on Game one of the Western Conference Finals Dallas and

(00:51):
Minnesota coming up in about twenty minutes. I am going
to give credit to a guy I never thought i'd
be giving credit to at this point in the playoffs
in the NBA ever, So yeah, that'll be fun. But
before we get to the big NFL story right now,
don't count the fever out yet. Caitlin Clark and Indiana

(01:11):
down to the storm right now with twelve and a
half seconds left to go, eighty four point eighty one.
It was a horrendous beginning for Caitlyn Clark. She was
oh for the first quarter. We talked about struggles playing
a lot of basketball. She's in the midst of a
stretch where the Fever gonna play seven games in eleven days,
which is just stupid. But fast forward to the end

(01:32):
of the game. Who's the high score for Indiana, Who's
hit a couple of threes? Who just scored five points
in the last two minutes to make this a game?

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Caitlin Clark with a.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Game high nineteen for Indiana, six out of sixteen from
the floor. Again, twelve and a half seconds left to go,
Fever could potentially potentially tie.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
This game and send it to overtime. Crazy how this works? Right?

Speaker 4 (01:56):
You know you need some more excitement. Didn't get enough
from your end? MEA, why don't we add on? So
folks have to watch the final minutes as we get
deeper into the night. But Caitlin Clark coming up big
down the stretch here, maybe getting that elusive victory here?

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Yeah, foul taking a three made all three for this
This is part of what it is trying to Garter
made all three free throws, made a big runner to tie,
to bring it within a two point game with about
a minute left to go, and again.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Now twelve and a half seconds left to go, the.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Fever maybe maybe maybe about to tie this game. And
I say may because you know, the only thing about
the Fever that you worry about is that they stink.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
So maybe maybe they tie this game.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
You know, it would be great if I really had
an idea of how I could watch the final minute
of this go ahead. Well, just saying it would be fantastic.
It was easily accessible to my viewing power.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Like if like, if you're TNT, like like and you're
the WNBA, don't you say, hey, after you guys, do
your post game, right, dude, do your post game and
beyond the air for a while, can.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
We throw to the end of this game. Let's cant
get out? Okay? Can we pick it up live right here?

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Can you guys and then you guys break it down
after and talk about Caitlin Clark.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Can we do that a little bit? Just throw to
this game.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
We'll take the broadcast, We'll take the WNBA broadcasters, we'll
put that. I mean, you couldn't do that, you could?
I mean I got a feeling now, I mean, I
know that's kind of a Maverick revolutionary idea, but if
it's a WNBA, why wouldn't you try something like that?

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Hey, you want to take our game national?

Speaker 1 (03:26):
I mean, I know everybody, we want people to get
the WNBA app.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
But hey, if there's time, can you go to this?
Can we figure out away?

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Can I give you the the satellite coordinates so you
can be able to air this game?

Speaker 3 (03:37):
I think we could. I think we could figure that out.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
It seems like you've got the NBA contract for now.
The WNBA is funded by the NBA. Seems like some
transit in properties perhaps, But I can tell you I
found it. I found it, Go buddy, all right, WNBA
Twitter me and ye hundred thousand of my closest friends.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Right.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Oh, it's that person streaming it? Is that what it is?

Speaker 3 (04:02):
No?

Speaker 4 (04:02):
No, No, it's actually on their official No, they did not
have someone like like this the early exhibition games. No.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Oh, okay, I thought it was like that one woman,
the one woman at the at the Chicago game for Angel.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
The Sky preseason.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
No, No, this one's a legitimate feed from the w
NBA three.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Because because you're right, because I got it right here,
and it's a three point game eleven seconds left too.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
That's kind of fun, hey, watching the game? Make it
that easy? All right? Then? All right, then I kind
of dig it.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Took a little bit of searching, but kind why not
Caitlin Clark will be at the free throw line. She
was fouled on the inbounds before she could get a
three pointer off.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Sepickly she went into shooting mode though, Yeah, but see
what happens.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
Hey, hey, hey, Indiana pace theer's see what happens when
you're up three with.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Just a few seconds left.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
You don't let somebody shoot a three and you put
her on the free throw line?

Speaker 3 (04:53):
You see, that's the they did that. See what Seattle
story did there?

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Are you really trying to do a play by play
off the game cast?

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Just saying what's happening? I'm just saying what's up? We're
auditioning for a broadcast. I'm watching on Twitter, man, just
getting you can see myself out.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Hey, Hey, I am not watching television. I'm watching this
on Twitter. I'm I'm I'm watching it on Twitter now
it's it's that's what that was yesterday's game. This is
the game against South Carolina in the National Championship.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
What's going on here in rewind so we'll.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Bring you the update on this again. Caitlyn Clark the
free throw line going to be a one point game
if she makes the free throw, which she does. Uh so,
now one point game, eleven seconds left time out on
the floor. There will be more fouling and more threes
attempted by the Indiana fever.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Did you see her get clocked in the face before
no call? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I Hey that
welcome to the NBA stuff. I get right, that's how
it goes, right, But like you know.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
The reference callrook get referees calling the touch fowls like
that's like really really that's me.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
That's welcome to w h Now.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Finally, today we saw for the first time the Chiefs
talk about Harrison Butker's statements that he made at college
graduation a week ago that that's got wildfire everywhere where.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
He insinuated that women should be home and be in the.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Kitchen or I'm sorry, was that The Chargers reveal schedule reveal.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
I think it was the charge schedule.

Speaker 4 (06:18):
It was more of the well the chargers took their
shot at him, and then I think some of it
was the interpretation of that particular part. I think there
were a lot of other things that really probably should
have gotten.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
More more conversation.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
Look, us one was kind of innocuous in the grand scheme,
but it's not become a battle cry.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Yeah, look on top.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Of the warning about about the dangerous things that are
happening in religion, which is like, wait, what.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
And anyway religion, COVID government you want to.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Take over there? Like like I said, this was like
a speech. This is like, this was not a graduation
speech that you give. This was a speech you.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Give if you have ro No, no, no, Aaron Rodgers.
No no, no, no, that's not what.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Er No, No, this is the Aaron Rodgers speech. Is that, Hey,
the kitchen that you're in is not real. None of
this is real. We're all in the matrix. All of
this is not really happening. I didn't really tear my
achilles last year. I was on Earth seven forty five
the entire time. People don't even know that. No, that's
the conversation for Rogers. But for the first time we

(07:22):
had the chief's answer about their opinions for Harrison Butker.
We had Patrick Mahomes talk about it and say, listen,
I go by the teammate the guy is, and I
don't agree with particularly everything he says, but I go
by the teammate he's been and who he is here
for the last seven years. And then Andy Reid was
asked about the opinion, a more pointed question, and here's

(07:45):
Andy Reid's response about what he said or hasn't said
to the chiefs after Butcker's comments with some of the
women just.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
Fun staff here and in the building, give I mean
his comments kind of touched on one that you work
for something, what do you tell them if they come
to you with a concern about previous.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Yeah, that hasn't happened.

Speaker 4 (08:03):
I don't think you're speaking bill to women that as opinions,
and we all respect that. I let you guys in
this room, and you have a lot of opinions that
I don't like.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Oh, I didn't know was Andy Reid's call to let
people in. I thought that was an NFL thing. Andy
Reid decides what reporters get in.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
I don't know, we've had people excise people from their
room saying you're out of here. Yeah, you don't subscribe
to my podcast, so beat it. I mean, come on,
we've had a lot of stuff. Here's some nuggies and
listen to my podcast.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
But there's two takeaways from this, right, There's one thing
I would have really liked to see in. One thing
that it would have been smart to see is that
you know we've talked about Harrison Bucker. Was this something
that you that you kick him off the team for you? No,
this is a guy giving his opinion. And the main
thing with when stuff like this happens is that people
like freedom of speech, but they don't like freedom, but

(08:57):
they also want freedom from responsibility, which is what people
have to say. In response to that, Right, Harrison Bucker
said them things that were wildly unpopular, stuff that that
I can't believe. He said that. I'm like, why are
you talking about the president? Why are you talking about
dangerous parts of religion? What the hell is wrong with you?

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Man?

Speaker 4 (09:13):
Like, what do you do with an a Catholic school?
He ta, he has had kindred spirits and that's what
he spoke to.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
Yeah, but it's but wow, man, I mean, that's where
you want to go to. That's a this is a
day that college kids are graduating about, right. So what
I would have liked to see because hey, we talk
about freedom of speech and how hey he can say
what he says. I really would have liked some of
the chiefs and ed Patrick Mahomes disagrees with stuff, and
Andy Reid disagrees. I would have liked to see somebody
one of them say, hey, I disagree with what he said.

(09:42):
Women should be able to do whatever they want to
do in the world, or you know, I don't don't.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
I don't think this is the place to.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
Talk about religion or when you want to take on
politically when you're doing that, I really because that's because
that's okay, right, You're okay to give your opinion. It's
okay to say you disagree with Harrison Bucker and say
why right that That's the thing that I would have
liked to see, because I'd like to see the other
side of it, because now the smart thing would be
to do something like that, because you know why, because

(10:09):
that takes the temperature of this whole thing down, right.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Instead, the chiefs.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
And we told you what the Chiefs organization is like
they want to put their head in the sand when
anything controversial comes up, and it's just as long as
you can play, you can play for us. Right they
take the NFL back twenty five years, Tyreek Hill or
she Rice, doesn't matter, no suspensions, no nothing, whatever happens,
you play for us. But if Andy Reid said, look,
I just want to tell you I want, you know,
I want my wife to be able to do whatever

(10:34):
she wants to do.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
I want my relev I want I want.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
That to happen. That's the way things should be in
this world. If you give the other side of it
and say, listen, we're not you know, denying that this
is a controversial thing that he said.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
What that does is that takes.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
The temperature down across the board because instead of having
all kinds of petitions out there, for for let's get
rid of Harrison Butker and this being a story. Okay,
people understand, all right, he had his opinion and Reid
said this, or Patrick Mahomes said this, or somebody else
said this, Now, okay, is it really that big a deal?
Can we move on from this? But instead, because the
Chiefs to say we don't want to talk about it

(11:08):
at all. No, clearly, Harrison Butker has no problem. So
I think giving the other side of it, I think
that helps. Right, that's what we see all the time. Now,
nothing it's about politics. But when something happens for one
side of the aisle, the other side of the aisle
has a response, right, and it's important that we have
those checks and balances that whether you agree or disagree
with either side, Hey, this side has this to say, Okay,

(11:29):
that takes the temperature down, no matter what, it takes
the temperature down.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
And that could have been a really good thing today.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
But instead read mahomes All said, yeah, I really don't
want to get into it. No, I think you can
get into it. I think you can help the situation
out a little bit because all this does is just
let it fester. And oh boy, here's Butker and now
what's going on with the team. What's happening here?

Speaker 3 (11:48):
What's the deal is he? Here? Is he having trouble
with his teammates?

Speaker 1 (11:51):
Just a little bit of acknowledging, Hey, I disagree, and
here's what I think about it. That would have been
a really smart thing to take this controversy. Go Okay, now,
it was at a really high boil. Now it can
get down to a simmer and we can get onto
football at some point after.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
Yeah, I mean you and I have disagreed on this,
and we can go back in the You can check
the audio tape in our podcast wherever you find audio
and download it, give it five stars and tell me
you love.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Me or hate me.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
I can take it at Swollen Dome with the rice thing, right,
I mean, the second part of that's now done, right,
I asked, don't don't press charges?

Speaker 3 (12:27):
Right?

Speaker 4 (12:28):
Is the guys even though he might have gotten rope
A dooped and into hey, come back here and gotten
punched and all that seems like that one's gonna go away.
And you know, again we disagreed on that. With the
Butcker thing, I don't know whether there's a win if
they were to go and call them out. Does that
become a bigger thing in the locker room if it

(12:50):
goes further? I mean all it did, really, I mean
it because they spoke today folks that didn't get to
chime in last week, whether they were on vacation or
on and off day or whatever. It got a little
bit of run from there, right, because you had the
headlines of this guy, that guy, the other guy or
a woman said blank you to Harrison Butker again, you know,

(13:11):
just one more time with emphasis. I guess you know
if you're Ma Hoomes and and Andy Reid, you know
Reid gets a little snarky with the reporters, but to
the point of we've got a locker room with guys
that have differing opinions on an awful lot of things.
And again the Butker, which whichever side you fall on,
like I I know it. I remember it from my family. Right,

(13:34):
my ex is a very powerful engineer. My family said
the PhD was nice. Now that you have kids, you're
going to stay home. Right point of contention, point of issue.
I can speak from it from firsthand experience. Alluded to
it last week. You know that that goes back to,
you know, depending on how you're brought up, that that

(13:55):
still you know exists and in this case said hey,
you can have successful careers, but let me tell you
about motherhood and then tried to sell motherhood.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Is how I read it.

Speaker 4 (14:05):
I understand if folks who are upset about it, but
for reading for my homes, I don't know how much
of a win it is if they go in and
they start to enumerate the different things that they disagree.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
With, it's it doesn't need to be something that okay, yeah,
it just hey, I understand, and this is what I think.
If you don't think, it's if you don't just if
you disagree with stuff, just say why, Like I said it,
why should they have down it? Calms the contract because
it's a huge controversy. It's all anybody wanted to talk
about today. You think they want to get back to

(14:36):
playing football. Of course they do, and Falty may disagree
and is assaulted. Can I talk now? If you're worried?
Can I finish my sentence? Andy Reid? As as you said,
quoting you, Andy Reid gets salty with the press.

Speaker 3 (14:49):
Why it's not their fault.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
I mean they're they're asking questions about this, But now
he's made a combative when and this is a story
that's now going to continue to fester where it could
have gone away. Because if you talk about something, literally,
if you talk about something, everybody everybody's okay about it.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
When you don't talk and you don't address it, stuff
festers when you don't.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
When you don't address any sort of situation in a room,
it gets out of control and it doesn't work. This
would have been an easy thing to just say, okay, here, okay,
guess what the chiefs talked about it the first day
they finished. They said what they said, We got the
opinions of Mahomes, We got the opinions of Andy Reid,
and said today we.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
Just got yeah, we don't want to talk about it.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
Oh okay, great, So now we really got no resolution
when we could have gotten a resolution.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
That's my point.

Speaker 4 (15:30):
All he said was, hey, he's been a good teammate,
he's good in the locker room. Right, We've got Mahomes
on file from the past saying they don't talk right.
I don't know if that owed into like they have
differing accounts on everything else. He didn't give us much
clarity there but that they don't seem to talk a
lot other than hey, go make this forty eight yard kick.

(15:51):
We need you right, And from a team perspective, you're
gonna disagree with guys and their lifestyles and about a
lot of different things.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
In this case, I.

Speaker 4 (16:00):
Don't I don't know that I agree that there would
have been a win, because at this point it's asked
and answered like are they going to keep bringing it up?

Speaker 3 (16:08):
What a man? If they do? It was asked, but
it wasn't.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
It was just asked and blown off like that's not
asked and answered that that's asked and blown off that.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
I think that's a little bit different.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
Well, in their minds, they've now answered the question, and
I got to guarantee you the next time they go
to a podium, if someone asks, it's gonna be that's
already been addressed.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Bill Belichick Lives.

Speaker 1 (16:29):

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Mike Harmon Hobo live from the tire Rag dot Com Studios.
We'll get back to Game one of the Western Conference
Finals in the seconds. But my goodness, what a thriller
for Caitlin Clark the fever all time high crowd in
Seattle of over eighteen thousand people to likely see Caitlyn

(18:07):
Clark play the fever with a chance to win the
game in the final eleven seconds. It was a slow start,
but she bounced back to score twenty one points. They're
down by one with about ten seconds left to go,
and Caitlyn Clark comes off the inbounds like it's gonna
be a Kobe catch and shoot, like one of those
We're in one motion. I'm gonna catch, turn and shoot

(18:30):
no matter how many people are on me. Except Caitlyn
Clark forgets the basketball, which is pretty important, doesn't grab
the ball, looks like it.

Speaker 3 (18:39):
She looks like stop. She looks like she takes her
eye off the ball a little bit.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
It's tough because I you know, like you, I turned
off TV and I'd watching it on Twitter, and it
looks like she took her eye off the ball a
little bit because she wanted to grab and square up
and see the hoop and she winds up losing the
handle on it goes to a jump ball situation. Seattle
wins the jump ball, they hit a free throw, and
they win the game eighty five eighty three.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
But wow, man, this was set up.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
I'm like Caitlin Clark's coming off of this going, I
am getting this turning and shooting it and I'm gonna
win this game. And she just gags it and turns
it over and the Fever fall to oh and five.
And it's like they're getting closer, though, Mike, and you know,
they're getting closer to win.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
They're getting at some point they'll win. They're getting there.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
They got games back to back now on Friday and Saturday,
but they're getting closer.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
Are you doing that whole Lakers against the Nuggets thing?

Speaker 3 (19:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (19:33):
Competitive sweep got one this year, they'll get.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
Two next year. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:37):
I mean this was a great inbound design and she
just forgot the ball with her as she went to spot. Yeah,
and then Boston has to take the forty eight foot
shot to try to win it. Yeah, but you know, yeah, closer,
but they go to win five.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
Now on the season.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
But I'll tell you this, you want, I'll give you
a sunny side for the fever.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
You wait, a sunnyside for the You ready for this?
What's happen? They executed a great way, No, no, no,
sudden almost there sunnyside for the fever. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
How good are they going to be next year? With
Caitlin Clark and Paige Beckers. I mean, oh and five
how good are they could have been?

Speaker 4 (20:15):
And Paige Beckers, Yeah, let's go.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
Just got to win the lottery again. That's all you need.
Another force.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
Uh yeah, boyow just uh crazy end though a man
two thousand plus following on a on a Twitter stream.
That's that's proof of concept to a degree. Right, Yeah,
it's gonna look.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
The thing The thing about her now, and we talked
about this at the beginning of the night tonight, is that, yes,
she's going to hit a downward up patch at some
point and it's probably coming soon because it's a lot
of basketball, right, this is you know, we talked about
it for Kyrill to get to Kyrie in a second.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
Uh, but I'm not I'm not postponing talking about No.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
I know you're pushing that off because the guy that
hated you, although its hate seemed to Wayne after that,
you know, Pop in first half.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
But we'll get to him in a moment.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
She you know, look, it's a lot of basketball. It's
the it's the time in your career where you're coming
off a long college basketball season that for her went
all the way to the national championship game, and then
a day and a half later she's drafted. A day
and a half after that, she's playing a first game.
This is a lot of basketball, right, You're talking about
forty some odd games, and now you got another forty games.
You do get a break from July to August because

(21:25):
of the Olympics, So that's why these games are so
pushed up against each other. But she's going to hit
the wall simply because it's a lot of basketball. And
now why it's gonna happen soon is they're starting the
season with seven games in eleven days. Like that, that's
that's unhurt. I'm like, nobody can keep that pace up.
But this is what the fever at. They have seven

(21:46):
games and eleven days. They play tonight, they play back
to back on Friday and Saturday, play the Sparks here
on Friday.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
They got back to back Friday Saturday.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
That's a lot of basketball, man, Like, you really want
your you really want your players to be playing at
a high level. And seven games and eleven days. I
think you'd figure out a way. Okay, we're gonna balance
that a little bit better. So it's not something like
it feels like every night.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
There's a game.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
Yeah, I think some of it is you're just trying
to capitalize on the no pun intended, the fever that
people have for the product and the expectations of what
this season was going to be with this rookie class
and all the hype that they brought in, all the
ticket sales, merchandising, these massive endorsement deals, right, Wilson deal

(22:27):
for Caitlin Clark. Now and again folks complain like, right,
you know, the all boats are being lifted here. Everybody's
getting a taste of something along the way. Look what
the city of Las Vegas did. Whether it's gonna end
up being legal or not, other cities can follow, assuming
that they're financially solvent and have a slush fund available.

(22:50):
But yeah, for now, it's stuff at times.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
Right, you can see the tired legs.

Speaker 4 (22:56):
You can see the jump shots not just of Herb
but everybody else in the league right now. Certainly the
rookies feel it to a degree, But you're looking at
a very aggressive schedule. This is the only game on
the schedule tonight. Yeah, in the w NBA. Yeah, which
I stop.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
I think the Knicks would be Let's see the Knicks
with with the players they have now or the fever
you think the thinkers think, well, Brnson's got a broken hand,
so okay, Josh hart probably wouldn't play, so.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
You know those guys would be out.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
It'd be Hartenstein and Ana Nobi won't play, so Hartenstein
and Alec Burks Kayla, it'd be close. Man eighty eighty three.
I'll go Knicks eighty five seventy eight and come on, Wins.
That's here.

Speaker 4 (23:41):
Are the Knicks going to be able to do the
crowdfunding thing like the city in Las Vegas did for
the Aces players?

Speaker 3 (23:48):
Keith Hartenstein as a member.

Speaker 4 (23:50):
Of the Knicks because otherwise he's getting the contract off
and it's going to be too big.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
No, no, no, they're just gonna I'll tell him you
it's onto. Whoever works with James Dolan just slipped the
paperwork into what he signs every day.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
He won't even know what he's signing.

Speaker 1 (24:01):
Oh wait, we gave Hartenstein forty five million dollars for
the next three years.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
Yeah, you signed that like three days ago. Sorry about that? Yeah,
I was signing what colors are going to be on
the sphere next?

Speaker 4 (24:12):
The Stranger Things stayed yesterday was scary as hell, by
the way, I would have been terrified.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
Think about it.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
If you're higher drunk in Vegas and you look out
the window and you see that thing, you start calling
after in Vegas, Like I just say it, like you
probably got a lot of phone calls and text messages
making amends for wrongs that they'd done while in the
City of Sin.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
I'll tell you.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
You know, we were joking around about the eighth wonder
of the world last week being the nembar three against
the Nicks in Game three. Uh No, the sphere is
absolute eighth wonder.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
Of the world. It is is unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
It's I can't I can't say enough what that experience is. Like,
I think about it all the time and think about
some of the stuff that we saw in there and
the AI robots that we got to talk to in
the show to see.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
It really is amazing. I I can't say enough about it.

Speaker 4 (25:01):
I can't wait till they get something after the Dead
or Gone always.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
About having a grateful dead little debt or if anybody
else Fisher was playing a few weeks ago.

Speaker 4 (25:12):
Yeah, I wouldn't walking across the street to see them
either you could have done.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
I mean that, hey, it made a very literal sense. Okay,
not my not my bag as it were.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
Now I need to say this because I don't want
you to think that I was postponing it. I am
completely surprised, and I have to give flowers to Kyrie Irving.
I never thought in a million years beginning of the
season we'd be talking about him in the effort he's
having in the Western Conference Finals. First of all, I
can't believe he made it the entire season and there

(25:49):
was no controversy. It was just basketball, Like at some
point he's going to say something or do something. No,
it's just basketball for him in Dallas. Dallas plays really well.
We talked to Mark Stole about the moves they made
it the deadline that kind of reinvented the team a
little bit. And he comes into the game tonight taking
personally either me saying he's hit the wall and is

(26:09):
not gonna and because he looked bad in the last
round of the playoffs, taking that personally, taking Anthony Edwards
claim that I'd want to defend you in the Western
Conference Finals, taking that personally on his way to thirty points.
But he was the guy that carried the Mavericks offense
through the first three quarters before Luca took over in
the fourth.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
Right.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
I mean you'd say, yes, Luke got a game high
thirty three, and he was brilliant in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
He really was.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
But Kyrie Irving tonight carried that team for threequol. I
didn't think he had enough. I didn't think he had
enough of that. And not only that, he's phenomenal on
the defensive end. And Anthony Edwards has a horrendous game.
I never thought I'd have to say this, but Wow,
what a game by Kyrie Irving. And maybe he's got
a little bit left. And I didn't think they could
win more than one game. Well, they already won one

(26:58):
and Kyrie Irving was the reason won this game. And
I can't believe I'm saying that.

Speaker 4 (27:02):
Yeah, I had the tea wolves and six as we
talked about yesterday, but boy, this game really makes you
rethink some of these some of these structures. I know
it's only one game, but hey, this guy is falling
in the show is now. Kyrie Irving took your comments
and those of young Anthony Edwards personally, and he came
out and he cooked in the first half, and he
was fantastic defensively. And you know, talking to Mark Stein

(27:25):
a little earlier in the show, Jason, I mean, as
we've talked to him in the last few weeks, and
certainly the ratings and everything, the net ratings and all
that fun stuff born out like they've committed to playing defense.
And that's certainly something for Kyrie. Oftentimes cited as the
most talented basketball player, and you start getting into those
kind of arguments along the way, smartest, bad, whatever term

(27:49):
you want to use there. But he had a magnificent
first half and a lot of it was taking taking
it to the rim and slow response, slow rotation by
tea Wolves front line that had heretofore been a force.
And here was Kyrie irving, answering the bell and trying

(28:10):
to feel it out. Saw some of his postgame interview,
he and Luca trying to feel it out and get
their rhythm, get comfortable. He got in early, and then
as you said, Luca, fifteen fourth quarter points to get there,
which really saved them because Kyrie was zero for six.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
Yeah, like I said, three quarters, he said, okay, guy,
I got nothing left. Now you got okay? I got
it now, I got I've expended all my hate for
Smith at this point.

Speaker 3 (28:33):
I got it. It's okay, I got it.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carbon live from
the tirec dot Com studios. So again as Mike reference
a few seconds ago, and Mante said, thanks, so we
can watch a game on Twitter, Like, I wonder how
many people jump to Twitter to watch it? Because again,
you had two hundred thousand people watching Caitlin Clark and
the Fever in the Storm on Twitter at twelve am

(28:58):
on the East Coast. You had two hundred thousand people
watching a game at midnight right on the East Coast,
watching people watch watching it just your NBA game at midnight.
I mean that's like, that's like just what people, That's
like just I don't know that Aaron Rodgers gets that
for a podcast.

Speaker 4 (29:14):
To look at you, Hey, you know what, I found
a team that almost it was like they were listening
to our show tonight because they added a special to
their menu for this week. No Okay churo Poutine, Oo,
rocket City trash pandas double A for the Angels down
in Alabama.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
That's gonna be a tough commute though. For for that,
I got to see.

Speaker 4 (29:39):
If they can they want to have us out to
throw out a first pitch and eat a bunch of boutine.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
Not if they're preparing that crap and really dumping sugar
in the gravy. Yeah, didn't you watch them frosted sugar? Sugar.
Sugar is the greatest thing in the show. Person, Jerry
Seinfeld is gonna thank for watching.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
I watched it, okay, two people.

Speaker 4 (30:06):
I thought it was bloated with the number of cameos
that that didn't pay off for me.

Speaker 3 (30:10):
Why are they so mad? It's only advertising?

Speaker 4 (30:13):
Great?

Speaker 3 (30:15):
You mean Grant?

Speaker 2 (30:16):
Yeah, yes he was.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
He was fantastic.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
I think he was playing the guy who's the voice
of the Gritch, right, he's a guy all over Disneyland
at the Launing Mansion and stuff.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
I think the is what Elizabeth Hurley calls him. Oh
too soon. They've only been broken up for about thirty years.

Speaker 4 (30:33):
Now, let's all think about Elizabeth Hurley for a second,
shall we?

Speaker 3 (30:36):
Uh No?

Speaker 1 (30:37):
I think that was my favorite line was when they
did the mad Men rip off and and John Hamm
and John Slattery are trying to tell Jerry Seinfeld how
to how to market pop tarts, He just goes.

Speaker 3 (30:46):
Why are they so angry at us? Advertising? Exit?

Speaker 1 (30:53):
Out about a Fresca exit swollen down. The Jason Smith
Show with my best reread my arbin live as we
always are from the Tirec dot com Studios. Coming up next. Yeah,
we'll get back into the NBA, but we got a
big NFL story coming your way. Get ready for twenty
twenty four to be the last season we see a
specific guy play quarterback for his team.

Speaker 3 (31:14):
And no, it's not Rogers and the Jets. It probably
It is, okay, probably, but that's not the story. It's
someone different. We'll get to that next ride here Jason
and Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific Fox Sports.

Speaker 1 (31:32):
Radio The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from
the Tirak dot Com Studios. We'll have more from the
night in the NBA coming up in a few minutes.
But get ready for this to be the last year.
From Matthew Stafford with the Rams. Sean McVeigh. Today was

(31:52):
asked about the status of Matthew Stafford's contract. Stafford's got
no guaranteed money after this year, and when McVeigh was
asked about it, he was very evasive and said, yeah,
I appreciate it, but we're going to keep that between us.
I appreciate that that Matthew Stafford is here and practicing,
and he's the same guy as ever, and he goes

(32:13):
on and blows it off. Stafford's unhappy about his contract.
The Rams clearly don't want to add more money to
it because why would you, Right, the guy's thirty six
years old, and the only reason he's here this year
is because he had an unexpectedly good year last year.
I don't think anybody expected the Rams or Stafford to

(32:34):
have the year he had last year.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
Is very surprising.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
He was hurt the year before he started out his career,
had injury issues and was pretty solid for a while.
But the guy's getting older now and you can see
that him staying on the field was becoming more and
more difficult.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
But he hits it quick right with it.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
Even though Cooper Cup was out, Pookinaku would turn into
a phenomenal weapon and one of the best receivers of
debuts we've seen into the NFL in quite some time.
And the Rams played really well, and Stafford played pretty
well like through for nearly four thousand yards and twenty
five touchdowns. It was a pretty good year. But the
Rams know we're not going to keep a guy around.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
You've seen it.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
They've let guys go early rather than hold on to
them for longer. They let Todd Gurley go, they let
other players go. They know this, and I know it
pains them because Stafford was a guy that they got
to come in and say, Okay, we have to get
rid of Jared Goff. We'll give you a draft to
give you everything, give us Matthew Stafford. Okay, Stafford wins
a super Bowl. Now it's a different story. The team

(33:33):
is kind of reinventing itself. They went from one of
the oldest teams in the league to one of the
youngest teams in the league. The fact they don't want
to talk about the money situation tells me this is
going to be it for Matthew Stafford, and they will
let him go early rather than give him a ton
of money and keep him late. The best case scenario
for him is if he has another year where he
is injury free, and he has a year even better

(33:56):
than last year. Maybe he goes for thirty touchdowns and
they'll still draft arter back to take his place. So
it's not like it's going to get him more than
a year. But if he has an unbelievable injury free
year where he's better than last year, I can see
him getting another year and the Rams say, okay, let's
bring it back for one more year, give you X amount.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
Of dollars, and that's how it's going to work. But
I don't see that happening.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
I mean, last year I think was the the the
death cry for Matthew Stafford. Hey look at this one
more really good year to remind you how good I
was for so long. But ages catching up to him,
and clearly the Rams want to move on, and I
don't expect to see him in Los Angeles as with
the Rams after this season.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
I think this is going to be it for him.

Speaker 4 (34:33):
Well, you got two years before the potential out right
in his contract, as you said, the guaranteed money for
this year. Dead cap for this year would have been
ninety six million dollars.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
Yeah, well, this wasn't happening for this year wasn't happening? Well?

Speaker 2 (34:46):
Next year is still forty seven.

Speaker 4 (34:48):
And I think what's interesting about it is you look
at their depth chart right now. Us you got Bennett
coming back, guy that was away from the team last year,
Extendson Bennett fourth round pick. I have no idea is
he gonna be around and ready to play?

Speaker 3 (35:05):
You know, where's his head? What's going on with him
off the field?

Speaker 4 (35:09):
Everything else? And then their third string guy. You want
to guess who that is. It's a guy named Dresser
winm That's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
I like that. That's better. He's from Tennessee Martin.

Speaker 4 (35:21):
Yeah, so they're in from Shepherd for a little while.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
Guarantee hang on.

Speaker 1 (35:29):
If Garoppolo, I mean, look, obviously you're not gonna count
Garoppola playing.

Speaker 3 (35:32):
More than like eight plays in a row.

Speaker 1 (35:34):
But at least they got a guy that if he
can play for a couple of weeks, it'll be all right.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
No, but I'm with you there.

Speaker 1 (35:39):
Their their next quarterback is not on the roster. It
would be something where after this year we go get it.
But what do the Rams do? The Rams don't bring
people along. The Rams say we need a quarterback let's
get a quarterback right now, So who do you want? No, No,
we're gonna go trade for somebody. We're gonna go bring
somebody in, and we are not gonna wait and hope
a guy in a couple of years gets good. No,
the Rams solve their problems immediately. So I don't think

(35:59):
that it's that big a deal who they have in
the roster now, because after this year, Okay, who's unhappy somewhere.

Speaker 3 (36:04):
Oh hey, let's go get Kirk Cousins because they.

Speaker 1 (36:06):
Want Michael Pennix to play in Atlanta or something else
like that will happen. We'll we get Justin Fields because
Pittsburgh doesn't want Tom Okay.

Speaker 3 (36:12):
We'll do something like that.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
So I don't I don't doubt for a second they're
gonna make a bold move to bring a guy in
whose quarterback ready to go play.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
But no, we're not on the roster right now.

Speaker 4 (36:20):
I think it really would be fun though, if all
of a sudden, Jimmy Garoppolo had to become the hero
again and Sean McVay is able to resurrect him into
a superstar. I mean that would be fun, right, and
all of a sudden, you know, he gets himself a
couple of year deal had thirty five million dollars. He
starts looking at the Baker Mayfield money.

Speaker 3 (36:40):
Look out good, I am, look out good. I am Hey,
Sean McVay fixed me. I went down in Tampa Bo.

Speaker 4 (36:47):
But yeah, it's it's a curiosity because last year they
weren't supposed to be good and they were.

Speaker 1 (36:54):
Yeah, And that's the big thing is they went from
one of the oldest teams to one of the youngest.
And that you don't sit around with a thirty six,
thirty seven year old quarterback when so okay want somebody
that's gonna grow with Pooka Nakua and who we have
out there. They want somebody they want to move on.
You can tell they kind of want to. And that's
why that's why I say it's going to happen, because

(37:14):
they see already, Hey, we don't want to talk about
adding more money pass this year because if they don't,
what if they're not gonna add money pass this year,
it means we don't want you after this year.

Speaker 3 (37:22):
So I think you got to see the writing on
the wall there a little bit. If you're Matthew Stafford,
Jimmy me me Exit Out about a Fresca exit Swelling Dome.

Speaker 1 (37:34):
