I'll help you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free roadhazard protection at over ten thousand recommended installers tirack

honekah present. Tonight was awful, Mike Harmon, it was awful.
What happened cause I got Christops porzingis coming back for
the Celtics to night.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Oh, making my first eight shots. Oh, I'm coming back
against the Knicks. H.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
Yeah, he was on fire to get things started.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
I mean, I mean, I'm not Jewish, but I figured
on Hunt I would get some kind of you know, hey,
the Knicks will do something.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
No, I don't get that at all.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
I mean, look, you're trading on my name during the day,
so like that negated any good will that you would
have gotten, which meant porzingis follow followed up after that.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Yeah, nothing, nothing, nothing.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Terrible, man, terrible. Yeah, just a bad effort by your squad.
I mean they at least made it interesting for a
little while in the fourth because really I turned it
off after a while. I was watching we bought a zoo?
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Oh nice? How did it end? Did they buy the zoo?
Speaker 4 (01:43):
Well, they had already bought it. Now you had to
make it make good. I mean, it's got scar Joe
in there.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
Even a hank a miracle couldn't help the Knicks.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Well, although I got to say after it was over,
I'm a little the thing that with twenty seconds left,
why he's still in the game. Jalen Brunson steps on
a Celtic player's foot, turns his ankle and he.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Limps off the court.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
So that's what I'm really like, you know, really, with
twenty one seconds left, and we're what is Come on, man,
come on, We're down twelve points with twenty seconds left
to go, and he steps on Peyton Pritchard's footwaxit.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Game, man, yeah, just remember game. This was the year
of Taylor Swift and what is one of her songs?
This is why we can't have nice things? There you go, buddy,
I not really how it goes.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Why was he in the game? It doesn't go like
that at all. Bethy thinks it does, but that's okay.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
Well, I mean I can't hit her vocal range. I mean,
I'm not trying to do an impersonation here. This is
not me wandering aimlessly in the land of Berman. This
is me just paying tribute to a song that I
enjoy that was really appropriate in this time of your
nick sucking before a national audience, and then in the
(02:53):
final seconds, for some reason, your star is still in
the game.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Well, and you know, well, first of all, I had
a fun line about you dating Donna Kelce, but let's
move past that, because why was he still in the game.
Why I don't understand why he was still in the game.
You're down twelve with twenty seconds left, because he's still
in the game. Why is he still in the.
Speaker 4 (03:11):
Game because he's Tom Thibodeau and Jalen Brunson wanted to say,
I thought to the end, why I was respect my
work ethic? Why Knicks fans?
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Why was it? You know?
Speaker 1 (03:23):
I was the Jason Spitzer with Mike Carbon live from
the tirec dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
We'll have all night to talk about all the Knicks.
Look at the Nicks.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
I don't have anything.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Yeah, we are hopefully the Mets getting Yamamoto at some point,
but you get nothing in like it. Speaking of what
today was all about, coming up in fifteen minutes, we
got John Paul Morosi stopping by. M there'll be Network
Insider or coming up, sorry, next hour on the show.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
John Paul Morosi stops by.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
And remember he was at the center of a huge
firestorm on social media today because depending on what you believe,
shoe Heo Tani either was flying to Toronto to sign
with the Blue Jays, was flying to Toronto just to
meet with them, was not flying to Toronto at all,
and was in southern California. So one of those things
happened today. We had JP tweeting out early in the
(04:10):
day that that Otani was on his way to Toronto,
and social media was going crazy, and I'm tracking a
plane that I think.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Is Otani's plane. I'm like, this is all were.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
You really doing?
Speaker 1 (04:21):
D you went down that road? Well I did it
yet because I cut well, because you know it. Zoway's
too old now to do the Santa Claus thing. So
you know on Christmas Eve, Oh what there's Santa He's
in Austria.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
He moved in there.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
There's in Czechoslovakia now Czech Republic area as I moves up.
Now he's in Ireland areas. So it's kind of fun watch.
I felt like it was like a college football recruiting thing.
Mac Brown's plane is now seen landing in Austin, Texas.
So I was kind of tracking the plane. That's an ah,
it's a Tani's plane. Well, then we find out a
couple hours later, Bob Nightingale John Hayman to other baseball insiders,
(04:52):
Uh say no show Otani was not on the plane,
not traveling to Toronto, and was still in southern California.
So to vote, the inimitable mister Blond and reservoir dogs
either live or he's dead or the cops got him
or they don't. So either Otani is going to the
Blue Jays or he's going to the Dodgers, or he's
going to neither team.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
And we have nothing.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
But at least I could say it was a fun day.
I mean, today was a fun today.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
We got the first fun Otani day.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Because Otani being so buttoned up and the potential threats
that have gone out there, don't talk about us meeting
with you. It's you, Dave Roberts. That's you in Chicago,
that's you in Toronto. You know, it's not been fun.
It should have been more fun for us. This whole
thing should have been more fun. But today was a
fun day, man, I'm telling you, tracking planes and trying
to see if I had the right one, and oh
that was at least we had a fun day with
(05:42):
Otani today there, so even though we don't have a resolution,
it was a good day, my Carmen.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Yeah, it's difficulty of it all, and certainly, you know,
when we talked to JP will flesh it out a
little bit more. For me, it's not so much the planes,
trains and automobiles kind of thing of trying to track
track him down and all I will call out the
use of the term as soon as today, because that
(06:07):
means nothing to me. In a reporting scan, you know,
and in anything, anything can happen as soon as today,
could be today, could be tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Right.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
But but it's like that's a waste of words, it's
a waste of characters. Right, It's like the Aaron Rodgers
stuff of two weeks ago. He could begin practicing, could
begin practicing as soon as this week. What does that mean?
It means it's nothing.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Just try to it's not far off. It could actually
hit you.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
That's fine, And then you use the word so that's
problematic too. Imminent means hey, there's a pen in his
hand and there's a piece of paper showing up to
so you know, word choice, you know matters when you're
talking about a five hundred million dollar guy.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Okay, but it's not like it's December thirteenth and someone
you know puts out and tell you, tell your kid, hey,
Christmas is coming, and it could.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Be as soon as today. No, it's not, it's not today.
It's good. I mean you might be going on a trip,
so you need to celebrate it on the thirteenth.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
I don't know that rates.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
I want to celebrate it on December thirteen, So it's
not commercialized, and I want to make chriss no.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
I kind of as soon as say it could happen today.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
It could happen today, It could happen tomorrow, it could
happen to it could happen.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
I'm just gonna say it could happen.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
Just saying that's all you need to say, because because
if it could happen, guess what, it could happen at
any point in the near or distant future.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
But it was.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
But it was exciting, right. Obviously we were on AM
five seventy this after with Rodney Pete. I sat with
a headset on because they teased that I was in
with Rodney on their Twitter account on the phone never
Rang Twitter account, Mike Harbot's coming up, Yeah, phone never Rang.
I had lots of thoughts and I just had to.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
Mike, do you get Jason's check?
Speaker 4 (07:53):
I get nothing? You know how that works?
Speaker 5 (07:54):
Well, your name's on it should be. It's just it's
just Jason today.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
It's just on social media.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
Doesn't does that feel?
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Does not count?
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Does not you worked for free like the Knicks, It
does not count. The Knicks still got paid they you
know they they.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
They James Dolen is their owner. Do you know that
for a fact?
Speaker 1 (08:11):
Why was Brunton in the game? Just don't mention this,
So I come back to why was Brunston in the game?
Why was he still in the game? Why was our
best player?
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Because there might have been something having to do with
margin of victory, uh, in the final analysis of things.
But yeah, just not to belabor that that that point
for now, We'll get back to your Nicks and the uh,
you know, just blowing horns and laughing at them all
over the course of the night. But with the Yotani thing,
you're right, it got everybody activated, whether you know it
(08:39):
was the guy from Shark Tank getting off the plane
with his family or all the other details that go through, UH,
insiders fighting a little bit on Twitter, some just sitting
on the sidelines going excellent and watching the fight go down.
It got people activated because it became a well, if
this domino is gonna fall and this is done, let's
(09:00):
move on to Yamamodo, let's move on to this guy,
that guy, the other guy, JD. Martinez, whatever the case
may be, other higher profile position by position free agents
that maybe it gets things in motion, right, because we
didn't see a lot of it. We saw the trade
between the Yankees and the Red Sox, Craig Kimbrel, my
friends in Baltimore. I go good Luck for a season
(09:23):
of sweating Kimbrel, and then I had to explain it.
So it really wasn't as funny. Oh yeah, And I
wasn't on air to do it. I'm like, I don't
want to text this. We'll do this next Thursday. When
I joined you, guys, I was for three hours. Who knew,
although you know, some of the stuff I was saying
didn't sound like me.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
No, no, no, no, no, it was it was there was,
I mean, the voice was richer, there was much more clarity.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
You got a lot of it's really good looking.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
I mean all these things you can tell by the voices.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
You can tell that all absolutely like Costanza, absolutely the
opposite of reality. But no, it's but it's fun, right,
You guys got had some juice and you're following this
and the texts are coming out and guys are you know,
shaking their fists up and down. All the memes started,
So yeah, on a Friday, it was in the news dump.
(10:13):
Without the news dump.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
You know, and if you're looking at like, how do
you how do you break down exactly what happened today,
because potentially absolutely nothing happens to me.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
Yeah, it's kind.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Of like when we look when we when there's a
big court case that matters in sports, and we say, okay,
look we're not in the court, we're not in the
jury box. But this day seemed like it was a
better day for the prosecution. This is a day it
seemed like it was a better day for the defense
right all the way through. It's like, who was the
best day for today? Well, i'll tell you in order,
it was the best day for the Blue Jays and
the Dodgers, because clearly it seems like these are the
(10:45):
two teams that are now down to the end for Otani.
And if you had to say who had the best
day that nothing happened in I'll tell you the Blue
Jays did, because it's a big shock that they're in
it this deep. And could it be about driving up
the price, Yeah, but look, the Dodgers are gonna give
Otani whatever he wants, so it's not like it matters.
(11:06):
He's like, well, he's gonna give us this, He's gonna
know this. I mean, Toni's gonna get whatever the hell
he wants to. He knows the Dodgers market, he knows
what LA is like, he has been outside of LA
for the past few years. He has a great working
knowledge of the Dodgers market. The fact that Toronto has
been in this and now continues to stay in it
all the way to the end, and visits going on
(11:26):
there and all the stories that go along with it
tell me this is likely Otani's preferred destination for whatever reason.
And there's a lot Toronto has to offer, which we
can will get to coming up, because you think, oh Toronto,
it's a small amount. Now there's a lot Toronto has
to offer a superstar like Otani. But for Toronto to
be in it this long, you have to wonder if
(11:47):
this is where, Hey, I had an idea for a
long time about going to Toronto. And we've heard that
from some insiders who have said, hey, Otani has had
like his career planned out for the past few years,
like after he gets plays for a while, this is
where he probably he wants to go play because suddenly
Toronto's in the mix, Like, is Toronto gonna win World
Series after World series. No, are they gonna be competitive
every year? Are they gonna be in it? Yeah, in
(12:08):
theory they are. It's been thirty years. Baby, let's go.
They're not a team. You're going out saying, boy, now
he's gonna win three or four rings. So what Toronto
is there? Because obviously he has some kind of preference
for Toronto. So if you're handicapping who's who's in the
lead right now and who and who's in the driver's seat,
I would say Toronto's in the driver's seat, and the
(12:28):
Dodgers are hoping. Okay, let's see if he comes back
to us, and the reason we're going in and making
sure that everything he wants to do in Toronto he's
going to be able to do whatever he can accomplish
in his career. I want to make sure I can
do it there. And that's why all of this interest
in Toronto is there. So I would say I'd say
Toronto first, and then the Dodgers and then you know,
well it could be a mystery team.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
You never know.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
But I think today, the last couple of days, it's
been better overall for Toronto.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
When you when you just look at the excitement that
flows through. You had the meeting in Duned and you
know their winter home home and spring training and all
that stuff. And then it flows into a lot of
scuttle butt at the winter meetings in Nashville and into
today and all the excitement you look at the team. Uh,
you can go into the tourism stuff, which I'm sure
(13:15):
you've done a deep dive of all the things you
can do and how many different styles of poutine you
can eat, all of that that You've got a good
young base to this squad and you bring him in
and just like that in the Al East. You know,
you could be the guy that keeps the Yankees at Bay.
There's there's some cachet to that.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Right, sure, look you could you could. We could answer
the signing of soda. We could do that. Look, look
I got And it's about personal preference too, right, it's
you know, if Otani wants he likes to speak French, Yeah, man.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Maybe maybe he does.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
We wee home run twitter at How about a fresco
Mike hat swollen down the Jason smithser with Mike Carmon
live from the tyrec dot Com studio. So I'll tell
you if it would be Toronto with the lead first
and then the Dodgers. However, justin Frostburg has a news
here on O TWI where he might be in the
world right now, Frostburg, What do you got.
Speaker 5 (14:11):
Guys show? Hey Otani was spotted at the Golden Nugget
in Las Vegas with an a's backpack.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
What maybe we saw him sitting courtside for Lakers. I
mean he also had Yamamoto doing that like everybody taking
in all the sites. But yeah, potential for craziness. And
obviously in Toronto they primarily speak English, but lots of
languages represented Therein.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
To go to the theys have no money, it's a hell.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
Of a too well, but they'll be flush with money
soon enough, right.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Well, coming up in twenty minutes, we have John Paul
Morosi on the way, who was at the center of
the biggest firestorm of the day, Joe hey Otani traveling
to Toronto, and then it was reported that he wasn't
traveling to Toronto, So wait, just.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (15:09):
We got JP coming up in about twenty minutes, because
that was just a fun story today to follow and
who's on a plane and who's not. Can you imagine
what it must have been like if if you were
on that plane that supposedly took off from Anaheim to
Toronto and you just get off the plane and there's
all these cameramen and photographers that are taking what happened?
Speaker 4 (15:25):
What's going on here?
Speaker 3 (15:26):
What? What? What? Why are we taking my picture for? Oh?
Speaker 1 (15:29):
You thought Otani was on the plane? Oh yeah, no, No,
just me, Marvin Johnson. I'm an accountant. I live in
Orange County. You want my picture?
Speaker 3 (15:38):
My family? No, we're good. Okay.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
I was gonna say, just a normal day of air travel,
my man, let's go. But yeah, look for some it wasn't.
I don't think JP's gonna tell us how much fun
it was.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Oh yeah, I'll tell you, I know.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
I mean, look in the end, right now, we're just
trying to figure out and sort across the t's dot
the eyes and figure out what's real what's imagined because
his team ain't given us a whole lot of anything
to work off of. But I'm glad for the guy
from Shark Tank that he got some run.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
Yeah, that's so again.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
We'll have more on this story with John Paul Morosi
coming up in a few minutes, but time to take
a look at what is yet another big weekend in
the NFL Jets.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
Well, I do want to say this first. I do
want to say this first.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
All day in my feed, everywhere else, you know, pictures
of Zach Wilson in practice, and all the Jets said, boy,
he's never practiced like that. He made throws that I
can't believe he made, like Tyler Conklin was saying, and
some of the Jets offensive line were going, wow, I
saw that through.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
I'm like, wow, that's a great throw. That's unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
And what did Tim Boyle have to say about it?
Speaker 3 (16:47):
He said, blank, you.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
Rogers, rogers.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
They cut me rogers. He got to bring me back.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
I do want to say this, because I'm being serious
about this. If they finally decide to let Zack Wilson
and say screw it, go ahead, throw downfield, do whatever
the hell you want, and if he goes for three
hundred and three touchdowns and the Jets beat the Texans,
I'm throwing my television out the window. I'm throwing it
out the window that the Jets are done, and now
(17:14):
they finally What have I said for so long?
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Let the guy throw?
Speaker 1 (17:17):
You got him to be a quarter You can't win
when you keep telling him, don't make mistakes, don't make them.
Of course the guy stinks. What do you keep telling
him don't make mistakes? If they turn him loose and
suddenly he's great, spraying the ball over the field, rolling
out left, stopping, throwing all the way back right, Garrett
Wilson's wide open for a time. Really, I'm gonna pick
up my television and throw it through the window. Even
if my television doesn't fit through the window, I'm gonna
(17:40):
make it fit. So I need a new TV and
a new window because that is to That's gonna drive
me absolutely crazy, Mike, And I'm like, why I'm even
watching football.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
I'd even be happy if that happens.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
No, But here's the problem with it, right is you've
tried to work within structure. You've tried to work within logic.
Now it's hackets logic, which as we know, seems to
only really work with one quarterback, right, and it works
with Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Uh huh.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
Somehow they communicate. It's like twin. You know when you
hear them talk to each other and there's a secret
language that they have and you're looking at him going,
what the hell are.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
You even saying? Yeah, that's what I think those two
guys have.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
When when Hackett tries to work that with any other
quarterback and pick one throughout his career, and look, I
don't think that Russell Wilson's made that much progress. You know,
the inner touchdown interception ratio is better and all. But
I think if you go back and watch all those games,
not like he's made dramatic growth out and it is
fully blameless of that relationship. But with Hackett, Jed, you
(18:40):
just get out of the way. So what you're saying
is abdicate anything related to structure and system and go
play on instinct. Play like you're throwing beyond the buick.
The season's over.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
Let him do his thing, right, I mean, they should
have done this already, right, They should have absolutely done
this already because that's the guy they draft from the Bean.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
You're not gonna win again.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
This is a big shortcoming of Robert Sala that I
talk about the guys that glorified defensive coordinator and he
and and offense. All it's been is be boring, don't
make mistakes, be boring, be boring. You can't win that way.
That's not if it's not nineteen eighty seven, you can't
win that way.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
No, no, no, we're.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Still gonna throw No, no, we're still gonna call plays
and now if they turn them loose any Mike, I'm
telling you, I'm gonna throw my phone in the ocean too.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
My phone is.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Gonna be gone, and any device I have where I
can actually see things happen electronically.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
I'm gonna get rid of. I'm just gonna get rid
and throw them away. I'm throwing. I'm to do it.
I'm I'm gonna retire. I'm Chris Rosso.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
I'm gonna throw them away because I'm not gonna be
able to I'm not be able to stand. Oh, look
at the Jets. Hey, they've only done this six weeks ago.
Maybe they'd be in the playoff chase.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
I can't. I can't do it, Mike, I can't do it.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
No, you'll you'll get sucked back into it. Because this game,
it'll be close. Right Houston at three and a half
point road favorite over under. This one's thirty three.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
Yeah, not a lot of points.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
No, not good for anybody. No, uh, Tag Dell, you
know you don't even get to watch him match up
with the sauce.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Yeah, yeah, well I'll get you go Collins, good luck.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
Oh I like me some Nico Collins now and now, well,
you know a little bit of a different receiver than
Tag Dell certainly, and Dalton Schultz is still banged up,
but it doesn't look like he's gonna go. But you know,
it's exciting times for you as a Jets fan. Look,
you had your Black Friday game and you claim that
you walked away and then they sucked you back in. Well,
(20:34):
this week, make sure you've got something on the list.
Here's what I'm gonna go do as soon as this
turns and goes to hell, because it's gonna be early,
So you got to make sure it's early enough that
everything's gonna be open on a Sunday with kickoff here
in Los Angeles at ten, I mean by eleven o'clock,
I guess the malls will be open. You can go
power walk.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
What a day for Zach Wilson three hundred yards in
the first half on boiv No.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
What you'll do is you'll start writing a monologue from
Monday night in between our two Monday night football games
that we'll be covering, to talk about how great he
is and how it's you know he's back. It's like
Crosburg interjects with anything about the Lakers. It sends me
that greasy dude, you know, with his chain all the time.
You're gonna do that. It'll be the Zack attack. Zach Zack, Zack, Zach.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
All we need to do is this guy.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
Tomorrow night we will find out will Halliburton have some
sort of celebration to top off off his dame time?
What does he do to the Lakers?
Speaker 5 (21:34):
Look at you? Look at you. You're gonna be hate
watching that, aren't you.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
Now? I got other stuff to do. I'll be at
I'll be at my kids soccer game, and then I'm
planning to you know, there's a holiday holiday holiday party
for us to all go to.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
There is Yeah, what's the party?
Speaker 4 (21:52):
You didn't you didn't get an invite?
Speaker 6 (21:54):
No?
Speaker 4 (21:55):
What party bens?
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Oh No, I didn't get invite that No neither did I.
I didn't although he has invited me every year in
the pan.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
It happens it's he's always Zoey's birthday weekend, and and
that today I had never able to go.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
I didnt get no, I didn't get one this year.
Speaker 5 (22:07):
I guess he stopped inviting us.
Speaker 4 (22:09):
Well, I mean, you got several days before Zoe's birthday,
so you got plenty of time to go, and you went,
and you went to Disney with her on Wednesday, she
had her party stuck at Disney.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Look at Disney.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
The Jason Smith Show with the Mike Carmen Live from
the Tirack dot Com Studios the now. Obviously, if that happens,
I throw my TV out the window. But before that,
Bills and the Chiefs the other game of the Day.
We talked to the Big Game Talk Big Game of
the Day with Jason Cole. Earlier in the show, we
talked to Philadelphia, Dallas. We'll have more on that coming
up this hour. But I'll tell you what in a
(22:42):
week where the Bills have had to tamp down this
controversy over the ridiculous Sean McDermott comparing, you know, trying
to get his motivate as team four years ago by
invoking the hijackers from nine to eleven. I know, it's
been that kind of week. But gimme the Bills in
this game. And I was I was ready all in
(23:03):
on the Bills even before Isaiah Pacheco was ruled out.
It's gonna be very difficult. He's been their best player
offensively the last few weeks. And the sick and the
fact that the Chiefs still struggle, I mean, forget about that,
you know, for the Jets for a second, not getting
a quarterback of the deadline doing something else. The biggest
thing that is going to effect, because you're talking about
(23:24):
now teams that can win the Super Bowl, is the
Chiefs not getting a wide receiver. They needed to absolutely
go get somebody the deadline because it's just not the same.
Mahomes is not having the same kind of season they
got by last year, and they had the right mix,
and I'm sure they figured, well, we change a couple
of guys out, we have Sky Moore, maybe Justin Ross
comes back, we drafted Rashie Rice.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Well, you know what, none of that really worked.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
I mean it worked a little bit, But now you're
talking about, hey, we got to the deadline and we
don't know that we're the same team and there are
wide receivers who are out there that they could have
gone to get And this is gonna be a case
of the Chiefs are gonna rue not doing that because
they can be shut down. Now you watch the Chiefs
get shut down. They're not scoring as much. You either
(24:08):
can see the lack of big plays that happen. There's
no big chunk yardage like you normally get with with
the Chiefs. You get a lot of drops by the
Chiefs wide receivers who are not trustworthy. Even with the
best running back they had in years of Pacheco, they
still struggle. Look at Mahomes. We're not even talking to
even MVP. No, not even close anymore. For Mahomes, it's
(24:28):
just not the same and that's what they needed to do.
This is a Bills team that is incredibly desperate if
they lose their seasons over because they'll go to six
and seven. And what's happening now? But this is a
Josh Allen game, the Josh Allen revenge against the Chiefs game,
which is always gonna happen all going all the way
back three years. Give me the Bills in this game.
The Chiefs are just not good enough and you're seeing
(24:49):
it now, and you're going to see it start to
get exposed as the time goes on. Boy, they really
are stopping Kelsey from owning the game. And the wide
receivers are in a special and it's just been too
much of a struggle for the Chiefs this season.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
I see one line looking at a full board, there's
two places that have it as high as the Chiefs
minus one and a half. And then I've got one
right mech dab in the middle that makes it a
pick them forty nine being the latest total that I've
seen coming off of bye week. This controversy, it's curious,
right and McDermott talking about it being a hit piece
(25:25):
of whatever else. The timing is most certainly curious, right.
We talked about that last night. It just like what
now after four years? We talked about it with Jay
Glazer a little bit as well. So wondering how much
this does percolating and guys being asked about it as
you head towards this game. But it is an opportunity
(25:46):
for Josh Allen. We have seen the Kansas City defense
be a little more susceptible to the big play, and
certainly the one man gang that is Josh Allen, he giveth,
but boy, he does take it away too. An opportunity
here with that puel headed monster, Murray and Cook in
the backfield, Kincaid rising up, all those great things for
the Chiefs. You got tyreek Hill. Tyreek Hill's gone. Sorry,
(26:11):
wish tyreek Hill? No, no, so he's gone. So the idea
of being sorry writing the note in his place. You're
trying to replace him with Rashi Rice and a bunch
of guys. Right last year it worked. Everybody's still lead,
everybody's still finding their spot. And Kelsey you've had games
where he's been disappeared, which has just been really interesting
to watch. Still has one or two of those plays
(26:32):
of the how the hell did he get so open?
But those are fewer and farther between home game where
it's a pickham in Kansas City. Really, Jason, what are
we doing here? Homefield advantage doesn't exist anymore of Arrowhead
is not that place. Yeah, I'm on board of the
Bills in a big spot. But if they lose, boy,
(26:54):
you want to talk about the fire under the seat
of McDermott really starting to rise up?
Speaker 1 (27:00):
Oh yeah, yeah, you're gonna get McDermott as squares. Mcdermot's
on the hot seat right now after this one hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
Where he always was there already was there at a
six and six record, right but now it's even hotter
because you've been losing close games. And yes, Josh Allen
has made a number of mistakes, there's no denying that whatsoever.
But we always talk about in the margins. It comes
down to coaching and being able to coach in big situations.
And right now they have failed. So who's the fall guy?
(27:28):
And sure as hell ain't Josh Allen.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
Joining us now on the hot line.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Long time friend of the show, MLB Network insider Extraordinaire
and Lions Picker Extraordinaire John Paul Morosi JP, what's happening, Buddy?
Speaker 3 (27:48):
What went on today?
Speaker 6 (27:50):
I'm doing great, gentlemen, Thank you as always for had
me on the show. Friday night is always a great
night to be talking sports. And yes, it's been a
little bit of a busy day today, my friends, as
you might well imagine, and so I'm glad I can
end this frenetic day with the with the conversation with
the two of you.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
All right, so take us through today what happened. You
had the story that he was going to be in Otani,
was going to be in Toronto, and then it was
it was it was said later on by a couple
of other insiders, he's not there.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
Take us through it. What happened?
Speaker 6 (28:21):
Sure, So the first and foremost thing I'll say, and
I've acknowledged as much on Twitter. I made a mistake.
I reported, based on some information I had received fro
multiple people, that that he was going to be in
Toronto today. As you mentioned, I did not report that
he was signing there, just that he was going to
be there, and and that was inaccurate. He did not
(28:44):
travel there, as Bob maightin Gelleler's reported. He ended up
staying in California. And and so we wait some more. Again.
The Blue Jays are certainly part of this. The Dodgers
are too, The Giants R two, the Angels have not
been eliminated, nor have the Cups, so that that final
group of five that we've talked about a lot is
(29:04):
is still part of that group. And we're waiting to
hear the decision again. I reported today that his choice
is believed to be imminent, that people connected the process
believed that he would make a choice before the end
of the weekend. I still have no reason to doubt
that information, that he's that he's nearing a decision. But
but again, the the exact whereabouts of Otani. I was
(29:26):
told that he was flying to Toronto, and in fact
he did not, So that that's a mistake, and that
is on me.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
He couldn't have been with the Mets, right could he
have been with Yeah?
Speaker 6 (29:36):
I could so, Jason, I wish for you that I
could have reported that that he was, that he was
gonna fly all the way to to Pearson and then
and then fly to New York and surprise the world.
But uh, but that would have been that would have
been doubly untrue. So uh, I'm just trying the best
I can to get to get the train back on
(29:58):
the tracks. In terms of what I've got on Otani,
I do know that Yamamoto is of high interest to
the Mets, and so we'll see how the Mets pursuit there.
So I would not get your hopes up on Otani
and the Mets but I do think that Yamamoto and
the METS, that's one of the stronger opportunities out there.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
It just seemed like it was going to be a
nice tie, a nice bow on everything JP because well,
it was six years ago today that he became a
member of the Los Angeles Angels. So it just seemed
like there was a nice circle and a loop to.
Speaker 6 (30:29):
Close exactly exactly. That was not part of That was
not part of my thought process. Insure the report that
I made was based on the information, But I did
when I saw that, and I was aware of it
afterward that it was the same day, so that there
could have been a parallel there. But as it is,
we're gonna have to wait a little bit longer and
we'll see where he goes. I think the deeper I
(30:51):
go into this and the more people I talk with,
there are a lot of different theories about where he
is going to go. And again, I do think Toronto's
part of the final mix, but it just appears like
it's not decision time quite yet. And we know this
that when he first came over six years ago, he
kept everybody guessing until the very last day. I think
(31:13):
he liked that quality of mystery about what he's doing.
And certainly, my friends, today would be described as a
mysterious day. For me, it was a little bit serious
a year ago. Certainly it was a different experience for
me at the Winter meetings where there was greater certainty
on the big stories. But much I think, much like
(31:35):
a lot of things in life, you learn something new
every day, and I think I learned a lot on
this December the eighth.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
Well, if you really wanted to just get at you know,
the people that gave you some bad info, here's an
opportunity across four hundred plus affiliates with the Big podcast
network and of course the iHeartRadio app so you can
have your airing of the grievances.
Speaker 6 (31:54):
No, no, no, no, no, this is on me, my friends.
I've learned. I've learned, uh for for a long time
that when you have the pleasure of being whether it's
in social media or or on television or on the radio,
when you've got the pleasure of a platform and and
you're you're lucky enough to have it, you've got to
(32:15):
be a good steward of it. And you've got to
you've got to handle it the right way and and
I screwed up today, So so that that's that is,
there's no no mistaking that that's on me. I'm the
one who's got the microphone, so to speak. And and
the mistake in the air is mine. So, uh, you know,
we we've all been friends for a long time, and uh,
you know what, we've had a lot of had a
(32:35):
lot of laughs on the air in our conversations. I
suspect that one day soon I'll laugh about this day.
Maybe not maybe not quite right now. I mean I'm
getting there. I'm getting there, guys, I am because I
do realize there are certainly more more serious things in
the world, and if Showy o'tana took a particular flight today,
(32:56):
I'd like to think we have a little more perspective
on the greater things that are going on. But for
me and for my purview, that was that was a
pretty big miss today based on based on my reporting,
and that mistake is mine and mine alone. Who's funny.
I was explaining to my kids today, I said, kids,
you know, Dad, Dad screwed up at worked today. I
(33:16):
made a mistake. And my my eight year old, said, Dad,
I think that's probably going to be on YouTube forever.
I said, I think I think you're right. So from
the mouths of Babe, my friends, they're they're they're usually
right to the core, and that she was on that
one too.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
You can never go to Toronto again.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
Here's from now. Hey, you want to see my dad
on YouTube. Wow, it's got twenty million views.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
Yeah, yeah, how bad.
Speaker 6 (33:42):
He screwed up? And yeah, it's it's tough. I I
they're certainly going to have to be some some ownership
of the mistake. And I will take whatever whatever teasing, critiquing,
uh shall come my way because it's all believe me
you Uh it's as the great Todd Jones, a long
(34:03):
time Tiger's closer, once told me, John, this is a
boot cheer business, and what we do in our jobs
is also a boot cheer business. Maybe not quite an
exempt that it is when you're a major league closer,
but it is a little bit when when you're us,
at least me on a day like this. So take
ownership of that one and made the mistake.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
Well, I gotta say this, JP, and you know you
want to talk to silver lining in the day, is
that this was finally a fun day. It was a
fun day. With otide because you know, I'm on the end.
I'm trying to find a plane. Is this the plane
that he's in that he's gonna let's gonna land in Toronto.
This was a fun day, Like finally we were able
to immerse ourselves in Otanian. Maybe he's gonna go to
Toronto and maybe he's not, and maybe he's in there,
(34:45):
and maybe he's not, maybe he's in la And it
was at least something that finally we could all we
could all get around and say this is kind of
fun track in this and and see it is right
and where this is. This was finally a fun day.
So I want to give you that silver lining for
this story.
Speaker 6 (34:59):
I agree, Yes it was.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
It was.
Speaker 6 (35:01):
It was exhilarating and in a lot of ways, and
then maybe for a while not in the way that
I wanted it to be exhilarating. But we'll we'll pick
up the Sunday to come up tomorrow. There'll be more
stories to talk about on the show. And I just
screwed up. And I think that i'd like to be
able to tell you that it's my first mistakes as
a journalist. It's not. And guess what I'll make some
(35:25):
more mistakes here as time goes on there is That's
probably the one. The one thing I can report with
absolute certainty is that I'm going to make more mistakes.
And I tell that to my hit, to my kids.
I'll tell that anytime I'm in a college journalism class.
You know, for Professor Morossi, here has made mistakes and
it made a big one today. But fortunately you got
(35:48):
an opportunity tomorrow to hopefully make up for it.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
And beyond there you go, Professor Barrossi, why couldn't the
Dodgers get Eduardo Rodriguez to come another three hundred and
seventy two miles?
Speaker 6 (36:00):
That is an excellent question. What I would tell you
is that Eduardo's thought process obviously changed from in season
to off season. And the thing about the Diamondbacks that
appealed to him, first of all, their sales pitch was excellent,
did a really good job, I think of selling him
on everything that it meant to be a Diamondback and
what they could offer him. Also remember this, and I
(36:22):
think it's important for him from a family standpoint. You
can live at home year round, and when you can
live at home year round in Arizona, you got spring
training right there. That's a really appealing thing to be
able to do, and so I think that from that perspective,
it was a very positive thing for Eduardo. You're right
though he said no to the deal if the trade
deadline did not work out there. Geography might have been
(36:45):
part of it. Finances may also have been part of
it back in the summertime. But I'll say this for
Eduardo and his agent, they did get more guaranteed money
than what he had left midway through the year. So
from that standpoint, that was a good bit of agent
ying the representative their Gene Matto.
Speaker 1 (37:02):
Now, I like, I'll tell you of all the things
on social media, so I think my favorite was. You know,
you were on MLB network early today talking about the
other big free agent's gonna sign yo Chinova Yamamoto, and
you talked about how the Mets are one of the
favorites and they're in it at the top, and well,
somebody is involved in a Mets fan a Twitter page wrote,
(37:22):
oh my god, John Morosi said the word Mets on purpose,
and they put a jiff of themselves fainting like, oh
it's news for the Mets.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
My goodness, look at this it's fantastic.
Speaker 6 (37:31):
Yeah, I know the Mets are certainly in there on Yamamoto,
and you know there's some other possibilities for them to
to where do we see them add a bat? I
think right now they're more or less focused on the
pitching side of the equation because when you consider what
they've lost since last year, even if you go back
to the last offseason, obviously they did add Berlander then
(37:53):
corustrated them away. There's a lot of innings they have
to replace and they need to work on that in
a big way I think going forward now. And so
from that standpoint, Yamamoto they believe can help them address that.
But the key question now for Yamamoto and the Mets,
if he goes there, is he able to start an
every fifth day? And if he can't, then you really
(38:14):
have to go to a six man rotation and you're
not actually necessarily taking the spot of your fifth starter.
You having to address and build out your rotation one
more spot. So the Mets, even if they get Yamamoto, Jason,
that's not the last edition they'll make. They have to
make some more moves there, all right.
Speaker 4 (38:31):
Juan Soto, now a member of the Yankees, we had
talked about Verdugo the other night, is like, well, they
might not be done, and then they're able to go
and make this move and bring in Juan Soto. How
quickly do we get to the word of the five
hundred million dollar extension.
Speaker 6 (38:47):
Well, that's a great question, and Mike, I don't think
it's going to happen until after the season is over.
I think he's going to be on the Aeron Judge
plan where he goes to free agency. I believe at
least that's how it looks right now, and potentially us
the market. You're so close, you've got a chance to
And I'm sure Scott Boris is watching carefully the showy
Otani sweepstakes and saying, Hey, if I can, if Otani's here,
(39:11):
can I maybe find a way to get Soto in
the same neighborhood. So I'm sure Scott Boris is very
eagerly looking at things and wondering what he'll be able
to get for Sodo. A year from now. I think
Soto's gonna hit free agency. I think he'll make a
tremendous amount of money in free agency. And a big
reason why is he is set up to have a
monster year with Judge and Soto right side by side
(39:35):
in this Yankee lineup. As we talked about before, the
Yankees second fewest home runs by lefty bats all season
long and twenty twenty three. They need someone like Soto.
They've got him, and they also have Grisham to help
in the outfield as well. To me, the key thing is,
LeMay you going to be healthy. If he is, it's
a very different Yankees lineup. You look at the pitching
staff as well. I think they probably have to add
(39:56):
some arms in there too. So the Yankees are not done.
They also like Yamamoto, I'm sorry to say on that, Jason.
So we'll see how things go there. But it does
feel like the last couple of days, I've really gotten
this out. So of going with Soto going to the Yankees,
that was the move they had to make to get
their offense looking much more like an offense befitting the
(40:17):
legacy of Ruth and Garrick and all the great lefty
sluggers over the years.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
All right, JP, now let's just go here. Let's go
here now.
Speaker 1 (40:26):
Because the Dodgers are the ones they're just kind of
hovering over everything.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
The Dodgers are in it for here. They're in it
for here. They could make a big trade with the
Brewers at Domis and Burns.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
Could be headed to La if the Dodgers miss out
on Otani. If the Dodgers miss out, I expect them
to strike quick, to strike big, and maybe make a
trade like that. That's kind of like the Shureser Turner
trade two point zero. Do you think the Dodgers go quick?
Do they are they more measured? How do you think
they react if they don't get Otani?
Speaker 6 (40:53):
Yeah, it's a great question. The Dodgers, certainly, they have
built a lot of their flexibility. When you look at
how much or how little I should say money they've
got committed for twenty twenty four, it was all to
have the opportunity to be able to make a big
run at show Hey this offseason. That's how they've organized
their payroll and their overall structure was with that exact
(41:14):
idea in mind. And so as a result, I do
expect them to still spend if show A goes elsewhere.
They're not going to spend just to spend. But when
you look at this team, they've got some needs now,
and it's not just a bat and obviously show A
this year would be a bat only. They've got to
figure out this pitching rotation. Clayton Kershaw's a free agent.
(41:35):
He may come back in the middle of the season.
They have a lot of innings. They have to really
capitalize and find a way to replace. Dylan Ceese is
someone that I know that they've looked at. We have
to keep an eye on him. Corbyn Birds as a
possibility too. The Dodgers have a ton of money to
spend and some really good prospects to move to bring
in the players that they want. So I think that
(41:56):
as much as Otani is the focus right now on
the on the hitting side, because that's what he is
in twenty twenty four, I think the Dodgers' greatest needs
are on the pitching front, and they certainly want to
have an at bat against Yamamoto in terms of getting
him into the organization if Otani goes elsewhere JP.
Speaker 4 (42:14):
Lastly, the Detroit Lions are on the road at Chicago.
They are three point road favorite forty three the total
as our NFL guest picker on Friday nights, what say you?
Speaker 1 (42:25):
You are five and one JP in picking line, you
are five and one, JP, nice.
Speaker 6 (42:31):
All right, here we go. I have got the Detroit
Lions one seat seven and the Chicago Bears twenty. The
Lions find a way to get a big road win
at Soldier Field as Dan Campbell's guys continue moving to
not just the playoffs, but a high seed in the playoffs.
As the Lions continue as they say forward down the field.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
I'll tell you he likes picking the Lions. He likes
them scoring twenty four and twenty seven points almost every
single week.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
At John Morosi.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
That is at John Morosi MLB Network insider JP as always, buddy,
appreciate it, Thank you so much. Sorry about today. I
know there's gonna be bigger, better days ahead. And when
the mess make a big signing, I'm gonna call you
middle of the night and we're gonna drink beer together
on the phone.
Speaker 6 (43:17):
I appreciate it, my friends. This is you know. You
win some, you lose some, and the best thing about baseball,
like life, is you got a game every day. So
we'll suit up tomorrow, we'll do our best, and I
appreciate the support and love is always, guys. Thank you
so much.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
You got it man. We'll talk to JP.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
Have fun all right, you know, honestly, Look, that's how
you do it right that, That is how you do
it where it's like that's like a master class in
journalism right there. Hey, everybody's not always right, and it
happens that way. And when you're right, there's nothing wrong
with saying, Okay, hey I missed it right, it happens
that way. But it's so much now that it's all
it's this, it's that, and people are so that's how
(43:53):
you do it right there. I mean that that's a man.
That's a man standing up and saying, look, I got
it wrong.
Speaker 3 (43:58):
It happened. I'm gonna be wrong again.
Speaker 1 (44:00):
But as long as you're right way more than you're right,
that's how it goes. Man, That's how it goes in
this business. You're you were predicting the future all the
time and that's a tough thing to do. But I
give JP all. I mean, coming on with us tonight
and everything else and doing that. That was just awesome,
awesome stuff from him. Man, I'll tell you one.
Speaker 4 (44:16):
