Speaker 3 (01:35):
Types of stories because it just gives.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Another opportunity for insiders to do what they always do.
They're the worst weatherman on the planet. They'll tell you
it's gonna snow tomorrow, it's seventy five and sunny, it's
gonna rain tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
It's seventy five, and Sonny, it'll be seventy five and
Sunday tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
You know it's a tornado. What's going on here? And
you know what they do. They come back to work
the next day and do it all. I was told that.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Brandon Ayuk was done with the San Francisco forty nine
ers so far so that the deal was in pace
for him to go to Pittsburgh, and it didn't happen.
You know there there were only haggling over contract numbers
and that's it. But forty nine Ers and the Steelers,
they were all good. It was all the haggling was
a Yuk's camp.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
And remember Mika Fitzpatrick's name had came up in those
trade negotiations.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
So Amari Cooper said, hey, I'm paraphrasing, but sent me
out there if you'd like. And then when the Browns
were targeted for Brandon Ayuk. But now today's installment on
days of our wide receiver's lives. John Lynch said that
he understands the quote urgency, saying I'm not going to
(02:51):
characterize any chances or anything, but I could tell you
it's been a long ardent, was hard process, a hard journey.
We started this early and we haven't been able to
get across the finish line. Is frustrating, but the communications
still really good with Brandon and his agent. We're trying
to figure out solutions. I'm going to have to miss
the person in nature, and I'm always hopeful we'll get
there and get there soon.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
I can tell you we feel the urgency to have them.
The season's approaching and.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
We have ample time, so those two things kind of
don't jive. He said three things in our last sentence.
I feel the urgency to have them. The season is approaching,
and we have ample time. Only one of those is true?
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Which one?
Speaker 2 (03:34):
The season is approaching, approaching ample time each week two
of the preseason. In less than a month, we will
be playing live Fire QB is hot football game.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
QB's Live. We will be playing loads will Bomb.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
We'll be sitting there on Thursday night listening to this
Unday Night football theme as we watch Sunday Night Full
on Thursday Night to open the season. Right, Harry Underwood,
whoever it is, been waiting a day for Sunday Night,
We're right there, We're right there, We're there.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
We do not have an ample time. The second one
keeping the Ben mouleth thing, non, Bertel.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
No.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
But the second one, how do you feel the urgency
to have him?
Speaker 2 (04:27):
If you don't have the deal done? You've been working
on this deal for so long. I can tell you
how to go very quickly, Brandon.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
We'd like to pay thirty five million dollars over the
next six over the next four years.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Then the deal will be done. Then the deal will
be done. I don't think it will be up. But
I'm just if you had urgency to have him, that
would be the deal, and the deal would be done.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Right.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
This jive's in the face of how the forty dollars
have handled this negotiation thus far. It's like, but he
what he.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Didn't come out and say is what Jerry Jones likely
would have said.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
You know, we'd love to have branded back at the
right number. Yeah, we'd love to have branded back at
the right number. And the reality of the situation is
we have Brandon potentially under contract for the next three
years because they haven't won contract this year, which is
fifth the ever his rookie option. Then they can franchise
them and then they can franchise him again.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
So we have branded for the next three years, which
would piss them off. So they're not gonna do But.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
I but if I'm the team, that's the position I
have to be holding. So it's just not true. Then
you don't have the urgency to have them. He'd like
to have them. I'd like a Ferrari. I'm not paying
for it.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Want to get me one. I'll figure I'll figure a
way to cover the insurance. You know, But that's you
know we have apple time.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
No you don't.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Yeah, the school year is starting and it's time to
put the kids in school. Who's teaching the math? We're
right around the corner here back. The school supplies are
up at your local target. You better go get you
a dope, pokt a pen.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
And teacher's asking for donations too.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
All right, this is where I kind of stand with
this because let me, this is why this deals really hard, Mari.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
You know me.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
I'm going right to the numbers. I'm looking right at
the numbers. The production is there. Brandon Ayuk is a
really good I don't think he's a great NFL receivers,
a very good NFL receiver. But I'm gonna lean back
on something that I think you asked me two weeks
ago that if we had to rank the players of
the San Francisco forty nine ers in importance as far
(06:33):
as the offense goes, number one would probably be Martin Weiss.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
I'd say Trent.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
Number two would be Martin Weiss Christian McCaffrey. Number three,
Martin Weiss.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Would be George Kittle.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
Okay, let's just pause right there, because we're already at
three guys. So we're already in three guys. George Kittle
top five tight end possibly right, you said, will you said,
Trent's probably the best tight ends, better than Jordan, I
got him, top three, him, Kelsey Andrews.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
I'll they right there.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
I would think Trent's probably the best left tackle in football.
I think Christian McCaffrey probably is the best, or no
worse than second best running back in football. So we're
already three players. Number four would be for you on
this team and this offense. Who wants them? A deebo okay,
I put yeah, all right, So now we're down to
you being the fifth most important component of this offense.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
His teammate Jennings makes more than him.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
And I have a feeling this deal is not being
done yet for two specific reasons. The number and guys
like Shannonhan McVeigh, McDaniel lefloor, these young wonder kid, wonder
guy type, you know, offensive mind guys. They they don't
(07:50):
think they could put anybody in these places. But when
you have the best running back in football, check the
best left tackle in football, check a top three tight
end check, and I would think a top ten receiver.
I think we want some of Debos at top ten,
he might make my top five or top six as
far as everything that he can do on the football field.
Check and then you go to Kyle Party. Excise me, Broxs,
(08:11):
give me Brock Party. You go to Brock Party, and
now you're like, ugh, man, we might could do without
you without paying you this money. So here's the number
debos at twenty eight, twenty three point eight. You're not
paying them more than debo. So that's why this thirty
five is out the window. You cannot pay Brandon and
Auk more than you are paying Who wants some of
Deebo Samuel that's number one. If you look at the
(08:34):
top ten guys, Justin Jefferson thirty five, AJ Brown thirty two,
Saint Brown thirty Tyreek Cheaterahs, Jaylen Waddle at thirty eight
and twenty thirty and twenty eight, respectively, Davonte Adams at
twenty eight, DJ Moore at twenty seven, Cooper Cup at
twenty six, Davonte at twenty five.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Mind you, DJ Moore just signed this exactly, so I'll
just stop there.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
You would be hard pressed to try to get me
to think that maybe he's better than DJ Moore. But
He's not better than any of those other receivers I
just named, So you can't pay him over thirty. The
thirty mark starts at Tyreek Hill, thirty enough for Tarreek's Tyreek,
Saint Brown, Brown, Jefferson. Those are the guys making thirty million.
So now we have to go back and look at
this number, and I'm thinking maybe twenty two, but then
(09:20):
twenty two. Martin puts him in like Michael Pittman, Junior,
Terry McLaurin, Calvin Riley, Stefan Diggs, which is no slight
to Stephan Diggs and t Higgins. Those guys are all
making twenty one and up. You would agree he probably
fits right there, correct, Yeah, But that's not the way
the money works exactly. So that's why this Dill's not
gonna get done, And if it does, they are going
(09:42):
to severely overpay him. That's the only way this Neill's
gonna get done, Martin, is they're gonna have to overpay him,
or they need.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
To just make this track.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
I thought the Pittsburgh stuff was gonna happen because it
really had some wills to it.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
And it made sense. It's like, if you're not gonna
pay him. Cool if you think genns can step right
in here, are you go off this team? Martin? How
many are their worst team because they don't have Brandon Nayuk? Hey?
What one or maybe two losses?
Speaker 4 (10:05):
I think they're still a thirteen twelve thirteen wins team
without Brandon Nayuk. I just think you cannot break the
bake on this type of deal for this guy when
I just he's the fifth option on your offense and
that that matters when it comes to paying these guys.
I think the number could be good at about twenty
two to twenty three, because anything over twenty three now
(10:25):
you're paying him more than you're paying Deebo Samuel. So
now you probably gotta redo Debo again. It can just
turn into a snowball. You feel me?
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Yeah, But I mean he's gonna get more than Debo. Wow,
that's crazy.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
That's crazy that Brandon Ayuk is gonna make more money
than Deebo Samuel. That's they're gonna have to redo Deebo.
They're gonna have to listen. Look what my look, what
my beloved Dolphins just did. We took Carajuata, we took
care of oos and then what happened. A week later,
they're like, all right, I'm sure tyre he didn't make it.
He didn't make a stink about it, but I guarantee
you his agent picked up the phones, like, all right, guys,
(10:58):
we can we can shift a little more money now.
You guys just freed up twenty six million in cap space.
Let's go ahead and get your let's go ahead and
get your seventeen hundred receiving yard receiver a little more
bratt And they did it.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
But they didn't have a choice.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
You had some Yeah, looking at it right now, I
think Brandon ik is eventually going to get a contract
upwards to twenty seven million dollars per year.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
It'll just be with a different team. I don't think
it'll be with the Services score forty.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Nine ers or I mean, I think the most likely
scenarios he plays this year on his rookie deal and
he becomes a franchise tag candidate next season, in which.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
He'll probably get. By that point.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
You know, it's an average salary of the top five, right,
so he probably sitting at a thirty two million dollars
per like for one year.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
He will not sit on He will not playing a franchise.
He won't.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
The forty nine ers would have to make the decision
not to franchise. It's not like he has really much
of a choice. No, No, he has a choice. Then
nowadays these players, he will trust me. He will kick
and screen, trade me, trade me, trade me, trade me,
trade me, trade He will not just go okay, I'll
take this one year with the franchise tag of thirty.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
That's also what he's done this offseason. Exactly two of
the preseason and he's still on one.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
But that's because he can see it coming. So you
get you got to start kicking and screaming. Now, if
I'm as agent, I'm telling them to do it. I'm
looking at both sides. If I'm as agent, I'm saying, look,
you don't.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
We don't want to.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
Get to next year where they're gonna franchise you. You're
not gonna like it. I'm not gonna like it. It's
not gonna help anybody, and it technically doesn't help them
because now you have a disgrunnle number one receiver or
number two receiver. However you want to look at their offense.
If I'm with you, I don't think the deal gets done. Here,
but twenty seven million dollars I like well, as I mentioned,
it puts you up there with guys like more, but
(12:39):
you any any more than that, and you're paying him
more than you're paying a Cooper Cup, Davonte Smith and
even DK Metcalvere. Like I said, I like twenty two million.
And if you don't want that, you know, then he's not.
If you're John, he's making three million a year right now,
He's twenty six years old.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Here John Lynch offering him twenty two million dollars. Congratulations,
you've lost the bread that you sweepstakes.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
Of course, But once again, I don't think they're in
dire need or entire want.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
To keep him.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
I truly feel like they believe Jenning's can plug in
and do what he does at a cheaper value. And
if we got to pay him down the line, gens
that is, we'll deal with that when we get there.
But we are not about to drop thirty million plus
on Brandon Ayu. That's not gonna happen. There's no way
that happens. And if if it comes out, I'm wrong,
(13:32):
I'm wrong, but I'm not gonna agree what we're gonna happens.
And say, you guys, all right, watch watch what happens
in the next few years. Watch what happens with this
salary cap, Watch what happens with this.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
Team that you gave Brandon Ayu thirty million dollars.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
But you know there is a cautionary tale elsewhere in
the NFC what happens when you don't drop big bread
on a wide receiver. You just might be in the
position that this NFC want to be contender finds themselves
saying we'll get to that coming up in just a moment.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
Timing is every, especially in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Martin Weiss, VJ Husky filling in for Jason Smith and
Mike Harmon coming to you and I from the taire
iraq dot com studios. Yes, sir, I say that timing
is everything. VJ was up because in the most recent
edition of the Dallas Cowboys v.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
Cede Lamb court proceedings, as we have seen two sides
negotiating on either way at ZD saying I want more
than Dallas saying I'd rather not.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Calvin Watkins, who was as plugged into the Dallas Cowboys
as lights are plugged into the socket, says, well, the
Cowboys offered the receiver slightly under thirty three million per season.
A person with knowledge of the talks told the Dallas
Morning News and in turn Calvin Watkins.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Which just goes to show you if you had offered
CD Lamb. This contry on Day three of the NFL postseason.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Guess what CD Lamb would have been at the twenty
five training camp practices that the Dallas Cowboys have had
out here in southern California. Because there's no way you're
telling me that CD doesn't sign for thirty three million dollars.
This would have been before I'm under Old Saint Brown.
This would have been before Justin Jefferson, and it would
(16:26):
have been before Jayalen Wallers. It would have made him
at the time the highest, if not second highest page
wide receiver by average annual value. But it would have
been sort of like the same way that at a
certain point in time in the NFL Daniel Jones was
the highest paid quarterback by average annual value forty.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
We are going to get this deal done.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
As soon as we can because we know everybody else
is about to overcharge when it comes to this. Now
you're looking at wide receivers like Justin Jefferson making thirty
five million dollars a year, highest paid non quarterback in
the NFL, and Ceedee Lamb ships back and says, oh,
I'm sorry, he didn't even lead the league of targets
he didn't lead the league of catches, miss seven games?
Speaker 3 (17:08):
Do you know who did? Made me?
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Man, this is why I say you gotta pay pay early.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
Don't wait when when the irons hot, strike man, Stop
waiting for the iron to get even hotter, Stop waiting
for it to scold and be like lava, molten lava
from a volcano.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
Stop once you once it's too hot to touch. Pay him?
Speaker 4 (17:31):
And you're right. So at thirty three? Now did this
did he put a date on? When did they offer him?
Is that any of that into reports or any articles
or this guy that's.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
Connected tight to the Cowboys?
Speaker 4 (17:41):
They said before the Cowboys departed for Saturday's preseason game
against the Vegas Rats, the two sides met Thursday over
the phone in an attempt to finalize a deal.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
So this was Thursday.
Speaker 4 (17:53):
Okay, all right, now I feel a little different. So
they offered him thirty three? So does this mean CD
said no? I'm assuming right, Well he did. What we
know for sure is that he didn't say yet. He
didn't say yes. Okay, he didn't say yes. Let's say,
well signed it and that's where he'd be.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Now, all right? Cool? So you know these contracts go.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
So there's got to be something in there as far
as deferred guarantee money or guarantee money up front or
signing bonus money, things of that nature, because this puts
you at number two. Now, I know Dan Well, CD
Lamb does not think he deserves to be the highest
paid a non quarterback in the NFL. Seed he had
a great year last year. I mean, he shut me
up and he made He's in my top ten.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Now, the argument that he would have is I led
this team in receptions and targets by a large, large margin,
a team that had the one of the highest scoring
margins in the NFL, and I was the best receiver
by a mile. And we don't have the running backs
like it was like with there was the Cowboys had
some grand shakes of a running game as they were
(18:52):
leading league of scoring.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
Is he better than Justin Jefferson. I'm telling you what
CD camp Lambs A team is arguing back to Jerry
jon This is probably what Jerry Jones and his team
is thinking to we make this guy. Listen, this would
be an astronomical mistake if you make ceed Lamb Martin.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
This smells. This has the sense and smell of Zeke
to me, it really does. Zeke had two good years
and they were.
Speaker 4 (19:22):
Four point two or four point six and then four
point four to four point two something like that. But
over four yards of carry is good upper echelon running
back yards. Now, if you can get the five yards
of carry, your lead, your lead, if you can get
the five yard cards as a National Football League running back.
I say that to say it just this feels like
you make this guy that high paying, ah man it
(19:44):
and there's no return on it. You don't get the
proper return on this. This thing could go south real fast.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Now.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
I love this fact that you got the article, you
got to report thirty three million, Like you said, it
ain't signed and it has even been agreed to. But CD,
that makes you the second highest paid receiver in football, Bro,
You're not justin Jefferson. AJ Brown is second. I wouldn't
have him better than AJ Brown, Saint Brown is third.
I wouldn't have him better than Brown. I wouldn't have
him better than Tyreek Hill. And it didn't be an
(20:15):
argument with him and Jaylen Wattle. And that's coming from
a diehard Dolphin fan. There's a little argument there. Jayen
Wall's at twenty eight point five, So you're you're five million,
You've clear five million from him. I just whoa, this
is good, this is juicy, But I tell you this
smells like Zeke. This is the same type of deal
Zeke went down to Cabo. They gave Zeke his money
first before they gave it to Dak, before they gave
it to Zach Martin. And how did that work out, Jerry?
(20:39):
How did that work out? So maybe Jerry's learning his
lesson right here, but not if you offering CD thirty three, Mili,
I think a fair number for CD is twenty.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
Eight get out of year. Yeah, no, I'm looking at
the list.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
There's no way Venham's Waddle, reg Brown, Brown, Jefferson.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
That you get CD land for less than thirty million.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
It just can't have Okay, all right, that's fine, all right,
that's fine because at thirty, because Tyreek's the last thirty,
there's four guys that make thirty. Tyreek is Tyreek, Brown, Brown, Jefferson.
So if you want to fit him right there at
thirty with Tyreek and those guys, Okay, finally, got no
problem with it. Thirty three, I believe is a high offer,
and anything over thirty five more than Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
I think they would regret doing that deal. Do you
think it's true the same way that we kind of
agree in the.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
Quarterback market and quarterback realm that it is Patrick Mahomes
a wide gap and then whoever you have at number two?
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Do you agree that that is the.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
Same way in the receiver market, whereas Justin Jefferson then
a wide gap.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
Well, I got two guys. For me, it's two guys,
and then it's a wide gap. To me, it's Justine
Jefferson in his Cheetah, and then it's.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
A hye gap Tyreek.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
You know what, I could perennially underestimate him in my
wide receiver rankings.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
That is not a knock to his game.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
It's just when I think of the other wide receivers
and the way that they just move differently to me,
like Tyreek Hill is not your.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
Prototypical That's why he's so good.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
But you know what I'm saying, for whatever I'm thinking
of the receiver types, Tyreek Hill never crosses my mind.
But there's no doubt that he is a dynamic and
incredible offensive weapon. A guy who is like perennially deserving
to be in the MVP level team conversation, right, there's
(22:27):
no doubt about it.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
But I think it's like wide receivers.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
I just think, like Justin Jefferson making that catch against Buffalo,
there's no way Tyreek Hill's making that catch.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
No, there's no way Tree's making that catch. But like the.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
Speaky part is, he doesn't have the best hands, Tyreek,
he catches it in his body, he drops.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
He cost us the Eagles game. He cost us the
Eagles game and I'm sorry. And the Tennessee Titan game
he dropped.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
Those are two games I'm with you on that, But
that still is what makes him the most dangerous game
breaking in people exactly. He may not make the catch
that Justin Jefferson made that you just reference, But Justin
Jefferson does not take the top off of every defense
he sees play after play after play after play the
(23:10):
way Tyreek Hill does.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
Nobody does.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
That's why I got those two guys there, and then
it falls off from everybody else there with me. I
just I just think that Dallas would be you paid
the receiver first like he did Zeke. I just think
that would be a big mistake either, do Micah or
do our due Dak. And here's the quick thing about Dak, Say,
Dak walks. So you give it, Say you give CD
thirty three to thirty four million, but Dak, you don't
(23:34):
take care of Dak leads as a free agent. Now
you've got to find a quarterback now to throw CD
the ball. You're a receiver that you're paying thirty something
million too because you didn't take care of your quarterback first,
have fun.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
You're gonna have to.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Find a quarterback regardless whether they pay him thirty three
million dollars or nine, unless you're willing to pay Dak
Prescott sixty million dollars. Speaking of quarterbacks, we'll pour one
out for a fallen soldier in the quarterback ranks.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Coming up in just a moment, a show favorite bist
to dust. But first, Steve the Seger, you're up.
Speaker 7 (24:08):
Can I point out that the LA Olympics in twenty
twenty eight will have flag football as one of the sports,
just as baseball and softball are returning to the games.
So can I be maybe the hundredth person? I haven't
heard one hundred other people, but I'm sure a hundred
people at least have thought of this to say out loud,
can the US team have Tyreek Hill and Patrick Mahomes please?
Speaker 3 (24:29):
I mean, wow, fifty are game five on five? No
offensive lineing ugly? It'll be ugly, Steve, it'd be ugly
or beautiful like the ninety two basketball. Yeah, exactly. The
final score is what I'm saying. It'll just be disgusting.
It better be better than that.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
You twenty one to whatever US was playing, like the
Philippines or something.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
Did you see this as like an exhibition football flag football? Yeah?
And they were getting smoked. Yeah, themoke. It's going to
like the three on three basket exactly.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
Don't pull out, don't come out here with like Sam
Bradford a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
Send the best and the bride.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
This is our sport.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
Send the best and the Bridecho Sinkoy wide receiver.
Speaker 7 (25:13):
Those guys could probably catch a long pass. Still, the
tempted to say that no NFL exhibition games tonight. Most
teams will play tomorrow this Sunday night on Fox TV.
New Orleans at San Francisco Saints running back Alvin Kamara
is still out with back tightness. New Orleans wide receiver
Rashid Shaheed mispracticed today with a foot injury. Raiders wide
receiver DeVante Adams did not practice today and he would
(25:35):
prefer to not play at all in the preseason. The
Broncos will start rookie quarterback Bo Nicks this Sunday against
the Packers. Those teams held a joint practice today. The
Bengals gave kicker Evan McPherson a three year extension. It
reportedly includes ten million dollars in new money next year.
Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow won't play tomorrow, but he says
he's ready for Week one, which is next month after
(25:57):
last year's wrist injury. The Vikings signed coterback Matt corral
and plays first round quarterback JJ McCarthy officially on injured reserve.
He's out for the year after this week's knee surgery.
In the WNBA, there were three games. Caitlin Clark twenty
nine points and tennis sists as Indiana defeated Phoenix ninety
eight eighty nine at Atlanta on a last second jumper.
(26:18):
Atlanta edged Seattle eighty three eighty one. Connecticut now nineteen
and six after winning one oh nine ninety one at Dallas,
which is six and twenty. US women's soccers back to
number one in the new FIFA World rankings. England is
number two, Spain is down to number three. France after
the recent Olympic Games in Paris, fell to number ten.
(26:38):
Live golf return today. Taylor Gooch is tied for the
lead at the Greenbrier in West Virginia. Brooks Keepka and
John ramerre each one back. Bubba Watson is three overpar,
tied for last place, but that's good for like fifty
thousand dollars. In Live Hideki Matsuyama is tied for the
lead at the PGA's Playoffs in Memphis. Scottie Scheffler's two
shots back. Ry McElroy shot seventy three Today's won over
(26:59):
tied for fife fifty eighth place. Jordan Speith shot a
second round seventy five. He's three overpar, and the late
game in MLB action is done. In Anaheim, the Angels
held on three to two over Atlanta, although Anthony Rendona,
the Halo's left with a bruised elbow. Colorado beat San
Diego seven to three, and the save to the Dodgers
(27:19):
tonight to Michael Kopek in a seven to six win
at Saint Louis. Cardinals have lost five straight. Copek was
on the worst team the White Sox acquired in trade recently,
and as a Dodger, He's now faced twenty seven batters
and allowed one hit and one walk. And for Copek,
his fastball was at one hundred and two miles per
hour tonight. Kevin Kiermier now with la a home run
(27:41):
four RBIs in this win. Dodger pitcher Tyler glassnow is
placed on the injured list with elbow ten to nightis,
so it's looking like Bobby Miller, pitcher could be starting tomorrow.
The Dodger lead in the NS three games over Arizona
and San Diego, who each lost. Pirates won to end
a ten game losing streak. Philly two over Washington with
a run bottom of the ninth. Tampa Bay's win was
(28:04):
with a run bottom of the ninth, five to four
over Arizona. Boston twelve ten winners at Baltimore, and the
Yankees won three to nothing at Detroit Aaron Judge his
forty fourth home run of the season. Yankees now a
game up on the O's in the Al East. Wins
for Milwaukee and Minnesota back to you thanks.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Steve Martin Wis's VJA Husky filling in for Jason Smith
and his best friend Mike Harmon. Here Oh, on Fox
Sports Radio, VJA just said something during the commer not
commercial breakthrough Steve's update that.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
Almost made me.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
It made my stomach turn, honestly, honestly, honestly, I was. Honestly,
I kind of offended. Like you know, I know they
were trying. It's funny, you know, trying to not be
offended by every little thing.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
Oh, I was a little offended. That was a little offended.
We'll go on then tell him you like this new
kickoff rule? I love it. I'm in love with this.
Are you kidding me? Your problem is sent the Colossie.
That's the new kickoff. That's what it is to me.
Speaker 8 (29:02):
First of all, that's disgusting. That's number one. That's disgusting
all both you. You you are so you act like
you like to have fun and try new stuff. If
every time something fun and new is introduced you.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Act like this, well, first of all, I do not
think that I act like I like to try new stuff.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
I like for the old stuff.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
Nah, you try, I've been trying for months to find
the same pair of pants I'm wearing and for a
different color.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
He likes the old stone cold. Yeah, anything I like,
and I stick with his pants.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
But Martin will watch any new show, any new movie.
Mart'll go sit at premieres and screenings and stuff. Mark
He'll try a bunch of new stuff. Guys don't listen
to this. And when something new is brought to us
like this in the NFL, how could you not like this?
This is game this first of all, the smart teams
that get this down are gonna break. We're gonna see
(29:51):
way more kick returns for touchdowns than we've seen in
a long time. And that's excitement to the game. Number two,
why not when they backed up the extra point? People
ain't like, Yeah, setting the ball to two and then
letting the kicker kick from the seven or the to
come on, man, back it up. I think the extra
point should actually be like a thirty five to forty
yard field goal. You're a professional NFL kicker. It's like
(30:14):
free throws. I don't have no respect for any shooter
or guarding the NBA who can't shoot eighty two percent
or more from the free throw line.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
Shooting guard The worst shooting is in the title of
what you do for a living.
Speaker 4 (30:27):
So if you're standing on the line and no one
can guard you, and no one could do anything, and
when the ref gives you the ball, you have ten
seconds to make a free shot, you can't make that
eighty percent of the time. You're a kicker, a professional kicker,
the kicks from the thirty.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
You can't make a forty yard field goal.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
We watched kickers miss forty one forty two yard field
goals indoors, outdoors with no weather.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
This is great, guys, this new kickoff rules.
Speaker 4 (30:52):
Any of that has to do with the kickoff because
it's because when all those changes started, man, people complained
about it, and I thought, it make the game better,
and it's better for the game and your kickoff return nowadays.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Man, excuse you.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
Before this rule was put in, we didn't get any
kick returns.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
Guys, No, we use it. It all types of kick returns.
Then they changed the rule. This was gonna be great.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Then they changed the rules about ten years ago, and
then everybody start kicking out the back of the end
zone rather than dealing with it now. But it doesn't
address the number one problem that occurred after they changed
the kickoff rule. Initially, the number one problem with the
kicks right here, right now, the way that the ball
is given to the other team after its scores, is
(31:37):
the lack of the ability to execute on side kicks.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
If you're down by.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
Ten points with three minutes left in the fourth quarter
and U scor touchdown, the only chance that you have
and winning the game is if you have three timeouts.
You can stop the clock on all three plays and
you force a three and out. If you, for whatever
you want, to challenge the player in the middle of
the second quarter our our second.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
Half round the rights to say too bad, You're out
of luck.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
You better not lose it, because you're going to lose
that time out and completely lose.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
The opportunity to win the game.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
You have no opportunity now, as you spoke, to recover
an onside kick, which, while in action, is not one
of the most exciting players in football.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Right You'd rather see a hail Mary.
Speaker 4 (32:18):
You'd rather see a seventy five yard run by Derrick
Hemery as he throws down several defenders off his stiff arm.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
But when you consider the.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
Implication of what an onside kick can bring it can
be just as exciting. Like our free throws are not
exciting in and of themselves, however, but it is fifteen
seconds left in the game, and our five seconds left
in the game. It is a tie game, and you
see a guy who is a sixty five or sent
free throw shoot into the line. Everybody zooms up a
(32:47):
little bit, is like, now what you're gonna do. Now
what you're gonna do. Now you're gonna make them both
big follows gonna show right. So to me, the onside kick,
I'm not saying it should be something that happens with
all time regularity. It should be about twenty percent of
the time, twenty to twenty five percent of the time.
If you execute it on side kick perfectly, you should
be able to recover the ball. Now the surprise element.
Speaker 4 (33:10):
Sean Payton won a damn Super Bowl doing surprise on sidekicks,
which is now just removed from the game. I'm with
you on on side kick. I hate the new rules.
But once again, but with these new rules, they didn't
there's no opportunity to even a draft.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
I know.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
But we also have to go to the reason why
they changed the rules. Guys, Remember there was a flux year.
There was an influx of years in a row Man
where players safety and concussions was a big thing and
they had to cut down on a lot of the head.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
On collisions and contacts.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
In the old school way of on side kicks is
I can load up this side of the field and
I can run nine guys straight into the other nine
guys in a ten yard space, and you hope that
you hope that the kick goes you know, one two
kick and then the three and then the three. You know,
the kickoff is like that now because you can't move
(34:04):
until the guy touches the ball, but it's.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
Still nine guys running into each other.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
The old, the old way of the on side kick
is as soon as the kicker kicked the ball and
you had guys jumping and guys going down. Okay, so
old school outside kick, you're signed the guy. So if
I'm lining up and I'm gonna sign from Patrick, all right,
I don't care about the ball.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
That's not my responsibility.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
My responsibility is to run directly as fast as I
can and try to clean Patrick out, not block you.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
It's between that I'm about.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
I'm about let's now, no, no, no, I'm about to
explain it because then right now you are trying to
block the guy you're trying to there's a difference in
trying to block a guy and just trying to run
through a clean a guy out so somebody else came up.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
Block is a pancake, which is when you're putting somebody
on the rask. Yeah, is what you were trying to do.
That's it's the same thing.
Speaker 3 (35:03):
No, it's not. No, it's not.
Speaker 4 (35:04):
No, it's not that's in close quarters. We are like
the same ten years. No, no, it's the same ten
years pancake block, Martin. Is your yard off the your
yard from the guy when you guys collapse, I mean
when you guys collipse.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
But it's say, it's the same ten yards from where
the off side kicks lined up to where now you're
just ten yards in a different spot of the field,
but it's the same ten yards.
Speaker 4 (35:23):
Go watch these two lines in these kickoffs, Go watch
how they clash, and then go you to old all
side kickoffs home.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
Have to go on.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Because you can't find any relevant examples outside of when
the Falcon difference against the Dallas Cowboys have a successful
onside kick in the last three and a half years,
like if they completely.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
Legislated out of the game. That's why this rule is
a bunch of cracks. No also to missing no fun here.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
I also like this rule too because the creases that
the returners can take I believe we're going to be
a little wider.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
And as a defender, like as.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
A kick cover guy, you can't do go and touch
that you can't ten yards.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
You gotta kind of avoid that guy.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
You can't even go like get blocked because you're so
enclosed quarters. And because the creases are going to be wider.
You mark my words. At the end of the year,
Steve's our great numbers got here. I guarantee you the
percentage of kick returnment touchdowns will go up this year.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
And that's what we want.
Speaker 4 (36:18):
We want the possibility on side kick.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
Really yes, I want more defense. I want the possibility
of onside kick. I want the possiblity. I'm defensive minded. Baby.
Speaker 4 (36:31):
Come on, I think that you know the on side
kick again, it's the the avenue to come back in
the game. Silly me, I thought that comebacks were cool. Now,
hold on, you can still onside kick. You just have
to do it in the fourth quarter. Correct, Yeah, you
st to do it in the fourth quarter. It's it's
you have to let the coach and you have to nothing.
Retch know you're gonna do an onside kick?
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Right?
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Which is which?
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Oh excuse me, sir, Like imagine if when Floyd Mayweather
hit Canelo Alvarez.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
In the face, fit to check with her. Hey, it's okay.
If I swing my right fist, will stop it.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
By right fist, you already know what's coming away is
set up now anyway, Mario, nobody's ever surprised unless this.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
Needs talked about.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
Two very notable exam the last to the last thirty
five years and in and also Bill Caro, I give
you another Bill Cower against I think it was the
Cowboys Super Bowl Bill.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
Cower against the Cowboys. Cowboys won the game.
Speaker 4 (37:18):
But Bill Coward did that he pulled off an on
side kick coming out of the second half. Oh no,
actually actually nil O'donnald went down and they scored, and
then he came out and did all the side kick.
I get you, brother, that that's a good example. But
that's two that we're talking about. In the last thirty
five years. There are you knowing the all tize samples
you have happened, and the legislated completely out of the game.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
And that's why this.
Speaker 4 (37:41):
Rule is a load of crap because it did not
solve the biggest problems that the kickoff rule initially had.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
It's just it's just flat.
Speaker 4 (37:49):
If Steve get here, it's what you do. It's a
favorite team. We'll come back to this list. I just
wanted to I don't have the number. I would love
to see the the success rate of success.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
The success rate with so great in spring football that
they changed it back to.
Speaker 4 (38:02):
The like the eighties to the nineties to the two thousands,
and we can get that later in the show.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
I would love to see what I do. Is I
just I like this. I think we're gonna see a
lot more kick off the trash.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Honestly, it's just, quite honestly, the NFL doing one more
job of let's fix something that is not broken, and
let's go ahead and break it even worse. It's like, oh,
you know what, car accidents are killing people all over
the place. Let's just ride bikes down the freeway.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
There we go. That's the NFL would be coming up next.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
Aaron Rodgers got a very interesting gift or received an
interesting gift.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
What happened on there? But what's the weirdest gift that
you've ever gotten? Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (38:35):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
Martin Weis's VJ Husky Coach Husky to you, filling in
for Jason Smith and Mike Harmon on this Saturday morning.
Speaker 4 (38:56):
So it's actually Friday night, Saturday. Yeah, it's I know,
I know, man, it feels weird. Well, it's Saturday morning
and the vast sorry of the country.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
Now that's what you remember about.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
Yeah, I didn't just automatically think that it's now the morning, Okay,
you know, No, I just I just think it's you know,
you national show.
Speaker 9 (39:19):
How dare you cater to the East Coast?
Speaker 3 (39:21):
I mean, I didn't make the rules.
Speaker 9 (39:23):
I don't like the rules, but it's just.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
Everywhere else, you know, generally abided by Eastern Standard time.
Speaker 9 (39:30):
Friday night, So.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
Twelve fifty two back East where I'm from, that's morning
right now, you.
Speaker 5 (39:34):
Guys still night time until I sleep and wake up.
It's the same day.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
I mean, I generally understand your sentiment here, but it's
now Saturday, August seventeen in New York City, Miami, Florida, Charlotte,
North Carolina, Dover, Delaware.
Speaker 4 (39:52):
That's where it is Saturday, Saturday, and knows and people
are in nightclubs, and not one of them is saying, oh,
good morning, can I buy your drink?
Speaker 9 (40:00):
I'm walking out with the sun. Good night either and
they say see you later, good night.
Speaker 4 (40:04):
But if you ask a girlfriend, hey, you're having a
good time tonight, you don't go. If you're in the
club right now in New York twelve fifty three, right,
you don't go, hey, are you're having a good time
this morning?
Speaker 3 (40:12):
I can't believe this is what I'm spending my time
doing right now. You started it.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
I mean, I just correctly identified what time it was
in over fifty percent of the United States.
Speaker 9 (40:20):
You're better than that, Martin.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
I guess you know what.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
You're right got you guys make this out like I said,
happy Wednesday afternoon.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
No, you just said Saturday morning, Martin. I'm with you.
It's like a fever dream right now. Oh god, it
stops sucking up, he does, right it's not sucking up
of him being genuine.
Speaker 9 (40:40):
Just for that, I'm taking him off your guys' show.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
Wait a minute, sign the papers.
Speaker 2 (40:48):
And it's funny that we're having this conversation because the
initial topic of was supposed to be Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
So Aaron Rodger will be the type of person would
have this type of debate. You're right, you know, you're found.
You know, the day starts at night.
Speaker 4 (41:00):
The next day, you know, it's part of the darkness
of the night and it goes.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
To the day.
Speaker 5 (41:04):
You know, I think I have an issue because of
this whole time thing like daylight saving time.
Speaker 9 (41:09):
I'm tired of it. I'm good save the time.
Speaker 3 (41:12):
But you've been in California your whole life.
Speaker 4 (41:14):
Right, I'm tired of it. But you've lived in California
whole life. That's part of the reason you never had
to deal with actual saving of daylight.
Speaker 5 (41:21):
Well, I have a trouble saving money. I don't need
time to Okay, I just do one thing. You guys
have no idea how irritated you make it.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
I mean, one of us. Apparently only one person wanted
to talk about Aaron Rodgers right here. You much rather
debate freaking time zones. I tell you, I can always
tell get.
Speaker 2 (41:42):
Over you know what those times have a comment when
my sports talk gets delayed generally is the coming back
for another go round?
Speaker 3 (41:49):
I don't know what time is it.
Speaker 9 (41:51):
Well, good morning,
