Speaker 1 (01:56):
Oh okay, all right, very well, not really. You're one

the broadcast, okay, okay.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
Uh separates himself from the actual product.

thank you to very hard working people in justin Frostburg
and Alex Teischer there. How's that? Is that? Good?
Speaker 5 (02:30):
Two out of three? Ain't bad?
Speaker 4 (02:32):
That sound bad?
Speaker 1 (02:33):
All right? Very good? Well? Harmon, do I have to
thank you? But do I have to?
Speaker 6 (02:37):

Speaker 5 (02:47):
Hey man, Then it'll come up again.
Speaker 4 (02:51):

Speaker 1 (02:52):

Speaker 5 (03:12):
It's because interesting thing again, I'm a guest.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
I'm a guest. I'm a guest. It's like this.
Speaker 5 (03:18):
Look, if I was over there, I might have sent
something out.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
I don't know how that feels.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
So you do it as a guest, but you should
be doing it, even more so if it's your own house.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
But I but I see you guys every day. Okay,
we can do Okay, how about this? No more meals,
but I will thank you every night.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
I mean, you can take all three of them back.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
All three of them. Okay. Hey, I'm like Robert Salad.
I got receipts, man, I got receipts.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
A credit card up in here. We don't need your meals.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
That is true. That I mean he's waiting to get
that big bill at the end of the month. It
is going to happen.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
But I don't tell Mike.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
I'm vigilant. We still have his credit card number. We
have free food coming tomorrow. It is the Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon and of course
the Dulcet towns of Justin Frostburg and Alex Tischer here
on the show tonight. Welcome inside. We're live at the
(04:15):
Tirack dot Com Studios tirec dot Com. I'll help you
get there. An unmatched selection fast free shipping free road
has a protection and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirerack
dot com the way tire buying should be. Now, wasn't
that nice? I could have I could have been Now,
I was nice. I could have been Draymond Green, and
you could have been Rudy Goldbert. I could have grabbed
you around the neck to do no. But I was nice.
(04:36):
I could have been the other way. But I don't
want a five game suspension. Now I turned the other cheek.
I did the right thing.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
It would have cost you seven hundred and sixty seven
thousand dollars in your house next to JJ Abrams.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Yes, a big night in the NBA tonight for myself,
Mike Harmon, Justin Frossberg and Alex Tyser. Wonderful, wonderful broadcast
we have going on here. But first of all, hey,
I mean really, everybody needs to know the Knicks one
one sixteen, one fourteen. Here come the Nigs. Look at this,
we're over five hundred Nicks Nicks.
Speaker 5 (05:08):
Wait, wait the riddle me. This is it a playoff
game the night? I mean no, it's not in season
tournament or not.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Now the Lakers are starting, and is that that's not
a playing game. So I expect them.
Speaker 5 (05:19):
They're gonna have to play every game like it is.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
They're gonna get blown out tonight.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
Yeah, they're gonna think Sacramento is gonna kill them tonight
because it's not a play, it's not a player Hey,
come on, man, it see in season tournament we got
to really get out of a back to back, and
everybody's playing, what the hell is going on here? Bron No, No,
you kidding? Watch what happens a tip off. They're gonna
they're gonna walk out and go, wait, why isn't the
floor seid? Oh? Because it's not. Yeah, no, we're all
sitting out tonight. We're all saying Austin Reeves is back
in the starting lineup. Just just watch what happens they're
(05:45):
actually doing. I gotta see the I gotta see the experiment.
Speaker 5 (05:50):
I gotta see the floor stripe on the court. Then
they can't play.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
They're out, but they're playing.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Listen, they don't know it's not a game. Can you
just put a stripe of paint, a stripe of purple
paint just right down the middle and don't reference it
and they'll think that it's a playing game. And the
Lakers will want to play so they can win this title.
Telling you, man, if the Lakers win the playing title
and right now they're the number one seed overall in
the play in tournament, if they win that, you're not
gonna see Lebron and ad for the rest of the
(06:20):
regular season. Man, they'll come back the day before the
playoffs say okay, we're rested, we're ready. You're never gonna
see them, and they're gonna say, we want a championship.
When's a parade? I'm wrapping up now, now good, We're
taking December, January, February, March, April. There's gonna be pictures
of us at Turks and Caicos. We're gonna be on ships,
on yachts to it all. You'll never see them until.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
They'll be on the bench smoking cigars.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
No, they're not gonna be around the team. You kidding
with all that time they're gonna take off, They're gon
go round for You're not gonna see them. It just
do stuff on social media for them, that's all.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
It's gonna be Operation shutdown. Hey, guys, can't wait to
see what you do in this big game against the Rockets.
As he affixes a norkle to his head.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Look, guys, good luck to see guys. I'm with you
in spirit, he said. They send videos to the locker room. Hey, guys,
Lebron and a D sent a video. Where are they
this time? I don't know Greenland, Iceland. I don't know
here they are.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
Just say the salt water is really good for me.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Here they're all just lounging. They're lounging on the deck. Hey, guys,
go get them. I don't know if you're playing now,
because the time difference here and there is I can't
keep it straight. But good luck, good luck tonight against
the hang on DA Kings. Kings tonight, Kings. Very good.
There we go. Okay, good, thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
That's I'm playing hockey tonight, guys.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Yeah, uh so that game Sacramento in LA is about
six minutes away. And meanwhile, as as remember, the Knicks
one but the big NBA news of the night came
down about an hour and a half ago. Because of
this last night, Draymond Green will now be sitting out
for not one, not two, not three, not four, but
(07:55):
five games in the NBA season. Take a listen.
Speaker 7 (08:00):
Up on a straightaway three it's off the front rim
no and the rebound to Draymond Green and did not
have old But Jade McDaniels and Lay Thompson are throwing
punches at one another. They got to be separated. Now
someone's got Rudy in a headlock. It's Draymond. Someone get
that dude in a headlock. Two teams have to be separated.
Jaden is hot. Rudy got tackled to the floor somehow,
(08:22):
Draymond just got Rudy around the neck from behind. Well,
if he couldn't hate Draymond Green anymore, just add this
to the list.
Speaker 6 (08:30):
There.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
It is Wolves Radio Network on the call.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
If you can learn from at the feet of Kevin Harlan, Uh,
it was drunk.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
It was a big frake. It's before the first points
of the game were even scored. It was Klay Thompson
and Jade McDaniels who both got ejected get into it first.
Then we watched Rudy Gobert try to get in the
middle and try to break it up, and before he
could do anything, Draymond Green jumps in from behind, flies
in the fastest I've seen Draymond move I think in
five years. He hasn't moved to the hoop faster. Then
he moved to Rudy go Bear's good move, grabbed him
(09:00):
with a with a headlock behind behind his neck. You've
probably seen the video, drags him off, And we said
it last night, this is gonna be a big suspension
because Draymond Green was out of control on the court.
It's what it is. He's he was out of control.
There's nothing you can say. You want to get in
the middle because you don't like that Gobert. Is that Okay,
I get it, but you just grab a guy from behind,
it's dangerous man, and you're out of control. And it
(09:22):
was gonna be a long suspension, and he got five
games today for it. The explanation from NBA executive vice
president Joe Dumars he was suspended four quote forcibly grabbing
Rudy Gobert around the neck, escalating an on court altercation,
and grabbing Gobert in an unsportsmanlike and dangerous manner. Now
(09:42):
I like that. They said it's an unsportsmanlike manner, which
you like. There was a sportsman like way you could
grab him in a fight. Ah, this is kind of
a sportsman like. So we're gonna leave that part out
of it. Just talk about the day now. But this
was unsportsman like how you grabb Rudy Gobert.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
Well, it's a good statement, man, It gets it all.
And there are other other than just you know, cutting
to the chase and saying for being an idiot. I
think they really covered it well. Could have saved themselves
some ink in terms of how they phrased it. But
you know, five seemed light to me, really did. And
(10:15):
we we got guys that get suspended, you know, a
game or two here and there for far less than
what we saw there. I mean that was that was
a full on waiting for the referee to come over
and you know, lift the arm three times to change
the the heavyweight title. I mean that was full on
MMA or WWE kind of stuff going on in five games. Yeah,
(10:40):
it's what seven hundred sixty seven or thereabouts. I think
was the estimate of how much money he's gonna lose.
I think he got off light. Considering the history of
what you've got with Draymond Green, this is one where
normally it's a well you've got a cumulative effect. Did
they just take this as an isolated incident. Now, you know,
see I see opposite. I see I see it different
(11:02):
from you. I see it as it's the beginning.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Of the season, and maybe because it's an n season
tournament game, things were different. We got govern this different.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
Well, we knew it was gonna be a little more
intense because it was an in season tournament game.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
I'm thinking twenty games, yeah, but it was an in
season tournament games. Oh, five games, five games no. I
kind of see this as a pretty good message because
it's early in the season and saying it needed to
be a long suspension. I expected the NBA to say, oh,
we don't want to take on Draymond Green, and it
would be a one or two game deal, and that's
what they would do because it's so early in the season.
(11:37):
But here they are, right off the bat. Five games.
I think that gets everybody's attention. I think this five
game suspension will hopefully get his attention. They also said
the reason for the five games is because of his history,
which he's had four other times where he's been suspended
in his career in the last seven years. So every
other year you get a suspension for him basically, But
(11:58):
now we're talking about three in the calendar year. So yeah,
the next one for Draymond Green is gonna be ten games,
maybe more, maybe twelve or fifteen. It's gonna be a
bigger deal. I actually, I actually was okay with it
five games. I thought, huh, that's pretty good. That's an attention.
It seemed right to me when it came out for
five games.
Speaker 5 (12:14):
You know, one of the things, you know, you make
your notes for the show and talking it out. I
did write, and you know, was there a consideration that
none of his teammates tried to help him, so it
was a less egregious act.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
Well, I don't think it looks you can't blame a
guy because, hey, he's not well liked on the team,
so wow, we don't have anybody going to help him.
You can't blame a guy for that. Hey, if you
had just made more friends, maybe this would have been easier. Hey,
I bet Rudy Gobert he doesn't thank the crew after
every game. He doesn't get on social media and thank everybody. Hey,
(12:47):
great game tonight, guys, thank you, thank you, Carl Anthony Towns,
thank you, thank you. I bet he doesn't do that.
Thank you. Wally Serbiak for all you've done for the
Timberwolves franchise. He doesn't do that.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
I bet I did appreciate his postgame yesterday and going
notice he tried to get himself kicked out because Steph
wasn't playing.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Yeah, it's like it's.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
Like ten of these guys want to play without Steph.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Yeah, it's like he's gotten kicked out again. Like the
last seven times Steph Curry has missed a game, he's
gotten kicked out of six of them. Like, yeah, I
don't want to stay around for very long either, So
I'm good. I'm gonna leave.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
Well, Steph's still court sided. It's not like you guys
are going out to dinner together.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Just just hang I'll shower, I'll change, I'll be ready
to go right after the game.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
Right a buzzer sounds, I'll have the car gassed up
and I will be ready to.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Be Sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio App.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
I just want to thank Jason Smith. I'd like to
thank Mike Harmon. I'd like to thank Alex Tyshert and
above all else Brian Finley, No, we can do it
out the last one.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
And I'd like to thank the Lakers for being down almost.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
Twenty certainly they got them right where they want him.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Speaking of early, so earlier today, what like, what is happening?
What's going on? What are people doing to Jason? What
are they doing to my guy, Jason Smith? So earlier today,
I filled in on AM five seventy here at Los
Angeles with Fred Rogan, the Dean of Los Angeles. And afterwards,
because I'm a guest, they asked me to fill I
thanked the crew for a big day. I thank the crew,
(14:26):
And now everybody's upset that I don't thank the crew
on every night here on the show. So let me
say thank you to Alex tischert thank you to Justin Frosburg,
Thank you to Brian Finley who barbecues the updates every
single night. Thank you everybody editing you.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Cut out that for a second when you were thanking me, I.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Would say, I need to need to say my name again.
Speaker 5 (14:49):
Say my name.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Thank you to Alex Tyshirt for and to get in
into detail here for quick second. Thank you to Alex
Tischer because I understand that uh playing Fortnite and recording
his automate podcast. The show kind of runs it in
the same time as that, so I appreciate you putting
that to the back burner to actually get the show
on the air.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
You're very welcome, Jason.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
I want I want to want to thank you and
and Justin. I want to thank you for coming in
at least two out of five nights every week in
the fall during football season. That's it's a really big
I know you have other stuff going on in the charges,
but you.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
Must be looking at your schedule.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Thank you. Thank you for those two out of five
nights coming in and working. Thank you. I appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (15:30):
Oh and then he does the dot dot dot and
work Wow, here we go.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Goodness Yeah, so and and and thank you Mike Harmon
for for everything. Thank you for helping me navigate my
compliance training yesterday on the internet. Thank you very much for.
Speaker 5 (15:49):
That solid as a rock.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
I am thank you ahead of time for the pizza
tomorrow night we're going to have.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
So you should thank me for driving in the rain today.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
And thank you that was really good in the ring.
Was it raining really hard? Are you driving in you
wouldn't know. No, no, because I saw the rain, I said, no,
I'm gonna do the show from home.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
Well, it was actually bad enough by me that in
southern California. For the nationwide audience, everything crawls to a
halt and it gets really ugly. You'll see a lot
of video of maybe some low speed traffic chases that
mix in with all of the accidents. They actually canceled
my daughter's soccer workout tonight, which never happens. They're the
(16:26):
most stubborn. It's like when I was growing up in
Chicago's like we canceled for snow. No, get on the bus,
you get there, when you get there, Okay, same thing here.
They never canceled. It was like, yeah, the field is
the wordline looked like it really when aig o, Well.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
I found off under there, I tell you. And speaking
of low speed chases, I want to make that segue.
The Lakers are losing by twelve to the Sacramento Kings
a couple minutes ago before halftime sixty five fifty three,
though Lebron has just hit a three to make it
a twelve point game. Lakers playing second night of back
to backs, and this is not an in season tournament
(17:09):
game for the Lakers, so I expect them to lose
by thirty I mean, really, what I mean if you
don't have the extra juice, now, this is what you
open the door to the excitement of the in season tournament.
If you're Adam Silver, how do you expect these teams
to just go back to normal the next night? The
Lakers had the incredible excitement and playing the Grizzlies of
last night's big win, thirty point win. I think the
(17:29):
Lakers pregame show was four hours long in getting ready
for that game. And now here they are at first
seed overall in the in season tournament. How can they
come back the next night just play a regular season game?
Come on here. That's insulting the Lakers to do that.
Speaker 6 (17:43):
Now.
Speaker 5 (17:43):
On the plus side, the players on the team that
win the inn season Tournament championship they get a cool
five hundred g So, I mean there is some incentive,
even even when you're getting a contract worth millions. In
a lot of cases, the guys at the end the
bench don't so five hundred thousand dollars into stuffing to sneeze.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
We're doing it for the trophy. Mike well, I mean
you want.
Speaker 5 (18:07):
To hang another banner. You're looking to put number eighteen
up there or seventeen and a half, however you want
to do it.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
And every member of a winning team gets an Armatron
rotch courtesy of Armatron. Oh, the brand new time keeping
piece that everybody's going to wad, Plus an extra special
NBA hat presented by Carnation Milk. You get a nice
looking NBA hat with a Carnation logo on the back.
Ah for every member of a winning team. That's the
swag bag you get for the end season, NBA Jason.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
If the winner got McDonald's for Life, you'd be into this.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
Dude, are you kidding? I'd be playing in this. The
Lakers will find a way to get me on the floor.
Give it to me, man, I'm gonna make it dude,
but you're five night. Just give it to me. I
could get free Big Max for life. You give me
that ball and you get out of my way. Screw you.
Austin Reeves, I'm the new Captain America and I would
just start I would just start shoot. I'd be the
guy like shooting and turning away, going it's going, it's going,
(19:00):
It's going. I did everything. Man, you put the right
motivation in front of me. I do it. I'll tell
you now, I'm thinking, is there a way you can
get free McDonald's the rest of my life? There?
Speaker 5 (19:10):
Wall, I mean there's you know, you can stage in
an incident with you know, coffee, other things like tell
me what I won't take you. I won't take the
the the dollars. But you know what if you give
me the never ending gift.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
Card, Okay, I'll be like, look like Cray America. Sure,
uh the Jason Smiths with Mike Carmen lifethtirect dot com
studios direct dot com will help you get there, an
unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road has a protection
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirect dot com is
the way tire buying should be. So we'll lot more
NBA on the way. But another big nugget dropped today
(19:50):
in the never Ending Aaron Rodgers saga every day he's
coming back, He's coming back soon, He's coming back soon.
He's coming back soon. He said earlier this week. Hey,
maybe mid December is what his target comeback date is
going to be, which suddenly, wait a minute, that's not
even Christmas Eve, that's maybe a week or two earlier.
Is he gonna come back? Will there be time? Today?
(20:13):
Jets head coach Robert Sala, while he's still Jets head coach,
was asked about Aaron Rodgers timeline, and hey, is Aaron
Rodgers really gonna come back to play? And here's what
the Jets had the current Jets head coach because maybe
in a few weeks he won't be. But what the
current Jets head coach had to say about Aaron Rodgers
and his return, Oh, I thought he had the Robert Salason.
(20:35):
Sala said, if Aaron Rodgers wants to play, he'll play.
That's it. If Rogers wants to play, he'll play. Like
I'm not making this decision. Joe Douglas isn't making this decision. No, no,
no no. If if Aaron Rodgers wants to play, he
will play.
Speaker 5 (20:54):
So you know, it was like a logical way to
run something.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
Yeah, well listen, at this point, who would I'd rather
have making decisions with the Jets, Robert Sala or Aaron Rodgers.
I'd rather have Aaron Rodgers because I've seen Robert Sla
make decisions. And this is where we are. Despite the
fact we have a talented roster, we're still not winning.
So I think, yes, I would rather have Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 5 (21:17):
I get that it's just more the you know oftentimes
in sports, and we look at the larger picture and say,
all right, what's our end game here, what's our ceiling?
And do we have to protect the player from himself
and thereby protect ourselves from the players bravado and you know,
(21:37):
sense of invincibility. And I get it. Rogers have been
pretty open about, you know, the brokenness he felt and
sadness he felt, you know, in the injury and the
recovery and the rehab process. I get that that doesn't
mean you acquiesce altogether. And I want like fifteen doctors
to look at him if I'm the Jets, because behind
(21:59):
that offensive line, how many snaps are we talking before
that first hit of weight? Is he getting up? So
like watching Anthony Davis when he falls down in a
Laker game, how long does it.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Take for him to get up? He's gonna go to
the locker room that he's gonna come.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
Back, like a tournament game or a non tournament game.
Speaker 5 (22:16):
You know what, For the sake of this argument, let's
go non tournament game runs.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
Then he's never getting up.
Speaker 5 (22:22):
Yeah. So that's it for Aaron Rodgers. It's it's that
fear of all right, whatever this cure and rehab processes,
the surgery or extent of the injury, whatever you want
to believe in that continuum between the day he got
hurt and left the field to where he is now.
(22:42):
Are we buying that he's gonna be able to take
a normal hit from a linebacker. I don't know that.
I am, well, a couple of steps here and there
and winging the ball fifty yards. I never questioned the
man's arm strength, or his velocity or any of that stuff.
But mobility has long been his playing card to get
over the top, right, extending plays, waiting for a break
(23:05):
in the defense, and then being able to zip the
ball in. Is that gonna be there? Because if that's not,
I might as well bring Dan Marino out of retirement.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
Wow with Isotona gloves throwing the ball in the winning Uh.
Speaker 5 (23:18):
Never throw a pass A bad pass either, always the
receiver's fault.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
Aaron Rodgers wants to keep playing, and I know that
you get caught up in the emotion of wanting to
play for your new team and not feeling you're not contributing,
and maybe he would be rushed back. But I gotta
think there's enough doctors. There's enough, because you know, he's
not gonna not talk to the doctors that he likes,
you know, I mean, I mean, who knows he talks
to doctors that actually you know, have degrees. But you
know there's gonna be doctors he talks to. He's gonna
(23:44):
go very in depth before he makes this decision, right,
So I don't worry about that so much as much
as I go. People aren't seeing the forest through the
trees here. If Aaron Rodgers is gonna come back in
mid December, the Jets have to be in it. The
Jets aren't gonna be in it in mid December. Aaron
Rodgers isn't gonna come back because he's not gonna risk
(24:04):
coming back and playing when the Jets are out of
the playoff race. And the Jets are gonna be out
of the playoff race, they're basically almost out now. They'll
be out completely if they lose to the Bills on Sunday,
which is likely gonna happen because they can't score points.
They just can't do it. If they can't beat the Raiders,
who's staking starting a rookie quarterback, you're gonna beat the Bills. No,
(24:26):
it's not gonna happen. And they're gonna be four and six.
They're not a team that's gonna go on a run
and win four in a row. And Rogers is coming
back and suddenly it looks great. The Jets stink they're
gonna be out of the race. By the time you
get to middle December, they're gonna be five and eight.
Let's say the earliest he comes back is week fourteen,
right when he's got four games left. Right, that's the
earliest he could possibly come back. They're gonna be five
(24:48):
and eight by then because the schedule is Buffalo, Miami,
then they have Atlanta and Houston. I'll give the Jets
winning one of those games now, probably not against Buffalo,
not against Miami.
Speaker 4 (24:59):
Probably I'll give.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
Them either Atlanta or Houston, because you never know rookie
quarterback CJ. Stroud what happens to him in four weeks.
As great as he is, and he's the MVP of
the league right now, but Atlanta, you don't know where
they're gonna be, so that's the one I'm looking at.
But I'll say they're five and eight. Is he coming
back at their five and eight?
Speaker 6 (25:15):
No?
Speaker 1 (25:15):
I mean I know you can say, oh, but they
can win the laugh right, No, he's not, and go
nine to eight and maybe get it. No, so everybody's
missing that part of it. Rogers isn't gonna come back
because the Jets aren't gonna be in It's he's throwing
it out there and holding it open that I can
come back. I can come back. And he's even saying
earlier and earlier to tell the Jets just get together
and focus and just do it so I can come back.
(25:37):
And he's trying to help them say, just you don't
have to hold on as long as you think I
will come back and save everything, you know, because of
the kind of the complex he has it, I'm the greatest.
But he's doing all of this tome just to But
the Jets aren't gonna survive that. If they couldn't survive
now against teams where they should have been beating, you're
talking about losing two teams that were AWFULGA. The Las
Vegas Raiders had punted on their season, right. The Patriots
(25:59):
are abs absolutely flat out awful. I mean, you're talking
about losing some games here. You scratch yourd and go,
what the hell, man, how did they do that? He's
not coming back because the Jets are gonna be out
of it, and then he's gonna say, hey, maybe it's
right for me to come back next year. I mean,
it'll be an easiish decision for him, admit where it
may wind up being, Hey, I don't feel quite ready
(26:20):
Week fourteen. Let's see if the Jets win again. I
don't feel quite ready Week fifteen. Okay, wait a minute.
If the Jets record is there, then I can say, hey,
I'm coming back. But he really is going to wait
and see, and it's not gonna be about his health.
It's gonna be where are the Jets when he's ready
to come back and they're gonna be out of the
playoff chase. It's how it's gonna be.
Speaker 5 (26:36):
You know me. I like the potential for chaos in
between the white lines and Aaron Rodgers getting back on
the field. It gives you hope, which means I get
one of those holiday holiday holiday gifts.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Here.
Speaker 5 (26:48):
You may get the birthday gift that comes a week
or too late by him getting back on the field.
For me, I watch your hope he's get dashed.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
He's good for five snaps, Mike.
Speaker 5 (26:59):
Well, I mean, do we say at the over under
at six and a half that they run the ball
a couple of times and he's just got a couple
of quickouts.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
We gotta go.
Speaker 5 (27:05):
We can have a lot longer tenure the second time
under center.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
Yeah, first five plays will all be runs just to
get past that number. Why is he a den will
start throwing the foot? Why is the long snapper in?
Speaker 2 (27:16):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
Nobody better than to discuss the Clippers with Harden, the
Sixers without Harden, Draymond getting a five game suspension, and
the ascension of the New York Knicks and Julius Randall.
It is Fox Sports One NBA insider host of the
On the Ball Podcast. It is Rick Buker. Rick. What's happening, buddy?
Speaker 6 (27:43):
Gentlemen? Gentlemen, gentlemen, I'm watching Keegan Murray personally try to
give the Lakers a chance in this game. But I
don't think I don't think even he can pull that off,
and so we get we get a little excitement here
at the end. But uh yeah, other than that, been
interesting times. Interesting times, I mean, Rick.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
I mean, I look at this game for the Lakers,
and of course they're going to have a bad night tonight.
You don't have the you don't have the normal jump
you get from playing an in season tournament game. How
do you go the high level of the n season
tournament game last night against the Grizzlies with all kinds
of steaks out there, and you come back for some
(28:28):
candy regular season game the next night. You can't expect
the Lakers to do that, nor any team should you
expect to do that.
Speaker 6 (28:34):
It's so it's so true. I think it's actually when
you miss out on the like the the garish, the
the eyeball searing court, there's something that kind of just
gets your juiced up. When you're you're blinded, right, You
just you can't quite see, so you just can get
angry and you play hard and you have no idea
(28:55):
where you're going, but it makes it exciting. And then
once you take that off, it's sort of like, you
know what, I'm not feeling the pain behind my orbital
socket the same way. I think I'm just gonna I
think I'm gonna take it easy tonight. So I think
there's there's definitely that I actually I don't I don't
have a problem against the N Season Tournament, to be
honest with you. I just wish that they would and
(29:18):
maybe maybe this is why they did it the way
they did it. I wish that they would just like, Okay,
for the next three weeks, we're gonna play the N
Season Tournament, like these are all these games part of
the regular season, but it's for the N Season Tournament.
That's what we're doing. I think the reason that they
sprinkled them in is because they didn't want to find
(29:39):
out right away that nobody gives a rats ask about
the N Season Tournament, like wrigle it in and then
you can't write, you can't tell. And then maybe when
we get to the championship game there will be some
indication that the teams and fans and everybody cares. But
I don't know. I'm outside of the court being different.
(30:00):
It's been really hard for me to distinguish, like what
an in season, in season tournament game is and what
is a regular season game. Maybe you guys have detected
something something else, but.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
It's a hard court besides the garage the garage court
that you refer to. Look, it's gonna be talked about
this in the beginning of the season. Make it mean something.
Stop the regular season and for the yeah, for the
next tooth, whatever it's gonna be. We're playing the tournament.
We're giving away a big trophy. Here's the big check
for everybody. Everybody gets whatever it is. Make it really
(30:34):
worth something. So hey, man, the NBA is playing their
in season turn but instead it's like, oh tonight's the
court shows it that way, and the social media accounts say,
it's a game in season tournament. What do you do? Like,
what are you doing?
Speaker 6 (30:45):
Right? It's Tuesday, is a Tuesday, Tuesday? Okay, Tuesday, So
today's okay, okay, right from yeah Thursday. Oh no, it's
not an in season tournament. Okay, uh oh Friday, okay, Friday.
It's like, I don't know. Look, anytime you introduce something new,
there's going to be growing pains. And I get where
(31:05):
they want to make the regular season more regular season
games matter. I think they've done a great job in
terms of the the end, the playing in games that
obviously has stopped the tanking at the end of the year,
and they're not you know, people are like, they should
only play sixty games whatever. It's like, Yeah, that would
(31:27):
be a solution. It would also be a huge chunk
of revenue that you're giving up. And so I honestly
don't see where they're going to change the number of
games that they play in a year anytime soon. They're
going to try to find other ways to make all
of them matter, and they just they haven't figured it
(31:49):
out for this part of the season quite yet.
Speaker 5 (31:52):
And then you have the thought of whether Netflix decides
to jump in with the giant pile of money that's
always the next entry to this. And you know how
difficult it is to try to get things together when
you know it's a first generation. Uh we've seen this
act with James Harden before and now, uh, well, the
losses are mounting. Ty Lou is aging rapidly, Kawha Leonard
(32:14):
is looking like he's he's ready to, Uh, I don't know,
go hulk a mania in the eighties on the rest
of his squad. How much time do we give this
before we call it a failure.
Speaker 6 (32:28):
I'm glad that you noticed that the aging of tylu
My god, has he gone great? He's gone gray faster
than some president.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Oh he's like that president. He's like when you saw
Obama right before and then I was like, oh wow,
look at that.
Speaker 6 (32:41):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I think George Bush went to
the same thing, like he was oh yeah, he was
dark haired, and then he was he was old silver
fox by the time he got done with his term.
And uh, and we're seeing we're seeing the snow gather
upstairs on ty Lou, that's for sure. I here's the question,
(33:01):
like you said, when when do we decide that the
experiment has failed? Like, I don't know how many people
came into it thinking that the experiment was going to succeed.
And then if we're going to talk about it succeeding,
were we really thinking that they were going to be
a championship caliber team, that adding James was going to
(33:23):
make them better than the Denver Nuggets or the Boston
Celtics or yeah. I just you know, we can go
down the line. I think this is a great issue,
and I don't want to put it all on James
because I don't know that there would have been anything
dramatically different with this team if they hadn't made the
deal for Harden. But in making the deal and having
(33:47):
four guys that you have to play the kind of
minutes that you have to play when they're they're caliber,
now you have less minutes for the energy guys and
the worker bees and and those are an important part
of any successful winning team is you need those guys
who can play and affect the game without the ball. Well,
(34:08):
can we say that about Kawhi Leonard? We could in
his heyday because he was really good defensively. He doesn't
put the same energy and effort at the end of
the floor. James Harden can't say the same. Russ Westbrook
can't say the same. Paul George is really the only
player that I can look at and go, you know what.
He still has times where he looks like a great player.
(34:31):
The other three guys look like good players. And so
I think our expectation is because of the names and
what they've accomplished in their careers, that these are four
great players. And they think that there are four great players.
And when you're not great, you have to do the
little things. You have to execute you have to share
(34:53):
the ball, you have to be efficient, you have to
follow a plan. You defensively have to be on a string.
And these guys think they're like they can out talent people,
and they don't have the talent to do that at
this point. So what they're going through right now as
a result of they had a certain way of playing,
they've gotten comfortable with it. They had, you know, essentially
(35:16):
the same team back from last year, and they had
a way of playing. And then you bring James in,
and James is you know, as he told us coming in,
I am not a system player. I am the system.
So now you've got everybody trying to acclimate to a
new system that doesn't necessarily work. And you don't have
(35:38):
other guys who necessarily look at themselves as system players.
You can only have like you got to have a hierarchy.
Not everybody can be at the top of the organizational chart.
And that's the way the Clippers not only are built
right now, but that's the way that they think of themselves.
And it just you know, whether it's having four presidents
(36:01):
or no president and for vice president, how do you
want to ever want to look at it? So those
those kinds of corporations generally don't get a whole lot done.
And that's what I would say the Clippers are.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
Rick.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
Let me ask the quick obvious follow up to this,
because we could put it out of Wikipedia. How would
you describe James Harden's shape?
Speaker 6 (36:24):
Oh? God, you know it's it's the have you ever
seen in smoking lounges you have like a leather couch. Okay,
in the kind of overstuffed leather couch where every every
everything has sort of a curvature to it, and it's
(36:46):
a little soft and pillowy, and it's very comfortable. It's
like buttery soft. Like I'm sitting on I have a
little leather coach. The couch in my in my studio,
I'm sitting on one right now. The couch, my couch
right now feels like James Harden.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Look good luck putting that on Wikipedia.
Speaker 5 (37:13):
Yeah, well, you know what you I.
Speaker 6 (37:16):
Did my power rankings for Fox sports dot Com this week.
My lead was the Philadelphia The Philadelphia seventy six ers
have soared been sword like a hot air balloon. Thence
cutting loose the human sandbag that is James hardened.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
So if he's not a couch.
Speaker 5 (37:41):
If he's not a couch, he's literally a sand bag.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (37:47):
Oh that's an image right there. You really paid a
picture there, Rick Bu.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
We're gonna we're gonna clip this off Rick, and we're
gonna send it to Tylo and then we're gonna videotape
him opening it and listening to it and watch him
a as he's actually watching and see the gray hairs
just grow even more.
Speaker 6 (38:05):
I feel I do feel bad for Tyleru. I think
he's a very very good coach. I do question, you know,
I've asked people. I don't know that he's been great
with these stars at holding them accountable. I think the
best coaching that ty did was when Kawhi and PG
(38:26):
were hurt and the and the and the Clippers are
still winning. Remember when they went to the Western Conference
finals with Kauhi out and and I think a big
part was that Tye was comfortable making demands and holding
the line with the complimentary players. And whether it's still
kind of a you know, a a result residual effect
(38:52):
of not being a star player as a head coach,
as being that guy that Alan Iverson stepped over like
that he just does and for whatever reason, doesn't feel
like he can go at these guys the same way
that that's a missing part of this. And so I
think one of the other issues that they have here
(39:13):
is they may have a little bit of a mismatch
between the coach and all that star power, and maybe
nobody else could get it done either. But I'm gonna
put a little bit on his plate as much as
I respect him as a coach, because I do not
think that those guys have been held accountable to the
(39:33):
level that they need to be.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
Rick. At some point, does Kawhi Leonard say something? Does
he step up or whether it's public behind closed doors
and go, hey, we've been trying this man for a while. Nothing,
it's working. We've been trying this for a long time.
Or does does he try to get everybody in line.
Is there something that could come a bolt out of
the blue something like that.
Speaker 6 (39:54):
Well, he kind of built this thing. I mean really,
they've they've done his bidding to this point in terms
of how they've built this team, the core of this team,
and uh, you know, whether it's bringing Russ in, he
signed off on that, bringing James in, he signed off
on that. And I think honestly, the real question for
me is because you got you know, I don't. Everybody's like, oh, hey,
(40:18):
the Clippers. We know what's gonna happen with the Clippers.
Kawhi and Paul George are you know, potential free agents?
And my first thought was where are they going to go? Like,
if I'm the Clippers, the question for me is not
can I keep Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. The question
for me is the Clippers is do I want to
keep Paul George and Kawhi Leonard? And and if so,
(40:42):
at what price? Because to your point, like it hasn't
worked to this point, do I want to spend the
next three four years still chasing the same dragon that
I chased for the last three four years with these eyes,
I mean, they've had a they've had a pretty good
(41:02):
runway to try to make something happen. And I know
how I felt when they first put it together. I
was like, hey, wow, this is like fun of the
Clippers could be meaningful and but it has not worked.
And so the real question I have is do you know,
do you do you stay with it? Or you do
you tear the band aid off and go? You know
what we thought it was gonna work. We went and
(41:23):
got guys that would never be Clippers as free agents before.
But we're gonna have to find another way because this,
this formula, this blueprint, did not work.
Speaker 1 (41:33):
He's on Twitter at Rick Buker, That is at Rick Buker,
Fox Sports One Inside to check out the On the
Ball podcast. On the Ball Podcast, your new one, Julius
Randall the Resurgence. What what do you got coming up?
Speaker 6 (41:46):
I got I got a few other things I got
to get to first. So yeah, that's somewhere on the list.
I just uh, I can't quite see that far down,
all right. I'll let you know when it when it,
when it comes into view?
Speaker 1 (42:01):
Is it?
Speaker 5 (42:01):
Draymond and Professional Wrestling first to know.
Speaker 1 (42:05):
Thanks and by Drake, We'll talk to you next week.
