into another big NFL story, a little bit more. It's
a little bit more on the jjmccarthy situation. Vikings rookie
stud quarterback out for the year. We find out today
after his knee surgery's gonna miss all of twenty twenty four.
The the Macro part of this, right, we got to
(01:11):
get about him, and I told you how to get
through it. Just livin denial. Still think everything is going
to be great.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
I like the Macro. I like that you're using those
teachings of this last decade.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Pay forward. The thing is and this is and this
is a and this is where you're going to get
And I can't blame anybody, right, I can't blame anyone
for this. But we were starting to see not quite
a comeback, but a little bit of a return to Eh,
let's have some regulars play in the regular in the preseason.
(01:43):
Some quarterbacks are gonna play a little bit, some big
running backs are gonna play. Why, some players are gonna
play in the We were starting to see it creep
back to that a little bit because once the Rams
won the Super Bowl a couple of years ago and
nobody played in the preseason, all we don't need these guys, Okay, great,
and then we had two years of boy, there's no
news because nobody is playing. Right. No, we gotta start
(02:03):
televising these joint practices. They're better than the bleeping games
on Saturday and Sundays. We were just starting to creep
back to that. And I'm telling you, after this news,
we're gonna go back to guys aren't playing. Young superstars
aren't gonna play. Maybe you'll get a cameo appearance here
and there for a series just to get them used
to it. But that trend of hey, maybe getting back
(02:23):
to seeing players play and seeing stars play, seeing quarterbacks play,
that's gonna end because you saw the Vikings say, oh, okay,
here's a guy that we were counting on being our
quarterback probably by week five, week six, middle of the season,
and we were gonna take you know, that was gonna
be it. We see what kind of guy we have?
What was the real benefit of giving him all kinds
(02:44):
of extended action? In week one of the preseason, they
gave him extended action and any tours acl So I
merely that that's kind of what teams are gonna look
at and say, why are we playing our guys? Like
why would Michael Pennix Junior play another series, you know,
or maybe more than one series right now? Why would
you do that to any of those guys? So I
think you're gonna start seeing an immediate pullback on players playing.
(03:06):
You're gonna see this weekend. Oh, hey, we thought we
were gonna see Bonicks. Nah, Bonix is not gonna play.
I know, but we don't need to see Bonis now
Aaron Rodgers, we thought, no, no, he's not gonna play.
You're gonna see teams pull back on that, and that's
gonna be the next phase is getting back to where hey,
stars aren't playing during the preseason because all you is
one reminder like this, and that's gonna change everybody's mind
back again.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Yeah, the curiosity, you know, in the knee jerk reaction,
how much the players push to play, because I mean
that was some of the groundswell, was that you had
Mahomes and Burrow and others who said, hey, I need
to get some reps your guy Rogers. How much of
it is pr versus reality You can sort it out there,
Jet guy, but a lot of it. You know, we
(03:49):
were excited that preseason games there was a reason to
tune in at least for a short spell. Right even
at the end of Hard Notch talking about, Hey, you
know we're gonna come back out, Sam mcgre for next week.
I'm like, I have more Caleb Williams. Eh, maybe he's
now stuck in a box.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Yeah, you don't see Caleb Williams. You don't see him
till week one. I didn't even want him in practice.
I just keep him home watching film. Hey, just play Madden,
work on your work, on your reflex. I don't even
want to see you in practice till week one. I
don't want you playing with your dog.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
I don't want you walking out to a swimming pool
where there might be a wet deck. Can't do it,
loose sight packaging for you back up on the wall.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
We'll have coaches come to your house and just douse
you with water while you're sitting on your couch. All right.
That that should that should curb your desire to go
into a pool where you could slip and fall.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Yeah, your VR halo will show up as well as
a foot massager.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
That's all we want you to feed up.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Yeah, that's even that.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
We gotta be careful because it could get too warm.
And if and if your thumb starts to get a
little sort of put it down, walk away, walk away
for five minutes.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
This is where you start waving your hands like you're
used in the force.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
You're all done, You're all done.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
The Jason Smithson with Mike carmon Live the I dot
Com Studios. We'll have more on the jjmccarthury story coming
up in about a half hour, because there's some potential
rumors that the Vikings might be going after somebody else quarterback.
But another day. You know what, I just gotta say,
I'm done keep Brandon Ayuk. Trade Brandon Ayuk. At this point,
(05:22):
I'm done. He's not Aaron Rodgers where we dominates. The
conversation every day is how you couldn't get traded? Is
he not? He's a really good wide receiver. Should he
deserve a thirty million dollar contract? Yes? Do the forty
nine ers want to pay him?
Speaker 4 (05:35):
No?
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Have they worked out some deals? Yes? Have they worked
out any deals that Brandon Ayuk wants? Not yet. Supposedly
there's a deal on the table with the Steelers, which
is his preferred destination. Yet for some reason, that's not
done yet. Why is that not done? You're not entering
into a negotiation to get Brandon Ayuk unless you know
you're gonna pay him thirty million dollars a year and
he's okay with going there? At like I'm done at
(05:57):
you know, I don't care if he stays or he
gets traded. At this point, I don't care. But just
make a bleeping decision. Can I just say this, He's
not Mahomes, He's not Lamar Jackson. He's not right. He's
not one of these guys that he needs to dominate
the conversation every single bleeping day. Man, you're Brandon Ayuk.
Make it, make a decision and move on.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
You know why he's dominating the decisions because we only
have preseason games a couple of days a week. Let's
make him seven days a week live action for all
of these quarterbacks and they're compelled to play. Then you
have your injuries, and you have your position battles. There
you go, Smith, all the stuff you just said of Hey,
it's gonna go away.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
Nope, this is why you need it.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
Otherwise it's Ayu Ayuk Ayuk and Jerry Jones and his
band of Merriman. That's all you got. That's all you
got right now are those two stories and.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Tj Ayuk Ayuk Ayuk is on fire. We don't need
a trade. Let this story slow burn burn Brandon Ayuk.
B there you go.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
This is like smoking need at this point, I mean
it is hours and hours on a low, low, low heat.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
I mean, just just decide. Just make a decision, really
make a decision. That's what you have to do. I
feel like I feel like I need to be the
dad going okay, we've had enough silliness. Time to go
to bed, right, Like, I'm like, dad's gonna come out. Okay.
I told you to be quiet. I told you to
be quiet. I warned you a couple of times. Your
mother and I are trying to sleep. She got to
get up early in the morning. You know, time to go.
(07:22):
I don't want to come back in here. Okay, everything's fine.
But then at some point you walk in, you turn
the light and go, okay, all right, everybody's got to
go to bed now we good, Okay, great, Then you
turn the light if you walk out, and that's it.
Like I feel like I need to be the dad
at that moment now saying okay, okay, I turn the
light on. Stop giggling. You stop giggling. Forty nine ers,
stop giggling, steelers, do something and get it done. Okay,
(07:42):
this story, this is this is way too long, it's
way too involved, it's way too much.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Just finish it, finish it are the forty nine ers
coming up ten thousand dollars at a time or something
like that.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
It's like an it's like an eBay auction where you
go low and then like you've been like ten dollars
on something in the person wants twenty and they come
back with nineteen, and then you got to come back
with eleven, and they come back with eighteen, and you
come back with twelve and they come back with seven.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Now exactly count counter offers repeatedly. I'd love to see
the string of texts like we have texted each other
nine hundred and eighty seven times.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
I mean, this is it needs to happen, all right,
and now look let me just let me just say this, okay,
let me if this can push it one way or
another for the forty nine ers. If you trade Brandon Ayuk,
all right, now, you're not getting back a receiver, most
likely because you were going to get back somebody from
either the Patriots or the Browns. Maybe was Amari Cooper,
(08:38):
maybe not, but the Steelers need a receiver. They're not
going to give you somebody back, all right, So that's
not they need somebody opposite George Pickens. So that's not
happening if you trade Brandon Ayuk. Understand, if you are
the forty nine ers, and this is a big deal,
you are all in this season to win the super
Bowl because after this, guess what, You're not going to
(08:59):
be favorites anymore. You're just gonna be one of a
bunch of hopefuls. You know why, because Brock Purdy's gonna
get sixty million dollars a year. You think he's not.
Brock Purdy is going to get sixty million dollars a year.
He has another year just like last year, forty nine
ers in the playoffs. He's a sixty million dollars a
year guy. Right, And suddenly Christian McCaffrey's twenty nine years
(09:20):
old with an injury history. This is your year if you,
If you, this is your year, your only year where
you can say we're gonna wind up being fake becaus
we've got all kinds of money to spend everything else.
How hard is it going to be to build a
super Bowl team when you have to pay your quarterback
sixty million dollars? Because that's what it's gonna be. The
brock Olypse is real. It's happening all of a sudden,
(09:41):
you're gonna see guys getting cut the Niners all of
a sudden. We had to move on from this guy.
We've on to move on here. We had to move
on here, and the Niners will be just another team
that Hey, maybe we have a chance this year because
we have a pretty good team, right, but the overwhelming
Super Bowl favorites. You've been lucky the last couple of years.
You had Brock Purty on his rookie deal, Right, it's
been great. You've been able to go spend money on
all kinds of other players. Guess what, he's getting sixty
(10:03):
million dollars a year. So you know you're all in
on this season, on this season. So know that before
you trade Brandon Ayuk, because if you trade Ayuk and
suddenly because you're still all in that you're still all
in here, it becomes much tougher for this to be
your super Bowl or bus type season. So if you trade,
understand that this is this is your year to be
(10:24):
all in because of what's coming. What's a better chance
you have winning the Super Bowl with Brandon Ayucker without him?
Of course, it's with him. So if you can find
a way for this year to keep whatever it is, Hey,
find a way, man, because if this happens, this is
your last best chance to win the Super Bowl before
its things change immensely in the next couple of years
for your team.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Well, they're in that same cycle that they had a
few years back where everything matured at once, a bunch
of deals need to be done, and in this case
it's led by the quarterback. So yeah, there's moneies. You
can always move around and you create that giant chasm
between your top four or five and everybody else. Folks,
(11:02):
go look at the rosters of your favorite NFL team
and their salaries. Many are built in the same fashion.
Now it's just a matter of how much you can
of that money you can kick down the road. Here's
your giant signing bonus, and then we're gonna stretch it
out and give it as long a tail as we
possibly can. So creative accounting is what needs to be done.
(11:23):
Forty nine are still tied with the Chiefs for the
best Super Bowl odds at six to one. I'm presuming
that's I don't think it's going to have a huge
impact if I were to leave. Still looking at where
the NFC is as a whole, not that there aren't contenders,
but certainly losing a big piece like that, and assuming
(11:43):
as much as you love Jimmy Pearsall and those guys
that have been draft I know it's named not Jimmy Pearsall.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Hej clearly the forty nine ers hoping Fear doesn't strike out.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
When they've bet him into the Okay, there you go.
There is our reference for everybody the age of sixty
or white Sox fans who watched him broadcast wondering what
the hell he was saying when they were kids.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Look, it's I mean, just understand that things get so
much more difficult. Right. They've enjoyed a huge bargain. He's
been a biggest bargain. And there's not going to be
any real doubt that he should get sixty million dollars
a year. If he was just a game there's nobody
else how manager. If he was yeah, if he was
a game manager throwing twenty touchdowns a year and the
team was winning. But this is a guy's throwing thirty
(12:30):
touchdowns a year now, man, I mean, he this is
your quarterback and there's no reason to think he's going
to have a down year. This year. Now, certainly would
a down year this year make it easy, But I
doubt if he has a down year, guess what, you're
not winning the super Bowl this year and he's still
getting a contract extension. So understand that's what I mean.
This is your last year to be big time Super
Bowl favorites before you come off the board and you're
(12:52):
just one of another group of teams that every year
hope this can come together for you. Now, that's usually great.
It's a great place to live when you're when you're
a yearly favorite day. Hey, that's an awesome thing. Hey
we can maybe this is our year, but this is
you're at the top two or three. You're in the
rarefied air this year, as you said, them and the
Chiefs the odds of them getting back to the super
Bowl again. This is it. So you're not going to
(13:14):
get anything back for Ayuk that's going to help you
this year, and after this year things change immensely. So
just know that before you trade Branda Ayuk. If this
helps the forty nine ers, understand, well, we got to
keep them now because obviously we're going to be better this year.
Let's find a way to rub a couple of Nickels
together so we can wind up keeping them keep them
happy for this season. Yeah quickly.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
You know, I want to give you credit for not
jumping in with the wayward masses and trying to call
him just a system guy because he works with Shanahan
in dismissing anything that perty's been able to do the
last couple of years. Uh, so good on you. The
other is who's going to be out there with him,
Kirk Cousins, maybe dak It is not going to be
(13:55):
a robust and deck Canna end up having many suitors
and at job.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
But he's gonna get sixty million a year, that's what
that's just stallion. Right, So someone's got the guys you
want are gonna You're not. No one's coming in for
a twenty million dollar bargain basement. Right, it's not happening, right,
You got whoever you get is going to get sixty
million dollars. That's how to watch. Oh, I'm telling you, man,
the Broncolypse is here. It's happening. Uh The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Carmon live from the
(14:20):
ti iraq dot com studios. So just get it. That's
where the steaks are steaks for the forty nine ers
this season. Time to find out what's trending in the
wide world of sports, and well, maybe we put a
big hex on the White Sox. It doesn't look like
they're gonna win this series against the Yankees. As Aaron
Judge just does what Aaron Judge does best. Kevin Wyert's
got that and more with what's trending right now in
(14:41):
the wide world of sport.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
Yeah, Aaron Judge two for four, home run, a double,
three runs batted in, two runs scored. He's also walk
so he's been on base three times tonight. As the Yankees,
they were trailing to one for much of this game,
but right now they're on top nine to two. They're
now in the top of the eighth inning over in Chicago.
And most importantly, the Baltimore Orioles won earlier today for
(15:05):
to one, beating the Washington Nationals, so if this result holds,
it'll still be a half a game lead for New
York in that American League East. The Orioles were certainly
hoping that the White Sox could hold on for that
victory against the Yankees. They would have leap frog back
in by half a game, but it's all looking like
it'll still be The Yankees.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Lead out East.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
As for the National League West and Todgres really starting
to feel the pressure. They're in a wild one right
now with the Milwaukee Brewers. They jumped out to a
three to nothing first inning lead. The Brewers would score
four unanswered, but Miguel Rojas with an RBI knock to
drop in to drive in Mookie Betts to tie it
back up at four runs a piece there are in
the seventh inning over at American Family Field. And as
(15:47):
for the rest of the NL West, the reason why
the Dodgers feel in the pressure, it's because the Diamondbacks
and Padres won't lose since the All Star Break. Arizona
now twenty and five, including an eleven and four victory
against the Rockies, the Padres nineteen and four. They finish
off a sweep of the Pirates eight to two on Wednesdays,
so it's a three game lead for Los Angeles. If
(16:08):
they can win against the Brewers, the Dodgers would be
up three and a half. But man, the Padres and
Diamondbacks both red, howt coming out of the All Star
breaking heading into the Dog Days of August. Elsewhere in
Major League Baseball, Rangers over the Red Sox ninety seven,
Guardians beat the Cubs six to one, Philly's over the
Marlins nine to five, Tigers beat the Mariners three two
(16:29):
in extra innings, Reds over the Cardinals nine to two,
and the Astros beat the Race two to one in
extra innings. And the Mets do beat the Athletics nine
to one. NFL JJ McCarthy gonna miss the season as
he needed a full repair that torn meniscus he suffered
in his right knee, and Kevin O'Connell saying Jordan Adison
will be okay after he was carted off the field.
(16:51):
He did hurt his ankle, but all appears to be fine.
And Matthew Judon going from New England to the Atlanta
Falcons as a Patriots dealing.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
In four a third round pick.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
At you guys, Thank you Roch Kate, I appreciate it.
My friend The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Carmon live from the Tirack dot Com studios coming
up next. You know, I always feel some sort of
remorse that didn't become a professional athlete because there is
a star quarterback that has an endorsement deal that I
would be absolutely perfect for. What is it? We'll tell
(17:21):
you next right here, Jason to Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (17:24):

Up on Game with me lebar Arrington, TJ. Houchmansauder, and
(18:04):
Plexico Burrs on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast or wherever
you get your podcast from.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live from the tiraq dot com Studios.
A big day in the NFL today. Maybe at some point, Brandon,
I you will get traded or the Niners will keep him.
One thing for sure, The Vikings will be going forward
without JJ McCarthy out for the season after undergoing knee
(18:35):
surgery today, joining us now in the hotline to break
it all down. There is nobody better than longtime NFL insider.
You can follow him on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two.
He is a Pro Football Hall of Very Good voter.
There were many very good players who went in the
Hall of Fame a few days ago, j Cole, what's
(18:56):
happening about? How are you?
Speaker 6 (18:58):
They're all famous? They were all famous players, not very
good famous. That was what it was. Same, Oh is that?
Speaker 1 (19:07):
Well? Okay, so you just have to be famous now
you don't need to be good, you just be famous
to get it.
Speaker 6 (19:11):
Well that that I didn't have a funny discussion with
people like this, one guy from Buffalo, a former player,
you know, being aggravated about it's you know, the best
players should go in the Hall of Fame?
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Was it Steer?
Speaker 6 (19:30):
I can't. It was a Steve Pasker burner account. Don
don bebie uh like getting in his argument it should
for me the best player. It's for the famous players,
for the ones who make an impact. And change the
fame from the game. And he said, no, it's not
(19:51):
about fame. I go, it's called the Hall of Fame.
The name fame. Fame is the overriding factor. When it's
a Hall of fame. I feel like I'm doing a
Bob Newhart episode or something like that.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
Sure, no, no, no, that's all good. I understand. So you
don't have to be good, you just have to be famous.
You can make the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 6 (20:20):
That's part of it. Yeah, it's.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
Zach Wilson's mom.
Speaker 6 (20:26):
I'm glad that that. That's a follow up question.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Zach Wilson's mom can make the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 6 (20:36):
Not in football, but yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
Why not my personality and she's famous?
Speaker 6 (20:43):
Is this hall? Can I say?
Speaker 1 (20:46):
Careful?
Speaker 6 (20:47):
Yeah, I don't know that I can say this.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
Yeah, let it go.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
I don't know what you were going to say either.
I have no idea.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
You pause that long, say no, no, you can't.
Speaker 6 (20:56):
Right, Yeah, no, Yeah, there's a hall there for her.
It's not one we can talk about. Let's just pay
it that way, certainly not the one her friends are in.
That's a That's why I'm here anyways, Moving along, you
should be really happy now, because now Sam Donald is
going to be starting for the Vikings this year and
(21:19):
gets a year maybe two years to to you know,
hone his skills. When Roger steps aside, you guys, can
the Jets can sign Donald?
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Yeah? Yeah, you know, listen, it's sometimes you just need
a little bit of time to get the Jets off
of you. It took Gino Smith a decade. It's going
to take Sam Donald four or five years if that works.
Speaker 6 (21:39):
It took a decade to get the stench off of.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
Yeah. You know, listen, you you were calm and reasonable
most of the time. Well, what what do you expect
out of Sam Donald? Now? What do you expect to see?
What do you expect from this year?
Speaker 6 (21:54):
I'm kind of the same thing I would expect out
of Jimmy Garoppolo or or any other of these kind
of big membo quarterbacks, right, you know, they're they're kind
of bringing dead heavers, And that's what he is. He
just you know, he gets out there and he can
(22:14):
fling it around. He can make some big plays because
he's got a big arm. He can do some you
know things that look really fun. But he's going to
make a bunch of mistakes and critical situations and when
the pressure is at the highest against the best defenses,
(22:35):
there are going to be times where he has that
deer in the headlights looking. You know it well from
those justays, just like Jimmy Garoppolo had that deer in
the headlights look when it just got a little too fast.
I'm a little too complicated, because yeah, these guys, their
brains just don't really work quite fast enough for when
(22:56):
it gets really, really, really tough. And that's what separates
the truly great ones from guys who are just really
super talented.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
It's where you bridge good and famous. There you go, Smith,
We just found our answer, all right, if you were
flipping a coin, Is that all it is right now
with the AYUK situation or do you have a lean
on this?
Speaker 6 (23:17):
I was I was curious about the fact that he
was on the field today for the for the first time.
I think that's the first time that he was on
the field during a practice.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
It's a hold in. It's a hold in now. It's
like the love ends in the sixties. It's a hold
in now. It's a hold in for.
Speaker 6 (23:32):
Well, I know, yeah, the love ends with the for you,
Like he wants to be there, they've got to come
to Grimson like they guy pay him the forty hours
are quibbling about the you know, the effects on the
bottom end of their roster when you're paying stars, because
they got to make this move to keep him because
(23:55):
they're trying to win a Super Bowl. Pearce All is
not ready. They know that a year from now they
want to move on from Debo. They just got to
bite the bullet and do this right. And then they're
going to have to pay party at some point when
Trent Williams walks. And so when Divo's gone and Trent
Williams has gone, and Kill's going to be gone sooner
(24:16):
than later because his body is racked up. At this
point in time, you should want to keep the young
guy who's been healthy, he's been playing every game for you,
who is a really terrific deep threat, like he's a
super productive guy. But Pittsburgh is willing to step up
(24:38):
and give him the money he wants. Okay, well, does
that not tell you something? Pay the guy. So you know,
I think the forty nine ers, their history has been
if you go way back and deal with all the contracts,
is that they just overthink the contracts because you know,
the guys who are in charge of rating the contract
(25:00):
have a little more sway with the owner and a
little more power with the owner. And sometimes when you're
at this stage, you just have to push your chips
in a little bit, you know, you have to push
it in and just say we'll figure it out on
the back side. I remember Kevin Demoff is a really
good contract guy, saying, why am I worried about a
(25:21):
million or two million on a top end players contract.
I can find that with my backup linebackers. And you
take a guy for three million instead of four million
or whatever it happens to be, you can fill in
those spots with guys who are a little bit cheaper.
You can't find guys who are you know, who are
difference makers. And you know, and one other problem with
(25:43):
this and everyone want to put this all on the
contract guys with the forty nine ers is Shanahan has
been griping ever since the end of last season about
my dad, you know, one titles with cheap wide receivers.
That was why Rod Smith and Ed McCaffrey, right, you know,
the guys he found. It's like, yeah, he did, and
(26:05):
he was really lucky, Like you can't recreate that luck.
Sometimes you have to pay for guys.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
See. But I look at it like this is like,
as you mentioned, Hey, after this year, Party's going to
get sixty million. McCaffrey's going to be twenty.
Speaker 6 (26:21):
Nine sixty million.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
You really think he's not going to get sixty million
dollars a year. I really think he's not.
Speaker 6 (26:29):
Right now because he's got because they can squad on
his rights for a couple of years that's much cheaper.
So it's it's not going to be that high a
contract now because he's not he's not really a free
agent to this offseason. He's he can still be tendered
and restricted and then they can put him you know,
(26:51):
then they can then they can put the tag on him.
Now he can he can redo his contract at the
end of this year. But it's a different it's a
different leverage situation. It's not sixteen million dollars a year,
dak Tuscott. If he goes free, we'll get sixty million
dollars a year because he will be free and clear.
Party's not going to be in that situation.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
I don't know, But do you think Party's going to
be Okay, okay, I'll take another couple of years of
less and and and we're gonna we're gonna call it
bad five here. I don't know about that.
Speaker 6 (27:20):
I think I think party realizes, and I think more importantly,
Perty's family realizes he's got a really good situation. Stay
in a good situation with a really great coach, with
a team that knows how to use you and how
to how to take advantage of your skill set, and
(27:43):
you know, don't do these holding kind of things. This
is this is silly.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
You know.
Speaker 6 (27:47):
If it's you know, you're gonna be fine at forty
five to fifty million dollars a year on a long
term contract. You don't have to kill it for sixty
unless you want to wait it out. If you want
to wait it out year and there's you know, you know,
restricted tag and then play another year or two years
on a franchise tag. Then you know, that's a that's
(28:10):
a different set of rules, and you can play it
out and you can you can top back your dollars.
You can't really do it this year because of the
tag situation. Are the way it works, you know.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
Me, I always love when we get to the franchise
tag and everybody gets all mad, and I say, hey,
you know what, take it out of the next CBA.
Let's see what you give up to get.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
That part of it.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
Oh.
Speaker 6 (28:31):
I will say that the owners, the owners, when they
first proposed this, it was specifically to protect quarterbacks, and
it has morphed into something where oh, let's squad on guys'
rights for a year or two while we find a
way to replace them. And that's wrong, and they should
find a way to restrict it from that. That would,
(28:54):
of course require that the people who run the NFLPA
understand football and squatting on rights and roster construction. Unfortunately,
they hired a guy who was a bean counter from
you know, some you know, some corporation who said, yeah,
I think he might have played football in high school.
(29:16):
He knows nothing about the business season, so getting into
that kind of detail, he'll never figure it out, and
the players don't know how to figure it out either.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two, that is,
at Jason Cole sixty two putting.
Speaker 6 (29:31):
Donald Williams Donald to the jet.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
Stop stop they stop, stop stopping coming. Here's what's going
to happen.
Speaker 6 (29:40):
He coming back like Boldemore. That's not arnold yet, it's
coming back. Yeah again.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Rorre Wow, you got a Missus mirror reference in nicely done.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
Y Take it easy, buddy, we'll talk to you.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Well played, Mrroring.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
Yeah, I know that's pretty nice. Yeah, you got a good.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Old school literature and film reference. Sure, Hope lang Right
goes to Missus Muir nicely done, Hope lang Right.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
Sure. Uh, let me just jump to you with what
Jed York said a couple months ago when it comes
to Brock Purdy, uh getting his next contract. Well, it's
what the market is. Brock is gonna ask for something
that no one's ever asked for before. I don't know
how many players are making over forty million dollars annually
as a quarterback right now. Uh, that's what the market is.
And you have to accept the reality of the world. Yeah,
(30:39):
they're gonna want to keep him happy and perty's gonna
get sixty million dollars. I get that you can do
all this, and but you don't want to make it.
And I understand Jason Cole's point. Look, you can can
you can really, you can really stick it to him
if you wanted to if you don't have all, but
you don't want to do that with your quarterback. You
want to make sure he's signing you love him, he's staying.
This is the going rate for quarterbacks. This is what
(30:59):
he's gonna want to get. This is what he's gonna
wind up getting because you want to keep him happy.
You got to keep your quarterback happy because he will
buy you contention. This is just gonna be the last
year where the Niners will be overwhelming super Bowl favorites
because when you take the money you're paying brock Perty
right now, which is about eight bucks an hour, even
if you add forty million dollars to it, Suddenly, hey,
where are you getting the rest of that money from
all other guys in the team And you're cutting three
(31:21):
or four star players to tap to get under that.
I mean, that's why this is the year for the Niners.
This is the last year they'll be overwhelming super Bowl
favorites like they are because of that contract situation.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Yeah, I mean, as Jay Goo went all the way through, right,
I mean, you're talking about McCaffrey's age. You look at
Debo and where he's at physically. Trent Williams just turned
thirty six a couple of weeks ago. Happy birthday. Trent
Williams still dominant. But again, where where's the edge of
the cliff when it comes to an offensive line with
that many miles on the tires? I mean, just keep
going on down the line. So uh yeah. But the
(31:53):
it just kind of chuckle when it gets into the
franchise tag thing because everybody always gets mad about it.
It's like, you're getting the average at the top five players.
It's pretty good money, and you guys agreed to this
in the CBA. So again, you want it out of
the CBA. I love to see the negotiation there. We
want that gone. Okay, now what will you give us
(32:15):
eighteen nineteen twenty games? Where do you want to go?
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swolling down the Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmon. We want to go right
now to Kevin Wyatt, who has everything that's trending in
the wide world of sports. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
Major League Baseball, we're in the dog days of August
and the Dodgers really feeling the heat in the National
League West End. They had a three to nothing lead
against the Brewers after the first inning in Milwaukee, but
the Brewers end up winning this one. They came back
to take a four to three lead. The Dodgers tied
it at four before Milwaukee gets another run in the
eight to win it five to four and take the
(32:52):
third game of this four game series after the Dodgers
took the first two so they could go for the
series tie tomorrow morning. And the Rodgers, though feeling the heat,
they have a two and a half game lead on
the Diamondbacks and Padres. That's after Arizona one today eleven
to four against the Colorado Rockies. They've won twenty of
their last twenty five games coming out of the All
(33:14):
Star Break, and the Padres also on a similar run
nineteen and four since the All Star Break after they
finish off a sweep on the Pirates eight to two,
so LA's lead in the NL West now sits at
two and a half games. In the American League East,
the Orioles do bounce back from a loss to the
Nationals yesterday to beat him today for one. But the
Yankees after it looked like they might lose to the
(33:35):
White Socks. They were down to to one for much
of that game, but they explode as Aaron Judge becomes
the fastest person to hit three hundred career home runs
in history, and he helps propel the Yankees to a
big ten to two victory, although again was a one
run White Sox lead up until the final innings there
on the South side, So this lead for the Yankees
(33:56):
in the Al East still half a game up on
a Baltimore. Elsewhere in Major League Baseball, we do have
a couple of games still going on right now. Blue
Jays lead the Angels seven to one, Braves on top
of the Mets nine to two, so those games look
like they are all but formalities there. Everything else has
gone final. Royal still hold the final wildcard spot. They're
able to beat the Twins on Wednesday four to one.
(34:20):
The Rangers and Red Sox go to extras, Boston wins
it nine to seven, the Cubs and Guardians Cleveland wins
at six to one. Philly's over the Marlins nine to five.
Tigers and Mariners go to extras where Detroit wins it
three to two. Cubs beat the Cardinals ninety two, Astros
over the Rays two to one, and the Mets beat
the Athletics nine to one. Matthew judea On going from
(34:40):
New England to the Atlanta Falcons as New England sending
him in exchange for a third round draft selection. JJ
McCarthy going to be out for the season after he
had to have surgery to repair his torn at meniscus,
so he has done for the year. However, not all
bad news. Jordan Addison is okay. According to Kevin O'Connell.
He did hurt his ankle in practice and had it
to be hard and off of the field.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Back to you guys, thanks a bunch, k appreciate it, buddy.

Speaker 6 (35:49):
Mike Harmon, Well Dressed Hobo.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
Live from the tire rack dot Com Studios. Jay, let's
get that big Aaron Judge home run ready number three
hundred for Aaron Judge tonight, part of the Yankees win
over the White Sox. The game, the White Sox were
winning two to one when we came on the air
and yeah, for a minute, for a hot minute, it
was wow. The Yankees gonna get kicked out of baseball
(36:13):
losing a series to the White Sox. Well, maybe that's
all they needed. They score the next nine, punctuated by
the three hundredth home run of Aaron Judge's career. He
is now the fastest player in baseball history to get
to three hundred home runs. And here's what it sounded like.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
The Captain's sitting on two hundred and ninety nine homers,
three zero, Judge shives it Pepe left.
Speaker 5 (36:41):
Field way back and gone goodbye.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
On a three oh pitch, Judge Laser's home run number
three hundred, the fastest ever to hit that mark and
blows this one wide open in the eighth Yankees Radio
network on the call is after the game, I was
mad about the intentional walk. They walked Sodo before him,
just the second time in Judge's career the batter before
(37:08):
him was intentionally walked. And I heard jud said, Oh, yeah,
but you're gonna walk the guy to get to me.
You see the year I'm having, I'm having a triple
crown year. Blank you home run number three hundred, he said.
Quote Usually I take a three to zero pitch, but
in that situation, you know you gotta come through. So
a little bit something extra for Aaron Judge on that
home run.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
Mike Well, he was motivated by the worst team in
baseball who did another dumb thing. Grady Saizmore, Welcome to
your White Sox. Yeah moment, by the way, just all
the you know, talk of hey they were up to
one and blah blah blah blah blah. There were eight
hours remaining. Have you not watched the White Sox or
paid attention all year? I feel like I'm being stabbed
(37:50):
every time you guys do this like this is something new. No,
this is every damn night. I have experienced this, all right.
So three hundred home run what one hundred and thirty
two games faster than Ralph Kiner, and now he began
to chase for four hundred.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
See how I flipped it back to positivity for Aaron
Judge intentional walk the guy in front of him. What
the hell would you not just throw the ball thirty
five feet in the air over your catcher's head. I
put him on as well. I just drill him, you
know my old stamps. I don't need to throw the
four pitches. I don't need to point down to first base.
Just plug the guy.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
Well, that's that's new. That's new. I put it in.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
At least it's.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
Something you know, hey, at least it was at least
it was something new. At least it was something new
from the.
Speaker 3 (38:36):
White I Well, on the positive side, I mean it
was his second shortest home round of the year. Yeah, yeah,
he didn't get all of it on that.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
Three oh, but it doesn't matter. You just have to
hit it about three hundred and forty feet and that's
what he did. He hit it at the top of
his bat. I think Toma hawked it in Now.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
Look, here's what's what happens when you're six seven with
a lot of power. I mean wed her sixty one
feet later in rounding the base, We're.
Speaker 1 (39:02):
Gonna walk a guy to get to Aaron Judge.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
That's new third career home run on a three to
zero pitch.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
White sox is gonna white sock. He is the fastest
in Major League Baseball history to get to three hundred. However,
Aaron Judge got a late start to his career. Didn't
come up for the Yankees until he was twenty four
years old.
Speaker 5 (39:20):
Right.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
He came up in twenty sixteen for a little bit
and then really burst on the scene in twenty seventeen,
had the big fifty home run year, same year Cody
Bellinger was big. Was all these two guys are gonna
carry baseball the next eight years. At least one of
them didn't took their part. He's got three hundred now,
but he's thirty two. Is he gonna hit five hundred? Yeah?
(39:40):
Is he gonna hit six hundred? I think that's too much.
I don't if you're gonna say, is Aaron Judge, you
know one of the best home run here is we've
ever seen a guy that's gonna wind up with now
three most likely three fifty home run seasons on his
resume this fast. It's a lot to ask to age,
to not get injured, to continue to hit forty home
(40:02):
runs a year. Yeah, but it's still lost.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
That's sixth season at fifty a year. Yeah, that's I mean,
that's insane.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
You've seen, You've seen, you've seen him take. You know,
it's taken a three, four, five sixty seven these eight
years to get to three hundred. He's not gonna be
hitting home you know, all these home runs when he's
forty one years old. He's a bigger guy. It's a
it's a lot to ask. If you tell where does
he tap out? Somewhere five seventy five ish? Is I mean?
That's I mean, I even think that might be a lot.
(40:28):
He gets to five hundred without without too much of
a difficulty, but boy, to get to six hundred, that's
a lot. It's a lot to ask. It's a lot
to ask. Continue to stay healthy and to stay as
productive as you are, and and to not miss time.
They're not being a strike, they're not being something to
cost you eighty games in a year. It's a lot
to ask when you're talking about six or seven seasons
ahead of time. So six, I think six hundred is
(40:50):
going to be a little bit too much to ask
for Aaron Judge.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
Yeah, I mean Eric, but Al Chrodriguez did it ahead
of his thirtieth birthday. Right. If you go through uh
and then you start trying to do the comps and
this size of judge you wonder about body is starting
to break down because he's missed time. He's a Yankee,
he's a big Yankee hitter. He's miss time due to injury.
I'm not looking at you, Mike Giancarlos Stanton over there,
(41:14):
you know, while you're in the lineup now. But to
try to say you're gonna do that for another seven years,
I'd love to see it. It's good for the game,
especially with the guy that was supposed to be running
alongside and Mike Trout consistently sidelined. This is good for baseball.
But yeah, that's that's a tough ass. Let's just enjoy
what we got.
Speaker 1 (41:33):
Yeah, it's a you know, the product. The unknown is
really a big thing. Like it's oar to Okay, Yeah,
if he can do this, but look there's unknown that happens.
There's injuries there again, there's work stoppages, there's there's stuffing
to take eight years to get here, Okay, another eight
when you're forty one? Is that gonna? I mean it's hard.
Big power hitters don't age well, they don't. They don't
keep hitting home runs when they're forty forty one. Barry
(41:55):
Bonds is the only guy. And look what he went
through to get there. So I get five hundred absolutely
Hall of Famer, one hundred.
Speaker 3 (42:02):
One more to Ty Rogers hornsby little too much.
Speaker 1 (42:05):
To ask for for three for six hundred for him
exit out about a Fresco exit swollen Dome. The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon Coming up next,
we get back into the biggest story out of football today,
