sorry, man, I just
got caught up in it. That's my bad. So you
know there's been conversation, you know, you know what what's
out there. This will be the end of Stefon Diggs
(25:11):
in Buffalo and be the end of a lot of things
in Buffalo too, because they're gonna have to start over,
because because what it's gonna be is it's not that
suddenly the Bills have turned into an awful team, but
their Super Bowl window is closing and it will close
at the end of this year with this group. We
told you this in the summer. This window is closing,
and it's closing fast, and now it looks like it
might be closed well again with the the AFC. And
(25:34):
this is where it's kind of funny, is given where
we're at at this point in the season, who were
you saying, all right, has it all together? Nobody, Miami Dolphins, Jack,
just have it all together? Except completely offense completely, but
legitimately right, we were talking before crown. The Ravens, well,
(25:54):
they don't close and they gave up a big lead,
and all of a sudden, Deshaun Watson, a little bit
of that undertaker meme thing down the stretch, actually played
some of the best football he's played in a very
long time.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
Down the stretch. We know that defense. There's no slouches there,
so they're back in the mix. Pittsburgh keeps winning, can
he Pickett? I think on average if you count, but
they stay in games. They're enough of a nuisance. There's
six or three. Okay, you don't have to like it,
but they're good enough. And with Tomblin's always gonna have
(26:30):
him around. Jalen Warren Naji Harris seems to have been
spurred on by the fact that Warren was introduced as
the starter because he ran like he was shot out
of the cannon to start that game and all.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Of a sudden. But they're hanging around. But the point
is in the AFC, it's a bleeping mess all the
way around. Chiefs haven't figured out their offense yet. Defense
has been fantastic, so we go into all these different
component parts. There's no team running away and hiding, so
you just need to get your ticket to the dance
and have a few things figured out. Now, do I
believe necess early with one of the hardest schedules in
(27:02):
the NFL down the stretch and that's what the bills
are Statistically, I think it's a it's a top five
hardest schedule down this stretch. Here a couple of games
that are really make him and break or break him
here in the next couple of weeks. But I wouldn't
definitively rule it out, at least when we look at
the AFC, because it's a quagmar. It really is in
(27:24):
terms of teams rising up and saying, we're just trying.
Jacksonville's the lead in the South? Do they matter? No,
we get excited about Houston. But am I?
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Am I suddenly gonna go lop a bunch of gold
bars into a middle of a table. Say I'm on
board and it's a fantastic story.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
Went from one hundred to one last week to thirty
to one now I told you, and now today everybody's
on that. Oh yes, I think CJ. Stroud might be
the MVP. Sorry, dan Orlovski, we talked about it last week. Congratulations,
hope you got a lot of clicks. Yeah, we were
on that, I mean, and he played really well and
he has been for a while. But there's a division
suddenly asunder right, Trevor Lawrence hasn't been good. Justin field
(28:06):
still has more touchdown passes than Trevor Lawrence and he
hasn't played weeks right, So I mean, we we go
through all of the the AFC go division by division,
the Bills are still the second best team in that division.
I will say this of all the teams that I
can see making a run, right, like, if you get
(28:26):
it together, because because you have a really good quarterback,
you could make a run. That's it. But the bottom
line is you've had the schedule to make that run
already and you haven't done it. So now when it
gets harder, you're gonna make the run against that difficult
schedule you've had. You've played the Jets and the Broncos
and you lost both those games. You've had the Jets
(28:47):
defensively have been strong, Jets defensively are great, and the
Broncos after that seventy points shlacking by the Dolphins and
all the calls for Vance Joseph's head, which they did
not decide to do. They've suddenly figured out they've gotten
healthier defensively, and even with shedding off some of the
extra players, they've made a run and they've gotten much better.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
They got a couple of extra gifts. I mean, you
want to talk about holidays. Holidays, holidays come in early.
We're celebrating Diwali of cheerstall you that celebrate the the
idea that you know you had those the fumble in
the interception where absolutely we're gift wrapped turnovers for you,
so you make the most of them. But for the bills,
(29:34):
I don't count them out as dead. So long as
seventeen's upright and moving hasn't hasn't held up a sign
saying I want out, Like he's wildly coyote.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
It's like your mom when she sees it's gonna raine.
She's having trouble closing that window, but eventual she gets
it that shuts that slamming seal. Always kind of scared
that the old school windows now got the glides or
whatever the old ones, because the windows would would would
change and they would they would ebb and flow and
the wood would expand a contract. That's what's happening to
(30:05):
the Bills right now. That window is shutting. That window
is shutting. The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. We'll have more on this Monday night debacle
for the Bills and an absolute gift for the Broncos
coming up. But straight ahead, I have a new idea
one of the biggest plays of the week in the NFL.
I have a new idea for a play that can
(30:26):
make this happen. Ohay, oh wait you hear it. You're
gonna love it. You're gonna love sure about that, You're
gonna absolutely love it. It said. Stop, it's not the Hey,
we're almost at the anniversary are wait? No or not?
I'm I'm taking next week off. That's coming up next
right here, Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. He there. We'll have more on the
Bills Broncos game coming up at about ten minutes day real quick,
let's hear from James Cook and Gave Davis of the Bills. Oh,
they decided not to talk after the game come out.
Well they could have gone and done a tearful you
(31:10):
know this was for you. I'm sorry, well said, I'm sorry. James.
Why did you fumble the ball eleven times tonight? James?
What happened? What happened? James? Why'd you fumble? Do you
practice that one where you get it kind of stripped
out but kind of drop it and it bounces back
up to you. Is that one of those, you know,
football tricks you learned? So? Uh, yeah, the Bill's not happy.
(31:31):
The Broncos are going, oh, we got a gift. One
of the biggest plays of the week was the hail
Mary that turned into a fail mary the Jets Raiders
game last night. Final play of the game, it looked
like Garrett Wilson might be able to leap up and
catch the hail Mary and win the game for the Jets.
Jets Tyler Conklin leaped up in the big scrum and
(31:54):
got his hand up, got his hand in the way,
and knocked the ball down. This is how it sounded
on the Raiders radio network.
Speaker 4 (31:59):
From the forty four Wilson back to throw, Crosby spins
him around.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
Wilson meek chased.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
Crosby's got him back at the forty. Wilson's gonna heave
to the end zone to our right, hits up in
the air, had it run it down late. Hobbs got
his hands on it to knock it down at the
goal line.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
And the Raiders wait at home sixteen twelve to get
to five and five.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
On the season.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
Okay, that's a lie. Uh, Tyler Conklin hit his hand.
And I've seen a lot of today seeing the Oh
look at Jets player knocks the hail Mary down out
of his teammate's hands. I go. Everybody's jumping at the
same time for this ball. If this was any other team,
nobody would say anything. But it's the Jets, so it's.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
Ah, look at the Hall Mary.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Man. They screwed it up. But this gives me an
idea for a new hail Mary. Yeah, but he wasn't.
Was he trying to catch the ball?
Speaker 3 (32:50):
Because the motion of his arm it looked like, yeah,
because you're not banning it on?
Speaker 1 (32:56):
Am I trying to catch it? Am? I?
Speaker 5 (32:57):
What?
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Am I?
Speaker 3 (32:57):
I don't know what I'm trying to be, you know
what I'm saying, Like, that's the larger question. It's like,
how does that help anything?
Speaker 1 (33:03):
It looks like he was trying to grab it and
pull it in with one arm a tight end.
Speaker 5 (33:07):
You know.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
I mean, he did make a great catch two plays ago,
but come on, man, let's be real about this. There's
a lot of bodies in there. But you know, my
idea for a hail Mary, My great idea for Hail
Mary was everybody gets to one end of the field
and the quarterback rolls out and he throws it high
towards the other end and the receiver. One receiver breaks
and tries to catch maybe a one on one ball.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
As well as the guy's laying down like they were
in the street. I pretends in my ankle and he
gets back up and sprints in.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
So so you like that idea. But here's a new idea.
I'm not saying I like it, but go. It's something
just got to go. But here's my new idea. And
I don't know why teams don't do this. These guys
watching watching this play. You see how this goes, and
Malik Taylor of the Jets is five yards away looking
for the deflection right like it goes and it bounces off.
(33:54):
Maybe he's there maybe it bounds to me for a deflection.
What I don't understand is this, Why don't play it
because it's so hard to go up and just make
the catch. And I get that, but why don't players
go in and someone like Garrett Wilson goes in and
what his job to do is, I'm going to punch
it or deflect it away from the scrum where one
(34:17):
of our receivers is Why does nobody going when you
have a tall receiver, someone, I'm not going up and
try it, because go up and try to catch it
as hard because you have you have five seven guys
up there. But why can no one go up and
hide a volleyball set right and just I'm tipping it
up in the air, not the deflection, but actually physically saying, okay,
here's my job because I know on my right side
we practice this. Malik Taylor's five yards away. I'm gonna
(34:40):
go up and I'm gonna tip it that way, and
maybe that works. I don't know why teams don't do
that more why someone just saysn't win as a designated
tipper to go I'm gonna jump up and I'm not
gonna try to catch it. I know you gotta you
gotta fight the temptation to say I want to make
the play, but I'm going to tip this, and I'm
gonna tip it to a guy who's because all the
defenders are gonna be right there and and the best
(35:00):
part about this play is that if you do tip it,
then team's gonna have to adjust and they'll have to
put guys with the guys not in the scrum. Maybe
the scrum becomes a little bit less populated and a
great receiver could go up and snatch the ball out
because maybe it's just double coverage at that point. Seeh
I dig this theory. You'd need a sample size large
enough to get them to change their minds. They do
(35:22):
on fourth down plays now, where we go for it
all the time, where we go for two when it
makes no sense. But I do like this. I mean,
this is like not only a volleyball set, but this
is the way Ac Earl played defense for the Iowa
Hawk ass where it was about everybody else wanted to
reject the ball into the fifth row. He would figure
out where his teammate was and just kind of tap it.
(35:44):
All right, I got the block shot, but I tipped
it to my guard or one of my forwards who's
down in the low post, and we get a break
going out the other way, as opposed to yeah, they
still have the ball. Here you go, I got a
c earl. But I like the theory, but that because
that would work. That would work. That would work a
couple of times until teams decide, okay, well now we
(36:07):
have to guard against the tip and then but it
works a couple of the then there's less guys, and
then there's a verticality. Yeah, and you get high point
the ball and tip it and don't try to catch
it because if you try to tip it, get your hands,
you can punch the ball whatever it is. That ball
could bounce up somewhere and you have a couple of
guys down there going okay, I'm gonna try to catch goes.
(36:31):
The Jets signed Wemby to go down there for a
for a hail Mary. Would that work though? You think
Wemby just runs down the field and he just stands
there with his hands up in the air and he
would just catch it really easy. Would be like your
bigger brother, Like you're trying to play defense against your
big brother and he just like puts his hands up
and catches the ball. Yeah, we got used to that
pretty quick, of just cracking him in the ribs. Yeah, well,
that's Chicago defense right there. That's not that doesn't work
(36:54):
in the old Blood all that. No. No, but on
a Hail Mary, they may not, Jason, the Bears don't
play defense. We just we just I just get you're
gonna talk about defense. I smoke to you, I am
going to talk. I just punched my brother.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
In the ribs.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
That's Chicago defense, right yeah. The ball out kind of
mocking you my idea, my idea cracked in the ribs.
Exit I by the Fresco exit swelling dome. Up next,
we go into this crazy ending from Monday Night Football, Fox,
