Hello, Welcome inside final hour tonight the Jason Smith Show

An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended in sallers. Tirack dot Com
is the way tire buying should be. So we got
(00:53):
more on the opening, real opening night of the NFL.
Let's go cause the thing is, look, well, we'll have more.
Were not coming up because we had a big debut
that everybody was looking forward to tonight, and boy did
it go badly?
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Is that? You know?
Speaker 1 (01:06):
I look at the Hall of Fame game and I go, okay, yeah,
it's the first game. But there's pageantry associated with it.
It's the Hall of Fame. It's the extra game for everybody.
Now now that we get into give me a week
where hey, we got games going on. We got two
games tonight, we got three games tomorrow. Justin Fields will
win the quarterback job with the Steelers tomorrow night. We
have a bunch of everybody's playing their first game. Were
(01:27):
talking about that, No, I'm feeling this is when you
feel like, okay, now we're here Like that was just
like a hey, oh let's look, okay, I know what's coming. Okay,
great and then okay, now now we have football every
week from now until the end of the year.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
With the appetite.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Maybe it's a Frank the Tank, not your Frank the Tank,
the real one, not the overexposed guy. Frank the Tank
from old school. When you know he took that first
sip of beer and you know it tastes so good
when it hits the lips.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
That's football. That's football twenty twenty four. It's just beginning.
It's glorious.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
So we have more on that. We have the big
debut coming up in twenty minutes. And boy, if you
think the Cowboys aren't just riddled in controversy. Wait till
you hear what happened today, because my goodness, I like.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Chaos except for my team.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
And now that's kind of fun too, you know, because
if you're gonna fail, fail spectacular.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Yeah no, but that's why this is great because it's
not either of our teams.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
It's yeah, it's the cable to laugh and point in
some other team.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Okay, it's weird.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
It's weird because now, okay, but we'll have that coming
up yeah again in a few minutes. But weirdest story
of the day in the Olympics, and it's weird from
a couple of different angles. No Alyiles loses in the
two hundred meters after the big win the other day
and the hundred meters the photo finish the torso over.
Noah Liles finishes third, wins bronze, runs a pretty good
(02:54):
race but just gets caught from behind, wins the bronze.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Okay, I get it.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
He loses the right after the race is over, Officials
tend to him on the track. They put him in
a wheelchair, give him a mask, and NBC breaks the
news that two days ago, Noah Lyles was diagnosed with
COVID and he does the interview with a mask on,
gets taken off the track in a wheelchair. The wheelchair
(03:20):
at next level. Yeah, all right, So it was just
really weird. And I'm gonna call shenanigans on a couple
of things, a couple things I really can't believe happened.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
The first one is this COVID sucks.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Right, we know this, and we don't want to go
back to anything else COVID wise, but COVID still, people
still get it right.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
This should have been a story that was made a little.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Bit more public. And it makes me wonder how much
COVID has the Olympics been covering up because you got
a lot of people, a lot of athletes in a
lot of places in close quarters. How many guy like
is noell Iles the only guy to get COVID? Really,
when you get it and you're competing at an event,
(04:05):
especially if you're gonna go and you're gonna dap up
guys after and hug them.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Uh, I think you pretty.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Much need to let people know involving your race that
you have COVID, all right, because I can't believe that
it seems so irresponsible coming after the race suddenly NBC
like they knew this story because right away it's oh, hey,
Noahlliles had COVID two days ago, they knew all the facts,
Everything was out with this, Noah Lyles had COVID, and
(04:34):
so you know, they knew, and everybody knew except for
the people involved in the race, the fans, people watching.
And I think that's crappy. I think you want to
tell at least tell people, hey, Noahlliles has COVID. Not
that this means, hey, he can't race. You're outdoors, right,
you're outdoors. You can, you know, you certainly can continue
to compete. But just okay, don't go over and dap
(04:55):
anybody up after the race, don't hug anybody, don't come
over and breathe on me, because I don't want to
get COVID. Right, It's just a it should have been
something that at least was known. And again I don't
know if this means because hey, France wants to put
a lit on all COVID. We don't want to hear COVID.
We don't want to hear that word, right, I don't
want to hear that word at all. You say that
word here at the Olympics. No no, no, no no.
So it makes me wonder what else you know, how
(05:16):
many COVID tests are they hiding? But that's just the
courtesy you should give to the other competitors to let
them know. Hey, just so you know, Noah Lyles has COVID,
which means, don't walk around him in the locker room,
don't come over, don't let them hug you. You want
to know that, right, because it's the same It's the
same thing as if you invite me over to your
house to watch a game and I come over and
(05:40):
you don't tell me, and then after I go home,
you say, oh, hey, by after I hugged you hello,
and I hugged your wife hello, and you know, maybe
she whispered in my ear or something and they'll kind
of bit my ear like and after you.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Know, you hug somebody quick. Yeah, yeah, I did a thing.
I take it to the Lifetime movie.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
And after all that, and I hang out at your
house and I go home, and then you tell me
after I go home, oh, hey, hey, Greg coming over great?
Speaker 2 (06:07):
So and yeah it's great.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Oh hey, by the way, I tested positive for COVID
two days ago. Wait what And I came over your house,
and not only did you not tell me you hugged me,
you sat next to me. Your wife hugged me bit
in my ear.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
It was gonna goo. Uh. How do you not tell
me that?
Speaker 1 (06:23):
Not that I wouldn't still come over, Not that it
means I would, but I wouldn't come over and hug you.
Because Look, no matter how you feel about COVID, about
restrictions and mets and everything else, nobody wants to get
it right, nobody.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
This is not a political thing. Nobody wants to get COVID.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
So I'm really surprised that this is how this was
taken care of. Because if I'm a competitor in the
race and I go, wow, no one's looking out for
me at all? Here, right, Noah Lyles is here again,
the competition, the race itself. You're not getting COVID there,
But when you.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Want to go over.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Look, we talked to doctors on the show four years ago,
and this is going on. Hey, no one's worried about
the game. You're not getting COVID in again. What you're
worried about is if you're on the sideline or after
a game when you see somebody from the other team
and you hug them and you're talking to them in
close quarters for a few that's when you get it like,
that's what, that's what. I can't believe they didn't tell
them and I don't And again I say, I don't
(07:14):
know again because this is there's so much we don't
know about the story. But I don't know if they,
if the Olympic committee, if they were afraid that if
we let it slip that Noah Liles has COVID. This
guy's a big threat. He already won one hundred meters.
He's a favorite to win this one. That a lot
of competitors are going to say, we don't want him.
We don't want him because I want to get a chance,
better chance to win the gold medal.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
I don't want him. I to want him.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
And suddenly Noah Liles has to sit out of the
two hundred meters. But you're the Olympics. You can make
a wide ranging, unilateral decisions. You can say we just
wanted to let you know NOELH. Liles has COVID, he
feels good about competing, He's going to compete, just so
you know you don't have to hug him or dap
him up or shake hands with them or anything else.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Maybe you just want to keep your distance while you're
on the track.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Yeah, I saw a quote from a guy from Botswana
participated said, well, we knew he was going through some
that on Wednesday, not in his best shapes, going through something.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Reporter told him how he's got COVID. Oh who said that?
And he goes, oh Lyles did because oh, I don't
think he.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Put it anybody at risk? Is the way that ended.
Kenny Binnarek, who finished he got the silver in the
two hundred. From what I heard, he's got something that
went on. So I don't know what's really going on
with him. I'll probably talk to him after this see
if he's okay, which I hope so. But yeah, I
don't know. I'm kind of out of the loop. He
hugged him, right, didn't. He said, I'm healthy. I do
everything I can to make sure my body's healthy. There
(08:33):
was a message that came out that said there was
something going around, but I haven't seen it. Quote last one.
I guess I'm carefree.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
So some of it is Olympic Village and the healthiest people, right,
you know?
Speaker 2 (08:49):
With Lyles, it's the question.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
Look, because he came out with the statement a couple
of days ago talking about his mental health, talking about
all these things, talking about his allergies and being asthmatic.
So add all that up ad covid, I remember the
risk factors, you know, as but being a pretty big
thing to you know, exacerbate symptoms and make it worse. Look,
he still finished with the.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Bronze, and now based on the Botswana athlete and the Benarrek,
it's the question of Okay, I guess they didn't really
disseminate this information. You don't want to cause a panic.
You don't want to make it what it immediately becomes,
at least stateside becomes a political thing, right once again.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
No, this is just letting the competitors know because they
have more races coming up, right.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
I don't want to get company.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
He withdrew from the last over. Yeah, yeah, he said
he's done. He was going to be in the four
by one hundred, but now he's giving up his spot.
These other people want a race too, right, I want
to finish. Yeah, It's just something that So that's the
first part. The second part of it is like, wow, Noah,
Lyles is very polarizing. Right, you had him fighting with
all of NBA Twitter. He's very out spoken about what
(10:01):
he does, comparing his world championships to world championships in
the NBA and look, and he finds a way he
likes to get after.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
He doesn't mind getting into it.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Basketball team's official account clapped back at him this afternoon.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Yeah, we don't play for bronze, that's right. Yeah. So
I see after.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
He runs out before the race, and he's all sorts
of hyped up. He's yelling, he's screaming, he's jumping up
and down like a lunatic. He's enjoy this is my open.
And then he runs a pretty good race. Right, It's
not like suddenly he fell way behind or he'd lost.
He started coffee, couldn't know he got beat, right, Okay,
so maybe a little bit of being sick contributed a
(10:42):
tiny bit to that. But then right after the race
is over, suddenly it's wheelchair, it's a mask, it's a
mass doing your interview, and suddenly it's.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
Oh, he had COVID like part of this.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Wow, you're really being overly dramatic because you want to
explain the bronze medal. Why he didn't get gold. Does
he does he really need the wheelchair? I mean, just
is he Paul Pierce? You know in the NBA finals?
Does he need the wheelchair? He stopped and didn't interview.
He was fine talking to the guys after. He was
okay to compete in the two hundred meters, and suddenly that's, oh, hey,
(11:14):
we want you all to know he had COVID, Like, oh,
I can't have the image of me losing out there,
so I want to make sure people know that I
have cod.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
Like whatever was it was a little over the I
mean in his quotes. I mean, he really should have
given himself a lower percentage. He still said he was
ninety to ninety five percent, Like you should have said, hey,
I really played hurd. I was at seventy percent. I
was still in the bronze medal. Was his forty forty
five percent? Look out great, I am. But yeah, it
was a bit over the top, a little jarring at
(11:43):
right there is in the wheelchair. And look, I hope
he's well again owing to other physical things he's got
going on. But in the aftermath of the event, yeah,
it's a bit much. And and the word COVID just
still strikes fear into so many people's hearts, whether whether
it's fear or resentment. Right, you go, and those run
(12:04):
in parallel depending on where you're at and how much
it affected your individual life. Right Because for some people,
and bless them, they only read about it and never
either experienced it in their homes or in their workplaces,
et cetera.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
So you know, there's that level of knowing it.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
And facing it right versus it's out there and it's
a media spun political football as it were. And unfortunately,
my guess is coming out of the games, we'll get
more talk of it, like ah, but the games went on.
Now what do we had? We had the talk of
the Sane River was forty eight hours No, sure, hey,
we're not going to be able to do this. Twenty
(12:47):
four hours later we figured it out. Brought to you
by Oxi Clean.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
I mean, look, it's it's always a moving target, trying
to keep a public perception. Okay, late at night, people
are pouring bleach goat. Just this is just bubbles. Yeah,
that's all just rebubbles. Don't open your mouth or eyes.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
We'll do that thing that they get into Tommy in
the who's Tommy.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Here's your earplugs your eyes. Your eyes are covered, and
here's a plug for your mouth and nose.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Exit out by to Fresca Exit Swollen Dome.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
live from the Tirack dot Com studios. Now before we
get to, uh, two big NFL stories from tonight, Yeah, Hey,
Rest in peace, chee Chi Rodriguez died today at the
age of eighty eight, one of the most famous.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Golfers of all time. Uh.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
You know, you go back to the eighties and late eighties,
where you know he was up on all the highlights
all the time. He'd make a putt and then pull
uses his putter like it was a sword and.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
He was scabbard. Yeah, he was so much fun.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
A lot of television appearances, but many many you run
where he was the featured player if you were watching
any kind of golf coverage because of the personality.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
Hey, Chechia Rodriguez is play. Oh what's he gonna do?
He's gonna do something crazy. Hall of Fame golfer. Look,
one of the most popular players of all time. Uh,
passed away earlier today at the age of eighty eight.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
That's a hell of a run, man. Yeah, I mean it, that's.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
A I mean for someone born that long ago, eighty
eight is a phenomenal run.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
And you know, I keep thinking back to when in
w Kripe and Cincinnati one Less his thing. He would
always get the sports names wrong. If everybody involved and
he would call him Chai Chai Rodriguez.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
And and and Howard Hesman.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
Johnny Fever would cover the mic and go chie Chi Rodriguez,
and Less would look at him and go it was
a victory for Chai Chai rod Regutz at the Denver Open,
Like I'm not gonna listen. That's how you say his name.
That doesn't happen with radio people at all. They wouldn't
look at you get it wrong, do not correct me, sir.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
That's good stuff.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
You also have this, you know the cycling could you
could be a spotter for a cycler? Do you get
a medal if you do that on the indoor track
like the little little velodrome thing you get you gotta
get some kind of metal because they had they had
spotters before they started the race, so it's kind of cool.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
You could do that. Yeah, okay, we keep trying to
find different sporting events that you can do. What's that? Why?
What's the matter?
Speaker 1 (17:07):
I don't know much about this sport, but I'm pretty
sure that that one in the front that was motorized
is cheating. Well that that's gonna wind up being allowed
in the next Olympics.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
And clearly, but it might have been Lance Armstrong, like, oh,
drop the mic.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
I'm waiting for like bird scooters to be the next event.
Let you know, soup that like NASCAR is like a
soup Nu bird scooter and you go and then and
then there's all maybe it's a relay where you have
to drop it off and somebody else comes in.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
But which freeway do you have to navigate?
Speaker 4 (17:43):
Like?
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Of course that guy is gonna be in the lead,
he's got a motor.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Do you have to fake get past the fake Elmo
on Hollywood Boulevard?
Speaker 2 (17:53):
That's thirty am yea failty Elm. Plenty of time we
got we had a long time. We got four years
to build it up. Fact.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
But I mean we gotta prepare for twenty twenty eight.
You want to talk about cleaning up the saane.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
Wow, he's honest too, by the way, is he really? Yeah?
Well I didn't know that. Okay, Well you've had a
conversation with him. You know his sign? Oh okay, all right,
he tells you what he wants. Okay, all he really
really wants Okay, okay, okay, all right. At least he's honest. No,
that's true. You you want an honest Elmo. You always
want that. You don't want it on Elmo, that's gonna
(18:28):
lie to you. You want it honest. Elmo was on
Twitter today trying to take over for flavor. Flavor what
if I'm a number one fan with you? Hi, Elmo? Oh,
it's so nice to meet you. My name is Billy,
I'm six.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
You'll probably grow up to be a disappointment to your parents.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
Elmo Truthseller twenty twenty four. That's a different Elmo. I
brought this present for you all the way from from Walla, Walla.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Oh, Elmo has a cigarette for you.
Speaker 6 (19:00):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
It is Hollywood Boulevard at it, but right there, so
no glassing about it. You really started working blue, like
when the Muppets had that late you know that nine
pm Eastern time.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
You know.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
I get to the point now because it's so weird
just speaking of cigarettes, is that I look at people
smoking cigarettes, I don't want to go, what the hell
are you doing? Like I've seen people smoke cigarettes my
whole life, but now there's vagon.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
I don't hardly see anybody smoking cigarettes. Might go, what
are you doing? What did you see?
Speaker 1 (19:30):
There's at least a different way to You're still smoking cigarettes.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
Right out of the pay man.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
Sometimes you don't want to change your delivery system, all right,
An you've decided that the heavy taxation and the rising
costs associated the syntax as it were, does not deter you.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
When I admire that, stick to it. When I want
a heater, I'm getting a heater.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
So we talked about the Patriots Panthers came a few minutes,
was czy and tonight, Yeah, Giants and Lions tonight as well.
There weren't any big fights after they were the last
couple of days. We eventually after teams get fined over
two hundred thousand dollars.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Oh my, calm down. But I'll tell you what now.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
In fantasy sometimes I can be a knee jerk guy
and a guy who hype I was buying all preseason
was Molik Neighbors. Yeah, obviously taking in the first round.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
The guys highlight reels, right, I mean you've been getting
those spoon fed to you every chance.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
Get just like just just like.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
The slow motion Aaron Rodgers videos, I get where I
just go, oh, look at that.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Look at Mylik Neighbors.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
He's uncout through your head when you're watching those Aaron
Rodgers slow motion when I'm watching since they're in black
and white.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
And they just watch it go and I just no,
you know what goes through is the is the is
my head? Is the the end of Moneyball, you know, Haddiberg.
Heits the home run, sorry spoiler, and you hear the
music explode, like that's what goes through my ome.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Okay, look at that, it's the moneyball throw. That's great.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
But Melik Neighbors tonight, after hearing every about him, he's
getting a lot of I don't want to say comparison
to this player. He's a different kind of player, but
he's getting the Tank Dell hype from last year. And
Tank Dell was terrific wide receiver last year as a
rookie and was uncoverable and many games he played did
get hurt. Missed the end of the season, which is
(21:17):
too bad, which again shows you how good Houston is
because they're able to continue to move on without him.
But Neighbors is getting all that hype. I'm like, okay, boy,
am I gonna take where? Am I going to take
Neighbors in my fantasy draft? Am I gonna take him
ahead of Marvin Harrison all this year hearing how uncomforable
he is. Tonight, twelve snaps from Eleak Neighbors no targets,
which means no receptions and no yards, a big donut
(21:41):
for Neighbors. There was one play where he was running
wide open downfield with his hand up and Drew.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Locke didn't see him. That's that surprising.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
Well, well so on the first The first thing I
want to say is welcome to the New York Giants.
It's gonna be a lot like that. Did he walk
in like a Camleb Williams with the team thing?
Speaker 2 (22:02):
My signing modus.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
Is because he got paid and might be a long year,
but clearly, hey and clearly TJ, we really didn't see
the best of Neighbors tonight for the Giants.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Won't you be by Neighbors? It's not just John Belushi
starring in Neighbors? Okay, so a great movie, underrated? Yeah, yeah,
oh no, it was a lots a good one.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
Yeah, but no targets tonight for a guy that, you know,
the Giants wanted to get the ball to. And I'm
not gonna sit here and say, you know what, I
gotta look at the ALL twenty two I'm gonna say,
but just just think about it this way, right, I
want to seem important when I look at the ALL
twenty two?
Speaker 2 (22:41):
Is what do he do?
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Is like to get a glass of wine and watch
you all twenty two film of the Giants?
Speaker 5 (22:45):
There?
Speaker 2 (22:46):
No, but this is a guy who they want to
get the ball to. You know that. I just killed
you without.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Because there's like four or five people with their heads
immediately popping up my mind of who are who's he
emulating and mocking there. I'm watching the old twenty two
and this is what I do late at night. I
tell you exactly what I see. Very watched the two. Uh,
it's very specific. And this is a guy though your
first round pick. You want to get him the ball
(23:13):
and you don't get him the ball at all. Well
he played yeah, no, we played right, we got to
run some springs. But this is what but I could
But now I can fast forward in my mind to
week week six going. I played Molak Neighbors and got
a zero and I lost. Like so I'm very knee
jerk to now. Or I'm like, if my draft is tomorrow,
I'm not taking the Leak Neighbors. I'm taking Roba Dunze instead.
(23:34):
I'm taking somebody I think you should have anyway. Yeah,
I'm gonna take Kean Coleman instead, Like I'm gonna where
was the number one but Neighbors.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Look, he's got you.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
Know, the the with the guy that can throw them
the ball, right exactly. That's true with the Marvin Harrison
Junior type talent. He's that good, he's that escapable, he's
so and then I watch I go how they couldn't
get him the ball? Yes, part of it is the Giants,
but in fantasy, I don't care.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
If Stants are coming somewhere. Yeah, he may not.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
Daniel Jones may not be your team's quarterback, but if
you have Elik Neighbors, he is your fantasy quarterback. People
don't understand that when you play your receivers and fans
all of those quarterbacks of your guy.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Are you now going down your guys and you.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Decide to get some nocturnal activity with everybody that they've
been with before. Now you're doing that.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Yeah, I drafted him, when I draft his quarterback, Yes,
you did.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
You did well.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
I'm starting Deontay Johnson. You're also starting Bryce Young. No,
I'm not a starting because if Bryce Young doesn't play well,
Deontay Johnson is not playing well.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
So you understand you're buying their quarterbacks too.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
So now I'm saying to myself, Wow, the combination of
they could have got on the ball a couple of
times and they still didn't. That raises my antenna. But
the fact that this is what it could be like
for the Giants, and this might be it something now like, hey,
I'm elite neighbors, man, I don't know, Man, I might
stay away from elite neighbors instead of trading up to
get him, I might take him out of my mix.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
Well, I have to look at the overall rankings of
where he's going. I would have guessed he's probably a
WR three where we sit right now.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
What do you think?
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Yeah, probably if you're drafting Dynasty, he's going to be
in your top five or top well that's a whole
other but yeah, he's probably a wide receiver, but with
the potentially be a wide receiver too, because you're talking.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
About someone's back number two right now, he's gonna wind
up being the Giants number one. So if he's if
he's the Giants number one at worse, he's going to
be a watch.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
I mean, does he get utilized towards Let's just get
the ball in his hands to where it becomes a
standard eight to ten targets, maybe six to eight catches,
and then you're hoping for one big pop a game.
Right But in the end for the Giants, it's going
to be a lot of Devin singletary, a lot of
(25:46):
the tight ends and then the occasional pop downfield. So yeah,
for me, Neighbors would have been a guy I would
have put as a third as a three fantasy wise,
But in terms of that overall excitement of look, he
can't be any worse.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
About that Parry.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
Positive, Well, boy, this is not worse where Hey, two
passes for eight yards, this is zero zero, This is
zero's across the board. But he ran twelve routes. Is
Tarski's GPA. To give you another John believed.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
And I haven't watched the All twenty two, so I
don't know how many times there really was a how
many run plays was he in for?
Speaker 1 (26:22):
You can bring me that smoke when you watch the
All twenty two and tell me exactly what the elite Neighbors
did on every play.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Hey, once you're in that meeting room with the offense
and you know what they were trying to run, then
you can comment. Okay, tell me you haven't heard that
a few of course, of course you don't know what
they were trying to accomplish on that today. I first
down that's what they were trying to do. By the way,
is that guy with the motorized bike still leading.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
Uh calling, I'm calling it. That's shooting. Man. I know
much about the sport, but that city win.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
Yeah, well, well the guy's not peddling anymore.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
So I think that's I think you really have to
peddle at some point. Well, I mean not really, I
think you do. I think you do. I mean I
don't know that.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
This is to the extent of where everybody thought the
race walkers were cheating the other day.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Every one of them is cheating. Every one of them
is picking their leg up, and there we're old cheating.
Get rid of the smoke.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
You can see right here they're doing the telrainer. Look
at his knee right there.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
I don't know why he's yelling livestrong. Don't that's not about.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
We got more coming up in ninety seconds, but first
special delivery steam to Sayer has what's trending in the
wide world sports demo I see.
Speaker 6 (27:31):
Let's start with the Olympics. Is the US is headed
to Saturday's Olympic gold medal game and men's hoops after
a comeback victory over Serbia ninety five ninety one Steph
Curry thirty six points from three point range, he was
nine for fourteen the US. It was down by fifteen
points late in the third quarter and came back. Nicola
Jokich of Serbia in the laws seventeen points, eleven assists
(27:55):
from three point range. He went oh of six in defeat.
France won at semi final. Sidney McLoughlin Lavrony won the
gold again and the four hundred hurdles. Noah Lyles finished
third in the two hundred meter final. After testing positive
for COVID this week, he will miss tomorrow's relay. Americans
finished won two in the one ten hurdles. US won
gold in the women's long jump. US women's volleyball won
(28:18):
at semifinal in five sets over Brazil. US women's water
polo was beaten in a shootout by Australia in a
semifinal to the NFL and the exhibitions tonight, two of them.
New England seventeen to three over Carolina. New England played
four quarterbacks, Joe Milton the only touchdown pass. It combined
eighteen punts in that game. The Giants at home beat
Detroit fourteen to three. Eric Gray two touchdown runs, a
(28:41):
combined seventeen penalties, fourteen punts in that one. The Falcons
placed wide receiver Rondell Moore on injured reserve. He's out
for the season. The Jets sat quarterback Aaron Rodgers today
for their joint practice against Washington in the rain.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
He was not happy. No, he was not happy.
Speaker 6 (28:57):
To not talk his way into the game on this one.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
But you know what, he's healthy. He okay, you know
that's also a good move. Though, come on, coach, let
me play, really, don't let me play?
Speaker 6 (29:07):
Yeah, exactly, but he would have lasted four snaps right.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
Oh, yeah, there we go.
Speaker 6 (29:14):
Just saying, yeah, that's fine, that's fine.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
How does the Mets.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
Dots are position right now? The Mets are in the
play at the season ended today. The Mets are in
the playot.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
I know the good news.
Speaker 6 (29:25):
Jets wide receiver Mike Williams made his practice day.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
He said, I'm gonna be ready for Week one. He said,
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
Garrett Wilson was dominating to where someone tried to fight
him Garret today.
Speaker 6 (29:37):
Mike Williams coming off of torn a c L last
year with the Church, so he's working off to the
side for a couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
But he was actually there at practice. Hey, how do
you feel about Week one? I don't know. I'm not sure.
Speaker 6 (29:48):
Oh what for me?
Speaker 1 (29:49):
What do you? She Skeeps could go at Mike Williams
because he's not a Charger anymore.
Speaker 6 (29:54):
I would take him on my team just to throw
the ball up high.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
No.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
True, he could high.
Speaker 6 (29:59):
Point it as well as anybody in the AFC.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
How are you going to say, would take aim away
team just so I could cut him. No, No, he'll
miss a.
Speaker 6 (30:07):
Few games on his own, you know, for it. But
when he's on the field, I mean, just any sideline
pattern toss it up. Quarterback Nick Foles officially retired. The
Saints gave linebacker Peter Warner a three year extension. The
Mets were nine to one winners at Colorado. Pete Alonso
two early home runs Milwaukee sent the Braves to a
(30:29):
fifth straight loss, sixteen to seven. The loss to Charlie Morton,
who was down eight and nothink in the third. Brewers
hit six homers Padres.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Every game this week been like the Brewers seventeen and
the Braves five.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
Thomas dominated It's been every game this week.
Speaker 6 (30:45):
Yeah, this is the highest of heights at the moment
for one team. And Atlanta. Is my goodness, are we
even going to make the playoffs this year?
Speaker 2 (30:52):
What is happening?
Speaker 6 (30:53):
Tenanting wins for the Reds and the Giants, losses for
both the Yankees and the Orioles. In fact, that Oriols
was seven six at Toronto Vladimir Herrero Junior a home
run and a double and a triple as well. But
he has ten home runs in his last twenty games.
Victories for Philadelphia and Tampa Bay and Seattle with a
three run double bottom of the ninth beat Detroit four
(31:14):
to three. The White Sox fired manager Pedro Grufolo named
Grady Sizemore their interim skipper.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Back to you.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
The Brewers outscored the Braves in their sweep this week
thirty four to twelve.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Yeah, ten, eight, five, sixteenth. Harvey's Wallbangers live, Let's go.
Speaker 6 (31:32):
So they should have had a third stream catcher starting
one of those games. A.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Yeah, well maybe that's this weekend against the Rets. Maybe
that's how it's We'll get to it. Thank you, Steven.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmen. Look,
we'll have the Jerry Jones story coming up next, but
just really quick on the US Olympic team here because look,
it's been such a big story. We talk about how
great it was today seeing Lebron and Steph Curry and
KD carry the team in throughout most of the fourth
quarter and winning. Lebron looked like prime Lebron, and KD
(32:01):
looked like prime KD. And I know a lot of
people are surprised, but I thought they'd have to go
with the younger players. I'm not really because for short
periods of time, the best players in the NBA, regardless
of age. Turn back the clock. Right, you're talking about
Lebron and Steph and KD playing one out of every
(32:24):
three days, and now twice they're gonna have to play
every other day. Right, This is a handful of games
in the summer when they've had some time off, when
they haven't had to go through games in a while.
Of course, these guys are gonna be fresh. Of Course
you're gonna be able to ride Lebron and Steph and KD.
Because it's not been too much basketball.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
It gets to be game. It gets to be too much.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
Basketball when they're playing a lot of minutes, too many
nights in a row, and you wind up getting injuries,
and and and they got to pick their spots.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
They don't need to do that.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
And and that's why I'm not surprised that when we
play Saturday, it's not gonna be Edward's another guy.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
It's gonna be the same guy. When it comes down
to it.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
This is who's gonna be closing the game out for
the United States against France. Lebron's gonna be the point guard.
It's gonna be Lebron, and Steph's gonna be the shooting guard.
Front court's gonna be a kd Embiid, probably Booker in
some kind of rotation. And that's gonna be the like
Steve Kerr figured out. Okay, these are the guys that
close it out against Serby when we needed These are
the guys that are gonna close it out there. You're
talking about four of the guys are all you're thirty
(33:26):
five years old, and they're all playing at a high level.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
But you can do that when you don't play a
lot of basketball.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
Still the best players out there. And you'll see more
of Devin Booker twenty four minutes in this one. And
we talked about efficiency ratings and everything else. Durant played
twenty four minutes, hit that big shot down the stretch,
and that's where Kerr and the coaching staff at this point.
All right, the young guys, you're the future. Great you
got a taste of it. You helped us get to
(33:52):
this point. Watch the the KG veterans go to work.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
Cauz.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
Look, we're talking legacy plays here, because if they were
to lose this one, after all, the hype of the
greatest Olympic team ever, I mean, we were even joking
about it.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
It's like beat the dream team, my ass, you know
that kind of thing. As it was coming down the stretch.
Speaker 3 (34:12):
That and they all hear the noise, they've all heard it,
and you know they'll tell you they don't except Kevin Durant,
who welcomes it because he was on Twitter almost immediately
after the game and fighting with people because they were
mad they lost their bets plus seventeen by the exit.
Swalling down the Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon coming
(34:34):
up next, Jerry Jones speaks and oh my goodness, does
it certainly seem like the Cowboys are headed for a
rough season.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
This is Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live
editions of the Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific, Fox.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best Friend
Mike Harmon, Yo, ty Shirt, you weren't working the other night,
thirty nine anniversary of running up that hill.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
Mike showed me, I'm thirty ninth anniversary. Well he's still
he's still part of the team. So you just weren't working.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
Here.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
Like lamar Odom, you work like one out of every
three nights.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
Do you want to sway the millennials who Lamari is? Yeah,
you're it's been a minute, I think I do.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
You're right. Uh, Well, the difference between me and him
is I don't work for free. Okay, don't go look
at his career earnings. It's not relevant, ok but it's
it's Okay. Do you know who lamar Otem is? Lamar
Odom lamar Odom.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
Either basketball, couldn't tell him. Frostburg, don't tell him basket.
Why do you have to play basketball career? Mister Albert, Well,
he knows it's sports. Yeah, no, he doesn't.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
Yeah, dude, he was definitely the guy that like odd
at the Bunny Ranch. Right, did Frostburg just tell you
that was that the first thing Frostburg I told.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
Him the sixth man with the Lakers. I just remember
the bunny ram Oh you tie the Kardash. I actually
met him, you did? How did you want not the
Bunny Ranch? Well continue the story there, mister, you're walking out. Okay.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
How many of you practice a diet of of of
strictly no carbs and all your food is from old foods? Okay, okay,
I eliminate you got a sponsor?
Speaker 4 (36:22):
Oh? Sorry, okay, Well first ask him if they can
put this up the backside if that stays there?
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Whoa whoa whoa what?
Speaker 6 (36:29):
Whoa?
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Wait?
Speaker 1 (36:30):
What whoa?
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Whoa? Whoa?
Speaker 4 (36:34):
Anyways, Okay, No, I actually met Lamar Room twice. You did,
not the Bunny ranch.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Okay? So he down the street here? No he was,
now you met him, not once? You know what, You
met him, met him for coffee on several occasions.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
No, he goes down the street here to the gas station,
the what is it, the chevron or whatever it is. Okay,
he goes across the street to the adult business area
what allegedly?
Speaker 1 (36:58):
No, say, Okay, this conversation's over. We're moving on to
Jerry Jones that just say he's a cool guy. Let's
just say you don't know who he is. I say, no,
you know, just said he's tall.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
We're done. We're done. We're done, We're done. We're moving on.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
He's really tall tall. He was a basketball player. That's
all that matters. He's tall, not many short part. He's
got a talent.
Speaker 2 (37:25):
Okay, we gotta move're moving on, moving, We're moving on,
moving on. It's over today.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
Jerry Jones was asked about the CD Lamb contracts exclusion,
and he said, I don't feel any urgency to get
it done. When Ceedee Lamb heard about this, saw it
on social media, he quote tweeted it and wrote lol Yeah.
Dak Prescott later on after practice was told about this,
and he said, well, I see an urgency to get
(37:52):
it done because he wants cd.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
Lamb in camp, wants him happy, wants him around, get
some reps, get going into a new season.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
Absolutely, here's what I can't help you with. I can't
help you if you don't listen. When I told you
this is a new Jerry Jones, it was a new
Jerry Jones. The two playoff losses the last two years
completely broke him. The forty nine Ers loss. The Packers
lost last year that broke him. He has told us
I'm all in on this year, meaning I'm not paying
(38:19):
for anything. We're not doing it.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
I'm not signing anybody any extensions.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Where and if it goes bad, we're gonna completely revamp
things in the offseason. That's what he's saying. He said,
I'm gonna be around a long time. I'm aid, but
I'm gonna be around a long time, don't. I don't
feel the need to go crazy all in on this
year to win. This is how we're gonna look at
things and people though, oh, it's Jerry's gonna No, he's not.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
He's not gonna give anybody money.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
Dak's not gonna get paid, Ceedee Lamb's not gonna get paid.
Doesn't mean he won't pay them in the offseason. If
the Cowboys have a great year, if they go on
they played for the NFC Championship game, Hey, okay, we
love Dak, I love CD. These are my guys. But
short of that, guess what new head coach, new quarterback
Ceedee Lamb won't be there. All these guys will be gone.
The best CD Lamb can hope for is before camp ends,
(39:04):
Jerry Jones and he can strike a deal where, hey,
I'm not going to give you any extra money a contract,
but how about to give you another five or ten
million for this year. Let's work things out a little
band aid deal here. Then hopefully we're talking in the offseason.
CD Lamb's gonna say, great, the Cowboys have salary cap
money left. That's how this is going to end. But
this is a new Jerry Jones, and we told you
about it.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
If nothing else, you massage some contracts and you open
up a little more money and get to a number
that works. It's what we've been suggesting on some level
to San Francisco. Whether it's beyond the point of no return,
I don't know, but you know for Ayuk, but certainly
for Cede Lamb, you know, chuckling at Jerry Jones, and
whether Steven's pulling the strings or Jerry at the eleventh
(39:45):
hour realizes that it all can go and get torn up,
because look at those last two losses, a tale of
two games. Right, defense played well against San Francisco, very well,
just the offense plays from Dak Prescott, and then last
year everything stunk, but it was magnified because the defense
was so porous and one point fifty eight points. The
(40:06):
Dak's first half was terrible. Oh yeah, yeah, they did
nothing to stem the tide. So you know, he got
hurt by everybody.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
Everyone has let me down. I don't like the grievances.
Speaker 1 (40:19):
I'm gonna get replaced. You gonna replace you, you, Lieutenant Weinberg.
Oh yeah, I'm gonna replace all you guys. Gonna happen,
Gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
That's it. Goodbye.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
Jerry Jones twenty twenty four, talking about the long future,
telling you man, new Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
Baby, let's go.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
They are gonna hit the beginning of this season, and
let's see just how into it the Cowboys are, because
this could get sideways, really really fast. September one could
be the end of the Cowboys's get it on. Coming
up next, my buddy Ben Mallor, this is Fox Metsio
