The Celtics.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat thanks to
numerous mistakes by the Pacers.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
They win in over ten time, Game.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
One of the Eastern Conference Finals, one thirty three to
one to twenty eight. The Pacers with ten seconds left
in regulation and a three point lead, and the ball
found a way to lose the game.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Good job by that. Look it.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
That's tough, Hey Pacers, Hey and all the all the
media members who were so upset the Knicks got all
the attention.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Now we're talking about the Pacers. Are you happy?
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Congratulations it's there. Now we're talking about the Pacers.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Now, yeah, let's talk about how the Celtics went and
took it from them.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Look, celebrate the greatness you have.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
You have Rick Carlisle, he played him a few minutes ago, saying,
this is on me the mistakes that Look, look, you
saw mistakes by both teams in the final minutes of regulation.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Let's pick it up.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
With ten seconds to go in the fourth quarter, the
Pacers have the ball and a three point lead, and
they have trouble on the inbounds and the inbounds because
it's Siakam coming all the way back.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
For the ball.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
The ball goes off off his hands and out of bounds.
That gives the ball back to the Celtics. Rick Carlile said,
that's my fault. I should have called time out and
we saw the difficulty, should have tried to advance the ball.
That's on me, which is I mean, it's not an
official's fault. Can't blame the officials for that, Rick Carlisle,
that's well, but I mean some are calling, yeah that
was fouled. Yeah, yeah, he was not fouled. They were both.
(02:18):
Everybody's running back. Everybody's running back to the ball that
goes off Pascalciakam. Yeah, so that's a mistake that that
Rick Carlile's got to own. But then after the turnover,
it comes to this. The Pacers are up three, and
it's become a big topic of conversation because so many
games are decided by three points. Teams leading by three
in the final seconds of a game.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
If you have the lead, do you foul?
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Do you foul and try to stop a team from
being able to make that three and tie the game?
And worse comes to worse. You have the ball, you're
up by a point with a few seconds left, and
you're at the free throw line. There's a bunch of
different schools of thought on that, but the Pacers did
not foul. Pascal Siakam decided to lay off of Jalen
Brown in the corner when Brown got the ball, because
(03:04):
Brown was not in the best shooting position. So Siakam
lays off of Jalen Brown and Jalen Brown does this get.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Free throwing in the corner. Brown fakes, fires up the three.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Jayleen Brown knocks down to Bree to tie the game.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Time out Indiana Bang Bang, Mike Breen on the call.
So now the game goes to overtime. All right, And
now here's here's the folkuse. I get there's a split
philosophy on that. It really gets inside basketball, but it's
just so it's just so interesting when you see this
strategy and how it plays out at the end of
games which everybody was watching. This is that Jalen Brown's
(03:44):
a really good player, right, I mean you can you can.
I mean he hadn't scored in the fourth quarter up
until this point, but generally, Jalen Brown's a really good player.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Right.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
This is the Tatum Jalen Brown invention of the Celtics. Right,
this is the NBA in twenty twenty four where everybody
makes threes. Okay, everybody makes threes. The best players make
threes from the logo. We saw Haliburton make a three
from the Celtics logo tonight. They make threes off of
pump fakes. They make threes like Tyrese Maxi up and
(04:13):
under a guy like heart the shooters. Yet that's true
miracle threes like Memoard, he just stabbed you from there.
I know, Yeah, that was that was like he is
a T two and yeah, but.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
This is my point. This is my point.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
This is why you fell because the best play. Look,
everybody makes threes, now, everybody does, but the best players
make them under all kinds of duress. And for Jalen Brown,
you could say, Okay, did he have a great look
at the basket. No, this is still one of the
best players in the NBA. You don't let him even
get a contestant.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Note, but that's the thing, Like if you go back
and watch it and now run this about forty times,
it's not a clean catch and.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Immediately ture like I hacked him on the arm right there.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah, no, he had any attempt at a shot or
he got into a shooting position because he catches the
ball to his side and comes to swinging around.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
If he hits them down right there, you could have
done it right there. And that's a place to do
it because again, remember this is Jalen Brown getting the ball.
This is not Isaiah Hartenstein getting the ball. You know,
twenty feet behind the threat. You're talking about a really
good player. Everybody makes threes now, the best players make
them under all kinds of situations.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Right, we've seen that.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
This is this is the skill set of the NBA
Superstar of twenty twenty four. You have to be able
to make threes like that, and they can. So, yeah,
was this the greatest look.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
For Jalen Brown?
Speaker 5 (05:38):
No? Was it?
Speaker 2 (05:39):
A was it?
Speaker 1 (05:40):
I got my back to the basket. I'm throwing up
over my head like kind of like Andrew Denmartin. How
dare you?
Speaker 2 (05:45):
No?
Speaker 1 (05:46):
He this is where Siakam's got to commit the foul
at this point. And when we talked to Ryan Hollins
and he said, I've changed my philosophy on that forever.
I mean, this is something that you kind of because
the players are too good now they're they're too good
making those.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
But the thing with is he I'd have gotten away
with one.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Not that there was a lot of contact, but Brown
goes to the ground and he's near where he lands
as a shooter. So we've seen that called how many
times through the regular season and into the playoffs. All Right,
you didn't give him proper space to land on his shot,
and then he does the hand behind the back, right,
he doesn't contest it. You've got a decided height advantage.
(06:23):
Nothing else, just put your arms up, but you're in
his space and he goes to the ground. Luky on
a home court, you didn't get the and one off
of the three, even if you didn't make dramatic contact here.
So yeah, for Siakam unconsciable that on the decision to
not call the time out before, like two things compounding
(06:43):
lots of things that really just kind of comes together
right there.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Now.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
You want to hear a great explanation on this further,
This was I believe from earlier today. JJ Reddick on
his podcast with Lebron James talked about this topic about
what do you do when you're up three in the
final seconds?
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Do you foul? Did they get the advanced copy of
the script? Maybe they did, Maybe maybe they got a
little Arian Foster.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Hey, hang on, guys, I got the twenty twenty four
playoff NBA playoff script.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Here you go. Here.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Next, here's Lebron explaining why he would always foul in
that situation.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
Yeah, and what are the all all the circumstances that's
going on at this point? Okay, so you're up three?
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Is it?
Speaker 5 (07:26):
Is it? Under twenty four seconds left? In the game.
Is it do we have a time out? What are
some of the cases. I was watching the game last night.
Obviously New York up three. You know, Tyrese had just
hit a four point play, they come back down, Josh
Hart goes one for two from the free throw line,
put them up three. Philly's coming down, and I, personally,
(07:50):
I would have filed. I would have, well, I would
have I would have filed before Tyrese even cross half court. Okay,
I just I just do it. And it has to
be and for it has to be on the downward dribble.
If you're going to foul, you have to file on
(08:11):
the downward dribble, you know. And it's hard. Sometimes a
lot of guys are afraid to do it too. A
lot of coaches are afraid to tell their team to
file one up three because one either one they haven't
worked on it, or two it is you know, with
our rules and things, it gets tricky sometimes and you
(08:31):
send a guy to the to the to the free
throw line, you know, because you try to file them
in a case.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
But I am foling, I'm fouling. I've had great.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Look, Hey, we need more Lebron like that, Like that
that's that's an amazing breakda. Look you get the breakdown
of stuff absolutely the Mind the Game podcast with JJ
Reddick right there. So look, so we see how this
plays out tonight and how maybe this is going to
change philosophies in the future. But bottom line is, these
players are too good. These guys shooting when it's Jalen Brown,
when it's when it's Jason Tatum.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
They're too good.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
But just what also hit me about this is now
this this podcast has gotten posted back up again and
is getting a lot of attention.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
We trolling people on x Y.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Yeah, yeah, because look there, Look, there are different schools
of thought. Lebron explained why some coaches are afraid because basically,
what you want to say is some coaches don't trust
their players to foul the right spot. If you can,
if you can get that foul wells down.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Then do it.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
But if not, okay, you know, maybe you maybe you
want to lay off because I don't feel I don't
feel right, I don't think that I can do it.
I like to think you're in the NBA, you can
do something like that. But just seeing this, right, seeing
this back and forth and this relationship that he has
with JJ Reddick, and you're not really hearing any other
name for the Lakers. And and you know, the Lakers
(09:50):
are about some kind of splash. They're about we need
to go a little bit outside the box because look,
you know me, they should hire Frank Vogel because he
would make them better defensive They can they can bury
the hatchet over whatever reason that they got sick of
each other, but they want a title together. Defensively, they'll
be better. But that's not gonna happen. But you can
tell that the way it's going, JJ Reddick's gonna be
(10:12):
their head coach. Right Lebron already has a very easy
relationship with him. Doesn't mean he's gonna listen to him.
He's not gonna him and ad aren't gonna listen to
JJ Reddick. But who else is out there that's gonna
capture attention? That's gonna be some kind of attention grabbing
higher by the Lakers is as hiring Kenny Atkinson gonna
do it?
Speaker 2 (10:30):
No, it's not gonna do it. The only other guy
would be Mark Jackson.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Because now you took away the decade long, what the
hell is this guy not coaching? But otherwise no brego No, okay,
I mean like there's so many of these names. That
doesn't mean they're not good head, but it's like, what
what's going to cut through for us with the Lakers
and what's going to be a higher that's gonna get
the blessing of Lebron and ad what's gonna happen. What's
(10:54):
gonna have a little bit of something different because we
need that some kind of energy that maybe if it's
not exact coaching, it's a different energy with the team
because we lost the energy in the middle of last
year towards the end. Players not on the same page
with Darvin ham uh calling.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Him out something different, right, I mean, Davis, we don't
know what we're doing.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
Reddick is the only name we have heard. We had
Mark MDI, Doc Rivers, you know we heard Doc rig.
Speaker 6 (11:21):
Sandwich.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
I mean it was budenholz Er was the favorites in
the betting market.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
No, No, he'd go to the moon to coach the Suns.
I'll go to the moon.
Speaker 6 (11:30):
You know why JJ Reddick's in the running right because
he doesn't are going to listen to him because management
truly believes he's the next Pat Riley.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Hey, hey, listen, Jay Moore is going to make great
decisions as Lakers owner, and this could be the first one.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
I mean, this could be it right here.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
No, but we've been told by every every one of
the sick of fans, I mean reporters and insiders that
Lebron's got nothing to do with the coaching decisions because.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
Other Tyler would have been the guy five years ago.
Didn't you hear that one though?
Speaker 6 (12:03):
Besides the hair, Jason, Yeah, he's nothing like that.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
No, he's not. He does. Look.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Hiring anybody is a gamble for the Lakers because they're
not There's nobody out there with a proven record they're
gonna go get. That's gonna be He's gonna get the
best basketball out of this team. Everybody is a gamble.
But when you hear Reddick's name, that's the one you
hear all sorts of reports out of LA they're enamored
with him. Mark Medina, NBA insider, join us the other
(12:32):
night and said, listen, the more everything I'm hearing is
it's moving towards JJ Reddick being the head coach of
the Lakers. And when you see video like this get
out and the conversation with him and Lebron I I
can't see there being any other outcome, whether it's in
three days, five days a week. They're waiting to see
if anybody shakes loose that that might wind up here.
(12:53):
Maybe Greg Popovitch calls up and says, Hey, I want
to come coach the Lakers. I hate this Wemby guy's
getting all the credit. Uh, you know, unless something like
that happens. But I can't see there being any other
avenue where somebody else outside of JJ Reddick at this
point is hired as well.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
That and and that's the thing, right, We're not we're
not seeing uh names really cycling up. I think the
thing Mark Medina gave us was more confirmation of of
what we all kind of believed was happening right where
the tea leaves were being read. But the thing he
gave us was the potential for what becomes the surrounding
(13:31):
cast as you fill out the coaching roster. Because they
they gutted it right, they sent all those guys away,
Handy and everybody else are gone. So that's that's the
curiosity to me, right, all right, if JJ Reddick is
going to be the guy that's in charge. What what's
underneath him that becomes the scintillating names because that's that
(13:51):
was the part Medina added to it that really got
me intrigued. All right, what what high high power? You know,
long long time I'm assistants are going to be in
the running to be that guy and the right hand man?
Like that's the curiosity to me? Or is it just
Lebron himself? But he's just there in an empty suit.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
He's gonna be a guy.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
He's on the court, but there's a suit representing him.
His name, his name is going to be James Lebron.
Who's that? Well, he's my new assistant coach. Really where
is he? He's not here right now, but you know
you'll be able to talk to James Lebron at some
point soon.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Really, right, what's he look like? You know you see
him that shows up? It's Lebron.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
It's not a little penny, it's it's a kind of
a Lebron. Hey, James, what do you think I would
foul here up three all the time? You want to
ask me another question? I'm James Lebron, I'm a new
assistant coach for jj REC.
Speaker 6 (14:45):
And how many nights a week. Do they do the
live pod in game? When's wearing a headset?
Speaker 2 (14:49):
And is that he's walking around?
Speaker 3 (14:53):
Yeah, with the headset, but he's Madonna or Pink or
somebody that.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
Hey, I'm talking really loud because the Dallas crowd is
going nuts because now they're up fifteen. I know I
should be making a move, But Lebron, what do you
think about the game Luca is having so far?
Speaker 2 (15:09):
This is better than hard knocks. Let's go.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
I mean, really, there's there's no other I mean really,
there's no other choice at this point that there is
no choice.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Listen, I'm call Jmore. Hey, Phil Jackson could still come back.
Call j Phil wake up and fight.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Come on, Phil's come on, man, he's still come on,
it's the playoffs. Still he's still asleep on the subway.
He can't even fly about Sam. Come on, I thought
for a second you said, Sam Kinison.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
No, it's not gonna be stop turning the ball.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
Yeah, men, enough.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Passive all to the other team.
Speaker 7 (15:45):
You have to foul when you're updated with the ball,
say say it, that will foul?
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Say it?
Speaker 8 (15:51):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Coming up next?
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Yes, you have more from the Big Night in the
NBA but we got a big NFL story coming your
way as well.

best friend Mike harmon. I feel like I'm in the
club right now and actually be getting a drink that's blue.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
And is like it like like his neon.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
Hey do you want one of those blue milk Star
Wars drinks?
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Okay, Like this is one of those songs where you
can't even have a conversation over it, Like you make
a white Russian with the blue milk.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Duels that's you.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
Oh my god, doesn't oduleS doesn't even some of the
the non alcoholic beer still have alcohol.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
After two old duals trying to be pay man. I
was reading the Wasted Now I Wasted Man, and then
it's like points zero zero four. Yeah, it's like there's
a beer in Florida. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
It's like it's like when you get a coupon and
it's like this value is one thousandth of a cent.
Oh so if I get a thousand of these, have
a penny, cut out a thousand coupons and have a
penny like that, that'd be pretty good.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Nicely done. They don't want you fighting your gator in Florida.
Speaker 7 (18:03):
Gator.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
I get ten thousand them, I got a dime. You
get one hundred thousand. I have a dollar.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
It's exciting. But if I fight the Gator, I can
go viral.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
Let's go No, I just did pretty good math arm look, hey, hey, hey,
too soon, too soon?
Speaker 2 (18:18):
Uh, Carl Weather's getting a lot of runs.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Celtics beat the Pacers in overtime, one thirty three to
one twenty eight. Like we always say, games don't have
to be art, don't have to be works of art.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
They just have to be close.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
And this game was close, and it gave us so
much to talk about. Mistakes by the Pacers at the end,
big shots by Jason Tatum in the in the fourth
quarter and overtime.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
There's still a lot more to break down with this,
which we'll get to coming up in a few minutes.
But Game one, okay, that's in the books now. Yeah,
we get ready for the Western Conference Finals. Oh, let's
go Game one between Minnesota and the Dell Mavericks. And oh,
by the way, let me just say first, how about
(19:04):
my two big bold predictions at the beginning of the
playoffs where I said Pacers are going to beat the
Bucks in the first round and the Mavericks are going
to the Western Conference Finals.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
To be fair, Giannis didn't play right and Damian Lillard
was broken in half.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
But okay, but mainly I want to focus on yeah, no,
going to the Western first.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
It was kind of I think the masses got on board,
even if Rick Carlisle and everybody told you that they didn't.
I mean, because it was also on Milwaukee had that
other thing going for it. What was it, Doc, Yeah,
Doc Rivers, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
That's for this one.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
He does a pretty good run, especially now that the
Mavericks seemed to I don't know if they've got a
pool in the back or what.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
No, no, no, I.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Mean in terms of a betting pool, in terms of hey,
how many games do I get a plus next to
my name for playing defense?
Speaker 1 (19:56):
But again, until to the Mavericks, we're going to the
Western Conference Finals. It looks like it was time Luca.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
This is the best.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Running mate he's got with Kyrie Irving, and here they
are in the Western Conference Finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Now,
knowing how far to predict a team is an art form.
That's an art form. Like me knowing when to predict
the Dallas Mavericks to get to the Western Conference Finals,
that's an art form. Also an art form, knowing when
to jump off of said bandwagon and understand that they
(20:30):
have done all they could do. So when I'm looking
at this series, yeah, give me the Timberwolves to go
to the NBA.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
God look at you.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
But for a couple of reasons. One defensively, when the
t Wolves are locked in, there's nothing you can do.
Look at way what they did three games in Denver
to the Nuggets, right, the team that didn't look like
they were unstoppable with Jokich and Murray, and it doesn't
matter because the Timberwolves made them look like just another
team those three games. The Dallas Mavericks are not quite
(20:59):
as good offensively as the Nuggets are. They don't quite
have the players that the Nuggets day. Jokic is Lucas great,
but he's not Jokic, right, Okay, I get it. And
Kyrie Irving is really good, but is he Jamal Murray?
You're talking about the support staff as well. They don't
have an Aaron Gordon.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
YESPJ. Wathington is good, but is he as good as
Aaron Gordon.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
This is going to be a game, This is gonna
be a series where Minnesota's defense is going to absolutely
wear down Luka, Doncic and the main thing that I
see from this going in that I'm concerned about if
I'm the Mavericks, is I wonder how much Kyrie has
left because this is the most basketball that he's played
(21:40):
in a long time.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Right, this is I mean, everybody winds.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Up, you know, hitting the wall at some point in
the NBA playoffs because they play a lot, and hey,
we've played like we saw it with Chris Paul who
made it through two games of the NBA Finals a
couple of years ago, and then that was it. And
then suddenly I can't do anything all the game. There's
too many games, too many every other day. I can't
do it. And then here come the Milwaukee Bucks and
they come back and they win the NBA title. Kyrie
(22:08):
Irving has not played a lot of basketball, and he
did not have a great last round of the playoffs.
It's almost, I don't want to say that the Mavericks
won in spite of him, but he wasn't their second
best player. No, that was Washington, and Washington was really
you know, stepping up in that round and he was
really good. But Kyrie, I wonder if he's at the
(22:30):
point where he's really hit the wall. Right, he played
fifty eight games this year. Now you're getting to the
third round, so fifty eight games and the third round
of the playoffs. Here's Kyrie's games going back fifty and
it's not a lot. Fifty eight's not a lot this year,
but fifty eight for him and two rounds of playoffs
last year, and between Brooklyn and Dallas, sixty games year
(22:53):
before that, twenty nine games, year before that, fifty four games,
year before that, twenty games. He has played in more
than sixty games since twenty eighteen twenty nineteen, and with
this being a point in the season, went hey, guys
kind of hit the wall. You kind of saw a
little bit with Kyrie's not taking didn't take as many shots,
(23:14):
didn't really affect the game, wasn't getting the rim to
finish as much as he normally does. That's my big
fear is that, Okay, this is when they really need him.
You're talking about the Timberwolves and their defense. It's gonna
be geared up for Luca. This is when you need Hey,
here's we need some vintage Kyrie to go for thirty
and thirty five. And I don't know the guy can
do it, just because it may have been this may
be where it's too much basketball. He hasn't done it
(23:36):
this many games in a long time, and he's he's
kind of just running on vapors, right, Yeah, I just.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
Wonder how much in their run here, it's the that
complimentary basketball that you've been looking for for Luca to
have someone else to work with, and for Kyrie it's
always been such so ball heavy on his part that
you've had all those weary minutes because we've had a
lot of conversation, right, veteran players and how much you
(24:03):
know your your taxed on both ends of the court.
And Kyrie made a number of good defensive plays, good
help defense, uh in the last series, and and came
up big for them in spots, even if the overall
numbers offensively didn't jump off the page again owing to PJ.
Washington's rise and what he he became and Luca and
(24:24):
because Luca wasn't terribly efficient, right if we're gonna go
down that road last series, but it was enough to
get him going. And and we we look at, you know,
the vanquishing of those Denver Nuggets, and how we I think,
you know, with with Minnesota, look at the depth that
(24:45):
they've established obviously with nas Red as the sixth Man
of the Year. Uh, the importance of a Mike Conley
h what they were able to do and make Michael
Porter Junior and Aaron Gordon afterthoughts, right, guys that we're
going to be the big piece. And I think that's
the bigger part is that you were able to erase
(25:05):
two guys who were really good and look, Jokic and
Murray for three quarters had great games, right, Jamal Murray
was fantastic in that game seven for three quarters and
then he kind of disappeared offensively until a last minute
kind of give me layup as they're running out the clock.
(25:25):
But you know, for Dallas, I don't know if I say,
Kyrie's at a wall, but can he take over like
he used to? No, I don't think that guy's there.
Can he distribute? Maybe?
Speaker 2 (25:38):
But I'm just afraid of all the size. How do
you match up? And I like.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Gafford, I think he's a pretty good player, and Washington,
who's come in and helped solidify the front line. I
just don't think they have enough in terms of bodies
to run at these guys. I mean, that's a lot
of fouls like you can beat the hell out of
Luca and really play the wacky game of operation if
you want, because you got six each from a bunch
(26:03):
of seven footers.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
It's it's it's tough to look at this and say, well,
these guys have taken over so many games, so many times,
like what defense can really stop them? And I and
I don't want to I don't want to look at
this and say, Okay, it's not my lack of confidence
in them, it's this. You've seen what the Timberwolves defense
can do, and they know how to play it without
getting playoff whistles. That's the biggest thing is we can
(26:27):
play it without Hey, all of a sudden, all our
guys are in trouble because Scott Foster is blowing the
whistle every five seconds. Like they can play defense. And
and they've translated that to the playoffs where it's okay,
we're not suddenly have to back off because we're in
foul trouble and our stars are in foul trouble. They
figured that out. There's just it's just too much to
to overwhelm Luca and Kyrie. That that's that's more what
(26:51):
I look at as in Kyrie, I if it was,
I felt it was a.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
Kyrie at full strength.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
Maybe it will be a little different, but it's it's
it's hard for me to see them. It's spinning more
than one game. Yeah, it really is, well.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
Because I think on the other side, I mean, look
at the way the Tea Wolves advance. Edward was not
good for most of that game, right and in game
seven for all the look, he's a great sound bite
and he's a great exciting star. We've talked about it
a lot as you defended your guy, Jalen Brunson, oftentimes
in terms of coverage and what we're watching and trying
(27:24):
to parse through highlight reels into impact. Edwards wasn't what
he shoots six for twenty four or something to that end,
and made a couple of big plays late, had a
big fourth quarter, a couple of defensive stops, I get it.
Tried to claim he lockdown Murray and Murray shot back
at him whatever else, but like he didn't play well
and they still won that game. They were still able
(27:46):
to take care of that game. Like you just have
depth when you look at Gobert and the shot that
he hit, like you know that and that was the
for lack of a better term to come to Jesus
moment when he shoots that jump shot falling away over
jok It's like, all right, the basketball gods are now
with you to finish this thing up.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
And you look.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
And we talked about Karl Anthony Towns a couple of
weeks ago and how well he'd been playing and hopefully
he's physically fine.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
I like that he took an exception to some of the.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Reporter stuff going We've been terrible for twenty years, we
kept losing what do you want? And his voice got
kind of high and squeaky, which kind of took people aback.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
But the big guy is you.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
Know, you got Conley, who's basically Kyrie on the other side.
Right when he plays, things go well and there's a
calmness to what that squad is able to do. So
his availability is key and helps to neutralize maybe some
of the advantage you'd have by the veteran guard play
on the other side.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
Exit out about a Fresco exit swelling down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carbon All right,
so I'm going t wolves and five.
Speaker 2 (28:53):
I'll go six five.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
Six, Yeah, gotta sweat a little bit, you sweat a
little bit meat sweats. Yeah, Luca and company are good
enough to come up with a couple of big efforts,
and defensively they've bought in.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
So that's the thing.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
I'll hang my hat on the fact that they can
give it the old college try one more time defensively.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
For Mark Cuban, Jason, you need to apologize to our
boss immediately for taking the Wolves in five. Well if
when the Wolves winning five, he's gonna love it. The
last time you've ever said that and it's come true.
He's I got to be right at some point.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
Right, Well, I did get the quote from him after
they advanced, Wolves are quotes.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
Wolves are the best again.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
This is the greatest time in Minnesota sports history. This
is the golden age of sports in Minnesota. The Twins
are great, right, They're right up there at first place there.
Of course, the Guardians keep beating the Mets every day,
so that's not you. But you have the Timberwolves in
the NBA Western Conference Finals. I mean you have a
new beginning in Minnesota with JJ McCarthy and Sam Darld.
(29:55):
This is the golden age. Alex Rodriguez, that team in court.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
What to call what a golden age sports man.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Taylor's gonna get forced out because of what a tankey
dank ownership.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
What a time to be alive.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
I tell you you want to play a game coming
up next' rock do we have what is going to
wind up being the greatest football game We're gonna play
all year long, and we get a special version of
it because of what was said earlier day coming up
next week. Now, it's not gonna be the Magic Johnson
(30:33):
Twitter game. We're not because it's something else. What is
it that we're expanding Fox?
Speaker 7 (30:39):
I like this music better anyways. That's fine, ladies and gentlemen.
Late night with the Devil kind of scary. It's also late.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Harmon.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Well more NBA on the way, but it's.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
Time to have fun with a great NFL story from today. Today,
Chargers linebacker Denzel Perriman did an interview, was asked, Hey,
what's Jim Harball like? You know the first time around?
OTAs are going on and was asked yesterday and it's
just starting to go viral today, and Perriman said, well,
he kind of reminds me of Will Ferrell. Okay, what
(31:28):
do you mean, like Will Ferrell? Like maybe Will Ferrell
from Step Brothers, but maybe not. But he reminds him
of Will Ferrell the way he talks, what he says.
That he's funny, but he's also demanding. So again, Denzel
Perriman says, Jim Harbaugh reminds him of Will Ferrell. Now
you know we're gonna play the game this year on Mondays?
Did Jim Harbaugh say that yesterday? So instead I got
(31:52):
an idea, and this is going to be now the
brainchild of Justin Frosberg, where I said, what if we
did a game tonight where we decide to say who
said it? Jim Harbaugh or Will Ferrell from.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
One of his movies.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
Oh, that's a long, extensive list of characters right there
playing as myself, you, Martin Weiss, Alex TiSER, nothing, Frostbun
take it.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
Away ready, let's go?
Speaker 2 (32:19):
Yes, bring it like the Celtics not the Pacers.
Speaker 6 (32:22):
All right, Okay, I turned it over yet I think
sexy about Orange County there's no.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Harball.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
Now wait a minute, now, wait a minute, there's nothing
sexy about Orange County.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
I mean, now you're trying to put you Yeah, that's
where the Chargers are trying to figure out what the.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
Uh yeah, they practiced boys would be if it was
Will Ferros.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
There's nothing said County. There's nothing sexy about Orange County.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
Who like? Is that an Acreman two line?
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Did he ever say there's nothing sexy about Orange County?
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Boy? Yeah, with a tough one right off the bat.
You know what I'll say.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
I told you I'll sell some guys if you were
bringing it. No, I'll say it be from everything must go.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
I'll say Harball. That's a horrible I'll say Harball. But
I'm I'm confused, right, Martin, what do you got that?
I'll go ahead, and that you know, Harball's got his things.
I'm gonna go with Will Ferrell though it feels like
an Anchorman line. Okay, all right, it feels anchorman to me,
all right, tight shirt?
Speaker 7 (33:23):
Yeah, there's no way Will Ferrell is ever going to
be seen in Orange County. That is definitely Will Farrell.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
You think it's wrong, although too Jim Harborough does live
in a trailer park in Orange County.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
That's true, that's not sexy. Okay, let's find out it's
an RV park.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
Hey, Kenny Chesney, you know we're singing about people thinking
his tractor was sexy sexy, so an RV could be too.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
Sure? All right, that was not Jim Harbaugh? What was
that for? Will Ferrell? From what you can google it,
there's nothing that really wasn't Jim Harble. That's not gonna
get much better. All this game is great? What's next? Next? Next? Next?
Speaker 6 (34:06):
I have a memory like an elephant, I never forget.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Ooh. Now, that could be a Burgundy. That could be
a step Brothers. That could be a Ricky Bobby. That
could also be Jim Harble. Although would he say I
have a memory like a wolverine. I'm gonna say that's
Will Ferrell. I'm gonna say that's Will Farrell. Will Ferrell.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
I'm gonna go harba that. If it was Farrell, it
would have been even have botched the.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
Line, old man, I'll scissor kick you in the meting
like that. Alright? What he got that feels like a
Harbor is okay? All right? Tight shirt?
Speaker 7 (34:43):
Would you say, Jason, I said, Will Ferrell. Oh yeah,
then Harba.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
Well then you would be correct, Alex.
Speaker 4 (34:50):
Oh really, this is the best game ever.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
This is great. You suck, Jason.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
I gotta get one of these, right, Okay, listen, your
whole philosophy is going opposite of me.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
That's a day you can't fault a good strategy. One
of the truisms of the show him who's owing tune?
Who's to?
Speaker 8 (35:12):
And?
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Oh do you even know who Jim Harbaugh is? No? Okay,
so there we go.
Speaker 7 (35:18):
All right, Will Ferrell though, Okay, is that a character
Will Ferrell plays?
Speaker 2 (35:21):
Yes, he plays Jim Harbaugh in Dumb and Dumber. Yeah,
this is the guy that Orosford bowls down to. Yeah, yeah,
all right, Crosbury, what's next.
Speaker 6 (35:31):
I don't take vacations, I don't get sick, I don't
observe major holidays. I am a jackhammer. Oh no, that's
that's Harball. I'm confident that's Harbor. I want to double
down and the ones I got wrong. I can't double that.
I can't. But this is a new game. We're inventing
the game.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
Yeah, but from my world, now, grandmapa, I'll says, kick
in the back of that.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
That's horrbor. I'm going, Will Ferrell, that's hard.
Speaker 6 (35:57):
Yeah, you also have to have one to double down.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
Don't I wait, don't I have like a marker or something?
Don't have like it? No, I don't have a tab.
I don't have a tab. Alright, that's fine, Martin.
Speaker 9 (36:10):
Yeah, that feels like a horrible for sure. Okay, okay,
ty Shirt, you were way too confident. I can't go
against you on that one. That's harm Or was I
just faking my mouse? There's no way okay, wanted to
double down? You double down a face I did? That
would be what's mind blowing?
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Right there? You're not that big doubling down on a face,
all right? Justin?
Speaker 6 (36:32):
Grief is nature's most powerful afrodisiac.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
No wait, you didn't know it wasn't answer to the last.
That was horrible? All right? All right, okay, all right,
I was trying to get one more. Okay, what is it? Good?
What do you got?
Speaker 6 (36:44):
Grief is nature's most powerful aphrodisiac.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
Oh that no, that's that's Will Ferrell. I'm going Will Ferrell.
You will absolutely Martin, absolutely clean, sweet friends, that's wedding
crashers right there.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
Oh is that right, Frostburg. Yeah, I mean that was
an easy one, all right.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Now I'm feeling pretty good. All right now, I feel
like I been crashing a funerals. Now the game's over.
I feel like I'm just doing good at.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
It now well and four oh from the updates.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
Very nice, very and very humble as well. Very good,
very good in the game we just made up, You're
four and oh very good, very good.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
Yeah me too, No big deal, all right, maybe we'll
play this again next hour. That it was pretty good.
I was attacked with an enthusiasm on the man cond.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
Big stuff out of the NBA coming up next right here,
Jason and Mike.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
This is fun. That is nickelback. Jason
