You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome in side hour two of The.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Love
at the tyrack dot com studios tirec dot com.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
I'll hope you get there.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
An unmatched election, fast free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyrack dot com is
the way tire buying should be. Well, we'll get to
a big debut tonight in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Yeah, it's all here. We at all kinds of fun stuff.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
It's all happening.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
But listen.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
You know, we talked about the Jason Tatum situation. If
you minutes ago, his mom very upset that he's not
playing when out on social media and said it's unacceptable.
She needs to know why. It's like we're playing for
the gold medal tomorrow. You gotta understand this is gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Nobody thinks it's gonna happen to them. I'm always gonna play,
so I'm okay with what happens. Then when it happens
to you, it sucks, but you gotta just put it
away until the tournament's over.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Put it away.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Then, if you're upset after we win the gold medal,
whatever you want to say, say, say anything you want to,
but wait till after the game, right, that's all, Just
wait till after it.
Speaker 5 (01:29):
But Steve Kerr in USA basketball might have created the
greatest monster ever. Jalen Brown left at home, Jason Tatum
doesn't get to playing. Sure you thought the Celtics were
badass this last year.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
You just wait and.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Then Jason Tatum goes home and says, hey man, how's everything.
He goes, oh good, Hey, I didn't get to play
at the Olympics, just like you.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
How are you doing?
Speaker 5 (01:54):
Yeah, I'm rested and fresh, feeling pretty good.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
How about you?
Speaker 6 (01:58):
Bell?
Speaker 3 (01:59):
But let me let me just say this, Okay, before
we get any further, this.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Foolishness, barring a and this could I mean, look, I'm
not discounting this because we've seen it. Look, you see
why the host country wins more medals and Olympics that
they're hosting than they ever do any other time. Right,
you get the hometown cook in, the hometown officiating, the hometown.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
It happens, Right, it's a thing.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Look at every summer Winter Olympics, the host country wins
more medals in that Olympics than they do anywhere else. Right,
So yes, I'm gonna put it out there that officiating
could have a big deal to do with tomorrow's gold
medal game between the United States and France. Right, we've
seen it already with France, who the officials decided we're
gonna allow you to beat Japan. But really you should know,
I'm gonna throwri Hachamore out. I'm gonna put you on
(02:42):
the free throw line when you don't deserve it with
like one second left in the game.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Oh, that's awesome. So we've seen it.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Barring that, Okay, barring that happening. Look, United States is
gonna stop France tomorrow. They are gonna sixteen and a half.
They will cover that tomorrow. Look, the United States, I
know that we've been waiting all Olympics and thinking, okay.
In the United States, they you know, the games have
their attention now, Oh no, no, weight, they don't.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Oh okay, now the games have their attention.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Oh no, no weight, they don't. Oh the games have
oh no no. But they saw what happened in the
fourth quarter against Serbia. It was just a day ago.
They had to come back with a superhuman effort in
the fourth quarter. They can taste the gold medal, all
of them can. It's all about legacy. It's some winning
for the first time. They can smell the gold. I
know they've had trouble dialing in. I will be stunned
(03:33):
if this is not the United States running up and
down the Florida tomorrow dominating things because listen, the French,
their strength is down low, right where are strengths down low?
They don't have the guards that are gonna run around
and stop and and bog Daanovich like like like the
best game he's ever played with the Hawks, you know,
making fun of Carmelo Anthony hitting threes that that's not
gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
That's not the type of team France's. Because France is there,
and I'm.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Worried about them in twenty twenty eight, right Wenby in
four years and all this it's like Yo Kitchen, Serbia.
But for tomorrow, barring some incredible officiating French Scott Foster
refereeing the game. Maybe he shows up with a French
mustache and he's refereeing the game and getting even with
all the NBA players he doesn't like. Although chrisnandez Oh,
it could be both's got time on the call, both
(04:18):
on the call. Barring that the United States will romp.
And the biggest thing you're gonna see is they are
gonna set the pace. They're gonna want to win this
game in the first ten minutes. They're gonna get out
and the best thing they can do is play fast
off of transition, because that's NBA basketball. That's the big
advantage We have athletically, are spacing on the floor when
(04:38):
we play in transition. Other teams can't play in transition
like we do. They get down, they don't know where
to go with the ball. This is how it works
in the NBA. This is this is the way the
NBA has been now for twenty years and and and Francis,
their heads are gonna be spinning to bar where it's okay,
I was on Lebron here and then I looked over
my shoulder. Not only do the ball just go across
court to KD, but it's back to Steph for three,
(04:59):
and now it's it's a three pointer and everybody's going
crazy like That's what's missing from the United States was
how they play in transition, and they're gonna I guarantee
you they're gonna do that tomorrow, and barring an officiating disaster,
the United States is gonna romp over France tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Yes, sixteen and a half they cover, they get to.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
Deploy the greatest unknown Hallimburton back to back years with
double digit assist totals. You don't have a lot of
tape on I'm working with the squad.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
I'm kidding.
Speaker 5 (05:26):
Run with Ubraca, Lebron, James running the point. Hopefully Steph
heats up that. You know, the the last game was
just a precursor to what comes. Kevin Durant enjoying himself
talking about how those moments, those final couple of minutes
are no matter how many titles they've all won, that
that might be one of the greatest Night Knights of
their lives kind of a big deal.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
And certainly you look at Joel Embiid.
Speaker 5 (05:50):
I mean he's already ready to enter the transfer portal
talking about how he might play for Cameroon next time,
so you know he's a guy. Although a fiating against
him will be very curious to see. Is he on
the bench very quickly with two fouls? Touch fouls in this?
You know, do they let them wrestle a bit down
(06:11):
low or do we get a couple of tiki tags
on him or Anthony Davis That kind of changed the
complexion of what you want to do down low, But
either way too much for the US and for all
of these guys. They know the poison pens, they know
the columns have already been written and are ready to
hit send should they falter. And anybody that doesn't believe
(06:32):
that go back to see how quickly things got published.
After the narrow miss against South Sudan.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
I feel great. I feel great about I feel I
feel great about where the team is at. And Steve
Kerr knows his lineup, he knows where the closers are.
The guys that they can smell that it's different. They're
still the best team. They're the best team by a
long shot. They'll play NBA basketball tomorrow in transition and
watch them win. We'll have more on this from Rick
Buker is going to join us coming up in a
(06:59):
few Does he see any potholes outside of Scott Foster
officiating for the I don't know if that's a good
if they brought Scott Falster, would that be a good
thing or bed?
Speaker 4 (07:07):
No, because he's got beef with all of these guys. Yeah,
it doesn't beef with everybody.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
No, there's always Layton Beef. He's a ref, he's beef.
That's my new brand brief, Layton Beef.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
He's got Layton beef.
Speaker 5 (07:24):
I'm stewing underneath Layton beef.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
He's got Layton beef.
Speaker 6 (07:30):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
So we'll have more on this coming up in twenty minutes,
actually in about ten minutes. But let's get to the
last big story tonight from the NFL. We covered the Texans.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Last hour. We covered Michael Pennix's debut. Big stuff on that.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Frostburg got Kenny Pickett in, Yeah, you got Kenny Pickett in.
Kenny Pickett was finey, Kenny Pickett's fine, Kenny, Hey.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
You haven't hated anybody outside of a couple of your
Mets players. There's only there's only more than Kenny Pickett.
There's only one worry I have about Kenny Pickett. There's
only one worry I There's only one one worry I have.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Now I'm gonna zig here. There's only one worry I have.
You know my worry, You have one.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
I only have one worry if he actually has to
play in a game that counts.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
That's my only worry. That's my only worry about Kenny Pickton.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
Well, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (08:14):
Never mind, we'll say more Eagles talk for another time.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
But look, but justin Fields tonight played a couple of
series for the Steelers. Move the team up and down
the field. Yes, yet check down short a little bit,
but six out five out of six sixty seven yards
did fumble the ball a couple of times.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
Looked like the exchange was a little rough.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
And this is a little bit different because when you
look at at quarterbacks who need to win jobs, it's
you got to blow the doors off of people, right,
That's what you gotta You gotta blow the doors off
of them. You got to show these are the plays.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
I can make.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Justin Fields quite honestly, Mike to be able to get
this job faster because look, the team will be better
when it goes in because he's a better quarterback than
Russell Wilson. He's got to find a way to just playing,
to have to have no big headlines, no concerns, to
just execute the offense. Doesn't need any wow plays. We
know he can run the ball well. We know he
(09:09):
can you know on occasion he can throw it deep well.
But he's got to show that, hey, I know the offense.
I'll make the dump offfs if I need to. I
don't need to make every every play that. I don't
need to be a superhero on. I just need to
have boring games where yeah, justin fields looked fine. That's
all the team wants because you're talking about bringing in
a guy with a who's a talent that's all over
(09:29):
the place, and it's about harnessing it. And the more
he could play boring, the better off it is. Because
now Mike tom will say, Okay, he understands the offense,
he can execute it.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
We feel good going to him. This is not wow.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Look at him take off for that twenty three yard
run that gets us a first down, but then he
takes two sacks and we have to punt because he
didn't get rid of the ball in time. Like, if
he just plays boring, he's fine. And tonight, honestly the
worst things obviously because you can't do it.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
But the fumbles.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
I mean, if he gets out of this game without
two fumbles, he's fine right now. And he's continuing to
gain on Russell Wilson for that job. But tonight you saw, hey, Okay,
he can do a little bit of other things, right,
like you hit the check down, hit the receivers, went
through his progressions.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
Jefferson down, he's good.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
Yeah, he made he did get up into the pocket
and got it delivered.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Yeah, he only missed one pass.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
But you fumble twice, and whether that's hey, the center's fault,
whether it's you still had two fumbles. Can't have fumbles, right,
you can't can't have fump but it was, it doesn't matter.
You can't fumble the ball. So he took what was
gonna be an incredibly positive night. And now you throw
the questions back out there again. Okay, boy too fumbles.
If he could just play boring and just I'll execute
(10:38):
the offense, doesn't need to leave every preseason game with hey,
two drives two touchdowns or two drives a touchdown in
a field goal. I had a quarterback rating as one
hundred and fifteen. No, no, no, just just show that you
can do the things that every quarterback can do. We
know the rest of your talent will take over once
you get into the game, and you get in you
you hit the chemistry with all the players. We know
(10:59):
what you can do running the football. We know that
you can still make big plays throwing it when you
take chances. But just play boring and things will be fine.
That's the biggest thing I could tell justin fields. That's
how you win the job from Russell Wilson.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Faster.
Speaker 5 (11:10):
Yeah, get used to your offensive line, get used to
your progressions.
Speaker 4 (11:16):
They got some struggles.
Speaker 5 (11:17):
The right tackle was not good, but in the end,
ball security was a big problem in Chicago. Exchanges were
a big problem in Chicago, and clearly that has not
ended as of yet. For all the positive things you
can say about some of the reads and progressions that
he had tonight, those are absolute killers. When the when
(11:40):
the Steelers will be playing on the margins, right, they're
not gonna blow anybody out. As much as we like
their personnel, a lot of its stems on defense and
whether TJ. Watt's actually available, what's his over under on games?
I have not looked at the prop bet yet yet,
but they succeed when he plays, but it's usually a
(12:01):
grind him out, slug it out performance, like we were
talking about with yesterday's performances of all right, you gotta
get to twenty one?
Speaker 4 (12:09):
Can you get to twenty one?
Speaker 5 (12:10):
We're playing blackjack with some of these squads, and with
the Steelers that's certainly it. So the margin between winning
and losing the job is one possession, that's it. So
for Justin Fields, unless that gets cleaned up, they'll side
with Wilson, even if he does the old electronic football
game thing where he just runs in circles to lead
(12:34):
to a bad play. But every once in a while
he hits, so people get to get excited. That's kind
of where we're at. Actually, that's the other side of
the coin of Justin Fields, now, isn't it.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
What a conundrum? What a conundrum?
Speaker 1 (12:45):
What a maroon exit out about a Fresca exit swalling

All the latest news in the NFL. We saw that
Justin Field's debut for the Steelers tonight. Buddy. How weird
was it seeing him playing for the Steelers. But I mean,
you've watched him succeed and not succeed for you for
the past few years. What was it like for you?
Speaker 4 (15:26):
It is an odd situation.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
It's kind of like when Mitchell went away and was
displaced and just keep going on down the line. I mean,
it's been a veritable congo line of quarterbacks well from
my entire life.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
As soon as you get comfortable.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
With the guy and think, all right, the ability, Nah,
he's gone. You think about the greatest quarterback seasons outside
of Luckman.
Speaker 4 (15:49):
I'll make the joke myself.
Speaker 5 (15:50):
Man, you're looking at Eric Kramer as your leader in
terms of yardage and single season things. Him and Cutler
are the two guys that cut through. So yeah, that
that's where we're at. So seeing him in a Steelers uniform,
I wish him well.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Joining us down the hot line of guy we always
wish well. Longtime NFL Insider Pro Football Hall of Very
Good voter, he lives on sponge Cake. He lives on Frescaritas.
He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two. It is
Jason Cole. What's happening, Bud.
Speaker 6 (16:26):
It's a beautiful, beautiful Friday night. Here, made carnitas for dinner. Nice,
had a couple of nice drinks. Okay, I'm lived I'm
lived out. Let's do this. Let me help me, let me.
It was my favorite chord of the week.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
What you got, Well, we have new walk up music
for you. What do you think.
Speaker 6 (16:55):
I actually, I gotta be honest with you. I hate.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
There it is.
Speaker 6 (17:04):
I'm evil. Wow, I'm just totally evil for this. But
I just don't get it. I really dub shit. It
just wow. On Fridays when I was in college, on Fridays,
we walked back from class, it was about four o'clock
in the afternoon, and on these giant speakers, you know,
because it was the eighties and you had to have
(17:26):
six foot tall speakers and stuff like that, right, and
so they would just blas either Baba Riley or Jimmy
Buffett every single Friday. And it took me twenty years
before I could listen to Baba Riley again. And I
still haven't gotten over Jimmy Buffett. I just it's just
(17:46):
sucking burn brain. I can't do it. But I do
believe in drinking his favorite drinking.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
Okay, so note to Sell, I mean I'm in.
Speaker 6 (17:54):
I'm in strong agreement on that one.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
Wrong, strong agreement.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
Yeah, I caught that the walk up music for Jason
Coles Bartaritaville.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
The walk off music is Boba O'Reilly got it?
Speaker 3 (18:05):
Okay?
Speaker 6 (18:06):
Perfect, very nice, Frostburgs going, Okay, We're ready.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
Pete Townsend singing that song. I can't believe you got
Pete Townsend taking it up?
Speaker 6 (18:14):
All right?
Speaker 1 (18:15):
So, uh, you know, Harmon and I were just talking
about how weird it was for him to not see
Justin Fields alternate good plays with head scratchers like we
did with the Steelers tonight.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
At what point does he wind up starting for them?
Speaker 1 (18:28):
Because like I feel like it's just gonna happen, But
at what point is it really going to happen?
Speaker 6 (18:33):
I haven't looked at their schedule yet, because you want
to know when is Russell Wilson going to screw up?
So if I'll do it for you, Okay, give it
all right, Timmy, let me let me pull that back up.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
Week one, the Jets, Week two, the Jets, three, the Jets,
Week four of the Jet.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
We Week one Falcons on the road.
Speaker 6 (18:55):
To it should be okay there.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
Week two back in Denver to face the bron Goes.
Speaker 6 (19:01):
He'll screw that up. Go ahead.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
Week three, you got the Chargers at home.
Speaker 6 (19:10):
Oh, it should be okay.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
Week four at the Colts should be okay. Week five,
Jerry Jones at home.
Speaker 6 (19:23):
He'll be jack for that game. They'll be all right.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
And when they get the Raiders.
Speaker 6 (19:30):
Yeah, when does it get into division play? When does
it get trust one?
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Well, that's the thing.
Speaker 5 (19:34):
It's late, and you get the Raiders, then they get
the Jets, then they have the Giants, then the Commanders.
They don't play the Ravens till November seventeenth, followed by
the Browns Bengals.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
Browns right out of that.
Speaker 6 (19:48):
But see, with that schedule, you can see them hanging
out in that division until they have to play some
make or break games against really good defensive teams. And
so I say, if you put the under over eight
and a half games for Russell Wilson, which is which
(20:10):
is a tough one, I say he hits the over
on that, I say he gets the Week nine or ten. Okay, close, Okay,
so you can be justin field until the second because
when the Steelers also really want to shocking, shocking goal here,
just make the playoffs, right, and because they've got this,
(20:31):
they've got a championship caliber defense, but you know, the
offense has been so inept that I think they want
to go with a guy that they can believe in,
and for now, they don't believe in Russell Wilson until
he screws it up. And there's enough games that I
don't think he can really truly screwed up that badly
(20:52):
until you get to division games when you get Ravens Bengals, Browns,
like those games get roughs. Those are the ones that
are going to test Russell Wilson more than anything else.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
So Week eight, Week nine for Russell Wilson, we watch
Michael Pennock Junior have his debut tonight.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
What week for Michael Pennick Junior? Week eight, Week nine,
Week five?
Speaker 6 (21:15):
That could be, well, it's Kirk Cousins and you just
want to know, like when does Kirk Cousins have some
like weird breakdown realizing like that, Oh, the people in
Atlanta don't like me. Why is that? Why why don't
people here like me? Because they want the guy who
(21:38):
might actually be really, really really good, not the guy
who's like league average.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
If he runs out of Cole's cash, old cash is
very important.
Speaker 6 (21:50):
It keeps you coming back. It definitely keeps you coming back.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
They're cousins in Cole's cash.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
What are you talking about? This old cousin. That's a
lot of Cole's cash.
Speaker 6 (22:00):
It is definitely a lot of colds cash. Now, I
think that I think Cousins is going to be good
enough to get the weapons involved. So you've got you know,
you've got London, you got Robinson, you've got PIDs, and
he's a good enough quarterback that the ball is going
(22:21):
to go to place, you know, like they're going to
feed those guys enough times that the offense is going
to look a lot better and they may be able
to get away with the excuse that the defense is
just not good enough and sort of ignore the fact
that Cousins it is not good enough to take you
over the top, right, Like it's not to make able
(22:42):
to make up for what the offensive deficiency is. So
I think he holds on for a lot plus pick
the gate guarantee him a lot of money.
Speaker 8 (22:50):
I just.
Speaker 6 (22:52):
This is the whole problem. Yeah, like I like Michael Penick,
but why did you do this? Why did you do
this to Cousins and why did you do this to Penic?
Why did you do it to either guy to put
him in this kind of problematic situation where it's not
even we're week one of preseason and people want to
know when Cousins are going to be out. That's how
bad this is.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
No, we moved the cycle up because they become a
darling and then Pennis has a couple of big throws
and plays and people get excitable.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
That's what we do. It's either whish.
Speaker 6 (23:23):
They would I wish they had just drafted PENNI. I mean,
obviously they would have put themselves. They wouldn't corner themselves
if they didn't sign Cousins beforehand, and they would have
gone into the draft with everybody knowing, oh, there they
have to take a quarterback. So we're going to leverage
them out of their minds. I get that, but this
(23:45):
is not the answer, you know, like, oh, look we're
gonna we're gonna dig when everybody else is nagging on it,
and we're going to take two quarterbacks that never worked out.
It just doesn't work.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
We're going to say two quarterbacks watch.
Speaker 6 (24:03):
This, Yeah, watch how this works? Yeah, we remember just
how it worked out in Dallas with Haye front Walsh.
Wasn't bad genius. Oh, let's go back to the days
of Stawback and Morton. That was classic, wasn't it. I mean,
come on, how many times does he have to do
this to know this is a bad idea? It's a
(24:24):
really bad idea.
Speaker 5 (24:25):
Hey speak, Speaking of Dallas, let's go to Jerry Jones
says he's got no urgency on Lamb.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
Right, you got a contract and you have the.
Speaker 5 (24:32):
Franchise tags at your disposal, Lamb, relapse at it. Dak
comments on it. When's he break them off? More money?
And revert to old Jerry Jones.
Speaker 6 (24:47):
Right? Like this is what drives me crazy about the Cowboys.
And do fans ever see through this that Jerry just
wants to so much be the center of attention that
team makes the negotiations a a you know, a part
of the soap opera, Like this is part of the
(25:09):
this is if you were if you were writing a script,
you go oh, the Cdee Lambee story. This is the
great one. We're going to really work this, Like, hey,
Hobats is winning some games. You just focus on winning
some games, and maybe you should pay your best players.
The guys who work the hardest for you, the guys
who set the tone for how your organization is going
(25:31):
to be run. The guys who, like everybody else, looks
at and says, hey, dude, are you happy being here?
And instead that guy's looking around going what do you think?
What do you think I'm happy? Do you think I'm
happy that Jerry Jones is toying with my life? Do
you think that I got that? I'm happy that every
single week I go out on the field worried about
(25:54):
whether I'm going to have a career ending knee injury,
and I'm I'm freaked out about that more than I'm
focused on how well should I play? And people out
there think, oh no, they're out there, they're not thinking
about contracts. Every one of those guys, when they're in
contract peers, is thinking about contracts. They're freaking out before games, going,
(26:15):
please don't let me get hurt, because I'm about to
make life changing money.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
Jason call with us The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Carmen live from the Tirac dot Com studios.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
All right, so if you're looking at this.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Weekend now with Jerry Jones continues to show us on
the New Jerry Jones Uh week one. Yeah, you know,
some starters are going to play, some starters aren't going
to play. What are you interested in seeing the most
this weekend?
Speaker 6 (26:42):
Like?
Speaker 3 (26:42):
What do you what do you want to see?
Speaker 6 (26:43):
The mother?
Speaker 3 (26:44):
What's the one thing? They say? You know what?
Speaker 1 (26:46):
This is the this is the one thing week one
in the preseason that I'm mentioned in seeing. I mean
maybe maybe it's how good of the Jets, and maybe
that's what it is, just how great the Jets are.
And if that's the answer, that's all. But outside of that,
what is it?
Speaker 6 (27:02):
It's the preseason. I don't look forward to any part
of it.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
Boom, Mike, Mike Common would fight you as Jesus.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
I celebrate every single game in the catalog a.
Speaker 6 (27:13):
Bears fan and what else like only but it's only
good when the games don't really count when you're a
Bears fan, and it shouldn't be the same way if
you're a Jets fan, right, Like, this is the only
time where you really enjoy it because there's no heartache
associated with these games, like they just happen and there's
all promise and there's no like dealing with reality that
(27:34):
oh the team sucks. Wait a second, oh oh, we
we're not going to win the division. We're not gonna
make the playoffs again. Like that's that's what it's like
to be a Jets fan. You look forward to the
preseason because you can't get hurt. You really can't get
hurt as a fan. Your players might get hurt, but
as a fan, you can't get hurt.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
But that hurts me as a fan.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
If my players get hurt, that hurts me as a fan.
Speaker 6 (28:01):
Okay, you're not supposed to go along with this. The
thing I really the thing I always look at forward
to in pre season is how do rookies and young
guys play when the lights are on? That's that's the
thing I looked at. There's a little bit of offensive
(28:21):
line play with the first unit if it's out there,
like how and thinker those guys are? You know, do
they look like they're ready for the regular season? The
rest of it, you know, you're you're really looking at
individual players and analyzing is there does the team have two,
three or do they have like six to ten open
(28:44):
spots in their roster. And when you're talking about six
to ten open spots, you're talking about teams that are
in full rebuild. I remember Jimmy Johnson in nineteen ninety
six when he took over with the Dolphins, right, it's
like he it was. It was a blood bath preseason
because everybody was competing for what seems like fifteen open
(29:04):
spots on that roster, and he was going to keep
anybody and everybody who would just fight and play hard.
So there was a lot of competition. It was exciting
to watch at that time. But when you have a
competitive team, like you're the forty nine ers, I've been
after forty nine ers practice and they're really good. You
watch them, they move fast, everything looks terrific, and you
(29:27):
know this, this is going to be a very good
competitive team to make a run in the Super Bowl. Again,
who knows, we'll see what happens. They're deep, but they're
really worried about like let's not get hurt, like Trent Williams,
like Kyle Shanahan's like don't come in, don't pretend that
you're holding out. Don't come in, don't come here, and
(29:48):
we don't want to see you because I don't want
you to do anything that might affect your ankles. Don't
be here right like. That's that's how they looked at this.
Don't get hurt, and that's what happened with established teams.
That's why there's not much competition. They maybe have one
or two three jobs available at all. It's the rosters preach,
(30:09):
so it's anti Clima appreciation.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two. That is
at Jason Cole sixty two. J Cole is always buddy appreciated,
my friend. Enjoy the rest of your Friday nights. What
happened to Bob O'Reilly?
Speaker 3 (30:22):
Tight shirt? Bob o'reiley?
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Come on Master Jason, because I love It's only.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
Wait see you, buddy, have a great weekend.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
We're all wasted.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
You want, you want a great you want you want
a really good Baba O'Reilly story, really fast nothing and
a really good fast Boba Riley story for you.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
No, we're good, you know what.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
Let's find out what's trending first. Then I'll give you
my great Baba O'Reilly story right now. Steve de Seger
has it all with us right now as deep.
Speaker 8 (30:53):
That's right because we have three NFL exhibitions, which gives
us a chance to update the statistics of one Mike
White quarterback in Mike.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
Let's go, oh yeah, buddy.
Speaker 8 (31:02):

in Major League Baseball. Tonight, the Phillies are tied two
(32:09):

and fifty feet to center field. The Dodger lead over
Pittsburgh is now seven to four. In the fifth inning,
bottom of the sixth at Seattle, the Mariners are shutting
out the Mets to nothing. Already, Houston did play and
(32:29):
win eight to four at Boston. Houston and Seattle were
tied for first in the AL West to start the night.
Tigers lead to nothing at San Francisco's top of the

first with the Yankees in the AL East. Yankees' home
game rained out against Texas doubleheader tomorrow in New York.
Baltimore was a winner for to one at Tampa Bay
and the winning pitcher, Zach Efflenex of Tampa Bay, went
(32:52):

edged the Angels three to two. The Padres in ten

forty three and seventy four. The Padres have won sixth
straight and this was a comeback, a running the eighth
solo homer in the ninth four in the tenth. The Padres,
second place in the NL West, were two and a
(33:13):
half games back in the Dodgers. To start the night.
Cubs have won seven of nine. They beat a White
Sox team that fired its manager yesterday seven sixth the
final the loss to Garrett Crochet, who trailed seven to
nothing in the third, allowed four home runs. In fact,
it turns out they've played these two three times so
far this year, and the Cubs have won seven six
all three times. This is stat from a White Sox producer,
(33:36):
Christopher Caamko, who says the Garrett Crochet, who's been having
a good year on a truly horrendous team Crochet stats
against the very first batter of a game. Those batters
were oh for twenty three with sixteen strikeouts against him. Tonight,
Cubs first batter, Ian Halp home run, later three more
home runs. White Sox record now twenty eight and ninety
(33:58):
back day.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Thank you, Steve.
Speaker 1 (34:01):

Speaker 3 (34:34):
You couldn't do that. Really, you couldn't do that.
Speaker 6 (34:37):
Absolutely not.
Speaker 4 (34:37):
You couldn't do that.
Speaker 8 (34:38):
Really, it's not Baba, it's Bubba.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
Oh Bubba O'Reilly.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
The Jason Smith Show.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
I you know, as one of my baba, as one
of my friends, you just say I think they just
all got drunk, and instead of saying teenage wasteland, that's
how it came out. It could be, could be, So
you want, I'll tell I promised the story because Jason
Cole just a few minutes ago talked about how much
he hated this song. We'll get to our big pick
of the gold medal game in the second.
Speaker 5 (35:02):
It seems like his length of this list of things
that he hates is gonna be his next book.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Yeah, that's one of the things I hate by Jason
Collwatt's eight hundred page it's longer than the stand by
Stephen King.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
So one night, it's my.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
Freshman year at college and one of my best friends
comes to the room. It's like Friday night at like
eleven o'clock and he's been out at happy hour all
day and he's just obliterated, and.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
I'm like, what's going on.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
He goes, Okay, tomorrow night is the Hall Talent Show,
and I said, yeah, I know everybody knows. He goes
we're gonna do We're gonna do lip sync to Baba O'Reilly.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
I said, wait, what Yes, Jason, come on, you're gonna
do it.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
You're gonna be You're gonna sing, okay, and then and
then you're gonna be Roger Daltrey. And I'm gonna beat
Pete Townsend and I'm gonna come in and sing and
let's practice.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
And I'm like, what are you talking about. I don't
want to do it. Come on, just help me.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
We're gonna get We're gonna get Wood, our other friend.
Wood's gonna do it. He's gonna be the drummer. He's
gonna be Keith Moon. We're gonna win.
Speaker 4 (35:54):
First prize is like three hundred bucks.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
We're gonna do it. No one else I've talked to people.
No one else is gonna do it. Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
So I'm like, okay, you know whatever, it's eleven o'clock.
I'm gonna okay.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
Fine.
Speaker 3 (36:04):
So we practiced for like a half hour. He's all excited.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
Then I come in and I do the dun cru
I go your lip sinking right, You're not gonna say,
he goes, no, I know we're lipsacing right. So this
is like a half hour. He leaves at like eleven
forty five. I'm like okay, we're gonna do it. So
like the next day, goes, I don't hear from m.
It's twelve o'clock, one o'clock three, like the talent shows
like right after dinner at like seven o'clock. So finally
I see him at four o'clock and I go, hey,
(36:28):
I go, what's going on for tonight?
Speaker 4 (36:30):
He goes, what are you talking about? I go for
tonight for the for the talent show.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
Boba, o'reiley, you came came to when we were practicing
last night, when you came to the room at like
eleven o'clock, you want to do it, and I was
gonna sing, and you're gonna come in and be and
be do the Pete Townsend part, and we're.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
Gonna do it.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
He goes, oh, I don't remember any of that, really,
I said, Oh my god, you don't remember you No,
I don't remember.
Speaker 4 (36:52):
That at all.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
I go, yeah, okay, all right.
Speaker 4 (36:54):
The good news is I didn't have to do it,
so that was fun.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
Oh that's good. Yeah, I didn't have to do it.
Speaker 5 (36:58):
Well, actually you you Jennison him, and you went up
and took another song off Who's Next and started singing
behind Blue Eyes no.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
No, no, we're gonna slow it down to be the sand,
to be the fan, to be a Jets fan behind
the plates.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
Oh that was back on when that was a that
was really good right there.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
It was a perfect album side.
Speaker 5 (37:28):
Hey Dragon, I mean that's three songs for us to
do parodies on.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
What's hey?
Speaker 4 (37:35):
I write it now?
Speaker 1 (37:36):
Sure get that get going mobile that was on that too.
That was all I.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
Every I figure. He just goes, oh no I remember
that at all? Really, like, oh my, really, what do
you mean, dude? You gotta get you gotta get under control.
How do you not remember any of them? Uh?
Speaker 1 (37:54):
So tomorrow morning, I mean like, well morning for one,
morning for everybody, really early morning on the West for
you and I armin us women's gold medal game in
soccer United States and Brazil. MARTA's final game in big
time level internationals. She get kicked out of this one too,
that in a dope Billy Crystal refereeing, this is my
(38:14):
farewell game.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
Let me be the first to say farewell well.
Speaker 4 (38:18):
She does another one of those jump kicks like she
was in a w W E ring. Yeah, that was
she won't be long for that game.
Speaker 5 (38:24):
That might have been one of the most egregious, silly
things I've seen in all of the Olympiad this time around.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
That was a bad luck. That was a bad look.
So how is this going to go?
Speaker 4 (38:35):
This?
Speaker 1 (38:36):
This is not gonna be the best soccer okay, because
this is now a war of who is less tired.
All of these teams have played every three days for
the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
They're on vapors. The United States is on vapors, Brazil
is as well.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
You can't keep playing this long without having the quality
of soccer be effected. So it's not going to be
a great game. It will be a slog in the
sunshine tomorrow. But the United States is gonna win because
no matter what their forwards are fresher.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
You watch Sophia.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
Smith look like in the second half like she just
came off the bench, the way she was running around
the field, The forwards will They've been the story of
the tournament for the United States. They have been the
best players on the field and anywhere. Mallory Swanson, Trinity Robins,
Sophia Smith. They will score both goals, they will account
for both goals. They'll be fresher, they'll pound Brazil's defense
(39:26):
because Brazil plays counterattack, which hey, you see how counterattack
has done the last couple of games against the United States.
Speaker 3 (39:32):
Nobody scores, so that it plays right in the United
States's hand.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
It's not like they're suddenly out there with this dangerous,
free wheeling attack. Now they're gonna try to hold the
United States back in counterattack. It may take a little
while for the United States to break through, but they're
the better team. The forwards are fresher, They're the freshest
players on the team. You can see the guests. They
have the energy they have they win too nothing. The
United States wins a gold medal.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
Look at you going to nil.
Speaker 5 (39:56):
Obviously the hyperb believe the best defender anybody's ever seen
on the US squad. That's kind of what the kind
of conversation has become in girma uh. And now we
look for that offense to to roll up US. Just
a narrow favorite in this one, though, Jason so not
a nervous folks rolling around over under set at two
(40:19):
and a half goals, I'll take the over. Another late
surge from the US forge to give you a two
to one victory.
Speaker 1 (40:28):
You know, the only thing that gets me worried, right,
is what Serena Williams coined this a week ago. The
FAA fo f around and find out right, Like, yeah,
because we still see the United States defense do that
many times. Hey, we're gonna we're gonna f around and
find out, Oh, the ball's in the back of the net.
That's the one thing that worries me because when you
(40:48):
see them starting to play the ball and try to
play the ball out of trouble and the opposing attack
closes in, this is what gets me worried. I'm already
I already know they're gonna have to work around Lindsey
Horan in the middle of the and Rose level, who
are just not the world class players they were. But
it's really if the defense and a listen naire can
just not make a mistake and have it wind up
(41:10):
in the back of the net. I really can't see
Brazil scoring because the United States is just that good.
They're back and by this time tomorrow it's going to
be well, they're the overwhelming favorites to win the World
Cup again. Funny how that whole the United States Starting
Over era just lasted about eight months and that's about it.
Speaker 5 (41:26):
Well, now you have your core to build towards. Guess
where the US in twenty twenty eight. Yeah, the Naire
and passing back to her. Some anxious moments, but they're
able to finish it off and then be the lead
up to the US men's final exit.
Speaker 1 (41:44):
Out about a Fresco exit swelling down The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Cartman coming up next.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
Boyd, do we have a crazy football story for you?
This is Fox
