(00:49):
the way tire buying should be. Now, as we dive
in a little bit to some NBA draft talk, non
Bronnie James related Arnie.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
Right, and I'm gonna add another Roman numeral. I think
I'm adding Roman numeral fifteen also.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
So of though, okay, I'll make sure to make that note. Yeah, right,
fifteen x x IVY is that right?

Speaker 5 (01:11):
No, just x V XV.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
That's fourteen is ivy?

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Arnie, you were right, and I was probably listening to
too many of the quote unquote drafting nerds at the time. Yes,
but not only not only did Zach Keaty get drafted
in the first round.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
My man was a lottery pick.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Yeah, yeah, And you all along and said he's going
to be a first round and I'm like, no way,
he's too much of a statue.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
He can't move.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
And then he actually moved a little better this year
for Purdue, and I mean, they nearly got the ultimate payoff.
But Arnie, I'm telling you what that's that's an interesting
pick for the Memphis Grizzlies. That's really one of the
big things that jumped out to me that nobody seemed
to talk about in the first round of the draft.
Like everyone was so caught up in uh dult connect dropping.

(01:58):
Everyone was so caught up in the son Philpowski story,
and then what they had the Marquette guy where there
was a report that.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
He couldn't read.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Certainly got caught up on these stories and everyone just, oh,
it's hilarious.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
We'll get to you later.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
The Zach Eadie draft, I mean the fact that people
were saying he wouldn't even get drafted, that he wasn't
gonna be a first round pick, and he goes at
what number nine.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Overall to the Grizzlies.

Speaker 5 (02:21):
Dak Man.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
I can't wait to see how it works out.

Speaker 6 (02:24):
You know.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
The first thing I want to say with that about
this is that two years ago, not this last season,
but the season before that, I always thought he was
going to be a lot of repick. And then I
heard what a moron I was, that this guy really
has no skills. It's just that he's tall. I'm like, okay,
he's tall, but let's be honest, man. I mean, if
you seen some of these draft picks over the last
couple of years. Last year, was happen to be a

(02:46):
good draft or a decent draft, especially at the top.
This year was, I mean just horrific as far as
I'm concerned. And they're gonna tell me that this guy
can't even be a first round draft pick, you know, Chris,
bigger problems is who's feeding the media this type of nonsense.
Where's the narrative coming from? How could you be so

(03:09):
wrong about something like that where you're telling me a
guy might not even get drafted or go in the
second round and he gets he's taken, you know, in
the lottery.

Speaker 5 (03:20):
You should get fired for that.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
When when you don't know what the hell you're talking about,
you're getting inside chores like that. It's I mean, the
guy's seven to four and had some pretty big games
in the NCAA tournament.

Speaker 5 (03:32):
Why the hell wouldn't.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
Somebody go ahead and take a shot at him after
what he's been put up there, especially in seven to four.
I just don't understand where this information comes from.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Chris.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
You know what's funny is just how quickly everyone moved
past it. I'm thinking to myself, this is a major
moment in this draft, in the twenty twenty four NBA draft,
a draft where the number one pick overall is a
guy and the number one and a two overall pick
is a guy that I don't think either one of
them have ever played a game on ESPN or Fox

(04:06):
or TNT anywhere. We've never seen him before. Just the highlights,
just like we've seen some killer highlights. And where Jay
I I heard Bill Simmons bring this point up the
other day. Jay billis basically said, you know, he's not
really that athletic, he's not really all that great of
a shooter, and he went number one of the draft, Like,
what are we drafting then? But yet, as you've gone

(04:27):
through all these guys we've never heard of, saw whoever
that was out of France that the Hornets drafted, then
all of a sudden, you have the best college basketball player,
maybe from an awards perspective, award winner that we've ever seen,
that went ninth and I don't even nobody even talks

(04:48):
about it. It's it's a guy that goes against all
the traditional norms for what you wanted a player. Right
in nineteen eighty nine, Bro, he would have been the
first pick in the draft and everyone would have lost
their mind. It's a different game twenty twenty four. Dude
can't shoot and he ends up going in the top ten,
and it's just a all right, that's great, let's go
out to pick number ten. I just I thought it

(05:09):
was one of the coolest moments in the draft, and
I wish we would have taken more time to just realize, Hey,
the hell of risk the Memphis Grizzlies have put in
this pick. And the secondly, obviously Zach Edy really improved
his stock as a guy that came back to school
to where everyone's like, oh, you know, the reason that
you're seeing that Dalton connect fall is because he's old.
You know, he's older well, and I don't know if

(05:31):
there's anyone older in the draft than Zach Edy.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
And he went ninth overall.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
I'm wondering had he not gone ninth, how far he
would have dropped, or.

Speaker 5 (05:40):
If he would have dropped it all.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
I think somebody else would have taken a shot at
him and said, we'll take a shot at the seven
to four guy that was the back to back would
an award winner and dominated the NCAA tournament. Of course,
he did have a first round law, so I don't
want to forget about that.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
But well, but then again, he came back and then
played for a natural chance.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
I know, I know, so I wouldn't figure that he
would have dropped all that far. I still thought he
was gonna be like top fifteen or something like that.
So good for him. I think he's still gonna be
a good pick. Some people think they reached it there
was a bad selection. I think maybe a good selection.
He is mostly the draft like this Chris.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
At the very least of the guys that win in
the top ten, he's produced the most.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Yeah, I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
If he's the most out of anybody in the draft, right.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
I don't know if he's gonna be, you know, a
guy that is a starter. I don't know if he's
gonna play like thirty minutes a game or whatever. But
you know you're gonna get stretches in games where he's
gonna be able to put points up and people are
gonna have a problem and it's gonna be a matchup
nightmare in this league. So I'm I can't wait to
see if it works, how it plays out. But I

(06:50):
thought it was one of my favorite moments in the
first round of the NBA Draft. Now, Non Philipowski, Bronnie
and all these other stories related on he was there
anything else from Wednesday night that really kind of stood
out to you in the first round of the draft
outside of how quickly you probably.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Turned a Law and Order or another show?

Speaker 5 (07:07):
You said, Non Philipowski, is that went that was us?

Speaker 6 (07:09):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (07:10):
Yeah, yeah, not really, Like I said, the one thing
that really occurred to me is when I saw the
first two guys from France and matter of fact, what
three of the top six were taken from fans and
one guy from the G League. And I'm saying to myself,
you know, back in the day, and I don't want
to be the old guy, but we knew everybody in
the first round and most of the guys in the
second round.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
And I'm asking myself, is the talent water down so bad?

Speaker 4 (07:36):
Because you know, like I said, you go through some
of the eighties and nineties draft, you have Hall of
Famers on there, you have all stars. I don't know
where I see it in this draft, to be honest
with you, I don't see these guys, you know, becoming
All pros or you know, all stars and dominating and
leading their teams to NBA championships. And you would get

(07:59):
that in just about every draft back in the eighties.
So I think the town level is either watered down
or I'm just I'm just stop seeing the how great
these guys really are.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
You do realize, though, when you try to compare things
to the eighties, you're now going back forty years ago
almost started.

Speaker 4 (08:15):
Right, right, Yeah, I forget about that, But you know,
I'm just basically on Hall of Famers though, Chris, this
is the greatest fight we have.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
Yeah, I mean, you just assume things about guys when
they're drafted, but we don't know if they're going to
become Hall of famers. There might have been ten Hall
of Famers drafted. You have no idea. I don't think so.
I think we kind of got crazy because win bin
Yama's from France.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
We're like, oh, France must play good basketball.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
And I think Wimby's success is going to get about
six GMS fired because they fall in love with a
player with a French background.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
But I don't. I mean, yeah, everyra is going to
have a risk involved. Well mean they put it.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
This way then, since there's a lot of people drafted
from France in this draft, everybody in this draft, first
round and second round, how do I put this politely
in a different language? Garbage? Is that what they say
in France? Garbage? That's what That's what you got out
there in this draft. No disrespect to Bronny or anything
like that.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
But no disrespect. But you're saying the entire time, both.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
Drought and the second round just not a lot of
talent in this draft at all. I just I, if
I had any draft picks, I would have just given
him away for like a dozen basketballs.

Speaker 5 (09:26):
In the case of you who it just had.

Speaker 4 (09:29):
I had no interest in paying big money for some
of these guys.

Speaker 5 (09:32):
I could be proven wrong. Hey, who knows.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
I could be what like Steven A and say there's
not one guy in the NBA that's from this uh,
from this Villanova team that's gonna make it in the
NBA and who knows.

Speaker 5 (09:46):
Yeah, so mean, I could be like that guy. But
I don't.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
Uh, I don't think I'm I'm I'm wrong on that.
I don't see that happening.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
I do want to hit Roman numeral.

Speaker 5 (09:53):
Garbage, that's the way you say garbage and France.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
I believe, so I do want to hit Roman numer
numeral number five at some point on Michel Bridges in
that trade. But before we knew a couple of other
quick draft thoughts, I thought it was the worst job
ESPN's ever done in covering a draft.

Speaker 5 (10:08):
It is mistakes they made. They made a lot.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Yeah, well not just the mistakes, okay, okay, now, not
just to get Fran for Scilla or get somebody on
there that covers what's going on overseas. We have one
person that has seen any of these dudes play in
the Giovanni Givanni guy and I think he's great. But
if you're going to hoard all these rights, at least
gets someone on there who knows something about these guys

(10:33):
and it and watch what the thirty second YouTube clip.
I mean, it's it immediately becomes straight from what happens
or what kind of player is this guy?

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Too?

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Well, I just don't think he's very good. It's like,
you might be right, but this is we're doing this now,
We're doing this now. So I thought I thought ESPN
was really it's one of the worst events they've ever covered.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
Number two.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
It's the first time in a while, Arnie, that I
actually jumped out of my seats when the Lakers did
something on Draft Day. I pumped my fist whenever they
got Dalton Connect.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
I do like him.

Speaker 5 (11:05):
I like him a lot, I really do.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
I thought I wanted for the Lakers. I wanted either well,
I didn't think Dalton Connect would be there. I didn't
think there was any chance that he would be there.
But at seventeen, to not only have him there, but
to take him and not overthink it, I mean, come on,
especially with a team that didn't have anyone that could
consistently knock down a jumper. Now you bring in someoney

(11:27):
connect who not only can knock it down, he can
create his own shot. And the other thing I love
about him on he right, seems like he gets better
every single time he steps on.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
The You know what, people don't understand that you're playing
eighty two games with load management out there.

Speaker 5 (11:40):
Nowadays, these guys.

Speaker 4 (11:41):
Are gonna come in and I'm not saying start, but
they're gonna get significant minutes. And what about like ten
of those games, maybe fifteen of those games? And remember
now there's stretches of the games. You know your team's up,
your team's down, you're pulling the starters. You need to
get a spark in there. He reminds me of a
little bit of like Pritchard, the way Boston uses him
to get that spark at the three point line.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
I like them a lot.

Speaker 5 (12:03):
He's a score.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
I thought it was a really good pick from I
thought the Lakers did well.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
There. Here's the other thing, and it's tired and it's old.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
But beyond say a player that I like, beyond a
move that I liked, dear NBA or whoever, decided to
do this.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Stop with the stupid way we announced trades. Just stop it.
Let it.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
Let him go ahead and get the hat of the
team that they've been traded to. I don't know why
it's it's always so awkward and it's always so confusing.
But just let him announce the trade of the pick.
So I'm actually he's going to be drafted, but his
rights will be sent there. And then Adam Hamos said,
Adam Shine, Adam Silver will announce it four hours after

(12:44):
Twitter has broken for the last you know, I guess ten.
It's just ridiculous how ahead the ahead of the draft
Twitter is. And then number two ONEI the ridiculous way
in which they don't announce trades. And then it's like
some afterthought. When a guy's been drafted, he's been asked
about the team. Hell, he might even be moving there,
and he's traded. It's like, oh, all right, well I'm
guess I'm on the move stopping are you there's an

(13:05):
easier way to do it?

Speaker 5 (13:07):
Are you on Twitter while the draft is going on?

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Or you can't beat You can't be unless you want
it all spoiled. They were two to three picks ahead
the whole night.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
Right, which is what I was doing.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
Yeah, you could go and sound a real smart with
people that you were watching. It was like, hey, yes, exactly,
I think there's a good chance. And the bulls go
with this Matavas Mizellas guy. Eh And by the way,
how much of a shock was it with a name
like that? It's like, oh, that dude's from Chicago, all right?
I was, I was shocked.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
All right.

Cole joins us at Jason Cole sixty two.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Kind of a quiet time in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
But I just I'm curious, Jason, is the Direct TV
Sunday ticket settlement?

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Is that?

Speaker 3 (15:56):
Is that a big deal? Is that something that we
should be keeping an eye on? I feel like it's
a little bit of my pay grade, if you will.
But is that something that could impact the league?

Speaker 2 (16:04):
Oh? Oh oh oh there we got them. I'm not
am I losing my mind?

Speaker 6 (16:11):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (16:11):
There is? There is?

Speaker 3 (16:11):
Jason Gull Sorry, Jason, where do you stand on that?
Is that a big story?

Speaker 2 (16:16):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (16:17):
For the I came in a little bit late, all.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
Right, my bad story.

Speaker 6 (16:21):
What is it okay?

Speaker 2 (16:22):
The Sunday ticket deal? Is it? Is it good? Is
it bad? Is it indifferent? Is it something that we
should care about?

Speaker 6 (16:28):
Well, it's nothing that fans really should care about because
they're going to keep playing games. I don't really care
about that. But I mean, twelve point are thirteen point
eight billion trouble damages.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
It's a lot of money.

Speaker 6 (16:41):
That's a lot of money. That's such a back aloys
even the NFL. Even the NFL will be set back
a little bit by thirteen point eight billion dollars. Now,
I'm interested to see what the upper courts do with this,
especially if they get into a you know, into it
before a judge or a free payan judge that's a
little bit more friendly towards the business. And if it

(17:06):
gets as far as say the Supreme Court, which I
think this probably would since it's a high profile case.
But for the time being, yeah, this is a problem
for them because there's no easy solution other than you've
got to pay. That said, I mean, this is going
to wind its way through the courts for probably another

(17:26):
couple of years before we get any real final resolution.

Speaker 4 (17:30):
I was going to say that will it affect how
the owners do business, or they don't care one way
or the other.

Speaker 6 (17:37):
They'll just charge more. That's generally how they do.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
The reality is Arnie, Arnie.

Speaker 6 (17:45):
They have leverage. They have a product that everybody wants
to watch. They have a product that everybody wants to
you know, get rights to. Yeah, they're like, I don't
feel sorry for them. There'll be some short term grimacing
and pain if they actually have to pay, But don't worry.

(18:08):
We'll get covered.

Speaker 5 (18:09):
We'll get we'll get covered. I mean, look what's going
on right now.

Speaker 4 (18:11):
It's like we have to have like seven or eight
different channels to make sure we get every game. It's
like at this Apple TV Plus and the networking, it's
crazy out there, Jason, right.

Speaker 6 (18:23):
And you know this was their way of trying to
make sure that they protect the main the main payer
right now. So what I'm really fascinating as as we
unravel the future of what NFL media looks like is
when the networks finally die and get bought up by

(18:48):
you know, Google, and they get bought up by Netflix,
and they get bought up by Amazon and and AT
and T and Apple, and when those giants say, all right,
we're gonna we'll just buy you know. Amazon just says, okay, NBC,
you're a really good production company, and we're worth you

(19:09):
know how we may trillion dollars, you're worth, you know,
a couple hundred billion dollars. Will just buy you, right,
and you can produce all our stuff for us, because
that's what you do. You have cameras, you have trucks,
you have all this stuff. We don't want to build that.
We'd just rather buy you. And that will happen at
some point in time. And when that happens, is that

(19:31):
a good thing for the consumers because it makes the
price cheaper or is it a good thing for the
NFL where they can charge even more. And so it's
a really interesting conversation. But I will always say this,
the value of sports content is always going to be
at a really strong premium because it's, as John Skipper

(19:54):
said this week in an interview and he's a former
president of ESPN sports program is very predictable, Like you
can guess what your audience is going to be, what
the audience is going to look like, how many times
I can watch, how long they're going to watch for,
and that that makes it easy to charge ad rates.
It's it's pretty simple.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
So what's our next big date here?

Speaker 3 (20:18):
I know what we got July fifteenth, where the franchise
players can sign them multi year extension.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
You've got.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
I guess some downtime, but camp's coming up. What's the
next big angle that we're really honing in on. Is
it too in his potential contract? Is it Ceedee Lamb?
Is it the holdouts? What does Jason Cole have his
eye on right now for the next big wave of news.

Speaker 6 (20:41):
I'm kind of interested in the brand on IOK one
because that's a team that is on the edge. Like
they've been in the Super Bowl a couple of times.
They they could have won the last Super Bowl if
a couple of different plays go differently, they could have
beaten the Chiefs. And so that's a team that is

(21:05):
desperate to get that championship. And they've had three big
holdouts in the last three years, Devo Samuel two years ago.
Last year they had Bosa as a holdout. And we'll
see how far they go with IUK.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
And I know that.

Speaker 6 (21:22):
They're thinking, is they really want to get AUK done.
It's a number that's a little bit less than I
think Jalen Waddle's number that he got from Miami, I
think he got like twenty eight million a year, and
I think it's a little bit less than that. And
Ayuk can argue that he's better than Waddle or at
least equal to Waddle. So you know there's some some

(21:43):
stuff to work around there. But the real key here
is Samferonson. Skill wants to get through one more year
with with Iuk and Debo and Kittle, and probably after
this year, Debo is going to be the first one
to go. They'll let him go and you know, Pierce All,
the guy that they've rafted, is going to take over
in that spot, and then we'll see how long Kit'll

(22:04):
last because he's pretty banged up. But you know, he
made it through most of the last season. So you know,
they're a team that both is is right on the
edge of can they win that title? Finally win a title.
So they got they got to pay, but they're also
in some state of transition because they got to say,
you know, Diebo's got to go so that they can

(22:24):
take care of rock Perty at the end of this
next year.

Speaker 5 (22:27):
Yeah, no doubt about that. They have to come up
with money for him.

Speaker 4 (22:30):
What about Skinny Tua do they give I say, give
the money to Skinny Tua. He's put up some big
offensive numbers. He didn't get hurt last year. I give
him the money.

Speaker 5 (22:40):
What are they waiting for?

Speaker 6 (22:43):
Well, because Skinny ta Is also gets hurt a lot
to it, and you know, he made some strides last year.
But there are still times when Tua just doesn't quite
seem to be the guy, and I think they're a
little scared, you know, they're scared of that. But as

(23:04):
picky as you can be about who is not quite
that guy, it's okay, do you want to go back
to the drawing board because no, yeah, we know, yeah,
we know what it looked like from Dan Marino until
you got to toa right you know, yet it's in
Chad Pennington years in there. But you had a lot
of Cleo Lemon, and you had a lot of you know,

(23:26):
Chad Henny, and you had a lot of other guys
who just couldn't play. So I think that ultimately they're
going to pay and they're going to find a way
to do it. But I would do this like I
would be a little bit inventive with Tua, and I
would say, look, I'll give you a high value on
your contract if you give me a short deal, like
I'd do a three year deal with him instead of

(23:47):
like a six year deal. So look, we'll fully guarantee it.
If it's you know, one hundred, if it's one hundred
and forty five million dollars, you know, or one hundred
and thirty five, whatever the number is, I'll fully guarantee
basically the whole contract for you. But I want to
get back, you know, and you have a chance to
get back to the table soon, probably before you turn

(24:08):
thirty or right about at age thirty, and you can
cash in again if you made the progress, So you
can bet on yourself and you'll have that guaranteed money,
which means you're set for life. Because I'm a little
bit unsure about the injuries and I'm a little bit
unsure about the development, and I would see if he
would go for that. He probably won't. I'll probably just say, look,

(24:30):
I want the standard deal, but I throw it at
him and say, you know, I'll give you a really
high high annual average on a short term deal.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
Hey, I found a one for me, Jason.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
Just speaking of quarterbacks, I was thinking about Dak the
most popular topic, it.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Seems for so many people. But what would you do
in his shoes?

Speaker 3 (24:48):
Would you say, all right, I'm going to bet on myself.
Would you try to demand a long term deal? I mean,
I know he's got the opportunity to what Void's contract
next year and become an unrestricted free agent. But how
would you handle this right now if you were Dak's camp.

Speaker 6 (25:02):
He's already been paid once on a contract, right, so
he's got what does he how much money is he
in the bank already? Dollars?

Speaker 2 (25:10):
Right?

Speaker 6 (25:11):
Yeah, so so he doesn't have to worry about money. Basically, Okay,
let's better myself. I'm playing on house money already. It's
not It's very difference from say, like Trevor Lawrence, who Yeah,
look Trevor Lawrence had a big rookie contract, is number
one overall pick and all that. But that for that
that next contract, that two hundred million dollars that he gets, like,

(25:33):
that's that's generational money.

Speaker 2 (25:36):
Right.

Speaker 6 (25:38):
Well, Dak's already had a taste of that. He's gotten
to a certain point where maybe it's not generational money
where you take care of the next you know, three
or four generations of your family. But it's been pretty close.
And this is where you can really cash out and
you can really hold the Cowboys feet to the fire
if you play, because even if you played to average

(26:00):
and don't make the playoffs, I look what Kirk Cousins got.
You're you're You're not gonna like it's not all of
a sudden gonna crash. Yeah, he could get a really
bad injury, but Kirk Carson's got a bad injury. He
still got paid. So if I'm him, I play it
out unless they give.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
Me my number.

Speaker 6 (26:21):
And if they give me my number, okay, I'll be
quarterback forever in Dallas and and play it out. But
I always wonder about the Cowboys, Like the Cowboys go
through this with all of their star players. And they
did it with you know, way back when with EMMITTT.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
Smith.

Speaker 6 (26:40):
They did it with Michael Irvin. They did you know,
they've done it for years where they always wait and
wait and wait. They did it with Dez where they
wait till last minute and they make a drama out
of it. It's like, hey, how about just pay guys
in advance and get it taken care of and and
don't have all these problems like look what what Look
what Philly's And I'm not saying that all he's perfect,

(27:02):
but you don't see them having to navigate these problems
every other year. I think Jerry just likes the game
of negotiating with people. Yeah, I don't think he really Yeah,
I think he likes the challenge of it, and he
likes the spectacle of it. And it's not really about
football anymore. It's about whether he can win a negotiation.

Speaker 4 (27:22):
You know, I got to ask you real quick before
I let you go this. Did you cover so much
of the NFL? So much nepotism goes out in the NFL?
You have a thought about Brody being drafted by the
Lakers and everything nepotiza.

Speaker 5 (27:33):
That batza for crying out loud, It's all. It's all
over the NFL.

Speaker 6 (27:38):
Though, you know, Like I'm a really big time Lakers.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
Fan and I grew up in La.

Speaker 6 (27:47):
I love the Lakers, you know, the Dodgers and the
Lakers are my favorite teams. And part of this annoys me,
But part of me steps back and goes, what am
I so annoyed about? Like, you know, you knew this
was coming, you know, I Okay, so what I mean,

(28:09):
I'll be annoyed if the kids no good and they
give him a lot of minutes, right like, if that happens.
But if you're talking about saying a second round pick,
keep Lebron James happy so he achieved some goal a
game to play with his Okay, you know, I don't
think that that's that big a deal. My bigger deal
is you've acquiesced to Lebron for too long, and you

(28:35):
know he's running, He's running the organization. I have much
bigger problems with how the Lakers are being run. Then
they took Lebron, they took Bronni. I just don't think
that this is it's easy to make fun of and
I and I also think that for Bronni it's I mean,
it puts him in a really really bad position that

(28:59):
if he gets minutes that he doesn't deserve that that's
a real problem. At the same time, if you just
you know, if he's the eleventh or twelfth guy and
comes in and works hard, Okay, we'll live with that.
I mean, most second round picks don't make it in
the NBA, So what did they really waste?

Speaker 2 (29:22):
Sure preach Jason Cole preach ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
It's like I was talking right there, preach tell him, Jason.

Speaker 6 (29:32):
It's just not it was like, let it go, just
you know, stop. But again, the bigger problem is, like, Jeanie,
do you have gravitas like your old man like? That's
the that's the like. That's really the important question that
the Lakers need to face. Do they have the imagination
in gravitas to get it back together and go get

(29:55):
a star and do the things that Jerry bust did,
you know, with some really smart people to make that
team relevant. That second round pick whoever they took at
number fifty five, that guy was not going to change
their team. What's going to change their team is can
they get a third star and can they get younger?
And Lebron gets unfortunately, gets in the way of them

(30:15):
getting younger to do so enamored with playing guys are
in their thirties.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
And he would get more if he could. Thanks, Jason,
have a great weekend, Mondy. We appreciate your time.

Speaker 6 (30:25):
Hey time guys would be good good stuff.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
Jason Cole with some truth bombs on the lake.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
All right, when we come back to the tirack dot
Com studios. Let's get you in here your tweets, Arnie's
pigs are coming up.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
Are we bugging?

Speaker 3 (30:39):
I hope you're not bugging Todd again tonight, because if
we have him tonight, Arnie, he might not come on
with us on Sunday.

Speaker 5 (30:44):
Yeah, we are bugging.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
I think we are.

Speaker 4 (30:46):
I think we have one in the last We got
to get to that, and I think we're gonna have
to take something away from baseball.

Speaker 5 (30:50):
We got a little problem today on.

Speaker 2 (30:52):
Yeah, let's dive into that next on Fox Sports Radio.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 3 (31:02):
It was kind of a cool moment because unfortunately it
was in the half inning that they announced the passing
of Orlando Cupaida, and then Matt Chapman proceeds to hit
a two run, go head home run, so three to
two Giants. That game moves on to the top of
the seventh inning. What do you got dialed in today
in these Spaniards studios? What are you watching tonight?

Speaker 4 (31:20):
Well, I'm watching, you know, I'm waiting to see the scores,
the high lights. I think I don't have the Dodger game, mombause,
I don't know what channel that's on, but I'll go
ahead and find.

Speaker 5 (31:29):
That because I want to see that. By the way,
one quick thing.

Speaker 4 (31:32):
You know, when we always watch the coaches, like in
between quarters being interviewed in the NBA, you know they'll
tape something and then they'll play it back a little
bit later.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
Huh.

Speaker 4 (31:44):
You know we have players that are miked up, of course,
you know, then we'll use back some of the sound
a little bit later on. In baseball, though, we actually
interview these players while the game is going on. That's
going to have to stop because did you see what
happen to the Astros shortstop Jeremy PAINEA today?

Speaker 3 (32:03):
No, I did not see. What happened. Was he miked
up and he made a mistake or.

Speaker 5 (32:07):
Not miked up.

Speaker 4 (32:08):
He was being interviewed, so yeah, he was miked up
being interviewed. He was shading towards second even though he
was a shortstop.

Speaker 5 (32:16):
Ball was popped up.

Speaker 4 (32:18):
He races over back too close to where shortstop was him.
In the third baseman got mixed up, ball bounced and
it was an error. They gave him a hit, but
it was an error and all because it made me
think because the guy was doing the interview and wasn't
really fully focused.

Speaker 5 (32:36):
On the play and on the ball, and I think
that's got to stop.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
Man.

Speaker 5 (32:39):
You can't you can't expect him to do that.

Speaker 4 (32:41):
Can you imagine if we're doing that in the NBA
we're talking to Lebron while he's like going that court, Lebron,
are you gonna dug the ball?

Speaker 3 (32:48):
Now?

Speaker 2 (32:48):
You know?

Speaker 4 (32:49):
Just something like that. That's just insane. Chris, the guy's
playing baseball.

Speaker 5 (32:54):
You gotta gotta leave him alone. Man, I just don't
understand that.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
You know, I've never been a big fan of I'm
here for the content. I've come to accept that if
it doesn't affect my team, then I'm just here for
the content. So if it causes a guy to make
a mistake and you want to get upset about it,
I'm here for it. But it's kind of Arnie. It's
not going away, dude. Toothpaste is out of the tube
on that.

Speaker 5 (33:16):
And it is going to go away.

Speaker 4 (33:17):
If you know some of the players have, you know,
like commit errors like that, they're going to say, look,
I was trying, it wasn't paying attention. I'm talking to
the guy he hits a ground ball. I think that's
the second time somebody's made a narror. But while being
miked up and being interviewed during the game, Well, this.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
Is only I mean this this is the second year
we've done it. It's not like maybe even the third.
It's not like they've just started doing it, Arnie. This
isn't something that's just breaking onto the scene. This is
something they've been doing for a while. And again, I
don't think it's going anywhere. I think it makes the
game a little bit more entertaining. I mean, hell, I'll
take anything over listening to Carl Ravitch on Sunday Night Baseball,

(33:55):
But I.

Speaker 4 (33:57):
Have you imagine the pitcher's miked up and he's like, yeah,
watch this pitch. I'm gonna go and get them out
a nice curve. We'll get them on the beddor year.

Speaker 3 (34:05):
I mean, have you not been watched did you just
watch baseball and see this for the first time. I
mean they've been doing that for the last two years now.
I mean that's kind of become a staple of broadcast.
Here's what I would suggest, when you do it everywhere,
it becomes a little bit diminished. I don't remember the
astros being like on a major network today, So they're
doing that on their local broadcast.

Speaker 5 (34:25):
That I think it was Apple as Apple Tech.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
Okay, yes, okay, well all right, well, but I mean
I think that that's something that you know people are
actually watching.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
No fits.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
I don't know anybody that watches baseball and Apple TV
don't know his soul.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
So why don't we save those.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
For the Sunday night Baseballs and the Worlds are the
All Star games, not during the postseason, not during games
that matter.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
Would that be a fair compromise?

Speaker 5 (34:49):
That's fine.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
I just you know, if they're gonna start committing errors,
then you know the players are gonna start getting upset.

Speaker 5 (34:55):
There's gonna be a problem over this whole thing.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
You know, you acting like players have any power baseball Now, Arnie,
come on, but I get what you're saying.

Speaker 2 (35:03):
I completely understand what you're saying. All right.

Speaker 3 (35:04):
When we come back to the tire rack dot Com Studios,
I don't know why I even tease anything. I don't
even know why I try to set anything up. Have
you noticed that tonight on the program? It doesn't matter
where we want to go, Frostburg or Ty shirt. Arnie's
got his plan, So jump on board and let's see
where Arnie takes us next. But I will say we
do have to remember a true legend coming up next hour.

(35:26):
We lost a film legend tonight and the silly season
is truly here. We had the news in hour one
about Klay Thompson where reportedly the Mavericks Klay Thompson. There's
mutual interest. Will the Warriors come around and off from
a longer term deal and could there be a straight
up trade that makes sense for both sides involving two

(35:48):
of the biggest names in the NBA. We'll dive into
it coming up next in for Jason Smith and Mike Carmen.
That's Ernie Spanier. I'm Chris Plank. We're rolling through a
Friday night with you right here on Fox Sports. It's
