(00:25):
Arnie Spani're in for Jason Smith and his best fred
Mike Harmon here on Fox Sports Radio. Good evening, Bernie,
Happy fourth of July to you, my friend.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Oh that's fuss taking genius. Oh wait, wait, Plank's not
gonna assume me for saying that.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
No, no, no, that's a fright thing.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
And I'm happy to be working with you. Arnie. Thank
us again for your service to our country. I know
you gave the day off to Di Sager, and I'm
not upset that you didn't give the day off to me,
because this is a day, Arnie. Obviously we celebrate our
independence and hot dogs? Right, Yeah, you know you know
(01:04):
what makes usay so kick ass? What are the two
things you think of it? Hot dogs and apple pie?
Is that fair?
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (01:11):
We didn't invent hot dogs. They came from Austria in
the eighteen hundreds. We didn't invent apple pie. That was
from England in thirteen ninety. But we're so badass here
in America, we just took them for our own. Happy
Fourth of July, Arnie, what are we.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Gonna replay right right off the bat? Baseball, hot dogs,
apple pie, Chevrolet? What do we change it out? Of
college college football? What tofu burgers, cheesecake and what like?
Electric vehicles? Is that? Is that the way it should
be changed out?
Speaker 3 (01:40):
And it's gonna be baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and
beach balls. You know who? You know we're gonna do
this later in the show. A lot of famous people
born on the fourth of July, including the legendary Morgana
Kissing Bannon born on the fourth of July, had over
seventy three rmance is, as it were, from some of
(02:01):
the most famous athletes in all the sports. And of
course you know she's retired now born on the fourth
of July, Morgana and was.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
I just saw a tweet from fred.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Linne I I retweeted that I was that day.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
I let's start with that, Bertie, because first of all,
happy fourth of July Before you even get to that,
I just want to say something. I had quite a
dilemma today. I don't know if you watch these shows,
but they do the marathons on the fourth of July,
Sci Fi does Twilight Zone. And I found on one
of the other channels one I never even heard of,
was like one on one or one to one or
(02:39):
whatever it is, that was an I on It was
a different one. They ran Sandford and Son. So I
don't know if you ever watch Sandford and Son. I
loved that show. That's quite a DILEMMAA pick which marathon
you got? And I love Twilight Zone. That that's a
tough pick, right there, Bertie, you know, well.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
That's an extremely tough Pick's usually between Brod Sirling, one
of the greatest and but come on, you can picture
friend right now clutching yourself, Elizabeth. I'm covering at Elizabeth
lamont Ralo. You know Willie Mays was in an episode.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
No get on here.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Yeah, yeah, he said a thing for brute cologne. In
one day. He says, what's out of smell? And role
says we'reing brute cologne. He goes, that's the most terrible.
He says, you gotta get rid of that. He goes,
What do you mean, Willie Mays? Where is it? He goes? Now,
you know what, it put him out there center field.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
That's too big. Used to love that show, that truck.
It's too funny. Uh, matter of fact, you know what
you brought up more Gaddy, you said it was her birthday.
We saw that tweet by Fred Lynn. You said you
were at that game. Let's just start there before we
get into Nathan's hot Dogs and have some fun. We're
here for the next four hours. Oh and by the way,
(03:53):
let's just tell aybody right off the bat. Coming up
next at about twenty a little bit past twenty past
the hour, Mickey Soto and Nick Wayry. They're married, but
Mickey won the Nathan's hot Dog eating contest Today. Nick
finished third. We're gonna get them on. We're gonna put
him on speakerphones. Hopefully everything goes well on that. But
I'm very excited to have him on again. We had
(04:14):
him on now last year, Bernie, so it was very,
very exciting.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Some of the favorite arguments Fred Sanfra had was re memember.
It was with his sister in law esther. You know,
fish eyed fault anyway, we'll get to that later. So Organa,
she's still with us, seventy seven years old to day.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
One of God bless her.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Yes. And as you know, she on a dare at
Crossley Field when she was twenty two years old. Her
friend asked her or dared or two run on the
field and kiss one of the players. And Pete Rose
was her first victim, as it were. But over the
next what thirty years or so she retired ninety nine
cal rip and Steve Garvey, Nolan, Ryan, Johnny Bench, George
(04:51):
Brett was the only one she got twice kream abdul jabbar.
She got the San Diego chicken. The chickens said to her,
do me a favor. Don't kiss me on the lips.
It's more sanitary, and my wife won't get pissed off
at me. So she goes okay. So and as you know,
Morgana's measurements were sixty, twenty three and thirty six. Now
(05:12):
I'm going to a few base yeah, yeah, exactly sure.
So as you know, Arnie, people when they go to
ball games, they like to amuse themselves. They used to
do the wave, they drink, they look at their phones,
and they back beach balls around. Right. The people still
do that at games, beach.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
We every once in a while.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Okay, well it used to be a thing. It was
kind of stupid. June ninth, nineteen eighty three, Freddy Lynn's
walking up to the plate and he says, I hear
these weird cat calls going on behind me, and I figured,
I don't know what's going on. Something sounds really weird.
I figured it was either a fight in the stands
or beach balls. He goes, and I felt this presence
(05:49):
behind me, and I turned around. Sure enough it was
beach balls and that was And so Freddy tweeted that out.
I just saw today. But but yeah, well today's her birthday.
So interesting and.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
And you imagine if right nowadays, you don't get to
run on the field of kiss players, and no matter
how good looked at anything like that.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
You know you weren't allowed to. Then either she got arrested,
don't She kept getting arrested and released, although she does
claim in one of her well she didn't runt a memoir,
but she's told a lot of stories that I guess.
There were a couple of cities where she got roughed up.
I guess she got She's claimed she got beat up.
I was Security of Milwaukee.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Yeah, she had quite a life. She will not do
any media really, why not. She just had it. She
wants to live in privacy. Her last known media uh
you know, presence as it were, was on her fifty
year anniversary August in nineteen ninety nine. She gave an
exclusive interview to USA Today and she has moved on
(06:47):
and she's quietly living by herself.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Did she ever make any money off those ventures or not?
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Yeah? Oh yeah she did. She made some. She made
some money. And the truth of the matter is she
really became sort of a famous person in the lexicon
of American culture. And she did some TV as well.
I mean she got to go on you know, Johnny Carson,
and I think she was on some other shows. I
don't remember exactly.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
What Johnny cart Wow, that's a big deal. Gosh, that's
yea right.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
You know. She did Late Night with David Letterman. Remember
remember the old game show back in the day to
tell the Truth. Yes, you got to go on that show.
She was on Good Good Morning America. And by the way,
for a while where she was living in Columbus, Ohio.
They had a morning show called Good Morning Columbus and
she was a cohost.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Do you think young people like twenty five another know
who MORGANA was?
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Or not my fault that they don't pick up a
damn book. I wasn't born during the War of eighteen twelve,
but I know about it, know your history people, I know.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
But the people of the young people are listening to
us right now, going who is this morgana person able
to run out of baseball field than kids that he
player that she wants to? What's going on here? You
know what's that they got there?
Speaker 3 (07:58):
Well, Pete Roacher knows her, so you know they Yeah,
I would say, you know, our our audience, arn'tie our
intelligent audience. They know who she was.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
All right, let's uh the Nathan's hot dog eat. He
got those first things first. No, Joey Chestnut did that
going in where you bummed out about it, and then
as it was going on and it finished up where
you bummed out that Joey was not in it. How'd
you feel about that?
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Well, when it started and I religiously watch it every year,
I don't care what anything.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
I enjoyed it yeah, my wife's back to go the
highest order.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
Thirty thousand people attended. It's it's become a real live
American event. And of course you had. What really made
a takeoff was in like around two thousand and six
when Kobayashi and Joey Chestnut locked horns because Kobayashi had
the rule of the roost and then Joey chest Nunt
beat him and they're actually going to do something on
Netflix November second. So when it started, you know that guy,
(08:50):
that announcer guy, he does.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
A really nice job, right, he does he does it.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
It's a ten minute event, right. I mean there's a
lot of build up to it. But listen, you can't
not have a Fourth of July hot dog conversation without
referencing Joy Chestnut. He was invited down to Fort Bliss.
He took on twelve soldiers. He beat him fifty seven
to forty nine. Here's what's interesting. The winner in New
York eight fifty eight hot dogs in ten minutes. Today
(09:16):
Joey Chestnut fifty seven hot dogs in five minutes. I
know that the four soldiers. Yeah, yeah, I have three today, Arnie,
how made you have?
Speaker 2 (09:25):
My wife wouldn't let me eat hot dogs.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Well, when you do, just do me one favorite so
I don't have to put my headset down and put
my head through a wall. When you have hot dogs,
you don't put ketchup on him?
Speaker 4 (09:35):
They do you?
Speaker 2 (09:36):
No? No, I do the spicy mustard and sour krowd.
I like to get him from like the off the
street vendor guys in New York City. That that's the best.
The ce Brett's hot dog, and I like the Nathan's
hot dogs do. I love to go out to Codey
Island and I like their friend fries, the creakle fries
with the little fork. I love that stuff. I have
to go back down again.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Anything to drink with that, Arnie. Why we're on the
subject at all? Yeah, they wash it down with.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Doesn't he high?
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (10:01):
You who? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (10:04):
So I'm glad you say you don't put ketchup. By
the way, if you the great Mike North used to
say when he had his hot dogs, Dan, if you
want ketchup, you'll put it on yourself. I think there's
an ordinance in Chicago. I feel that if you if
you put ketchup on a hot dog, we've got to
have a conversation. I mean ketchup is sugar. Okay, you
are not enhancing the flavor of the hot dog. You're
(10:25):
camouflaging it. You're killing me. You're killing the dog too,
by the way. That's like it's like drinking wine with
a straw or eating pizza with a spoon. You don't
you don't do it? Man.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Are you a yellowish guy or sour?
Speaker 3 (10:36):
But pretty much just mustard? Yeah, you know, I've been
to pretty much every ballpark Friendway. French are tremendous. Dodger
dogs used to be great. I heard they're not as
good the hot dogs of Deal Tiger Stadium were to
die for. If you have to put a bunch of
condiments on, I'm like, I will put relish. Always mustard.
I will put relish sometimes, depending on the mood i'm in,
maybe onions, but that's it. I don't want to go
(10:57):
too far. I want to taste the dog.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
I agree. I'm one hundred percent. The I think I
debate on is do you have two hot dogs? Do
you have three hot dogs? You have three good, but
three sometimes it's not enough.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
You go, you gotta go for the third. I've even
I've even gone the fourth now and then I'm not trying.
I'm not trying to impress any but it's you're either
hungry or you're not. But you can't just have one.
Because you have one, and you have that second one,
you say, well, I'm just about there, I haven't taken
the edge off yet, and you crushed the third one,
and then everything's right with the world.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
Right, hey did So after it was said and done,
did you miss Joey chest I enjoyed it. I enjoyed
it a lot more than I thought I was. I
thought it was a good race. Five guys were in
the race, and you know, even though they were pulling
away there at the end, I enjoyed the whole thing,
and that it was a lot closer than when Joey
Chestnuts in it, you know.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
To answer your question, surprisingly, I did enjoyed every I
did enjoyed every bit as much even without Joey Chestnut,
because when he's there, it's not a race, it's you
know who's gonna win. It's right, it's the old Larry
Bird the three point contests, which you knuckleheads are playing
for second, right, so you know Joey Chestnut's gonna win.
But today was a real genuine competition, and you got
(12:07):
to give these guys a lot of credit. We'll talk
about this with Mickey Soudo or her husband. I say this,
I don't say this tongue in cheek. They're actually athletes
if you understand what their training regimen truly is and
what they have to go through to get to that level.
It's no joke.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
You know what's crazy. Bertie Patrick Bertoletti, who wanted for
the men's division, had fifty eight dogs. Mickey Soto had
fifty one, and she broke the record. I wonder if
she slowed down afterwards because she had a lead in
the women's division. She actually ate more than her husband Nick,
who had forty eight. So I wonder if she could
(12:44):
if you would have finished third in the men's division,
or maybe higher, maybe second, if she pushed a little bit.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
Well, oh, there's a reason Mickey sudo has won this
contest ten years in a row, and she didn't win
it a couple of years ago because she didn't enter
because she was pregnant. Right right river has it Caitlin
Cockhead seventy seven dogs, which she was at home. So
we don't know if it's.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
True, but I enjoyed it, man, I even joe it
was it was a race. At first, I thought I
wasn't gonna like and I'm like, come on, man, Joey,
just that's not there. How could you have this? But
we went on without Koba Yashi and the people in
case people didn't know what did Joey just doesn't sign
with what some vegan company, that.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Is what Dole Foods. And there's a real fight. Obviously
obviously Nathan southwalks they believe are beef and so this
was in anthem of them. They couldn't find a happy medium,
which is a shame because I actually think they have
two different customer bases. Hopefully they can work this out.
But yeah, that was what happened, and you know, the
Powers to Be were upset. They likened it to Jordan
(13:44):
approaching Nike and saying, I don't really like you guys
are Nike, but I like to join up with Adidas too.
That was their analogy show. Wow, right, you and I
might not be able to get our minds around this.
That'd be that veheman, but they do and they're the
ones right in the checks.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
I'll tell you, I don't think I like to be
an official at this hot dog getting contest because the
guy that wanted Bertolotti, he I mean, they look like
he have some spillage there. I mean, you can't tell
when he's spilled it down his gin, and how you
know the hot dog is just shoving in his mouth,
and I mean, can you really tell three the whole
thing or what they're Bertie, It's crazy, you.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Know, I've never understood the count. And then they kind
of have to have an official con at the end,
and they tried to create a little drama where they
put the first and second place guy next to each other. Yeah,
and in the end they had to get the final
tally and so on and so forth, and then he
raised his hand, right, Berto Letty won, but hey, give
it up to him. Look, there's a reason thirty thousand
people show up for this million's watch it. My buddy
(14:42):
Jeremy Shapp was one of the broadcasters today. We were texting,
I love Jeremy, and it was kind of funny to
see him do that. So people can make fun of
this event, but it's real. And I'm wondering if what
happened today at that Texas Army base might spawn a
series of knockoffs because as long as Joy Chestnuts there
and one of the other things we'll do later in
(15:03):
the show, Arnie, let's talk about some of Joey Chestnuts
thirty two eating records.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Look, you know this is not the Nathan's Hot Dog
Eating Contest, but I was the MC of the Champagne
Valley Fair Hot Dog Eating Contest for five years in
a row. I just want to throw that out there,
Bernie's I.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Think that's outstanding. Yeah, I think I Look, we're at
you now. We're doing work in July fourth for Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
It's incredible. All right, We're gonna come back. Hopefully we'll
be able to set up an interview with Mickey Soto
and her husband Nick Werry. Mickey won the contest. Nick
finished third today, so looking forward to that. They're gonna
be on speakerphone, so hopefully fingers crossed. They're coming up next.

Speaker 6 (17:00):
How you doing Mark, I'm doing well.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
It's fourth of July.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Happy fourth, Happy four. Yeah, thanks for taking some time
on this holiday. Hey, right off the bat, you know,
obviously we saw the free agent period. Were you surprised
that Clay Thompson decided not to go with the Lakers.
Everybody kind of thought that they had the upper hand.
I thought it was a little bit of a surprise
that he ended up in Dallas.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
I thought it could go either way. But I think
that there are two things that didn't help the Lakers.
When the Lakers are trying to do signing trades, they
don't have as many assets that the Warriors wants as
they want from the Dallas Mavericks. I think the second
thing is quite truly made a basketball decision because Dallas
Mavericks they went to the finals and the Lakers they
lost in the first round. But it did come close.
(17:47):
I mean I talked with Michael Thompson, his father, the
other day, and he said that he put out the
ultimate sales pitch talking about the showtime Lakers years, you know,
Perspectivebut hey, what it would be like to play with
the same franchise as the idle Kobe Bryant. He broke
down next to and O's why it would be a
good fit with Lebron James Anthony Davis because they would
get a lot of open shots for him, and Michael
(18:08):
even talked about just how there's so many ports in
LA where he could park and ride his boat. All
those things still didn't resonate because Clay, at the end
of the day, he cares about trying to win basketball games,
and the Mavericks Frank, we have a better roster.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
At this point, Mark Well said he didn't bury the
lead because there was no lead. There could be no
part of Michael Thompson's presentation and said, we're ready to
win now. And I understand that Dallas. Dallas made a
great presentation to Clay and showed him how they're ready
to win now. And of course they were just in
the finals. They know Josh Green couldn't get it done.
(18:46):
They know Tim Hardaway couldn't get it done. Klay Thompson
steps in. I think he's going to rejuvenate when you
write the history books, he's the second best shooter of
all time. Here's my question, though, what is the Lakers
pitch to other people beyond Klay Thompson? What did they
really have to offer?
Speaker 4 (19:02):
Well, I think there's two things when it comes to
signing trades. It's about if the front office wants these players,
and what we've seen is really want them because you
know they're decent role players, but they're not franchise changing players.
But I think when it comes to free agency pitches,
at the bottom line is free agents want to get
(19:23):
paid and they want to win basketball. The Lakers don't
have either at this point because they have a full
fifteen man roster. They don't have a lot of salary
cap room to work with beyond the mid level, So
the only way they get a high priced player is
if they do with sign trade. But Lebron he put
it out there that he would be willing to take
a pay cut if they get an impact player, but
(19:46):
that still hasn't been enough because of the second part.
The Lakers aren't in a position right now to make
a deep championship push. And let me make this clear, Burning,
I don't think really this has anything to do with
Lebron James negatively speaking, because he's still been playing at
all star level. I think has everything to do with
the roster construction and the Lakers front office and where
(20:08):
they're headed as an organization.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Mark, what did you think about them and the whole
Bronny situation, not only them taking him with the fifty
five pick, but with the contract with the guaranteed the
four years. Though I assume now we're hearing that he's
probably gonna play in the G League. It's first year,
at least, that's what we're hearing. Who knows what's gonna happen,
you know.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
Yeah, I don't take issue with his contract, his second
His contract is in line with what second round draft
picks get number two. I don't take issue with him
gained fifty fifth pick. A lot of players that are
drafted that low, they're drafted that low for a reason,
and you know, their careers don't really last long. So
it's not like the Lakers us their seventeenth text to
(20:50):
get Brownie. They didn't trade up in the draft to
get him, they didn't promise extended playing time. But that
being said, it obviously goes without saying that the Lakers
are being completely forthcoming when they say that they drafted
Brawny mostly for just his character, work, ethic and basketball potential.
No doubt, his father's an influence. It's lebron James that
(21:11):
we're talking about. But I don't have a problem with
it only because there isn't that much risk involved. We're
talking a fifty fifth second round pick, and there is
a strong likelihood he'll be with the G League. But
I do have to stress it's not like he's going
to be there the whole time, because there are restrictions.
If you're on a two way contract, you can play
(21:32):
more in the G League than you would if you
were on the regular season roster. And he is on
the regular season roster exactly.
Speaker 3 (21:40):
Mark Medina Medina Magic on the Bernie Frawls who every
Saturday night, eleven midnight, eleven twelve midnight Pacific. All Right,
while we're on the subject of Lebron. He signs a
two year deal, but he can opt out after one.
What scenario, Okay, I'll board it out. He gets a
chance to play with Brownie. Fine, it'll be a momentous occasion.
(22:00):
Lakers maybe make the playing tournament, they might not even't
make the playoffs this year if you look at the
way the West is filling out. But does that open
the door for brown to them leave? Is that why
he did that?
Speaker 4 (22:12):
I think it opened the door for him to think
if he can't still play a league level he'll retire.
I think it opened the door that, like this past offseason,
maybe he'll take a pay cut if the Lakers actually
are able to find some impact players and that gives
him reason I want to keep playing. I don't think
that he is going to leave the Laker organization. I
(22:32):
think that that might be a different conversation if we're
talking about Lebron James in the prime of his career.
But he's at the tail end of his career, and
make no mistake, I think that he still wants to
win and he hopes that he can add this championship
ring count. But I think he's pragmatic enough to know
that at this stage of his career he's almost playing
(22:52):
with house money. So I think he also is content
with the fact that he is playing at least a
few seasons with his son on the Lakers. And you know,
even though he's not hurting for money, he's in the
billionaires club. It's always cool to get more.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
How much of a few seasons? How many more seasons
does he have left? What do you think?
Speaker 4 (23:11):
Yeah, I thought that he would have been retired by now,
so I guess, but he's proved me wrong. He's still
been playing at such a high level. I mean, he's
not the same player as he was ten years ago,
but he's still an All Star caliber player. So I
think that he plays out this full contract three years.
I don't think he'll negotiate a new one because that's
(23:33):
just on president. He would be in his mid forties.
I don't think there's any scenario whar all of a
sudden he's playing with Bryce and playing with two of his.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
Kids in the NBA.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
I think this will be.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
It mark last one for me, very much under the radar,
but typically captain the Warriors. They acquire Buddy Heal to
have signed and trade with the Sixers. I think he
helps the Warriors.
Speaker 4 (23:55):
I think he does too. He's a great secondary shooter.
He's not quite Tomson replacement, but the Warriors need help
to make three point shots beyond Steph Curry, so it
is a good move. I think when you're looking at
the Warriors in general, they've obviously taken a step back
and they're not the dynasty that they once were. But
I do give them credit that they're making some incremental
(24:17):
moves so that they at least have a supporting cast again.
They're not going to be championship contenders, but at least
they can be in the hunt to make the playoffs
and get beyond what they were as a playing team.
And I think that Buddy healed. He is a bucket getter.
He can score in waves and look, the Lakers were
among many teams on one of them, so I think
(24:38):
it is a testament that the Warriors are able to
get them at the expensive others.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
Mark, we really appreciate you taking you holiday time joining us,
especially on this fourth of July. Enjoy the rest of
what's left and enjoy the weekend, my friend.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
I appreciate you. Guys, happy forth, enjoy the fireworks.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Thanks mar Thank you, Mark Medina. Everybody are, of course
insider at Fox Sports Radio, of course also NBA insider.
Certainly check them on out. We're gonna come back a
few things that Mark hit on. Then I want to
get to especially Broughdy. It's about time we hit on that. Also.
First though, let's see what's trending. We check it with
our buddy Kevin Wyatt. What's trending out there, Kevin.
Speaker 7 (25:18):
Yeah, they're now in the bottom of the eighth inning
and Los Angeles the Diamondbacks lead the Dodgers five to three,
Christian Walker continuing to torment Dodger, pitching two home runs
tonight former Dodger Jock Peterson also with a solo blast
to help the Diamondbacks take the lead as they're trying
to win their second game in a row against Los Angeles,
the Rays and Royals. This one's tightened up just a
(25:40):
little bit, but last chance for Kansas City. They're trailing
at ten to eight, bomb of the ninth in a
no one on and two outs, so we'll have to
see if they can muster some offense here in salvage
this game. But everything else has gone final. Rockies hold
off the Brewers four to three. The Giant's gonna go
ahead home run from Matt Chapman to beat the Braves
(26:02):
four to two. Mariners snapping a four game losing streak
beating the Oriole seven to three, and Baltimore won the
first two games of that series, and combined with the
Yankees getting swept by the Reds and including eight to
four victory by Cincinnati today. Combined with that, Baltimore able
to take a two game lead in the American League East.
The Mariners getting the win today now have a two
(26:23):
game lead on the Astros in the Al West, and
the Astros today beating the Blue Jays five to three
as they continue to be red hot. Red Sox Mariner,
Red Sox Marlins go to Thex go to the twelfth
inning and Red Sox win at six ' five in extras,
Guardians over the White Sox eight four. Twins pound the
Tigers twelve to three. That game called early in seven innings,
(26:46):
with Minnesota winning it handily. The Cubs and Phillies at Chicago,
beating the best team in baseball ten to two behind
two three run home runs from Ian Half part of
a four for four day. Padres get a home run
from Jerks and Profar to beat the defending champion tex
This Rangers three athletic shot at the Angels five nothing.
The Cardinals and Pirates go to extra inning. Saint Louis
(27:07):
wins at three to two. When the day got started
in the nation's capital, the national shutting up.
Speaker 6 (27:11):
The Mats won nothing back to you.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
Guys, Thank you, Kevin appreciated. Bertie Fratro Arnie Spanier in
for the guys tonight. Jason Smith and his best friend
Mike Carmen right here on Fox Sports radio. We're live
at the tyreck dot Com studios. Bernie, I gotta tell
you there's something I want to bet. I know you're
you live out there in Vegas. I want to bet this.
I know it's a loser, and I can't help myself.
(27:34):
How about that?
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Oh, don't do it.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
I can't can't help myself. I can't help myself. I
love the odds too much. It's two hundred and fifty
to one. I feel like putting one thousand dollars, which
means back i'd get what a two hundred and fifty
thousand dollars. I can't help myself, and that is betting
Lebron James Brownie will win Rookie of the Year. And
(27:59):
I know it's not gonna win.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Vegas builds bigger chandeliers every year, but Jim.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
I can't help it. Party. The odds are too good.
And if what broad really has that much power, isn't
there like what percent in your mind that would you
be shocked if somehow he wanted I don't. I don't
know how he could win it. But that's like the
same people that bet that Broddy was gonna be the
number one pick in the draft. You know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
I'd be less shocked if led Zeppelin re recorded the
Gilligans Allen theme song and sold a million copies by tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
Did they really believe it or not?
Speaker 3 (28:30):
Thirty three percent of the early bets at bet MGM
were already on Brownie.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Uh, the rookie of the year.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
I'm not gonna lie to win Rookie of the year.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
That's crazy, crazy, Well.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
It's beyond crazy. Okay. Malcolm Brogden had long adds back
in twenty seventeen, but he had a little bit better
career in Virginia than that Brownie had. USC Now I'm
not gonna batch brown Okay. Let's set this up though,
all right. And by the way, I don't want you
to make that bet Alredie. Lie down at yourself some
(29:02):
a cold compres what that's not how you If you
want to make money, you bet a little to make
a little more. You don't try to bet a little
to make a lot. It doesn't work. It doesn't work.
Now I can't I can't endorse that. Right, you saw
some more milk and soft music and cool comperence and
lie down and wait for it to go.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
You know, there's a lot of people just like me
thinking the same thing, Bertie.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
You don't want to be like them, you don't want
to be like yes, thank you. So let's back up
just a second, and there are two aspects of the
story about Bronnie James becoming a Laker. I talked about
this pretty heavily on my shield Saturday night. All right,
let me start with it, because it's not just that
Bronnie is a Laker and he will get on the
(29:44):
floor this year at some point and you will play
with lebron and I think it'd be pretty cool, quite honestly.
So here's the deal. The fact that he was drafted
is what makes this story a real story. The Lakers
had to draft Bronnie lest they inflame the passions of
an insecure man. They had to do it. They had
to pease him. By the way, you never know what
(30:05):
you might get at fifty five, Manager NOBILEI was drafted
fifty seventh overall. By the way, let me ask you
a question, Arnie, what to Ben Wallace and Connie Hawkins
and John Starks and Donnas Haslam and Bruce Fred van
Vliet brad Miller.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
Is that what they were undrafted?
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Let's have covered the frow fear of the fro a
prolific player, and.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
That's tough for back deb because they had more than
two rounds.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Right. Yes, yes, So it's not whether or not Brownie
will have a successful UNFL in be a career. Let's
let's let it play out. Let him get on the
floor and do what he can do. Let's see. I
haven't seen it. I know he was second team All
League in college. He got on the floor a little
bit with USC. If you want to see him, come here.
I believe he'll play his first Las Vegas Summer League
(30:56):
game against the Houston Rockets.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Is he gonna play Summer League for sure?
Speaker 4 (31:00):
Sure?
Speaker 3 (31:00):
Yeah, he'll be absolutely, Uh he'll be I think four
thirty Pacific time on Friday.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
But is that something you would if you had tickets?
Speaker 3 (31:07):
First of all, it's I can get credential. No, I'm
gonna make a point not to go. I don't want
to go. Doesn't matter to me. I saw Anthony David
Anthony Bennett, the number one pick out a un LV,
stink it up in the Summer League, and I go.
I don't know what they were thinking. Then. Then I'd
see guys like Devin book and go what you know,
Come on, this guy is going to be a superstar,
right And by the way, Devin Booker didn't have that
greatest status in college, ironically, But I digress. So the
(31:32):
story here is not just that bronis a Laker, the
fact that they insisted Lebron insisted they'd be drafted. So
let's let it play it self out. If you listen
between the lines, that what Mark Medina was saying, the
Lakers didn't take a lot of risk. They didn't. But
is that really your action?
Speaker 2 (31:49):
Now?
Speaker 3 (31:49):
What the hell? Is not that big of a us,
So what the hell? You know, I might as well
light my money on fire, just keep me warm. So
he's a Laker. We'll see if they can develop them.
I know that Lebron was excited to maybe have Danny
Hurley develop them. Well, if you're that excited once, you
just have him enrolled in Connecticut and have them developed
them full time. True, he wouldn't even get on the
floor Connecticut, and you know damn well he wouldn't. Okay,
(32:11):
so now you might get on the floor in the NBA,
and maybe, just maybe he surprises all of us and
goes out and does something we don't expect, So the
story has to play itself out. The Lakers made their decision.
Their agenda in terms of how they want to prosecute
their business on a national level is what they do.
(32:32):
And I think it's a clear statement that Lebron is
still running matters and he's made the organization a lot
of money and Genie Busts and company. They don't want
to vacate themselves from that. I think they'd rather have
that than win. They're not going to win anything in
the next company. They're just typically not going.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
After all everything you just said, let it play out
and that you know he's coming back from this, and
you know who knows if he doesn't put him some
good stats here, and I would have been Rookie of
the Year two fifty to what you're talking to me.
If that one, then, for crying.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
Out loud, Arnie, I'll book that bet. If you, if
you want to put it, if you if you really
want to do it bad enough.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
No, I don't want to do it.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
Actually I didn't say that. We're across state lines, and
that got by attorney Dui Chita maaw, they'll represent me.
But in all seriousness, fine, you want to throw a
couple of shekels on it. You never know.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
But the bottom line is this right right right.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
When we talk about the story, it's always on the
periphery and the sensational aspects of the story. If your
don't and connect, man, you got hey, man, you know,
feel a little You know, there's a guy that really
earned it.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
Yes, what a great shooter at Tennessee.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
I think he's going to help the Lakers.
Speaker 7 (33:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
And you know, look, as long we used to have
a joke about Matt Stafford Detroit. I got nothing against
Matt Stafford's the coolier jets out there people. I'm not
a hater. I just don't buy the narrative that he'd
never had any talent around him in Detroit. There were
three or four years he had a lot of talent
around him and couldn't take advantage of it. But we
used to joke that Stafford still gives us the best
chance of going seven to nine, as long as you
got Lebron there. He gives the Lakers the best chance
(33:59):
of maybe getting to the play in tournament, which they've
been a fixture in the last three years. Although they
got to the conference finals two years ago under Darvinham
who they fired Lebron's fourth coach. There you get you
get the picture. It's becoming a side show. It's a
side show and as long as it used to be showtime,
now it's side showtime. He had I had a trademark, Dad.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
We're copyright on the T shirt.
Speaker 3 (34:22):
Copyright d put it on a T shirt. So I
love it. I love that kind of technology.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
Uh, we're gonna get to what JJ Reddick had to says,
I have a few thoughts on that. We'll talk about
the future of the NBA stars. All that coming up next.
Remember now, Bernie Fratto, Arnie span you're in for Jason
Smith and his best friend Mike Harmon right here on
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot Com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
All right, could you think everybody, Bernie Fredo, Arnie Spanier
here on Fox Sports Radio, So sitting in for the
guys tonight, Chase and Smith and his best friend Mike
Harmon right here at the tirech dot Com studios. Bernie
on an average of pretty much once a year for
over like the last twenty years. Sometimes there's not one
(35:16):
in a year, and sometimes there's two in one year,
but for the most part, an average of one a
year a team goes from worse to first in the NFL,
which is why I love the NFL. I mean, talk
about being so unpredictable. You could draft the right guy
or sign the right free agent, and you can go
from worse to first. I thought we'd see which teams
(35:36):
do you think have a possibility Not so much that
it's going to happen, but just the possibility of going
from worse to first. Let's start in the AFC East,
where the Patriots finished in the last place. They were
four and thirteen. If there was one team that I
would bet has no chance whatsoever of going from worse
to first, it'd be the Patriots. First of all, it
seems like the Bills of the Dolphins have a hold
(35:59):
on that division. The Jets are obviously going to be better,
or at least I think they will with Aaron Rodgers.
The Patriots have nothing that scares me whatsoever. Young quarterback,
no big offensive weapons. Belichick gone, Brady's been gone. I
can't see the Patriots going from wors to I don't
(36:20):
even see him going from worts to third. To be
honest with you, Bernie.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
Well, first of all, to your point, this is a thing.
Nineteen of the last twenty one years in the National
Football League, we've had at least one team go from
worse to first. Wow and their division. Let's not forget
Houston was the greatest example of that just this last year.
They were three to thirteen the previous year and they
win the AFC South. So this not only happens, it
(36:46):
can often sometimes happen in a big way. Let's not
forget the nineteen ninety nine Saint Louis Rams with Kurt Warner.
They went from worse to first all the way and
won a Super Bowl and Tom Brady's first Super Bowl.
In two thousand and one, New England had gone from
WORCESE to FIRS the year before. So this is a thing,
and it happens pretty much every year. I cannot see
New England doing much. I like Akobe Brissett, but he's
(37:09):
usually good for about four weeks and then they figure
him out. You got a new situation with the new
coach and Jared Mayo, and you know they did draft
Drake May, but I mean it would have to. It
would be a miracle scenario. I mean, I think you
actually have a Brownie might have a better chance of
being Rookie of the Year than New England going and
that's it. Let's say it a lot. So I do
not think it'll be the Patriots, but there are some
(37:30):
other teams to really keep an eye on, right well,
and I think could really do it. Go ahead, Arnie, Well.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
Let's go through the division. Let's get to the AFC
North where Cincinnati they're not a true last place team.
They were nine and eight, so they were a pup
five hundred. Now you got Baltimore there. Everybody in love
with Lamar Jackson. I'm enlistened as one of my top
five overheighted quarterbacks. But that's beside the point. Cleveland's going
to be better and we'll see what Pittsburgh does with
Russell Wills to the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
Though.
Speaker 2 (37:55):
I think if you were really gonna go flyer on
a team, it would be Cincinnati. If Burrow stays healthy,
I could see them maybe going from where it's the
first Burdy.
Speaker 3 (38:05):
I think Cinetta Cincinnati is the most likely team to
potentially go from worse to first. You know, Cincinnati just
did the very same thing three years ago in twenty
twenty one. It's all a matter of whether or not
they can stay healthy and Joe Burrow can stay healthy.
The biggest speed bump is that the the AFC North
(38:28):
is very crowded and it might even be more brutal
this season. Right, So they're in a very tough division.
But Cincinnati's done it once before and as long as
you know, Joe Burrow stays healthy. I mean they were
nine to eight last year. Yeah, and you know, and
they almost almost made the playoffs. They were alive mathematically
(38:50):
and week seventeen, so you know, their defense was not
great last year. They were also injured on defense. But
I think Cincinnati has the best chance of doing it.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
By the way, since on that division. What are you
making of Pittsburgh this year? Is it gonna work out
with Russell Wilson?
Speaker 3 (39:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (39:04):
Or are they gonna change quarterbacks? How's it gonna play
out for Pittsburgh this year?
Speaker 3 (39:09):
I believe Russell Wilson to be fine. He threw twenty
six touchdown passes against State Intercephans last year. It was
a non starter between him and Sean McVay. I've had
Darren McKee on my show a few times from Denver.
He had this kind of his finger on the pulse
when they let Russ Cook, And now that's an overuse cliche.
He did pretty well. Mike Thomas a sharp guy. He's
(39:31):
not gonna ask a lot of his quarterback. He's gonna allow.
It's gonna be a run first offense with a much
better defense. This is a guy I get. He's not
what he used to be, and I get he's a
punchline in a laughing stock, and don't people will take
him serious. But he's only trying to get back to
a place he's been before. He's been to two super Bowls.
Could have easily won them both, you know what happened,
and he won one. He's more accurate than people give
(39:53):
him credit for. I understand he's having a really good camp.
There's no chance Justin Fields beats him out. And I
don't get to Justin Field sing twenty eight.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
I like him, but he's just not gonna win. I
like him, yeah, but.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
He's not a major league quarterback, right. He's just simply
it's all about recognition. His default mechanism is to run.
They even talk about him in camp. He'll make a throw.
Oh my god, he'll make a Hall of Fame throw.
Then the next er will be well, wait a minute,
he's late to release the ball, he's late to make
the read. He's not accurate. His default mechanism is to run. Look,
(40:23):
he's ten and twenty eight is a starter. Okay, okay,
there are goods, some good reasons for that. You could say, well,
bad organization. Well, Mitch Trubisky was twenty five and thirteen
as his starter, made the playoffs two or three years
completed sixty five percent of his passes would have won
a playoff game had it not been for the double
doing field goal. So they thought he sucked too, and
his stacked were much better. So look, most of Justin
(40:45):
fields highlight real plays are with his legs. I'm sorry.
I mean, if you want to win a punt passing
kick contest, Justin Fields is probably your guy, unless, of course,
you're going up against thirteen year old Andrew Reid.
Speaker 2 (40:58):
That football out a problem. Let's go to the AFC
South or Tennessee. They were six to eleven last year,
by far, the worst team in the division. Now everybody
loves the Texas. Maybe even as a long shot to
go to the Super Bowl, you could beat out Jacksonville
and Indianapolis. I don't think you could beat out the Texans.
Don't think the Titans can go from worse to first.
Maybe from worse to second, but that would even be
(41:21):
a stretch, to be honest with you, Bernie.
Speaker 3 (41:23):
Well, there's no more Derrick Henry, there's no more Mike Vrabel,
Brian Callahan brand new coach, you got a second year quarterback,
and Will Levis. You can't really make a case for
Tennessee in my view.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
And let's go ahead and go through the last team
or last division of the AFC, the AFC West, which
is the Charges. Now obviously a big coaching change out there.
They've got the quarterback. The Chiefs though the dominant team
in the division. I don't care what the moves the
Raiders have made with new coaches and stuff. I don't
think the Raiders could make a run in it, and
I don't think the Broncos can either. Maybe the Chargers,
(41:57):
if they could make a run at the Chiefs, could
go for war. It's the first It's a possibility, at
least I think it is there, Bernie, it.
Speaker 3 (42:04):
Is a possibility. You certainly have Kansas City, who I
think is really the real deal. No NFL team is
ever three peeded in the Super Bowl era, right. I
think the Chiefs are loaded for bear to do that.
But they could do that without winning the division where
you know, we're trying to see who can go. So
Harball brings in Greg Roman, they'll be a run first team.
(42:24):
I hear Harbaugh and Justin Herbert are getting along famously.
Harball has a crush on him, and the bottom line
is Ronie, He's not gonna ask Justin Herbert to carry
the load like he's had to in the past. Right,
So this is a different NFL now and Harball hasn't
coached in eleven years. You don't just line up a
run rough shot over people. It's become basketball on turf.
(42:47):
They're gonna have to get I would say, they're gonna
have to have an offense. They're gonna have to stay
healthy and have an offense that can show it and
do some things. I'm curious to see what lab McConkey
does out of Georgia. I think he's a really good
but the biggest, you know, the biggest speedbump. There are
the Chiefs. However, having said that, the Chargers actually have
(43:08):
a reasonable schedule if you look at it. Although I
always think the NFL is a gauntlet, there are no
easy teams, but you have the best case scenario. I
do think they can leap frog Denver, and they can
certainly leave frog the Raiders, and if they can beat
the Chiefs in Kansas City, they can win that division.
That's what it's going to come down to.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
We're going to get to the Chiefs and a little
bit matter of fact, we'll take a look at the
AFC or the excuse me, the EDITFC. Yeah, when we
get back, but first let's see what's trending. Checking one
more time with our buddy Kevin Wyatt. What's going on? kW?
Speaker 7 (43:40):
Yeah, they've just gone final in Los Angeles the Diamondbacks.
They had a five to three league going in with
the ninth thing, then added four more runs to really
put it away against the Dodgers, nine to three to
the final. Christian Walker two home runs, three RBIs three
run score as it continues to torment Dodger pitching. Arizona
takes two out of this three game series. Everything else
(44:03):
has gone final. In Major League Baseball, Rays finish off
the Royals ten to eight, the Rockies hold off the
Brewers four to three, and the Giants getting a go
ahead home run from Matt Chapman to get themselves a
four to win against the Atlanta Braves. The Mariners snapping
a four game losing streak as they beat the Orioles
seven to three, holding off the Houston Astros, who continue
(44:25):
to be red hot. They beat the Blue Jays five
to three and are now just two games back of
Seattle in the AL West. As for the Baltimore Orioles,
they are now two games up on the New York
Yankees despite losing today, and that's because the Yankees got
swept by the Cincinnati Reds, including a eight to four
loss to Cincinnati today on the fourth of July. So
(44:45):
it's a two game lead Baltimore over New York in
that Al East. Red Sox and Marlins goes to extra innings.
Boston wins at six to five. In twelve Guardians over
the White Sox eight four, twins pound the Tigers twelve three.
This game ended early so was official in seven innings.
Cubs in Phillies, Ian Happ two home runs two three
run home runs four for four on the day as
(45:07):
Chicago beats the best team in baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies
ten to two. Padres get a home run from Jerks
and Profar to help beat the defending champion Texas Rangers
three one.
Speaker 6 (45:17):
Athletics shout out the Angels.
Speaker 7 (45:18):
Five nothing, and the Pirates and Cardinals go to extra
Saint Louis wins it three to two in ten innings,
and the day started off in the nation's capital with
the Washington Nationals blanking the New York Mets.
Speaker 6 (45:31):
Won nothing back to you guys.
Speaker 2 (45:32):
All right, thanks all, Kevin, of course, Bertie, fred Orny
Spani're in for the guys tonight, Jason Smith and his
best friend Mike Carmen right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Matter fact, Bertie, when you were talking about all the incompletions,
I have a list I'll go through later on of
the quarterbacks with the most incompletions just because they had
a bad throw, not because they were under pressure or
anything like that, just because they made a bad throw.
(45:56):
So maybe I'll get to that list coming up later on.
But continuing on, can what team go from worse to first?
What did you say it's happened nineteen times.
Speaker 3 (46:04):
Nineteen in the last twenty one years. And the year
that Mitch Trubisky, one of the years he got to
the playoffs, two teams did it.
Speaker 2 (46:09):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (46:10):
I think it was Jacksonville and the Bears. And while
we continue with this, there's one other thing we might
want to dive into, because there are four or five
significant NFL droughts that could legitimately end in twenty twenty four.
So after we finish the NFC North, we should touch
on that, aren't he because there's some real storylines to watch,
(46:31):
and I'll tease that we'll talk about that definitely.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
We'll get to that. Let's finish out. Let's go ahead
and go to the NFC where the Commanders were four
and ten. Now, this is going to be tough. First
of all, the Cowboys won the division. A lot of
people think that if they don't win the division, they'll
least be in second. It's going to be Philadelphia Dallas
one two. Not really afraid of the Giants, so Washington
can probably climb over them. But getting over Philadelphia Dallas
(46:54):
that's a tough chore though. If you were going to
take a flyer on them, You're hearing a lot about
what's going on with the quarterback situation, where I don't
know why I'm hearing this so many times, but it's
it's like all over the place that Jayden Daniels is
the real deal, but he can't do it himself and
he's still going to be a rookie quarterback. Not too
(47:15):
crazy about Washington going from worse the first.
Speaker 3 (47:18):
Well, he better be the real deal. And that might
not be enough, because Washington not only got steam roll
last year, they weren't even competitive. They had the worst
point differential in the National Football League. They were minus
one to eighty nine. That's like losing every game by
eleven twelve points, and they finished the game with it.
They finished the season with an eight game losing streak.
(47:40):
And you know, I mean they weren't competitive. They lost
to the Cowboys forty five to ten on Thanksgiving. You
saw the following week they lost by thirty to Miami.
They're yeah, they're not even in the conversation.
Speaker 2 (47:52):
Yeah, so you can forget about them. So I know,
like I said, they can probably climb over the Giants,
but I don't think it's gonna happen. Let's get to
the Bears. They get a big star quarterback out there.
They were seven and ten. The schedule is going to
be a last place schedule. Minnesota was also seven and ten.
The Packers don't scare me, even with Jordan Love being
(48:13):
the next thing, the next great thing since slic spread
the The Lions won the division at twelve and five.
Are they for real? The Bears might not be a
bad flyer to take for wors to first. I don't
think Minnesota, if you were going to count them as
the last place team, can go from wors to first.
What are you.
Speaker 3 (48:30):
Thinking, Well, I'm pretty well connected Detroit. I know you
keep hearing this. They got a target on their back
and they're saying, well, we got a few targets we're
looking at too. I don't think the Bears can leave
from Detroit. And I believe in Green Bay with Jordan Love.
Green Bay's got seven or eight first run draft choices
on defense and they all came together. Let's talk about
the Bears. Their defense was outstanding last year. They ranked
(48:51):
first against the run. They only allowed eighty five yards
per game. They had twenty eight takeaways. That's good for
fifth in the National Football League. Chicago won four of
US last six games when it didn't matter. I got
two words for you, and they run with Caleb Williams,
he's already got unreasonable expectations. I don't know how he's
gonna do there. I think the Bears, it's in theory,
(49:14):
could maybe get into the playoffs. I gave it less
than fifty to fifty. But you don't know until you
line up and you see who stays healthy. I don't
think they They've closed that much ground with the Lions
and the Packers, all right, So it's gonna come down
to Caleb Williams. Can they live up to expectations. They
do have a really good receiving core, DJ Moore, Keenan Allen,
(49:35):
you pick up Roma Dunsey out of Washington, you would
think so. You would think so. And they have a
way above average offensive line and they have a very
good running game. So on paper, wait a minute, now,
they're on the short list. But there are a lot
of real question marks, aren't he And you just don't know.
Speaker 2 (49:53):
You don't know. And again, though I would probably say
there maybe the second or third favorite to go from
worse the first. As you mentioned though, Cincinnati, he's got
to be the most likely. Let's get the Carolina over
the NFC South. I guess they'll go as far as
Bryce Young does. Does he turn it around? They were
two and fifteen, absolutely abysmal out there. They really had
(50:14):
no great weapons for him. Atlanta's going to be better,
The Saints are gonna be good. Tampa Bay. I mean
they were nine and eight. That's what the division winner
is is a couple of nine and eight teams. Can
Carolina put it all together? Maybe go for worse the
first What are you think?
Speaker 3 (50:27):
Well, they were the last place team again in that division.
There's New Orleans is no great shakes, and I think
Atlanta's very underrated. I think Atlanta's gonna win that division.
But Carolina, They've only won more than seven games once
in the last nine years. And I am a believer
in Bryce Young. I would not give up on him.
I think he's gonna be okay. They bring in a
(50:48):
couple of new offensive linemen. Their pass rushes is okay,
They've got some decent running backs, but they're overmatched. They're
just simply over I don't see them making the leap.
Speaker 2 (51:02):
Right in the last division, the Arizona Cardinals, right, they
finished in the last they were four and thirteen. Everybody
else was over five hundred. Now maybe you put it
together year you're better than Seattle. Don't think you're better
than the Rams. I know you're not better than San Francisco.
No way, Arizona goes from where it's the first in
this great division here.
Speaker 3 (51:20):
No way we talked about a minute ago. Obviously the Chargers,
their bugaboo is going to be getting past the Chiefs,
right it's that division is going to go through Kansas City,
where the NFC West is simply going to go through
San Francisco. And the gap and the talent disparity between
the Cardinals and the San Francisco forty nine ers is huge,
(51:41):
And I think Arizona is very much in a rebuilding year.
You might get a decent year out of Kylie Murray,
you might get a decent year out of Marvin Harrison junior.
But trust me, I saw this in Detroit. I covered
ten drafts. You don't build your team on the periphery
by drafting wide receivers. You build it from the inside out.
Arizona is they've had years of bad drafting, They've had
(52:03):
years of poor defensive drafting. That pass rushing. That defense
couldn't stop a parade. They're in trouble. Arizona's got no
chance to.
Speaker 2 (52:10):
So there you go. Who we think could possibly go
from worse to first? Jeord Bernie. Four drafts in the
NFL that may come to an end of season. We're
going to get to that next right here on Fox
