Speaker 2 (00:22):
Let's give us you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, and welcome inside our two of The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, live from the
Tirack dot Com studios tyreck dot com. I hope you
get there. An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyrack dot
com the way tire buying should be. Well. Here we

(00:49):
are fifty five seconds left to go. Yeah, the Vikings
with a ten to nine lead over the Bears. Teams
have combined for six turnovers. Huh. After Justin Field's second
fumble of the game, Bears get the ball back. He
just hits Dj Moore on a huge gain down to

(01:09):
the Vikings ten yard line. Dj Moore limps off the
field in pain. Is being looked at on the sideline,
and now the Bears are kneeling on the football. They're
gonna take the clock all the way down and attempt
a thirty after they kneel on the ball one more time.
It's gonna be a field goal of under thirty five

(01:29):
yards to win this game over the Vikings twelve to
ten Bears football. Bears football under is gonna go twenty
eight to nine Bears football. Well, so it's a win,
right if we're gonna say you take the w's However,
you can for other teams, right, we talked about it

(01:50):
with Jason locking for last hour. The nitpicking and denigration
of the job done by the Eagles. Well, they're not
doing this well, they're slow starting. Well, it's like, did
they win. They won. We can talk about officiating. We
could talk about some decision making on both sides, but
they got the w. Likewise for the Bears here, assuming

(02:12):
he doesn't pull a Ryland they did that. Yeah, no,
it's unaware. That's the new England Patriots kicker. We missed
a thirty five yard or yesterday that would have tied
the game. You know, the team's giving up ten or
fewer points this year, are fifty to two. Guess what
team has those two losses? Patriots. So yeah, we're looking

(02:35):
at the Bears trying to well win a game that
they should have been winning going away and did everything
they could to hand it on a silver platter to
Josh Dobbs and the Minnesota Vikings. So Cairo Santos is
on for what would be a game winning field goal.
It's a thirty yard attempt and the Bears are out

(02:57):
of timeouts. They're gonna try to take this all the
way down and snap the ball as little time left
as possible because the Vikings are gonna get at least
a play or two depending on how this goes. Santosi's
field goal is up and good ten seconds left. The
Bears lead at twelve to ten. I'll tell you this
football game really, it's like watching Iowa scrimmage itself. This

(03:19):
is fan This is fantastic. You know what, man, I'll
tell you it's gonna be a in theory. No, no, no,
you got to tell me the truth. Now. You gotta
tell me the truth. Now, take your Bears fan out
of this now, because I know you're excited to win. Okay,
you have said for almost ten full years on this show,
I celebrate as I celebrate all two fifty six. We
added the now I celebrate all to seventy two. Do

(03:41):
you really celebrate all you you? I do. I just
celebrate them on a different game, different scale. No, No,
because it's another game where there was opportunity, that there
was a chance for glory. I mean you saw DJ Moore,
he had seventy three yards of yeack. Either you celebrate it.
You don't just celebate. I celebrated way left to celebrate

(04:03):
wholeheartedly every friend's birthday the same. No, No, you die
always some. You don't send a note to some even
if you're in the room you say give me my cake.
I'm leaving. Wow. But I don't walk around here and
say I celebrate all my friend's birthday. I don't do it.
I do. You're a little less and I know you don't.
I don't walk around so I celebrate everybody's birthday here.

(04:25):
I know. I know I don't. But you walk around saying, oh,
I loll to seventy two. I love national football, even
if I have an airing of grievances thirty seven pages long.
Even the way this thing is going down to the
people at this game. Don't celebrate this game. No they did,
because once you pay the money and you show up,
no your plot committee, and if nothing else, you'll find

(04:48):
a guy in an Irlacker jersey or a Devin Hester jersey,
and you'll say you never want anything. Uh. The Vike
run the kick back out of the nut run it back.
They run it out of the end zone. They get
it out to about the thirty five yard line, so
there will be time for what it's gonna be tough

(05:10):
to try to throw one out for five seconds. Maybe
it's a hail Mary, one of those crazy lateral plays.
That's what the Vikings have right now to try to
win this game over the Bears. So, I mean, I
don't know if Josh Shapps can make it all the way.
I think you saw what happened when the Jets tried.
It didn't go so well. The Vikings are going to
try to run some kind of crazy fumble Rooskie. No, no, no,

(05:33):
the Vikings are doing the whole fumble thing, and uh,
it's it's kind of interesting so far. And that's a
forward pass. That's gonna be a forward pass. Game's over.
This is a fun play though, No, it's still going.
Every offensive lineman's gonna touch it. There's been about eleven
laterals on this Finally they fumble recovery at the end.

(05:54):
Celebrate the hell out of it. That is great. Finally,
you know that play was exciting. Somewhere you're getting more
the other fifty nine minutes and fifty five seconds of
this game. That was fun. That was the best thing
this game had. And somewhere many people are celebrating a
fantasy win because the Bears got the turnover on the
final play. Plus ti're not that final play that really

(06:15):
it was about fifteen laterals and in the middle of
it a flag goes up where was a forward lateral
because Josh Dobbs tries to throw it back across the
field and it's forward. But they still keep the play
going another seven or eight laterals. Finally the Bears fall
in the football. They win at twelve to ten. The
Bears are now at four and eight and the Vikings
fall to six and six the Lesions. The Bears are

(06:36):
also now the first team this season. Mike, you want
to say, no, go ahead, go ahead? I was scribbling
it down, but gonna win a game without scoring a touchdown?

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Did you min.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Teams coming into this game, we're zero to twenty eight bears. Again,
they don't have to be pretty. Just get the dub
and I will say this. I celebrated that play. That
play was fun. That play was fun, but not the
whole game. It was a great end. It's not worth it. No,
it's not worth it. It's like I'm not sitting through
a two and a half hour movie just to get

(07:10):
to a good ending that sets up a sequel. I'm
not sitting through the game at all. That's the case.
Why you quit all together on your squad? Now, look,
even in a week where Aaron Rodgers could practice s now. Look,
let me just tell you, let me be real about
something here. Yeah, this game's stunk. Bears beating the well

(07:31):
that yeah that we know number two seventy one. Yeah,
I don't know that this game is. I know this
game gets out of the two seventies when you're n no, no, no,
it's gonna be bottom three. But right now, I'm just
gonna hold, isn't there somebody who ranks them all? Yeah,
it'll be me. No, no, no, no, no, somebody that
does it, like every year they do it. Maybe rank
every game as to how entertaining it was. Maybe they do.

(07:52):
I don't know. It sounds like a nice little thing
that we can add to our resume here on the
show for another great staff. Oh yeah, they just keep
coming in.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
Matt Iberflus now has his first win against an NFC
North opponent.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
How many games do you think it took him? Oh wait, wait,
his first win is North opponent six eleven. This is
his twenty ninth game. No, come on, he's never won
until tonight. No, no way, no way, really, no way.

(08:27):
He'd never beaten Norse Way nine games. They lost to
the Lions every wash to nine before tonight. Oh that's insane.
But that goes back to remember when Lovey Smith and
everybody was mad when he got fired. Now, on the
grand scale, he was, you know, the exalted leader compared

(08:48):
to all the guys they've hired since. But the problem
was he couldn't win in December, and he couldn't win
against divisional foes like it just got terrible time and
time again. You get the Thanksgiving and it was awful. Yeah.
With Eberflus, it's been an absolute joke, an absolute train wreck.
There's no way, Frostburg, there's no way if he's not
popping champagne post game, there's no way. Yeah, six and

(09:12):
twenty two is a head coach against the North.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
The Jets including that game against Detroit this last week
that they should have won going away, and then started
calling dive plays when Justin Fields had one hundred and
four rushing yards, was getting to the edge, creating plays
and openings in the passing game, musing his mobility. Instead, No,
let's run the ball into the line. Let the Lions

(09:42):
call timeouts and stop the clock. So we literally have
a nine second possession. Okay, that got to like fifty
one by time you ticked off a bunch of the
other But I mean, just absurd absurdity, man. So yeah,
this is a huge win for Eberflus. One of us play.
Want to check in on our boscott. Not even the
Jets could do something like that. I shouldn't say that.

(10:04):
I would say that, not even the Jets could do
something like this. Yeah, I don't know how excited I
am about the w though. Why you're exciting it. You're
still getting the first overall pick in the draft because
the Panthers are gonna finish, That's all You're fine, you
sure they can't light light a fire a dude, these

(10:25):
next guys that have Tepper over their show, let me
just listen, let me just let me just tell you
one thing. Let me tell you about that because because
look the big part of this game. Look, the Bears
win and we're talking about what they're gonna do at
quarterback and Justin Fields is the very glass half empty
game tonight. The Panthers fired Frank right today strictly because
I'm sure David Tepper just said, we are not just

(10:45):
handing this pick to the Bears. We're not just gonna
give it up to them without fighting and clawing with
off fingernails. But those inches we're not gonna do. We
gotta win some game. Guys, not gonna give this to
the guys. We're holding up pictures of DJ Moore and
Christian mccammer. I couldn't give this to them. We have
to go fire our guy, We have to fire. We
gotta go win, started chanting, we gotta Robertson in the background, Right,

(11:09):
we gotta go win games. Right, We got it. When
we're not just gonna give the Bears our number, the
number one overall pick in the draft, We're not gonna
do it. We're job. We're gonna go hire somebody else
to come in and watch the Patriots tank for the
number one overall pick in the draft. But that's whole
thing to me. The Patriots Belichick's not gonna be there.
You would think with the Belichick being how he is,
he's gonna do everything you can to win a couple
of games, so the Patriots don't pick first. Now see,

(11:30):
I think absolutely in full tank mode. He knew Ryland
was no good. Go ahead, kid, have a had it?
I mean, come on, the guy missed two a third
of his field goals all year. Yea a third of
his field goals. Yeah, you had, Nick Folk. I mean,
you know it's it's been Rylan. I mean, but I
I can't I dude, I can't see the NFL man.

(11:50):
This is iber flus's first win against again. I got
the specificity on that. Great. Did the Jets beat the
Bills early year this year? No? This is great though.
Up twenty six, twenty one, right with three minutes left
against the lines. First down Khalil Herbert up the middle,
no game, time out, Detroit. Second down Khalil Herbert one yard,

(12:15):
time out, Detroit third down shotgun incomplete the Tyler Scott
and then you have the punt, final possession time, three plays,
one yard, twenty six seconds last. That's Ebra Flues football, baby, dude.
All right, you're not gonna have him after this year? Okay,
you know you're not. How many years he got left

(12:35):
on it doesn't matter. You're knockingna. What do you want
to know? There's no way they're getting rid of him, dude.
You know what that you know, dude, I've already seen
the trade. It's Brandon Stalley from Matt Eberflus. It's gonna happen.
It's good right right soon as the two defense have
Wizards game after it? No comment, Yeah, I mean I can't.
This is his first win against an NFC Northolt, Yes,

(12:58):
come on, no, because everybody kept calling for we used
to get fired during the year. We were talking about it,
Brandon Stanley the coach, and he said, no, he hasn't.
What this is his seventh win, man, dude, even the
Jets and the Raiders have won games against their division.
Just telling you it's I mean, I I I just

(13:20):
can't believe this is real. Why do you take that
aged terribly? I can't believe over Well, dude, it's not
like you had. I mean, come on, you had, you know,
world beaters before that. No, no, no, but there were
some expectations. I used to call you on the phone.
You would say it's Lovely's fault. Like with I just
just say hello, how you doing? Lovey's fault that was
blamed for. That was you. That was you the whole time, dude.

(13:42):
And now I sing eber Flus like I'm in pearl Jam.
I'm standing at the beach champagne. It's actually in the fridge.
I'll bring it tomorrow, Matt, Matt, Jason Smith, Fox Sports Radio.
How happy are you to get at least one win
against an NFC North opponent before you get fired. I'll
take them off there, I'll take it off there. I

(14:02):

it's a huge deal. John Oates playing his instrument or
Daryl Hall singing. You can offer them again. Get up.

(15:08):
I think I'll just bump it you. It's either this
or the Jets play.

Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show is my best friend.
Mike Harmon, Now just really quick because you're playing Purple
Rain and we're here in the nick Cage Purple Rain.

(17:03):
So I went to Arizona over the over the break
last week was on visiting friend, visiting the the family
that I'm going to officiate the wedding for uh in
the spring, and uh we real you know, here's the thing.
We get to come and just watch them. No, no, no,
they want me to do it. Although I don't think
the bride was really happy what not. I shouldn't say
that because when I said, hey, let's talk. This is

(17:26):
probably the last time I get to see you before
the wedding, which is gonna be sometime in the spring.
And I said, let's talk about everything. You want everything? Yeah, great, great, great.
So we sit down and and uh, I'm just thinking
of the Sager's line when we when I first brought
this up, and he said, boy, help those people that
wedding enjoy hearing about the Mets. And uh, and I said,
you know what we got to do. We have to

(17:47):
recreate the Buckner play. And so the father of the
room was like, yeah, because he's a Mets fan like me. Yeah, yeah,
yeah yeah, and and and uh and and and Whitney's
gonna be Ray night Ago, Yeah, running across and scoring
all that. Who are you gonna be? You're gonna be
Mooie Wilson. I go, no, I'm gonna be Vin Scully.
So I can say a slow roller up the first
base line behind the bag and she's like, is this baseball?

(18:07):
What are you talking about? It? Go yeah, we're gonna
do this at your wedding. It's gonna be so great
and Jake the bride. Jake's gonna be Mookie Wilson. He's
gonna run and and and Hemmett the debt. You're gonna
be Bill Buckner. You're gonna make miss the ball and
walk off the field. She's like, what what are you what? Wait?
What are you talking about? What? What are you talking about?
We just got completely out of control. We're gonna recreate
the Buckner play at the wedding, breaking this thing up.

(18:28):
I really thought you were gonna tell me. You started
asking all sorts of really inappropriate questions so you could
have an impromptu version of the match game as part
of the ceremony. Hi, this is even worse here, and
Shay two outs. Lookie Wilson to striding. No, no, no,
you're supposed to not catch the ball, supposed to let
it roll through behind. Oh you can behind the bag man.

(18:52):
That's It's so anyways, my point of the story was
not quite that, but that's still funny. We kind of
know what your point was getting to, but I like it.
You create the bucket play. So one of the things
I got, and I almost got this buttishon it would
have been the shirt would have been too big for you.
But there were two T shirts I bought in Arizona,
one which I'm gonna wear into work that says know
your Keanus and it's all pictures of Keanu Reeves from

(19:14):
all those different movies and it's it's Assassin Keanu shirtless
Keanu uh music Kean from all And there was one
no your Cages, and it was all nick Cage. Well,
but it would have just been too big for it
would look like a dress. So I was like, oh man,
but I was gonna get it. I was gonna get
it for you. I was he can't wear it. Then
I thought, just again, he's gonna wear it anyway. But

(19:36):
I'm like, no, he's probably not gonna wear its off.

Speaker 4 (19:39):
And no, no, no, it was like.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
The one I got for me was an Excel. The
one that they had there was it was like a
three xl Z. It's gonna be too big for you.
Would have been a nightgown.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
No.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
I was thinking about I could get a cage. Move.
I go, I could get that three xcel cut the
sleeves off, cut the you know, cut the bottom of
it like half and wear it like a cut off
sleeve shirt. I really gonna I tie like a rope belt.
Yea rambo. Yeah, but then I said, and I should
have done that. We're crop top, crop top. I should
have done that. I could have worn that sleeveless thing.

(20:10):
I should have done it. See now I should have
done that. They have rowan in Keanu Reeves in there too.
It was it was devil Keanu Reeves from Bubbles. There
was sad actually the devil, but you know it was
sad Keanu Reeves f and the meme Wait wait till
I wear the shirt. It's it's my favorite shirt of
the one, the one where he's got the cupcake. Yes, yes, yeah,
but you don't see you just see his face. It's

(20:31):
incredible shirt. What about Constantine kanum Yeah, no, that's in there.
That's in there. Yeah yeah yeah. Constantine was uh supernatural
kon yeah, man know you're kanus. So the Bears win
on Thursday night on Monday night football, supernatural. It feels
like a TNF game. It should have been a Thursday
night game. Al Michael should have had to do this game,

(20:52):
uh twelve to ten, and uh we had the great
stat a few minutes ago that this is the first
win by Matt Eberflus against an NFC North. Yeah, he
was zero to nine and as a team they had
a twelve game losing streak in division going back to
the great era of Matt Naggy. I can't believe that's true.
But Frostburg, you have another big stat here off this game.

(21:16):
But there's more stats than touchdowns in this game. I'm
sure there is stats for days.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
Maybe it's been more than thirty years since the Bears
won a game without scoring a touchdown. Guys, nineteen ninety three,
ninety three was the last the nineteen hundreds.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Oh my and the Bears. Mike, now two games out
of the last wild card spot in the NFL. Get that.
Let's get the Bears. Bump it up. I'm going back through.
There was a win against Atlanta Sunday, October third, six
nothing win back in nineteen ninety three. Wow, there you go.

(21:56):
They're adding that although this is stupid winning this game, like, well,
you were off last week, right. There was a promo
that ran because I talked about the Bears and the
collapse slash giveaway against Detroit. It was the best of
all worlds for everybody. If you were a big Matt
eberflu stand. You got an effort, man, You got an effort.
Things look good. Defense played well in spurts against Jared Goff.

(22:19):
You saw Jared Justin Fields come back and make some
big plays, all of it working together, and then you
still lost. Well here you had some of that moving
the ball well. That first drive was nine minutes miss
field goal, but okay, good drive. Couple of drives from
Justin Fields. Then he has the two turnovers where you're
scratching your head. But otherwise, defense played really well, made

(22:42):
Josh Dobbs look like well Josh Dobbs was supposed to
look with his foreign interceptions. And so you had the
opportunity to lose this game and you didn't. Huh, So
you still accomplished a lot of things. Look at how
well our defense played. Look at we're flying around with it.
And then you went and one thing she screwed up.
They win the damn thing. They win the damn thing.

(23:04):
So the second pick and our boss got Shapiro. We
mentioned him before Vikings guy, Minnesota guy, because yeah, wait
to screw up that second pick you had in the
drafted Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Carbon tonight, show brought to by Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes
bundling easy and affordable. Get a multi policy discount by
combining your motorcycle, RV, boat, ATV and more all your protection.

(23:26):
One plays Bundle and Save at Progressive dot Com. All right,
special delivery Steve to say, you have what's trending coming
up in a bit, but you you have something before that.

Speaker 4 (23:34):
Actually, I looked up the box score of the game
you reference. The last time the Bears won a game
without scoring a touchdown was October of nineteen ninety three.
It was six nothing over the Falcons, Dave Wanstead beating
Jerry Glanville as the Falcons were zero to five. Any
guests on the Bears quarterback for that six nothing victory?

Speaker 1 (23:52):
Was it dug Landville?

Speaker 5 (23:53):
No?

Speaker 1 (23:53):
No, no Ah, hang on? Was that Eric Kramer?

Speaker 4 (23:57):
No?

Speaker 1 (23:58):
Not Eric Kramer yet, No, he would have scored more points.
I know exactly who it is too. It's not Eric
cran It's an embattled coach victorious. Yeah, it was Jim Harbaugh.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
Yes, it was Jim Harbaugh against the Atlanta Falcons. Bobby
a Bear who had three turnovers.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
In the game, and Jerry. One of my first TV
partners in this media business thing. Yeah it was six nothing, Yeah,
six nothing.

Speaker 3 (24:25):
What SOBA didn't steal signs that game?

Speaker 1 (24:29):
No, they didn't know the signs that game. Well, the
defense did too long field goals. But wait wait wait
wait wait Kevin but Kevin, but yeah, Kevin butt ageless Kevin.
But that's when I first would have been doing fantasy,
and I don't remember that. You feel like in my
first year, I would remember that game going, Oh man,
I started, Uh, Bobby A Bobby A Bear in this game?

(24:50):
I thought I was gonna against something.

Speaker 4 (24:51):
Man, Billy Joe Tolliver came off the bench, let's go.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
I started, Who was it? Who's the right? Probably Neil Anderson?
Right in ninety three, it's probably Neil Anderson. Jason, you
should to start a game? Yeah, I like and very nice.
You don't even know who he is. I'm just uh, yeah,
Neil Anderson. Okay, all right, I'm trying to think that boy.
That Bears team of ninety three, the Falcons team Andre Risen, Yes, wow,

(25:17):
they got zero points with Andre Riis in the game. Uh,
Andre Rising. Mike Pritchard, Mike, oh wow, Mike Pritchard. Okay.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
And also for the Bears. Somebody named Tom Waddle had
four cats.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
Oh Tom Wattle, legendary Tom Wattle, he was welker and
many catches for Sylvie. How many of it were? That's
actually done? Michael Haynes right? Was he still playing for Atlanta?
Atlanta Mango was still getting after Trace Armstrong thefensive line.
Super good team, but not to score points.

Speaker 4 (25:50):
On the ground.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
Grum Eric p groms for Steve McMichael to carry's minus
three yards for Eric Dickerson.

Speaker 4 (25:58):
I do not remember this, but Eric Dickerson being on
the Falcons for he was in the game.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
No way, Eric Dickerson was there, no man, no way.

Speaker 4 (26:11):
It was Eric Dickerson against Jim Harball, ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
Six notw then final do you think? All right? Now,
I've done shows with Eric Dickerson in the last month
or so for you here at five seventy or Los
Angeles affiliate. Do you think Eric Dickerson remembers that game?
If I said that to him, remember that game you
played when it was six? Nothing? Yeah? No, I don't,
I don't, I don't I remember. I would, I would
ask him next time that game you get a chance. Okay, Wait,
so Bears Bears Bears. So Neil Anderson. It was a

(26:38):
year probably two years too late for cap Boso.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
Kevin Butler, Uh, Wendell Davis Davis Yeah, all right.

Speaker 4 (26:48):
Well two carries for Ironhead Hayward.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
Yeah, oh Ironhead. No too soon for Ironhead.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (26:57):
Richard Dan second and a half, six nothing, Trace Armstrong,
Steve MCMICHAELA man's coming.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
Some of those guys, man, some of those guys still there. Man.

Speaker 7 (27:08):
You got to trade on that Super Bowl for a
long time. Listen, We're gonna still have these guys in
nine years. Okay, Wow, that's a game six nothing. Oh,
I'm so excited. I started the Bears defense. I got
eight for a shutout, I got two I got I
got two turnovers.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
I'm counting. This is back when you would do stats
by hand. Yeah, like I was IRIS commissioner and it
would be okay, So it's six points for the shutout,
you got four points for for the turnovers. And there
are people coming to me on Monday nights because back
when I was working at ESPN and they were come
to Monday nights going, hey, what did I win? Did
I win? I'm like, you can do this that note
did I win to go? I'm working on the pleep

(27:43):
at eleven thirty Sports Center. Man, I'll do it after
and I'll send it out to you. You know what
the points worth? No? I don't. How do you not
know what the points are worth? Falcons even had Chris
Hitting on the offensive.

Speaker 4 (27:52):
Line and Lincoln Kennedy, a former Fox Sports radio co host, This.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
Gonny carries for the fridge. This really really, it's aware
of They now gain Yeah, my goodness.

Speaker 4 (28:02):
My carrier was in that game for the man.

Speaker 1 (28:08):
Was Douglas and it was just him Green. Just thirty
short years later, La Bears win another game. They win
another game. Unbelievable. Nice. Oh now that's a nice tripping
the way back machine. There there we go. Hey, uh,
that's what. What's that website that goes Hey, this game
deserves a deep rewind? You see on the internet. Hey,

(28:31):
nineteen ninety four, it's Falcons deserves a deep rewind.

Speaker 4 (28:35):
It's actually the opposite of an instant classic because it
took thirty years.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
Oh my goodness, finally dredged it up. Oh wow, like
bad things at the bottom of a river bed steep
All right, Steve, but what.

Speaker 4 (28:48):
Do you got for an actual update, you referenced that
the franchise had gone twelve twelve straight games in division
losing until tonight. Of course, it's a twelve ten win
at Minnesota. That twelve game losing streak in division contest
was tied for the longest division losing streak since the
Browns six eight years ago had lost seven steenth straight

(29:10):
in their division. But field goal with ten seconds left
gets Chicago will win over the Vikings twelve ten, as
Cairo Santos went four for five on field goals, including
the game winning thirty yard er. DJ Moore eleven catches
one hundred and fourteen yards. Carolina Panthers fired coach Frank Wright.

Speaker 1 (29:25):
They are one and.

Speaker 4 (29:26):
Ten this year, and updating the NFL draft order for April,
let's see the Bears still have the number one picky
because it's Carolinas and they're one and ten and Arizona
is two and ten and the Bears are still with
a chance of two top five selection number four.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
I just know, and I'm not saying I'm putting this
out there in there, but I just know it. Somehow
the end of the year, the Patriots are gonna wind
it with the number one pick, and I'm gonna watch
Caleb Williams in the AFC sounds about right. Next twelve years,
and I will sit here next to you in the
Fox Sports radio studios for as long as, oh I'm
I stop watching football. I might just stop, but I'll
sit here in a camp of Williams page watch every week.

Speaker 4 (30:06):
Meanwhile, overheard exiting the Chargers loss last night. The Chargers
now have a top ten selection. Can they do for
the April Draft? At four and seven in the NBA,
Philadelphia ripped the Lakers one, thirty eight to ninety five
on a tournament games, Steve, Yeah, it doesn't count. It
was like kind of half preseason half regular season. I
think Joel andb triple double in three quarters and the

(30:29):
Lake games nearing halftime. It is now just to halftime.
Nouge's fifty eight to fifty six over the Clippers, even
though out for Denver Nicola jokicch bad back, Aaron Gordon's
still out with a heel injury, Jamal Murray still out
with a hamstring injury.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
Back to you, that sounds like all the guys have
played in that Bears game ninety night. This guy was out.
This guy was out. This guy was out. Thank you, Steve.
I appreciate it, my friend.

Speaker 6 (30:51):
I just know it.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
I know it somehow. Look, the Panthers fire Frank Reich
today and the Cardinals are going to probably win a
couple of games. Kyler Murray will play better, They'll win
a cover. And I know it's gonna be the Patriots
sitting there at the number one pick. And I'm gonna
have to watch Caleb Williams being coached by Mike Vrabel
for the next decade. I'm gonna say, okay, great, for
the next five years. I got Josh Allen and Tua

(31:14):
and Caleb Williams. But then I'm not gonna have Josh
Allen after all. But I'm still gonna have Caleb Intua.
And I'm still still where Aaron Rodgers is gonna be
seventy five years old, still trying to play to a
tongue of I loo and get Jared Goff's baby hands. Dude,
it's in terms of his hanging on to the football.
I just know it's gonna happen. But here's what hell
it's gonna happen. Like you might have the reinvigoration. I mean,

(31:34):
because Belichick just signed an extension right that he gets
the number one pick, he gets the right offensive guy
in there with him, and all of a sudden they
have a renaissance, kind of like Papovich is gonna look
to do with Victor Weinbnyama. That's what's gonna happen to you, man.
Look and he's gonna be there going, I guess the
rise of the Empire. I'm actually okay if Belichick stays,
because he's been awful the last few years. I'm okay.

(31:56):
He doesn't have Brady, I'm fine. I'm fine if he stays.
He's a horrible coach. The last four years. He has
been a horrible he's problem. Slash GM. Your team can't
get out of its own way. No, but they're gonna
hire Mike Ray. But no, my team's gonna suck regardless.
Just look what happened, doesn't Hey, you want to be
in charge Aaron Rodgers, I'm just gonna have to hire
your guy.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
Hack it.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
Every other team gets the quarterback position right, we can't
get it right. Watch it all happen. Yeah, all don't
cover zero and let Jalen Hurts run wild. Good job. McDermott,
another defensive stiff as a head coach McDermott, iber Fluce Staley, Hey,
hang it all, beat it, celebrate eat tonight. Eberflus won
his first game against an NFC North team. Let's celebrate

(32:39):
him tonight. I can't. I can't even receive that, and
you know and be like, hey, yeah, you're absolutely right. No,
screw that. All right, all right, Steve Desager, I do
have a challenge for you, Okay, for next hour. I
want a play by play from that Bears Falcons game

(32:59):
in ninety three.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
I don't know if that existed in me.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
Doesn't play by play it did, surely they didn't play
by playing. No, probably look what he did to you.
It was probably summer all in Madden doing the game.

Speaker 4 (33:10):
Oh you mean audio, Yeah, because the sheets that they
pass out in the press box. I don't think that exists.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
No, no, no, no, I want no, I want to
play by play from that game. Next hour.

Speaker 4 (33:21):
I will attempt it.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
If you could get an Eric Dickerson carry from that game, yeah,
but I need a play by play from that game.

Speaker 4 (33:28):
Yeah, it would probably give him one carry and a
six nothing game with the Bears, and the announcer says,
I bet he misses his time with the Rams.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
Now, boy, I remember how good Eric Dickerson was. Boy,
I see him end like this. He's probably not going
to play anymore games after this one, all right? So
next hour play by play from that game. Coming up next,
we get into a bigger topic as we talk about
the teams that are contending for the playoffs that really
shouldn't be because there's a big point to be made
about them. That's coming up next right here. Jason and

(34:42):
So we watch the Bears win this game over the
Vikings twelve ten. The Vikings, now, obviously they were expecting
to win this game and stay in the thick of
the hunt for a playoff berth and now it just
becomes more difficult. But let me just let me just
tell you something here about about one of the big
stories from the weekend is that I can't even get

(35:03):
excited about the fact that Aaron Rodgers might be coming
back for the Jets. Not because the season's over, because
it is, but I can't get excited because the Jets
need a new head coach GM. They need everything right.
And I'm not going to say, well, but all you
need to know for Joe Douglas and Robert sala is
the record is what counts, and Joe Douglas is a GM.

(35:24):
The Jets are twenty and forty six and Robert sala
as head coaches fifteen and thirty. Right, So you can
sit here and try to break all the stuff down
and go, well, Joe Douglas built a good roster, did
he because I'm gonnaell you. I'm gonna tell you about
that in a second, right, Robert Salad, No, if Robert
Sala great head coach, does Robert Sala really look like
he has the answers to anything? No, he doesn't. Right,
But just think about this for a second when you say, oh,

(35:46):
whose fault is it? Yes, I get the quarterbacks cover
a lot of ills, and hey, it's expected the Jets
to suck because you don't have Aaron Rodgers. Right, But
look at some of these teams in the NFL that
are contending for playoffs. Right. The Cleveland Browns lost their
franchise quarterback and the best running back in the NFL.
They're still in the driver's seat for a playoff spot. Right,

(36:07):
the same kind of team as the Jets, really good defense.
They lost their quarterback, they lost their running back, they're
still contending. Indianapolis lost their franchise quarterback and their superstar
franchise running back who was one of the top three
running backs in the game, missed the first six weeks.
Still they're contending for a playoff spot. Houston's completely starting
over with a rookie quarterback and a rookie head coach.

(36:27):
Guess what contending for a playoff spot. Denver lost seventy
to twenty week three, and somehow, when everybody wanted to quit,
and Russell Wilson was going to get benched and Sean
Payton was going to get fired, they're now back in
the playoffs. Right. Minnesota lost their franchise quarterback and their
best wide receiver in the NFL, who still hasn't come
back yet. And guess what, Minnesota's five hundred. They're in

(36:49):
the thick of things for the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
Right.

Speaker 1 (36:50):
They will get other teams that are still contending with
bad rosters. The Atlanta Falcons are contending. They had their rookie,
they had their second year quarterback, bench then went back
to them and they're still winning games. The Rams have
a bad roster, They're still right there for the playoff spot.
All of these teams had the same bad luck as
the Jets. They all lost their quarterback. They all lost
more than the Jets did. They lost more than and

(37:11):
look at them. They're finding a way to win games
and be five hundred or a game or two over
and still contend for the playoffs. So you tell me,
did Joe Douglass really build a good roster. Is Robert
Saler really good? No, the Jets need complete change from
the top down because the roster's not good enough, the
coaching's not good enough, because other teams are able to
win with less losing more than the Jets did. And
this is not just one teams well Cleveland, No, this

(37:33):
is Cleveland, Indianapolis, Houston, Denver, Minnesota, Atlanta, the Rams, the Saints,
the Packers. Packers started over at quarterback, they have no
running game, and look at them. They're contending for the
playoffs and they get to play the Chiefs this week.
So here's exhale because I'm going to agree with you,
especially on the Joe Douglas part and the biggest thing
for me with him, and as everybody's talks about the

(37:54):
defense and all right, that was constructed well. And Robert
sala you know, I saw articles that were contending that
maybe he should have been under consideration for Coach of
the Year seeing as what they were able to do
in their record through the first half of the season.
Clearly that's gone to hell. But I would say this
for Joe Douglas, you seated all authority and got mesmerized

(38:16):
by Aaron Rodgers and let him control how you spent
your money, how you allocated resources, and how you built
your roster. Alan Lazard healthy scratch. Was it forty four million?
Not that he was going to see every dime of that,
but just it's a nice, nice number to throw out
there in terms of money. You set in a pile

(38:37):
and watched it burn add Randall Cobb because he's Aaron Rodgers' buddy.
There he is taking up a roster spot, can't get
on the field, hack it. We've chronicled this at every turn,
the play calling, the decision making, the inability to make
either of these quarterbacks functional, no matter what Garrett Wilson

(39:01):
tried to sell you on Tim Boyle before he took
a snap. So you've allowed Aaron Rodgers, a nearly forty
year old quarterback, to build your roster and just say,
have faith in me and my guys. Me and my
guys are gonna get this done. Did you just give
me a voldemort from now on? You put your faith

(39:22):
in me. That's exactly what he did. It's like, all right,
you want me to come here, you want me to
be the guy. Here are my terms? Take it or
leave it? And they acquiesced, and they said, Okay, we
really want to make this splash. Because the Giants had
a lot of good will last year and in the
division you saw the cracks right Miami, maybe you still

(39:43):
didn't believe in Buffalo way last season ended some defections
from their defense that maybe the opening was there. And
then obviously the Patriots being what they've been the last
couple of years, you said, all right, we'll push all
in on you. And guess what, that was a tremendous mistake.

(40:03):
I always want to look that, see that things can
be positive. I thought you were gonna go always look
on the bright side of life, the bright side of town.

Speaker 4 (40:14):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (40:14):
I always want to look on the bright side town
gets off, don't. But that was the new butt fumble
was that. I don't think it's as recognizable. I don't
know that you guys can do that. It takes time.
I don't know. It takes some time. It is little
time to think things over it. We'll play for us

(40:35):
out of it. I want, I want to be positive,
But this is the this is the reality. All these
other teams face adversity, the same adversity the Jets had.
All these other the teams lost their quarterback, and guess what,
they're all finding a way to win with a talented roster,
with a roster that's not as talented as the Jets,
and they find a way to do it. Whatever the
Jets do is going to be wrong. Whatever decisions they

(40:56):
make is going to be wrong again. I really and
when I retire your own guests' ever gonna watch the
Jets again? When I that's it, man, I'll watch the
Mets every single day. I'm not gonna watch the Jets.
