Speaker 4 (00:52):
Why what happened? You've just introduced me as Mike Harmon
without any any tag times.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
I just I'm sorry, several times in a row, I
say it was very apparent.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
Oh, I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (01:05):
So sometimes they find out the hard way.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
Mike, Well, you know, I didn't think it would be
in front of the national audience.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
They do say public is the best way to find out.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Well, that's it.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
I mean, you know you're getting for everyone. I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Listen, I was just and I thought you were going
to talk about how Tyser was like ten minutes late
playing the Timmy drops.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
But okay, I just like to.
Speaker 5 (01:23):
Your guys's renditions better, dude, man, see it is better.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
But see, there is one thing, Mike that I will
always give to you, and that is my best friendship.
Speaker 5 (01:31):
Imlike Jason, so.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Oh wow, welcome.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Wait so you're counting how many times I say my
best friend or.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Not you normally? No, it's just it was very apparent
you like.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Making x's on the wall.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
Like see, it's just you know, a prevalent thing where
I'm like, all right and one and two? How long
is the best it's coming?
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Last week, he said I was his best friend in
eighty seven percent of the rejoins. This week it's only
been sixty four percent of the rejoint so far.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Happening. I should have called that guy. I really should have.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Have only been his best friend in fifty two percent
of the rejoins tonight.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
What's happening? It's really knocked down? So I mean, yew,
was my performance off? I thought, I thought, it's been
a pretty good show. Pretty performance. Your performer, you kid,
your perform.
Speaker 5 (02:16):
I mean you could have agreed with him on Buker.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
You know that wasn't happening that swollen No, Matt, how
about a presca at Fox Sports Radio if you want
to go back and relive that.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
One, Yeah, or just listen to Tysher play the Timmy drops,
tim Man, give me now before we get into Kyrie
Irving and the night the Mavericks had, let's the big
story tonight. And speaking of the show being ahead of
the curve, what did we tell you two weeks ago?
I don't know if we actually said the words we amazed.
Everybody should be lining up.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
And and and and and.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Paying homage and shaking Caitlin Clark's hand because of the
attention she's bringing to the WNBA and to stop this, Hey,
there's an issue with her and her fame in this.
And here's what's happening in all this, Well, you told
you that like two and a half weeks ago, Barkley,
I think went on inside the NBA sights. Everybody should
be kissing Kaitlyn Clark's ass from what she's bringing and
she's got you all. You guys got charter flights.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
In a week.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
I'm like, wow, Okay, then I mean.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Again, sometimes it's tonight's takes two weeks ago, which was
our take two weeks ago, so okay, congratulations to that
going on tonight.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
So now it's sometimes nice to hear it amplified. You know,
you'd like for folks to go back to the source material,
but you know, you know how that is. Kids have
a problem with writing and putting proper references at the
end of papers these days, and we know that in
broadcast media as well. Credit is not often given, but
we knows, like we say, information is free.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Congratulations on taking that take from two weeks ago and
throwing it out tonight like it was brand new.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Awesome looks.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
But speaking of Charles Barkley inside the NBA, so much
talk today about how it's now a FATA complete t
n T is going to be losing the NBA. Big
article today that the negotiations are going to be finished
sometime in the next couple of days and ESPN and
NBC are going to be the new big homes of
(04:18):
the NBA and TNT is not going to have the
basketball package that they've had for the past few years.
ESPN has what's called the A Package, and tn T
has the B Package, which of course is inside the
NBA games during the week and everything else. Now, everything
we saw today, we've seen the last few days, is
the negotiations are happening. They are you know, they're likely
(04:39):
gonna be done by the end of the week. And
you've seen a lot of hey boy, inside, the NBA
is gonna go away, and that's gonna be so sad.
And Charles Barkley has talked about it very you know,
very openly about how look, this sucks and and and
and you know, we don't know what the future is
gonna be in all of these things.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
And he's right, right, it does suck.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
It's suck.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Know, it sucks for any time that people lose sports,
And you don't know what you think of people behind
the scenes. I hope they can all keep gigs job somewhere.
But the bottom line is it looks like TNT is
gonna lose the NBA and they're not gonna have games,
which means the NBC is gonna have a big package.
They want to have what's called the Sunday Night Basketball
Night in America, playing off the Sunday Night Football Night
(05:21):
in America. They're gonna have a big NBA game on
Sunday Night, just like when when the NFL season ends,
just like they did during the football season. Amazon, you know,
can get involved on some things. So it looks like
it's coming to the end of an era. But for
all of this talk to inside, the NBA is gonna
go away. Okay, First of all, it's not happening.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
This is still the gold standard show. This is still
a show that everybody wants to see. This is not
a show that's been past its expiration date. This is
a show that could run forever if they wanted it to.
They change personalities a couple of personalities. We've in and
out every few years. Shack has certainly stayed the longest
time to team up with with with Kenny and Charles.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
You know, we had a few years of Chris Weber and.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Other people in there, but inside the NBA with them
and Ernie Johnson the host, it has been the gold
standard of television. Of sports television shows, pregame shows, postgame shows.
People tune in just to watch them when there's a
bad NBA game. Oh yeah, what's the game. What's the
game today? Well, it's Sacramento and Detroit. Let's see what
they say after the game, and may have an extra
long postgame just because hey, you guys got to say
(06:22):
something and people pay attention. It's still that great at show.
It's not going away. It's simply going to be something different.
Whether Amazon, who has all kinds of money, they can
make it happen. ESPN has wanted some of these guys
for a long time. They can make it happen and
bring the Inside the NBA team to ESPN. This is
still going to exist now. The big domino is going
(06:45):
to be, of course, Ernie Johnson, because he has talked
about how he doesn't want to go someplace else. Charles
Barkley said today, maybe he's going to retire now.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
A lot of this could be posturing. You don't know.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Er Ernie Johnson, I think is going to be seventy
may want to retire. But it also could be, oh,
you want me to host the show. You're gonna be
twenty five million dollars a year. Yeah, I can do
Inside the NBA on Amazon or ESPN. So it could
be a negotiating ploy. It could be real that he
might not want to go. But it's not like these
guys aren't gonna be together in some way, shape or
form doing the show. It's just gonna be different. If
(07:17):
it's Ernie Johnson hosting it, great, If it's not, somebody
else will come in and do the show, because that's
just kind of how things go right, just like a
TV show when people leave and other people. When stars leave,
other stars come in to take their place, and the
show goes on and we argue whether or not the
show is better or worse with the guy taking over.
I mean, it's not all the time you're taking over
for Steve Corell in the office, but sometimes you are.
(07:38):
So it's still gonna be around. It's still gonna be
a show that's on somewhere. It's just like I said,
maybe it's the same, maybe it's a little bit different,
Maybe it's a maybe it's a maybe it's it's somewhat different,
but it's still gonna be those guys talking basketball still
with the relationships they have, still the people that they
talk about on the set, The still have Draymond Green
on with them. Maybe there's one maybe Ernie Johnson's there.
(08:00):
Maybe it's not, but we're gonna get inside the NBA.
The show is not just gonna die and go away.
It's not happening. Yeah, I mean you have to decide.
Are you a Robert California guy? Are you a D'Angelo
Vickers guy? I mean, I mean you can go either way.
I'd be look that, you know, And they didn't really
replace it when you think about it, they didn't really
replace Steve Carrell with it, like, oh remember that was
(08:21):
Who's gonna replace Steve Carroll. I liked the little bit
they did with Ray Romano when he was the guy
eat in.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
The sandwich all the couple of random actors pop in
for an episode or two. Yeah, yeah, I mean you
had your vase pop in for a minute. You don't know.
I mean obviously you were thinking about Spin City as well.
Michael J. Fox tags out Charlie Sheen. Charlie Sheen tags
out of two and a half men. Did you like
Ashton Kutcher? Maybe you did, maybe you.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Didn't, but either way, uh, Shelley Long leaves cheers, Kirsty
Ally shows up like it happens.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
Boom right, show, show must go on, right, partner's move
shows change all of those things. And for these guys, yeah,
I mean in the core, it would be great to
have them together. I don't know if you, uh was
there video of Barkley? Was he standing there holding a
giant bag with a dollar sign as he made his comments.
I don't know if erd he's coming back, but if
(09:13):
you want to know, you know this triggers you know,
my contract would be up and no and void and
all that stuff. So yeah, again hoping that because of
part of part of it is the on on camera.
Obviously those guys are the faces of it all, but
behind the scenes it has to work, right. There's a decided.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Difference, uh, in any show, in an entertainment process, when
a producer is out or you lose some of your
your support, writing staff, editors, camera, like all of those things.
So hopefully they're they they're look.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
They look, get looked out for and and taken a
with wherever uh this next entity is. But you know,
dollars and cents and schedules and you know, opportunities, right,
Charles loss that show you doing in the afternoons or
whatever the hell that was the political slash social thing
that's done will there be another iteration of that? Maybe
(10:08):
maybe not. But between he, Kenny Smith, and of course Shaq,
I mean, Shacks had got his hand in a million things.
Who knows, maybe he ends up being the coach of
the Lakers. I don't know. All opportunities, everything's on the table.
But if it's done, then we had one hell of
I mean, how long was it, like twenty years?
Speaker 3 (10:30):
I think more than that.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
I was at twenty five. I mean like something like
that is like ninety nine, almost as long as it
was between Nick's big series.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
You know, No, it was longer than that because I
remember when I was at ESPN as a production assistant.
Tim Kiley was ESPN producers that I worked with a lot.
I did have worked on a lot of his shows.
I told you a great, great dude. He left ESPN
like when I was still there in like when I
was approached like in like ninety five ninety six to
(10:59):
go to go to Turner to do to go do
football and inside the NBA.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
So I think it's longer than that.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Actually, yeah, So I mean you're looking at this long
history and obviously a lot of huge moments and highlights,
and then all of their speaking points.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
They've all kind of referenced it, right. You had that
great pregame clip that was making the rounds of Ernie
Johnson talking to Kyrie Irving who joined them after their
Game one win. But you know you could see it
on Ernie's face. You know, there's some as he was
happy to see Kyrie, but clearly he was being asked
about the process and what they've got going on based
(11:37):
on the news from today. Ways heavy, no question about
a guy in his late sixties, been doing this forever
company guy and that's his baby, and I think he
stirs the drink and if he wants to rally to
the next spot, I think it would be fairly easy
because I mean, what executives not saying what's the checkbook?
(11:59):
How big is the check gotta be.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
That's why a place like Amazon that's like we can
do it, like because ESPN is like, boy, that's a
lot of money, Like you're gonna have to get shat.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
You have to get those guys.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
That's just gave it all the stephen A. Smith Ye
Shannon Sharp saying you're you're, you're in the high hundreds
of millions of dollars. That's why I think something like
Amazon where it's like hundreds of million. Yeah, well we
could do that today.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
What do you need? You know, we got the money?
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Yeah, yeah, in between hot takes underneath you're you're you're
selling blenders and alcohol.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Jason, Yeah, what do you got? Frustra.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
I think people are saying it's the end of Inside
the NBA strictly because of Ernie Johnson.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Yeah, but but you don't know if he's leading.
Speaker 5 (12:39):
We do know though, Yeah, he's a very loyal man. Yeah,
he said he's gonna stay in the TNT family. Okay,
we have to take him out.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
Of his word. Okay, no, I'm not saying that that
that he's not, so.
Speaker 5 (12:50):
It's not send show Inside the NBA only works with
Ernie Johnson as host.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Say Amazon says, hey, all right, we have thirty million
dollars a year for each of you think it's about
the money, But what I'm saying is and for these
guys that he spent so much time with to go
do a couple of years for them, Hey, for Charles
and Shaq and Kenny.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
They want the show to go well.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
And look, Ernie Johnson gets a lot of credit because
why because he's someone that the four of them when
they're all on the set, that they all listen to
right and they pay it. They don't just steamroll him.
That he's able to run the show and run the ship.
And that's pretty valuable because the next host they could
put in, they might just talk right over walk right
over them, just like kind of Lebron and ad walk
over hervers coach for the Lakers, like they want somebody
(13:34):
in there, sorry too soon. They want somebody in there.
They want Ernie there because they want it to be
that show they want. They don't want to have to
worry about, well, we have these guys. We're giving them
a lot of money. It's really not working because we
have a new host in and then people aren't watchings.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
It's not the same thing. No, whoever buy gets that
and wants that show to succeed.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
They're going to do all they can to bring all
of them together.
Speaker 5 (13:56):
But overlap with his MLB coverage on T n T.
Remember he's the studio host for that as well.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Yeah, but I think they I think if they really
want him, when I'm sure an entity would, they would
come up with things they can do that he could
do if he wants to leave and go again. It's
all part of negotiations, man, it's all part back to
the fun and exciting world that we've had. Well we
had in Chicago, right where Bennetti, who's now gone off
to the Tigers. He's the White Sox guy. But guess what, well,
(14:30):
and now and now the new guys not me because
the team staks and hurt again. But the new guy
is fighting with all the radio people.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
In Chicago calling them losers. Bad bad, bad idea. You're
learning on the job, you're making mistakes, just wear it.
It'll be okay. But Bennetti left and but he still
is going to do the same thing with the Tigers.
He's missing he like, he missed several games already in
the first month to go do spring football Fox right.
(15:00):
He was on the Ohio State and on the Michigan calls.
So you know it's that kind of thing. All right, Well,
you've got this job and we love you. But yes,
obviously there's carve outs and ways you can work contracts.
I think there can be a solution reach. So everybody
gets fed and we get a lot of hugs from
Ernie Johnson.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Exit out about a Fresco exit, swallen down The Jason
Smith Show with my best favorite.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
Going to be Jimmy Fallon mostings.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
So you guys, you guys, you guys played basketball. Right now,
I'm gonna sing, will you will you guys play beer
pong with me?
Speaker 4 (15:41):
All of you? Like we do that? Let's just play
another game forget about the content and.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
Then check us.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
We got the Lakers and the Celtics coming up in
a half hour. Yeah, but if we play beer pong together,
that'd be pretty cool. Coming up next, speaking of basketball,
we get back into the biggest story of the night
and one storyline that needs to see it cease at
least for the.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
Next couple of weeks. What is it? We'll tell you
next right here Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 4 (17:08):
There, you're happy.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
You're happy, You're happy, jerk you happy.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
You know, we worry about where you are on the
you know, ups and downs, the highways and byway since
the Nicks have been eliminated and the Mets suck, so
suddenly I'm not your best friend. Everything you know has
been torn us under, and we want to make sure
that you are in your best place going forward.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
Uh, we'll get to Anthony Edwards coming up in a
couple as my best friend and I we'll get to
Anthony Edwards in a couple of minutes. But uh, the Mavericks,
the Timberwolves tonight one to wait one oh five, Dallas
wins it. It was a first three quarters that was
owned by Kyrie Irving.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
Fourth quarter was a different story.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Now, if you're ready for a new job, you can
let Express Employment Professionals help. Express is hiring for jobs
in a variety of industry. These job seekers never pay
a fee in Express. Check out expresspros dot com to
find your location. That's Expresspros dot com. Now it's time
for the Express pros Pro of the week. And when
you go nuts like you did in the fourth quarter
to win Game one, well, Luka Doncic, you get to
(18:14):
be the Express pros Pro of the week.
Speaker 6 (18:19):
Oh you know, come on, yea god thirty he's cutting
back inside for forty about those York for twenty five.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
Twenty all right five.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Hi man.
Speaker 5 (18:35):
MAVs Radio was pumped.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
Yeah boy, Luca, I didn't know Luca had that failed
six eighteen thousand.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
Uh you know yeah, home fans really still got excited.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
It sounded like fifty thousand, how about that?
Speaker 4 (18:50):
But here it is. It's Luka Dantic the Express pros
Pro of the week. Now it's just the Luca left
wings just about the break against.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Alexander Walker ripping through.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
Now takes the three and hitch it having straight points for.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Doncic and a China call by Mike and Nori has the.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
Beverage have taken the lead.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
MAVs Radio Network on the call thirty three for Luka
Doncic big shots at the end.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
It was a fourth quarter that he absolutely took as.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
His own as the MAVs take game one.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Now, two big things stand out from this.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Right Luca and we talked about Kyrie and how stunned
I was that Kyrie has been playing this well still
this late in the season.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
No controversies, unbelievable. But there was one controversy.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
It's getting a lot of run and it's a play
that quite honestly is not nearly as controversial as it's.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Being made out to be.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
In the final I'm not saying it wasn't a big play,
but controversy, yeah, not quite. It was a two point
game in the foot about a minute left to go
of this game, and the Mavericks had a two point
lead over the Tea Wolves.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
And for the Timberwolves, look, they were looking everywhere. They
could at Karl.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
Anthony Towns, who was just on an absolute heater in
the fourth quarter. He was hitting threes, he was he
was setting up alley oops, he was converting alley oops.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
He was doing everything.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
And with about a minute left to go, Mike Conley
Junior took a really bad three and Carl Anthony Towns
flies in grabs the rebound dunks it tie game at
one oh four. Except right after it was over, you
saw the Mavericks they all did the circle with the hand,
go look at it. The ball was in the cylinder,
And sure enough the call comes down that the ball
(20:34):
was in the cylinder, no basket. So now it's a
one o four, one oh two lead for the Dallas Mavericks.
Luca goes on to make a jumper to give him
a four point lead. The Timberwolves are chasing from there
on out, uh, and they don't really get to within
a couple of points the rest of the way. Now
is this controversial, eh in theory and I think when
(20:55):
you see the angle of the video for a little while,
but quite honestly, yeah, I see why they called it
because the ball was in the cylinder. Now we only
get a couple of angles of this player. Karl Anthony
Towns was shocked. He was like a WWE wrestler, like,
what's happening? Isn't something running run out from the locker
room is gonna beat me up?
Speaker 4 (21:15):
He's stunned.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
But you see the play and you see the big
angle is the overhead angle, the one that we get
from behind the backboard. And it's kind of an optical
illusion because it looks like the ball goes up and
it clears the front of the rim, almost like oh,
this ball is bouncing out and then Karl Anthony Towns
grabs it and dunks it.
Speaker 4 (21:34):
Not quite.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
It's kind of optical illusion because you think the ball's
going forward, but it's not. It's going straight up. Just
when it clears the rim, you think, oh, this ball
is moving differently. But you can see when you follow
the path of the ball, this ball hits the rim,
it bounces straight up and it comes straight back down.
And if it wasn't touched by Karl Anthony Towns, it
looked like the majority of the ball would have hit
(21:59):
the major ball would have been inside the cylinder right
the outside of the ball would have hit the rim.
So I completely get why they called it offensive goaltending.
It's a tough call to make at that point, but
the ball was up in the air. It was a
bad bounce. It was a tough bounce for Minnesota. But
you know, seeing it as many times, it's yeah, it's
a really rough call to make at that point. But
(22:20):
they went back and they looked at it pretty fast
and said, yeah, that ball's in the cylinder. I mean,
I don't know how you look at it and say
the ball's out of it, because it clearly isn't. But
I get from that one angle, which is what a
lot of people saw, Oh, it looks like it's out.
But if you follow the ball up and then you
see it go straight back down when he grabs the ball,
the ball's in the cylinder. It doesn't matter where it
(22:41):
is when it's up to even if you think it's
out up top, when it comes back down, he grabs
it and it's in the cylinder there.
Speaker 4 (22:46):
So I thought that was a good call. I was
okay with them making that call. Yeah, it's unfortunate. I mean,
you don't have a true angle or opposite angle or
anything that's gonna give you any more clarity, right because
the camera angle is not directly down from the ceiling
over the basket, right, we don't have that. We're close
and as best as we have that. You try to
(23:09):
look at the spin spin of the ball, and we're
not judging spin rate. I know some old heads were
really up in their stuff about exit velocity and spin
rate and stuff today, So hug them if you see
them on the streets. But it's the idea of trying
to ascertain, you know, where it is relative to the rim. Right,
(23:30):
is it coming down on the rim? If that's the case,
that's it. That's all that matters. Right, it's in the
cylinder and it gets overruled. And the fact that it
did not become a five minute review, which we've had
how many times this playoff run. We've had a lot
of reviews like, all right, why don't you just go
to commercial, pay a couple of bills and then come
(23:51):
back see because then you can afford more of your
coverage for years to come see Science. But in this case,
very quick review. Back back to it and as you said,
cat incredulous thought he got it clean. But you saw
the Mavericks players trying to cover up they're ineptitude and
getting back to cover up cat in any way, shape
(24:11):
or form down the lane. They were very quick to
try to point out that they needed to review, which
begets this question. Also, if I get one review right,
I get a second right.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Why can't I keep parlaying that if I'm correcting double
enough stakes like this when.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
I get two more, and if I miss this when
I get none.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
But I'm just saying, right, if I get the first
one right, you give me a second one.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
But then even if I get the second one right
and get another official call overturn you know one they
got wrong.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
Suddenly I'm out of challenges.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
That doesn't seem right.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
So you want to be like a make it you
take it as long as you win every one you
get to just keep going, okay, all right, make it,
take it?
Speaker 4 (24:52):
All right, right, very good.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
He's won his last six challenge.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
Oh but he loses this one.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
That's why I mean, and I get it.
Speaker 4 (24:58):
It's it's potentially a lot lot of stoppages.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
But that's also means that your coaching staff identified six
opportunities or the official got something wrong.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
Way.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
Hey, speaking of stopping, how about how about the last
like twenty seconds of that the Kate len Clark.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
The Fever Storm game took about fifteen.
Speaker 4 (25:17):
Oh my goodness, and a lot a lot of people
to find it on Twitter though.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
Yeah, oh no, no, it was great.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Like I said, two hundred thousand people are watching a
WNBA game at midnight.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
I think that's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
Uh So with that controversy there, you know, it seems
like they put and again, there were other chances Minnesota
had to win the game. They got the ball back
and uh and and Mike Conley Junior makes a horrendous
alley you pass with five guys.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
In the paint and turns it over and that was
a bad play.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
There's nothing that I can look and say, oh that play,
that call cough Minnesota the game.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
No, there's lots of mistakes.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
They made, things they could have done.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
I say it for the Knicks, I say it for
the Pacers. I say it for the Celtics.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
There's lots of things they could have done that could
have helped them win that game. Now, one of the
things would have helped them win the most is if
Anthony Edwards had a good game.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
And for Anthony Edwards, it's it's it's time.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
To stop trying to make him happen, and we've seen
it the last couple of weeks and it's completely out
of control. Anthony Edwards is the next face of the league.
You know what, the average NBA fan is just learning
who he is. Okay, Yes, he's been in the league
for four years. He's been a good player. Right, I'm
not saying he's not. He's really good. Right, He's a
really good player. But all of a sudden, because we
(26:28):
need that face of the league because it hasn't where
we have, we don't know who that's gonna be. Anthony
Edwards is Michael Jordan? Whoa whoa, whoa, whoa whoa. Just
stop for a second, right, I saw this with Mac
Jones and Tom Brady and it didn't work out. I
knew it wasn't gonna work out. It's not gonna work
out now. Anthony Edwards is not Michael Jordan. Anthony Edwards
is a really good player. But I've seen that no
matter what kind of game that Anthony Edwards has, it's
(26:51):
still met with He's still the great. But he's still next.
He's still and it's like Scretchen Wieners trying to make
fetch happen. Right, he had a really bad game seven
against the Nuggets, but they wound up winning the game.
Speaker 4 (27:03):
And what did we hereafter?
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Oh well, despite poor shooting, look how good he was
in other aspects of the game. No, No, the team
was good defensively, other guys bailed him out offensively. The
guy shot six for twenty four. You can't sit here
and tell me what a great offensive player is and
say had a great game when he shoots six for
twenty four.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
Can't do it.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
But that's what we're getting. And that's why this has
to stop, because now it's just no matter what kind
of game he has, people are gonna say he's great.
Like I'm waiting to see how they spin this game
tomorrow because he had a bad game tonight. Yes, you
can look at his stats and go he was close
to a triple double. He was invisible when they needed
a hoop in the fourth quarter. He was invisible. He
wanted to guard Kyrie Irving. Kyrie Irving toasted him for
(27:42):
three quarters and then maybe he was tired at the end. Well,
guess what, you're twenty two years old. You should be
ready to go, should be ready for this fourth quarter.
If you want the moment you got to answer for it,
and he was nowhere to be found.
Speaker 4 (27:53):
Right.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
He had a couple of shots in the fourth quarter.
He took sixteen shots tonight, twelve of them were threes. Like,
this is not what the next Michael Jordan does. This
is not Mike even Michael Jordan at off nights. This
is a guy still figuring out how to be a star.
I'm not saying he's not a star player. I'm not
saying he's not a great player. But all of this, Oh,
Michael Jordan, Michael Jordan, that's just stupid.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
This is just the media. Hey, we need to have
somebody be the next guy.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
And because Anthony Edwards is really athletic, and he wears
the same sweat band around the right near the elbow
like Kobe.
Speaker 4 (28:25):
And MJ did ah, he's in Michael Jordan. He's Michael Jordan.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Stop.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
We watch it with Mac Jones and Tom Brady and
and look where Mac Jones is right now. He's backing
up Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville and it never happened for him.
It's the same thing here. If the guy's gonna be
great and gonna be next, he's going to do it.
Talking about it every day and propping him up whenever
he has a bad game, or oh look what he did.
He he told the guy and the other team. He
told the locker roointendant will see you in game seven. Wait,
(28:50):
that's really big trash talk. Like that's so overblown.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
It's like that's not true.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
That's not great trash talking to. It's not even another
player he was talking to. He was talking to a
clubhouse guy saying I'll see you for game seven. But
everything with him is overblown and it's time that that's
got to stop. Although probably won't because I'll turn on
the TV tomorrow I'll still find somebody saying, oh and
you know, hey, not his fault, can't blame him. Oh
you know he was just all the stuff that happened.
Everything I know we're gonna see it tomorrow, but really
(29:18):
see through this, all of this anointment of Anthony Edwards.
Speaker 4 (29:22):
Has to stop. Yeah, good to great player guy with
some highlight reels and on it. And he owns it
right when he fails, Like that's one thing I do
respect as a young player that he's owned it. The
whole thing with the locker room attendant. What's he gonna say,
I lost and and you'll find the envelopes. They're in
(29:42):
a lock box and you have to guess the combination.
Like you're in knives out, go see if you can
solve this puzzle. Instead you take a hammer to it
and smash it. Spoiler alert, But you go through the
process and is it for this game?
Speaker 1 (29:58):
Four shots in the four quarter and only four shots
all game that weren't a three point shot and he
shot well from three. I take nothing from that, but
like this was an opportunity in a one or two
possession game, and this goes for the t Wolves overall.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
You shot forty nine to three pointers.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
Take the ball inside, make these guys work down low,
even out the battle for the points in the paint,
and you probably win the game.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
Instead, you're living at the three point arc and that
includes Anthony Edwards.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
Need more aggressiveness, even if you're getting tired guarding the
old guy Kyrie Irving Exit ab out of Fresco, Exit Swallen' Dome.

Tyrock dot Com Studios.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
At Gretchen Wieners. Fetch stop trying to make them happen?
Speaker 1 (30:45):
Coming up next, maybe the weirdest takeaway from Game one
of the Western Conference Finals, and will preview Game two
give you our picks for tomorrow with the Celtics and
the Pacers. Keep it right here again weird. It's weird,
but it's the big takeaway, Jason and Mike.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
You listening to Fox.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. Now, before we get into final thoughts
from Game one of the Western Conference Finals, our picks
for Game two of the Eastern Conference Finals. You know, yes,
Dodgers have lost too in a row now to Arizona.
But when you're thirty three and nineteen and you're leading
the West by seven games, you can still have a
(31:29):
little bit of fun. During the game Tonight's win by
the Diamondbacks, Dodgers were down four nothing, six nothing, wind
up getting shut out. But here's a joke the Dodgers
played on show Hey Otani, where they convinced him he
was being pinch.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Hit for in the game by Miguel Rojas.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
Rohas tells Otani, I'm going up to hit, and the
look on O'tani's face is priceless.
Speaker 4 (31:53):
Take a listen.
Speaker 7 (31:54):
A reliever came in a left he came in four
Otani and during the pitch seems change. Miguel Rohause put
his helmet on and with a straight face, walked up
the steps and they'd left the show. Hey no, yeah,
we're gonna hit for you and we get the platoon advantage.
Here still doesn't know they're kidding.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
Three fifty five, you're gonna hit for me? What the
hell are you talking at?
Speaker 5 (32:21):
Hitting people with his bat?
Speaker 4 (32:23):
Yeah, I mean he might have gone a little. I
mean because earlier today wrote out a check for seven
point eighty five million to buy a house from Adam Carolla.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
Oh I can't. I just can't get over that. I'm
leading good, I'm the leading hitter in all of baseball.
You're going to bat for me?
Speaker 4 (32:42):
I mean, it's it's straight out of the Simpsons.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
Keeping it loose, Yes, Jowder, you will congratulate yourself on
a good day.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
I'm playing the percentages, Homas Simpson.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
Get a bet, Skip, I've hit nine home runs today
as well.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
Consider yourself hit the day well done? Uh so, Yeah,
fun moment there for Otani. The look on his face
when walking is just like, are you guys, you're serious
about this? You are serious about hunting yesterday, I'm off
of this team. I'm going back to the Angels. They
(33:18):
never pitched it for me. There, not gonna worry about
this anymore. So again, great moment there, I really really,
I tell you what. See the look on Otani's face
is just, oh my goodness. Uh Now, weirdest takeaway of
Game one of the Western Conference Finals. Usually defense and
(33:38):
a defensive effort is consistent. Sometimes another team can find
a way around it to a point, but you still
see it on the.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
Court, and it's weird tonight.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
And it's been weird to see in the playoffs that
as good as Minnesota is defense, to look at the
best defensive team in the NBA, and you know Dallas
is really good too, but Minnesota is the best.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
It was on this blay and it was dominant half
the time against the Nuggets.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
Half the time. I say to myself, are they just
not trying?
Speaker 4 (34:06):
Like?
Speaker 1 (34:06):
How is Jamal Murray running up and down the floor
with the ball, But yet last game there were two
guys on him everywhere.
Speaker 4 (34:12):
He could go right, how is this happening? And tonight
was the same thing.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
Watch the game tonight, I'm like, okay, yeah, they're feeling
out the first half seeing what Luca and Kyrie are like, Okay, well,
but it was the same thing in the second half
and Luca's being single guarded, He's hitting those fifteen foot
step back jumpers, and I'm like, what kind of defensive
effort are they giving tonight? It's almost like they're you know,
they're inconsistent with the effort they're giving defensively. And to
(34:38):
hear Anthony Edwards MONSI played the sound bite a few
minutes ago, it all makes sense. He's a wasn't there tonight?
We were flat. I don't know what it was.
Speaker 4 (34:45):
And I get it.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
A lot of times when you don't score, if you
don't have a night where the ball goes in the
rim and you just can't.
Speaker 4 (34:50):
Figure something out, I get it.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
But boy, defensively, that effort should always be there, and
it's been I don't want to say regular intervals, but
you know, two out of every five games with the Timberwolves,
it's not been there in the playoffs, and that's a
really hard thing to see.
Speaker 4 (35:04):
Buddy, It's much like we've talked about the Celtics in
their home efforts. Right, sometimes you're just like, well, what
are we getting? Don't know, I'm gonna chuck up a
bunch of threes that was uncharacteristic for the t Wolves, right,
forty nine sixteen point three or whatever. It was more
per than they averaged in the regular season, and they
(35:24):
get obliterated and points in the paint. A bunch of
guys run around that are six nine with seven to
five wins wingspan, and they're getting dominated in the post.
And I like, like PJ Washington only one shot in
the fourth and he hit it that corner three. But
Gaffer and the additions that they made are great. But
you know, getting away from who you are. And that's
(35:47):
the thing is you watch the tape going why are
we got forty nine threes? What are we doing?
Speaker 7 (35:53):
It?
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Really, it's just it shocks me sometimes when they see it,
and I go, really, that's the effort.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
Really, that's that's okay, all right, man, It stuns me,
But that's what we got.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
Yes, let's look ahead to Game two Eastern Conference Finals
tomorrow night. Game two in Boston, Celtics and the Pacers.
I get everybody loves the Pacers after Game one. Look
they gave they almost gave it away, but look how
well they played. Yeah, I don't know that. That's not
the game they needed to win to stay in this series.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
I will give the.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
Celtics with chances to adjust to Pascal Siakam, who is
the one wild card that hadn't played the Pacers with
him until Game one, I'm gonna give you the Celtics
adjust and they win tomorrow by double digits.
Speaker 4 (36:34):
They take a two games and none lead going back
to Indiana Celtics minus eight and a half. I'll take it.
I did get an answer from our guy Todd Ferman
about the odds when they were up three down the stretch.
He would have said, it would have been like seven
and a half to one. Oh wow, you would have
got Oh that would that the Celtics would pull that off.
But looking at it, you know, the Celtics did everything wrong.
(36:57):
I know the Pacers turned the ball over uncharacteristically, but
I think they had their that was their chance, and
they blew it.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Yeah, that's that's the game where it's like, that's the
one you kind of had to have and that's gonna
be the one you wind up saying, oh man, that's
that's the one that's gonna be the biggest one of
the series.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Uh exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon
coming up next, my buddy Ben Mallow.
