(00:55):
We got an FL we have MLB, we have Olympics.
It is a full service August night here in a Friday,
Mike Carmen, it is I feel like, Hey, we've made
it through. Hey, the Olympics has helped us into Okay
now where he now? Football is here. We are here
now and it was one game last week and one
you know, the game last night, two games tonight, whole

(01:15):
bunch of game with three games tonight, bunch of games tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
We made it, buddy, we made it again.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
We're here, the long, arduous journey. And look, we get
to stretch our legs a lot in those non football months.
Not that there aren't still a lot of contract stories,
Jerry Jones quotes and other things to dissect, don't get
me wrong, And the waves of free agency are always
out there. But tell me you didn't enjoy watching old CJ.
Stroud and Tank Dell watching Justin Fields make some of

(01:44):
the same mistakes he made in Chicago. A couple of
nice flash plays, but some otherwise questionable decisions, and that
offensive line not so great.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
But you add it all up.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
Yeah, it's back. It's all back. And tomorrow morning I
get to watch Caleb Williams. He might actually you take
a snap. Yeah, they're gonna save him to Game three.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Yeah, Well, if it rains or something, or if it's cloudy,
we're gonna sit and we don't want to.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
Mercury is in retrograde, so maybe you need to sit him.
I don't know, all right, but.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Let let's start.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Let's start with of course we're gonna start with the
NFL tonight, let's start with something that. And I'm kind
of upset that the world is making me do this
right And I always felt, wait, but what are you
talking about? Jac You always do your ownA. Now now
the world is making me do this. The big headline
tonight from the NFL games. You watch the big headline CJ.
Stroud with a big thirty yard touchdown pass to Tank

(02:35):
Dell and suddenly, ah, yeah, Texans are back, Texts are back,
Tank Della's back. I would love to pick the Texans
for the Super Bowl or the AFC title games. You know,
we picked the NFC championships. I would love to pick
them for the AFC Championship game. I would love to
pick the Texans for the Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
But I'm not. You know why not because I don't
believe in them? Because wow? Are they good? Wow? Is CJ?
Stroud good? Wow?

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Did they get better in the offseason? And they're getting
Tank Dell back? This team is locked and loaded and
ready to go. But I'm not gonna pick him because
everybody else is going well, it's over.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Worry. I'm not doing it now. I'm not. I'm not.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
I'm not gonna pick the trendy hey everything, because the
trendy Super Bowl is gonna be the Texans.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
And the Packers, right like Texans Packer.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Okay, that's not trendy, that's insane, but but for trendy
because you're going off a last year's success. Every's Texans,
but the Bears are gonna be this year's Texans. Jab
They're gonna run. Buddy, I'm hoping Jets Bears in the
Super Bowl. I'm hopeless. Look, I just put my just
I just elbowed you and put my team.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
Dude, I just want your guy to get past the
fifth snap.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Once that happened, dude, don't say because if he had
gets hurt in the sixth snap, it's not gonna be
any better, all right, just because I can.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
See it at least foot steps this year.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
No, no, no, no, no, would I ever say that,
I would ever say that, You would say that, You
would send me texts with that.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Every single day.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
I might make your shirt with that. I'm not gonna
pick the Texans because I'm not. Everybody else is going
to and it's gonna look like i'm following the crowd.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
What are you worried about people think about? You know,
it's not gonna do it. I'm gonna pick somebody.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
I'm gonna pick the Jets, but I'm not gonna pick
the Texas because that's gonna be everybody's trendy pick, which
is a credit to the team they've assembled and how
in one short year they went from we're starting over
and drafting a quarterback with our pick early in the
first round. Two, Hey, people think we're going to the
super Bowl and they got pat turn around in the year.
You can turn things around, and even less than that,

(04:30):
if you get the quarterback right, everything is possible for you.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
Well, that's just it. They also added Mixing and Stefan Diggs.
Do I want to Stefan Diggs in year two or
year three? Maybe not, But for one year with CJ.
Stroud throwing them the ball and Tank Dell, I think
the one thing he did take out of it is like, yeah,
you look like the Jets were still there. And I
don't mean your Jets. I mean that his legs are
just fine and he's fully operational, which is problem for

(04:56):
defensive coordinators. But you look at that roster all the
way through Scholtz gone down the line. They bolstered things
with a couple of veteran ads, and so yeah, it's
it's the trendy pick. They're one of the favorites in
this super Bowl, in the Super Bowl excitement, and obviously CJ.
Stroud is a guy that you know because of Joe

(05:18):
Burrow's health issues, folks want to put them right behind
my homes in terms of their top ten rankings. So
all of that to say, here we.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Go, not gonna fall in line, not gonna do it.
I don't care.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
I'm not gonna do it. I don't care how good
I think. I'm just not gonna do it. I'm not
going to because all the Texans were good left they
were a team that was good last year, made the playoffs,
and can make it jump Like I feel like that's
all anybody does when they make their pixes. Who's a
team that made the playoffs, that was pretty good, young,
with a chance to grow, they get a little bit
better in the offseason.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Yes, that's my team.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
That's you know what, though, I think folks will start
to jump off as they realize they're they're not They're
not alone in the forest.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
You know they're looking.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
There's another guy waving right batches like, oh, I thought
I was gonna see the rare bird myself.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
You're not up. You're not up all.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Night like me watching twe watching All twenty two film.
You're not doing that. Right after I finish the show
and I go get a glass of wine and I
sit and watch All twenty two film four five o'clock
in the morning, and I go to sleep for forty minutes.
I get a full forty minutes like Buddy the Elf.
Then I'm back up and watching All twenty two film.
That's what I'm doing all that. That's what I'm doing.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
You know.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
I actually used to watch that a lot when they
made it hard to find. Yeah, and then it became
part of the NFL Plus packet. You're like, all right,
now everybody's got it and everybody's sighting this. Although I
gotta say that that shot from the Steelers game, from
where the camera angle was, I don't know if you're
getting anything better that might be that might service the
All twenty two based on where that camera was. But

(06:44):
as we sit here tonight, Chiefs forty nine Ers both
six to one. Raven's at ten to one, Lions at
twelve to one, Eagles despite all the Sirianne Jalen Hurts
slap fight thirteen to one. Texans come in next tied
with the Bengals and Bills at fifteen to one.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
All right, I may take one of those teams, but
I'm not taking the Texans. There you going not doing
it well.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
I mean, once Joe Burrow got his eminem or Tody
Rhodes haircut, I know you started getting all excited so
you could start saying.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
What, maybe I picked the Bengals, baby, I picked the Jets.
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
Well, you wear the mask like he does, come into
the ring.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Sure, I'll wear the mask and I'll have the haircut if.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
I end the giant robe. Yeah, you know, it's a
good theme. You just get to stomp a couple of times.
There's a lot of pyrotechnics.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
It's good.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Meanwhile, we saw the debut tonight of Michael Pennick Junior,
and for the Falcons. In his game, he was nine
out of sixteen through FO one hundred yards, did not
throw for a score, did not throw for an interception.
Michael Penick Junior tonight was fine. He did some really
good things. You saw the touch he has on the
ball that he showed through college. Fantastic. He overthrow a

(07:57):
couple of receivers. Okay, it happens, right, Yes, this is
the first taste of action against the Dolphins.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
And Michael Pennick Junior was fine.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
This conversation is not about now suddenly he's great, he's
gotta take over. But you see the reaction to Michael
Pennick Junior tonight on social media from Falcons fans, people
around the league, the NFL. And this is why I
say the Falcons really don't understand about building a team
because they still think we can start Kirk Cousins as

(08:29):
long as we want to win. Michael Pennix Junior, when
is he gonna Initially I thought, yep, Kirk Cousins will
get this year and then they'll trade him in the offseason.
Michael Pennick Junior will take over last year. That ain't happening.
This is more of a Russell Wilson justin field situation
than the Falcons want to admit. Because if Kirk Cousins
is great out of the gate, and he's okay, awesome, right,

(08:50):
he plays all that, but and he has a better
chance of playing well than Russell Wilson because Kirk Cousins
is a better quarterback. But when he falters, it's gonna
be Michael Pennix. We need Michael Pennick. It's not gonna
be wait till the end. Let's give Kurt the chance
to sit. That's not how it goes when you draft
a quarterback that early in the NFL draft. When you
draft a guy's a franchise, he plays sooner rather than later.

(09:12):
And if he shows in the games that he's that
he's ready to at least take on some kind of
role i e. Not throwing up on himself, because that's
all you gotta do. And they just don't throw up
on yourself and team. Everybody's gonna think you're great. You
see already the reaction to Michael Pennick Junior by look
at Michael, look at what he did. Look at this
throw here, Look at this throw here. We're gonna ignore
the fact that he missed almost half his throws. Well,

(09:33):
we're gonna look at this or look at this. You
can see the the intent and you can see the
desire to see him play. And while the Falcons can
sit around and say we don't need to do this. Yeah,
if you're one in three, you're two and five. And
Kirk Cousins is coming off of three bad games in
a row. And let's face it, Kirk Cousins ain't coming
into the season full of confidence. He's still mad. We

(09:54):
had reports a week and a half ago. He's still
mad that they took Michael Pennick junior. Guess what you're
throwing Michael penny in Week five, Week six. This is
way more of a of a Justin Fields Russell Wilson
situation than anybody wants to admit. You took Michael Pennix junior.
Now he's gonna play way earlier than you wanted him
to because the desire from everyone, because that's gonna even

(10:15):
seep into your team.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
It's gonna seep into your.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Players who we're going to see and hear everything and go, whin,
where's Kirk's confidence?

Speaker 3 (10:20):
Boy?

Speaker 1 (10:20):
We have him playing well, Maybe we should see what
Mike Scott he looks. He does great stuff in practice,
goes against number one defense all the time in practice,
looks really really good. That's all things have been going
on so far this summer with the Falcons Hey, first
team defense, he's making some throws, he's wowing us. This
change is coming sooner than anybody anticipates.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
I'm telling you, Oh, it's funny that you mentioned the
Steelers because that's who they start the season against. So
week one, Pittsburgh, Week two, Philadelphia, Week three of the Chiefs.
And let's not forget Kirk Cousins is coming off a
pretty damn serious injury, right. For all, we've talked about
Aaron Rodgers and coming back and he's forty, et cetera. Yeah,

(11:02):
it's a couple of more spins on the odometer than
old Captain Kirk. But you're talking about a dead set
pocket passer coming off a severe leg injury, So that's
always swirling in the background. There's no guarantee he's back
to form, and you're gonna have to pay him out regardless.
I mean that guaranteed money is there. The best businessman

(11:24):
we've ever seen, maybe him and Nick Foles, they can
open their own business school and sell seats. But for
Michael Pennix Junior, Yeah, the hyperbole is there. It's the
sexiness of the quick release in the big arm and
the effortless throws. All of that's there, and if they
do jump out early terribly because the look there is

(11:45):
another one where it's not a huge bandwagon. But I've seen,
you know, there's murmurs of hey, that could be a
team that rises up right, great offensive line, a run
game that has been very effective. Remember p Robinson didn't
get used last year. I mean he is a brand
new Tires that had been locked up for a whole

(12:06):
year because of what they did the malfeasans of a
year ago. Think about how much life would have been
easier for Desmond Ritter and those guys quarterbacking a year ago,
you know, if you'd actually used the guy you drafted
in the top ten. But we don't need to relitigate
the ineptitude and stupidity of a coaching staff of a
year ago. But you know, you look at the receiving corps,

(12:27):
I mean, there's so much to like about what they have,
at least in theory, because it's a division that doesn't
have any heavyweights. Right, Tampa is the team that you
push forward because you saw the reclamation project that was
Baker Well Canallis is gone.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
That was the guy that helped fix him.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
As that continue, maybe maybe not you like the receiving corps,
a couple of pieces, good running back, all that. But
the Falcons are are team that could go and win
the division. So if they get out of the jump
slowly playing those three non division games, then you might
be looking over your shoulder a lot faster. I don't know.

(13:05):
I don't know where Pittsburgh is. I still think at
a guilt they're gonna have to start.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
Russ will But Justin still looks has accelerated that timeline. No,
I'm sure Michael Penick Junior, it's more Hey, by mid
season if we're struggling, he's the guy like it could
be even sooner than that. But forget about Hey, they'll wait,
he'll sit all season. Now, that ain't happen anymore. Man,
You can see thee and that again, that seeps into
the locker room. It seeps into the team, and it

(13:32):
becomes do you want to keep your job? You're starting?
Michael Penick Junior. I got Atlanta bit off more than
they can chew. They'll find out, though, and they're starting,
they'll start to find out. Now, oh wait, wait a minute,
we have we have to play this guy a lot earlier.
He looks really good in practicing man if Kirk, Kirk
doesn't have any confidence that we start out bad.

Speaker 5 (13:47):
Oh my goodness, you guys, tonight is just outrageous.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
Well, what are you talking about, Frostburg.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
We're talking about all the quarterback playing and you're missing
the greatest one that played the night.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
We'll get to Justin Fields.

Speaker 5 (13:58):
I'm talking about Kenny.

Speaker 4 (13:59):
Pickett, legendary Kenny Pickett, now that he's out of Pittsburgh.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
Sure, sure we're tea. I'll tight them up.

Speaker 4 (14:09):

We got justin fields to get to.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
We have one team USA hoops player's mom is very
unhappy with her son not playing.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
Gee, try to guess who that is shot.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
However, we need some time to talk about the four
x one hundred relay, both men's and women's Today at
the Olympics. We need, we need, we need to talk
about this. We need to have a conversation. Uh, let's
do the good part first. Shakiri Richardson anchors the women.
She takes the baton in fourth place, blitzes by France

(16:20):
and Germany and the United States, wins a gold medal.
It's her first gold medal, and the you know, look,
I'm always wanting to say, oh, this photo is iconic.
This photo is iconic. Her getting set across the finish line,
looking back at the two, at the two, the two
races that she just passed. That's bleep and iconic, cold
blood outstanding.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
That is a once they do the Hey, we've got
a bunch of Olympians together at convention Center as to
sign autographs. I'm buying that eight by ten.

Speaker 3 (16:51):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
I mean that's I mean, There's the thing is, there's
so many different versions of it. Right, It's not like, hey,
one guy captured this photo, right, It's like, wow, is that.

Speaker 4 (17:01):
Who's got the best wide, most expressive eyes and mean mug,
Like yeah, yeah, I gotcha. Because let's face it, it wasn't clean,
no no.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
No, no, no no no.

Speaker 4 (17:13):
I mean that's the one word that is not being
used to describe either relay squad.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
No no, no no.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
But look, you know, and the thing is is for
Shakri Richardson right, Like when I saw her do that,
I this wasn't just your Hey watch me, hey cause look,
maybe we're just so much better than everybody in track
and field. We give everybody a lead now because every
race we're winning big, we're winning in the final like
three or four meters, like that's every race now, fifteen hundred,

(17:41):
one hundred to it doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
It's like, hey, we'll give you guys a lead.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
Let you guys think you're gonna win, and then we're
gonna come from behind in the last few Wow. Look
at that like we're seeing at the entire Olympics, Like
it would not surprise me if that was a strategy.
Hey listen, we gotta make it look good. It's the Olympics.
They've asked us just you know, give them a little bit.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
Wa wait wait, wait, now you're making your Libian's dashed
from the incredible skiff when he finally gets to run
at the end of the first one, and then you
run near the end, yes, in the back the men's
four to one hundred team.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
So should we like mess around with the baton? No,
do not mess around with the baton? Hand off clean.
You guys are the only ones just do You haven't
won a medal in one hundred years and we should
be dominant.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
No, don't mess around. Yeah, but it might be fun
if we do the whole Oh I can't find it.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
Oh here's the baton. I left it in my shorts here. No, no,
don't everybody everybody else? Hey, let them feel good for
their first three quarters part of the race and.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
Then just pass them at the end. And if you
want to give a peek over the side.

Speaker 4 (18:38):
Uh with Shakari Richards, you get guys, Cadillac And now
what you just did? You just dismissed all the efforts
of all these other nations, made a lockery of international
competition and basically said, we're running out a team of superhumans.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
Put are you do it? Smith? You're putting the target
on it?

Speaker 8 (18:57):
Hey?

Speaker 4 (18:57):
And how about a fresco at School of Dome?

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Did we or did we not have a race to decide?

Speaker 1 (19:02):
I'm gonna smile in the backstretch so you could see
my gold teeth, gold medal teeth as I pass everyone
to win the gold medal.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
Saying there's not a lot of ego involved.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
We had a man go straight into the wheelchair to
tell you how much you know, what kind of temperature
he was running and how sick he was. So look,
theatrics are certainly part of what Team USA is all about.
The next Olympics are in Hollywood for crying out loud.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
They're setting it up.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
But look, but just just an appreciation moment for a second.
But before you get to the men's Shakri Richardson is someone.

Speaker 3 (19:37):
Who you know.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
Her story and it's it's it's it's sad because a
lot of it it was done by her own doing.
Of course, she missed the Olympics four years ago or
three years ago because she smoked marijuana before, had a
positive test and it got all the way to They
were asking Joe Biden, President Biden, can you intervene on this?

Speaker 3 (19:56):
He's like this, I can't intervene on this. It's sad.
But what do you want me to do?

Speaker 4 (20:00):
She should be he's spending his time. No, yeah, you
have failed the test that they still run. How did
argue whether they should or not? But how did this
get to my desk? I told you only Syracuse.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
I only Syracuse stuff on my desk, So you know, look,
obviously that was that was awful. You know she felt awful.
Of course, track and feel fell awful. Was a badness.
There was nothing you can do, There was no positives
out of it. Then she comes to this Olympics. Finally
she doesn't medal, when she doesn't get a gold medal,
when she's a heavy favorite, and but she comes from
behind and wins here. And I guarantee you that look

(20:31):
that was. That was months and years of frustration and
being upset and saying this is this is how good
I am, this is how good we are. And that
was all let out in that moment as she as
she looked to the side and then crossed the finish
line and screamed like that That's how I took that
from Shirkari Richardson, like, here's that moment where everything I've
gone through the last three plus years, I've had people

(20:52):
on my side. I'd have people tell me I'm stupid,
what are you?

Speaker 3 (20:55):
And all of that.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
Here now I'm getting the gold medal. I've anchored a
team event and we're winning and everyone're all gonna hold
up the card and me and the flag, and me
and Gabby Thomas are gonna be next to each other.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
It's gonna be an awesome moment. I mean it was.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
It was that kind of moment. That's what I took
away from Shirkarry Richardson at the end.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
Yeah, Look, it's three years of build up and you
think about the amount of revenue lost during that period. Like,
there's great motivations, right, we talk about the Jordan and
I took that personally all the time.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
Every other athlete has some level.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
Of that in terms of pushing themselves to keep their
job or to become the best of the best. And
in this it's you know, we watched it through all
these Olympics, Jason, I mean the margin of between first
and last. I mean it's it's Ricky Bobby esk Lake
Frostburg brought up yesterday. I mean, there's there's really not
a lot of margin for anything. It's one false step,

(21:48):
it's it's one taking someone for granted. And again for
Shcariy Richardson, all the articles and thought pieces and everything
else going through and I gotta think while she I
have no doubt has had her backers and sponsors and
people on board. Wearing medals three years ago would have

(22:08):
helped to make give there a little bit more and
so that that burns as well, because if you don't
have the hardware in front of you, as we've seen,
you know, it becomes a huge medal count thing. And
what what we're doing this entire Olympics. It's Biles, it's Ladecki,
it's lebron and and Kevin Durant and the celebration of

(22:29):
these guys, uh and women that are are piling up
stacks of medals. Shakira Richardson didn't get to do that.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
You know, and look and it's a great moment for
track and field, a great moment for her, a great
redemptive moment as well, and just the cold blooded look
that just the you're not even worth my time, Like
I hope you enjoyed that, that that last three and
a half seconds where you thought one of you was
gonna win a gold medal, because that's not happening for you.
It's happening for us right now as I crossed the

(22:58):
finish well. But that there's the other part of it,
right is that you you have had a bravado that
Hubris that I'm finishing.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
How many of those videos have you seen from different
events over the last year or two All Track and
Field World Championships or whatever. It's like I'm done, or
I'm gonna get to the end zone in the NFL
and you get chased down in the ball, knocked through
the end zone, or whatever the case may be. This
is one that stands up on the metal stand literally

(23:29):
of all of those of yep, you think you had us,
but we figured it out just in the nick of time,
because it becomes one of those if you were gonna
do a one shining moment for the Olympics, this moment
comes up in there, right, isn't that the final cord?
The stare down and then it just says LA twenty
twenty eight or Tom Cruise does something crazy.

Speaker 1 (23:53):
I don't see, We'll see Tom Cruise on Sunday. We'll see, well,
we'll see Tom Cruise Sunday, I guarantee it.

Speaker 4 (23:58):
How many cameos from the people that have been on
the Celebrity Rose.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
Oh, let's see, I'm oh, I'm well, I'm sure somehow
Hoda Kobe is going to be involved, like she's in.
She's everywhere, Like Hoda Kobe is going to be there,
Tom Brady probably and and his daughter Vivian, they will
be in it as well. I'm trying to think of
the people who we see all the time. Yeah, it's
I would say the three of them for sure. Of course,
the fact that Flavor, Flave and Snoop have been everywhere.

(24:23):
You sure this isn't really our Olympics too.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
Yeah, but here's the thing though, here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
It feels it's it's the US Olympics held in brought
to you by Paris.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
Yeah, uh no, we see them too much. It's goat,
we see them. They're part of the cover. I mean, overexposed,
commercialized dog's getting paid a half a million dollars a day.

Speaker 4 (24:42):
To be Come on, let's go half a million. I
did like to the Olympics for that. Strolling up to
the breakdancing competition today, I mean, come on.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
Uh now we have to get to the men's for
by one. The United States team disqualified after they were
the heavy favorite, messed up a changeover with the baton
again and got d Q because the handover the changeover
didn't come within the designated space.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
Now this is still stunning.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
Even though we knew that Noah Lyles was not gonna
run and I he ha said, listen, I'm not gonna run.
So I get there's a little bit of a Okay,
we're taking somebody out. We're taking our best, our best
runner out. Who would you know was probably gonna run
the anchor, I mean if he was healthier, but he
what but he.

Speaker 3 (25:27):
Probably that's probably.

Speaker 4 (25:29):
Yesterday that happened.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
I think you to withdraw. I think he meant that
was his temperature. I think that that's what he was
one hundred and two according to his coach today. So
you know he wasn't gonna run. So that changes things
a little bit. So I understand that.

Speaker 3 (25:41):
But this is the fourth Olympics in a row. We've
messed up the.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
Baton path four not one. This is not the for all.
Look how sad that is. And they couldn't get this
is four Olympics in a row. No one, to Carl Lewis,
wants everybody fired. If you look, you know me, I
I'm a layman's track and field of fan. But I
gotta figure there's two things you're practicing when you're running.
When you're running the four you're practicing the sprinting and
you're practicing the handoffs for four years. You're practicing the handoffs.

(26:11):
It should be precision. You see some of those other
teams that go by. I went back and watching the replay,
going this is just like it's like it's like a
conveyor belt. It's bang bang bang baton go, baton, go
baton go. All the other countries can do it. And
yet this is the fourth Olympics in a row. We've
had superstars and we can't get the handoff right. I

(26:31):
feel like Flynn Ryder entangled. They still can't get my
nose right.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
We say, this is sixteen.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
Years of not being able to get the handoff of
baton right in the four by one hundred gold medal
relay like once, okay, twice, hey, come on, three times?

Speaker 3 (26:48):
It's what the hell? I mean this is the fourth time.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
I mean, come on, I mean, are we're setting the
bar so low that in a Los Angeles is gonna
be Hey, as long as they just hand the baton off,
we don't care. As long as they finish and don't
get disqualified, we're fine. I mean, this is embarrassing, man,
I mean, this is this is something that can be done.
This is not Hey, we're trying to really hit a
degree of difficulty on a vault and I'm out of
bounds around here. No, this is this is something that

(27:11):
can be taught. You see all the other countries do it.
You see they all get the handoffs right. We can't
get the handoff right. I mean, seriously, what the hell
is going on? We practiced a lot. Me and Kenny
bed nerik I have been competitors but teammates. A few
times we felt really confident out there and in the
heat of the moment, just didn't happen. Asked again to
specify what went wrong, I'm not sure if you want

(27:33):
me to point fingers or something like that. As a team,
as a unit, we didn't get it done today. Teammate
Curly said, y'all say the same blank over and over,
and then Carl Lewis joined the frame.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
It's time.

Speaker 4 (27:46):
It is time to blow up the systudy get time
to blow up the system. This continues to be completely unacceptable.
It's clear that everyone all caps at USA Track and
Field is more concerned with relationships than winning. No athlete
athlete should step on the track and run another relay
until this program has changed from top to bottom.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
Carl, let me just say this, Carl, you're watching us
win all the other races, right, You're watching those dominate
can use like every other like you're watching that happen, right,
This is not Hey, nobody can even get a bronze. Yeah,
we've had a couple of times where one of our runners,
who was a heavy favorite, finished and won the silver.

Speaker 3 (28:28):
Okay, that happens. It's the Olympics. It's it's why they
have a scoreboard up, it's why we have the events. Right.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
But by and large, this is another extremely successful Olympics.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
This is just one part of it.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
You want to get rid of everybody just because they
can't get the baton handoff, n it down. This is
like an Adam Sandler snls get oh we gotta do
this where Sandler's the baton handing coach and him and
Will Ferrell do something funny and oh yeah.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
We gotta have that.

Speaker 1 (28:53):
I mean that's insane. I mean, how do we not
get this is teach it? How do we not get
this right? How can we not get that handoff?

Speaker 4 (29:00):
I love every second of it.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
I don't understand, and I like how they're all yelling
at each other at the end.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
Oh yeah, and then you hear you.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
Hear the the the analyst saying, well, he could have
left too early.

Speaker 3 (29:10):
Well it could have been a bad handoff. Well he
could have left too early and it would have been
a bad handoff. Well it could be didn't catch up
to him. It doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
They still screwed up the baton handoff and wound up
getting disqualified.

Speaker 3 (29:22):
Like I don't understand, I don't what is practice?

Speaker 8 (29:25):
Like?

Speaker 3 (29:26):
Really, do you want to see what price like for
the former one hunder men's team? I really do.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike carmen Li from the
tirag dot com Studios. We got more coming up in
ninety seconds, but first let's find out what's trending in
the wide world of sports from Special Delivery Steve the Sager,
who of course has all a big action from today
and what could be a World Series preview tonight as
the Mets take on the Maritors.

Speaker 5 (29:48):
Oh my boy, was that a reach? Wow?

Speaker 4 (29:52):
You know, hey, you know like the Gong Show bring
out the giant hook could be I.

Speaker 9 (29:58):
Would say, I didn't know where you're going with that.
We all know exactly where you were.

Speaker 5 (30:02):
Going with that.

Speaker 9 (30:03):
By the way, I have a relay stat for you
that since nineteen ninety five, in both Olympics and World Championships,
the US now has had eleven drop batons, disqualifications or bands.
US men were disqualified formally in their relay at the
Olympics today they finished seventh after a problem with the
first exchange, which was an illegal pass.

Speaker 5 (30:25):
Canada took the gold.

Speaker 9 (30:26):
Noah Lyles, after testing positive for COVID this week, missed
the relay race on the track. The US women won
the four by one hundred relay running The last two
legs were Gabby Thomas and Shkerri Richardson, who came from
behind to win. US men's hoops play Saturday's gold medal
game against France in Paris.

Speaker 5 (30:43):
Sunday.

Speaker 9 (30:44):
In the women's final, it's the US against France, which
won in overtime. Today, US women's basketball advanced easily over
Australia eighty five sixty four. The Americans are going for
their eighth straight gold medal. This weekend, US men's volleyball
won the bronze the match against Italy. US women's volleyball
plays Italy in a Sunday final. US women's soccer is

(31:05):
in Saturday's gold medal final against Brazil. Germany's women won
the bronze medal game won nothing, stopping a late penalty
kick by Spain. The men's soccer gold went to Spain
in overtime against France five to three, the highest scoring
men's final in Olympic history. The Philadelphia Eagles have won
their exhibition at Baltimore sixteen to thirteen. Here's how Jake

(31:26):
Elliott tried a fifty yard field goal in the final
seconds and it hit the right upright, No good. Game
tied thirteen all. There's no overtime, thankfully in exhibition football,
so we're thinking this one's going to finish tide.

Speaker 5 (31:40):
First Baltimore play.

Speaker 9 (31:42):
After that sack fumble, Eagles recover Elliott from forty nine
yards out.

Speaker 5 (31:47):
Final play. It's good. Eagles sixteen to thirteen. The final.

Speaker 9 (31:52):
Houston won at Pittsburgh twenty to twelve c J. Stroud
with a touchdown pass to Tank Dell of thirty four yards.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
By the way, eight.

Speaker 5 (31:59):
Total kick offs, none into the end zone in that game.

Speaker 9 (32:03):
At Miami thirty seconds ago, Dolphins leading the Falcons twenty
to thirteen, Jason Sanders an early fifty eight yard field
goal and a forty six yard as well. To Major
League Baseball, the Cubs are holding on seven to six
at the White Sox in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Garrett Crochet was a White Sox starter. He was down
seven to nothing in the third. Minnesota won the first

(32:24):
of a double header over Cleveland four to two, so
that six straight losses for the Guardians. Ninth inning Twins
are winning again six three over Cleveland. Padres won their
six in a row, a ten inning win at Miami
six to two.

Speaker 5 (32:37):
Yankees. Texas reigned out Orioles won Back to You.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
Thank you, Steve.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmen
Love from the Tireck dot Com Studio. Like flym they
still can't get my nose after all this time, we
still can't get the change up. We still I mean,
eleven drop batons in World Championships or the Olympics since
nineteen ninety five. Like what is being taught at practice
at this point? Just throw it to the next guy.

(33:03):
Here you go, ready and go deep. I'll throw here
you go. Oh that's illegal. Two doesn't matter. Look out
look at Look, we're way ahead. Give us a penalty.
I mean, I don't know how this is happening to us.
How this happens to the best track and field squad
in the world, this happens to us.

The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon
livethtirack dot com Studios.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
What do I always say, Mike Carmon?

Speaker 1 (34:48):
What am I undefeated in saying undefeated?

Speaker 5 (34:52):
I like Big Max?

Speaker 3 (34:54):
Well, there is that that is true. I'm undefeated every
daffea night.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
I am undefeated when I say milkshakes, okay, yes that too.
I love chocolate, yes, okay, okay, I'm undefeated a lot.

Speaker 4 (35:07):
Of sandwiches I am.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
Yes, I'm so cheap yes yes, yes, yes, wow okay.

Speaker 4 (35:15):
New balance, uh white shoes.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
I'm I like propane now that's a nice one extra
one propane and propane. Okay, let's stop style. Okay, let's
stop it right there, let's stop right there. Let's it's
a family show. I am undefeated in a statement I've
made now for the better.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
But you're just getting the Alley Hayes. Just get it.
I know, I understand. You're just getting it. You're just
getting it off it.

Speaker 4 (35:40):
Yes, no, no, no, I got it. And then he doubled.

Speaker 3 (35:43):
Down, Yeah, you just that's okay.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
I am undefeated when I when I say, anytime and athletes,
family member, or significant other gets involved in a story,
it's never good.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
It's never good.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
You need to allow that person to fight their own
battles and not draw any attention to it. You're talking
about a superstar athlete. And to this, we have Jason
Tatum and his mom, Brandy Cole, who is not happy
that Jason Tatum's not been playing.

Speaker 3 (36:17):
Look, I'm sure Jason Tatum's not been.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
Happy he's been playing either, But Dick Vital of ESPN
put out a statement on Twitter talking about how, hey,
please someone let me know, is Jason Tatum hurt? He
hasn't gotten the playing time you'd expect an all NBA
player to get, all right, this is just Dick Vital
yesterday saying hey, Jason tat whereas he's not playing, and

(36:39):
Jason Tatum's mom quote tweeted that and wrote, no, he's not,
but if you find out what's going on, please let
me know. Unacceptable and makes no sense. Jason Tatum not playing,
according to his mom is unacceptable. Look, I thought we
had taken care of this. I thought we would take
a Steve Kerrz got to be saying, Jason, your mom,

(37:01):
I don't know it's coach, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (37:03):
This does not help anything. I don't know. I don't know.
I get that that Jason that that.

Speaker 1 (37:07):
I'm sure Jason Tatmu's mom is just sick of hearing
from all her friends and text messages. Why is Jason
not playing? Why is Jason not playing? Can you believe this?
Can you believe he's not playing? Can you believe he's
not getting minutes? Can you believe Joel Embiid, who's indifferent
on defense at best, is getting minutes?

Speaker 4 (37:22):
Can you believe that? I'm sure she is sick of that.
Might be getting it from Jason too.

Speaker 3 (37:27):
I get it, I get it. I'm sure. Hey, I'm
not I get it, but you're not. This doesn't help anything.

Speaker 1 (37:32):
Whenever there's a there's a playing time, team player thing
that's going on, right, there's things outside of it where, hey,
I get where family members and significant others get involved.
You're talking about out something off the court, right, something
with treatment. I'm away from the game. I had this
going on in my life. I understand when that happens.
This is a playing time situation, this is a coach

(37:54):
player situation. This is the Olympics. Not everybody's playing the
minutes they want.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
And I get it.

Speaker 1 (37:58):
I understand. I feel the same way. But you gotta
put that away.

Speaker 3 (38:03):
You can't.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
I mean, basically, what you're saying is, hey, it doesn't
matter that we're one game away from a gold medal.
My son's not playing, and I want to know why.
Like you sound like one of the worst youth coach,
youth sports moms you possibly could be. I get it,
I understand. I understand the frustration with this situation. I
get it. But this is not something that anybody outside

(38:23):
of Jason Tatum and Steve Kerr and his assistant coaches
in the team should be involved with.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
This isn't on the court thing.

Speaker 1 (38:30):
This is that this is no place for a mom,
a dad, a husband, a wife, a brother, a sister,
whatever it is.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
I mean, Jackson Mahomes will disagree.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
But whatever it is, there is no I mean you
just all you're gonna do is make it worse. And
here's a situation where all right, the United States has
one more day to go, right, Steve Kerrz has has
piloted this thing masterfully. We're one day away from playing
for the gold medal. I get that players are and happy,
they're grousing. Maybe they won't come back in four years
in LA. I get that, but we're one day away. No,

(38:58):
here comes somebody's mom with, Hey, it's unacceptable that my
son isn't playing, Like, really, you need this. You need
this at this point, right now, right before the gold
medal game. Because what you're showing is I just care
about that. It doesn't matter anything else. I'm gonna show
you that. It's just like U sports, I don't care
if we win. My kids gotta play.

Speaker 4 (39:15):
Yeah. Look, if she didn't have enough, she doesn't need
to do anything. That's that's the biggest thing. A lot
of times you're taking up for your kid, your brother, whatever,
and you might be you know, privy. Just there's a
little bit of noise, right, there's a little bit of
things within the individual city here, it's a global phenomenon

(39:36):
with many talking heads with their you know, steam coming
out of their ears, pissed for Jason Tatum. Mom doesn't
need to say anything, Just sit back and have a
tasty beverage because you got a bunch of other folks
being hot heads and doing the dirty work for you.
In the end, he's gonna get his gold medal and
everybody's gonna move on. Does it potentially cause them albums

(40:00):
in future Olympics getting guys to show up? Hey, am
I gonna get playing time? Or am I gonna get
Tatum to I mean that's gonna be a thing. Or
am I gonna get Hallim Burton? And I'm the point
I'm the point guard, but I don't actually get to
go run point at all.

Speaker 1 (40:14):
Like Steve's gonna is gonna see this like it is
youth sports going okay, better playing in the next game.
His mom's gonna get match she He's gonna go to
the board. I'm gonna have to have a meeting on Friday.
I'm gonna have to go down to the field when
I'm not I don't have time to go to the
field Fridays have that meeting out of town. This is
I mean, this is this is where you're at now,
this is this is the the youth league level stuff

(40:35):
that's going on with USA Olympic basketball team.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
Like I said, never works.

Speaker 4 (40:39):
Yeah, I chuckled just at Steve Kerk, going, well it's
a math problem. It's like, well, you still have forty
minutes to work with and five slots coming up.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
Next, we'll tell you who's gonna win the gold medal
game between the United States and France, and we break
down the Steelers' debut of Justin Fields.

Speaker 3 (40:55):
Give it right here, Jason and Mike. This is Fox

Speaker 3 (41:56):
We saw Justin Field's debut for the Deelers tonight. Buddy.
How weird was it seeing him playing for the Steelers.
But I mean you've watched him succeed and not succeed
for you for the past few years. What was it
like for you?

Speaker 4 (42:08):
It is an odd situation. It's kind of like when
Mitchell went away and was displaced and just keep going
on down the line. I mean, it's been a veritable
congo line of quarterbacks well for my entire life. As
soon as you get comfortable with the guy and think
all right, the ability nah, he's gone. You think about
the greatest quarterback seasons outside of luckman. I'll make the

(42:31):
joke myself. I mean, you're looking at Eric Kramer as
your leader in terms of yardage and single season things.
Him and Cutler are the two guys that cut through.
So yeah, that's where we're at. So seeing him in
a Steelers uniform, I wish him well.

Speaker 1 (42:48):
Joining us down the hot line of guy we always
wish well. Longtime NFL Insider, Pro Football Hall of Very
Good voter. He lives on sponge cake. He lives on Frescaritas.
He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two. It is
Jason Cole. What's happening, bud.

Speaker 8 (43:08):
Oh, It's a beautiful, beautiful Friday night. Here, made carnitas
for dinner. Nice, had a couple of nice drinks. I'm
lived I'm lived up. Let's do this. Let me help me,
let me it was my favorite record of the week.

(43:29):
What you got.

Speaker 3 (43:33):
Well, we have new walk up music for you. What
do you think?

Speaker 8 (43:37):
I actually, I gotta be honest with you. I age.

Speaker 4 (43:42):
There it is.

Speaker 8 (43:46):
I'm evil. Wow, I'm just totally evil for this. But
I just don't get it. I really don't get it.

Speaker 3 (43:55):
Wow.

Speaker 8 (43:56):
On Fridays when I was in college, on Fridays we
walked back from class. It was about four o'clock in
the afternoon, and on these giant speakers here because it
was the eighties and you had to have six foot
tall speakers and stuff like that, right, And so they
would just blaugh either Baba O'Reilly or Jimmy Buffett every

(44:18):
single Friday. And it took me twenty years before I
could listen to Baba O'Riley again. And I still haven't
gotten over Jimmy Buffett. I just it's just sucking bon brain.
I can't do it. But I do believe in drinking
his favorite drinking.

Speaker 3 (44:33):
Okay, so note to sell I mean I'm in.

Speaker 8 (44:36):
I'm in strong agreement on that one.

Speaker 4 (44:38):
The wrong strong agreement caught. Yeah, I caught that.

Speaker 1 (44:42):
The walk up music for Jason Coles Martin Riteville. The
walk off music is Baba O'Reilly, got it okay, perfect,
very nicive.

Speaker 8 (44:51):
Frotzburg's going, Okay, We're ready.

Speaker 3 (44:53):
Pete Townshend singing that song. I can't believe you got
Pete Townsend taking it up all right.

Speaker 1 (44:57):
So, uh, you know, Harmon and I were just talking
about how weird it was for him to not see
Justin fields, alternate good plays with head scratchers like we
did with the Steelers tonight.

Speaker 3 (45:08):
At what point does he wind up starting for them?

Speaker 1 (45:10):
Because like I feel like it's just gonna happen, But
at what point is it really going to happen.

Speaker 8 (45:15):
I haven't looked at their schedule yet, because you want
to know when is Russell Wilson going to screw up?
So if I'll do it for you, Okay.

Speaker 4 (45:27):
Let me let me pull that back up.

Speaker 3 (45:29):
Week one, the Jets, Week two, the Jets, three, the Jets, Week.

Speaker 4 (45:32):
Four, the Jet week Week one, Falcons on the road.

Speaker 8 (45:38):
It should be okay. There.

Speaker 4 (45:39):
Week two back in Denver to face the Broncos.

Speaker 8 (45:43):
He'll screw that up. Go ahead.

Speaker 4 (45:46):
Week three, you got the Chargers at home.

Speaker 8 (45:54):
It should be okay.

Speaker 4 (45:55):
Week four at the Colts, should be okay. Week five,
Jerry Jones at home.

Speaker 8 (46:05):
He'll be jack for that game. They'll be all right.

Speaker 4 (46:09):
And when they get the Raiders.

Speaker 8 (46:12):
Yeah, when does it get into division play? When does
it get tough? One?

Speaker 4 (46:15):
Well, that's the thing. It's late and you get the Raiders,
then they get the Jets, then they have the Giants,
then the Commanders. They don't play the Ravens till November seventeenth,
followed by the Browns Bengals. Browns right out of that.

Speaker 8 (46:30):
But see with that schedule, you can see them hanging
out in that division until they have to play some
make or break games against really good defensive teams. And
so I say, if you put the under over eight
and a half games for Russell Wilson, which is a

(46:52):
tough one, I say he hits the over on that.
I say he gets the week nine or ten.

Speaker 3 (46:58):
Okay, close, Okay, So you.

Speaker 8 (47:01):
Can see justin field until the second because when the
Steelers also really want to shocking, shocking goal here, just
make the playoffs, right, and because they've got this, they've
got a championship calimber defense. But you know, the offense
has been so inept that I think they want to

(47:24):
go with a guy that they can believe in, and
for now, they don't believe in Russell Wilson until he
screws it up. And there's enough games that I don't
think he can really truly screwed up that badly until
you get to division games. When we get Ravens Bengals, Browns,
like those games get rough that those are the ones

(47:45):
that are going to test Russell Wilson more than anything else.

Speaker 1 (47:49):
So Week eight, Week nine for Russell Wilson. We watched
Michael Pennock Junior have his debut tonight. What week for
Michael Pennock Junior? Week eight, Week nine, Week five?

Speaker 8 (47:57):
That could be that, Well it's Kirk Cousins and you
just want to know, like when does Kirk Cousins have
some like weird breakdown realizing like that, Oh, the people
in Atlanta don't like me? Why is that? Why? Why
don't people here like me? Because they want the guy

(48:20):
who might actually be really really really good, not the
guy who's like league average.

Speaker 1 (48:26):
If he runs out of Cole's cash.

Speaker 8 (48:30):
Old cash is very important. It keeps you coming back.
It definitely keeps you coming back.

Speaker 3 (48:35):
They're Cousins in Cole's cash. What are you talking about this?

Speaker 4 (48:39):
That's a lot of Cole's cash.

Speaker 8 (48:42):
There is definitely a lot of Cole's cash. Now I
think that I think Cousins is going to be good
enough to get the weapons involved. So you've got you know,
you've got London, got Robinson, You've got Pitts and he's
a good enough quarterback that the ball is going to

(49:03):
go to place. You know, like they're going to feed
those guys enough times that the offense is going to
look a lot better and they may be able to
get away with the excuse that the defense is just
not good enough and sort of ignore the fact that
Cousins it's not good enough to take you over the top, right,

(49:23):
Like it's not to make able to make up for
what the offensive deficiency is. So I think he holds
on for a lot place, but the gate guarantee him
a lot of money.

Speaker 4 (49:32):
I just.

Speaker 8 (49:34):
This is the whole problem. Yeah, Like I like Michael Penix,
but why did you do this? Why did you do
this to Cousins And why did you do this to Pennick?
Why did you do it to either guy to put
him in this kind of problematic situation where it's not
even we're week one of preseason and people want to
know when Cousins are going to be out. That's how
bad this is.

Speaker 4 (49:55):
No, we moved the cycle up because they become a
darling and then Pennis hays a cup, the big throws
and plays and people get excitable. That's what we do.

Speaker 8 (50:04):
It's either I wish they would I wish they had
just drafted pendants. I mean, obviously they would have put themselves.
They would have cornered themselves if they didn't sign cousins beforehand,
and they would have gone into the draft with everybody knowing, oh,
they have to take quarterback, so we're going to leverage
them out of their minds. I get that, but this

(50:27):
is not the answer, you know, like, oh, look, we're
gonna we're gonna zig when everybody else is nagging on it,
and we're going to take two quarterbacks that never worked out.
It just doesn't work.

Speaker 3 (50:43):
We're gonna take two quarterbacks.

Speaker 8 (50:45):
Watch this, Yeah, watch how this works? Yeah, we remember
just how it worked out in Dallas with Akmunt Walsh.
Wasn't bad genius. Oh, let's go back to the days
of Stawback and Moreton. That was classic, wasn't it. I mean,
come on, how many times does he have to do
this to know this is a bad idea. It's a

(51:06):
really bad idea.

Speaker 4 (51:07):
Hey speak, speaking of Dallas, let's go to Jerry Jones
says he's got no urgency on Lamb. Right, you got
a contract and you have the franchise tags at your disposal, Lamb,
relapse at it. Dak comments on it, Uh, when's he
break them off more money? And revert to old Jerry Jones.

Speaker 8 (51:29):
Right, Like this is what drives me crazy about the
Cowboys And do fans ever see through this that Jerry
just wants to so much be the center of attention
that he makes the negotiations a a you know, a
part of the soap opera, like this is part of

(51:50):
the this is if you were if you were writing
a script, you go, oh, the CD Lambbee story. This
is a great one. We're going to really work this. Hey,
hobbads is winning some games? Did you just focus on
winning some games? And maybe you should pay your best players,
the guys who work the hardest for you, the guys
who set the tone for how your organization is going

(52:13):
to be run. The guys who, like everybody else, looks
at and says, hey, dude, are you happy being here?
And instead that guy's looking around going what do you think?
What do you think? I'm happy? You think I'm happy
that Jerry Jones is paying with my life? Do you
think that I got then? I'm happy that every single
week I go out on the field worried about whether

(52:36):
I'm going to have a career ending knee injury, and
I'm freaked out about that more than I'm focused on
how well should I play? And people out there think,
oh no, they're out there, they're not thinking about contracts.
Every one of those guys when they're in contract peers,
is thinking about contracts. They're freaking out before games, going

(52:57):
please don't let me get hurt, because I'm about to
make life changing money.

Carmen live from the tirerac dot Com studios. All right,

Jones continues to show us on the new Jerry Jones.

Speaker 3 (53:16):
Uh week one.

Speaker 1 (53:18):
Yeah, you know, some starters are going to play, some
starters aren't gonna play.

Speaker 3 (53:22):
What do you inch didn't see in the most this weekend?
Like what what do you what do you want to see?
The mother? What's the one thing they say? You know what?
This is the this is the one thing week one
in the preseason that I'm innterted in seeing.

Speaker 1 (53:33):
I mean, maybe maybe it's how good of the Jets,
and maybe that's what it is, just how great the
Jets are.

Speaker 3 (53:37):
And if that's the answer, that's all. But outside of that.
What is it?

Speaker 8 (53:44):
It's the preseason. I don't look forward to any part
of it.

Speaker 3 (53:47):
Boom, Mike Carmon. Mike Carman would fight you. As Jesus.
I celebrate every single game in the catalog.

Speaker 8 (53:55):
And what else only, But it's only good when the
game don't really count when you're a Bears fan, and
it shouldn't be the same way if you're a Jets fan, right, Like,
this is the only time where you really enjoy it
because there's no heartache associated with these games, like they
just happen and there's all promise and there's no like
dealing with reality that, oh the team sucks. Wait a second,

(54:19):
oh oh we we're not going to win the division.
We're not going to make the playoffs again. Like that's
that's what it's like to be a Jets fan. You
look forward to the preseason because you can't get hurt.
You really can't get hurt as a fan. Your players
might get hurt, but as a fan, you can't get hurt.

Speaker 3 (54:37):
But that hurts me as a fan. If my players
get hurt, that hurts me as a fan.

Speaker 8 (54:42):
Okay, you're not supposed to go along with this. The
thing I really the thing I always look at forward
to in precason is how do rookies and young guys
play when the lights are on? That's that's the thing
I looked at. There's a little bit of offensive line

(55:04):
play with the first unit if it's out there, like
how and thinker those guys are, you know, do they
look like they're ready for the regular season? The rest
of it, you know, you're you're really looking at individual
players and analyzing is there does the team have two
three or do they have like six to ten open

(55:26):
spots in their roster? And when you're talking about six
to ten open spots, you're talking about teams that are
in full rebuild. I remember Jimmy Johnson in nineteen ninety
six when he took over with the Dolphins, right it's
like he it was it was a blood bath during
preseason because everybody was competing for what seems like fifteen

(55:46):
open spots on that roster, and he was going to
keep anybody and everybody who would just fight and play hard.
So there was a lot of competition. It was exciting
to watch at that time. But when you have a
competitive team like you're the forty nine ers, I've been
after forty nine ers practice and they're really good. You
watch them, they move fast, everything looks terrific, and you

(56:09):
know this is going to be a very good competitive
team to make a run at the super Bowl. Again,
who knows, we'll see what happens. They're deep, but they're
really worried about, like, let's not get hurt, like Trent Williams,
like Kyle Shanahan's like, don't come in, don't pretend that
you're holding out. Don't come in. Don't come here, and

(56:30):
we don't want to see you because I don't want
you to do anything that might affect your ankles. Don't
be here right Like, That's that's how they look at this.
Don't get hurt. And that's what happens with the established teams.
That's why there's not much competition. They maybe have one
or two three jobs available at all that the roster
is pretty said, so it's anti climatic and appreciation.

Speaker 4 (56:53):
He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two.

Speaker 3 (56:56):
