Let's get this parties, you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside our two of The Jason Smith Show

(00:49):
maybe this is the football God's telling us. Hey, the
college football. We've had it at the Bengals. Avin McPherson
with the field goal to give Cincinnati the thirty one
to twenty eight lead with two and a half to
go in the fourth quarter. The Jaguars will get the
football back. Mark Brunell will be in across CJ Bethard

(01:12):
will be in a quarterback because the Jaguars are without
Trevor Lawrence, who just left the game with what looked
to be a very significant ankle or lower leg injury
a few moments ago. Again, it was shocking to see.
It happened while we're on there getting ready to talk
about college football and everything going on with the playoff,
and suddenly Trevor Lawrence goes down in a heap. And

(01:35):
now this has become the biggest story in sports.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Third down and eleven, Lawrence goes down. Ball came out
and Lawrence is grabbing at his leg and he is
in serious pain. Humbolet was recovered by Anton Harrison and

(02:02):
Lawrence can't.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Get off the field. ESPN on the call. You could
hear the yelling that was Lawrence on the field in pain.
Slammed his helmet, slammed his hand on the ground, threw
his helmet off. He got hit and his left tackle
and Jaguars defensive lineman went back and fell back onto him.

(02:24):
His right ankle bent at a really difficult angle under
him and then kind of got stuck in the turf
a little bit.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
And stayed turned. He got up, was really mad.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
You get right away this wasn't like, oh my goodness, No,
he was just mad, pounded the turf, threw his helmet off.
They came out to take him off the field. He
was led off the field. He was able to put
pressure on his right foot, leave the field and walk
up the tunnel. There have been many shots of this
over the course of the past few minutes here on
the game and suddenly everything is in jeopardy now or

(02:56):
is up in the air for the playoffs because of
the way the Jaguar were ascending and Trevor Lawrence is
playing extremely well. But before we get to that, I
gotta say this, Mike. I mean, I I get that
Lawrence probably wanted to show everybody. Hey, I'm gonna tough
it out. Yeah, it's not broken, it's fine, But dude,
how do you not have the cart?

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Come out? Let's just car man bring.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
The card out for him? Hey, shot, Cod, I don't
where where are Where are the carts? You don't have
carts in Jacksonville?

Speaker 4 (03:25):
Is the call? Sorry?

Speaker 1 (03:26):
The cart is carrying my mustache because it's too so
you can't have How about a cart for him? How
about say no, no, Trevor's stay down, stay here, We're gonna
have a cart come out. I don't want a cart.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
No.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Sorry, this is where you get medically overruled.

Speaker 6 (03:39):
That's exactly it, though, Trevor Lawrence just said, nope, we're
doing it this way.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
No, and this way.

Speaker 6 (03:43):
You say, I'm sorry, but this is not your decision.
I want to try to walk this and see how
it feels and everything. And it's it's an uncomfortable even
walk to the sideline, let alone all the way up
the tunnel, because we've seen shots all the way see.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Him walk going, sit down, take a seat, something for
the guy.

Speaker 6 (04:01):
It takes forever just to get him those what probably
twenty yards to the sideline and the grainyes bruter like
film that has already found its way to the interwebs
as well as the walk up the tunnel, like the
entire time.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
You know, a cart could have zip right up there.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Yeah, that's you're gonna gotten him into the you know
machines for all testing and whatever, like in a matter
of a second.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
And it's like the longest walk ever. It is.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
It is.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
It's like, I mean, you've actually gone this stuff too.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Yeah, It's like it was like watching in Pitch Perfect
when when Becca said final leaving a watch er go
like all the way to the door and she's dragging
the chair and finally keeps going finally and the camp says, okay, Becky, wait,
I'm like what it's such a long walk as it
was all the way across.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
The field, here's your franchise guy with.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
The sideline and then into the tunnel, and then the
shot from in the tunnel.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
It's oh, but that's just it.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
It just keeps because it's not done. Now he's still
finishing that long walk. Oh, and there's so you you know,
backing up and keeping him in frame, and you've got
the two trainers helping him down the hallway like it
is really a torturous kind of like obviously for him,
it's absolute agony because you're thinking of the absolute worst,
right because we watched the play as.

Speaker 6 (05:16):
It happened live went, oh he's down, geat ball won't
be out. But then there's the oh, there's the first
replay and it's one of those all right, they're cutting
straight to commercial. They don't want to show this again, right,
because he gets a cleat straight into his ankle with
two three hundred and twenty pound men pressuring backwards into it,
and then he rolls over it on it with his

(05:37):
own body weight, and then you see how angry he is,
how frustrated he is. And then we get that long
walk with the trainers.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
Wait.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Wait, they're showing right behind he's leaving the stadium. He's
walking to the hospital. I can see the hospital in
the distance. He's still walking. He's still there and to
make a walk to Okay, so he's walking to the hospital.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
Now, unbelievable. I mean it was. It's not good like
you're waiting to have some like musical accompanying to it.
You know, I just want to go.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
And of course, because he's walking very slow, and he's
got cleats on, and he's well, I mean cleats on cement,
you get the always like.

Speaker 7 (06:20):
The way is one of the guys escorting him on
one of his shoulders was a police officer, not even
one of the other guys on the team.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
I think it was actually, I think it was actually
the uh Eagle security officer to make sure job you
had to make sure nobody wanted.

Speaker 4 (06:35):
Became a thing. So did they consider that a police escort?
I guess, I mean, yeah, it was. It seemed like
it was just such.

Speaker 6 (06:43):
Had to get that trainline if something else happened.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
It's like, you know, it's like when someone gets hurt,
like at a low level game, you know, the parents
come out and help the person off the field, or
just a teammate comes out.

Speaker 6 (06:54):
Or it takes forever for a car to get out there, right.
I mean, we've we've been part of things with our
daughters and youth sports. I was like, all right, someone
got hurt, Like my daughter got hurt in a game
a couple of months ago where you went up for
a header and got hit and you know, started bleeding
pretty badly. It took like five to seven minutes before

(07:14):
that cart arrived. And it's not that giant of facility,
and their sub was supposed to be manning. It's like,
but it takes forever here. You're a professional organization. And
for the Jaguars, this is one of the few times
that you've ever seen them in prime time, and certainly
not on a Thursday night, no Monday night football has
come to town. And what people are gonna remember out

(07:36):
of that injury is that there was no card availability.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
No it would see you know, and and he's the
franchise and and like you would expect the entire team
to be out there kneeling down.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
Like, oh, you gotta be okay, you gotta be okay.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Like seven doctors are out there with him and assistance
and EMTs, and here's the cart and here's the backup
cart in case the first cart gets a flat tire,
and just two guys.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Yeah, I'm good, I'm good. I'm just I'm just walking out,
I mean, and then one of them mails, and then
we have the police officer.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
Go to the bathroom. You're good, I gotta go. This
is I I don't understand it. I don't I mean,
this is this guy is your franchise. Could you imagine
Lamar Jackson or Jalen Hurts that happening and just like
two random guys just just walking them off the field.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
I really just I was.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Gonna walk him off the field. Yeah, I mean, Mahome's got hurt. No,
no doctors are right now. We just got a couple
of guys here are gonna help them off the field.

Speaker 6 (08:29):
Now we'll we'll await the statements and stuff, but I
Doug Peterson will be asked about that post game.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
He's gonna have the guts to ass no, because he's
still gonna be walking into the somewhere. No one's not
gonna get anywhere yet. He's gotta wait to get will
he gets him's gonna.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
Take forever for him.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
He's still walking right now. He's a Stephen King book,
The Long Walk. He's still walking.

Speaker 6 (08:50):
He's just walking and playing that incredible whole sad music
as he's going up the tunnel.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
I was, you know, really the only thing that would
have made this any crazy if he got caught up
in the kicking net, like you actually got you sipped
up in the net or something. But I really, I
I I fail to see how that was a decision
that was made because look, I I get that in
the moment, being out there and and a football player
of Trevor Lawrence's caliber and the weight that he carries

(09:17):
saying no, I'm good, I'm walking it off. I'm good,
I'm good, and you're out there and maybe okay, he
says he's good, he says he wants to walk it off.
He says he's all right. I've done a little bit
of an examination and he's probably all right enough to
do this, okay, And I can see where the power
of that is just hey, all right, I'm gonna but
this is where you're a doctor, You're a team. You're like, no,

(09:37):
you're Doug Peace Like, no, dude, Sorry, we're bringing the
card out for you. You're too important. You're not You're
not gonna walk off the field, you know, not just
gonna have you with two guys. I don't even know
you know these guys. What's that dude's name? I don't
know who he is.

Speaker 4 (09:52):
Are you gonna come out of the state and the
head of security?

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (09:55):
Look, the but that that's the larger thing, right, It's like,
this is your friend. And as much as you know
you mock me on my my thing about celebrating games,
they're all still still games one through two seventy two.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
Guess what quarterbacks are?

Speaker 6 (10:11):
Different quarterbacks get treated differently all across the way, And
in this I get it. Maybe he wanted to be
the hard guy and he wanted to gut it out
and show the fans all right, not all is lost.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
Come on, let's go. But you're the do you overrule
that the grown ups? You're there, the team? You know,
this has got to be the doctor.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
This is Doug Peterson, this is hey, you know just
got This is not the movies where get me out
and the guy gets up after he was shot. He goes,
I gotta get out there and find the bad guy
before he's got my daughter kidnapped in there, ripping all
the pads off their body, going I'm ripping the ivs out.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
Just get me dressed to get me out of here. No,
it's not the movie, Jason. He's literally the most important
man in the city.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Yeah, yeah, down, yeah, I mean he is duval, He's
due douvall is Trevor Lawrence. Yeah, and we're he's gonna
walk Oh, just gonna walk out, just gonna walk out.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
Unbelievable. Oh my goodness. But look, CJ.

Speaker 6 (11:07):
Bethard is having a better drive than anything you've seen
from a Jets quarterback in a month.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
Again, I will say this better than anything Iowa's had
Right now. CJ.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Bethard, who has come in in relief of Trevor Lawrence,
has now driven the Jaguars. They are just outside the
twenty yard line, although it looks like they're gonna be
attempting a game tying field goal as Bethard is sacked
on third and four. So now the Jaguars have to
come out without timeouts and kick a game tying field

(11:40):
goal thirty one to twenty eight Bengals with the lead
of the I think the Bengals have just called time out. Yeah,
the Bengals did just call time out. I don't know
why the Jaggars would have had to rush out on
the field to kick the field goal, So Bengals want
to keep some time for getting the football at the end.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
I don't know. I think I I think I would
have just let him, just let him kick. I think
let them try to rush on a kick. But CJ.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
Bethard leads the Jaguars down the field again. Everybody else
loses quarterbacks and as guys that come in and can
do it because their scheme is worker everything. You want
to blame the Jets every time I watch, I go, oh, yes,
Aaron Rodgers getting hurt sucks and it screwed the Jets.
But so many other teams and now add the Jaguars
to the list, can have a quarterback come off the bench,
be a third string, come off the couch, and still

(12:25):
drive the team down. This is why, this is what
makes me so mad about the Jets is that they're
a teardown because they're not a good team. All these
other teams have lost their guys and they've all found
a way. But the Jets find a way to wallow
in their pity, not find a way to get out,
and they can't find a way to win games, can't
find a way to just stay five hundred where all
these other teams have done that.

Speaker 8 (12:45):
CJ.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
Bethard has even played. I don't think he's throwing a
football in like a year and a half.

Speaker 8 (12:49):
Four of five?

Speaker 1 (12:50):
What right down the field? Here comes a game time
field goal to send the game to overtime.

Speaker 6 (12:54):
Four of five, forty six yards on the drive plus
a six yard run and hit Trevor atn in stride
for a big play down the sideline. So yeah, they
went back and tied it.

This game is now tied twenty five seconds twenty four

(13:30):
seconds left So the Bengals are going to get the
football back for one truncated kind of possession, potentially before overtime,
but Trevor Lawrence's injury Bethard leads them down. We are tied,
twenty six seconds left to go. Coming up next, we'll
have more on this game and the breaking story involving
Trevor Lawrence's injury. Plus we'll get into all the latest

this is actually Zach Wilson on the Runaway from the Jets.
Oh very good. Okay, I don't want to play. Oh

(15:13):
maybe I do want to play. No, I'm not fast
paced enough. Yeah, there's too much action in there for
it was Zach Wilson to be a lot less action.
We are starting overtime Jaguars and the Bengals thirty one
a piece. If you said this is going to be
Jake Browning and CJ. Bether dueling an overtime. A few
hours ago, I would have said you were crazy, But

(15:34):
because of this play, this is what we got.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
Eleven Lawrence goes down, ball came out and Lawrence is
grabbing at his leg and he is in serious pain.
Fumble was recovered by an It's Harrison and Lawrence can't get.

Speaker 4 (16:01):
Off the field. ESPN on the call.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
Trevor Lawrence rolled into during a play injured ankle. He
was helped off the field in a lot of pain.
Everybody holding their breath right now. The only official word
from the Jaguars is he is questionable to return. I mean,
I can't believe we're gonna get him. He was helped
to the locker round. Yeah, just a lower body injury.
But that's hockey. That's where we're at right now. Jaguars

(16:25):
do have the football to start overtime. We'll have more
on this game as it develops, and of course more
on Trevor Lawrence and maybe why they didn't bring a
card out for him that as well. But it's been
a twenty four hours in college football that have just
been insane. The college football Playoff being official, you know
by now Florida State, Georgia are out. They have cases

(16:50):
to stay in the playoff, not nearly enough because they
got passed over Michigan Washington. Yeah, they're gonna play each
other in the Orange Bowl. You got Michigan, have Washington,
you have Alabama. And look, this is a case of
I can give you a I can tell you exactly

(17:10):
the answer to this question of was it the right decision?

Speaker 4 (17:15):
Right? Because that's the big thing.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
Was this the right Because you've heard Florida State got
jobbed out of this and so did Georgia. How did
they not make it? How did you look at these
other teams? How did Texas jump up? Palace not? But
the only real answer, because the end, did they get
it right? There's three answers you can give to this. Yes,
they got it right. No, they got it right. I
don't know. But the real answer, and the only answer

(17:40):
you can say is a fourth answer, and this covers everything.
This is this, This covers the only real answer you
can give and the only answer we'll be able to
give for a long time. Did the College Football Playoff
comte get it right? The only answer is we'll never know.
We're never gonna know because you can make arguments for
all six of these teams that sound great, Florida State undefeated,

(18:04):
How do you not put under v agency team in Texas?

Speaker 4 (18:07):
Look at what tech.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
If you're putting Alabama, who beat Georgia and Texas beat Alabama,
Alabama's got to be in. Alabama wins the SEC. That's
the best cut. You can make arguments for all six
of these teams, and you can make arguments for all
six of these teams to not be in. Because if
you can make an argument that Florida State's got in,
can you make an argument maybe Michigan shouldn't be in.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
Well offenses that they played through the year right, Virtually
all of them are at one hundred or worse.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
They didn't play a good team until they played Penn State.
Penn State's offense is abysmal, and they played Ohio State,
who is a good team. They win that game, but
clearly not the wins other teams have on their scutt
You could make the case. And that's the thing is
that to say that this was right or wrong, You
can't say Washington escapes. You just don't know. Sure, we

(18:54):
knew too deserving teams were going to be left out,
And I'll tell you we're never gonna know the answer,
because when you can argue for all six teams, you know,
we're just not going to get the answer. Look, and
and all this comes down to a very simple premise.
You have five power conferences, you have four spots. Math
doesn't work, and it's been lucky and and the NCA

(19:19):
has been lucky that up until now they've avoided the
Hey are we keeping blue.

Speaker 4 (19:24):
Bloods out of this playoff?

Speaker 1 (19:27):
And when you're arguing between Cincinnati getting in and TCU
getting in in Texas A and then you can say, well,
you know what, that's fine, But now you're talking about
Florida State, you're talking about Royalty Georgia who lost their
first game in two almost three years on Saturday. All
we're not getting in. When you talk about blue Blood's
not getting in, that's what's gonna make change. And again,
if this happened eight years ago, we would have had

(19:49):
an additional playoff of twelve teams the next year.

Speaker 4 (19:52):
Well, you can't let these teams out.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
Okay, we need a change in the change now, but
they had always been able to avoid it up until now.
Now you can't and you couldn't just come home to
roost and it's okay, Well, next year we have twelve teams.
No for this year, this is a really big deal.
But the only answer is we'll never know. Because even
if if Georgia crushes Florida State, or Florida State crushes Georgia, oh,
they deserve to.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
Be in the playoffs. How would they do against Michigan?
How do you don't know?

Speaker 6 (20:17):
We don't know that even and then a lot of
it's gonna be dismissed to while they weren't motivated. Isn't
that what we always get for the team that gets
left out or sent to a lesser bowl.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
One team was motivated to prove wrong, the other team
not motivated.

Speaker 4 (20:30):
They thought they were done.

Speaker 6 (20:32):
I mean, how many guys opt out because the game
now doesn't suddenly doesn't have quote meaning no, right, we
got the nobody's surprised. But Caleb Williams not gonna play
in USC's Bowl game. I mean, yes, they're still playing
New Year's Day and all of those you know, when
we talk about the Big six and all Georgia is
still playing. But are all those guys gonna play? All

(20:55):
the guys that are getting ready to go to the NFL?
You sure that they're all lining up for this one.
We got a month to find out. But you know,
motivation is a big deal. And the argument really, you know,
I turn it on its head. It's it's really, did
they get a TV show? And does all the anger
and vitriol going on here is it going to get

(21:16):
people to tune in?

Speaker 4 (21:17):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (21:17):
Correct, because you've really done it. You've you've turned so
much interest into this. Now the other Bowl games are
a big deal, and that and that's and that's the
other big fallout from this is if someone says, why
did we get these teams? Why do we get Michigan
in Washington and Texas and Alabama? Why do we get them?
Why do we not get Florida State in Georgia?

Speaker 4 (21:37):
Right, So the.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Only answer is for the first question is we'll never know,
because we're never going to know. Why do we get
these four teams? We talk about it for the NCAA
tournament in basketball all the time. Remember, this is a
television show. What is the best television show? It's these
four teams. But that's what about it. If you're saying, hey,
we need to pick the best television Look, we got

(21:59):
six teams that are great, So we're picking the best
television show because quite honestly, that I agree with, because.

Speaker 6 (22:05):
We fight for our best deserving whatever. I understand the
Georgia argument. How do I be one or two all year? Yeah,
lose to the squad. I'm the best team now number five? Oh,
you know what, you didn't win your conference?

Speaker 4 (22:16):
Yea.

Speaker 6 (22:16):
And while they blew apart everything else that has been precedent,
because how many times did you hear that word over
the last forty eight hours precedent. As much as they
threw a lot of that off to the to the wayside,
they did still stick with did you win your conference?

Speaker 4 (22:31):
Yeah? No, but Floria sexd Wait a minute, but we won.
We won undefeated. Unfortunately, five is greater than four.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
But look at look at the six teams, and they'll
tell you. Michigan great television show, Jim Harbaugh, the controversy,
Heritage Team, Michigan great. Trying to watch them, watch the pregame,
to see the packages that you do about the cheating
scandal and everything else. Washington, great television show, Right, great Quarterback,
Great TV show. Alabama, phenomenal TV show. We've known that

(22:58):
for years. Still box stars at college football. Texas great
TV show. Why because it's Texas. Now you look at
the teams that got left out, Georgia, but they're the
two time defending champions. George is not sexy.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
The average college hate watching maybe, but yeah, not sex.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
If I said the average college football fan, who's the
quarterback of Georgia this year, they would go, uh, oh,
it's Matthew Stafford. Yeah, Matt's Matthew Stafford. Like it's Buck
Blue is the quarterback?

Speaker 7 (23:24):
Wow?

Speaker 4 (23:24):
Nice Carson Beck.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
But it doesn't matter because Georgia is very anonymous. They're
number one, but they are anonymous, right, so they're not
as good television as these other four teams. And Florida State, Hey,
with Jordan Travis, it's a pretty good television show. He's
really excited. He's a really good quarterback. But without Jordan Travis,
are they great television? The game against Florida not great

(23:46):
game against Louisville, even though we'll get into that game
coming up later on, because they were so unbelievably impressive
in that game. Not great television. So you're looking at they,
I would rather them just say, hey, we had six teams,
we couldn't figure it out. We won the best television show.
Those four teams, Those are four teams everybody be excited
to watch because we looked at and said, if we
have Michigan play Florida State, everybody going crazy for that game.

Speaker 4 (24:08):
No, because while.

Speaker 6 (24:08):
Michigan'snna kill Florida. You saw Michigan wanted to hear they
named Florida State. They didn't want to hear Alabama. That
might be the greatest video on the Internet of the
last week, miss and I've seen a lot of crazy
things that go across TikTok x and everything else. Man,
that was just so great, the deafening silence.

Speaker 1 (24:28):
Great Alabama, we don't have their signals. Great, we had
Florida State, we don't have Alabama.

Speaker 4 (24:34):
Wow, we didn't need it because they had a third
string quarterback. How good of a TV show? Is that?

Speaker 1 (24:39):
Not a great TV show? Because you know Florida State
is going to have trouble scoring, so that's out. Oh
but wait, but Michigan Alabama, that's a fantastic TV show.
But on your will never know. That's the young Sheldon
of College foot nically done, getting ready to finish.

Speaker 6 (24:53):
It's run here seven seasons, but I proposed it last
hour You know, and as we were discussing this a
little bit in passing like I wonder aloud and I
know obviously our guy bou Corgan had said it last week,
and we really hammered it to open the door to
just make sure people understood this was probably going to
be the case that that excuse making for Florida State

(25:16):
would be there at a ready excuse to leave them
out of the top four. I'm still wondering if in
the an honest discussion, even with Jordan Travis, whether they
would have made it.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
It almost felt like, okay, definitively now going back to
remember we told you that they were looking to leave
Florida State out We told you that a week ago.
Congratulations everybody who jumped on that take yesterday, But we
told you a week ago tonight, Hey, they're looking to
leave Florida State out right.

Speaker 4 (25:42):
Pars those words from boom Man. He laid it out there.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
When when the head of the CFP committee says, yeah,
good team, but different team without Jordan Travis, it almost
felt like at that moment, no matter what Florida State did,
they weren't going to pay. We're gonna need to win
by like forty points and even then where you're gonna
get him, no, and then you didn't know if you
had the right quarterback whatever. Like at least there would
have been a more I think, maybe a little.

Speaker 6 (26:06):
More of an argument to it. But like I said,
I don't believe even if Travis had played, and you
look at his numbers and he's good, right efficient, twenty touchdowns,
two interceptions, I take nothing away from the player he's been,
and certainly nothing from the squad because as you alluded to,
I mean, you talk about guys rising up, and come
draft day, we're gonna see a lot of those guys

(26:27):
called on the first day, no question. But when you
get down to it, for compelling reasons, and look, Florida
state with a long storied history. Obviously the Bowden run,
we saw it a few years ago with a big
run at Jameis Winston and all of that. But when
it comes down to what's the most compelling TV show,

(26:49):
those other four teams trumpet every time.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
Look, I'll always remember it's a television show. The super
Bowl is a television show. The NCAA Tournament is a
television show. Well did Syracuse get picked instead of Monmouth?
Because Syracuse is a good television show. Why did Why
did North Carolina State get in instead? Because North Carolina
State's better? But it's a Remember it's a television show,

(27:12):
and they want people to watch, They want you to watch,
so they're gonna put out what they think is the
best product on TV and the best product leading up
to it. You want to keep all kinds of relevancy
going on. But like I said, how much interest would
there be if Michigan's playing Florida State? It's oh my god,
what's the spread in that game going to be twenty five?
If Michigan was twenty two point favorite over Iowa, what
would they be over Florida State?

Speaker 7 (27:31):
Probably at least two touchdowns? Jason, Right, But until now
that it's never happened. No, But it never been about
the TV show till now. No.

Speaker 1 (27:37):
But because they had to make a pick, well, it's
always it's.

Speaker 4 (27:41):
Always been there.

Speaker 6 (27:42):
This year you had these six teams to where their
hand was forced to make it a definitive decision.

Speaker 7 (27:49):
Prior to Sunday, Mike, what Power five conference, the champion
that went undefeated in the season was left out?

Speaker 6 (27:55):
No? No, But that's the thing, right, just because there
was precedent. This was the last hurrah. They're not beholding
anybody off of this because this is the last data.

Speaker 4 (28:05):
But I'll tell you this, but Phil and I'll blame
Carrie Rhase when he sits in for you on Wednesday. Listen,
they failed.

Speaker 1 (28:12):
Listen, there's no Pack twelve. And if you can't blame
the PAC twelve does not exist. Doesn't exist.

Speaker 4 (28:17):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (28:18):
If it was the same situation, okay, and Georgia was
playing say Texas A and M. Texas A and M
one loss team playing Georgia A and M beach Georgia
to win the SEC. Does A and M get in?

Speaker 4 (28:32):
Or does Georgia get in?

Speaker 1 (28:33):
Ooh, Georgia probably gets in. Well, the pageantry of Georgia.
They won the last two championships. Can they win three
in a row. Yeah, we kind of like that, so
we'll take them. But the power of Alabama, and because
they were Alabama overrode everything. Think about that. A team
that could have been going for three national titles in
a row, which you think would be an amazing storyline.
Whoa three national titles in a row? My god, look

(28:56):
at the know what we've never seen. This goes back
to like the nineteen fifties and er Royal or Army
when it was Army and Navy. No tre Dame, Oh
my god, going back to Arab parts, sig and all.
They could have but they said no, which tells you
how good television. Georgia is a team that could have
been going for their third straight national title, said yeah, sorry,
you go from one to out. That's what it is.

Speaker 4 (29:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (29:17):
I will say this one thing that really irked me
from Saturday afternoon when this all started flowing in through
anything I saw in the ex world and clips is
showing up from shows. The twenty nine game winning streak
doesn't matter in terms of the determination of who was
getting in for this year. I get it, it's there.

(29:37):
It's a great story. All that mattered was their record
for this year and they got beat by Alabama for
the conference title. Like it don't like, it doesn't matter.
Kirby Smartt was great. He did a great speech talking
about I don't know how you tell me there are
four teams better than us, and I think I agree
with him. However, However, that's not how it's played right.

(30:00):
We're not doing a video game circuit. We're not dragging
this out it's not anything more than a glorified you know,
TV pageant as it were. And Nick Saban like I'd
run through a wall off of his pregame speech. It
was fantastic because one of the lines was they went
and took what it was yours and he goes, I
don't want to see that guy smiling at the end

(30:21):
of sixty minutes. And he named checked Kirby Smart during
that discussion. So it's it's the type of thing that
and I get it, the anger and vitriol of it all,
you know, thinking you've done everything you can. It's a
gruesome reminder that even in the world of sports, where

(30:41):
you're supposed to have wins losses, that's supposed to be
success failure and set you up to the next phase. Yeah,
life's not always fair.

Speaker 7 (30:50):
If I'm a Floridas day player, no way in hell
I show up to the Orange Bowl. No, well, that's
a thing right now. We talk motivation, you're also a
team and a school that was talking. We we had
it months ago, talking about all right, we how do
we get out of our contract? And looking at the
rights deal was what twenty thirty five or something like
that in terms of what they were gonna need to

(31:10):
buy out. But this certainly tells you.

Speaker 4 (31:13):
You know, in the world of hey, there are five,
some are more equal than others. See, I got I
got animal for me. Here you go, that's where do
you go? I'm an educated man on a Monday night.

Speaker 7 (31:22):
Let's go explain the millennials what an animal farm?

Speaker 1 (31:25):
No, no, I don't have to because everybody's taking generation. See,
they all have to read it in school.

Speaker 4 (31:29):
They do. My daughter's reading it now, she did not.
They want to ban it.

Speaker 1 (31:32):
Yeah, yeah, well, I said, I said, she's reading Animal Farm.
I go, did you get to the part at the
end when when the alien comes in?

Speaker 4 (31:39):
Just what? I go?

Speaker 1 (31:40):
Yeah, oh, I'm said that I spoil it for you.
I said, oh, yeah, the alien's coming at the end.
She goes, wait what.

Speaker 4 (31:46):
Yeah, yeah, the alien's coming at the end of the animal.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
Farm and they're standing on two feet along with the pigs,
and I go, oh boy, wait, that actually was a spoiler.

Speaker 4 (31:53):
Okay, now let's just let's let's just let's go fast that.
Let's go fast that. And then the blue girl from
Marble comes and they all switched places. Eh.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
So again, Remember it's about a television show, and that's
why we got the four teams we did again. How
bad television? Forget about Florida State and offense again three
straight national titles?

Speaker 4 (32:14):
Yeah, no, no, no, not not interesting. Do you think how
many lawsuits do you think are gonna get filed? Ooh man,
I don't.

Speaker 6 (32:21):
Just remember Auburn. Blame Auburn. Send a lot of your
hate to Auburn. Right defend a fourth and thirty one?

Speaker 4 (32:27):
You dopes.

Speaker 2 (32:30):
Louisville.

Speaker 6 (32:31):
They came out and they were terrible. They got dominated
from pillar to post. They were number fifteen. Yep, it
shows you what number fifteen means.

Speaker 4 (32:39):
Yeah, yep.

Speaker 6 (32:39):
Didn't do much there. Ohio State, you had a chance,
you were number two in the country.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
You failed.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
So you know, there's a lot of blame. And then
people tried to make it political and get it say
you know why they got left out. I love that
Trump tried to blame Desanta's mart Yes.

Speaker 4 (32:55):
The Santa's fault. He didn't want to Florida because of that.

Speaker 1 (33:00):

in Jacksonville, and just like we expected, Jake Browning leads

(34:19):
the Bengals to victory. Four point thirty one in overtime,
game winning. Game winning field goal by Evan McPherson wins
it for the Bengals, who go to six and six.
Browning on the night three fifty four and a touchdown.
We'll have more on him coming up in a few minutes,
but look, obviously everybody waiting with baited breath for the

(34:43):
results of the Trevor Lawrence injury. He goes down in
the fourth quarter. It was a tie football game. The
Jaguars were driving. He goes back to pass on a
third down play and this.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
Happens third down and be leven Lawrence goes down. Gaul
came out and Lawrence is grabbing at his leg and
he is in serious pain. Fumble was recovered by Anton

(35:21):
Harrison and Lawrence can't get off the field.

Speaker 4 (35:24):
ESPN. Joe Buck on the call.

Speaker 1 (35:26):
He was helped off the field, didn't get on a cart,
which we'll get to and right now. The diagnoses that
we're getting where to get some postgame coming up soon.
It is a sprained ankle for Lawrence. The injury looked
very serious. He was in a lot of pain. He
threw his helmet off, he pounded on the ground. He
was taken off the field by a couple of people.

(35:47):
You saw his ankle turn a couple of different ways
beneath him. Potentially his d a little bit too. But
it looked like right now, all we're getting is the ankle,
and this could be an injury that affects the rest
of the season, because look, this is a Jaguars team
that was hot, that looked like they were competing.

Speaker 4 (36:05):
Hey, we're coming for them. We're coming for the number one.

Speaker 1 (36:08):
Seed in the AFC, because suddenly the Chiefs have some
issues and as good as the Ravens are, Ravens aren't unbeatable.
And hey, we saw the Dolphins are winning. But hey,
this was a Jaguars team in an easyish division who
was going to be able to make a lot of
hay in the schedule, and now everything is up in
the air waiting for the result. He's going to have
an MRI tomorrow, but right now, that is the diagnosis

(36:32):
that we're getting. Sprained ankle for Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 4 (36:35):
CJ.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
Bethard came in played pretty well in relief of him,
was able to ninety yes sixty three yards led the
Jaguars down for a game time fielder before you know,
the Browning rifle wins it in overtime.

Speaker 4 (36:46):
TJ.

Speaker 1 (36:46):
But look this Trevor Lawrence thing, this is okay now
suddenly the play because look I had him in the
AFC Championship, you had him in the Super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (36:53):
This is a really, really big deal.

Speaker 6 (36:55):
Don't you had the opportunity for the path of least resistance.
Looking at the AFC South, nobody can to scene CJ.
Stroud and what's going on in the planet Houston. But
they have issues of their own. Our guy Tank Dell
is now unavailable. Broken leg had surgery today. I mean,
Nico Collins was a guy I tried to hype in
fantasy and everything, and he had a one hundred ninety one

(37:16):
yard day yesterday. But we'll get to them. You look
at the schedule for the Jaguars down the stretch. They're
at Cleveland and then they play those same Baltimore Ravens.
It's a home game in Jacksonville on the seventeenth, that's
currently scheduled to be a night game on NBC. Then
at Tampa and then finishing the year against Carolina and

(37:37):
then on the road at Tennessee. So still some winnable
games there curious to see how the offense changes.

Speaker 4 (37:45):
CJ.

Speaker 6 (37:45):
Bethett again A quitted himself nicely coming in here down
the stretch, and you know, you look at the Bengals
are now back on the in the hunt category for
a playoff spot.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Jake Browning, His name was Jake Browning.

Speaker 1 (38:02):
We will have more on the Night of Jake because
there is a big takeaway from what we are seeing
with all these backup quarterbacks leading their teams into postseason contention.
Keep it right here, the developing story of Trevor Lawrence continuing,
Jason and Mike
