Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome in Side hour three The Jason Smith Show

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Well dressed hobo.

tiraq dot com the way tire buying should be. Now,
before you get back into the two minute report for
the Knicks and the Sixers, uh, I just want to
say because this is a real weird moment I had today.

(00:56):
So I get up today normal like I normally do.
I get up, make sure the world is still there,
start getting our stories ready, stuff we're gonna talk about
for tonight. I have the TV on, and notice I
didn't send you anything today that might offend you. There
were no McDonald's stories, you said, I am a lot
McDonald stories, like Jason might like this, but you know,
I didn't send me doesn't want anything, you know, outside
of his mets purpose. He didn't send me any There

(01:17):
was no McDonald's stories about it. And I got plenty
of stories. I usually get one McDonald's story from you
every day.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
There's a lot of good stuff that just you might
not know about and our audience would like to know about.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
So, you know, I put the TV on in my
office and I turn on and Thelma and Louise was on,
and I'm like, oh, I haven't seen Thelma Louise in years.
And I and you know, I'm watching all I'm doing.
I'm saying to myself, wow, this was. And I started
thinking back to what a groundbreaking movie it was. Maybe
it's a it's a Butcher sun Dance modern day with
two women in the lead like this is. You know,
this is nineteen early nineteen nineties. You didn't see movies

(01:50):
like that. Brad Pitt jumps in becomes a star from
this movie. Christopher McDonald, I thought was gonna be a
super duper star in Hollywood because he was amazingly funny
in this movie, you know, Harvey Kaitel. It was such
a great cast. The story was so gripping, it was
and it was full of drama and it had comedy.
I'm going, wow, I go I know this got nominated
for Best Picture, but wow, I really I want. I

(02:12):
wonder if I look back and see the year, if
if you look back and say, now, if you're giving
the Oscars at this point, Thumb and Louise would win,
I go back, I go, oh no, that was Silence
of the Lambs.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Never mind Silence right, never mind, you didn't even let
me play the game, mister, I think right, Best Film,
Best Director, Best Actor.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
But it only won the the only non like of
all the big awards, like the Big eight awards, like
the only non Silence of the Lambs. I think they
won Best Screenplay was Tholmon Louise. There you go. But
I'm like, I forgot, I'm like, boy, it was such
a good movie. It was and all the different things
about it where it was done so incredibly well and
and I was wow, like any other year, like that

(02:51):
might have been the movie, like that might have been it.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
But it stands to test the time, Like, that's one
that you can go back and it hasn't it hasn't
been aged or to where like, all right, the premise
doesn't work, right, It's still often imitated. The ending is
off still often referenced in television shows.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
So I'll hold your hands and going on in this show.
Sorry spoiler, but the test of time? Right, Hey, do
people get this reference? Yeah, they're gonna get this reference
because people still watch this. But you know you want
to go. I'll give you a game because I looked
this up, because I looked because I spent like a
little rabbit hole time. Yeah, okay, it went down that road.
This was the last time two women were nominated for
Best Actress from the same movie, right, Both Geena Davis

(03:33):
and Susan Sarandon were nominated for Best Actress for Thelm
and Luise. They didn't win, obviously, Jodie Foster won. It's
happened five times in history. This was the last one,
the most recent one nineteen ninety one one. What was
the most recent one before that? What was the movie?
Here's a hint. You're not going back more than twenty years.
Tell you went back to the fourth it happened one night.
Was it something with you know, Greer Garson. No, no, no,

(03:56):
you're not going back that far. The last time that happened.
Take a few minutes think about it. I'll give you
some time to think about this last time. Does it
include the.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Evil old Weezer?

Speaker 4 (04:05):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (04:07):
It does include Yes, it does include Shirley maclain.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Now I can't think of the damn name, but it's
not Steel Macnillas.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
But it was Shirley McLain. You got it, Shirley McClain.
And she won. It's the only time. It's the last
time that that she won, because she won. Shirley McLain
and Debra Winger terms of endearment last time. It's very good. Yeah,
very good. Look at you getting that, not even looking
it up on your computer. It's very impressive computer. Just
so you know, Mike Harmon's computer is black right now,

(04:36):
there's nothing on it, not looking anything up. Don't need
to know anything.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
It is on the timer right to it's uh, you know,
password protection in case you rogues.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
But very good. So the two minute report for the
final two minutes of the Nick Sixers game last night
has come out. Yeah, and the big thing everybody is
focusing on. Is that. Yes, Tyrese Maxey was fouled twice,
not once, but twice on the inbounds pass in which
the Sixers lost possession that resulted in Dante Divincenzo's three

(05:05):
that gave the Knicks the lead in again, the Knicks
would beat the Sixers, and the Sixers all went to
the locker room crying and complaining about the officials. You
had multiple.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Files, not called a timeout, not called I mean there,
let's let's trade it on. Let's better, okay, let's let's
let's let's get into this.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
If you're betting on a one leg at Joel embiid, yeah,
you lost. Sorry about that. Uh, let's deal with first
things first, the two minutes, the two minute, The two
minute report that came out had a bunch of things,
so it wasn't justice. Referees did not have a final
last because you had to be called stufford do we know. Yeah,
you had Maxi pushing off on Josh Hart to start

(05:43):
the play. You had the two fouls. I don't think
that was um the two minute, No, that was there.
That was the first to say. Hey, first thing, Jason
Smith wants you to know uh. There was a foul
that was not called on uh that would have put
Anobi at the free throw line. So there was a
bunch of pretty long there's there's a lot of things
in the final two minutes, but let's focus on the
two big things that they say, Hey, uh, Maxie was

(06:07):
fouled twice on the inbounds pass and Nick Nurse did
try to call it him out and didn't get it.
The timeout thing, Let's deal with that first, because that's
just that's just stupid, because Nick Nurse tried to call
time out for one second one second, and then he
pulled his arms arms out to say, I don't want
the time out anymore. If he didn't want the time out,
he would have dropped his hands. If he was like, oh,

(06:29):
I can't get it done. You I can't get he
pulled his hands apart, like no, I don't want it.
And then he says, well, when they were for the
loose ball, they tried to call a time out again.
When Maxie was on the ground with the ball, they
didn't give him the time out. The Nicks wound up
stealing it away and getting the basket. So let's let's
deal with the with the the timeout part. First, as

(06:51):
I told you, it's one second. Even if the if
the official was looking at him and going to blow
his whistle, he goes time out, time out. No, no
one had that reaction. They're gonna see at the end.
Oh he doesn't want it. I'm not. I don't think
it was sharp.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
I mean, obviously we're doing radio, so folks aren't seeing
your sharp. You count it count to the one hooper
conductor like thing with.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Time out. No count to one, count to one one thousand.
That's how long he called for a time out for
one one thousand, and then he pulled his hands out
so and he thwds his hands and no referee is
going to see that in the first one third of
a second and put his whistle up and blow it.
They're on quicksilver. It's not gonna happen. So we by
the time by the time you look up to go, oh, no,

(07:33):
he doesn't want the time out, all right. Secondly, the
Sixers didn't have the ball on the ground when and
beating a couple because you and beat at the end
of the game said oh, me and a whole bunch
of players who all tried to call time out. They
didn't have the ball. Okay, Maxi did not have the ball.
You can't call timeout when you don't have the ball.
He's on the ground. You got to have the ball around,
both arms around it, and you call up and call
time out. Maxie didn't have it. So they're not going

(07:55):
to get the time out on that. So that's that's
the last play. Now, let's deal with it from a
for an angle that we did last night, which was.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Go New York, Go, New York Go.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Maxy gets fouled on the inbounds. Okay, let's deal with that.
The Sixers have implied and said that, oh, the referees
took the game from us, implying that had that foul
been called, we would have won, which is just stupid,
and it's the Sixers. It's the Sixers not focused on
the right things and looking for excuses, which again is

(08:25):
why the Sixers are on my never again list. That's
why I don't pick them do anything, because look, they're
focused on the wrong thing. They would have you believe
that if that foul call was made, they would have won.
That would have been it. Okay, if they call the
foul at that point, right, say they call the foul,
MAXI got the ball, they called the foul, or they
give Nick Nurse the time out. I'll give you either one.
Let's say they do either one of those. Sure, there's

(08:48):
twenty seven seconds left in the game. The Sixers either
have the ball or they're shooting free throws and they're
up to that's the game situation. I really thought you
were gonna have full Harvey Kaitel or to go. He's
alive or he's dead, or the cops got him, or
they different Harvey Kayitel movie. That's when Harvey Hotel was
a cop in like every movie in the nineties, right,

(09:09):
good cops, bad cop, bad lieutenant, Lieutenant you know you
shouldn't have bet on the Mets radio in his car
bet against the Mets. That's what happens. It can't be done,
but that's what the situation was. To think the game
was over is just stupid because it's twenty seven seconds

(09:30):
left and you still have to navigate and win the
rest of the game. There's now Would you have had
a better chance to win? Absolutely hundred percent. I'm not
saying you wouldn't. You have the ball, you're up to,
but maybe you missed the free throws. We watched Joel
Embiid miss a bunch of free throws, but the Sixers
don't want to focus on that. That an eighty eight
percent free throw shooter missed four and that could have
been the game right there. Now, let's not focus on that.

(09:50):
Let's focus on the referees took it away from me.
The Sixers don't want to take any responsibility for this
loss whatsoever, which is crazy. They're a microcosm of why
are you talking and want to take responsibility for this
where the right tack is for At the end of
the game, the coach says something, and Nick Nurse says, hey,
this would happen. This would happen because you want to

(10:11):
get the calls going your way the next game. The
players put it past you and go on. But no, no,
every single player on the team was the referees took
it away from us. They did this. You are not
focused on the right things, and you're looking for excuses
why you lost this game. That you were up by
five with twenty seven seconds left to go. You're up
by five, right and you could have won the game.

(10:32):
So just think about That's the first one. Is that
to think that the game was over at that point.
It was not because maybe you win, but maybe you don't.
But you still had to navigate the rest of the game.
And with twenty seven seconds left in a one possession
game or a four point there's still a lot of
time left, right, So you don't know. So to sit
here and say the game was over at that point,
that's stupid, that's incorrect. Secondly, I will say this, after

(10:56):
all this happened, right, didn't get the call Maxi got fouled,
Nick Nurse, didn't get the timeouts called? Did you or
did you not have the ball with fifteen seconds left
and a chance to win the game? You were down
one fifteen seconds left, You had a chance to win
the game. Did you not have that chance? You did?
And what happened your best player at that time got blocked?

(11:16):
Was there a foul not called?

Speaker 2 (11:17):
No?

Speaker 1 (11:18):
Okay, did you or did you not have a chance
after that for your best player at that time to
hit a three and potentially go to overtime. No, and
your best player decided I'm too scared to take the shot.
I'm going to pass a Joel Embiid because I'd rather
have him take a three than me take one after
I've just been making them all night long. So that's
the other part of it is that the Sixers won,

(11:38):
the game was taken away from us. You still had
fifteen seconds and the basketball. You weren't down three, you
were down one. If you get to the free throw
line and hit one, maybe you go to overtime. You
get there and you get a hoop, you maybe win
the game. But no, you had a chance and you missed.
But the Sixers don't want to talk about that. They
just want to talk about the officials and they screwed

(11:58):
us on that play. And that's, you know what, good.
I'm glad the Sixers are focused on that and focused
on somebody else and not taking responsibility because when Jalen
Brunson drops forty on Thursday night, we're gonna have to
mention it for at least two minutes while we're talking
about the NFL Draft. Just so that happens, it's gonna
be the officials fault. Then, oh I Jaalen bruns Are
get in the paint make all those shots. I don't
believe it. I'm not saying Maxi wasn't fouled, but for

(12:21):
the Sixers reaction to be Hey, this wasn't our fault.
The game was taken from us. That's a load of crap,
as Archie Bunker would say, that's a bunch of crap hoola,
that is crap. See every bit of that.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
You're like analysis inserting Nick Fan quote here, analysis Nick
fan like you covered it well, like you were in
the A Few good men kind of thing. And then
you went Robert de Niro in another Kaitel classic, cop Land,
I gave you a chance to hit the shot that
would put you ahead, and you blew it. So there

(12:58):
you go, game over. No, but period materially affected. Right,
you go to the free throw line, you hit two.
Now you're up seven. That's a three possession game with
twenty seven seconds left. So again, not over, but it
does change thing. Now can we assume he makes both. No,
but in the spirit of hey, we're theorizing about what

(13:19):
could have happened. Yeah, that becomes part of it. So yeah,
when you start complaining once it's done, you know you
gotta let it go.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
I mean, you had the.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Opportunity to still close out. You're up five under a
half a minute remaining, and you had multiple chances a
to corral rebounds, which you did not do multiple instances
where you can do the screenshot of three or four
Sixers players looking to corral rebound and getting out rebounded
by the Nicks. Hustle plays down the stretch, laying out

(13:51):
to get the loose ball, a terrible inbound play from
Kyle Lowry. You could just check boxes all over the
place where they attempt to give the game away. And
I appreciate your loyally like speech along the way, no
question about it. You know, chances to score, certainly they did.
Certainly they had their opportunities. I do like that Nick

(14:14):
fan thing that came in that he must have been
scared to take that shot. Must have been scared. Didn't
want to go five of eleven from three point range?
Was Maxie most of.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Proved player of the Year. Yeah, I think the votes
were in before he decided, Oh, I can't take this
shot at the end of the game. I might have
somebody else take it. I don't want it. It was a
good looking pass. I just got blocked the last time
down the court. I don't want to take this shot.
It was a good pass to him. Be it was
a good pass, wasn't it. I mean it was highly improved.
That's like if someone gassed Yeah, but that's like if
somebody gave me a piece of chocolate cake, Why the
hell would I pass it to you. I'm keeping this

(14:46):
chocolate cake and eat I like, you're my best friend.
But I'm not giving you a piece of chocolate cake.
It's no chance, and I'm not doing it. I'm not
doing it. No, Now you'd say, what the hell's wrong?
This guy really doesn't want the chocolate cake. Nothing's right.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
It's just a great slice of time, assume. So if
it's passing through your hands, if it's knowing you as
long as I have.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
Even if it's a bad slice of chocolate cake, you're
not getting chocolate cake. It doesn't matter. It's still not
getting it. Yeah. Anyway, what's in here? Well, spiders and
uh maybe some cockroaches and chocolate. Yes, I'll keep it.
I'll keep it, Yes, but I mean it's look in
other parts of the globe.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
I mean you do have chocolate covered a rack nid
and stuff that are served as delicacy.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
Yeah, that is true mostly mostly see that in Indiana
Jones movies. It is true. Temple and Doom did have
some uh scarring moments. Along the way.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
You know, we could have bought one of those monkey
heads at auction where someone knows about a month ago.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
It's pretty crazy. I for monkey breaks.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
I'll go back and see if I can find it
in the auction. But it goes back to the The
end game is you've got to still play basketball right
as many bad calls you made, disagree with as many
things that have gone against you, and look, the two
minute report certainly emboldens not only nerves in the six
but certainly their fans to be chirpy about how things ended.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
I get it.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
You still have to finish the job and then you
can curse the officials out for trying to take it
away from you instead of blaming them for your lack
of activity and close out potential like they did.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome. The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon Live from

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Eight seventeen to go in the fourth
quarter is fourth quarter, not third Clippers by three over Dallas,
seventy three, seventy These last couple of nights have been
like back to the nineties in the NBA. It's like, ah,
the nineties were a great ball, better defense, Yeah, bad shooting,

(18:30):
it's great, you know, you know, you know what. I
realized it hit me that I was done with defense
and wanted more offense in the game. The two thousand
and four NBA Finals, when the when the Epistons beat
the Lakers and every game was like seventy eight seventy three.
I just beat that and I realized, Okay, you know what, No,
we need something else. This nineties era basketball is over
and now we've had it we've had the last few

(18:51):
years and now guys scoring forties, like when guys scored
twenty five. So this is kind of fun the last
couple nights see these these nineties kind of games going on.
It's fun throwback here. I got like you're looking at
the screen and you see them in eight bit form
and when they when they move, like that color trail
behind them. You see all the different colors.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
Busted out the old giant tube televisions. Yeah, it's like
what like when you used to processing it fast.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
It's like we used to watch like a college football
Saturday and you're watching like the Mountain West Network and
it's Colorado State against Wyoming, and it just it's you're
just like, is.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
There one angle?

Speaker 1 (19:29):
There's like one replay angle and it's the box that
they wipe in and wipe out of and the camera's
really far away. I tell you why. You can't even
read the last name.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
But you watch a lot of games these days, right
for the cost cutting that's going on and a lot
of these uh secondary viewing options. Right, you send all
your equipment and your best cameramen UH and all the
the high power cameras to the eight list game It's like,
what do we got at nine thirty, Well, we got
that one that's at the fifty yard line. Because I

(19:59):
watch soccer games and I'm convinced they're using the same
thing they use for my daughter's leagues where it's one
of those it's just there's a chip in the ball
and then sometimes it'll you know, kind of zoom in
a little bit and then the ball goes out of
play and it zooms back out to midfield. That's kind
of what I feel like I'm watching with some of
these even some of the Premier League games, Like I

(20:21):
get if these stadiums are old, they gotta have better
vantage points of this, don't they.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
Uh So, while that's going on, right, I will keep
you updated on the Lakers. And I'm sorry the Lakers
on the clip r Mavericks, but uh you know, I'm
a little upset upset not being Look we I mean,
the Mets sucked. They're not as bad as the Mets
are a game over five hundred, They're fine. The Mets
are fine. Gets swept by the Giants, the Mets are fine. Yeah,

(20:46):
Well you know, and you watch and you brought them
had nothing lost. That was your fault.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Yeah, that was the worst game to be well, although
those helmet nachos looked they were really good.

Speaker 1 (20:53):
But I got tolopenos on there. No, I'll go for hallopenos, yeah,
because I like the nachos and the chili and the meat.
And I don't know at theapos now because you know what,
because you get too much jolopeno juice and all you
got ruins. He's out the juice. Nah, that's nice. Special request.
Here's a dollar. Here's a dollar here, dollar once you
go take it, go buy yourself something nice. Here's a dollar.

(21:16):
What do you think this is nineteen sixty eight? You
sip an extra book cash money. Nobody knows it exists
except the pocket. You know, it's funny. Tell me. The
second Archie Bunker reference in the in the last half
hour is there was one episode where he needed a
repairman to come to his house late at night to

(21:37):
fix something like the toilet was done or something like that.
I mean, this is like nineteen seventy five, but he
still calls and he says, he says, can you get
over here and fix I really need you? Tell you
what if you get over here in the next fifteen minutes,
I'll give you an extra buck. Yeah, that's gonna work. Yes,
I'll give you an extra book. Extra dollar me an

(22:00):
extra Yes. I'm speaking English and you're listening to dingback.
I'm a little upset because look the great night we
had last night, best night in the NBA, all fantastic,
best night in the NBA. We had so much storyline. Yes,
but it took me away from something that I really want.
And I'm like, you know, I'm a little upset because

(22:20):
I didn't really get to say goodbye to Zach Wilson.
Because it's been Zach Wilson and the Jets has been
such a big deal in the NFL the last three years,
and because we get these great games. It's like I
didn't get real a chance to say goodbye.

Speaker 3 (22:33):
What did you think when the Jets put up a
picture of him and said thank you Zach?

Speaker 1 (22:39):
Honest answer, suitable for air. What what went through your brain?
I thought? This is like, this is like in the
breakup when you want to be the bigger person and
say good luck. I'm happy for you. I hope you
have a wonderful life. I'm very happy for you. Good luck,
good luck. No, I have no ill will towards you

(22:59):
at all. I just wish you nothing but love, nothing
but the best. See I could see tight Shirt pulling
that off with someone he's dating and meaning it. But
like most other people would be like, no, I wish
you the best, and in my head is going get
the blank out of my face. I hope you can't
find somebody and you wind up old living alone with
a bunch of cats. That's so evil, you know, like
that's it. No, but I said you would do it.

(23:21):
You would be that you would, you would do it
and feel that way.

Speaker 6 (23:23):
I always feel good for people. Yeah, the kind of
guy that wants everybody to win. Yeah, see, but everybody
can't win. Why not because if somebody wins? You never
seen Talladega Knights.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
If I win, how am I exactly? I'll put you
in a car with a Bobcat. He's got to face
your things. I don't like sports because somebody has to lose. Yeah,
well that's that's yeah. Well sports would be different if
they took the scoreboard down. Boy, look how much fun
it is to watch these two teams just compete. Now,
I here's some orange slices and some tang Boy, what

(23:55):
what a great play that was made right there by
by that player. Oh boy, the guy the other team,
he's really good.

Speaker 6 (24:01):
I feel like there'd be a very more positive, utopian place. No,
just enjoy the sport.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
No one would watch that, why because no, people want
people want winners and losers. Why people want winners and losers.
That's like the whole thing. If it bleeds, it leads.
That's not always true. We gotta you can see a
puppy being born or something. You've got to aspire to,
things you got aspired. A lot of that comes into there.
I like the goodness in the world. It feels good.

Speaker 6 (24:23):
There is good, but just because you're waiting panandlings of things,
just because you're because people feel good to help people.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
Oh, I thought you meant the people doing it. Well,
that's the whole losing part that you like.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
No, No, there's a lot more going on there. We
can't get out on that road. They drive away in
cars better than I do. A lot of tis around here.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
But see, like it's the whole concept.

Speaker 6 (24:42):
When people do like a great deed, they're like, I'll
buy a thousand roses to go give it to like
a nursing home.

Speaker 1 (24:47):
How do you just do it. I need to say no.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
Altruism is a four letter word in my world. I
counted on my fingers. He put his sausage fingers up
and cant that's eight. I could have done it without
counting on my fingers, would have taken it was good effect.
I would have went eight.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
That was a better look for the camera instead of brain.
I mean it would have been at least two and
a half two girls grinding up in there. It would
have been at least two and a half three more
seconds before I could have said eight. So that's why
I had counted my fingers, which is embarrassing because I
think back to when, you know, in school, when when
the teachers say, hey, at this point, you're not gonna
No one counts on their fingers anymore.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
Everybody just counts in their head. Oh and here I
am fifty three A L T R U I S
N eight eight. I did it. I did it. I
did it. But I am so smart. I mean, Jack Wilson,
you know, gave us so much content for the last
three years, especially last year. Well listen, hey, when one
door closes, another door opens, Okay, I mean there's a

(25:55):
lot of moms in Denver right now who are really happy?
Hell yeah, hey, excuse me, I want to subscribe to
uh to a uh someone's uh uh a feed there
their Instagram feed. Yeah, who do you want? It's uh, well,
just just tell me, just tell me how I do it? Well,
tell me who it is. It's it's Zach Wilson's mom.
I wanna, I want to. I want to. I want
to subscribe to her fan. I want to see what
she has to say. I want I want to. Uh

(26:19):
because when one door closed, another one opens. There's a
lot of a lot of moms in New York now unhappy.
Maybe there's more moms in Denver that are happy. Well,
I mean they'll have another quarterback gets selected. Maybe they
can gravitate to them just like they did Zach Wilson.
Did you see it Zach Wilson's parents house. They already
changed the flags and everything in front of Broncos flags already. Hey,
we're waiting with the Broncos flags. We're waving.

Speaker 3 (26:42):
I got to say though the last couple of days
not to you know, do a full side swipe back
into La culture. But the the the car flags are
back out for the Lakers. Yeah, yeah, I miss car Flags,
but yeah, Denver Flags and Denver. I mean she bringing
all her her mom friends with her, did Denver?

Speaker 1 (27:04):
Well, it's only you taught at Denver. It's a much
shorter commute than you taught in New York, so it
works okay. But no, but I didn't get it. I
feel like, you know, we talked about it a little bit,
but then the games went went bananas, and I'm like,
I didn't. I mean, it deserved a better fate than
last night. I mean, this is a big deal, and
like I didn't get a chance. It was you know,

(27:24):
it weren't done with them a long time.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
It's like it was like a relationship that was done
and then you finally, you know, put the bullet in it.

Speaker 1 (27:32):
You know, it's okay where you were with her? No,
it's it's kind of I kind of felt like it's
you watch a TV show that you really like and
then you know, oh, okay, I can't wait for it
to come back, and then doesn't come back, they cancel.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
You're like, oh, I didn't get a chance. A couple
of those, Yeah, I didn't a chance say goodbye to it.
I thought you can also gone the other way where
they introduced a kid. You're like, I hate watching this
not done click but but I but then then.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
Then part of me was, wait a minute. This he
was terrible for the Jets. They were awful for three
Here is your yay. But yet I feel bad I
didn't really get to say goodbye. I guess I didn't
feel like I need to put this storyline to bed
because it was just so awful for the Jets. Because
I had three horrible years of Sam Darnold and three
craptastic years of Zach Wilson and four snaps from Aaron Rodgers.

(28:20):
I mean, that's what I have. And now the Zach
Wilson era is over, and I feel like I need
some kind of acknowledgements, some kind of let's let you
know we it's done. Now, the story is over, We've
moved on. I get closure. I want that. It's it's
the it's the the meeting with the ex girlfriend when
you know you're breaking up. You say you break up

(28:41):
with Yeah, watch you break up with Catherine Zada Jones.
Can you tell me that you know how you write
record sorted autobiographical? Oh? Okay? But I feel like like
that would have been great, and there was an opportunity
last night to get that. You can get closure here
on the show We Can Give you Closure on Anything.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
Top five songs about the death of Zack Wilson's career
with the New York Jets Go Back in the New
York Groove.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
Number one. Uh And I really and I feel like
I really I needed to say more, needed to have
some time to sit with it and to come out.
And then I just, you know what, I realized, I
need to say goodbye, or I need to say one
more time at least God, he's stunk and the Jets
were and the Jets stunked trying to put him in
a position to succeed. They didn't do it. And it's

(29:23):
just it's frustrating, and it makes me want to rip
the marble top off this table because I can because
I got my good try. Oh well, or at least
it's foam marble. Even foam marble is like hard plastic.
And I feel like I wanted to have that, like
I needed to have that, and I didn't get that
last night. And I'm getting it a little bit now,
but still, yeah, but you know what you went from,
maybe the sadness slash relief of the departure of Zach

(29:49):
Wilson into the complete euphoria of what happened with your nicks.
There wasn't have that grieving time, right, it's you know this, this,
you know you. You wrote you know a a little
nice soliloquy, and we started to talk about it a bit, and.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
Then it became oh, and that was it.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
You forgot all about Zach Wilson. You had your own face.
That was it. But it's okay. But it's like you
break up with your you break up with your girlfriend
and you're hoping to get closure. You go out with
your friends one night and you get absolutely blasted and
you have so much fun and everything else. But then
you get the next day and you go, I still
miss Susie or Jennifer or whatever her name is. I'm

(30:27):
selling I really wish I have that closure, and it's
kind of good. Tomorrow. Let's go Rob Roy for everybody.
They don't have another day off, do they, Let's do
it again. No, I understand it that I needed that.
I didn't get it. I need I need the I
needed the cathartic angle of Zach Wilson leaving.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
No, it's It's a difficult proposition, right. It's like when
Justin Fields ends up getting traded to the Bear, from
the Bears to the Steelers.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
It was the well, they didn't really do right by him,
but boy, look at what they're doing around that offense.
Just too bad.

Speaker 3 (31:03):
It's a front office a couple of years too late,
and he was not their guy, right. That's it with
Zach Wilson. It's the I don't know what this is
gonna work, but they didn't really do right by him,
and they went out of their way to bring an
Aaron Rodgers. And look at all the pain and misery
he's caused me because of the bad headlines, because you
hate the headlines. Right, it's supposed to be quiet. We

(31:25):
need quiet, We need to calm it down. And then
once he do spots off about another couple of conspiracies
to you know, pull out the flamethrower on that stuff again. Meanwhile,
Zach Wilson still on the roster, like why is he
still on the roster? And we even had that conversation
last week of well, he's got to be there as
a break glass in case of emergency between Rogers' history

(31:48):
and age and Tarrod Taylor's history. Not that he's gonna get,
you know, the needle like he did from the Chargers
a few years back.

Speaker 1 (31:58):
So let me at least just say finally goodbye. I
can't even say you had a good run. No, he
had a run. He had a run. Maybe he had
a walk, he had a nice stroll, a brisk Maybe
maybe he crawled to the bathroom to throw up in
the toilet.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
Well, they never let him crawl. They forced him into
a onto a tread meeting.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
Such as such an epic fail by him and the Jets. Everybody,
so goodbye. When one door closes, another one opens. We
say goodbye to Zach Wilson. We say hello to.

Speaker 4 (32:33):
Brian Fenlow in the wide world of sports aways. That's
a broadcast professional right there. And I never want to
say goodbye to you wearing shirts that are sleeveless.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
I always want to see those picture. I will. I'll
take a picture with you after. That's fine. A lot
of graphic for you too, if you have time in
your schedule.

Speaker 3 (32:51):
Yes, we still eric an autograph photo. Should we suppose
for ones together too? We owe who guy that runs
a coffeehouse big fan of the show asked for an
autograph photo that he could put up.

Speaker 1 (33:01):
All right, we'll take one. So we got to do
that for sure. I think we'll put Friendly in it too.
I think we've give him one of Friendly.

Speaker 4 (33:07):
Although if we if all three of us are in
the are in the picture with you, the size of
your guys's domes, are we all going to be able
to fit in the shot of the photo?

Speaker 1 (33:16):
Now you're out of the picture. How about that? Now
you're out? All right? Well? What is in picture right now?

Speaker 4 (33:23):
And what you can watch on television or you can
let's do it on the radio and us talking about
it is this game two first round Lakers and Mavericks.
The Mavericks are really starting to pull ahead here in
the fourth quarter. They've outscored the Clippers by ten in
the fourth alone. It's nine at eighty one, six to
go in the fourth quarter. Kawhi Leonard has struggled. This
is his first game back after missing the last nine

(33:44):
with right knee inflammation, and had eight points of his
twelve through three quarters in the third quarter, but has
quieted since. Luca Ancic thirty two points, just had a
nasty step back and his team is up in good
position here trying to equal things at one game apiece.
The Clippers are up one game to none. As of now,
it's two to zho in favor of the tim Wolves

(34:06):
after their one oh five ninety three win at home
against the Suns. While the Pacers get on the board.
They tie things up at one apiece in their matchup
against the Bucks after the Bucks had to play without
Janisidenta Kumpo and they suffered because of it, one twenty
five to one oh eight Indiana victorious Pascal Siakam thirty
seven points, eleven rebounds to his name. NHL postseason is

(34:30):
upon us as well. Let's not forget about that as
we do that hockey. As they say, there's one game
still going and it's late in the third period. It's
the Canucks trailing the Predators three to one, so the
Preds are up three to one. That is a game
two Preds win. If they do, they tie the series
at one. Rangers over the Capitals four to three. Rangers
lead that first round series at two games to nothing.

(34:52):
Overtime victory for the Panthers three to two against the
Lightning that one is a final, of course.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
Florida winning the.

Speaker 4 (34:59):
First two games that series, and it's a tie series
with the Avalanche and Jets at one after the Avalanche
had a four scorer, they scored four goal excuse me
in the second.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
And seven years ago.

Speaker 4 (35:10):
Sure there you go, well done, well done, a five
to two Avalanche over the Jets. And then lastly, we'll
go right into Major League Baseball. Just get some of
the notable scores. Obviously there's there's so many going on,
but right now what we are focusing on is some
of the finals. The Braves five to nothing, they beat
out the Marlins, the Yankees four to three winners against
the Athletics, comes Victoria seven to two against the Astros.

(35:34):
White Sox had a chance, but that's not going to
do it. Six to five twins over the White Sox.
As the White Sox are three to twenty on the year.
We also saw another loss for the Mets, so got
to make sure we get that into the update. Five
to one. A team that's under five hundred beat a
team that's over five hundred, Giants over the Mets five
to one. That's a final score. Padres also lost. They're

(35:56):
not five hundred or more than five hundred, they're five
hundred on the thirteen wins thirteen losses, falling to the
Rockies six and eighteen.

Speaker 1 (36:04):
What are you guys laughing at you? You're not five hundred,
then an under five hundred, then an over five hundred.
They're at five hundred. A team that was over five
hundred lost their team that's under five hundred, and here's
your final score. Yeah, that's how we do it. He's
not your vetus, he's not my vetus.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
He's our vetus, our vetus.

Speaker 4 (36:23):
What do we do just because the Padres have more
wins already this season than the Mets and the White Sox,
don't be jealous, guys.

Speaker 1 (36:30):
A team over five hundred plays a team under five hundred.
Just team over five hundred wins, the team under five
hundred or the team under five hundred wins, they get
closer to five hundred. Team over five hundred loses also
gets closer to five hundred. You have five hundred teams,
but the Padres are right at five hundred. But they
are and they still have more wins than the Mets. Thanks, thanks, Bryance.

(36:51):
Just want to make sure you do that. Thank you
for the math last I appreciate that. Hey, coming up next,
boy do we got a barn burner going on at
the Crypt. Who we have the final between Dallas and
the Clippers. Is it gonna be an incredible Clippers comeback?
Or does Luca even the series? Keep it ear that's
next Fox.

Speaker 2 (37:09):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (37:17):
And this song by Zach goes to Denver. Relax, don't
do it when you want to throw an interception. Fox
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend.
His name is Mike Harmon, And oh boy, do we
have drama at the Crypt right now? Dallas with a
five point lead and about twenty two seconds left in

(37:38):
the game. The inbounds pass to Kawhi Leonard is almost
like in Ali Oup. Kawhi catches, goes up, gets the layup,
and the foul. Kyrie Irving commits the foul. And look,
if you're gonna foul Kawhi Leonard on that play, you
gotta rap him. You gotta hit him on the right

(37:59):
arm where he's going up with that shot. Because Kawhi
just went right in, got the layup ninety three ninety
He'll be going to the free throw line for an
end one that would make it a two point game
with twenty and a half seconds left to go in
the fourth quarter.

Speaker 3 (38:14):
And once again we're in a review and I'm not
sure why. Pretty obvious there was a foul called.

Speaker 1 (38:20):
Well, I think they're looking to see if it was flagrant,
if Kyrie actually went for the ball. Oh, he's half
trying to intercept it. In other words, hey, we saw
it happened last night with the Knicks and the Laker.
Let's just make sure we let's cross all the t's
and dot the ice.

Speaker 3 (38:32):
Seem fairly obvious that he went for the ball and
got a bunch of his arms, because if he really
wanted to wreck him, Kyrie was in the air, Kawhi
was in the air, Kyrie could have taken him down.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
Yeah he wanted to. Yeah, I mean, look that if
you're gonna foul him, that's kind of how you have
to do it. So okay, you know that's what has
to happen. So again, ninety three, ninety twenty seconds left
to go in the game, and there is nobody that
has or at stake probably in the playoffs than Luka Donson. Sure,

(39:05):
because he's been in the legal while now. Right, Luca
is a great player. He has still twenty four to
twenty five years old. All right, that's great, you know,
And he's he's you know, obviously one of the big
stars and MVP and all kinds of stuff you've thrown
out there for him. MVP finalists this year and maybe
he finally wins. But he's been in the league now
a while. And the Mavericks haven't really ascended. They've kind

(39:28):
of been the same team. They've been up and down
some years. They've been a little bit better than others. Hey,
they got to the Western Conference finals a couple of
years ago, but now have not been back. They're not
a team that is year and and year out at
the top of the NBA, which is where you should
be when you have a big, superstar player. The Bucks
are at the top of the NBA year and you're
out because of Gianni's right, You've seen the big players

(39:50):
do this. They keep Nikola Jokic has the Nuggets at
the top because he's a great player. Luca is a great,
great player, but the Mavericks are just okay. And this
year he finally got the best number two he's ever
had in Kyrie Irving didn't work with porzeingis okay, that's fine,
but he's finally got then Kyrie is still playing. Didn't
all year went and and Kyrie was able to play

(40:11):
and not have to take any time off or anything else.
And if the Mavericks go out in the first round again,
you gotta start saying, Okay, there's got to be something
going on here, because this team should be better, should
be on the ascent instead of being rocky every single
year when you have the best, when you supposedly have
one of the best three four players in the league
in Luca well, he did have fifty wins this year.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
And as we've talked about the Western Conference, it's not
exactly an easy run, right, you got a couple of
teams that are terrible, but everything else, it's it's difficult. Right,
You're you're playing in this series with the fifty wins,
you know, to your thinking him and they overtake the
Knicks with that record, now, just kidding, but still the
competition that's risen up now Gafford and washing Washington come

(40:55):
up with eighteen points tonight, but they've done a great job.
The other thing is You know, folks can in Luca
credit for Kyrie. How about we just give Kyrie credit
for Kyrie exit. How about a Fresco exit swollen dome.

Speaker 1 (41:07):
We'll have more in this game coming up next as
well as a big story out of the NFL. Is
it time to be worried about the Cowboys? Fox,
