You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, welcome in sigh The Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Harmon. YO our three live from the
Tirack dot Com studios. Tirac dot com. We'll help you
get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tiraq dot
com is the way tire buying should be. Well, So

(00:51):
I sent the broom sweep jift to my dad and
Fabiao good. I sent them the picture of the box
score of the Mets Yankees game with the Mets logo
replacement by a picture of Grimace. Okay, uh so we'll
see what I get. Well, you have a got no response.
I'm telling you they're both gonna be no fun. They're
both gonna say call me when you've won twenty six
championships or who won the last World Series? Who won

(01:13):
we played in two thousand, It's like no fun. It's
like the Yankee fans are no funds. That's all they
want to say is, oh, but look o great we
are Look go great, We've been for a hundred years. Great. Thanks,
that's a great compan It's no fun. It's no fun.
How about you text Michael Kay. I don't know Michael Kay,
but but but see what kind of response he gives
you right now? Tell them why he has got the

(01:34):
best broadcast, the best broadcast booth in the game. Yeah, no,
s n. Why does he got penny? Because they were,
they were, They had a little bit of an exchange.
They brought it up in the booth with Ron and Keith.
They're insane if they think that their booth is better
than the Mets. Bro the Mets have the best and
it's not even clear. Yeah, but he gave him a

(01:55):
whole other segment about it was it was the best, right,
So uh for those unaware in these social media because
this is fun verbal slap fights the Mets. They're they're
running an ad during the Michael k Show in New
York talking about, hey, catch all the action for this
series from the best broadcast booth in the game, right

(02:17):
and and here it is and sell it out and
Kay comes back from the commercial break and he just
loses his mind. What it was it? They're running out
on my show and they don't think I'm gonna respond
like now you're giving it fifteen minutes of them telling you, okay,
first of all, Battle, First of all, you're not mad
at Ron, Gary and Keith. You're mad at your own

(02:38):
network for taking that money, when if you're the Yankees,
you could take anybody's money. We're gonna run something that
that runs counter programming to this. But the pettiness that
so great though, great. But then they were like, yeah,
we met a guy who's working, you know, he replacing
you know, John Sterling after his retirement, a fantastic young broadcaster.

(02:59):
And Darling goes, how do they how does he feel
about our broadcast? And Herz loses it, just laughing pretty hard.
I mean really, I mean, well, the Mets have the
best broadcast booth and they've had it for years. Whether
whether keithr Nandez really cares or if he's sleeping, it
makes no difference. How Oh yeah, yeah, well Scully was Scully,

(03:24):
but Scully wasn't really a Scully was. That was different
because he was himself. You're talking about a guy doing
a game by himself. That's not a booth, that's a
that's a flipping king, right. I mean he's doing what
he's doing everything, he's doing three people's jobs all by himself. Well,
you're talking about a booth. But you want you want
a great story about the Mets broadcast. Yeah, okay, So
this is like it's about ten years ago, right, and

(03:47):
it was it was an NFL network and we were
in New York, uh doing a week long draft beginning
of the year draft manifesto kind of shows. Right, We're
in New York at the Theater and we're doing the
shows live from there, and we had football players coming on.
But it was it was a big event. And you know,

(04:07):
we go into makeup every day before you get on
the show. We go into makeup, and the woman doing
my makeup starts. We start talking and she's really nice,
really really attractive, really hot, and we're just talking and
and she said, well, like the well that comes into
the face and it comes you were having a flashback
and it comes and no, trust me that it comes back.

(04:28):
Did you give her a hat? No? No, no, no,
trust no trust me. This this story is doesn't go
where you think it's good. It's gonna a good, much
better place. I don't know about seven times. I don't
know if I ever told this story. And I don't
think you ever told the story before. You've told us
of other interactions events, because that was actually at one
of them at one point. Okay, all right, So so
she's doing my makeup and we're talking, and she says, oh,
are you from New York right, We're all from l

(04:49):
a com. I said, oh, originally I am. Actually says
oh you are really? I said yeah. I said, yeah,
grew up in Staten Island and this is where I'm from.
And you know, I live in living in Los Angeles
now my wife and daughter and I would live here.
Oh that's good. She says, oh, yeah, I'm from here too,
and and and my husband's worked here for a long time.
And I said, oh really. I said, oh that's cool,
and she goes, yeah, yeah, you know he's in the business.
And I'm going okay, and I'm expecting her to say,

(05:11):
you know, he's a director, or he's this, he's that,
And she I said, oh, what does he do and
she says, oh, well, he's the he's the color analyst
for New York Mets Television SNY. And I said, I said,
you're married to Ron Darling and she said, I am.
I said, you're Joanna Darling because he would talk about
his wife on the show. You're Joanna? She goes, yes.
I go, oh, my god, do I met you? My

(05:33):
favorite Team eighty six. So she goes, let me call
him so you could talk to him. And she tried
to call him on the phone. And I'm saying to
myself and I tell my friends this, and I'm like oh,
and they said to me, well, I forget who was.
One of them said to me, you're probably the first
guy that's ever met her that's wanted to talk to
her about her husband. Could be Oh, she was good.

(05:55):
Let me try to call and she stops to him
make him. Tries to get Ron Darling on the phone.
It's like ten o'clock in the morning. Best friend, Yeah, hey,
I got a guy here who knows you the ones
you really blew that one Smith? Well, he didn't answer
the phone. She said, I'll try. I said, no, you
don't need to call. Well, you're also not really from
New York City. It's Ten Island's not New York City,

(06:15):
and it's it's it's it's one of the five in Manhattan.
It's one of the five boroughs. We're there. That was,
it was it's not Manhattan. But then again the Mets
playing queens, so you know, it's okay. But that was
I was like, you're Johanna darl You're married to Ron Darling,
and you're Johanna Darling. I felt like ben wa Black.
I figured out these I know who you are. You're

(06:35):
married to Ron Darling. Yes, I do. And the next
three days we were like best friends. Hey, Jason, how
you doing ay? Joanna? How you doing?

Speaker 3 (06:42):
Mother?

Speaker 1 (06:42):
How's rawing on? To cut the game last night? This
all this time is great? Yeah, asked Yeah, how's hell nor?
Hey run out of good gayly he said this, he
said this, or like, yeah, Jason, that's a great story.
And it's still only the second best Booth Matt story there. Well,
you and I almost sharing an elevator with Keith Nanda,

(07:05):
that's the best one. Well, we were at Doctor Stadium
really trying to get on the elevator, and Hernandez got on.
It tru for trying to get on, and and the
person who was taking care of the elevator because it's
a media elevator, No, no, you can't get on. Well,
we have too many We're like just turns around, he goes,
We're almost on the elevator with Keith r. Nandez. Yeah,

(07:27):
that would have been great, been great if we got
on with Keith. You would have harassed Keith Hernandez. But
just the fact that she said that, she says, oh yeah, no,
but he's the color analyst for just kind of dropped that,
like his official title right, like, oh, my my husband's
Ron Darling, Like oh okay, yeah, and I would saying

(07:47):
stuff like ten and three at the All Star break
is rookie Year, all the stuff that I knew about
Darling off the top of my head. I'm like, oh yeah,
let me let me call him, try to get him
on the phone. The fact that she still went through
and was trying to make the call, even after all
of that creepiness you exhibited, it's a little little frightening.
Oh that was great, Jason, Who the hell is Ron Darling.

(08:09):
Ron Darling is okay if you're been paying attention to
last time trying former met The Darlings were in Peter
Pan for her Mets star pitcher who now is Mets
color analysts for sn Y TV, and it's widely regarded
as being in the best baseball broadcast booth in the country.
At least they pay for advertising that says that, yeah, yeah,
you said s s n Y. I was like, what

(08:30):
did they do Saturday and the night live for base
Live from New York. It's the New York. Well, the
Mets have been a comedy act for many, many years.
But just just I remember the recognition on my face
of you're Joanna. You're married now interior design Joanna Darling.
Oh that she does not? Yeah awesome, Like I said, Hey,

(08:51):
we were hot and heavy for three days. You know
that was it was it well, you know we were
friends and then but then you know, like in the industry,
it happened Mets back home. I think she got all
the Mets she could possibly want. I don't think she
did wanting for here here's my Met, here's my Mets
tie from the parade in nineteen eighty six when they
won here. Here's the tie I wore on this this shoot.

(09:11):
Thanks for making it look so good. Here you go,
here you go. Thank you. Oh that was great. It
was a great mom like, oh my god, I met
Joanna Darling. That's so cool. See. I always enjoyed when
we did stuff at the lot where they just started
telling you random tales. Whoa what about people that have
guested and kind of popped in for a day and
some of the weird things. Uh huh, yeah, No, that's

(09:32):
that's you know, the institutional memory cannot be denied. There's
plenty of book that could be written if there weren't
so many NDAs in this town. And so we'll have
more on the Mets sweep of the Yankees, because boy,
Yankee fans are losing it. But the NBA draft ends,
and we'll have you know, obviously, we'll have a lot
on this coming up through that the next few minutes

(09:52):
on the show. But really, we told you a couple
of weeks ago it's really gonna be about one guy.
And I'm surprised there was more coverage about Bronnie James tonight.
Maybe they all knew, Look, the guy's not getting drafted tonight.
Let's not go crazy. Let's make it about the guys
getting drafted. But tomorrow I guarantee you is gonna be
a full Bronnie Knight. Can Bronnie go here? Can Bronnie go? Here?

(10:14):
Is this where Bronni can go? Can Bronnie? Look? They
added an extra night to the draft specifically for Bronnie James.
Where he gets drafted is going to be the story.
And we already saw now wasn't close to getting drafted
in the first round. He's gonna go fifty five to
the Lakers. It's going to happen. Right. We mentioned this
and the reasons why, and it all makes sense. No,

(10:36):
you don't always want to do something because you want
to worry about risking upsetting an agent. But do you
really want clutch sports on your bad side? Do you
want to get into a situation where Rich Paul is
upset that you drafted as client maybe makes it impossible
to sign and trying to sign your second round pick
is impossible because I don't want him to sign there,
and you get involved in a battle of wills that

(10:57):
you don't need, especially because Bronnie James is not a
great prospect. He's a guy that I'm sure a lot
of teams didn't even have on their draft boards. But
he's lebron James's kid, And when you're talking about drafting
for a potential, yeah, okay, I could take a word
of Bronnie James, but I could take a world a
bunch of other people too. I could take a whirl
on Judah Mintz, I can take a whirl on Kyle Philipowski.
This is all what you do in the second round

(11:19):
of a draft. So for other teams, it's not like, boy,
if they're steering us away from Bronnie James, that's wrong. Teams,
I don't even think they put more than five seconds
of thought into it. Yeah, we're not gonna draft Ronnie.
Why we're not gonna get involved in that. Let the
Lakers take him and see how it goes. So when
fifty five comes, the Lakers will take him. It's the
end of the draft. It's not a great draft. There's
not tons of players that you have to have, and

(11:41):
in the end, the Lakers will do it as kind
of a favor to him, which kind of happens across
the board. In the NBA, you do things for your
best players, and no one's gonna be upset. Lakers players
aren't gonna be mad because they know Bronni's gonna spend
his next two years in the G League. He needs minutes,
he needs time. There's gonna be fun photo opportunities in
the in camp with them. Maybe they're on the court

(12:02):
at the same time in practice, maybe they're on the
in the game at the same time. I'm sure that'll
happen a couple of times. Hey, Lebron gets to share
the court with his kid for a little bit here.
That's fun. But then eventually he's gonna be in the
G League. They're not gonna suddenly say, hey, hey, JJ
Reddick gets what you gotta play this kid forty minutes tonight?
Wait what Yeah, how we're gonna keep Lebron happy, It's not.
The next couple of years will be just fine. He's

(12:22):
gonna be developing the G League. That's how it's gonna go.
If there was gonna be ever any blowback on it,
I would tell you. But they're gonna leave him out
there for the Lakers to take. They're gonna allow the
Lakers to take Bronnie James. And that's how it's gonna
unfold for the next two years for lebron Bronny and
the Lakers. Yeah, I say it bluntly. I am worried
about Rich Paul and whether he gets upset uh in

(12:44):
what the ramifications are. But look, how embarrassing is it
if Okay, we drafted Bronnie James and then he says,
we're not signing with you. How embarrassing is that that
now you're in a very public back and forth about
not signing your second round pick. You don't need that, right,
you don't need that, you don't want That's okay, we're
gonna move. Oh but again, you don't know who he's
gonna have later on in his career. So boy, he
loves to go oh but boy, yeah, Clutch Sports has

(13:05):
been they're still pissed because we draft Brownie a couple
of years ago. But in the end, it's still you're
the teams. You're in charge, right, you can't give one
weight to one agency. And to your point, yeah, eventually,
maybe they've got a bunch of guys. Right now, they've
got three guys that are at the two or near
the end of their career and one is on the backside. Right,

(13:25):
we still have Anthony Davis got a couple of big years,
great anticipation of what he might be able to do
this year. The other two guys are Lebron James and
Draymond Green. Draymond's gonna be sit with us soon enough,
and Lebron once he got two years maybe three years left.
Rest of that roster ain't so bad. It's so scared
of what they've got and clout as far as that goes.

(13:48):
But no, I get your point. But if legitimately you've
scouted him and you think, hey, this guy could be
a player for us, then then too bleep and bad,
we didn't work out for you, Or maybe you don't
love my GM as much as you love the idea
of him here here or here. But as for the
Lakers themselves, like once the inevitable does happen and he
shows up, you've been talking about it for months, like

(14:10):
this is not gonna be surprise. Look what we got. Hey,
they added a second night to the draft for this
staff and for Crafty five the Lakers the spotlights. They're
gonna go down on the floor, They're gonna play music.
Adam Silver is gonna step to the microphone and make
the call maybe they let lebron say it. Maybe. Yeah,
he'll come out say, there you go, Hey, the Lakers

(14:32):
pick me, Junior, There you go, the Lakers, my son.
He does it in his best Sean Connery Junior, I'll
take shorts for five hundred, the Lakers take my kid. Oh,
I'm telling you fifty five tomorrow. That's where Bronny goes

(14:53):
and and hashtag fifty five. What if that's his number?
What if that's the number he picks to wear? Always
a reminder where I went in the draft. That was
a reminder. Guys. Imagine Yeah, the Magic Johnson tweets we
would have gotten had the Celtics taken Brownie James. Oh, well, well,
we'll have enough for the Magic Johnson Twitter game tomorrow.
And I'm not too worried about that. Well, haven't we

(15:15):
change the instrow to like Celtics fan? Uh? Sure, it's true.
It's not gonna be a show tomorrow night if you
don't break. Coming up next, we get back into the
biggest story of today in the NBA, and it wasn't
about the draft. Wait what Yeah, that's next right here.
Jason and Mike.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon Live from Thetirack dot Com Studios, Round
one of the NBA Draft in the books and let
me just say, let me just address the elephant in
the room. Yeah, did we really need it? After today?
The Knicks bringing Ognu Nobi back two hundred and twelve
million dollars could have got more money out on the market,

(16:52):
but decided, no, I'll take a little bit less to
come back a day after the Knicks make the big
trade for mckel bridges. Did we even need the Knicks?
You're winning the time next year? Oh? I thought you.
I thought it was more just you didn't need the
draft because you hadn't done your homework on players. Oh no, no, no, no,
we didn't do Nobody knew who any of these people were. Yeah,
you need to do now. The Knicks winning the title
doesn't matter draft for a year from now. What does

(17:13):
it matter a year from now? Right off the joke too,
that's great, But I tune in for the broadcast as
I'm driving in, I got the draft, and and then
I'm flipping back and forth. I got the Dodgers on
AM five seven E LA Sports. I beloved white sox
and a shoe an totty swag it along like, are
you kidding? Man? It's great? But really, the Knicks won

(17:35):
the championship tonight, No, they did not. Adam Silver should
have started the draft by walking up on stage saying,
welcome to the NBA Draft. Everybody collapsed, and then he
gets on there and he said he nods at everybody,
and then he says, now, normally this is where we
started announcing the picks, but instead, look you also what
the Knicks have done the last couple of days. They
trade for mckel Bridges, they re signed o Gano Nobi. Uh. Look,

(17:58):
they're winning the title next year, so we're gonna take
this moment to give the Larry O'Brien Trophy to the Knicks,
and Brunson walks on stage cast on his hand, Josh Hart.
All the Lenova guys get to walk on first, even Bridges,
who they just got. He's got no Knicks gear yet,
but like Jalen, Brunson's takes takes his Knicks hat off
and gives it to him. All the other Knicks come out,
and a Nooby comes out, Timms comes out with his

(18:19):
arms folded. We're in the big tracksuit, and they touch
the trophy and say, okay, we'll email out the results
of the draft and then you guys will see you
next year for the NBA Draft, because the Knicks are
your twenty twenty four, twenty five NBA champions. And when
you awoke from the Fever Dream didn't need it. Fever
Dream they played two weeks ago. Yeah, they'll play again,

(18:41):
fever Dream, and they'll play again and again and again,
although I think they've shuffled up the schedule so it's
unbalanced towards Fever skygame. Heres we need to do. We
need to make Fever Sky play every Sunday. Remember when
we talked about putting the Yankees and the Red Sox
on every Sunday night baseball. Let's put the Fever in
the Sky on every single every Sunday. And you see

(19:02):
how it's starting to creep back further in the day
into poor prime time like windows. But it's like their
own big neon kickoff for the box, you know. Now
we have the big, the big nude tip off for
Fever and Scott all right, but yeah, so you you know,
you're talking about the inevitability of this, and that's great.
I appreciate you. The odds are all the way down
to seven and a half to one for your knicks.

(19:24):
Think about it was seventeen to one. It's a star
at the start of business. Yes, damn dollar, dude, I
want by two dollars. It was seventeen to one. Now
it's seven and a half to one. Just like that,
we're trying to get those people's money. Money. Oh no,
I have to leave money, suckers. But you know, look

(19:46):
when we're looking at the Knicks and we're being honest,
like as you described your guys, there's Jalen Brunson with
the catst on his hand. There's all of these players
that you've had battle test and even O g On
Andobi fantastic when he played because because like you were
at running Alvarez stats before for the Mets, right when

(20:07):
he plays not thirty, yeah, the Rojas when he gets
a hit, the undefeated Dodgers, all of that stuff. That's
all fighting good. But when when you use those stats,
it usually means guys aren't in the lineup every day,
or they've had injuries that kept him for long periods
out of the lineup. And for the Knicks, the more

(20:29):
you hype it up, the harder the disappointment is. Because
the best is going in with expectations of, hey, we
could be pretty good, we could make some noise. Not
what you're doing. King Kong ain't got blank on me.
Let's give us a title right now. Let's just don't
even play the hundred plus. You don't need to look

(20:50):
the Knicks right now, whether you love them, hate them,
love me talking about them, hate me talking about but
oh Tommy Homer. No, that's great, and we'll get to
that because we have to talk about who the real
MVP of the National League is Otani or Grimace. We'll
get into the we'll get in that's we know, all
of a sudden, that's a tough one. Man, that's a
tough one. But eight seven, the Knicks eight man rotation

(21:12):
is the best rotation in the NBA. They have the
top one through eight players in the entire league. It's
better than the Celtics. You have porzingis now surgery and
he may miss the beginning of the season. You're the
guy you put a cast on the man's hand. It's
it's gonna be off inime for the season. The Knicks
don't play for a few months. None of their none
of their eight players are over twenty nine. They're all

(21:35):
in their twenties. And Knicks have a two to three
year window to win the championship. I don't know how
they spent all this money because it's not like heart
was cheap and Devincenzo was cheap, but they found a
way to do it. And you're talking about Brunson Bridges
and Unobi Randall Robinson, who may get dealt I'm filming,
he may get delt. But you're talking about Devincenzo and
Josh hart coming off the bench McBride coming off the

(21:56):
bench one through eight. There is not a more talented
roster in the game than what the Knicks have right now.
Still some speculation that Hartenstein signs for for less money. Again,
where all this money comes from. Yeah, it's kind of
like the old NFL math. You know, it doesn't make
any sense. They have the apron, that's that's that's the keyword. Now,
second the apron, the ap apron, second apron, all of

(22:19):
that crap apron, it's all fun. It's the apron, stretch provisions,
the apron. Yeah, I was gonna throw all this third right,
you name it. We got it all. Yeah, just like
when you watch House and you start throwing around medical
terms that you think you know because you say, yeah, subduralhema, telma,
I could cure that, yeah, one hundred percent, Yeah, absolutely,
no question, absolutely, Yeah, I just have this pen knife. Yeah,

(22:41):
we have A. We have a cracked a order. Yeah,
you know I can, I could, I can figure that out.
That that's no problem right now. I just happened to
have my uh my liquid paper handy. It'll it'll solve that, right.
So the A twenty four, A twenty seven proteins are
not gonna do their job here. You need the end
zyme and that I just you just not just throw
it all these turts. But look, seriously, A twenty four,
the one that tears you apart? Is that why they

(23:03):
named it that in that movie The Midsummer Yeah, but
this is a title or bust season. No, sure, I'm
not saying that a presumption they walked through. Give me
a team one Pacer Sports. No, they don't even have one.
They won even if if we won in seven and

(23:24):
we had not just one injury, okay, one injury to it. Okay,
that's the way. Remember the Pacers almost took down the
Celtics three. I know they got swept at all, but
it's the most competitive sweep in NBA history. I mean,
the Lakers got knocked down from that perge after one year.
I also won seventeen champions. There, he goes Walt Okay, Dad,
thanks sad, it's why are you yng fan doesn't make

(23:47):
any help. But this is this is how good that
there's not a team one through eight that's better than
the Pacers. I just told you they were not the Knicks.
Asked not, I'd rather have Brunston Halliburton. So what anybody? Okay,
there you go. It was for in five games. I
know you played seven was a wait, No, this is
not LeVar ball. Do you want to play me one
on one?

Speaker 4 (24:06):
Hey?

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Upset? Because the Knicks are doing what he's wanted to
do his whole family. I want to get all three
of my kids on the same team, and the Knicks
are getting everybody from Villanova on the same team. I
could have done that, and Mike, that team would have
won championship, Like if they had LaMelo and Lonzo and Jello,
Like that team would be winning NBA titles. Like suddenly
they wont every level except for college and pro. Oh okay,

(24:33):
that's fine because they because they won. They won when
they were at Chino Hills. Yeah, they're gonna be great. Yes,
absolutely under SI Yes, yeah, I like the well, you know,
except for college. That was Shack's big line I've wanted
every level except for college and pro like that. What's
gonna happen now? After that Ram, what's gonna happen? Mellow
Ball is gonna run your toe or the Knicks will
have to find a way to make a trade for

(24:53):
Mellow and LUNs. Let's be serious, Jason. I know you.
You can't be serious when it comes to this because
even you don't believe it. With the Knicks, I believe. Oh,
just just stop, man. We're better than the Lakers were
better than.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
You were, not better than anybody. You loss. You got
to own that, dude. You didn't make it out of
the first round. You didn't make it out of the
first round. You and if you and I were in fast.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
And furious and we were dragging, Okay, we're talking about
the Knicks, I would have hit the Noss a little
bit too early and lost. Of the Nuggets who won
the title, No, they from Indianapolis. No, the Nuggets lost
to the Timberwolves, who lost to the Mavericks who lost.
So that's kind of how that you didn't get better?

(25:37):
You know, I once work with a guy named Dragon.
We didn't we didn't get better. How'd you get better?
You gave away five first round picks. Okay, we gave
away nothing off our roster and we and we brought
you got the second and you got five second rounders
back and we brought he went kind of drafting. That
was very good. We're gonna trade five first round picks.
I'm gonna get five. Let's get all the Nova guys
so we can win a college title. Yeah, no, we'll

(25:58):
be fine. Listen, and if something happens the Tims Jay
Wright will just step right in. Everything is good, It's
all good. Man. Mcal Bridges was probably one of the
top three most sought after players this offseason. Hey hey
he was available, Philip, Hey, hey, you guys are missing
the point. Bozellos is now a ball, Okay, coming home. Listen,

(26:20):
Jeff buds Deelic is not not he has not been drafted.
I'll let you guys fight it out then go. Yeah,
he's got to play above the ram beat. Lonzo Ball
is going to actually get back on a court after
opting into his twenty one point p Where did he play?
Where was he? Where'd you where'd you draft the guy from?
Where'd you draft him? From? G league elite? Oh? Okay,

(26:40):
but in in the early draft you know, mock drafts.
He was the top five guys. Okay, all right, he
plays above the ram name for the next the league elite.
He's a good uh, he's a good trash talker. He says,
don't emulate me on the court, because he gets after it. Yes, guy,
I don't know about a guy saying don't. If you're

(27:00):
a good player, i'd want people to emulate you. No, no, no, no,
not that part of this game. Yeah, but maybe that's
what he meant. No, No, that's what he knoww Listen,
I'm not that good. Look, I'll make a big play
and then I'll know it. All my highlights were photoshopped.
I had to do any of these things. This is
not me. No, he could be fun. It's actually it's
actually it. Look it's my face on Mickelbridge's body. That's
what happened. I mean, this might get them to the

(27:22):
eleventh spot in the Eastern Conference. I mean, come on,
where zach Levine couldn't get you? This is where you are,
Zach Levine. They're going to trade him for a bucket
of balls. Just like telling you, man, look the knicks
that you can't argue that how great this Rosches did
not successfully absolutely successfully. Now I'm getting flooded here on Twitter.
People believe in no, no, no, you not don't lie.

(27:45):
I didn't beat the Pacers. Yeah, I had a couple
of ones on Twitter. I can't even read. Okay, we
were a game away because he got reached. Doesn't win.
We lost four guys last year, not one or two.
But you're adding you're you're adding another point a game
player who's a great defensive player. Good luck. You want
to look you can. If you got mckal bridges, you'd

(28:05):
be walking around here with your Lakers hat, Laker shirt,
coing championship, YO championship, YO championship. Yes, what do we
need make Bridges? He got Connected? Yeah, that guy's gonna
shoot the lights out next. You're gonna say better than
Anthony Davis. Lebron already said was talking about him. It's
like you you tuned in for Tennessee and Purdue. You
got Zach Edy and you got Connect. Those are two guys.

(28:27):
Lebron James made this pick and JJ Reddick got to
celebrate it in the in the war room. Look even
at your best Lakers versus Nicks. Right, let's be saying,
let's just say, let's just say you put ads players. No no, no, no,
you put a d and Lebron against and Randall. Let's

(28:48):
just say, right, okay, so let's give that to the Lakers.
Look at this, I'm I'm I'm giving right. You want
to put those two guys, you can just give me
Anthony Davis and Lebron. We're not up against like it's
NBA J. It's NBA JAM and Julius Randall. I'll give
you saying the Lakers are the title. I will give
you the Lakers on up against the Lakers. The next

(29:09):
six spots all go to the Knicks. All go to
the Knicks. The next finish second in the East. If
they were healthy, they would have beaten the Pacers. We
know they would have. They were down to four guys
and in the last game. Yeah it happens. Injuries happened
to your team's especial four guys and then five going
out of your top eight rotation actually going again come

(29:32):
next year. Of course, they all don't have to play
minutes like they used to. Wait wait, wait, they get hurt,
but here's the twenty five minutes a game. What offering
are you going to make to the basketball gods before
the playoffs next year. You think you can run through
the Eastern Conference. That'd be great, ready, because the Bucks
did that for a good chunk of the season and
then what they get they got docked. Do you okay,

(29:54):
they got docked. Do you really think I haven't reached
out to some sort of karmac forces for the last
two days is to be Bridges and Unobi and the
sweep of the Yankees. I'm just saying that it reached out. Look,
Kyrie Irving thought he had it all figured out. Sage
Brush didn't do him a damn bit. A good part
of my gett ate of any of those demons from Boston.
The smart thing is you don't sell all of your soul.

(30:15):
You just sell tiny parts of it because the devil's
coming back for the rest of it. Yeah, but if
I do it a little bit at a time, Okay,
it's Grimace was just a gift. They were just a gift.
He's a gift that keeps on giving best eight man
rotation in the end, like the chargeable batteries at Christmas.
Who's the biggest star coming out of this draft. We'll

(30:36):
tell you next. Jason and Mike Fox. The most dominating
team of the last ten years is Brian Finley.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
And be sure to catch live editions of The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
Fox Sports Radio. And there's The Jason Smith Show with
my bes friend Mike Harmon. As long as you get
the on camera on somebody getting paid, done it on
camera with Mike fifty or sixty times? How many? How many?
With you? And Grimace? Oh dude, come on, we'll get
to Grimace in a few minutes. We'll get to a
big We'll get to a big debate with Grimace coming

(31:10):
up in a few minutes. But wait, Grimace is joining
the show for grimis Man grimmath Off. But round one
of the NBA Draft in the books. We have round
two tomorrow. It's a big Bronnie night. We'll have more
on Browny next hour. But the best pick tonight. And
if you had to say to me, who's the guy

(31:31):
who's gonna be the big star coming out of this draft,
It's gonna be Steph Castle. I would have taken him
number one overall watching him play at Yukon. I'm always
not the I'm not always the biggest fan of Hey,
the guy can do more than he showed, because I
go back to JJ McCarthy, if the guy is so great,
what did he play great? But on that loaded Yukon team,
he didn't have to do a lot of things that

(31:52):
you knew he could do. He can handle the ball well,
he can shoot well. He is a phenomenal defender. You
watch in the NCAA tournament, he was able to shut
down different scorers from all different walks of life, whether
it was Shannon, your guy, Boo Booie and it was
like it was a machine. This kid is phenomenal. I'll
admit I'll be the first guy to say I'm not

(32:14):
up on all the big French players and how good
they can be, but I know watching Steph Castle the
guy he can be. And they got an absolute gem
at number four. I can't believe he stayed till number four.
But with him and Wemby, lookout, he's the guy that's
going to be the star coming out of this draft.
I could just say with with Boo Booie and you know,
like you're doing with all your knicks for this year, boy,
if we would have been healthy, we could have given

(32:34):
them a better game. Two rotational players starters not available
off of that game. Anyway, I'm going read Shepherd, the
guy picked right ahead of it, looking at what Houston
is and he plays defense, yep. And he's a guy
that can get after quick hands averaged what two and
a half steals in his near thirty minutes a game.

(32:55):
So he's a guy that I think can come in
and be an impact player on a team on the rise.
That's where this gets kind of fun because you got
the Rockets and the Spurs sitting there as the next right,
Because when we're talking about the Lakers and what they're doing,
we're talking about the other teams in the Western Conference
and the moves they're making. I still don't understand the

(33:15):
the we're gonna trade this thirty thirty first pick in
what is it, two thousand and thirty and an unprotected
I mean, that's that's that's a good trade. It happens
so far in the future. I feel like we need
animation of the years to fly across the screen that
look like what we think animation is gonna look like

(33:35):
in six years. Twenty thirty one flies across the screen
and we see it with stars and stuff coming, Like
Dillingham goes to the Timberwolves and and he's a guy
that was, you know, highly touted or whatever. Yeah, but
like the Pixers six years from now, I's like, how
is this good? But whatever, people like it or they don't.
But there are two teams in the Western Conference that

(33:57):
did themselves some pretty big favors with guys that are
gonna make immediate impact. The Rockets young team on the rise. Again.
Talking about how loaded the Western conferences, here are two
more teams that are gonna be on the rise as
you try to hold your place atop the conference standings.
I wasn't a big fan of the Dillingham trade. Says, well,

(34:18):
he's the best pure shooter in the draft, and that's
what you need. People love shooters, so there was a
bit of a head scratcher for me for San Antonio.
But Castle and Wemby, I mean, this is what you
want if you are if you are an NBA team,
you want guys that can shoot and guys that can
play defense. And he can do it all. Like he's
a great combo guard. He can handle the ball, he
can shoot, He's gonna do more in the NBA. He's

(34:39):
gonna be given more responsibility. He does everything you want.
He does everything you want out of a guard. He's
not one dementia. If you get a guy that can shoot,
you think you're happy. If you get a guy that
can play defense, you're really happy. You're the guy who
can do both. You're doing backflips and that's what Castle is.
And I mean watching him in the tournament, what he
did defensively, good luck, Right, everybody wants those wing plays

(35:00):
that can defend. Good luck trying to figure him out
over the course of the next few years. Good luck. No,
it's gonna be a fun and fun rise up if
they can become a good NBA jam duo. As you've
alluded to multiple times, exit out about a Fresco exit
swalling down the Jason smith Stone with Mike Carmon coming
up next, a debate that I don't think anybody's ever

(35:23):
had in the history of sports. Fox
