(00:48):
tire buying should be. And well, there's fun Friday. We've
got the WNBA having their Big Skills Night. Oh yes,
the lect game going on right now, the three Point
Challenge that Caitlin Clark decide to not be a part of.
We have WNBA at the Break. Mike Carman, if I
had told you three months ago the WNBA at the
All Star Break would be a top flight story, you'd

(01:10):
have told me I was crazy, But here we are.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Well, we saw the uh stawed brewing for a couple
of months of how big things are gonna be, and
the numbers have born and out. So here we get
and I'm watching the three on three competition as we speak.
Lots of people vexed over inclusion, exclusion in the the

(01:33):
pageantry of it all. I mean, it's kind of a
big deal here as we get ready for the second
half of the baseball season.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Now, if you want something, yeah, because we have big
stuff with Caitlin Clark. We got big stuff second half
of Major League Baseball. We got big stuff with Tiger
Woods who missed the cut at the Open chann Agus Run.
But this is Friday, right, So Friday Friday, you know,
got a different feel on a Friday right, different field.
I there's not many, boy, I'll tell you. For doing

(02:01):
sports as long as I have and long as you
would I have, we go to some sporting events live
that are great. You know, we do a lot of
you know, we cover the restroom, from the from the studio. Here.
There's not a lot of events where I go, oh
my god, I wish I could be there to see that. Obviously,
you wish you were at the Super Bowl or the
World Series something like that, but not always right, because
you know, you like being at home. You're like the

(02:22):
view you get from some place. I'm watching it on TV.
This is pretty fun. This. I got a good place here.
You know. Maybe I gotta go to the bathroom a
couple of times. Easy me to get up, go right
back in. I want to make a sandwich. However, this
Friday night, Billings beat Albany in the AFL Arena Bowl

(02:43):
Championship Game. Why are we talking about this? Wait a minute,
Arena Bowl Billings, Yes, Billings, Montana, Albany, New York. The
Albany Empire, Yes, the Empire right the Capitol, the Capitol.
Billings beat Albany in the Arena Bowl championship game. Okay,
why why this is a big deal? What? Because the
game was played inside the American Dream Mall in New Jersey,

(03:08):
named after Dusty Rhodes. And by that, and by that,
I mean it was actually inside the mall, like they
cleared out the ground level of the mall to put
in a football field, and people are standing around the
field watching where they are right outside of stores, like

(03:31):
you could walk outside of an H and M walk
about five or seven feet instead of being in the
middle of the concourse of an indoor mall, you are
watching a football game. Like seeing it all it's just
stunning to me. I mean it's this is a game.
And look for a guy who went to see his
hockey team played inside a mall, this is still a
little bit different. There's people up on the second rows

(03:52):
of the mall, like you could walk out of a
store and stand on the edge, put your hands on
the on the top of the glass and just watch
the ball. Thirty three. The game is actually inside the
mall where they made the field out of the mall.
I hope Tiffany sang the national anthem for this, because
she was big in malls, came up in malls in
the eighties. It's how shely got famous. Hopefully she sang

(04:13):
the national anthem before this game they played inside the mall.
And watching the highlights and watching people go through this
on you know, on on social media, I have I'm
seeing people walking down like they're walking out of a
store and they're walking out, Oh there's a football game
going on it.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
When I bought some stuff at Hot Topic, I got
the latest exclusive funk go uh and then I stopped
into Spenser's that's a bag you can't look into. And
now I got to cinemon as I stand here and
watch this kickoff return, Let's go.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
I mean, I know there was actually a controversy whether
or not the mall was going to host the game.
I think the the the commissioner of the Arena Football
League got fired a few weeks ago or so. There's
some kind of craziness going on with this. But you
are seeing out in a mall you were able to
watch a game. I mean really, it's it's unbelievable, and

(05:02):
it looks like a great mall, like I mean, I've
never been to the American Mall, in a great American mall,
American Dream Wall in New Jersey. Who never been there,
But it looks like a great mall and it looks
like something that Wow. All right, I know how you
end up playing there, You know how you end up
playing in them all?

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Hard times, hard times, Jason for the iron worker, for
the guy down at the docks.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
I'll tell you just this vision of the Arena Ball
where they say, you know, one day we're gonna play
our championship game in a place called the mall. No, yes,
dare to dream. We're gonna be at the mall playing
our championship game and people are gonna watch. We're gonna
get maybe one hundred people to want to watch this thing.
They're gonna they're gonna ring the sides of the field,

(05:48):
and we're gonna be on a local, potentially regional cable
channel in this CACBS Sports Network and people are gonna
watch us playing them all. It is going to be glorious.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Oh, it's a beautiful thing. Because think about it, if
you had some bets laid down and you're that close
to the action in the mall.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Double down. I'm not having a drink.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
No, I got a nice big orange Julius getting it done.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
I'm coming out of Jay Timothy's and I'm gonna walk
in here. Apparently they called the game the Brawl at
the Mall.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
See like it had a thing County Alive on Friday night,
live on paper.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Like I see this as I go, I really wanted
to see this because honestly, yes, I mean, this is
so embarrassing, but this was my team. Like the Whalers
before they moved to Carolina for the Hurricanes, they played
in the mall. They played in the Hartford Civic Center mall,
and it was you, but it wasn't It wasn't quite
like the visual of this. Like you walked in and
it was a big circle. Right, it was a big circle.

(06:45):
And you walked in and it was an indoor mall,
and it looked like an indoor mall. You like, you parked,
you walked inside, and all around the outside were stores, right,
there were no stores on the on the right side
was like a big oval almost like a almost like
like a like a Nascar track because you could only
go in. You didn't go into the middle because that's

(07:05):
where the hockey rink was. But all on the outside
were all these stores and it was Starter and H
and M and all these different things. But if you
just walked into the mall and you walked like fifteen feet,
that was where the arena was. So you walked into
the mall, whatever entrance you walked into, you can come in,

(07:26):
you could shop, or you could walk another twenty feet
and go into the entrance and you walk into the
ball and you go down and that's where the arena was.
So it was the ice was in the middle of
the mall and then outside, ringing around it was all
the stores. Now you couldn't tell from the outside what
it was. It was just all that's the Hertford Civic Center. No, no, no,

(07:46):
big mall, big mall. And then inside of it was
the arena.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
No I dig it, man, I think we need more
events like this. It's like we'd play on the aircraft
carriers and everything else. Let's do a mall tour.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
We need more events in the mall. We not. We
need more events in the mall.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
We might be able to revive the malls that are
dying left and right. You know, any malls you go into,
like the one down by me, the most money they
make is by having some half assed circus take over
the parking line, a bunch of carnies move in for
a week or two. That's how they're getting more traffic
and more people coming to those shops than anything else

(08:26):
they got going. That in a red robin. That's about
all they got going on that side of the mall.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
Yeah, I uh, you know, I I see this and
I'm thinking, okay, you know, great, because the mall's becoming
a place where people don't go that often anymore. Shopping
online everything else.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Except for the speed walkers in the morning as soon.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
As yeah, yeah, yeah, you know how much must that
really piss off people in the mall going, you know,
I gotta worry about my job, and we get we
get people coming in here where the doors open at
eight thirty, not to buy anything, but just to walk
with their squeaky white sneakers all the way around. We're
gonna go up top, we're gonna go down the bottom.
Maybe we're gonna get a coffee at the end, and

(09:01):
then we're gonna go. Like I mean, Alex, how about
you know you walk around, you walk into a store.
How about your speed walk through a store, the speed
walk through the clothes I have here, or speed walk
through the discount DVD rackling you speed walk your way
out and then come back around.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
Cough up a buck, you cheap. Well, you know, in
the end, it's like it's the malls have become like
a public park. Uh, go walk a couple of laps
instead of going down to the local track. Yeah that
is opening adjacent to the high school or in some
cases h a standalone facility. But yeah, it's uh, this
one's pretty exciting. I mean, people were complaining about the

(09:38):
dead time of July. Like if you thought it was
dead this year, you weren't trying. Oh no, no, this
is one where you just you know what, hang up
your head set, turn off the microphone, let the light
go dim, and just walk away.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
You got a game where we said, hey, we have
to take out the fountain everybody. That's everybody that's selling
the uh the the those kiosks, have to move the
kiosk with the helicopters. Something that's fun for five minutes.
Oh look at that helicopter. It floats around. Yeah, listen,
we can't be there for about a week or so.
Why we got the AFL Championship game. So where are
we gonna go. We're gonna move you to the third level,

(10:12):
so your kiosk is gonna be on the third level.
But that's where then we're gonna wheel them all back in.
So don't worry about that Orange. Julius will wheel it
back in. Baskin Robbins will wheel it back in. You
guys are gonna be all good. The T shirts in
the middle that you could buy, the four twenty T
shirts and everything other, Yeah, you'll be able to get
all of those at some point. But just for a
few days. You're not gonna have.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Wait, you're moving us to the third level. Does that
mean we get a discount on our lease for that month?
Hell no, You think about that football game. Think of
all the foot traffic that we're bringing.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
You know, when I'm I'm watching this and like the
third maybe not the second thought in my head, but
like the third thought of my head was, is this
gonna be like the season three of Stranger Things? And
suddenly that demo Gorgan's gonna show up at the ball
and just start killing people and ripping people apart, because
that's kind of what it looked like. I'm like, is
gonna show up? Because I'm thinking kind of dark Knight

(11:03):
Rises a little bit with the hinds Ward, and I'm thinking, Okay,
they're gonna play this game. The demo Gorgan's gonna show
up through the floor, start killing players, and then you know,
Dustin's gonna come in, and here comes Eleven and Steve,
Steve's the best, and they're all gonna come in and
try to save the world. We're you get on video,
it's gonna be.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Great to you know, just pull back the curtain. I mean,
we got some baseball and all the monitors, but one
of them still has Oh, Commissioner Gordon waving at me,
and I'll be seeing Baine in his mask any second.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Oh man. I'll tell you games and then.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
When you talk about you know, evil rising through the floor.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
So here we go, games in them all? Like figure
that game is in the mall.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
I like this, this is the way to revitalize mall culture.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Let's go. We don't have a field. What do we do.
I don't know. Cancel the game?

Speaker 2 (11:46):
No, you find it Unfortunately.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
I mean we're a couple of years past where we
could have gotten the Savannah Bananas to do this. Now
they sell out Fenway Park. I mean that ship is sailed.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
No, no, you need more room. You can't have them
play baseball in the bottom no.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
But I'm just saying, like, you know, we eat proof
of concept where we can get folks in for a
good show. Now we have to figure it out. I mean,
as me, maybe we bring pickleball to them all.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
No, it's gonna be big, dude. If you're playing the
AFL chack, come on, man, you just don't ask Billings
and all of you to show up and give them
some kind of you know, candy ass situation. That's what
I call a show. You give them a big thing here.
I wonder how hard the floor was, Like did they
just roll out the rug like right over the marble?

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Oh it was a dumb one.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Yeah. Was there any kind of padding it all? Man?
I felt mid this marble? Is this floor? As you know,
I'll have I fell on a piece of candy that
someone forgot to pick up. I fell sharply on that
piece of candy that hurts.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
The running back seems to be stuck on the ten
yard line.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
They're on the side of cotton candy was and it
said they're just drinking eating pixie sticks. Man, Yeah, it's good.
I feel pretty good. This is great.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
I went to that oddball candy by the pound story.
Yeah exactly.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
We saw a game in a mall. I mean, that's
a of all the things, right, of all of the
here we are. There's nothing more sports than twenty twenty
four than says, hey, here's a football the Arena football
championship game inside the mall.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
And you know what, you know, if I still lived
in the Albany area, that might have been one I
could have been had for I know it's in dutchy weekend.
We get into all that kind of fun stuff. But
I don't know a game like that in a mall.
Think I would have had to go, Hey, road.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
Trip, Where are we going? We're going to the Great
American Mall in New Jersey. Why are we driving like
three hundred miles to a mall. There's a football game
in it. Oh, I'm in. I don't care what I'm
in for this. I want to see this. I can't wait.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
Yes, and afterwards, I promise we'll go and we'll get
you a special ice cream.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
And congratch you. We don't need to go anywhere, we
can just I can get it while you're watching the game.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
It's okay, guys, I'll watch the game. You guys, go
walk the mall.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
I'm good. Exit out bout a Fresca, Exit Swollen Dome.

Welcome back Major League Baseball. Nah. One of the second
half of the end of the MLB season.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
And my team's right back where they started. Buddy, Let's go.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
Yeah. I was all excited. All the Mets have the Marlins,
We're gonna win three out of four. Subtly no, no, no, no,
lose the opening game to the Marlins. That's great, they'll
get you it. Hey, I'm at least on the board now. No,
that's good. Congratulations, buddy. I thought that were good for
five minutes. You know, feel good for five minutes, buddy,
that's it.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
I'm trying, buddy. I mean in five minutes out of time.
That's how we get through life, right, waking up, and
then we go from there.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Yes, yeah, yeah, Never think too far in advance, right,
never make too many plans, but five minutes. Got to
think a little bit into the future, of course, so
do that, of course. But we will have big bag.
We'll have big bold predictions for the second half of
the season coming up in a little bit. But right now,
it's the big All Star weekend for the WNBA before
they take a big break for a month. Everybody gets rest,

(16:07):
not named and not named any players playing on the
US Olympic team. So we have the game tomorrow and
right now we have the three point shooting contest going on.
It's been the big skills night. You watch a three
on three. Couple of big things to take away as
we look at it, tomorrow. First of all, it's it's
how cool is it that the WNBA All Star Weekend

(16:27):
is a big deal? Sure? Like, I mean that is.
I can't tell you how cool that is. And not
that we told you was gonna happen when Caitlyn Clark
showed up and she was going to have a Magic
and Larry effect on the game. But hey, this is
exactly what happened. And here we are, you know, the
Skills Night on ESPN. We have the All Star Game tomorrow. Now,
right now, let's do the three point content before we

(16:48):
get to the All Star Game. Caitlyn Clark is not
in the three point contest. She's there for all the
pageantry of the game, and I think Angel Rees will
be there at some point. She wants to go to
other games instead, But Kate in Vegas, it's okay, Yeah, no,
it's okay. I mean really, because why did she say, Oh,
I'm not I bet the league that pays me, Like,
what what are you talking about? You're watching a Summer

(17:10):
League game in Vegas? What what are you talking about? Really?
What are you doing?

Speaker 3 (17:14):
W NBA subsidies of the WNBA.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
Yeah, I mean, angel Re says things sometimes and I
just got whatever, man, whatever, whatever you need to continue
to be relevant, whatever, you go ahead and do it.
But Kitlen Clark's not doing the three point contest. I
know there's a lot of criticism for it. But while
look would be great if she did it, sure, but
I completely get why she's not doing it. She was
asked about it today and she said, you know, it's

(17:40):
been a long time. I'm kind of tired. To kind
of just take balls off a rack and make shots
is very difficult. And I'm going, Wow, what a load
of crap this is because that dad is Apple. I
can't take balls off a rack and shoot, really can't
do that. You've been tired, You're playing in a game tomorrow,
you're gonna have a month off. You're tired. She's not shoot,
she's not been the three point contest. I guarantee you
for two reasons. Number one is that there's no win

(18:04):
for her in the three It's why NBA Superstars don't
do the slam Dunk Contest. It's why Lebron doesn't do
the Slam Dunk Contest. It's why the big stars don't
because you would expect the big stars to win, and
if they don't win. It's embarrassing. Look at Lebron loses
a slam dunk contest to a guy to Mac mcclunk
who's played like eight minutes in the last three years

(18:25):
of the NBA. That's so embarrassing. There's no real win
for star players to do things like this, only in
as expected or more likely a loss. And if she's
not hot, she loses, and suddenly, oh, hey, Caitlyn Clark
lost to somebody nobody ever heard. I was in the
three point contest, So I get that. That's the first part,
is that there's really no win. But if she was

(18:47):
shooting better, if she was more confident from three point range,
she would be in the contest, because that's the one
thing that I could say of the first half that
I would say, Caitlin Clark, but forget about the turnover.
She's leading the WNBA in his so you'll deal with
the turnovers if you lead the league and assists. But
she's not shooting great from three point right. Right, she's
about thirty two percent, which is about six or seven

(19:10):
percent below normally, she's about thirty eight percent for her
career in college, she's thirty two percent from three point range.
She's not hitting these shots. If she was more confident,
if she thought she could have a good showing, she
would have done this. But I'm sure she's worried that. Boy,
I haven't at threes all year. I don't know what's
gonna happen. If I show up and if I shoot

(19:30):
terribly and I make seven out of thirty, what's that
gonna be. It's gonna be a headline because what I
do is a headline, even though it's just a crazy
three point contest. There's no win for her, and if
she was shooting better, she would do it. But because
if she was shooting her normal thing, she was five
out of twelve from three point range, okay, great, But
instead she's usually two or three out of twelve, so

(19:52):
she's not been that kind of the one thing she
hasn't been her hallmark has been hitting shots in the
logo and hitting from deep and having a Steph Curry
type game. Okay, she has been able to change and
evolve in such a fast way to become the best
guard in the w NBA. But overall, I can see
why she didn't do it. It's about no win and she's

(20:12):
not shooting well. That's why she's not doing a three
point shooting contest.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
Yeah, I mean the latter part is one that needs
to be triple underscore. And I've seen all her comments
and the interviews she did talking about needing a little
bit of time and obviously you'll play tomorrow in the
All Star Game. But when you get down to it,
it's the you do, get the mental break, get back
into the gym, you get your workouts in while the

(20:37):
Olympics go on, pay you know, attention to what's going on,
et cetera. But yeah, it's it's the first break that
she gets to have, and there is no win because
if she goes and shoots miserably, you know, it's we've
just watched how divisive this whole thing has been, you
know where folks who are trying to find everything to
nitpick at the games. I mean, take every player at

(21:00):
that's on the highlight reels at this point, there's the
opportunity to show the low light reel alongside them whenever
you can. Sabrina, I'd ask you she didn't. She decided
not to follow up because she won the three point
shootout last year and just said, look, I'm getting ready
for the Olympics. I don't have I want to focus
all the things there, so maybe again I don't want

(21:23):
to lose the title, you know, playing it out say,
same kind of mentality for you there, Jason. But watching
the game by game log for Kate and Clark, Yeah,
there have been some big shots, but shooting what three
twenty seven I think it is from three point range,
So you know, a lot of one for seven, two
for ninees mixed therein with the occasional big games. So

(21:46):
at this point it's it's really one of those. All right,
just get yourself set for the second half because there's
a lot of money riding on her having a big
finish to this season and getting the Fever into the playoffs.
That's where the focus is. So whatever Nicety she wants
to say about it, just say I needed a day off,
leave me alone.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
Yeah, look, I'm enjoying the pageantry, but if she was
shooting better, it's a different thing. But again, superstars don't
do stuff like this, right, That's just how it is,
and she's a superstar right like it used to it.
Oh why doesn't lebron Guys don't do that? They they
just don't do it. Hey, We're lucky when people like
Steph Curry want to do it, or Steph Curry wants
to have a three point shooting contest with Sabrina I Andes.

(22:28):
You like, we're lucky that he has that kind of
ego where he is okay doing that, He is okay
putting himself out there potentially to lose. There's not many
superstars that have that kind of ego like Steph Curry,
which is the perfect ego to have. And look, Katelyn
Clark's got a big ego, you know, she does a
lot of the players. Do you've seen that? But I mean, look,

(22:48):
he's more much more the outlier than he is the rule.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
No, absolutely, but he's also a guy that I mean,
this is not going to diminish what I've done, right,
And you have to be comfortable in your for that. Hell,
i mean, look how comfortable he was bringing Kevin Durant in.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
Now.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
I'm sure he's still salty as hell that those finals
MVPs went to Durant for his brief time there with
the Warriors. But you take the rings and you move on,
but your legacy is secure. Clark's still trying to build
her hers. I'd ask you the same thing. You know,
still on the rise as it were, and in terms
of the attention because she comes out of the COVID

(23:26):
era and everything. So still trying to get the eyeballs
and make sure that you follow the line and don't
have something that maybe lets the poison pens come out
in big form, and that's particularly true for Caitlin Clark.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
Now you want to know something that's going to be great, okay,
because I don't think I don't think the average fan
understands because when you hear All Star Week and it's like, oh, okay,
the pageantry is great. Maybe I'll catch some skills and
I mean any All Star game. Maybe I'll catch some
of the skills competition. Maybe I'll see if Joe Burrow
can throw a football into a barrel from eighty yards away.

(24:05):
Like maybe I'll watch, maybe I won't. Are you gonna
watch the NBA All Star Game? Maybe I watch, maybe
I won't. But I'm gonna give you this big Bowl prediction.
I don't even know how bold it's gonna be. The
WNBA All Star Game will be the most competitive All
Star game any of us have seen in twenty years,
because both sides have a lot to prove. Okay, you

(24:27):
have this controversy that was built in with not taking
Caitlin Clark for the Olympic team and the format being
the Olympic team that's getting ready to head to France
against the WNBA All Stars right now. So automatically you
have a bit of a hey, I'm not good enough
to be on the on the Olympic team. I want
to show everybody how good I am. Okay, that's built in.

(24:49):
Then you have the Olympic team going, hey, we don't
want to embarrass ourselves. We can't lose to the All Stars, right,
So you have a little bit of that built in.
But now you amp it up with the fact that
how the hell is Caitlyn Clark not on this team
after what she's had because you've pushed her out, you
decided to exclude her. So you know how motivated Caitlin
Clark is. You know how motivated Angel Reese is. You

(25:12):
know how motivated a Rique a Gunbawally is. She's gonna
take a thousand shots tomorrow. She pulled her name out
of consideration because of the politics which went along with hey,
this is how the Olympic team is picked. Which tells you, hey,
maybe there is a bit about keeping Caitlyn Clark off
the team. So you know how motivated that the All
Stars are going to be to win this game, specifically

(25:32):
those three players who are gonna take all the shots
and handle the ball. Okay, he said, there be a
lot of volume shots like Caitlin Clark in a Gunbiwally
may shoot like a combined like ten for eighty from
the field, but they will take all the shots.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
Hey, gunbwa is gonna get a lot of open looks
off Clark's passes. Sure, she's just not hiss. Make sure
that well and don't let that hit you in the face. Yeah,
exact all comes with some heat.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
But the Olympics team now they know, hey, there's a
lot of pressure on us because we exclude Caitlin Clark.
And the image of us is that, hey, we wanted
this is our team, right, This is this is the
women that we like that we go to war with.
This is who we like. We hand picked this team
because it's who we like, who we get along with.
So this is what we're ready for. They can't lose,

(26:16):
they can't they can't be taken to the extreme by
the WNBA All Star, specifically Caitlyn Clark, who they kept
off the team. Right, all you had to do is
see the quotes from Cheryl Reeve and what she's done
on social media the last couple of months, and you
know she had no desire to put Caitlin Clark on
the team. Is that an individual thing? Is that something
where she talked to some of the players who didn't
want to take her. Probably a combination of both. And

(26:40):
when you when you realize that every Olympics of the
past twenty years, the Olympic team has taken the number
one overall picking the draft, taking them to the Olympics
so they could get part of the experience going on
and understand, hey, this is what it is. You're one
of the next great stars of the league, and this
is this is We're gonna let you get your feet
wet with international competition, not highest level. They have taken

(27:01):
somebody everything, including Diana Tarassi going all the way back,
but now they don't take Caitlin Clark this year, so
you know that they know, Okay, we had a bulls
eye on us. We have to come out with a huge,
huge effort in this game. So you're gonna see the
most competitive game because both sides have that we want
to win. We don't get competition any other games. Even

(27:22):
when there was home field advantage time for Major League
Baseball All Star Game, that was still met with a
bit of an eye roll. But you are gonna see
both teams want to absolutely destroy each other. And I'll
tell you this what I'd love to be able to say.
The WNBA All Stars are gonna win. There's no way
I can't see the Olympic team pulling away and winning

(27:42):
this game. You have the best outside of Caitlin Clark.
You have the best twelve players in the game, right
and everybody seems to be healthy, and you're gonna get
with all. You're gonna have players with a lot of minutes.
The team is picked to win, to win a championship.
It's not that, hey, we have so many play No,
you have what you have. You have the depth you
want in the back court, the depth you want in
the front court. As competitive as this is gonna be,

(28:04):
I would be stunned if the Olympic team lost this game.
And it would be great. And as you like to say,
I love chaos, and I love the chaos for this,
but I really would be stunned if the Olympic team
doesn't wind up pulling away and winning this game eventually
by fifteen or twenty point.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
Yeah, don't forget the other thing swirling in the background.
You talk about Reeve and everything else. Remember in Caitlin
Clark and that crowd when they went in and beat
reeves Minnesota squad. You know earlier this week, what a
crazy or was that last week? Already it all blends
together anymore, but you had the capacity crowd. She's dribbling

(28:39):
it out in a big win and doing the mean
mug directly in Reeve's directions. So you know you've got that.
That is a recent little added torch to all of
this fun and excise. I was trying to find the
betting odds. Wilson is favored to be the MVP, So
that's good. Let's see Team USA is only five and

(29:00):
a half. How about that if they if that is
five and a half.

Speaker 1 (29:05):
That would be embarrassing. You're talking about. This is like
if you took the NBA Olympic team. Right, Let's say,
get everybody from the Olympic team and then you put
them up against the rest of the NBA the All Stars, right,
I mean, obviously, look, Jalen Brunson would score forty five,
they'd probably win. But if you put the Olympic team
up against the best the All Stars at the NBA,
the Olympic team would eventually pull away and win huge,

(29:27):
right like that. That's just that's just how it would be.
You know, they they'd be able to pull away, they'd
be able to win by a big margin. And and
I don't I don't see that being outside. I don't
see how you can take arguably the top twelve ish players,
or maybe you take twelve of the top twenty players overall,
and you wind up losing a game because of it.
I just don't see how that happened. Chaos theory.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
Hey, if they win, do they get to take that
and they actually go to France instead? Oh that would
be great, right before you throw it down and with
the mic ww style.

Speaker 1 (30:00):
Oh sure if we win here, staying home.

Speaker 3 (30:07):
Slam the microphone, stay home your homes.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
You you're home red, you're out of a job, and
all of you give back your new shoe contracts that
you got in the last couple of months. Give them all.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
See this got this just got far more interesting, all right,
Wilson five five point fifty plus five fifty to be
your MVP. I and ask you at plus seven fifty,
Breonna Stewart or Stewie as they say, at ten to one,
Copper at ten to one, uh Lloyd at eleven to one,
and then Caitlin Clark coming in at twelve to one

(30:45):
to win the game's MVP.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
But I like that.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
Yeah, you don't get to go represent if you lose tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
Yeah, buddy, I like that. I like that, Come on
it if you will. The other thing I like is
special delivery. Steve de Sager, who's a legend the sides
of Mets Marlins game tonight. He has the rest of
what's trending in a wide or so.

Speaker 5 (31:04):
You're saying on this hoops idea for tomorrow, it's not
loser leaves town. It's the winner gets to leave town.
That's right in Paris, okay, cause stays home. WNBA is
off for about a month. Tomorrow's when the US Olympic
Women's basketball team has its sendoff game against a team
of WNBA stars the Three Point Contest and Skills Challenge,

(31:25):
where tonight they're over and Alicia Cray of Atlanta won
them both. The NBA Summer League continues in Las Vegas.
Nicks were in action and winning ninety one to ninety
over Detroit Ladies and Gentlemen. Rookie guard Tyler Kohlik with
okay eight points and seven assists, but it's a w
and on to victory for the New York Now Yeah.

(31:46):
Marcus Asser for Detroit had twenty four points. First rounder
Ronald Holland twenty points for the Pistons. That league's games
started last Friday. It goes until Monday, the twenty second,
with all thirty NBA teams, each club playing at least
five games there. In Vegas, the Memphis Grizzlies traded former
first rounder is Zaire Williams to Brooklyn, creating salary cap flexibility.

(32:06):
Kevin Durant finally practiced with Team usa'd been out for
about two weeks with a stray calf. The US men's
Olympic team has two exhibitions in London, including Saturday on
Fox TV three pm Eastern Time against South Sudan and
Monday afternoon on Fox it'll be the US against Germany.
The American's Olympic Tournament starts a week from Sunday against Serbia.

(32:28):
Shane Lowry leads the Open Championship in Scotland by two strokes.
At Royal Troon, Justin Rose is tied for second place.
Bryson de Shambo missed the cut. He was nine over
Rory McElroy was eleven over par. Tiger Woods was fourteen
over Vikings first round quarterback JJ McCarthy signed as rookie
deal running back Kenyan Drake retired. Former Bear safety Eddie

(32:50):
Jackson signed with the Ravens. Kansas City has sent the
White Sox to a fifth straight loss. Seven to won
the final. White Sox now twenty seven and seventy two,
and it has just gone final. The Orioles have won
nine to one at Texas. It was Cleveland's seven nothing
over the Padres. It was one nothing lead in the eighth.
Miami did beat the Mets six ' four, although Jeff

(33:11):
McNeil had two home runs. Mets record forty nine and
forty seven Detroit and Washington with wins. Arizona as well.
The Yankees and Garrett Cole beat Tampa Bay six to one.
Juan Soto went four for four tonight with three runs
scored and Pittsburgh won its fifth game in a row
eight seven over Philadelphia with two runs in the bottom
of the ninth. The Phillies had entered first in the

(33:32):
NL East eight and a half games over the Braves.
The Atlanta home game against Saint Louis was raigined out
long rain delay at the start over two hours. That
game never started. They'll try to play a doubleheader tomorrow,
but there's a chance to rang for the next week
or so in Atlanta.

Speaker 1 (33:46):
Let's be honest.

Speaker 5 (33:47):
Angels tied at Oakland two to two in the bottom
of the fourth, Dodgers in Red Sox scoreless in the third,
Astros at Mariners, scoreless, bottom of the second.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve Though The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Carmon live from the ti Raq dot
Com Studios. We'll have more in the WNBA coming up
a bit, because boy, it just gets more and more embarrassing.
Caitlin Clarkson on the Olympic team. More time goes on,
but straight ahead, are we close to the end of
one of the greatest athletes we have ever seen? That's

(34:19):
next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (34:22):

Speaker 1 (34:34):
Yes, it's Friday. The Jason Smith Show is Mike Carmon
Live from the Tirack dot com studios. We'll get to
some big, bold predictions for the second half of the
Major League Baseball season coming up in a few minutes. But, uh,
you probably woke up earlier today. Maybe you watched late

(34:54):
last night, maybe you watched the middle of the night.
It saw that Tiger Woods has he missed the cut
at the Open Championship. In truth thirteen over, he has
missed the cut now and in all in the last
three majors. It has not been a I say, a
banner year. It's not been a year for Tiger where

(35:17):
I can even say he feels confident going forward with
how much longer he's gonna play. Because I'll tell you this,
right after today and seeing him and seeing him talking,
Tiger says the same thing. I didn't play very well today.
It hit enough greens and had a bad day with
the putter. I'm not gonna play again until December. Wait what, No,
not gonna play again until December. There's no sport you

(35:39):
can play where the less you play, the better you
are doesn't happen, right, especially when you're forty eight years
old like Tiger Woods is. And he's not gonna play
now till December. Okay, So now he's played all the majors,
he hasn't done well. August, September, October, November. He's gonna
play two events in four months, right, in four months,

(36:00):
he's going to play in two events. Enjoy Tiger now
because he's not gonna be one of those guys who
just plays all the way until you have to pull
the club out of his hands. The best ones never do.
He's still in a little bit now of Hey, I
feel like if I could just get it going, I
could play and I can win. I'm not gonna play

(36:21):
unless I think I could win. But he's gonna be
getting to the end of that belief sometime soon because
he can't. He doesn't have the game anymore. He can't
do it, doesn't play enough. I don't know that he
has the stamina for four rounds playing heavy golf.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
Well, but that's what we've been talking the cut. Yeah,
but we've been talking about that for a couple of years.
Right of you might get a good Thursday, maybe you
get half a Friday. By Saturday, he's toast.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
I would say this, and this is what if you
were betting, I'd say, what's Tiger Wood's good career? At rest?
Career gonna look like he's gonna play next year, and
then decide that he's going to retire. He'll play next year,
Realize I don't have the game. The young players are
too good. It's not the same. The live golf a
PGA tour thing is somewhat solved. Everybody is sort of

(37:06):
back together. He's not didn't want to be the captain
of the Ryder Cup team and he's going to retire.
He's not gonna go out there and embarrass himself. He's
done enough of a comeback. He wants to make sure, Hey,
I am doing this as much as I can, because look,
this is what you should do when you think you're
done playing I always subscribe to Phil Simms, who always said, listen,
if you think you're done playing football, play another two years.

(37:28):
When you think you're done after that, play one more
year because life after football, not play. I mean, that's
a long time to not play football anymore. It's a
long time for Tiger Woods to not play golf again.
So he is going through I am exhausting every avenue
I have that can I play well? Can I make it?
And I'm gonna do it. But he's near the end
and maybe next year, maybe he comes to that decision earlier.

(37:52):
But if he's still playing playing competitive golf after twenty
twenty five, I'll be surprised. Like I think, next year
is be it for him. Maybe we'll have one more
I'll tee it up at Augusta, or maybe he has
a farewell tour where he plays all four majors and
he decides, hey, next year is gonna be it. I'm
gonna play Augusta one more time. I'm gonna play here
one more time, and that's going to be it, And

(38:14):
it's gonna be him feeded with all the pageantry you
want to give a guy that grew golf like nobody
else in the history of the sport. But if he's
still doing competitive golf after twenty twenty five, I'm gonna
be surprised. He's gonna be forty nine to fifty, and
that's gonna be when he says I just can't do
it anymore. I'm not gonna embarrass myself and shoot thirteen
fourteen over par and I'm gonna retire. He is so

(38:35):
near the end that it's probably next year is the
last time to expect to see him.

Speaker 3 (38:40):
Hey, if you think Mick Jagger will be out there
trying to be a rock star at age fifty, you
are sadly.

Speaker 1 (38:47):
Stake mistake when you say that line. You actually have
to do the move, like Jimmy Fallon doesn't almost fames.
You gotta put your hands up, in your hands down.
You gotta do that. That's it.

Speaker 3 (38:55):
But it's the same thing here, right, It's the old
tear the jersey off someone's back, all of those things
until you're you want to be done, and golfs one
of those things because he still moves the needle.

Speaker 1 (39:07):
Right.

Speaker 3 (39:07):
The coverage on television, the coverage on websites and blogs
and social media still more about Tiger Woods than the
people that are competing. Not saying that's great, but I'm
saying that's reality. And it keeps the money machine going
whenever he does participate, which is just a handful of
events a year anymore. So keep him going, I think

(39:31):
he just keeps hustling because I don't think he knows
how to shut that mechanism off.

Speaker 1 (39:36):
Smith. No, and once in a while, will we see
him with Charlie, like out at some kind of fun
event or with a I'm not saying we're never gonna
see him with a golf club in his hand anymore,
but we're not gonna see him out there saying hey,
I'm teeing it up because I think I can go
with he's waiting for Charlie baby nah na na. We'll
still he'll still be around the game. I'm not saying
he's gonna be a hermit. But if he's still playing

(39:56):
competitively after next year, I'll be stunned. I think what
is copetitively competitive? That means playing playing, not what I said, Hey,
we got a big story out of baseball next fox
