(00:50):
Just because we'll get to the big quarterback story in
a second. Yeah, yeah, hot take. A few minutes ago,
we talked about the Damn Yankees High Enough video, one
of one of the top five best music videos of
all time. I'm gonna go carry out. I mean, first
of all, supergroup Jack Blades. If I could have anybody's
voice in the world and be Jack Blade, Oh my god,
(01:12):
but the music video, and if I could hit like anybody,
it would have been like Benny Blade, Sure Benny.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
But sure, yeah, okay, all right, very good, all right,
VeryE okay good. I like that.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
And if I could see any movie again, I would
see Blade. Kind I kind of lose right there. Although
Tracy Lord's is featured in the first fifteen minutes of Blade.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Yeah, it's been a minutes.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
She brings the guy to the vampire party and somehow
he survives, Like sorry spoiler for Blade, but like you know,
she brings him to the party. They're dancing, it's like
a rave kind of scene, and all of a sudden, oh,
vampires are here, and I think he survives, Like, Oh,
didn't you bring in here so the vampires could?
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Could you get their blood? Like, isn't that why you
brought him here? Like do you want to get her
on the show to talk about that? The hell?
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Hey, Tracy, Yes, isn't it You've had a really long
career with a lot of things on it, But I
want to about Blade.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
I think it would be a nice departure from what
where those conversations.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
You can get Wesley Snipes on he could talk about Blade,
why he almost hit me in a car once.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Wesley Snunt did he really? Were you trying to stalk
him for an autograph?
Speaker 1 (02:13):
We lived in We lived in Marina del Rey and
he lived there, but like we lived in an apartment,
he lived in one of the big she Shey houses. Right,
because this is Wesley Snipes hay, this is Rising Sun
Major League a night before and so we're out before
I'm going to Namibia and you're never gonna see me again.
And we were throwing a football outside our apartment one day.
(02:35):
My wife and I a couple of friends were hanging
out and one of my friends says, go, I'll throw,
So I kind of go along, and I'm running. I'm
looking for the ball and and I go and I
put out my hand to get it, and I see out
of the corner car is coming like right at me.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
And it's not a busy street.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
It's just one of those streets where it's like oh oka,
you know, it's kind of a sidesheet. But still he's coming.
And I stop and I'm going for the ball. Oh
I can get the ball. And get the ball, I'm like,
oh no, wait to stop. And I stopped and the
guy stops his car and I don't catch the ball,
and and I go and I hit the car.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
No, no, no, the ball bounced.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
It was a Nerf ball anyway, so it was it
wasn't so and it bounces the way and I'm like,
I would have got it if not for oh, hi,
Wesley Snipes. And he kind of stops. He kind of
gives me a wave like he almost ran into my car.
I'm like, hey, how you doing?
Speaker 3 (03:17):
And I get him a wave. He gives me a wave.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
I keep him a wave again, and he gives me
another wave and he and he and he drives by me,
and I yelled, my wife.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
That's Wesley Snipes. That's Wesley Snipes.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
So who ran faster? You and your real speed or him?
Speaker 1 (03:32):
In this slow mail should I was trying to get
that ball. I was trying to get that ball. Yeah,
when he comes out of bed and he you know.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Yeah, but I'm so slow that they put it in
slow motion. I kind of had to for the effect.
Stole all those bases, put the gloves up every time.
It's literally the greatest montage is going.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
We are getting sets outmost hit a guy in a car?
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Did you hit him? Wesley?
Speaker 5 (03:58):
No?
Speaker 1 (03:58):
He kind of ran into me. Is that what happened?
Yeah's exactly what happened. I was chasing a football. The
ball was I was led a little bit too much.
I mean, I try to you know, not enough air
under the ball, and I was trying to get it
and he turned and yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Just and then I got hit and he said, where'd
that truck come?
Speaker 1 (04:15):
And I go, if you could hit like that major League,
you wouldn't had to run for second base on a bunt.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Oh man, my mid section, I'm sewing. You say, we
tie it all together.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
We got Blade and we got the Mad Movie with
Nick Age, so it all comes together.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
So as we get set for the final week of
preseason football, we get the news today that Russell Wilson
is going to play this week. How about that Steelers
are playing the Lions? And this is why I love
Russell Wilson.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
Think Dan Campbell sends thousds. We're blitzing from everywhere.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Nobody makes me laugh more than Russell Wilson Because Russell Wilson,
I don't know how much tethered reality he is.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
We've kind of asked that question, why why I don't
mean nano bubbles and no No, I mean like when
it comes to your football life.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Like I think if you ask him, Hey, Russell, where
are you in your NFL career? I'm about midway through.
I'm gonna played time about forty five, forty six. I
got something. Oh yeah, I'm gonna when when? Really we
know why he's playing this week because hey, to hitch
you between the eyes with something. This is Russell Wilson's
last chance to win the starting quarterback job before he
doesn't start in the NFL. Ever, again, does it Missouri
(05:31):
to show me? This is the show me stage? This
is what you show me game. There will be TJ
a lot of rolling rocks towards him this week.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Uh, now, I'm gonna enjoy the game with the rolling rock.
There you go.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
The offense is abysmal. Mike Tomlin has said we do
too much JV stuff, and you know he is fuming.
Hasn't been able to build a good offense for ten years.
Uh he needs something to happen. We told you that
Justin Fields is just more dynamic. He can make more
plays than Russell Wilson. At this point, Russell Wilson's kind
of a plotter. They don't have the same skill set
(06:06):
they did when Russell Wilson was ten years younger. But
the guy gets sacked now a lot, Like Justin Fields
gets sacked but he's holding onto the ball. Russell Wilson
gets sacked because he thinks I can still escape from
the pressure and he can't.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Right, that's the difference.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
And Justin Fields can still make plays, he can still
turn that offense into a dynamic offense. He can have
design runs. There's more he can do. This is Russell
Wilson's last chance to win the job or he's going
to be a backup now for the rest of his career. Like,
this is the stakes for Russell Wilson going into this game.
I see why he is playing again, stakes. This is
(06:43):
why I listened. The movie was great till Stevendorf showed up.
So this is why Russell Wilson is playing because it's something. Well,
why is Russell Wilson playing in Week three preseason? Why
is he doing this? And it's because it's his last
chance and if he doesn't play well, they don't put
points on the board. Guess what it's gonna be. Justin
Field's Week one. We told you a couple of nights
ago Hey, he's gonna win this job. Justin Field's gonna
(07:06):
win this and I said, initially week five, he's gonna
win it by but it could be week one of
the regular season. Because Russell Wilson has not been good.
They're not just gonna hand him the job after having
a bad preseason when Justin Fields has made mistakes, but
he has looked a little bit better and again a
little bit tiny more dynamic, not crazy better. Because he
was crazy better, it wouldn't even be a thing. But
(07:26):
this is Wilson's last chance. You got to show that
you can move the offense. And this is why I
love I laugh at Russell Wilson because he seems to
live in a different reality where if I know that
I'm playing in this game, I have to know it's
because I could be losing my grip on being a
QB one for the last time in the NFL. But
you hear Russell Wilson talk about it, and it's basically, yeah,
(07:49):
we got some few things to iron out. We got
to make sure we're on the same page. Here's Russell
Wilson from today when it was announced he's going to
play this week against the Lions. Let's hear Russell Wilson.
This is where we played Russell Wilson.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Yeah, we're playing.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
Yeah, we're all playing. I'm I'm excited to get back
on the field. You know. Last week was great to
be out there for the first time, you know, putting
the pads on and everything else, and and and you know,
obviously we didn't get to win and everything else. But
I think the big thing for us is just you know,
executing and us making our plays and doing our thing.
Speaker 6 (08:26):
Yeah, I think the most important thing for us.
Speaker 5 (08:27):
To accomplish is just play efficient football, you know, move
the ballup and down the field.
Speaker 6 (08:31):
Obviously, we want to celebrate.
Speaker 5 (08:32):
In the end zone. That would be fun. We need
to get make sure that happens, and that's the standard
football we want to be able to play.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Yeah, it was good to get the pads on for
the first I'm like, we're still working out the kings
like it's May and it's mini camp. Yeah, everything is
still going. You know, we want to be able to
celebrate in the end zone. That's the most But we
just kind of show that we can move the football
a little bit.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Like he thinks, it's been nice to win and all
that stuff. He thinks.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
He thinks, this is like we we're not playing a
game for seven months. This is dude, this is the
last time you're gonna get a chance to show you
can lead this team before week one of the regular season.
You gotta have a sense of urgency.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Man. I don't know what color of the sky is
in your world, but this is it.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
If you have a bad game and Justin fields plays
and he moves the team a little bit. He's the
quarterback man and you're not. And he and Wilson's gonna
walk around after going. I did not see that coming.
I did not see that coming. I can't believe that.
That's amazing. I didn't see it come out. Part of
it is the never let him see you sweat. So
it's the just steady as she goes. And outside of
(09:33):
the one interview he did when he was talking about
finally doing the James Harden and I gotta get out
of here kind of thing in Seattle, has he ever
said anything really interesting? I mean, not weird, but like
to where it wasn't just on script.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
No, I mean he's the definition of you know, here's
the guy out of the factory. You know, factory delivered
open the box quarterback, giving you all the quarterback answers
Like I used to do training camp tours.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
I don't wanted to talk to the quarterbacks because they
were boring as hell.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
They were all robotic answers, which is why it's fun
when now you got guys like Brady and the Mannings
and they're actually allowed to be themselves and they're allowing
themselves to be real. Although Peyton did have that idiot
kicker comment all those years ago, but otherwise you're gonna
get robotic whatever vanilla answers, and Russell's always been that guy.
(10:29):
So the fact that he said all these things not surprised.
Like you read between it though, is that he did
miss a lot of times with the injury sustained based
on pushing a.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
Sled, which is just stope for the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
Yeah, right in the end, your offensive line's pushing the
line or you're doing some variation of the tush push,
and it's gonna be on the folks to drive you
forward from behind.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
All of that stuff.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
But it's his opportunity to actually get some meaningful reps, right,
Knock the russ off. All of those cliches that we
use and to go back to where Tomlin said the
race was at the beginning, which was you're in the
pole position. All right, here you go, don't throw up
on yourself and lose the job. But he can't say that, goes, oh,
(11:16):
I see it. Justin's been playing really well and they're
about to depose me. Now he's not gonna say it, like,
you know what, my grip on reality and this starting
job are both tenuous, So this is no.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
I can't say that. But I listened to him tell
He's like, yeah, we're all good.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Everybody's on the same page, like like we're a great
team that is just gonna win the super Bowl because
and oh, we got a couple of things to bang out.
And and just to hear that from him when you know,
Mike Tomlin has been telling you too much JV stuff, man,
And you know what, Mike Tomlin's one of those guys
where you walk into his off and you go, man,
it's like twenty degrees hotter in here, because he's just
(11:52):
mad about how bad the offense is, like gegging and
I'm looking at film and I'm looking at tape and
I'm just mad and I'm sweating and I'm not happy.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
What are you in my office for?
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Like you could see Tomlin is saying, we gotta get
it going. There's too much JV stuff.
Speaker 5 (12:06):
This.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
When Justin Fields had his first game, his first taste
as a quarterback with the Steelers, it was, hey, he
hurt himself tonight, hurt himself with the fumbles. There's no
way we saw Justin do a lot of good things.
We saw everything moves faster. Now you don't have four
weeks in the preseason. You have time for mistakes. This
is this is this is a time now in the
NFL where it's you gotta get going and get going now.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
And Russell Wilson still still talks like.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Yeah, you know, we got plenty of time. We got
months like you don't have. You're not gonna be the quarterback.
It's all like you're getting drafted. You had a quarterback
for four years before they decide they want to move
on from you. Well, we don't know if he's any good.
We drafted the guy four years ago. No, this is it,
like this is it Saturday. This game is his final
dress rehearsal to be a number one quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
And he and I don't.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
I don't know that he sees it that way, and
I don't know that these guys that sense of urgency.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
The question is is this the way he's prepared the
whole time? And I would say from the outward what we've.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Heard, hit a blocking sled. Come on, man, he hit
a blocking sledge.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
I'm saying in terms of his mental again, yeah, hit
a block.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
But they made him do the drill. That was part.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
They had the quarterback to do that. Now he didn't.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
He got hurt justin fields, didn't age. Hell, all of
that stuff, but why the quarterback drill? It's a problem
for me. So I've been saying it all along out
of fear and a reprisal that he gets, you know,
the extended run on the quarterback slot. But yeah, for
(13:33):
Russell Wilson, I think you have to go. And if
that's been your approach where everything is, everything's fine, it's
raining like hell on you, Russell, Nah Skuy's nice and
blue or he starts singing the sun will come out tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
I don't know, I really I don't understand.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
I don't understand it, but it's it's the most fun
I reference going to training camp. So the trope was
always the most fun because Tomlin's hand was in everything.
Most coaches found one place like you'd go to a
bunch of cities and you'd see the teams. Some would
be up in the you know, the perch and they'd
be watching from above. Some would just go with if
they were a defensive coach, they'd be hanging out, you know,
(14:12):
with the linebackers. No, Tomlin went from station to station,
so he was witnessing every day what was going on,
and guess what. He had a very blunt critique. If
you were struggling or if you thought you were dogging it,
he let you know, no uncertain terms, to the point of,
I'm gonna call your grandmother. You want me to call
your grandmother and tell and tell her what I saw today?
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Russ, this is it. I've said justin field, De's be
the guy.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
But I feel better that I've done my job telling
you that you got to get going now if you're
gonna win this job.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
So there we go.
Speaker 6 (14:45):
See.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Are you feeling better that there is a help A
little bit less focused and moving in a straight forward
direction than your jets.
Speaker 3 (14:53):

Com studios. All the lead singer does is put his
arms up in the air and just that's all he does.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
That's okay, it's no high enough, My damn yank you.
We've been run around the hall.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
Singing, Yeah, I can get up into those high notes again.
I'm feeling pretty good.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
Let's go. You want a good version of this? You
ready for this?
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Here's a good version of this and Mary mackin spend
the next few minutes finding it. Save Ferris a ska
band from the nineties. Yeah, did a version of this
and it's fantastic.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
How about that?
Speaker 1 (17:22):
I thought they were gonna be huge. They had a
great name, they had a couple of great songs.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
What was the other? They had another big hit? What
was that?
Speaker 6 (17:29):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (17:30):
Save Ferris was super spy. Bump bump bun. I'm bump bump.
Are you thinking a real big fish sell out with me?
Oh yeah, sell out. But he's gonna give me lots
of money and take them. Oh they do take on
me real big fish because we used that first before.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, here it is right here. Poor. No, No,
it's a female. Yeah. I don't know. I just thought
with that riff.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
I know it sounds like, yeah, did a little bit
different version.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
Does she walk around the video waving her hands too?
I don't know that they made a video for it.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
They didn't make a video for it, didn't.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Make a video.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Say first in a video, let's go I remember when
Scott was gonna be huge.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Oh, Scott was going to be huge.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
It was supposed to be huge.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
It's all a matter of where No doubt, no doubt, Look,
no Doubt is not a SKA band.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
They're a pop band.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
They're a pop band, I'll say that. But they have
a lot of Scott influence.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
They do have a But yes, Scott was supposed to
be the next big thing and it wasn't. Like the
two biggest SKA bands are Save Ferris and Real Big Fish,
and they had three songs between them because Scott.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Because Scott kind of went in magic it exists.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
Scott kind of went into swing like we didn't even
notice it and boom swing was here. Mary's Gonna take
you out, Like you're just missing Scott as a genre, Scott,
and you've reduced to two very short leve no two bands,
very short shelf like you Be forty. You Be forty
was not ska. You Be forty was alternative.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Dude head was just did that?
Speaker 2 (19:12):
They did that?
Speaker 6 (19:13):
Really?
Speaker 3 (19:13):
They did that really bad version of that song for Sliver.
It was an Elvis song. What they did.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
I'm going Oh my god, this is terrible. I feel
bad for Sharon Stone, for Bill Infel, for for everybody
in that movie.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
I can't help falling in love.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
Yees yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, where he's like up in
this register the whole time.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
Yes, same way. It was almost too high to actually
be heard on the radio.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Saints fan Brianna coming up with that very I was, actually,
you gotta listen to the whole show.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
You gotta listen to the whole podcast will be up
a little bit later on, so really, you get your
on really quick.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
I wanted to tell you this story before we get
to the the NFL, the new NFL trend of preseason
that is both entertaining yet absolutely maddening. So we talked
about Russell Wilson hitting the blocking sled right, which stupid,
like why are you having your quarterback at the blocking slid?
And it was just dumb and he was held back
because of it and his calf and who knows, maybe
he doesn't win the number one job with the Steelers.
(20:08):
You go back and go boy, that was dumb, and.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
We calf injuries lead potentially other things.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Right, So we were playing our first game of the
year sophomore year in high school, and the first part
it was.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
So we're playing our sorry freshman year, we're playing our
first game. Sorry freshmen were playing our first game, and
it was the only game we won all year. We
finished one and seven.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
We won. We finished.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
I had an interception in the game. Really, I was
so excited, man, Oh my god, would you jump around?
Speaker 5 (20:41):
No.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
I caught it and if I didn't slip coming down,
I would have had a pick six. But I slipped
coming down. I was like, oh man, but I didn't matter.
I had an interception. So my best friend was the quarterback.
He was he was, he was, he was really good.
And so we're beating them at halftime, like twenty to nothing.
So at this point, now he's putting, he's put backups
in the game, different things.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
And this is junior varsity.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
And my friend was a quarterback in when he played
in Pop Warner football. He was alive because he was
he was always bigger than everybody. So second half comes
and the coach puts him at guard and we're watching, going, wow,
Carrie's playing guard.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
Wow, look at that matter quarterback.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
And the coach is walking around and you know, the jay,
he's walking around und you know, you didn't know this,
but Chapman played guard in the boys league.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
Look how tough he is?
Speaker 1 (21:25):
Look is We're like, wow, we're watching him play guard,
going wow, look at this, And all of a sudden
we hear our varsity coach who came from the stands
and yells, what the hell are you doing?
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Take the quarterback out from playing right guard? What are
you doing? And he called him up, and then we wereize, oh, oh,
might have been.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
Now, he might have been tough getting muddied up in
the trenches. However, like, what the hell came on to
the sun and what are you doing? Why did you
plow it the quarterback playing right guard?
Speaker 3 (22:01):
For that's hilarious.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Every time I think of Russell Wilson, I think of
that start. I think of the coach walking up and down.
He was like, yeah, he played guard the boys league,
and he says, you learn a lot for him. Show
the coach came down, What the hell you get him
out of the game? Did he actually get a snap
in before?
Speaker 5 (22:23):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Yeah, no, he played like three or four snows.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
Because we're watching because because he was my best friend
and I played defense, he played offense, so you know,
when he come out of the game, I'm looking for
him on the side, don't seehim, like where is he?
And and know he's playing he's playing Garden like he's
playing guard. Wow, oh wow, okay, and strategy and what.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
The hell you doing?
Speaker 4 (22:41):
Get out of the game showing my verses. I was
showing my toughness. So look today are I'm fierce? So
today live and in living color. We had a lot
of big joint practices around the NFL, and one of
the big ones was the Jets and Giants.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
Hey, look, I don't put a lot of stock into it.
Joint practices are great. I love the fact that Jets
stomped all over the Giants. It's Aaron Rodgers and Garrett
Wilson I think had about one hundred and seven fantasy
points that I think he caught like eight seventy yard
touchdowns like that. It was a big day, but most
of the day the biggest thing. And look, it's a
big story in training camp. When you get great matchups,
(23:21):
you want to see and Elik Neighbors and Sauce Gardner
was a huge matchup coming in right, what was it
going to be like?
Speaker 3 (23:28):
The Giants? Elik neighbors and sauce gardener.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
And this is the trend that is both really fun
but it's also annoying. The biggest overreaction in you can
have in the preseason is watching backups dominate against other backups.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
Right.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
That used to be the whole big thing, like why
isn't So and so starting a quarterback? They came in
against the backups through for three hundred yards and four touchdowns?
What the hell is going? Ironber game where Matt Simms
was a backup quarterback, third string quarterback for the Jets.
This is when we're this is like we're in the mats.
This is where we were in the Gino Smith, Mark
Sanchez Era and Matt Simms came off the bench against
the Giants and he played like the last three quarters.
(24:06):
He threw for three hundred yards and three touchdowns. It
was start Matt Simms. You gotta start Matt Simms, Like,
oh my god.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
I got that.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
Used to be the whole big overreaction was when a
guy looks great against backups and puts up a bunch
of numbers. Boy, he's great, he should play a lot, right,
always the biggest overreaction.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
But now that doesn't happen anymore, or the.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
Wide receiver putting up big numbers or whatever. Right exactly,
quarterback gets more press. But certainly we've elevated from a fantasy.
It's like, well, you know what, this guy might get
get a run.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
But about five years ago things kind of changed because
many things happen. Teams started playing their stars less, teams
started playing their backups a little bit less. It was
third and fourth stringers and guys you really never heard
of who are out there. The games were treated as
necessary evils, and guys didn't play long enough to put
up big numbers. They just didn't. Quarterbacks played a quarter,
(24:53):
running backs played a quarter. You didn't play that long,
so that there's nothing to overreact to. But now that's
been replaced because all you need is one piece of
video or one play from a joint practice. And if
one guy looks good and one guy doesn't, that guy's
an all Pro and the other guy stinks. Beginning of
(25:14):
the seven on seven portion with the Jets and the
Giants state this is all over social media. Daniel Jones
was one for three. He threw the incomplete pass, threw
one it at somebody's feet, and then he completed a
pad this is seven on seven. He completed a pass
the Eleik Neighbors in the middle of the field where
a sauce gardener was covering him, and he stayed with
the middlefield and all that came. It was like wildfire
(25:37):
on social media there and not just my social media,
but everybody neighbors Sauce. Oh, Melik Neighbors just cooked sauce Gardener,
he just cooked him. Melik Neighbors is a stud and
I'm saying, wow, So one play in a seven on
seven drill that nobody has seen because they can get reports. Oh,
Eliek Neighbors just catch a pass across over the middle.
(25:57):
Sauce gardener was covering him. Nice little game for the giants.
Suddenly it's Molik Neighbors is an all pro and Sauce
Gardener is a guy who just plays video games and
wants to just hang out and not be good, not
work hard, Like that's the way it is. And you laugh,
and it's kind of funny because it's really funny to
think that after one play, but that's how people believe.
People have their opinions about Molik Neighbors and Sauce Gardener.
(26:20):
If that is video there that one play. Never mind
that the rest of practice Molike Neighbors caught one more
pass and sauce Gardner was on him for maybe I
think twenty five of the thirty snaps something like that.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
So it's not like Melik.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Neighbors went hey, he was covered by sauce Gardener on
twenty five snaps. He got eight catches for one hundred
and forty yards. Like this was a day where the
Jets were pretty dominant. In fact, sauce Gardener was waving
to the Giants walking off the field at the end, like, hey,
good game, guys, good game, because the Jets won pretty big.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
But just one one you need is one play.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
And that gives you your opinion of how good you
think a guy is, like like all the time, Molik
Neighbors is uncoverable. Okay, first of all, I know he's
not uncoverable because he played twelve plays in his first game.
He didn't catch any passes. Nobody's uncoverable because if they
were uncoverable, they would catch a pass on every play,
and they're not the best guys aren't. So it's it's
the blow up that people have just for one play
(27:10):
and if it was the other way, it would be
the same thing. Look at Sauce Gardner lockdown. Elak Neighbors
best cornerback in the game by far. Neighbors has a
lot to learn all by just seeing one play. Never
Mind that maybe a guy tripped, never mind that maybe
a guy was coming on the field late because he
got a water break or something.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
But one play in.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Shorts in a seven on seven and suddenly Elite Neighbors
is an all Pro widers.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
He is uncoverable.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
You know how many guys are uncoverable during the during spring,
during training camp, and then boy, they're coverable during the
regular season.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
I don't understand how that happens. Now.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
I don't think that from Elite Neighbors, because look, the
guy's got the pedigree, he's got the talent. But there's
many guys like that, whether it's Tank Dell or de
Mario Douglass or anybody. Oh, these guys are so good,
they're so good in the slot, they're uncoverable. Yeah, generally,
when you when the footballs fly for real, things even
out a little bit. But it doesn't matter because one play,
and that's everybody's opinion of Elite Neighbors and everybody's opinion
(28:05):
of Sauce Guarden, everybody's opinion of Garrett Wilson, whoever else
it is, whoever for your team. Just all you see
is one play. The guy could the elite neighbors could
have been locked up on the next nineteen plays and
not even close to a catch. But it doesn't matter
because the one play that people get to see is, oh,
he catches his pass on Sauce Gardener.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
Like that's it. No, that's all it takes to go viral.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
When you talk about TikTok x, Instagram, Facebook, whatever anybody's using, right,
it's that play that comes out and.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
You never get the retraction.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
Right, go back to what we just did with the Olympics,
go to the women's boxing arena. None of that goes
the genius to go back to the bottle.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
Now you got lawsuits, you got all sorts of stuff, right,
But no matter what you come back with facts and explanations,
the maya culp is that's buried in the back, right.
We just see it all the time. It's like you'd go.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
Through the Sun Times and you're like, all right, finished sports,
and now you're gonna look at classifies. Maybe there's a
garage sale you want to check out because they look
because they didn't advertise, maybe that they had some trading
cards or Star Wars toys or whatever the case was.
And but like right, there would be the retractions and
it would be in the middle of the paper, near
the car listings and the classifieds. Not hey, a one
(29:20):
block one. Oops, we got this wrong. You know that
guy's not a murderer. Oh, by the way, is not
the murderer? Like that would show up in the retractions.
Like people don't see that. They see the initial story.
How many times have players been accused of a million
different things coaches on down in the sporting universe and
(29:41):
then it comes out later it's a far more nuanced situation,
or there were no charges ended up being filed, but
you know what the stories that night, and so it
becomes hot take nonsense. In this case, it's wow, your
guy is getting cooked. Sauce has been overdone, it's over salted,
and now it's and he can't cover like he used.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
To, try not to crack under the stress. The Jets
are breaking down, the giants like fractions.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
They'll smack each other in the press, and we don't
print retractions. Time now to find out what's trending in
the wide world of sports. From Aaron Burr. Aaron Burr,
what do he got for us here? On Fox Sports Radio?
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Aaron Burr?
Speaker 3 (30:20):
Who's that? Wow?
Speaker 1 (30:22):
Aaron Burr really head coach of the Eagles in the nineties,
went to the Super Bowl coach McNabb.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
They lost the game. He threw up Aaron Burr was
the head coach.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Oh Andy Reid was No, No, that was Aaron Burr.
Andy Reid at that point was coaching the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
Are you drunk? Are you drunk? You don't know who bleeping?
Aaron Burr is one of the most famous people in
United States history. If nothing else the last decade, you
would have heard his name a lot.
Speaker 8 (30:47):
Really, you never heard Aaron Burr. No, Aaron Sorkin, But yeah, you.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Heard of Aaron Sorkin, but not Aaron Burr. Did you
go to school ever? I did. I graduated. I don't know.
How do you take Did you take American history?
Speaker 8 (31:03):
No? I took a health class where I learned certain things.
I'm not going to divulge on the radio.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
Burr was probably the worst vice president in our history
because he shot a guy Oh, by the way, they
made a whole musical about him.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
What was the name of the music? Oh, my god,
tell us what's trending. Just tell us what's trending.
Speaker 8 (31:20):
The rent is at the movie the pa.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
It's Rogers the musical, that's what it is. Oh okay,
Steve Rodgers made a musical about him.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Not famous erics, the Gentleman, the super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
They'll make a musical about him, playing when I Go
to the Happiest place on Earth. Any relation to Roy Rodgers?
Speaker 1 (31:39):
No, okay, good a quarterback Rogers coming from Green Bay.
Speaker 8 (31:45):
Oh my good. All right, So I'll do rapid fire here.
I'll do the two minute drill or the fast break offense.
Speaker 6 (31:51):
If you will.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
In these sports, are already already slow.
Speaker 8 (31:55):
Out of the gates start, yeah, yeah, according to the
making us.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
All feel helpless here on the show.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
You're making it slower.
Speaker 8 (32:06):
Yes, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
All ten scores you need to know. Score one. The
Mets beat them.
Speaker 8 (32:11):
Well, according this is going to be the non score.
According to New York Times, Iowa had football coach Kirk
Ferenz and his wide receiver coach John Budmar will be
suspended the first game of the season for recruiting Shenanigan's
recruiting riff Raff. They started flirting with quarterback Cade McNamara
in twenty twenty two. Before the transfer portal went live,
(32:34):
the source could not confidently say that if the penalty
comes from Iowa or the NCAA, yeah, let's go to
Major League Baseball. The final game to finish up on
this Wednesday night saw the Dodgers win eight to four
against the Mariners, pulling off a sweep of the MS
and the Dodgers not only are they continuing to win,
but their nemesis in the NL West, their division, the Padres,
(32:56):
ended up losing eleven to four at home by way
of a law to the Twins. Pots gave up seven
runs in the fourth inning. Also in the world of
Major League Baseball, the White Sox one six to two.
Who saw that coming against the Giants. The Diamondbacks went
ten to eight against the Marlins, and so the d
Backs and the Padres are tied for first in the
(33:18):
NL Wildcard picture Padres lost. We mentioned that the Yankees
won eight to one against the Guardians, Aaron Judge rocketing
two home runs. He's got forty seven on the season,
Phillies take out the Braves three to two. Do I
have to mention that Mets score. I guess I do
four to three over the Orioles and Jesse Winker. He
(33:41):
delivers a pinchint walk off home run at the bottom
of the ninth to secure it. And now the Mets
are just a game and a half out of that
third and final wildcard spot in the NL, which is
held by the Braves. And I'll mention one more thing, guys,
because I know my time is of the essence and
limited here. Joey Vado seventeen seasons with the Cincinnati Reds,
(34:01):
had over three hundred home runs. He has retired. He
made it known on his social media his Instagram, that
he is Dunzie. The forty year old was once the
NL MVP, A guy that I'm sure Mike and Jason
as I get it back to, at some point, was
a Mets killer.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
Joey Vado, Yeah, anytime Mets killers wind up leaving or
I'm not said, like when Adam Laarroach got traded too
the White Sox, I was like, yes, thank god he's
out of the National League East. When Chipper Jones retired,
I threw a party. Who came to the party or
Chipper Jones? Your mom came to the party.
Speaker 3 (34:39):
How about that? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (34:41):
That so come on, thank you.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
No, his mom and I go way back, Mary, I'll
explain it.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
Oh they do, they do, go way back.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
We do.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
We do The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon live
the Tireck dot Com Studios. Coming up next a story
about the twenty twenty eight Summer Olympics. Already nervous about
for one of Team USA's biggest squads. That's next, right here,
Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
True Story, I'm not lying. This is the ringtone to
my phone. Really yeah, yeah, you know I told you
we've been binging House a lot. Yeah, and like this
is House's ringtone for his team. Now you know how
much I like Bob, But I'm like, I would to
make that my ringtone. So this is my ringtone.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
And you know me, I celebrate Hugh Lourie's entire catalog.
You know, Hugh Laurie, British didn't know that shocker.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon Livethetirack dot Com studios. And I'm already
nervous about Team USA basketball for twenty twelve. Already already
I'm nervous. You're already turning the page for four years ago.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
You can't even get rid of this Mets season or
get Aaron Rodgers, and you're already looking ahead to twenty
twenty eight.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
After news today, I'm even more nervous. The pre Olympic
buzz about the United States and France. What did I say, Hey,
we better get France now because in four years when
Wemby is twenty four, forget it and we barely got
France now.
Speaker 4 (36:18):
And I mean, look, it's it's an historic thing where
you're saying you're nervous about the French.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
Yeah, Frenchman wind up winning this one, but now it
looks like, hey, they could come to American soil and
win the gold medal in basketball in Los.
Speaker 4 (36:34):
Angeles is talking about basketball, which otherwise you're really creating
a whole other international, which is it's.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
Absolutely unforgivable if we lose in basketball, especially if we
lose in the United States to the French, and when well,
really anybody but the French shore but the French and
ones who are gonna beat us because you know Wemby,
that's pretty good. And Mark Stein, NBA insider, longtime friend
of the show, he joined this every week to talk
NBA had the bit in his in his column this
(37:04):
last couple of days that Steve Kerr likely is done
coaching USA basketball.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
Yeah, he's gonna go into politics. And well he already talked,
he did the night night.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
You know he's bringing He's gonna bring Steph up soon
and can he bring Clay up?
Speaker 3 (37:17):
Or is still too soon for that? Is still too
soon for Clay? Right, might get a little Battle Royale
going on there.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
So he's going to step aside and likely one of
his assistants, toront Loo Eric Spolstro will take over a
team USA in twenty twenty eight. Now, when we were
going on, I told you Steve Kerr is the right
guy for this. He's built to win this gold medal.
He can handle all the difficulties going on. The players
who are upset about not playing the benchings, whether it's
Embiid or Jason Tatum, he's the guy and he got
(37:45):
us through it. It was awesome ego management. But I
am one hundred percent on board with him not coming back.
Why twenty twenty eight's a big thing. Nobody wants to
be on the team that loses. That's the first thing.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
They know.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
It's gonna be tougher. This will be the tough gold
medal we get. Yet what comes after the Avengers and
the biggest thing Avengers age of Ultron, So you have that. Secondly,
it's not going to be KD and Lebron and Steph
to the rescue anymore.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
They're too old.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
I can't do it for you. I'm too old. So
now you're looking at the next level of players, a
step up. No wait, so it's going to be more
difficult from there now through. On the top of it
that if Steve Kerr is the coach, are all these
guys coming back?
Speaker 3 (38:26):
Right?
Speaker 1 (38:26):
Is Embiid still gonna play with Jason Tatum at thirty
thirty one years old come back and play. Nobody wants
to be the DNP guy. And they saw what happened
and it was a big enough deal in France. Can
you imagine what it would be like in the United
States if some of these stars aren't playing. So now
you're worried about are we going to have the guys
the next time around?
Speaker 3 (38:45):
Because we can.
Speaker 1 (38:46):
We can't rely on the guys that have won the
last four gold medals for us. We have that, and
now we got to make sure that the best players
want to come and we're not showing up with be guys.
You know, we're not showing up in here. Dante DiVincenzo
starting at shooting guard, as much as I like him,
so Steve Kirk kind of almost had to step aside.
So whoever's coming and new all right, I'll give the
new coach a thing and I don't have to worry
(39:08):
about pre existing stuff with Steve Kurr.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
Is he gonna play me? Is he not?
Speaker 1 (39:11):
That Drama's not gonna be there? Lou or Spolser will
figure out a way to play everybody I can go.
This is ensuring that they have the best chance to
get the best players to come and play the Olympics
in twenty twenty.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
I think the big thing is the focus from Grand
Hill and whoever else is on that organizing committee to
figure out motivations.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
And how they're gonna run through it.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
Whatever promises get made, because right, there was a lot
of speculation early on in the exhibitions the five game
run up that there were promises made to MB and
that's why he was out there even though he wasn't
playing well, wasn't in cohesive with the offense, et cetera. So, yeah,
you've got to make those some of those promises, assurances
and il deals, whatever you need to do to get
(39:52):
folks on.
Speaker 1 (39:53):
More nil deals. Hey, shop, we'll get you more money.
It's the Olympics. Yeah, I know, what do you need?
Speaker 4 (39:59):
Or we or straight Adam Silver's got to be complicit
to this as well as several NBA teams. Maybe they
get a run up where they play together in the
season leading him to the Olympics. Hey where the top
three superstars? Hey, you know what we need the cohesiveness
that we did not exhibit in France. We can't let
that build up because too many narrow missus and we
didn't support our backers because we hardly ever covered the spread.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
We got a lot to make up to the gamblers
at the next Olympics, which we did not. You gotta
make sure the guys are gonna come play. That's the
best way to do it Twitter at How about a
fresco Mike at Swollen Dome Coming up next, my buddy
Ben Mallor.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
This is Jesse Winker on Fox Sports Radio metsio
