Go.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
The Knicks plan Mike Harmon to get every single player
who ever did anything good for the Villanova Wildcats is
clearly rocking and rolling. You heard the message from Brian
Fenley just a couple moments ago. A trade that is
shaking the NBA right now on the eve of the draft.
For some reason, I never thought they would. Why would
(01:31):
the Nets trade with the Knicks? But they do. Mikal
Bridges goes to the Knicks in exchange for Boy and Bogdanovich,
four unprotected first round picks, a protected first round pick
from the Bucks, a pick swap, and a second round
or so. Basically, it's Michel Bridges to the Knicks and
the Knicks are giving up a thousand draft picks, which
(01:52):
they have accumulated. This is what they did, is what
first round picks are for. And another incredibly talented Villanova
Wildcat comes. There's no room for anybody else. Like, if
you didn't go to Villanova, you are off the team.
Ogiannonoby gone, Julius Randall, Gott you go to Villanova, you're
on the Knicks. You're not going to Villanova, You're not
a Nick. I'm sorry. And if something happened with Tibbs,
(02:12):
Jay Wright comes in to coach the team. It is
all set to go. We are going to the finals
next year. Go New York, Go New York Coat, Go
New York, Go New York Coat.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
I gotta say this, it's really a nice feather in
the cap for Tom Thibodeau to be able to see say,
these are the guys I can coach. They buy into
the crap I'm selling on both ends of the court.
Can't be more of them, and the front office saying,
you know what, Tom, okay, let's do that.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
But look, he knows what works, right. You know these
are the guys that are going to work in my system.
I know the guys are gonna work. We need we
need certain guards that can do certain things. You need
guys that can play two ways. You need wings that
can defend. And I don't think it's any coincidence on
the day that Ogiano Nooby says, hey, I'm gonna opt
out to get a new deal and we're training for
Michel Bridges. Wait wait, wait, so is there money for me?
(03:03):
I don't know what does that mean? Is there money
for me? Or is there no money for me? I
don't understand what what like? Like am I staying am
I going like, what are we doing? What's happening here?
I don't understand.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, I mean, look, you can't make the omelet without
breaking a few eggs, So some of the members of
the family are gonna have to be u shuffled off.
I mean that's part of the theme of tonight if
some of the stories going on, Hey, you gotta make choices.
You gotta make some difficult choices as it goes along.
And to add talent, you've got to decide what the
(03:33):
pecking order is, what's the level of importance. It's what
we've been talking about this entire time with the Lakers
and making the coaching decisions, but also what you're looking
at with Lebron James short term, long term, what are
the plans, goals, expectations, et cetera. For your Nicks. I mean,
you're only gonna get so many years before these guys
break down. We've seen it. I mean, which is like
(03:54):
when Dusty Baker was managing the Cubs. I mean, eventually
those arms are falling off when we're.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
In a two year We're in a two year window
now because you know, eventually we got to pay Brunson.
We just ate Evencenzo, we paid hard. It's fine, Everything
is fine. Well, I understand this is what we have
to do, and we're good. But on the other side
of it is okay. Now we've opened up a two
year window where we can now end up really not
not just next year, but the year after saying this
(04:19):
is not just it was open a crack. We've opened
that window all the way. Man, like, hey, let the
day in. Open up that window, put your head out,
breathe in the new day, in the fresh air, and go, oh,
it's gonna be a great day, Like you're the man
with the yellow hat. Well he started, Oh it's gonna
be a great day, George, Oh what a great day.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
I really thought you were going to reference the call
let the day begin, Let the day begin, Let the
day Mike the way he set it up at the
beginning of all this, I really thought he was gonna
praise on Tani for another hit. He's kind of a
big deal. My team stinks, but we'll get to that,
and there's plenty of time to mock that, and plenty
of time for your team to blow your game anyway,
(04:57):
Bridges has what two years left, right, Yeah, for your
ninety million dollar deal. You all can do the fuzzy
math in today's day and age, that's nothing for a
guy that's gonna come in and contribute as anticipated. So yeah,
it's if you can give up a bunch of draft picks,
(05:17):
you know, I chuckle at it, all right, But because
most teams don't know what to do with them, which
is why I love it when teams amass them and
then all of a sudden look around and go, you know,
we actually need players that can play, Guys that have
been there, done that, and we're ready to compete. Now,
can we convince some other team that not only are
they hopeless, but that they're gonna get it right with
(05:40):
their front opposite coaching staff.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Oh wait, let's call the Nets. Well look, here's why
this is a great trade. Right, it's a great the Nets.
Obviously they had to do it. They're terrible, they're starting over,
and Bridges was their number one piece that they could move.
There was a lot of interest in him around the league,
and that's why the Knicks had to give up basically
six first round picks to go get him. But this
(06:01):
is what you do. How good are the Knicks first
round picks? Going to be their picks. That's why teams
like them so they can move them. Some teams love
taking the picks. Some teams having the picks so they
can deal them.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Yeah, and some teams don't sit long enough at the
negotiating tambla on the phone to actually get a pick
when they're making a trade that they should get at
least one or two. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Well, okay, okay, I'm sorry about that. I am sorry
about that, buddy.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
He triggered me.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Sorry about that. But look, but this is a trade
where you get Bridges, who's twenty seven, and he's a
terrific offensive player. What did I What did I tell
you from the beginning? The Knicks can't. They can't kid
themselves into thinking we're gonna go into next year with
the same kind of offense. They don't. You can't. You
hit a moment with Heart and Devincenzo in the playoffs
where everybody was hurt and these guys would score thirty
(06:46):
every other game. That's just not gonna happen, right, That
was a moment where for a for a month they
sucked it up and you got everything you could out
of them. I told you the Knicks needed another scorer, right,
But what does Tom Thibodau like. I don't want a
guy that can just score. I want to go that's
gonna be able to play well defensively. And while he
has been a great defensive player, he wasn't great last year.
You've heard a lot out of Brooklyn Boy. Bridges isn't
(07:08):
quite the same guy. Maybe he was playing a little
bit out of position, maybe he was just trying to
carry a little do a little bit too much. But
he has been a really good defensive player for his career.
I'll take the one year step back on a bad
team when suddenly you're thrown into Tom Thibodau's team and
now you have a two way player who was going
to score and is gonna be able to play great defense.
He is going to fit in. It's gonna be like
when Ananobe came in. He fits right in and all
(07:29):
of a sudden, the Knicks are the best defensive team
in the NBA. Bridge is gonna fit right in. And
that's the level the Knicks are going to be at.
And now they've opened up a two year window. You
can sign guys. You can still trade if you need
to make a move, but you have turned this team
into an absolute juggernaut of two way players that can
score and can play defense. And I'm ready, man, I
told you Knicks are going to the final. I gave
you my Knicks to the finals three days ago. Why
(07:52):
because I said the Knicks and the Thunder right whom
I pick Nicks in the Thunder because I said, they're
the two teams that are already big time contenders, that
have the maneuverability with draft picks and money to make
the adjustments they need. Right, and Oklahoma City needs a
big and they probably could. They already made one big
move right, already got Caruso, who could be in over
(08:12):
the top kind of piece. Former you know, two time
defensive All Defensive Team. He's a guy that can put
him over the top. Okay, so that was their first move.
The Knicks do the same thing. When you have the
picks and you have the money, you can make whatever
moves you need. And that's why I like both of
these teams because clearly, if you're gonna get up over
the Celtics or get up over the the the t Wolves,
Nuggets slash Mavericks in the West, you need to make
(08:34):
sure you get better and both of these teams have
done it in the last couple of days. I feel
like I motivated both of them. I feel like I
should if they both go because I picked both of them.
And who've made the two biggest trades so far, Nix
and the Thunder, Like like we're doing we're influencing things here, Mike.
Maybe if you talked a little louder, the Bulls could
have got an extra first round pick. Maybe they could
have got a little something else in the trade. But
(08:55):
maybe the next deal it won't be so bad.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
I did a lot of screaming about the Bulls and
their ineptitude long before you know that was even an idea,
uh to make a deal with Okay, see, but it's
it's that fun part of the year, right this, this
part of the calendar, with a lot of movement expected,
a lot of big names expected to be on the
(09:17):
move free agency, and certainly a lot of dollars out there.
The draft is kind of just a necessary thing in
the middle of all of it. And I feel bad
for the guys that are going to be top picks
because at that at this point, it's there. There's a
lot of introductory press conferences where it's gonna be Can
you pronounce your name for me? And it's like, no, no,
(09:40):
you watch me. My last name's Castle. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
we did watch you, uh and and things of that nature.
And and I don't mean that, you know, in any
way against the international players. It's just a it's not
a draft where the the average fan knows what's coming
on board, which means all the other movement around it
(10:00):
has that much more weight. Where's brandon ingram end Up?
What do the Lakers do to they get a third star?
What are the Hawks do? Are they trading the pick
to San Antonio where they're the number one overall? I mean,
all of those things are fascinating, and then you got
the whole Bronnie James things behind it. But yeah, your
Nicks and thunder out of the gate make a couple
(10:21):
of very big moves. And again it's a short window.
And that's what I appreciate for it. It's not the Hey,
we're building long long term, so let's keep all these
draft picks and hope we get them all right to
where it coalesces. You know, trust the process. Hey, that
guy's hurt, he ain't gonna play this year. Okay, Cool,
we're gonna get another no more pick. Hey, that guy's hurt,
(10:42):
he ain't gonna play this year. Cool, we're gonna get
a number one pick again. Eventually, you guys are all
gonna be on the court together, right, Sure, so you
know when you look at okay, see and obviously they've
got something cooking there and a ton of draft picks,
and now we'll see what press he can do with
it for the Knicks to be able to look at
it and say, all right, we bring this guy in
with two years left on his deal. We know Brunson
(11:04):
was at the time everybody thought he was overpaid. More
apologies to him than any player in sports history about
contracts and everything else. I've never seen media genu fleck
to a guy like that over a contract in an opinion,
which is absurd. Hey, you didn't like the deal, that's okay,
he went and proved you're wrong. You could just say, hey,
(11:26):
you know what, cool, good for him and move forward.
But eventually you got to pay the piper again. And
let's face it, the way Thibodeau and company play, you've
got a short window with these guys playing at a
breakneck pace for eighty two games plus however many in
a postseason, so you've got to maximize your returns. And
(11:47):
draft picks don't matter in this is kind of scenario.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
No, they never matter unless you have the number one
pick or the one and two pick in an era
where you're hey, Wenby's coming out or Caitlin Clark is
coming out or somebody else. Unless you have one of
those picks, it's a it's it's such a dice roll.
It's not it's not the NFL, it's not anything. It's hey,
if you're picking the NFL. Yeah, but at least you
(12:11):
know you have you have a lot of talent that
has been proven over the course of their collegiate careers,
where you can you can form a great opinion about
a guy because he's played at least three years in college.
In the NBA, it's like you get guy coming off
the bench, you know, he's played eight minutes again, brownie, Oh,
and suddenly, hey, well what's he gonna do? We gotta
take him. We don't know. But the first round picks, yeah,
I'm okay with I'm okay, move as many as you
(12:32):
need to, as long as it's not the number one pick.
And Wenby is coming out. Yeah, you can trade that.
You could trade those first round picks. It's absolutely fine.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
Yeah, Jason, the old joke, remember the Simpsons episode Bart
does his cartoon and he he makes a deal with
the company and they give him stock in exchange, and
on the end they're like, hey, take as much stock
as you want on the way out. That's kind that's
kind of draft picks at this point, you need one more, Hey,
take one more, go ahead. What do we care if
we're any good? They're all what they back into the
(13:01):
first round anyway.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
So there it is. The New York Knicks trade up
to five first round picks for Michel Bridges from the Nets,
and now they're going to the finals next year. It
was a great run. Boston. Congratulations on your championship. It's awesome.
It's over. I hope you enjoyed.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
How many people jump on the Knicks fan over man.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
Plenty of room. I got plaed I've been driving. I've
been driving this thing like Sandra bullockin Speed and I
got room for anybody who wants to come on. Usually
people were getting off that bus. Okay, so bad analogy,
but I'm still driving the hell out of that bus. Man,
Get get on, I got the big wheels, I'm turning.
I'm waving to the kids at the corner. Hey, how
you doing? Go New York, Go New York.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
Go. Plenty of room and in the entire time, you
got blinders and you're driving like the guy that drives
the ghost bus.
Speaker 1 (13:42):

Speaker 1 (15:21):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Everything coming up Smith, right now? The
next trade for Michel Bridges, the Mets beat the Yankees,
Game one of the Subway Series, Mets Smith's Nicks, Nick Smett,
Smith's Nicks, Nick Smett, It's all it's coming up Smith,
Mike Harmon, It's all coming up Smith's.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Right, Bar it really is good for you, right, now
and obviously you know we're keeping an eye on the
the aftershock of the Knicks deal. Look, the the Yankees
Mets thing. You can litigate with your friends and family. Uh,
you know, call Walt. We can get Walt on the
on the air and see what is his reaction is
(16:01):
live to the action. Well, no, he's he's on the
Matt Locke. Yeah, I don't find the evil culprit.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
No, just really quit. What one big thing from this
Yankees Mets game is I'm gonna give you a Big
Bowl prediction right here. Glaber Torres has just played his
last game as a Yankee. He has just played his
last game as a Yankee. He has not had a
great season. And you just watched on a grounder that
he could in a gate. Aaron Judge hits a grand
slam in the eighth inning because for some reason, Reed
(16:30):
Garrett goes oh and two on him and throws a
fast ball down the middle, gives up a grand slam.
How do you give up a man on oh and two?
How do you throw an oh and two pitch? Give
up a ground? How do you do that? How do
you do that?
Speaker 3 (16:41):
I don't understand, but hey, he figured Judge thought he
would waste one so he could sneak on past him.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
I mean, Judge hits a Grand Slam and it's what
the hell, man? It makes it nine to seven. And
then Glibra Torres comes up and he hits a ground
ball to Francisco Lindor, and on the grounder, I'm saying
to myself, what is Lindor doing. He's wait, it's a
slow grounder, Like he's got to come up and grab
that and throw on the run. I'm like, what the
hell is he doing? He's gonna what the hell. And
then I see he makes the throw and Taus is
(17:10):
out by ten feet. I go, oh, Torres must have
fallen down. He must have he must have something had
because there's no reason. Now now I get why I'm
watching Lindor just to ease up to the ball. And
then they show the replay and it's just Torres just
lollygagging all the way down the first baseline. And you know,
that's one of those things where Subway series. Judge, it's
(17:31):
a Grand Slam all the momentum. You can't run out
a ground ball. That's your ticket out of town. I mean,
he had an OK year last year. I mean, he's
a fifteen and seventy guy at two seventy, but this
year has been terrible and and something like that. That's
the last straw, and so I wouldn't be surprised he
played his last game. And it's either a DFA or
a trade, and that's gonna happen soon, because you you
(17:52):
could do that if you're playing the Twins on a
Tuesday night and no one's paying attention. You can't do
that on national TV again against the Mets when you
are faltering and here's the other New York team that
beats you, and you had a chance to come back.
You had a home run from your best player, and suddenly, oh,
you can't beat out it. You can't run out of
groundball that you would have probably beaten out. Yeah, that's
(18:12):
his last game as inch.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Actually, it is kind of a curiosity, right, is that
it was a national game that hopefully everybody got the
memo that you didn't have to go chase it down
on the MLB package whatever. I guess maybe I should
be more in tune with TBS Tuesday Night Baseball. I
was sucked into soccer to know that off the top,
(18:34):
and then I went to find said soccer on FS one.
I was like, oh, I got baseball and I could
watch Aaron Judge perhaps bring the Yankees back. So yes,
I saw the home run and then watched the subsequent
play Tora. You know, for gliber Torres, it's been one
of those keep waiting for him to be a superstar
kind of things like that. They've been trying to make
(18:55):
that happen forever, Like you and I don't know, Curious
George impressions on that radio.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
You know, we really hit on something with meeting with
my Curious Georgia.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
You know, it's kind of a big deal.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
Like what does Curious George think about the Michael Bridges trade?
Speaker 3 (19:11):
You know, I know, and now I brought it back,
And now I hate myself because Frostburg and I were
communicating a number of things earlier in the day through
well Curious georgisms. But you know your guy, you know,
with Bridges can now coming to the Knicks, you know,
once we get into this new new calendar and everything's
(19:31):
finalized and all of that fun stuff, there's a lot
of social media going down. First off, bet MGM, the
odds for the Knicks to win the title have gone
from seventeen to one to nine to one.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
No, that's how big it is, man, I'm telling you.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
It's a waste of a dollar.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Oh stoptop, literally a waste of a dollar. Dude. We
are loaded, man, the knicks are usually they're just all right.
That's a different content. Even beat the Pacers, dude, it
doesn't matter. Everybody was hurt, and now we just added
an extra guy who's probably and hopefully not gonna be
just hit another three. Oh stop with that. I still
am gonna see that.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
A Hey, that's Canadian Olympic hopeful. But anyway, Josh Hart yo,
we blank and lit yep. And then he's saying, hey
call me Jalen Brunson o MG. And then the one
I said prosper, which was really the key to all
of it from at BAM. One of one y'all was tampering,
(20:35):
and as we've seen tampering in any of this stuff,
everybody kind of shrugs and moves on.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
Yeah, okay, is it worth it?
Speaker 3 (20:41):
Well? Okay, well, I mean go back to the Atlanta Falcons. Wait,
we got how many guys? He said, we tampered with
all of our free agents? That's what three four eight guys,
two hundred and fifty k and a fifth rout pick.
How are we all feeling.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Let's go, we just traded five first round picks. You
want another two hundred grand, Sure, we'll give it to you.
That's fine, Like that's gonna.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
Be something to start counting it out in nickels. Oh okay,
that's obviously different sports. But let's face it, you're more
likely to see something of substance from the NFL than
you ever will from Adam Silver in his office, you know, anytime,
especially if the Knicks are involved. Anytime I see this,
I always think of that famous Ross Parole line when
he was running for press was it ninety two when
(21:24):
he ran as a third party Candida?
Speaker 1 (21:25):
Oh yeah, yeah yeah. When they asked him during the
debate what it makes, like how much how much money
do you have? Do you know he's a billionaire And
he goes, oh, a couple million dollars? And they said, wait,
what like people are looking there? Wait, we we thought
you were worth X amount of money. He goes, oh,
I thought you met. How much money did I have
on me?
Speaker 3 (21:47):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (21:47):
You want? Here's two hundred and fifty grand? Yeah, there
you go.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Okay, that's great, literally shaking it out the bottom of
his boot.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
Yeah, oh you know, or or I think of the wire.
When Cuddy goes into avon On and he's getting all
all worked up. He's wants to ask him for ten
thousand dollars to start a gym, and he's got all
this going. You owe me this, I helped you, I
did this, I did this. I need ten thousand dollars
a really big deal. And he goes, I think you
owe me that money. I need that. I need ten
thousand dollars. All that I've done for you, I need it.
(22:15):
And Avon goes, oh shit, you want ten thousand dollars
and he turns a week he goes, give him twenty
thousand dollars. Give the guy and he was post twenty
grand off the back wall. Hand it to him, the
ego man, thanks for everything, all right, cool, good luck
with the jim. Oh you had ten, that's Give the
guy twenty thousand dollars. Give the guy. Oh oh really,
you're gonna you're gonna you're gonna find me for tampering
because because Josh Hard is wearing a villanova's sweatshirt and
(22:38):
pictures with all of them on it. Yeah, okay, that's fine,
that's great. Yeah, tamper me. I'll tamper me all the
way in to the NBA Finals.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
Tamp me all the way. Go New York, Go, New York. Coat,
Go New York, Go, New York Coat. Family, it's exciting.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Now we will have more on the Knicks because.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
Wait, wait, wag, I gotta I gotta ask one last question.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
Yeaheah sure sure by going to the finals.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
Or Hartenstein, which guy gets excommunicated from the family.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
Oh no, no, no, it's it's gonna it's gonna be
o g He's gonna be worth too too much money.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
I mean they guys, they're talking forty million a year plus.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
They like I said from I don't think there's any
coincidence that on the day that anunobe opts out, the
Knicks make the trade for bridges. I mean, yes, you
can say they operate in a vacuum and oh well
yeah this was, But I don't think he's going to
opt out. We're making the trade for bridges, Dude, I
got doubt.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
That's That's like saying you took a coaching job in
a big city and a big market team without ever
talking to the superstar about it.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
Come on, that sakes don't happen. No, I it's you know,
look and here's the thing, and I'll be honest with
you here, right, okay, Well we'll get to the coaching
change in a minute. Is that when and be opted
out today? Right? That was the big news earlier in
the day. He had one more year at nineteen million left,
and clearly his stock rose because the Knicks did become
the best defensive team in the NBA when he showed up.
(23:56):
He was exactly what the Knicks need, a three and
D guy. Perfect, And there's a reason why. Immediately when
they got him, the Knicks went from hey, they're a
pretty good team, middle of the pack. Maybe they win
a first round, maybe they don't. Yeah, I don't know,
to suddenly, hey, this is a team that can go
all the way right automatically. You saw that, you saw
that change. But when I saw him opting out and
I saw the money it was gonna be, I said,
(24:18):
you know what, you have to let him go. You
gotta let him go. I get it. I get that
how important he was and how good the team was,
but you have to let him go, not because he's
not worth it. But because the guy can't stay healthy
and this is a five year thing now, he missed
the championship with the Raptors. You couldn't stay healthy. He
can't stay healthy. He got hurt when the Knicks needed
in the most. He got hurt right after they got
him after the deadline. As great a peace as he was,
(24:41):
and as great as it was to slot him right
in because there was no adjustment period. The Knicks need
to do this. That was a great thing, right, That's
not something you normally get. Sometimes a guy needs a
little bit of time to get and he slipped right in.
But he already has gotten hurt twice when the Knicks
needed him the most, especially in the playoffs. You can't
give a guy that guy money. I watched them, me,
let's do this with Cespitus, and I said, what can
(25:02):
you do? The guy absolutely carried the Mets to the
World Series. Are you really not going to pay him?
And then I watched it. It was one hundred million dollars
a day, just flushed down the drain. Becausember, when telling
don't do it, wro do it right. But it's like,
but what could you do right? What you just got
you to the world.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
This guy's bounce it all over the place.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
No, look at what he did, Look at what he did.
How could you not give it to him? But I
watched the Mets do it, and I watched them for
four years. Sit there and go, this just killed us,
Like you can't. He's you know, Anaonobe is twenty seven
years old and in five years he hasn't stayed healthy.
You can't give a guy like that money because you
can't judge when he's going to be able to be healthy.
You know, It's like it's like being you know, look,
(25:39):
the Pelicans are locked in for Zion and it's well,
maybe he's going to be healthy for us, maybe he's not.
So I I completely understand this. So I'm ready to
come on here tonight with the Anoonobe things saying hey
let him go, go get somebody else, you know, Sigin
Hartenstein and and try to go. And now all of
a sudden, it's no, no, no, we are raising the
level by going to get Michel Bridges, who was another
guy that's going to fit right in. And not only that,
(26:00):
the chemistry on this team is gonna be off the hook.
I mean, hopefully they're inclusive because you know, the non
Villanova players will be be allowed in to do things
like they're all they're all playing video games by themselves.
Nobody else is allowed in. But I mean, this is
a team that now you can see the fun they're
gonna have. They already have playing with each other. It's
a thing. Now Thibodeau has become a coach that that
has gone from well after two years, he wears out
(26:21):
his welcome to this guy could coach in New York
for a decade. Like like, he's got the buy and
he's got the buy in from the players, he's got
the he's got the stars he needs. This was an
over the top bold move saying we are gonna go
win the championship next year and they're gonna go do it.
And congratulations to the Celtics. It's great. They had a
right Congratulations to Andrew Denbard made a three. He's never
(26:41):
gonna make it again in his life. That's awesome. He
got to the East Finals. That was fantastic. And then
you guys threw up on yourselves. Awesome, great, great.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
And you's over man, how much sleep if you lost
over that three points?
Speaker 1 (26:51):
That's oh my god, man, I'll be honest with you,
that's a tough one to get over. Man, that's a
tough one to get over. That really is of anything else.
That is a tough one to get a double bang
handed time out in New York. That is true.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Forgot about the double bang and time out. I mean,
that's that's next level stuff right when we're talking about
second act. But it's it'll be interesting to see how
the rest of this this roster takes shape because you
got to make the hard financial decisions right with.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
The the new.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Levels that we we've got to work at, you know,
the fictional salary cap and now we've got level one,
level two and aprons. Yes, aprons comes to sports, uh
in terms of talking about the the salaries, h and processing.
But you know, for tonight you get to a little
victory lap, maybe extra sauce on your big Mac, maybe
(27:46):
just a little bit more because it worked out for
you today. Well, no games are being played, that's true,
and hey, my teams always do great in the office
and you're and you're losing at least one glue guy
we own the off season. But look, but this is
the thing, and this is remember Og Andobe as much
as you love Jalen Brunson. I mean you were about
(28:06):
ready to get a uh you know, a calf tattoo
or maybe a tramp stamp of Ogan Andobe. You loved
him so much.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Look, look he was great, but then look what happened.
He got hurt When they need him the most, he
got hurt. I get it. I get doing this. And look,
maybe there's still money there. Maybe they make a crazy
decision and they decide, hey, we're gonna go get Anunobi
and he's the.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
Priority, but we're getting rid of everybody else.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
So good because that's the thing, and that's what, that's
what what what you have to understand about. Beast moves right.
These two trades we've seen so far, they've taken up
a lot of attention in the NBA. The the Alex
Caruso trade to the Thunder and now the Bridge's trade
to the Knicks. It's not about just getting guys, right,
you see teams as well. Here's the stars that are
out there. Let's bring him in and let's see let's
see what can make it work. Right. Yeah, you see
(28:49):
that sometimes that works. It worked with the Celtics. We
just have all the talent we need. We'll make it
all work together. But when you can move and say
this is the guy we gotta go get because he
fits what we do and we're already pretty good. I
mean that, that's like making two great trades. Right, Hey, Caruso,
what do we need? We need some outside shooting, we
need more. We need another guard who can defend it,
can defend out on the wing, and the Thunder get
(29:11):
that man. They're gonna be impossible to beat next year.
We talk about the t Wolves and their defensive system,
yet Great Thunder are the same thing. They didn't just
go get a guy. They went out and got somebody
who was an over the top kind of player. The
same thing the Knicks. They just get a guy saying, hey,
this is a scorer who we're gonna fit into the system.
Like you look at anybody's in any offseason wish list
(29:32):
for the Knicks, Bridges name was near the top, but
it was are the Nets really gonna trade with the Knicks?
I mean, but they did it because the Knicks probably
came over the top with one or two more first
round picks than anybody else was offering. So it's like, Okay,
we're gonna make this deal. Like they go out and
get a guy that's hey, we need a score and
we need a guy that can defend well, and we
got it and there's not gonna be any assimilation time.
(29:53):
And the Knicks are gonna hit the ground running. I'm
thinking already, Nicks're gonna be the number one seed in
the East next year, going in the playoffs. Come on,
that's how good they're gonna be. They were number two
last year, right, there were number two seed last year. Yes,
but you know that Celtics did win the division, Hey,
Coty by like fifteen games. But you also Heltics say, well,
you also got Doc the air of the Celtics. But
we got Doc again. Doc still has a job. He
(30:15):
still has the job.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Hey, man, that's a job. That top seat at ESPN
is open right now.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Jason, guess what else you got? Hey, I like to
go back. I wouldn't mind going I could do both.
Speaker 4 (30:27):
I could.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
Hey, I know, Godleep's doing both. He's doing a show.
He's coaching a team. I could do a show. I
could do the games. I could coach my team. I
could do everything. I could do. I can do it.
I'm Doc Rivers and well, no matter what happens, it's
not my fault. Just like that's where it is. Just
don't blame me, and I'll do both jobs. I can
do it both. It's awesome.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
Yeah, you're gonna hate me for the tweet I just
said out because you're shit. You're getting hopeful again and
we played the Taylor swift repeatedly in the past. This
is why we can't have nice things.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
So that said, how about a Fresca exit swollen down
the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon.
If you're still my best friend, Mike Harmon, I mean,
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
The problem doesn't really set me up like a like
a best friend. It's like a mocking you the whole way.
But you know that's what we do. You know.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
I like the fact he threw up, like right after
he threw a pitch too, Like this was like afour
a pitch like this was he throws a pitch, he
gets fouled off and just yeah, just just barfs right
after he throws out and used.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
To do that during football practice during two shows. Sure, sure, Rally,
you just tried to be you know, get to the
sidelines as much as you could since you were working
in the trenches.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
But you know it happens. Fox Sports Radio, The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon. Okay, so
coming up next, I know, well, with the Knicks trade,
we're going to the finals. I mean, it's such a
big deal. But a coaching change in sports that you
gotta here to believe. That's next right here, Jayson.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon. Weaked, he said, ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific, Fox.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon, and wow, up and up until Yeah, congratulations
LaVar Ball. I know you've been trying to get all
your kids on one team for years, the Knicks. The
Knicks are getting all the Nova Knicks together. Philanova's getting
all the guy I've been trying to do this for
five years now, trying to get Lonzo and Jello and yeah,
all on the same team.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
But Jason, but Jason, LaVar Ball does win because Lonzo
ball I was able to exercise a player option for
twenty one point five million dollars with the no that
despite not playing for two years.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
Yeah, yeah, it's true. But I'm saying he wanted to
get all his kids together, and so I get it.
You know that the Knicks are saying, hey, if you
went to Villanova, we could do that for you. Yeah,
but isn't this a bigger victory? And then come on,
think about the victory lap on that one. No, it's
bigger for the Knicks because we're winning the finals. Now
go New York, Go New York.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
Yeah, you can't even beat the Pacers.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Statue, Just stop, man, dudeude, you're Dodgers kidding the White Sox.
It's like three to three in the ninth in it.
Come on, really sorry, b So up until the big
mccal bridges trade to the Knicks happened, this was gonna
be the top story of the night. Last night, we
watched Tennessee win the College World Series. They beat Texas
(33:18):
A and M best of three. A and M won
the first game, and in a very quick amount of time,
Jim Schlosnagel, who was the head coach. It's always weird
if baseball has a head coach, but okay, whatever.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
It's not. It's close to Bashnagel, but not quite.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
He leads A and N to its first Men's College
World Series Championship Series, and there is a lot of
rumors going around last night that hey, schlos Nagle, maybe
this is it for him because Texas big time opening
and he could wind up being the next head coach
at Texas. Today he was named the head coach at Texas. Okaya,
(33:53):
before guys go, guys do really well in a tournament
and get named a head coach somewhere else, we see
that happen. Yeah, so okay, I get it. Yeah, arrival
x A and N to Texas, I get it. But
this was schlas Nagel last night, the last question he
got of his press conference following A and m's loss
to Tennessee. This is how he answered the question about, Hey,
(34:14):
there's a lot of rumors out there, Jim, that you
could be going to Texas. Can you speak about that?
This is what he said.
Speaker 5 (34:20):
Yeah, I mean, I think he's pretty selfish of you'd
ask me that question. To be honest with you, but
I left my family to be the coach at Texas
A and M. I took the job at Texas A
and M to never take another job again. And that
hasn't changed in my mind.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Well, apparently eighteen hours later, something really big happened because
he changed his mind and now he's a coach at Texas.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
Oh my god.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
You know, there's a way to deflect this, and there's
a way to look like an absolute jackass, and that's
exactly what he did. I left my family to coach
Texas A and M. Okay, so I guess, hey, you're selfish,
and you know how I know you're selfish.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
Let me tell you.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
Let me tell you. I left my family game recognized game. Okay,
so your self has questioned myselfish? So Texas greater than
Texas A and M greater than Jim Schloschnagel's family to say,
I took the job at A and M so I
wouldn't take another job. And then you take the job
the next day, like you had to know if this
was gonna happen, Like there's no way this was. Well,
(35:23):
last night, I'm not doing it, not doing it. And
then today Texas called and said we're gonna give you
all of this all now I'm taking the job. Like
first of all, he owes that reporter in apology and
what just an awful look this guy, this guy, I mean,
he looked like a complete and total jerk by deciding
I'm gonna be combative over a question I could easily
blow off when full well, hey, in eighteen hours, my
(35:45):
answer is gonna change. Right, Like, he just looked like
a complete and total jackass in this situation, and they
call it like I see it because that's what he did.
There's other ways to do it, other ways to be
classy and say things like, hey, not talking about that
right now. We just lost a championship game. Let's talk
about that another time. Anything you could have done. But
I'm gonna be combative. I'm gonna mention my family, and
(36:06):
I'm gonna say I took this job so I could
never take another job. That's like when Nick Saban till
everybody the Dolphins, guys, I'm not going to Alabama, and
then he goes to Alabama the next day. What a
jackass he looks like.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Man, No, there's plenty of plenty of those. Immediately started
thinking of the Caden, some rowdy roddy piper talking to
Bob Orton, not only did you embarrass and Paul Orndorf, Right,
it's like you not only you embarrass me, you embarrassed Ace.
There's Bob Orton over there with this cast on for
three years. You embarrassed you troll family. Uh, you keep
(36:37):
my family out of this and then they start fighting. Ah,
that's exactly what happened here. Like, apologize it a guy. No,
it's the greatest moment of this reporter's life. He's gonna
be on everybody's show. Are you kidding me? How did
to feel when he tried to belittle you by saying
this and you had to scoop?
Speaker 1 (36:54):
I mean that's it.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
It gets his fifteen minutes of fame on it. I'm no,
it's not embarrassing for the reporter. He asked the question,
the guy will jacket.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
It was an eighteen hour embarrassment. Until then everything changed.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
No, no, no, no, no, it wasn't an embarrassment to
the reporter, was an embarrassment to the coach and remained such. No,
it was the only guy he's got to apologize. Judy's
a man in the mirror, being a dope.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
He didn't take the gig last night. He was still
the head coach at A and M. Last night. Everything
was fine this guy. Okay, you asked me, I'm gonna
make fun of you. Now. Hopefully he lets him get
the honor of the first question as introductory press conference. Hey, coach,
remember me, I asked you about Texas. You told me
I was a selfish just can he expand on that?
Speaker 3 (37:35):
Hey? Did my question send you down a deep dark
path of knowledge and introduction to a new job.
Speaker 1 (37:43):
We'll have more on this and the big breaking news
out of the NBA next Right here, Jason and Mike,
this is Fox Sports Radio.
