Hello, Welcome inside our four of The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon, live from the tyrack

there at unmatch election, fast free shipping, free road hazard
protection at over ten thousand recommended installers tyrack dot com.
The way tire buying should be. You hear all the

(00:50):
time during Major League Baseball season, something happens and one
team really gets it over another, and you say, boy,
this contending team X really doesn't want to see contending
team why in the playoffs, right, Like it's a bad matchup.
Like when the when the Pirates are beating the Dodgers,
they don't want to see Paul Skeins in the playoffs.
All this stuff, No, but I'm pretty sure I can

(01:10):
say this, and I don't think this is going to change.
The Dodgers have no desire to see David Robertson and
the Rangers in the World Series. Tonight, the Rangers won
the series with the Dodgers scored a thousand runs the
first night. Rangers have won two games back to back,
three to one. Tonight, David Robertson former met Mets you

(01:33):
and he comes in in the eighth inning with runners
at the corners to face Mookie Bets, show, Hey Otani
and Freddie Freeman. He struck out all three of them
to get the Rangers out of the inning. And here's
the thing. He's done that in back to back games,
struck out Bets, Otani, and Freeman in succession. It's only

(01:58):
pitcher to strike all three of these out all year,
and he does it two nights back to back against
you know, in in situations that are really tense, when
the top of the order is coming up late in
the game, and David Robertson has shown that, hey, I
still got something left. I know I've been closing games
for a while and bouncing back and forth between being
a setup guy and a closer and I had a
great year with the Mets last year and then they

(02:19):
traded me and I stunk. But he still has some
gas left in the tank. Man. I'll tell you, David
Robertson's striking the throws. Three guys out back to back
nights in a row. That is really something. A decade ago,
he was pitching for the White Sox.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Yeah, had a couple of years thirty four saves, thirty
seven saves, and then ended up a Yankee and on
we go, but long career. In the last two nights,
just am I watching the same inning, Yes, insanity and.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
The way he's got them and he's he's and he's
not like painting the corners. They are just flailing. Yeah,
after his breaking pitches like in the dirt and Freeman
and Bets no time, they all they just look like dudes.
They've said of the like, you know, the top three
hitters in all of baseball, like the scariest top three hitters.
I think we've seen it twenty years. They just look
like guys that are just out there flailing. It's insane.

(03:10):
He's making them look that bad.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Every once in a while, you know, everything clicks back
to back nights. Just insanity, but it made for some
fun Twitter viewing of Dodgers reporters and fans. Yeah, yeah, no,
And I forgot about my misery for a little while.
I mean, the White Sox did win today, but just
in general, and I don't know, I haven't verified it

(03:34):
or whether someone was just trying to be cheeky, but
earlier today saw a couple of people posting that the
White Sox if games ended after seven innings. You've said
this for the Mets all year, that their record would
actually be inverted based on their recent failures and late
any situations, which is actually season long, that they'd actually
be a fifty to seventeen team. If you could stop
the fight after seven, they'd be better than the Phillies.

(03:58):
They haven't better record, that's.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Right, dominating a jugarnaut natally.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Baseball obviously tongue in cheek, but just that that kind
of funny thing. But you go back, and you know,
Robertson's been doing this and making guys look silly for
a long time, just usually not three guys that were
projecting towards all the fame inductions.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
He was usually making NBA players look silly. Yeah, well,
that that is true. The admiral. You know, how come
that never came up? How come he never got that nickname?

Speaker 2 (04:24):
How come people?

Speaker 1 (04:26):
I am yeah? I mean, how come nobody called him
the admiral? I mean I realized it's another guy and
as Robinson Robertson, but he could have been the admiral.
Could make that happen instead of the admiral. He could
have been the colonel or something like something like, if
David Robinson is the admiral, David Robertson could be the colonel,
or he could be the you know, whatever's above a
curl something above an admiral? What was what was? Jessup? Colonel,

(04:49):
he's colonel. He could have listened to the whole show.
He could have been mayor mccheese. Oh, mayor mccheese is
coming in. He's ahead of j.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
You know about how come a team doesn't have like
the McDonald's characters doing races like we have the sausage races,
the President and what the Big twelve can do. We
talked about it, and here's the and here's the big
here's a McDonald's twelve race. We stopped this game between
the third and fourth quarter here come to Hamburglar and
Mayor mcwebman and Grimace.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
But look, the door's open now that Grimmace threw out
a first pitch and showed up on it. What was
we were told is his birthday June twelfth, So I
mean the door's open now for you know that publicity Saturday.
Not to mention we still don't know the whereabouts of
Ronald McDonald himself.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
No, I like how you said MacDonald like, it's uh America,
very nice. Jasus Smith show in my car. You're next
to Grimmace. What should you do? Manuee's up the entire cell.
You're really big. I just like how casually Justin said
that he could be in jail. The booking shot of
agrimis from the front in the side. So today we

(06:08):
heard from Danny Hurley, Yukon coach, who said to the Lakers, thanks,
but no thanks, I'm going to stay coaching at Yukon. Well,
he made the rounds doing various podcasts and shows today
talking about why he decided to stay with Yukon and
not become the Lakers head coach. He went on the
Herd with Colin Coward earlier today and said, well, people
keep saying like, I didn't take the Lakers job for leverage. No,

(06:31):
nothing could be further than the truth. Listen to him
talk and then we'll decide if he's being honest or
if he's full of crap.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
I was really excited about the job. I mean for
us right now, we've started practice with our current team
that's going to go for potentially a three p This
was not a great time for me to mess around
or to go for a leverage play.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
I already had the leverage.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
Back to back national championships and the way that we're
doing it and putting players in the NBA and our
culture and the way we play ball. I mean, that's
that's my leverage.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Yeah, okay, load of crap, load of crap, load of crap. Yes,
we're all in for load of crap. Look you even
hear him saying, Oh, it was a great job. It's
a great job. Let me just give you a couple
of reasons, really simple why Danny Hurley was never going
to take this job. And whatever he got, he got
some kind of leverage something because the day that he

(07:28):
said I'm staying, the governor of the state says we're
gonna give him more money and make him the highest
paid coach in college sports. Like, he's gonna get something.
He got something for saying no to the Lakers, Right,
he got something And maybe he doesn't want to say what,
but he got something because he was never going to come.
How do I know this because he knew everything about

(07:50):
the job going in. He knew what the Lakers wanted
to do. They wanted to give him control of the team.
They were gonna give him a long term contract. He
knew he was coaching Lebron and Ad at least an
next couple of years, and then whatever the Lakers were
going to be. The money was good, and we'll get
to the Lakers' money part of it in a minute,
because there is a part they could have done better.
But the money was good. They were gonna make him
the third highest paid head coach in the NBA. He

(08:11):
was gonna make over ten million dollars a year. The
only guy making more money than him. We're gonna be
Greg Popovic and Steve Kerr. That's it. Everything is there,
Everything is there for him. I was impressed by the team,
I was impressed by the job, but I said no.
So wait, wait, really you said no? You were impressed
by everything. You knew what was going on, you knew
what the job was, the money was there, everything was fine,

(08:32):
and you still said no. You only say no to
that if you were gonna say no to begin with.
Throwing on top of the fact that if you're that impressed,
you take more than a day to make a decision,
I mean, I get that we live in an era where, hey,
sometimes people take too long and make decisions. I want
to make it fast. But he had this self imposed
deadline of a day to make the decision, which no

(08:53):
one was telling him he had to take a day.
Yu Khan didn't say, if you're gonna go talk to Lakers,
you got to tell us Abo by Monday. No, Yukon
didn't say that. Didn't say you need an answer by monday.
You gotta tell us that. No, he decided I'm gonna
decide fast. You only decide fast if you're not taking
the gig. Because if you really were impressed, and you
really are telling me the truth, boy, I loved everything
about it. It's more than just a one day discussion.

(09:15):
You take a couple of days, you talk to your family,
you figure it out. Do I really want to take
this job. If you're really serious about it. It's more
than one day to say I thought about it. No,
he was never taken the job, and the Lakers got
taken for a ride by him. I wish he would
have just been honest and said no, I'm not gonna
do it. But this is how it works in sports.
Someone else wants me, it means I get something else

(09:36):
more to stay. It's a tale as old as time.
But whatever he got he got. He was never coming
to the Lakers. It was never gonna happen. He was
never gonna say yes. Even if they went over the
top with a Godfather type off where he said, ah,
they could have maybe an offer I can't refuse. I
would have taken it, really. I mean there was a
pretty sweet offer. Man, all the money, they were gonna

(09:56):
give you, the power, everything, and you still said no, no,
I am going to for the Lakers. They could have
made it a little bit more difficult if they said
we're gonna make you the highest paid coach in the NBA,
right like that would have That might have helped, maybe not,
but because you see, he wasn't gonna take it anyway.
But at least you say coming in the door. You're
gonna be the highest paid coach in the NBA, more
than Steve Kerr, more than Greg Popovich, because we need you.

(10:19):
But the Lakers never understood, and they have to understand
that their brand is so low. Right now, you have
to weigh overbid. That's a bid that you would get
that any team would give Danny Hurley coming into the
a we're gonna make you this kind of But when
you're the Lakers, you gotta understand you got to act
like you're the Jets man that when it's an X
amount of money for a team to get, you got
to go over the top to get them to come.

(10:40):
Because boy, maybe things aren't as great as they used
to be. So how do you get past that? You
give somebody more money, you know, for for the Jets
to give somebody in free agency, if another team is
coming in at fifteen million a year, the Jets can't
commit at fifteen to five. The Jets gott to commit
a twenty two million, right That's what the Lakers needed
to do. They have to understand it's still in the end. Yeah,
you could say you're the because you're the Lakers and

(11:01):
we're gonna sell we're gonna make Danny Hurley our guy.
You have to understand where your brand is, and your
brand is right now, that it ain't the great job
that everybody thought it was. It's why you end up
with Frank Vogel and Darvin Ham, right. So why you
didn't have rockstar head coaches following Phil Jackson. Right, That's
why this is where you're at. Had they gone bigger,
maybe it changes, maybe it didn't. But it just shows

(11:22):
you the short sighted this of the Lakers, and that
if you're gonna go that high for Danny Hurley to
entice the guy to leave Yukon, you gotta go way
over the top if you're even gonna get him. In
the conversation in the end, I think Hurley probably use
that as an excuse all if they had offered me more,
because again I don't think for a second he was going.
But for the Lakers, you don't know where you are
and you can't just say, hey, here's a really great
competitive offer. It's okay, we see where we're at. We

(11:45):
want to put you in charge of everything. We're gonna
now give you way more than anybody else would give
you to make sure you can't say no to us.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
Well, it's the who the guy is, and who the
guy is right in terms of the coaching part of
the early equation and what he brings there, but also
who he is as a guy, what's.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
Important to him.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
We've talked about it a lot, right home and family
and culture and legacy, the fact that his dad, you know,
is such a legend and all of that. You know
that all plays in wife and roots and again family
on the larger scale as you go through. Not to
mention the fact that they're what gonna be a top
three team coming into the new season. You had a

(12:29):
couple of guys go, yeah, they're going pro, but a
couple other guys going, yeah, I'm gonna run it back,
which means we may have, you know, our annual visit
with one.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Of them as we go through.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
But it's the kind of thing that you know, Switching
costs are a very real thing, right. Why you have
a lot of advertising campaigns or whatever else you're trying
to figure out how much it costs to acquire a
new customer. It's one thing to retain it, right, You
got to make people feel good and feel loved. But
why is it always hey, new customers. Look at the deal.

(13:00):
We're gonna give you what you would normally be paying here,
there or whatever to try to bring Danny Hurley into
the building. It's the all right, you have to give
up a lot of what you've established. You're safe, you're comfortable,
You're the king of the mountain. Everybody bows to you.
And let's face it, a lot of your guys that
were at the top fighting you, they've all bailed on
this college basketball thing, right. Jay Wright's name suddenly popped

(13:24):
up as a potential Lakers coach in the aftermath. See
what happens to all of that out in the wash.
So he's king of the college basketball world.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
To walk away from that and become a guy.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
Who may or may not have a lot of control,
and you know, lip service as to how much you have.
Could you still have Clutch and Lebron that you kind
of have to answer to. Yeah, you really either the
Godfather offer if you want to believe that that was true,
or you believe like I do, and you do certainly
that you know there's still a lot to be done,
because if you want to keep expanding your program, you've

(13:58):
already got proof of concept that you know, we can
win with the facilities, with the number of people on
staff and everything else that you've got. So other than
giving you a raise, why the hell would I touch
any of it. You've already shown me that you could
meet the absolute best standards and bring us glory. But

(14:20):
what's herly do in this situation he talked about it earlier,
is on the levatard, nil and staff salaries, different things
that I want adjusted that I'm still not comfortable with.
So those things probably get easier not to mention. Like
you said, you've got the big shots, the governor, you know, Connecticut,
throwing the Calhoun things like yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
We'll make sure he can taken care of it here,
you know that kind of thing.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
I mean, it's all of that plays into Yes, while
it may not have been one hundred percent leverage, you
knew you had them over a barrel, so you you
took it to the extreme, took an eighteen hour jaunt
to the West coast and then got back in time
for the Billy.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Joel Show exit out about a fresca X at Swollen Dome.
Clearly not an uptown girl. If you're gonna say no

Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon live from the Tirack dot Com studios. You know,
I want to say, growing up, whenever they would have
those commercials about hey, you want all these great hits
in one great place, right, this was always on. Sure
they would they would always play the hook of this song.
This was always on It a yet black Sabbath paranoid,

(17:06):
you get this, get this on? This was always on there.
Free Bird was always on there.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
See Now I'm going to my subscription so I can
go watch old entrance videos of the Free Birds from
World Class Championship Wrestler against Von Erics.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon live from the
tire Rag dot Com Studios. It's time to tell you
the proportionate and the right response, which actually we had
it on Monday, to what's been going on with Aaron Rodgers.
It's a disasters now. We hit it right on the head,
and we still hit it right on the head. Aaron

(17:42):
Rodgers has not been with the Jets the last three
days in their mini camp because he had an event
that he had to go to. We don't know what
the event is. New York Post is having fun. Where
in the world is Aaron Rodgers. We're seeing all this
crazy ass stuff. The right takeaway from this is, you
know how powerful Rogers is. He's the most important guy
in the organization and Robert sala is just a coach

(18:05):
when he had to say Aaron's absence is an excuse,
but we've been in contact and he's talking to us
about it and were, okay, wow, you're just telling me now,
I have no power anymore. Like whatever Aaron Rodgers says
goes because I'm trying to come out here and tell
you how I look like I'm in charge of the team, right,

(18:26):
which tells you that all the Jets are hoping for
is all the ills they have, and they don't have
a lot because they have a really stacked roster, but
they don't have a great coaching staff. All their ills
they're hoping is that Aaron Rodgers will cover them. He
is the most powerful person in the organization. And that's
the That's what I've seen. And look, and you know,
we've talked about Rogers. I've told you how hard he

(18:46):
is to root for, how hardy makes it and and
I really am I really want to go to the
wall and make you root against me. I want to
be the guy that throws these crazy conspiracy theories out there.
But just away goes back even to when he was
a packer, Well this is true. Yeah, yeah, for a
couple of years, like are you wanting you want to
play or not? Yeah, he always had those, he always
had the conspiracy theories. But look, this is the right

(19:06):
way to break it down, because all I've seen the
last couple of days is a heavy dose of Rogers
is terrible. He's quitting on the Jets. He has decided
there is something more important than football acadians. He is
he is not telling them where he wants to go.
What is is it's a bad optic he doesn't care.
Hang on time out for one second. Let let let's
cover all of these things, because the reason this has

(19:29):
gone on the last couple of days is only because
Rogers is an easy target. Right. What he says, how
he acts makes him an easy target. Now, let's break
this down. Number one, Why did Robert Sala have to
address it? Boy, it's a big deal. Sala had to
address it. The reason Sala had to address it is
because a Son Reddick, who is a Jets big free
agent acquisition in the offseason, got him from the Eagles,

(19:52):
hasn't been to OTAs, hasn't been to Mini camp, hasn't
even talked to Robert Sala, which shows you that Jets
really may have screwed themselves by training for him, thinking oh,
we could work out his contract situation. He's not reported,
so you can't excuse Aaron Rodgers when a Son Reddick
is just just a big deal. These are two of
the five most high profile players that are not at
mini camp, so he can't say Aaron's fine, but a

(20:14):
son Reddick isn't. He's got to say it's inexcused because
he's really what they're dealing with. What's more important, which
is how to get a son Reddick in, how to
get him up to speed for the season, get him
ready to go and get past this hole. Why he
hasn't been with the team yet, So why he had
to say it. That's the reason why. So don't look,
it's not just about oh, he screwed up. He had
to do it because of a Son Reddick, who's a

(20:35):
really big deal. Now, the other part of it is this,
and just think about this for a second. Have the
Jets sounded like they're upset about this. They've not. Have
the players been upset about Aaron Rodgers missing. No, every
player that's talked about it is said, hey, he's our guy.
He was here for the entirety of OTAs. He's not
here right now, but he's our guy. Everything is fine.

(20:57):
Aaron Rodgers is the biggest superstar the Jets have, and
he's probably the most high profile player in all of
the NFL. Okay him and Mahomes right, I would say
talent wise, but high profile wise. Yeah, him and Mahomes
are the two big guys, so yeah, rules get to
be a little bit different for them. When Tom Brady
wasn't coming to OTA's because he was sick of Bill
Belichick and the way he ran the team, that was fine.

(21:17):
It wasn't. Oh my goodness, Braidy doesn't care about football.
He's putting this this personal jealousy with Bill Belichick ahead
of what's going on. No, he didn't come and everything
was fine. They still won bleep in super Bowls, too
many of them. So this is not a case where
he suddenly ducked out on the team. Res On, he
was at OTA's for three weeks. He's not here now.
Is it a good optic? No? Do the Jets need this?

Speaker 5 (21:39):
No?

Speaker 1 (21:39):
They don't. Right, they don't. I'm not gonna say it's
this is not a great optic. It just makes another
story about the Jets don't look like they know what
they're doing and they're the Keystone Cops and how are
they gonna put together wins? But the Jets are not
going to succeed or fail this fall because Rogers misses
three days in mini camp, Right, they're not. It's not no,

(22:00):
No one. Other players are missing What would you rather
have Aaron Rodgers with an excused absence or not excuse
with an absence where he's in communication with the Jets
and it's not adversarial. Or do you want like Alvin
Kamara leaving a final mini camp today because he wants
a new deal. Would you rather have somebody combative because
they want a new contractor not at mini camp or

(22:20):
someone not there because they have something else They understand
it's inexcused, but there everybody's on the same page. No,
you'd rather have that, So stop for a second before
you say, oh, he's putting everything to risk by this.
Other guys are holding out of camp. No one's saying anything.
No one's saying Alvin kamaraz, look what he's doing. He's
missing a big day of mini camp with the Saints.
I can't believe this. No one's saying that. It's because

(22:42):
Rogers is an easy target. Because if the Jets don't
seem to care, and the players don't seem to care,
and the coaches don't seem to care, then what are
we doing. It's just a way to try to say, hey,
let's let's let's let's take a hammer to Aaron Rodgers again,
because it's what we've been doing basically for the good
part of the last three years. Like, that's what this
is all about. So you want to be proportional, Yeah,

(23:04):
you want to be the right response. We hit it.
You see how powerfull he is. He runs the organization.
If Mahomes needed to be excused because he said I
have an event, what are people gonna say, Oh, I
was Patrick Moyer. He doesn't care about winning an he
doesn't care about No one would say that three super Bowls. Yeah,
well Rogers won one. Rogers won a super Bowl, right,
super Bowl's a long time ago. Has he been Has

(23:25):
he been committed, Yeah, he's been committed. He's been committed
to the Jets. Look again, I'm not saying this is
not a great optic. The Jets don't need this obviously. Yeah,
but now they're going away after mini camp and they'll
be back for training cad. It's done. Now, it's over,
it's finished. Rogers will be back. He's missing these three days.
Great if he was there, of course it would have been.
But he's been there the whole time. He's been there

(23:46):
through the entirety of the offseason. This is a case
where Hey, we really want to make more out of
this than it actually is. When you know he's coming
back though, of course he's coming back. He's not running
for press, he's not RFK Junior's vice president. He's not.
And he's got fifty million reasons to come back for
this year. He doesn't come back to Gentile void his
contract and we'll be starting We'll be starting Jordan Travis

(24:07):
by week twelve.

Speaker 7 (24:07):
It's happened before Dave Chappelle walked away from fifty million.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
He did. He did walk there. Okay, that is a
good pull right there.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
I feel I feel pretty good that Aaron Rodgers is
not gonna walk away from fifty million dollars. I feel
pretty good about that.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
I just come back to this, right when when you
look at the history of Aaron Rodgers, right, he had
Packer fans, just like Brett Fahr before him, for a
couple of years when they were done with it.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
Okay, fine, comes.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
To the Jets last year, you get the all the
talk off the field and everything else, gets the American
flag plays four plays and well that's the end of that,
and then back to chatter. Every opportunity he got to
sit on the couch and hang out with McAfee and all,
and they got the flex his power over there and
and everything from there. So it's the build up of

(25:00):
all of this. And it's June thirteenth. I think that's
really what it comes down to here. It's June thirteenth,
right on the night that we see the Chief celebrating,
and here's ring ceremonies and all of that fun stuff
and holding up their three rings, and Taylor Swift is
watching live from overseas and all of those reports. You've

(25:20):
got this story that gets to bleed for a couple
of days of same old jets. Here's Robert Salah, you know,
trying to make excuses because on the one side of
his mouth he's talking about, you know, Rogers and how
committed he's been and we've been in contact. On the
other he's got to say the well, it's an inexcused absence.
And to your point, the reddick thing does play there,
I think to a degree. But let's face it, people

(25:43):
aren't going to mash the two together. They're going to
leave them as independent events, one not impacting the other.
And for Rogers, for many, he's lost the benefit of
the doubt based on the track history, and he's an
easy punching bag for sure, there's no doubt about that.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
Does this matter?

Speaker 3 (26:00):
No, Right, the Lions lost their last couple of days
of workout because they practiced too hard, they went too physical. Hey, guys,
give me another hour just like this. Don't tell anybody.
Maybe we will and you can get the weekend off.
How coach you wait? I mean, so there's ways around there.

Speaker 1 (26:22):
They'll just hit each other really hard for the next
half hour and we'll all have a weekend off and
I'll get somebody to pay the fine. It'll be absolutely we'll.

Speaker 3 (26:30):
Slip to a media member that that this happened, and
oh no, woe is us, and you guys get an
extra couple of days off.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
Everybody good and break. You know.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
The other side of it is clearly, you know, the
running joke of Hackett can't work with anybody other than
Rogers played out because he got demoted today with Rogers
not there.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
Yeah, well look that look, and that's the thing. If Rogers,
I'm sure they'll make a change of offensive coordinator. He's
only there because Rogers is there. Again, my first point
of he they're hoping he just covers up all the
ills and they just ride on the coattails of Aaron
Rodgers into the playoffs and where wherever far they go.
That's just that, that's just the reality of where life
is for the Jets.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
That that you know what I did earlier today though?
What in that mock draft round twelve? Yeah, I took
him and then immediately went prank call, prank call, how
do I submit?

Speaker 4 (27:27):
It?

Speaker 1 (27:27):
Is my backup to Lamar, you took Rogers and then
try to not draft.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
I was like, I don't want him. I changed my mind. Oh,
I was going to write the commissioner. This was an error,
an error.

Speaker 1 (27:37):
I had two guys cute, and I picked the wrong
And I'm like, all right, I'll tell you that there
is there is now. And here's the thing is I
want to say this because I know you're my best friend,
but I'll be honest. Is there There's not a lot
that pisses me off in fantasy more than somebody after
a bunch of picks are gone by text and go
oh hey wait, I took the wrong God, I meant

(27:58):
to take somebody else. Can we go back? Who do
you want to take? And of course that person wants
to take someone who was taking like two picks later. No,
that's why I hit. I took the wrong guy. Can
we do that? Then the draft has to get I
can't stand wait, I wanted to take that guy instead. Wait.

(28:20):
I can't stand when that happens. Let's just wait, all right,
we gotta go back. We gotta wait now. Uh exit
out bout of Fresco, Exit swollen Dome. The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Now to a
guy who ran a fantasy league at Fox Sports Radio
last year, took everybody's money and never paid anybody out.
It's Steve Disager. No, what's trending now?

Speaker 7 (28:40):
See, this is why no one wants to be a
commissioner in a league with you. It's all these lies, lies,
I tell you.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
MONSI said you owe her like three hundred dollars and
waiting she's gonna come in to see you when you're
working one night.

Speaker 7 (28:52):
Actually, in my adult life, I have tried, as an
old relative used to say, I have tried like the
Dickens to avoid being commissioner in any league. I am
in okay kind of for this reason. Actually, these stories,
by the way, want.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
To you want to keep all the money and not
pay anybody out.

Speaker 7 (29:08):
Oh no, you've heard me get exactly as you know
with that soccer thing that we had with the last
World Cup, Golden headphones took all the money.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
Actually, we'll get we'll get.

Speaker 7 (29:18):
To the hockey as Florida's up three games to none,
but the Jacksonville Jaguars gave quarterback Trevor Lawrence a five
year extension, reportedly where two hundred million dollars guaranteed. Saints
running back Alvin Kamara skipped the end of mandatory mini
camps seeking a new contract. He has no guaranteed money
after this year. The Falcons were fined and lost a
fifth round draft choice next year for tampering. Atlanta apparently

(29:39):
talked to free agents early, not just to their agents.
The NFL determined there was no tampering in Philadelphia's signing
of running back Saquon Barkley. Defensive end Kalais Campbell will
sign with the Dolphins. The UFL Football Championship Game is
Sunday on Fox TV. The Florida Panthers are up three
games to none after winning again in the Stanley Cup
Final to holding on four to three at Edmonton. Teams

(30:03):
leadings Cup Finals two to Oher have won about fifty
out of fifty five in those series. It's now three
games to none for the Panthers, thirty five shots for
the Oilers but a home ie loss, and Florida has
won six in a row. Game four will be at
Edmonton on Saturday night. San Jose promoted Ryan Warsofski to
head coach. The Sharks have missed the playoffs for five

(30:25):
straight seasons. San Jose won this year's draft lottery. The
IndyCar Series is moving to Fox TV next year, so
Fox will now carry the Indy five hundred in addition
to NASCAR's Daytona five hundred. NBA Finals are off Game
fours at Dallas Friday night. Celtics lead the series three
games to none. Boston has won ten games in a
row over the last month and yes in the past

(30:47):
three seasons. Kyrie Irving playoffs included now oh to thirteen
against the Celtics three WNBA games. Tonight, Las Vegas was
just five and five, but it won at Phoenix Jackie
Young thirty four points, Asia Wilson thirty two with fifteen rebounds.
Seattle is nine and four after winning at slumping Dallas
which is lost six in a row. Indiana was three

(31:07):
and ten but defeated Atlanta ninety one eighty four. Caitlin
Clark seven points, six assists, seven turnovers, teammate of Leah
Boston twenty seven points, thirteen boards. In the late MLB
game in La Texas beat the Dodgers again, three to one.
Southern California native Michael Lorenzen got the win, going seven
innings on FS one. Arizona pummeled the Angels eleven to one.

(31:29):
Christian Walker with two early homers. Jack Peterson hit a
grand slam. The White Sox ended a four game losing streak,
winning in ten innings at Seattle three to two. Garrett
Crochet had no decision but another great start for the
White Sox seven innings, one run, allowed thirteen strikeouts. He's
tied for the major league leading case In fact, the
Mariners offense with nineteen strikeouts tonight, as it went three

(31:52):
for thirty three Minnesota sixty two over the A's. The
win did Joe Ryan, as have lost six in a row.
A's offense went four for thirty. The Mets got a
two run homer bottom of the ninth from j D.
Martinez to beat Miami three nothing. He had two hits,
the rest of his team one for twenty one, but
in a w Boston beat Philadelphia and Aaron Nola nine

(32:14):
to three. Nola allowed eight runs in three and two
thirds Tampa Bay three to two over the Cubs, who
had just three hits. Race scored three times in the
seventh to win. Taj Bradley the winning pitcher, eleven strikeouts,
win seven innings with no earned runs allowed. Today, Kansas
City with two runs bottom of the ninth, beat the
Yankees four to three, and Alec Marsha the Royals through
six no hit innings, no decision. Atlanta won six to

(32:36):
three at Baltimore. Jussy Albi's four hits wins today for
Detroit and Saint Louis.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
Back to you, all right, I'm trying to see who
the Mets are gonna get from the Dodgers when they
want Martinez back. Hang on, who are we gonna want here?
I don't know because one home run, I don't know.

Speaker 7 (32:55):
They've cycled through DHS. It's outfield, third base. Thank you
to you, JD.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
Martinez.

Speaker 7 (32:59):
Just be stationary, and I.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
Don't know if you've heard of no it is gonna
be tough because his name is Yeah, not that that's
the thing. It is going to be tough to find
a position. But you know what, hey, you know you
can platoon just you know O Tani Blazer gets right. Okay,
that's what you call strategy, said, you can. You can
find a way to get him on the field.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
Boy.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
It's gonna be tough though, because you had the positions
that he plays or would play. It's gonna be difficult.
But we can always figure to worry about Grimace hitting
the strikes out. Okay, Grimace is our eighth thinning guy. Man,
he's great.

Speaker 7 (33:33):
That's all the nets fans do.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
Grim Steve very nice. The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon Live from the tire rack dot Com Studios. I
almost said The Jason Smith Show with Jason Smith. I
almost said that, well, give yourself a little more love.
But coming up next, well, after getting spurned by Danny Hurley,

(33:55):
not only are we going to talk about who the
Lakers have now officially moved on to to be their
next head coach, but if they're gonna talk to this guy,
they should talk to another guy whose name might knock
your socks off, right, here, Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. That was like six songs in a
span of few stuff going on there. That's like one
of those growing up where they would have those contests
going can you identify all fifteen of these songs played
in the next eight seconds? It'd be like try to
and you Oh, the first one was was Black Dog

(34:37):
by led Zeppelin, and the second one was Gimme Shelter
by the Rolling Stones, and that there were like, that's
what that sounded like a little bit O. We're gonna
get a little bit of every song.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
Well, we'll do that and bring that contest back when
we add music hours to the show.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
All right, No, I'm digging that. I'm digging that. Coming
up next. The Lakers have moved on, just like me
when I was in school and I really wanted to
ask a girl out, and I had everything all planned.
I asked her out and she said no, okay, I
moved on. I was I'm not gonna sit here and
go Okay, no wait, let me give you no, no
Lakers went after Danny Hurley. Danny Hurley said, no, Lakers

(35:12):
are moving on. They're going to now speak to JJ
Reddick for the head coaching job. JJ Reddick, who apparently
had the job right up until we found out they
were going to talk to Danny Hurley, although we did
talk to Dan Waki La Times and Lakers inside her
the other night. He said, look, the name JJ Reddick
has been thrown out around the job more than the

(35:33):
guys in the room and the women in the room
making the decision. So yeah, now they'll get to JJ
Reddick at some point. Clearly is familiarity with Lebron and
all of that's going out. But now they're officially going
to talk to JJ Reddick. Now, let me throw this
out there. So if you're gonna go talk to JJ Reddick,
who has zero coaching experience but has been broadcast the
last couple of years has been hitting you with all

(35:55):
kinds of great hot takes. If you're going to do that,
why don't you also talk to Jeff Van Gundy. Okay,
Mark Stein was on the show earlier tonight and he
had a big bit on his substack and his podcast.
That Jeff Van Gundy, who's been advising the Celtics all year.
The Clippers are going to do all they can to

(36:15):
try to get him on ty Lou's bench. This will
be the first time for Van Gundy back on the
sidelines in fifteen years almost basically, so it's a long
time he's been doing this, but they really want to
get in for ty Lou's bench. If you're the Lakers
and you're talking to JJ Reddick, how do you not
go talk to Jeff Van Gundy? Right, the guy's got
the cachet being on TV, being on ESPN. His knowledge

(36:39):
of the game is absolutely one hundred percent unquestioned. Right,
he's done it before, He's got big market experience. He's
gonna be able to handle the Laker job. He can
handle egos, he handled New York. He held onto Alonzo
Morning's leg like, you know, willing to get into the
thra if he needs to. Now. Is he a great candidate? No,

(36:59):
But I think just the fact that JJ Reddick is
the leader tells you there's not a lot of great
candidates out there that all the guys he would like.
If a guy that's just been spewing out hot takes.
Is you're leading candidate to coach the bleeping Lakers. So
if Van Gundy is available, yeah, go talk to him.
Would he be able to get all the Lakers on
the same page? One hundred percent? I mean, I know
he hasn't been in the locker, but he's been around

(37:21):
the game. He's been doing stuff for a while. Mark
Jackson is also rumored. He's always rumored to be there,
and he's been on the sideline almost as long as
Van Gundy has. Would he be a guy to get
the lake because actually got to do is get him
on the same page. You don't have to come in
with some kind of crazy system. You got to get
him to play a little bit more defense, which is
a Van Gundy specialty, and you got to get them
all on the same page. And who else can do
that better like I would? If you're gonna talk to Reddick,

(37:43):
you should absolutely talk to Jeff Van Gundy. And if
I have my choice between the two of them, man,
why would you not go with Van Gundy if he
wants the gig.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
Seven hundred and forty eight career games as a coach,
uh fifty eight percent winning percentage, five hundred in the
playoffs forty four and forty four. But to your point,
a guy that's been around the game, the guy who's
watched it all, evaluated, been in those meetings talking to coaches,
getting those insights for those seventeen years, and now part

(38:11):
of this Celtic squad right saying, as Mark talked to us,
and you can find the whole interview on the podcast
when that goes up wherever you download your audio here. Momentarily,
the idea that he's attached to the hip with Brad Stevens,
talking to Joe Missoula and doing all of this for
a team that ran rough shot through the Eastern Conferences

(38:32):
and now one win away from the title. Yeah, you
get him in the building. If nothing else, make sure
someone who's done this before has a bunch of questions
that are just sitting on file, so you can just
tape his answers and hopefully use that even if you
don't hire him, that the guy's gonna have some insight

(38:53):
as to how the NBA is run and proper questions
that you could ask maybe your eventual head coach.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
Does that make sense? I think that works? No works,
I didn't know that part of the interview.

Speaker 3 (39:06):
Process is getting some feedback about your organization and and
what you know best practices are, particularly if you're gonna
be grabbing a ring from these guys.

Speaker 1 (39:17):
Yeah, how do you see our organization from the outside?
How much time do we have? We had a lot
of time here. Let me let me tell you, let
me tell you stuff I'd be doing. Right, A million
questions too, right, yeah, no, look, it's it's it's not
it's not the best process and the way. And because
I'm talking about Jeff Van Gun, do you this tells

(39:37):
you where the the the level of potential head coaches
is at is where these are the guys that are
at the front, Like, like the Clippers really want Van
Gundy to be on on Tylo's bench, right, and and
and JJ Reddick is at the top of a lot
of people's listen, he hasn't coached a game, Like, there's
not a lot of guys out there. There's every year

(39:58):
is not Hey, there's new guys coming up with new
systems that come in. It is really difficult to cut
through and be a successful head coach in the NBA.
It's not like the NFL, where hey, every year there's
three or four guys with that are great DC's or
ocs that learn how to do it and they become
good head coaches. It's not like that in the NBA.
It's what do we do? Do we recycle a guy?
A guy could be the coach of the year one year,

(40:19):
two years later he's out of a gig, right, Monty Williams.
You know that shows you how difficult it is, which
is why the idea of Jeff Van Gundy it sounds like, wow,
it's so out of Oh no, maybe it's not so
much out of left field, even though he hasn't been
on the sideline since what two thousand and seven, Like,
that's where you're at with Just understand, this is the
reality of where you're at with trying to find a
head coach for your team.

Speaker 3 (40:40):
If nothing else, you know, the price of pokers six years,
seventy million dollars. They we're gonna give a guy with
no coaching experience that. So that's my asking price.

Speaker 1 (40:51):
Hey, first thing, before we start any questions here, we're
gonna start at six and seventy two. Okay, just so
we know, I mean, just so you know, I'm not
gonna come in here for you know, two years five million.
Not not gonna do that. Okay, I'm gonna get what
you're gonna give Danny early.

Speaker 7 (41:05):
They automatically take ten mil away from him because his
brother is.

Speaker 1 (41:08):
You know, ah, that's it, brother, he's taking his job. Basically, Hey,
I'm feeling pretty good here. Exit out out of Fresca,
Exit swollen Dome for Mike ab Jason. Our Best of
podcast goes up in about ten minutes. You are listening
live to Fox Sports Radio. Metsio, how about Jenny Martinez?

(41:29):
How about j D Martinez. But the White Sox won too, Buddy,
I'm happy they did
