discourse related to how these teams get chosen, right, because
we had a big debate when it came to Caitlin
Clark being left off and opportunities lost and all of
that fun stuff. We will get the w NBA All
Star Game, which is the women's national team against that

All Star squad, so Clark and Reese get to play together.
It's all finding good. But when it came to the
men's national team, Jalen Brown left off and then Kawhi Leonard,
I think as we all presumed was gonna happen. I've
wondered aloud yesterday on air with Jason fitz whether Martin
this wasn't a Pro Bowl kind of situation for Kawhi Leonard.

I want to hang out a little bit. I'm gonna
work out a little bit and I'm gonna get credit
for being part of this organization. But now I'm gonna
bout out.

He very much stayed. I mean, he stayed for picture day.
So that's the key, right, that's the key.

He stayed in for the team photos, which there's controversy
about that. We're gonna do that in about a half
hour from now, because you know, some of those illusions

pumping up for years. One of the Olympians really just

All right, there you go. He's barred up. Mike Jason
still on vacation. He gave us a little clue. I
did tweet out about the show yesterday, and he tweeted
back with a mcdoniell McDonald's menu with a couple of
items we don't have here, but all of it was
in in the euro was not in US dollars. So
he's still traveling abroad. If you see a guy in

a Mets or a Syracuse stuff or maybe in a
giant cape because he likes wizarding stuff, that maybe he's
that guy wandering around. But the US men's national team
first warm up yesterday, we talked about it a bunch,
just trying, you know, first blush. Look. See as as
it went through. One of the things that was in
my timeline a lot before the game, Martin was the

old Kobe Bryant running through Paul Gasol. So I was
really kind of hoping for some of that, and I
guess we got glimpses of it with Dylan Brooks and
Lebron James kind of giving each other some some forearms,
shivers up and around the lane, some attempted trips and
all of that stuff. But you come out of it
and look, if you didn't like seeing Lebron and Steph

on the court together, whatever, you're dead inside, Let's find
someone to give you a hug.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
And it's like a video game.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
It's like like when I was a kid and I
would play these video like NCA twenty twenty five is
gonna come out soon, but you used to just after
a while, you draft all of your favorite players and
go figure. That's exactly what Team USA looks like. But
I do like the fact that they formulated. I said
this the other day. This feels like an actual team here,
Like you know, sometimes it's not the All Star game

where you're just throwing guys in, but there's there's an
appropriate amount of guards, there's appropriate amount of wings. Then
now there's finally an appropriate amount of bigs. Now that
they had duel embiid dude like kids did in high school. Again,
transfer schools to play on a better team.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
And then just go follow the hell out of everybody
and go sit down. List it's twelve minutes played. I
mean that would look like a guy is like, yeah,
I don't I don't need to play in this one.
But obviously rules and rules enforcement, we watch how it's
gonna play, and very early on contact with the Biggs
was not allowed, and well he didn't learn his lesson
and was back on the bench pretty fast.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
Well, it's not only is that like the contact, because
this is the thing about international basketball versus the NBA.
We all complain about NBA officiating, but that's because that's
the ball that we watch.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
If we were watching.

International ball regularly, you would understand that all refs are terrible.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
But it's international. I mean, it's universal. I mean it's
it's like we celebrate the holidays in some way, shape
or form, even if you're not you know, going down
the Sandy Claus Lane, you're still taking the days off.
You're still going to celebrate the hell out of it,
and you're still going to expect someone to give you
a president at the end of the day.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
Yeah, well, Joel Embiid, I think he's going to have
I know, everybody was talking about knocking off the rust.
But when you just watch that first five minutes of
the team and how they kind of flowed together when
they were getting the doors blown off in the first
quarter by Canada at first half of the first quarter,
I'm like, I don't know how well the Joellenbiid that
I remember healthy fits into this international roster. I think
(07:14):
not only does he foul aton, but also he's a
ball stopper. Yeah, and as well as he plays defensively right,
which is he's a very good defender. He does he
is not a back to the basket, does not care
to be a back to the basket big man in
the way that a lot of these other guys who
are playing an international ball will be.

So I think my.

Biggest takeaway from yesterday was a USA is going to
roll to a gold medal, but b Joellenbiid probably should
probably should be coming off the bench on this roster.
But I do wonder if that's even feasible. Because Grant
Hill was on the broadcast talking about how much how
tough the recruitment process.

Was to get joellenbie to come and play for Team USA.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Well, there you go. I mean, poaching is not limited
to college recruiting. I mean, you've got to figure out
a way to get him on board. And we go
down and we'll talk about Jalen Brown and some of
his tweets. They're not as cryptic as everybody made them
out to believe. Believe you could follow the bread crumbs
pretty easily to what he's talking about. But Derek White

comes in. Anthony Edwards we said the other day and
people got all up in arms saying, what do you
mean you're the one? You're the guys I want that
guy on my squad, saying I'm the guy. I love
him along there. If he doesn't think that, and then
he went out and he bawled out, because that's that's
the thing, then you gotta go. But watching him and
Lebron write all the video that was rolling around from

hours before tip off of the two of them working
through stuff and communication, he's clearly willing to put the
time in. I think everybody just tried. Like he got
built up fast. So we did, you know, an accelerated
version of what we do in sports media. We took
our hatchets out and started trying to chop that damn
thing down really fast.

I love the unbridled, maybe perhaps unmitigated confidence. I love it,
especially if you if if reflects on the court, and
Anthony Edwards is the type of player that, to me,
it absolutely reflects on the court that he thinks he's
one bad m effort and I like that.

When I was going on, my favorite athlete was Randy
Moss because he talked crazy.

But that's it, right. I mentioned Kobe before. His whole
thing was we know what play they're gonna run, So
I'm gonna go punch my teammate in the mouth.

Yeah, I'm gonna set the tone.

And he had the look. I mean, there was no
emotion on his face, right, and he went back into
the defensive posture and away we went. But came to say,
we're not playing around, right, We're here to win this thingely.
And it's been you know, that kind of mentality that
everybody's tried to foster all these years. Hence in whatever
sport we quote mom but mentality all the time, like

I want the guy that wants to eviscerate you football, basketball, baseball,
whatever the case may be. You know, I want the
guy that wants to leave nothing left. Read of your
dignity when it's all said and done. So if I
can get a team of those guys for Team USA
and the youngest guy is the guy that's doing the
yapping off the jump, hey, that's the way.

loved it. I loved it.

I love the kids energy and attitude. And it came
out last year in the Feeble World Cup when Steve
Kerr had.

And I know the quote is now circulating a little
bit more because people are paying more attention to international
basketball in the United States basketball men's national team. But
when he goes you know, he had him on the
bench for Cam Johnson at first, and Steve Kerr told
Anthony Edwards, well, you know, even Kobe came off the
bench for Dwayne Wade came off the bench for Kobe.

And Anthony Edward said back, all right, like I get.

We need to do this to may need to do
this to win, but we ain't got no Kobe's out
here right now. And then after two practices he was
just started into the starting lineup and just happen to
be the best player on the team.

Got to going to earn your way. Cam Johnson, a
guy that keeps getting talked about still maybe on the
move before this offseason is done. By the way, the
last thing with Edwards just really quick in his postgame
talking that he did have some nerves and kind of
admitting to that, you know, the stage being a bit different, Yeah,
I mean, which is pretty cool. I mean, yeah, it's
an exhibition against Canada and a bunch of guys that

you see on the regular because what they have ten
NBA guys sure on that squad. I was really kind
of hoping there'd be a big shot or two just
for Nemhard, just so I could send video back to
Smith because he's tormented by the shot he made against
the Knicks. I think he keeps him up at night.

I mean if I was the Knicks fan too, especially
watching him put it off the back iron a few
times last night, It's like, oh, so now you want
to do like this, Now this is how you want

still hurting. And then he gets this oblique injury that
he evidently ripped off the bone and then still proceeded
to play and wrack up one hundred and nineteen catches
for fifteen hundred fifteen yards. Now, there's a promo that plays,

So he plays through this injury monster season, but just
well well known for the fact that he still thinks
of those gms, thinks of those receivers that played. Again,

going back to the Anthony Edwards conversation, Jalen Brown, whatever else,
whatever's going to motivate you to that next level of greatness.
And I don't care if you're an accountant or whatever else.
You know, you're a salesperson. You want to win that
quarterly award. Might just be a toaster, might just be
you get a little extra padding on the expense account
the next time you travel about.

know you earned it.

But that's it exactly right, I mean, and maybe it's
on a fancy your knife because you've gone up in
tax bracket, right And I'm on Rossaint Brown certainly has
gone up in tax brick absolutely, so you know, God,
that's earned it. But you know, this is just one
of those stories because we talk about it all the
time in sports across across the span, right, Hockey guys
get their reverence for what they pay play through all

the time. Basketball guys we joke about hang nails, we
joke about Now maybe you tweak Gaigel, No, no, you
played yesterday, but it's the back to back, so we
know you're not gonna go. Load management is literally a
four letter word right when we get load going out
and you can decide load and where you want to
go with that. But you know, we talked about Joel

embiid last hour sixty five games and that threshold and
wanting to get there and people were still playing. It's
too it's too much like you're missing twenty percent of
the year. Now, if you guys were dumb enough and
not to go too far on a tangent, but you're
dumb enough to tie all NBA voting to max contracts.
That's just a bad job by your union.

That one's just a joke beyond jokes as far as

But the NBA this offseason has shown like if Jaylen
Brown has any beef, it should be with him and
his players us because he's the president of a great
Williams vice president. How did they let this second and
first apron thing go into plage.

Unbelievable, An actual hard cap like that restricts draft picks
and what you can do with your roster.
Speaker 5 (21:29):
Absolutely, It's like I was like you because I mean,
obviously when it broke at first, I'm okay, a second apron,
Oh okay, this is going to be impactful. Then you
see it in practice and it's like, oh, my goodness,
who negotiated this?
Speaker 4 (21:42):
It can't be the guys like because now.
Speaker 5 (21:44):
Because now you know what the real reality is now
because there's been like that Max, right, and guys like
like a Lebron for example, especially in Cleveland, would have
made way more than the MAX if they had the
opportunity to command what these worth. But what happened in
the NBA is the floor was raised for what a
MAX contract was. Now that's over with. That's over with.

You're gonna have a whole bunch of like the Brandon
Ingram's of the world. The reason is not that he
can't play anymore, is nobody wants to pay him what's
dollars years to exactly right.

I saw that That's what his expectation was. Report earlier
this week, it's like, yeah, hence the crickets, uh coming
out of New MS. But yeah, it's it's funny that
the process, you know, and lebron you know, lauded for
the fact that he signed for a little bit under
the max that he could have because it kept them

forty five thousand dollars short of that second apron.

So they can make approximately what move because what is that?

And then you know, you can go conspiracy theory by

and whatever else. Right, it's all it's all going to
the same house. No exactly how.

Wow, just well, he doesn't need the house he's supposed

quite the maintenance of the old man. But yeah, it's
it's an interesting conversation. I'd stay home at least for
a little while.

I would live at home right now if I could.

Now? That would that would not end well for me.
I feel you at all. So I'm having some flashbacks.

But yeah, just to finish the point, right, as we
come back to the Aman Ross Saint Brown, you know,
revealing of this oblique injury is you recognize and the
guys you talk to around the studios here right that
had played in the league, and you won't believe what
this guy went through or what I had to do

to get back on the field. But it's always kind
of muted because in the NFL, like we we don't,
we don't have an expectation that you know, there's that sanctity. Like,
we know, guys are getting shot up with vitamin T
and whatever else to get out there, shoot it up.

There's an X deal with it later.

There's an expectation that you are at some point in
the season you will get hurt.

That you're kind of messed up to some degree. Now
this is maybe a little more extreme. I think we
would expect, right, I mean when we go down the road,
you know, I always want the Drew Brees commentary as
he's retired and he goes, yeah, if I could, if
my shoulder hadn't gone it so play. Well, yeah, your
arm was toast, but but you did everything you could

maintenance wise to drag that out as long as you could.
And how many guys you know, immediately it's like, well,
now it's a badge of honor. They're holding up like
their Wilt Chamberlain with the number of surgeries in their
post career. I'm at nineteen, how about you.

They kind of into the slight donut glazed eye right
there in Greg Olsen's face as he was standing there,
and he I mean looked great by the way He's disheveled,

I mean he gets after it. I mean there's no
question about it. Loved him what with the Bears, and
I've been salty ever since they got rid of him
because it was a bad move. We had a great
conversation at a Super Bowl party many years ago. I'm like,

you a question.

How many buttons did he have on at that point?

No, No, it was early in the night. We you know,
we were still we hadn't gotten to that part of
the evening quite yet. We did run into each other
a little bit later, but Christian McCaffrey replied, well, you know,
it would have been nice to have him there. There
was a great night. But you know what, I've been
better if Cam were here. I haven't gotten a text

back in four years. In fact, they just go green now.
So Cam, there's your reason for the invite, but it
is always because he did go on. In the podcast
the fourth and one Podcast with Cam Newton got to
explain me, Hey invite me. I would have sent you
a gift or something. But I've always told people here,
you're getting married together. I don't need to come. You

could literally write, do not come, but let me know
you got something going on and send me the registry link.
I will probably send you a pretty nice present. I'm
that guy. I want to be your teammate. I get it.
There's limitations, and maybe you hate me. Maybe he put
up with me in the hallway is just enough. But
invite us.

I will say, when you think that you have the
potential to be invited to a wedding, like, I don't
know if you keep track of this type of stuff
in your head. I didn't until I got about this
age when one of my friends started getting married. But
do you think you have potential to be invited to
a wedding and then you don't get invited?

I mean, it just breaks your heart.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
See I crossed that bridge a long long time ago.
Now I got eighteen and sixteen year old, so it
was always becoming a much bigger deal. Are they going
down to one of the set of grandparents. How does
this play family? Not family? Because a lot of them
modern day kids aren't coming. Absolutely, that's a whole other world.

That's Gault's only.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Party, which really implies a whole lot of other things
could potentially be going on. So, yeah, you want to
go to that party, But the idea of being if
it's a travel thing, there's a lot of implications, a
lot of expectations. But yeah, once upon a time, maybe
I would get a little bit out of sorts, Like really,
I thought we were a little better off than that.
(32:55):
And then you think about, well, they're paying for it themselves.
I'm an extra head that's got to fly across. They're
doing me a favor, so I'll just stay home.

I get I was.

I was recently not invited to a wedding this summer,
and I felt very much like Cam Newton did.

I would have at least got you a gift. Now

Did you see his date? He's doing just fine. Finals,
MVP Easter Converence. He's living at large andres that one
of the Gondras access to He's he's doing just fine.

Jayl No, no, no, nobody's feeling sorry for Jaylen Brown. If
nothing else, it does add to so some of the
discourse related to how these teams get chosen, right, because
we had a big debate when it came to Caitlin
Clark being left off and opportunities lost and all of
that fun stuff. We will get the w NBA All
Star Game, which is the women's national team against that

All Star squad, so Clark and Reese get to play together.
It's all finding good. But when it came to the
men's national team, Jalen Brown left off and then Kawhi Leonard,
I think as we all presumed was gonna happen. I've
wondered aloud yesterday on air with Jason fitz whether Martin
this wasn't a Pro Bowl kind of situation for Kawhi Leonard.

I want to hang out a little bit. I'm gonna
work out a little bit and I'm gonna get credit
for being part of this organization. But now I'm gonna
bout out.

He very much stayed. I mean, he stayed for picture day.
So that's the key, right, that's the key.

He stayed in for the team photos, which there's controversy
about that. We're gonna do that in about a half
hour from now, because you know, some of those illusions
have been shattered. All of those things that we've been
pumping up for years. One of the Olympians really just
put a giant pin in the balloon. You find Martin

Did you picture someone there that you were yelling at?

yelling at the neighbor. I don't know, that's a good question.
I just kind of zoned out and I looked up
and I was, oh, it's been twelve minutes.

All right, there you go. He's barred up. Mike Jason
still on vacation. He gave us a little clue. I
did tweet out about the show yesterday, and he tweeted
back with a mcdoniell McDonald's menu with a couple of
items we don't have here, but all of it was
in in the euro was not in US dollars. So
he's still traveling abroad. If you see a guy in

a Mets or a Syracuse stuff or maybe in a
giant cape because he likes wizarding stuff, that maybe he's
that guy wandering around. But the US men's national team
first warm up yesterday, we talked about it a bunch,
just trying, you know, first blush. Look. See as as
it went through. One of the things that was in
my timeline a lot before the game, Martin was the
(04:55):
old Kobe Bryant running through Paul Gasol. So I was
really kind of hoping for some of that, and I
guess we got glimpses of it with Dylan Brooks and
Lebron James kind of giving each other some some forearms,
shivers up and around the lane, some attempted trips and
all of that stuff. But you come out of it
and look, if you didn't like seeing Lebron and Steph
(05:16):
on the court together, whatever, you're dead inside, Let's find
someone to give you a hug.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
And it's like a video game.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
It's like like when I was a kid and I
would play these video like NCA twenty twenty five is
gonna come out soon, but you used to just after
a while, you draft all of your favorite players and
go figure. That's exactly what Team USA looks like. But
I do like the fact that they formulated. I said
this the other day. This feels like an actual team here,
Like you know, sometimes it's not the All Star game
(05:43):
where you're just throwing guys in, but there's there's an
appropriate amount of guards, there's appropriate amount of wings. Then
now there's finally an appropriate amount of bigs. Now that
they had duel embiid dude like kids did in high school. Again,
transfer schools to play on a better team.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
And then just go follow the hell out of everybody
and go sit down. List it's twelve minutes played. I
mean that would look like a guy is like, yeah,
I don't I don't need to play in this one.
But obviously rules and rules enforcement, we watch how it's
gonna play, and very early on contact with the Biggs
was not allowed, and well he didn't learn his lesson
and was back on the bench pretty fast.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
Well, it's not only is that like the contact, because
this is the thing about international basketball versus the NBA.
We all complain about NBA officiating, but that's because that's
the ball that we watch.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
If we were watching.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
International ball regularly, you would understand that all refs are terrible.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
But it's international. I mean, it's universal. I mean it's
it's like we celebrate the holidays in some way, shape
or form, even if you're not you know, going down
the Sandy Claus Lane, you're still taking the days off.
You're still going to celebrate the hell out of it,
and you're still going to expect someone to give you
a president at the end of the day.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
Yeah, well, Joel Embiid, I think he's going to have
I know, everybody was talking about knocking off the rust.
But when you just watch that first five minutes of
the team and how they kind of flowed together when
they were getting the doors blown off in the first
quarter by Canada at first half of the first quarter,
I'm like, I don't know how well the Joellenbiid that
I remember healthy fits into this international roster. I think
(07:14):
not only does he foul aton, but also he's a
ball stopper. Yeah, and as well as he plays defensively right,
which is he's a very good defender. He does he
is not a back to the basket, does not care
to be a back to the basket big man in
the way that a lot of these other guys who
are playing an international ball will be.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
So I think my.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
Biggest takeaway from yesterday was a USA is going to
roll to a gold medal, but b Joellenbiid probably should
probably should be coming off the bench on this roster.
But I do wonder if that's even feasible. Because Grant
Hill was on the broadcast talking about how much how
tough the recruitment process.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
Was to get joellenbie to come and play for Team USA.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Well, there you go. I mean, poaching is not limited
to college recruiting. I mean, you've got to figure out
a way to get him on board. And we go
down and we'll talk about Jalen Brown and some of
his tweets. They're not as cryptic as everybody made them
out to believe. Believe you could follow the bread crumbs
pretty easily to what he's talking about. But Derek White
(08:18):
comes in. Anthony Edwards we said the other day and
people got all up in arms saying, what do you
mean you're the one? You're the guys I want that
guy on my squad, saying I'm the guy. I love
him along there. If he doesn't think that, and then
he went out and he bawled out, because that's that's
the thing, then you gotta go. But watching him and
Lebron write all the video that was rolling around from
(08:40):
hours before tip off of the two of them working
through stuff and communication, he's clearly willing to put the
time in. I think everybody just tried. Like he got
built up fast. So we did, you know, an accelerated
version of what we do in sports media. We took
our hatchets out and started trying to chop that damn
thing down really fast.
Speaker 5 (09:00):
I love the unbridled, maybe perhaps unmitigated confidence. I love it,
especially if you if if reflects on the court, and
Anthony Edwards is the type of player that, to me,
it absolutely reflects on the court that he thinks he's
one bad m effort and I like that.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
When I was going on, my favorite athlete was Randy
Moss because he talked crazy.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
But that's it, right. I mentioned Kobe before. His whole
thing was we know what play they're gonna run, So
I'm gonna go punch my teammate in the mouth.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
Yeah, I'm gonna set the tone.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
And he had the look. I mean, there was no
emotion on his face, right, and he went back into
the defensive posture and away we went. But came to say,
we're not playing around, right, We're here to win this thingely.
And it's been you know, that kind of mentality that
everybody's tried to foster all these years. Hence in whatever
sport we quote mom but mentality all the time, like
(09:50):
I want the guy that wants to eviscerate you football, basketball, baseball,
whatever the case may be. You know, I want the
guy that wants to leave nothing left. Read of your
dignity when it's all said and done. So if I
can get a team of those guys for Team USA
and the youngest guy is the guy that's doing the
yapping off the jump, hey, that's the way.

What it is. It is what it is. But I
loved it. I loved it.

I love the kids energy and attitude. And it came
out last year in the Feeble World Cup when Steve
Kerr had.

And I know the quote is now circulating a little
bit more because people are paying more attention to international
basketball in the United States basketball men's national team. But
when he goes you know, he had him on the
bench for Cam Johnson at first, and Steve Kerr told
Anthony Edwards, well, you know, even Kobe came off the
bench for Dwayne Wade came off the bench for Kobe.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
And Anthony Edward said back, all right, like I get.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
We need to do this to may need to do
this to win, but we ain't got no Kobe's out
here right now. And then after two practices he was
just started into the starting lineup and just happen to
be the best player on the team.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Got to going to earn your way. Cam Johnson, a
guy that keeps getting talked about still maybe on the
move before this offseason is done. By the way, the
last thing with Edwards just really quick in his postgame
talking that he did have some nerves and kind of
admitting to that, you know, the stage being a bit different, Yeah,
I mean, which is pretty cool. I mean, yeah, it's
an exhibition against Canada and a bunch of guys that

you see on the regular because what they have ten
NBA guys sure on that squad. I was really kind
of hoping there'd be a big shot or two just
for Nemhard, just so I could send video back to
Smith because he's tormented by the shot he made against
the Knicks. I think he keeps him up at night.

I mean if I was the Knicks fan too, especially
watching him put it off the back iron a few
times last night, It's like, oh, so now you want
to do like this, Now this is how you want
to show. It's a bigger stage. It's an international stage.

and what you can do with your roster.

see it in practice and it's like, oh, my goodness,
who negotiated this?

It can't be the guys like because now.

Because now you know what the real reality is now
because there's been like that Max, right, and guys like
like a Lebron for example, especially in Cleveland, would have
made way more than the MAX if they had the
opportunity to command what these worth. But what happened in
the NBA is the floor was raised for what a
MAX contract was. Now that's over with. That's over with.

You're gonna have a whole bunch of like the Brandon
Ingram's of the world. The reason is not that he
can't play anymore, is nobody wants to pay him what's
dollars years to exactly right.

I saw that That's what his expectation was. Report earlier
this week, it's like, yeah, hence the crickets, uh coming
out of New MS. But yeah, it's it's funny that
the process, you know, and lebron you know, lauded for

Wow, just well, he doesn't need the house he's supposed

quite the maintenance of the old man. But yeah, it's
it's an interesting conversation. I'd stay home at least for
a little while.

I would live at home right now if I could.

Now? That would that would not end well for me.

But yeah, just to finish the point, right, as we
come back to the Aman Ross Saint Brown, you know,
revealing of this oblique injury is you recognize and the
guys you talk to around the studios here right that
had played in the league, and you won't believe what
this guy went through or what I had to do

to get back on the field. But it's always kind
of muted because in the NFL, like we we don't,
we don't have an expectation that you know, there's that sanctity. Like,
we know, guys are getting shot up with vitamin T
and whatever else to get out there, shoot it up.

There's an X deal with it later.
Speaker 5 (24:51):
There's an expectation that you are at some point in
the season you will get hurt.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
That you're kind of messed up to some degree. Now
this is maybe a little more extreme. I think we
would expect, right, I mean when we go down the road,
you know, I always want the Drew Brees commentary as
he's retired and he goes, yeah, if I could, if
my shoulder hadn't gone it so play. Well, yeah, your
arm was toast, but but you did everything you could

maintenance wise to drag that out as long as you could.
And how many guys you know, immediately it's like, well,
now it's a badge of honor. They're holding up like
their Wilt Chamberlain with the number of surgeries in their
post career. I'm at nineteen, how about you.

They kind of into the slight donut glazed eye right
there in Greg Olsen's face as he was standing there,
and he I mean looked great by the way He's disheveled,

I mean he gets after it. I mean there's no
question about it. Loved him what with the Bears, and
I've been salty ever since they got rid of him

you a question.

How many buttons did he have on at that point?
Speaker 2 (30:45):
No, No, it was early in the night. We you know,
we were still we hadn't gotten to that part of
the evening quite yet. We did run into each other
a little bit later, but Christian McCaffrey replied, well, you know,
it would have been nice to have him there. There
was a great night. But you know what, I've been
better if Cam were here. I haven't gotten a text

back in four years. In fact, they just go green now.
So Cam, there's your reason for the invite, but it
is always because he did go on. In the podcast
the fourth and one Podcast with Cam Newton got to
explain me, Hey invite me. I would have sent you
a gift or something. But I've always told people here,
you're getting married together. I don't need to come. You

could literally write, do not come, but let me know
you got something going on and send me the registry link.
I will probably send you a pretty nice present. I'm
that guy. I want to be your teammate. I get it.
There's limitations, and maybe you hate me. Maybe he put
up with me in the hallway is just enough. But
invite us.

Yeah, exactly. Here's a spatula, here's the you know, the
forty dollars ice tray that your parents all told you

I will say, when you think that you have the
potential to be invited to a wedding, like, I don't
know if you keep track of this type of stuff
in your head. I didn't until I got about this
age when one of my friends started getting married. But
do you think you have potential to be invited to
a wedding and then you don't get invited?

I mean, it just breaks your heart.

See I crossed that bridge a long long time ago.
Now I got eighteen and sixteen year old, so it
was always becoming a much bigger deal. Are they going
down to one of the set of grandparents. How does
this play family? Not family? Because a lot of them
modern day kids aren't coming. Absolutely, that's a whole other world.

That's Gault's only.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Party, which really implies a whole lot of other things
could potentially be going on. So, yeah, you want to
go to that party, But the idea of being if
it's a travel thing, there's a lot of implications, a
lot of expectations. But yeah, once upon a time, maybe
I would get a little bit out of sorts, Like really,
I thought we were a little better off than that.
(32:55):
And then you think about, well, they're paying for it themselves.
I'm an extra head that's got to fly across. They're
doing me a favor, so I'll just stay home.

I was recently not invited to a wedding this summer,
and I felt very much like Cam Newton did.
