Please give this part you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome in Side hour two The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon, live from the Tirack
dot Com Studios tirect dot com. I'll hope you get there.
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended on SLOs. Tirac dot com
is the way tire buying should be. Just tonight, have

(00:51):
the man to my left in your thoughts for a moment,
Mike Harmon, because Michael Kopek at one point was gonna
be the next great pitcher in weeks of League Baseball.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
One amount of time with the Red Sox, then with
the White Sox, and now he's a Dodger. Well, they
poured one out for him in the bullpen. They did
that It was a pretty cool thing. But the question
is for Dodger fans out there and five seventy LA Sports,
how much do they not like Miguel Vargas because they
sent him to the White Sox.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Yeah, it's like, uh, if they could have hm, I'm
trying to think if they could have found a way
to get Pedro Bias in the trade too, it would
have been look at you, ah, look at Pedro Bias.
Catch he'll fit right in. He can't hit.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Oh boy, well, I mean he'll fit in with the
four A squad that his the White Sox right now
as they lose another one to the Royals up five
to two.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
When Steve Desager decided to put the touch of death
on the White Socks.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Steve Steve de Sager started his update, the score was
five to two. When he finished, it was eight to five. Well,
but that's how First of all, that's how long he
disagrees up it's our Secondly, that's how quickly it happened.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Well, no, he turned his attention to other things, and
then back to back home runs flew out of the stadium,
and then by the time we circled to the end,
it's like there's the pitch to Bobby Wit. Yeah, I
turned my microphone off because I like my job here
at Foxmore sure, and you saw me and it was
one of those if your red lips.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
There were a lot of expletives, yeah, oh yeah, sure.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Bit flying anger, But you know, also an acceptance of
how poorly my squad is playing. And there go the
dreams of perhaps running off fifty five straight to finish
the year at five hundred.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Let's rip off fifty five straight.

Speaker 5 (02:41):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
We'll have more baseball coming up. We got John Paul Morosi,
our number one insider, joining us in about twenty minutes.
All the latest who he expects to get moved before
the deadline tomorrow. The big trades we've already had the
last few days, but the last twenty four hours. He's
a double shot of men's and women's basketball. The women
win their opener to a against Japan. They struggle a
little bit early on. I gotta say I wasn't thrilled

(03:06):
with the guard play. They looked like they had trouble
with Japan's guards entertaining. They had a couple they had
a few possessions where they were careless with the ball,
they picked up their dribbled. Look the bigs between Grinder
and Stewart and Wilson, they're just gonna dominate every single
That's it.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
It's like my dad when he was in high school
in Chicago, in the Chicago Catholic League, they had two leagues.
You had the five eight and under and you had
you know, the quote regular league.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Oh are we gonna do that for the Olympics now
five eight and under league?

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Because what we're seeing in the down low was like,
just dumped the ball down low. You can miss, you
can miss nine shots in a row, get your own rebound,
and just toy with people.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
You like them. During the game, they said, you know
this Japan team vertically challenged against this. You know, like
Britney Grinder was getting rebounds. She was putting her hand
in the air and getting the ball like, okay, I
don't have to worry about It's like if you had
a game where Hey, so and So's older brother, the
three of us are gonna play him in one game
of one on one and he's like two feet taller.
But there's three of us, we're short and there's one

(04:06):
of him. We're gonna play a fun game. And see
you win.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
But they started playing the you know, hey, second chance
opportunities like this is not fair. Throw that stat out
like because they're rebounding their own misses and like cursing
at themselves like how am I missing this? And then
putting it back up for that third time for the
bucket and look, dominate and go into the low post.
And it's obviously a competitive advantage. Early in the game,

(04:31):
three point shooting kept things kind of even. So some
anxious moments. You had that sign in the stands. That
was certainly a motivator. Oh yeah, you need Caitlin Clark Dimittis. Yeah,
and they all saw it. They all thought.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
But so far, so good for the women's Look, they'll
probably roll to the gold medal. I don't think we're
gonna see a lot of difficulty there. But again, because
of their bigs are just too talented Stewie. A little
bit of a different story for the men as they win,
but not without controversy. Jason Tatum Tyre's Halliburton do not
play in the open victory, and Steve Kerr had to
spend most of the day today saying, hey, don't worry,

(05:06):
I apologize to Jason he's gonna play in our next
game against South Sudan. Don't worry, It's all good. Here
was Steve Kerr from earlier today. Jason will playing tomorrow.
I'm not going to answer.

Speaker 6 (05:16):
Your next question, which is if he plays, who doesn't,
But we're going to need him. And part of this
job for me is to keep everybody engaged and ready.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
And look, there's a bigger point to be made about
Steve Kerr, but first when he's talking about trying to
keep everybody happy with the playing time, and you see
now players like Kevin Durant just back from the injured list,
and Lebron James absolutely dominating so far in the games
leading up to it, and Kad comes off the bench

(05:48):
to rescue the United States. Like we talked about the
difficulties the United States has why they struggle in international basketball.
But here's Kad who had not played in I think
three years, and comes off the bench and here he is,
and he's great eight for short periods of time, and
it's not suddenly, well, why can't he play, like why
can't Lebron do it for short periods of time against

(06:09):
inferior competition. Lebron and Katie know, we're only playing so
many minutes. We don't need to be the big Everything
doesn't have to go through us. There's not a lot
of pressure because we can just go out and be ourselves.
It's much different because you know, these guys both know, okay,
we can take pressure off us in different situations. Other
guys come in here and play big. It doesn't matter

(06:29):
so for short when they're only gonna play twenty five minutes, Yeah,
Lebron and any older player are gonna look unbelievable for
that amount of time. Now, when you're playing every other
night in three games in five days, it's oddly. Hey boy,
Lebron's he looked bad tonight. He had to sit this
game out. Yeah, but when you're not playing that much basketball,
you put everything into twenty five minutes. Yeah, the best

(06:52):
players in the world are gonna look good for those
twenty five minutes.

Speaker 5 (06:55):
I laughed heartily.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
I was on air with Ryan Hollins and we were
watching the first half of that game. So Kevin Durant
comes in with a smile on his face. Here's the
sixth man clad, you know, dapping everybody up. He's all
fired up, and he starts hitting shots he's grinning like
an idiot the entire time. No no, no, no, no hitting shots.
It's shooting over like he's got a good six inches
on the guy trying to guard him, so he's just

(07:17):
shooting over him time and again and just laughing it up.
But to your point, you know you've got you know,
the next five mentality right, you're not even calling it's
starting a lot of first five, next five hockey waves
and insertion. Yeah, you go play hard and for a
couple of minutes, then you tag out like guess what
come back in finish with your seventeen to twenty minutes played,

(07:38):
you're still fresh as a daisy and you've absolutely obliterated
your competition. But KD coming in yesterday, I mean, that
was that was just something to watch, right because it
was still the Willier wony and once it was confirmed,
all right, he's going to be available, it's like how
quickly does he check in? And then once he got
in and goes on that heater where he hits his
first eight shots, and it was just a sight to behold,

(08:02):
and you can just see the guys on the bench
just shaking their head like all right, evidently it's it's
Kadie's game to run this thing away because look tight
early once again, right, some of the early turnovers embad
much written about him once again, and then you have
Katie come in and it's like, all right, Lebron's warned
the Cape a couple of times.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
My turn. Yeah, So it's it's going to be a thing. Obviously,
we talked about parsing out playing time was going to
be difficult. There's a lot of politics involved in it
because all these guys have to go back to the
NBA and Steve Kerrz gotta be there, so it's Differulso.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
That whole Nike thing still swirling in the background. Still
there's Jason Tatum picking up for his guy, Jalen Brown.
So I'm wondering if the conspiracies tinfoil hat did he
get punished?

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Tatum didn't play and as you did, this has been
and thank Tyre's Halliburn's going. Man, No one cares about
me because because the Celtics one. That's cool. But for
all of this controversy and I and now I believe
this more than anything else. You can say what you
want about how happy Team USA players are, how happy
they are about playing time, because in a situation like this,

(09:06):
you're never gonna keep anybody happy because guys are gonna
come off the bench. You haven't come off the bench
in years. Some are gonna be okay with it. Some
are If there's a time when Lebron and Steph and
ad are on the bench down the stretch, that's just
how it has to go, they're not gonna be happy.
There is no one better to be the twenty twenty
four Olympic basketball head coach better than Steve Kerr. There

(09:29):
is nobody who would be able to handle all the
craziness that goes on with just putting a roster out
there and getting them to play together better than Steve Kerr.
Think about all the different things that the head coach
would have to deal with, right You got to deal
with Joel Embiid, who stinks and how do you give
him less minutes?

Speaker 5 (09:46):
You promised?

Speaker 1 (09:49):
Yeah, you give them all kinds of chances. But he
looks bad, maybe he's not healthy, maybe he's not in shape,
whatever it is, not playing well in Foba. You have
so much that you're dealing with. Not only do you
have a bunch of players in their prime right now,
who are amongst the best in the league, like Halliburton
and Jason Tatum. You have the older guard that are

(10:12):
still great in short bursts like Lebron and KD and Steph.
You also have the role players that, boy, as time
goes on, these guys kind of have to play, like
man Atabio kind of has to play. And it's like
he's not one of the top twelve players, but for
this team what they need, like he's gotta be out there.
Do you have three tiers of players that all have

(10:33):
to play and they may not be happy about it.
But I'll tell you what. Does Steve Kerr have a
lid on it? Yeah? Has anybody come out publicly and
set out unhappy they are? I don't like Steve Kerr.
I don't let it know. There is nobody better to
deal with this than Steve Kerr because it's because some
coaches would say, well, if you hate me, you'll play together.
He's not that kind of guy. All right, Well, but

(10:55):
if all right, but if you try to be everybody's friend,
they're gonna steam roll over you. Well he's not that.
No one's going to walk away from this and say
Steve Kerr wasn't fair. Steve Kerr wasn't upfront with me.
Steve Kerr went behind my back. You cannot like the
ad Jason Tatum. I'm sure he hated not but of
course you know he didn't want to go in at
the end of the game when it's scrub time, at
the end the last goplement. He hated that. But you

(11:17):
know what, Steve Kerr talked him about it. And has
Jason Tatum said anything he is not. Steve Kerr has
already said, Jason Tatum's gonna play in our next game,
already tamping down that controversy. And as he said, somebody
else is not gonna play. But you know what, he'll
have a conversation with that person and say this is
how we're going forward. And he may not be happy,
but he's treating everybody fair and he's not doing anything
not based on results. Because what happened Jason Tatum, was

(11:38):
he really good leading up to it. No, he had
a lot of chances. So you know what, Sorry, Jason,
you're gonna sit. Maybe that's the motivation you need, and
he gets a great Jason Tatum down the stretch of
the rest of pool play into the knockout round. There's
nobody better to handle all of this than Steve Kerr.
He is the best guy to handle this well. I mean,
you had Kade that you didn't know what you're gonna
get right. He coulda come out for two minutes not

(12:00):
played well, guess what, Jason Tatum's the next guy, help
off the bench. Instead, Durant comes out, looks fresh, moving well,
not missing anything, and he's hitting every shot right.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
He's getting knocked on his ass and he's still hitting
shots and getting up and laughing and having a blast right.
And so it's like you're not taking him out when
he's on a heater like that. But for Steve Kerr,
he's a guy that's earned his stripes. As as a coach,
we've watched the titles he's had to manage egos, cause
that's a big thing. As a player. He watched it
with Phil Jackson right during the Rodman Jordan Pippen years,

(12:33):
where you have to, you know, make sure you're managing everybody.

Speaker 5 (12:36):
Well.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
He watched Popovich do it in San Antonio and go
on down the line as a player, and certainly he's
had to do it for years with Golden State.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Look what he's had to.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
Do with Draymond and Clay, And fortunately he's had step
who seems to be the most level headed of guys
that you can And guess what, Tada, there's this guy
as the top, one of the top guys on this
squad as well. So in terms of managing egos and
pulling the strings again, nobody better. And for him, I
keep telling you, he's got to deal with it for

(13:07):
three weeks. Everybody can be mad at him. For three weeks,
you still rumble the gold. The only guy he's got
to worry about is when he gets home, he's gonna
have to look at the mouthpiece chewing Steph Curry. Everybody
else goes back to their other team. They can hate
them all they want.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
When they win the gold medal, we're gonna look back
and say, Wow, he navigated the most difficult time to
be a head coach in Olympic basketball? Steve, do you
want this job in perpetuity? Do you want this job
like Mike Sashad? Do you want this job in twenty
twenty eight, twenty thirty two? Do you want this job
for the next three or four Olympics? Because he's the
guy that can handle it. I mean, really, they have

(13:42):
the absolute right guy with because you can you imagine,
like Tom Thibodeau, if this was going on, can you
imagine Doc Rivers coaching the Olympic team? Can you? I mean,
can you love for Medea?

Speaker 7 (13:53):
Come on?

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Come on, I mean at your popcorn Tibodeau, he will
only have six guys playing and I'll be sitting. Lebron
would be on the bench and step would be.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
Gave me a half aass FN on defense that time.
Sit out, Lebron. You never get off the bench. Lebron
is a DNP the first four games of the Olympics
and ain't like his defensive effort. Can't rotate im He's out.

Speaker 1 (14:14):

Speaker 1 (16:19):
Speaking of smoking meat, how about that Mets win tonight
over the Twins fifteen to two Mets.

Speaker 5 (16:25):
That's my teams going thirteen on Mondays.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
Yeah, and you're not really great on the other days either.
There's not like we've blown twenty seven saves. What what
day week? What day of the week is your best record?

Speaker 5 (16:36):
I would say probably Thursday because you don't play his games?

Speaker 1 (16:39):
Yeah, okay, getaway Day. Yeah, Hey, the White sucks seven
and eighteen.

Speaker 5 (16:44):
Then we really get on the train. Well, our guys
are expert packers.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
Well, our next guest talk to us a week ago
and gave us the Big Bowl prediction this would be
the best trade deadline he has worked on in his
twenty plus years in the business, and so far he
is absolutely one hundred percent of profit. MLB Network, Fox
Sports Radio Baseball insider reporter John Paul Morosi joining us
now in the hotline. John Paul, don't tell you man,

(17:11):
you're right. You hit it right on the head. We've
seen a deadline and a half already and we still
have another day to go.

Speaker 7 (17:18):
I love this. I love this time of year, and
I love this deadline in particular because you're exactly right.
If we just called it off as of midnight Eastern time,
which is not long from right now, and we just said, okay,
all the deals are done, we would call this a
very active deadline. But oh, we have got another day
to go. And my theory on this is that when

(17:42):
teams have the opportunity to make moves in advance, like
they've done, that it leaves time to get creative on
the final day, and when that happens, blockbusters can occur.
This is like twenty years ago when Nomar went to
the Cubs that kind of a trade that just totally

(18:03):
shocked everybody. I'm hoping that we see something like that tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
All right, now, before we get to tomorrow, let's take
that a very active deadline the last few days. The
one or two trade you liked the most from either perspective, Well,
we've seen a lot of Soccacucci get traded tonight, montask
got traded tonight. One or two trades that you liked
the most.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
So far, Well, a couple of things.

Speaker 7 (18:24):
I think that the Blue Jays did exceptionally well with
the package of prospects they got back from the Astros
for Yusa Ka Kucci. They did very very well. I
did not think I had people telling me that independently
that Joey Lo Perfido by himself would not be available,
and yet he was part of a three player package

(18:46):
that went to Toronto in this deal. So good on
Ross Atkins. I know he's had a lot of heat
on him in the last year or so, but he's
done very well of this deadline, so I think that
was a tremendously successful turn. I'm a little surprised that
the Tigers haven't traded Jack Flaherty yet, which tells me
that they must think that, based on the price for
rental starting pitchers, that they've got a better deal out there,

(19:09):
So we will see about him. The other thing, I
believe the Seattle Mariners did a very good job of
gradually adding to their ball club since we last talked.
They've added Randy a Rose Arena, Jimmy Garcia, and then
today Justin Turner. Now, Turner is not the player that
he once was with the Dodgers, but he is a

(19:30):
veteran who tends to, I think, put forward very good
at bats and make a positive impact on this teammates.
And this is a Mariners team that just needs more
professional hitters. And they've got the electrifying player in a
Ros Arena and the veteran in Turner. Both of them,
of course, they played against each other in the twenty
twenty World Series, so you've got some playoff experience now

(19:51):
on a team that's still looking to make their mark
in October. I like this deal from Seattle's perspective.

Speaker 3 (19:57):
Boy, just think if the White Sox hadn't pulled the
trigger on that Dylan c steal in March, what he
could command, that's all.

Speaker 7 (20:05):
That's a great call. We would be talking again, it's
a great point. Think about Dylan Cees and what his
value would be relative to what we're talking about. For
Terrek Scubel, for example, it's a very interesting proposition. Now,
maybe maybe the White Sox would struggle to do better
than what they did. I mean, they did pretty well

(20:27):
in the trade with the Podres, But you're right, I mean,
the right combination of teams is out there looking for
starting pitching. And really what takes tomorrow from a great
deadline to an all timer is if Schooble gets traded.
That's what That's what would make this from a great
deadline to just one that we're we're going to be
writing epic poems about. And that's basically Terrek Scoubel or

(20:51):
someone of that of that caliber. Not really anybody else
does half that same caliber, but that's basically what we're
waiting on here tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
Well, what about Blake's now points he's got an option year, right,
the two year player option at the end of this one.

Speaker 7 (21:07):
Yes, and why But to me, why it's so interesting
with Blake Snell is that because of the option yere
that you're talking about, that makes it a little bit
problematic because it complicates matters for the acquiring team. Are
you going to pay the price and assume that he's
going to opt out, or let's say that he pulls

(21:29):
the hamstring next week, or or has some other sort
of injury, or he pitches poorly, then you're on the
hook for thirty million bucks next year. And that's that's
a difficult proposition. So you're going to have to, I think,
have some flexibility in those conversations and a lot of
trust to be able to figure out what that looks like. Now,

(21:49):
would you have a deal contingent on an extension or
reworking the deal? Maybe, But I don't know. Guys, that
to me seems a little bit. It seems a little
bit challenging to wrap your mind around it. So for me,
it's scoople Is is the guy everybody wants to get.
He's got two years of control beyond this year. He's
He's the guy that I think there's such focus on.

(22:10):
Uh snell Is is only under contract for that one
more year next year. I think he'd be an easier
guy to move, but for this option, that makes it
more complicated. So that the one team that I've heard
about snell today, which really interested me was the Podres
maybe going back to San Diego. You Darvish is still
away from the team. Uh, they are trying to get

(22:33):
impactful starting pitchers, So do not be surprised that the
Podres make a big splash tomorrow. I would say Snell
is the more likely guy, but don't rule out the
possibility of Jack Flaherty as well.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
Hey, in the Mets CoA trade with the Rangers and
get shirz are into ground back. Yeah, they're selling why not?

Speaker 7 (22:48):
It's totally unspooled. But what's what's the Uh, it's like
that what I see now on social media, it's like
unthread or thread unspooled whatever that It's like, we're gonna
spool it and roll it all right back. But the
Rangers interesting that they traded the Rensen but they also
turn around and acquired Carson Kelly from Detroit, so you

(23:11):
get a like a half season of a co catcher
to pair with Jonaheim. They're kind of in the middle
of a couple of different things. The Rangers are. But
the Mets, I tell you what I mean for me,
they probably need to look for a starting picture Jason, right,
I mean, when you look at their rotation they thought

(23:31):
they had saying now they don't and they're in a
playoff spot. So you really, I know that you weren't
planning on being a buyer, but you are right now
and you have to sort of act like it. So
I think that's what I see with the Mets right now.
I realize it was unexpected, but you got to lean
into it now, David Sterns and it's going to certainly
be a full segment on Sterearnsey and the Pope tomorrow morning.

Speaker 5 (23:55):
Nicely done.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
So Michael Kopek comes over from the White Sox, Tommy
Edmund and Oliver Gonzalez comes over from the Cardinals in
that three team deal by early afternoon tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
What's new on the Dodgers.

Speaker 7 (24:10):
That's a great question because it feels like there's still
one starting pitcher short. I know they've been active today.
You get Kopeck. Kopec is certainly still a very talented pitcher,
but he is straight out of central casting. For what
the Dodgers have developed and brought in for a long
time is a guy with big stuff who doesn't necessarily

(24:34):
stay healthy or take you deep into games on a
consistent basis. And this recipe for them has not been
enough to win the World Series with the exception of
the twenty twenty event. And I just think that that,
to me is a bit of a red flag. If
I f I'm the Dodgers, you cannot be totally comfortable

(24:56):
with your rotation yet, given that Bobby Miller has strug
given that Walker Bueler is struggling, there needs to be
I think one more starting pitcher required helpful, certainly to
have to have the addition there, but I just think
that they need more than Copek. If they're really serious
about when in the World Series this year, they need

(25:17):
one more guy that they can pair up with Zach
Wheeler against Zach Wheeler in an NLCS game or in
a World Series game against the aces of the American
League that they I believe they have to get one
more starting pitcher and maybe you know, the bullpen I
think is in a pretty good spot. They're expecting Brazier
to come back and make an impact and Grederol as

(25:38):
well in the second half. I think they'll be okay there,
but I think there's still one starter short.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
All right, So let's go back and let's finish where
you began here. But potentially, when you see all these trades,
this is when blockbusters happen. If I said to you,
complete the sentence tomorrow, you would not be surprised to
see what blockbuster trade.

Speaker 7 (25:58):
Happen google to the Orioles, that's the one that I think.
It's by the way the Tigers have have conducted their
business so far and the way the Oriols have conducted
their business so far, that possibility is still there because
the Tigers haven't moved him or Flirty for that matter,

(26:19):
and and the Orioles have not given up yet the
prospects that they would need to give up to get
this deal done, and they're under new ownership. That to
me is is the is the variable here. New ownership
can change the conversation. And so that's what I'm seeing
with this Baltimo Orioles team. Potentially, if the new owner

(26:39):
ownership comes in, the the Rubinstein group comes in and says, listen,
we've got a special team. Clearly, we've got a tremendous
base of prospects, but they can't all play in our
lineup every day. At some point, you need to make
tough decisions about who your guys are and who your guy.
Your guys are not going to be and I think
the baltim Orioles my friends have arrived at that point

(27:00):
and they have a chance to by six pm tomorrow
declare to the entire Baseball world they intend to win
the World Series in twenty twenty four. And they can
do that by training for Trek Scoople, even if it
means putting in Jackson Holiday or Samuel Bassaio or Kobe Mayo,
that's what they would have to do. And I believe
there's still a chance. I'm not gonna say it's a

(27:21):
high chance, but it's a coin flip right now as
to whether or not that happens.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Who Great stuff from MLB insider John Paul Morosi's on
Twitter at John Morosi, that is at John Morosi. So, well,
you'll join us tomorrow night as we break down what
we saw kind of an easy day for you. Tomorrow,
we'll get caught up what was on.

Speaker 7 (27:42):
Yet lightlift, Yeah, light lift tomorrow And what we'll do
is is we'll we'll replay anything that we said tonight
that sounds pressient and if nothing, nothing came to pass,
then this was all just off the record and heard
by the number of friends.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
Tonight, all right, and I promise you if you tell
me one move, the Mets are going to make that
sterns he tells you, I will not fingers crossed tell
anybody else about it.

Speaker 7 (28:07):
Just so you know there there will be. There will
be a couple of texts that David Searn sent tomorrow,
I'm sure. But whether or not he responds to them
or says he's too busy is a separate conversation. So
we're gonna we're gonna do our best. Let's think, do
whatever information I get.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
All right, Thanks so much, John Paul, will talk to
you in twenty four hours. Enjoy the day, you bet.

Speaker 7 (28:26):
That's that's gonna be a fun twenty four hours between
now and that. My friends, all the best. Appreciate the
phone calls always. Thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Hi d brother, there goes John Paul, will get him tomorrow.
You know what he went, and he went down to
Zach Wheeler and Jed. I really thought he was gonna
start mentioning all former Mets, all the all the ones,
all the time that has now gone on to be
great elsewhere, all the You know what depressed me today
was when I was thinking about, Okay, the METSI the
starting pitcher, probably another guy in the bullpen.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
All this, and I read today that all four play.
When the Mets at twenty twenty two, the last time
they made the postseason two years ago, when they they
went forward to the headline, they traded for five players,
none of them are none of them anymore. None of
them are in baseball anymore, not even on the Mets.
None of them are in baseball.

Speaker 5 (29:08):
And you took your shot.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
None of them are in baseball.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
The pressure of being a Met and raising that lowly
franchise up, it is pressure.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
It flew too close to the sun. Man now a
guy who knew, Hey, he told Icarus wax wings they
won't work. You need something else. It's Steve de Sager
with what's trending in the wide world of sports.

Speaker 4 (29:30):
That was a flying close to the sun reference kid.
The MLB trade deadline is Tuesday. The Royals got pitcher
Michael Lorenzen from Texas today and Kansas City one tonight.
Eight five at the White Sox, who have lost fifteen
in a row. The Brewers acquired pitcher Frankie Montas from
the Reds Milwaukee with a home win over Atlanta eight

(29:52):
Sox in a three team deal. Saint Louis also got
outfielder Tommy fam Saint Louis lost at home tonight to
Texas and Nathan Valdis six three. The Mariners picked up
veteran Justin Turner from Toronto, but Seattle's three game winning

The lost to Logan Gilbert. The Guardians acquired outfielder Lane

(30:16):
his start tonight before the trade deadline. Tomorrow, Cleveland was
a winner at Detroit eight to four. It was eight
to nothing in the seventh Jose Ramirez with two home runs.
The Yankees won at Philadelphia fourteen to four. Aaron Judge

the season. Louis Hill eleven and five beat Zach Wheeler,
who's ten and five. Baltimore and Toronto have split a doubleheader.

(30:37):
Orioles took the opener eleven to five. Anthony Santender with
his thirtieth home run, but Vladimericaurero Junior and the nightcap
for the Jays had four hits, including a home run
in an eight to four victory. The Dodgers are off.
They picked up shortstop Amed Rosario, utility man Tommy Edmund,
and pitcher Michael Kopek. The Dodgers will play in San
Diego tomorrow. The Padres had won seventh straight until yesterday's

(31:00):
loss at Baltimore. The US women's basketball won its Olympic
opener one O two seventy six against Japan. Asia Wilson
twenty four points thirteen rebounds, Brianna Stewart with twenty two points,
a bronze medal for the US and men's gymnastics. That
was the three thousandth team USA medal in history at
Summer and Winter Games combined, easily the most ever. Japan

(31:22):
beat China for the men's gymnastics goal. Japan also won
gold in men's street skateboarding. The US took silver and
bronze there. Japan has the most golds so far, six
and the Jacksonville Jaguars waved kicker Riley Patterson back to you.

Speaker 1 (31:36):

could possibly imagine.

Speaker 3 (31:56):
Let's go no no, no, no, no no no. He's got competition.

It may be better. It's next right here, Jason and Mike.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. There's a long list. We're live from
the tireg dot com studios. There are a lot of
things that would be at the top.

Speaker 5 (32:31):
Say a lot of things.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
MLB trade that just went down the Braves after getting
overtaken by the Mets this weekend briefly and now about
to be overtaken again. They trade for Jorge Solaire. Yeah,
they needed something. Everybody's hurt first year of a three year,
forty two million dollar deal, and that's Braves money. We
will We're okay with giving a guy fifteen million a year.
But I'll tell you this, seeing them trade solaire dey'll

(32:55):
trade Blake Stell tomorrow, it's gonna.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
Start getting into how do we to go ate this?
How do we make it work for Snell? It was
genius right, comes back from the injuries and we put
quotes in whatever point seventy five era in the month
of July has the player option. So hey, giants, you
can get what you want. You got some production out
of him, but now you can flip him. And now

(33:20):
it's just coming to terms.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
They will, they will, whether it's a they eat a
little bit of money, depending on the prospect they want back.
But I'm sure they're realizing, oh man, boy, Blake Snell
not in the contract here? Really not great? I understand, well.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
Kind of in a contract yere so got great again?
See how that worked?

Speaker 6 (33:40):
Right?

Speaker 1 (33:41):
During a couple of starts before the deadline, A couple
of starts here, I was for a like he's been unhittable,
Yeah for the last month. Fifteen strikeouts this last time out.
Uh So, we'll let more on this as trades come in,
but right now it's time to play the greatest new
radio game there possibly is.

Speaker 3 (33:58):
No, it's not the match John's Twitter game. It's got
updated music too.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
It might be even better. A game we're gonna play
at least once a week because we're gonna get a
press conference from this guy once a week and they're
all legendary. The game is Did Jim Harbass say this today?
Pretty easy?

Speaker 5 (34:18):
That's good? Not so much.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
Just justin Frostburg, our producer produces the Chargers games. Jim
Harbaugh has been the greatest head coach, a breath of
fresh air with the Chargers. So far, he's unbelievable. So
playing this game myself, Mike Harmon, Steve Desager, Alex Tischer,
Are you ready?

Speaker 5 (34:37):
Let's go?

Speaker 1 (34:38):
This is only today's comments. Yes, this is today. That's
what's the name of the game. Did Jim Harbor you
may this today? There's enough to do this every night? Well,
we don't want to, you know, you know, too much
of a good thing. Okay, it's like when an ABC
but who wants to be a millionaire on every night,
very night?

Speaker 5 (34:52):
A little bit too much?

Speaker 3 (34:53):
Soon as Regis was on four nights a week, he
was a little tired by Thursday.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
So is this something Jim Harbaugh said today or is
this made up by Justin frost Burg? Frostburg, take it away.

Speaker 4 (35:01):
Did the greatest head coach ever say this today? I
don't think Vincelandbardi is talking. That's a story that would
be a story offensive. Lineman, we look at as weapons.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
Oh yeah, sure, yeah, that's that's that's that's a pretty
easy one. I think you started us off easy. I
think I think that's Harbord tight shirt.

Speaker 8 (35:24):
I'm gonna say no, he doesn't sound like you'd be
that lucrative.

Speaker 1 (35:26):
So you're just going against because all of us said yes, yeah, exactly.
So you're gonna you're gonna wind up starting You're gonna
be a deficit. I'm gonna be the right one. Okay,
he's opposite George. Yes, all right, Justin you guys lost
a tight shirt?

Speaker 5 (35:40):
What today?

Speaker 7 (35:44):
Alright?

Speaker 5 (35:45):
Because I know, because I know that's a hallmark of
the Jim Harbor he.

Speaker 1 (35:49):
Said, But he didn't say it today. Correct. Oh no,
that's that's dirty. We're just starting.

Speaker 9 (35:54):
Did Jim Harbaugh say this today? That's dirty? Dirty, that's
dirty that.

Speaker 4 (36:02):
The next quote is going to be yes, I will
have fries with that. But did he say it today?

Speaker 5 (36:08):
Well played Prostburg.

Speaker 8 (36:10):
All right, animal, Hey Jason, what's the score?

Speaker 7 (36:13):
I know.

Speaker 1 (36:15):
This is under protest. We are looking right now. That
was an unfair question.

Speaker 8 (36:17):
You guys got a point over there, Steve, A fair question.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
Hey, I'm sexy as hell.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
I'll give Tyshir three points. Who's Jimbarba the coach for
currently or was currently or was well?

Speaker 8 (36:30):
I liked him at Michigan right now at the Chargers, Wow, wow,
took the forty nine.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
Ers pretty far too.

Speaker 3 (36:35):
Okay, here sitting there, he's got the whole cares, but
it's got the middle finger extended.

Speaker 8 (36:43):
But just don't get me started with San Diego. Okay, okay, sure,
University of San Diego. Yeah, all right, justin what's the
next one?

Speaker 9 (36:52):
A cool fun game I like to play called Red
Zone Walkout was the last word, red Zone lock cohol
fun game I like to play called red Zone Lockout.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
Now. That reminds me of whenever I'm playing Free Cell
and I get Zoe Perry from Young Sheldon saying, let
me tell you about a game I love called Royal
match Boy. It's free, you don't get any ads for it.
I play it all the time because I sit through
the ads to get more coins through all the ads.
I will say yes, I say yes, that's a that's
a game Harball likes to play.

Speaker 5 (37:25):
Get on board that.

Speaker 1 (37:26):
Sure, So that's a no from Tysher's.

Speaker 8 (37:29):
Up to is actually, see Steve, I'd like to stay
in the lead. So I'm gonna say yes as well.
Guys don't know this, but I watched the pressers, so
jos you you are all correct. He did say that
to that. All right, all right, I'm going last. Ever,
it sounds like a good game.

Speaker 7 (37:45):
Justin.

Speaker 1 (37:46):
Do you have the rules of that game? Comprehensive? How
to play it? Is another thing he goes every time,
No wonder. Okay, we'll make him go first this time.
All right, go ahead, justin now.

Speaker 9 (37:55):
The analogy of a rocket taking off then before you
know it, boom.

Speaker 8 (38:03):
All right, Tischer, Wait a minute, I'm not going first.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
No, you are going.

Speaker 8 (38:08):
I watched the presser, so I can't give the answers.

Speaker 1 (38:11):
What did you watch the presser on? What? What station?

Speaker 7 (38:14):
Was it?

Speaker 1 (38:14):
On station? Online? You watch you watch the press Jim
Harbaugh's press conference online and on Day Today on YouTube.
He says, you haven't watched a football game in your life?
That you watch Jim Harbaugh's Prescott I.

Speaker 9 (38:28):
Was interested, all right, Tycher can't knows greatness when he
sees its.

Speaker 5 (38:33):
Great philosophers of our time.

Speaker 9 (38:35):
All right, give you the quote again, justin the analogy
of a rocket taking off, then before you know.

Speaker 1 (38:41):
It, boom. I can absolutely see him saying that.

Speaker 3 (38:46):
In other words, he doesn't give you the full analogy references.

Speaker 5 (38:48):
So it's kind of.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
Like a magic Johnson tweet A little bit. I can't
get it. I think he made a point in his
head about a rocket and saw a rocket and then
boom at the takeoffs.

Speaker 5 (39:01):
Yeah, and then he said and boom and then all
of a sudden boom.

Speaker 6 (39:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (39:05):
Sure, yeah, Oh you guys are lucky, it is.

Speaker 1 (39:07):
Yes, how do you know I watched the presser? Then
why are you playing? Because that's the point justin he
did say that today. Yeah, he likes winning.

Speaker 5 (39:17):
All right.

Speaker 1 (39:17):
Tist's now alimited. He's officially limited. He can't play. Hey, listen,
Canada soccer can't fly drones over close practices.

Speaker 8 (39:25):
Everybody, were the signs?

Speaker 1 (39:26):
Do you and for a year it's a close They
didn't say anything.

Speaker 3 (39:30):
Cheter, You're deducted six points, all right, get back your
gold medal.

Speaker 9 (39:34):
One more, justin one more, melt it down, a piece
of advice. If I may watch the Ted Lasso show.

Speaker 1 (39:43):
Oh wow was his kind of show, So absolutely I
would say yes. I don't know if that was today,
but yes, maybe they go out and goes. He subscribed
to rom Communism, Go get Zava. Yeah, okay, all right,
yes we're all Steve, yeah right, just not today. So no, oh,
he didn't say that today. He did not say that today.
Oh come on, that's catch you on later, repeppy.

Speaker 7 (40:11):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (40:11):
Coming up next, we have what is easily the most
interesting football story of the week. This is Fox Sports Radio.
