(00:51):
They have an empty net. They trail Edmonton three to one.
Edmonton Oilers could go up three games to two and
go home with a chance that head of the Stanley
Cup Final. Jerry Jones partying. Where is Connor McDavid Jersey
All around Dallas right now? At least there's one other
team's not going to the finals. And his name's not
the Dallas Cowboys. Come on, McDavid, let's go. Let's go,
(01:13):
David mcconnor, let's go. But I want to know.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
But the other way applied more pressure to him to
do something crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
It still might happen. You never know, Well it might happen.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Series isn't over, obviously, you know you gotta get to four.
But but certainly this this puts a damper on what
I thought could be a really big react.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Monday or Tuesday from Jerry.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Jones, right, and it extends the aggon he at least
another couple of days as to you know, the waiting
game that we have to play for his active desperation.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
He may be needing time that time you're getting into
fetch care man, what are you doing. I'm making Darren
Waller's song happen. Nobody can make it happen, dude, Come on, man,
are you kidding? It's fantastic. He fumbled the bag. It
gets yes, but it gets in your head. It doesn't. Man.
(02:07):
Then well, then in the video the girl stabs him
in the back and he dies, like whoa, that's an
that's a kind of a dark ending. It really is.
What happened.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Look, and I hope Darren Waller's getting you know, whatever
support he needs from his friend's teammates. Again when the
news I saw him trending is like, did he retire?
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Because that's been the rumor, right.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
He's actually unofficially been retired forever.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Well, yeah, the over under of how many games he's
gonna play.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
But yeah, he's been shown up to giants, to any
OTAs or like they show talking to them. I don't
think he's even talking to them right now.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
He's too busy releasing He's taking time terrible terrible music.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
He called Babele and Brian said, hey, Darren, worry man,
we need you, and he just presses play. Taking time.
He's contributing all him from lines from his songs. That's
how he's That's.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Now the line he uses for everything. It's no longer
the greatest American hero playing? Is that on your answering machine?
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Now? Believe it or no?
Speaker 3 (03:12):
You've updated it now with Darren Waller taking time not available?
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Why am I not available? Hit it? I'm taking time, sir.
This is a Wendy's Yes, taking time, he sir, would
you like to order taking time? He would never go
to Wendy's Double Bacon Cheeseburger. No, I go to Wendy's.
Let's be honest.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
I go to when it's like when it's like a
special occasion, right, I.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Mean like once a year, I think I go to like,
I mean, come on, I'm yeah, I.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Think it's my birthday, I go to Wendy's.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
No, I go like once a year to Wendy's. Man,
it's it's just not you.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
No, no, no, no, come on, like no, that's that's
his Red Lobster annual visit.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Come on, I gotta say, I'm not. I'm you know,
Wendy's is not like my go to, Like I'm gonna
go now, like once a year, I'll go to Wendy's.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
It's too fancy for you. What you're saying, Yeah, the.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Flavor Flave is trying to help Red Lobster get rejuvenated.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
It's too fa it's way too fancy for me. Bad
can't do it. Sorry, it's way too fancy. Wow. The
Frosty is an elevated art form.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
You just can't handle the violins. As soon as you
open the door as they start playing.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Tagging time for Frosty, taking time for frosty. Uh. Now
we have a week before the NBA Finals.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
Yeah, we do, right, And you know, and you know
because you know, because you know, because you know, because
you know, somehow Lebron James is going to have some
story leak that is going to gain the attention of
everybody in the NBA right somehow the next few some
story is gonna leak.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Sources Lebron xyz there's something. And then hey, Lebron knows,
I am gonna feed this. I am gonna feed this one.
So let's do this. Let's go. There's three possible things
that Lebron can do, just three, well, the three things
that I would say if you had to have a
multiple choice test of okay, what will Lebron do in
(05:07):
the next week to get attention? I think these are
your three answers. We'll go from least likely to most likely.
How does that sky right? Least likely? Mostly go with you,
So least likely, least least likely, least likely stories about
Bronny and he playing together somewhere, because I think that's
(05:28):
got to sit for a little bit. I think that
came out great, and I think once we get outside
of the finals, we get closer to the draft and
things happen and we get into all these things. But
I think this story needs to sit for a bit
because you have a lot of I'll have a lot
of questions about wait a minute, now, is the draft
going to be rigged to get Lebron and Bronny together?
So I think we hit a pretty big story this week.
(05:48):
Bronni is staying in the draft, and so I would
say that the whole thing about Lebron and Bronny playing together,
and I think that probably has to sit for a while.
So while that's on the metal stand, as you like
to say, I think that's the least likely of the
three choices.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Yeah, it's also an old story, right, there's no there's
no juice to it at this point.
Speaker 6 (06:09):
Right.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
It's been out.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
There for three years, I mean yeah, and then Lebron
you know, took out the uh DiCaprio size flamethrower when
he said, hey he could play for us now.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
My team stakes yeah here, like so, I just don't
think there's any juice to it.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
So that one, I don't I don't even know metal Stand.
I think that it's you know.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Well only because it's there. I mean, yes, they've been
they're still swirling. They've been firing warnings on this for
a while. But I can't see how oh sources lebron
I'd like to play with Bronni or Bronni, I'd like
to play with my I fail to see how that's
gonna suddenly grab big time attention. Oh, it's also been
tongues wagging.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Yeah, it's also been a half assed thing, you know,
the last month or so of trying to distance it. Well,
it's not top of mind, and certainly Bronni said all
the things, and that's the thing I hate and all
this process, as we've talked about all the way through.
I don't know the kid, but he gets all the
collateral damage, all the uh you know, stuff that's bouncing
off his old man at this point. And I don't
(07:13):
know that anybody's given a true evaluation of the player
that the man could become and who he is right now.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Yeah, So I while I say it's I think that's
probably the lowest probably I would say probably the lowest
of the three. Okay, the lowest of the three. Now
somewhat like we'll go so least likely, somewhat likely, and
then most likely, like when you get those those surveys.
How likely are you to recommend? Not likely at all,
somewhat likely, not likely. Don't understand the question, So we'll
(07:42):
go like that least so, least likely, somewhat likely, somewhat
likely they hire JJ Reddick as their head coach. But
I would say if you, if you put a gun
to my head, I would say probably after the Finals. Yeah,
because if he gets hired, I mean, I don't know
why we still a deal. Right, He's still working for ESPN,
(08:03):
and ESPN wants him to work the Finals. So he's
taking Doc Rivers place and there's a lot of you know,
cast team in February. So listen, you're getting you're getting ready.
You're not getting Doc unless Doc jj redd is a
Well it's a trade though.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
So JJ Reddick got the job and that opens up Doc.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Yeah, let's go. I don't have I don't have any
anything standing in the way. Don't you have a contract
with Milwaukee? No, Look, I'll rip it up right in
front of you. I'd love to come to the Lakers.
I'd love to coach Lebron. I'd love to be able
to blame him for not winning. Oh, be fat to
all the players. I've been able to blame for not
winning in my career. It's an All Star team, it's
an All NBA. I've been able to blame Lebron. I'd
love to blame Lebron. Let me have the job. Uh.
(08:46):
ESPN wants JJ Reddick to work the finals. It's a
big deal for them, right he's he's a big drawing
card for the NBA right now. And while I don't
see a problem, and I can't believe anybody thinks there
would be a problem if JJ Reddick accepted the head
coaching job with the Lakers and work the finals, you
saw that thrown out there. And I think ESPN at
(09:07):
this point is saying, we're not gonna do anything that's
gonna give us bad publicity for anything going on, specifically
the NBA Finals. We're not gonna take a chance it
Suddenly something is up and he says something on the
broadcast that something that can be misconstrued or could be tampering,
or could be Oh, look at this guy's a free
agent next year, and JJ Reddick sand it out grant
he's the guy's are good to the head coach of
the Lakers are gonna So I don't say, well, technically
(09:30):
it could happen. It could happen because the Lakers could
do it if they want to, and JJ Reddick certainly
would have a decision to make. And so with ESPN,
I think in the end this is gonna be something
that will happen, but it's announced after the finals. Like
I think this is a fine accompleye at this point
that Reddick's getting the job, but they're both gonna wait
until after the finals to officially announce it.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Yeah, there's still the curiosity as you had to round
out the staff, right because you did dismiss all of
the assistants as you got rid of Darvin Ham and
everything else. So that that's the curious part for me, right,
all the coaches who've had tenure as a as a
head coach, but certainly as top assistance around the league.
(10:12):
But yeah, I think it just as much as you'd
like it to be done. And it's the running joke
of how many days what kind of franchise blah blah blah,
and take your shots at the Lakers for it. I mean,
there's a lot of business practicalities that come through Reddicks.
They're star for a you know, ABC ESPN. You've got
(10:32):
a contract to finish out. It gives you that pro
high profile, Like, what are you gonna do? Pull him
back out? He's like, no, who's next, who's waiting in
the wings? If Reddick takes this job? Oh yeah for
the NBA Finals, right? Not hey, the playoffs are starting
and he's now taking a new job. No, it's hey,
we rolled rolled through the finals. But now this guy
(10:54):
that has become such a big point for us, you
know in our broad cast, what we've sold the advertisers
all of this said yeah, let's take him off and
he moves on and for the Lakers, I mean it
doesn't really matter at this point.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
No, it doesn't. So that leaves us with the most
likely story that we're gonna get for Lebron. This gets
the most tongues wagging, the most people talking about it.
How real is this? How real is it not? We
are going to get a story that will play somehow
like this. You'll read it on the on the internet
or on one of the websites like this. Sources strong
(11:33):
possibility Lebron James leaves the Lakers. Here's some potential destinations,
and we're gonna get like three or four teams that
potentially he could go to about Billy Jeweys ago. However,
real this is because I don't think it's just no
way he's leaving. But this is how he uses his
leverage to get what he wants, which is, hey, two
more years on my contract. You're you're gonna gonna draft
(11:55):
Brony if he's there, whatever it's going to be. This
is how he uses leverage. But you're gonna get that story.
It's gonna say, hey, strong chance Lebron James leaves Lakers
and here's three or four teams mentioned, and that's a
story for three or four days. What are the possibilities
for the Sixers? One are the possibilities for the Knicks?
One are the possibilities for the Suns. And that's gonna
be the story that leaks somehow that dominates the week
(12:17):
leading up to the NBA Finals. I got, I get,
I put my money. That's the one that's gonna be
out about Lebron has the best chance of making over
the next week.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
Well, because the other thing you could spin that kind
of goes one a off of that is you get
into the deep dive of the business that is Lebron
James right, the medium mogul, the Empire, all the different
tentacles that are out there in terms of endorsement, sponsorship,
partnership deals, everything else. So it's like, hey, Lebron doesn't
(12:48):
need to play for max dollars. So here's how either
the Lakers can assemble the super team or why you
know from he's playing for more.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
Than the.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
And this is where you start getting into your sixers
and all of these other things, or how the Lakers
are able to attract multiple stars to round out the
roster and potentially give him a shot to win one
more time. Like that's that's the thing, right, It's all
about the all right legacy play. What's the strongest for
the legacy play moving another place or you know, being
(13:25):
that guy because I've always argued it with Brady right
all those years that people are like, well he took
a lesson, moh blah blah blah, and everybody's all mad,
and look what it did to the quarterback market. Didn't
do a damn thing to the quarterback market. Everybody's agent said,
went in and the teams would say, hey, look at
what Brady does, and they win and then they all laughed,
(13:45):
said I don't have Giselle, and I ain't Brady pay
me my money.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
Same thing here.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
All superstars are not Lebron with you know, the billion
dollar net worth and the ability to snap your finger
for other things.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
To come together.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
So it's thinking that that's suddenly gonna cascade. If Lebron
does that, it's bad for business. Now with that he's
forty years old, he's made his money and all these
other guys, Luca's eligible for four hundred million dollars.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
For sure, it's a lot of cash man, a lot
of catch.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Lebron's saying I'm gonna take less ain't affecting the rest
of that.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
But you could see it. Hey, strong chance, Lebron leaves
and here are the teams, and that's a story for
three days. And that is a three day story. I
guarantee that's the one I put it. I put I
put everything on that one right there. Exit outbout of Fresca,

Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. You know, for a second, I thought
there was a new version of Darren Waller song that
kind of sounds like it.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
Oh, we talked about that.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Man, how much better is this than the other song?
How much how sad is that that this is a song?
Speaker 3 (15:51):
It sounded like, well, you know, inspiration takes many forms.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
There is only one man who can lift us TJ
past this wonder wall of Darren Waller trivia. He is
a longtime NFL insider. He is a Hall of very
Good voter. He has been putting very good players in
the Pro Football Hall of Fame for a long time.
You can follow him on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two.
That has at Jason Cole sixty two. It is j
(16:23):
Cole j Cole's happening.
Speaker 6 (16:24):
But I have put a wonder wall of players in
the Pro Football Hall of Fame, not not just very good,
a wonder wall of players.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
See, yes, I see what you did. I mean, is
there gonna be like a Is there gonna be like
a very good wing? At some point he puts so
many players in, like I think the very good players
need their own wing in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 6 (16:50):
Is that set of like the Broadcasters Hall of Fame?
Speaker 1 (16:52):
If they put you in exactly? Yes, Wait, here's the
very good players right here. Oh okay, I mean they're
not these guys, but they're the very good players. Is
there actually a Broadcaster Hall of Fame somewhere?
Speaker 6 (17:04):
This actually is There's a Broadcasters Hall of Fame somewhere
in some little town in North Carolina. It's just like Salisbury,
North Carolina. And I know I only know this because
my first wife, not that. Yeah, I've had more than one,
I mean three, but yeah, really didn't know that. I
(17:26):
had more margaritas last week than I had wives, which
is a good thing. But yeah, I have more, Okay,
but the only my first wife, her brother lived in
North Carolina, and we would have to pass by the
cut off for Souithburry And they have a little marker
(17:47):
for the National Broadcasting Hall of Fame and so like
they do actually have a it's a big deal, you know,
like Costas has been there and some of the other
big wigs and stuff like that. So yeah, not that
you guys will be there. I mean, at least she's
not Armaget shot.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Okay, that's good, that's all right. No, no, that it's
the whole.
Speaker 6 (18:09):
It's the whole Jeff Mets thing down. Hey, listen, dragging
you down and let go let's go next. Let's go next, guy.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
Listen, listen, listen, listen. Liz Taylor, I just want to
say to have you on the show.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
Let me just say, let me just say, could you
cut any more players from the Mets. That a like,
just did you just wholesale the entire Prick Francise down?
We can put no gone, Christian Scott gone, Narvaiah's gone?
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Who else?
Speaker 6 (18:41):
Who else did they let go of?
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Okay, Christian Scott is only down because they're there there,
he's they're limiting his pitch count. We're going, we're gonna
get to unleash the Mets on an entire new continent.
Next week when we go play in London, they're gonna.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
Go, that's that's exporting the Jaguars in years past.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
You Jackets, Why the hell would you bring me team over?
You brought the Mets over? Come on man in London,
they're going. I thought we were getting Yeah, I thought, oh,
there's two teams. I thought we just said New York
and they brought some Mets. I thought we're getting, Oh
we next time?
Speaker 6 (19:12):
Are were getting that Aaron Judge Fellow, We're not. Oh
we got that guy named Panda. Oh yeah, what's what's
a metropolitan?
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Can you know what's a metropulletan? What does that mean?
In all seriousness? Off of that?
Speaker 3 (19:26):
You know, because we are exporting the Mets. Jacole does
the London mayor get to have a Super Bowl?
Speaker 6 (19:33):
Does the London mayor get to have a Super Bowl?
Speaker 7 (19:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (19:37):
Two years ago I would have said this is just
too far fetched. I think the only thing that holds
it up is is the time element. You know, what
time are you starting that game in London? And London's
at end. It is a little complicated, but I think
they would probably be willing to put up with it.
It's you know, is London willing to pay for it? Right?
(19:59):
Are they going to?
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Hey?
Speaker 6 (20:01):
The two or three billion dollars that all that all
cost to get the owners to agree to put a
Super Bowl overseas and if you can get them to
pay enough money. The NFL owners have proven time and
time again. Money talks. I mean, you know that that's
that's all that really matters. I mean, Jerry Jones, imagine
(20:24):
Jerry Jones frolicking around London.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
I'll tell you I went to I thought I was
having a conversation with Tom Cruise. Turns out I was
at that wax museum. Why is the guy so quiet
that's talking to me at all?
Speaker 6 (20:38):
Well it was a hell of a conversation, actually, he
just he was He was a strong but silent type
as I as I talked my way through, but I
think he was amenable many my ideas about his next
movie and whether he could, like he could like chickens
(20:58):
up out of the plane, him down and somehow get
through our roof of our stadium and land on the
field and not, you know not. I think that'd be
a great say.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
Hey lord, So listen now, I'll ask again. I'll borrow
from my Carmen. I'll ask this for my uh from
my partner here. So the last couple of days, we've
heard that Caleb Williams struggling incredibly at OTAs and may
not be great, or he has shown so much improvement
over the last twenty four hours. Maybe now he's great.
(21:33):
Like like, which is he? Is he great? Or is
he a bust? We have to know.
Speaker 6 (21:38):
Oh, I'm going he's a bust. He's one of the
worst players in history. That was the game take a
number one. I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
Wait, I gotta tweet that out there, Jason, get that
out there. Caleb Williams will be one of the worst
players in.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
The history with that little guy fire emojis, hold me
to that.
Speaker 6 (21:54):
Thank you. That's great. That's that's not great. Uh, yeah,
that's it's an ot A like nobody's hitting anybody. Yeah,
like nobody's nobody's making contact with anybody, Like nothing's actually happening.
And Caleb Williams is brilliant if anybody's actually ever seen him.
(22:15):
Play is about, you know, like evading the rush and
doing these things that you know, extend plays and make
things happen. And so if you're not actually hitting each other,
like what does it matter? Like I look, I think
that there are things about Caleb Williams that if I
(22:36):
was coaching him, and boy, it's a loud here all
of a sudden.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
Dude, where the hell.
Speaker 6 (22:42):
I am at the San Jose Municipal say, watching the
presdo Brizzlies against the San Jose Giants in a single like.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Dead well just think next.
Speaker 6 (22:58):
Yeah, well the yeah, the Tink Circus could come through
Santos day anytime, and then they probably wouldn't still out
this place. It's I just got to say that with
Caleb Williams, and this is an amazing thing that I
can remain in this focus. Is I think that it's
going to take a coach that's got an amazing amount
(23:20):
of discipline, right, And but it's going to have to
discipline him and tell him to keep things under control
while also having him play full time right like you
got you gotta have him out there because he's the show.
This is not the same thing as when Patrick Mahomes,
(23:41):
you know, people didn't really know who he was, goes
what was it, number ten, number twelve, I'm trying to
remember what number he went overall, but he goes number
ten and they can ship him for an entire entire year,
and Andy Reid can say, look, you're a phenomenal talent. You
can do anything on the field, but you have to
(24:02):
learn these rules in order to play in my offense first.
Because Andy's really diligent about that. If you talk to
guys who played quarterbacks for Andy Reid, they say, like,
you have to follow specified norms and everything. And Michael
Vick talked about it a lot when he had his steps.
Heres is like there was a learning process in this
whole thing where you had to know where you were
(24:25):
on every single step and know where you were in
relation to where your receivers were supposed to be. So
if you were in two or your three steps or
your five steps, where are you landing and therefore where
does the ball have to go? Like it's really really
technical stuff and really that I think the Bears have
(24:46):
to do the exact same thing with Caleb Williams. It'd
be really incredibly exacting. But I don't know that they have,
like they don't have the ability to just sit in
and say, look, you just watch because if they hit him,
we're going to have this kind of in chip and
talk like oh he's a butt. Yeah, how about he
(25:07):
just needs how about he just needs to learn how
to play this game, because this game is not the
same as where you play basically seven on seven ball
at UNC, you know, in a in a PAC twelve
conference that has basically I just had a foul ball
hit right out did yeah, went it went and bounced off.
(25:30):
I'm willing the kids go getting because I can't move
that that thing.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
They shut up so they can concentrate on the game. Hey,
you're basic loud noise talking about football in the fans.
Speaker 6 (25:40):
Oy but so yeah, but I'm off from the picnic area.
It's that full quatter over there. So anyways, I just
I got to say that the Bears are trapped in
this really bad position of having to play him all
the time. Otherwise you have to battle against this kind
of jabberwalkee about whether he's a bus or not. And
(26:03):
they're going to fear that. And they also have this
touching staff that's on eggshells because look are they going
to survive this if the guy's not very good? You know,
you were flucent his guys, like I would have hoped
that George McCaskey would have the judgment to say, look,
the first couple of years haven't been very good, but
we're going to keep you guys around now that we
(26:25):
have a new quarterback, because we want to have some
consistency and how we train our quarterback. But that will
require advanced thinking by George McCaskey.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
Bear's Joe all right? Well along that vein.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
I mean, in the OTAs we keep trying to find
the good jokes, and it gets us back to our guy,
Jerry Jones. What about Trey Lance and his mastery of
the Cowboys offense?
Speaker 6 (26:51):
There's just your genius. There's nothing speaking of being technically sound.
Nothing says technically sound like Trey Lamb quarterback. I just
feel bad for the kid because he just missed so
much time. And I mean, and he was such a
bad miss by Kyle Shanahan because Kyle, like like so
(27:16):
many coaches, fell into the trap of oh, I can
take this guy who's a really incredibly superior athlete, who Okay,
he hasn't played football in a year, but I'll somehow
turn him into a guy who's and he he hasn't
played football in a year, and he wasn't that accurate
as a thrower before, but I can have fixed all
(27:39):
of that, and then he doesn't get a chance to play.
I mean, this stuff about Trey Lance is just so
so silly. And when Jerry does this, like if you're
Dak Prescott, you just look over and goes whatever. Dude,
like either you're gonna pay me the fifty five million
or sixty million that I go to get or somebody else. Well,
(28:00):
I don't really care. Yeah, I do whatever you want
with the Trey Lance thing, but don't try and sell
sell me or the other locker room on Trey Lance
is better than me. It's just not It's just not real.
And that's not say that Dak Prescott is anything great.
He's a he's an above average quarterback, but he's better
(28:23):
than Trey Lance. Yeah, that's just that is an obvious thing,
because there's no way Trey Lance has gotten better by
not playing.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
You can follow me on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two.
That's at Jason Cole sixty.
Speaker 6 (28:38):
You can find me down down the third base line.
Sure Sanna's a municipal stadium. If you find me, if
you're here and listening, which you're probably not, you can
come and buy me a beer and I'd really appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
Wow, look at that. That's the shameless Jason Cole. And
if you buy him a beer, he will vote you
into the Pro Football Hall.
Speaker 6 (28:57):
Of Fame very likely, very likely.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Tell you what, I'll beno you some cash right away.
I better be on the ballot. Maybe let's Jason Jason.
Speaker 6 (29:10):
Three beers because it's more beers than wis. That's what
I gotta do, Jason.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
Who do you nominate here? Dave from Visalia? Wait? Why
is that? He bought me three beers in a game?
So I I promised I would do it here.
Speaker 6 (29:22):
Putting him up on the ballot. He's up on the
ballot right away. The beer money, let's go all right.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
His new nickname is four beers, three wives. It is
Jason Cole. Thank you very much, buddy. Enjoy the rest
of the game. Watch out for the foul balls later, guys, Bye, Jacole,
I had three wives. Just I'm just gonna tell you, Gonna,
why does that bug you so much? It doesn't. It's
just weird that he just I'm gonna say it. I'm
gonna say it.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
I have to know it kinda does. What's up with that?
Speaker 1 (29:49):
No, I'm just saying it was very I was not
expecting him to say that, as by look, he says
things that I don't expect all the time. I was
really not expecting that. I really was not. He knocked
you on your ass because he went all he went
all Ross Keller. I know'm wanna be the guy married
three times. I'm not the guy married three The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon Life the

Tirack dot Com Studios. Always a great visit with Jason Cole.
You never know when your guest is gonna talk about marriages.
Are almost getting by a foul ball. But coming up next,
there's a big change coming to the NFL today. And
after a story I saw today, I'll tell you there's
one play that is gonna be infinitely more interesting than
it's been the last few years. That's coming up next
(30:33):
right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon
live from the tire rack dot Com studios. If you
don't like Harrison Butker, he may not be playing as
much as you'd think coming up this season. I got
your ten and yeah, but it's got nothing to do
with anything you said. Big story out of the NFL,
(31:04):
and look, and this is going to mean the improvement
of a play that has had virtually no impact on
the game in the last few years. We know they
have changed the kickoff rules this year and now it's
going to be players have moved up on the field,
but they cannot move until the ball has been fielded
(31:25):
by a member of the other team. And if you
want to kick it through the end zone, you give
them the ball the forty yard line. So the NFL
is going to have kickoffs that means something, right, move
everybody thirty yards closer to the play. But they can't
move until after the receiver gets the ball. It's going
to be a different kickoff situation. And the Chiefs have
already talked the last day or so about not having
(31:48):
Harrison Butker kickoff anymore because with these new rules, they
will likely want to use a player who can make
tackles because Butker may really be involved in the plays. Now,
there's a lot of re search going into this because
this was you know, they they went off the the
usage in the in the XFL and everything else throughout
this and it was, hey, you know, the kicker was
(32:09):
involved in tackles like twenty five the time. So the
Chiefs may have safety Justin Reid, who always also serves
as their emergency kicker, be their kicker because they want
an extra guy on the field who can make tackles. Now,
this is a this is a revolutionary idea that we
could see in the NFL this year that our kickers
(32:31):
have to become full time football players. You got you
gotta make tackles, man, you got to get up there
and tackle. But was that guy jecked up? He looks
like Weatherford from the Giants. Now, I say the thing is,
I think a lot of teams will follow this because look,
can you get a guy that can kick the ball
thirty yards? Sure you could. Yeah, you need a guy
like your kickers. He's too if he's involved in all the.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
Plays all the time and literally sprinting off the field.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Man. I mean that was like.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
You're a soccer team after a guy gets a red card,
your kicker is run off the field.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
No, they did that with in the seventies when Ralph
Bernershka was a kicker for the Chargers. I wanted he
had some I think he had like a kidney issue
and he couldn't get hit. So I think the rule
they allowed him was he would kick the ball and
when he and when he left the field, another player
could run on and take his place. I'm pretty sure
that was what was just for him because he had
(33:26):
a medical situation where if he got hitty like he
could have died. So like he was able to kick
and then he had to run off the field and
somebody else ran on the field for him. Now, could
that potentially be something that happened. Sure, people want to
get their kickers off the field, so maybe that's where
it goes. But that's not happening for this year, And
I gotta tell you, you want to know what kickoffs
are gonna look like now, and how exciting they're gonna be.
(33:48):
They're gonna look like interceptions, That's what the kickoffs are
gonna look like. They're gonna look like long pass interceptions.
And with everybody so close to each other, you're gonna
get people. They're gonna put defense backs there fielding kicks,
because hey, these are the guys you want with the
ball that can see the field in front of them
going up. Hey, when everybody is so close, you know,
(34:08):
you have one vision as a kick returner. You have
another vision as a defensive back when you when you
pick off a ball and looking where the blocks are
coming in front of me, and you are gonna see
a good number of what looked like pick sixes. Right.
We had thirty five pick sixes in the NFL last year,
probably not nearly as many this year. Us will you
see at least maybe ten returns for touchdowns one hundred
(34:29):
percent because when you have everybody, when you have everybody
in a certain part of the field, it's gonna be
easier to break through everybody's rushing down to make a tackle,
and you're gonna see a lot more plays that look
like broken field plays, and you will be exciting. You
will see guys breakthrough fast, players will get by the
defense go down. You're you're gonna see at least ten
(34:52):
kickoff returns for touchdowns, and when we got like one
or two a year, maybe we're gonna see at least ten.
Probably probably between ten and fifteen, I would say, because
it's going to take teams a while to figure out
this rule, Like what do we do. We don't want
to kick it through the end zone, going give them
the ball the forty yard line, So what do we do?
We have to figure this out, and the advantage is
gonna be for the receiving team because they're gonna have
guys back there that can make plays like this. This
(35:13):
is gonna make the kickoff a great play. Again, it'll
be exciting. You're gonna see the DB's back there, and
you will see between ten and fifteen touchdowns this year
on kickoffs. That's gonna make the kickoff a mussy play.
And they made it so in theory, there's way less
chance of getting injured. Yeah, this is a bit. This
is a huge plus for the NFL.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Yeah, quick review there were nine kickoff and punts total
return for touchdowns a year ago. Yeah, you can get
to double digit. Make it exciting. But as you talk about, right,
everybody's gonna be in that short piece of the field.
Min it's really gonna be one one mistake, one slip tackle,
(35:53):
and you're gone. So you know, now we get into
a new era of NFL. The other thing is it's
an obvious ploy when you see scoring dip a little
bit the last couple of years, like, how do we
get that back?
Speaker 1 (36:08):
The gamblers need something else exciting? Yeah, yeah, I mean, look,
the the punt is becoming okay because you're saying because
it's more punts return for touchdowns than it is kickoffs.
And but the punt is still a good play, right.
The punt is still a fun play. You're feeling the ball,
there's still open field excitement for it. But kickoffs, I mean, hey,
we're just booting it through the end zone. Now, we'll
give the ball in the twenty. We'll start there, right, like,
we don't care, Well, everybody starts the twenty. We're fine
(36:30):
with that. And to become a play that really lost
all kinds of relevance like they was Okay, great, Wendy.
Is it once in a while you get someone, Hey,
we see something we were not sure about. So we're
gonna kind of pooch kick it here. It's gonna land
at the ten yard line, and maybe we get you
at the fifteen and it's five less five more yards
you need to move on to get to the end zone.
But by and large, it was just here's a kick in.
(36:51):
We're getting ready. We're starting at the twenty yard line.
I don't know how far away we were from just
having that happen.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Look like, uh, the intentional walk, Yeah, why why do
I need to throw it four times?
Speaker 1 (37:02):
Just waiting that way? Yeah, after a touchdown, we just
started the twenty yard line. Like that's I mean, it's really,
it's a I mean, it's really. I mean, we couldn't
have been more than a couple of years from that.
This is this is I mean, like I said, this
is a great move. Like it's gonna be a really
exciting play and you're gonna see it, man, just watch.
You're gonna see touchdowns. It's gonna be exciting plays and
there's gonna be new stars in the NFL, Guys that
(37:24):
have mastered the kick return more new dangerous players. This
is a This is a great idea, the best idea
the NFL has had in three years. You know'downs go ahead,
who Frostburg.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
Tyree Toanan the Jets.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
Maybe Tarii Cohen's gonna be the next best player in
the game because he's gonna be returning all these kicks
for touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
But think about all the guys that they're gonna want to. Uh.
The teams are gonna be like, well, you know you
were doing kicking duties, so we're gonna pay you like
a kicker.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
Just my as some full time safety. How should be
making twenty a year? Jerk? Hey, sorry, guys, listen, we
gotta keep the money down. This is what we're gonna do. Okay,
exit it out about of Fresco, Exit swollen Dome. Take
some time to heal. We got a big basketball story
coming up next. Jason to Mike, this is Fox
