In twenty minutes, Jason lockin forest us Buy NFL Insider,
it's got the latest on Could Dak Prescott actually get
paid by the Dallas Cowboys. Well, Drake may actually start
the seasons the Patriots quarterback. Are we getting back to
the age of the running back in the NFL?
Speaker 4 (01:06):
No, you're supposed to actually get back. Actually getting back
one of the worst words in the actually language, actually
banished it from my kids speaking.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
I like actually actually actually actually apparently like.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
They But a lot of times it's the hey, you
know what, this is actually pretty good or that was
actually pretty good, which meant you had terrible expectation. Did
you thought less of me or what I did or
not just me but whomever. Well, the situation actually has
has a usage. It lets you know that, Oh, I
really wasn't thinking big about this, and now I think
(01:42):
a little bit better of it. Oh, I actually think
that relationship could work out.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Wait. Wait, so you didn't think it worked out for.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
You proved it wrong. Maybe there's a chance I'll.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Use it in the sentence, Hey, I actually think Drake
may might not be bad for the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Wait so you thought he was gonna be bad before? Yes,
really bad?
Speaker 4 (01:59):
So the kind of like that, Well, that's just generally
your anti and that's actually your anti Patriots bias coming in.
Actually think Aaron.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Rodgers will stand the field for more than four plays,
So he didn't before.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
No, I'm always nervous about that.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
He's excited about coming back and trying to not be
carted off because he had a big statement related to
all that some of the motivation of coming back right.
Everybody wants to Lombardi. I'm paraphrasing here talking about Elway,
talking about Peyton Manning and whatever else, because nobody wants
to go out. You know, not that you get to
go out on your own terms often, but certainly you
(02:34):
don't want to be carted off as your final NFL act.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
You don't want that to be in Oh, how did
you leave the game on a stretcher? I literally had
nothing last and I don't really remember any of it.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
The game broke me.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
But let's get to what Let me just describe it
this way.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
If this happened in speaking of relationships, if this happened
in everyday situation, you would say this is a bad relationship.
You need to get out of it. But since it's
happening in the NFL, things are a little bit weirder.
This past weekend, Big we Look, two big quarterback derbies
were waiting to be settled our New England and the
Pittsburgh Steelers. Russell Wilson plays the first series for the
(03:20):
Steelers this weekend. Steelers get a touchdown, Wilson comes out
of the game Justin Fields goes on to play. He
plays fine, but Mike Tomlin wanted to explain just why
Russell Wilson was only in the game for a series
and then he came out, And when they might make
a decision on who the starting quarterback is going to be.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
We'll make a decision at the end of our work week.
This upcoming week, we got three days of Stealers versus
Steelers work, and why not do it? Then it kind of,
you know, minimizes the Steelers versus Steelers work. When we
started making decisions prior to the completion of that, We've
got ample time to prepare for Atlanta and make whatever
decisions or announcements regarding divisional labor or pecking orders and
(04:00):
so forth, and so we'll do it at the end
of the work.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
Week division of labor.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
I like this, you know, for the first time, I'm thinking,
is Mike Tomlin in the same category of Bill Belichick
where Belichick clearly was losing his fastball the last couple
of years. Because I watch how the Steelers went about
their business this past weekend with the quarterback position, and
I go, Mike Tomlin's losing his fastball. Because this is
(04:25):
a relationship with him and Russell Wilson. Where all they're
doing is defending and making excuses for Russell Wilson. And
I don't understand why. All right, you are so concerned
about the quarterback position after Russell Wilson and Justin Fields
had kind of underwhelmed. Hey, big deal for Russell Wilson.
He plays one series. He throws two passes right, first
(04:45):
pass minus six yards, second pass, nice game for twenty
six yards. Quderal Patterson thirty one yard touchdown run. Let's
take Russell Wilson out. Why are you taking him out?
Don't you need to see more? He didn't really do
a lot. He threw one pass on that drive and
Dellikey took you all all the way down and it
was a surgeon's precision. He was six out of seven
on the drive for sixty seven yards, threw a touchdown.
(05:05):
This was you scored a touchdown and he threw one
pass that was positive yardage.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
But you're taking him out.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
It's a big game.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Maybe he was already your starter.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
I'll tell you this a if you're doing that because
you want to give a quarterback confidence. That happens when
a guy is a rookie. Hey, let's get him out
of the game. He looks pretty good. We keep his
confidence up. You don't do that for Russell Wilson. But
if you need to do that for Russell Wilson, that
tells you he's not the guy. If Russell Wilson needs
just one quarter, this tell the excuses they want to
(05:38):
make because they feel for some reason they have to
give Russell Wilson this job and to not even play
him a little bit more. You're so worried. But you
saw one drive and now it's okay, that's it because
I get that. Oh, we're going to go three days
and Stealer on Steeler work. That's just stupid. Steeler on Steelers,
team on teamwork is just dumb. Right, You want to
see how does a guy do against another team? How
does he do when it's a different defense and different
(06:00):
things are happening. Really to sit here and say we'll
do it at the end of this week, Like what
does that? What does that even mean? It's not like, hey,
we're gonna take it all the way up to write
the night before the game and we're making our opponent
week one prepare for two quarterbacks? Like, what the hell
you took Russell Wilson out after one series? Why would
you take them out after one series if you weren't
gonna make them the starting quarterback, If you weren't going
(06:21):
to you're gonna play in one series and then make
Justin Fields a quarterback. Like, I don't know what the
Steelers are trying to accomplish. I only know that boy,
they have done all they could to kowtow and make
excuses for Russell Wilson. Where if this was a relationship
and you were telling me the relationship you were having
with somebody is like the Steelers with Wilson, I would say, dude,
all you're doing is making excuses for her. You're just
(06:41):
making excuses. There's a lot of this going on. She's washed,
she's you can't do anything anymore, right, you like the
nano bubbles.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
She's all about her image. She's not doing any of
these things.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
No, no, no, But I think she does this and
you don't know what she says to me when.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Nobody else is around. All these things.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
All right, I'm was like, dude, this is a bad relationship.
You have to get out. But these excuses that Tom
was making for Russell Wilson are the same things I'm like,
why are you making these excuses? I really, I wonder
is he losing his fastballs aad coach? Well, he does
high knees on a plane. I mean, come on, he's
putting in the extra work, the extra physicality. Remember those
(07:18):
weird videos of him in Sierra that he was poting out.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, sure it.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
Wasn't just nano bummers. No no, no, he got a
little uh got a little blue.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Yeah sure.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
With Russ every now and again.

Paully Foods Go here with Tony Foodsco. Yeah, as everybody knows,
we're the hosts of the award winning Polly and Tony
Foodsco Showy. But instead of us.
Speaker 6 (07:50):
Telling you how great we are, here's how Dan Patrick
described us when he came on our show.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
You don't up not promo. Yeah you wasn't talking about you.
You took those clips totally out of context.
Speaker 6 (08:05):
Oh yeah, Well, after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
You let me put this into context. Shut up.
Speaker 6 (08:12):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Paully Antoni Fusco show
on iHeartRadio.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Apple podcasts. Ohereba you get your podcasts.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
Yeah, but look, they don't have much investing in either
of these guys. Russell was there first, so I guess
first in the old accounting, first in, first out, as
in first out on the field, and then first out
of your lineup, and then him getting hurt with the
(08:39):
blocking sled certainly doesn't help. That might that might have
bought him a little more time as a starter, because
I mean, neither one of these guys is gonna be
world beating, like that's the big things.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
I don't you hurt me by letting hit that sled.
You're making me the quarterback. Okay, will you sign the release.
I'm gonna de Nile agreed. Then you're not gonna sue us,
right if we're making this to okay, great, we'll make
you the star. Quarterbacks are not supposed to be on
the sled anywhere. But either way, you're not heavily invested
in either, and you're not gonna be suddenly a top
(09:10):
ten scoring squad. This is a squad destined to be
in that bottom ten, as they've been for the last
five years. And that's where the Belichick and Tomlin comparisons
get into, if all right, once they're actually on the
field coaching them up and finding a way to win.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
They've been both pretty good at that. Obviously, Belichick at
the end not so much. But where you had were
some personnel issues, some choices. For Belichick, it was a
lot of the coaches and who he was gonna let
run the offense to where you're scratching your head, going,
what are we doing here? And with Mike Tomlin, the
offense no matter who you put in at coordinator since
(09:46):
Ben Roethlisberger's final run, it's been a disaster trying to
run that offense. And despite having a number of fantastic
playmakers in the backfield and wide receiver Deontay Johns.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Can't say you've always he's had talent, right, I.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Had farm George Pickens, like you've got guys.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
That boy, you've had it for ten years.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
You've had Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell and you segued
out of there. I mean, you've had the talent. You've
had the talent around him. And and it's it's just okay,
sit back for a second. You really think Russell Wilson's
that good? You really think Russell will I understand the whole. Hey,
we can't give it to somebody, but the way they've
bent over backwards for Russell Wilson and they've also done
(10:26):
the exact same. Hey, we keep Justin Fields at arm's length.
Russell Wilson is terrible when he has his debut a
week and it's all we got to clean some things up.
Justin Fields has a pretty good debut, but he fumbles twice.
Since the fumbles were so bad, he made sure to
say that by tunnelm made sure to put out there
about the fight, not that if tumbles weren't a big.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Deal, took away.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
Yeah, we made a big deal of it.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
It was a big It was a big deal about it.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
That stuff for you and I to make a big
deal of right, Hey, Justin Field's in his debut, or
he played pretty well, just you submarine all the good
you did by fumbling twice, but because Tomin surely jumped
on that. But for the rest of it, it was, oh, yeah,
I'm not gonna when Russ doesn't play while I'm not gonna.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
Do that, Like what is going?
Speaker 5 (11:07):
Like?
Speaker 3 (11:07):
What is he doing?
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Like, I mean, clearly coaches have their favorites, but boy,
he's really playing favorites and given everything he possibly can
to Russell Wilson, Like, is Russ really does he really
need that much positive reinforcement where I can't have any
sort of negativity or thinking my jobs. If that creeps in,
I'm just gonna fall into a ball and cry and
(11:30):
I'm gonna hit the floor with puddles of tears, I
mean or nanto bubbles, Like is that really how you
have to treat Russell Wilson?
Speaker 5 (11:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (11:37):
I look at the tom when clipped like we played,
and I just kind of chuckle for the idea that
with two veteran quarterbacks, Like if you were going cause
you mentioned this strategy of hey wait till game day
prep whatever, Like there's so much film on both of
these guys. You're not surprising anybody unless you're literally gonna
run the annexation of Puerto Rico or some random play
(12:00):
of a movie or TV show. There's nothing they're gonna
suddenly do that's gonna be that creative and out of sorts.
Remember Arthur Smith's also the guy that put b Jon
Robinson essentially in a box in numerous circumstances where maybe
you could have made a play. Now, he was still
an eleven hundred yard total yard guy, but we all
(12:20):
anticipated so much more. Oh sure, now, you look, you
have this offense and you've got some weapons. But for
the quarterback position, Mike Tomlin dragging it out Steeler on Steeler,
is that really gonna change what those guys are doing?
If Russell Wilson has the captain see er, then a
giant ass leg he's Superman for starter on his chest.
(12:42):
You're telling me that's changing your team, then you're telling
me there's a whole other problem with your locker room
right now, and it's much different than it's been. And look,
trading on a super Bowl from a long time ago.
Respect the coach, obviously, you know the win winning streak
that he has and the fact that he's not had
a losing season. I get that, But at some point
(13:04):
it's the what's next? Right? Is that good enough? If
that's good enough for you, then then great. But I
thought the whole objective was to get to the playoffs
and be a contender in the playoffs, not to just
make an appearance and do like a queen's way of
like Peyton Manning used to do in Week seventeen of
games before giving way to Jim Sorgie and his brother
(13:27):
would later do the same thing. But sure, hey, jimmy
guy had a hell of a run.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Jim Sorgie could have the man behind the Mannings that
is that's that's a guy that like, that is the
career you want. And of course the front page of
the book would be Peyton and Eli Manning on the
forefront and Sworgie is standing behind them.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
That's right, who's that guy back there?
Speaker 1 (13:44):
And he's just like waiting the man behind I can't
believe he hasn't found a place on the Manning cast.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Just like to getting ready to come on the screen.
If something happens like Eli gets a phone.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
Call the bathroom, Well sorry to Matt Damon, No, no,
he just have Sorgi ready.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
And sometimes he comes on the show and sometimes he doesn't.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
He just sits and eats a chip.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
Gotta go to the bathroom. Jim, can you come in
for all right?
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Up?
Speaker 1 (14:04):
Then I'll be back on. Yeah, that'd be fun like that.
I like that, not to self call them mannings about
that idea. I'm telling you, it's a relationship that I
don't get. And I wonder how much is Mike Tomlin
losing his fastball like that? I really it's it's very
difficult to see why with such a tough way, in
such a way he has for his players, where you
got to perform. No, no, no, We're gonna walk around
(14:25):
eggshells around Russell Wilson, who is a guy that should understand, Boy,
my football mortality. I'm right on the edge right now.
This is not the middle of my.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Look at his stats from last year, Jason, those are
folks that read a box score instead of actually watching
a game. Watch him do that electric football game where
he the defensive lineman. He gets crushed.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swalling dome fastball, Mike
Tomlin a lot lower than that should be Coming up next,
Jason Locking Forest hops by all the latest big news
in the NFL, CE Dak Prescott, Drake May running backs more.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Keep it right here, Jason and Mike. This is Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm. Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart, but the very
next day you gave it away. Are you calling George
Michael a thief? I'm just saying it sound a little
bit like last Christmas? Yeah, tiny bit, tiny bit, tinymite.
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
(15:41):
live from the Tireck dot Com Studios. Nothing more frustrating
yesterday than watching people try to make hot takes happen. Okay,
after Zach Wilson's Oh your Guy, final game of the
preseason at Landon, Denver, Zach Wilson has a nice game, right,
plays pretty well, and all of a sudden, it was
(16:02):
I love how good Zach Wilson is. Now had to
get him away from the Jets. The Jets ruined him.
Zach Wilson's ceiling is unbelievable, and I'm going, oh wow,
you just either want to love hot takes or just
want to ignore the fact that he's stunk. And I
I all of a sudden, I'm like, because the guy
(16:22):
lights it up in the like, I thought we were
past this where if a guy lights it up in
the preseason against backups and third stringers. It's eh, you
know his backups and third stringers. No, no, no, look out,
great Zach. Will you want him starting for you? Go ahead, good,
you want him? Say you think he's so good?
Speaker 3 (16:37):
Smart guy?
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Hey be happy if Sean Payton starts him over bow Nicks,
start Zach Wilson.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
See how that goes? Okay?
Speaker 4 (16:43):
Oh, you know what this is all is? It's not
it's not about Zach.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
It's just hating the Jets.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
No, just want to laugh at the Jets. It's a
little bit of laughing at the Jets. But it's more
about the Jets propping up. What a super genius and
great coach bringing the best out of everybody, Sean Payton
is that's all this, you know?
Speaker 1 (17:00):
And the thing is is I'm old enough to remember
to actually watched Zack Wilson in summer last couple of years.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
And you know what, he was good last year.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
He was good.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
He was good last year and he melted like a
nearly seventy percent completion percentage.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
He was good quarterback, right, he was up near one hundred.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
I've seen him be good in the preseason, you know,
ips because it's against second stringers and third stringers. But
now suddenly, because it's Denver, it's the Jets fault and
Zack Wilson's can be You know what, there are many
things you can blame the Jets on, and do I
blame the Jets because, hey, Zack Wilson really didn't achieve
his his startup. Yeah, because the Jets could have put
him in a better position to succeed and they didn't.
(17:39):
And I understand that. But the bottom line is he
had many games to figure that crap out. He had
many games of the Jets on the field to figure
it out. He had guys wide open. How many times
you have to see plays? How did Zack Wilson not
make this throw? Oh my god, you got a guy
running across the middle of the field and there's nobody around,
There's nobody within ten yards of him, and Zack Wilson
doesn't see him. I saw those plays when the footballs
(17:59):
fl for real, things are different, and I see.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
This for Zack Wilson, I go, this is you know
why I'm gonna close social media.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
I'm done.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
I know what I need to walk away from it.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
And seeing Zach Wilson being the number one trending topic
on social.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
Media last night. I'm like, I got you know, and
go away.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
Yeah, But part of the reason he was trending was
because he was so effusive with the praise of bo
Nicks as the starter.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
So happy for him. He's ready for the two guys
who didn't win the starting job with Denver. Jared Sondham says,
I'm so bummed. Hey, Zach Wilson, what about you. I'm
happy for Bo. I think he's gonna do great things.
I'm starting. I'm stoked for the guy. In other words,
I want to be the Sam Weinberg. I want no
responsibilities here whatsoever.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
Well, I want to be the backup, and I want
to stick around.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
I'm excited.
Speaker 4 (18:48):
I want to think out what salty that guy is.
He's not gonna he's not gonna be a good teammate
because he thinks he should be starting. I won't ship
him off and let me stay here in Denver.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
More people will subscribe to my mom's social media channel
if maybe they like me more, and maybe that will
help her.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
Has she been doing anything of late?
Speaker 5 (19:04):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
Well, when you're third stringer in Denver, it's not not
quite like starting.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
With that figure, Mom would probably have to work a
little harder.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Yeah, a little bit.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
You have a little more, Yeah, you have her friends,
give a little more in the community.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
So not one, but two. Honey, you want to other
hot take right now, let's go.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
How about Tom Brady with a hot take that that well,
I've been giving you for the last few months. The
fanatics Fest that's been going on the last few It
went on last week, Big deal and what's starting to
make the rounds now is a podcast that he taped
with Jalen Brunson a couple other New York Mix players,
because you know, the Fanatic Fest is in New York
and Brady's getting a lot of attention for this kind
(19:44):
of prediction he made while talking to the Knicks players
about what it's like to play in the Final slash
super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
To win the super Bowl is just a whole other thing.
It's probably like get of the finals. It's hard to
get there. And then once you get there, now you
got to really compete. We I know what that is yet,
we would not know, but yeah, we would feel you're
gonna get there.
Speaker 4 (20:05):
Yeah, we don't know what that is. You gotta fit.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
No, it's this year. I've told you for months the
Knicks are going to the finals. They're that good.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
They had they to my pa and you're wearing wrang junderpants.
I've never told you the nick are going to make
the finals up until this year, and they should have
if they were, if they weren't injured.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
All across the board.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
It's a war of a treasure area season and you've
got tennis where coach, And I'm okay. If Brady wants
to sit behind me on the Knicks bandwagon, that's fine,
telling me how to drive.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
He's he'd be that kind of guy. Check your gauges.
Check this to Tom. We're fine, I'm driving fine. You're
the guy that said it after.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
No, not here. It just be he's showing up. Then
he's hiring the driver. You can't. I'm not driving a car.
That guy in there, and we're gonna have a nice
long chat and maybe a nice Kiante while someone else
drives us to a destination.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
I told you the Knicks we're going to the finals.
Everybody wants to get on the bat. That's absolutely fine
because it's happening.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
You know, you like Tom Brady.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
Twenty five years you hate it. He talks to Fox.
He talks about the Knicks winning something totally easier here.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
I've never rooted for him more than to be right
about this in my life. Ben Paller's next Fox
