Now, you don't.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Deserve this tight show because you've worked like like four
days this summer. But what do you mean, tell you
something pretty funny before we get bus this week. I
worked three days this week. Exhausted, I've worked three days. Hey,
we'll get to Jerry Jones in a second. So tonight, uh,
Pam and Zoe went to a local concert near where
(01:16):
we lived.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
There was a local band, like in the neighborhood they're in.
They're in a band.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
There's a bunch of bunch of people in different families
and they're in concert.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
And it's like, oh, that's pretty cool. All that's pretty cool.
So they go.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
It's people we know, we've met a few times. We're
all like in their forties and fifties. They just play
this in kind of fun. I'm like, okay, great, what
did they play? I said, well, they play a bunch of.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Different rock covers. Okay they do, right, It's.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Okay, cool, some nickelback. So no, this is no name buit.
No no, no, no, no, it's even worse.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
So worse.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
I'm like, hey, send me some I want to see
what it looks like, because obviously I can't go and
make up and masks.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
It's really weird to do do do two story house.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
It's like when it's like when Tom Cruse shows up
at that house in eyes Wide Shut. So they're there, well,
it's actually outdoors, so they're there, and and I'm like, okay, great,
And I get a text from Pam that just says
Zoey wanted me to send you this. I'm like, oh,
and I see it's a shot of the band and
I press playing. I'm listening and here you go. Hang on,
let me see hang on so you can hear.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
It, wait for it. Here it is. That's amazing.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
So because it was Tears for Fears and flipping you
off is at the end of the no, I'm like, oh,
what song are they? Like are they doing? Because we
went to one local concert not too long ago where
a group of kids played like they were like twelve
years old and they're playing Highway Star and and I'm like,
oh man, this is fantastic. Now, like, is this what
(02:46):
I'm getting? No, No, they're doing They're doing Tears for Fears.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
That's great. Thanks a lot.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Your daughter loves you. Yeah, I know as much as
your dad. How's Walter see and Pam even knows. At
this point, Zoey wanted me to send this to you.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
He can't be good. But that's just it. I mean,
have you have you done a check on your dad
and Fabiano? Yeah? No, my dad's okay, No, my dad's fine.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
I'm actually no, we're going to lunch tomorrow by I'm
aware all my met stuff and go, hey, look, second
best team in New York.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
That's gonna be my dad. Tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
You're gonna get a bunch of tails of the debauchery
from Syracuse Strip.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
I'll get tails into bauchery, and I'll get our bullpen
is just so tough.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
That's my dad. In other words, you just gotta talk
about the bullpen. You're not getting.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Health. The Yankees could get no hit five games a row.
He would say, our bullpen is terrible. It's just it's like,
no matter what, it's bullpen. Bullpen's terrible. Bullpen's terrible. That's
my dad.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
But I mean, look, we have a plethor up. Would
you say that is a pa pleanthera.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
We got to repeat to the Giants already. NFL Network
is running back the Lions and the Giants. But big
headlines today from Jerry and Dallas. And all I can
do is tell you this is who we told you
Jerry Jones was. This was the new Jerry Jones. It's
(04:09):
not my fault that people didn't want to listen. We
told you a long time ago when Jerry Jones said
all in and is all in meant or not spending
money on this year? And if we don't win, it's
gonna be a new Cowboys team next season. No extension
for Dak Prescott, no extension for Ceede Lamb, who has
now put on the reserve, did not report list as
(04:31):
he looks for his contract extension because he wants money,
because he's figuring Jerry Jones paid everybody for the last
twenty five years. Sorry, CD, you're gonna be the guy.
You're gonna be the first game he got paid and
they brought him back. I know, and now he's a
number one, number one, But we told that ric o'dowdell.
This is a new Jerry Jones who has said I'm
gonna be around a long time. I know I'm made,
(04:52):
but I'm gonna be around a long time. I don't
need to go for it one year everything. He has
realized that what he's done so far, this invention of
the Cowboys, is not good enough. And I'm telling you,
the last two playoff losses broke him. The led the
loss of the forty nine ers, the loss of the
Packers broke him with this team. So what he's done
and he's told you is that I'm all in on
(05:14):
this year. It means don't talk about anything else. Let's
worry about this season and then we see who we pay.
If Dak is great, he'll get sixty million. If Seedee
Lamb is great, he'll give him money. Okay, but we
need to win and we need to achieve. And for
all the pundits and fans like, ah, Jerry, come on, Jerry,
spend the money. Does we told you this is a
new Jerry Jones. It's not going to happen. He's not
(05:35):
going to suddenly cowtow and say here's money. Here's why
he's not going to do a deal that doesn't benefit
the Dallas cow But.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
I want to know what happened in the offseason from
the end of that playoff game as eight point three,
just where we talked about that, that's what happened.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
I want to.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Watch from that moment right as the final gun sounds,
forget about the Giants, forget about the Bears, just put
a home and cam on Jerry because I want to
know his thought process through all of this, because it's
it's a one eighty from anything he's ever done any star.
I mean, we talk about, you know, bowing to the
(06:13):
altar of the you know, the top players of your team,
and loyalty and to the coaches and everything that he's
done through all these years.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
I mean, this is a full on heel turn.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
Related to that, he's like, he was a way, here's money, Hey,
I love you, stick around, we want to keep you
here forever.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
And then this year and all he's he's been antagonistic. No,
it's great.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
It was shocking heel turn, but we told you this
is the new Jerry Jones. Listen to him talk. He's
telling you no one should be surprised. Not my fault.
People don't listen and see what's going on. He has said,
I'm all in on this year. I don't feel a
need to go crazy. Uh, don't think of me as
someone that's gonna go for it. Everything like those two
(06:56):
playoff losses broke him. The first law to the forty
nine Ers when Dak was terrible broke him. The Jordan
Love perfect quarterback ranning blow loss of the Packers broke
him with this version of the caliber.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Forty nine ers.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
You just needed one play, and it's like play to me.
Even your defense showed up, but the offense highly powerful,
all season long shut down.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
If they don't win this year, and they're not because
they didn't do anything to get better it's going to
be new head coach, new quarterback, knew everything in Dallas.
Next year, it's going to be a new everything. And
Jerry Jones is not going to suddenly change and crumble
and say, Okay, here's money that we probably shouldn't give away.
Here he is from earlier today, asked about CD Lamb's
contract extension, that he's looking for. Ceedee Lamb not at practice,
(07:40):
not with the team, he's on the reserve, did not
report list. And here's Jerry Jones's answer about Ceedee Lamb
wanting a new contract.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
I went to say, what.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
The sense heard.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
I don't have a sense of urgency about it. CD
Lamb saw that quote tweeted it with an lol.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
Yeah all right.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
Prescott later than joked about it quote. I can tell
you I got a lot. I got a sense of
urgency for this.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
I want to make sixty million a year, and I'm
not making sixty million if I don't have CD this year,
because I'm not throwing thirty five touchdowns if I don't
have CD Lamb. Look now, it's it's combative, and it's antagonistic.
And now a line is drawn in the sand, and
Jerry Jones has said, I'm not gonna capitulate. I'm not
gonna suddenly count tell it, say okay, here's the money,
(08:32):
here's the money, because look at how all the other
the other reactions and conversations went, hey, we're talking. Everything
is okay. I know Ezekiel Elliott didn't report when he
wanted the money a few years ago. It's okay, it's okay,
it's okay. That's not how Jerry Jones is talking now.
It is a different Jerry Jones for this season. He
is sticking to his guns. He's not going to give
(08:53):
CD Lamb a big contract extension. He's not going to
sign Dak Prescott. What's gonna wind up happening is it's
going to get it's so late in camp and Jerry
Joes will say, okay, CD, we'll give you a little
bit more money for this year. That's as best as
I'm gonna do. Take it or leave it. That's how
this is gonna wind up getting solved. I'm not gonna
give you anything past this year, but i will give
you more money for this year.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
What do you want?
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Five million more, seven million more, whatever it's gonna be.
They have money in the cap. No, they did it,
they got do it.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
And this goes back to San Francisco's out right, there's
still ways for these things to sort themselves out.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Absolutely, it's fun. He's got money there.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
That's how this is gonna wind up getting sorted out
and ceedee, Lamb's gonna know, well, I can't not play,
but I'll get this extra money this year, and then
the offseason will come and then whatever that's gonna be.
And that's how the Cowboys will then focus and be
all in. Continued on twenty twenty four.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
Plenty of suitors.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
Otherwise you get the the dreaded franchise tag and you
move from there. But look at what they did this
past year, right, all of the things they didn't do
in terms of improvement. And a guy that they had
touched the ball three hundred times last year, they let
him walk. Right, Tony Pollard wasn't great, Okay, let's let's
call it what a like. He was better when it
(10:01):
was the earlier version, the guy, secondary guy with him
right change of pace, back good out of the backfield
as a receiver, became the guy and really just became
a jag. And now he's gone. But then you bring
back Ezekiel Elliott, the guy that you had handed mountains
of cash to underperformed, and now he's back to your
(10:23):
number one. All things old are new again, but all
of the other moves that you didn't do, the money
you didn't spend, and Micah Parsons still sitting out there
as well. So I mean, you've got all of this swirling,
and your three best players are in limbo, and your
head coach is a guy that you don't know if
he's getting you beyond one inch beyond the B point
(10:44):
on the A two C trail.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
What's gonna be fascinating, okay, is watching how the Cowboys
attack the beginning of this season, because you will know
right away are the Cowboys players all in or are
they just done? Like, is Dak Prescott really gonna go
out to have the best season he's had as a
quarterback so he can get paid or does he know? Eh,
even in the down year, I'm gonna get sixty million dollars. Okay,
(11:09):
is Ceedee Lamb gonna say, yeah, I'm gonna go all
out everything I can to have a great year, or eh,
I got the extra money here, someone else is gonna
give me cash. I'll go there. Micah Parson's the same way.
He wants to, Eh, how are they going to attack
the season? Because it can get ugly and sideways real early.
This isn't gonna be something where, oh if they fall it, No,
this is something where this could be a storyline September first,
(11:32):
September seventh, September tenth, September fifteenth. It can happen really
early because there's not a lot of great vibes going
on in Cowboys camp right now. Everything coming out of
it is well, Dak wants a contract, he's not happy.
Ceedee Lamb's out there, he's not happy. Jerry Jones didn't
spend money. No one's happy. No one knows the direction
of the team. Mike McCarthy is wondering, do I have
more than this year? I have won twelve games a
(11:52):
last year. Do you I have more?
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Do I not?
Speaker 1 (11:54):
There is no sense of, hey, we're all in it
for this season, at least with the Jets. When there's
a bit of hey, is Aaron Rodgers and Robert Sala
on the same page as there was a discrepancy today
because they held Aaron Rodgers out of the joint practice
because the field was wet at least I know. Hey,
they're all on the same page for the season, and
it's Aaron Rodgers save us. I don't know the Cowboys
are on the same page. And then I'm telling this
(12:16):
could be September one. This could get incredibly ugly and
sideways right away.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
Yeah, I'm waiting for another nine big thought piece articles
of how Micah Parsons is dominating the Cowboys offense in camp,
because that's really all you've gotten. Hey, look at what
he's doing. Doesn't matter. He's not playing that. He plays
them every day. He knows their tendencies, he knows what's coming. Great,
he's dominating. Where was he? Hey, the offense stinks? How
(12:43):
do we spend that? The defense is great, dominating, absolutely dominant.
Look at the dominant in Chicago with Kayla Williams.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
All Right, the.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
First week of the year. Who do the Cowboys open
up with their entice shirts? Favorite city in the United States?
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Right, they're on the road at Cleveland, tysher, that was
your chance to play the Cleveland I'm taking a fire
test in here.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
Come on, what's more important, Jason, your safety or Cleveland.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
Listen, I understand all of us have to take compliance
tests on shine that.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
Yeah, I'm done with mine. How often do they respond
to fires? Every nineteen second? Thank you? Did you not
know what I gave you the answer for the quiz?
I just didn't watch the video. I'm trying to take
the quiz.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
We often do compliance training for fire safety, earthquake safety,
building safety, and Tysher has decided, Oh, while I'm at
work doing a show, I'm gonna take the quiz. Not
just off time when you show, you know, no, no, no,
while I'm doing the show, I'm.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Gonna take that quiz.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
I did the greatest alley loop to cross sports ever, right,
I was Darius Garland in that moment, lobbing it up
to Jared Allen or whoever, and instead it was an
Aaron throw.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
But you like how I remember that nineteenth That was
pretty nineteen seconds, pretty thank you. You're welcome now I
know that for the quiz. Couldn't play drop all right?
Speaker 4 (13:58):
Then they played New Orleans Baltimore at home, back to
back at the Giants at Pittsburgh and Detroit, and then
they've got to buy So what are we looking at?
Speaker 3 (14:09):
Two and four, three and three.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
It could get It could be even worse. Than that,
and then they come out and they get San Francisco even.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
Worse than that. We will know. You will know week
one what kind of team you're going to get.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
If the team is all in and you watch, Daniel
Jones will dominate them as well. So it's all over.
They did beat them forty nothing last year, so there
is that. Well, I mean, look, you're saying, there's a chance.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Told you it's a new Jerry Jones. This is a
new not my fault, you didn't listen, but it's a
new I still just want to know what happened, Like,
let's see the actual war fifty eight point three for
Jordan Love. But that moment Prescott, the moment of clarity.
We didn't see it in the booth.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
I gotta leave, I gotta I can't stay for this.
I gotta go home. Something else. I got a court.
Something in court's gonna become or is he now?
Speaker 4 (14:54):
Steven's puppet? I gotta go and Steve's the captain now
and he's just the mouth beats. Exit Up, Fresca, Exit,

Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Now they're banging each other real Opening Night in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
Will have more football coming up in a bit, but
nothing better than what we saw today. Semifinal game at
the Olympics. The United States down seventy five points in
the fourth quarter to Serbia comes from behind to win.
It's Lebron, It's Steph, It's KD. It was an awesome
thing to watch. Now will they have enough for France?
(17:05):
I was worried about France in twenty twenty eight, Now
you're worried about France in twenty twenty four. Just a
couple of days with us now the hotline to break
it all down. Longtime NBA insider Mark Stein is with us.
You can check them out at the Steinline. That is,
at the Steinline. Longtime friend of the show, Mark, What's happening.
Were you yelling at your television like I was earlier
today late.
Speaker 7 (17:23):
In the fourth quarter, I was not yelling, but definitely enthralled.
Today was start to finish awesome. France Germany was a
great game too. Really, just if you love hoops, this
was a very very nice August surprise and treat to
get this kind of to get the kind of hoop
(17:44):
we got today.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
It was an unreal ending to the game. And you
saw Steve Kerr stick with the look. You had the
right guys out there in the fourth quarter, and it
was really something to watch.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
What did you see difference in them in Team USA?
Third quarter of the fourth quarter?
Speaker 7 (18:00):
With this group, and really with any Team USA, it's
almost always going to be defense. And I was stunned
how bad the defense was in the first three quarters.
I didn't think this team needed another wake up call
after everything that happened during the exhibition season when they
played five games without Durant and almost lost the South
(18:23):
Stand and almost lost to Germany. But you know, we've
been praising this group and reveling and how well they've
been playing, and you know, they really were through the
first four games, looked like they totally had it together
and then today because I didn't think no, I know,
there was this school of thought that and maybe Serbia's whole.
(18:45):
Maybe they held back their a game. Maybe they have
a bunch of secret tactical stuff that they're going to
unveil in the third meeting after losing to the United
States on July eighteenth and in an exhibition game and
then July twenty eighth in the team's Olympic opener, and
I'm like, no chance, no way, this team is the
Americans are too dialed in. They don't it's you know,
(19:07):
Serbia to not you know, prove the adage that it's
really tough to beat a team three times. And you
know what they every ounce of what they did, you
know they that was a true total scare that they
gave the United States and and legit, legit could.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
Have won knock down, drag out fight, oh for nine
from three point range. Does Carmelo Anthony get a medal
for taking them out of the game mentally in the
fourth they seem more concerned about him at times.
Speaker 8 (19:42):
I don't think he gets a medal, but he still
has he still though he does have the single game
Olympic scoring record for the United States by a point
because Steph only had thirty six, Mellow once had thirty seven.
Speaker 7 (19:56):
But man, did the US.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
Need every bit of a Yeah they did.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
I think Milo was yelling, don't pass it to stuff,
don't pass it the stuff somebody else, somebody else.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
You know.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
One of the things that you know, you watch the
way they close it out, and I was really curious saying, okay,
in the fourth quarter defensively, what is Steve kerg gonna
do is you're gonna go with the young players. Nobody
goes with the older players who close it out and
you see the energy they still have. And to watch
lebron as steff as something. But I'll tell you what
Mark I mean. Look, I mean, I know the NBA
has been playing for well over one hundred years, but
(20:28):
I can't believe there is anybody in the history of
the game that can hit a mid range jumper better
than Kevin Durant. What he's done throughout his career, just
ice Water every single time they need a hoops.
Speaker 7 (20:38):
They was scoreless at halftime. Like I said, today, was
such nothing went the script. I've been a huge fan
of what Germany has done the last couple of years,
and I really thought they were going to beat France today.
And you know, France was absolutely the most dis pointing
(21:00):
team in the tournament through group play. You know, they
beat Japan, they needed hat to Mura to foul out
the four point play. You know, then Germany really pounded
them when the teams met in group play. And I
just think Germany is the second best team in the
world with the group they have, and they've been together
(21:22):
for three years now. And you know, France draws Canada
and in the quarterfinals, and that was the worst draw
that France could have had, most likely for the quarterfinals.
But what saved them it was a chance to completely
turn things around. And you have to give them credit
they have they did, and now with the home court
advantage they have with their fans, with all the venom
(21:45):
that's going to becoming Joe l Embiid's way, it's going
to be fascinating to see what happens in this gold
medal game. I thought United States Germany could be the
best possible gold medal game we get in terms of
basketball quality. But because of all the tension and the
home court advantage that the US is now going to
(22:05):
have to deal with. I mean, I think Saturday is
going to be it's must see TV to me.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
Yeah, I think one of the gears you mentioned Embiid
and that subplot, and then he had the game where
he's dominated for a stress like all right, Joel Embiid
is carrying us because he wants France. And then there's
a couple of players like wait now he's playing the
other side. What's going on here? But all in all,
a huge spot for him, and you know on Spotlight
(22:34):
on Saturday.
Speaker 7 (22:36):
Yeah, and look, he's taken so much heat for how
he's played, his conditioning, how he looked, and you know,
he he was. They don't win the game today without him.
I mean lebron kd Deaf, Curry, Embiid, all these guys
made massive contributions. And I mean, you know you could
see Embiid after the final buzzer. He's been public enemy
(23:00):
number one over there and he was bringing it on,
waving it on, and he is going to he's gonna
get uh, you know even you know he's not popular
with the with all of Jason's friends at the Garden,
But I think I think what's in store for him
Saturday night in Paris is going to be even louder
(23:21):
and even more venomous, and it's going to be interesting
to kind of see how the United States reacts in
that situation. But I have to say, you know, France's
weakness is in the backcourt, and the United States just
has so many good defenders if they like again, I
can't explain where the defense was for three quarters today.
I mean it was it was such a step back.
(23:41):
And again, like I, like I said, I didn't expect it.
I thought, I really thought the US because the way
these always these tournaments tend to work, you know, the
United States usually gets stronger as it goes because they've
been together for a month at least, you know, this
team was thrown together, but at least now they've been
together a month and chi and so kind of the
(24:02):
step back they took today, I wasn't expecting that. But
you also have to give Serbia tons of credit. I mean,
they shot the heck out of it for three quarters
and and you know they you know, they played a
near perfect game, but you know, near perfect isn't quite
enough against these guys, you.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
Know, Mark watching And I could say the one thing
for the United States, like you give Serbia all the credit.
They had the big lead, and yes they hit that
they were unconscoed from behind three point range, but I
really thought the United States they should have pushed the
pace more, especially offensively in transition, like this is a
big advantage for US. This is NBA ball where we're
up the court and before you can settle, the ball
(24:38):
goes around and here's steph for a wide open three.
Speaker 7 (24:41):
Usually that stems from defense. And that's why again, like
when the United States is locked in defensively and applying
pressure and turning teams over, like their athleticism should overwhelm
whoever they're coming up against. And that is what I expected,
because you know they and they've been building up this
(25:02):
head of steams and you know they certainly knew Serbia
inside and out having played them twice, so you know,
today was it was a dramatic step back for three quarters.
But again, it just shows the firepower and ceiling of
this team that you know, they were down fifteen, and
the swiftness with which they could erase a deficit like that.
(25:25):
And you know what, I honestly though, I think what
it also like, knockout basketball is so good to have true,
one and done. Anything could happen in a single game.
And this is why I'm such a critic of the
n season Tournament, because the nd season Tournament is not
yet a tournament. It only gets like that in the
(25:46):
semis and finals. Sixty of the sixty seven games are
just regular season games that are counted twice. I mean,
you see today what it's like you when you literally
can just be knocked out of a tournament on a
bad day, And we don't have that in the NBA.
Obviously that's the hallmark of college basketball, but it's something
fun and different that we're not used to seeing this.
(26:07):
We're not used to seeing these NBA superstars in this
position and facing this kind of danger and knowing, oh
my god, it's the fourth quarter. We're down fifteen. We
are on the brink of embarrassment.
Speaker 5 (26:20):
Shame.
Speaker 7 (26:21):
I mean, so, I just I think you're seeing the
virtues of true tournament basketball.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Mark.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
I gotta say, the one thing I do enjoy is
on a possession of possession basis, I have no idea
how the officials are going to call anything.
Speaker 7 (26:37):
You enjoy that well, it.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
Just keeps me on the edge of my seat because
I don't know when the foul calls coming. I don't
know if they're going to call it like Gaelic football,
where you dribble once every five step.
Speaker 7 (26:47):
The officiating, the afficiating in Feba can be a little inconsistent.
We're going to play charitably, nicely done, bro. I don't
want to get too hung up on this, but let's
I mean, you know, that's another thing you're gonna have
to deal with. With France playing at home, how's that
game going to be called? So there's there's still a
lot of work to do for the United States to
(27:08):
get a fifth straight gold medal.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
He's on Twitter at the steinline. That is, at the steinline,
Mark Stein, as always, Buddy, appreciated.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
Enjoy the games this weekend. We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 7 (27:19):
Sounds good to be good.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
I like it just because it's a moving target like
possession and possession. All right, that guy got written down
in the lane. That's okay, that's a double dribble.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
Wow, No, okay, okay, all right, that's a trout.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
Okay. He looked like he was busting through the b gap.
I don't know, but I'm telling you, look, we said
at the start of the show.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
I can't wait to see what the officiating is like
for this game on Saturday, because you've seen how the
officials bailed France out earlier in the tournament now and
look a.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Bit earlier today too.
Speaker 7 (27:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
But look, and also from the from the white white
angle perspective of it is that why does the host city,
the host country always have their best medal take when
they're the host city? Right, Like, like France has more
medals now than they've had in any other Summer Olympics ever,
And you go back, look, China has more medals now
and they have it in Beijing, and you see it,
(28:15):
which means in twenty twenty eight, let's go, we're gonna
have all the medals. But you think that's part that's
something now, but this gets outside of it's not just basketball.
It's boy, how does France have all of these medals
when they don't normally get that many? I mean, it's
a thing. And if you think it's gonna be, you're
gonna see touch fowls. You're gonna see evidence. Got just why,
(28:37):
Like there was there was a there was a sequence
late in the fourth quarter when when Embiide got to
the free throw line, and I said, okay, there was
absolutely no contact. How did Ebide get to the free
throw line? And then I watched down down low when
the ball goes into Yokic and the I don't even
think he had the ball whistle like, wait, you didn't
even get touched.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
He didn't have the ball. It's so insane.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
But I'm telling you, when it's France, and it's France
playing at home for the gold medal, and they got
some dudes that can hit shots, and you know, maybe
it's a wembye game, maybe it's an Evan forty eight game.
You know, when they got guys get it threes the
way there, watch out, watch out. I can't wait to see.
I'm telling you, the United States, they should fly in.
They should fly in. Scott Foster saying, we want at
(29:18):
least one of our guys on. There's one representation. One
of our guys doesn't need to be the main official,
but we need Scott Foster on this case right now.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
And then you had five miss free throws for the
US almost became an issue for him down the stretch.
Crazy time now to find out what's trending in the
wide world of sports and Look, there is nothing bigger
today than watching Pete Alonzo with two home runs in
the Mets get back into wildcard position. Steve de Seger
has more on that with What's Trending.
Speaker 9 (29:45):
Don't forget six and one, David Peterson getting the win.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
Yes, Denver native David Peterson getting just she were on
the same wavelength, and the White Sox fired their manager.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
So there you go. So there's this tonight's show in
a nutshell for.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
The two of you right there.
Speaker 9 (29:59):
That's nine at Colorado. And yes, the White Sox fired
manager Pedro Grifold. But by the way I hear in basketball,
is what you're predicting for Saturday, is that Anthony Davis
fouls out in twelve minutes.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
I think that's what I heard. I think you're being
I think you're being generous.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
I think the first he's in the bench in the
first three minutes with four fouls, and then he hasn't
come back in until the end.
Speaker 9 (30:18):
Well, US today against Serbia was down seventeen in the
second quarter, down by fifteen points late in the third,
but the Americans with the comeback win ninety five ninety
one to advance to Saturday's Olympic gold medal game against
host France, which won its close semifinal over Germany seventy
three to sixty nine. Lebron James a triple double today.
(30:39):
Joel mb nineteen points, but Steph Curry at thirty six
points out of the ninety five was the star. From
three point range, he was nine of fourteen. The US
led for less than three and a half minutes in
this game, but advance. The team overall shot fifty seven
percent from the floor. Here there were down forty two
(31:01):
to twenty five in the first half, got within sixty
seven to sixty one in the third, fell behind again,
but the fourth quarter defense you referenced it first hour
Serbia three point range after three quarters was fifteen of
thirty in the fourth quarter. Ozho of nine from long distance.
Curry had a great start to the game seventeen points
first quarter, thirty six in the US coach Steve Kirk
(31:23):
called it one of the greatest basketball games I've ever been.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
A part of.
Speaker 9 (31:27):
Sidney McLoughlin Lavaroni won the gold again in the four
hundred hurdles. Noah Lyles finished third in the two hundred
meter final. He tested positive for COVID this week and
will miss tomorrow's relay. US women's volleyball won its semi
final in five sets over Brazil. Two lackluster NFL exhibitions,
New England seventeen to three over Carolina. Giants beat Detroit
fourteen to three. Two late games in Major League Baseball
(31:50):
to the ninth at Seattle, Tigers lead the Mariners three
to one, Just three it's for Seattle. Seventh inning stretch
at Arizona, Phillies ahead of the Diamondbacks five to three.
Ten inning wins for the Red and Giants, losses for
both the Orioles and Yankees. Padres won their fifth in
a row, seven to six at Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O.

Speaker 7 (33:28):

Speaker 3 (33:28):
Really? Yeah? Wow? Now you got to see the next two?
There's two more? Yeah? Yeah, The third one's a pretty
big deal. How do you keep playing that bit? Though?
Speaker 1 (33:38):
Well, you just do it every few years. It's not
like you come back with a net.
Speaker 4 (33:42):
You do what every you don't have to do it
twenty two episodes, like, uh yeah, television whatever.
Speaker 5 (33:47):
It kind of just seemed like Van Wilder with a suit,
which it was literally the role of Van Wilder, but
just as a superhero.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
May or may not be referenced in Yeah. Maybe nothing
to do with college. No, no it does not.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
I can do that too, the proposal or Tarry Reid.
Yeah no, Terry Read's not it. No, no, no, Terry
is not either that or they haven't disclosed it. Oh
like like she could have been deadpooled.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Pretty Sharknado seven got her? Oh yo, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
Pour one out for Tara reidm poor it's you know,
and hey, let's pour one out for Nick Foles. Super
Bowl champion announced he is retiring from the NFL, retiring
as an Eagle.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
Well, I mean where else?
Speaker 1 (34:37):
Yeah, of course he will be feated feted, feated fated.
Early in the season, uh talked about the great ride
it was walking away from the NFL, And I'll tell
you what first thing when I saw nick Foles's name.
I will always now think of Ted Danson going fall
in in the good place. Du Blake Bortles. We don't
(34:58):
have Blake Bortles. We nick Foles instead. He won the
Super Bowl. Full Nick Foles has one of the most
complicated legacies of any quarterback, because anybody that's won a
super Bowl like he has, you have a complicated legacy.
You had a twenty thirteen season which comes out of
nowhere for Chip Kelly in Philadelphia, where you throw twenty
(35:22):
eight touchdowns and two picks, and it's, oh my, this
guy's a super second.
Speaker 4 (35:26):
Your guy got Kelly played about half of the first season,
and Kelly was a genius three.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
And Chip Kelly's got. You gotta keep him forever.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
His system works, and then he bounces around the league,
and then he comes and he wins the super Bowl,
comes into the playoffs, and the twenty seventeen season plays
great beats Brady in the super Bowl, the Philly Special.
And yet that was Nick Foles' career For a guy
that obviously has the talent to come up with a
career that's just you could never really seize the starting
(35:59):
quarter back job and keep it is baffling to me,
and I'll tell you. I go back and I think,
I really do think it's sometimes with quarterbacks about preparedness
and how you feel when you're the guy, how comfortable
you feel playing. And look at all the times Nick
Foles succeeded in his career.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
When was it. It was when it was a quick
change to hey, you're the starter.
Speaker 1 (36:19):
Doesn't have time to think about it, doesn't have time
to go through an off season of everything else. When
it's time, boom, you're the starter. Right when he takes
over in twenty thirteen, because Michael Vick was supposed to
be the guy, Nope, it's Nick Foles and he plays
all the way through his other great time twenty seventeen.
Hey what, nope, guess what, you're the guy. You're coming in.
Carson Wentz is hurt. We need you, and all of
a sudden they win and they go to the super Bowl.
(36:40):
When he comes in for the Bears in twenty twenty, Hey,
Mitchell Trubisky, Nope, it's going to be you.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
You're the guy. Anytime.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
It's a sort of hey, you don't have time to
think about being the starter. He was good, But look
at all the other times when was he bad, Whenever
a team would trade for him, saying you're going to
be our guy, whether it's Kansas City, whether it was Jacksonville,
Hey oh hey, Nick Foulk, we're gonna give you a
lot of money. And then he goes and he's terrible,
and he loses the job after a couple of weeks
and he can't hold onto it. I really wonder if
(37:07):
it's just when you throw me into play and I
don't think about it, and that's just week to week playing.
I'm fine, but this whole one, I'm in to be
the guy, and now you're building the offense around me,
expecting me to come in, and I have time in
the off season to think about it. I'm just not
as good. Nothing else makes sense because clearly he's got
the he had the talent.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
The entire scene guys where they've got those kind of spurs, right.
I mean, we've been talking a lot about Gardner. Minshew
talked about the quarterback battle for the Raiders yesterday. Canvi
one the podcast wherever you get your audio, download to
give it five stars, rate it, review it, evangelized, will
love you forever. But the same idea, right you can
get lightning in the bottle for a couple of weeks,
and then while there's tapes of his new tendencies and
(37:47):
where he's at as a quarterback in that frame, and
defensive coordinators catch up fast, and then we're back to,
all right, what's our other option? Is the other guy
healthy again? Has he learned sitting on the bench? Did
we find another quarterback somewhere else for Nick Foles? I mean,
that's a hell of a run off of one year Eagles,
(38:08):
Saint Louis, Kansas City, back to Philly Jaguar again for nothing.
Speaker 2 (38:15):
Well, but that's just it.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
Not BT No, no, no, you said, d is in David David? Yeah,
right exactly, That's what I means.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
The Bears and then finally the Colts career earnings. He
signed a big deal there. He signed a big deal there,
seventy million dollars eighty seven.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
Five million dollars. Wow.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Wow, that's maximizing an opportunity right there. He's a man
who was known. I mean the pole vaulter tried to
come into his world. Yeah, oh no, no, no, it
couldn't get but Nick Foles couldn't get there. I mean
he got him there he's got a statue in the
whole ninety yards. So yeah, I mean, just absolutely amazing
career in the longevity and yeah, all those missed opportunities
(39:05):
and false starts of all right, we're gonna figure it
out here and whatever they caught, they had that one moment,
and he has that one season that he'll trade on forever,
even in his goodbye message.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (39:17):
Right, but it's a hell of a run. You get
a decade in the NFL plus and eighty seven point
five million dollars when you're eighty two forty seven and
a sixty two point four percent completion percentage. Congratulations.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
I mean even his second year with the Eagles, but okay,
twenty eight and two with Okay, that's great.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
He was second year wasn't as good.
Speaker 1 (39:41):
It was like, oh, maybe Nick Foles isn't the guy
in the year went okay, the Rams got him.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
Now the Rams wanted to be the guy. Nope, Nope,
he was terrible.
Speaker 1 (39:47):
Like three teams said okay, you are our got you,
oh my number one guy, like they were Jack Pallinson that.
Speaker 4 (39:54):
I mean, to be fair, twenty fifteen, I mean that's
still Jeff Fisher, Right, You see what I had to
do there.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
It is it is still so I just got to put.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
That out there. It is it is still Jeff Fisher.
But wow.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
But you see, he had the talent and all the
chances he was given, no matter what team, he just
couldn't do it. When when you said you're the guy,
this is your team, Nick Foles is yeah, I'm not good.
But when it's just go do it. We got nobody else,
It's it's time get out there fast. Hey, I'm not
thinking about it, me doing You can do a master's
class on sports psychology. I feel like, what are we
(40:30):
talking about this ten weeks? Nick Foles, Nick Foles, Nick Fox.
Speaker 4 (40:34):
And then you'll find a couple of other outliers, guys
that maybe you know the Jeremy lid effect.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
Nick Foles's touchdown percentage in the second year of his
contract was eight point five, which led the NFL curiously
down to four point two the next year.
Speaker 3 (40:48):
These are numbers you will need to know for the
midterm and final exam. So there it is, Farewell BDN.
Coming up next, we get back to the biggest story
of the day. Oh and the White Sox have a
new manager too. This is Fox Sports radio
