Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Hello, Welcome in side hour two the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. He said from the
ti rack dot Com studios tirac dot com, I'll help
you get there an unmatched election, fast free shipping, free
road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirack
dot com is the way tire buying should be. Well,
(00:49):
you look a little bit more on the endit We
got Jason Cole coming up in about twenty minutes to
talk a lot of NFL with us.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
He's just up. When I reached out Joem earlier, he
couldn't get He's like, what are we when, buddy.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
But before we get to I mean, this may be
the biggest birthday we've ever celebrated on the show. But
a little bit more in the conversation we're having a
few minutes ago about Look, I I get now that
in this age of the NFL where preseason games are
only for die hards, it's it's very much locally and
(01:25):
if I really want to see all the backups play
and guys who aren't gonna play, the more interesting things
are during the week when you have the joint practices,
when all the players play, because it's much more controlled.
Nobody hits the quarterbacks. It's it's it's you know, you
don't see you.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Still see the sideline and say please stop hurting your guys. Hey, hey,
let let let's stop that.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
So there's much more interest in that, like like today
for the Jets Giants ahead of the game Saturday, Like,
I want, how's Aaron Rodgers looking?
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Throw in the football? Right?
Speaker 1 (01:56):
How is Garrett Garrett Wilson looking and he's running by
every defense it's back the Giants. I think Garrett's at
about one hundred and fifteen Fantasy points today. So I
get that there's that interest level in that, But I
look at it and I go great, like, Okay, that's great,
it's awesome. But all of this goes out the window
I'm glad they're hooking up. I'm glad it's I'm glad
it's going well. And I liked that my team looks
(02:18):
good rather than looking bad. But in the end, it's like, okay,
it's it's still figuring stuff out in in August. When
you're talking about, hey, this guy getting on the same page.
There's no position battle to worry about. It's not like
Rogers is looking over his shoulder at somebody or Garrett
Wilson is. But when when you see just the one
(02:38):
video that gets put up on social media, Molik Neighbors
versus sauce Gardener, oh mo, Lak Neighbors caught it pass
that said Sauce Gardeners takes them like, like what the
hell man?
Speaker 3 (02:48):
They say it the other way too.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Sure if it was here's one play, because they put
a play out there that sauce Gardner locked up Molik Neighbors.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Great, okay, now would it would, but I really have
my antenna up.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
If man sauce Gardner covered Melik Neighbors today on thirty
four passes and Malik Neighbors caught nine for about one
hundred and twenty five yards and two touchdowns. Then I'd
be concerned a little bit and like, oh, okay, the
Milik Neighbors is that good? But the instant decision of
Malik Neighbors is uncoverable because I've seen him in seven
(03:20):
on sevens, right, Tank Dell is uncoverable. These guys are
good wide receivers. Nobody's uncomfortable.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Right if if it's a especially the young players or
the guy that's a reclamation project, it becomes how much
can we push them? I mean, think about Denver. Right now,
you announced bo Nicks as your starter. But how many
times over the last couple of weeks when Zach Wilson
had a good practice, not a great practice, but a
(03:47):
good practice, did you see little thought bubbles pop up
from the Denver Post and from other people covering them, going,
you know, he looked good today, he looked comfortable, he
went through his progression like you add all these little missives. Yeah,
it's practice, and they're working on something particular where maybe
there's just an obvious advantage in because that's what the
(04:08):
script is calling for in that moment, and you move on.
But wherever there's a chance to build someone up, like
we're just as quick to pull out the giant machete
and start cutting it down, man, like so much sugarcane
in the fields to go make our assorted pastries. Is
that we build guys up and the preseason is it
(04:31):
Milik Neighbors. He's the savior, right, everybody's already decided in
the Hard Knocks. They showed it even behind the scenes
the Giants.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
He's like the only guy like, okay, you're gonna save
the entire franchise, right, but legitimate, right, since we've dismissed
Daniel Jones, waste some money, like he's already in the
middle of the pack in terms of dollars per year
on his contract.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Just so folks are aware of how quickly this stuff changes.
He shouldn't be the highest paid guy. Wait five minutes,
he won't be. But Elk Neighbors, there's just so much
invested for people to have something to root because Sagwa
Barkley's gone. Everybody likes Saguon Barkley. Ain't up there sympathetic
character in the Hard Knocks offseason edition, Wandelle Robinson Fine, Hyatt, Fine,
(05:17):
Like you got guys that are okay, A couple of
other guys that have been there a minute but since
you've already dismissed your quarterback, he's not exciting. So Malik Neighbors,
you're the guy. You have to be the guy. So
anything he does that makes him look good and makes
the team look good for a moment, fans and pundits
are gonna cling to because otherwise it's boy, this is
(05:38):
gonna be a long year. Like the Jets, right, we've
go all the way down. Remember when the Tebow battle
all those years ago. I watched several of those practices
in person, him versus Sanchez. They were some of the
most miserable hours ever spent in my life. It was
hot and muggy and crowded and two guys that were
(05:59):
having great troubles completing forward pass. But to hear it
every day was, hey, Tebow made a great play. You
know when when they took the cones away and let
him scramble around for fifteen minutes and he spun around,
he finally just winged down.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
When did he make that play? All the cameras were
off and everybody was gone.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
You didn't see the great I didn't see anything, but
I don't think anybody was on the field. Now they're
on everybody was there on the field. Everybody saw it
was a great play. It's a great play.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
There's no video though, no video, sorry, but trust us
it happened.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
We had hours and hours of great because ESPN was
there with like nine cameras then as many cameras as
you do for a normal Monday night football shoot during that.
The point being this is not new, but in the
social media sphere it gets like it's that that's.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Your definitive opinion. Molik Neighbors is great, Sauce Gardener's overrated,
all of this stuff. Aaron Rodgers is washed or so
so is great. Garrett Wilson's great. Like that's how it
is like that, That's what all you see is one play.
All this guy he's he's cooking, Sauce Gardener, wait one
and in a seven on seven and and he caught
it over the middle.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
I'll I'll give you another example, just from from the Olympics. Right,
go back to before Steph Curry went insane in the
final minutes, hitting three porters from everywhere. He was not
having a good game, right, I don't care how many
times guys go and the announcers did this and they're
guilty of it. As much as I praised him. Uh,
(07:24):
they found excuses down the stress, like oh, they're trying
to do too much. It's like, no, he threw a
bad pass into the third third row. Okay, but Steph
was struggling, didn't find his shot, a couple of turnovers
and on Twitter, and I know Doug had to address
this on a show, like, in the moment, what do
you tweet? He's not playing very well. They need to
find an answer. And then five minutes later he hits
(07:46):
two three porters like, oh, you're an idiot, look at you? Like, no, no,
he was playing terribly and the offense wasn't moving at all.
And then he hits two threes that you want to
tell me, Oh, you're an idiot? See what that like? No,
oh that's not true. It's the in the moment, I
can tell you the reality. Wait a minute, it'll change,
(08:07):
just giving you the opposite side of that coin. You
you're a moron. Look what happened?
Speaker 1 (08:12):
The Jason Smithson with Mike Carmen Live from the Tirect
dot Com Suits one play on social media.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
This guy's great.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Uh, now we have to get to and I say,
the biggest birthday we've ever celebrated because I don't know
that we've ever talked about a birthday quite like this. Today,
Jean de Laura Schmidt, better known as Sister Jean from
Loyola Chicago, turned one hundred and five years old five
(08:40):
one oh five. We've nearly been talking about her for
a decade.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
All right, and she's crazy right.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
In her late nineties, and she still works five days
a week and works with the basketball playerm does stuff
five days a week, eats what she wants. She's been
doing this since, oh, since I was ninety eight. I
realized what are they gonna do?
Speaker 3 (08:58):
I eat whatever I want to eight one hundred and five,
still rolling, Sister Gene, I started doing that long before.
I'm probably not working out for me so well, I'm
gonna be like Nicholas Flamel. I'm gonna live to be
eight hundred years old because I've been eating this way
for a while. Nically done.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
I mean, you tell me seriously, I'm being serious here.
Is that there's people to aspire to be like and
have have lives and careers. You think about NFL stars
and NBA stars and MLB stars and people who play
who play fantastic and are big heroes and make big
plays and win championships and give back to the community
and do all that stuff. No, no, no, give me sister Jean.
One hundred and five, still still with it, working five.
(09:38):
I mean, I'm not working five days a week when
I'm hunting five.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
But just the fact that she can still work and
still eat.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Whatever she wants to like this is this is someone
at one hundred and five is still getting joy out
of life every single day.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
A year ago. I know. At one hundred and four,
I know, and they and they superimposed hovey Baya has
taken a wild swing. But I told People Magazine quote,
I sleep well and hopefully I pray well. So keep saying,
you know, Hogan's in the news for all the wrong reasons,
(10:14):
but she's aspiring to some of those same principles. But
working five days a week, counsel some folks watch your
beloved Cubs get ready for another Loola season, and that's
living the best life. What do you I didn't see
anything that spelled out what the meals were in terms
of eating what she liked. And she's in Chicago, but
I but I just saw no.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
I saw a picture of her from this week that
someone put on Twitter going, hey, this is me with
the birthday girl on Monday, and they're at lunch and
she's got just a regular plate of food. I could
was a potato salad. I'm truggling, but whatever it is.
It's like a regular lunch and she's in a restaurant
or cafeteria set. Yeah, sitting there hanging out eating, smiling
for the camera.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
That's amazing. Yeah, I mean, and we're doing this in
the you know, Western culture. I mean, obviously we we
hear the tales of well that guy lived to be
one hundred and eight, what did he do? He smoked
and drink. Yeah, he just kept going. It's either one
of two things.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
It's either all they had were rice every day for
my entire life. That's all I had was rice, or
it was a glass of brandy and a cigar every
single day. Like that's you know, Look, it's genetics, right,
It's all. It's always as people do. If you a
little bit of winning, the genetic is a huge, huge deal.
But just thinking, good thing about sister Jane being one
(11:28):
hundred and five years old, ready for this a month
after she was born, a month after she was born
the White Sox through the World Series.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
That happened a month after the White Sox through the
World's here, nobody cares about your batting average, Buck. I mean,
she was born the White Sox through the World Series.
That's that's d and five years. She might have been
old enough for the Joe Jackson barn stormings, Like is
that him she was? I mean, I mean, look, I
(12:04):
mean I have memories when I was like seven years old.
I think I think I have bits and pieces of
memories from very specific things like in kindergarten or first
grade or something like that, Like very just specific things
of kids I went to school with, or certain things
I still have. But I've got I've got a couple
of that. Yeah, I'm fifty three, but I still have
very few of those memories. But I have a couple
of those. Like sister Jean could say, oh yeah, I
(12:26):
remember Babe Ruth in nineteen I remember the twenty seven Yankees.
I read they were great. Everybody was it was it
was Ruth and Gary and it was amazing.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
All they do is at home runs every single day.
Like she would have memories of watching Babe Ruth play baseball.
That's something I mean, just think about that and still
again passages, working five days a week, eating what she
wants to, still doing interviews, talking to people and everything.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
I mean, it's that's that's an amazing You think we
got another fifty years in us here.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
I keep telling on your medicine. Don't have too many
bad habits, right, I'll tell you this, here's my medical living.
I'm not a doctor, but I'll give you this medically.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
But I'm gonna play one here on Fox Sports Radio
to a nationwide audience and a global audience on the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
I'm gonna quote season two of True Detective, which is
not quoted a lot.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
But I thought you were gonna say Caesar. I'm like, no,
let's go family Coba Evil Caesar King.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Uh, I'm gonna go season two of True Detectives. Not
not not Vince vaugh Honey, you're not that good an actor.
You leave Vince Vaughn alone.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
When when when.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Colin Farrell's getting he's not getting a check up, but
he's he's got something wrong with him. So he goes
to the doctor. Doctor looks at him and he's, you know,
he smokes and drinks and all this stuff and the
doctor says, look, you'd be okay. You can have a
bad habit or too, just don't have all of that.
Oh okay, that's I mean, that's right. It's bad habit
(14:03):
or too, just don't have all of them.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
So that's what I try.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Okay, if I eat a little too much, okay, that's
my thing. Right, everything else I try, Okay, I could
keep everything.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
But boy, I like to eat. I like food.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
I like to I like to I'm a foodie. I
like to eat stuff. I like to eat stuff in
large quantities. I'm not gonna have just three bites of pizza.
I want four slices.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Right.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
So okay, so that's my advice, right, but you tamp
down and everything else and then wait for medicine to
save you.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
That's what that is.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
That's kind of Homer Simpson ask I just sit back
and wait for medicine to save me. But you see
the advancements in medicine the last just in the last
ten fifteen years, and you're talking about someone's born in
nineteen nineteen May in the two one hundred and five,
like you think about where we're at every year, getting
bigger and bigger with Advancement'm like, okay, like, okay, we
gotta get going on a little bit because I'm fifty three,
you know, but I can't imagine where medicine's gonna be.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
In twenty twenty five year. I'm a little afraid of that.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
I listened to Josek and Saku, who said a couple
of years ago, I could give you stuff to put
in your body, and you'll live to be hundred and fifty.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
Years old or whatever. He got his green jacket.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
This past week he said that to Dan rather, I
could give you stuff and you'll live to be one
hundred and twenty five.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Okay. A picture of Dan Rader's response, all right.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Yeah, well, if that's proven, I'll get I'll take something
one hundred and twenty five.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
It means I'm gonna have to work a while longer
I got I've given that long. I'll have like seventy
more years for the Mets to win the World Series.
You think you're gonna get one a long time in
seventy years, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
We got two in the last sixty. We had two
in the last sixty, so I could get one in
the next About about in Super Bowl, I got one
in the last fifty five Yeah, get one more in
the next week.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
I gotta go fifty five more years the Jets to
win one more? Maybe who wow? Okay, I'll take the under.
See now, when you say it that way, I go wow.
The Jets have really stunk for a long time. One
in fifty I gonna go another fifty five years again,
one more.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
We'll be here to chronicle all the future.
Speaker 1 (16:00):

apart and just have my hands go forward like I'm
doing a wave. That it works. Sales go so well
with us. You're so welcome back. Yeah, thank you. Mary
Mac follow it up with the Twilight Singers version. I

I'm Team Jacob. He was at the Arare Night seven
(18:01):
in London. You know, dang, just really quick. You want
you want a good team Edward team Jacob story.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
So we went to go see one of them, the
second movie, so New Moon, and we're getting ready to
get in line, and uh uh, there's people. These girls
they're probably like twelve thirteen years old, and they they're
asking everybody team Edward, Team Jacob, like as you walking,
like just doing a fun thing. They go Team Edward,
of team Jacob, Team Edwerder, Team Jacob team and and
(18:26):
I go team James, you know, the bad guy from
the first one.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
And they looked at me, get out of here. That's
so mad at me, James, that's fantastic. They were like,
get out of what if I said team Alice. Oh,
Alice is so great. I could be friends with us
as Team Alice, Team Alice, Team Alice. Okay, and then
you opened up your shirt to reveal a James T shirt.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
This is how James gets in and kills you. WHOA
so well he didn't, I mean I was. They got
rid of him.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Spoiler Baseball. The Jason Smith.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
Show is Mike Carmon live from the Ti rag dot
com studios Time dot to welcome in a man Who's
going even I listen to this show and I know
they're crazy. I don't get what that was all about.
He is a longtime NFL insider. He is a Pro
Football Hall of Very Good voter, continuing to put very
good players in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He
is on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two. He is
(19:24):
also currently working on breaking down CD Lamb's contract to
get him into Cowboys camp. It's Jason Cole, Jake call,
what's happening?
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Man? I actually want to hear Brianna's take on which
team she is for, because for the first time in
the forty seven years that I've done this show, it's
a long time, it is I have heard a woman's
voice the part of this show. And I pollute that
you guys have finally opened yourselves up to more advanced
(19:54):
thinking which might make you famous. Ye I'm worthy of saying.
The Hall of Fame? What is that?
Speaker 5 (20:01):
Is that?
Speaker 4 (20:01):
The Hall of Fame? And radio? Is that that thing
in North Carolina or something like that? Is that was
that Salisbury North Carolina Broadcasters Hall of Fame thing?
Speaker 1 (20:10):
I don't know, but now I want to have a
Salisbury steak because yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
That's well, you're because you're all very good or.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Interview Sean Salisbury either one. Well, I mean, look he
asked for you want to jump in your take on
the CD lamp situation. Go, no, no, no, no, we
have we have more women should be hall of Fame.
You listen, we have two women running the shows. Now,
we got Brianna, we have Mary Max. So Mary you've
(20:38):
heard on the show before. She said some things. Usually
we have to dump it because you sometimes.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
Wow, this is no. You guys are not you are
not equal opportunity.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Of course we are.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
No, you're not.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
Okay, when Frostburg gets back, see if he ever calls
you again to come on the show. All right, so good,
Well you get one question for Brionna. Go ahead, Brionna
filling in here. Brianna, who was a success story here
at Fox Sports Radio, interned here six years ago. Lest
thought we had seen the last of her. Thought she
(21:14):
was gone, she had gone out. She worked in the
medical industry.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
A couple of times she would show up here and say, hey,
can you hold this in your in your in your
house met for like five days. I'll come pick it
up and I'll come back. Don't tell anybody anything. We
thought she was gone, and then she came back about
a year ago, and here she is now full fledged
member here of the staff. Six years she fought her
way back and now here she is now exactly.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
So Jason, Jason, mister mister Cole, mister Smith said, hey,
go ahead and ask her your question. Do you have
one question for Brionna? Go ahead?
Speaker 4 (21:54):
Which team? Which team?
Speaker 3 (21:56):
I'm a fan? Whod No?
Speaker 4 (22:00):
Not that football team the movie one. Weren't even listening. Okay,
there we.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
Go, Team Edward.
Speaker 6 (22:12):
I thought he was I thought he was talking about
like football and not not the movie.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
No, no, all right, So Mary Mack, your team Team Edward,
team Jacob. Do you know who they are?
Speaker 3 (22:21):
First of all.
Speaker 6 (22:22):
I've I watched Twilight, Okay, but I'm not gonna lie.
I wasn't really a big fan of it. Okay, so
you know, but you're nobody's starting.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
I was.
Speaker 6 (22:31):
I was a team Jacob girl for a lot though,
because one of my friends is actually cousins with Taylor Latner.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
Okay, I was. I was like really cool with her. Okay,
See I liked him because he's shorter than me. Yeah,
he's not a lot of guys that wasn't very tall. No,
all right, So so Mary mac is somehow.
Speaker 6 (22:49):
It's teams, but I don't know. Because Edward grew on
me during the last I think was it because his
skin was because his skin was so silvery and.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
One in part too.
Speaker 6 (23:00):
I had watched that and I was like, you know what,
I understand team So I don't really I don't really care.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
I don't know. I don't really care about vampire this stuff. Okay,
all right, And Brianna is Team Edward. I really thought
she was gonna go down and do a deep dive
of the Saints. We'll have to do that.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
Oh wait, I think she's actually saying Jason, she's actually
Team Edwards, Team herm Edwards. I think that's what she's saying.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Play well played, all.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Right, So there you go, as you're curiosity been scratched
with Team Edward, Team Jacob here with Twilight Talk. I okay,
I mean you come out here, you come out here
every week and you make you get make fun that
I say, you're a haul of very good voter.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
And this is the first five minutes of the interview.
And this is all. And this is the first five
minutes of the interview. And I don't know who's the
who's the Who's who's the guy in your dad?
Speaker 1 (23:58):
Bill Porter, Jim Porter, who's the It's gonna say, Cole
come on and you can't do interviews like this and
keep your vote?
Speaker 3 (24:03):
What the hell's going on here?
Speaker 4 (24:06):
Jim Porter? Hall of Fame?
Speaker 3 (24:07):
Move on.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
I've had enough. I've had enough. A right ask some
ask nine Jets question. Just do it?
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Just go ahead, just do it, Okay, Jets over under
thirteen wins this year? I'm taking over.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
Have they won any of the preseason.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
You if you asked them like it was about Lachlan
Report won have the over under at thirteen? What's take you?
We beat the crap out of the Giants today. We
won the last seal.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
We're fine if we if we said half of that
thirteen six and a half, I take the over.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
Oh stop, come on, man, come on, We're gonna roll
through everybody.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
We have a great defense as.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
Long as I will honestly say this, I like the Jets, Jenson.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Who in the Super Bowl Jets and who.
Speaker 4 (25:05):
Just bears. That's what we're going for. I watched you
guys have a fifth fight the week before.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Well, I'm already working to rent out the sphere, so
we could do that in front of a global should
be pretty easy to run out the sphere. You guys.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
You guys could be the warm fact. If I go
watch you two again, that'd be awesome.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
We'd be good.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
It would be good.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
Hopefully the sphere is still standing. But that's a whole
other thing. Hey, what'd you think of the too a
tongue of my low. I had a character going after
Brian Flores a bit here.
Speaker 4 (25:36):
It took him like how many years? Did it take
two three years for him to like comfortably like edge
up to this to the point where he would just
let it all hang out. I'm like, hey, he was honest.
He told the truth, but be like, dude, why didn't
(25:58):
Why did it take you so long? Why did it
take you so long to go after him? If you
were ever going to go after him, you either do
it right off the bat and you snarl at the
guy and say, let me show you you don't wait
all this time, and then kind of creep up on
it and creep up on it like, oh he was
mean to me, and he was mean to me. Oh
(26:18):
he was a real jackass, Like you didn't do it
that way, like say it from the top or don't.
So I kind of annoyed with Tua for taking so
long to do this. And the other side of it
is like Brian Flores is actually a pretty good coach.
During his time in Miami, he did not handle to
(26:39):
a well. He thought that this guy was going to
be like Tom Brady and that he could treat to
the way that Belichick treated Brady, and that was not
understanding the players involved, and you know who he was
working with. And that's short sided on Flora's this part.
(27:00):
It's been how many years it's over with? Move on?
You know that? And that's where I'm I kind of
look at to him and go, yeah, you told the truth.
But I don't find I don't find this to be
like some you know, great revelation at this point in time.
And I don't find it to be anything courageous, Like
(27:21):
you're not really standing up to anybody and drawing a
line in the stand, like let me show you. It's like, oh,
I had a good year. Let me tell you. You know,
now I can speak out. I mean, I don't know.
I'm uncomfortable with the whole time.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
Jason Cole with US Pro Football Hall of Fame voter,
longtime NFL. All right, so let me put you on
the spot with this one. You're uncomfortable with that? How
about this? After Saturday, the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh
Steelers for the opening game this season will.
Speaker 4 (27:52):
Be who to be announced like to be to be
traded for? Is that?
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Wow? Who are like going to trade for Kirk Cousins.
They're gonna put Pennis in Week two and trade for Cousins?
Speaker 4 (28:04):
Yeah, Like, hey, can we swing a deal now? It's
gonna be Russell Wilson. I mean, Tomlin's not Tomlin's not
trusting a playoff caliber season to Justin Fields. He's just
not doing that. A guy who needs too much work.
Who he knows the work that needs to be done
(28:27):
to make him a competent passer. It's not said Fields
can't get there. We've talked about Fields before, but he's
not there. He's regressed a lot. He regressed a lot
last season, and as bad as Wilson has been, like,
you know, Wilson can do it if you just protect them,
and you know you know this can't work. So I
(28:49):
think it's Russell Wilson. I still stand on Justin Fields
is going to start games. And probably if you said
over under a number of starts for Justin Fields and
up the number at four, I might still take the
over on that one. And not because of injury, but
because of inconsistent play from Russell Wilson.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two. That is
at Jason Cole sixty two. Deem Edward. Do you remember
who too played Edward?
Speaker 4 (29:24):
Do you remember HERM Edwards? HERM Edward played it? Team Edwards.
That's the team I'm about. Team Edward is Edwards, the
kind of classy guy who shows up and worked out
every morning at the combine so that we can talk
to him before we played our basketball games at the
Combine for years because because it.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
Was because it was Jacob that handed the ball off
to Larry Zanka and he fumbled and then Edwards ran
into the end.
Speaker 4 (29:51):
Zone for the off to to uh the Brandon Jacob.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
Look, as long as he does have to recruit anybody,
we'll be Okay, see you, buddy, We'll talk to you
next week, Jacob.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Here goes Jason Cole, What team Team Edward? Team Jacob,
I'm a Saints fan, who dad, No?
Speaker 3 (30:17):
But he said what team? He didn't, Yeah, but we
were all talking about the whole like I knew that.
I was keeping that in my head, like, okay, we're
talking about team Edward. Team, was talking about football team team.
I'm a Saints fan. You know what that gives? What
was the call that happened? The call for the I
(30:38):
think for the Mets. And he was like, stand up,
south side, stand up for the White That's exactly what
you just did. Stand up, south side.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Stand up.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
Golly gosh, you guys. I'm a Saints fan. I liked it.
It was just a matter of fact to who I am.
South side stand up.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
She was like money in Major League flyball, caught Saints
fan who that right now? Padres fan Brian Finley has
What's Trending in Sports, which includes the team that played
against his Padres today, because boy, they trended while the
Padres did not. Well you, you said, Monty, I thought
(31:21):
you were going to talk about the good, the Great
movie full Monty. So I thought, oh, you're talking about
money Kiffin. Oh we're gonna talk about Moneykiffin. Yeah, okay, yeah,
because I love and in money. Hall Okay, I'll give
you ten dollars for every bit of UCLA PARAPHERNIALA you
have in your backpack.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Well, my backpack is UCLA. We you just have to
give me the bag and we're done.
Speaker 7 (31:44):
Game one at Hawaii next weekend. Let's hope that the
Bruins don't do what Delaware State did and missed the flood.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
How about that? That's what a mess? Yeah, spread one
up to ten, ten and a half points. Well, I'll
tell you if they had showed Caitlin Clark and walk
into the uh gate, Delaware State would have had a
charter flight. Would I'm able to go? That works superimposed
like AI. It's Caitlin Clark wearing Delaware Saints fam who that? Well,
(32:14):
you know even if they had a Saint.
Speaker 7 (32:16):
I don't know if the Padres would have enough to
win today because they lost eleven to four to the Twin.
Seven runs were given up by the Padres in the
fourth inning, and the Pods are now tied for first.
They had a sole lead for first in the NL
wild card standings. Now they're tied for first with the
Diamondbacks after they won their third straight game, taking out
(32:36):
the Marlins ten to eight in comeback fashion. Also, the
White Sox, Like, I can't believe I'm reading this correct.
The White Sox won a game, and how did they
do it well? In large part they scored four runs
in the ninth. How about that, Mike, didn't you throw
out that stat a few weeks ago where most of
their runs were scored in like the first seven innings?
Speaker 3 (32:56):
Oh yeah, No, they've been awful after the sixth.
Speaker 7 (32:58):
Yeah, so I feel like that's the Those are the
only runs they've scored out for the sixth season.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Could be pretty close, Yeah, pretty close.
Speaker 7 (33:05):
Also dimensioned Red Sox over the Astros four to one.
We did see Jason Smith's Mets kling on to a
four to three win thanks to Jesse Winker with that
pinch hit walkoff Jack in the bottom of the ninth.
So if we look at how that affects the Mets,
they are now just a game and a half out
of that third and final wildcard spot, which is held
by the Braves. And speaking of those Braves and what
(33:29):
they did today, they may lost at home three to
two to the Phillies. Cardinals just won in ten against
the Brewers ten to six, two home runs for Aaron Judge.
That's forty six and forty seven on the season, as
the Yankees thrash the Guardians eight to one. With that
win for the Yanks, they are in first place in
the AL East and the Orioles move into first in
(33:51):
the AL wildcard race. Also wins for the Rockies along
with the Rangers, and yeah, the Red Sox we've talked
about them during the show, four to one winners over
the Astros and then finally guys. Quickly in the NFL
BO Nicks named the Broncos starting quarterback for week one.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
That next yow next, yo, next next, keep making headlines.
Speaker 7 (34:12):
The next, next, next, next, Okay, unbelievable, nexs yo unbelievable.
So yes, we do have a Nicks mentioned on the show,
and then lastly, Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson didn't do very
much at practice today because of what they're calling a
sore arm. His availability for Saturday's preseason game is is
all of a sudden up in the air. And Jason Mike,
(34:34):
I'm wondering if you know, playing all the video games
or that might actually be more Kyler Murray. But if
that caused the injury, I know Kyler does a lot
of video games. You guys probably you guys still have
Super Nintendo Super nes No.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
Yeah, no, I have a Wei okay, which I haven't
played in forever. You have a we was the two
thousand and seven. You have a Wei. Oh that's great. Yeah,
it probably was.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
Early.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
I haven't played it. I haven't played all the way.
All it's on at is tennis and rowing. That's my week.
We had a couple of those when the kids were younger.
It's like they don't play video games. They love wordle
and things like that. I have my Atari twenty six hundred.
I'm playing River Raid and Asteroids. Eventually. Look, i want
to play the new NCAA game. I want to get
(35:19):
a couple of the wrestling games. So long as the
Road Warriors are included. I mean, I'm in, but right
now life is a little too busy. I'll get back
to my video gaming another time. Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
Brian Friendly coming on next on the shows as Mike
Harmon looks to buy and in television somewhere off of
I Will.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Too, where you can hit the guy in the leg
with the football and its completion, a story.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
That already makes me nervous about one big sport in
the twenty twenty eight Olympics.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
That's next. Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
The Jason Smith Show with my friend Mike Harmon. Yeah,
live Fromthtirack dot Com studios. And I'm already nervous about
a big story from the twenty twenty eight Olympics after
what went down earlier today. Well, you're already nervous about
the basketball team. Oh and I'm even more nervous now.
(36:19):
Mark Stein, longtime NBA insider friend of the show, Mark
Stein joms all the time reporting that this is likely
going to be it for Steve Kerr coaching team USA Basketball,
that one of his assistants, possibly toront Lou maybe our
spolster will take over the team in twenty twenty eight
when they play in Los Angeles. And I said throughout
(36:41):
the entire Olympics, he should have this job for life,
because I get it. He takes an impossible situation and
we win the gold medal. Some guys are gonna be
unhappy with not playing, but he was able to get
by and he wins. He should have it forever. But
I understand and I agree with him stepping down.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Wait, thought you love the guy? Yes?
Speaker 7 (37:02):
I do.
Speaker 1 (37:02):
But already in the in the after burn of the
Olympics is do the guys want to come back and
play in twenty twenty year?
Speaker 3 (37:13):
Sure, that's a huge, underscored kind of background story.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
Do the stars want to come back? It's probably not
gonna be Steph and Lebron and I don't think Durant,
but you never know. But these are the guys that
carried us when it came down to it. So now
it's time for a new generation of talent. And from
Steve's Kirk perspective, it's okay.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
I won.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Boy, I really don't want to be the coach that
loses on US soil. And am I gonna have the
guys want to come play for me? Because as much
as you know players want to come play for Team USA,
they don't want to be the DNPS. Nobody wants to
be the Joel Embiid or the Jason Tatum of the Olympics,
especially here in the United States, where it's dude, I
(37:55):
can reach you at any time and you could be
on Twitter and logdown when it's nine hours eight hours ahead.
You can kind of be in a bubble in France,
but here it's oh, you're not playing, You're getting DNPS
as a coach not like you. And there was a
fair amount of drama coming off of this to where
the big thing for me is we need the best
players to come. We can't put out a B team
(38:15):
and win. France is coming, man, they were almost here, right,
France is coming. Wemby's gonna be twenty four, They're gonna
be fantastic, and we can't lose on our home soil.
And if Steve Kerr is the coach, is everybody gonna
come back or some guys you can go? Yeah, as
Jason Tatum was gonna be thirty at that point and
in the prime of his career, is still gonna say yeah,
I don't know, I'm not gonna do that again. Are
other players gonna say yeah, I'm not gonna do it.
(38:37):
So we're stuck with a B level team and suddenly
it's odum and iverson and we wind up losing Team
USA can't afford that. So as much as I wanted
Steve Kurra have the job at thought you sha it forever,
I agree with him stepping down to go to a
new coach because this is gonna open up the possibility
that all the players will come and play again. You're
playing for a different head coach. It's not Steve Kerr.
(38:58):
I'll come play and we're not risking hey having a
bunch of the B level superstars, which quite not is
not gonna get it done in FEEB, but not gonna
get done for the Gold. I mean, some of it
goes back to Steve Kerr and how he handled the
situation is as good as he is at handling egos.
It's also a structural thing, like we keep talking about
it from the men's soccer perspective, but same thing here.
(39:18):
Those guys don't work out together. So in twenty twenty seven,
everybody's got to team up. We got to get three
or four guys on the same roster so they get
that fluidity and continuity. So there's got to be an
Adam Silver lead invisible hand for the team composition itself,
so we're not still figuring each other out in a
gold medal game. Hey, I thought you were gonna I
thought you were Nah, you were going back. I thought
(39:41):
you were coming back to the three point line and
I threw it into the stands. But yeah, whether it's Spolshrow,
whether it's Tied Lu whoever, everybody's got to be on
the same page, like what are we doing, what are
the expectations? And you're doing a lot of cell jobs
because for all of these guys, we talk about brand building,
we talk about what it means. There's a lot of
money to be made, particularly state side, four years from now.
(40:03):
I've joked about the training guards and things they've done here,
uh this last round in France, but I mean there
was a lot of marketing potential, so they're not gonna
give that away. I think you'll still be able to
make the sale, but you're you're also still looking at
the three guys that carried you this time, probably ain't there.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
It's gonna be the hart you thought this was tough.
It's gonna be the hardest.
Speaker 1 (40:25):
It's gonna be the hardest Olympics ever. It's gonna send
the knicks. We're just gonna send the next because they're
gonna play great defense. Oh, I could get on board that.
It'll be the hardest.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
Takes over these stages, A.
Speaker 1 (40:36):
Coup, playing everybody forty minutes a night coming up next,
a story. I didn't have my Bengo card, but we're
gonna talk about it next.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
Fox
