This is the best of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon Live Fromthetirack dot Com studios. Closing in
on the end of the third quarter, Colorado leeds North
Dakota State twenty four to twenty. They were trailing at
halftime twenty to seventeen at Travis Hunter touchdown after some pushoffs.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Hey, did you know that threw out of the lead.
The kicker for Colorado has walk up music too. Oh
that's pretty cool, man, that's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Evan Lli he had that, and then when he transferred,
he said he wanted to keep that tradition going. So
he comes out to something from Daddy Yankee. Okay, all right,
wait with damn Yankees, Daddy Yank you take me now.
That would be pretty cool. Although he barely cleared the
crossbar on that knuckleball that he helped and the half
that's why high enough would be a kicker.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Yeah, I'd like that if you come out kickers got
walk up music to kick and then you miss and
you get trolled by the team playing the song again,
like if you're playing away like that.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Is like Narco playing when you come out to say.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
It again, Hey, thank you for today. Edwin Diaz wad to
bounce back, so we'll have more from the NFL. I'm
more in college football coming up and again going to
the fourth quarter right now, Colorado with a four point
lead over in North Dakota State. Meanwhile, Brandon Ayuk is
staying with San Francisco.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
After he wanted to be traded. They were going to
trade him.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
They had a trade worked out, then they didn't have
a trade worked out, Then they had another trade worked out,
they didn't want that trade, then they had a third
trade worked out, and then that trade didn't happen. Finally,
Brandon Ayuk and the forty nine ers have a resolution.
He is staying with the team and a contract extension
for four years and one hundred and twenty million dollars
going to be in San Francisco now through twenty twenty eight,
(02:12):
seventy six million guaranteed, forty seven million of it to
be paid to him before April of twenty twenty five.
So he's now the fifth highest paid receiver in the NFL,
averaging thirty million dollars a season. Now, there's two takes this.
There's the micro and the macro take on this. Because
I love that you tell me about that a few
years I Maxson's pretty cool man.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
I like that. I feel like I went to the
Mike Harmon Business School. I got some other thoughts for you.
I didn't have to pay. I didn't have to pay
any money on it. Listen, no, I didn't get any either.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Stop trying to geop trying to get me to buy
some Max Schuzer game, warn Mets card.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Parts of his jersey on it. Not buying, I wouldn't
bother with that. I do have a Max Sureser numbered
to seven from a couple of years ago, if you're
interested in that. He's not in a match uniform though,
so it doesn't help. The first thing is this is
the right move for all parties. Right.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
The forty nine ers are in a window right now
about the Super Bowl, which we'll get to. But for
Brandon Ayuk, Yeah, you've been really good with San Francisco,
you have a pretty good connection with brock Purty. You
could have gotten Delta other places. But by and large, okay,
if thirty million dollars what you were going to get,
and this is the same offer according to reports, that
(03:22):
has been on the table for him for about a month. Hey,
he looked around, tried to get more, tried to get
to a situation that he might like better, couldn't find either.
So Okay, now I'm back with this, and it's the
right move, right because this is a guy that now
gets paid and is in a position to win, and
is going to be in a position to at least
contend for the next few years. Rather than do I
(03:43):
throw it all away and try to go to Cleveland
where who knows what's going to happen to quarterback?
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Do I try to go to New England where who
knows what's going to happen to quarterback?
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Or do I stay here or I kind of know
what's going to happen and if I have a really
good next five years, guess what, maybe I can squeak
out another big contract. Or because the flip side of
it is, I go somewhere, I kind of get lost.
I kind of fall into DeAndre Hopkins scale of hey boy,
he's gonna be great on his new team, and then
suddenly it's is DeAndre Hopkins even in the league anymore.
So this was the right call for you because he
(04:12):
got paid. He got paid with the team he should
he should stay with, and now he's put himself in
a position to succeed the next few years where at
some point wants to renegotiate get more years added to
his deal, more money. He's in the best position to do.
So this is the right move from both buyis.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Yeah, I'm curious, you know what the final fine total
will be because we've were watching that tracker mount up
for both him and well Trent Williams, who remains unsigned,
the guy that they really really need, especially against your Jets.
But we'll discuss that as we start previewing week one
in earnest next week. But when we look at you,
(04:48):
you know, there's a gold quote from Adam Carolla from
his early days of his podcast that I always always
stuck with me. Ask yourself this, Does it make me happy?
Does it make me money? The answer to both of
those is no, Well then you don't do it. You
kind of shrug and you walk away. The answer to
one of them is yes, all right, let's explore it.
(05:10):
Let's now do a value proposition. And while you may
have been happy being the number one guy, the undisputed
number one guy and a pivotal key component of an offense,
look at those teams you just mentioned Cleveland, we still
have questions of the quarterback. We love the roster, but
the quarterback position. We'll talk about him more. Deshaun Watson Company,
(05:32):
New England. We've already talked about that, right. The over
under is what four four and a half. No, that's
not helping Washington, which is moderately intriguing. But are they
ready Maybe maybe not because they became a dark horse
of this. Or you go to Pittsburgh where you have
two quarterbacks, where it's more or less a hey, make
it quick kind of scenario out of the dark night,
(05:52):
the way Mike Tomlin handled the quarterback position. When it
was all said done, let's just get somebody out there,
and go to work. None of those situations make you
better from a player standpoint, So you might get a
couple extra bucks, right, It's like, all right, I can
go do insert whatever job. Whatever you all do out
there for a living. You might be able to go
do something else that pays you a little bit more money,
(06:15):
But are you gonna be happy doing that eight hours
a day or happier than what you're currently doing? You know,
the old grass is always greener philosophy. Here, you're still
a part, a pivotal piece to a team that is
six to one to win the Super Bowl. Your co
favorites with the Kansas City Chiefs, and they're gonna give
you thirty million dollars seventy six million guaranteed for what
(06:40):
a few dollars more you would have gone to a
place that by week six you're going, what the hell
did I do? This guy can't throw me the ball
and my next contract. I'm a jag. I'm no longer
a guy that people are arguing whether I deserve top
ten money, because that's what I became, right, top ten,
top twelve money, whatever. In the end, he becomes top
five because of timing for fantasy purposes, he's you know,
(07:03):
back in w R two. But that's a whole other
conversation for another time. But for this, Yeah, commra heads
prevail and I'd love to just have been in the
office going just wait him out, wait him out. It's
gonna click, It's gonna click. And then he goes light bulb.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from the
tirec dot Com Studios. So there's your there's your micro
point on Ayuk works for him, works for the Niners.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Everything makes sense. Here's the bigger point.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
This is the final year of the San Francisco forty
nine Ers dynasty. Like this is at the Dinasty, the
effort to get one to get a Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
This is the last year they're gonna do it.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Because you're sitting right now in a situation where, Okay,
we got all our guys paid, except our starting left tackle,
who's been the best left tackle in the game. Uh
is sitting at home and he's not coming until we
give him more money. Okay, we're gonna have to give
Williams more money, and maybe Trent they give it to
him before Week one, but more than likely, what's gonna
happen they're gonna play the Jets. The Jets defensive line
(08:08):
are gonna is gonna play the piano on brock Perty,
and they're gonna they're gonna say, Okay, wait a minute,
let's give him some money.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
Let's give him some money.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Now.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
If they can scheme it up and keep the Jets
at bay, that becomes one of the greatest scenarios in
games of chicken in the NFL history.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
We kept that de we kept Jermaine Johnson off, and
we kept quitting Williams. Now we don't need him. It's
absolutely fine.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
But you know how they how they could really make
that all work. Yeah, yeah, four and a half snaps
on the other side.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Yeah, good luck, good good luck, good good luck keeping
that Hey, win or lose the game, it's gonna be
They're gonna play the piano on brock Perty and so
that's where it's gonna be. Okay, Now we have to
give Trent Williams money, right, So he's gonna get some
kind of money at some point. That will be the
eighth person to be making fifteen billion dollars.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
A year for the forty nine ers, a league high.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
You have eight of eight guys making more than fifteen
million dollars a year. And oh, by the way, next year,
you got to give way more money to Brock Purty.
And I know that potentially you could play hardball with
Purdy because you don't have to give him sixty million
dollars a year next year because of.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
The way his rights go.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
But are you really gonna piss off your quarterback and say, sorry, Brock,
this is all.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
We can give you.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Wait a minute, I've been playing for nothing for the
last few year. I've been paying for nothing. I took
that beating from the Jets week one when you don't
want to sign my left tackle, and now you're telling me, oh,
this is all we can do.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Uh uh.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
So you're not gonna piss off your quarterbacks, so you're
gonna have to sign and give him a ton of money.
Like a lot of these guys are gonna have to go.
A lot of these guys are gonna be gone. And
when these guys go, there goes the big advantage the
forty nine ers have over everybody. They have assembled a
star studded roster, and it is something to see in
this era being able to balance all of these superstars
to say, hey, and these aren't just hey, guys playing
(09:49):
past that prime. Yeah, Trent Williams is thirty six, but
the guys still are the best left tackles in the game.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
But this is the year.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Like with that, After this year, it becomes markedly more
difficult to win a Super Bowl because saying goodbye to
a lot of talent that you have to replace. Other
talent that's cheaper, that may or may not work out,
that is probably not gonna be as good as the
guys you have to replace, So you're gonna have to
say goodbye to three or four of them. And what
does that do to your team? You go from being, hey,
we're the top favorites to hey, we're just another contender
(10:17):
and you're you're hoping every year for the next couple
of years, Hey, we win enough games, we have a
good enough talent to win to make the playoffs, but
overwhelming super Bowl favorite, that's not us. This is the year.
This is the last year that the Niners are gonna
have this great a chance. It's all in on this year,
which is why you should say, Okay, Trent Williams, what
do you want. We'll figure everything else out after I
(10:37):
don't give a crap what do you want?
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Like you're going.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
All in with all of these guys now, and you're
gonna keep playing chicken with Trent Williams really like it
doesn't make it. You gave ioup the money, you gave everybody,
you paid everybody else. Now, oh no, no, now, you
cannot give money to this guy. Of course you are,
just do it now. I shouldn't say that because I
want them to not play week one against the Jets.
Do it right after week one? No, but seriously, what
Sappy want?
Speaker 3 (10:58):
Why not?
Speaker 1 (10:59):
Hey, you know what, we'll figure everything out at the end,
at the end of the year. Hopefully it's a super
Bowl title for us. We're holding up to Lombardi Trophy
and everything is awesome and and everybody can write their
legacy and most guys are getting paid.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Some guys are gonna go somewhere else.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
But we've won the super Bowl and then we'll figure
everything else out. Like the Niners, they try to. They
take so long to think things out, sometimes right like
they take they're the If they were a chess player,
they'd be some of your playing at chessco. Dude, you
can't take eight minutes to make a move. I don't
want to make the wrong one.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
If the timer hasn't gone off, maybe he waits you out.
You get frustrated, and then you make a bad move
because you've lost your mind.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
They just take so long. They take so long to
make quarterback decisions. They take so long to who's gonna start,
who's gonna get paid?
Speaker 3 (11:44):
How are they gonna week? They take so much. Here's
the analogy that we can use being here in southern California.
Let's go down to the beach and you think about
those tasty waves. Are our buddy Matt and Bunny Smith
from a five to seventy ride the way it's happy
birthday met all that fun, and you can see him
and they look huge, right, but then once they start
getting towards the shore, they're little. That's the way that
(12:05):
the forty nine ers are going to handle this. There's
a giant wave that they have to ride in with
all of these contracts. But then we just could keep
converting them all into signing bonuses and we can smooth
them out for a nice easy landing on the beach
next to you and your dog. You might have named
him decoy. I don't know, Hey decoy, Hey, that's great.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
Look at we're excited now, Nick Bosa, Brandon Ayuk, Deebo, Samuel,
Trent Williams, Javon Hargrave, Fred Warner, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle.
Eight guys making more than fifteen million dollars a year,
eight of them.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
See, and Fred was the guy that was really the
MVP of that whole twenty seventeen trade. Remember when they
fleece the Bears and made fun of him and everything.
Now Fred Warner was the guy that was actually the
big win out of all this forty nine ers.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Sometimes you have to wait a while for the winner,
like we don't have a real winner out.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Just wait to look. But they declared themselves the winner. Yes,
then it took a little bit of time, and now
there's Captain Fred getting after it.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
So this is like this is the year. Like after
this it's done, the Niners are done. They have to
win this year. So you pay Trent Williams, what the
hell speaking of a guy who declares himself the winner. Well,
he doesn't quite do that, but he declares winners of games.
It's Steve de Sager and he's got what's trending in
the wide world of sports.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
And plenty tonight. My goodness, it's a nice college football schedule.
And as you have mentioned, there is a game at
Colorado tonight and it's the Buffs twenty four to twenty
over North Dakota stay with about twelve minutes to go.
The Angels shut out Detroit three to nothing today and
Texas beat the White Sox in Chicago two to one, Nathan,
of all these seven scoreless innings, ten strikeouts getting the win,
(13:48):
the White Sox have lost seven straight back to you.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
Is that the one hundred and fiftieth loss of the
seat for the White Sox.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
Twenty first time this year they've been swept in a series.
Let's go twenty one.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
It's one hundred and four defeats, just for the record,
thirty thirty one and one oh four.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Just wait because now you got the Mets coming to town,
and the Mets are gonna lose two out of three.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
Just what Let's watch work out?
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Thank you, Steve, Exit out bout of Fresca, Exit Swollen Dome.

and North Dakota State, plus a big preview of what
we have tomorrow and Saturday.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Week one of college football is here.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Dion Sanders going to hit the podium, so we'll hear
from him coming up later on this hour. Really can't
wait to see him try to explain throwing the football
in that final possession when all they had to do
is kneel on the football to win the game, and
they almost.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Gave it up. But hey, hey, coach, coach Prime going
to prime?
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Right?
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Is that a thing? You know that I'm going to prime?
Would you know how he should respond? Right? What gen?
Speaker 4 (15:49):
He said?
Speaker 3 (15:49):
What was the spread they were looking to? They were
looking out for their backers. That would be my line.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
I'll tell you, man, I really I have a hard
time believing it was anything other than I wanted to
get you do or another touchdown?
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Like really, like, I don't know why? Why else?
Speaker 1 (16:07):
With a minute a half left to go in North
Dakota State with one time out, you kneel on the ball.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
It's over. Well, he saw and man coverage and thought
he can beat him deep and they almost gave the game.
It would have served them right to lose that game. Well,
I mean, look, six seconds ticked off on a kneel
down play.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Oh man, everything came up Colorado at the end. They
were able to get by that ridiculously bad call by
Dion Sanders. They get a couple that the beneficiaries, a
couple officiating calls that didn't go their way, the way
of North Dakota State. On the final drive that Northcota
State had the ball and their last gasp hail Mary
(16:45):
Is caught at the five yard line but short of
the end zone. So Colorado escapes with a thirty one
to twenty six victory.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
Well, you know he can't blame coach Lewis for that
one this time. No, no, no, not his fault. He
can't depose the offensive coordinator like he did lie lst
year when things went I'm just trying to keep the
kid up right, What do you want from me?
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Look?
Speaker 3 (17:04):
Look, the offense was fine. There's so much fund it
was great, right, weighing around four forty five through the air,
he had one hundred and ninety eight for one receive
or one hundred and thirty two for another. And he
tried to get that third hundred yard guy, you did,
I saw what you did.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
We're we're back. No, no, no, come on. He wasn't
trying to get that third hoarding. He's trying to get
his son over five hundred yards pass.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
No, no, but he got that kid to transfer him for
some glory though, and all he came up with was
five for fifty eight. No, that ain't moving at il money.
I get that that's happening.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
This is his son. We want to get you over
five hundred yards passing. Want to put you in front
of the Heisman run. Although it's tough because it looks
like Travis Hunder may be in front of you.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
You ain't time. We want to right now. We want
to get you that right now.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
Shit, Hunter, well look, let's let's talk about because there's
two big takeaways.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
From this game. He's like, this is crazy and there's
a lot to put in perspective.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
The talent of Travis Hunter and Shador Sanders is incredible.
The amount of trouble that Colorado football is already in
this year as far as wins and losses, they're already
in trouble. Both things can be true. Okay, but you
can have incredible nights and talented players and your team
look like they're in a lot of trouble. Both things
(18:22):
can be true. Let's deal with the second one first.
For Colorado, this is a win that feels like a
loss because yes, you look like you may own September again.
The interest level in Colorado is bigger than any other school.
It's everywhere on social media tonight it's kaboot. Everybody is
talking about tomorrow. Deon Sanders has found a way to
(18:42):
own September. But if you don't win games, what's going
to happen? You fall out of that conversation fast. Deon
Sanders could be as entertaining as anybody in the world.
We can love hearing him talk. Find out what writers
he's going to ban from asking questions, and that's fine.
But when you're four and six, four and seven, when
you're well, when you're four and two, that's it. I mean,
(19:04):
even with the extra playoff spots this year, you're done.
You could be entertained. College football, we do not suffer
if you're not good. Right in the NFL, we do
if you're not good, you're underachieving, something is happening. Hey,
you should be five and two, but you're two and five.
A we will suffer you and go through because you
never know how things can go. Once you lose a
couple of games in college football, you're done, like you
(19:24):
fall out of that conversation.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
For the rest of the year, like it's over.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
And that's why tonight the win feels like a loss
because here's Colorado, double digit favorite at home coming into
the game.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
They're opening up against an FCS team. Yes, it's a
good FCS.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Team, but one hundred and thirty teams in Division one
and FBS are gonna say, oh, you're giving me a
home opener against an FCS team. It'll count towards a
bowl game. Yeah, great, Yeah, I'll sign up for that.
And they were barely able to escape. And what does
that tell you about what kind of year they're gonna
have where they're ready overall? How good their defense is.
What does that tell you?
Speaker 3 (19:58):
Yeah, but that's like buying the blind box thing, like say, say,
baseball cards, right, a repack and then you get the
absolute last worst thing you don't want to see nor
to go to state? Was the last of those schools?
Oh wait, the one that wins every year? Yeah, I
don't know. I don't know that a lot of teams
would sign up for that.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Uh No, I think still it's an FCS team. I
think it signed up for it. I think you signed
up for it. I think would they rather open up
at home against Colorado State? No, you don't want that.
You want to open up at home against Nebraska? No?
Speaker 3 (20:29):
You don't want that. Oh yeah, sure, sure, yeah, that's
for sure Nebraska for the first time in like two decades.
But yeah, you want to open up at home against Northwestern?
What do you want? I mean, what do you gat?
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (20:40):
After last year? I mean, I still have a lot
of problems with the way the administration's handled the things.
There's lawsuits everywhere, but it looks like they got a
new a d Well, come man, we.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Got lawsuits everywhere, But this is a this is a
This is a game that feels like a loss because
suddenly all the good feeling, everything you had getting out
this year is going to be different. We fixed the
offensive line, we got Warren Sap in coaching the defense,
and clearly Warren Sapp should be playing instead of coaching
on the side. Yeah, you know, look that they have
the vibe back because they're one to zero and things
(21:11):
sound great and near rock stars, But really.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
Have you fixed anything?
Speaker 1 (21:16):
I feel like I'm seeing the same team as a
year ago, and you know they feel the same way.
Should not have been this close. This is not how
and I know that's how Deon's gonna be with the team.
Should not have been this close.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
We won.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
I can't believe this happened to us. I can't believe
this now. Whether or not he takes any responsibility, that's
a different thing, but that but that's a that's a
huge concern. That's why this is a win that kind
of feels like a loss. You want it if you're Colorado,
to show this year is going to be different and
we are different. This should have been a forty five
seventeen win. This should have been we got out big
in the first half and Travis Hunter doesn't have to
(21:46):
play every minute of every play in the game and
should or doesn't have to throw the ball thirty five
times for four and fifty yards and four touchdowns. This
should be a game we controlled. We should have been
able to run the ball a little bit more. But
it doesn't matter. I mean, you should have been able
to have the and do what you wanted against this team,
and you didn't and you wound up escaping. This wasn't
even a win where I could say, hey, things, eh,
(22:07):
you know they got it going later. Okay, it took
them a little bit, they looked rusty. No, this was
an escape week one against an FCS team. Like Yeah,
some wins feel like losses.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
That's this one. Yeah, but an FCS team that came
in and ran for one hundred and fifty seven yards.
They stayed true to their identity and that what was
the big knock on Colorado a year ago. Toughness and
depth on the offensive and defensive line. Guess what you
gotta run over again? That's not surprising coming into this game.
That's what I mean. It's a win that feels like
a line.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
No.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
I'm trying to tell you though. Again, they're a pretty
good squad. This is not a cream puff situation like
we see for a lot of teams, you know in
week one of a season, or if you're in the
SEC the warm up before your rivalry game. This is
not what that is at all. I just took the SEC. Yeah,
you schedule and made fun. You have two guys that
(22:59):
are going in the top three of the draft and
it's a fan Yeah, but you can't clone them escaped.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
I think you can. You've cloned Travis Hunter. He plays
offensive defense. Come on now, don't tell me you can't.
He plays both ups.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
By week seven, he's gonna be tripping over his tongue. Okay,
as you step up in class, But this was a
good test. You succeed and proceed. Yeah, you didn't cover
the ten and a half you tried. You tried with
that first down bomb did not work. And then your
run game, well you ran for fifty nine yards. You
know what. That's not gonna cut it. That's not gonna
(23:31):
get it done as much fun. And I agree with
all of our colleagues in our sports media world, the
friends of the show. Pete Futeckle join us here in
a few minutes. In the end, I'm still grabbing my popcorn.
I'll watch this offense go every day of the week.
Are you kidding me? That's about as entertaining as a get.
Are they gonna make some missteps all over the place?
Hell yeah. Are they gonna potentially leave games in the balance?
(23:54):
Damn right they are. Let's go. I'm here for it.
But this is supposed to be better. This is supposed
to be an exhibit. Hey, time of possession was thirty
six plus first for North Dakota State.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Pal all right, baby waved up five hundred yards of offen.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
They almost had another touchdown if he hadn't played dodgeball
and hitting the guy in the leg. You're proving my
point that this was supposed to be better for Colorado.
They won. It was nah, plus ten and a half
all day, every day over fifty five. Let's go didn't
cover either. So that's what I mean part of it too. No,
I said plus ten and a half, not minus ten
(24:33):
and a half. I was on the other side. But
Dion with that bomb was telling you exactly where he was.
I want my kid getting the touchdown. I want five
hundred yards, and I want everybody that leaned into us
and backed us, maybe with a fiver or a tenor
or maybe their lunch money for the week or their
their bar money. I wanted to back them too. He
(24:55):
failed in that regard, but they got the w. Now,
the good part of it, Okay, a win seems like okay,
But here's a good part. And I don't know that.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
I don't know what kind of year a quarterback is
going to have to have for at the end of
it for a team to say, yes, we're going to
take a quarterback. Carson Beck clearly might be the best quarterback.
Shador Sanders might be the number one pick in the draft.
These guys are already talking about going one too. Uh No,
I'm taking Travis Hunter, Travis.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
I don't know what kind. Now I gotta watch Travis
Hunter in my division. Yeah, cover that, Sauce, Great, thanks
a lot.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
Yeah, well, okay, at least what I will have to
pay Sauce before that a man unbelown Thanks for that.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
But it was feeling so good up until a couple
of See, all of a sudden you had images of
Revas in your head.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
Have to worry about that? Yeah great, Now Sauce is
gonna have to go cover Travis Hunter. So I mean
he I don't know what to say about the kid.
I really don't. Being able to play every snap on
offense and defense and being able to dominate from beginning
to end. His third touchdown of the game was an
unreal effort in body control and concentration. That is the
(26:09):
last play I needed to see from h. If I'm
an NFL evaluator, I see tonight's game, I go, I
saw that. That's the cherry on top of the Sunday.
I'm taking him number one overall. That's such an unreal
catch he makes, falling out of bounds, reaching back in
front of the defensive back, grabbing the ball with both
hands for his third touchdown of the night. He's absolutely
(26:30):
unbelievably dominant. Seven catches for one thirty two and three touchdowns.
Again every snap on defense, and it didn't look like
he was really winded either way. Right, Like, he's almost
going to be like coming into the NFL, he's almost
gonna kind of be like Sho Heyo Tani, where if
you like, if he can come in as a wide
receiver and play wide receiver and when you need him,
(26:53):
he could play some defensive back. Like, not gonna play
all the time, but when when you need obvious passing
downs or you're in you're in a Nickel sitcha or
something like that, can you get him on the field,
he'll and he'll be great for you defensively. Yeah, Like
I can see a team saying that's what he does,
we're gonna use him. Obviously, he's not gonna play every
play on both sides of the ball. You can't do
that in the NFL. But yeah, we'll pick our spots
(27:15):
and he could change and he could change the game,
just like show Hey did playing every snap offense. I look,
they'll get him in and out, They'll get him a
little bit of rest here and there. Hey, we have
the ball, we're in our formative offense or under two
minutes the end of the first half, we're just gonna
run the football, go to halftime. You don't need to
play on these We'll find some time defensively. But I
can see that for him, he's going to be that good.
(27:35):
I don't know what kind of year quarterbacks gotta have
for me to say I'm taking them over Travis Hunter.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
But Travis Hunter is the guy.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
And again we'll look at and compare it to being
like show hey, o Tani being able to pitch and play.
Where Hunter's gonna be ale to play offense and defense,
well not just like a Coupleay, he'll be able to play. Hey,
here's Travis Hunter. Seventy four snaps on offense, you know,
thirty two snaps on defense.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
Whatever, it is, an insane number. Yeah, I'm feeling good.
Feeling good. I only pay one hundred and ten snaps.
That was light. It was a light day for me.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
You know, usually play like one hundred and forty hundred
and fifty, but say it was only one tense I
feel pretty good.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
Yeah, did just got to see what kind of attrition
you have, uh to keep these guys upright. Sanders does
a pretty good job of dancing out of trouble. But
for Travis Hunter, is this sustainable in this schedule? And
I know the PAC twelve was a lot better last
year than I think anybody could have anticipated, and he
got through that mostly unscathed. H Can he do it again?
(28:32):
I don't know, But I'm also in Operation shutdown. I'm
number one overall. The offers start at dot dot dot.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
I mean, I'm really he can play an ample number
of defensive snaps in the game. I really he could,
he could be he had have that kind of impact
on the NFL. I know, watching his interview after after
the Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
I'm good.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
I'm feeling great. Yeah no, yeah, hey, thanks a lot,
guys appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
We Adrenaline's a fun thing. Yeah, I mean look but yeah,
I mean you make the show ache parents. I mean
for football. I mean go back to Dion himself and
what he wanted to do and tried to do Woodson
to a lasser degree, not in the necessarily in the NFL.
Who else can we do? Yeah? Yeah, either way, it's
fun to watch. Man, It's a great theater. A week
(29:16):
after week.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
It is really something man, I'm telling you. I mean,
what this kid can do is unreal. If i'm him,
I say, hey, Coach Prime, appreciate it, but I'm done
this season.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
I don't want to get hurt. I'm gonna be the
number one pick in the draft. You're the reason I
came back. I don't need I don't need to. Yeah.
I know, listen, I know you like me. I know
everything is great and I know you. Yeah, I know
you say I'm kind of like your son. I get it.
But yeah, no, no, no, I'm not playing anymore. I'm not
ruining this because I'm going number one overall. By the way,
Shudur asked me to tell you he's out too.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
Yeah, he said he'll text you later.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
Okay, thanks, Coach Prime, Sealater, I'm gonna go. Do you
think he calls him Coach Prime or Dad or go
back to the Lebron thing the other day? Oh?
Speaker 1 (29:56):
I think he just calls him whatever. At this point,
you call him whatever you want to jas, I'm sir,
what's up, dude?
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Hey, what's up? Travis? All right? Great? See you? Oh
I met Shador. What do you think he calls him? Oh?
Speaker 1 (30:07):
No, I think he calls him Dad, he calls him
maybe coach Dad, Coach Dad Prime, Coach Prime Dad Dad,
coach Prime.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Nice. Yeah, I wrapped up for this big weekend, right
week one of our college football season. You know how
I'm are ramping up. I've been watching old episodes of Coach,
the Screaming Eagles getting at their dam and the whole dabber,
and then I go watch SpongeBob for a while because.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
I can't get rid of that voice when they get
Bo Whitley and suddenly they make a big run at
the national title.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Sure, sure, be sure to catch live editions of The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
Dak Prescott today got about as mad as I've ever
really heard Dak Prescott, which is not at all, but
for Dak, like this is like mad for Dak what
we heard every time we've talked about his contract. When
he talks about a game, a loss, he is always
very measured. He is always much very much the professional,
and you never see too much of a of a
(31:08):
yin or yang for him emotion wise, Like he know
he knows how to play it. He knows how to
how to deal with wins and losses.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
He gets it.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
But this is about as mad as I've ever heard
him talking today about the fact that whether or not
he gets his contract extension by the beginning of the
season says a lot like If he gets it, it means, Hey,
the Cowboys love me. If I don't get it, it
means they don't like me, and then we have a
problem here.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
He was talking about it today, as I.
Speaker 6 (31:38):
Said, well, back in camp, it's too It's two parts
of this. Both SATs have to come to the grooment.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
You don't need a deal done before the season.
Speaker 6 (31:44):
Uh, I don't need to know, No, do what you
like it done before the season. I think it says
a lot if it is or if it isn't. But however,
it doesn't doesn't really matter to me, to be honest
with what does If it isn't, it just how people feel.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
So what he's saying is, if you don't sign me
by the beginning of the season, this shows me how
you feel about me as a quarterback. And this is
as mad as or as much of a line in
the sand that I've seen Dak Prescott ever talk about
when it comes to his contract. And the crazy thing
about it is, I know that that I I understood
(32:18):
that Venom Jerry Jones kind of gave in for CD.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
Lamb.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
You know the new Jerry Jones when Venom took over
in the off season, saying now I'm not gonna pay anybody,
and I'm all in on this season.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
Well, you know, Eddie.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
Brock took over Jerry Jones's body and day they got
money for CD. Now I was supposed to be these negotiations.
Well sorry, but had you leave a little bit Venom.
You had to go take care of some stuff in
San Francisco, so I was able to get rid of
you for a little bit. Now I paid paid CD,
but Jerry I didn't get to eat it at all. No, no,
no money. Now I'm gonna go give the money to
(32:51):
Dak Prescott. Jerry until the end of the season. What
he did in the playoffs the last two years worst
players gave.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
A perfect back waiting to love.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
You can't do that.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
You have to let me eat his head. All right, Well,
maybe maybe maybe I just won't sign him for a
little bit. Oh that's my Jerry talking. And wait, who's
any who's that. I mean Jerry Jerry.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
Like Venom Jerry Jones, I feel really confident is gonna
be there throughout for Dak Prescott and he is not
going to get paid until the season is over. And
he has proven to Jerry Jones that he is worthy
of getting sixty million dollars a year. And by that
I mean a deep playoff run where Dak Prescott plays well.
(33:34):
I know that I took hey, okay, Venom Jerry Jones
took off for a bit and then Jerry and old
Jerry came back to give Ceedee Lamb money.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
But I really I'm doubling down.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Venom Jerry Jones is gonna stop Jerry from paying Dak Prescott.
And it's gonna be a crazy story all year long,
and it's gonna be both sides it at Loggerheads, and
at the end of the year, Dak's gonna be pissed
and someone's gonna swoop in and pay him sixty million.
Like this is not going to happen for Dak Prescott
beginning of the season.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
It's just not. I stopped honestly listening to things he
says to the media a long time ago. It really
doesn't hold weight with me. That was the money money
quote for Dak Prescott for me out of all of
this stuff. Yeah, and the deary Jones venom thing for
those unawares, big deal. The other night came organically and
(34:22):
really took on a life of its own, much like
the symbiote. So you got to check out the podcast
wherever you download your audio. But yeah, now we're at
the point where you'd never let him see you sweat.
Dak Press got sweating a little bit, and for no
other reason, he knows he's got to go out and
play a full season before the contract comes. That's an
awful lot of snaps. Right, we're talking about Shador Sanders, right,
(34:45):
he just scrambled, he got hit, and he got up
and he got into the defender's face like you went
back into traffic and got hit. Dak's gonna have that
a lot behind to reconfigure Dallas offensive line this year.
And I know the Giants and maybe some of the
other teams on schedule don't quite have the teeth. See
what I did there, simmeyo teeth. Yeah, So all of
(35:06):
that to say, uh, yeah, that's that's the thing he's
most frustrated about yes, he'd he's back, and that's all
fine and good, but recognizing that you've now got to
go through a seventeen game slate. Plus not that you're
crying poor because you're still making a good salary this year,
but this is something you'd like to be resolved. It's
all about getting your respect and love and recognizing that
(35:28):
something that has never happened. Jerry Jones still appears to
be taking the hard line with you, where he's literally
gone to other countries to find players before one of
whom is your teammate again, do.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
You think you think Dak with a camerack goes off
and he goes home, and he just vents, he goes
he paid everybody else for twenty five years. Me, he's
gotta draw the line up.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
He's got a sound proof raw somewhere. He goes, I
wasn't the one giving up all those points in the
first half. I didn't give Jordan Love that at one
fifty eight point three.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
He's paid everybody else, guys that even didn't deserve it,
and he's drawn.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
The line on me that's not paid running backs, running
back that ain't getting paid in boy is this season
gonna be something,
