Speaker 1 (01:12):
The Knicks plan Mike Harmon to get every single player
who ever did anything good for the Villanova Wildcats is
clearly rocking and rolling. You heard the message from Brian
Fenley just a couple moments ago. A trade that is
shaking the NBA right now on the eve of the draft.
For some reason, I never thought they would. Why would
(01:32):
the Nets trade with the Knicks, But they do. Mikal
Bridges goes to the Knicks in exchange for Boy and Bogdanovich,
four unprotected first round picks, a protected first round pick
from the Bucks, a pick swap, and a second round
or so. Basically, it's Michal Bridges to the Knicks and
the Knicks are giving up a thousand draft picks, which
(01:52):
they have accumulated. This is what they did, is what
first round picks are for. And another incredibly talented Villanova
Wildcat comes to the New There's no room for anybody else. Like,
if you didn't go to Villanova, you are off the team.
Ojiannonoby gone, Julius Randall, Gott you go to Villanova, you're
on the Knicks.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
You're not going to Villanova.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
You're not a Nick I'm sorry, And if something happened
with Tibbs, Jay Wright comes in to coach the team.
It is all set to go. We are going to
the finals next year.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Go New York, Go New York Coat, Go New York,
Go New York Coat.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
I gotta say this, it's really a nice feather in
the cap for Tom Thibodeau to be able to see say,
these are the guys I can coach. They buy into
the crap I'm selling on both ends of the court.
Can't be more of them, and the front office saying,
you know what, Tom, okay, let's do that.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
But look, he knows what works, right. You know, these
are the guys that.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Are going to work in my system. I know the
guys are gonna work. We need we need certain guards
that can do certain things. You need guys that can
play two ways. You need wings that can defend. And
I don't think it's any coincidence on the day that
Ogianonoby says, Hey, I'm gonna opt out to get a
new deal. We're training for mckael Bridges. Wait wait, wait,
so is there money for me? I don't know what
does that mean that is there money for me? Or
(03:06):
is there no money for me. I don't understand, like
what what like, like, am I staying?
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Am I going?
Speaker 5 (03:11):
Like?
Speaker 3 (03:12):
What are we doing? What's happening here? I don't understand.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Yeah, I mean, look, you can't make the omelet without
breaking a few eggs. So some of the members of
the family are gonna have to be uh shuffled off.
I mean that's part of the theme of tonight of
some of the stories going on. Hey, you gotta make choices.
You gotta make some difficult choices as it goes along. Uh,
And to to add talent, you've got to decide what
the pecking order is, what's the level of importance. It's
(03:36):
what we've been talking about this entire time with the
Lakers and making the coaching decisions, but also what you're
looking at with Lebron James short term, long term, what
are the plans, goals, expectations, et cetera for your Nicks.
I mean, you're only gonna get so many years before
these guys break down. We've seen it. I mean, because
like when Dusty Baker was managing the Cubs, I mean,
(03:57):
eventually those arms are falling off.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
When we're in a two year window, we're in a
two year window now because you know, eventually we got
to pay Brunson. We just ate Evencenzo, we paid hard.
It's it's fine, Everything is fine. Well, I understand this
is what we have to do, and we're good. But
on the other side of it is okay. Now we've
opened up a two year window where we can now
end up really not not just next year, but the
year after saying this is this is not just it
(04:21):
was opened a crack.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
We've opened that window all the way.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Man, Like, hey, let the day in, open up that window,
put your head out, breathe in the new day, in
the fresh air, and go.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
Oh, it's gonna be a great day. Like you're the
man with the yellow hat.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Well he started to oh it's gonna be a great day, George,
Oh what a great day.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
I really thought you were going to reference the call
let the day begin, Let the day begin? What the
day Mike, The way he set it up at the
beginning of all this, I really thought he was gonna
praise on Tani for another hit. He's kind of a
big nail. My team stinks. But we'll get to that,
and there's plenty of time to mock that and plenty
of time for your team to blow your game anyway,
(04:57):
Bridges has what two years left? Right?
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (05:01):
For your ninety million dollar deal, you all can do
the fuzzy math in today's day and age, that's nothing
for a guy that's gonna come in and contribute as anticipated.
So yeah, it's if you can give up a bunch
of draft picks. You know, I chuckle at it, all right,
but because most teams don't know what to do with them,
(05:22):
which is why I love it when teams amass them
and then all of a sudden look around and go,
you know, we actually need players that can play, Guys
that have been there, done that, and we're ready to compete. Now,
can we convince some other team that not only are
they hopeless, but that they're gonna get it right with
their front opposite coaching staff. Oh wait, let's call the Nets.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Well, look, here's why this is a great trade, right,
it's a great the Nets. Obviously they had to do it.
They're terrible, they're starting over, and Bridges was their number
one piece that they could move. There was a lot
of interest in him around the league, and that's why
the Knicks had to give up basically six first round
picks to go get him. But this is what you do.
How good are the Knicks? First round picks gonna be
(06:04):
their picks? That's why teams like them so they can
move them. Some teams love taking the picks. Some teams
having the picks so they can deal them.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
Yeah, and some teams don't sit long enough at the
negotiating tambla on the phone to actually get a pick
when they're making a trade that they should get at
least one or two.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Well, okay, okay, I'm sorry about that. I am sorry
about that, buddy.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
He triggered me.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Sorry about that.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
But look, but this is a trade where you get Bridges,
who's twenty seven and he's terrific offensive player.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Did I what did I tell you? From the beginning?
The Knicks can't.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
They can't kid themselves into thinking we're gonna go into
next year with the same kind of offense.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
They don't. You can't.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
You hit a moment with Heart and Devincenzo in the
playoffs where everybody was hurt and these guys would score
thirty every other game. That's just not gonna happen, right,
That was a moment where for a month they sucked
it up and you got everything you could out of them.
I told you the Knicks needed another scorer, right, But
what does Tom Thibodau like. I don't want a guy
that can just score. I want a guy that's gonna
be able to play well defensively. And while he has
(07:03):
been a great defensive player, he wasn't great last year.
You've heard a lot out of Brooklyn Boy. Bridges isn't
quite the same guy. Maybe he was playing a little
bit out of position, maybe he was just trying to
carry little do a little bit too much. But he
has been a really good defensive player for his career.
I'll take the one year step back on a bad
team when suddenly you're thrown into Tom Thibodeau's team and
now you have a two way player who was going
(07:24):
to score and is gonna be able to play great defense.
He is going to fit in. It's gonna be like
when Annanobe came in. He fits right in, and all
of a sudden, the Knicks are the best defensive team
in the NBA. Bridge is gonna fit right in, and
that's the level the Knicks are going to be at.
And now they've opened up a two year window. You
can sign guys. You can still trade if you need
to make a move, but you have turned this team
into an absolute juggernaut of two way players that can
(07:46):
score and can play defense. And I'm ready, man. I
told you Nicks are going to the Final. I gave
you my Knicks of the Finals three days ago. Why
because I said, the Knicks and the Thunder right whom
I pick Nicks in the Thunder because I said, they're
the two teams that are already big time contenders, that
have the maneuverability with draft picks and money to make
the adjustments they need. Right, and Oklahoma City needs a
(08:08):
big and they probably could. They already made one big
move right, already got Caruso, who could be in over
the top kind of piece. Former you know, two time
defensive All Defensive Team. He's a guy that can put
him over the top. Okay, so that was their first move.
The Knicks do the same thing. When you have the
picks and you have the money, you can make whatever
moves you need. And that's why I like both of
these teams because clearly, if you're gonna get up over
(08:29):
the Celtics or get up over the the the t Wolves,
Nuggets Slash Mavericks in the West. You need to make
sure you get better, and both of these teams have
done it in the last couple of days. I feel
like I motivated both of them. I feel like I
should if they both go because I picked both them.
And who've made the two biggest trades so far, Nix
and the Thunder Like like like we're doing we're influencing
(08:49):
things here, Mike. Maybe if you talked a little louder,
the Bulls could have got an extra first round pick.
Maybe they could have got a little something else in
the trade. But maybe the next deal it won't be
so bad.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
I did a lot of screaming about the Bulls and
they're ineptitude long before you know that was even an idea,
uh to make a deal with Okay, see, but it's
it's that fun part of the year, right this, this
part of the calendar, with a lot of movement expected,
a lot of big names expected to be on the
(09:17):
move free agency, and certainly a lot of dollars out there.
The draft is kind of just a necessary thing in
the middle of all of it, and I feel bad
for the guys that are going to be top picks.
Because at that at this point, it's there. There's a
lot of introductory press conferences where it's gonna be can
you pronounce your name for me? And it's like, no, no,
(09:40):
you watch me. My last name's Castle. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
we did watch you, uh and and things of that nature.
And and I don't mean that, you know, in any
way against the international players. It's just a it's not
a draft where the the average fan knows what's coming
on board, which means all the other movements around it
(10:01):
has that much more weight. Where's brandon ingram end Up?
Speaker 3 (10:04):
What do the Lakers do?
Speaker 4 (10:05):
Did they get a third star?
Speaker 3 (10:07):
What are the Hawks do?
Speaker 4 (10:07):
Are they trading the pick to San Antonio where they're
the number one overall? I mean, all of those things
are fascinating, and then you got the whole Ronnie James
things behind it. But yeah, your Nicks and Thunder out
of the gate make a couple of very big moves.
And again it's a short window, and that's what I
appreciate for it. It's not the Hey, we're building long
(10:31):
long term, so let's keep all these draft picks and
hope we get them all right to where it coalesces.
You know, trust the process. Hey, that guy's hurt, he
ain't gonna play this year. Okay, Cool, we're gonna get
another no more pick. Hey, that guy's hurt, he ain't
gonna play this year. Cool, we're gonna get a number
one pick again. Eventually, you guys are all gonna be
on the court together, right, Sure, so you know when
you look at okay, see and obviously they've got something
(10:53):
cooking there and a ton of draft picks, and now
we'll see what pressed he can do with it for
the Knicks to be able to look at it and say,
all right, bring this guy in with two years left
on his deal. We know Brunson was at the time,
everybody thought he was overpaid. More apologies to him than
any player in sports history about contracts and everything else.
(11:13):
I've never seen media genua fleck to a guy like
that over a contract in an opinion, which is absurd. Hey,
you didn't like the deal, that's okay. He went and
proved you're wrong. You could just say, hey, you know what, cool,
good for him and move forward. But eventually you got
to pay the piper again. And let's face it, the
(11:33):
way Thibodeau and company play you've got a short window
with these guys playing at a breakneck pace for eighty
two games plus however many in a postseason, so you've
got to maximize your returns. And draft picks don't matter
in this kind of scenario.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
No, they never matter unless you have the number one
pick or the one and two pick in an era
where you're hey, Wemby's coming out or Caitlin Clark is
coming out or somebody else. Unless you have one of
those picks, it's a it's it's such a dice roll.
It's not it's not the NFL, it's not anything. It's hey,
if you're picking the NFL. Yeah, but at least you
(12:11):
know you have you have a lot of talent that
has been proven over the course of their collegiate careers,
where you can you can form a great opinion about
a guy because he's played at least three years in college.
In the NBA, it's like you get guy coming off
the bench, you know, he's played eight minutes again, Brownie, Oh,
and suddenly, hey, well what's he gonna do.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
We gotta take him. We don't know. But the first
round picks, Yeah, I'm okay with I'm okay move as
many as you need to, as long as it's not
the number one pick and Wenby is coming out.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Yeah, you can trade that. You could trade those first
round picks. It's absolutely fine. Yeah, Jason.
Speaker 4 (12:41):
The old joke, remember the Simpsons episode Bart does his
cartoon and he he makes a deal with the company
and they give him stock in exchange, and on the
end they're like, hey, take as much stock as you
want on the way out. That's kind of that's kind
of draft picks at this point. You need one more, Hey,
take one more, go ahead. What do we care if
we're any good? They're all at the back end of
(13:01):
the first round anyway.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
So there it is.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
The New York Knicks trade up to five first round
picks for Michel Bridges from the nets, and now they're
going to the finals next year.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
It was a great run.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
Boston. Congratulations on your championship. It's awesome. It's over. I
hope you enjoined.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
How many people jump on the knickspan over man, plenty.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
Of room, I got pa. I've been driving.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
I've been driving this thing like Sandra Bullockin' speed, and
I got room for anybody who wants to come on.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
Usually people were getting off that bus.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
Okay, so bad analogy, But I'm still driving the hell
out of that bus. Man, Get get on, I got
the big wheels, I'm turning. I'm waving to the kids
at the corner. Hey, how you doing? Go New York, Go,
New York.
Speaker 5 (13:36):
Go.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Plenty of room and in the entire time, you got
blinders and you're driving like the guy that drives the
ghost bus.
Speaker 1 (13:43):

Speaker 1 (15:21):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
Everything coming up Smith right now? The next trade for
Michal Bridges, the Mets.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Beat the Yankees Game one of the.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
Subway Series, Mets Smith's Nicks Nicks, Metts, Smith's Nicks Knicks,
Matt It's all. It's coming up Smith, Mike Harmon, It's
all coming up Smith' right.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
It really is good for you right now. And obviously
you're we're keeping an eye on the the aftershock of
the Knicks deal. Look the the Yankees Mets thing. You
can litigate with your friends and family. Uh, you know,
call Walt. We can get Walt on the on the
air to see what his reaction is live to the action. No,
(16:02):
he's he's on the Matt Locke. Yeah, I don't find
the evil culprit. No, just really quit.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
What one big thing from this Yankees Mets game is
I'm gonna give you a Big Bowl prediction right here.
Glaber Torres has just played his last game as a Yankee.
He has just played his last game as a Yankee.
He has not had a great season, and you just
watched on a grounder that he could in a gate.
Aaron Judge hits a grand slam in the eighth inning
because for some reason, Reed Garrett goes oh and two
(16:30):
on him and throws a fast ball down the middle,
gives up a grand slam. How do you give up
a man on oh and two? How do you throw
an oh and two pitch? Give up a ground how
do you do that? How do you do that?
Speaker 4 (16:40):
I don't understand, but hey, he Judge thought he would
waste one, so he gets sneak one past him.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
I mean, Judge hits a grand Slam and it's what
the hell?
Speaker 5 (16:51):
Man?
Speaker 3 (16:51):
It makes it nine to seven.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
And then Glibra Torres comes up and he hits a
ground ball to Francisco Lindor, and on the grounder, I'm
saying to myself, what is lind We're doing? It's a
slow grounder, like he's got to come up and grab
that and throw on the run. I'm like, what the
hell is he doing? He's gonna what the hell? And
then I see he makes the throw and Taurus is
out by ten feet. I go, oh, Torres must have
fallen down. He must have he must have something had
(17:16):
because there's no reason. Now now I get why I'm
watching Lindor just to ease.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Up to the ball.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
And then they show the replay and it's just Torres
just lollygagging all the way down the first baseline. And
you know, that's one of those things where Subway series. Judge,
it's a Grand Slam all the momentum. You can't run
out a ground ball. That's your ticket out of town.
I mean, he had an ok year last year. I
mean he's a fifteen and seventy guy at two seventy.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
But this year has been terrible and and something like that.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
That's the last straw, and so I wouldn't be surprised
he played his last game. And it's either a DFA
or a trade, and that's gonna happen soon, because you
could do that if you're playing the Twins on a
Tuesday night and no one's paying attention. You can't do
that on national TV against the Mets when you are
faltering and here's the other New York team that beats you,
and you had a chance to come back. You had
(18:05):
a home run from your best player, and suddenly, oh
you can't beat out it. You can't run out of
groundball that you would have probably beaten out. Yeah, that's
his last.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
Game as the Inch.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
Actually, it is kind of a curiosity, right, is that
it was a national game that hopefully everybody got the
memo that you didn't have to go chase it down
on the MLB package whever. I guess maybe I should
be more in tune with TBS Tuesday Night Baseball I
was sucked into soccer to know that off the top,
(18:33):
and then I went to find said soccer on FS one.
I was like, ohh, I got baseball and I could
watch Aaron Judge perhaps bring the Yankees back. So yes,
I saw the home run and then watched the subsequent
play tour. You know, for Glabra Torres, it's been one
of those keep waiting for him to be a superstar
kind of things like that. They've been trying to make
(18:54):
that happen forever, Like you and I don't know, cure
is George impressions on National Radio.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
You know, we really hit on something with meeting with
my Curious Georgia.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
You know, it's kind of a big deal, like what
does Curious George think about the Michel Bridges trade?
Speaker 4 (19:10):
You know, and now I brought it back, and now
I hate myself because Frostburg and I were communicating a
number of things earlier in the day through well curious georgisms.
But you know, your guy, you know, with Bridges can
now coming to the Knicks. You know, once we get
into this new new calendar and everything's finalized and all
(19:32):
of that fun stuff, there's a lot of social media
going down first off, bet MGM, the odds for the
Knicks to win the title have gone from seventeen to
one to nine to one.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
No, that's how big it is, man, I'm telling you.
It's a waste of a dollar.
Speaker 4 (19:48):
Oh stop, stop, literally a waste of a dollar.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
Dude.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
We are loaded, man, the Knicks are usually they're just
all right. That's a different content.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
Even beat the Pacers, Dude, it doesn't mean everybody. He
was hurt.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
And now we just added extra guy who's probably and
hopefully not gonna.
Speaker 7 (20:03):
Be another three.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
Oh top with that, I still am going to see that.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
A Hey, that's Canadian Olympic hopeful. But anyway, Josh Hart yo,
we blank and lit yep, and they he's saying, hey,
call me Jalen Brunson O mg And then the one
I said prosper, which was really the key to all
of it from at BAM. One of one y'all was tampering,
(20:34):
and as we've seen tampering in any of this stuff,
everybody kind of shrugs and moves on, Yeah, okay.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
Is it worth it?
Speaker 5 (20:41):
Well?
Speaker 4 (20:41):
Okay, well, I mean go back to the Atlanta Falcons. Wait,
we got how many guys?
Speaker 3 (20:46):
He said?
Speaker 4 (20:46):
We tampered with all of our free agents. That's what
three four eight guys, two hundred and fifty k and
a fifth rount pick. How are y'all feeling?
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Let's go, we just traded five first round picks. You
want other two hundred grand? Sure, we'll give it to you.
That's fun, Like that's gonna.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
Be something to start counting it out. Nickels, Oh, okay.
Speaker 4 (21:05):
That's obviously different sports. But let's face it, you're more
likely to see something of substance from the NFL than
you ever will from Adam Silver in his office, you know, anytime,
especially if the Knicks are involved.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Anytime I see this, I always think of that famous
Ross Parole line when he was running for press was
it ninety two when he ran as a third party Canada?
Oh yeah, yeah yeah, When they asked him during the
debate what it makes, like how much how much money
do you have? Do you know he's a billionaire And
he goes, oh, a couple million dollars And they said wait,
what like people are looking there. Wait, we thought you
(21:39):
were worth X amount of money. He goes, oh, I
thought you meant how much money did I have on me?
Speaker 5 (21:47):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (21:47):
You want here's two hundred and fifty grand. Yeah there
you go.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
Okay, that's great, literally shaking it out the bottom of
his boot.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
Yeah, oh you know, or or I think of the wire.
When Cuddy goes into Avon and he's getting all all
worked up. He wants to ask him for ten thousand
dollars to start a gym, and he's got all this going,
you owe me this, I helped you, I did this,
I did this. I need ten thousand dollars a really
big deal. And he goes, I think you owe me
that money.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
I need that. I need ten thousand dollars. All that
I've done for you, I need it.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
And Avon goes, oh shit, you want ten thousand dollars,
and he turns a wee bit. He goes, give him
twenty thousand dollars. Give the guy and he was post
twenty grand off the back wall. Hand it to him,
the ego man, thanks for everything, all right, cool, good
luck with the jim. Oh you had ten, that's Give
the guy twenty thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Give the guy.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Oh, oh really, you're gonna you're gonna you're gonna find
me for tampering because because Josh Hard is wearing a
Villanova's sweatshirt and pictures with all of them on it. Yeah, okay,
that's fine, that's great. Yeah, tamper me. I'll tamper me
all the way in to the NBA Finals. Tamp me
all the way.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
Go New York, Go New York. Coat, go New York,
Go New York.
Speaker 4 (22:48):
Goat family.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
It's exciting. Now we will have more on the Knicks because.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
Wait, wait, wag, I gotta I gotta ask one last question. Yeah, yah, sure, sure,
buddy going to the finals or Hartenstein? Which guy gets
excommunicated from the family.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
Oh no, no, no, it's it's gonna it's gonna be
o g. He's gonna be worth too too much money.
I mean they guys, they're talking for a year plus.
They like I said, from it.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
I don't think there's any coincidence that on the day
that anunobe opts out, the Knicks make the trade for bridges.
I mean, yes, you can say they operate in a
vacuum and oh well yeah this was, But I don't
think he's gonna opt out.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
We're making the trade for bridges, Dude, I got doubt
that's That's.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
Like saying you took a coaching job in a big
city and a big market team without ever talking to
the superstar about it. Come on, that says, don't happen.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
No, I it's you know, look and here's the thing,
and I'll be honest with you here, right, Okay, Well, well,
well we'll get to the coaching change in a minute.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
Is that when and be opted out today?
Speaker 5 (23:46):
Right?
Speaker 3 (23:46):
That was the big news earlier in the day.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
He had one more year at nineteen million left, and
clearly his stock rose because the Knicks did become the
best defensive team in the NBA when he showed up.
He was exactly what the Knicks need, a three and
D guy, perfect fit. And there's a reason why. Immediately
when they got him, the Knicks went from hey, they're
a pretty good team, middle of the pack.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
Maybe they win a first round, maybe they don't.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
Yeah, I don't know, to suddenly, hey, this is a
team that can go all the way right automatically. You
saw that, you saw that change. But when I saw
him opting out and I saw the money it was
gonna be, I said, you know what, you have to
let him go. You gotta let him go. I get it.
I get that how important he was and how good
the team was. But you have to let him go,
not because he's not worth it, but because the guy
(24:27):
can't stay healthy. And this is a five year thing now.
He missed the championship with the Raptors. He couldn't stay healthy.
He can't stay healthy. He got hurt when the Knicks
needed in the most. He got hurt right after they
got him after the deadline. As great a peace as
he was, and as great as it was to slot
him right in because there was no adjustment period. The
Knicks need to do this. That was a great thing, right,
That's not something you normally get. Sometimes a guy needs
(24:49):
a little bit of time to get it. And he
slipped right in. But he already has gotten hurt twice
when the Knicks needed him the most, especially in the playoffs.
You can't give a guy that guy money. I watched
the Mets do this with and I said, what can
you do? The guy absolutely carried the Mets to the
World Series. Are you really not going to pay him?
And then I watched it was one hundred million dollars
if they just flushed down the drain.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Because don't do it, rot do it right. But it's like,
but what could you do right what you just got?
You to the world.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
This guy's bounce it all over the place.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
No, look at.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
What he did, Look at what he did. How could
you not give it to him? But I watched the
Mets do it, and I watched them for four years.
Sit there and go this just killed us, Like you can't.
He's you know, Anaonobe is twenty seven years old and
in five years he hasn't stayed healthy. You can't give
a guy like that money because you can't judge when
he's going to be able to be healthy. You know,
It's like it's like being you know, look, the Pelicans
(25:39):
are locked in for Zion and it's well, maybe he's
gonna be healthy for us, maybe he's not. So I
I completely understand this. So I'm ready to come on
here tonight with the Anoonobe things saying hey let him go,
go get somebody else, you know, sign Hartenstein and and
try to go. And now all of a sudden, it's no, no, no,
we are raising the level by going to get Michel Bridges,
who was another guy that's going to fit right in.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
And not only that, the chemistry on this team is
gonna be off the hook.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
I mean, hopefully they're inclusive, because you know, the non
Villanova players will be all be allowed in to do
things like they're all they're all playing video games by themselves.
Nobody else is allowed in. But I mean, this is
a team that now you can see the fun they're
gonna have. They already have playing with each other.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
It's a thing.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
Now Thibodeau has become a coach that that has gone
from well after two years, he wears out his welcome
to this guy could coach in New York for a decade.
Like like, he's got the buy and he's got the
buy in from the players, he's got the he's got the.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Stars he needs.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
This was an over the top bold move saying we
are gonna go win the championship next year and they're
gonna go do it.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
And congratulations to the Celtics. It's great they had a run.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
Congratulations to Andrew Denbard made a three he's never gonna
make again in his life.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
That's awesome. He got to the East finals.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
That was fantastic. And then you guys threw up on yourself. Awesome, great, great,
you that's over man, How much sleep if you lost
over that three points? That's oh my god, man, I'll
be honest with you, that's a tough one to get over. Man,
that's a tough one to get over. That really is
of anything else that is a tough one.
Speaker 5 (26:58):
To get to.
Speaker 3 (26:59):
That was a double You had a time out in
New York. That is true.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
Forgot about the double bang and time out. I mean,
that's that's next level stuff right when we're talking about
second act. But it's it'll be interesting to see how
the rest of this this roster takes shape because you
got to make the hard financial decisions right.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
With the the new.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
Levels that we we've got to work at, you know,
the fictional salary cap and now we've got level one,
level two and aprons. Yes, aprons comes to sports, uh
in terms of talking about the the salaries, uh and processing.
But you know, for tonight you get to a little
victory lap, maybe extra sauce on your big Mac, maybe
(27:45):
just a little bit more because it worked out for
you today. Well, no games are being played, that's true,
and hey, my teams always do great in the office
and you're and you're losing at least one glue guy
we own the off season. No, but look, but this
is the thing and this is remember og Andobe. As
much as you love Jalen Brunson, I mean you were
about ready to get a uh you know, a calf
(28:08):
tattoo or maybe a tramp stamp of Ogan Andobe. You
loved him so much.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Look, look he was great. But then look what happened.
He got hurt when they need him the most, he
got hurt. I get it. I get doing this. And look,
maybe there's still money there.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
Maybe they make a crazy decision and they decide, hey,
we're gonna go get Anunobi and he's the.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
Priority, but we're getting rid of everybody else.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
So good because that's the thing, and that's what. That's
what what what you have to understand about. Beast moves right.
These two trades we've seen so far, they've taken up
a lot of attention in the NBA. The the Alex
Caruso trade to the Thunder and now the Bridge's trade
to the Knicks. It's not about just getting guys right,
you see teams as well. Here's the stars that are
out there. Let's bring him in and let's see let's
see what can make it work.
Speaker 5 (28:47):
Right.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Yeah, you see that sometimes that works. It worked with
the Celtics. We just have all the talent we need.
We'll make it all work together. But when you can
move and say this is the guy we gotta go
get because he fits what we do and we're all
ready pretty good, I mean that that's like making two
great trades. Right, Hey, Caruso, what do we need? We
need some outside shooting, we need more. We need another
guard who can defend it, can defend out on the wing.
(29:10):
And the Thunder get that man. They're gonna be impossible
to beat next year. We talk about the t Wolves
and their defensive system, yet great Thunder are the same thing.
They didn't just go get a guy. They went out
and got somebody who was an over the top kind
of player. The same thing the Knicks. They just get
a guy saying, hey, this is a scorer who we're
gonna fit into the system. Like you look at anybody's
in any offseason wish list for the Knicks, Bridges name
(29:33):
was near the top, but it was are the Nets
really gonna trade with the Knicks? I mean, but they
did it because the Knicks probably came over the top
with one or two more first round picks than anybody
else was offering.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
So it's like, okay, we're gonna make this deal.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Like they go out and get a guy that's hey,
we need a score and we need a guy that
can defend well. And we got it, and there's not
gonna be any assimilation time, and the Knicks are gonna
hit the ground running. I'm thinking already, Nicks're gonna be
the number one seed in the East next year, going on.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
In the playoffs. Come on, that's how good they're gonna be.
I can't remember they were number two last year?
Speaker 5 (30:02):
Right?
Speaker 1 (30:02):
There were number two seed last year? Yes, but you
know that Celtics did win the division. Hey, Cottage by
like fifteen games.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
But you also Haltics says, well, you also got Doc
the air of the Celtics. But we got Doc again.
Doc still has a job. He still has the job.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
Man, Hey, man, that's a job. That top seat at
ESPN is open right now.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
Jason, guess what else you got? Hey, I like to
go back. I wouldn't mind call. I could do both.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
I could Hey, I know, Godleeb's doing both. He's doing
a show. He's coaching a team. I could do a show.
I could do the games. I can coach my team.
I could do everything I could do. I could do
it on doc rivers, and no matter what happens, it's
not my fault. Just like that's where it is. Just
don't blame me, and I'll do both jobs.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
I can do it both. It's awesome.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
Yeah, you're gonna hate me for the tweet I just
said out because you're you're getting hopeful again. And we
played the Taylor swift repeatedly in the past. This is
why we can't have nice things.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
So that said, how about a frescait swollen down the
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
If you're still my best friend, Mike Harmon.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
I mean, I don't know. The problem doesn't really set
me up like a like a best friend. It's like
a mocking you the whole way. But you know that's
what we do.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
You know. I like the fact he threw up like
right after he threw a pitch too, like this was
like a half four a pitch like this was.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
He throws a pitch, he gets fouled off and just yeah,
just just barts right after he throws out and used.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
To do that during football practice during two inchurs. Sure
sure boot rally, you just tried to be you know,
get to the sidelines as much as you could since
you were working in the trenches.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
But you know, it happens.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Carmon. Okay, so coming up next, I know, well,
with the Knicks trade, we're going to the finals. I mean,
it's such a big deal. But a coaching change in
sports that you gotta here to believe. That's next, right here, Jayson.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon and Wow, up and up until Yeah,
congratulations LaVar Ball. I know you've been trying to get
all your kids on one team for years, the Knicks.
The Knicks are getting all the Nova Knicks together, Philandova's
getting all the guy I've been trying to do this
for five years now, trying to get Lonzo and Jello
and yeah, all on the same team.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
But Jason, but Jason, LaVar Ball does win because Lonzo
ball I was able to exercise a player option for
twenty one point five million dollars with the that is,
despite not playing for two years.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
Yeah, yeah, it's true. But I'm saying he wanted to
get all his kids together.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
And no, I get it.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
You know that the Knicks are saying, hey, if you
went to Villanova, we could do.
Speaker 5 (32:45):
That for you.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Yeah, but isn't this a bigger victory?
Speaker 4 (32:48):
And then come on, think about the victory lap on
that one.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
No, it's bigger for the kick because we're winning the finals.
Now go New York, Go New York. Yeah, didn't even
beat the Pacers.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Statooe, Just stop, man, dude, You're Dodgers can't eve beat
White Sox.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
It's like three to three in the ninth inn' Come on,
really sorry?
Speaker 1 (33:07):
B So up until the big mcal Bridges trade to
the Knicks happened, this was gonna be the top story
of the night. Last night, we watched Tennessee win the
College World Series. They beat Texas A and M best
of three. A and M won the first game and
in a very quick amount of time, Jim Schlosnagel, who
was the head coach. It's always weird if baseball has
a head coach, But okay, whatever.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
It's close to Bashnagel, but not quite.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
He leads A and N to its first Men's College
World Series Championship series, and there is a lot of
rumors going around last night that, hey, schlas Nagle, maybe
this is it for him because Texas big time opening
and he could wind up being the next head coach
at Texas. Today he was named the head coach at Texas.
(33:52):
Oky before guys go, guys do really well in a
tournament and get named the head coach somewhere else, we
see that happen.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Yes, So okay, I get it. Yeah, arrival X A
and N to Texas, I get it.
Speaker 1 (34:04):
But this was schlas Nagel last night, the last question
he got of his press conference following A and m's
loss to Tennessee. This is how he answered the question about, Hey,
there's a lot of rumors out there, Jim that you
could be going to Texas.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Can you speak about that? This is what he said.
Speaker 7 (34:19):
Yeah, I mean, I think he's pretty selfish of you'd
ask me that question. To be honest with you, but
I left my family to be the coach at Texas
A and M. I took the job at Texas A
and M to never take another job again and that
hasn't changed in my mind.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Well apparently eighteen hours later, something really big happened because
he changed his mind and now he's a coach at Texas.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
Oh my god.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
You know, there's a way to deflect this, and there's
a way to look like an absolute jackass, and that's
exactly what he did.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
I left my family to coach Texas A and M. Okay,
so I guess, hey, you're selfish, and you know how
I know you're selfish.
Speaker 4 (35:01):
Let me tell you.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
Let me tell you.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
I left my family game recognized game. Okay, so yourself
has questioned myselfish. So Texas greater than Texas A and M,
greater than Jim Schloschnagel's family to say, I took the
job at A and M so I wouldn't take another job.
And then you take the job the next day, like
you had to know this was gonna happen, like there's
no way this was. Well, last night, I'm not doing it,
(35:24):
not doing it, and then today Texas called and said
we're gonna give you all of this all now I'm
taking the job. Like, first of all, he owes that
reporter in apology and what just an awful.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Look this guy.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
This guy, I mean, he looked like a complete and
total jerk by deciding I'm gonna be combative over a
question I could easily blow off when full well, hey,
in eighteen hours, my answer is gonna change. Right, Like,
he just looked like a complete and total jackass in
this situation, and they call it like I see it
because that's what he did. There's other ways to do it,
other ways to be classy and say things like, hey,
(35:56):
not talking about that right now.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
We just lost a championship game. Let's talk about that
another time. Anything you could have done.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
But I'm gonna be combative, I'm gonna mention my family,
and I'm gonna say I took this job so I
could never take another job. That's like when Nick Saban
till everybody the Dolphins, guys, I'm not going to Alabama,
and then he goes to Alabama the next day.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
What a jackass he looks like.
Speaker 4 (36:15):
Man, No, there's plenty of plenty of those. I immediately
started thinking of the Caden, some rowdy roddy piper talking
to Bob Orton. Not only did you embarrass and Paul Orndorf, Right,
it's like you not only you embarrass me, You embarrassed Ace.
There's Bob Orton over there with this cast on for
three years. You embarrass your whole family. You keep my
(36:37):
family out of this and then they start fighting. Ah,
that's exactly what happened here. Like, apologize it a guy. No,
it's the greatest moment of this reporter's life. He's gonna
be on everybody's show. Are you kidding me? How did
it feel when he tried to belittle you by saying
this and you had to scoop?
Speaker 3 (36:54):
I mean, that's it.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
It gets us fifteen minutes of fame on it. It's
not embarrassing for the reporter. He asked the question, the
guy will jacket.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
It was an eighteen hour embarrassment. Until then everything changed.
Speaker 5 (37:09):
No, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 3 (37:10):
It wasn't an embarrassment to the reporter.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
It was an embarrassment to the coach and remained such. No,
it was the only guy. He's got to apologize. Judy's
a man in the mirror. No being a dope.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
He didn't take the gig last night. He was still
the head coach at A and M. Last night. Everything
was fine this guy. Okay, you asked me I'm gonna
make fun of you.
Speaker 5 (37:26):
Now.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
Hopefully he lets him get the honor of the first
question as introductory press conference. Hey, coach, remember me, I
asked you about Texas. You told me I was a
selfish Just can he expand on that?
Speaker 5 (37:35):
Hey?
Speaker 4 (37:36):
Did my question send you down a deep dark path
of knowledge and introduction to a new job.
Speaker 1 (37:43):
We'll have more on this and the big breaking news
out of the NBA next right here, Jason and Mike,
This is Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
Nixon Mets will fly Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon live from the
tire Rack dot Com Studios. Big Night, Major League Baseball.
We could be seeing a big trade soon, potentially the Yankees,
maybe looking for one of the big young stars of
(38:21):
the game joining us. Now in the hotline, actually wearing
a Grimace costume.
Speaker 4 (38:26):
How about that?
Speaker 1 (38:27):
He is MLB network insider, extraordinary Fox Sports Radio insider
my pipeline to David Stearns, it is the Pope.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
John Paul Morosi, John Paul, what's happening, buddy?
Speaker 5 (38:38):
I am doing great, my friends. And guess what, Jason,
I will be at City Field tomorrow. I will probably
not wear a Grimace costume for my work obligations on
the field, but I suppose I will consider whether or
not I should wear a purple tie. Spark take in
(38:58):
the in the Grimm craze that is sweeping the nation
right now.
Speaker 1 (39:03):
You're gonna need to interview Grimace during the game, DeMar,
You know that, right. You got to find Grimace and
talk to him.
Speaker 5 (39:08):
There are innumerable Grimace's grimas I who are who are
watching games now at City at City Fields? All kinds
of cross marketing. We've got all kinds of McDonald's advertisements
in the ballpark. I'm excited. This is a I'll tell
you what this is about. As excited as I have
(39:29):
been for a Subway series in a long time. Because
you've got both teams there. There is a lot of
energy with both teams in different ways. With the Yankees,
Judge amazing, grand Slams, Tonight Soto, there's that hint and
teams of maybe well the Mets maker run of them.
In free agency this winter time, I expect it probably will.
(39:52):
And then yet Garrett Cole gives up four home runs tonight,
that was odd. The Glabor Torres not running the first
base was He explained afterwards that they had a groin issue,
which precipitated that there's a lot going on right now
on the Yankees. That then the Mets side of things, Jason,
as you know this, then they change their lineup and
now with Lindor at the top, Nimo jd And and
(40:15):
Alonso in that order. They have now a nine and
two record in the last eleven games. So the Mets,
they're not gonna be sellers anymore. They can't sell Pete
Lodza when they're playing this well. And the Yankees all
of a sudden have a little bit of a crisis
to figure out. So you've got a lot of storylines
to tackle tomorrow at the ballpark, you know, John Paul.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
That would that was all very lucid, great analogies that
you could. You bring it to us all the time.
But all I think of is, well, what is the
plural of grimace? Is it grimaces or grimaci? I mean,
you you've hit me, well, you've hit us with a conundrum.
Here is it because it sounds like it would be
grimacide that would make them a great.
Speaker 5 (40:53):
Yeah. I'm gonna go with grimocide because it's almost like
the uh yeah, when you have a certain a certain
noun that ends in any number of continents that you
tend to or some vowels, right, you end up going
with I'm trying to give a good example, it's not
really coming to me. It's like, the plural of deer
(41:15):
is deer. That's all I can think about right now,
is the pural plural of deer is deer. And so
if you were to try to explain the English language
to someone learning it for the first time, what is
the plural of deer? Well, it's also deer. Well, how
do you distinguish? You don't really, you just it's there's
a deer over there. Well, how many? Well there are
two deer or three. It's just it's a very complicated
(41:37):
language that we've got, and I will have to look
up to see with our Latin roots here, what the
proper plural form of grimace would be. I'm going to
go with grimacide.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
All right, what if it was rob deer? If rob
deer was over there'd be a big question as well. Okay,
you Rob Deer.
Speaker 5 (41:54):
Rob Deer is part of that Tigers team in nineteen
ninety three. That as my as my great men to
John Lowe said to me, John, that team led the
league in runs scored and was outscored. Think about that
for a minute. Yeah, that was That wasn't back in
the day when when the Tigers pitching staff was Bill
(42:15):
Gullicksen and not much else.
Speaker 3 (42:19):
We got Bill Gullickson and Rob Deer on the show.
Speaker 4 (42:22):
That's pretty good, right, and Grey's so we're yeah, well,
I mean, anytime we can talk about purple Ties and Grimace,
you know I'm in for it. So trade deadline, I mean,
today's like the mid midpoint, right, eighty one games for
most teams, and the trade whispers are out there. I mean,
Vladimir Guerrero maybe becomes part of murderers row. I mean,
(42:44):
how much momentum do we have towards a big move
happening imminently.
Speaker 5 (42:48):
Well, that's a great question about that. So so here's
here's the story of Vladimir. He was asked by by
my friend Omar, was one of the great Spanish language
reporters in Boston, about a comment that Vladdie had made
years ago about how he said he was never going
to sign with the Yankees, no way, no how, And
(43:10):
it appeared that at some point between Vladimir's comments then
and this afternoon, he took a look at where the
Yankees rank and payroll and maybe said probably shouldn't have
said that, just you know, as a general thought. And
he explained that it went back because of his dad.
There was something going on between Blatt Senior and the Yankees.
Speaker 2 (43:31):
Be that as it may.
Speaker 5 (43:33):
When Omar asked him today, so is that still the case?
Do you still say that you would never ever play
for the Yankees, And, at the risk of going fully
down the road of the translation, Vladdie's response to that was, well, no,
it's no longer the case that he would refuse to,
at any point in time in his life ever be
(43:53):
employed by the Yankees. That's that is that story. The
larger question is what are the Yankee he is actually
going to do and would they potentially trade for him.
I would highly doubt the Blue Jays would trade Bladdie
in the division. However, the general premise of do the
(44:13):
Yankees need some help offensively? I think the answer is yes.
I mean, certainly Judge saved them today. And by the way,
we've got like a team of a dozen researchers trying
to figure out if Judge's last two months are the
best two months that we've seen in the last like
fifty years from anybody, it's unbelievable what he's doing right now.
But aside from Judge, Lemayhew hasn't gotten going glabor right
(44:38):
in the middle of all this conversation about not running
out of ground ball, they need some offensive help stands
on the IL. There's just there's a lot of things
happen there. So while I don't believe it's going to
be Bladdie, I believe it's going to be someone, and
the time for former met JD. Davis to prove that
he's the guy is probably not terribly long. And Jami
(45:01):
Jones with their DH today, So the New York Yankees
have some work to do, by the way, as does
the Dodgers with their rotation. If Kershaw's gotten his shoulder thing,
Yamamoto's on the IL, Buelers on the IL. So all
these behemoth teams are not perfect, which means it's a fun,
busy trade season for people like me. And people like
(45:23):
us talk about for the next month.
Speaker 1 (45:25):
MLB Networking inside of John Paul Morosi, our guest The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from the tirec
dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
All right, help us out with this.
Speaker 1 (45:33):
We talked about this last night, and it's gotten to
the point in baseball where everybody rolls their eyes when
the player gets suspended for steroids and they say, I
didn't know it was in the supplement I was taking.
I'm kind of at the same point with pitchers Edwin
Diaz accepting his ten game suspension. They all say the
same thing, it's just sweat and rosen. I don't understand
(45:53):
it's just sweat and rosen, and the umpires say, we
know what sweat and rosen is. This is not sweat
and ras and so what is it? I mean, not
not this specifically, but what is it that pictures are
doing that are getting caught. It can't just be hey,
we had this mixture, I got a bad bag, a
rosin or something else like, because Diaz's hand look purple
like he was shaking hands with Grimace before he came
out on the field.
Speaker 5 (46:13):
Right, So I'm not gonna blame grimas for this one.
This is this is on this one Edwin Diaz's responsibility.
Here's here's at the risk of turning our segment into
a chemistry experiment, what what I will say is this,
when you mix in rosin dirt, sunscreen, other other sort
(46:35):
of naturally legal substances, if you if you take them
in a encopious amounts and create a concoction that is
roughly the consistency of stick them on your hand, that
is not okay. And that's why that's why they're checking
(46:56):
the hand. I mean, when you think about it, they're
not doing like a FORENDZ examination. It's not CSI Baseball.
They're basically saying, is the dude's hand so sticky that
he is rendering an unfair advantage on the ability to
spin the ball? And the opinion of the umpiring crew,
which has done approximately a billion of these checks since
(47:18):
Baseball started doing it, they felt ds X and said,
this is way out of lime. It's not fair. And
so I don't know what the exact h I don't
know what the exact terminology is in terms of how
much rosin dirt, other things one could put that are
that are legally on your hand at what point time
(47:39):
it becomes illegal in baseball? But there is a point
that exists. There is a point that exists where you
have so much sticky stuff in your hand. Even if
the individual components are legal, the concoction itself is illegal.
And how do you know, Well, you know when you
see it, you know when your pants purple. And so
I suppose I would advise Edwin with with what my
(48:00):
mother has always advised me, which is, Johnny, all things
in moderation. So there you go, all things in moderation.
Speaker 3 (48:07):
Edwin, JP.
Speaker 4 (48:08):
Let me ask you that also in terms of whatever
you're consuming before you go out to a start. Hunter
Green struggled today on the mound, but struggled keeping whatever
down as we had a little bit of a vomit
situation on the mound for him, Pirates nine to five win.
When was the last time you saw that? I mean,
(48:29):
was that high school football?
Speaker 3 (48:31):
I mean was that?
Speaker 4 (48:32):
Where are we going back in the way back? I
don't think I've seen that on a major league mound before,
so I.
Speaker 5 (48:38):
Think it actually happened. I can't remember what it was.
Was it Dylan Bundy? There may have been a I'm
not sure who it was there was someone though, seven
or eight years ago. Because I'll say that is pretty good.
Speaker 3 (48:52):
It is Dylan Bundy.
Speaker 5 (48:53):
Yeah, there you go, Dylan Bundy, because I remember, I
remember one of my kids. I cannot believe I'm talking
about the radio. One of my kids was was a
little bit still a little afraid about puking, and I said,
I said, give me a girl, sit down. Dad's gonna
show you something. And I called up the video of
Dylan Bundy Duke. I said, listen, look at him the
heat puke, He's fine. He's still pitching in a major
(49:14):
league game. So if you puke, they're gonna be fine too.
So like, look, Duke is puke, You're gonna be all right.
So uh so that's my one little how how Dylan
Bundy helped me be a better parent. There you go.
Speaker 4 (49:27):
But I'll take that booting around the kids. We got
work to do together.
Speaker 5 (49:31):
Gether around, girls, gether round. Dad's gonna show you something
for a baseball game. And my wife is like, John,
what are you doing. I was like, I'm I'm like
desensitizing the puke thing. And they're like, okay, Dad, Well
we're good. Now we understand it's all. It's so if this,
if Dylan Bundy did it, and in a by puke,
I'm okay, maybe I'll pitch the big vies one day.
Exactly that's exactly right. So I will say this back
(49:54):
back in an earlier time of of of high school football,
when when really really things were not as tightly controlled
as they are now in terms of just like how
you should treat other humans. There was like we were
doing our.
Speaker 8 (50:10):
Conditioning drills and my one of the assistant coaches who
had a reputation for such behavior as as soon as
like the first out of shape kid puked on the
first day of two days, which if.
Speaker 5 (50:22):
You played on football, you know what I'm talking about.
The first the first kid that wasn't running enough, and
it's ninety nine degrees in Michigan with humidity, and so
this kid just like is hurling after doing these windsprints.
And I'll never forget the coach from the opposite side
of the fields like I got a puker. I got
a buker that he was like proud that he had
(50:43):
made the out of shaped kids puke. I mean, like,
for whatever reason I still remember this to this day,
I got a puker. I got a puker, So there
you go. So I remember the rather aggressive offensive coordinator
who thought that because I was short as a quarterback
that I must must be fast. That they like anybody
(51:03):
that would give him a short quarterback like that, like
you would have to be fast, right, I'm like, no, dude,
I am both too short to see over the line
and too slow to effectively run the option with the
with the tailback is actually fast. But unfortunately, I will
tell you that our hometown is a square mile. I'm
what you got, and the reason why I'm what you
(51:24):
got is on the is I'm the one guy on
the team who knows the playbook, so like I can't
actually throw the football very far, but if you ask
me what everyone's supposed to do, I can tell you
that because I've basically told myself that if I rememberized
all this stuff, I have a lower chance of like
getting crushed on the field. That if I'm in the
(51:46):
right place, I will usually be Okay. That's what I
told myself, and that's that's why I memorized the playbook,
and that is how I got to be the quarterback
of a two and sixteen team that is absolutely a
true story. Every word I just said.
Speaker 3 (51:58):
And let me tell you this.
Speaker 1 (51:59):
You know, speak get a true stories, because I want
to tell you what happened after you told your kids
and tried to do to teach them about throwing up.
When you left the room, your wife looked at your
kids and said, if dad ever does something like that
with you again, come find me right away. I get
because that's exactly what happened when you walked out.
Speaker 3 (52:17):
Of the room.
Speaker 5 (52:18):
I'm sure you're probably right, but I felt like it was.
And it was like, you know, darn it, what do
I know? I know baseball, and like, hey, there was
this guy in the mount he pooked once and and
and so PUCs part of life. That's basically what I said.
Put that, Put that on a on a on a
quote board right there. Pukin's part of life.
Speaker 1 (52:37):
Because we'll make a T shirt on it. We're gonna
put your harmon, will make a T shirt on it.
Check him out on Twitter at John Rossi and see
him tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (52:48):
You know, we didn't even get a chance to talk
about a great game seven of the Sea couple lamps
last night. Congrass the Port of Panthers congrass the Tennessee volunteers.
That was a great, great night for sports.
Speaker 1 (53:00):
He's two and fifteen on the football field, but number
one in our hearts. He's on the call Tom all
the Mets Yankees as the Mets go for the city
field sweep. It is John Morosi. John is always appreciated, Buddy.
I give my best discernsy. We'll talk soon.
Speaker 5 (53:13):
We'll do. I'm older and slower now than I was
back then, and I still can't see over the lines.
That hasn't changed.
Speaker 1 (53:20):
A lot of jump passes, a lot of jump Hey.
Morosi invented the jump pass. He thought that was Tebow.
Morosi invented the jump pass. That was a tough thing too.
I told you because I was a quarterback all the
way up until the freshman year of high school. I
was like, okay, great because I could throw, I get
the ball. I couldn't throw, And I'm like, I can't
see over the line. How am I going to complete
a pass? I gotta roll out, I can't get I
can't see ahre any receivers.
Speaker 5 (53:41):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 3 (53:42):
Am I gonna see down the field? I can't see already?
Speaker 4 (53:45):
You're going full Jim McMahon tim Tebow jump on Morosi
