Speaker 1 (00:27):

(00:51):
dot com is the way tire buying should be. Are
you just playing this at an inordinately loud level? What
I mean?
Speaker 3 (01:00):
I know sometimes we come in and the headsets are
cranked up a little bit loud. I fear for the
hearing of a lot of our colleagues here at Fox
Sports Trading, Like one of that one.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Just felt a little loud. I feel like one of
those singers whenever they don't do well in public, they
go well, I couldn't hear myself in in in the feedback,
the back of the record, I couldn't. There was no
mixed minus. I couldn't hear so I didn't sound very well.
I didn't. I didn't I do something so I didn't
know what it was. I couldn't hear myself. It's a
whole thing. Was that a whole hearing test thing that
he was trying to do? It might have been. And
the louder I made it in my headphones, the louder
(01:31):
it got. I don't know if people even understand what
was even said. Tight shirt, I'm just gonna play this
music really loud. It's your team loud noises, all right, Well,
I was trying to drown out booze and the four
letter words being shouted at your squad. Oh well, we
have had tonight now the return of two big things.
(01:53):
M hm, the NFL for week two of the preseason. Sure,
and then I'm digging the WNBAB and back then yeah tomorrow, body,
we get the EPL During the day, two lots of stuff.
So it's returning now the Olympics. Okay, the Olympics are
done it back now, but let's start with the NFL game.
(02:13):
The Eagles go for too late, yeah, convert and beat
the Patriots fourteen thirteen. Two players are getting a lot
of attention more than any other tonight, Drake May and
Kenny Pickett. And first of all, let's dismiss Kenny Picket
before we get into the big tick. Kenny Pickett. This
was a typical Kenny Pickett preseason game. Right. He was
(02:34):
like nine out of eleven throwing the football for like
forty yards. He got sacked four times, and it was hey,
maybe Kenny Pickett can turn into something. If no check
Kenny Pickett's check. No, he's not asking for a check. Check,
turn back to the ball. I mean, look, this is
Kenny Pickett. Okay, this if you really think that, if
(02:57):
you're in Philadelphia and you go, man, you know, Sirianni
and Jalen Hurts can't get it, get it together. If
they can't get together, obviously, if they could bench Jalen
will be fine. We'll play Kenny Pickett. I watched him
in Pittsburgh and they one games. Yeah, this is what
it's gonna look like if you play Kenny Pickett, if
you have to play Kenny Pickett. That's why I always
love the teams get that reality check of how good
(03:19):
is our starting quarterback really when they don't play in
the preseason and you look at your backup and you go, yeesh, Okay,
I take back what I said. I understand, I get
it now, I understand. It's okay.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
It's okay you sell a little bit harder on your
your starter, there's no question about it. But in the background,
you're still wondering what's left of your squad as a whole, because,
let's face it, there's it's only week two. Yeah, a
lot of these players, they're still saying there's gonna be
a bunch of starters playing again. Believe it when we
see it over the course of the next couple of days.
(03:52):
But it's been pretty sloppy and a lot of dink
and dunk passes, right, because you go back and watch
this game tonight, Well, you got six of eleven for
forty seven yards for Drake May Yeah, and he threw
a nice little flat pass.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Sure, sure, but again, quarterbacks have like the like in
the movies the and what was it in Running Man
when when Schwarzenegger had the Colorado if you run past
a certain leveled shock, Yeah, it explodes in I think
that's what happens if quarterbacks throw at more than ten yards.
If you throw this more than ten yards, you're gonna
get that shock you get No, no, no, no. I
(04:25):
saw it in Running Man. The guys had exploded when
he ran. Now, I don't want that. I don't want
that at all. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
No, we need to keep it short and simple, long
protracted drives. That's really what we're working here and operating to.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Yeah, the long off the night for they did have
a twenty three yard game to Hasty, otherwise you're looking
at thirteen twelve whatever. On the other side, there was
one pass that went for twenty eight yards. That's good.
Six passes in double you know, double digit, that's that's good.
But all in all, not aesthetically pleasing. No, no, and
(04:57):
not just because it was fourteen thirteen. You could have
a hell of a lot of actions between the twenties. Sure,
that just doesn't come to scoring drives. This is just bad. Now,
there's a bigger take here other than you know, the
Eagles have to understand. Okay, if somebody's got to go
between Sirianni and Hurts, it's gonna be Sirian Yeah. Okay,
don't think Jalen. But all four quarterbacks for New England
(05:19):
played tonight, right. Drake May played ran for a touchdown.
Very nice. Oh yeah no, no, not did not throw
the ball all that great? Bailly's Appy played, Joe Milton played,
presume starter. Jacoby Brissett played the four of them. We're
fourteen out of twenty nine for ninety yards. Yeah, okay,
the New England Patriots, you ready for that? Ninety yards
(05:43):
and four quarters of play?
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Wait, are you gonna say you have some bold proclamation?
Speaker 1 (05:47):
The New England Patriots. This is this is where, this
is where, this is where. Just understand, this is where
we're at. They are on a list of teams that
only have one thing wrong with them, one thing. That's it.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
You can dismiss him. You don't have to go position
by position, that position group.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
No, no, no, no, the house wrong are they at linebackers?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
So you're just lumping the entire squad together in one
fell swoop. There are coming to an assessment.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
There are five teams, right, now that I say, you
know what, they all are falling the category of just
having one thing wrong with them. You're going for a
five Bundy five. I'll tell you the other four are.
But but deal with the Patriots first. Here, I want
a five count. Give me the five. Well, let's go.
But there's what's the comic? Is only one thing count? Okay?
(06:34):
Very good? All right, very good? Is he retired or
is he still I don't know what he's new, tight
shirt or Frances Well, you pick one, no, Francis, because
I I'm talking about how the end of the like
everybody's moving stations in New York City and okay, so
you know he's talking about that. No, there's look, I mean,
it's a job. It could be it could be good
news because you think, okay, well, you know the Patriots,
(06:55):
we don't have a lot of playmakers on either side
of the ball. We're starting over in a rookie head coach.
You don't know this rookie quarterback is going to be good.
But I'm gonna say, hey, there's only one thing wrong.
One thing's gonna hold them back. One y not just
what one thing wrong that if you fix that, everything
will be fine. The only thing you have to fix
if you're the Patriots, well, I don't know normal football talk.
You just say, well, you know, if they can get
(07:16):
the quarterback right now, that's true. No, that is true.
That is true.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
But in this case it's even more elemental than it is.
It's actually I just I can read your eyes.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
And if if you if they fix this thing, everything
will be all right with them. There's only one thing wrong.
And now the Patriots go on this list of teams,
five teams, one thing wrong with them. Okay, that's it.
Now ask me what it is? Now?
Speaker 3 (07:37):
What is that one thing that's gonna hold them back
from being successful in twenty twenty four?
Speaker 1 (07:43):
They stink, that's all. Okay, so they're they're a top
the leaderboard.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Stink.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
That's what it is. The Patriots should be competing for
the number one pick next year. That's how bad they got. Sure,
that's the lack of talent they have on this They
are over under on Winds was four and a half.
It's it's gonna be less than that. I thought, Wow,
they're gonna pull off a win tonight because they were
up thirteen to six for the most part. And I said, huh,
they're gonna wind up win more games in the preseason
the regular season, but now they're still only one in one.
(08:11):
So that I but look, they don't have Look, Ramandre
Stevenson is a terrific running back, right they signed him
for for a nice a nice deal for him. But
there's nobody that you can say, all right, this is
what we're really excited about this year. They're going to
be terrible. You trade one of your best players three
weeks before the regular season starts. I get it, right,
Matthew Jude, I get it. He's thirty two. You want
(08:32):
to get some form. But when you are trading one
of your best players, this tells, hey, you know what,
this season we're gonna stink because if we were gonna
be any good, we would have wound up keeping him,
figuring something else out we would have done. Well, that's
whatened I you talked never made any sense, No good
familiar for the Patriots. It was good for Brandon. I.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Eventually Kendrick is gonna find his way to another team.
He will get Dell because he can actually play.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Now.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
While I say this, remember the last week and we
talked about this, I said this was I said, good
things about the Patriots. It did good. They didn't make
that move. That's it was good, all right, stink four
and a half. This is one of the worst teams
in the NFL. Everybody in the division is better than
they are. I don't know how they're going to win.
I don't know who's going to be their quarterback because
all the quarterbacks look like boy, they're in trouble. Like
(09:20):
Jacoby Brissett looks terrible. And I get it, yes he's
one game, he's been in the legue a while, but
you're really gonna try out Jacoby Brissett, which means, okay,
we don't try out Jacoby Brissett. We can't start Bailey's appy.
We're gonna start Drake May Is. Drake May gonna be ready,
of course not. He's got no reps, no nothing. The
Patriots are gonna stink. They should be. We should be
down to them at the end of the season for
the number one draft pick next year in the draft.
(09:41):
They picked third this year with their quarterback, they'll pick
first next year. They'll take Shador Sanders and they'll spin
off Drake may somewhere else. That's how it's gonna go. Yeah,
and all the all the good things. We talked up
Joe Milton a week ago. He just had no pocket
presence whatsoever. Yeah, it was just terrible. They're awful.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Yes, they're the worst start. We got four other teams.
There's only there's only one thing wrong with them, one
thing wrong wrong.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
They stink. That's all the Raiders, okay, the Giants, the Saints,
and the Cardinals. One of those teams, Cardinals, of course, Well,
how's it going to go for the car? Kyler Murray
is gonna play. He's not gonna quite play to the
level they expect him to play at. He's probably gonna
get hurt at some point. Everything's gonna go south fast.
(10:29):
This is the Arizona Car. I actually I am actually
on the other side of them. One of it breaks properly.
One of those five teams you forgot, the Broncos. I
think the Broncos will be a little bit better. I
think they'll be a little bit better because Sean Payton,
outside of Russell Wilson, has made it work with every
quarterback that he's had, and the Broncos made some moves
in the off season. They I think a little bit
of addition by subtraction. I think the Broncos will be
(10:52):
okay because that division is not going to be great,
right the Raiders stink. Who knows when Justin Herbert is
gonna come, the Charge will be on this list East
and Stick. If I thought Justin Hurt was gonna be
out a long time, the Charges would be on this list.
But right now, Herbert's meaning to come back early part
of the season, so that they're They're at eight and
a half for their win total, but the divisions turn
so in terms of win totals is Vegas and Sader
(11:13):
Patriots are worse. And then you got the Broncos and
Panthers together as the next two teams see.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
I like the Panthers a little bit more. I believe
in a little bit more like Canalis. I think they
brought in a few guys. Yeah, they're gonna be interesting
to get gets past the little injury woes. They've got
a receiving corps.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
I think they in that division and it's not yet
they got it away division. Then you have the Titans,
who I'm more bullish on their exit. I think they'll
be fine as well. Commanders at six and a half.
Jayden Daniels is good. He's gonna wind up win some games. Man,
He's gonna wind up. When you have the Raiders and Giants,
they both stink, and then your your guy that we've
talked about a lot this week, Sam Darnold, along with
(11:54):
the Saints, Seahawks, Buccaneers, and Cardinals all at seven and
a half. I left the Vikings off because I felt
like I gave them a little too much this week.
Like it's like, okay, you know what I gotta I
got to back off. But some folks said we thought
they were Super bowlted contenders. They would be on the
list if I wasn't so hard on them the last
couple of days. I'm just I'm just giving them a break.
(12:14):
I just giving them a.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
Break because you you were kicking them like you were at.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
King No no, no, no, but one of these five from there.
Because all of these teams are spinning their wheels slash
starting over. The Patriots are completely starting over. They have
hardly any talent. The Giants are spinning their wheels until
next year. Daniel Jones, isn't any good. You saw what
happen after they fell off a year ago. The Saints
are going to be terrible. Okay, the same. This is
a team, and I'm like, wow, they might wind up
(12:44):
really being the team when it comes down to it
at the end. They can wind up drafting number one.
But yeah, what I keep telling you, they should trade
Derek Carr back to the Raiders. Trade Derek Carr, the Vikings,
Cold do that, you could do, but the but the Saints.
You think about the excitement level coming into this season
is that after last year, it's not at a high level.
Derek Carr is not great. They didn't fix the running
(13:04):
game at all. This is a this is a bad team.
One of these teams will be picking first overall. Of
all those teams, one team I could see winning five
or six and getting out of there. I could give
you Arizona on that, I'll give you of the five teams,
I say, hey, who's the least likely to be picking first,
I'll give you Arizona. But Vegas, Giants, Saints, and Patriots
(13:24):
all seasons that can go south really early. And if
they go south, forget it. They don't find their way
back out out of the hole like Baine. Now, after
all of that, no getting out of the hole, Yes,
mister warning. The reason that they're all on your list
of the worst five teams in the NFL. Again, for
those that might have missed it, only one reason, one reason,
one reason. Ask me why, just give me a reason.
(13:45):
They stink just a little bit. That's all you need.
I'm gonna start singing the whole ping song. That is
all you need. That's all you need. But Wow, the
Patriots right now, Patriots raiders, they might be my pri
oh see Saints, No, you gotta be cared for one.
I gotta be strong. Patriots are my leader right now
(14:07):
for picking first overall.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
My leader up Vegas has Vegas. I think that has
that one right Yeah? And that four and a half
that might be a little that might be a little optimistic.
Speaker 1 (14:18):

Speaker 1 (15:54):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon, live from the tie rag dot com studios. Well,
the first polls of the season are out for college football.
We got quarterback decisions, we got injuries, we had all
kinds of stuff to break down. It is time. There's
been a long, hot summer. Welcome back to the program.
(16:17):
Longtime friend of the show, the editor, proprietor publisher Grand
Pooba of College Footballnews dot com. It is longtime friend
of the show, Pete Feutech. He is on Twitter at
petefeuw tech and let me be the first to break
this news here. Pete doesn't know I'm gonna do this,
but not only will he be continuing on again with
College Footballnews dot com, he is now the new starting
(16:40):
running back for the Texas Long about that. Congratulations Pete.
He moved to the depth chart. Pretty good there.
Speaker 5 (16:45):
You know what a beautiful thing. I'm proud of this.
I don't think that my four year show clause is
gonna matter here. Yeah, don't think me. I'm proud to
be a part of this. That it is an NCAA
violation to have poison as your life. Walk up music. Oh,
I know that Okay, Yeah, so unfortunately, you guys kind
of like, yo, Harbaugh, buy a kid a sandwich, you know,
(17:07):
like you guys didn't know. I'll blame you, but I
am I'm not ineligible, but I will still try to
be able to play anyway.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
Well, this is where we play the violins in the background.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
You tell me how you hope that one day everything
will be right and fair for the student athletes.
Speaker 5 (17:22):
I love him, He's awesome. I mean, seriously, if you're
Jim Harbaugh, you're like, guys, I'm the coach of the
Los Angeles Chargers. I don't care, like seriously four years. Ooh,
like he's not gonna be college head coach for four years. So,
like it's the dumbest thing ever. The NCAA didn't we
(17:44):
said this at the time when we were talking about
this last year, Like if you're not going to get
them last year and ban them from the Big Ten
Championship and all the other stuff from there, then what
are we doing here? I mean there's just no point.
I mean it's it's like, oh no, they might vacate wins.
There might be an asterisk, soone like nobody cares. I mean,
(18:06):
they guess all the dumb Michigan fans. Who are you know?
I can't stick at dead catter on this town without
finding a Michigan fan wearing something Michigan eque. They don't care.
They won the national championship.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Whatever are they gonna get hit by the NCAA. Is
it gonna be a big deal? Are we going to see, Hey,
guess what, you can't be the Fox Big newon kickoff
team anymore? And all different things?
Speaker 5 (18:28):
Oh, they no, I would guess. I mean, like, really,
what are they going to hit him with? They might
vacate the wins, Well, it doesn't mean that Washington's a
national champion. They might do something with recruiting restrictions to
a certain extent, but that doesn't matter in a transfer
portal era. So anything short of saying that they are
(18:51):
ineligible from playing in the postseason nothing else to us.
And the weird part about this is and everyone kind
of forgets this, and I actually, you know, I'm not
obviously I'm not a fan of everything that was allegedly
going on, but the counter stallion stuff had nothing to
exactly all good. There's nothing in the rule book that
(19:11):
says you can't do that. And this is the brilliance
of Harbaugh that everyone keeps forgetting. Everyone else has a
failure of imagination from the start of his tenure when
he stayed overnight in some punter's house or whatever that was,
to all the other things where he pushed every single
envelope like he was just smarter than everyone.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
I know.
Speaker 5 (19:30):
It's so weird because he's such a goof. He was
just smarter when he came to like really pushing the
lines of stuff that didn't really matter in the real world.
We're not talking about you know, you know, covering up
you know, major crimes or anything. Here, you're talking about
NCAA rules and they got into a national title. So
what are they gonna get him for. He didn't cooperate
(19:52):
with the NCAA, So Michigan cannot go to the new
expanding college football playoff. Nah, they're not going to do
that to him.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Meanwhile, preseason Top three.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
On the other side, Ohio State names their quarterback Will
Howard will be the man for Ryan Day and the
buck guys, where we still get the same belittling of
their toughness in this next season.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
I'm just gonna say this now as we talk here
was at August fifteenth, and be considering the Football Playoffs
National Championship. There is January twentieth. It's so long. We're
gonna be doing this the whole way. The same answer
is gonna come out. It doesn't matter. We're just killing
time until how dieting Georgia played for the national final.
(20:34):
It just it, just it. I'd love to make this
more interesting, I hope, but the reality is they are
so much better than everybody else. This year. Georgia's schedule
is brutal. I mean, that's the schedule that anybody else
goes like four and eight with, but they got everyone back.
Ohio State schedule is like Michigan. Michigan of last year
(20:57):
looked like murder Row when you look at their non
confer so uh dere because yeah, you know, Will Howard.
The problem is going to be that Ohio State fans
are going to still miss DJ Stroud. I mean, if
you remember the the progression of quarterbacks, which is always
this was a Michigan problem because Michigan had John o'corn,
you know, Shaye Patterson, and meanwhile they're Ohio State's trying
(21:19):
out Dwayne Haskins and Justin Fields and you know, Braxton Miller,
and then all of a sudden they get c. J. Stroud,
who absolutely goes off as the most fun player in
the NFL probably right now.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
And then you go to Common Cord, who's actually good
last year. Will Howard's fine, They're not going to wing
the ball around for five thousand yards and being this
high profile, you know text, but they don't have to
be because their defense as it was constructed and who's
coming back is only going to give up like fourteen
points a game or fewer. And then they had to
Kale down. So all you got to do is get
(21:51):
in a real old quarterback to know what he's doing,
and that's Howards.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
The thing is, Pete, is that you know, looking at
this season, I don't know is Ryan Day going to
even be able to enjoy games they win, because I
don't think there's anybody with more pressure on him this
year than Day at Ohios date, like anything less than
the National Championship Game is going to be. We have
to fire this guy. I know he's eighty seven and
four with all of his losses being to Michigan, but
(22:18):
we got to get rid of this guy.
Speaker 5 (22:20):
I'm just gonna say that I'm gonna be hot. I've
disappointed you. I've disappointed that question. You know this, I do.
There is no more miserable fan base ever ever in
the history of the Earth sporting events than Ohio State.
They can't You're dead on right. Ryan Day has won
(22:43):
eighty eight percent of his games. He came within a
wide left kick of going on to win the National
championship two years ago. You know, loses the Michigans, find
the other bad find a bad loss of to Ryan
Day and the bull game. The Missouri last year isn't
early cold. It's Michigan. They had one home loss to
a pretty good Oregon team and then he lost to like,
(23:03):
you know, twenty twenty Alabama, you know, and for the
national championship they lost the Clemson who played for the
national titt Ryan Day has been phenomenal And like you
to your question, I'm joking. Obviously, you're right, what a
what a horrible job. He might be the best coach
in college football. It's out of Kirby smart right now.
And he's get zero credit for any of this because
(23:28):
all anybody cares abouts Michigan. And the perfect there of
this is that you could say and this happened under
two years ago and they almost beat Georgia. Is that
they would have gone on in Truant's DCU obviously, And
I swear on Twitter or whatever it's called, I had
a slewable house. They fan base people saying, yeah, we
would have won the national championship, but who cares we
(23:49):
lost to Michigan. Like that's how miserable these people are.
Speaker 1 (23:53):

Speaker 3 (23:57):
It's a new college football season at college football News
dot com. Find him on Twitter at Pete Futech for
all the latest choices each and every week talking all
things college football. He's been immersed in all of the
minus ship college football because sure as hell isn't watching
Chicago baseball the last couple of months.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
So Pete dialed in city.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
Wow, is this and a boring hard knock?
Speaker 1 (24:20):
No? It's awful?
Speaker 5 (24:20):
Could Chicago sports be any worse all the way around?
I mean, just really, I know the pairs are probably
gonna be good, but you're right, man, this this city
for sports is not a plus.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Tell you what.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
The first two the second episode of Hard Knocks, the
highlight was, Hey, come to the ice cream Museum.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
Okay, cool. Uh so the obviously go ahead.
Speaker 5 (24:40):
Why were they there by? Why were they there by themselves?
By the way, did they get the place to just
close it down? Like where's the where's the rest of
the tour? They just gotta gave it up for DJ Moore.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
J Moore and his family said, beat it.
Speaker 5 (24:50):
I guess he's that big a deal.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
Okayp He did sign the contract in week one, So
you got to follow the evolution. Uh as you go forward,
you know, obviously, uh lot of lights and column inches
that go towards Dion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes. In
the next iteration of this squad, he's shunning reporters and
quieting them and all of the usual noise that.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
We've become accustomed to. What are you expecting for year two?
Speaker 5 (25:18):
Yeah, we joker, But look at that schedule and find
me the win. It's it's crazy how this has worked.
But yeah, look, if this was just coach Jones, this
is just a regular guy, the narrative would be different
because I remember Colorado was awful two years ago and
they went from I think it was one win to
four wins and they depended with a bunch of others
and they're exciting, and so in any other coaching situation,
(25:41):
you'd say, hey, look that was a good step forward.
Now you go six and six or seven and five
and you make a move, you change conferences and stuff.
But this is the and I say this as a diehard.
Don Sanders Fay might be my favorite athlete of all time,
but man, that guy put together a team of all
frosting and no cake. I mean, they just they they
still have it, put together the lines, they're they're still
(26:04):
not addressing recruiting classes like they need to. And again,
look at that schedule. They'll probably beat Cincinnati, and of
course they're gonna win a few games here or there.
They could lose to North Dakota State to open the season.
That's that might be the best team in the FCS
this year. They're gonna lose it Nebraska. They're gonna lose
probably their first stretch of games. And so all of
(26:25):
that schedule, you know, they're five and a half win total.
Because everyone's fill in love with d on the whole story,
but find me six wins on this schedule, and that's
not gonna go over well. Because he does not like
to be criticized.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
If he's four and eight again in year to four
and five and seven? Is there a year three of
d On in Colorado?
Speaker 5 (26:44):
It depends on him and depends on how he handles
it if you can, if you can justify it by
being like, you know what, we're really close. But yeah,
I'm sure there's a great movie reference that I'm diffing here,
But like, how many more suns do you have? Like
Sadure is gone, all those other kids are going to
be off to the NFL are doing something else, so
(27:04):
they're not a whole lot of standards And Travis Hunker
is still around. And so when you've got a situation
like that and you say, okay, well you're gonna sell
this program, it doesn't seem like Colorado is doing much.
If you have a four and eight season, How you
getting those guys to come to Boulder? I unless you're
getting cal So and let's just he's fine. As long
as they look like they're close, it looks like you
(27:27):
could build something and they lose a bunch of you know,
one score games or something like that. But I just
don't see how those they did not do enough to
improve their lines. And that was a big problem last year.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
All right, I'll take it outside of the games itself
for you as you get ready to embark on another
college football season. You know, what, what are you doing
to get yourself in shape these last couple of weeks
before the kickoff?
Speaker 2 (27:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (27:51):
You joke about this, and it's really serious. I stay
up late. I have stayed up late the last two
weeks nice, just to kind of get myself prepared. And
it's my joke. And every year it's they're they're like
Ray mckecnee jokes, you know, up the up and down
the river here. But my big thing I get not joking.
Don't hurt my hands, because you can't type a million
(28:14):
words about dumb college football stuff if you're heard something
And what did I do yesterday? I burnt my finger
and so I was like, oh man, so we're getting
going out there playing on a torn a c L
or something like this. Try typing when you can't use
your index finger. That's fun.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Look out for aip futech this year. Doubtful pete feu
tech burnt.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
Finger, Yeah, chat f i U here we go. No.
But so yes, in my really weird nerdy way, of course,
I do have to sort of in my age. I
can't just go out there and you know, you know,
put in someven strong innings and just you know, go
back to my lifestyle of burgers and you know, boos
and all that stuff. I have to actually do, have
to somewhat get into playing shape.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Now. No, it's gonna be like like I'm picturing you, Pete,
like in Rocky Too. When when when Mickey tape Rocky
left arm to his side and made him just punch
and change like you like like doing the same thing.
You have your your your bad finger and then you're
using like your ring finger to replace you just keep
hitting buttons on your computer as they're playing Gonna fly
now behind you?
Speaker 5 (29:13):
Oh man, good, you guys know. But wait till like
mid October when I'm doing this hit with you guys,
and I'm just on fumed. At that point, I can't
just smelling get in there, just get out there. Oh god,
I to write about some Boisey State game.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
Damn towel. He's on Twitter at Pete feu Tech that
is at Pete feud Tech and to join us every
week during college football season. Pete Happy Summer continues. We'll
talk to you next week, buddy, guys, have a good one.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
Be good, buddy. I was expecting, you know, another bad finger,
A bad finger. He's gotta I got, I got a
bad motor finger. DJ The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Carmen Live from the Tirac dot Com Studios.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
Right now. A guy you gonna sip surprised he only
has four fingers and yet he can fly through the
keyboard with ease. It's because he lost the other six
in vets. It's seem to sega with what's trenda.
Speaker 6 (30:11):
Four finger brown? The old Hall of Fame Pitcher? Yea, hey, Mordecai,
he was three finger brown? How good would he have
been with four fingers? What if he had? How good
would he have been with?
Speaker 1 (30:21):
What if he had six? Like Alfon six?
Speaker 6 (30:23):
Oh see, there you go, more recent pitcher. Wasn't the
spitball legal in the three finger Brown era?
Speaker 1 (30:29):
Yeah? I think it was. It was also legal for
the Mets tonight when the Hawk to a girl throughout
the first ball. You know that was a spitball as well. Okay,
let's move on.
Speaker 6 (30:40):

oh three to sixty eight. Minnesota beat Washington.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Hit refreshedd Eve. It can't be. I can't do the
final score that's current like one O three to ninety five, right, no.
Speaker 7 (31:21):
No sixty eight, one O three sixty eight. Their first
rounder was actually in the building, but of course her
knee is somewhere else. Phoenix won by twenty at Chicago.

I want to pass it.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
Yes, I'm gonna do at two and a half years,
then maybe I wandered the desert.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
There we go some coaching news won a new head coach,
one a coach that's probably not gonna happen. Okay, first one,
as we talked about last night end of the show
on news Broke, Mauricio Pocatino from Chelsea is going to
be the new US men's national coach, replacing Greg Burholter.
And I know everybody's reaction is I don't know a
(34:12):
lot about him, but is his last name Burhlter? No?
Then it's a great hire and I love it? Is
it new, It's embracing new. It's funny.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
If you're listening on the iHeartRadio app, you might have
just heard a little bit of Colin Coward talking about
embracing new.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
Is he related to Burhlter?
Speaker 5 (34:28):
No?
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Great Hire love it? How different is his system? Was
Burhlter in on this? No Great Great Hire Love it?
Have you released the transcripts to prove Burhlter was not
associated with this? Now, look not to spend too much
time on this, but look, this is a big hire.
People wanted Burholter out and the thing that needs to
(34:49):
happen now is that he needs to have. He needs
to be the identity of US soccer. He needs the
US team. Men's team has to have an identity, and
they don't have one. It's just we get a bunch
of guys that play across the country and they come
back and they still have trouble motivating them to play.
They have trouble motivating them to play together. It doesn't
look like they have a system and it's just a
(35:10):
bunch of guys thrown together in Borholton never was able
to figure out the players as they work together. So
that's the one thing I hope that he's able to
do over the course of the next you know, a
couple of years. Getting to the World Cup is hey,
you got to have some kind of identity, have some
kind of system. Who are we what are we going
to do? Are we going to be physical? That's a
lot of his Chelsea team's been physical. But whatever it's
(35:31):
going to be, let's say, hey, this is what the
United States is, this is what we have to have
an identity and we haven't had one for years. So
that's that's the biggest thing. Whatever we wind up having
that happen with player wise and there, but we got
to have an identity and we don't have it. Look,
the US women's national team didn't have an identity. What's
gonna happen in the Olympics. We have no idea. After
day one? What was it? The trident the three best
(35:52):
forwards in the world all playing together. Boom, that's their
identity now for the next two World Cups. So add
in ma Hayes from Chelsea, not shake stir Boom, here's
your identity. The tried it. The three best forwards in
the world.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
Go yeah, I mean they've named themselves triple Espresso, so
you got to get used to that.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
Try it and away. Okay, it's hard to hashtag triple
espresso and spell it right and all that s because
everybody says expresso anyway. Yeah, yeah, it's espresso. It's not
express acts.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
I mean there when you verbalize things, stuff happens. But yes,
the change is huge, you know, in reading you know,
articles and doing the prep and talking about his contract
and unresolved things. When he'll exactly take over. It's like
he's expected to be on the sideline for the seventh
against Canada, but in between, how fast is he get
(36:46):
into the building like that? That seems like a very
giant question mark standing there as we go.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
But as we've talked about quite a bit through this
process and some of the the missteps along the way
trying to bring back and get Jurgen Clop back into things,
and all of that is just how divided the ranks
are for the men's soccer program top to bottom right,
(37:13):
how divisive it is in terms of the process of
coming through the developmental cycle and how we promote and
how we coach and philosophies. It's just so disjointed. On
the women's side, it was all right, you're losing a
lot of the old guard and a lot of it
will towards the old coaching staff started to find its
(37:35):
way to the surface. So Emma Hayes comes in and
it's like, don't know how it's gonna work. Ten games later, Well,
you have your identity and as you said, you've got
your three up front. Now you build the rest of it.
That's it, that's all you have to do. We found
how do you build the identity? Well, here's what I
was able to do. I kept Alex Morgan off the
team and because that was only going to drag us down,
remind us of who we're holding on to and instead
(37:57):
look at what we What do you do with those
peanut butter cups? Oh they did not age. Yeah, I
haven't had any yet. Yeah, but for that commercial with
Alex Morgan and Sophia Smith, you don't have to choose.
You can have both of us.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
The thing is, though Emma Hayes did choose, and she
chose her and not You remember.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
When the mayor was giving a speech in the nineteen
eighty nine classic Tim Burton Batman and Jack Nicholson's joker
comes on the screen and eventually just pushes him off
the monitor on.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
That's kind of what's happening here, although Sophia Smith's not
doing it herself. No, Emma Hayes and the women's national
team and those that decided on the roster kind of
did that for her. The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon Live from the Tireck dot Com Studio. So from
that head coaching situation to what's going on right now
(38:45):
in the wake of JJ McCarthy's injury and Jim Harbaugh
telling everybody that, hey, I called Colin Kaepernick months ago
because he coached him with the San Fransco forty nine
Ers got to a Super Bowl about coming back to
the Chargers and haven't heard back. You know, I've been
around a bunch of things, haven't heard. But it was
(39:07):
just a few months ago. In other way, you know,
I texted him back in January and he never got
back to me because he would like him to come
back to the Chargers. But as a coach, interesting he
can help Greg Roman in the US. Sure, anytime somebody
gets hurt, you know, you're still going to see Colin
Kaepernick's name pop up. It's going to happen. But coming
(39:28):
up next, there is just one reason, and this is
not my fun reason. There's only one reason why Colin
Kaepernick is gonna say no and he's not going to
be a coach in the NFL, even though it's where
he should go. Right you want to get back in.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
The say to imagine.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
No No. That story and John Madden and Nicholas Cage
coming up next, Fox
