(00:52):
So uh here we are. My got no preamble, no yeah,
oh boy, oh boy. Coach Prime Beep danger danger, college
football hitting us tonight, all right, Week zero. We had
it last week. It was fantastic. We had a little
bit of college football last night. But Colorado is the
show right now, year two of Coach Prime and right

(01:15):
now against North Dakota State early in the third quarter,
Colorado trails NDSU twenty to seventeen. A crazy interception a
couple of minutes ago, Shader Sanders, looking for his third
touchdown pass of the night, had a ball bounce off

(01:35):
of a receiver's foot who had fallen to the ground,
up in the air, picked off by a linebacker, and
so what was going to be the go ahead touchdown
or at least a field goal to tie the game
instead turned into a turnover. North Dakota State couldn't do
anything with it. They punted the ball back to Colorado.
So it is a twenty to seventeen NDSU lead right
now with just under ten minutes left to go. And

(01:57):
I'll tell you right now the best And this is
where is where we're at with Colorado, with Deon Sanders, Hey,
draw balls eye on me here it is you're afray
all these different things. He's gone, all the drama over
the course of the last few months. No matter what
happens in this game, Dion's coming out of this going,
oh man, this is gonna be rough, because if they

(02:17):
pull out a win against North Dakota State, it's gonna
be well, dude, you have to pull out a win
against Come on, North Dakota State, man, Come on, come on, dude,
really you had to pull out a win here? Do
we have to go back to the power five day
you're pulling out a win or worst case, snary, you're losing,
in which case, how many games are you really gonna
win this year? You know, when I said a couple
of weeks ago, this looks like it's gonna be the

(02:39):
last year in Colorado for Deon Sanders, I mean, I
don't know that he might not even have a say
on it by the end. Not that we're talking about
two and a half quarters being being Hey, we could
tell the whole season, but boy, when you start off
the season at home, all kinds of attention, all kinds
of offensive firepower. We fixed everything. Warren Sapp is either
helping to coach or playing on the defensive line for Colorado,

(03:00):
so things should be better than hey, we're down by
a field goal to NDSU at home in the middle
of the third quarter.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Well, but this was a team that was as the
schedule was announced, and we've been looking forward to this one,
you know, one that had a giant and big blinking
red light next to it of a danger zone, a
team that plays well in these types of spots historically,
and months to prepare with Dion and company, what is
it forty one new players on the roster and look

(03:30):
transfers and new scholarships. That's the story of college football.
But when you are already so depleted on the offensive
and defensive lines, where you're reconstituting all of that breaking
into new coaching staff, including Warren Sapp who loved his
first Colorado walk yesterday, celebrating that on social media. All

(03:52):
of that to say, they're only a ten point favorite
in this one, which rang some alarms as well, not
to match, and they're gonna have a bunch of money
of people that are just rooting against Dion in this process.
I thought, from an editorial standpoint, before the little dodgeball interception,
you know, defalling defender and pegged him in the back
of the leg and he gets kicked up for the

(04:14):
int was that coming out of halftime, you've had a
full pregame show, a whole half, and a halftime show
that as the first play of the second half was
being run, they were showing the footage of Dion responding
to Keeler and the Colorado, the Denver Post Press and
putting up quotes from that back and forth, like the

(04:37):
game's back on. Yeah, it's been going for two hours
and you're just now getting to this part of the story.
This seemed like part of the you know, the the
prelude to the battle that was about to be waged,
as opposed to all right, middle of the fight, let's
give you some of the backstory.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
If you came into this year and Dion came in
with a Okay, last year was last year I learned
a little bit, right, because Dion's always gonna be himself,
but he's he's never going to take criticism. If he
had come into this year with just a little bit
of humility and understanding that, Okay, maybe the job is
going to require a little bit more than I expected

(05:16):
it to, right, because he came in last year and thought,
I'm bringing all my players from one double A from FCS.
We're gonna come in, we're gonna roll, and my second
year it's gonna be unbelievable and we're gonna go and
beat everybody. But I think he probably, I think he
knows after that first year, Okay, it's gonna be a
little bit more, we just don't show up. And and
attitude wins games, you know, and attitude and attitude and
and and optics and and and being a being a

(05:39):
cult hero or a cult phenomenon. And that's one thing.
But you gotta win football games, right, I mean, that's
that's He could be as entertaining as hell, but if
you don't win, it's it's it's not going to go
well for you. If he had just come into the
season with a little bit of hey, okay, I kind
of get that it needs a we need a little
bit more, a little bit quieter off season, a little
bit less I'm picking fights with everybody. And I think

(06:00):
that the pressure for da it would have ratchet itself
down a bit. But instead all he did was amp
it up to make it be a Hey, this year
is a winter bust year. I mean, and I don't
mean win or bust like hey, like if I if
we win, I'm gonna go coach the Broncos, you know,
or I'm gonna I'm gonna go follow my son to
the NFL and I'm gonna coach the Giants or the
Patriots next year. Now, this is gonna be winter or
bust Hey, guess what the Deon Sanders experience is gonna

(06:21):
be over because Colorado's gonna say, we can't deal with
this anymore. We're done. We're done with the atmosphere. We're
done with all the reports of funds of of of
of fights, and and and and and players not liking
each other and and lawyers, guns and money and the
big story from a couple of weeks ago, this is
what's ramping in the program. Had he just shown a
little bit of it, like, hey, I get what the

(06:41):
job is now, and I respect college football and I
respect what's going on and what everybody else does across
the country, it would have been easier because that was
a lot of what the hate was before, a lot
of a lot of the when when Dion comes in,
he's polarizing, but he comes in with a yeah, there's
nothing to it, and I can win here, and I'm
just gonna take my guys, I'm gonna do whatever I
want to. And all the other coaches in the NFL
and in college football, all the big time coaches like

(07:02):
you know what, it takes a little bit more than this,
and for you to come in with this kind of
attitude like yeah, I'm just showing up and we're gonna
roll right through. No. I kind of take a little
bit umber to that. I take a little bit of
a I'm a little upset by that. So that's what
really started everything off. On the on the foot it
was last year and he's doubled down on it. Well,
that's who he is.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
I mean, you're not going to change after thirty five years,
and it made you a guy that whenever they talk
about Hall of Famers and who's you know, on the
Mount Rushmore or gets his own wing, it's always predicated
on all right, Dion's in that wing.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Who's joining him right now?

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Now, let's have our debates, so we have all of
those kind of discussions that flow through. So for him,
after all these years, the halls of fame, being a
professional at a high level both as a baseball player
and arguably the best cornerback and one of the best
return men that we've ever seen in the game, you

(07:57):
naturally think that's going to extend as a broadcast, as
a pitch man, all of those things. That's that's what
made you.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
You.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
You know, whether he likes it or not, the cult
of Dion Is is a very real thing because it
attracts people to the party, because it's a winning attitude
and has right even after a couple of wins last year, Right,
you know, do you believe that was the question before
you were able to be able to ask a question
in press conference? And you know, Bravado and kind of

(08:26):
mock it to a degree, especially as the losing started
to mount up. But yeah, I wouldn't expect him to change,
and certainly for him, you know, that's what separates him
and is going to attract recruits, maybe going to push
some recruits away, but in a sport that's devoid of
a lot of big personality, he shines brighter.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Right.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
If you had other coaches that could, you know, have
that kind of spotlight and own it, then maybe it
doesn't go so much onto Colorado. But you know, there
it is Dion and his sons and Travis Hunter. That's
a nice quartet to work with.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
I mean, but it's like, but a win doesn't even
help him at this point, Like a win still feels
like a loss. Like here you are out here, all
this Bravado, all of this, and you barely are able
to get by North Dakota succeed in pre sels, but
it still feels like a loss. Like I mean, not
all wins and losses created equally. I mean, they look,
there's some good stuff to get to with Colorado, which
you get to in a second, but oh, Ralseley, you

(09:25):
come out of this, you're not feeling good. Like even
if coloradof they come out here and say, hey, we
wont removing on. No, it's oh my god, dude, we
almost got beat by North Dakota State man, they held
us all the way through. We couldn't stop them off
the field.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
But he addressed that a couple of weeks ago, you know,
even joking about, hey, you couldn't schedule me someone else
to start the season as opposed to a perennial powerhouse. Yeah,
it's a different division. But they've got a program, right,
a program that wins. And there were again only a
ten point spread at home, so there was already a
little bit built into that number to say, hey, they're

(09:58):
gonna get tested. This is a team that runs on you.
They're physical. What was the problem with Colorado a year ago?
They couldn't handle physical teams and got run over.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Yeah, but you're you're still FCS team, You're still an
FAS team, it doesn't matter. You're respected. Yeah, but it's okay,
that's great. I'd rather lose to an unrespected Power five team.
That's a real They're going down an entire level of play.
It's the entire level of play, and you're gonna lose.
I'd rather Look, hey, if I get surprised by Colorado State,
I'd rather lose that game. You know, Oh, okay, because

(10:29):
the upsets like that happen. You look at fcs like
these are dotted across the landscape of some of the
most damning losses. They still talk about the Appalachian State
win over Michigan, and that was almost twenty years ago
at this point.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Right, But that's not a team that routinely rises up
to win these kind of games. With North Dakota State historically,
what are they six and one, seven and one in
these situations, so they've come to play. It's it's the
when you schedule the early games. Normally, you schedule someone
that isn't going to be on your level, even if

(11:01):
they're on your level, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
No, I look like a Syracuse I got I got it,
I got it. You you want to be the guy
in the postgame press conference to be nice to Deon Sanders,
so he answers your question. No, I got that. That's
saying for that role. They're trying out for that role.
You're trying out for that role.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
But the point is, in this particular instance, this isn't
a cream puff opponent. Even if they're down a level. Again,
they win title after title, and for Dion, if every
game is going to be they've got to win by
twenty points or more. Again, we we used to have
just the spread was as long as you covered. Everybody

(11:37):
felt pretty good about what they did. But if you
need them to blow everybody out, I mean, that's going
to be a tough tough thing to live up to.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
On a week to week basis. You're opening up at
home against an FCS team. There are there are one
hundred and thirty three other teams in UH in FBS
that would say, oh yeah, we'll take that open multi
we'll take We're opening at home against an we'll take it.
We'll take it. We'll take it against this squad.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
Would I would argue, if they're honest in their in
their back hallways, that's not the case.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
All right, Well, so so good, you'll be able to
get a question to Dan at the end of the game.
So I'll be happy with that. He'll be he'll be up.
I'm not kissing his ass.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
I'm just saying if he succeed in proceed I didn't
expect them to come in here and blow their doors off.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
Now. Meanwhile, the others they are winning.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
Now, ye kind of put that up that he did
another touchdown pass to Travis Hunter.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
And if Travis Hunter is allowed to push off like
he is on every play this, he's going to catch
like three hundred passes.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
Well, that was the the old what you would yell
on the playground cheaters. Proof on that interception is he
did push off a little bit of hand fighting and
then they let the big push off go that went
for a forty yard game Uh, to set up the
first and goal situation.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Yeah, But Travis Hunter and Schaudur Sanders, right, you want
to talk about what's good for Colorado in this game,
they are doing nothing to dispel any notion about how
good they are and how high they're going to get
drafted in the NFL draft. Shauduur Sanders looks fair, but
I thought these guys were no good Jayson. He looks fantasic.
I'm saying, you're still it's still a twenty four to
twenty game. It's the whole team, which is not just

(13:04):
an offensive scrimmage. Everybody's got to play, right, everyon's gotta play.
It's like if it was an offensive scrimmage, that's one thing.
But you know, that's why we keep score because both
teams get the football. It kind of happens that way.
But Sanders looks great. Three seventy five and three touchdowns
and Travis Hunter's caught five for one hundred and sixteen
yards and two scores already. Yes, a couple of pushoffs
have gotten them touchdowns, but still you can see the

(13:25):
talent these guys have. And you're talking about two top
five guys in the NFL draft right now, like right now,
going off of last year, and where you know about
these guys and where you see them right now. I mean,
you're talking about two top five guys on this team
right now. Oh they're fantastic.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
I mean, the ball comes out of sugar Sanders so
easily slides and glides towards the sideline. Gonna have to,
you know, be a little more cognizant of the guy
coming from the backside as he's kind of tiptoeing and
trying to extend to play because you're gonna get blown
up at least once doing that with some regularity. But Hunter, yes,
the pushoffs, but you just see how he finds space

(14:04):
and the two of them, their connection is is just
as we get this season started. I don't know who
would be a better tandem that you would throw out
there right now. So yeah, exciting to watch, but you know,
it's if we're going to do the thing with the
the f FCS and and what North Dakota State is,
I gotta be fair. I got to see him doing

(14:24):
against a better team.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Yeah, yeah, I'm saying. But it's not like they've not
done this. It's not like, hey, look at this first guy.
It's like, Okay, they've picked up right where they left off, obviously,
And you think about that, two guys in the top
five that play on the same side of the football
skill position players like that's that's an insane top level
talent to have on a college team and it's gonna
be a fun year watching them do it. Uh As

(14:50):
NFL scouts go, wait, waits where we maybe shouldar Sanders
goes number one overall, maybe maybe like Kim more than
Carson Becke.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
Hang on well, because remember the guy that got drafted
this year. You're you know in Chicago, played on a
USC team that couldn't stop you and me and nine
of our closest friends.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
This is true.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
So he still put up some points overall, NDSU nine
and four against FBS teams in their history.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
Exit out about a fresca, Exit swollen dome. The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmon Live from the tyreck dot
Com Studios. It is a Colorado twenty four to twenty
lead over North Dakota State. Five minutes to go in
the third quarter. North Dakota State's just got a first
down in their drive. We'll continue again. Big night for
Shor Sanders, big night for Travis Hunter, but overall not

(15:34):
so big a night for Colorado.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
Jues when baby I mean Illinois beat me Eastern Illinois seventeen.
Now we got a full grid of college football. It's
a beautiful day.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
Coming up next. We'll have more in the Big Night,
But big goings on in the NFL today. One wide
receiver is incredibly happy, and one quarterback is really really mad.
That's coming up next right here, Jason and Mike. You're
listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
Be sure to catch live atitions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
Paully Foods gohead with Tony Foodsco. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (16:11):
As everybody knows, we're the hosts of the award winning
Polly and Toni Foodsco Show.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (16:15):
But instead of us telling you how great we are,
here's how Dan Patrick described us when he came on
our show.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated. What what are you doing?
We were interrupting our promo.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Yeah, he wasn't talking about you. You took those clips
totally of context.

Speaker 4 (16:32):
Oh yeah, well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Let me put this into context.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Shut up. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
Anyway, just listening to the Paully and Toni Fusco Show
on iHeartRadio, Apple podcasts O wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
Yee, Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My
best friend Mike Harmon live Fromthetirack dot Com Studios closing in.
On the end of the third quarter, Colorado leeds North
Dakota State twenty four to twenty. They were trailing halftime
twenty to seventeen a Travis Hunter touchdown after some pushoffs.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
Hey, did you know that throw out of the lead
The kicker for Colorado has walk up music too.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
Oh that's pretty cool man, that's pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
Yeah, yeah, he had that, and then when he transferred,
he said he wanted to keep that tradition going, so
he comes out to something from Daddy Yankee.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
Okay, all right, wait with Damn Yankees. Daddy yan you
take me now. That would be pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
Although he barely cleared the crossbar on that knuckleball that he.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
Helped and the half that's why high enough would be
hell or a kicker, Yeah, it would be. I'd like
that if you come out kickers got walk up music
to kick and then you miss and you get trolled
by the team playing the song again, like if you're
playing away like that.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
Is like Narco playing when you come out to say
it again.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
Hey, thank you for today. Edwin di has way to
bounce back. So we'll have more from the NFL. I'm
more on college football coming up and again going to
the fourth quarter right now, Colorado with a four point
lead over in North Dakota State. Meanwhile, Brandon Ayuk is
staying with San Francisco. After he wanted to be traded,

(18:06):
they were going to trade him. They had a trade
worked out, then they didn't have a trade worked out,
Then they had another trade worked out that he didn't
want that trade, Then they had a third trade worked out,
and then that trade didn't happen. Finally, Brandon Ayuk and
the forty nine ers have a resolution. He is staying
with the team and a contract extension for four years
and one hundred and twenty million dollars going to be

(18:27):
in San Francisco now through twenty twenty eight, seventy six
million guaranteed, forty seven million of it to be paid
to him before April of twenty twenty five. So he's
now the fifth highest paid receiver in the NFL, averaging
thirty million dollars a season. Now, there's two takes for this.
There's the micro and the macro take on this. Because
I love that you taught me about that a few
years a macician. It's pretty cool, man. I like that.

(18:49):
I feel like I went to the Mike Harmon Business School.
I got some other thoughts for you.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
I didn't have to pay any money on it. Listen, no,
de he's not I didn't get any.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
Stop trying to getop, trying to get me to buy
some Max Schurzer game. Warn Mets card Jersey it not buying.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
I wouldn't bother with that. I do have a Max
Schurezer numbered to seven from a couple of years ago,
if you're interested in that. He's not in a match
uniform though, So it doesn't help.

Speaker 1 (19:14):
First thing is this is the right move for all parties, right.
The forty nine ers are in a window right now
about the super Bowl, which we'll get to. But for
Brandon Ayuk, Yeah, you've been really good with San Francisco.
You have a pretty good connection with brock Purty. You
could have gotten Delta other places. But by and large, okay,
if thirty million dollars what you were gonna get and

(19:36):
this is the same offer according to reports, that has
been on the table for him for about a month. Hey,
he looked around, tried to get more, tried to get
to a situation that he might like better, couldn't find either.
So okay, now I'm back with this, and it's the
right move, right because this this is a guy that
now gets paid and is in a position to win,
and is gonna be in a position to at least

(19:58):
contend for the next few years, rather than do I
throw it all away and try to go to Cleveland
where who knows what's gonna happen to quarterback? Do I
try to go to New England where who knows what's
gonna happen to quarterback? Or do I stay here? Or
I kind of know what's gonna happen, and if I
have a really good next five years, guess what, maybe
I can squeak out another big contract. Or because the
flip side of it is I go somewhere, I kind

(20:20):
of get lost. I kind of fall into DeAndre Hopkins
scale of hey boy, he's gonna be great on his
new team, and then suddenly it's is DeAndre Hopkins even
in the league anymore? So this was the right call
for you, because he got paid, he got paid with
the team he should he should stay with, and now
he's put himself in a position to succeed the next
few years where at some point wants to renegotiate get
more years added to his deal more money. He's in

(20:42):
the best position to do, so this is the right
move from both buys.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
Yeah, I'm curious you know what the final fine total
will be because we we're watching that tracker mount up
for both him and well Trent Williams, who remains unsigned,
the guy that they really really need, especially against your Jets.
But we'll discuss that as we start previewing week one
in earnest next week. But when we look at you know,

(21:06):
there's a old quote from Adam Carolla from his early
days of his podcast that I always always stuck with me.
Ask yourself this, Does it make me happy? Does it
make me money? The answer to both of those is no,
Well then you don't do it. You kind of shrug
and you walk away. The answer to one of them

(21:26):
is yes, all right, let's explore it. Let's now do
a value proposition. And while you may have been happy
being the number one guy, the undisputed number one guy
and a pivotal key component of an offense, look at
those teams you just mentioned Cleveland, we still have questions
of the quarterback. We love the roster, but the quarterback position, Eh,

(21:46):
we'll talk about him more Deshaun Watson Company, New England.
We've already talked about that, right, the over under is
what four four and a half. No, that's not helping Washington,
which is moderately intriguing. But are they ready Maybe maybe
not because they became a dark horse of this. Or
you go to Pittsburgh where you have two quarterbacks, where
it's more or less a hey, make it quick kind

(22:08):
of scenario out of the dark night, the way Mike
Tomlin handled the quarterback position when it was all said done,
let's just get somebody out there and go to work.
None of those situations make you better from a player standpoint.
So you might get a couple extra bucks, right, It's like,
all right, I can go do insert whatever job. Whatever
you all do out there for a living. You might

(22:29):
be able to go do something else that pays you
a little bit more money, But are you gonna be
happy doing that eight hours a day or happier than
what you're currently doing? You know, the old grass is
always greener philosophy. Here, you're still a part, a pivotal
piece to a team that is six to one to
win the Super Bowl. Your co favorites with the Kansas

(22:49):
City Chiefs and they're gonna give you thirty million dollars
seventy six million guaranteed for what a few dollars more
you would have gone to a place. By week six,
you're going, what the hell did I do? This guy
can't throw me the ball and my next contract. I'm
a jag. I'm no longer a guy that people are
arguing whether I deserve top ten money, because that's what

(23:12):
Ayuk became, right, top ten, top twelve money, whatever. In
the end, he becomes top five because of timing for
fantasy purposes. He's you know, back in WR two. But
that's a whole other conversation for another time. But for this, Yeah,
comra heads prevail and I'd love to just have been
in the office going just wait him out, wait him out.

(23:33):
It's gonna click, It's gonna click. And then he goes light.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
Bulb The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from
the tirec dot Com Studios. So there's your there's your
micro point on Ayuk works for him, works for the Niners,
everything makes sense. Here's the bigger point. This is the
final year of the San Francisco forty nine ers dynasty.
Like this is at the dinasty, the effort to get

(23:58):
one to get a Super Bowl. This is the last
year they're gonna do it. Because you're sitting right now
in a situation where, Okay, we got all our guys paid,
except our starting left tackle, who's been the best left
tackle in the game. Uh is sitting at home and
he's not coming until we give him more money. Okay,
we're gonna have to give Trent Williams more money. And

(24:19):
maybe Trent they give it to him before Week one,
but more than likely, what's gonna happen. They're gonna play
the Jets. The Jets defensive line are are gonna is
gonna play the piano on brock Perty and they're gonna
they're gonna say, Okay, wait a minute, let's give him
some money. Let's give him some money now.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
If they can scheme it up and keep the Jets
at Bay, that becomes one of the greatest scenarios.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
And games of chicken in the NFL history. We kept
that de we kept Jermaine Johnson off, and we kept
quitting Williams. No, we don't need him, it's absolutely fine.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
But you know how they could really make that all work. Yeah, yeah,
four and a half snaps on the other side.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
Yeah, good luck, good good luck, good good luck keeping
that hey win or lose the game, it's gonna be.
They're gonna play the piano on Brock party, and so
that's where it's gonna be. Okay, Now we to give
Trent Williams money, right, so he's gonna get some kind
of money at some point. That will be the eighth
person to be making fifteen million dollars a year for

(25:11):
the forty nine ers, a league high. You have eight
of eight guys making more than fifteen million dollars a year.
And oh, by the way, next year, you got to
give way more money to Brock Purty. And I know
that potentially you could play hardball with Purdy because you
don't have to give him sixty million dollars a year
next year because of the way his rights go. But
are you really gonna piss off your quarterback and say, sorry, Brock,

(25:33):
this is all we can give you. Wait a minute,
I've been playing for nothing for the last few years.
I've been paying for nothing. I took that beating from
the Jets week one when you don't want to sign
by left tackle. And now you're telling me, oh, this
is all we can do. Uh uh. So you're not
gonna piss off your quarterback, so you're gonna have to
sign and give him a ton of money. Like a
lot of these guys are gonna have to go. A
lot of these guys are gonna be gone. And when

(25:53):
these guys go, there goes the big advantage the forty
nine ers have over everybody. They have assembled a star
studded roster, and it is something to see in this
era being able to balance all of these superstars to say, hey,
and these aren't just hey guys playing past that prime. Yeah,
Trent Williams is thirty six, but the guys still are
the best left tackles in the game. But this is
the year. Like with that, After this year, it becomes

(26:14):
markedly more difficult to win a Super Bowl because you're
saying goodbye to a lot of talent that you have
to replace. Other talent that's cheaper, that may or may
not work out, that is probably not gonna be as
good as the guys you have to replace. So you're
gonna have to say goodbye to three or four of them.
And what does that do to your team? You go
from being Hey, we're the top favorites to Hey, we're
just another contender and you're hoping every year for the

(26:36):
next couple of years. Hey, we win enough games, we
have a good enough talent to win to make the playoffs,
but overwhelming super Bowl favorite. That's not us. This is
the year. This is the last year that the Niners
are gonna have this great a chance. It's all in
on this year, which is why you should say, Okay,
Trent Williams, what do you want? We'll figure everything else
out after. I don't give a crap, what do you want? Like,

(26:57):
you're going all in with all of these guys now,
and you're gonna keep playing chicken with Trent Williams really like,
it doesn't make sen. You gave ioup the money you
gave everybody, you paid everybody else. Now, Oh no, no, now,
you gonnot give money to this guy. Of course you are.
Just do it now. Oh I shouldn't say that because
I want them to not play week one against the Jets.
Do it right after Week one? No, but seriously, what sappy?
Why not? Hey, you know what, we'll figure everything out

(27:18):
at the end at the end of the year. Hopefully
it's a super Bowl title for us. We're holding up
to Lombardi Trophy and everything is awesome and and everybody
can write their legacy and most guys are getting paid.
Some guys are gonna go somewhere else. But we've won
the super Bowl and then we'll figure everything else out.
Like the Niners they tried to. They take so long
to think things out, sometimes right like they take they're

(27:40):
the if they were a chess player, there'd be some
of your playing a chessco. Dude, you can't take eight
minutes to make a move. I don't want to make
the wrong one.

Speaker 3 (27:48):
If the timer hasn't gone off, maybe he frustrated, and
then you make a bad move because you've lost your mind.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
They just take so long. They take so long to
make quarterback decisions. They take so long. Who's gonna start,
Who's gonna get paid? How are they gonna week? They
take so.

Speaker 3 (28:04):
But here's the analogy that we can use being here
in southern California. Let's go down to the beach and
you think about those tasty waves are our buddy Matt
Bunny Smith from a five seventy ride the way, It's
happy Birthday, Matt, all that fun and You can see
them and they look huge, right, but then once they
start getting towards the shore, they're little. That's the way
that the forty nine ers are gonna handle this. There's

(28:25):
a giant wave that they have to ride in with
all of these contracts. But then we just could keep
converting them all into signing bonuses so we can smooth
them out for a nice easy landing on the beach
next to you and your dog. You might have named
him decoy.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
I don't know. Hey decoy. Hey, that's great, look at it.
We're excited now, Nick Bosa, Brandon Ayuk, Deebo, Samuel Trent Williams,
Javon Hargrave, Fred Warner, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle. Eight guys
making more than fifteen million dollars a year, eight of them.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
See, and Fred was the guy that was really the
MVP of that whole twenty seventeen trade. Remember when they
fleece the bears and made fun of him and everything. No, no,
Fred Warner was the guy that was actually the big
win out of all.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
This is true. Sometimes you have to wait a while
for the winner, Like we don't have a real winner now,
just wait to learn no.

Speaker 3 (29:19):
But remember that they declared themselves the winner. Yes, that
it took a little bit of time, and now there's
Captain Fred getting after it.

Speaker 1 (29:27):
So this is like this is the year. Like after
this it's done. The Niners are done. They have to
win this year. So you pay Trent Williams, what the
hell speaking of a guy who declares himself the winner. Well,
he doesn't quite do that, but he declares winners of games.
It's Steve de Sager, and he's got what's trending in
the wide world.

Speaker 5 (29:43):
Of sports, and plenty of that tonight. My goodness, it's
a nice college football schedule. And as you have mentioned,
there is a game at Colorado tonight and it's the
Buffs twenty four to twenty over North Dakota Stay with
about twelve minutes to go. The angel shut out Detroit
three to nothing today, and Texas beat the White Socks
in Chicago two to one. Nathan, of all these seven
scoreless innings, ten strikeouts getting the win. The White Sox

(30:06):
have lost seven straight back to you.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
Is that the one hundred and fiftieth loss of the
seat for the White Sox.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
Twenty first time this year they've been swept in a series.
Let's go twenty one.

Speaker 5 (30:17):
It's one hundred and four defeats, just for the record,
thirty thirty one and one oh four.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
Just wait because now you got the Mets coming to town,
and the Mets are going to lose two out of three.
Just what, Let's watch work out? Thank you, Steve exit
out about a Fresca exit swollen down. The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Carmon live from the
tirack dot Com studios. More college football on the way,
but straight ahead. Yes, there's your wide receiver who's incredibly

(30:44):
happy in Brandon Ayuk. What superstar quarterback is really mad
after today? We got that coming up next right here,
Jason to Mike. This is Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen
lave from the tiraq dot Com Studios. Just under nine
minutes ago, in the fourth quarter, Colorado knocking on the door.
They lead North Dakota State twenty four to twenty. This
game has been back and forth, Colorado just calling time out.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
Yeah, better's everywhere freaking out.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Uh yeah, it's still still ways to go.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
Still name spread ten or ten and a half depending
on where you were shopping.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
So that is how many? Is that? How many push
offs for Travis Hunter? Is that what I get in
this game? Ten and a half? Yeah? For push offs
Travis Hunter?

Speaker 3 (31:34):
Hey, you know what, It goes back to the old
rule of thumb. If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying. Sure,
and if they ain't, they don't call it or they
don't catch you. Ay, you you didn't do anything illegal? No, no,
I certainly don't espouse that, and I'm not trying to
encourage you out there.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
But if they're not gonna call it a fall, right,
is that a thing can I do in game? In
game wagering on the amount of times Travis Hunter pushes off,
whether or not he gets called for it or not,
like it, like, if if it, if it's if it,
if he absolutely does it, it doesn't matter. If it's
really a penalty.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
Well that's the thing. We've got to get an official
in the booth to adjudicate that. And now now it
starts getting really into a dangerous all.

Speaker 1 (32:14):
Right, we'll call it we'll call it Mike Perera. We'll
figure that out.

Speaker 5 (32:17):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
So again, we'll keep you updated on this game still
long ways ago. Uh, Colorado facing third in goal from
about the four yard line. Meanwhile, Dak Prescott today got
about as mad as I've ever really heard Dak Prescott,
which is not at all, but for Dak, like this
is like mad for Dak what we heard every time
we've talked about his contract when he when he talks

(32:38):
about a game, a loss, he is always very measured.
He is always much, very much the professional, and you
never see too much of a of a yin or
yang for him. Uh, emotion wise, like he know, he
knows how to play it, he knows how to how
to deal with wins and losses. He gets it. But
this is about as mad as I've ever heard him.

(32:59):
Talking about the fact that whether or not he gets
his contract extension by the beginning of the season, says
a lot like if he gets it, it means, hey,
the Cowboys love me. If I don't get it, it
means they don't like me, and then we have a
problem here. He was talking about it today.

Speaker 6 (33:16):
As I said, well, back in camp, it's two parts
of this both sides have to come to the room.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
You don't need a deal done before the season.

Speaker 1 (33:24):
I don't need to know, No, do what you like
it done before the season. I think it says a
lot if it is or if it isn't.

Speaker 6 (33:30):
But however it doesn't doesn't really matter to me, to
be honest with you, if it isn't, just how people feel.

Speaker 1 (33:37):
So what he's saying is, if you don't sign me
by the beginning of the season, this shows me how
you feel about me as a quarterback. And this is
as mad as or as much of a line in
the sand that I've seen Dak Prescott ever talk about
when it comes to his contract. And the crazy thing
about it is, I know that that I understood that

(33:58):
Venom Jerry Jones kind of gave in for CD LAMB.
You know, the new Jerry Jones when Venom took over
in the off season, saying now I'm not gonna pay
anybody and I'm all in on this season. Well, you know,
Eddie Brock took over Jerry Jones's body and day they
got money for CD. Now, Curi, I was supposed to
be in one of these negotiations. Well, sorry, but had
you leave a little bit, Venom, you had to go

(34:19):
take care of some stuff in San Francisco, so I
was able to get rid of you for a little bit.
Now I paid a paid CD, but Jerry I didn't
get to eat his head at all. No, no, no
cha CD money. Now I'm gonna go give them money
to Dak Prescott. No, Jerry, you have to wait until
the end of the season. Look at what he did
in the playoffs the last two years. He was your
worst player. You went home to San Francisco, you went,
you gave a perfect quarterback brading to Jordan Love. You

(34:41):
can't do that. You have to let me eat his head,
all right? Well maybe maybe maybe I just won't sign
him for a little bit. Oh that's my Jerry talking Eddie.
Who's Who's Eddie? Who's that? I mean Jerry Jerry like Venom,
Jerry Jones. I feel really confident is gonna be there
throughout for Dak Prescott and he is not going to

(35:01):
get paid until the season is over. And he has
proven to Jerry Jones that he is worthy of getting
sixty million dollars a year. And by that I mean
a deep playoff run where Dak Prescott plays well, I
know that I took Hey, okay, Venom Jerry Jones took
off for a bit and then Jerry and old Jerry
came back to give Ceedeelamb money. But I really I'm
doubling down. Venom Jerry Jones is gonna stop Jerry from

(35:25):
paying Dak Prescott. And it's gonna be a crazy story
all year long, and it's gonna be both sides at
Loggerheads and at the end of the year, Dak's gonna
be pissed and someone's gonna swoop in and pay him
sixty million. Like this is not going to happen for
Dak Prescott beginning of the season.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
It's just not I stopped honestly listening to things he
says to the media a long time ago. It really
doesn't hold weight with me. That was the money money
quote for for Dak Prescott for me, out of all
of this stuff. Yeah, and Dearry Jones Venom thing for
those unawares, Big Deal Night came organically and really took

(36:02):
on a life of its own, much like the Cymbiote.
So you got to check out the podcast wherever you
download your audio. But yeah, now we're at the point
where you never let him see you sweat. Dak Press
got sweating a little bit, and for no other reason,
he knows he's got to go out and play a
full season before the contract comes. That's an awful lot
of snaps. Right, we're talking about Shador Sanders, Right, he

(36:24):
just scrambled, he got hit, and he got up and
he got into the defender's face like you went back
into traffic and got hit. Dak's gonna have that a
lot behind to reconfigure Dallas offensive line this year. And
I know, uh, the Giants and and maybe some of
the other teams on the schedule don't quite have the teeth.
See what I did there symbiote so that to say, uh, yeah,

(36:46):
that's that's the thing he's most frustrated about. Yes, he'd's back,
and that's all fine and good, but recognizing that you've
now got to go through a seventeen game slate. Plus
not that you're crying poor because you're still making a
good salary this year, but this is something you'd like
to be resolved. It's all about getting your respect and
love and recognizing that something that has never happened Jerry

(37:10):
Jones still appears to be taking the hard line with
you where he's literally gone to other countries to find
players before one of whom is your teammate again, do.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
You think you think Dak with a camerack goes off
and he goes home, and he just fens he goes
He paid everybody else for twenty five years. Me, he's
gotta draw the line up. He's got a sound proof
wraw somewhere. He goes.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
I wasn't the one giving up all those points in
the first half. I didn't give Jordan Love that one
fifty eight point three.

Speaker 1 (37:41):
He's paid everybody else guys that even didn't deserve it,
and he's drawn the line on me. That's not he
paid running backs running bad. Dak ain't getting paid in Boy,
is this season gonna be something Exit outbout of Fresco,
Exit swallendo, more drama with Colorado and North Dakota State
and the chaos that is now engulfing one NFL Super

(38:04):
Bowl contender that's coming up next right here. Jason to Mike,
