So much are live tonight.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
What a treat for regular listeners of Jason and Mike
to have our inside information. Arnie on the Hockey draft.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Right, it's not the expert. I'm the Hockey draft expert.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
The Craftsman truck series, I'm the expert. On that too,
right were they were they racing again? They're racing, They're racing.
Speaker 5 (01:17):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
In the US, we've got Olympic trials going on tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
I'm the Olympic Trials expert on that.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
We got Brazil soccer Copa America. Of course, We've got
tysed in tonight. So we're good to go, Arnie. As
far as the Island of Misfit Toys, it's kind of
like the sports world here tonight.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
It really is.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
I like it. You know, other little stuff we can
hit on and different stories. It's not so much to
say because coming up in a month and so it's
going to be all NFL in college football all the time.
So I do love that, like seven eight straight months
of football. So it's good to get some other stuff in.
I'm kind of you know, I'm excited about the Olympics.
I'm I'm starting to get pumped up about that. We
(01:56):
got a couple of local people out here in Vermont
that are going to be in the Olympic. So I'm excited.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
Yeah, Arnie sent a note this week about the local
Vermont what is it marathon.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Or yeah, you didn't answer me.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
I you know what I got your text like two
days later, there's something we're going on with my phone.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
I'm still a poor when it comes to my phone.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
But I'm not that into the Olympics, Like I wouldn't
be able to say, hey, running far, what's that like?
And I probably run out of content pretty quick. But
I'm you know, when you see the crowds that are
at the gymnastics and you see how we're developing some
storylines with some different opportunities and with our teams. I mean,
(02:36):
I'm here for it, Arnie. I think it's going to
be a fun couple of weeks.
Speaker 6 (02:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
No, I've watched a little bit of the trials and
one of the Elie's Saint Pierre. She's the mayor or,
she's the runner, not marathon runners, she's one of the runners,
and right up there she'll be pushing for the gold.
And then we have a rower too, So that's that's
kind of fun up here. He was at the Vermont
Lake Monster Games doing interviews, so I just enjoy it.
(03:01):
It's also a good gap until you get into football
and you get things going out there.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Well, I've got some football topics tonight, So I bet
you do.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
Yeah, I bet like well, I did go through.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
For those that aren't familiar, Arnie and I do a
show every Sunday night here on Fox Sports Radio, same
time slot, only we're an hour later. Timke to one
A Central time Jason and might get that bonus hour.
But Arnie has been consistently all in on destroying everything
but Dolphins talk. I mean, if I try to talk
(03:35):
about anything else football related, and I think you'll admit
to this, right, you pretty much implode it with Dolphins talk,
It's all you want to talk about.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
And now we get to talk about Skinny Tua. But
have you noticed all my teams, like in the ten
or eleven years we've been doing the show, this is
the best run I've had on all my teams in
one year, in like a decade. It's it's incredible. I mean,
I could be winning the NCAA Championship in football, my
(04:04):
Dolphins winning the Super Bowl, my Knicks definitely winning the championship.
I already texted or On, I tweeted our boss telling
him I'm gonna need next June off to go to
the Knicks parade. So I already already went that.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
Okay, well before we get to the Knicks and I
know I've got to give your Knicks their flowers, their
kudos because.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
They're great, They're gad you go to a lot of
just buy season tickets.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
Okay, well we're gonna get there. We're gonna get there.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
And I'm sure that those who regularly listen in this
time slot, including Frostburg, is probably sick and tired of
hearing about the Knicks and the Mets.
Speaker 7 (04:38):
But yeah, shut up, Barnie.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
Yeah, on Jason's Night off, they bring in a Knicks
and a Mets homer to sit in.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
So sorry about that, dude.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
But I'm a real New Yorker.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
So with that in mind, yeah, with no you you
claim everywhere, you claim Palisade, you claim the Bronx.
Speaker 5 (04:55):
I don't really know where you're from. I don't know
if you're a real person.
Speaker 7 (04:58):
But I know you know he wants almost dated Genie bust.
Did you know that.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
I know he claims that. I know he claims that, Arnie.
Are you in a buyer sell mode with the contract
negotiations for TUA? I know you're not wanting to get
too much in the NFL tonight, but I figured if
I'm gonna talk NFL and I know, I'm gonna get
stuck having everything somehow someway segue back to the Dolphins.
It's gonna end up being a major conversation over the
(05:23):
next few weeks.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Yeah, I don't like it. First of all, I thought
they had were close or they were real close to
getting something worked out months ago, and then it was
just a matter of you know, crossing the t's and
dot in the eye. So maybe I misunderstood that, Chris,
let's start there because I thought they were really close
in getting something done, So I might have misunderstood it.
(05:44):
I think we had talked about that, so correct me
if I'm wrong on that. But you got to give
him the money. I mean, you're talking about how important
quarterbacks are, and you can start from the beginning. And
I even go back a couple of years ago when Tua,
before he got hurt, and I know it was a
short emple size that year, had great offensive statistic numbers
and was leading the NFL and just about everything. Last
(06:07):
year he put up great offensive numbers, top three in
just about everything. He didn't get hurt, he proved himself.
I'm really not sure what the Dolphins are hesitant about.
You got to give him the money, and you got
to make him happy. I don't like what's going on here. Well,
i'll tell you what. It's one of five.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
I made you a top five list for the show
tonight because that's what you're contractually obligated to do. It
is during this time of year, and since you didn't
want since your idea for a top five list on
Sunday Night was top five worst ways to die based
on the dude literally losing, I guess because of over excitement.
He died after winning four million dollars on a slot machine.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
The Car News says, it was only four millions. That's it.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
That's it. It wasn't like say a lot of money
or anything.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
No, no, nothing like that.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
But I've got the top five teams that are filled
with hope, the top five NFL teams who fan bases
are filled with hope. And then you will decide an
hour three to This is a three hour tease, very
unique of the business.
Speaker 5 (07:11):
All right, Never.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Delicate because it's three and then you got to remember
the teas. But I've got five teams that I think
are the most hope filled teams right.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
Now, and you decide if we're popping that balloon.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
If we're going to implode it, or if you say, hey,
get crazy, hopium's incredible this time of year, buy in.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
I'm gonna go ahead and give it number one. I'm
gonna go ahead.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
I'm gonna gohead and warn you the number one team
with its fan base that appears to be filled with
the most hope.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
I don't even know if they're gonna have a winning
record this year.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Alright, well I already know who that is.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
Right, Steelers.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
So I don't want to give that away, but go ahead.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
So and if you guys want to jump in eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine
ninety six six three six nine, you can hit us
up on Twitter. Arnie is at stinking Genia if we
still call it Twitter at stinking Genius. Wan, I'm at
Plank Show. Everyone should go follow us at Fox Sports Radio. Okay,
to the timely topics. Everyone's fighting about it. Everyone's yell
(08:06):
numerals tonight. By the way, I put four, I added
one more, so we should have fourteen. I added Joey
chested up for number fourteen.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
Okay, that's good.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
So and again Arnie does the Roman numeral rundown and
by Roman numerals for some reason, and his terrible handwriting.
Speaker 5 (08:20):
I don't even know what like number four was. What
were you even trying to say on number.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Number four, oh, Philipowski, not at all?
Speaker 4 (08:27):
Okay, there must have been number five. Your spacing was off, Arnie,
your spacing was off today from my.
Speaker 5 (08:32):
Old man eyes. But no, the Roman numeral three.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Bronni, Yes, Kenny, play will even make it? Is it
worth fighting about? Should it even be a debate? What's
your takeaway? Surprise level zero? Right, But what'd you take
away from the last twenty four hours since Lebron James'
son Bronni was drafted in the second round by the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
You know what was interesting? First of all, I'm paying attention.
I'm watching the draft. I wanted to see what would happen.
I wanted to see the reaction. I happened to have
a basketball game, so I go to my game, but
I still got my phone and I'm paying attention. The
pick comes in, and I mean, like the gym all
went crazy. The Lakers did it. They took Broddy. They
(09:14):
took Broddy, and you're like, half the guys, he doesn't
deserve it. Half the guys like, Oh, that's so cool,
I can't wait to watch. You know, I have a
little bit of a different perspective. First of all, you
know people are talking about nepotism and stuff like that. Yeah,
of course we know that's that goes on in just
about every you know, every form of job and occupation
(09:36):
out there, So that does go on. You know, I
had a son who played hockey. He was a goalie.
I would have done anything, Chris, And you know this,
any called, anybody sent anybody an email or tweet, I
would have called. I would have gone to the Lebron's house
himself had I thought that he would have been able
to get my kid to try out in the NHL. Now, unfortunately,
(09:59):
when you're a goalie, Chris, there's really not a lot
of room for just putting my kid on the roster.
There's only two goalies on the squad, so you really
gotta play. There's there's there's noel. But you know he
could be a project or something like that, so you
really gotta go ahead and play and be NHL ready.
But I mean it was a second round pick. I
understand where he's coming from. I think it's a great
(10:22):
story and and like I said, I would have done
nothing different if that was my son who I thought
could play, and I did, Chris, you know that I said,
I said NHL players emails, tweets, Some never even got
back to me. I'm like, hey, my name's Arnie Spagner
from Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
Your name dropping Fox Sports Radio?
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Yeah, yeah, don't tell the boss. Totally name dropping Fox
Sports Radio, hoping that they could take my call. Or
you know, oh, I hear this guy's from Fox. You know, baby,
let's see if we can help this guy. Some people
would even return. It wouldn't even say hey, like, no,
I can do your kid sucks. I could even get
that from some people. So I know where Lebron's coming from.
(11:05):
You just want the best for your kid. Now. I
do like Brodny. I think he's got a great head
on his shoulders and stuff like that. I'm hoping he
does make it in the NBA. I think he could
be like a journeyman and maybe when Lebron does retire,
he can go somewhere else and be his own guy.
I think he'd be better served if he played, like
(11:27):
on a Detroit team or a team that's not very
good where he got to get some playing time, some
meaningful minutes, get up and down the court, you know,
be able to make mistakes where maybe the media is
not gonna breathe down your neck. But there's there a
bad team out there, Chris, you know, so I think
he'd be better served with that. But I understand where
this is coming from his dad. You know, they want
to play together. It's it is kind of a story.
(11:49):
So I do agree with that.
Speaker 6 (11:52):
It is.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
So I'm not as outraged as everybody else, as like
I said, I wanted this from ice on. I wish
I could have done this. I wish I could have
done more to go ahead and help him get in
the NHL. But it is so tough, and you know,
I do see the other side where there's kids. I mean,
look at his teammate at USC forget his name off
(12:16):
the top of my head, average like fifteen or sixteen
a game, didn't even get drafted. There's gonna be people
like that that are gonna be resentful. But that's part
of life, Chris. I mean, it happens all the time.
Happens in our occupation too. You want to talk about
nepotism and broadcasting, it's all over the place. So you
either got to fight through it and continue or you
(12:38):
could just go, oh woe's me and have it destroy
your life. So look, Brodny's been giving a golden opportunity
and he take advantage of it. That that's what it's about.
Even Joe Buck says, Look, have I got here because
of nepotism, Absolutely, But I'm here because I was able
to keep the job because I'm good at it. So
(12:58):
you know, it's historic. I think it's it's a good
story out there. I wish Broddi the best, but I
still think he'd be better served if he could have
gone to a different team and you know, got some
meaningful minutes out there.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
So Arnie Spaniel, Lebron James like one and the same
is what I took from.
Speaker 5 (13:15):
Yeah, yeah, we're just like Bron.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Absolutely. Like I said, Honey, had I known Lebron could
have gotten my kid into the NHL, I would have
walked right to his house and right in the doorbell
and say, Lebron, Lebron, Arnie's pat your Fox Sports Radio?
Fox Sports Radio? Have you heard of me? You may
have heard of me? And can you give your kid?
Fox Sports Radio that I mentioned that I'm kind of
a big deal, just asked me. So I would have
(13:40):
totally done that. I wish, Thank goodness, the boss doesn't
know this that could listen to this slot. I would
have totally I would have totally done that. I every
time I sent an email, I would start, uh, Fox
Sports Radio, Arnie Spanier, anybody help, just anybody, Yeah, give
me a hand, Somebody do something to get my kids
in the NHL. And I just couldn't do it. I
(14:02):
just couldn't pull it off. So I know where he's
coming from.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
You got Arnie spaniel lebron James like one of the same.
Here was Leon Rovolinka, the general manager of the Lakers,
who explained why the Lakers like Bronni is a prosperate.
Speaker 8 (14:15):
Ronnie is, first and foremost a person of high character,
and second, he is a young man that works incredibly hard,
and those are the qualities we look for in drafting
players and adding to.
Speaker 5 (14:28):
Our developmental core at the Lakers.
Speaker 8 (14:30):
He had a great draft work out with us where
he displayed those qualities. To me in an hour lunch
that we shared in the building just to get to
know each other. Became clear that he was a man
of character in terms of his work. I think I
think we've all seen that lived out too. He's not
a person that has ever taken shortcuts or expected or
(14:52):
been entitled about basketball opportunities. He's worked for everything that
he's gotten, including being selected today at fifty five. It's
an honor for us to add him to our program.
Coach Reddick is already excited about putting a development plan
around him to increase his basketball skills and turn him
into the player that we think can impact and.
Speaker 5 (15:13):
Help this franchise.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
I know that sound bites bade the rounds. I think
I even heard Jason and Mike played last night, but boy,
that is an absolute mess.
Speaker 5 (15:22):
All right?
Speaker 4 (15:22):
When we come back to the tyrack dot com studios,
we got breaking news involving a trade and kudos to Arnie.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
Hey what's up, everybody?
Speaker 9 (15:43):
It's me three time pro bowler LeVar Harrington, and I
couldn't be more excited to announce a podcast called Up
on Game?
Speaker 5 (15:50):
What is up on Game?
Speaker 9 (15:51):
You asked, along with my fellow pro bowler TJ. Huschman,
Zada and Super Bowl champion. Yep, that's right, Plexico Burris,
you can all name a show with that type of
talent on it. Up on Game We're going to be
sharing our real life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen
to Up on Game with me lebar Arrington, t J.
(16:12):
Hutchman's auDA, and Plexico Burrs on the iHeartRadio app, Apple
Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast from.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
No, already, we got a little bit of off season trade.
I guess it's not a trade when we're talking about
free agents. We got a little tease going on about
the future of Klay Thompson that's coming out.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
Oh here in moments. Wait, it doesn't matter to you.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
Because you already know where he's going, right, Is that
what you're gonna tell me? You already know where Clay
Thompson's gonna end up? Oh yeah, I got I got
a feeling already.
Speaker 5 (16:45):
In Plank sitting in for Jason and Mike. The whole
crew is here tonight.
Speaker 10 (16:50):
I was.
Speaker 4 (16:52):
It was funny because Frostburg and I will communicate a
lot on Twitter and whenever you and I have had
an opportunity to fill in for Jason and Mike. Usually
Justin's got the night off as well as maybe Ty Shirt.
Speaker 5 (17:06):
So it's you know, it can be.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
It can be a little bit of a fill and crew,
or I'll be with Mike, or you'll be with Mike
whenever Jason takes some time off. I realize it's the
first time that Frosburg and I have DM at each
other in two years.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
So we're ready to go though, Baby, We're on fire
from the ti rack dot com studios and that's a
great way to get in touch with Arnie and I
tonight at Steinkingenius one at Plank Show at Fox Sports Radio.
According to Mark Stein, a longtime ESPN dude now doing
I will say his own thing, I think is what
like the New York Times. But according to the steinline,
(17:45):
Clay Thompson wants to play with the Dallas Mavericks. So
Detroit and Dallas have now agreed on the trade that
sent Tim Hardaway Junior to the Pistons. Can you imagine
getting traded to the Pistons. But now again, I think
there's some connecting of dots here a little bit and
people are trying to lay out that these moves the
(18:08):
Mavericks are making to clear out a little bit of
space to maybe create an opportunity. But what would you
make of the fit of Clay Thompson in Dallas. I
don't know how financially they could make that work.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
I was gonna say, he's not taking a discount to
go there, right, he's gonna get the max and what
is it a four year deal or and and look
at the injuries he's coming back from there. I know
we had a good end of the year with the
last two three months of the year. You do have
to wonder, though, at that age is somebody going to
be worth it? And with the money they're throwing around
(18:41):
with some of these guys in the NBA, you know,
I'm more, you know, thinking about giving him the money
than not giving him the money. Rather give it to
him than some scrub that I'm not gonna know, going
to be able to perform why Clay was so I'll
take my chances to probably roll the dice and give
him the money.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
Here's what Wrkstein said. A free agent interest in Thompson
from Orlando and Philadelphia has long been expected. Why they
have salary cap space, Philly needs more shooters. But it's
believed that his preference if he does leave the Bay
Area is to stay in the Western Conference, So he
(19:19):
would be an essentially direct competition with the other holdovers
from the Warriors' dynastic run. As laid out, the Denver
Nuggets have weighed a potential free agent pursuit of Klay Thompson.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Oh go crazy would that be?
Speaker 4 (19:35):
I don't think I complain about that? And here's the
note on the Mavericks. The latest evidence of Klay Thompson's
interest in the Mavericks. It's a growing belief league wide
that Thompson's relationship with the Warriors is irretrievable. Strong mutual
interest between Thompson and Mavericks is expected when free agency opens.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
Oh, make no mistake about it. If the if Golden
State wanted him back, he would have been back by now.
He would have signed something. They would have given something
that he was I would have find acceptable. And you
know what, they probably would have gotten a hometown discount. Also,
I don't think they had to come up with the
full max. I don't think they even had to come
up with the best offer compared to some of the
other teams out there, but something went wrong, and I
(20:23):
feel like clave Fields, and I don't know this for
a fact, but I think clave Fields, you know, is
shortened or disrespected, and he's pretty much left it in
his mind that he's going to go ahead and leave
Golden State, and I think Golden State's ready for him
to leave. Anybody was they don't want to give him
that money.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Arnie, what if our boss, the great Scott Shapiro, yes,
offered me a four year contract word right, one hundred
million dollars and offered you a two year extension in
the fifty million dollar range. Would you feel like that's
a little bit insulting?
Speaker 3 (20:57):
Only fifty mil for me, that's right, and you get
the hundred Well, you get the hundred mil. But that's
twenty five million a year. So I'm getting twenty five
million year.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
That's right, But you're only getting a two year extension.
I'm getting a four year deal, gotcha, Okay, trying to
let you out that Clay Thompson got a two year
extension and Draymond Green got a four year deal.
Speaker 5 (21:18):
I didn't realize. I had to lay it out that
that's simple for.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
You but I'd be okay with that. I'll just let
you know.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
Just I would complain about it.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
I would complained about that. I could see where Clay
is upset with that, because I would think that they
would want me back over Draymont. Forget about basketball on
the court, basketball off the court. Clay has been a
model player, model citizen. Draymont has not, and the trouble
(21:47):
that he caused, you think they'd rather go ahead and
make sure that all three got back. I don't understand
why they don't have the money. That's where I'm starting
to scratch my head on that, because you know only
Steph and now they gave the money to Draymont. Where's
all this other money that's and that's that's keeping them
hands strong. I don't understand that.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
M The CAP's reel, the CAP's real in the NBA,
and by that the luxury tax and things of that nature, right,
and there's teams that are being very cognizant of that.
Speaker 5 (22:21):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (22:21):
Maybe Golden State is saying, this is what your offer
is gonna be, and if you want to go to
Orlando and you want to go somewhere else, there's nothing
we can do but this, this is your offer, is
what I.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Think he's worth it. Still, do you think you're worried
about giving money to do a guy that's that's been
those through those injuries the last couple.
Speaker 4 (22:38):
Arnie, every man is worth what someone is willing to
pay him. And for Clay Thompson, you know Orlando, they
trip over there, you know what, to give him a
lot of money, maybe bringing a veteran presence with their
young roster. I think Philly would do the same thing.
I think the Lakers would try to ask, I'll get
you a little hometown deal, but that ain't happening.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Just was about to ask how come the Lakers are
not in the or they just can't afford it and
they just don't even want to bother to go ahead
and try. Because if the Lakers got close to what
everybody else was offering, I think he'd jump at the
chance to play for Los Angeles, move back down there
and get to play against Golden State how many times
a year? What are you kidding me? I think he'd
love something like that.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
So again, I guess a new angle. I don't know
if you would necessarily call it breaking news, but according
to Mark Stein, there is mutual interest between Klay Thompson
and potentially joining up with the Dallas Mavericks. Sor right
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox arn't e and
planking for Jason and Mi Care on Fox Sports Radio.
We're coming to you live from the tire rack dot
Com studios. But hey, let's get caught up. It's time
(23:41):
to find out what's trending. I didn't even hear the update.
Who's intoing updates tonight?
Speaker 3 (23:46):
It's Fendley bro I think the Sega the night off.
Speaker 5 (23:51):
Look at you? What a good year.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
H I was listening to.
Speaker 10 (23:54):
You guys the other day about the whole pre wedding situation.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
And by the way, I'm throwing this out go ahead.
Speaker 10 (24:00):
Invites are out there for the actual wedding, which is
next month, Arnie. Do not make excuses because I know
you're known for doing that Long Island, New York, Arney
be there, honest.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
Are you getting married every other month?
Speaker 6 (24:13):
Now?
Speaker 3 (24:13):
What is this like a tool?
Speaker 10 (24:15):
So what we did do is we did a pre
wedding party for those on the West coast.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
You couldn't make it out east. She's from the east.
Speaker 10 (24:21):
So we thought, well, honestly, we thought where could we
have the wedding that's close enough to Arnie where the
excuse wouldn't work because he's so closed that there's.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
Only a six hour drive. It's only a six hours long.
That's a long drive. I don't do well with the
people in Long Island. Are you getting married like in
the Hamptons? No, nothing far, very food, not that far.
It's probably about midway through the island, midway up. If
that's I'd have to give a big present. Oh my goodness,
the pressure.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
There, yeah, yeah, yeah, more than the maple syrup. I
don't know that's gonna do.
Speaker 10 (24:54):
I know that's what you're probably thinking, but you yeah,
and that's what yeah, and that's what.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
You call regifting.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 10 (25:06):
All right, So here's what's going on, guys. You mentioned
the NHL draft. Yes, that is happening. The first overall
selection went to the San Jose Sharks and they pick
up Maclin Celebrini, the forward from Boston University. Notably, tej
At Guilna, the son of the NHL great Jerome Gilna,
who played over fifteen hundred games in the NHL was
(25:28):
a many time All Star. Tej was selected six overall
to the now Utah Hockey Club, which yeah, used to
be the Phoenix Suns or Phoenix Suns, the Phoenix Coyotes,
and now they haven't even really come up with a
mascot or a name that is beyond the Utah Hockey Club,
but for now that is what they call themselves.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
So that's a neat little nugget there. What else is
going on?
Speaker 6 (25:52):
Oh?
Speaker 10 (25:52):
Yeah, there are a plenty of trades that are taking
place in the NBA, including to Janta Murray. He has
headed to the Pelicans with Learning and j Dyson Daniels
in two first round selections headed back to Atlanta. This
trade reported first by ESPN. The Dallas Mavericks are sending
Tim Martinway junior and three second round draft picks of
the Pistons for Quentin Grimes. The Toronto Raptors like what
(26:14):
they're seeing from Emmanuel Quickly, so much so that they
are going to honor him with a five year, one
hundred and seventy five million dollar deal.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
Also, the Warriors are still keeping the trade option open
for Chris Paul. They've made that clear.
Speaker 10 (26:29):
By pushing back the day he is guaranteed thirty million dollars,
which he was supposed to get by today. They're going
to move that into the future a little bit, hoping
to orchestrate some sort of trade in the meanwhile. And
then lastly, Major League Baseball, the Braves, they stuffed the
Pirates six to one. The Padres, I know one of
you guys, said Hamstrung earlier. The Padres hamstrung that Red
(26:53):
Sox nine to two. Jackson Merrill had a three run
home run there. Pete Alonzo went yard for the Mets,
and now they're one game over, five hundred and seven
to two winners against the Astros. Yankees got a home
run from Juan Soto on the way to a sixteen
to five beatdown of the Blue Jays. Orioles hanging on
against the Rangers two to one. Ray's victorious as well
(27:15):
as the Phillies. And then lastly, some of the notable
games that are still up and running. We mentioned some
of them already at the top of the hour, but
it's Mariners and Twins. They're scoreless in the fourth Also,
keen on watching in ten on watching this Dodgers Giants game,
which is scoreless in the second inning. And we'll continue
(27:35):
to monitor all of those developments.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
Let's get it back.
Speaker 10 (27:38):
To Chris Plank and Arnie Spanier, who should take all
the blame for not getting his son into the NHL.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
I'm tell James, he is so selfish. Just hold it off.
Speaker 7 (27:50):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
Oh man, hey, Arnie, are you watching the NHL draft?
Speaker 5 (27:56):
Are you guys?
Speaker 3 (27:59):
I'm not really paid that much, but I got.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
Okay, okay, I'm just I'm curious what you guys think
of the overall presentation. Like I am envious of this.
I am in awe of what the NHL in Vegas
is doing. The spear stuff sphere sorry, the sphere stuff
is awesome. The way they're announcing the picks. I can't
tell you anything about these prospects, who they are, if
they're any good, but.
Speaker 5 (28:22):
I mean, yeah, that's right.
Speaker 7 (28:25):
They did.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
They did.
Speaker 5 (28:26):
She came out and did. What didn't she do? She
didn't do the first she did?
Speaker 7 (28:32):
She did the Canadians.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
Canadians, thank you, Yes, Montreal Canadians.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
Did you see the number three pick to who went
to Anaheid. Did you have to see that guy?
Speaker 5 (28:39):
How shocked he was when he got he went what.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
The black looked at his dad like he was like
he was like, wait a minute, I was supposed to
be taking like in the late first round and he
was the third pick overall. Couldn't believe it. Didn't know
what to do. I didn't know what to turn. Just
was was just thumbstruck that he was taken so high.
Was Beckett's I think his.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
Name is Yeah, and he play stands up and he
looks at his dad and his eyes are bang. He's like,
what the big hug? And then he kind of stumbled
his way up to the stage.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
He should have been me. That should have been my
kid hugging me right.
Speaker 4 (29:14):
Should have been. But you didn't work as hard as
Bronni did. He didn't have it lebron did. You didn't
have quite this. But what do you like of doing
something different, not having the commission to be the guy,
having like the team come out and announce the pick.
If there's a trade, the commission comes out.
Speaker 7 (29:27):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
I think it's kind of cool. Kudos to the NHL.
This has been fun to watch. I don't know who's
what I mean, which, by the way, I watch an
NBA draft where I didn't know who was what either,
and I love the NBA, so this is kind of
like got me in h guy.
Speaker 5 (29:40):
I mean, the Spy was made for good TV tonight.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
No, you're right about the NBA Draft. Very disappointed. I
used to love, yes, the NBA Draft. I mean I
could probably back in the day tell you everybody in
the first round and most of the people in the
second round. It it's just so much different now it is.
It makes me wonder how much, you know, how good
the talent is coming into the NBA compared to like
(30:04):
twenty thirty years ago, And I'm thinking it's a lot
less than it was back then, that's for sure.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
All Right, I want to hit some of our tweets.
So if we're all in and we're enjoying this, I
hope the NBA is watching. Heck, maybe the NFL, as
that'd be. Could you imagine the NFL Draft Now, I
don't have enough seats for people, but they would put
on an absolute show inside of that. Coming up at
the top of the next hour, we're gonna get Arnie's
takes on the draft, and then fully all in on
some two of contract news because who is it Jason
(30:33):
Cole Jake Holt's coming on with us a little bit
later on the program. All right, let's hit some tweets
at Stinking Genius wanted Plank show everyone should follow us
at Fox Sports Radio. What did you make of this?
I'm glad a head News asked it. He writes a
little Bronni and his team, allegedly telling the Suns and
others he would rather play in Australia than be drafted
by Phoenix. Did you hear this reporter from Bob Myers
(30:55):
last night? Did anyone ever back that up and say
that was a thing.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
We just kind of all went with it anyway because
it came from Bob and it was on TV, so
you know, hey, yeah, I doubt he was on TV.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Right now.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
Rich Paul's calling teams, don't take Ronnie James.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
He's telling him do not take him, Okay, saying don't
take him, you take him. He's going to Australia, So
he has a plan and he has a place.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
Yeah, and you know, I think he just wanted to
get it out there. So I don't know if he
went ahead and you know, I told Bob or you know,
somebody leaked to him or or whatever it was. I'm
sure he wanted to make sure that the Lakers were
going to take him and then to make sure that
cause you know, there was a lot of people on
the media saying, I hope the Celtics take him, and
(31:36):
Old of the Hostage takes him and Old of the
Hostage and I'm like, wait a minute, what is it?
What is this?
Speaker 2 (31:43):
Is this the.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Draft or I got youse like some game show. I
could believe they should draft the guy that they have
no interest in just to keep him from going to
the other team and threaten him and saying we got
your kid. I go, this is insane. So look, I
don't know if it was really out there. I did
(32:05):
hear the report. I'm sure it was put out there
so all the teams can hear it. But I don't
think he was in danger of getting drafted early unless
somebody was gonna go ahead and post some Shenan against Chris.
Speaker 4 (32:15):
Yeah, and it just can't I can't fathom that your
your threat would be right, well, go to Australia. I
get it, there's professional basketball leagues there, But I don't
know why that cracked me up. As part of it,
here's a good one from Brendan who writes people need
to give Bronnie a chance. The young man almost died
from cardiac arrest. People hating on him just because his
(32:35):
dad is a narcissist are being totally shortsighted. Give the
man an opportunity to show up his game. That's kind
of where I am. I don't know if I have
the energy to be angry about this. I do know
that I've reached the point where I am now. I
don't know Arnie maybe accepting of JJ Reddick being the
coach after being angry.
Speaker 5 (32:54):
I don't think I'm too fired up about the whole
Bronni saga.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
I don't know it angers me. I'm more on Brownie's side,
and I think that's more of a good story. And
I'm completely on the other way with the JJ Reddick.
I don't find him likable. I don't like the whole
drop it of the f Bob. I don't like the Hey,
I'm this guy and we're gonna do it. It just
seems like he's, you know, it was scripted to do that,
(33:19):
and I'm the tough guy. Don't like look how both
those guys handle themselves. I'm more in Brownie's corner certainly
than JJ Redick.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
All Right, when we come back to the tyrack Dot
Com Studios. Kudos to Arnie.
Speaker 5 (33:33):
That's next.
Speaker 6 (33:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:35):

Speaker 5 (33:57):
That's Express pros dot Com. I.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
By the way, I got a tease for a topic.
Speaker 5 (34:04):
Do you want me to pay off this one? Or
do you want to go ahead and give your teas?
Speaker 3 (34:07):
I just want to give a tease. We don't have
to pay it off. There's something that you're probably going
to talk about that I'm going to tell you about
that that nobody else picked up on other than me
in this entire world. Does that make sense? Does that
make sense at all?
Speaker 4 (34:21):
I think so. I think I even have a teas
for you. Arnie knows something that you don't know.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
I know something that everybody in the world doesn't know.
How about that?
Speaker 5 (34:31):
Well, I mean, come on, you got me intrigued. Now,
what are you talking about?
Speaker 3 (34:36):
Well, you were going to talk about this later I
saw you tweeted out.
Speaker 5 (34:40):
But I tweet out. I believed a lot today.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
The Jalen Brunson, the WWE. Yes, yes, I figured if
you're getting mad about Tyres Halliburton wearing the Reggie T
shirt for a month and no knowing how you think
Jalen Brunson should be in the gym right now working
on his jump shot and knowing how you want everyone
(35:06):
to fight and hate each other, I figure there was
nothing worse you could have heard or seen than Jalen
Brunson and Tyres Halliburton playing wrestling on your TV tonight.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
I want you to know some think. First off, I
was gonna have some fun with it and say, you know,
how Dare Halliburton go to the Garden? You never go
to the Garden. I don't care if you know if
unless you play New York you can't see any actors there,
musicians WWE. You wait till they come to your state?
Is Indiana state?
Speaker 5 (35:36):
Yesdi?
Speaker 3 (35:37):
So you wait till you come to your state before
you don't get to come here. And I was gonna
have some fun with it and do stuff like that.
The one thing that nobody picked up. I guess I'm
the only person in the world to pick this up.
Did you see the part where Jalen Brunson was coming
into the ring to save his wrestler friend on his
side with the chair.
Speaker 5 (35:58):
And he hurt his hand.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Yes, that's his surgically repaired thumb.
Speaker 5 (36:04):
Man, that's true. Why is he not Why does he
not have a rap on it?
Speaker 3 (36:09):
I could well, he probably thought it was better until
you heard it. You can't be doing that when you
were just on surgery and had a broken dumb. You
can't be playing a round like that.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
I mean, it's not like he ended up throwing any punches.
He just grabbed a chair And.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
Now you saw immediately him WinCE and kind of like.
Speaker 5 (36:25):
Oh wow, yeah you get.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
Showing that you gotta be careful and put him in
bubble wrap.
Speaker 5 (36:29):
You know what's so funny for us.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Nobody brought that up at all, texted.
Speaker 4 (36:33):
You that it looks like Brunson got hurt and Arnie
will notice it. I'm not even kidding you, right.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
Oh, could you imagine if you got hurt? Seriously, like
Jalen Brunson was a w W want to tell yeah,
I stopping stoping and he's gonna have to have surgery
again or something like that. I would just I wouldn't
get ill. I would be so ill. But nobody in
the world picked that up because if Nick fan saw that,
they'd be going, hey, hey, what are you doing there?
(36:59):
You knuckle ahead? I get away from that. You just
had that fixed only a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 7 (37:03):
He could be out for a while.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
Oh stop it, stop it.
Speaker 5 (37:07):
How would you? How would you Arnie handle that?
Speaker 3 (37:12):
If he lose my mind, I would lose good one.
I would get upset. And anybody who booked him for
that event, first.
Speaker 5 (37:20):
Of all, well probably himself, No, it.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
Was he's come on, He's got to have like a
you know, a person, you know, like an agent or
something that says, hey, I got a great idea. Right
after you're done with you're busted up hand and surgery
put you out into ww what could go wrong? It's
not like people don't get hurt and get hit with
chairs or anything like that. It's not like you can
get hurt or or anything like that, and you're only Hey,
(37:44):
you're weeks away from major surgery. The how with it?
Got to get you out there and make some money
because you're so poor.
Speaker 4 (37:52):
I'm laughing I just googled up the headlights because I
know Logan Paul.
Speaker 5 (37:56):
I don't know who that other wrestler is.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
I have no idea what the other on. You know what,
if if I was there, I would have taken Jayalen
out of the ring and sacrificed myself.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
He would have gone, ready, let's go, Let's go Jayalen.
Here's one headline from the New York Post, Jalen Brunton
and Tyrese Halliburton have intense stare down in wild SmackDown moment.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
If you saw him getting hurt of his thumb, that
would have been the lead. Everybody, all the nick fans
would have gone crazy over that, that's for sure.
Speaker 5 (38:25):
Brunson taunts Pacers Halliburton.
Speaker 4 (38:28):
I mean, come on, that's that's awesome, right, there's already
there's always a little bit of a rivalry. Are a
little bit. There's already a little bit of a rivalry
between those two cats. And to see this, come on, man,
I'm here. What was hall of Burton's injury in the playoffs.
I don't remember, like a sore toe or something something
like that.
Speaker 7 (38:49):
Out there. What name Heart's three pointer? I didn't hear
that I'm sorry that you remember his three pointer right?
Speaker 3 (38:57):
Oh, yes that I remember that. I do remember.
Speaker 5 (38:59):
Ye, backs spasms is what he was dealing with.
Speaker 3 (39:02):
But I guess the back spasms went away to go
ahead and do WWE.
Speaker 5 (39:07):
I'm guessing, huh, are you really this tore up about this?
Are you really?
Speaker 3 (39:12):
But it's only because that Jalen Brunson hurt his thumb?
Speaker 5 (39:16):
Well, I will.
Speaker 4 (39:17):
I will give you credit for being the only person
that I've seen that has vocalized that. I kind of
laughed whenever I saw it. I think too, it is wrestling,
It's it's scripted. I can't help but imagine maybe he
was having a little bit of fun with it.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
Where in the scripted and says now grab the chair
for Brunson so he could hurt his thumb. Who wrote
that part? And I'm just goint of curious.
Speaker 4 (39:39):
It must have been some Pacers fan. Man, there must
have been some Pacer fan that went out.
Speaker 3 (39:43):
It's not like they don't improv or anything like that
when they're doing the wrestling, right, What what could go wrong?
Speaker 7 (39:49):
Right?
Speaker 3 (39:49):
What could go wrong?
Speaker 4 (39:51):
So Jalen Brunson Tyrese Haliburton had a little stare down
while Tyrese Haliburton came to the ring with Logan Paul
get It, Pacers Guy, Madison Square Guard and everyone's booing
cheap pete as we like to call it in the biz.
And as he was walking around the ring, Jalen Brunson
had apparently some incredible seats.
Speaker 5 (40:10):
He must have a good hookup at Madison Square Garden,
and of.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
Course side had brass knuckles. I hate brass knuckles, man,
those things can hurt.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
Well, I mean yes, But again this is where I
do remind you it is scripted and it is fake.
So I don't think Tyreese Halliburton was going to try
to punch Jalen Brunson.
Speaker 5 (40:27):
With though that would be great if he did.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
I'm gonna swings in the air that accidentally makes contact.
You sound like no, then what happens. Then all you
can do is laugh at me.
Speaker 5 (40:39):
But the pain would be pretty good for this time.
Speaker 4 (40:42):
Slot, right If Jalen Brunson got hurt in some freak
accident at WWE, wouldn't it just be incredible, not just
for our show, but this time slot ten PET to
two AA every single night right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Or Jason Smith has already cursed. You curse every team
that you like. It'd be incredible, it'd be incredible. But
(41:03):
no punches were thrown. It was fake, it was scripted.
Everyone appears to be okay, even though Arnie Spaniard may
have seen Jalen Brunson reinjure his hand. Would you like
to tell us, mister Brunson, how you hurt your how
you hurt your hand? Well, I was trying to get
my partner the chair so the bad guy couldn't get him,
and I just absolutely pinched it in it.
Speaker 3 (41:25):
No, he grabbed it from him, is what he did. Oh?
Speaker 4 (41:27):
Yeah, he tried to grab it from him.
Speaker 5 (41:29):
A poor Arnie. Hour two Jason Cole next.
Speaker 4 (41:37):
All right, it's Arnie and Plank in for Jason Smith
and Mike Harmon here on Fox Sports Radio, coming to
you live from the tire rack dot Com Studios. Typical
Friday conversation. Pumped to be a part of it. Jason
Cole joins us at Jason Cole sixty two. Kind of
a quiet time in the NFL. But I just I'm curious, Jason,
is the Direct TV Sunday ticket settlement? Is that is
(41:59):
that a big? Is that something that we should be
keeping an eye on. I feel like it's a little
bit above my pay grade, if you will. But is
that something that could impact the league?
Speaker 6 (42:09):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (42:09):
Oh oh, oh, there we got them. I'm not am
I losing my money?
Speaker 6 (42:16):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (42:16):
There is?
Speaker 7 (42:16):
There is?
Speaker 5 (42:16):
Jason Gal Sorry, Jason, where do you stand on that?
Is that a big story? Uh? For the Sorry I
came in a.
Speaker 6 (42:24):
Little bit late. All right, my bad story. What is it? Okay?
Speaker 5 (42:27):
The Sunday ticket deal? Is it? Is it good? Is
it bad? Is it indifferent? Is it something that we
should care about?
Speaker 6 (42:33):
Well, it's nothing that fans really should care about because
they're going to keep playing games. I don't really care
about that. But I mean, twelve point thirteen point eight
billion in trouble damages, it's a lot of money. That's
a lot of money. That's such a backways even the NFL.
Even the NFL will be set back a little bit
(42:53):
by thirteen point eight billion dollars. Now, I'm interested to
see what the upper courts do with this, especially if
they get into it, you know, into before a judge
or a three panel judge that's a little bit more
friendly towards the business, And if it gets as far
as say the Supreme Court, which I think this probably
(43:15):
would since it's a high profile case. But for the
time being, yeah, this is a problem for them because
there's no easy solution other than you've got to pay.
That said, I mean, this is going to wind its
way through the courts for probably another couple of years
before we get any real final resolution.
Speaker 3 (43:35):
I was going to say that will it affect how
the owners do business or they don't care one way
or the other.
Speaker 6 (43:42):
They'll just charge more. That's generally how they do.
Speaker 5 (43:48):
The reality is Arnie, Arnie.
Speaker 6 (43:50):
They have leverage. They have a product that everybody wants
to watch. They have a product that everybody wants to
you know, get rights to. Yeah, they're I don't feel
sorry for them. There'll be some short term grimacing and
pain if they actually have to pay, But don't worry.
(44:13):
We'll get covered.
Speaker 3 (44:14):
We'll get we'll get covered. But I mean, look what's
going on right now. It's like we have to have
like seven or eight different channels to make sure we
get every game. It's like at this Apple, TV Plus
and the networking. It's crazy out there, Jason, right.
Speaker 6 (44:28):
And you know, this was their way of trying to
make sure that they protect the main the main payer
right now. So I'm what I'm really fascinating as as
we unravel the future of what NFL media looks like
is when the networks finally die and get bought up
(44:52):
by you know, Google, and they get bought up by Netflix,
and they get bought up by Amazon and and at
and Tea and Apple. And when those giants say all right,
we're going to we'll just buy you know, Amazon just says, okay, NBC,
you're a really good production company and we're worth you
(45:14):
know how we may trillion dollars you're worth, you know,
a couple hundred billion dollars. Will just buy you, right,
and you can produce all our stuff for us, because
that's what you do. You have cameras, you have trucks,
you have all this stuff. We don't want to build that,
we'd just rather buy you. And that will happen at
some point in time. And when that happens, is that
(45:35):
a good thing for the consumers because it makes the
price cheaper or is it a good thing for the
NFL where they can charge even more. And so it's
a really interesting conversation. But I will always say this,
the value of sports content is always going to be
at a really strong premium because it's as John Skipper
(45:59):
said this week in an interview. I mean, he's a
former president of ESPN. Sports programming is very predictable, Like
you can guess what your audience is going to be,
what the audience is going to look like, how many
times I can watch, how long they're going to watch for,
and that that makes it easy to charge ad rates.
It's it's pretty simple.
Speaker 5 (46:21):
So what's our next big date here?
Speaker 4 (46:23):
I know what we got July fifteenth, where the franchise
players can sign the multi year extension. You've got I
guess some downtime, but camp's coming up. What's the next
big angle that we're really honing in on. Is it
too in his potential contract? Is it Ceedee Lamb? Is
it the holdouts? What does Jason Cole have his eye
(46:43):
on right now for the next big wave of news.
Speaker 6 (46:46):
I'm kind of interesting in the brand on IOK one
because that's a team that is on the edge, like
they've been in the Super Bowl a couple of times.
They they could have won the last Super Bowl a
couple of different plays go differently. They could have beaten
the Chiefs, and so that's a team that is desperate
(47:10):
to get that championship. And they've had three big holdouts
in the last three years Deebo, Samuel two years ago.
Last year they had Bosa as a holdout. And we'll
see how far they go with Auk. And I know
that they're thinking, is they really want to get Auk done.
(47:30):
It's a number that's a little bit less than I
think Jalen Wattle's number that he got from Miami. I
think he got like twenty eight million a year, and
I think it's a little bit less than that. And
Ayuk can argue that he's better than Waddle or at
least equal to Wattle. So you know, there's some some
stuff to work around there. But the real key here
(47:51):
is Sam Francisco wants to get through one more year
with Auk and Deebo and Kittle, and probably after this year,
Debo is going to be the first wanted to go.
They'll let him go, and you know, Pierce All, the
guy that they drafted, is going to take over on
that spot. And then we'll see how long Kitt'll last
because he's pretty banged up. But you know, he made
(48:11):
it through most of the last season, so you know,
they're a team that both is is right on the
edge of can they win that title? Finally win a title.
So they got they got to pay, but they're also
in some state of transition because they got to say,
you know, Diebo's got to go so that they can
take care of rock Perty at the end of this
(48:31):
next year.
Speaker 3 (48:32):
Yeah, no doubt about that. They have to come up
with money for him. What about Skinny Tua do they
give I say, give the money to Skinny Tua. He's
put up some big offensive numbers. He didn't get hurt
last year. I give him the money. What are they
waiting for?
Speaker 6 (48:48):
Well, because Skinny toa is also gets hurt a lot
to it, and you know he made some strides last year.
But there are still times when two just doesn't quite
seem to be the guy, and I think they're a
little scared. You know, they're scared of that. But as
(49:09):
ticky as you can be about who is not quite
that guy, it's okay, do you want to go back
to the drawing board because no, yeah, we know, yeah,
we know what it looked like from Dan Marino until
you got to toa right you know, yet it's in
Chad Pennington years in there, but you had a lot
of Cleo Lemon, and you had a lot of you know,
(49:31):
Chad Henny, and you had a lot of other guys
who just couldn't play. So I think that ultimately they're
going to pay and they're going to find a way
to do it. But I would do this like I
would be a little bit inventive with Tuas, and I
would say, look, I'll give you a high value on
your contract if you give me a short deal, like
I'd do a three year deal with him instead of
(49:52):
like a six year deal.
Speaker 3 (49:54):
So look, we'll.
Speaker 6 (49:55):
Fully guarantee it if it's you know, one hundred and
if it's one hundred and forty five million dollars, you know,
or one hundred and thirty five, whatever the number is,
I'll fully guarantee basically the whole contract for you. But
I want to get back, you know, And you have
a chance to get back to the table soon, probably
before you turn thirty or right about at age thirty,
and you can cash in again if you made the progress.
(50:18):
So you can bet on yourself and you'll have that
guaranteed money, which means your set for life because I'm
a little bit unsure about the injuries, and I'm a
little bit unsure about the development, and I would see
if he would go for that. He probably won't. I'll
probably just say, look, I want the standard deal, but
I throw it at him and say, you know, I'll
(50:39):
give you a really high, high annual average on a
short term deal.
Speaker 4 (50:45):
Hey, I found a one for me, Jason. Just speaking
of quarterbacks, I was thinking about Dak the most popular topic,
it seems for so many people. But what would you
do in his shoes? Would you say, all right, I'm
going to bet on myself. Would you try to demand
a long term deal? I mean, I know he's got
the opportunity any what, void his contract next year and
become an unrestricted free agent. But how would you handle
this right now if you were Dak's camp.
Speaker 6 (51:07):
He's already been paid once on a contract, right, so
he's got what does he how much money is he
in the bank already? Seventy million dollars? Yeah, so so
he doesn't have to worry about money. Basically, Okay, let's
bet on myself. I'm playing on house money already. It's
not It's very difference from say like Trevor Lawrence, who Yeah, look,
(51:29):
Trevor Lawrence had a big rooking contract is number one
overall pick and all that. But that for that, that
next contract, that two hundred million dollars that he gets, Like,
that's that's generational money, right. Well, Dak's already had a
taste of that. He's gotten to a certain point where
maybe it's not generational money where you take care of
(51:50):
the next, you know, three or four generations of your family,
but it's been pretty close. And this is where you
can really cash out and you can really hold the
Cowboys feet to the fire if you play. Because even
if you play just average and don't make the playoffs,
look what Kirk Cousins got, you're not gonna like it's
(52:13):
not all of a sudden gonna crash. Yeah, he could
get a really bad injury, but Kirk Corkson's got a
bad injury. He still got paid. So if I'm him,
I play it out unless they give me my number.
And if they give me my number, okay, I'll be
quarterback forever in Dallas and play it out. But I
(52:36):
always wonder about the Cowboys, Like the Cowboys go through
this with all of their star players, and they did
it with you know, way back when with Emmett Smith.
They did it with Michael Irvin. They did you know,
they've done it for years where they always wait and
wait and wait. They did it with Dez where they
wait till last minute and they make a drama out
of it. It's like, hey, how about just pay guys
(52:57):
in advance, yeah, and get it taken care of and
and don't have all these problems like look what Look
what Philly's done. And I'm not saying that Philly's perfect,
but you don't see them having to navigate these problems
every other year. I think Jerry just likes the game
of negotiating with people. Yeah, I don't think he really Yeah,
(53:19):
I think he likes the challenge of it, and he
likes the spectacle of it. And it's not really about
football anymore. It's about whether he can win a negotiation.
Speaker 3 (53:27):
You know, I got to ask you real quick before
I let you go this. Did you cover so much
of the NFL? So much nepotism goes out in the NFL?
You have a thought about Brody being drafted by the
Lakers and everything. Batasa that b Tza for crying out loud.
It's all. It's all over the NFL.
Speaker 6 (53:43):
Though, you know, like I'm a really big time Lakers
fan and I grew up in La. I love the Lakers.
You know, the Dodgers and the Lakers are my favorite teams.
And part of the annoys me, But part of me
(54:03):
steps back and goes, what am I so annoyed about? Like,
you know, you knew this was coming, you know. I Okay,
So what I mean, I'll be annoyed if the kids
no good and they give him a lot of minutes,
right like, if that happens. But if you're talking about
saying a second round pick, keep Lebron James happy so
(54:27):
he achieved some goal again to play with this time, Okay,
you know, I don't think that that's that big a deal.
My bigger deal is you've acquiesced to Lebron for too long,
and you know he's running, He's running the organization. I
have much bigger problems with how the Lakers are being run.
(54:47):
Then they took Lebron, they took Bronni. I just don't
think that this is it's easy to make fun of
and I and I also think that for Bronni it's
I mean it puts him in really really bad position
that if he gets minutes that he doesn't deserve that
(55:08):
that's a real problem. At the same time, if he
just you know, if he's the eleventh or twelfth guy
and comes in and works hard, Okay, we'll live with that.
I mean, most second round thicks don't make it in
the NBA. So what did they really waste?
Speaker 4 (55:27):
Sure, preach Jason Cole, Preach ladies and gentlemen. It's like
I was talking right there. Preach tell him, Jason, it's just.
Speaker 6 (55:37):
Not it was like, let it go, just you know, stop.
But again, the bigger problem is, like, Jeanie, do you
have gravitas like your old man like? That's the that's
the like, that's really the important question that the Lakers
need to face. Do they have the imagination in gravitas
to get it back together and go get a star
(56:00):
and do the things that Jerry Buss did, you know,
with some really smart people to make that team relevant.
That second round pick, whoever they took at number fifty five,
that guy was not going to change their team. What's
going to change their team is can they get a
third star and can they get younger and Lebron gets
unfortunately gets in the way of them getting younger to
(56:22):
be so enamored with playing guys that are in their
thirties and.
Speaker 5 (56:27):
Want to get more if he could.
Speaker 4 (56:28):
Thanks Jason, have a great week, and Bundy, we appreciate
your time anytime.
Speaker 6 (56:31):
Guys, be good.
