Speaker 2 (00:22):
Let's give this part you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Greetings, Welcome in second half of the show begins disco
ball still down in spinning marching band refusing to yield.
We'll get to that in the pageantry of Thanksgiving Day
games in about twenty minutes from now. But we do
have a story from one of the host cities that's
a bit scintillating and takes me back to simpler times
(00:52):
when the Lions were supposed to be good, They had
a great player and then well, nothing ever transpires and
he walked away from the game. Yeah, we'll get into
that momentarily, but reminder, we're broadcasting live from the ti
rack dot com studios tyrac dot com. We'll help you
get there an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, pre road
hazard protection and over ten thousand recommended installers tire rack
(01:14):
dot com the way tire.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Buying should be.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
It's a non tournament game, which means the Lakers are
are getting beaten at home seven to one on the
year coming into tonight and Dallas has come in Luca
don Hitch with a really bad mustache. But it's enough
to take a lead here as we roll on, Bernie,
because you know, I've got NBA and random space movies
(01:40):
on my monitors here in the Fox Sports Radio studios
as we celebrate Thanksgiving Eve Eve Eve. It's Bernie Fratto
in for Jason Smith tonight Live from Las Vegas.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
And maybe even an old modge to Don McLean in
the rejoint.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Well, you know, I try to hit the all the
decades as I can leave, but leave no pop culture
reference stone unturned. I know our friends Petrus and Money,
they always put up the playlist of what Ronnie, their
musical director, puts up. I wouldn't know most of the
names of what Alex has been doing tonight, except that
(02:16):
I know I've nodded my head a bunch, so I
will need an ice bag at the end of the night.
From my NeXT's going to be a bit sore, but
I'm certainly feeling it. But you know, one of the
things I think for Smith and I and certainly when
you joined the show with me, the pop culture references.
Probably need to make the list of them because it's
TV shows, movies and musical entries to help give everybody
(02:40):
a little bit of an idea of the rich tapestry
we weave here four hours every.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Night and never gets old. Mike, I enjoyed the hell
out of it, you know that. And to that end,
speaking of bumper music, as you know, I use exclusively
motom music on my Friday and Saturday Shoes shows. And
there's a method of my manage which I think even
be a segue to your next next to the subject.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Matter today, because even though you've left Detroit, you've never
really left Detroit.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
That's correct, that's correct.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Psychologically you are still on eight.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Mile, which is actually the borderline County between Wayne and
Macomb County for those scoring and all.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Yeah, any m rap battles for you back in the
day or are you in fact Papa Doc?
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Well, actually the thing is my rap battle is is
pretty good, but it only involves you know, the sugar
Hill Gang.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Nicely done, yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Absolutely. See, now we've been over a friend's house to
eat and food just ain't no good. Well we'll do
that in the eleven o'clock hour. How's that?
Speaker 3 (03:37):
How about that the bonus fifth hour. But we're talking
about Detroit right A lot, a lot, man. We opened
the show with it a little bit, you know, just
to me. I I don't listen to a lot of
sports talk radio. I'm being honest, right, I'll listen to
a little bit of our guys here, Pettersen and money.
If I'm driving home as you follow us on a Friday,
(03:58):
I'll catch a few minutes as you get started. And
it's not that I don't like people, it's the I
want to contain my thoughts. I want to you know,
I want to read news articles and then make my
you know, opinions mine not to say that in social
media spheres, I don't get a lot of stuff that
finds its way. And so talking about the Lions a
little bit earlier was more the LoveFest particularly, and maybe
(04:21):
I was a little bit jaded the way they came
back on the Bears, even though I argued, you know,
there are such things as good losses. Depending on your
point of view right, if you're still trying to get
top draft picks while getting an evaluation point on the quarterback,
that's the incumbent. That's the story for another time. But
it was a lot about the Lions and the resolve
(04:41):
of the Lions and ever and every once in a
while it's like, all right, I want another story to
find its way into my timeline. I'm like, come on,
there's got to be something else. And like most things,
you wait a couple of minutes, there'll be another scandal
or something else comes on the radar. Well, the story
that popped up and I first saw it a little
bit last night off this Newberry sand documentary, Bye Bye Barry.
(05:02):
It's on Amazon. I haven't had a chance to peruse it.
It's part of my sojourn here. As I take a
couple of days away, I'll still do the I watch
a flex segment. I'll be on with Dan and Aaron
tomorrow afternoon to go through some of the plays for
this weekend's fantasy games, talk about what's going on in
the Thanksgiving Day games. But Bye Bye Berry is certainly
on my list of things I want to sit and
(05:23):
watch in between my daughters, forcing me to watch Glee
or Pitch Perfect two or The Nun two or whatever
the hell else they've got planned for my viewing experience.
But there's a story that's circulating about Scott Mitchell, former quarterback,
about how unhappy he was with well his portrayal, and
some of the quotes that came through talking about Eminem,
(05:46):
the aforementioned Eminem Jeff Daniels, we know, I've talked about it.
And then Wayne Fonce, who had they had their issues
once pulled him out of a game, not after a possession,
but after an incompletion. In theory they made up and
kissed and made up off that, but they really, Bernie,
you were there on the scene for many a year.
(06:08):
And look, Barry Sanders is one of the guys I've appreciate.
I've had a chance to interview him a few times.
One of the blessings of this job. You know, they
always say, don't meet your heroes, don't Well, Barry Sanders
is one of those guys that every time I've encountered him,
he's been gracious, great storyteller, and he's got a really
good wit and snark about him when it comes to
(06:31):
certain subjects. And maybe I didn't poke the bear enough
on certain others, but coming from Mitchell quote, I can't
even begin to tell you what a disappointment is to
hear my own coach, Dwayne fonce and went out in
free agency and actively pursued me to the point of
begging me to come to Detroit say that he wanted
Joe Montana or Warren Moon. Well, I mean that's saying
(06:53):
the quiet part out loud. And then the only thing
missing from the team winning the Super Bowl was a quarterback.
A little support for I'm the coach might have gone
a long way. Wayne never had my back.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Let me address that. One of my proudest things in life,
and I do mean this is that I did cover
the Lions from ninety four to two thousand and eight
and was part of pre and posts for ten years
ninety eight to eight. That quote that was buried in
halfway through, I did watch Bye Bye Berry, and I
really enjoyed it because it was all home week for me.
All the people that were quoted in there or that
(07:27):
were reporting leland Stein, Jamie Samuelson got arrested, Soul Mike Stone,
Jennifer Ham and Jeff Daniels, Jalen Rose, Jocko Hughes, the
security guy. I've met him, all talked to him, all
know them all and I name drop. Okay, And you're
right everything you said about Barry as one hundred percent correct, Mike.
He's funny, smart, nice, down to earth all that. Let's
get to Scott Mitchell. And by the way, that's a
(07:48):
fagazy I called all my Detroit moles. None of us
ever remember back then Wayne Fon saying he wanted Joe Montana.
It was Nicks. That's just boloney. But he did say
to Barry Sanders on the sideline earlier this season that
was caught on camera. All we were missing was a quarterback.
And it's sort of ironic, Mike, because your research is good.
Wayne really did want them after that great performance in
(08:10):
Miami when Marino went down. But let's fast forward to
what led to this. It's ironic because in nineteen ninety
five the Lions had a good season. They were actually
ten and six. Scott Mitchell threw four over four thousand
yards thirty two touchdowns. They got to the playoffs and
they got trampced by Philadelphia fifty eight to thirty seven,
and Scott Mitchell threw five interceptions that day and you
(08:33):
can probably find it on YouTube. Scott Mitchell and Wayne
Fonce had a die tribe on the sidelines. Both had
meltdowns in front of God and everybody. No one ever
forgot that. That brought to light the fact that Wayne
Fons and Scott Mitchell really didn't get along. Ironically, during
one of the best seasons the Lions ever had. They
put up four and thirty six points that year, which
(08:54):
was the most in team history until twenty eleven. Scott Mitchell,
I think had the record for most past seen yards
on Thanksgiving. So anyway, that broiled over, That boiled over
into the offseason, and then the nineteen ninety six sieson
turned out to be a disaster. They were five and eleven.
Scott Mitchell and Wayne Fonce did not get along, and
(09:14):
it really came to a head that Halloween when Scott
Mitchell dressed up as Wayne Fonce, put on a Wayne
FONX shirt, put a pillow in his gut, put a
cigar in his mouth, and made fun of him and
talked about him, and it was all on film. I
was incredulous. I don't recall ever a player disrespecting his
coach that way. Well, Scott Mitchell won the battle. Wayne
(09:36):
Fonce was fired. In the following year, Bobby Ross came
in and Scott Mitchell hung around a couple more years.
He put up pretty good numbers. I think Wayne Fonce
didn't care for him as a field general and as
a guy who could command the locker room and be
the field general where the team would take on the personality.
The numbers weren't bad, they were there. Never won a
playoff game, but the Lines actually went to the playoff
(09:58):
five times in the nineties. Wayne Fonx is still bitter.
I think he believes Wayne that Scott Mitchell cost him
his job and there really was no love lost. They
did not only not get along, they were contentious with
each other. And that's about is short of a cliff
nos versions that can give you. Mike.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Yeah, as we look at you know where we are
now when it comes to coaches. We talked about a
little bit earlier the past, the blame around and try
to insulate yourself. Hey, my part of the operations holding
up well, that guy and that guy you know again
invoking Brandon Staley. It's low hanging fruit, but it's there.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
You know.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
His meltdown the other day talking about his defense. And
you're right, they did have a better game overall. They
gave up the big drive when they couldn't. And yes,
drops are part of the game. You still lost. It's
still another slot in the wrong column as you're fighting
for a playoff spot. But we've seen it, and you know,
(10:58):
you even turn back the clock here that you've got
just this famous back and forth and anger. You know,
we always celebrated Wayne Fonce, you know, on Thanksgiving Day,
there he is and you roll in. He was always
very nice in signing the trading cards. We sent his
youngsters to him, Bernie, So I gotta be good there.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
He's a nice guy. And Mike, as you know, when
they were the New York Titans, Wayne Fonce still has
the record of this day of ninety nine yard interception
return as a player.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
See you keep hanging hanging your hat on that one
all these years later, right, But you know they had
a couple of good runs. And for Mitchell, what's funny
is you go back in the annals of history, Bernie,
he signed that three year deal as a free agent worth.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Eleven million dollars. Think about that.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
Now, Yeah, that's what it was, that's what they pay
paid back then.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
But he also only completed fifty seven fifty eight percent
of his passes each year. Just a much different way
of constructing offenses. And another great example of how much
the game has changed with the flat passes, swing passes
and little shovel pass is that all count just the
same and help you pad those completion percentages well.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
And the Lions were very much a run first team.
But I remember when William clay Ford fired Wayne Fonce.
It was right after Christmas in nineteen ninety six, and
he honered the rest of his contract and Wayne Fonce
walked out of there with a couple million bucks and
he was very happy. But William clay Ford mentioned specifically
you shouldn't go five and eleven when you have such
potent offensive players as Barry Sanders, Herman Moore, Brett Perriman
(12:30):
and Scott Mitchell. So actually I think it was personal.
Wayne was bitter, and there's a little bit of revisionist
history there, Mike.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Quite honestly, I Julie enjoy some of the Herman Moore
quotes that you read from back in the day again,
stuff that would be front page news debated out all
the sports you know, hot take artistries and certainly trending
across social media these days with his honest evaluation of
what happened with some of those squads. So, yeah, there's
(12:59):
a little bit in the wayback machine, Scott Mitchell, Wayne
Fonce and you somewhere. My brothers are smiling thinking of
the old divisions and all of those battles against Barry
Sanders and Wayne Fonts.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
All right, they're in Chicago. Some were probably drunk, but
they I can.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
Tell you what it'll make you smile. In two thousand
and two and the Bears Alliance went overtime and Marty
morning Wegg instead of taking the ball kicked off the
Bears took it right down the field and scored. I
know you remember that the game was actually played I
believe in Champagne for some reason.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
Well, they were doing the re refurbishment of Soldier Field.
What is always the Battle of Soldier Field, which is
owned by the Park District, which is why they want
to move to the suburbs. Something that you know, only
a dork like me would really be following at a
grand scale. I mean, obviously you're watching what happens with
(13:49):
the a's it's been part of your weekend broadcast. Folks
can find the podcasts on that wherever you download ger Audio.
Certainly the Bernie Frido Show Friday nights after Jason and
I finish, and then Saturday nights, starting at eleven o'clock,
I go until three a m. Sunday, getting you ready
for everything in the NFL slate and wrapping up huge
(14:10):
college football weeks, no question about it, Bernie. For me,
you know, I love the business of all of this,
so follow it, of course, but certainly with the Bears.
You know, when folks say, well, why aren't they firing Eberflus,
why aren't they doing this? They remember, they forget there's rich,
and then there's rich, and then there's family businesses like
the McCaskey Hollis operation. And when you're not getting any
(14:33):
bit of juice from when Taylor Swift sells out three
shows at Soldier Field, eventually you want a little piece
of that pie and they don't get it right now.
And sometimes they're going to have a Sunday game that
was preceded by high school football, a concert and a
tractor pull. And that's why nobody wants to play at
(14:53):
Soldier Field, So you know, we look at it that
that and when they put what looks like a toilet
bowl over the old beautiful columns and all I actually cried.
I had to pull my car over on the side
of the road. I'd seen all the renderings, I'd seen
all the photos, but you see that live driving down
Lakeshore Drive for the first time. Growing up on the
(15:13):
South side of Chicago. You want to talk about something
that just punches you in the face or kicks you
to the nether regions, That's exactly what they did there.
The posts and the pillars are still there, but you've
got a shiny UFO looking thing or maybe the metal
commode of your local park district over the top.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
Mike is spot on your waxing poetic Woody Allen said
it best. Nostalgia is a trap. And I've only been
to Soldier Field a couple times, but the first time
I was there was in the late eighties when it
was Soldier Field, and it's not anymore, and you're not wrong,
and it was a spectacular venue. And you know, people say,
(15:52):
what's it like going to Fenway Park, What was it
like going to the old Yankee Stadium. What's it like
going to Wrigley Field, because you can stand there and say,
I'll be a son of a gun Ruth stood in
that box. You can go to the old Soldier Field.
What's still there. Actually, it's just different.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
It's different to figure differently and buried a little bit on.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
Different all that stuff. They've modernized it. But you can
still go there and say Sid Luckman played there and
google it, you knuckleheads. A few youngsters out there don't
know who sim That's on you. That's on you education.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
So no, no, no, see here's the problem.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
Though.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
He shows up in all the graphics because they say
that's the last good Bears quarterback all these years.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
Part of the Jim McMahon. I got a great Jim
McMahon story. I met him and I was recruiting play baseball.
But you are you another story, great Jim McMahon story,
and I'll tell you I love the punky QB. That
was a team for the age.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Oh, celebrate him every chance I get. Hopefully he's doing
well as well his health like all those guys their
health issues along the way. Steve McMichael, who go into
the Hall of Fame, This year. One of my favorites
of all time might have worn his number a couple
of years playing youth football back in the day. He's
Bernie Pratto in for Jason Smith's Jason Smith The Show

(19:57):
You know, the the extra days and growing old not
afforded to everybody. So celebrate even if it's just a
quiet day to yourself. But if you're going to family,
make the best of it, you know, listen to Uncle
Jerry's story for the thirty seventh time where the fish
got another foot larger than last year, or something about
(20:20):
somebody's job they don't particularly like.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
Keep not going down the line.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
You know the storylines, you know the characters, We've all
got them there would help make up the great rom
com sitcoms and some of the great non Christmas Christmas
movies that we'll talk about with the crew coming up
in about twenty minutes from now. And you may have
given a tease to what your entry to that might
have been all the way back at the start of
(20:44):
the show. See if you listen to the whole show,
You've got it. Podcast will be up in about ninety
five minutes, maybe one hundred. We'll just do a nice
round one hundred wherever you download your audio, and however
you come to us, we appreciate you being part of
the extended family. Whether I've made you shake your fist,
maybe enraged you a little bit, entertainment and certainly hopefully
(21:06):
we made you laugh a little bit along the way,
because that's really the goal here. It's all about entertainment.
Finding a little bit of levity even in between all
the serious stories we have to cover on a daily basis,
and Bernie, one of the stories we're following in the NFL.
We talked about the Lions, Scott Mitchell, Barry Sanders. All
the drama that flows out of the Bye by Barry
(21:28):
Show on Amazon is that we do have the Detroit
Lions in their traditional place atop the perch on Thanksgiving
Day with the Packers coming to town and the Packers
coming off a narrow victory, a fingertip victory, with Quentin Johnston,
the rookie, failing to secure that Justin Herbert pass that
(21:49):
might have given them the victory. Who knows, they might
have still screwed it up in the final seconds. But
we are where we're at in this week. What Week
twelve of the National Football Leage already with the Lions
coming off a big win against the Bears, wasn't pretty?
Golf struggled early, Jalen Johnson, give me my money, Give
me my money. Oh, I should have had a ninety
(22:10):
seven yard interception return for a touchdown. Nah, here you
can have a rushing touchdown on the next play. As
they came back and beat the Bears thirty one, twenty six.
But the Lions all of a sudden things the path
is open and the schedule down the stretch is there
for them as long as they take care of business
against an old division fow.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
Well, the Lions are seven and a half point favorites tomorrow,
and they're eight and two for the first time in
sixty one years. We all know that. Here's the big
takeaway for me. And by the way, I believe there
are a lot of technical, trans and fundamental trends that
do favorite the Lions on Thursday since two thousand and four,
favorites on Thanksgiving Day forty six and eight straight up,
(22:52):
three six and eighteen against the spread. And when you
face a team that's under five hundred and the line
is more than seven heat and two straight up sixteen
to five against the spread. The big takeaway for me
last week, Mike, and you reference some good talking points
regarding the game against the Bears. The Lions turned the
ball over four times, and you defy odds when you
(23:15):
still win a game in the National Football League, if
you turn the ball over three times or more, you
lose ninety four percent of the time. And they manage
to steal that win. I think you see a much
better effort out of the Lions on Sunday. The Packers
have only scored twenty four points or more once all season.
Now they are coming off good. The Packers are coming
off back to back good offensive performances three hundred and
(23:40):
ninety nine yards against the Steelers and then three seventy
nine last week against the Chargers. So the lines have
been inflated when you consider the Packers have been an
underdog of more or check that they haven't been an
underdog of more than four points all season. But the
only stun I could actually look to here, Mike are
the Lions. I feel the Lions win by ten.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
As we look at this this game, you go back
earlier this season at the end of September, they met
for the first time, thirty four to twenty the Detroit win.
Love pass for two hundred and forty six yards, a touchdown,
two interceptions, absorbed, five sacks. Offensive line has been an issue.
Aaron Jones is going to miss this one. AJ Dillon's
gonna play, but he's a little bit banged up as well,
(24:20):
haven't and they lost their tight end who had a
lacerated kidney, so one of those serious injuries that we
chronicle in the NFL as well, so missing a couple
of playmakers along the route.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
For Jordan Love, a guy.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Who everybody wants to have the referendum on him seemingly
every week, like he's one of the pinatas in the
quarterback world that we love to skewer. The only guy
I think that gets more derision right now is Kenny Pickett.
With Justin Fields well, this week, I don't think there
was a lot of Justin Field's hate for once. I
(24:59):
think the was more the recognition of the silliness of Evercluse. Look,
you can go back to the play calling down the
stretch right the second to last possession, and I harped
on it a bit Monday. I'll bring it back here.
Since you're astute observer of the game, you're moving the
ball well with him right, he's getting out of the pocket,
making plays already all over one hundred rushing yards for
(25:20):
the night, and you're getting to the edge and getting
him some time to make some plays downfield. You call
two dives into the center of the line that allows
Detroit to kill two timeouts there. So you basically took
no time off the clock, and now you're on at
third and nine, which even for the good offenses in
the league is a low percentage proposition.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
You're the Bears. What are you doing?
Speaker 3 (25:45):
Khalil Herbert wasn't a guy that was running out of
his mind? And you called basically half to have halfback
dive plays, begging them to take the timeouts and come
take the game from you, which is exactly what they did.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
Well and Mike, Yeah, it had to be a tough
one for the Bears when you're leading by two scores
with a little over four minutes left to go, and
what do they put up that win probability ninety two
point eight per so, what do they do? Throw a
dart of a board and just come up with a number.
I don't know how they do that.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
Well, they have a lot of big supercomputers like they
had in War Games or in the Greco or the
Greco from Oceans thirteen.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
Actually I'm starting to think they got like a Commodore
sixty four.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
Well, that's the thing. It was a large machine without
a lot of computing.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
Look, the Lions are a cover machine. They didn't cover
last week, but they're eleven to one against the number
in their past twelve divisional games. And back you back
as it pertains to Lyons Green Bay. It feels like
a thirty four to twenty one game again, Lions, especially
coming off a four turnover performance where they somehow found
a way to win. So look, the Lions are all
(26:52):
of a sudden the media darling, and now they're gonna
have They're gonna have to perform with expectations, Mike, And
you know how that goes. I call it quantum physics.
When no one's paying attention to you, you can sneak
up and then all of a sudden, when everybody's watching
you and you're the hunter instead of the haunted. Our
check that you're the hunted instead of the hunter. And
there are expectations. Not everybody can live up to that.
(27:13):
So the Lions, you know, as well as they have done,
they got a long way to go to finish your job.
And is you know, Thursday is just another box they
have to check, as it were.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
Well, that's it, stay healthy, get out of the game unscathed,
succeed and proceed at Bernie Prattle where you find Bernie
on Twitter. Coming out next, we'll pay tribute to an
anniversary and the next game on the Thanksgiving Day slate.
But first we turn it over to Martin Weiss for
an update of what's transacting in our sporting universe.
Speaker 6 (27:40):
Well, what's transacting right now? Chris Paul Verse Scott Fofter.
Scott Fofter wins again as he had Jax Chris Paul
in the third quarter of this Warrior Suns matchup right now,
five minutes left and unless the Warriors going to run,
this thing's over. But the final score one oh nine
till ninety five. The Suns lead at Klay Thompson high
score for the war with twenty three Devin Booker two
(28:01):
rebounds away from a triple double with twenty two points,
eight rebounds and four assists. Also going on in the
Los Angeles right now, the Mavericks and the Lakers Mavericks
with a three point lead ninety five to ninety two,
four to thirty seven left in the fourth quarter. In
that matchup, Luka Doncis on triple double watch as well,
twenty eight points, nine rebounds, seven assists. Lebron James twenty
(28:22):
one points, seven rebounds, seven assists. Also happening in the
Association earlier tonight, Nicole Jokis had a thirty point, thirteen rebound,
twelve assist triple double and a loss. Magic beat the
Nuggets won twenty four to one to nineteen. Franz Wagner
had twenty seven points.
Speaker 4 (28:37):
In the win.
Speaker 6 (28:38):
Trey Young had forty three points nine assists as the
Hawk beats the Nets one forty seven to one forty
five in overtime. The Bucks had were getting blown up
for most of the game. Al scored thirty seven fourth
quarter points to make a close, but the Celtics beat
them regardless, one nineteen to one sixteen. Jalen Brown twenty
six points, eight assists Timberwolves go to seven and zero.
(28:58):
At home, they beat the Philadelphia seventy six ers one
twelve to ninety nine. Anthony Edwards with thirty one points,
six rebound, six assists.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
Clippers beat the.
Speaker 6 (29:06):
Spurs oneh nine to ninety I'm sorry one O nine
to one oh two despite twenty two points, fourteen rebounds
of three blocks from Victor win Binyama. This year's number
one overall pick, Kawhi Leonard, former San Antonio spur had
twenty six points in his return in the NFL Commander's
running back Antonio Gibson is a game time decision for
the Thanksgiving game against the.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
Cowboys Rico Daldel.
Speaker 6 (29:29):
In that same matchup, he's expected to play, fighting through
an ankle injury, and in the Lions Packers game, AJ
Dillon is expected to go as well. He's struggling with
a groin injury. Mike Burnie, back to you.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
The groin injury.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
Everybody raise your glass for Aj Dillon as we hear
Creed in the back. I'll catch Martin on Saturdays here
on Fox Sports Radio and doing some extra work here
these next couple of days in the holiday holiday holiday
as well.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Yeah, I'm here a lot.
Speaker 6 (29:57):
I'm here tomorrow filling in for Chris Brussard, and then Friday,
I'm here from three to two seven Eastern.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
I got to that quick Matchange.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
No, I was gonna say, I'm watching you do. The
time was like, what did I agree to do? As
he starts pulling up his schedule. Here there you go.
Thank you at Martin Wise where you find him, over
on Twitter, at Bernie Frattos where you find Bernie and
behind us you heard the sounds of Creed because in
two thousand and one, Oh they rock Texas Stadium Medium
(30:26):
in front of sixty five thousand is part of the
halftime show for a game between Washington and Dallas. And
now they've thrusted the Rangers to a World Series title,
they will not be in attendance, at least participating in
a performance performance. You want to talk about his performance? No,
so a little bit of creed as we celebrate the
(30:48):
twenty second anniversary there, Bernie. But we've got the Washington
Commanders against the Dallas Cowboys tomorrow Cowboys seven and three Washington.
A little bit of excitement with Sam Howell. But going
back to all of the testy coaches, Rob Rivera having
to answer, well, the question that really didn't need to
be asked this year, except you had a new owner
(31:08):
and he decided not to change everything up in one
fell swoop. But struggling getting swept in the season series,
well it's tough to bring him up right now. There's
some swirling legal ease related to Joe Namath as well,
so keep an eye on that. You can all read
about that on the interwebs as it were. But you
(31:30):
lose the season series to the Giants, the woeful everybody
casting aspersions and Brian Dables a terrible coach and all
of those things with the New York Football Giants, and
last week a thirty one to nineteen lost turnover fest
twenty twenty three is how I termed it. And now
you're looking at Sam Howe with a pretty potent offense.
(31:53):
Mart wife brought up the Antonio Gibson out there, but
Brian Robinson has been fantastic in spots, certainly for fantasy owners,
getting a little bit of love with the PPR leagues.
But Dallas finally got Tony Ballard off a little bit.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
Ceedee.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Lamb had talked about it before last week's games, like,
all right, we got me, Brandon Cooks was back. Now
we got to get TP going and Pollard, who'd had
a slow season, you know, suddenly there and you start
chirning and you can mix and match a little bit more, Bernie.
They're in a good spot here at home and pretty
big favorites at home. Last I saw it was a
nine point number that they were laying against Washington coming
(32:30):
into town.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
It's actually moved to eleven now, yeah no, but you're
not far off. Obviously a lot of public money has
come in on the Cowboys and you're gonna see that
on standalone national TV games. Interestingly enough, this will be
Dak Prescott's seventh Thanksgiving game. He's only three and three
(32:51):
on Thanksgiving, nine touchdowns, five interceptions. I'm actually gonna grab
the points here. I'm gonna hold by nose and grab
the points. Dallas never seems to stand prosperity, and whenever
they come off a double digit win, when they are,
they're two and eight against the number. The following week,
I think you're going to see a little bit of
smashmoun football. I think you're going to see both teams
go up and down the field. This feels like a
(33:12):
thirty one to twenty eight ten game. I think Washington
hangs around. They don't have enough in the tank. Sam
Holland Company or Thurston B. Holland Company, whoever you want
to win the game. But I think they give Dallas
to scare Mike and full disclosure, I've I've grabbed the
Commanders in the eleven points.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
I'll tell you what go back to. I'm looking at
Bavada right now. It's up to thirteen. Wow, like another
two points, so that's a four point swing since I
looked at it, which would have been last night before
the show, so expecting some movement. That's some pretty hefty
movement over under sitting at forty eight and a half
right now, for.
Speaker 4 (33:47):
That one feels like a high scoring game and it
correlates to the over. It doesn't surprise me though. This
is a fade on Washington. But look, you know there's
an old thing. They give scale on the other side
as well, and Washington can play well, they just aren't consistent.
But in an advisial game like this on a national
(34:08):
TV there's plenty of technical You don't lay eleven thirteen
points like that and expect to get rich doing it.
So I will stick to my guns. I only got
them at eleven, but I'll take the commanders in eleven.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
Well, and we've seen Dallas, I mean, we still wonder
what they are I think at this point. Right you
talked about identities of squad, just like Miami over on
the AFC side, tough matchups, they've come up short. Now
this one doesn't rate as one of those, but it's
a divisional matchup, it's a short week, familiarity, all of
those things, maybe a rally around kind of situation. And
(34:41):
to your point, you know when we look at turnovers
and all the technicals coming out of the Sunday's game,
you know, regression to the mean a little clearer game.
They put up points right because they removed the ball.
Just keep shooting yourself in the foot. It's like Kansas
City the other night. All of a sudden, the sky
is falling because of a couple of drop passes and
the unthinkable peanut punch in the red zone Travis Kelcey.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
That never happens.
Speaker 4 (35:04):
Well, an interesting point here, Dallas is expensive. If you're
gonna bet them on Thanksgiving, you're gonna pay a tax,
as evidenced by the fact Dallas is only one and
eleven against the spread on Thanksgiving Day the last dozen years.
And by the way they were, they're only five and
seven straight up, and they won their Thanksgiving game last year.
Dallas did, but they haven't won back to back Thanksgiving
(35:27):
Day game since two thousand and nine. Now people can
think that's a bunch of whoey, But if you want
to get ahead in front of a speeding train, be
my guest. It's too many points. I could be eating
crotamr night at this time, but I'll stick to what
I think I know, and I do. Like the commanders
in the.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Points, well, just make sure you marinate it and let
it do it. Thanks story, and if you have a

Speaker 4 (36:06):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
We're here in the Tirak dot com studios Bertie prado
in for Jason Smith. As we continue on, we'll take
us sojourn into the world of entertainment because I want
to know, as I get into my binge watching I'm
seeing twenty four hours of elve everybody sits and watches
a Christmas story. I want to know what your favorite
non Christmas Christmas movies are. What's circling, you know, the
holiday holiday holiday season, but it's not in the cannon
(36:31):
of Christmas movies that maybe we can add to our
playlist for the good folks nationwide and globally, and we'll
do it next here on Fox.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific. Welcome back in.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
It's Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith Show with Me, Mike
carbon Lifethetirack dot Com Studios, Bertie Prado in for Jason
Smith tonight. And wouldn't you know what, the Lakers woke
up and made it again even in a non tournament game,
two one oh one, two point eight seconds remaining, Mavericks
at the line. Meanwhile, Phoenix beating up on Golden State
(37:11):
final minute, and we still have a coaches challenge here.
We got a six point game, forty one point seven
rolling on there. You know, eyesight when you're a little older, Bernie,
I forgot to put my glasses on, so misreaddit.
Speaker 2 (37:25):
So I'm sorry America.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
If I gave you a little little little heart palpitation
related to that game. At the end of your first year,
Discover credit cards automatically double all the cash back you've earned.
That's right, everything you've earned double. Seriously see terms. Check
it out for yourself at Discover dot com. Slash Match
and Bernie, you know one of the things is we
get to these holidays. As I mentioned a little bit earlier,
it's all these twenty four hour marathons or binge watching
(37:49):
being the norm for most right Hey, I didn't watch
any of season one, two or three of this, but
you know what, over a weekend, I can catch up.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Right now, we're watching a lot of ink Masters.
Speaker 3 (37:59):
You know that is to to design and give you
an idea, and you've got to go to work, and
you know, folks volunteer to get tattooed by these people,
and then obviously we get into cover ups and whatever else.
But where we're also at is all of the holiday movies.
I'm seeing the Here's twenty four hours of Elf, Here's
twenty four hours of a Christmas story of National Lampoons,
(38:19):
Christmas Vacation, and go on down the line. So I'm
trying to figure out, you know, where I can find,
you know, movies that have a little bit of holiday.
But I don't have to, you know, feel jolly. The
entire time you mentioned trading places as we got things started,
So I mean that's one certainly everybody debates die hard,
so we exempt ourselves from getting that in the conversation.
(38:42):
I would throw up Batman returns the second in the
Tim Burtons before he left the franchise, you know, the
Penguin Catwoman, and you know, we all celebrated Michelle Pfeiffer
in that movie and the craziness of Christopher Walkin, who,
let's face it, all they did was kind of right
about Donald Trump, and at the time in New York
can kind of ramp that up a little bit.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
Feeling good, Billy Ray looking good, Lewis, I'm glad we
talked about Yeah, and it took place in Philadelphia during Christmas,
and it was a wonderful movie. And you and I
are both massive movie buffs. We could be Cisco and
Eber for crying out loud picking out my favorite non
Christmas Christmas movie, it's like picking out your favorite noodle
in a play of spaghetti, because there are a lot
of great ones. La Confidential, when Harry met Sally, eyes
(39:28):
wide shut, a very intensivy.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
Yeah, you wait, a little little bit freaky in there,
nicely do.
Speaker 4 (39:34):
Oh yes, that is a Mike. That's an excellent adjective
because if you really watch the essence of that movie,
it's a very broad ranging performance by Tom Cruise, and
his spouse, and I gotta tell you it is freaky,
and turn your cell phone off, you know, turn the
lights out and concentrate. You're gonna miss something. But let
(39:55):
me cut to the chase. This is an easy one
for me. My favorite all time non Christmas Christmas movie
is Edward Scissor Hands. It showed, it, showcased, it, showcased
Tim Burton as an absolutely exquisite movie maker and storyteller,
an original, truly original story and a pretty damn impressive cast.
(40:17):
Johnny Depp Wanona writer. By the way, they were dating
at the time, and he had Winona Forever tattooed. He
had to get a change, of course, and that was
right after I think.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Then he became Wino Forever.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
Yes, I think that was during that era where Wanona
was shopping at the mall and maybe forgot to pay.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
But you know what that celebrated these days?
Speaker 3 (40:39):
No, you know, actually, as long as it's under nine hundred,
look at you.
Speaker 4 (40:45):
I love a little social commentary. You get it all
here in the Mike Harmon Show. Johnny Depp Wanona writer.
Diane West was fabulous. Anthony Michael Hall was a son
of a gun. I almost swore, Alan Arkin was fabulous,
Kathy Baker, Vincent Price. It was a hell of a movie.
And you know what, it holds up and you can
watch it with kids, and it's four adults and it's
(41:06):
four kids, and it's just this incredibly original concept. And again,
I've always believed Tim Burton is really an exquisite filmmaking genius.
And this showcase is it. The darn thing came out
in nineteen ninety and honestly it holds up.
Speaker 2 (41:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (41:22):
I would say the one thing, you know, just to
tie the Tim Burton bow here is the Neon Museum
in Vegas had a huge display of like early stuff
from him right before Corona, the coronavirus virus shut everything down,
and my daughters and I had a chance to go
watch and go through that. All the exhibits, all the
old sketches and puppets and everything else. Really an amazing display.
(41:45):
And you should go check out the Neon Museum when
you go to Vegas. All the old signage and stuff
that you wander around and they do a bunch of
exhibits there you go, there's my PSA and there's the
travelogue of one Michael Harmon. He's Bernie Pratto. I'm Mike
Garmin here live from the tyrack dot Com studios. The
Jason Smith Show with Me Mike Armon rolls on as
we get into our final hour on Thanksgiving Eve. We
(42:07):
have one more game to preview, some injuries to talk about,
and all of a sudden, you know, everybody's celebrating brock
Purty again. How good is easy? We got some thoughts
and we'll give him to you next year on Fox
