Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
He's both tonight greetings and welcome inside.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
I'm honestly fine, he'll put you in a trance.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
To Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
live from the Tiraq dot Com studios, where, Yes, it
is a night that so far belongs to a guy
who just checked back into the game for the Celtics
after an unbelievable first half. And I'm old enough to
remember last night in the show, and I said, ye,

(00:57):
harm A Porzingis is he the X factor of the
series which we hit it right on the head all more,
he's the guy. If Porzingis can give them close to
what he gave him during the season, the Mavericks.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Won't have a chance to win.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
But boy, it's gonna be hard for me to see
that Porzingis is actually gonna be able to go nuts
and be that guy. He hasn't played for so longly
eight days doesn't sound like he's healthy.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
He doesn't know what he can do. The Celtics don't
know what he can do.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
And thirteen minutes in the first half tonight, Chris tops
Porzingis eighteen points on seven of nine shooting as the
Celtics jumped out to a twenty one point halftime lead.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
The lead has since been cut.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
To fourteen, but still the story of the game tonight
right now is Chris Tobs Porzingis and is eighteen point first.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Half off the bench.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
She was absurd pulling up from thirty at a couple
of block shots. So you know, the spring in the
step in the defensive end also there, which we talked
about a bunch, you know when we talk about the
four to five front line of what Dallas was bringing
to the table. And even with Jason Tatum having a
three of eight night, I mean he's still plus eighteen

(02:06):
but eight six, four and five turnovers that matter, still
nursing a nice beautiful fourteen point.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Ly look, And I didn't know how I was gonna feel, right,
It's what I told you last night. Yeah, how am
I gonna feel for porzing Logically? What I tell you
your home was that it was a plus plus minus
of zero. Yeah no, But look when I saw him

(02:33):
come in and start hitting shots. This is how I thought.
I didn't know which, because you never know what. I'm
just gonna get one of those.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
No, No, I.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Want the guy to lows. I want him to lose. No, no,
come on, couldn't do it for the next He wanted
out of the nick so bad. I wound out him
and his brother going into the office and saying we
can't be here.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
We gotta go someplace house gonna No, that'll build him
to close out babe.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Maybe.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
But when he came in and started hitting shots, I
was like, of course porzingis and I was fine with it.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
No, but you're fine because it's only game one. No,
it's taking.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Bills is not fine. Trust trust me. I am fine.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Fine, I.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
You're far from fine. Porzingis is three teams ago. He's
lucky he was even in the league. Right was that
was three? It hurts the Mavericks more, You kidding? Look
at your eyes are bugging.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Out, man.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
In order of who's most upset. No, no to the Knicks. Lit.
I mean, the Wizards don't care because they're the Wizards.
But but look, the Knicks. This is worse for the
map out the Knicks. The Mavericks got him. Yeah, that's
what I mean. But that's the.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Personal between you and Porzingis. That's right, Yes, because he
and I I loaned the money along time. You feel
like he perpetrated a fraud against you. He was Look,
Porzingis was young, he was immature. He wasn't ready for
the spotlight, wasn't ready to handle the success that the
New York Knicks wanted to give him. That we're ready
to hand him everything. No, no, no, no, no, I
want out. Okay, you're out. And now I like where

(03:54):
we're at. I like the guys we have his stars.
Porzingis are someone still you can't count on him to
how mavery when he's going to be in the game
and when he's not.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
So yeah, I'm okay with it.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
If he plays well, great, I really am okay. I
tell you if I was it because I tell you
I can't believe this guy. Oh look at Dallas's cut
back in the league. Yeah, yeah, Porzingi's blank. You man, no,
I did just cut the lead to eleven. You're not
completely lying when you say.

Speaker 5 (04:20):
No.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
I am.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
I am absolutely fine with Porzingis playing. It's been a
great story.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
I trust me.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
I again, it's been a long time. Just but here's
the look at your face. It's not like we were
great with him. You know, it's not like Listen, I
hurt myself. Listen today. Don't make me pull up the
big guns early in the show. Okay, don't we pull
up the big guns early, all right? Because I will.
I can't say Doc Rivers no, no, no, no no

(04:47):
no no no no, no, no, no, no, I got
I got a better one for you than that anybody else.
An insider that has a tie directly to someone. We
got one guy that gets paid by a sports book.
We got the other guy that literally wrote a book
about the guy's family.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
So what are we doing here? Look, I am, I
am okay with Porzingis playing. Well, it's fun. It's a
fun story. It's fun.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Look, I remember I like claim to Porzingis for a while,
and he's been gone for so long.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Man, but he was your first love.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
He's the guy in the beginning of the movie when
the when the when the heroes all set out on
the adventure and they say goodbye and they said, all right,
we'll see you, and then he shows up like for
some random part near the very end, going hey, man.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
I'm back. You know he is. He's a big dark
lighter from uh uh, from Star Wars.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
You got bigs like, yeah, Biggs in the very beginning, Hey,
I'm leaving, Okay, I'll see you only assault the Death
Star and then you know, poor Biggs, but that's kind
of what it is. He's like, hey, all right, but
you forget about him for soul. He's been going for
so long. Man, he's been going for so long. The
Mavericks hate it more because they actually meant a lot
to go get him, to pair him with Luca, and
that didn't work.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
It hurts them more than it hurts the still want
to know the truth behind that.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
I mean, Luca tried to dismiss it and then he
just took Porzingis his money on a on a possession
and you can see the exasperation, like.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
You wanted to go and just hammer it. So it's
a fun theater, no question about it.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
But I think we'll monitor this situation and your blood
pressure as the series goes on, because as we get
towards games five, six, and seven, when it's winning time,
now it's Porzingis is still putting up numbers, You're going
to be exasperated. And you're a science Mike.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
I tell you, I tell you, I'm fine. I'll tell you.
It was fun watching them.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
First you gave a thinking it was gonna last forever,
and then she went away, and then she popped up
on your Facebook page later.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Here's the thing I have learned over the course of
my life. That's certain battles you have to just let go.
Certain things you have to let go. You don't forget
about them entirely, but you have to can't let them
be front of mine and your this frontal temporal lobe
or the mid temporal lobe. You gotta put him in
the back, the back posterior temporal lobe. I think that's
a part.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
But god, uh, you gotta. You gotta let stuff go right.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
And there's certain things that yeah, okay, there's certain sports
things that are still front of mine that pissed me
off that I still I don't know if I'll ever
get over that Nemhard miracle three.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
But you want to hear it.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
No, not at all, not at all. He might need
that memory refreshed. No, kind of like inside out too.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna get over that memory.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
I'm not gonna. I'm not I'm not gonna get over that.
Not gonna get a couple of things with the Jets. Still, Uh,
not gonna get over Hackenberg. No, hecks not gonna get
over uh familiar, giving up the Big Home Running game,
one of the World Series. Certain things, Uh, Diaz, there's
too many. I can't even there's only so much ram
in my head. But this, this poor zingis thing, it's

(07:38):
so long ago. Now again, now it's fresh, it's three
fresh ago. That bandage it was, you thought it was healed.
Let's let's know it's once again. Listen it was you know,
this is five years ago at this point.

Speaker 5 (07:52):
Right.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Let's say you're dating someone and and you think it's
gonna be great. One of those relationships where hey, you
think it's gonna be great right away. You there's that
spark between the two of you and it feels like, hey,
this could go so like a movie montage. Yeah, nice
kind of Yeah, when you're you're at the par happy
song which you're at the park and you buy ice
cream and you have, you know, put a little ice
cream on her nose, and she wipes your face with

(08:15):
the ice cream, you know, kind of like a free guy,
right kind that's how it goes.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Right watching that yesterday? Yeah, and you get a nice.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
Fun song on there, you get Walking on Sunshine by
Katrina and the Waves, and everything is great. But after
a short amount of time, not very long, after a
short amount of time, she says, hey, not working. She
goes into your office, talks to your GM and says hey.
She comes in with her sister and says, hey, we
want out, we want out. Okay, you want out, you

(08:41):
want out, We'll get you out. And so then you
break up.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
And now you got lannigans. I'm not the loving kind
of playing in the background.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Can you break up? And she goes to somebody else.
You think, oh boy, wow, this guy, this guy, well,
I mean, I like to think I'm as good looking
as this guy. But maybe he's a little better looking,
maybe he's got a better job than I do, maybe
he's a little bit more. But that doesn't work out,
and all of a sudden, then you know they break
up and it's like, oh wow, I thought that was
gonna work. She care trying to rub my nose in Okay,
And then she starts dating this guy.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
You're like, what is that. She's dating that guy? I
mean when he was Wizards, Like, that's the guys she's dating.
Oh my good. Yeah, you know what, I've won this.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
I've moved on because then you start dating somebody who
you suddenly go, hey, you know, wait a minute. Maybe
she's not as flashy as everybody else, but boy, she
finds a way to score forty forty five points in
the game.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
Doesn't matter, you know.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Maybe maybe she's not very tall, but doesn't matter. Still
finds a way hit those threes.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
Be a leader.

Speaker 6 (09:33):
You know.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
Maybe she went to Villanova and you me, you met
her at a mixer after school or something, and sud Hey,
you've moved on. But then after this Edmond was on great,
and then you see that, hey, she's dating somebody else
now and she left that other dude, and now she's
with the fourth boyfriend and now he's okay, hey, oh
he's more stable. He has a good job. Maybe he
works in sales. Maybe he's someone who they have a

(09:56):
nice house, they live in the suburbs. They have a
pool in the backyard, they have two kids. Hey, you've
moved on. Okay, that's that. That's good and you feel happy.

Speaker 6 (10:05):
That's right at all. But you never get the unicorn. Yeah,
that was too long though, that's alright, like when you
put that in front of But I wanted to tell
you how long it was, but I had to go
through the.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
Three it's been three teams, Harmon, it's been that.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
It's been.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
In a blizzard. No, he was a unit, your guy.
It doesn't matter how many stops in between. Years ago, no,
six years ago. We've been here for all of it.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
He's that that that poor zingis thing has been playing.
We've been playing for like ten years now, man, and
this is the.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
First time he's good.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
You guys got It's the first time he's been playing
and healthy at a time when his team needs him.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Let's just say that. That's what it is. See that's
where we get the Randy van Warmer in the movie.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
But I needed to be able to show you. Hey,
it's been a long time, TJ. It's been a long
time since I did this stroll time. You're talking about
three three other boyfriends and now so oh, now, okay,
that's great. You know what, Hey, I'm happy. I'm happy
that you're happy. This is all wonderful for all of us.
Now it's okay, it's all right. I don't sit back
and think, oh, we could have been together, we could

(11:16):
have done that, we could have done all the time. No, No,
it's it's fine that you wish he was dunking like that.
He just had a big dunk. Porzingis followed up a
miss three with a dunk, and it's an eleven point
lead now for Boston.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
But look like I'm saying, it's okay.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
If Porzingis scores thirty tonight and they win, and suddenly
they're asking him questions, he's gonna say, he's gonna say
all the right things. Hey, I'm great here, boy, I
really blew it in New York. That was the whole thing,
because he said that before. And I need to act
a little bit differently and do things a little bit
differently and approach things differently.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
He said that. I mean, I am I am fine.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
I told you I was fine with the Nicks losing
the Pacers because of the way anybody left, they would
have gotten smoked by the Celtics. Anyway, I'm fine with
Porzingis here and I'm not gonna see here and go.
It's like the Knicks and the Files. No, it's it's
poor Zingis again. Long time removed from the Knicks, long
time removed. I'm good now, it doesn't You'd be the worst.

(12:10):
You would be the absolute worst, uh doctor ever? Like
if I was sitting on your couch saying, you know, Doc,
I feel pretty good. I'm over this, I'm over this loss,
and I feel like I want to vollow in my life. Nah,
it still kills you, now, Doc, I was feeling a
really good frame of mind when I committed today to
sit on your couch. Yeah, but it still hurts. This
still burns you has a little bit. Admit well, it

(12:31):
takes a tiny bit of it.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
But Doc, I said I was feeling good coming in here. No, no, no,
I know you're not really feeling good. Our sessions over
pay on the way out, baillable hours.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Baby here.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
If I cure you, I don't get the next session again.
Worst doctor ever? Wor oh, I have the best bedside manner.
How are you feeling today, I'm feeling pretty good. We'll
see about it looking like you're a little bit tired.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
But something vaccine.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
We'll see about that. Sixty minutes on the couch you
we'll see a we can fix right there now. It
was an eight point lead for the Celtics a couple
moments ago, as the Mavericks with a fierce rudded cut
it to eight a Luka Doncic three. The lead has
now been pushed out to thirteen Porzingis's big dunk instigating

(13:15):
a little mini run here by the Celtics. So it's
a thirteen point lead Boston over Dallas with about two
minutes to go Game one in the third quarter. I'm fine.
I think I've illustrated that I'm fine. And you're the
worst doctor in the world, and thankfully he thinks you
does protest too Muchfully, you are not. You are not
doing that for a living in You're here with me,
thank you. That's my next that's my next act.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
Are you kidding? I'm going back to school.

out on the Floor. Big three by Jason Tata make

(14:01):
the lead sixteen for the Celtics after a big run
by the Mavericks.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
So more on this.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
Plus apparently now the Lakers aren't going to get jj Reddick.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Oh boy, do we have to deal with a bombshell
story in the NBA from today?

Speaker 3 (14:17):
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.

(15:30):
the Mavericks had cut the Celtics lead to eight and
then enter Porzingis, who misses a three but rebounds his
own three with a jam. The Celtics go on a
run and close the third quarter within eighty six sixty
six lead over Dallas. So after all of that, the
Mavericks cut one point off the Celtics lead. The Celtics

(15:52):
going to quarter number four with a twenty point lead
eighty six to sixty six, and Christops Porzingis has twenty
points off the bench of the Celtics.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
Yay he does. Maybe the only story more shocking than that.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
Well, Also, doctor Pepper is now out selling Pepsi, the
only other more shocking story than this is that now
the Lakers are planning to offer their head coaching job
to Danny Hurley of Yukon, a shocking development to say
the least. And joining us now, the guy who has
been on the inside of this story all day, Lakers

(16:24):
insider LA Times insider Dan Wiki has a bit latest
update everything happening right now with Danny Hurley and the Lakers.
These discussions are set to accelerate over the course the
next few days, and Dan.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
I think the best place to begin is right here,
How the hell did this happen?

Speaker 5 (16:44):
It's a good question. It is very rarely. Did you
get the sort of like piece of news that feels
like a two by four of the face like normally
they're hints, right, And I guess maybe look in hindsight,
maybe they were some hints. So I think the best

(17:05):
way to kind of just so is I can try
to let people know, like what I was hearing and
what I've been hearing basically since the Lakers fired Darmenham
and I was hearing two very distinct things from two
very different groups of two very different sizes. I was
hearing JJ Redick was done. JJ Redick is going to

(17:25):
be the head coach. It's an eventuality, it's his job
from a lot of people, a lot of people, but
never from the people directly involved in the search, right,
because that's a small group. I mean it's Rock point
and GINI bus right. I don't think that's like I'm
not speaking out of turn, like like that is who

(17:46):
is going to hire the next Lakers coach? Of those
two people, they did not say JJ Redick. Ever, the
other thing I was hearing was that, you know, we
are invested in this process, you know, in turn only,
we're moving slowly. You know, I think I can say
this was the message that Rob Pointett delivered to some

(18:07):
people within the staff that you know, don't believe everything
you're hearing. You know, the word noise was used at times.
And look, I think, you know, looking back at some
of the stories that I've written over the past couple weeks,
like there were things there were like bread crumbs in it, right,
Like you know, Tuesday when it was reported that the

(18:30):
Lakers and jarroed in I Reddick, you know, I was
able to kind of suss out that, you know, not
only were the Lakers quoting no Rush, but that also
you know, Reddick hadn't talked contract numbers at all with
the Lakers. You know, James Barrego had this like pretty
wide in person interview, and that wasn't a process that

(18:53):
JJ went through necessarily, Like there were they felt like
there were like different things happening at different times. And uh,
after after recovering this morning and being able to kind
of confirm what Adrian olsh and Arrowski reported pretty quickly
after that process, like you started to shake off the
Cobboms and you're like, oh, okay, like it started to

(19:17):
makes sense to be why they moved in the shadows
the way they did a little bit more. I mean,
can I expand on this? I know I'm rambling. The
reason why that too is like, look, if you're gonna
go after Danny Hurley, right, if you're going to big
game hunt in that fashion, one, you don't I don't
think if you're the Lakers, you want Matt Ishria to
get a whip of it early on, right, because like

(19:38):
Matt Istrie is like crazy enough to give that to
twenty million dollars, right or something like that. So like
like you you you, so that's like definitely like like
you want to like, all right, you're gonna wait that
out right. And I think the second part of it
is is like I was talking to somebody that and
like the analogy we ended up coming up with it,
like if you're gonna tell, like, you know what you

(20:01):
think is the prettiest girl in school that you love her,
like you want to have a pretty good idea that
you're going to say it back. And I think there's
an element of that in this too, right that like
you you can let this kind of leak out now
that it's like you you think maybe she'll say it back.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
So what you're saying is the Lakers organization is not
the pretty girl it once was.

Speaker 5 (20:25):
I think Danny Hurley in this case is a pretty girl.
The Lakers are the Maybe Danny Hurley is like the
Rachel Lee Cook in the situation, and that would make
the Lakers the Freddy Prince junior.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
Okay, is the main thing is is there any chance
this ends up like the end of Carrie?

Speaker 1 (20:43):
Because that would oh really, it could end up that
bad telekinesis kills everybody and they go get your volta
in the car.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
Okay, how soon do you forget two coaching searches? Ago two.
Don't mean that long ago.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
That's that the.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
Lakers were at the doorstep with Tyron Lou only to
them be at the doorstep with Monney Williams, only to
them to hire Frank Vogel.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
How about how about that? Damn?

Speaker 5 (21:09):
Now, I'd like to think I'd like to think they've
learned from their mistakes. But yeah, of course, I mean,
this isn't over. It's not gonna be over until you know,
Danny Hurley doesn't live in Connecticut anymore.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
To that end, there was there was a report that
was circulated a little bit earlier that suddenly the Pistons
are reevaluating everything and Manti Williams may suddenly become available again.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
Uh well he tied to any insider like these other guys.

Speaker 5 (21:37):
No, So the money Williams thing again, like it's funny,
like the Monty Williams thing again was like something that
like kind of you heard whispers of, you know, in
Chicago during the combine, and it just was like at
one point somebody floated to me like kind of like
you know, like what if the uh, you know, what
if the Pistons said half the salary, would the Lakers
be interested? Then you know, but I but I think,

(22:00):
like I really think that it was. I mean, it
certainly seems at this point that this was a small
field race, right, and that pretty pretty early on, the
Lakers decided that Danny Hurley was the guy. And I think,
you know, I think they hold the Dio Redicks still

(22:21):
in pretty high esteem. I think I don't want to
say he's the plan B, but you know, it certainly
seems like Danny Early's the planning.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
Well. Here's the thing though, now, Dan, is they've gone
so far, like, even though it seems like it's early,
they've gone so far down the line where the Lakers
are very open with this is our number one guy,
this is who we want, and certain teams can't be
told no, because it's unbelievably embarrassing now to get back
from Danny Hurley that he's already talked to his team
at yukame a practice, Like he said, Hey, listen, yes

(22:53):
I'm talking to the Lakers, but it's business as usual.
Tells me this is going to happen, right. There's it's
not like, yeah, we want Danny Hurley. There's nothing out
of stores, you know, and say, yeah, I talked to
the Lakers. Okay, So the fact that that it's this
public tells me that this is going to happen, and
this would be an unbelievable disaster for the Lakers if
it doesn't.

Speaker 5 (23:11):
Yeah, so I think, Look, if I was a Lakers fan,
I'm not, that's not my job. If I were a
Lakers fan, though, I mean, I would brace in some fashion,
possibly for the worst, because like there is a long
tradition of coaches in Danny Hurley's position, like towing the
NBA waters only to decide that life is sort of
a college demagogue is more more like it's just a

(23:35):
more appealing life, you know. I think what's different with
Danny Hurley is that he's like been pretty transparent about
the parts of that demagoguery lifestyle that wear him out.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
You know.

Speaker 5 (23:47):
I mean I think I saw it. I have not
been following it Danny hurley social media posts throughout the
past couple of years, so I don't know if this
was totally ingest. I mean, it seemed pretty funny to me.
There was a post that was him of the first
day of the portal, and it's just him laying on
the ground in the fetal position.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
You know what is that?

Speaker 4 (24:05):
But is that the point where we're at with all
this Dan that he becomes the latest of all right,
I'm done with all of the nonsense I got to
get through to get to coach a team.

Speaker 5 (24:14):
I mean maybe, like I will say it did it
did strike me today that it would be strange to
be like preparing this like gigantic offer to somebody and
you're doing it in part because they'd like to see
their life get easier. Like that is weird, right, But
and I don't really think that's what's happening, Like it's
just different mostly you know. But but look, I mean

(24:39):
we can there's a ton to talk about here. I
mean I think another thing another part of this is
like okay, so like it reads right on paper bill
plashki uh sometimes colleague, here of your guys like absolutely
was like, oh this is traffic, Like that's you know,
like all excited, flashy, you know about the hire. And

(24:59):
then it's sort of of like, okay, well let's talk
about the guys who've made this transition.

Speaker 4 (25:04):
And then.

Speaker 5 (25:06):
You start to ask around and be like, well, why
has no one been able to do it? And the
reasons are all pretty good.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
Wow, look at Dan Waki, yeah right right now the Lakers, okay,
restrict his accent A great coach for brownny restrict accent.

Speaker 3 (25:27):
I am.

Speaker 5 (25:27):
I'm withholding my judgment on any Ronnie development plan the
coach hiring. But but but, like honestly though, like right, like,
like what does success even look like for a college
coach jumping to the pros? I think I saw a
stat I tweeted at one point that there's been four
coaches ever who have coached in the Final four and

(25:49):
the NBA Finals and and and it's only one is
one both and is Larry Brown, and like like otherwise
it's like, I mean, we're talking Van Brendakoff from like
the sixtiesn Shoes or Schefs. I should not perhaps the
Dan the Lakers cook before him, and doctor Jack Ramsey,

(26:09):
those are the four. Like, so you know, you look
at it and say, like you might look at someone
like Billy Donovan, who's like, I'm pretty good doppelganger right
in terms of what he was able to do with
Florida and stuff, and say, well, like he has been
a failure in the pros, like put Domin's on percent
of his games he's been employed and will continue to
be employed. But I mean, I don't think the Lakers

(26:32):
believe today. So if they do this, they're getting Billy Donovan.
I think their their their sites are higher.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
Well I look at it this way, Dan, because I say, Okay,
this is not just a hire for now. Yes, you're
hiring from now because other than if you hire JJ Reddick,
you hire Barego. I mean, are you really just hiring
the same guys? Is Look, are Lebron and ad really
going to listen to these guys? This is what it
really shows me that wait a minute, the Lakers may
have a vision for that that goes way bey Reddick does.

Speaker 4 (27:01):
See.

Speaker 5 (27:01):
I think Reddick does that too. I mean, like honestly,
like I mean.

Speaker 3 (27:05):
A podcast together, come on, no, but about hold on.

Speaker 5 (27:08):
But hold on, Like I'll say like two things on
that front. One, I mean, it makes it's hilarious. I
don't get me wrong, it is hilarious. But but but
I think like this notion that like JJ is like
riding you know, like on the Banana boat with Carmelo
and Chris Paul and Dwayne Wade is just not true.

(27:28):
Like this is a moderately new relationship all things considered, right, Like,
I don't know that they had even met really like
really like socially had met before this podcast. And then
I think, like, and then I think the other part
of this is like Lebron has like really removed himself
from these proceedings. This is not it is about Lebron

(27:51):
in so much as the Lakers think that Lebron James
is going to be on their team next year and
that is important to them, and that is the power
that Lebron is able to wield it at this point,
like just like the walk into the room type of power.
He's not telling them to hire anyone. I haven't heard
anything even close to that from anyone in this process.

(28:12):
And so I think, like, you know, in terms of
like like the easy way out, and this is going
to sound like really disparaging, and I really don't mean
it to be disparaging. Like the easy way out. If
you're talking about like just do it for Lebron and
like figure it out, is like you hire somebody like
Terry Stotts, you know, who's like a good you would
have hired my butenholder when he's available. You hire a

(28:34):
guy who's like ready made.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
Day one is.

Speaker 5 (28:39):
Track record of success in the NBA as a coach.
This is kind of what's funny is like, that's not
Dan Hurley and that's not JJ Reddick. Actually it's kind
of the same. Like neither of them really have that
track record. I mean, in fact, neither of them do
have that track record. I would wager to say that

(29:00):
probably JJ Reddick on day one is like has a
deeper library of NBA knowledge than Dan Hurley does, just
based on their professions. Like you, Dan early is pretty
busy a lot through the NBA season this year, and
JJ Redick was being paid to call games and to
talk about them on one of his nineteen podcasts. So like,

(29:22):
that's it is. It's an interesting pivot in the sense
that the name is different. I think like once sort
of that wears off some of the questions like are
kind of the same to me? And they are both though,
and they are both. Some of the strengths in terms
of like we are doing this to build a program

(29:43):
are also I think similar, which is kind of why
if those are the two guys that you believe are
at one and two in the peck mortar, I think
that's probably why those are the two that are at
the top.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
He's on Twitter at Dan Whyki Sports. That is at
Dan Whitki Sports, La Times, Lakers Insider and a man
who be again today with a two by four of
the face with news of Danny Hurley and the Lakers.
Dan is always buddy appreciated, my friend. We'll talk to
you as this search unfolds.

Speaker 5 (30:10):
Sounds good guys, Hopefully Hacksad Jim Duggant doesn't come by
and again in the morning.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
What do you think about that? Tough guy?

Speaker 1 (30:16):
See you Dan, Great stuff from Dan Woiki. We'll have
much more on this story coming up because look this.
To me, this shows so much maturity and good decision
making by the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
It's surprising. It's the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon
live from the tire Rag dot Com Studios coming up next. Boy,
I'll tell you we really have to break down Danny
Hurley to the Lakers. This bombshell that looks like it's
going to happen. It makes too much sense, and it
shows great maturity and forward thinking by the Lakers, which
makes me, what did you say something's going to go

(30:51):
run something else saying it doesn't make sense it's the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
We'll get to that coming up next right here, Jason
and Mike. Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
Sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific, Fox.

Speaker 1 (31:07):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. The the Celtics putting the finishing touches on
Game one victory over the Dallas Mavericks. It's one oh
five eighty two with just under two minutes left to
go in the game. Starters are out of the game now.

(31:28):
This is all but been decided for most of the
fourth quarter. We'll have more on this game coming up
in a few minutes. In addition to I will say
this before you get into the Lakers, the Celtics of
course honoring Bill Walton, who passed Await last week, one
of their former stars. And I'll tell you those black
warm ups with just that are solid black. With the
Walton and the rainbow and the day glow, that looks fantastic.

(31:49):
It's a good look.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
That's a really sweet pullover.

Speaker 2 (31:52):
Man.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
The video they did before the game was beautiful.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
Yeah, talking about the luckiest guy in the world is
a lot of his catchphrases. But yeah, you're you're talking
about style. That's one of those. Uh, we'll be looking
to see if any merchant goes up with that. Those
are so sweet.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
That's one of those that that's such a clean look
and it's such a great way to your remembering him
with his name and the colors.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
It just looks so great.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
Now. Thanks to Dan Moiki for stopping by a few
minutes ago. Lakers Insider with the La Times dot Com
look the two stories tonight, game one of the NBA Finals,
and the Lakers are moving towards hiring Yukon's Danny Hurley
as their new head coach.

Speaker 3 (32:30):
And this, to me, this is shocking, not because all
of a sudden.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
We're hearing Danny Hurley's name, but this is a move
from the Lakers that shows foresight. It shows that we're
thinking about more than just throwing something out there and
hoping it sticks, which is what they've done with the
last couple of coaches they've hired. This is let's go
out and let's get somebody who we know can come
in and be someone that can grow the brand and

(32:57):
grow the team. Because hearing JJ Red which said Hey,
he's brought Lebron the podcast with Lebron, he's never coached before. Yeah,
maybe that'll work. Yeah, we like James Barrego, maybe he'll work.
This is where I feel like somebody really influential, And
maybe it was Genie, maybe was Rob Polinka, but somebody
stood up in that room and said, hey, uh, let's
let let's not settle. Let's swing for the fences here.

(33:21):
Who do we want if we could have anybody, and
I'm sure Danny Hurley's name came up and said let's
go see if we can get Danny Hurley. Like somehow
that cut through the clutter that hey, we should be
going after the best guy we can get. And you
can only go after who's out there? Right, So, oh,
I can you only go after who's out there? You
can't go get TIBs? Right, he's gonna say it with
the knicks, right, can't get tips? But who you won't
go out there to get? Hey, Danny Hurley is someone

(33:42):
who has proven that he has succeeded. He has proven
in relationships with players. Zaliki comes in with his great system,
We're gonna do it. No, He's a guy that has
been able to manage players and manage his way, and
he loves his guys. His guys love him, which is
a big deal at this level. So yeah, I can
see why. And this shows that it's a move they're
thinking about past Lebron James. This is like, hey, we

(34:03):
think he can come and help us win now, but
more importantly, when we move away from Lebron James era
in a couple of years. This is gonna be our guy.
This is our pat Riley. This is the guy that's
gonna stay here and be our guy for the next decade.
And they're gonna give him a ton of money and
they're gonna bring him in and this is absolutely going
to happen. It makes you think somebody else has taken
over ownership of the Lakers, because this is not how

(34:24):
the Lakers make decisions. Well, but that's the question, right
who else is in the room? Did to get a
call from a guy who may or may not have
been Jerry West with a disguised voice.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
This is what you should do.

Speaker 4 (34:35):
Act stealthily and work behind the scenes, because that's the
other part of this is quiet. Look, we talked about
it at the end of the College bucket season, right
you're cutting down nets, and it becomes the already you done. Yeah,
there's excitement about you know, three pets and all that,
but it's also just the idea of a right do
you want a different challenge?

Speaker 5 (34:54):
Right?

Speaker 4 (34:54):
Would he make the jump? Especially in a day and
age where we're seeing so many college coaches just you
know what I've done on the football side and on
the basketball side of I'm gonna go work in television.
I'm I'm done with this. I'm gonna get my NBA job,
or I'm just tapping out righte a memoir and assess

(35:15):
things as the basketball in an NIL world shakeout. But
as this report came out this morning, again Woj having
written the book The Miracle of Saint Anthony about the
Hurley family, just kind of funny to me. Oh, Sham's
as that, huh, well take this and coming back over
at the top. So I want to know who's got

(35:36):
another one, who else is out there with connections, you know.
But this is also a good move by a Hurley
and company to really leverage a lot of money.

Speaker 1 (35:48):
Wants whatever you want, right, well least what you do.
You're coming off back to back national championship, You're a
young coach.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
Is that you could be using it the other way
to get whatever concessions you want and you stay right
where you are. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
No, the only Hurley this is bad news for is
Bobby Hurley, because he's gotta be walking around and going,
wait a minute, I was the chosen one. I won
national titles as a player at Duke. My brother couldn't
even get on the bleep in court for Seaton. Hall
is hoisting up bad frees and now he's gonna be
coaching the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (36:15):
Come on, man, what is this different paths?

Speaker 6 (36:18):
Man?

Speaker 4 (36:18):
But even with the like when it was the Reddick
higher and we still this is all just speculation and reports.
It's like, I like that you're thinking outside the box
and trying to figure out a path for the Lebron
era and beyond. Even if we did make fun of
the Ay, it's your podcast partner, and you're gonna have
to have some tough conversations on air.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
I mean, this makes so much sense for the Lakers,
I realize. I just can't believe the Lakers are doing it.
What a great, great decision, this one.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
What a wonderful day coming up next.

Speaker 1 (36:46):
The only part about porzingis I'm mad about after game one,
