Speaker 1 (00:30):
Greetings, Welcome inside. What a happy Wednesday it is.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Look at you, Captain positivity.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
live from the tirag dot Com studios tirect dot com.

Speaker 4 (00:44):
I hope you get there.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Direct dot Com is
the way tire buying should be. Well, you know, it's
unfortunate the show had to begin now. I was just
I was just about to close a deal. I was
buying a dozen brooms wholesale to send to all of

(01:08):
my Yankee friends. A dozen blue and orange brooms to
send all of my friends. Hey, let's commemorate yet another
Subway series season sweet for the Mets. It's not over,
but the Mets lead the Yankees right now, twelve to
two in the eighth inning, and oh boy, maybe this
could wind up being the Subway Series where the Mets

(01:29):
get people fired, kind of like how Michigan retired Saban
transferred guys all kinds like this may be the series going, Okay,
we're gonna force guys to lose jobs. Aaron Boone's gonna
get fired, Brian Catherine's gonna get fired. This may be
it losing to the Mets like this, because hey, yes,
it's just a couple of games here in July. But

(01:50):
when it's against the Mets and it's cross town and
you get swept and your best pitcher in nine innings
against the Mets this year have given up seven home runs.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
Is it real just a couple of games in July?
It is not, my friend, it is.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
We also had one of the the first time I
think I've ever seen an ESPN replay watching this game
after Garrett Cole had been yanked, that they went and
they said, here was Garrett Cole after that inning, and
he's punching, you know, the the top of the dugout
and it's just F bomb after F bob. I'm like, really,

(02:25):
this is where we're at in the ESPN program Not
there he.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Is dejected on the bench.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
There he is, you know, just kinda holding his head
in his hands, or he's taking his hat off, like he's,
you know, respectfully walking into a place of worship or something. No,
there he is F this, F that, F the other. Like,
all right, there's the programming for tonight. But we also
had the final forty pitches of Manaya's outing that were

(02:52):
counted down like it was the final seconds before the
kickoff of a soccer match.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
Oh sure, how everybody does it? Ah thirty? Yeah, here
we go.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
It's like, all right enough, yes he's laboring in the
fifth inning here, just let him go. But yeah, a
veritable Congo line on the base path, home runs all
over the place. And on Twitter, we had the great
line that came out, You're going to be insufferable tonight, right.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
And what did I quote tweet with the Carmelo Anthony
nodding his head, Jeff my favorite jiff of all time?

Speaker 4 (03:26):
Yes, yes, yes, I mean, look.

Speaker 5 (03:27):
You got a couple of homers from Lindor he's up
to twenty one. Well, Alonzo, now, all of a sudden,
four games over five hundred, Dude, you're legitimately in a
all right.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
What are we buying to?

Speaker 5 (03:39):
David Sturt's being in the you know, fetal position going
please call a take by players.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
Executive of the year, David executive.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Not pushing too early.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
I mean, the Braves are scuffling a little bit right now.
Although you did kill the the the Red Sox, they
gave up twenty to the Rockies. So as much as
you can celebrate what you did for your Mets, I
tell you right now, people in Boston hate you more
than they do they do, but the Mets are beating
the Yankees, so you can't hit me that much.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
I mean, come on, look, there's two big things coming
off this game. There's one Mets and there's one Yankees.
Is that Yes. A lot of baseball, obviously, over the
course of one hundred and sixty two games, is catching
teams at the right time, catching teams at the wrong time.
You catch a team when they're scuffling, things start to mushroom.
You catch a team when they're hot. And that's another thing.
Like Lindor is on an unbelievable heater. Now right, since

(04:36):
the middle of May, he's been one of the top
five players in baseball. But yet it's another year of
a really slow start for Francisco Lindor So while the
statu are just starting to look at but for the
last two months, he's one of the top five players
in all of base I think he has the third
best war of anybody in baseball over the course of
the last two months. Like he is on an unbelievable heater.
So yeah, you catch people, you catch teams at the

(04:57):
wrong time. The Mets are hot. But I really thought
gets into the Yankees. The Mets had just swept the
Yankees in New York or at City Field a couple
of weeks ago, and you had Louis Severino, former Yankee,
say over the weekend, Hey, Yankees only have a couple
of good hitters.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
WHOA what the hell are you doing?

Speaker 3 (05:16):
Man?

Speaker 1 (05:16):
You have the Subway Series coming up in a couple
of days, you're not pitching, and you've decided to start
a war with the Yankees. And I thought, well, we're
gonna lose both of these games. The Yankees are gonna
come out like fire. This is gonna be something that
ignites them, because this is it. That's an igniting statement.
That's one of those Hey, thank you for that bulletin
board material, because we've been scuffling and now suddenly we'll

(05:37):
focus getting a better frame of mind. And I thought
this is just gonna be it, right, And then you
talk about Monday, where the Yankees played a day game
and they had the night off game. The first game
with the Mets was Tuesday night. The Mets didn't get
in from off their plane until six o'clock in the
morning on Monday because they had trouble on the plane
getting so they need six o'clock Monday. And the Mets

(05:58):
are going in here and they're gonna swing the Yankees,
and they're gonna knock the crap out of Garrett Cole,
and they're gonna win this and they're gonna get people fired.
And this is what hits me with the Yankees. I
can't believe this team was the best team in baseball
for all. I can't believe there's sixteen games over five hundred.
This is a team that even if they had their
couple of healthy guys like okay, let's say Anthony Rizzo
was healthy. Was Anthony Rizzo really that big of a

(06:19):
difference maker? Gen Carlos Stanton is never healthy? Like I
can't believe the team was actually this good at one point,
Like it stuns me. I see them, I go they
really do. Maybe Severarino was right and he turns out
to be a prophet because they only do have two
good hitters in Soto and Judge. And when you can
walk Aaron Judge every time, like the Mids have done
the last couple of nights, you're gonna wind up being okay.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
I mean this is this is such a stunning fall
for the Yankees, and I mean it.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
They need big time changes at the deadline, Like this
is a team that knows they're gonna be in the playoffs,
right they're still for all their faults, there's still sixteen
games over five hundred, so they're getting into the playoffs.
But nobody needs to make a move more than the Yankees.
And it's several moves. It's position players, it's pitching. They
need to say, Okay, we're good, but boy are we flawed.
Let's go out and buy be the Yankees of the

(07:07):
past and go bye bye bye, because right now, this
is a team that's dead from the neck up. Man,
you had everything going your way coming into this series.
You you came off an easy game on Monday, the
Mets get into six o'clock in the morning, Severarino gives
you bulletin board material and you just get pasted two
games in a row. And I'm sending brooms out to
my dad where I can get his address in Syracuse

(07:27):
where he's on vacation right now.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Oh that's beautiful.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
Hey, you have a box down here at the front
desk and it's just a bunch of brooms, but you've
left instructions for the hotel to really set it up
very elaborate way.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Oh no, I wouldn't want to do that. He's staying
with a friend. I would get it delivered like by
parcel post what.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
I mean though, But then you know, you give instructions
to the place, you know, to go do a setup outside,
you know, like that that extra stuff that you know
you pay a little extra for the delivery, kind of
like when you send flowers and then you want someone
to sing a song or something, right, the singing the
old singing telegram from when we were kids. But it's
just amazing to watch We talked about it a bit

(08:06):
yesterday as you were, you know, jumping around the studio
excited about that and the Mets win last night. Is
you look at that lineup, le Mayhew forgot out a
hit and it's really been the Soto and Judge show.
And you know, for the last six to eight weeks,
pitching wise, Rodin and Heel have been fine, right, And
you know you've got two guys at ten wins, Garrett Cole.

(08:29):
You're really hoping for a big stopper kind of moment tonight,
and it looked like he was gonna be okay, and
then it unraveled pretty fast, right, and all of a sudden,
you know, you've got three people left in the crowd.
Is this thing's coming to you an end? Three Mets
fans just screaming at the top of their lungs. But
it's it's a flawed roster. You brought back Aaron Boone

(08:52):
cash Man. I you know, we don't do a lot
of calling for jobs, but it's been wondering a long time.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
It's like, what are your expectations? Right?

Speaker 5 (09:01):
You know for the Yankees, it's different. It's not just
a hey, we can win ninety games, and get to
the playoff. No, you gotta win a bleeping World series
every now and again. It's what we talk about with
the Dodgers a lot.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
Here in LA. Winning the division is great and being
there is great. I'd kill to.

Speaker 5 (09:16):
Have ten years of success where I can say I'm
going to the playoffs unless something really bad happens.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
And for a while I was delusional.

Speaker 5 (09:24):
I was young, I was stupid, and I would say,
hope brings the turn. And then I realized, you know what,
You're a moron.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
Stop that.

Speaker 5 (09:32):
And now I'm a realist, like, hey, if you're gonna fail,
fail spectacularly.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
You know.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Look tonight, this is y.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
You know, it's funny because this kind of I think
about this, that's been thinking about this the last couple
of days, and because this plays into believe me, how
I'm gonna get to the Yankees at the deadline?

Speaker 4 (09:49):
Here is that obviously.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Look, the biggest story in the world has been President
Joe Biden announcing he's not going to a run for reelection.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
He gave his big speech tonight why he's stepping down.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
He was pushed out, likely by Democrats and want different
candidate Kamala Harris is most likely going to be the nominee,
and a lot of it is, well, why make this change?
Is she performing better against Trump? Is this going to
be something that works? And I just keep thinking about
baseball and the trade deadline in managers is that in
a baseball season, if you're playing and you think and

(10:18):
you have a pretty good team, right, it's the same philosophy.
What happened in politics is what's going on and right
now is that you have a pretty good team right,
but you're really underperforming. Okay, And after a while of underperforming,
what happens you got to make a change. And what's
the big change? It's always trading players to bring in
a new type of culture because you got to get

(10:39):
people's attention that because if things aren't gonna get better,
we're gonna make changes or you fire the manager. Now,
nobody knows if these changes are going to be better,
just like they don't know, Hey, is Kamala Harris going
to be someone that can be Trump? Is Trump could
still have the advantage? Nobody knows. But I think everybody
knew that, Okay, President Biden wasn't going to win, so
we had to make a change. I don't know if

(11:00):
the change is gonna work, you know, Democrats saying I
don't know, but I know that wasn't gonna work. So
we had to try something. And that's the thing with
the Yankees right now is that I know what's going
on right now is not working, and they are talented
and they are underachieving and they need major changes.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
Is it gonna work? I don't know. Maybe they're still
gonna wind up.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Being as bad a team or they're gonna kind of
fall off, but I know what's going on right now
doesn't work. And is it gonna be something like Aaron Boone? Maybe,
but more than likely this should be the Yankee saying,
you know what, we need three or four new guys.
We need a new energy into this team. Kind of
like what the Braves did at the deadline a few
years ago, where when they won the World Series, they

(11:38):
won it without Ronald Lacunya when he got hurt and
the Braves were kind of meandering around five hundred, the
Mets were in first place in the division, and the deadline,
the Braves went out and got four new players, right
They got Jock Peterson, they got a buy and all
of a sudden, oh you brought in for they changed
the energy, and that sparked them on a big three
month run and they won the World Series. That's what
the Yankees need. The Yankees have talent, but for whatever reason,

(11:59):
this is just not working and and certain losses are
bigger than others. And getting swept by the Mets in
four games over a two and a half week period,
that's gonna do it. Like the Yankees, go out and
get three or four new starters. You can't keep carrying
DJ Lemayhew and a bunch of other guys. We're waiting
for guys to come back. Go out, be bold, bring

(12:19):
guys in because the team is still talented. You had
to have something going right to be the best team
in baseball the first month and have to still be
sixteen games over five hundred. It's huge changes that the
Yankees need. It's not just one guy to You need
a culture change. You need something else because outside of
Soto and Judge and en Volpi, who has come along, well,

(12:40):
there's nobody else. You could say, oh boy, I'm excited
about these guys.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
This is the New York beleeping Yankees.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
Man.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
You go threw a million dollar payroll and you get.
These are the kind of efforts you get. I mean,
you are when you are energy wise, when you are
dead from the neck up, like they've been the last
couple of nights after they should have been freshly energized
from the day game on Monday, and and pissed off
off after Sevarino says they got two good hitters and
he's been in that locker room for the last few years.

(13:04):
How is this the effort you get? It's wholesale changes
for the yikes coming up.

Speaker 5 (13:09):
What I cannot wait for. And I rarely will say
this is a post game regular season press conference after
the shellacking and ask kissing and kicking, because now you
really have to go and bag Juan Soto because it
becomes an ass kissing uh segment because Cohen's sitting there.

(13:31):
How much money do I have? Yeah, Hey, Soto look
really good with our Mets. Don't you want to come, Harry,
We're the team that wins. Don't you want to come
with us? Just saying that that is spinning in the
background of all of the failures and problems they're having
right now, is that guy needs a contract?

Speaker 1 (13:52):
Telling you man, this is wholesale chang It's like when
when when NHL teams hey, it teems a whole sale.
Chance like the all five players coming off the ice,
yank you five guys leave five, Let's go. That's what
the Yankees name and no team is more desperate than
the Yankees at the deadline. The Jason smithser with Mike
Carmen live from the Tirak dot com studios, going to

(14:14):
the bottom of the ninth Metsley the Yankees twelve to two.
Coming up next, we have a football story that is cringeworthy,
hilarious and makes me think one high profile team might
not win a game this year. That's coming up next

Speaker 4 (15:19):
To seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
We never have enough time to get to everything we
want to get to.

Speaker 6 (15:24):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy will be over promising things we never
have time for. Yeah, you blober list Jam and me.
Well you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years. Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show,

(15:45):
and we want you to be a part of it.
We're gonna be talking sports, of course, but we're also
going to talk life and relationships, and if Rich and
I are arguing about something or we didn't have enough time,
it will continue on our after show called over Promised. Well,
if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make sure
you check out over promise and also uncensored by the way,
so maybe we'll go at it even a little harder.
It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.

(16:07):
There you go, over promising. Remember you could see it
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen to over Promised
with Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts
or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
Oh, this is gonna be a song.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Everybody's singing back on the seven line after this game.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
Oh oh oh oh, we sweat the Yankees this year
and we're going to the World Series.

Speaker 5 (16:32):
Not you, Well, there'll be more fights after the game,
like those two women getting after it earlier today.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Dude, No, I thought you were talking about the brawls
that happened at the stadium after the Mets Yankees game
last night.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
You'll wound up.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
Getting on social media today every every Yankee guy fighting,
it's wearing a Judge jersey. You know, everybody's wearing a
Judge jersey.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
And I love that that people wear the jerseys with
Judges name on them, Like, why would you even get
one of those?

Speaker 3 (17:02):
What'd you get it?

Speaker 1 (17:03):
It's not a real jersey, it's not even official replicatory.
Why why why that's not a jersey? Why why spots?

Speaker 5 (17:11):
Why all the folks buying the when you buy a
red Yankees hat, does that make any sense? No?

Speaker 3 (17:17):
No, but you like the aesthetics, so you did.

Speaker 7 (17:19):
No.

Speaker 4 (17:21):
They don't put names on the back.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
That's why they have to worry about stuff like what's
going on with all the fanatics jerseys and Nika.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
We don't put names on the back. You have to
worry about it. Look a bit.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
They got a lot of problems right now.

Speaker 5 (17:31):
He's trying to sell a billion dollars of stock because
some stagnant growth. They got the big event coming up,
like there's there's a lot going on, baseball card, the
National Trading UH Association, the UH Sports Collectors Convention going
on in Cleveland, and ty Shirt's not here to sell
great Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
So that's okay.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
So we had that big football story coming your way
in a couple months, but just really quick, tonight's the
MLS All Star Game, right and obviously today's been a
big day in soccer, mainly been following what's going on
in the Olympics, with games getting postponed, fans running on
the field, coaches getting sent home because drones were illegally
taping practices like it's.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
Jail man, jail, it's us things.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Yeah, well, look, France is probably gonna win the gold medal.
I mean it's I mean after today, after arfter Tina
losing today, France is probably gonna win the gold medal.

Speaker 5 (18:21):
That first half, buddy, that first half. Come on, yeah
us us, oh.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Yeah, no, yeah, no, you're right. But tonight's MLS All
Star Game. And because we've had so much attention on
All Star games obviously look at the WNBA, we told
he's gonna be the best All Star game in the
last twenty years because of how competitive was going to be,
because both sides wanted to kill the other. Right now, MLS,
the MLS All Stars are losing to La Liga. For one,
this is the second time they've played La Liga. They've

(18:47):
played Arsenal and All Star games before. And you know what,
I'm at the point now and I think MLS is
at the point where let's let's let's grow the game
here with us. We have enough star our players to
have East versus West.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
We have enough. We could do that now.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
When Ricky Puig was one of the best young cash
tag quig your friend when Ricky Pueg, one of the
best young players in MLS, is coming off the bench. Uh,
you know what, Yeah, I think there's enough talent out
there that we could have our own All Star Game
and have the have the Eastern Conference play the Western Conference.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
We can do that.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
I mean, I get that it's kind of fun in
the beginning. Hey, that we needed arsenal in LA League,
got to push. But MLS has become a really big deal.
It's become the fourth major sport in the country, and
we can we can get to something like that now,
or we can have any or at least some kind
of at least some kind of iteration where it's all
MLS players, Like I don't know that this is something

(19:40):
that really cuts through. I mean, look, LA lege is
you're you're talking about the you know, the Primerood vision,
you know, and and and and one of the best
teams you can put out there. But and that's great,
and I don't need to see us lose five or
six to one. But I think more than hey, we
we can kind of do our own thing here. Okay,
we needed you guys for a while, and that's great.
We'll still have like this, We'll still play like that.

(20:01):
Look right now, Rexham is playing Chelsea in a friendly
right now, so you can see that the mixture of
ay here's teams from different divisions, different levels of soccer
playing against other teams, you know, from outside of their division,
from outside of their countries.

Speaker 4 (20:15):
Whatever it's going to be. We can do that now.
So I think it's time we can do that for
the MLS All Star Game.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
We can.

Speaker 4 (20:20):
We can have our own All Star Game and have
it be East versus West. That can work.

Speaker 5 (20:24):
I just think in the end, you're trying to grow
your league, right and I get a lot of moneies
get merged and you're trying to figure out larger audience
and help whatever. But for the MLS, even if you
don't have that many guys to push, guess what, it's
a showcase game whereby you can showcase more guys and
make them those guys.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
You know you.

Speaker 5 (20:46):
Like we do in all other sports, you create a
couple of metrics to make someone look better than they
are according to traditional stats. Everything else. It's the And
I love the friendlies and look, I've become an obsessive
watch of all this stuff, watching all the Olympics soccer
earlier today you want to talk about maddening situations and

(21:07):
confusing situations, and some of the quickest, var confusing VR
decisions you will ever see in your life. You had
them on Day one of the Olympics. But for a
situation like this, it's the all right, let's showcase our
sport and the.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
Players of our league.

Speaker 5 (21:25):
However, we have to configure it because we've seen all
sorts of Kakamami configurations through the years. Right, all right,
these guys against the world, these guys if you were born.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
South of the Mason Dixon line, I.

Speaker 5 (21:38):
Mean, whatever the case may be, you just go after it.
And for the MLS, you know it's it's a bit
of a missed opportunity because you know you're you're playing
to losses with some frequency. It so as like our
all stars aren't as good as they're all stars. Isn't
the point to showcase your game and have someone walk

(21:59):
out a winner on top that looks like the great
of your league.

Speaker 4 (22:04):
It just makes sense.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
I get that it maybe wasn't time before, And honestly,
do you really want the optic out there?

Speaker 4 (22:11):
Of Hey, no matter what high level comes in here,
they're gonna beat us five, one, six, nine.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
Oh, that's it.

Speaker 1 (22:16):
Let us continue to grow the gay and now you
can do it.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
There's enough players that people want to see. Everybody is.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Attendance is great, Television ratings are great for the m
We could do that. Now, we could have our own
All Star game. I think the time has come there.

Speaker 3 (22:30):
You go start championing.

Speaker 4 (22:31):
That's me. That's me.

Speaker 5 (22:33):
Figure out if you can get it, get a bigger
television deal though, that's your job.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
Wait'll we tell you what happened today at Big ten
Media Day in college football. The Jason Smith jo with
Mike Carmen live from Thetirack dot Com studios. Today was
Big ten Media Days, beginning of Big ten Media Days.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
Let's go Cats, come on.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
Yeah, unfortunately your cats don't make this story, or fortunately
your Cats don't make this story.

Speaker 3 (23:02):
Very very very good preseason.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
The head coaches had their news conferences today at Big
empty Stadium. All kinds of fun stuff and Deshaun Foster,
who is the head coach of UCLA. Yes, that's same
Deshaun Foster. I know you know to to borrow from
Deshaun Foster today, I maybe you don't know Deshaun Foster
is the head coach of the UCLA Bruins, and well,
now everybody knows after what happened today, So he goes

(23:28):
to the podium to begin his press conference. He's gonna
make an opening statement and then take questions from everybody
about the Bruins, their program, their first year in the
Big Ten, all of this stuff. Uh, we're gonna play,
fortunately for you, unfortunately for him, we're gonna play the
Deshaun Foster opening statement.

Speaker 4 (23:47):
And when just to.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
Give you a clue here, when you don't hear any talking,
it doesn't mean we've stopped the tape. It means Deshaun
Foster is still standing there frozen, not knowing what to say.

Speaker 8 (24:02):
We're a school that's won what one hundred and twenty
three championships, so this fits us being right in this conference.

Speaker 9 (24:10):
Football wise, which is excited.

Speaker 8 (24:13):
You know, I'm sure you guys don't know too much
about UCLA but our football program. But we're in LA,
it's us in usc.

Speaker 9 (24:30):
We I'm just basically excited. Really, that's it.

Speaker 1 (24:44):
Oh boy, oh yeah, yeah, I'm gonna write down UCLA
for one and eleven this year.

Speaker 5 (24:53):
Well, look, there's football guy and there's boy talker guy,
and then there's somewhere in between.

Speaker 1 (24:59):
No, come on, man, you're a head coach. You can
talk about your program for a minute. You can talk
about how you're in I don't know. I could not
know anything about you. I could walk up there and
talk about UCLA football for a minute better than he could.

Speaker 4 (25:13):
Now, you gotta trust your head coach can talk about
the team. Can you talk for a minute?

Speaker 5 (25:17):
Yes, tell me university here, pick three guys names out
of a hat that you want to highlight.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
I get it.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
I mean what about tell us just have a guy
quit though.

Speaker 5 (25:26):
Yeah, but one of their their head PR guys and
he quit on.

Speaker 4 (25:29):
The well, I must have been the best PR guy
in the world if he quit. And this is what
we get out of de Seaun Foster.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
Oh that's the game.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
So we got from Foster was Hey, we're in Los
Angeles and so is USC. I'll be right there. I
didn't know that. I let me write that. I did
not know that.

Speaker 3 (25:43):
You know, who else is this guy? Heylken? Get up here.
You know you're a better talker, Get out in here.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
It almost sounded like and look, this is just me
from performing and talking for a living, like like I've
done for the last twenty years. This is almost me
thinking that, Okay, I get the whole. Hey, in college
for football, you only really know about your conference, and
maybe you don't know anything about other about other conferences.
And maybe he thought he was gonna get a laugh

(26:08):
when he said, oh, you don't know about us, but
we're in LA, and he thought he was gonna get
a lot of laughs, And just like a comic, when
you don't get laughs, crickets Thatch comedian just kind of
freezes up and says, oh, so, uh, hey, how many
people are from out of town?

Speaker 3 (26:21):
From out of town?

Speaker 4 (26:21):
Every the audience from out of town?

Speaker 5 (26:23):
Anybody in the back search clicking the light immediately already out.

Speaker 1 (26:27):
Hey, who here is from Brooklyn? Who's anybody from Brooklyn?
Who's from Brooklyn? Anybody from Brooklyn? Anybody anybody like cause
he says, we're in LA and it's just nothing. I mean,
not like you're gonna get a knee slapper from everybody,
but wow, man, I mean he all he could say,
I'm gonna go up there say from Los Angeles, and
and USC is from Los Angeles too, So he mentioned

(26:48):
USC as many times as he mentioned UCLA in his
opening forty five seconds. Seriously, one in eleven, Ucla is
going one and eleven. Man, I'm not feeling good about them.
In fact, I'm looking at Vegas right now. They've taken
the odds off the board. They haven't, but they but
you wouldn't be surprised if they really did.

Speaker 7 (27:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (27:04):
I was really one of the crazy things to go
viral this morning between all the soccer chaos with the
Argentina match against Morocco and stoppages or whatever it was
Deshaun Foster and every type of meme you could have
about someone failing at a microphone, whether from a sitcom
or actual political or sports transgressions of the past.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
So I was entertained for a while. I was like, Oh,
I forgot about that guy.

Speaker 5 (27:32):
Good for him, you know, so refamiliarizing myself with mayors
of other cities and stuff. But yeah, for Deshaun Foster,
I just hope he commands a locker room better.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
Uh, he certainly did.

Speaker 5 (27:45):
They just pull his name out of the proverbial hat
for the for the job of Hey, let's get a
former grade in here when we change.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
That's UCLA's thing. They always want a former or someone
who just played there. That's what they want.

Speaker 5 (27:57):
But this time did it? You know, you didn't even
have to go in and wow them with tails of
yester year.

Speaker 3 (28:03):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (28:04):
I mean, what would is halftime speech be to the team?
All right, guys, gather around. All right, we're down. It's
seventeen to six. All right, now here in the second half,
we're gonna make some changes. We're gonna, uh gonna make
sure that we're gonna score more points then we allow

(28:30):
you don't score.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Until you score.

Speaker 1 (28:34):
We're gonna tackle them as soon as we can not
wait for them to uh get down field and.

Speaker 4 (28:49):
Make better plays than we did in the first half.

Speaker 5 (28:57):
Well, let me ask this, is this an opportunity for
UCLA to create I don't know if they have an
official airline, but if you ever wanted one, now's the
time to go to Southwest Because remember the old want
to get away as oh.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
Yeah, yeah, there you go, yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, Hey,
that would be a great one. Want to get away
just and then it could keep going back to him
and he's still not saying anyither.

Speaker 5 (29:17):
Know we're in Los Angeles, Hey, come see the Hollywood
Walk of Fame. Go to Universal Studios, go see Disneyland. Hey,
come to our many beaches.

Speaker 4 (29:25):
How happy is Lincoln Riley?

Speaker 3 (29:27):
Hey?

Speaker 4 (29:27):
We got a shout out in the opening statement of
the set, Scott.

Speaker 5 (29:31):
He is already seeded to city to us, so we
haven't played a snap this year.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
Let's go.

Speaker 4 (29:39):
That's the best.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
I mean this as I said, Oh my god, I
mean you have to be a leader of men.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
What the hell happened to you?

Speaker 3 (29:46):
Man?

Speaker 4 (29:46):
What happened to you?

Speaker 3 (29:47):
Well?

Speaker 5 (29:48):
If you go from what used to call itself the
Conference of Champions into the wonderful world of an expanded
Big ten, I get it. You know, please to meet you,

The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon. Yes, sir,
we got a big basketball story come on your way
in about ten minutes. But uh, we're gonna have a
brand new game. We are going to play at least
once a week during the football season. Really, and I
know it because this coach is going to give a

(31:40):
press conference at least once a week. Today, LA Chargers
head coach Jim Harbaugh gave us this pearl of wisdom
as training camp opens for the Chargers from Michigan.

Speaker 4 (31:52):
Here he is back in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
How excited is Jim Harbaugh to be back in the
league coaching the Chargers.

Speaker 4 (31:58):
He is this excited the.

Speaker 10 (32:00):
Way it feels. I mean, it feels like New Year's Day.
You know, it feels like being born. Feels like coming
out of the womb. You know, it's like you're in
there and it's comfortable and it's safe and and now
you're out.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
You're born.

Speaker 10 (32:13):
The lights are on, you know, it's bright, chaos, people
look people looking at you, people people talking at you,
and just feels good to.

Speaker 9 (32:23):
You know, have it happen.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
Okay, So what's day on a training cap? Like it's
like being born? Right right out, You're rid of the
after birth. We'll cut the cord everything else.

Speaker 5 (32:32):
Yeh had me at the New Year thing once you
did the like your Homer explaining how the miracle of conception.
You know he's doing a little swim move in the
whole day. I mean that that's horrorball here, way to go, coach.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
So here's our new game. And again we're gonna play
this once a week and this is gonna be awesome.
The name of the game is pretty simple. It's did
Jim Harbaugh say this today? That's the game?

Speaker 4 (32:58):
So ready to play?

Speaker 3 (32:59):
Yack?

Speaker 1 (32:59):
And he sat and this is a game that is
made up justin Frostburg has all the answers. So playing,
are you and me? Potentially? Brian Fenley Frostburg, you ready
to go?

Speaker 3 (33:08):
Oh?

Speaker 11 (33:08):
Fenley can't play. He hates the Chargers.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
Oh that's right, he is ineligible to play this. I'm sorry, Fenlely, Sorry,
I'm sorry.

Speaker 7 (33:14):
Man.

Speaker 4 (33:14):
Yeah, run, sorry, man, you're out ready. He really looks upset.
I'm from San Diego. I love the Chargers. You're only
saying that to get in the game. I mean, I'm
not lying. I am for San Diego.

Speaker 7 (33:27):
No, I know you.

Speaker 4 (33:28):
I'm only saying that to get in the game. It's
up to you. It's up up to you. Frostburg. Ready
to go.

Speaker 11 (33:36):
But the clickety clack clickety clack.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
Wait, say that again, Say it again?

Speaker 11 (33:43):
The clickity clock clickety clack.

Speaker 5 (33:47):
That's too close to your clippity clop clippity clop look
at my hoops.

Speaker 4 (33:52):
No, I don't know, man, I kind of like that.
That's kind of very boom Howard, King of the Hill,
he told he says, click click click click click click
click going here.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
No, I'm gonna say Jim Harbaugh did say the click
clickingty click today.

Speaker 4 (34:04):
I'm gonna say, yes.

Speaker 11 (34:05):
Well, then you are absolutely correct.

Speaker 4 (34:07):
He did say that. What was he talking about that?

Speaker 5 (34:13):
He said that it doesn't not no, you're right, hey,
you guys are just gonna write where you're at right
click and putting everybody on notice.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
I'm sure this is gonna wind up being my favorite
game just because it's like, you know, he's gonna say
stuff like this, and it's still gonna surprise me. Like
I feel bad that I'm gonna have to stay away
from all the Jim Harbaugh quotes following games on Sunday.
So we can play this game with integrity, but boy,
it's worth it.

Speaker 5 (34:38):
But this is the best of it is that you know,
with Justin being part of the Chargers team, he's gonna
hear it all.

Speaker 4 (34:44):
Yeah, that's true, that's true.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
Un till Harball puts him up against the wall and says,
stop playing this game.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
All right, what's next? Did Jim Harbaugh say this today?

Speaker 11 (34:53):
Like a carpenter, use the hammer a little bit better.

Speaker 4 (34:57):
You know the saw?

Speaker 1 (35:02):
Sure, like a carpenter, use the hammer a little bit better,
a little bit better. Know the saw, you know the saw.
So he goes completely away from the hammer like a
carpenter saw. Right, okay, And he goes to the carpenter saw.
So he starts with the hammer. So he's going through
the whole toolbox. But use the hammer better, and then
use the saw like he's handy many.

Speaker 4 (35:24):
All of a sudden, the tall I sleep done. I
loved Handyman.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
What a great show. And they were alive for that.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
Oh no, my daughter was well, of course it was
alive for my daughter. Loved handy Man. He watched a
lot of handyman thing. Uh you know what I'm gonna say, Yes,
I'm gonna say he said that today.

Speaker 11 (35:42):
Oh sure he did say that today.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
How many other tools did he use?

Speaker 5 (35:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (35:48):
Out of his box there?

Speaker 4 (35:50):
Uh Frost, are you ever gonna have to make one up?
I don't know that you're.

Speaker 5 (35:53):
Ever gonna have to make a These are all true,
They're all yes.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
Every week.

Speaker 11 (35:58):
All right, one more, let's go all right, two guys
going up for a ball that's four legs coming down.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
This is the best game ever.

Speaker 1 (36:14):
Okay, two guys going up for a ball that's four
legs coming down. Oh, I'm gonna well, you know what,
why I can't I'm gonna say yes.

Speaker 3 (36:24):
I'm gonna say I'm gonna say yes.

Speaker 5 (36:27):
I'm gonna try to predict context to those I'm gonna
guess this was about trying to defend Quentin Johnston.

Speaker 4 (36:34):
Shut up, Mike.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
Okay, he did say that today.

Speaker 4 (36:43):
We got time for one more, but so on more
and I want to go undefeated.

Speaker 11 (36:47):
Go ahead, We're in the glide time.

Speaker 4 (36:50):
We're in the glide time. Whoa, whoa, whoa whoa.

Speaker 3 (36:53):
Glos escalated.

Speaker 4 (36:55):
But after all this being born, are we really in
the glide time?

Speaker 3 (36:58):
He went straight to ecstasy and reproduce.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
I think this is a curveball and this is not.
He did not say that today. I'm gonna say no.

Speaker 3 (37:05):
I'm gonna say yes.

Speaker 4 (37:06):
Okay, well, Harmon, you are right.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
How could you be born to be excited, to be
out and scared but you're in glade time?

Speaker 4 (37:16):
That doesn't make sense.

Speaker 11 (37:17):
You watch your mouth.

Speaker 5 (37:20):
I can't beat both I'm a little nervous, but I'm
still excited about what's to come.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
We gotta play this game again later on. Did Jim
Harbaugh say this today? But coming up next a huge
story out of the NBA over I'm.

Speaker 4 (37:31):
Going to McDonald's.

Speaker 1 (37:33):
To McDonald's, have got a big mac and cookies, and
it was so much fun.

Speaker 11 (37:37):
Did you jump in the ball pit?

Speaker 4 (37:38):
No, there's no, dude, they don't do ballpits anymore. Man.

Speaker 1 (37:40):
I think ballpits went out with COVID. I don't know
that the people do ballpits.

Speaker 11 (37:43):
What do you do there?

Speaker 4 (37:44):
I eat the food?

Speaker 3 (37:47):
Do you sit on my phone? You're at the world
and judge people that come in?

Speaker 1 (37:51):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (37:52):
No.

Speaker 1 (37:52):
I kind of go with a weird time, like it's
like almost you know, it's like after six, so the
business is not quite it was.

Speaker 4 (38:00):
So it's not a lot of people in McDonald's when
I go.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
It's kind of good cause I get room to spread
out and everything and kind of hang out and the
kind of do my own things.

Speaker 4 (38:07):
So I'm pretty happy with it.

Speaker 5 (38:08):
It's just such a much different experience though, like hardly
anybody sits there.

Speaker 3 (38:13):
Maybe you know, in my neighborhood.

Speaker 5 (38:15):
You go there if you decide to stop in and
get yourself a cup of coffee. You got a couple
of old friends talking about, you know, the good old days.
Always a coffee clutch there and then maybe a hobo
or two. But beyond the head, a lot of the
only activity has really come in right right after school
because it's right across from the high school.

Speaker 3 (38:34):
So for that for that half hour, man, it is hopping.

Speaker 1 (38:39):
And yes we will have the big day that went
on all throughout the country, in the world in soccer.
As I'm watching Rob mcalaney get interviewed right now on
ESPN Wrexham playing a friendly against Chelsea and they're showing
Rob Mcalaney every five seconds. Rexam is losing one nothing.
So we do have these big soccer stories coming.

Speaker 5 (38:58):
Because it was a really panantic band, all the banners
up last week.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
Come see it, Come see it.

Speaker 1 (39:04):
But today was a big watershed day in the NBA
as the rights issue potentially has been settled where we're
going to see the NBA for the next few years.
Now you know the background of the story coming in.
This is going to be the last year for the
NBA on TNT as potentially other partners are going to

(39:26):
swoop in and steal the broadcasting package away. TNT's been
home with the NBA for almost thirty years. It was
a big, big watershed moment and potentially the rights we're
going to go to Amazon. NBC and Amazon we're gonna
get ESPN's at the number one package.

Speaker 4 (39:41):
TNT was going to get the B package, and that's
kind of how it's been.

Speaker 1 (39:44):
However, with NBC jumping in and now Amazon jumping in,
they bid for the rights, it looked like that's what
was going to happen, and then TNT, at the last
minute we saw this the other day, came in and
matched the Amazon bid. Okay, so what happens now, Well, uh,
the NBA has said thanks to TNT, appreciate it, but
they're going with the Amazon bid. They say the bid

(40:07):
did not really match what Amazon's bid was. The TNT
said this, that's incorrect. Uh, we match the bid. There
will be litigation going forward. So now things seem a
little up in the air and a little weird where well,
Amazon says they didn't match, the NBA says they didn't
match the Amazon bid. TNT says, we matched the bid.

(40:30):
We're going to court on this, so now it's gonna
be weird. But look, no matter what I'll tell you
how this is gonna end. This is gonna end with
the NBA going to Amazon, right, TNT is not gonna
have it anymore. Why because first of all, you can
tell this is the way the world is going, right,
the NBA and any sport is concerned about the future
more than the past. And TNT has been a great

(40:52):
partner for thirty years. But not everything stays forever just
because it's been going on for twenty five thirty years, right,
it did. Hey, it's gonna go. No, no, it's not
going to Actually now we thought, hey, j C. Pennies
is going to be open forever. No, no, Jace Pennies
maybe not. Blockbuster Video is gonna be her No, no,
not gonna happen. The future is streaming.

Speaker 4 (41:11):
We know this.

Speaker 1 (41:11):
We've told you for a long time. Eventually all the
big packages are going to be on streaming. Right, That's
how it's gonna go. And I love how some dude
on some cable show today made headline saying, hey, eventually,
at some point, are all the sport's gonna go to
streaming services? Dude, We've been telling you that for a
year now, streaming is gonna have everything. At some point
in the next decade, that's the way things are going.

(41:32):
The NBA has seen our future is with partners like
Amazon that have all kinds of money to spend. I
guarantee you right now, Amazon is saying, man, now it's
going to get a little ugly, little weird. We should
have been you know, another billion dollars. We could have
been another you know, whatever it is. We should have
been a little bit more because we have it. Because
Amazon is far richer than TNT. TNT who said in

(41:55):
the beginning of this process, we don't need the NBA
to be successful. Rub nickels together to get to the
to get to the point where they could match this
bid by Amazon. The NBA is looking at this going, okay,
they were a great partner, but they're really struggling to
match what we have. And they actually said they didn't
need the NBA, which was a horrible pr misstep. And

(42:17):
here's a here's a corporation that wants it, that wants
everything we have. We know Amazon's part of the future.
You know, Amazon streaming isn't going anywhere. Certain streaming giants
are gonna be in business for a long long time.
Netflix and Amazon are the two I can tell you
aren't going anywhere. So yeah, of course they're gonna choose
to go with the future. Now, however crazy this is
gets litigated with TNT versus, it doesn't matter. The NBA

(42:41):
wants Amazon. That's where it's gonna go after this year,
and TNT is gonna lose. I don't know what the
the the fallout is going to be from this, but
this will be the last year of the NBA on
TNT because the NBA wants to go to Amazon.

Speaker 4 (42:55):
They want what's new, they want the future. They're gonna
go there.

Speaker 1 (42:58):
There's need, even though there's TNT is threatening all kinds
of stuff. Legally, after this year, Amazon's the winner because
that's the future.

Speaker 5 (43:06):
Yeah, I mean, it really just comes down to how
many hundreds of millions of dollars does Warner Brothers Discovery
get to go away? It's the play, you know. When
Rich sat in for you on Monday, we talked about
it because that was the day that Warner Brothers Discovery.
I feel weird because I just WBD doesn't sound sound great.

(43:28):
Nobody knows what the hell that is but you see
that get shortened in articles when they refer to it
the second time. But you know, when they did their matching,
it's like, okay, let's let's fight it out. Talk about
subscriber numbers worldwide reach and with Amazon you've got at
least double the number of subscribers when.

Speaker 3 (43:47):
You go to Prime.

Speaker 5 (43:48):
Now, how many of those are you know, grocery store
things and pharmacies and you know, food supplies that you're
ordering batteries for your electric toothbrush versus watching any other
streaming content. Doesn't matter, it's still the move. Now, what
does that mean for the global packages? And if someone

(44:08):
you know has Amazon Prime in the UK, do they
have to pass a different fee? Well, they'll figure out
tiering and all of that stuff. But with cable subscribers joining,
I look what MLB network did today, right, they announced
a standalone operating as of today for MLB Network and
at BAT six ninety nine a month, same thing, right,

(44:29):
It's like, all right, you may not be paying seventy bucks,
one hundred bucks or whatever for cable like you used to,
but you can come on in piecemeal and get what
you want. You're an MLB fan and you want this
content seven dollars a month, come get it, and those
continue to grow for Warner Brothers Discovery. Yeah, bad optic,
bad negotiating play. We don't need you. That's not as
dumb as it gets, and I'm glad that. Look, Charles

(44:51):
Barkley is in a lame duck season. You want to
talk about make sure his microphone gets shut shut off,
or maybe you don't. Maybe just say, hey, let's get
the best ratings we possibly can for the final year.
And even when we go to break, leave his microphone
on because we have no idea what the hell's coming
next as he's in that space. But it's it's just

(45:12):
the inevitability and forward looking statements when CEOs go and
they do their quarterly analysts calls or big presentations, like
we see all.

Speaker 3 (45:23):
Right, yeah, yea, yeah, we've got a new iPhone.

Speaker 5 (45:25):
We're not talking about what happened and what went wrong
with version thirteen or twelve or no, no, no, forward,
here's why you need this new one, and here's where
we're going to continue to grow and where we find
new markets and whatever else. You get a little bit
about the past that in the past, because that informs
that month's that quarters numbers. But it's all about forward looking.

(45:46):
Why the NBA package was worth eleven years and seventy
six billion dollars because the rating sure as hell don't
tell you that it should be worth eleven years, seventy
six billion dollars. But when you're a global business and
you're extrapolating and looking forward to all the new innovations
and technologies that are going to allow people to consume

(46:07):
your product and the different inroads for advertisers and sponsors,
then yes, you come up with this other as much
as we say fuzzy math number and here it just
doesn't make sense to stay with Warner Bros.

Speaker 3 (46:20):
Discovery.

Speaker 5 (46:21):
Here they can go take the hundreds of millions that
they'll get and they'll go figure out what Aquaman three
is supposed to be about.

Speaker 1 (46:27):
Hey, Akaman, why don't we do this. Let's go back
and put Adrian Gregner in it. I know he's retired
from Hollywood, but let's put him in it because he
was Aquaman and Entourage. Let's get James Cameron to direct
it and it'll be awesome. Let's go do it.

Speaker 5 (46:40):
Let's go just celebrated the twentieth year of Entourage hitting
the airwave, So let's get it off.

Speaker 1 (46:45):
Oh I think you know, looking back, I think Entourage
episodes were like eleven minutes long. When I think back
to they did not have long episodes.

Speaker 3 (46:53):
It's like you didn't love that opening theme song though,
Oh the opening.

Speaker 4 (46:57):
Theme song was great.

Speaker 7 (46:58):
No.

Speaker 4 (46:58):
I loved Entore.

Speaker 1 (46:59):
I love the and I love the skewering of Hollywood
and the crazy stuff that CNSIG Minneapolis.

Speaker 4 (47:05):
I mean, some of the stuff was just so right off.

Speaker 5 (47:07):
But the late great Bob Saggett, Yeah, oh sure, Gold
Harry Gold, one of the great characters, which you know,
at times people will tell you is not too far
from pivot himself. But you know, go and former Fox
Sports radio host alumni Association Jerry Ferrara.

Speaker 1 (47:23):
When Saggett warned, Vince, you stay away from my daughters.

Speaker 4 (47:27):
Vince, don't you have sex with any of them? Right,
I'm warning you right now, you stay away from both
of them.

Speaker 1 (47:31):
Okay, but look, this is Look I feel bad for
TNT because look, it's been such a big touchstone and
and people are certainly going to be upset the last
year on TNT, and it's gonna be very sappy, and
I'm sure we'll hear from Barkley and and Ernie Johnson
in the coming days about this, but you just can't
stop the future. I mean, just I'll ask you this,

(47:53):
is there any way in any scenario. Do you see
the NBA saying, oh, TNT was right, we misinterpreted our
deal with them, and we have to go with them
as our partner for the next eleven year. Do you
really see that. Of course that's not gonna happen. It's over,
but it's going to Amazon.

Speaker 5 (48:09):
But in the end, you can match the business side
of it right from a straight dollars and cents. That's
not matching the proposal. And that's where in the courtroom
it's gonna get shot down, right where they'll be able
to say, come on, this is just stupid.

Speaker 3 (48:24):
It's not dollars for dollars.

Speaker 5 (48:26):
You're like, you're matching a full proposal right as to
how you're gonna help grow the league and show revenue
growth and year after year value.

Speaker 3 (48:35):
For this thing.

Speaker 5 (48:36):
And yeah, for Ernie for for Chuck for I mean,
Shack's got a new game show that's coming out now,
so I mean he's got a million million businesses. He'll
find his way onto and behind the microphone somewhere, and
the rest of the guys will too. Ernie Johnson, you know,
taking a leave from his baseball duties. Hopefully everything's all
right with he and his family. He'll be back for
the new year. But you know, their whole thing was

(48:57):
about taking care of the production team and and the
folks behind the scenes and the continuity there. So hopefully
Colberheads prevail in that respect and they find a way
to keep it together, because, I mean, in our industry,
Jason sobody, B and C blocks will be lost for content.
What did Chuck and Shack say? Yeah, yeah, I put
that now or two? Just catch that's really the biggest

(49:20):
I'm sure it's not about fans being bad. It's people
in our business and they're lazy asses of Hey, what
did this guy say?

Speaker 1 (49:27):
Hey, I can't I don't know what to talk about.
I'm done. So what did somebody else say that we
could play back here? I'm excited we we'll get round
Ball Rock again. I mean, I'm one of.

Speaker 4 (49:36):
Those nerds that like, oh, I'm sick of people talking
about round Ball Rock. You know, round Ball Rock is.

Speaker 3 (49:41):
The best tash show.

Speaker 1 (49:44):
Exit out about a Fresco Exit, swalling down The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. We'll have
more basketball on the way, but coming up next, there's
a couple of quarterbacks who really want to get paid.
Maybe they don't see the field till they do get paid.
Will they get their money? That and more coming up
next Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (50:03):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 4 (50:14):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (50:15):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Francisco Lindor
Swinging along.

Speaker 4 (50:20):
Oh, one of night, Mets Mets, Mets, Mets make and
it's not playable, you know, and I I you know.

Speaker 1 (50:27):
And the thing is, I texted my dad and I said, Dad,
my computer's down, my internet's busted. I don't know what's
the score of the Mets and the Yankees. It's got
to be close to being over. I texted this in
the ninth inning when it was swell to two. Not
heard back from him. Not heard back? Your father hates
not heard back.

Speaker 5 (50:43):
At least for these two days, and then everything will
be right. Does it be with his buddies in Syracuse.
Why you would decide, hey, let's go vacation when it's
ninety eight degrees with one hundred percent humidity in Syracuse,
New York at the end of July.

Speaker 3 (51:00):
I don't hey, hey, hey, just say you're good, hey.

Speaker 1 (51:02):
Just like Aaron Rodgers, these these reservations were made way
ahead of time, and he couldn't change him. All right,
just so you know where you're going to Syracuse or Egypt.
These things are difficult to change.

Speaker 3 (51:12):
No, one hundred.

Speaker 5 (51:13):
Percent rebooking fees, cancelation fees, flight changes. I mean, those
are all very real things that a guy who has
made forty million dollars a year for the last at
least five or six really needs to be concerned with.

Speaker 3 (51:28):
And I'm talking about your dad.

Speaker 1 (51:29):
Of course, joining us now the hotline for all the
big news in the NFL. He has a long time,
some would say lifetime NFL insider. He has a Pro
Football Hall of very Good voter. Pretty soon we're gonna
have some very good speeches for some very good players
going into the Hall of Fame. When the first game
kicks off, it is Jason Cole, Jay Cale, what's up?

Speaker 4 (51:52):
Buddy, how are you.

Speaker 3 (51:55):
Well?

Speaker 7 (51:55):
I was gonna tell Harmon that the you know, when
you have the one to get away raked Egypt, you
know you guys stick with it.

Speaker 3 (52:03):
That's true.

Speaker 5 (52:04):
I mean Deshaun Foster is already looking to use that
one too though.

Speaker 7 (52:07):
Uh that was special, wasn't it? That was really special?

Speaker 3 (52:12):
Welcome to.

Speaker 7 (52:16):
Where are we? What planet are we on? This is
not the UCLA I played.

Speaker 4 (52:23):
For, Yeah, one and eleven, Get ready for UCLA one
and eleven this year? Good luck?

Speaker 7 (52:32):
All of the West coast Oregon will be above five hundred.
But the USC is going to get it's just going
to get their butts handed to them all all the
seats and long too, like they're not ready. Lincoln Riley's
not ready for the Big ten. And so you got them.
UCLA is terrible. Washington had when like everybody leaves, you know,

(52:56):
not only they have like every first round pick, but
then they had everybody else who is in a good left.
So they're going to be terrible. Get ray for Stamford
and col In the acc Oh my god?

Speaker 1 (53:09):
So you so you don't think Washington can win with
Billy Joe Hobert at quarterback this year?

Speaker 7 (53:16):
I like it, let's just say this, I'm giving Harbaugh
a better chance, all right. The best part about it
is having Harbaugh Eastern Harbor West. I mean, it's definitely
they got this. You know. Two packers is a biggie

(53:38):
thing going where they're just going to say the most
outlandish things that they possibly can to see which one
is going to get the most merc recognition, right, Like
Lamar Jackson greatest cornerback in NFL history, Like I'm not
sure he's the best guy in his division, right, Like
can we just start with that?

Speaker 9 (53:57):
You know?

Speaker 3 (53:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (53:59):
But then you today, the first day of training camp
is like being born, coming out of the womb, and
you know, you're saying and now you're not anymore.

Speaker 4 (54:08):
I think that's better than Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 7 (54:10):
He's so full of himself. It's just that's what I
mean though it is two pack versus thinking. It's like
it's like when Harbaugh, it's just all the crazy things.
I'm gonna I'm going to write a book about Harbach
because I maintained this. Harbaugh could write a biography, an autobiography,
and somebody else could do a biography of him. There'd

(54:32):
be totally different books and completely accurate one.

Speaker 2 (54:40):
Well, there you go.

Speaker 4 (54:41):
There's your writing assignment.

Speaker 7 (54:43):
Oh I can't wait to do I can't wait to
write Harpor. You know Jim Harbaugh's biography John. I'd like
to write about John because he's a He's a little
bit more logical, but he did stretch reality this week.
I gotta give it. I gotta give it that I
like him and I like him. I think I say
this kind of stuff and everybody's, Oh, you're just hate men. No.

(55:06):
I like the fire, I really do. But don't do that.
Tune in Greaves player, stop stop, Okay, never mind, go ahead.

Speaker 1 (55:19):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carbon Live fromthtireg dot
com Studios. NFL Insider Jason Cole with us here. All right, So,
because I know you've been chomping at the bit for
this story for the last twenty four hours, the Cowboys fly.

Speaker 4 (55:31):
To training camp. Cede Lamb is not on the plane.
He is holding out. He wants a new deal.

Speaker 1 (55:36):
Jerry Jones, who is not giving money to anybody, is
now going to have to watch as much.

Speaker 7 (55:41):
All in, baby, all in. In.

Speaker 4 (55:45):
What do you take What do you take away from this?

Speaker 7 (55:48):
Well? I take away I forgot you. Everybody's talking about
the negotiation with Michael Parsons. We are that's important, the
negotiation with Dak, the negotiation with Cdee Lamb. But I
think that we all forgot the most important negotiation was
obvious went on in a courtroom in Techa, Canada, right
as he did everything he could to avoid going to

(56:11):
trial with Alexander Davis. So that cuts settled today. That
was comical. But maybe he'll be able to pay attention
to his team. I just here's my thing about Jerry Jones,
and I just kind of came to this thought recently.
Is he likes the show of the negotiation. You know

(56:33):
what I'm saying. It's sort of like a sports version
of Trump doing the Apprentice, you know, like negotiating a deal,
the art of the deal kind of stuff. Yeah, because
he likes the press that it gets, He likes the
attention that it gets. It shows what a shrewd negotiator is,
and he just like forgets like negotiations shouldn't be ugly

(56:55):
with your best players. But he's been doing this forever,
like he did it with Emmitt Smith, you know, after
they won a Super Bowl, would be doing kay the
guy you know, your best your best players shouldn't have
to fight for money. This' hard now, I say that.
And San Francisco is dealing with its own issues between

(57:16):
ak and and Trent Williams and but the Sarwatiski you
look and go, yeah, there were a couple of plays
from winning a super Bowl. The Cowboys, You're like, they're
a couple of plays from being complete frauds. I mean
that that's how I look at the Cowboys. They're they're
a lot closer to being out of the playoffs entirely

(57:38):
and not being anywhere than they already sniffing any kind
of Super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (57:44):
So the fact that we have these three players still
unsigned acrimony whatever, is this more steven kind of putting
jerryus out? I mean, I know they like to show
it all, but eventually he acquiesces.

Speaker 3 (57:55):
Does that happen eventually?

Speaker 7 (57:57):
Oh, eventually they give in you. But it's staredown stuff
and and and they're like the drama. I mean, I
still remember sitting in Jerry's office one time. He does
it's you know, it's it's it's the best thing. The
most consistent ratings of the soap operas, And I'm like, yeah,

(58:18):
the NFL is a soap opera for men, and so
he digs the soap opera. He thinks that this helps
him make money. And it's like, you want to win games,
like that's the goal. You want to win games. You
want to win championships. And Jerry just always loses sight
of like what's like he's so much more more concerned

(58:41):
with branding and you know, hence cowboy bees. This is yeah,
absolutely like he's so into branding. Like he's put him
a star on those South African killer bees. I mean,
he really is putting the star on him. They've got
genetically modified so that the bees are born with a

(59:03):
star on them.

Speaker 4 (59:07):
Eli. Now it's a sci fi movie.

Speaker 1 (59:09):
It's like Crocosaurus versus you know, Mega sharks.

Speaker 7 (59:12):
Don't you remember that? Don't you remember that that movie
about the South African Killer Breason. They ended up with
the in the I think it was a New Orleans
superdome or that see, I think so, and they like
they drove the car and they had to turn the
air conditioning way down to freeze the bees in the
superdome and I'm you know, I you know, finally they

(59:36):
they chilled out the bees or something like that. But
the bees were about to get in through you know,
into the car classic. But yes, it's something. It's that
caliber of bad sci fi movie. Is Jerry Jones with
the bees trying to figure out, how do I pay CD?
Lady by the way, how much we Alexander will take

(59:56):
that off we're given to to CD? Can we do that?
Can we do them?

Speaker 4 (01:00:01):
Spak spare not.

Speaker 7 (01:00:06):
You are not biting on Alexander Davis at all. You
guys just don't want to touch that in any way,
shape or form.

Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
First of all, I thought you said Alexander dag I'm like, wow,
he hasn't played for the Senators for like twenty years.

Speaker 7 (01:00:17):
No, no, Alexander, Alexander Davis. She's very famous.

Speaker 1 (01:00:21):
Yeah, no, no, no, you're right. But I mean I
know where you were going to go. I t you
up on the Cowboys and you say what you want to.
That's kind of where it was.

Speaker 7 (01:00:29):
I well, but I did say what I wanted to.
So yeah, that negotiation could really put it crimped.

Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
Now now you're never writing the Jerry Jones book. Now
you're out of that. That's not going to happen.

Speaker 7 (01:00:40):
Well, that's already don Van. That has already got that deal,
so don't worry about that onely.

Speaker 4 (01:00:47):
Is that breaking news right here? Like, is that happening?

Speaker 7 (01:00:50):
Yeah, it's happening, don Van. That is going to write
a book about Jerry Jones. I think he's already been
been paid for it. Can you imagine what that's going
to be?

Speaker 3 (01:00:58):
Like?

Speaker 7 (01:00:59):
Oh my, let me.

Speaker 4 (01:01:02):
Ask you this. Let me ask you this.

Speaker 1 (01:01:03):
Normally, when someone writes a book about someone, you meet
with him. How many times, like when you did the
l Way book, how many times did you.

Speaker 3 (01:01:10):
Meet a.

Speaker 7 (01:01:12):
Couple? You know it's spent I don't know, weeks worth
of time with him.

Speaker 4 (01:01:16):
Okay, how many times do you think other.

Speaker 7 (01:01:18):
Than phone calls and stuff like that. No, Van now
has spent a lot of time with Jared.

Speaker 1 (01:01:23):
He probably had to spend every day for like three years.

Speaker 4 (01:01:26):
There's a guy written a book on me. Right now,
this is done.

Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
Oh by the way, this next half hour doesn't go
in the book, just so you know.

Speaker 4 (01:01:32):
Right, I'll be I'll be out, I'll see a little.

Speaker 9 (01:01:34):
Bit, all right.

Speaker 7 (01:01:36):
I give I give Jerry credit. I give Jerry kay
for he does not go off the record like that.
He will he will put it out there now he
wants to hide some things. I'm not saying that, but
if you get him an interview situation, all right, if

(01:01:57):
you get him in an interview situation, he will like,
there's not a lot, there's not a lot of well,
we can't print any of that. He just doesn't do that.
He's like, he'll let it, He'll let it fire. Man.
I give him, I give him kudos for that. He's
never said and he's certainly never done that with Man,
not to the extent that I know and now and

(01:02:17):
that has written some stuff that he didn't want out there,
but it was the truth. And Jerry generally doesn't mind,
you know, like he he doesn't mind the truth out
there because he is firmly of the belief that all
publicity is good publicity. It's like that Ed Werder quote,
you know, we're getting fifteen minutes on a strong staying

(01:02:39):
or there's gonna I didn't say everything was gonna best. Well,
we got fifteen minutes on ESPN. That's that's him, man.
He just wanted to show the brand. Man put that
star on the bees. Baby, that's what you've gotta do.

Speaker 1 (01:02:52):
This is my monag just my son, Steven. This is
Tony Romo. And there's a my biographer, Van Natta right there.
He's over there to side. He'll be writing stuff down.
Make sure you'll.

Speaker 7 (01:03:03):
Yeah, but he's not my biography. He is a bob,
a very different relationship, all right.

Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
So so so let's let let me end with this,
because talk about avoiding things. He talked about it today. Uh,
he says, everything is great. He's on the same page
as Robert Salah. He was fine because he missed the
Jets Mini camp. He went to Egypt. He had the
trip booked. Aaron Rodgers says, you know, I didn't know
it was going to be the same time, but everything
is fine. I really wanted to go to Egypt, and

(01:03:36):
so he went to Egypt. He missed the last couple
of days of mini camp, and he was there for
all the OTAs.

Speaker 4 (01:03:43):
What do you think about this.

Speaker 7 (01:03:46):
Again? When you have that want to get away, right,
you've got to take advantage of it, you really do.
You know you don't get want to get away to
Egypt very often? So less here all right, Look, I
come back to Robert sala Is is Dave wants that too,
like that's just what he is. And so like they
weren't prepared for what they were going to say about

(01:04:08):
Aaron Rodgers months ago, and they didn't have you know,
they weren't straight on this and they didn't think about
it at all. Like, how about we just make an excuse.
Is doing something that's important that's when planned out, We
understand what it is, all that stuff. But at the
same time, Rogers should have been there because it does

(01:04:30):
send the message to the team. You could say, you know,
all you want, oh, I was there at ten out
of the eleven weeks, or you know I was you
know whatever Gobbledego came up with this for this week,
right went with big cat and PFT comment or right
whatever that BS, I mean, it's they were. They did

(01:04:51):
a good job interviewing. I might give them credit because
they kind of pinned them down. But whatever the kind
of BS excuse the team out of his mouth. I
was looking at dude. The word mandatory was on there,
and you're the leader of the team, You're you should
be there. It's not it's not that complicated. If you want,

(01:05:12):
if you want to show the other guys that this
is important and that you want to win and that
you want, you know, to go out with something more
than just the one super Bowl title. You have to
make a statement to the team and so you can
go to Egypt next year, or how about this, do
what Harmon said, you know, pay any change fees. You know,

(01:05:34):
Southwest will give your credits on your flight. I mean
I still have some southwack West credits. I make it work, right, like,
you know you can do that. Southwest is very forgiving.
So you take the credits. You may not you may
lose a few points and stuff like that, but you know,
you Aaron Rodgers, You're okay, right, So it is it

(01:05:57):
is not a it is not a significant real thing.
It's not a significant real thing that he was at
that he was not there on those particular days. It
is a significant.

Speaker 9 (01:06:10):
Statement.

Speaker 7 (01:06:12):
And that's because you got you have to say to everybody,
I am all in, I am, I am on page
with everything that this coach wants. And don't give your coach,
you know, don't give wantstet I mean, sella another chance
to be a buffoon, Like, don't turn him into that,
because you basically you expose him and put him up

(01:06:36):
to the buffoonery on this one. He looks bad in
all of this and the whole organization looked bad as
they stumbled around this, but heck, it's the Jets. What
do you expect.

Speaker 1 (01:06:46):
He's all in with us every single week here on
the show. NFL Insider Jason Coley's on Twitter at Jason.

Speaker 4 (01:06:53):
Cole sixty two. As always, Jay Cole appreciated, buddy. We'll
