You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:28):

right now. We're live from the Tirak dot com studios

free shipping, free road hazard protection at over ten thousand

(00:51):
should be. Well, it looks like we're not going to
be awarding the Stanley Cup tonight. No, and we could
be headed back for something that ninety nine percent of
fans have never seen in their lives. Right now, end
of the second period, the Edmonton Oilers lead the Panthers
(01:11):
three nothing. Zach Hyman on a breakaway with a couple
minutes ago on the second period. Edmonton now leads Florida
three to nothing going to the third period, Edmonton wins.
They go back for Game seven of the Stanley Cup
Final on Monday, and Edmonton has a chance to do
what hasn't been done in any sport since the NHL
in nineteen forty two, and that is a team can
(01:34):
come back from three games to none down to win
a championship. We've seen it before. We've seen three to
none obviously the Red Sox and the Yankees. We've seen
teams come back from three down to win big series
in hockey. The Kings did it a few years ago
against the Sharks. We almost saw the Heat do it
against the Celtics last year, or a couple years ago
in the Eastern Conference finals. So we've seen teams come
(01:56):
back from three down. We've seen them win once in
a while. We've seen them FoST games seven, But nineteen
forty two, I don't think anybody listening Mike can remember
the last time someone's come from three down to win
a championship. And the Oilers are twenty minutes away from
potentially getting set to set that up on Monday. It's incredible.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Well, you know, we always talk about seeing things for
first times, and you know random stats that show up
for us that say, hey, this has been done for
the first time. You're like, really, I don't think so,
but really, but here we have it. You know, all
they wanted to do was crawl back to Edmonton and
they blitzed out of the gate. The other thing nobody's
heard since nineteen forty two a national show in the
(02:39):
evening lead with hockey this is true. Well maybe in ternally,
I'm just kidding. We've done that or Montreal and you
and I have done that a bunch in years past,
particularly you know when we had those great Kings Blackhawks battles,
and you know, Frostburg and I had our great battles
on air over those as well. But certainly, you know,
(03:00):
this is historic stuff and makes folks reevaluate the life
and times of Connor McDavid.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
And and maybe now you know.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Hope becomes less of a dangerous thing, especially if you
have a baseball team that sucks because people forget what
cow many outs are in it in and or you
know random guy who trashes one of the players on
his favorite team and then is kissing his ass to
ask for an autograph you know, those kind of things
happen all over h huh, sure, sure it happens you're
(03:31):
a guy.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
But look, look we'll get to the Mets and the
continuation of the Grimace era in a few minutes. But yeah, Like,
I don't know what you would say at this point.
If you're the coach of a team and you're up
three zip and now suddenly you're down three is that
now it's good for Florence. We'll be going home to
play game seven. But I don't know what to say, Like, like,
what do you say, Hey, let's get back to being
(03:54):
that team we were the first three guys? Like, like,
I don't know what to say. And look, there's a
reason why we see this potentially happening in hockey a
little bit more than other sports because hockey the the
home ice, the home field advantage doesn't mean as much
as it does in other sports. You can win on
the road, you have a hot goalie, you can win,
and and the momentum from game to game. In hockey,
(04:15):
it just doesn't carry over like it does in other sports. Right,
It's it's a little bit easier to win on somebody's
home ice, uh, in hockey than it is to win
on somebody's home floor. In the NBA, Major League Baseball,
it's it just happens that way. So it's it's no surprise.
And in hockey we potentially see this. But man, I'm
telling you, I mean, this is this will this will
be history on Monday night people are watching TV. I've
(04:36):
never I've never seen this before in my life and
I may never see this again if Edmonton comes back
and wins the Stanley Cup.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Yeah, I mean I always question it how much home
home ice or home court or whatever in this day
and age really means, you know, with with travel being
different than it was once upon a time, uh, and
all the you know, just physical recovery tools that are there.
You know, it looks psychologically it's got to be better,
(05:03):
no question about it. But you know, in this particular case,
you'd love the in season hard knocks kind of thing
to cross over into another sport for a moment. So
after this game, what happened in the locker room, and
after this game, after it became three to two, what
happened in the locker room, and all of a sudden,
(05:23):
that girl that became famous for you know, exposure, she
got a lot of exposure. Suddenly she's creeping around again,
so all's right with the world. After she was pretending
she was going to go into hiding, so you know,
they rallied back and it's it's really as curious thing
and it look, it gets us to lead with hockey.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
We celebrate the sport.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
And when you've got one of the best stars in
the game that you get to talk about for another
couple of days, that's good. They do need to buy
these guys a bigger desk. Maybe some of the money
spent on Messier's coat can go towards a bigger dad.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Mess needs that coat, man, it's a good looking and
he needs that red he needs that smoking jacket that
he's on the It's I really Helvett, I really starting
to have a pipe. In the other hand, yes, that's right.
As we left off last time, Mercutio was trying to
bring back a message to Romeo. Juliette was shut up
in the tower and was not able to go about,
Like really, I want to pipe, I want a blanket,
(06:22):
and I want a sheep dog at his feet, Like
that's what I'm like a man.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Either that or he's hosting an episode of well, reenactment
of Clue, let's go for the main stage. No, it's
but I mean this is great stuff. I mean you
go through the year and look at the Panthers at
home twenty six thirteen and two, twenty six eleven and
four on the road, so consistency Edmonton twenty eight nine
(06:47):
and four at home, twenty one, eighteen and two away
from home. So now I know it's gonna be said
unless we get some miraculous comeback here, which, let's face it,
we've seen some really strange ass stuff between hockey and
soccer and well the world of Major League Baseball in
recent days. So never say never. But right now, got
(07:11):
to feel pretty good if you're an Edmonton fan.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Updates to come on this again. Going to third period,
Oilers twenty minutes away from forcing Game seven of the
Stanley Cup Final. Meanwhile, because it is I feel like
a Friday night is like WNBA and CFL night, right.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Like, hey, we have it now, get that I on
spotlight in going and.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Caitlin Clark and the Fever win again. They beat the
Dream ninety one seventy nine. Caitlin Clark sixteen points, seven assists,
four rebounds, shoots, well from the floor game high plus thirteen,
the fever creeping closer to five hundred. Kitlan Clark is
really playing well.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
O way that schedule thing we talked about at the
beginning of the season that was co opting and became
a local point for all. Yeah, really, what I gotta
start getting right credits? Man, I don't know. That could
get me into some kind of union to take care
of me.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Yeah, but here's the thing, Well, what do I say?
Information is free, People want to take it, They take it,
but listens. But the big news today is the first
round of WNBA All Star voting has come out, and
there's a couple of wow moments here and plus I
think this is a real great idea what we should
do for the WNBA All Star Game. So the voting
comes out and Asia Wilson, two time MVP Best Player
(08:23):
All Around player in the league, leads the All Star voting.
She's got about two hundred and seventeen thousand votes. She
leads Caitlin Clark by a thousand. Kaitlin Clark has two
hundred and sixteen thousand votes. It's neck and neck, and
then you're looking at at Aleiah Boston is third. With
one hundred and seventy one thousand, and her kid's allowed
to top ten. I don't know, but I think it's
weirdy age. Is there an age limit? I mean, just
(08:46):
just I mean, because you know, just not to be
conspiracy theory, but here's the first setting of the first
report of votings that come out, and Caitlin Clark is
really really high, but she's not quite as high as
who the best player in the league is, right, She's
a thousand below of Asia Willison. Dare you? I mean,
it's just such a no, no, no. You know, it's
like in a video game, like when I used to
(09:06):
get so pissed off, like when I would play like
PGA Tour on Genesis or European PGA Tour, and I'm
playing great, and I'm like eighteen nineteen under par I'm
like flipping Tiger Woods. Man, I'm like eighteen. Of course,
everybody else is like six seven hundred. But one guy
is like right now, like minus seventeen. I'm like, come on, man,
you're just making it so I have to make shots
(09:26):
at the end. How is I'm shooting so incredibly well?
Everybody else? Man, everybody else is minus seven but one
guy is one stroke back of me, minus ten, not
minus twelve. He's come always one stroke back of me.
Like I feel that way with this, Like, hey, here's
here's Asia Wilson, but Caitlin Clark is a thousand behind.
So like, is Caitlin Clark really a thousand behind? Or
did Asiah Wilson get vaulted up by a thousand votes?
(09:48):
But it doesn't matter because the best part is this
time last year when WNBA All Star voting was announced,
the leader had thirty five thousand votes. There you go,
all right? I mean just think about that for a second.
What did I say, Caitlyn Clark magic and Larry effect
on the NBA. She's magic and Larry. Remember that thirty
five thousand votes a leading vote get her last year?
Two hundred and sixteen thousand votes, same time this year,
(10:10):
and everybody's in the high hundred thousands, right, The top
ten are all the high hundred thousands. And this is
an unbelievable story. Now this gets me to my idea
for the All Star Game. Oh, let's go okay now,
And it's been floated out there and I've seen a
people talking about this, and hey, if the rookies are
so such a big deal. Let's play rookies versus the
Vets in the All Star Game. And I'm like, eh,
(10:32):
you know, I don't know about that. I mean, yeah,
it would be fun to see Caitlyn Clark and Angel
Reese on the same team for a little bit. We
fun to see some but they would just get boat raced, right, like,
I mean, they would just it wouldn't be fun. Like,
I don't know that. I don't know how much they
would get the ball across half court.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Well, one of your inside post position players.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Yeah, I mean Cameron Brinks wouldn't play. So what are
you gonna do? Right, So I think that's you know,
that's something I would go, Yeah, that sounds fun in theory,
But when the score is fifty five to six and
they're changing teams at halftime, I would think, okay, you know,
we gotta do something else. But how about this, right?
How about this? Because it's such a big deal, right,
such a big deal of who selected the teams, and
you heard a lot of whispers it's political. Riqueo gun
(11:14):
Biwally pulled out of the the evaluation process for the
All Star team for Team USA because of the politics
of it. How about if you had Team USA against
the best of the WNBA, all Team USA, and then
the rest of your team comes from the best players
in the WNBA, people who are not on Team USA.
(11:35):
You give Team USA an extra game or two here
to give them an extra game to get ready, get
ready to go a little warm, and you get the
rest of the WNBA on going. Okay, we'll show you
what we thought we think we are. Think about that
back court of Kaitlin Clark and a gun Biwally. There's
no shots for anybody else because first of all, a
Gunbawally will take all of them, and then Kitlyn Clark
will take whatever is left. But there won't be any
because she takes like eighty shots a game. But there's
(11:57):
a lot of talent there and that you really don't
like her. I like it.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
She takes too She's gym. Why do you want because
I let she takes so many shots. She leads the
league in shots in total shots and she's like fortieth
in shots in sha.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Yeah she's only at thirty seven. Takes so many shots.
I mean she's yeah, No, she's my dream. But I'm
just gonna commit to keep shooting how long are you
gonna do that? For well, for me, it would be
like like like, you know, four shots, they would say
stop shooting. She's on like year seven of going ten
for twenty four of your night. Man, it is fantastic.
But look, she's a big player, she makes shots, a
(12:37):
second leading scoring player in the NBA w NBA. You know,
she's got a little bit of a chip on their shoulder.
A couple of players that haven't been uh selected or
in consideration, you know, they got a little bit of
a chip on their shoulder. You know they're wondering, Hey,
how political is this really? That suddenly here's the team
that's out there. Everybody's playing together, we know selected on
the team. I think that would be kind of fun
(12:58):
to see Team USA against the best the Wnbaly see
do we have? I mean, is it?
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Well, you would get a Leah Boston, you would get
Angel Reese, sure, right, So I mean you're talking about
another couple of your top vote getters along the way.
So yeah, I mean, look, all of it is to
try to figure out eyeballs, right, And I know the
Olympic selection committee, you know, they doth protest too much
(13:24):
about the rules of engagement and whatever else Kevin Durant
and whoever, whoever else wants to do with you. There
are steps to this, like, oh, there's not like there's
millions every job, every profession and all the way through.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
There's ways to cut lines.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Now, if you do it at a theme part, you
might get rated out and sent out of the park.
So you gotta be careful there as you should be
scourge of humanity, just like people that don't return their carts.
But that's a whole other diatrade for another time. Just
kind of roll them in your general direction as you're
standing there. But it's the the idea that you know,
you can get a number of these young up and
(14:01):
coming stars into the game and garner more eyeballs for
the rest of your teams, the rest of the players
that you're trying to get over all the little vignettes
that you get to do about their personalities and who
they are. Yeah, it's a complete cell job, absolutely no
question about it. I mean, the Aces have sold out
(14:21):
every game. Great story. You've got Angel Reese with their
seven straight double doubles. You don't have to like it,
just figure out how to get in and out involved
and then we just keep going from there.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
I mean, think about it. Many there would be some
kind of offense out there, and it would be a game.
It really would. It would really be a game because
it'd be so much pressure on Team USA to show, hey,
we're the best, because you know that in the selection
process they talk to the players and you know, some
of them, Yes, let's take this player. No, let's not
take the What would you feel like if we took Caitlin?
(14:53):
What if we took somebody else? What if we didn't?
You know, the whole camaraderie of it is out there.
So yeah, I think I think you'd get a lot
of deal. Yeah, I'd like a shot at them. Yeah,
I can't play now. I can't crack this roster for
some reason. Oh I'd like to see that. It would
be it would be the most competitive All Star game
that you would you would see in sports that in years. Yeah, yeah,
(15:16):
because I mean, look, even even the baseball player said afterwards,
how'd you feel with with home fielder? I remember, I remember,
you know what interviewed. I remember interviewing Brian Wilson of
the Giants right after the All Star Game, and I said,
I remember because you know, Brian Wilson. He was a dude. Man,
he was was just Brian Wilson the other on his birthday. Two.
Oh that's true. Now this is not Brian Wilson beach boy.
(15:36):
This Brian Wilson, former Giants reliever. And I said, what
was it like? I said, what was it like? Man?
Was it was exciting getting out there and knowing that
if he won the game, the National League was going
to get home field advantage? And he goes to me, Oh, man,
we had meetings every day we've been here talking about this,
talking about playing hard, making sure we go out there.
Everybody was on the same page. You wouldn't believe it,
(15:57):
I said, really. He goes, no, we didn't talk about
that at all. No one really cares. And I think
you said something like, what do I care If I'm
giving home field advantage to the Phillies. I don't care
about they wouldn't give it to the Yankees if they
want to. I'm gonna try to win, but I don't care.
We're not getting it, so on doesn't matter to me.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Right, It's it's like theting season tournament.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
I don't care.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Wait, you're gonna get me five hundred grand if I
win it. Okay, I'm in right say the same thing.
You know here it's personal pride and a showcase, you know,
and another spotlight on the league, which which is good, right,
It's it's another another opportunity to showcase the non Caitlin
Clarks of the world. I guess for lack of about
even though she'll be there, but you know, to get
(16:39):
everybody else, uh, some extra juice for for the league's
second half and obviously for the Olympics coverage. Because basketball
is as good as the women's team has been, it's
never been a focal point. It's been gymnastics and swimming,
and right now it's setting up to be gymnastics and
swimming once again. As much as we you know, have
this sir, of love for the WNBA and women's basketball,
(17:03):
women's sports, right a huge, huge moment in time here,
it's still the women's basketball squad is distant to the
return of some own biles. I mean, she's got documentaries
coming out and all this other stuff. And then we've
watched the last couple of days it's you know, swim
trials and some of the crazy ass numbers and records
(17:26):
and proposals and everything else going on that that takes
center stage always and forever.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome. Let's put
it out there, make it happen, Team WNBA, Team USA.

Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show is my best friend,
Mike Harmon. You know, I gotta say I feel both
smart and I feel sheep sh at the same time.
You don't, I feel like, oh, this is great, dude.
I thought, dude, this is awesome. You kidding. I feel
so smart because when you feel like you have an
idea for something and then you find out, oh no, wait,
(19:10):
that's how they're doing it. Uh. So, you know, we
talked for a couple of minutes a few minutes ago
about the WNBA All Star voting. Right now, great it is.
You look at the difference from last year to this year.
Right the leaders are in the high two hundred, high
hundred thousands this point. Last year thirty five thousand votes race.
You know what, hey man, you know, Team USA versus
Team WNBA would be would be really great. That's how
(19:32):
they're doing it.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
I don't know how I missed the press release on
it though it's so grand said no, but I feel
like like that would have been big enough news well,
Caitlyn Clark will get a revenge that we.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
Would have been talking about.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
I'll get a revenge, She'll get detorch others. Damn being no, look,
I what about me?
Speaker 1 (19:52):
I do give you that because there hasn't been a
lot of publicity on it. I'm looking I'm going, boy
with a great idea that because we were just talking
about like, oh, you know, hey, what if they did
it that way? That would be really cool if they
did it that way. Yeah. And then I look at them,
going okay, let me look and really see what the roster,
you know, what the rest of the roster could be.
And then and then it says Kaylen Clark. Then you
see a headline says Kaylen Clark could face Team USA
(20:12):
and all singer. I'm like, wait, that's how they're And
it's not like it's right at the top of Google
where you type it in it tells you right there.
I'm like, oh no, that that's not that's how they're
doing it. They're they're gonna play it. That's fantastic.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Well, you know, I guess in twenty twenty one, here
you dig a little deeper. Oh man, they did the
same thing.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
I'll take Kale forgetting that game. That's great. I'll take
Yell forgetting that.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
At the w NBA All Stars won and the high
score with twenty six points was Rique Agumbwane.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
Oh sure, that's great. No, I mean, I mean, I'm like, okay,
I mean I didn't know that's how they're I'm like, yeah, okay, hey,
you know, that would be pretty cool because you see
a lot and it makes sense. Yeah, no, because because
all day today, you know, and I'm looking around, I
see a lot of oh yeah, play the rookies versus
the versus the vets. I'm like, a, I go, no,
but everybody in the Team USA, that'd be pretty cool.
I'm like, yeah, that might work. And of course I'm
(21:02):
like yeah, okay. So I'm looking at who might be
on there and what they would do, and I'm looking
at the Team USA roster and I start looking at
some players. I'm like, okay, well, you know, she might
be on it, or she might make it. Okay, she
don't make it, but not once. And I look and
going it's other doing actually doing it.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
So here you gos twenty five percent current w NBA players.
Now that's where this could get fun. That's where they can.
Can we get your ballot of how you voted? Oh yeah,
and then twenty five percent media members. As we know,
media members get stuff wrong, Hall of Fame, inductions and
(21:36):
everything else.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
So uh, that was that was great. The player was
Oh my god, that was fantastic. I just like to, hey,
what a great idea. Yeah, they're doing it. Oh that's
a girl. It's grosso. Okay, great, I approve, I approve, great, wonderful.
That's fantastic. I like that.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
So now I'm ender going, all right, did we see
this story briefly?
Speaker 1 (21:54):
In it just rolled? I'm like, what the hell happened
last week? That what I have trump?
Speaker 3 (21:58):
This give it amount of w NBA talk you have to.
This didn't become a bigger deal. And certainly you know
I saw the headline or reading that it that it.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Was on and off the radar quick.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
So like I'm like, all right, in rewind.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
What happened a week ago?
Speaker 3 (22:14):
Yeah, well with the NBA FINALBA Finals, you know, the
beginning of the Grimace era.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
I mean there's there was a lot of stuff had.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
Actually, you know, I I probably was in my fields
because I was already in that while I embraced the
Grimace era. There was a lot of Grimace era talk,
so it's kind of it weighs on me, particularly when
my team gets worse by the day.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
Yeah, but I mean, look, I mean you have to
embrace what if you really go full embracing it. People
said it was dead, it was gone. The Grimace era
is over. McDonald's went from yeah, Grimace is our avatar
on our Twitter page with a Mets head on the
Mets lose one game. It's okay, we're going back to
where we had it now, we're back to McDonald's logo.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
You know, we'll still, we'll still still. You know, I know,
I know a guy I think in a place. But
what they need to be doing, though, is really aggressively
going after people for trademark and copyright infringement because the
amount of bootleg Grimace and Mets merch out there, and
it all looks terrible by the way, Yeah, you're all horrible.
Uh So maybe that's the only way you can win
(23:18):
in court. But I'm getting my lawyers after him on
both sides.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
If anybody's making money off this damn thing, it's gonna
be us.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
I think I like my favorite weather the one I
sent you today after the Mets one. You know, they
crushed the Cubs. The Grimace era is back, and you
know I put up betweet about Grimace and how great
it was. And then the then someone did the he
has risen and it was like, what was it like
the last dinner? And then Grimace is standing above everybody
with a glove on, and the Mets at, Yeah, Grimace
(23:48):
has risen. He's back. Oh it was over. Grimace is god,
Grima's are is finished. Oh the grim is here. Hey,
it's back again. Yes, because the Mets one again, eleven
to one. Grimace era, it has it go anywhere? Do
you lose? It's it's baseball. It's not football. It's not
a this is baseball. You play every day. Man, you
only win so many games in a row before you
get an l And now now you start the Grimace
(24:09):
era back up again. It was a day to take
a break from the Grimace era. It was a day
for me to not eat McDonald's. Now the Mets won again,
at least get a cup of coffe, you know, Uh,
no not today. I didn't do it today. No, No,
I did not realize I have to. Well, it's still
only seven thirty, so I can't.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
Say you have play yeah an hour after the show
do uh oh No, No, I would.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
Wait for that, like like Pam has gone, like Zoe's
gone with their friends to go see Inside Out too,
uh for the second time. And I'm gonna call, hey, listen,
you bring some McDonald's back, like the Mets. You know,
I should get back on that because I want to
sweep the Cubs. So I let's get back on there.
At the very least, you know, give me some kind
of a mocha or something, you know.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
I mean, as much as we may argue and get
after each other for our teams failures and successes, one
thing we can agree on is everybody should beat the Cubs.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Yeah. That's if we can't come together on anything else,
we come together on beating the Cubs. Well.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
But I mean it's like sports is the great unifier.
Sports leads right, all the discussion that we had about
Rick Wood and everything yesterday, you know, as we talked
about Reggie Jackson, and we talked about you know, the
surviving members of the Negro League, those great interviews that
were being done, all of that, you know, sports is
(25:23):
a conduit to have bigger conversations. It's also where we
can decide to joint hate watch things like the Cubs.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
We'll have more baseball coming up because it is the
Grimace Era continuing. I mean, we're almost at the end
of week two of the Grimace Era. The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Carmon Lott from the Tireck dot Com studios.
But a day after JJ Reddick is announced as the
Lakers newest head coach, or that they will hire him
as their new head coach four year deal is coming,
The Athletic had a story today that Lakers owner Jeanie
(25:55):
Buss was quote genuinely disappointed that Danny Early did not
take the Lakers head coaching job. So, first of all,
you love the fact that the Lakers that you know,
I wonder like the Lakers in the Athletic are they
feuding because Hey, we got JJ Reddick. Next day, here's
the story you really wanted Danny Hurley was really upset
we didn't get Danny Riley and you're feeling happy, You're
(26:18):
feeling good. Hey, here's a story that just shows that
you really didn't want this guy that you wanted the
other guy who said no. So kind of weird. It
makes me think there's some kind of few like an
East coast West coast rap type feud that's going on.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
Also in the building, who's the rats? That's the bigger question,
that's the larger question. Who's talking to these guys out
of school here?
Speaker 1 (26:40):
I don't that's tough. You've got a very small circle
of people.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
That allegedly we're in on all of these conversations, right,
I don't know it when Genie and it was Palinka
and not very many other people involved in this process.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
So the fact that that would get out.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
To the athletic and not just hey, you know, the
theory is, you know she was really excited about, you know,
a guy with his acum No, no, no, it's it
really goes into detail that about the level of disappointment
and how this you know, change in direction is not
what she was looking for at all. So to get
(27:18):
into that level of depth to it not just kind
of a well then you know Hurley became the first choice. No, no, no,
this this is actually bigger. So in the house, you
got a rat and we gotta suss that out.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
All right, So it's either so it's either Polenka Genie
or Jay Moore. I mean, like that's why I know
those are the three, right if those of the other
one thing on it? Polenka, Jeanie or Jmore. Do they
have a private chef? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
Do they do they have you know, someone who's carrying
the bags.
Speaker 1 (27:44):
Or it's a chef. Excuse me, I'll be right back.
He goes outside. Hey, guess what, Genie's really mad they
didn't get this early. Guy gotta go back in. It's
time to serve Pata. I really thought you would have
gotten that joke.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
But we'll talk about that off air. But it's the
idea that you know you got you're just doing it.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
But I thought you're just doing what?
Speaker 2 (28:05):
Joe?
Speaker 1 (28:05):
What? What was it? What did I know?
Speaker 3 (28:07):
You know, they've got guys that you know, fancy themselves
cooks around, so that's all you know.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
So it's the idea that, oh, you met like a chef,
like too many chefs in the kitchen. I thought you
met like a real chef who was like, hey, i'll
give you some inside information. You're part of the inner.
I'm catering a luncheon. You know, yes, yes, yes, and no.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
But the idea that that you have a very small
group of people. And that's that was the big thing
about the Lakers, right, They're a mom and pop organization.
This is not Hey, we brought in a bunch of
consultants to that all of these guys and interview all
these guys and go through all these processes. No, it's
a small small group of people doing the search, the interviewing,
(28:50):
and the hiring. So out of that group, who's the rat? Wow?
All right, well you you know, I mean it's immediately
you know, dousing cold water on the imminent hiring an
eventual press conference with JJ Reddick.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
So who did it?
Speaker 3 (29:07):
Who's who's pissed? Behind the scenes? Man, It's Anthony Davison,
clutch Davis.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
It's Rich, Paul Sincerely, I'm not gonna tell you who
I am, but tell me what your name is. My
name is Paul Rich. Okay, Paul, what do you have
to say? Well, here's the thing. I really don't like.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
The bad I mean, I don't know that that just
strikes me, just as that headline.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
It's like, okay, well, look look there's a couple of
things here with with Genie Buss If she's you know,
genuinely upset, disappointed Danny Hurley is not the head coach
now where because you know where the blame is. And
she can be genuinely upset, but this is on her sure, Okay,
I always I'm a big fan of of of of
(29:49):
not being afraid to say, you know what, listen for
for a lot of us. Hey, I didn't see this coming.
I didn't know this was gonna happen. This was kind
of shocking. I didn't see this going like that happens
when you're the owner of a basketball team, when you're
a billionaire, when you're when you're making millions and billion
dollar decisions. No, that's your job to know how things
(30:09):
are gonna go right. So when something doesn't work out,
it's your fault, and it's it's it's Genie Buss and
the Lakers fault for two for two reasons. Number one,
if they had said right out of that, what did
we say? Their big mistake was not saying Danny Hurley,
we're gonna make you the highest paid coach in the NBA.
Wait what that That cuts through the clutter right the line.
They did give him a lot of mine. I'm not
(30:29):
saying they mad him a bad offer. They would have
made him the third highest paid coach in the NBA,
somewhere between third and six depends, right. But if you
come in and say, hey, we're giving you the most,
We're giving you more than Popovich, You're getting more than
Steve Kerr because we need you. That's what you needed
to do. That cuts through the clutter. That makes Danny
Hurley stand up and go, wow, I could be the
highest paid coach in the NBA and the highest paid
(30:50):
coach in NBA history. If something's going to change his mind,
that's gonna be it. And I don't know why they
didn't do it right. It doesn't matter all another twenty
million dollars, right, If you want him that bad and
you want an be around for a decade, it's worth it, right,
that's the guy you want. You should have gone higher
and just said we don't care if it doesn't look
great in the hierarchy. Understand that you're desperate. You are
the Lakers. I get. I get that you want to
(31:12):
walk around and say our brand is still great. No,
it's not. Because you couldn't get anybody else that you needed.
You couldn't. You got a tough time grabbing free agents
people coming to play with Lebron the last few years.
So you need to understand how desperate you are. So
that's the first thing I would say is that you
should have come in with a with a better number.
I know that you came in with a great number.
It's competitive, but you want the guy you want. Talking
(31:33):
about this guy who doesn't want to leave Connecticut has
to leave to come to the Lakers, and you make
of it, and what does he say? What did he
say after? Well, if they had maybe a godfather offer,
I might have I might have taken it. That's that's
an offer you can't refuse. You are the highest paid
coach in the NBA, despite the fact you have not
coached a game. We don't care who that upsets, but
we need a guy. You're our guy. That's they needed
(31:53):
to do. So that's the first thing I would tell you.
That's on the Lakers. Yeah, we will have more on
this coming up in a bit because we're just diving
into this big topic. But right now, a guy who
demanded to be the highest paid update anchor at Fox
Sports Radio held out, and he got it, and Steve
de Sager with held out.
Speaker 6 (32:12):
I have no idea what you're talking about that just
a couple.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Of nights where they said to me, hey, ty Shirt's
got to do updates because the Sager's not coming in.
He wants more money.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
Yeah, okay, yeah, and who do we negotiate pay with?
Speaker 1 (32:23):
There's pay with this John, Dude. You should have seen
those Tight Shirt updates. Man, it was all about what's
going on in anime and and and oh yeah yeah.
Speaker 6 (32:31):
I believe it wasn't the regular music bed either. It
was just Tears for Fears every two And.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
There were no scores. There were It was just him
naming teams that he knows.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
There were uprices like on King ones.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
There were scores.
Speaker 6 (32:44):
It was more like Cincinnati five, that kind of thing.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
We'll get to the Lakers. I've heard of them the
next I've heard of them too. Jason and Mike talk
about them, and there's your update.
Speaker 6 (32:57):
Okay, there you will get to the hockey. It's Edmondson
up three and the third. Right now, you were talking
about the WNBA All Star Game that is the sendoff
for the US Olympic Women's team this year, the game
July twentieth in Phoenix.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
And then what a great idea, what a great idea,
great idea.
Speaker 6 (33:14):
And second, they are going to play a game in
London on FS one tune up game for Team USA
women against Germany just a few days later. And when
they finally get to the actual Olympic Games in France,
one of them is USA against Belgium, and the US
had a qualifying game at Belgium earlier this year that
(33:34):
the Americans only won eighty one seventy nine. I looked
it up, thinking that maybe we're playing subs or something. No,
Diana Tarassi was zero for four from the floor in
that game. This year, Kelsey Plumb two of nine off
the bench, et cetera. To the WNBA and a very
strange experience. Tonight, Atlanta moved its home game from a
(33:55):
place that seats three thousand, five hundred to a place
that seats over seventeen thousand, five hundred. So appropriate for
the very strange experience. It was the Fever Dream Game. Yeah, nicely,
Ari Hada Fever winners at the Atlanta Dream ninety one
to seventy nine, Caitlin Clark sixteen points, seven assists, and
(34:17):
seven turnovers. Now let's get to the hockey. We have
eight minutes to go in game six to the Stanley
Cup Final. Edmonton's three nine in lead is now three
to one over Florida. The Florida Panthers led this series
three games to none and have not led in a
game since. If there's a Game seven of the series,
it would be at Florida on Monday. Florida Panthers have
never won the Cup. The franchise started in nineteen ninety three,
(34:41):
it lost the final with the plastic rats being thrown
on the ice. In nineteen ninety six, it lost the
final last year. We haven't had a team lose the
Cup Final in back to back season since Boston in
nineteen seventy seven and seventy eight, both against Montreal. The
Atlanta Falcons signed first round quarterback Michael Pennix. Oklahoma Sooners
football co Brent Venables agreed to a new six year contract.
(35:03):
In Copa America, we had forty three thousand on hand
for a scoreless Chile versus Peru game on FS one tonight,
thirty seven fouls in that game at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium.
France tied Netherlands today overseas zero zero is killing Embape
with a broken nose. Did not play MLB Mets beat
the Cubs today eleven to one, Atlanta whip the Yankees
(35:25):
tonight eight one, and Arizona one at Philadelphia five to four.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
Back to you, thanks a bunch, STEVEO. The Jason Smith
Show with My best friend Mike Harmon Coming up next.
We have a story out of the NFL that might
explain why one quarterback as great as he is in
the regular season can't win in the playoffs. And that
story came out today and I said, well, this might
explain it. Look out for backups. We'll tell you next
(35:50):
Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

And about four minutes to go in the third period,
Edmonton looking to send the Stanley Cup Final back to
Florida for Game seven. More on this than a few minutes.

been the narrative around Lamar Jackson? As great a talent
as he is, two time MVP, but boy, look what
happens in the playoffs?
Speaker 3 (36:56):
Right?
Speaker 1 (36:56):
He can't win in the playoffs. If Ravens can't figure
it out, they've lost all kinds of games, all different
ways in the playoffs with Lamar Jackson. The last few.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
Years, offensive coordinators suddenly decided to run the ball sixty
nice when you're run gaming, you know, with the multi
pronged approach including Lamar Jackson, has been your bread and butter.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
But it's the playoffs. Let's do something new.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
It's a new identity forged in that week off.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
But you know, you know, reading reading stuff going on
today in the NFL, and I saw that a big
story coming out of Baltimore was that this year the
Ravens really want to see this big change from Lamar Jackson.
I'm like, Okay, is this clickbait? Is this not? But
you know what, like one big change, the one the
(37:43):
one thing a gut doctor says you shouldn't eat no
matter what, right, like you know all kinds you know,
to think.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
You've been looking those things up again.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
No, No, that's been in my feed for so long,
and one time I clicked on it just to see
what the gut doctor would say, and after like a
minute of scrolling, I'm like, what am I doing? One
am my Like, of course, I'm not going to tell
me what this is.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
I think a bunch of that was based on conversations
we've had in studio with Ty Shirt to get mocky
respective diets and.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Have this, don't have it doesn't matter. But let me
let me just say this when I read the story
that the Steelers want Lamar Jackson to feel free to
audible at the line of scrimmage, have complete freedom audible,
all right, And they feel like that hurt them in
the playoff game last year when they lost the Chiefs,
(38:30):
because the Chiefs were able to get to Lamar Jackson
and they knew what they knew what they wanted to
do defensively and that would have really helped. And I
saw that and I sat back and I said, wait
a minute, Wait a minute, Wait a minute. Lamar Jackson
doesn't have the freedom to audible. It has not a
he's not a rookie. And I'm like, wait a minute.
I remember him saying. I'm like, wait a minute. I
(38:51):
remember him saying a couple of years ago that he
loved the offense because he felt he could audible. And
I went and I looked. I said, yeah, a couple
of years ago, at the beginning of the new offense,
you know, beginning of last year, it was yeah, you know,
and Lamar Jackson feels great, you know, being able to
audible in the offense, everything feels he feels really good.
It's it's the next part of his development. Okay, great,
(39:12):
But now did they take it away from him, like
I mean, I mean, just it was a specific part
of the story that they felt that hey, if they
had been able to audible out of of certain plays
Lamar saw different things, they might have been able to win.
And I'm saying to myself, how the hell does a
guy who's won the MVP two times or how does
he he doesn't have the ability to audible. I get
(39:33):
that you don't want Zach Wilson to audible. I completely
understand that. I get you don't want Daniel Jones to
audible whoever else you want. But this is a guy
that's proven at the highest level of the NFL that
he has succeeded, and he didn't have the the the okay,
the green light to audible out of plays if he
sees something. Are you kidding me? Now? I know why
the Ravens can't win. You know, no, Lamar Jackson to audible.
(39:56):
I mean I was blown away by that.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
Yeah, I'm still kind of flabbergasted by the whole thing.
I guess it might explain away some of the you know,
slow developing plays, decision making, whatever, because you had to
go in And what did Brady talk about? He was
on with Colin the other day and it's gotten a
lot of run right about as much as the run
(40:21):
for you know, the hard work and you know, dedication
to craft. But he talked about it, you know, knowing
you were going to the line of scrimmage with a
play that you were gonna win with, right that it
wasn't a all right, Oh, had to give up play
because they're in the right defense. So I mean, for
Lamar Jackson, how many times did he walk up to
the line of scrimmage knowing that they were running a
(40:44):
play run or pass that had a very little shot
of succeeding No matter how pinpoint accurate he was right.
It informs a lot of things, and I think that
Brady commentary probably changes the way a lot of folks
are going to be viewing quarterback play in evaluating it
over the next well forever more, or maybe going back
(41:06):
in hindsight, going you know, that quarterback really wasn't as
bad as I thought. What the hell was his offensive corner?
Speaker 1 (41:11):
Oh? That guy he sucked. I tell you, his whole
place sucks.
Speaker 3 (41:16):
Didn't give him any kind of opportunity to audible into
something that he actually liked.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
It sucks. That's right, he sucks. I remember I could
bob like, oh my god, really he doesn't have the power. Well,
now you know why the Ravens can't win. Coming up next,
we have not won but two big time NBA trade
rumors to break down. This is Fox Sports Radio
