Speaker 3 (00:45):
He is the way tire buying should be well.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Coming up in a few minutes, we'll have a little
bit on the big race in the NLS.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
The Dodgers' lead is shrinking by the day.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
The Diamondbacks and the Padres, they're just never gonna lose.
I don't think either of them have lost since the
All Star break. I'm sitting here going you know, they
were tied with the Mets for that Thirdish wildcard and
now they're like six games up on everybody. They just
keep winning, and the Dodgers just keep winning and looking
they've been the Dodgers have still been a five hundred
(01:21):
team for the last two and a half now going
on three months. Man, this is danger time.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
They're looking at being a wild card because all the
all the Diamondbacks and the Padres do are getting better
and and and hitting their peek and and the Dodgers
just continue to just yeah, we're kind of wait until
we get guys back and hoping that this is gonna
work out.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Man. That ain't how it's done, man, that is not
how it's done.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Well, we just hit another point and tonight another example,
Walker Buehler comes back, can't get through the fourth. You're
into the bullpen once again, and even with Mookie bleeping
Bets back in the lineup, you still have some holes there.
But the pitching just as you know it's the one
guy comes back revolving door. Hey, here goes another to
(02:06):
the il. So it's a difficult proposition. We'll get deeper
into remaining schedules and potential chaos.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
But look, two big NFL stories today. The first one,
JJ McCarthy will have more on that coming up later
on this hour. But Brandon Ayuk again, I mean for right,
first thing before we get to the big take on this.
We find out today that Brandon Ayuk and the Steelers
(02:35):
or the forty nine Ers and the Steelers have a
deal in place for Brandon Ayuk. They also are trying
to sign the guy. Brandon Ayuk was also at practice today. Okay,
you know what, dude, guys, make up your mind. I'm
done with this story. I'm dying because just get tender.
He's eight because he's not Aaron Rodgers, he's not Lamar Jackson.
(02:55):
He doesn't get to dominate this kind of conversation, especially
when Hey, here's a trade for you.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
It's open.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
You can go to the team you wanted to go to.
You know you wanted to be a Steeler. No, it's
still there, but we still want to sign you. Okay,
I'm holding out. No, now I'm holding in because I
was at practice today. Dude, guys, make up your mind.
Forty nine Ers, I make up your mind. I need
to be the dad here. I need to be the
dad come in and say, hey, guys, stop with this silliness. Okay,
make up your mind. This is not the great hold.
This is not Tom Brady holding out. This is not
(03:22):
Lebron James holding out. This is Brandon Ayuk, who is
a really good wide receiver. But guys, the solution has
been here. You've had three trade You've agreed with three
teams on trades, yet still we want to sign you.
And no, I don't want to go to any of
those teams. But I don't want to play here either,
But I'll be at practice today. Come on, nobody knows
the hell they're doing. This is just this is just
publicity for publicity's sake. Figure things out and let's move on. Oh,
(03:44):
it gives us something to talk about there, there's plenty
to starting to talk about it. We could talk about
the We could talk about the White Sox intentionally walking
Wan Soto to get to Aaron Choe.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
But again, everybody's jumped on board the White Side for
the last week. They haven't watched a single game or
a single frame or suffered with it at all. All
of a sudden it became, oh, look they're at twenty
games in a row.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Well they get twenty one and like.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
You know, go away, so beat it is what I
say to that, and yes, the walking Soto to get
to judge who's hotter. Let's see, can we pitch to
anybody else in the lineup? How about we walk them
both and move on from there. Sorry, psychologically, this is
damning even though you know what's coming. Get to the
(04:32):
seventh inning with a narrow lead, because again it's two
to one. It's not a ten to two lead. No,
it's ten tow loss. But it was not a ten
two lead that they suddenly bleue. No, they had a
one run lead. It was as the Thanos snap, inevitable.
But the I you thinks fill in time man in
preseason games.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
I'm just gonna wait.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Just let Aaron Rodgers do a podcast man. At least
we'll get crazy s out there.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Yeah, but you want I don't want to talk about him.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
I'd rather talk about Willie Herwoni with Brandon Ayu, exciting
with you know, a Super Bowl favorite versus the Jets.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
But when it comes down to this.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
It's it's just a lot of swirling and doing nothing.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
And there is a lot of swirling, there's a lot
of slow, there's a lot of.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
But in the end, when there's there's no other massive
stories out there and and individually there are and all
those markets and all the affiliates where we are nationwide,
and we'll get back to McCarthy. So we've got Minnesota.
I know we've got interested observers and listeners there, But
go into all the other markets. I know you all
have your own stories. Who's going to be, you know,
(05:39):
the the backup right defensive end, who's going to be
the third running back in the rotation? Those are all good,
but from a national perspective, the big stories, the big hitters.
When we're talking about a Super Bowl favorite and a
wide receiver who's trying to figure it out. You know,
I really like it here, but you're gonna have to
(06:00):
he's trying to figure it out.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
He's wanted to be traded since February. I mean, he
wants to.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
Get paid and he's trying to use the trade as leverage.
All right, that's all it is. But this is where
you know, you look at a group of people and
something's going wrong. Pick pick whatever your problem is, and
nobody steps up. Well, that guy might not be the
best guy to step up and be the guy. You say,
all right, he's going to be the leader. And in
(06:26):
this case, the guy we're gonna talk about to use
the analogy, but he's at least being active. For Brandon Ayuk,
his inactivity is a game for us, all Right, you.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Want to get big, Let's get big. You want to
get let's get bigger. Let's get serious about this. Okay,
if you trade Brandon Ayuk, if you're the forty nine Ers,
understand this. No matter what happens, this is your last
year of being a big super Bowl favorite.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
This is it.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
The run you've had the last couple of years has
been great, but this is your last year of being
a big super Bowl fager?
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Right now? Or Chief teams? Right?
Speaker 1 (07:07):
But right now, the two teams favored to get to
the Super Bowl are the Chiefs and the forty nine Ers,
And why not?
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Right?
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Both have great rotters, both made it there last year.
But what happens after this year? After this year? Christian
McCaffrey's twenty nine, thirty years old, Trent Williams is thirty
seven years old.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Is he's still gonna be the same.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Most importantly, Brock Party is gonna get paid. And it's
not quite where he just is a complete free free agent.
But he's gonna get sixty million dollars a year. The
Niners have said, we're ready to pay to keep him.
We know we got to pay to keep him. Let's say,
brock perty all, I'll take a little bit less, so
you pay him fifty million dollars to make him happy.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Right.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
You could really beat jerks if you want to and say, Okay,
we're just gonna pay you the bare minimum we have
to and then we'll pay you in full in two years.
But you don't want to do that to a quarterback.
You don't want to make your quarterback up set where
he walks out.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
So what we're gonna say, You don't want to make
him wimpy in the pop.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
I will gladly pay you tuesday for a touchdown today.
So you know they're gonna give him money. So that's
fifty million dollars that you can't pay out to an
edge rusher or a shutdown corner, or a middle linebacker
or a tight end whatever. Who knows if George Kittle's
still gonna be great after this year. But the bottom
line is you have an aging roster where your best
(08:21):
players are getting older, and you gotta pay your quarterback.
Now that's gonna be upwards of forty or fifty, maybe
sixty million dollars.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
You can't build a great roster. You have to hope.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
You have to say, okay, we have our quarterback. We
got to hope that our quarterback is just so good
that he covers up everything else, which is why the
Chiefs keep winning because, yeah, Mahomes took a little bit
less money, but he's still getting paid a ton, but
he covers everything else up because he's that great. The
forty nine ers are gonna have no choice but to
pay brock Purdy. They have no drug. The guy's been fantastic.
(08:52):
He fits with what they do, his image, his personality there,
everything works, so you know they're gonna pay him. It's
impossible to put together there is super Bowl favorite. When
you're paying a guy that kind of money, you have
to have a you have to have a guy that
transcends the sport like Mahomes does. Now does this mean
the Niners are suddenly gonna stink? No, But every year
instead of being a big, overwhelming super Bowl favorite, they're
(09:14):
just gonna be one of many teams that has great
postseason hopes. That's that's a step down on the tier ladder,
right from a right now, they're at the time, it's
them and the Chiefs the top, and they're looking down
at everybody else. After this year, the Niners are going
to be in the mix with a lot of other
teams going, hey, maybe for us. Right, So, knowing that,
knowing all that that this is your last year to
(09:34):
have it, do you really want to trade Brandon Ayuk
or do you really want to find a way to
make it work for at least this year?
Speaker 5 (09:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (09:40):
I don't think.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
I don't think they've ever wanted to trade, right, But
he wants out.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
He's made a combative, they've made looks, they've made situations,
they've made deals, they've they've figured out trades with other
teams because he's mad. There, I get it. But at
this point, now he's back at practice and and and
you've had three deals that he hasn't said yes to.
When any one of the these deals is gonna be
teams that want to give him the money he wants
at this point, shouldn't the best thing be, hey, let's
(10:07):
try to convince you to stay, because if you leave,
you're in a go for it season without your best
wide receiver. Because who knows if Ricky Piersol, is any
good Deebo has been a gadget guy. You're lying even
more on Christian McCaffrey. Ayuk is a really good receiver man.
He helps make the team go. He's a guy that
makes everything else defensively possible. You got to wind up
(10:27):
doubling him and put more attention on his side of
the field.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
You have to do that.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
We want to do that, Ricky Piersoll, you don't have to.
As I said, Deebo's a gadget guy. He's not a
guy that's gonna blow you away and catch twelve passes
a game. Suddenly your offense is really struggling. So just
knowing that, knowing that after this year it gets really
hard to win the Super Bowl, be a favorite to win,
but where everybody wants to be. Do you really want
to do it without Brandon Ayuk or should you hold
(10:51):
on to him? Just something out to get this thing
to come to a finish as soon as possible. What's
the best outcome for this To keep Brandon ayuker trade
Randon ayuk.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Of course, it's to keep him.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
There's no question about You're not getting anything commensurate in return.
Although of all organizations save a few obvious misfires, including
going back to twenty seventeen when they patted themselves on
the back a little bit too much in that whole
Trubisky deal. How many NFC teams are really running up
(11:23):
on them that will stay there because oh those teams
have already paid their quarterbacks too, and they're right there,
they're that second tier. But the point being, you.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Can never go to Dallas again after that, they're right there.
You go, what is he saying about?
Speaker 1 (11:36):
You can never go to Dallas again after saying what
you just said, can't do it. You can't even fly
through Dallas on a connection somewhere else. They'll be waiting
for you, just like in the Simpsons with Lyle Lanley.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
There he is seed seven. Ce go get him that.
You can't fly through Dallas after But.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
They get it right, like it's the organization where you've
seen them actually do some pretty good work overall.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
Now, will they have some big holes?
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Because you got to talk about Trent Williams and being
thirty six, right, So there's gonna be a bunch of
component parts that you're gonna have to change out. But
for the purpose of this conversation, in this moment in time. Yeah,
there's the bringing in anybody else to replace him is
going to fail. You trust Shanahan's offense and whatever they do.
(12:20):
In the next iteration with Purdy at the helm, I think,
but you look at the rest of the favorites up
top right, Chiefs are with them.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
Next you've got the Ravens.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
Then you've got the Lions and the Eagles, both guys
have gotten paid. Then you got CJ. Stroud, Then you
got Joe Burrow in the Bengals, Josh Allen, Jets coming
in at twenty to one. Packers are about the same,
and then the Cowboys are floating down there as well.
Did you think the Cowboys are gonna suddenly get better? No,
they're not a threat. The Lions. Maybe maybe that's a
(12:52):
machine that can start rolling the Eagles. They're slap fighting
with each other, trying to make the stories from the
offseason go away.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Do we believe that that's gonna happen? Maybe? Maybe not.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
There are all your NFC content and the Packers go
do their thing, right, They're the one team that you
circle and say cool.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
Yeah, and they paid Jordan Love, they got their guy right. Yep. No,
they did well.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
But they paid him, but they haven't had to pay
anybody else yet to the point, right, so you paid him,
but your combined wide receiver room is making it combined
combined eight million dollars.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Eventually the chickens come home to roosts there too.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
So when we're talking about contenders, I don't know if
the window necessarily shuts all the way, but maybe maybe
it's a little breezy, so you close it a little bit.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Exit out about a Fresca exit Swallen Dome The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmen live from the tirec dot

Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Harmon livethetirag dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
You know, to pull the curtain back a little bit here.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
Uh, my daughter goes to school and and all her
friends in the performing arts. There's one of the one
of the kids performing arts. His name is Timmy, and
every time she says his name, I'd always go. She says,
why do you keep doing that?
Speaker 3 (16:30):
Dad?
Speaker 1 (16:31):
You always every time I said, oh, who's gonna be
there this weekend? Well, I think uh uh Iris is
gonna go, and Sachi and and Sarah and Timmy, and
I just go, dimn man.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
It's like I can't help it. Like she says his
name and I can't not say Timmy.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
I got problems, man, I got I got problems of
any time I can't just hear the name and not
let it go. It's like the Steve Carell with the
that's what she said, Like I can't let it go.
Like anytime I hear the name Timmy, I just have
to say, dimn man.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
I got problems. Man. She's gonna get you man at something.
And now you got her in the performing arts, this
is gonna go. This go well for you. I got issues.
Are you running lines with her now or what? Oh?
We run lines all the time.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
We in fact, we feel like I said, okay, we
need to figure out what our text is gonna be,
like when she starts going cause she's only gonna be
a sophomore this year, Like when you start going out
with your friends who are driving. Is something's going on
that that you don't like, but you don't wanna cause ways,
we need me to come pick you up. Like we
have to figure out what our text is gonna be.
Like to figure it out, she goes, what if? What
(17:37):
if it's just an X? And I go, oh, no,
that's what if. You know, it's just so we figured
out our our our thing is gonna be. I want
diying right justice dhing, and I'll type back and anyone
but Mags the first one out of the pen.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
And if she and that's what I know, I gotta
go pick her up somewhere.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
The time for me to go get her when we
run a line from Moneyball, if she starts the line
and I finish it, then we go and that and
that's my thing to go get her.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
You know you've always accused me of, I don't know,
problematic film watching with my children. I think sitting your
daughter down and forcing her to repeatedly watch Moneyball.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
No, she loves Moneyball.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
I don't know that's it didn't see like the Chaos
movie see but here there when when COVID happened, Right
when COVID happened, we you know, and and we're home.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
All the time.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Like her movie education began, like because we watched all
the movies we wanted her to see and everything, and
so we watched so may and you know, then she
started to gain a love for performing arts and all
this stuff. Okay, great, you know great, But like all
the movies, I'm like, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. And now
there gets a point where sometimes I'll run a line
and she go, no, Dad, he doesn't say that. He
doesn't say he doesn't say he doesn't say that. He
(18:42):
says this, like no, he says this, And I'll go
back and go, oh, she's right. Okay, boy, I've been
running that line for twenty years and okay I was
just slightly wrong.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
Like instead of saying look, we also had to we
had to figure out lyrics on our own back in
the day. Yeah, you can't just look at all because yeah,
now you can look it up everywhere and get the
actual line instead of of you know, uh, you know,
there's a bathroom, you know, on the right or on
the side. I mean, look, come on, now, now you
actually know what they say, and sometimes it's far less interesting.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Yeah, instead of saying I am your father, no dad,
he says, no, Luke, I am your father. No, okay, okay,
wait to go back. I'm like, okay, all right, it
doesn't matter. But now she gets me on that and
I'm like.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
Okay, you're it versus letter of the law. I'll give
this to you.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
And she says why, I said, because I have a
job and a family and a mortgage. So I'm okay,
there's a lot more stuff in my head, so I'll
give you that. Understand that I have that going on.
All right, Wow, he.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
Really played those cards. Who's the adult here? Have more
important things?
Speaker 3 (19:39):
I gotta play that. No, No, it's just an other.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
Than you class work.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
I just want to say, no, other things are in
my head too, you know, I get that there are.
Speaker 4 (19:48):
Jets, demons and whatever would be the comeback from her.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
I mean, I mean, look, I gotta spend half the
day figuring out who are the right pictures the Mets
are going to bring it out of the bullpen tonight.
That takes up a lot of time and I don't
always get it right. But you know what, Carlos Mendoza
doesn't get it right either, So it's okay.
Speaker 4 (20:04):
How many times do you text Morosi in a given week.
Hey tell sternsy, oh.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
No, no, no, no, no, I I really was gonna
done well. I did.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
I did send him the note today saying, hey, I
really look forward to seeing how the Mets bounce back
after that ridiculous Austin Adams thing last night, Like, because
that was just a load of crap, him making fun
of the Mets. OMG, because he's mad they cut him
two years ago and he's yelling and calling him mfr
is off the mound and all this stuff, and I'm like, Okay,
(20:32):
they'll get And what do they do tonight? They pounded
the ace. Tonight Lindor hit a home run. He's doing
the OMG celebration around the bases, Like, maybe I got
to thank Austin as Hey, thank you. We were in
the doldrums of August. We're we're falling out of the
third wildcard. Thank you for waking us up. That may
wind up being the best thing that happened to the Mets.
Thank you for being such a ridiculous jerk on the mound,
(20:53):
coming off the field and yelling and cursing. Hey, that
woke the Mets up, Thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
And he forced at least one extra person at the
MLB headquarters to watch the game after what Edwin Diaz
said postgame, for fear that there was going to be
some potential brawl and eventual punishments needing to be handed.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
Out, I got to watch the Mets and the A's.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
Really, yes, there's something that could happen the Mets in
the A's and he made threats and it's not a
replay of the seventy three World Series. No, all right,
but you owe me for watching the Mets in the A's.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
You owe me, uh tarma.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Yeah, Look, there's a big stuff out of the NFL
today in addition to that, and I watching the Mets
lose to the A's tomorrow afternoon, like nine to one.
JJ McCarthy out for the season with the Minnesota Vikings.
We knew last night the potential for him to be
out for the season was there. They were going to
find out the damage to his knee that he hurt
last week in his NFL debut. Maybe it could be repairable,
(21:52):
he could be out a few weeks, or he was
going to be out for the year. When they went
into repair his knee ligament, it turned out to be
a rep that needs the whole year to heal. So
he has done until twenty twenty five. Sam Darnold is
taking over. Now I can give great advice, which I
will in a couple minutes out out to the vice
and anybody who loses a star player before the season begins.
(22:14):
I can tell you the best advice that will get
you through the season one hundred percause because I just
went through it.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
Man, I just went through it last.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
I had my season snatched away after four snaps, right,
and I'll tell you what got me through. It can
get you through. But first, another side of this story
is that we were just getting to the point of
NFL teams starting to play their stars a little bit
more in the preseason. Right when when the Rams won
(22:42):
the Super Bowl and they sat everybody in the preseason
catching everybody in the preseason, skuys are gonna have no reps.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
Oh the Rams won the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
Nobody plays anymore, And everybody says nobody plays.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
And it became a couple of years during the preseason of.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
Wow, there's not a lot to talk about because the
stars aren't playing.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
Nobody, Yeah, we can't.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
We can't talk about if a guy looks good, if
he doesn't. We can't do it because nobody that people
care about is playing. It's all and very specific to
the team you root for. Hey, I'm looking to see
what goes on it for the battle for outside linebacker.
But you know what, that that's not a that's not
that's not a national story, right. We need to see
the stars.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
So we were just getting by week one became sponsored
by Disney's Frozen and Into the Unknown.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
Yeah, I looks it and and and and I get
that part of it, and I understand.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
But we were just getting back to having stars play
because you've seen now the first week of the NFL
preseason more stars played than didn't even if they had
a cameo. They were in there for a series and
you saw them play. Now you think that's gonna happen,
forget it. You just watched a team basically have to
give away their season and give away a season of
(23:53):
development of their quarterback of the present and future because
he got hurt when extended playing time in the fourth quarter,
when in their planning he wasn't gonna play until at
least the middle part of the season. Like, what did
what purpose did it prove? They're saying to themselves. What
purpose did it prove to play JJ McCarthy for all
that time in the fourth quarter when really he's not
(24:15):
gonna play until week six, week seven, right like Darnold's
gonna play and McCarthy's gonna get used to the NFL
season and then he's gonna start. So when when you
see it from their perspective, what did that? What did
that help us? What did that help us playing him
so long? And who knows what wound up getting the
damage done? And now this is basically a season that
where we're sticking a fork in because not only are
(24:37):
we not gonna win, but a our guy that we
want to be our quarterback, he's not gonna play. His
experience and his advancement has now been held back, Like
why are we gonna do that? And I guarantee you
all the other teams in the NFL looking around going
the same thing, going, yeah, boy, that really didn't do
anything to have them play. And you're gonna see teams
over the course of this week, getting towards the weekend,
(24:58):
say hey, yeah, it's up in the air whether or
not Aaron Rodgers, Patrick mahomes Lamar Jackson throwing anybody aw
Dak Prescott where these guys are gonna play, and then
they're all gonna not play. They're all gonna not play
because the risk is not worth it, and they were
all reminded of it with JJ McCarthy's injury. So now
you're not gonna see it, and teams are also going
to say to add to that help that argument is
(25:19):
that we're gonna eventually be at eighteen games, which means
if the football is rough the first week of the
regular season, the football is rough. You know, it's gonna
be rough for everybody around the league because no one's
playing their stars in the preseason. So if football is
rough week one, we have a rough Week one, we
lose eighteen games. That's gonna be a lot. That's a
long time to get our season right. It's not where hey,
we start zering two when our season's over, right, which
(25:42):
is where it used to be, and you start, oh
and two, you're done eighteen games. Now you have a
lot of time. You have more time to get your
season right, to get to five hundred, to get over
five hundred. So when you throw all that stuff in,
you're gonna start seeing very quickly. Going back to that
trend of the stars and the name players are just
not gonna play.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
Yeah, it's too.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Bad because this week would have been fun, right, I
mean looking ahead to some of the games that are
on the schedule. I mean tomorrow Philly in New England.
What am I gonna get now?
Speaker 3 (26:07):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
You might get Ron Jaworski, that would be kind of Funningham.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
I mean Saturday, you got Atlanta at Baltimore, tickets as
low as five dollars.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
What do you like?
Speaker 1 (26:19):
You said five dollars. That's five dollars. That's a fight
dollar ticket right there.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
Five dollars.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
Actually a number of games if you ever want to
just go to an NFL stadium, here's your opportunity, folks.
Many games under ten dollars. Actually, there's only four games
that exceed ten dollars for a get in price, even
in Pittsburgh or here in Los Angeles. The battle between
the Rams and the Bolts as low as nine dollars.
(26:46):
See if Easton Stick can complete a pass?
Speaker 3 (26:49):
Oh do you? Every time you say that you make
me more and more nervous about lat mcconnor. No, No,
I mean I want.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
To feel good about I want I want you to
be the the used car. Still, it makes me feel
good about the car that I just bought. I want
to feel good about that.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
You know what's funny is I got an invite from
our guy Fabiano for the one league because he's moved
migrating between services, and because I already have an account
with that service, it logged me into the slow draft
of the rookies you're already doing. I'm like, what the
hell is this?
Speaker 3 (27:20):
I draft? Like, why does it say Jets? Sho It's
on my team? How are we doing?
Speaker 4 (27:27):
I'm like Fabiano, He goes, Oh, that's that's the other one.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
You must still be attached.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
To that league, all right? Scaring me here that I
missed several rounds of a draft Jets you.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
Now, look, let me be at the point where I
can now help the vikings.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
And self help time.
Speaker 1 (27:44):
No, I can cause I look, I want to be positive.
Look this is it's a tough day.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
You want to add a soundtrack for Jason as if
he's you know, like a I don't know, a spiritual
cleanser healer kind of guy.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
I want to be positive. Tiger's gonna do it himself. Look,
this is the here's from someone who just went through
this last year, right, I had my.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
Rip, I had my retreat at my season ripped out
for me. Well, let ty shirt finish, go ahead? What else?
I love being one with all? Can you one more?
Speaker 4 (28:26):
You?
Speaker 3 (28:26):
One more? Guys?
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Okay, I'm really into this right now, whole lot.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
I am one and one is all? So we are
we as I am. Did you just really drop a
rogue one on one with the force the forces with me?
Could you really just do that?
Speaker 5 (28:39):
We're gonna start dancing around to the forces with me?
His father, No, stop saying fake stup. Palpatine is not
Darth Vader's desk. I know it might seem that way,
but it's not.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
It's he's gonna retcon all of that to where that's
the case. I am more zen than you, so I
must be true. It is. It's it's not trust the
man who is not emotionally enraged. It's not I can
pick up rocks with my mind. Oh boy, okay, all right,
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that there, No,
I know you did.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
That's your fa I I really just thought he'd hit
a button and there'd be some like witch.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
COmON.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Nobody you knew, of course it was gonna be this,
but well, he already gave you.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
Everybody wants to rule the world.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
Here's the best thing I can tell you, right, Okay,
come on, if you lose your quarterback, your best player
before the season, trust me with Aaron Rodgers last year.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
Who's who's got it better than me?
Speaker 1 (29:33):
I can grief counsel you right now and for for
whether it's the Vikings, whoever else you are. Here's the
best thing to do. I get it. It's hard, it's depressing.
It's depressing to say, hey, our season just ended before
it really began.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
It sucks. I get it. I was just there.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
The best thing you can do is to just go
into complete and total denial. God, say blank, everyone, blank everything.
We're still gonna win. It doesn't matter who our quarterback is,
doesn't matter what. It doesn't matter if Sam Darnold is
throwing passes or doesn't matter. It makes no difference. We
are gonna win.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
And I am living in denial. I don't care.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
But all these other things are happening. Look how bad
your team is. And Addison got hurt to say it
doesn't matter, it doesn't matter. Justin Jefferson is gonna want
to trade catching passes from another backup quarterback doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
No, I am living in denial.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
You live in denial and think, no matter what happens,
things are gonna be good. That's gonna get you through
the rest of August in September, I promise you, because
that's what I.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Did with the Jets last year. I lived in denial.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
We ran that punt back for a touchdown to beat
the Bills, and I said, screw it. Without Aaron Rodgers,
we are still gonna win. We're full of motivation and
it doesn't matter because maybe Zach Wilson got better. And
that took me through September and then I realized it
wasn't gonna get better and Zach Wilson sucked. But still
I had most of September and into October after that
thinking that maybe it could work, and we beat the
(30:57):
Eagles and we almost set Nick Sirianni the deployment line.
We broke the Eagles last year. They're still broken. They
still can't get along after losing to us. Hey, okay,
that sustained me, and it will sustain you. Live in denial.
It will get you through August and at least September,
maybe longer. Living in denial is a great place to be.
(31:17):
When somebody gets hurt, it's like it didn't happen, and
it doesn't matter if it does, because someone's gonna lead
your team in touchdown passes, someone's gonna lead your team
in rushing touchdowns, someone's gonna lead your team and tackles.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
Just think that way and live in denial.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
There's gonna be a baseline of statistics earned that you
can distribute onto your fantasy squads, even with the worst.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
Logo on the side of the helmet. This much is true.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
And if all of that denial talk that Jason just
gave you doesn't work, you can always eat your feelings
for a little while.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
And in moderation to be smart about it. Out there people.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Exit out bout a fresca exit swollen down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carbon live from
the Tirack dot Com studios. We got more coming up
in ninety seconds, but right now, time to find out
what's trending in the wide world of sports.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
Is Kevin wired? Kay dub what do you got? Yeah? Everything? Tonight.
Speaker 7 (32:11):
Major League Baseball has concluded the Pennant races really taking
shape as we're now in the dog days of August.
The AL East one of the tighter races in baseball.
The Yankees beat the White Sox tonight. In the game
they trailed for much of the game, tended to, of course,
that wide margin not done by the Yankees until they
really put on the offense. In that eighth inning. Aaron
(32:32):
Judge a part of it as he hit another milestone
home run.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Three zero.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
Judge chives it deep left.
Speaker 6 (32:42):
Field, way back and gone goodbye on.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
A three old bitch.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
Judge Laser's home run number three hundred, the fastest ever
to hit that mark, and blows this one wide open.
Speaker 7 (32:58):
In the eighth the Yankees radio I work with the call,
so Aaron Judge the fastest player to reach three hundred
home runs in MLB history. And the Yankees victory, combined
with the Orioles win against the Nationals Baltimore one at
four to one, means that New York is still a
half game ahead of Baltimore for first plays in the
American League East. As for the NL West, the Dodgers
(33:21):
really feeling the heat now. The Diamondbacks and Padres both
red hot Arizona has now won twenty of their last
twenty five games, including an eleven to four victory against
the Rockies. Eugenio swore as a Grand Slam to help
propel the Snakes, and the Padres finish off a sweep
of the Pirates eight to two. San Diego has won
nineteen of their last twenty two. Elsewhere in Major League Baseball,
(33:46):
Royals beat the Twins for to one, Kansas City a
game and a half up in that final wild card spot,
Guardians beat the Cubs six to one, Phillies over the
Marlins nine to five in extra innings. It's the Tigers
holding off the Mariners three to two, Reds beat the
Cardinals nine to two, Astros of the Rays and Extras
two to one, and the Mets beat the Athletics nine
to one. NFL Matthew Judon going from the Patriots over
(34:12):
to the Atlanta Falcons as New England dealing him in
exchange for a third round draft pick, and JJ McCarthy
going to be out for the season after he had
surgery on his tourn right meniscus. But not all bad
news for the Vikings. Jordan Addison will be okay, Kevin O'Connell,
saying that after he injured his ankle and had to
be carried off the field that the wide receiver will
(34:32):
be good to go back to you guys.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
Thanks a much.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
Kate up The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Carmen live from the Tirack dot Com Studios. Coming
up next, we have the final word on what it
means when you can turn away one hundred million dollars
because you don't feel like working anymore.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
It's coming up next, Jason to Mike. You're listening to
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the Fox.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Carmon Live from the Tirec dot Com Studios. What's
it like to turn down an extra hundred million dollar
contract because you don't feel like working?
Speaker 3 (35:13):
We got that in a couple minutes. But a story
that looks like it's happening.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
Men and Blazers has reported this as as Hercules Gomez
that the US men's national team is set to hire
Mauricio Pocatino as their new head coach. Former Tottenham Spurs,
Paris Saint Germain also Chelsea manager until this year. Looks
like he will be the choice. They were talking to
(35:42):
him for a while to be the next men's next
coach of the men's national team, and you know, waiting
for this to be confirmed, but you had a couple
of sources talking about it and hey, if this happens,
great because I thought, I thought this search is gonna
take a while, because wow, I'll tell you, I don't
know how many people we are gonna really want this
job because it didn't look like a job that anybody
(36:04):
would want.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
This is why people say no, oh the United States job.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
Yeah, yeah, your house isn't really in order, So yeah,
I'm gonna say no to that right now.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
Well, but I mean everybody's had it in in their fields.
I mean all of you out there, whatever you do
for work, there's been maybe a whisper a chat at
some point, like thinking about where you might move to
and this, and it's like you start hearing behind the
scenes like well this that's like no, no, no, no,
I'm good. The opportunity costs and the potential headache becomes
(36:38):
far too much. And with the United States men's national team,
as we've chronicled for years on this show, you got
a lot of infrastructure questions, power struggles, all of those
kind of things to where it's not the most attractive job.
It should be right and name it's wow, this could
be huge. But then the reality becomes, well, what we
(36:59):
have and here's why all fans are gonna love it.
They're gonna say, is the coach's last name Burhalter? No?
Speaker 3 (37:05):
Then I love it great, let's go forward. Whoever it is.
Do you know anything about him? No?
Speaker 1 (37:10):
No, no, it doesn't matter. But I heard he's a
real physical coach and he read no. Does it makes
no difference? Is his name Burhalter? No, it's not that
we love it.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
We love it. It's gonna be great. It's gonna go.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
Back to Jigio Rena and all of that stuff that
we chronicled on the show and had to talk out,
all the lee leads and the back and forth, like
it's nice, a nice clean cut and a new adventure.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
So let's see.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Now, let's finish with this story involving Charles Barkley, who
went on Dan Levittard's podcast earlier today and said that
the reason he's staying at TNT with TNT losing the
NBA as they are, is because, well, if he went
someplace else, they would really ask him to work more.
And we told you weeks ago, Hey, Charles barkleyes, does
(37:56):
he want to stand up for people and keep their
jobs at TNT?
Speaker 3 (37:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (37:59):
Does he want to work with his friends yet? But
mainly Charles doesn't want to work hard. We told you
the reason he's talking about staying in TNT all these
things is because if anybody else hires him, he would
have to go someplace. They would say, Oh, you're not
just gonna show up for work forty five minutes before
you go on the air and then be done, be
gone five minutes after the show is over.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
Do that three nights a week. You got an easy,
cushy gig at TNT.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
If someone else hired you, whether it was Amazon or ESPN,
they'd want you on different shows and during the day,
and you'd have to work. We said this three weeks ago. Ah, well,
I don't know, Jason, maybe Charles is doing Yeah. Here's
Charles Barkley from earlier today on Dan Lebttard's podcast. This
(38:44):
is where you play Barkley from the Lebtard podcast.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
You know, I just don't think I want to take
the money.
Speaker 3 (38:49):
I think I want to stay back on my brother Lifehack. Wait.
Sylvester Stallone was on the Puttet No Tom Barkley you know, Adrian,
I don't know, No, I don't know. It's not it's nuts.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
Were part of the Philadelphia lore, you know, Adrian, you
know if I fight this guy, what kind of money
is we gonna do.
Speaker 8 (39:10):
It was a great feeling, and I want to thank
all those networks for reaching out to me. It was
really humbling and cool to be honest with you, even
though they were throwing crazy numbers. I was like, damn,
But as long as I got my people safe at TNT, man,
I feel really good. Like I say, they're gonna pay
me to go and talk about nothing, so I can't
look a give horse in the mouth before we wait, Dan,
(39:33):
I probably would have had to do an honest day's
work if I went to one or those other network.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
See, he's admitting they're paying me to talk about nothing.
I'm just showing up and they're giving me twenty million
dollars a year for the next whatever it is, seven
eight years, whatever is left in his contract. If he
went someplace else, they would want more of him. So
now he's saying, oh, yeah, yeah, hey, i'd have to
put it in honest days work, and I don't want
to do that, dah dad. I want to just continue
(39:57):
to mail it in and show up and work at
the very least amount possible. So we told you that
was a case, and that's right. And I'm not sitting
here saying, oh my god, Barkley's a bad guy. No,
everybody gets to a point in their lives where it's like,
you know what, I've been working a lot. I'm sixty five. Yeah,
I don't feel like going crazy anymore. I kind of
want to slow down a little bit. Is in Barkley's case,
(40:17):
he's wanted to do what he's done since he was
forty years old. But I want to keep doing this,
So yeah, I'm not gonna go crazy all the time
out to go nuts and go do other things. I'm
gonna continue to do the least amount possible. And that's
why I'm staying.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
Yeah, I think it comes down to the switching costs
that it was just referring to. You think about how
much extra effort you're gonna have to put for all
the new people you're gonna have to meet and work
with that you haven't known, because you're not necessarily bringing
all of those folks from TNT with you. And it
really kind of kills the narrative of TNT Jesus that
(40:51):
he keeps putting out. Sorry if you haven't seen Deadpool
with this part, I'm assuming.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
You don't care.
Speaker 4 (40:58):
But it's the idea that you know, he's he gets
to be with people he's comfortable with, he gets to
say whatever he wants. He let the He didn't pull
the curtain back to say, hey, they pay me to
talk about nothing. All people in sports and entertainment media
said what are you doing?
Speaker 3 (41:15):
What are you doing? Charles?
Speaker 1 (41:18):
And I do agree with you that now this is
he's taking every chance to say, oh, hey, I saved
a lot of people. Okay, dude, you were still talking
to other networks and they still you still talk to them,
and may you oh they I turned down hundreds of
millions of dollars, so you still went down the road
where you talk to them. So let's be honest. In
the end, if you wanted to go you actually talk.
(41:39):
You didn't say, no, I'm not talking to anybody I'm hearing.
Speaker 3 (41:41):
That's it. No, No, I'm retired, right.
Speaker 1 (41:43):
He didn't kind of quite do that Digit Charles. Yeah,
so this little bit, a little bit more of oh, hey,
look at this good thing I did.
Speaker 3 (41:49):
Look at this.
Speaker 4 (41:49):
Is he gonna come on our show and say the
same thing. No, I wanted to save all those people.
Look at all those people. They're all talented people, but
you know what, they couldn't get other jobs.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
Fight left. That's basically what he's saying.
Speaker 1 (42:03):
Exit out about of Fresco Exit swollen down The Jason
Smith Show.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
With my best friend Mike Harmon, my buddy Ben Mallar.
Speaker 1 (42:10):
Coming up next, This is Fox Sports Radio Matsio.
Speaker 3 (42:14):
Jason's going to eat a mcdouble
