and they could knock off the New York Yankees. Oh,
by the way, the New York Yankees with the second
best record in the National in all of baseball. The
New York Yankees could lose a series to the Chicago
White Sox.

I'm sorry, buddy, but this is where I is a

If nothing else, you would have at least had a
couple of pushes in there with the twenty nine wins
coming into tonight, a couple of.

losing Street. At some point they found their w they

They really may not make it. They may get thrown
out of baseball if they lose this game two nights
ago is probably a warning. I'm sure Rob Manfred called
the Yankees and said, look, if you lost the game
to the White Sox, here, let's pick it up because
this could be really embarrassing for baseball. And they win
the next game. Okay, that's great, so too. It's three
home runs. But now this is a we really could

just dump you out of the league, like you really
could be absolutely done if you wind up losing this series.
And as they say this, I almost curse the Chicago
White Sox. A diving catch in right field that gets
the second out of the inning, I believe. I believe
he didn't tag up from first. I believe the Yankees

just tagged up from second to on a sacrifice fly
on a deep fly ball to right, and this game
is now tied at two a piece, And that is
I believe that's what happened. It was a great diving
catching right field. But I believe, yeah, the tag up
was from second, and now the game is tied it
to a piece. Not often you get a two base
sacrifice fly. I believe that's how it gets scored. Two

basis of the two base sacrifice fly. The White Sox
don't get the ball back in in time. And it's
not like there was a lot of not a lot
of grab ass, like they tried to get it back
in and it was just hey, we're getting all the
way around. So a two run sacrifice fly has tied
this game with the White Sox and the Yankees at
to a piece here in the seventh innings. So I'm sorry,

White Sox. Everything was going great until I just, you know,
did that for you. That's really my bad. It's my bad. Look, Harmon,
we can't even get him anymore. Harmon just decided to
hang up in in the middle of while we were talking.
I'm done. I'm done. No, nobody tight shut, nobody shot it.
He just decided I'm done doing the show. In the
middle of talking, that play happened. He stopped talking, and
now we can't get him back.

Well, he is attached to the team, so if they're
also done, I think Mike's attached to that.

Yeah, okay, so all right, maybe we'll get Harmon back.
I don't know, maybe we'll run. He did. He did
have a good run. But it really was kind of
coincidental that in the middle of that play where a
two bay sacrifice fly, only the White Sox, uh, he'd
wound up dumping off the air and now we don't
know if we're gonna get back.

Why I could just bring a lot of dead people,

Uh yeah, but it's gotta be kind of organic. Harmon
kind of brings up dead people granically in the conversation,
Like you can't just randomly bring up a dead person.

big NFL news, they look all over the place, and

JJ McCarthy will miss the entire season for the Vikings

after knee surgery. We knew last night that he got
hurt pretty bad. We didn't know until they went in
and did the surgery whether McCarthy's knee was going to
be able to be repaired. He can come back in
a few weeks or it was going to be this season.
He had sarchery today and it was then denoted after
it was serious enough. He is missing this season, besidelined
until twenty twenty five tornamentiscus in his right knee. So

right now Sam Darnold is the quarterback and potentially they
could be going after somebody else, which'll get to in
a few minutes. But look, this is the case right here. Look,
this is where I can do. I can do. I
could be one of those what what are they not? Not?
What do they call it? Like? I could do grief
counseling here a little bit, right.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Well, this is what you want to do, which you're
gonna jump in at for it.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Well, no, listen because because look, there's nobody better to
talk about this injury than me, Because I get it
when when it happens when you have all kinds of
great hopes for your team and you draft a quarterback
and you think he's gonna be good, and you think
this is our guy, and then you know, you get
two quarters down in the preseason, he looks pretty good
and you're excited, and then he gets hurt and now
he's done for the season. Right. I understand that, I get.

I get when you spend an entire offseason looking forward
to the season and then after four snaps you lose
it all. I understand more than I get it. Not
in the regular season. Not in the regular season. Didn't
get that direct, didn't carry the American flag out before
the game, didn't get to do that.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
No, no, no, So I mean, any hope of him
goes away before the game's really counts, So they were
actually were spared.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
No no, it's it's no no, no. You didn't have
more you know what would you rather have? Three more
weeks of hope? And then get it taken out or
would you rather have less hope? No, I'd rather have
three more weeks of hope and then find out oh yeah, no, yeah, Rogers.

Has done for the season. I think I want it now.

He's absolutely done.

No, you just don't be done because that and then
it's all feel good. That means that many more people
bought the McCarthy's at full price.

Let me in terms of training cards and jerseys, what
if they told you, hey, Harmon, you know your left
shoulder is really bad. We're gonna take your entire arm off.
We're gonna take your drive, but you could have it
pretty good for the next three months. You would say, no,
you want it now?

Well, I mean in that case, if you're telling me
it's got to come off, then I've lost some other
bad so in.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
My fantasy league and I have to lose an arm
because of it. We're really serious in this.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
League's Hey, that's a movie right there.

You would want to keep well, you always complete, that's
a bit you tell me about how bad your arm is, Like, okay,
but you would want your arm for the next TROO
tell you that all the time.

But I only tell you that if we try to
throw a ball and then all of a sudden, I'm
bunched over and su you try to pull a.

Five dollar bill out of your wallet with your left hand.
You go, oh, oh my, oh, I can't you know,
let me lie, I can't hear. I know how bad
it hurts. By now better, but you would still want
it for another three months and then you're told, okay,
you can't have the arm anymore.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Well, since I can't really do much with my right arm,
I never learned to be amphibious.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
So there you go. So but this, this is the thing,
is that how do you deal with something like this?
Luckily I just went through it last year. I mean
I've gone through this a lot with my quarterbacks. S
happened to me a few times.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
If you're just gonna say cry and drink, we're way
to deal with this.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Yeah, but that's easy. That's easy. I want to be.
I want to just stand there and clap and say
school wow.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
I mean, you know, it's like saying cheers, and then
you take a giant drink. What do you think I
tell you you're supposed to have when you have some glug.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
This is how you do it. This is how you
get past it. Right, This is what I always feel
is the best way to get past something like this,
because it sucks, right, it sucks. But I was just there.
I just had a whole season with it. I completely
get it. The best thing to do, and this is
the best way to get past it. Not think your
season is over and you still have stuff going on.
You can still do stuff great. You absolutely live in denial.
(10:38):
Just live in denial that this is crushing your team.
Live in denial, you think, blank everyone, We're still gonna win,
no matter who we put out there. And you'll feel good,
and you might feel a little false. You might feel
a little bit eh, I don't know, but you will
feel good. You will feel better, you will feel on
you are on the offensive, and you will feel like, hey,
(11:01):
all right, things are still possible because it's still Summer's
green field, and we can still go out there and
find a way to do it. I don't know how,
because our quarterback stinks, the guys behind him stink, and
I don't know what's going on. Justin Jefferson may refuse
to play. He's not gonna catch passes from another backup
for another season. No, no, no, Jordan Addison gets hurt today, No, no,
all these bad things have no. You completely live in
(11:22):
denial and think it doesn't matter who gets hurt. We
are still going to win. You're you're the Night from
Monty Python in the Holy Grail speaking of losing arms
and legs and appendages whatever that. You think, Oh, I'm
still gonna win. This is the best way to do it.
Just completely live in denial and think everything is still possible.
That's how you get through this season. And then eventually,
when you realize the season is gone, you'll start thinking
(11:44):
about things like, Okay, maybe we'll pick first overall in
the draft, and maybe we'll get a quarterback. We can
spin JJ McCarthy off to Jim Harbaugh, who will want
him at that point, and he'll want to move on
from Justin Herbert. So we have all and there'll be
other things. But how do you get by the first
bill parts of the season. Just completely live in denial.
I think everything is fine.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
This is where you lean completely into Sam Darnold as
the savior. This is the right spot. O'Connell is the
right guy to take him to the Promised Land and
make him a hero after he goes over and begs
the other coach to take it easy in a joint workout.
Anybody want to jump on that one. Yeah, good job there.

That makes you guys look great. But you've got Sam Donald.
Remember we were talking about it even twenty four hours ago,
the fluff pieces that were going out there.

You hope for the best, right if Jefferson, Hawkinson and Addison,
assuming he comes through Okay with Jones, I got enough
offensive weaponry with some creativity, I'm gonna make some plays.
My defense should be good enough to keep me hovering
around five hundred. Cause really that's what we're looking at here.
Crowded and it crowded North. But it's like that might

be enough to get it to the backside of the playoffs.

Yes, look at you. You already are living in Deny
because you're a Bears fan and everything is great because
you have a guy that's going to take over the
league and you were in ten years of an era
of good feeling and that was easy to do for
the Vikings. Man, forget about this horrendous offseason that you've
had with a quarterback getting hurt, and you'll know what's
going on. No man, Oh, no, no, no, no, just
live in denial, Live in denial and just go for it.

Doesn't matter who's playing quarterback, Sam Darnold. No, they're going
to figure out on his on his fourth team and
his seventh year in the league. This is how he
figures it out. It happened with Gino Smith, it could
happen for us. Living in denial is a great place
to be, man, and you need to be there for
at least the next couple of months. That's who you
got to live. Dude.

If he does that in year seven, then that means
he has accelerated the deactivation of all things Jets. That
myre a career, right. It took Gino ten years.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Yeah, Gino took a deck. If he does it in seven,

He sped up the process, which means the next guy,
if he passes along some of those secrets, we might
looking at a four year run before you can go
and find greatness. And look, I just said positive things
from my friends back you know in Minneapolis, Minnesota as
they get ready for this year. And I'm a Bears fan.
What am I gonna say, hey, Montes, sweat's gonna hurt him,

and you're gonna be down to QB number three. No,
I'm a nice guy on a wend.

Yeah, listen that last night was tough. Today was even

to your team and you think, oh my goodness, this
is so awful. Live in denial. It's a great place
to be. It's great. Everything is comfortable. There's chairs, there's recliners,

moving in and going and saying, Okay, I'm gonna fly
in a plane and it's an hour before we take off.

But you know, because of this ticket I have, I

today after his knee surgery's gonna miss all of twenty
twenty four. The macro part of this, right, we got

to get about him and I told you how to
get through it. Just livin denial still think everything is
gonna be great.

The thing is and this is and this is a
and this is where you're going to get And I
can't blame anybody, right, I can't blame anyone for this.
But we were starting to see not quite to come back,
but a little bit of a return to Eh, let's
have some regulars play in the regular in the preseason.

Some quarterbacks are gonna play a little bit, Some big
running backs are gonna play. Why, some players are gonna
play in We were starting to see it creep back
to that a little bit because once the Rams won
the Super Bowl a couple of years ago and nobody
played in the preseason, all we don't need these guys. Okay, great,
and then we had two years of boy, there's no
news because nobody is playing. Right. No, we gotta start
(19:28):
televising these joint practices. They're better than the bleeping games
on Saturdays and Sundays. We were just starting to creep
back to that. And I'm telling you, after this news,
we're gonna go back to guys aren't playing. Young superstars
aren't gonna play. Maybe you'll get a cameo appearance here
and there for a series just to get them used
to it. But that trend of hey, maybe getting back
(19:49):
to seeing players play and seeing stars play, seeing quarterbacks play,
that's gonna end because you saw the Vikings say, oh, okay,
here's a guy that we were counting on being our
quarterback probably by week five, week six, middle of the season,
and we were gonna take you know, that was gonna
be it. See what kind of guy we have? What
was the real benefit of giving him all kinds of
(20:10):
extended action. In Week one of the preseason, they gave
him extended action and any tours ACL So I merely
that that's kind of what teams are gonna look at
and say, why are we playing our guys? Like why
would Michael Pennix Junior play another series, you know, or
maybe more than one series right now? Why why would
you do that to any of those guys. So I
think you're gonna start seeing an immediate pullback on players playing.
(20:31):
You're gonna see this weekend. Oh, hey, we thought we
were gonna see Bonnicks. Nah, Bonnix is not gonna play.
I know, but we don't need to see Bonix now.
Aaron Rodgers we thought, no, no, he's not gonna play.
You're gonna see teams pull back on that, and that's
gonna be the next phase is getting back to where hey,
stars aren't playing during the preseason because all you is
one reminder like this, and that's gonna change everybody's mind
back again.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Yeah, the curiosity, you know, in the knee jerk reaction,
how much the players push to play, Because I mean
that was some of the groundswell, was that you had
mahomes and and Burrow and others who said, hey, I
need to get some reps. Your guy rogers, how much
of it is pr versus reality? You can sort it
out there with jet guy, but a lot of it.

You know, we we were excited that preseason games there
was a reason to tune in at least for a
short spell, right, even at the end of Hard Knocks,
talking about, Hey, you know we're gonna come back out,
same aggression for next week. I'm like, I have more
Caleb Williams. Eh, maybe he's now stuck in a box.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
You don't see Caleb Williams. You don't see him till
week one. I didn't even want him in practice. I
just keep him home watching film. Hey, just play Madden,
work on your work on your reflex. I don't even
want to see you in practice till week one. I
don't want you playing with your dog.

I don't want you walking out to a swimming pool
where there might be a wet deck. Can't do it,
loose sight packaging for you back up on the wall.

We'll have coaches come to your house and just douse
you with water while you're sitting on your couch. All right,

Where we dominates. The conversation every day is that U
couldn't get traded? Is he not? He's a really good
wide receiver. Should he deserve a thirty million dollar contract?
Yes to the forty not want to pay him? No?
Have they worked out some deals? Yes? Have they worked
out any deals that Brandon Ayuk wants. Not yet. Supposedly

there's a deal on table with the Steelers, which is
his preferred destination. Yet for some reason that's not done.
You why is that not done? You're not entering into
a negotiation to get Brandon Ayuk unless you know you're
gonna pay him thirty million dollars a year and he's
okay with going there like I'm done. You know, I
don't care if he stays or he gets traded. At

And suddenly Christian McCaffrey's twenty nine years old with an
injury history. This is your year if you trade, If

you this is your year, your only year where you
can say we're gonna wind up being fake because we
got all kinds of money to spend everything else. How
hard is it going to be to build a super
Bowl team when you have to pay your quarterback sixty
million dollars? Because that's what it's gonna be. The broc

gonna see guys getting cut the Niners all of a sudden.

We had to move on from this guy, move on
to move on here. We had to move on here,
and the Niners will be just another team that Hey,
maybe we have a chance this year because we have

You've been lucky the last couple of years. You had

You've been able to go spend money on all kinds
of other players. Guess what he's getting sixty million dollars
a year. So you know you're all in on this season,

on this season, So know that before you trade Brandon
Ayuk because if you trade Ayuk and suddenly because you're
still all in, you're still all in here, it becomes
much tougher for this to be your Super Bowl or
bus type season. So if you trade, understand that this
is this is your year to be all in because
of what's coming. What's a better chance you have won

in the Super Bowl with Brandon Ayucker without him? Of
course it's with him. So if you can find a
way for this year to get whatever it is, hey,
fin find a way, man, because if this happens, this
is your last best chance to win the Super Bowl
before things change immensely in the next couple of years.

Well, they're in that same cycle that they had a
few years back where everything matured at once, a bunch
of deals need to be done, and in this case
it's led by the quarterback. So yeah, there's monies you
can always move around and you create that giant chasm
between your top four or five players and everybody else. Folks,

go look at the rosters of your favorite NFL team
and their salaries. Many are built in the same fashion.
Now it's just a matter of how much you can
of that money you can kick down the road, here's
your giant signing bonus, and then we're gonna stretch it
out and give it as long a tail as we
possibly can. So creative accounting is what needs to be done.

Forty nine are still tied with the Chiefs for the
best Super Bowl odds at six to one. I'm presuming
that's I don't think it's going to have a huge
impact if I where to leave, still looking at where
the NFC is as a whole, not that there aren't contenders,
but certainly losing a big piece like that, and assuming

as much as you love Jimmy Pearsall and those guys
that have been draft, I know it's named not Jimmy
Pearsall TJ.

twenty touchdowns a year and the team was winn Now.
But this is a guy's throwing thirty touchdowns a year now, man,

I mean, he this is your quarterback, and there's no
reason to think he's going to have a down year
this year. Now, certainly, would a down year this year
make it easy, But I doubt if he has a
down year, guess what, You're not winning the super Bowl
this year and he's still getting a contract extension. So
understand that's what I mean. This is your last year
to be big time Super Bowl favorites before you come
off the board and you're just one of another group

of teams that every year hope this can come together
for you. Now, that's usually great. It's a great place
to live right when you're when you're a yearly favorite
to hey, that's an awesome thing. Hey we can maybe
this is our year, but this is what you're at
the top two or three. You're in the rarefied air
this year as you said them and the Chiefs, the
odds of them getting back to the super Bowl again.
This is it. So you're not going to get anything

back for Ayuk that's going to help you this year,
and after this year things change immensely. So just know
that before you trade Brandon Ayuk, if this helps the
forty nine ers, understand, well, we got to keep them
now because obviously we're going to be better this year.
Let's find a way to rub a couple of nickels
together so we can wind up keeping them, keep them
happy for this season.

doesn't look like they're gonna win this series of against

does best. Kevin Wyert's got that and more with what's
trending right now in the wide world of sport.

Yeah, Aaron Judge two for four, home run, a double,
three runs batted in, two runs scored. He's also walk
so he's been on base three times tonight. As the
Yankees they were trailing two to one for much of
this game, but right now they're on top nine to two.
They're now in the top of the eighth inning over
in Chicago, and most importantly, the Baltimore Orioles won earlier

today for to one, beating the Washington Nationals, So if
this result holds, it'll still be a half a game
lead for New York in that American League East. The
Orioles were certainly hoping that the White Sox could hold
on for that victory against the Yankees, they would have
leap frog back in by half a game, but it's
all looking like it'll still be the Yankees lead out East.

As for the National League West, and Todgers really starting
to feel the pressure. They're in a wild one right
now with the Milwaukee Brewers. They jumped out to a
three to nothing first inning lead. Owers would score four unanswered,
but Miguel Rojas with an RBI knock to drop in
to drive in Mookie Betts to tie it back up
at four runs a piece. There are in the seventh
inning over at American Family Field. And as for the
(33:12):
rest of the NLS, the reason why the Dodgers feel
in the presserts because the Diamondbacks and Padres won't lose
since the All Star break Arizona now twenty and five,
including in eleven four victory against the Rockies.

They finish off a sweep of the Pirates eight to
two on Wednesdays, so it's a three game lead for
Los Angeles. If they can win against the Brewers, the

the All Star Breaking heading into the dog days of August.
Elsewhere in Major League Baseball, Rangers over the Red Sox

ninety seven, Guardians beat the Cubs six to one, Philly's
over the Marlins nine to five, Tigers beat the Mariners
three two in extra innings, Red's over the Cardinals nine
to two, and the Astros beat the Race two to
one ins for innings, and the Mets do beat the
Athletics nine to one. NFL JJ McCarthy gonna miss the
season as he needed a full repair that torn meniscus

he suffered in his right knee, and Kevin O'Connell saying
Jordan Addison will be okay after he was carted off
the field. He did hurt his ankle, but all appears
to be fine. And Matthew Jullion going from New England
to the Atlanta Falcons as a Patriots dealing him for
a third round pick.

home runs. But now this is a we really could

just dump you out of the league, like you really
could be absolutely done if you wind up losing this series.
And as they say this, I almost curse the Chicago
White Sox. A diving catch in right field that gets
the second out of the inning, I believe. I believe
he didn't tag up from first. I believe the Yankees

just tagged up from second to on a sacrifice fly
on a deep fly ball to right, and this game
is now tied at two a piece, And that is
I believe that's what happened. It was a great diving
catching right field. But I believe, yeah, the tag up
was from second, and now the game is tied it
to a piece. Not often you get a two base
sacrifice fly. I believe that's how it gets scored. Two
(04:28):
basis of the two base sacrifice fly. The White Sox
don't get the ball back in in time. And it's
not like there was a lot of not a lot
of grab ass, like they tried to get it back
in and it was just hey, we're getting all the
way around. So a two run sacrifice fly has tied
this game with the White Sox and the Yankees at
to a piece here in the seventh innings. So I'm sorry,

White Sox. Everything was going great until I just, you know,
did that for you. That's really my bad. It's my bad. Look, Harmon,
we can't even get him anymore. Harmon just decided to
hang up in in the middle of while we were talking.

He just decided I'm done doing the show. In the
middle of talking, that play happened. He stopped talking, and

JJ McCarthy will miss the entire season for the Vikings

after knee surgery. We knew last night that he got
hurt pretty bad. We didn't know until they went in
and did the surgery whether McCarthy's knee was going to
be able to be repaired. He can come back in
a few weeks or it was going to be this season.
He had sarchery today and it was then denoted after
it was serious enough. He is missing this season, besidelined
until twenty twenty five tornamentiscus in his right knee. So
(07:11):
right now Sam Darnold is the quarterback and potentially they
could be going after somebody else, which'll get to in
a few minutes. But look, this is the case right here. Look,
this is where I can do. I can do. I
could be one of those what what are they not? Not?
What do they call it? Like? I could do grief
counseling here a little bit, right.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Well, this is what you want to do, which you're
gonna jump in at for it.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Well, no, listen because because look, there's nobody better to
talk about this injury than me, Because I get it
when when it happens when you have all kinds of
great hopes for your team and you draft a quarterback
and you think he's gonna be good, and you think
this is our guy, and then you know, you get
two quarters down in the preseason, he looks pretty good
and you're excited, and then he gets hurt and now
he's done for the season. Right. I understand that, I get.

I get when you spend an entire offseason looking forward
to the season and then after four snaps you lose
it all. I understand more than I get it. Not
in the regular season. Not in the regular season. Didn't
get that direct, didn't carry the American flag out before
the game, didn't get to do that.

No, no, no, So I mean, any hope of him
goes away before the game's really counts, So they were
actually were spared.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
No no, it's it's no no, no. You didn't have
more you know what would you rather have? Three more
weeks of hope? And then get it taken out or
would you rather have less hope? No, I'd rather have
three more weeks of hope and then find out oh yeah, no, yeah, Rogers.

He's absolutely done.

it's all feel good. That means that many more people
bought the McCarthy's at full price.

if they told you, hey, Harmon, you know your left
shoulder is really bad. We're gonna take your entire arm off.
We're gonna take your drive, but you could have it
pretty good for the next three months. You would say, no,
you want it now?

Well, I mean in that case, if you're telling me
it's got to come off, then I've lost some other
bad so in.

My fantasy league and I have to lose an arm
because of it. We're really serious in this.

You would want to keep well, you always complete, that's
a bit you tell me about how bad your arm is, Like, okay,
but you would want your arm for the next TROO

bunched over and su you try to pull a.

it hurts. By now better, but you would still want
it for another three months and then you're told, okay,
you can't have the arm anymore.

Well, since I can't really do much with my right arm,
I never learned to be amphibious.

So there you go. So but this, this is the thing,
is that how do you deal with something like this?
Luckily I just went through it last year. I mean
I've gone through this a lot with my quarterbacks. S
happened to me a few times.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
If you're just gonna say cry and drink, we're way
to deal with this.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Yeah, but that's easy. That's easy. I want to be.
I want to just stand there and clap and say
school wow.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
I mean, you know, it's like saying cheers, and then
you take a giant drink. What do you think I
tell you you're supposed to have when you have some glug.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
This is how you do it. This is how you
get past it. Right, This is what I always feel
is the best way to get past something like this,
because it sucks, right, it sucks. But I was just there.
I just had a whole season with it. I completely
get it. The best thing to do, and this is
the best way to get past it. Not think your
season is over and you still have stuff going on.
You can still do stuff great. You absolutely live in denial.

Just live in denial that this is crushing your team.
Live in denial, you think, blank everyone, We're still gonna win,
no matter who we put out there. And you'll feel good,
and you might feel a little false. You might feel
a little bit eh, I don't know, but you will
feel good. You will feel better, you will feel on
you are on the offensive, and you will feel like, hey,

all right, things are still possible because it's still Summer's
green field, and we can still go out there and
find a way to do it. I don't know how,
because our quarterback stinks, the guys behind him stink, and
I don't know what's going on. Justin Jefferson may refuse
to play. He's not gonna catch passes from another backup
for another season. No, no, no, Jordan Addison gets hurt today, No, no,
all these bad things have no. You completely live in
(11:22):
denial and think it doesn't matter who gets hurt. We
are still going to win. You're you're the Night from
Monty Python in the Holy Grail speaking of losing arms
and legs and appendages whatever that. You think, Oh, I'm
still gonna win. This is the best way to do it.
Just completely live in denial and think everything is still possible.
That's how you get through this season. And then eventually,
when you realize the season is gone, you'll start thinking
(11:44):
about things like, Okay, maybe we'll pick first overall in
the draft, and maybe we'll get a quarterback. We can
spin JJ McCarthy off to Jim Harbaugh, who will want
him at that point, and he'll want to move on
from Justin Herbert. So we have all and there'll be
other things. But how do you get by the first
bill parts of the season. Just completely live in denial.
I think everything is fine.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
This is where you lean completely into Sam Darnold as
the savior. This is the right spot. O'Connell is the
right guy to take him to the Promised Land and
make him a hero after he goes over and begs
the other coach to take it easy in a joint workout.

Some quarterbacks are gonna play a little bit, Some big
running backs are gonna play. Why, some players are gonna
play in We were starting to see it creep back
to that a little bit because once the Rams won
the Super Bowl a couple of years ago and nobody
played in the preseason, all we don't need these guys. Okay, great,
and then we had two years of boy, there's no
news because nobody is playing. Right. No, we gotta start
(19:28):
televising these joint practices. They're better than the bleeping games
on Saturdays and Sundays. We were just starting to creep
back to that. And I'm telling you, after this news,
we're gonna go back to guys aren't playing. Young superstars
aren't gonna play. Maybe you'll get a cameo appearance here
and there for a series just to get them used
to it. But that trend of hey, maybe getting back
(19:49):
to seeing players play and seeing stars play, seeing quarterbacks play,
that's gonna end because you saw the Vikings say, oh, okay,
here's a guy that we were counting on being our
quarterback probably by week five, week six, middle of the season,
and we were gonna take you know, that was gonna
be it. See what kind of guy we have? What
was the real benefit of giving him all kinds of
(20:10):
extended action. In Week one of the preseason, they gave
him extended action and any tours ACL So I merely
that that's kind of what teams are gonna look at
and say, why are we playing our guys? Like why
would Michael Pennix Junior play another series, you know, or
maybe more than one series right now? Why why would
you do that to any of those guys. So I
think you're gonna start seeing an immediate pullback on players playing.
(20:31):
You're gonna see this weekend. Oh, hey, we thought we
were gonna see Bonnicks. Nah, Bonnix is not gonna play.
I know, but we don't need to see Bonix now.
Aaron Rodgers we thought, no, no, he's not gonna play.
You're gonna see teams pull back on that, and that's
gonna be the next phase is getting back to where hey,
stars aren't playing during the preseason because all you is
one reminder like this, and that's gonna change everybody's mind
back again.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Yeah, the curiosity, you know, in the knee jerk reaction,
how much the players push to play, Because I mean
that was some of the groundswell, was that you had
mahomes and and Burrow and others who said, hey, I
need to get some reps. Your guy rogers, how much
of it is pr versus reality? You can sort it
out there with jet guy, but a lot of it.

You know, we we were excited that preseason games there
was a reason to tune in at least for a
short spell, right, even at the end of Hard Knocks,
talking about, Hey, you know we're gonna come back out,
same aggression for next week. I'm like, I have more
Caleb Williams. Eh, maybe he's now stuck in a box.

You don't see Caleb Williams. You don't see him till
week one. I didn't even want him in practice. I
just keep him home watching film. Hey, just play Madden,
work on your work on your reflex. I don't even
want to see you in practice till week one. I
don't want you playing with your dog.

I don't want you walking out to a swimming pool
where there might be a wet deck. Can't do it,
loose sight packaging for you back up on the wall.

Have they worked out some deals? Yes? Have they worked
out any deals that Brandon Ayuk wants. Not yet. Supposedly

there's a deal on table with the Steelers, which is
his preferred destination. Yet for some reason that's not done.
You why is that not done? You're not entering into
a negotiation to get Brandon Ayuk unless you know you're
gonna pay him thirty million dollars a year and he's
okay with going there like I'm done. You know, I
don't care if he stays or he gets traded. At
this point, I don't care. But just make a bleeping decision.

He's not Mahomes, He's not Lamar Jackson, He's not right.

all right, now, you're not getting back a receiver, most
likely because you were going to get back somebody from
either the Patriots or the Browns. Maybe was Amari Cooper,

maybe not, but the Steelers need a receiver. They're not
gonna give you somebody back, right, So that's not They
need somebody opposite George Pickens, so that's not happening if
you trade Brandon Ayuk. Understand, if you are the forty
nine Ers, and this is a big deal, you are
all in this season to win the Super Bowl because
after this, guess what, You're not gonna be favorites anymore.

You're just gonna be one of a bunch of hopefuls.
You know why, because Brock Purdy's gonna get sixty million
dollars a year. You think he's not. Brock Purdy is
going to get sixty million dollars a year. He has
another year just like last year, putting forty nine Ers
in the playoffs. He's a sixty million dollars a year guy. Right,
And suddenly Christian McCaffrey's twenty nine years old with an
injury history. This is your year if you trade, If
(26:49):
you this is your year, your only year where you
can say we're gonna wind up being fake because we
got all kinds of money to spend everything else. How
hard is it going to be to build a super
Bowl team when you have to pay your quarterback sixty
million dollars? Because that's what it's gonna be. The broc
Olypse is real. It's happening all of a sudden. You're
gonna see guys getting cut the Niners all of a sudden.
(27:10):
We had to move on from this guy, move on
to move on here. We had to move on here,
and the Niners will be just another team that Hey,
maybe we have a chance this year because we have
a pretty good team, right, but the overwhelming super Bowl favorites.
You've been lucky the last couple of years. You had
Brock Purty on his rookie deal. Right, it's been great.
You've been able to go spend money on all kinds
of other players. Guess what he's getting sixty million dollars
a year. So you know you're all in on this season,
(27:32):
on this season, So know that before you trade Brandon
Ayuk because if you trade Ayuk and suddenly because you're
still all in, you're still all in here, it becomes
much tougher for this to be your Super Bowl or
bus type season. So if you trade, understand that this
is this is your year to be all in because
of what's coming. What's a better chance you have won
(27:53):
in the Super Bowl with Brandon Ayucker without him? Of
course it's with him. So if you can find a
way for this year to get whatever it is, hey,
fin find a way, man, because if this happens, this
is your last best chance to win the Super Bowl
before things change immensely in the next couple of years.

Well, they're in that same cycle that they had a
few years back where everything matured at once, a bunch
of deals need to be done, and in this case
it's led by the quarterback. So yeah, there's monies you
can always move around and you create that giant chasm
between your top four or five players and everybody else. Folks,

go look at the rosters of your favorite NFL team
and their salaries. Many are built in the same fashion.
Now it's just a matter of how much you can
of that money you can kick down the road, here's
your giant signing bonus, and then we're gonna stretch it
out and give it as long a tail as we
possibly can. So creative accounting is what needs to be done.
(28:48):
Forty nine are still tied with the Chiefs for the
best Super Bowl odds at six to one. I'm presuming
that's I don't think it's going to have a huge
impact if I where to leave, still looking at where
the NFC is as a whole, not that there aren't contenders,
but certainly losing a big piece like that, and assuming
(29:09):
as much as you love Jimmy Pearsall and those guys
that have been draft, I know it's named not Jimmy
Pearsall TJ.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
Clearly the forty nine ers hoping Fear doesn't strike out
when they've bet him into the Okay, there you go.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
There is our reference for everybody over the age of
sixty or white Sox fans who watched him broadcast wondering
what the hell he was saying when they were kids.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
Look, it's I mean, just understand that things get so
much more difficult, right. They've enjoyed a huge bargain. He's
been a biggest bargain and there's not gonna be any
real doubt that he should get sixty million dollars a year.
If he was just a game there's nobody else manager.
If he was yeah, he was a game manager throwing
twenty touchdowns a year and the team was winn Now.
But this is a guy's throwing thirty touchdowns a year now, man,

I mean, he this is your quarterback, and there's no
reason to think he's going to have a down year
this year. Now, certainly, would a down year this year
make it easy, But I doubt if he has a
down year, guess what, You're not winning the super Bowl
this year and he's still getting a contract extension. So
understand that's what I mean. This is your last year
to be big time Super Bowl favorites before you come
off the board and you're just one of another group
(30:19):
of teams that every year hope this can come together
for you. Now, that's usually great. It's a great place
to live right when you're when you're a yearly favorite
to hey, that's an awesome thing. Hey we can maybe
this is our year, but this is what you're at
the top two or three. You're in the rarefied air
this year as you said them and the Chiefs, the
odds of them getting back to the super Bowl again.

Yeah, Aaron Judge two for four, home run, a double,
three runs batted in, two runs scored. He's also walk
so he's been on base three times tonight. As the
Yankees they were trailing two to one for much of
this game, but right now they're on top nine to two.

in Chicago, and most importantly, the Baltimore Orioles won earlier

this result holds, it'll still be a half a game
lead for New York in that American League East. The
Orioles were certainly hoping that the White Sox could hold
on for that victory against the Yankees, they would have
leap frog back in by half a game, but it's

As for the National League West, and Todgers really starting
to feel the pressure. They're in a wild one right
now with the Milwaukee Brewers. They jumped out to a
three to nothing first inning lead. Owers would score four unanswered,
but Miguel Rojas with an RBI knock to drop in
to drive in Mookie Betts to tie it back up
at four runs a piece. There are in the seventh
inning over at American Family Field. And as for the

rest of the NLS, the reason why the Dodgers feel
in the presserts because the Diamondbacks and Padres won't lose
since the All Star break Arizona now twenty and five,
including in eleven four victory against the Rockies.

They finish off a sweep of the Pirates eight to

Athletics nine to one. NFL JJ McCarthy gonna miss the
season as he needed a full repair that torn meniscus

he suffered in his right knee, and Kevin O'Connell saying
Jordan Addison will be okay after he was carted off
the field. He did hurt his ankle, but all appears
to be fine. And Matthew Jullion going from New England
to the Atlanta Falcons as a Patriots dealing him for

like in his coffee, He's just putting it everywhere.

Is that cream? No? No mayonnaise? Uh, I don't know
spraying it on me? Like, like, what would I risk
putting that on? Like if I had a date, Like,
if I had a date, I'm gonna wear my mayonnaise
colone tonight, I don't know.

That's why I think so, because it's it's a conversation starter.

No no, no, no bar, no no no. If I'm
going out to the bar with a bunch of my
friends and we're hanging out, I'll wear the mayonnaise clone
because then it's a conversation starter and then maybe I
meet somebody. But if I'm going on a date, like
that's a that's a hell of a lot to hang
on on the beginning of the date. What kind of
colone is that? It's mayonnaise? It's what I'll be right back.
I'm too go to the bathroom and uh, you know,

just order me a water for now and I'll be
right there. And then a minute later you're see your
running on the other side. She's called an uber to
come leave. Guy's wearing mayonnaise perfume, a mayonnaise cologne. Man,
can't hang anymore, gotta go.

They also had to deal with a local coffee place
called the Mayo Mocha out there for him as well. So,
I mean, he's got everything going. But yeah, it's lemon
