(00:49):
All right, I would ask you, ty Shirt, and I want
to ask you, come on, come on in if you will.
You've played this for years and I'm still upset about
the flatbread the other night. So let me ask you this.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
We got pizza to nam.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
What is what? Yeah? Right?

Speaker 3 (01:03):
What is literally eating pizza right now?

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Well, you're gonna buy pizza on Monday night?

Speaker 4 (01:06):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:06):
No, no, what is the this time? It counts. What
is that in reference from in the world of sports? No,
that's right, I know what it's from. I know what
it's from. Do you know what it's from? MLB? Baby?
What about it?

Speaker 3 (01:21):
That's what it's from, right right?

Speaker 1 (01:23):
But in reference to what.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
To playing baseball?

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Oh? Right, very good? Okay, that's okay, Kay. Can you
go a little bit deeper?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Okay, So the voiceover is articulating how important it is
that this time it actually counts.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
TiSER was the kid in high school that would have
the math problem and would have the right answer but
not show any work, and the teacher would say, I
can only give you half credit. But I got the
answer right. The answer was seventeen and a half. Yeah,
but I didn't see how you got there. I got
there seventeen. I got the right answer right right there.
Who just told you?

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Nobody? Okay, I'm literally sitting here with Mike across the globe.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
But tell me, I swear like we're not playing a
game where I'm you know, giving him hand signals or
anything to get an answer. Okay, all right, right, I
mean like we're not We're not doing any of that. No, no, no,
he's just sitting there he was literally eating a piece
of vizza and just kind of hanging out. Would you
like to know Jason?

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Yeah, yeah, go ahead, tycher.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Do you want me to actually answer it correctly?

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Well? I do now that someone must have told you
the answer, because you've had enough time to someone get
in your ear and tell you. Go it tell.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
But his microphone's been on the whole time.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
It doesn't matter. He can still no, come on, stop.
He just presses a button. He goes, hey, somebody tell
me he is No. I did not say that, Okay,
so what is it?

Speaker 4 (02:37):
I may have asked Steve what it was. I mean,
Steve's a wizard, so I meant.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
But I could see Steve saying, oh, yeah, you know
this time it counts as about the back in baseball
in twenty ten, when a bunch of teams played games
and didn't count them. So uh, now it's it was
a whole bunch of games where teams lie, like the
Yankees lost a bunch of games, we just didn't count them.
So now they want to make sure people knew which
games counted which games didn't.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
How dare you disrespect Steve like them? That is the
old All Star game one Jason.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Oh, very nice, Thank you, Steve, very nice. Very Now,
speaking of All Star games, the biggest event in sports
this weekend is the WNBA All Star Game.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
It's not the US men's basketball team tomorrow against the
Sudan No.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Come on, man, not happening. No lots of big basebugget. No,
biggest event is the WNBA All Star Game. We'll tell
you why in a couple of minutes. But first tonight
was the pageantry night. We had the skill competitions. We
had the three point competitions. Yeah, the big night we had.
Look and ESPN's got it on. Look. WNBA at the
Break is a thing, right, They're taking a month off,

(03:48):
everybody's getting ready. After the All Star Game, the Olympic
team goes to Paris to compete. You know, look the WNBA.
We told you when Caitlin Clark was about to enter,
She's gonna have the Magic and Larry effect on the game.
She's both of them. She's Magic and Larry because all
of these things are happening because of her. And look
where the league is every night they're aheadline and them

(04:09):
being at the All Star break and taking a look
at where things stand, looking back and looking ahead like
we usually do in baseball and basketball at the All
Star break. It's become a thing now, right But tonight,
first thing before we do that, look ahead before before
we look ahead to the game this weekend. Tonight, Caitlin
Clark didn't participate in the three point shooting competition, and

(04:30):
I know she got a lot of flak for it.
There are a lot of how do you not do this?
We talk about her growing the game, and the answer
she gave wasn't great. It was kind of a load
of crap. She said, you know, I'm tired. It's been
a long it's been a long season so far. I'm
excited for the break, but I'm kind of tired. I
want to enjoy and have this All Star weekend. We
have a game tomorrow and you know, just grabbing balls

(04:51):
shooting them cold off the rack. I don't know if
that's something I you know, it's just it's just not
something I really feel like it's something I want. I
want to do right now.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
Plenty of time to do it was the summary statement
of it.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Yeah yeah, yeah, So I hear that, and I'm like, okay,
I get that, but I'll tell you exactly why. She
didn't do it. First of all, it's the same reason
why superstars don't do the slam dunk contest, right, why
Lebron doesn't do the slam dunk contest, why Yannis doesn't
do it. It takes a very special guy like Steph
Curry to say, sure, three point shootout, sabrina, I'd ask

(05:25):
you absolutely if I lose, I lose. It takes a
very special guy with an ego like that to be
okay with doing all. And that's why Steph Curry is
so special, right, because of the way he carries himself
and the confidence he has and the ways, Yes, I
understand that what I do is viewed out by a
lot of people, but this is good for the game.
He just has that special way about him that I

(05:46):
wish more people did. But Caitlin Clark, you know, she's
got that superstar attitude that that other superstars have. There's
no win for her in the three point shooting contest
because the best she can do is as ex which
is well, Caitlin Clark's gonna win, right, so, I mean,
and if she loses, it's whoa Caitlyn Clark loses the
three point contest to somebody nobody even knows who they are.

(06:09):
Look how embarrassing this is for Caitlyn Clark and people
turn it into something that it's not. She doesn't want
that headline. Again, no stars do because they can't win.
If she has a great competition and she wins, awesome,
she's supposed to. If not, it's all look at Kitlyn
Clark is still really that good. So yeah, it's stars
don't do it. But still, if she was shooting better

(06:33):
from three this season, if she felt better about her
three point shot, she would do it. But right now
it's it's it's in the toilet, right it's the one
part of her game where I say, after the first
half of the season, what I'm surprised about the most.
I mean, the fact is she's become the best point
guard in the game. She leads the league and assists.
She just set a record for most assists in a game.
And now the NWNBA it's even more embarrassing. They didn't

(06:55):
take her for the Olympics. Now they just look petty
and jealous. But her three point which is her bread
and butter, it's coming into the league, it's logo threes,
it's her game. Was Steph Curry's game coming into the league. Now,
maybe it's gonna wind up being even better in the
long run, but right now, she's shooting about thirty two
percent from three point range. You know, normally she's up

(07:15):
around thirty eight thirty nine percent what she had been
in her career. And there's a big difference when you're
going five for twelve from three point range compared to
three for eleven or or two for ten on a
nightly basis, And that's kind of what she's been. It's
the one thing she struggled with has been her three
point success. So the fact that superstars don't do it,

(07:36):
but still Caitlyn Clark, I'm sure she'd want to do
it at some point. If she was feeling more confident
about what she could do from three point range, then
I think she would do it. But I think those
were the two Those are the two biggest things that
contribute the fact that, well, A, we didn't get Kitlyn
Clark on Friday night, and those are the two things.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
Yeah, it's a difficult thing, you know, because i'd ask
you had the opportunity to defend the three point shooting
title from last year, she opted out started talking about
the concentration towards the Olympics and getting a gold medal
and pressed on it a little bit, circled back to
the same answer, and that became her standard talking point
with Caitlin Clark. She looks tired right at a lot

(08:17):
of media, a lot of you know, shaking hands, kissing babies.
Some more comfortable than others. I think a lot of
it becomes the how hard are we trying to do?
A Q and a like, come on, Caitlyn, give us something,
versus Hey, it's good to meet you. We're here at
the All Star break, let's have some fun. So definitely
decidedly different interactions than you saw sitting down with her

(08:40):
teammate Aleah Boston and Asia Wilson watching the competition, having
a laugh, having some popcorn and just having some snacks
and having a good laugh. And you can see a
little bit of the weight of the world kind of
off her shoulders, because, let's face it, you know, the
last couple of months, it's been NonStop chatter within the
echo chamber of the league, right and the W and

(09:03):
then all the outside voices, and you're trying to parse
through noise and a lot of you know, hot take
theater and everything and then just get back to playing basketball.
So yeah, there's no win, right If she doesn't win
it and shoots poorly, the hot takers come out in
full throat. If she does, it's just well, she was
supposed to She suppose you know, she was the hope,

(09:24):
she was the league. She's this is what she's supposed
to do. So I don't know how much of a
win there was in this particular time for it for
the league. Yeah, participation from her in any of these
events is a huge win, as well as Sabrina i'd escue,
you know, the other name that came just before. But
going forward, will she want to get back into it

(09:45):
at some point? Maybe maybe because you might need the
goose things in a year or two. You don't know.
I mean, the trajectory is certainly off the charts right now,
and people looking at the large television revenue deal that's
been been agreed upon and everything else that flows from there.
That's all finding good. But now it's also about the

(10:06):
sustained success of the huge crowds that she and the
Fever are drawing, and hopefully the average for all the
other teams starts to raise up to when you announce expansion,
you're expecting, you know, great things ahead, And she's certainly
still gonna have to be the head of the proverbial
snake going forward, whether people like it or not, whether

(10:28):
they get tired of hearing about her, Angel Reese and
the stars of the WNBA. When you start talking about
a multi billion dollar TV deal, Yeah, the eyes, the
eyes widen and everybody perks up. And this would have
been a great opportunity to showcase her tonight. I understand
the reasons, reasons slash excuses as we go through, right,

(10:50):
try to parse between.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
As far as the game goes. Now, this is where
things get really interesting.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
Yeah, yeah, we've got an a modest proposal.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
We are going to see and this sounds like a
bold prediction, but it's not. We are going to see
the most competitive All Star game in any sport in
the last twenty years, any sport.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
This time it counts.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
Yeah, this time it counts. Even when Baseball had their
hey home field advantage at the World Series. Yeah, that's great,
it's All Star weekend, blah blah blah blah blah. But
we are gonna see the most competitive All Star game
that any of US have seen in twenty years. Why
because of the format being the Olympic Team against the

(11:37):
All Stars now normally built in. Okay, you have the
Olympic team that doesn't want to lose because they're the
Olympic team, and then you have the All Stars a
little bit of chip on their shoulder, We're not good
enough for the Olympic team. We want to have a
good showing. So you have that built in, But now
you amp it up on all kinds of steroids, and
I mean I mean figurative steroids, because you have an

(11:57):
Olympic team that did all they could to keep Caitlin
Clark off of this team. Ryl Reeve, the players, you know,
they didn't want her. Everything you see Cheryl Reeves say,
you know they didn't want her. You know, the players
didn't want Nobody wanted her. And now she's turned into
one of the best players in the league right away.
And again she's the best guard in the WNBA this year.

(12:20):
Everybody they're taking is not as good as Caitlyn Clark
this year. So it's embarrassing if they lose this game.
So now the Olympic team is going in here not
saying it's a tune up. We're gonna play a lot
of them. No, they can't walk out of this game, losers.
They can't walk out of this game losing to Caitlyn Clark,
losing to Angelries can't do it. They can So they're

(12:42):
gonna do everything they can to win this game. Meanwhile,
on the other side, you know how piss Caitlin Clark is, Oh,
you didn't pick me for the Olympic team, okay, And
you could just see in her style of play where oh,
you didn't pick me because you think I'm just gonna
be a shoot first point guard. Here, I've already become
the best point guard in the game and I'm leading
the league in assists. Yeah, take that. You know how
badly she wants to show them she should be on

(13:03):
the team. Angel Reese wants to be on the team.
Ariqueo Gunbawally, who pulled out of Olympic consideration because she
didn't like the way the politics decided players on the team,
which shows you there's more at stake. Like we said,
with not liking Caitlyn Clark, they want to destroy them.
They want to embarrass the Olympic team and win this game.

(13:23):
So you're not just gonna see. Hey, I'm out here
taking some shots. All of this it is going to
be unbelievably competitive, unlike any All Star game we've seen
the last twenty years, just because of the stakes this year,
this moment in time. I'm not saying it's gonna be
this way every year, but you have the special format
with the Olympic players playing against the All Stars. You

(13:44):
have Caitlyn Clark getting snubbed. All of this is gonna
go win. I can't wait for this game. I can't
wait to see this game.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
I'll take Team WNBA plus five and a half.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
Look, I'd love that, buddy. I'd love to see that,
because boy, how much chaos would that be? And it
would gre to say, hey, we win the game, we
get to go to Paris. I think that's the end.

Speaker 4 (14:03):
Yeah, you stay at home.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
I'd love that. But you're talking about the Olympic team.
These are twelve of the best fifteen players on the
planet are playing on this team, and you're taking the
rest of the best players from.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
The wouldn't it be the greatest? Would be the greatest
jersey swap ever?

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Hand it over, Kaylyn Clark is just throwing jerseys out
to people and no one's handing them merge ceremonially.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
You have to hand over your Olympic jersey. Let's go.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Look, but you are you are talking about these women
who've played together on the Olympics. They know each other's game.
They're the better players overall than the twelve players we're
getting on the WNBA All Star team. Right. I would
be extremely said, I want them to win. I want
to see that case. But if this isn't the Olympic

(14:52):
team eventually pulling away and winning by twenty I'll be
really stunned. I'll be the most stun guy in the world.
Because the Olympics, they're playing for a lot. Yes, the
WNBA team is playing for a lot, but they have
the better players up and down the roster. You know,
maybe of the of the top fourteen or fifteen players
in this game, the Olympic team has all but one

(15:15):
or two of them. I mean to be quite honest, like,
maybe you know a cup, but so how do you
not win with that being especially you've played together before.
You know, so you've played together, you went throughout one
of the big things, or we can't take Caitlyn Cheers,
wasn't with US, so these players have all played together.
I really think this is gonna wind up being a
game where they pull away. I'll be stunned if it's
not most stunned guy in the world. And I want

(15:36):
to see it happen. I want to see Caitlyn Clark
go for fifty and Angel Rees pulled down twenty five
rebounds and Riqueo gun Biwally score forty points on forty shots.
I want to see that because because all those things
is gonnap, especially the gun bowally part of it. I
want to see that, but I just can't see it happen.

Speaker 2 (15:51):

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith's Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon, Matt Shoe, Yeah, I kind of felt
that way after the Mets loss of the Marlins to
night really really four enough, really this.

Speaker 4 (18:30):
Day you were all jacked up, you know, or coming
back from your vacation. Matt's Matt's match, DeVante Adams is
going to be a jet, all of his positivity and
then you lose to the Marlins. Yeah, and then the
White Sox you know on what has now been dubbed.

Speaker 1 (18:43):
It's Carlton Fisk. You're twenty seven and seventy two, Carlton
Fisk Knight, both of his jersey numbers.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
Congratulations, Mark, who's ready to come in as technical producer
for Bernie Fratto. White Sox guy just nodding his head.
He's got that sad white soize. I think it's all
just uh, we all have that same look on our
veins all the time. It's called white Sox face.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Now we're gonna get to a couple of Big Bowl
predictions for the second half of the baseball season, the
second but we're getting set this weekend for the second
half of the Open Championship, the last major of the year.
We talked about Tiger Woods a few minutes ago, missing
the cut. Look, if he's still playing after twenty twenty five,
I'll be stunned. You know, the guy, he looks like
he's done. But you know, one of the most shocking things,

(19:30):
you know, I always think about the Open Championship is
is watching it. It's my favorite golf term. I always
I always love staying up later, getting up early and
watching it. But going getting up early, Oh no, no, no, no, no,
I'm still trying to get back on LA time. Man,
I've been back from Scotland for four days. I'm still
trying to get back.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
Serious, you're still struggling.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
Not as bad as it was the first couple of days,
but I was like, man, I really need to get
back on that clock. But you know, it's always fun
and and and and seeing people golf in the middle
of July and they're wearing gray sweatshirts and hoodies and
long pants and I gotta be honest going to Scotland, right,
we went to England and Scotland. Right we went to
England right before I did. The weather was okay, it

(20:12):
wasn't quite shorts weather, but it was more T shirt
thin pants, that's kind of it.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
Maybe a thin pullover that long sleeve T shirt kind
of thing.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
Yeah, yeah, that's what London was. But then we went
to Scotland and it's rainy and it's cold and it's
forty degrees and I'm saying, I'm in a fleece and
heavy pants every single day, Like I'm I'm in a
hoodie and a fleece jacket and pants because we're out
going to see all the different Harry Potter. Oh yeah,
places you know, Dumbledore's Grave and the Hogwarts Express and

(20:46):
Dobby's Grave and the Black Lake and oh my god,
it was such a great tour. But I'm going, this
is the middle of the bleep in summer and it's
it's like forty degrees and even people there were going,
can you believe this weather? Just just up until a
couple of days ago, it was great, it was seventy.
I'm like, oh my god, middle of the summer at
seventy but this is the weather in Scotland. I'm going,
this is amazing. I mean, I can't believe how cold

(21:08):
it is. I mean I packed shorts and I'm like,
why did they even pack shorts? Why I didn't even
need to pack it. I need more long pants. I
had to go to the you know, because you know
me and like the shop. I'm like, oh, of course
I'm gonna go buy more long pants because I need
more long pants. This is ridiculous. I get it's freezing
cold every single day, and yeah, you watch the Open
Championship and you go, oh, yeah, it's absolutely that's absolutely

(21:30):
what it is. It's windy, it's rainy. Everybody dresses the same,
a gray sweater or hoodie and black pants, or a
black sweater or hoodie like one of those foreign fitting
hoodies and gray pants. Like that's everybody on a golf
course in in Scotland. That's what it is. And it's
just it blows my mind. The weather it was incredible.

Speaker 4 (21:49):
Well and that's the thing, right is you know the
elements come into play here. You're not getting mad, like, look,
I'm driving around in southern California it's ninety five degrees.
You get Inland a little bit and across the country
we've seen so many crazy chaotic weather events. Uh, you
know those kind of things. You know, if you can
help out, if you you know, if you're inclined, you know,

(22:12):
you can find all the data, uh and and places
by which just to help out. But yeah, I mean
that just a huge shift in you know, a small
travel change for you, right, I mean, what was it
What did it take to get from from London to
where you were in Scotland? An hour?

Speaker 1 (22:31):
Right? No? No? No, we we we went to we
went to Edinburgh, so it was about three hours. But
you know the best part. We took the train and
we went through Grimsby Town and I was like, Grimsby
Town from Wrexham, you know they like that. Yeah, I'm like,
oh my, I was so excited. All we're doing we're
stopping at Grimsby Town. That's didn't get off the train.
I'm like, oh my god, we're stopping it.

Speaker 4 (22:52):
But you picked up some people from Grimsby Town. Yeah,
did you find any of them? Start talking to them?
He let's talk about Wrexham. How do you feel you
were portrayed on the show. No, you could have been
our reporter on the scene.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
Oh, that was about going, oh my god, we're going
through Grimsey and because Pam and I, you know, huge
Wrecksom fans, we're talking about the game. I said, no,
that was a game they lost five to four in
the first season that kept them from going up and
getting promoted. Grimsby Town. Grimsby Town. It was like, oh
my god, we're going there, Grimsby Town. It was like
it was such a nerd for like five minutes going
Grimsby Town. This is the best I get town.

Speaker 4 (23:29):
Well, you know, Wrexham actually plays up at Santa Clara
this coming week.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (23:33):
It was one of the things that was kind of
flipping on the board. When we went up to see
the Stones and they had issues letting us in, so
we got to watch the rolling billboards for a long time,
as well as the roller coasters at the local six
Flags Great America that's right next door, so we had
a little bit of that, so that.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
Was nice, all right. So there you go. Hey, listen,
we can't let you in, but we have something else
for you. All right.

Speaker 4 (23:54):
Great, But then you got Chelsea against the Celtic FC
at Notre Dame Stadium. I mean you got you got
a bunch of chaos going on there and soccer matches
crea to do. But yeah, look, the Open is always
fun because you get the wild range of scores depending
on which way the wind's blowing and weather it's raining
right where you have some days like all right, you

(24:16):
can run, run and hide and have put up some
great scores. Otherwise it looks like, you know, your Saturday
and Sunday Duffer, just out there trying to get through
eighteen holes with some sanity left and intact. So that's
one of the great things about the Open, the great equalizer.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
You know. And the crazy part and the craziest part
about it was when we went we didn't even know
we were near Saint Andrews. So getting to go to
Saint Andrews is like a bonus for me. God. I'm like,
oh my god, I'm walking on Saint Andrews. This is
so amazing. And there's actually a Captain of the Links
of Saint Andrews, like from Caddyshack. I didn't know it
was a real thing. I saw the guy's parking spot.

(24:55):
I wanted to take a picture with him, and they said, no,
he's gone for the day. I'm like, I want to
go somebody else, stand in and pretend, just pretend you're
the cata Or of the Lynx of Saint Andrews and
wear that red jacket that smells got That would be fantastic.
But I took a picture of parking space. I'm like,
it's a real thing, the Cataor of the Lynx of
Saint Andrews.

Speaker 4 (25:13):
I did see the picture of the parking spot. This
is what we know. We've hit tourism on a higher
level and and deep nerddom. Look, I took a picture
of the barking spot.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
People just thought I'm crazy. That's all right, because I
want to say, do people do people ask to take
a picture with the captain of the Lynx of Saint Andrews.
Doesn't happen left. But like because of the size of Scotland,
like all these great courses over the course of the
last you know, look the last forty years been watching golf,
like like from Carnousti to to Saint Andrews to Troon,

(25:45):
Like you could get to all three of those courses
in like an hour and ten minutes. Like we went
through Carnousti to get to where Saint Andrews was and
then like, oh, Truon is right up here where they
have the they have the uh the Open Championship next week. Okay,
it's right there, all of these great courts that you
hear about. Oh my goodness, Royal Truon and Saint and
No No, they're all like within like twenty minutes of

(26:06):
each other. It's crazy. Scotland's a country, but it's kind
of the size of a small state. So okay, what
it is.

Speaker 4 (26:13):
You can get a nice jog in and get to
the next course.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
So we'll have our big baseball second half predictions coming
up in ninety seconds. But first special delivery Steve to
Segar who has the nickname of being the royal and
ancient one here at Fox Sports Radio. How's what strength?

Speaker 4 (26:31):
How about that.

Speaker 6 (26:33):
We are getting there on half of that. Let's let's
start with Shane Lauder Steve leading the Open Championship by
two strokes in. Scott Lennett, Royal troon Justin Rose tied
for second place.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
Thank you.

Speaker 6 (26:47):
Scottie Schaeffler tied for fourth five shots back. Justin Thomas
shot a second round seventy eight, falling to a tie
for thirty eighth place. Ricky Fowler barely made the cut
today at six over par. Bryson De'shambo missed the cut.
He was nine over Rory McElroy was eleven over par.
Tiger Woods was fourteen over par. He shot seventy seven
today after a seventy nine yesterday. The WNBA is off

(27:10):
for about a month. A three point Contest and skills
Challenge where tonight in Phoenix, Alicia Crave Atlanta one them both. Tomorrow,
the US Olympic women's basketball team has its sendoff game
against a team of WNBA stars. The Memphis Grizzlies traded
former first rounder Zire Williams to Brooklyn the NBA Summer
League continues in Vegas till Monday. Kevin Durant finally practiced

(27:32):
with Team USA on the men's side today. He'd been
out for a couple weeks with a stray calf. The
US men's Olympic team has two exhibitions now in London,
including Saturday on Fox TV three pm Eastern Time against
South Sudan. Monday afternoon on Fox it'll be the US
against Germany. Vikings first round quarterback JJ McCarthy signed his
rookie deal. Running back Kenyan Drake retired. Former Bear safety

(27:55):
Eddie Jackson signed with the Ravens. In Major League Baseball's
late game in LA, the Dodgers, Freddie Freeman hit a
grand slam bottom of the eighth to beat Boston for
to one. His slam came right after an intentional walk.
Jaron Duran of Boston, the All Star Game MVP this week,
had well responsibility for the only Boston scoring solo shot

(28:16):
in the fifth. The Red Sox offense with runners in
scoring position win Ozer for eleven. Dodger offense had only
four hit, but it included the late slam and they
get a win by the way. Veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw
of La at Triple A tonight, pitched four innings with
three runs allowed. Houston is now tied for first with
the Mariners in the Al West. Houston sent the Ms

(28:37):
to a fourth straight loss three nothing.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
Tonight.

Speaker 6 (28:40):
Oakland beat the Angels thirteen to three. Colorado hit a
couple late homers in fact four runs in the bottom
of the eighth, beat San Francisco seven to three. Kansas
City a seven to one winner over the White Sox,
who've lost five straight. Five straight wins now for Pittsburgh,
which beat Philadelphia eight seven with two runs in the
bottom of the ninth. The loss to Jose Alvarado, who's

(29:00):
one and four Baltimore was a nine to one winner
at Texas. The win to Corbyn Burns ten and four
in Anthony, San tender a two homers five RBIs the
Orioles first least still one game over the Yankees, who
were six to one winners over Tampa Bay. Garrett Cole
got the win six innings, eight strikeouts. Juan Soto of

(29:21):
the Yanks went four for four to three runs scored
Detroit a five to four winner at Toronto. Blue Jay
shortstop bo Buchett left with a string Calf the winner
for the Tigers. Jack Flaherty with eight strikeouts in five
and two thirds. Miami beat the Mets six ' four
despite two home runs from Jeff McNeil. Mets record forty
nine and forty seven. Cleveland was up one nothing in
the eighth and beat San Diego seven nothing. The Guardians

(29:44):
at home thirty one and eleven. Saint Louis at Atlanta
reigned out. They'll try to play a doubleheader tomorrow. There
is rain in the forecast. Washington was up eight to
one after eight and beat Cincinnati eight to five. Nationals
pitcher Josiah Gray is out for the year. He'll have
elbow surgery next week and in a day game at
Wrigley Field today, Arizona beat the Cubs five to two.
The loss to Justin Steele. He trailed five to nothing

(30:07):
in the fifth. The Brewers were off. They'll be at
Minnesota this weekend.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
Twins.

Speaker 6 (30:10):
We're off tonight and into the Baseball Hall of Fame
this Sunday. Adrian Beltrey, who got what ninety five percent
of the vote to get into the Hall, also going
in in this class. Todd Helton o the Rockies, Joe
Mauer of the Twins and manager Jim Leland. That's Sunday
in Cooper's down back to you.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
Thank you, Steve O. So looking ahead, we just heard
about you look the big Freddie Freeman home run tonight,
the Red Sox winning this game over the Dodgers won
nothing in the eighth inning. The Dodgers clearly needed to
start off like this. We talked about out. My concern
on them on a scale of one to ten is
ten because it's a World Series or bus sure, and

(30:50):
their starting pitching is abysmal, right, and I had a
good night tonight, but they have no starting pitching. They
got to ad starters, if not a lot of guys
available to deadline. Not that I'm worried about them make
in the playoffs, but you're talking about World Series. But
you want a team that's gonna be a surprise division winner,
and I'll give you the Red Sox. Right. Yankees and

(31:10):
Orioles have been trading blows all season long. We kind
of saw this last year where the Rays got out
to such a big lead, they were playing so well,
and the Orioles just sat a couple of games behind
them for the longest time, and it was man the
Orioles are really good, and they're able to just play
under the radar and watch what happens. And the Orioles
went and won the division. With the o's of the

(31:32):
Yankees fighting the way they are, they've been and had
all the attention. The Orioles, they have a few problems.
The Yankees have a few problems. The Red Sox are
starting to really put it together. The two guys at
top of their rotation. I believe out of thirty eight starts,
they have a combined thirty two or thirty three quality starts.

(31:54):
They have four good hitters in the lineup. They're starting
to string together some big wins, and they're going to
be able to play outside of the eye of the
storm because it's all Orioles Yankees Orioles Yankees. And as
the season goes on and we see the Yankees and
the Orioles try to figure out what holes to fill,
watch the Red Sox, watch the Red Sox figuring things out.

(32:17):
And when you have starting pitchers, when you can throw
a couple of guys out there right away, you know
they're going to give you quality starts. Look out, Red
Sox is going to be your surprise Division winner, they
take the Alias.

Speaker 4 (32:27):
Look at you, I'm going to the Central on I'm
gonna take those Kansas City Royals. No, not recently because
they're beating up on the White Sox, although that doesn't hurt.
Plenty more opportunities to do that.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
Did you just look at the schedule and find out
they have like fifteen guys.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
Well, I'm looking at it right now.

Speaker 4 (32:41):
That's say, well they got here's the upcoming schedule. Two
more against the White Sox, three against Arizona at home,
three against the Cubs at home, three more on the
road at the White Sox, then four at Detroit. Let's
go Royals. Bobby Junior is going to lead them to

(33:02):
the Promised Land. Eight games over five hundred and now
you look at that schedule. They eventually run into the
Red Sox and then home against the Red Sox and
then home against Saint Louis. They handled Saint Louis. Then
you get the Twins, then you get Cincinnati, then you
get the Angels for three. See what I'm doing here,
There's a lot of opportunity. Now, some tougher games down

(33:24):
the stretch of a couple of would be there's a
bunch of games against the Tigers still on the there
as well. So yeah, I'm looking at the Royals to
come up and surprise and shock the world to win
that division. Nobody will care because it's not the East
or whatever the Dodgers are doing. But either way it'll
be fun.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
Nonetheless, you're looking for a surprise playoff team now, surprize
division winner, surprise playoff team. I'll give you a team
that's five games under five hundred right now. That's making
the playoffs. No, dude, Cleveland's got the second best record
in base do they really they got no? Yes, they
have no problems right now. Many they got sluggers, they
got guys hitting three fifty. Cleveland has no problems.

Speaker 4 (34:03):
You know what that means, Jason?

Speaker 1 (34:04):
What does that mean? But making the playoffs? Are the
defending champion Rangers? All right? I know that it's hard
to look ahead and say, hey, guys coming back you
can count on. But you've had the injuries this year.
Surezer is here, de Gram is on his way back.

(34:28):
You're gonna see it. They're gonna start winning games as
the summer continues to unfold. These guys are gonna get
back in the swing. And you're only having to count
on them for two months getting there in so strategic
injuries for both of these guys. The Rangers will start
winning games. They're gonna get these aces back pitching the
way they have been. Give me the Rangers going to

(34:48):
the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (34:48):
I'm gonna go even bolder. How about those Pirates come
on now. They're there at the Wildcard as we sit
here right now, but everybody's expecting the big fade. I
say no, say the power of Livy Dunn and Paul
Skeins takes us to the promised Land. Is Skeen's gonna
pitch every day every day that night, Like that'd be

(35:09):
fantastics right every day.

Speaker 1 (35:11):
So there you go. Some surprise picks and bold predictions
for the second half of the baseball season coming up next.
You are not gonna believe where a professional championship game
was played tonight. That's next. Jason to Mike Fox.

Speaker 3 (35:26):
Was it Cleveland?

Speaker 1 (35:27):
Not Cleveland? Dang it? Not in Cleveland?

Speaker 4 (35:29):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (35:30):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (35:41):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon as long as you say on camera. Uh.
The thirty third Arena Bowl took place tonight.

Speaker 7 (35:57):
Let's go Championship crowning their champion, and it was Albany
and Billings like not being serious Montana, yes.

Speaker 1 (36:08):
All, but what is there another building? Unless you're unless TJ.
You need to call the Billings department of your credit
card to get it. So Billings and Alby and Billings wins, right,
So congratulations of Billings. Yep. Why are we talking about this?
Because the game was played at the American Dreams Shopping

(36:30):
Mall in New Jersey inside a mall. And I don't
mean like, oh no, no inside the mall to where
the bottom floor of the mall where the kiosks are
and the the the people selling the Crazy four twenty
T shirts and the and the and the guys with
the helicopters that fly around. Ye. No, they had to

(36:51):
move all of those out and put in an arena
football field and that's where they played the game. And
the video of it was just absolutely bizarre. You see
people that are hanging over the second level like you
can walk outside of norths from Rack and walk, they
walk ten feet and watch a football game. They put
a football field down. It was the Arena Elite Championship.

(37:14):
And there's people on the second third road, just like
leaning over going, Oh there's a football game. It was
absolutely bizarre to see this going on.

Speaker 4 (37:21):
Oh yeah, watching the videos of this, and you know,
may here they are going up the escalator to get
to the second standing there with bags of you know,
consumables and you know, the different clothing store. Like it's
just a weird, weird vibe. But I'm digging it, man,
I kind of dig that. It's like, hey, what's going

(37:43):
on down there?

Speaker 1 (37:43):
Hey, what do you know?

Speaker 4 (37:45):
It's a football game? I can't hear return you know
the time my grandmother sent me it's the Arena League championship.

Speaker 1 (37:52):
Wait, really, this is not like some kind of crazy
seven on seven high school game. No, no, man, this
is this is an actual game broadcast on a on
a at least a national or regional sports network. This
is this is this is what we got for you.

Speaker 4 (38:07):
Yeah, no, it's it's certainly a visual And now I
want to know how we can expand this? What other
what other sporting events can we play inside a mall?
I mean, how do we revitalize the malls? Right? Because
by me, I get these half assed circuses all the
time outside in the parking lots. That's like the most
traffic they get. Right, there's the AMC. It's adjacent to

(38:28):
a target, but that's not part of the mall. It's there.
And then you got a red robin. Then you got
a lot of empty space and what used to be
big time you know box you know, department stores or
whatever that are now either vacant or dying. And then
we have the circus comes to town and the carnies
roll up for a week, but otherwise it's empty. Maybe
this can revitalize things. Let's get more sporting events. What

(38:50):
can we do?

Speaker 1 (38:51):
Well? What I was expecting to see this? I'm like, okay,
so they're gonna call a play here, and then there's
gonna be some octogenarians in the in the big white
sneakers mall walking. They're gonna walk. They're just gonna walk
across the field. This is where we walk every day.
I'm sorry, but there's a football game. No, but this
is my path and someone becomes the lead blocker. This
cinnabon is right head over here, this is where we walk,

(39:12):
We're going this way. I mean I didn't, I couldn't
understand it. I'm I'm looking at the field going did
they just put like a like a really thin carpet
over the marble floor?

Speaker 4 (39:26):
Like you two can buy this football field carpet at
this storm for forty off today, So only like is.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
It padded or is it? Like really it was it
like right on the on the on top of the marble.
I got a cycle that really.

Speaker 4 (39:40):
I gotta say, back in the day Northwestern when they
did the revamp many many years ago, I had a
small roll of what they took off in terms of turf,
and it was so thin, Like no wonder, everybody's ripping
up their knees and walking off. When you'd see the
guys like hey, dining halls, it's like, wow, you're wearing

(40:00):
a very large bandage on your arms. Like, yeah, I
remember when I got tackled in the second quarter on
that punt return. That was the response. So yeah, you
got a little bit of that. I did like the
Yahoo story quote Billings Malls Almany Arina Bowl thirty three championship.

Speaker 1 (40:18):
Yeah, I've opened Tiffany who was on our show a
few years ago seging the national anthem because Tiffany got
famous by singing them all because she was here to
be the one, right, especially in New Jersey. Right, I
think that's where she's from, Like, oh yeah, I gotta
sing the I gotta either sing the national anthem or
she sings. I think we're alone now.

Speaker 4 (40:34):
I think we can get both one. Would you believe
that I have had Tiffany as a guest on multiple
shows on Fox.

Speaker 1 (40:44):
All right, there's a national anthem. Here's from my hit Outum.
I think we're alone now.

Speaker 4 (40:50):
I think that's where we need to start doing. We
start getting the heroes from the eighties on the show
with some regularity. Let's go eighties and nineties pop stars.
Line them up.

Speaker 1 (41:00):
What do you want to do today? Well, I want
to go to H and M because I gotta return
that shirt that I got. Okay, and I'm gonna walk
outside and watch the Arena League game for a bit.
Oh okay, that sounds like a fun plan for Friday.
We're gonna do this.

Speaker 4 (41:11):
Well, you know what, everybody, you just gotta let me live.
That's when my daughter yells at me all the time.
Let me live, old man.
