Let's get this parties.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
Greadies and welcome in our four of the program Fox
Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with Me Mike Harmon

(00:52):
installers tirerac dot com. The way tire buying should be.
The first three hours flew absolutely buy so quickly. And
now we hear in the final hour Rich pondering the
nap he'll take before he's on air again. I'm seven
to sixty down there in San Diego. We're always blessed
when he joins us here on Fox Sports Radio it's

(01:13):
a lot of fun. So it's good having you in Rich.
We've covered a lot of ground tonight, the coaching carousel
as it were. You guys have a new manager down
there in San Diego to talk about tomorrow morning, so
that's kind of a big deal.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
Yeah, Mike Schildt, he was a special advisor to the
former I guess you would say owner of the San
Diego Padres, Peter Sidler, who just passed away last week.

Speaker 6 (01:41):
You know.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
So it's a really turbulent couple of weeks for the Padres.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Where you already had a very kind of topsy turvy
end of the season with a lot of decisions.

Speaker 6 (01:52):
Yeah, no question about it.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
I mean, if anybody cares or pays attention to baseball,
they know that the Padres in the preseasonally into the
twenty twenty three season, had one of the better rosters
on paper, and they had World Series odds that were
either in the top three or the top four, depending
on what books you looked at. And it just all
came unraveled, and it was because of cultural issues, you know,

(02:18):
headbutting between the general manager and president of baseball operations
and the manager at the field level and it's and
it's those sort of things that we know can be
done doing for a lot of different franchises in a
lot of different leagues. You know, it's happening in the NFL,
and we're starting to see the names go by on
the ticker Matt Canada, Ken Dorsey, Josh McDaniels like there.

(02:42):
There are going to be more sacrifices as we continue
on our path here.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
No, and that's the process as it goes, and we'll
see how many more in season dismissals we have. Certainly
we anticipate what six to seven, six to eight, maybe more,
maybe maybe more coaches that get dismissed sport. It's all
said and done, the wildcard and it all being Belichick,
we went through that a little earlier. You can find
the podcast in about an hour's time wherever you download

(03:08):
your audio, grab it, download it, give it five stars.
And it's the holiday season rich. You know what I
always say. You can make greeting cards pretty cheaply, put
a picture of yourself and your dog on there, and
then inside you put the link to where they can
download maybe a QR code. Go get the iHeartRadio app.
It's a gift three hundred and sixty five days a year,

(03:28):
twenty four to seven, Fox Sports Radio podcast, all the
music stations. I'm partial to the iHeart Broadway Station. I'm
a musical kind of guy. No, you really, it's what
I do.

Speaker 6 (03:40):
In fact, some people say you're the music man.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
No, I appreciate that, nicely done.

Speaker 4 (03:44):
I do celebrate the works of Hugh Jackman, whether he's
Wolverine or the music Man. Last week going to see
Queen and Adam Lambert, I'll celebrate them all. That's what
I do. But that's how we go through. So that's
the gift. And add the cost of a stamp and
Rich taking care of your shopping list. Wow wow, I
got you done and out for about fifty to sixty bucks,

(04:07):
depending on how big your Christmas card list is.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
And that's it. And if you do it electronically, it's
even cheaper.

Speaker 6 (04:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Yeah, here I put the link in the email that
I sent you with a picture of me and the dog.

Speaker 6 (04:21):
Yeah yeah. And all you gotta do is just pay
for your WiFi that month. That's it.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
That's all the gift that keeps on giving. How about that?

Speaker 4 (04:29):
He's Rich Hornberger in for Jason. It's been at Ornberger
where you find him on Twitter, you hear him here.
Fox Sports Radio Saturdays countdown to kick off three hours
before kickoff? What is that six to nine Pacific? Yes, yes, sir,
if I'm doing my math correctly. And then obviously we've
got Red Zone Radio starting at ten am for four
hours you alongside Steve Hartman San Diego State doing television

(04:53):
down in San Diego and mornings on seven sixty Lean
and Mean with the program. You guys have been onsen
fun to follow you guys a little bit in your socials.
As that's gone on, I figure I need to get
on board that train so I too can be the
man of many jobs. In the interim, we've got the

(05:13):
odds to win the NLMVP updated.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
After last night.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
We're talking about, you know, trying to get ourselves to
the winners circles. How much the coaching changes will matter, Well,
what we do know is week to week the EBB
and flow and betting sentimentalities and leans do change on
a dime. You've watched it, certainly with the college football
season and watching the wild point point spread, swings and

(05:41):
totals game the game with some of these squads. But
after last night's win twenty one to seventeen over the
Kansas City Chiefs. Jalen Hurts now your leader in the
clubhouse at plus two point fifty in most of your sportsbooks.
Lamar Jackson's second at either plus three fifty or plus

(06:02):
four hundred, followed by Mahomes, followed by tu and then
right now sitting in the five spot. Get this CJ.
Strouds yep, as he should be either. Ben MGM's got
him at plus fourteen hundred. Right two weeks ago, he
was one hundred to one. Now he's down to fourteen
to one or eighteen to one, depending on your shopping.

Speaker 5 (06:24):
And I've been beating this drum for a long time,
so again, I understand a lot of people. They really
do rely on stats and the opinions of others. And
I'm in the captain's chair, like you said, for Red
Zone Radio. And there have been a lot of ten
am starts for Texans games because they're kind of buried

(06:45):
in amid You know a lot of the other teams
that aren't going to get the shine of a lighter
afternoon slate on the West coast or early evening slate
on the East coast. You know or primetime. Right, So,
I've watched a lot of Texans games and I'm paying
close attention CJ. Stroud early in the season, and after
about three games, I was telling everybody who had listened

(07:06):
to me, this dude's special, like beyond special. In fact,
I bet you if you went through my Twitter timeline,
you can find the first CJ. Stroud tweet, maybe even
as early as Week two of the NFL. Yeah, I
think it just said Wow, I'm I'm just so impressed
with how he's been able to handle the situation he's

(07:26):
been dealt. Look, this is not a very talented team,
regardless of what people are going to tell you. And
because I'm not saying they're lying, because I think this
roster is playing a lot better than a lot of
people anticipated, they're starting to talk now about how much
talent is around CJ.

Speaker 6 (07:42):
Stroud.

Speaker 5 (07:43):
You couldn't find a single person who would say I've
had about the Houston Texans in the preseason, but now
everybody's touting how much talent he has around.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
We on the iWatch Reflex podcast touted the receivers, but
that was it, right, Tank Dell, He's gonna be fast,
how quickly he acclimates, no idea, Nico Collins.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Will he be healthy? I don't know.

Speaker 4 (08:03):
Dalton Schultz coming over from the Cowboys, rookie quarterback, young
quarterback's best friend, Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
Yeah, Dalton Schultz, I thought would actually be getting fed
more this time. I agree in the preseason because I
was thinking, like, well, of course he's going to be
finding his tight end, but he doesn't need to because
he's that good. He can connect with his receivers downfield.
He's surveying the whole field. He's using Schultz appropriately like
a more veteran quarterback in his situation would use him.

(08:32):
He's using him when he needs him, as as a
as you know, a checkdown, as as a second or
a third read on a route tree.

Speaker 6 (08:41):
This guy has otherworldly talent.

Speaker 5 (08:44):
It's special, it's mahomes esque, and nobody's paying attention to
it because again, his games are buried in the ten
am slate on the on the West coast, one pm
slate on the East coast. But if you turn on
a Texans game, and I encourage everybody to do this
and don't just wait for a primetime appointment, I'm not
even sure if they haven't.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Well, they just had Week thirteen flexed.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
It's the first flex announcement that we've gotten from the NFL.
The game against Denver for Week thirteen has been flexed
to the late afternoon slot. I love it, though not
an evening slot, but the four h five, four fifteen
whatever that kickoff actually becomes.

Speaker 5 (09:19):
But just get more eyes on this too, because he
really knows what he's doing. And Demiko Ryans I want
to give credit to him as well, because you don't
have a quarterback having the sort of success he's having
unless you're able to delegate responsibility to your offensive coordinator.
And Bobby Slowick is doing an excellent job with CJ. Stroud,

(09:40):
So they've got a good team of coaches down there.
They've got a lot of players around CJ. Stroud who
can match his abilities, which at very least that's a
bare minimum you should be able to do to sort
of harness the power of the Ferrari. Just don't screw
it up right, you know, take it easy around the
corners and tank Dell, Nico Collins and some of the other.

Speaker 6 (10:00):
Put Noah Brown, some of the other.

Speaker 5 (10:02):
Players stuck up on the radar. Yeah, oh my gosh,
it's just been unbelievable. And these were relatively anonymous names
this preseason. So yeah, if we're talking value, CJ.

Speaker 6 (10:12):
Stroud has my vote.

Speaker 4 (10:13):
Yeah, rich As we look at this squad and we'll
stay here with the Texans and slow it. He comes
over from the forty nine ers passing game coordinator. But
you having played in the league as an offensive lineman,
and you know what it can be like when the
turnstile starts moving. Guys can't stay healthy, Guys in and
out of the lineups even in game. And the Texas

(10:35):
were dealing with all of that yet Slowick and Stroud,
I mean, it didn't change how they approached it right,
And that was the thing I think was to me
from you know, maybe you're jumping off point Week two,
week three in watching this guy as part of my
four box on my TV, was always they don't have

(10:55):
any of their starters playing now on the offensive line.
They're running game has been disastrous. Now Devin Singletary, you
know he formally of of your Buffalo Bills and uh
and and now making his name there taken over for
Damian Peers, who's been banged up a little bit all
of a sudden. I got a little bit of a
balance there, but they were doing it with no running

(11:18):
attack at all and still being able to find his
way and elude. And it really just an amazing run
if you really kind of take it from that part
of it too, with you know where you plied your
trade for six years in the league.

Speaker 5 (11:33):
Well, well, what I like to do, right is when
it comes to making them well I shouldn't say that
when it comes to deciding whether a quarterback is talented,
start making comparison. Start start saying if I took him
and put him there, would.

Speaker 6 (11:51):
It be better or worse?

Speaker 5 (11:52):
Right, So, brock Party, he goes through a three game
stretch where he's missing his left tackle and he's he's
got bleak strain on one of the best running backs
in the game, and he's got Debo out for a
couple of weeks too, and everybody gets healthier in the
bye week, and it looks like a different team on
the other side of the bye week. I actually don't
think brock Party was as responsible for the three game

(12:13):
losing streak that everybody wanted to label him with.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
Because remember the first one, the kicker missed an easy
shot in front of his friends and family that assembled.

Speaker 5 (12:20):
Jake Moody, right, Yeah, that was that was a I
mean he just he yanked it and and it happens,
you know, But but it was it was Purdy who
got them in field goal position. Could have got them
a closer look, maybe, But I digress. The point is
you have Purdy where not everything's perfect and things starts
getting sideways a little bit. There is no such thing

(12:43):
as perfect in Houston right now. That's a world of
imperfection that this player is making sense of.

Speaker 6 (12:50):
So if you took c. J.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
Stroud and his talent and his ability to overcome a
lot of the early season obstacles you just mentioned, injuries
at running back, injuries up run on the offensive line,
a non existent running game for a portion this season,
and you put c. J. Stroud in that Niners offense,
I mean that's on jet fuel.

Speaker 6 (13:09):
Now you take CJ.

Speaker 5 (13:10):
Stroud and you put him in Buffalo, I mean, the
Bills are going to be on top of the AFC.
There's no question in my mind, because he's careful with
the football and what's been the biggest problem for the
Buffalo Bills is the interceptions and the fumbles from Josh Allen,
So I look at CJ. Stroud and I know it's
a short sample size, and I know we get over

(13:31):
our skis on a lot of players early in their career.
Are you know Robert Griffin the third? I mean, it's
happened so many times at the quarterback position, but this guy,
he seems to have those intangible qualities that it factor
that you're looking for in a quarterback.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
He's Rich Orenberger in for Jason Smith. I'm Mike Carmon.
Coming up next. As we continue here on Fox Spords
and Radio, turn our attention to the other side of
the bracket, the NFC and the leading team and one of.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Those things that you know, be careful what you wish for.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
And you thought they were playing slowly, there's still a
top the heap. We'll examine the Eagles in mass here.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
Coming up. He's Rich, I'm Mike, and this is Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 6 (14:24):
Hey, what's up, everybody.

Speaker 7 (14:25):
It's me three time pro bowler LeVar Arrington, and I
couldn't be more excited to announce a podcast called up
on Game.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
What is up on Game?

Speaker 7 (14:34):
You asked, along with my fellow pro bowler TJ. Hutchman,
Zada and Super Bowl champion. Yep, that's right, Plexico Burris,
you can only name a show with that type of
talent on it. Up on Game We're going to be
sharing our real life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen
to Up on Game with me LeVar Arrington, TJ. Hutchman, Zada,

(14:56):
and Plexico Burrs on the iHeartRadio app podcast or wherever
you get your podcast from.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
Welcome back in.

Speaker 4 (15:07):
It's Fox Sports Radio, Jason Switch Show with Me, Mike Harmon,
Know Jason this week off gallivanting, gluttonizing, et cetera. Send
them all birthday greetings out. How about a fresca find
us myself and Rich Hornberger at Swollen Dome and at Ornberger, respectively.
Rich will be up in the morning, getting you get
on your drive as you hit the highways and byways again.

(15:31):
Seven sixty down in San Diego, burning the midnight oil.
Don't want to burn the peanut oil and thus the
turkey that you're inserting therein. But it is a. It
is a good time for gluttony. Safe travels to y'all
on the highways and byways, or if you're just sitting
down and taking a pause from the normal rat race,

(15:52):
damn it, you earn that too. So thanks for giving
us a few minutes of your time and being part
of our family here at Fox Sports Radio. And thank
you Rich shorn Berger for answering the call on this
Tuesday evening.

Speaker 6 (16:03):
How can we do it? I'm happy to do it.

Speaker 5 (16:05):
We got Thanksgiving quickly approaching, and I'm very thankful for
the opportunity to work with you guys.

Speaker 6 (16:10):
It's just a lot of clowning around for four hours,
just like I like it.

Speaker 4 (16:14):
Yeah, that's the bottom line as it goes through. So
we thank Isaac. We thank our guys Justin and Alex
for making us sound oh so pretty as we come
to you here coast to coast on the iHeartRadio app
across the nation on four hundred plus affiliates nationwide. Really,
it's truly a blessing to do what we do. We
don't take it for granted, and I hope we're either

(16:35):
making you laugh, making you think, or shaking your fist
in anger or maybe all three at the same time sometimes,
so it's all good. Hey, how about the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday,
a gutsy win after a really rough first half against
the Kansas City Chiefs on the road, beneficiaries of a
couple of huge mistakes by the Chiefs, the great punch

(16:58):
out of the Travis Kelce reception, then fumble Mahomes with
an interception in the end zone, to uncharacteristic plays and
an offense that's sputtered in the first half.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
Well, they got things going.

Speaker 4 (17:11):
Hurtz used his legs more the second half, more DeVante Smith,
and they get a twenty one seventeen win to go
to nine and one. Rich on the season. And what's
been interesting to me is watching this squad as it rolls.
They're winning all sorts of different ways.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Right.

Speaker 4 (17:28):
Winning ugly was the theme of the nineteen eighty three
White Sox. However, you know, running the extra base on
an error, a guy being lazy in the outfield, Rudy
loss sprinting around, all of those kind of things that
you had going on. That made for a magical season,
and we watched it. We talked a lot about the
Steelers tonight and at six and four being out gained

(17:50):
in every game history would say that eventually, you know,
it's time to pay the rent when it comes to
the wins and losses there, and today Matt cann paid
with his job for the Eagles. There's still the question
mark of how much better can this squad be when
they're already nine and one, because it never seems like

(18:11):
it's everything working, at least offensively.

Speaker 6 (18:14):
At the same time, it really isn't. It's not.

Speaker 5 (18:17):
It really hasn't looked as good as it you could argue,
as good as it can or as good as it
should for a nine and one football team, But here
they are. And so it's almost a compliment in a
strange way that we can still say the Eagles are
better than their record shows, like they truly are, Like

(18:37):
they're nine and one, but they should be nine and
one with blowout victories all along the way because they're
not playing to their full capabilities. And there's a lot
of different reasons for that. And like you said, the
same way, they've won a lot of different ways. They've
also been attacked and they've struggled a lot of different ways,
and sometimes the struggle is their second half defense. You know,

(19:00):
letting up a whole bunch of scores to I don't know,
Sam Howell and.

Speaker 4 (19:04):
The Right against Washington Right thirty four to thirty one,
overtime win, thirty eight thirty one win just a couple
of weeks ago.

Speaker 5 (19:12):
But then you have the game like last night where
they're facing Weather, it's Arrowhead Primetime, It's Andy Reid and
the Chiefs after a bye week. We know the record
that history precedes this game. You have Travis Kelcey coming back,
assumably more healthy than he left the situation on you know,
the the you know, the front side of the bye week,

(19:32):
and so they find a way to shut him down.
Really has another quiet night, and they play a better
second half than the Chiefs did. The Chiefs, by the way,
over the past three games, Yeah, I'll take a slight
departure to concentrate on them. Over the past three games,
they've been held scoreless in the second half.

Speaker 4 (19:48):
And even going back to two games prior, they'd scored
a total of thirteen points between the then woeful Broncos
and the Chargers defense, which we chronicled nauseum here at
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (20:02):
Yeah, and they're second to last in the league in
second half, scoring at something just over five and a
half points per game in the second half, which is
abysmal for an Andy Reid led.

Speaker 6 (20:12):
Offense and a Patrick Mahomes led offense.

Speaker 5 (20:15):
So it's a really strange situation on the Kansas City side,
but even still their second place in their conference and
the Eagles, you can say some similar things. They have
their awards. That offensive line who's been highly touted, goes
against the Kansas City defensive front and no shade at
Kansas City. This is a much improved defense from Chiefs

(20:35):
defense of the passy.

Speaker 6 (20:38):
They sacked him five times, like you know.

Speaker 5 (20:40):
So again the Eagles, they're finding ways to win, but
they're also finding new ways to get attacked. We haven't
seen Jellen Hurts under that much duress at any point
this season, and it's.

Speaker 6 (20:52):
Really kind of strange.

Speaker 5 (20:53):
So the more I watched the Eagles, the more I
believe that they are a super Bowl team again this season. However,
they're skating on thin ice and such thin ice at
different points throughout this season where you feel like they're
gonna fall in you just do.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (21:10):
It's funny because coming into the year, like we're talking
about a lot of the AFC teams as being you know, powerhouses,
and now like all right, you got the Ravens that
we think are the most complete right now, but they've
got their warts to be the man. You gotta beat
the man, the old Rick Flair adage when it comes
to the Chiefs. Right, we're still only in late November,
plenty of football to be played. We'll get to Travis

(21:32):
Kelcey in Arnest here in a minute on the other
side of ILO's update. But the NFC is where the
juice is right now. Right when we look at the
Eagles at nine and one and still some room for improvement.
When we look at the forty nine ers, what they
are mentioned that three game losing streak with Purdy again,
Jake Moody hits that field goal, perhaps it's not as dire, right,

(21:54):
the pendulum, the roller coaster ride, whatever you want to do.
Isn't so drastic, that swing. And then we look at
the Cowboys who have us intrigued. But we're also, I think,
and rightly so, skeptical of what it looks like when
it's time for winning. Yeah, and those are your teams

(22:15):
at the top, right.

Speaker 5 (22:16):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, I mean and and I think
you really kind of characterize them all appropriately. You know,
it's it's uh right now with the Detroit Lions, it's uh,
it's a little bit like new money, right, you know.
They they don't know, they don't know how to spend
it yet. And all the all the the the the wealthy,

(22:37):
uh trust fund babies who are now in their in
their elder years, like you know, John Lynch and Kyle
Shanahan who have been there and done that on the
on the forty nine ers block, they they're looking down
their nose at Dan Campbell and company, just like, look
at them. They're having so much fun down there, Mortimer.

Speaker 6 (22:57):
You know, it's just it really does kind of feel that.

Speaker 5 (23:00):
And look, the Lions, they're gonna be in for their
their troubles here because it takes a lot. It takes
a lot more than a quarterback who's been to a
Super Bowl to show a team what it means to
play in the postseason and how to win in the
in the postseason.

Speaker 6 (23:16):
It helps.

Speaker 5 (23:17):
Jared Goff is experienced and he's a winner in the postseason,
It certainly helps, but it's you need experience to really
understand how frenzied the pace gets when the whole season's
on the line and its single elimination, and so Detroit
is gonna have their struggles.

Speaker 6 (23:37):
Like you said with Dak, I mean, is he clutch?
We still after all these years, we can't answer that questions.

Speaker 5 (23:43):
Yeah, it just it seems like maybe it's a no.
But can he do it? You know, the Eagles, we
talked about them, the Niners. It's it's it's really wide open.
On the NFC side, it feels like the cream is
starting to separate from the way. Right, We're starting to
see the cream rise to the top on the AFC side,

(24:04):
But NFC it's going to be a battle to the
bitter end.

Speaker 4 (24:06):
Yeah, the Lions are the intriguing part of it, right,
the newcomers to all of this National Hyde and Dan Campbell,
you talk about the introductory press conference and bite knees
to where we are now, the speech he gave a
couple of weeks ago, just saying it doesn't matter how
you got there, you got a w don't let him
take it away from you. Like those moments are my favorite, right,

(24:28):
Coaches and winning ugly, going back to the Eagles and
beating the Chiefs yesterday one pretty But when Din came.
You know, you mentioned the five sacks in the first half.
I was Jalen Hurts. I would have walked out into
New Jersey gone, hey, get this one dirty, and then
at the end of the game he would have been
laughing at him. The only time this got dirty was
when we were doing the brotherly shove in the second half.

(24:49):
This is the only time that he would have hit
the ground because they did a good job of changing
up those protections and making sure he was upright. Lions
one of the more intriguing teams in the NFC for
so many reasons, especially Barry Sanders documentaries being out there now,
the way they beat the Bears this past week, which
I called great theater, and accomplishing a lot of pieces

(25:14):
rich yesterday because you got your loss right if you
want them. You know, the old tank for whomever kind
of argument, and maybe you found out a little bit
about justin fields and you confirm that Matt Eberflus and
Getsy don't know what the hell they're doing in crunch
time situations. Here's another dive play into the line. Yeah,
but I digress. You watched that live and in living color.

Speaker 6 (25:36):
Yeah, that's uh.

Speaker 5 (25:37):
Look, you know I feel for Bears fans because it's
been so bad for so long. And you know what,
though I will I will say this, you you gotta
hold out hope, right because at any given moment, you
know your CJ.

Speaker 6 (25:51):
Stroud can arrive, arrive like it.

Speaker 5 (25:54):
It's weird when it happens, But I mean think about
it for the Chiefs, you know, I mean the Chiefs
were in a dark place before Andy Reid took the job,
and then he traded for Alex Smith, and then they
got Patrick Mahomes in the draft a couple of years later.
And now you know, this generation of kids has growing
up in like the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaker 6 (26:13):
When were they bad?

Speaker 5 (26:14):
It's a whole trust me, there were some there were
some dark years there in Kansas City.

Speaker 6 (26:19):
It felt for.

Speaker 5 (26:20):
A while like they sold their soul for that that
Super Bowl win something like fifty years you know, sixty
years ago now, yeah, and then all of a sudden
they were able to get back to the to the
Big Game for the first time forever. And uh and
and it's it's it's just miraculous when you find the
one in the draft, when you find greatness, or sometimes

(26:41):
it's just buried on your own depth chart like brock
Purty was, and you unearthed that greatness, it can get
really good for you really quickly.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
Well, hope is a dangerous thing. That was one of
the quotes from Shawshank. Yeah, seether the best of things
are a dangerous thing real quick. Before we get to
let's talk about Travis Kelcey for a second. Had the
touchdown reception, had the fumble, the punch out, had a
couple of drops.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
Now there's this report.

Speaker 4 (27:10):
Interview he'd done talking about, Hey, I contemplate retirement more
than you'd think, you know, Jason Kelcey, you know, saying quote.
I didn't really say nothing. I knew he was frustrated,
especially down the stretch. I'm sure there's some plays he's
beating himself up over and this was pretty funny. I
guess I really didn't know what to say. He said,
happy belated birthday. He didn't get me a gift, so

(27:31):
I guess that counts. He's not too happy. Obviously, I'll
talk to him this week. Obviously, there was a bunch
of stuff going on with Travis Kelce's girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
There was a death at a concert, bad conditions overseas,
they had to postpone a show, all that kind of stuff,
So I would guess that weighs on you a little bit.

(27:51):
But when you look at his production over the course
of the year here Rich, I mean, you got a
guy that's been in the league, what since twenty thirteen,
and as we know, tight ends taking the hits they do.
Even when he finds nice soft cushions in the zone.
Eventually he's getting a Malachi crunch.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
There you go.

Speaker 4 (28:08):
I gave you back your Fonsie reference three hours later.
So yes, he had just just dated for that entire time,
but he's taken his amount of hits. He's banged up
a little bit. You mentioned the injury from a couple
of weeks ago. I think Chiefs fans probably should relish
every time they see these guys get a chance to

(28:28):
play together, because I don't know how much longer he
is for this game. Between Saturday night live appearances, podcast
and just the budding social Q rating that he's got,
not to mention the injuries piling up.

Speaker 5 (28:42):
Well, you know, there was a I don't know if
I coined this phrase or if it was set before me,
And maybe I'm just misremembering the attribution.

Speaker 6 (28:53):
But I say this a lot.

Speaker 5 (28:56):
You're only as loyal as your options, and Travis Kelcey,
all of a sudden has way more options than he
used to. Travis Kelcey was once a great tight end, okay,
and that was all he was.

Speaker 6 (29:11):
Was a great tight end.

Speaker 5 (29:13):
And then he was a super Bowl champion, and then
he was a great tight end on a budding dynasty.
Now he's a podcasting superstar. He's dating the most famous
woman on the planet, and he can do no wrong
in terms of printing advertising dollars. He doesn't have to

(29:35):
worry about his next of kin or theirs or theirs
after that. He has generational wealth at this point. So
there comes a point where you say to yourself, You say, self,
why am I still taking shots in the ribcage over
the middle of.

Speaker 6 (29:51):
A football field?

Speaker 5 (29:53):
And I don't blame anybody who reaches that point in
their life because it's a violent game, it's a gladiatorial sport.
But all of a sudden, Travis Kelsey has a lot
of options, and so he's thinking about things a lot
more differently. Maybe he's starting to think and who knows,
I don't know how serious he's getting with Taylor Swift.
But maybe he's starting to think about a family one day.

(30:14):
Maybe he's starting to think about slowing down life a
little bit. Maybe things have gotten really really fast for
him in terms of all the celebrity and the publicity
and the things that are positive that have come with
this pairing with Taylor.

Speaker 6 (30:28):
Swift, but maybe some of the negative things too.

Speaker 5 (30:30):
It's like maybe backing off some of all of this
would feel better.

Speaker 6 (30:34):
It's so all of.

Speaker 5 (30:36):
A sudden, with all these options. I'm sure he's got
a lot more on his mind now. There have been
plenty of players in this situation, okay, and namely one
who is also married to a international superstar was Tom Brady.
Tom Brady had this otherworldly ability to compartmentalize his private
life from his public life, his work life from his

(30:58):
social life. He was able to put everything on a
shelf and be a professional Travis Kelsey if he wants to,
if he wants to live this life. He wants to
be globe trotting and going to Argentina in a bye week,
and he wants to be supportive of his superstar girlfriend,
and he wants to He's gonna have to find a
way to compartmentalize this. Otherwise something's gonna suffer, something's gonna struggle,

(31:22):
and most likely it's going to be his professional life.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
He's rich Orenberger in for Jason Smith by Carmen. I
would note the article that I read, the Jason Kelsey
tweet from our little comment from his interview from on
the top of the page had an ad that said
bo dacious with a picture of Bo Nicks and got
you back to the Oregon website. Going back to what

(31:46):
we were talking about a little bit before, with the
weird world we're in with college football and branding and
recognition and all. Just thought i'd tie that together here
with a nice little bow as we continue on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 5 (31:59):
There were certain times I'm not kidding you where I
didn't know what state I was in when I was
playing football. For example, the first time ever ever stepping
foot on the Notre Dame campus and completing a football
game against the Irish, I asked the teammate as we
were leaving the field, where are we in the country
right now? I thought Notre Dame was in Massachusetts. Turns

(32:23):
out it's in Indiana.

Speaker 4 (32:24):
There you go, there you have it. We just had
that with Frostburg. He was in Wisconsin for the Packer game.
Oh where'd you stay?

Speaker 2 (32:31):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (32:32):
It's like he was a rock star at the end
of a tour. Yeah, I don't know. I got nothing
for you.

Speaker 3 (32:38):
He's Rich.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
I'm Mike.

Speaker 4 (32:39):
This is Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with
Me by Carmen live fromthtyrach dot Com Studios.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
And coming up, we've got the play of the night.

Speaker 4 (32:48):
I think it's got something to do with tacos and
dunks and whatever else.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
We'll get into that coming up next on Fox.

Speaker 3 (32:54):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
Welcome back Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith Show with Me,
Mike Harmon, Rich Orenberger in for Jason Smith tonight, Jason
off all week Tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
We'll be back at it.

Speaker 4 (33:12):
Bernie Prattle will tag in as we get ready to
celebrate a holiday holiday holiday and get into all of
the fun and excitement of Thanksgiving Day, football and gluttony.
Rich is already gone to the deep friar once. What
else you got in your bag of tricks? Felix?

Speaker 6 (33:30):
Right, So the table's gonna look like this.

Speaker 5 (33:33):
I mean, the turkey goes without saying is gonna be roasted,
But then I'm gonna finish it off with the flamethrower first.

Speaker 4 (33:39):
Okay, good, good, good, Yeah, I mean it's become your staple.
Do you do you have a line of those yet?
Have you worked out an endorsement deal?

Speaker 6 (33:46):
We're working through the name, image and likeness portal row.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
That's good.

Speaker 6 (33:50):
Yeah. We're gonna get a fun together and then a collective,
a collective if you will.

Speaker 5 (33:56):
Also, I'm gonna bucket brine that turkey Prior to that, Yeah,
suggest it to everybody. Just submerge your bird in sugary
salty water with some other seasonings. You'll be doing yourself.
Maybe some citrus skins. You'll be doing yourself a lot
of good.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
Get that, intonight, I mean you're not going to bang.
You gotta get that, intonight.

Speaker 5 (34:17):
Yeah, it's happening. It's happening. It's going down, and then uh,
you know, stuffing. We're gonna do some roasted carrots. We're
gonna get after some macaroni and cheese that's gonna be homemade,
you know. Uh, look, I'm it's it's an involved affair.
You know what, it's stuffing. Stuffing is my favorite side dish,
by the way.

Speaker 4 (34:36):
And somehow I didn't doubt that when we got into
the five gallons of milk earlier.

Speaker 6 (34:41):
Yeah, it's just the heavier the better.

Speaker 4 (34:43):
We are a lot of heavy cream mixed there in.
We'll get to the play of the night here momentarily.
One of the stories that circles this game in Los
Angeles area sports, Bryce James, the son of Lebron, is
transferring again. Wow, So from Sierra Canyon to Campbell Hall
before playing for Campbell Hall, go to the Notre Dame.

(35:05):
Now he's going back all the way to where he began,
going back to Sierra Canyon. Okay, Well, and he'll be
eligible immediately, is the thing.

Speaker 2 (35:17):
And that comes out of it's like really just bounce around.

Speaker 6 (35:21):
Yeah, it's a it's an interesting thing because.

Speaker 5 (35:26):
Look, Lebron's Lebron's kids were fine to be He's a billionaire,
Lebron James a billion everything's fine for Lebron his kids,
but his kids are actually going to be able to
make like life changing money on name, image and likeness
deals because of who their dad is.

Speaker 4 (35:43):
Well, and Bronni already has all right, and he's coming
back hopefully all good reports off the cardiac incident. I
know he was warming up the other day and everything else.
People are now pulling trading cards of his from a
product that got released last week, so you can go
chase that. You can find retail product at your local

(36:04):
UH convenience stores for you there, Rich.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
But let's get to the play of the night.

Speaker 4 (36:08):
Let's go to their dad as he celebrates another milestone.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
And maybe, just maybe you got tacos.

Speaker 6 (36:15):
Go congratulated on my teammates and coach.

Speaker 3 (36:17):
So we're being older than go congratulated.

Speaker 6 (36:18):
On my teammates and coaches and things of that nature.

Speaker 2 (36:21):
And I haven't had an opportunity to really be right.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
He's only really on a level where the Lakers are
blowing you every team out.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
We're proll Hoteltown.

Speaker 4 (36:34):
Ninety nine in the final gets over thirty nine thousand
career points. That's the Progressive play of the day, brought
to you by Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable.

uh while is older than the coach of the opponents there,

(36:57):
the Utah Jazz, So that part of the narrative that
comes out of this game as well.

Speaker 5 (37:03):
Well, yeah, I mean, eventually you're going to see your
peers take head coaching jobs, and then eventually you're going
to see the youngsters take those jobs. And that's what
Tom Brady was going through his final seasons there in
Tampa Bay. He started looking across the field and be like, Okay,
I'm older than everybody on that team, and I'm older

(37:25):
than their head coach.

Speaker 4 (37:26):
Well, and that's why I need him and Rogers and
all these guys to play forever so I can still
feel young.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
He's rich on Mike Ben his next on Fox
