You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Greetings and welcome inside. Happy Friday, The Jason Smith Show
with my bes friend Mike Harmon. It's an optimistic Friday.
Look at your opponent man Live from the Tirack dot
Com Studios Tirac dot Com. I'll hope you get there.
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirac dot Com is
(00:51):
the way tire buying should be. Well. Yes, sometimes best
friends have to battle. Bottom of the sixth inning. In
Show Cargo, Mets lead the White Sox four to one.
Tyler McGill, who has gotten a grand total of four
batters out this season for the Mets, somehow was into
(01:12):
the sixth inning ninety seven pitches and right now in
line for victory. Is he any relation to slipping Jimmy,
slipping j I don't think no more slipping Jimmy, Chuck. Okay,
I'm telling you, no more slipping Jimmy. It's done. It's over.
And all we did was get slipping Jimmy for the
next five seasons.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Yeah, I mean, all I've done is I've already moved
forward that game. You know, I was watching the WNBA game.
I'm sitting there watching this terrible Michigan State game.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Oh yeah, just terrible. Where the quarterback he's getting hitting
ahead every single play.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
It is a man sixteen to ten hit way through
the fourth quarter, just to slog fast. So I said,
all right, let's look at the time, said an alarm.
It's like, all right, go take a shower. It's college
colors day. Right. We talked to our guy rahiem Mostered
a couple of weeks ago. I've advanced a narrative. Northwestern Miami,
Ohio tomorrow, Wildcats minus three in the makeshift stadium by
(02:13):
the lake.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Let's go and just remember this Michigan State Florida Atlantic game.
Right now. The over is forty four and a half points.
And if you remember, it was a pretty big story.
A week ago, when Michigan State quarterback Aiden Child said
in his interview leading up to game, what take the over? Yeah?
(02:34):
Take the over right? What times? Yeah? Take the over?
Take right now. It's sixteen to ten with seven minutes
ago in the fourth quarter. I'm feeling pretty good about
taking the under. If I took that, I feel pretty
good about that.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
This game has been just a log and look, it's
been shippy on both sides. We'll get to the sky
and the fever in a minute, but you've had a
couple of let's look at each other official wise to
decide whether we need to look at for targeting. We've
had a couple of monster hits where you're just hoping
(03:06):
the guy gets back up. I mean, it's been a
strange game for a week one in that respect, but
also just not much in the way of offense, uh whatsoever.
So yeah, it's uh we're off to a weird start
on a week one.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Yeah. So again, Now, people not to listen to when
they tell you take the over. Michigan State quarterback Aiden Chiles,
I do not listen. He is a he is he
is what it's called a bad handicapper. Okay, because I
don't see this getting to forty four because of the
way the score is. So, I mean, it's he's a
bad handicapper. Don't listen to him, you do you think
(03:44):
he had it the other way? So the odds got
depressed there, maybe a little longer on the under, yeah,
maybe a little bit. Or maybe he kept saying to you,
re over, so everybody would bet the over. And then
he knew people that were gonna bet the other. The
odds one way, Sure coming back here? Wow, we allegedly
allegedly allegedly sure Sure Entertainment. He's the guy that opened
(04:06):
the door. He's the guy that said take the over man.
No one, no one made him say that he did.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
He held the door open and said come on ine.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
But we'll have more on college football coming up later
on this hour. Mike and I give you our very
first bit of upset special picks for Week one in
college football. But on a college football night where you
have some fun stuff going on. No bigger story than
the thirty seventh meeting this season between the Indiana Fever
and the Chicago Sky It's on the fourth. No, I
(04:40):
think it's way more than that. I gotta lookin every
other game is the Fever in the Sky. No, that's right.
This game look not a game. It was so much
fun to watch and there's so many great takeaways from this.
There's a reason why this game is the top five
topics right now on social media. Caitlin Clark and the
Fever Thump the Sky one hundred and eighty one. They
(05:01):
were up big at halftime, they got up big into
the fourth quarter. They never let the Sky back in it.
Caitlin Clark thirty one points, twelve assists, four rebounds. She
was five out of nine from three point range. Angel
Rees did have a double double ten points, eleven rebounds,
shot four and a nine, but her last few points
and couple of rebounds came with the Sky down twenty.
(05:23):
Should she have even been in the game, of course,
you know she was in particularly today, right. We did
get at the double with Shador Sanders.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
And remember what I theorized that he was looking to
get his man his one hundred yards right, looking for
that big play. And what did deonce after the game,
Oh yeah, he was trying to get his guta. Yeah,
and he was trying to get to five hundred yards.
But same thing here. I mean, this is clearly just
a stat hunting expedition.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Yes, you know, an another double double for her, But look,
you know she's in the game. You're down twenty six, right,
your best players out there. And of course, how many
shots did she get at the end to get there?
They feeder a couple of shots. She took a couple
of shots to get there. Look, right now, let's be honest.
The Rookie of the Year race is over. I think
that'll do it. Like when Viper tells Maverick when when
(06:10):
the guy's yelling because Maverick did the fly by, and
he's yelling, going, I want some butts. I spilled coffee.
I want some butts, and he's screaming, and and Viper
walks out and says, I think that'll just about cover
the flybys. Like I think I feel like that way
saying you watched this game, I think that covers the
Rookie of yaegar.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Would you like me to tell you what the I
think that your odds are. Yeah, and I'm really glad
that they got some engagement. I know you want to
be spicy on your TV show screaming, but minus three thousand,
wow reez fifteen to one, it's it's the fact that
(06:47):
it's back on the boards is laughable. We talked to
Todd Furmany about it last night. You asked him because
I had brought it up because I looked for him
the other day before the Fever's last game, and there
were a couple that just didn't even have him on
the board anymore. And that's what you're seeing. I appreciate debate, right,
embrace debate. Let's scream at each other about stuff and
(07:10):
try to find some happy middle unless we don't or
jump to each end of the spectrum. And this there
is no argument. There's no reasonable rational human being, no
matter what kind of fictitious statistic ESPN creates for this,
that you can make the argument for Angel Reese.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Yeah, I know, right. Like when I read that, because
I was making the rounds today, was hey, ESPN actually
has Angel Reese ahead of Kate len Clark, I'm like, okay,
how I mean, obviously it's just for a hot take purposes,
because look, Angel Reese is a great rebounder. It's what
she does, right. She came tonight wearing a Rodman jersey. Congratulations,
we told you about that. Yeah, Hey, I wish we
could monetize that because we're the ones that said that
(07:52):
first a couple of weeks ago, and now people are
jumping on it. Okay, great, she's Dennis Rodman. Yeah, she's
Dennis Robin because she can't make any shots. She's not
she's not good on the floor. She is a phenomenal rebounder.
But again, that's what she does, right, Like Katelyn Clark
even said it at the WNBA All Star Game, which
which was a compliment. But I think Caitlyn Clark is
really self aware. She understands what she says when she does.
(08:14):
When she said, oh, Angelice is gonna lead the All
Star Game in rebounding, it's what she does. And that's
a great compliment, Like, hey, I think this is coming
coming in gonna lead. But when you say she's lead
rebound that's what she does. Like, that's her game. Her
game is rebounding, and that really is She does it,
really and she does a great job at it. But
when I sit here and watch a game and see
the announcers talking and going wow, it's so hard to
compare two players playing different positions, I'm like, are you
(08:37):
kidding me? The impact? Forget about the fact forget about
the popularity of Caitlin Clark coming in. You really think
the impact of what Caitlyn Clark is having on the
Indiana Fever and angel Rees are the same, They're not.
They're not even close. Right. In fact, this is where
you're at right now. You want something that sounds like
a hot take, I'll tell you what. There's eight games,
eight or so games left the WNBA season, the Fever
(08:59):
start one and eight haw many of the playoffs in
eight years here now they are at five hundred and
they're they're pretty much going and nobody wants to play them.
And now, not only is Caitlyn Clark terrific, but she's
got everybody else working on that team, and Mitchell is
great and Boston. Right now, it's a two person race
for WNBA MVP, and it's Asia Wilson and it's Caitlyn Clark.
And it's closer than you think. I'm not saying she's
(09:22):
past Asian Wilson. Asia Wilson's a phenomenal player. She is
the best player in the she's the best player in
the league. But you're talking about MVP, which is which
is an award for what did you do to help
your team. It's not Player of the Year, right MV.
Everybody confuses that Player of the year an MVP is
not the same thing. Right, You are the best player
in the game. You're not always the MVP because a
(09:42):
team can stink without you, right, that could happen. It's
what do you do? Most valuable players? Who is raising
their team up the higher level? And there's a huge
argument you can make that what Angel Reese is doing,
her value this year to the fever is a bigger value.
Doesn't mean she's a better player right now than Asia Wilson.
But MVP, Yeah, this is a closer race than you think.
(10:03):
And it's really between these two four it when you
look at what they've both accomplished.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Yeah, and I think when we get down to it,
you know, going back to the original point for a second,
is it takes nothing away from what Angel Reese is
as a player. It's talking about total impact and I
know we can go into some of the plus minus
and what they do when she's on the bench, et cetera.
But you look at what Clark does moving the ball,
(10:31):
forget about that. You know, we talk turnovers and assist
we start getting into fights as to how many should
have been handled versus you know, lazy behind the back
passes like she had today. It's like, you're not helping
your stat line, Caitlin, you know. And then the announcers
even go, well, you're up this bit, you can screw around.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
She's feeling it, man, She's throwing those behind the back
passes and she said, well and look, and I think
that's probably why the sky got frustrated. You saw some
really hard foul against her in the final seven admitutes.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Did Deshields get the code red from Witherspoon.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
I don't know. Three fouls in a row from Diamond Deshields,
two on Caitlyn Clark on inbounds plays and then the
bad one that she got a flagrant on when she
just ran tried to run her over in the middle
of the floor after a turnover. They turned into a
flagrant like that was a great At that point, it's like, okay,
you know what, it's time for you to leave the game. Yes,
it's yeah, You've got a great game. And now you're
(11:28):
throwing behind the back passes up twenty five, which I'm
sure is not playing well for Chicago. And I get it.
I completely understand your show won't like that up twenty
points in our house. Really you're so I get it.
That's an on the floor thing, and this is Chicago
being pissed off at it. But the right thing was done,
the right fouls were called, and Chrissy Signs did a
great job saying, okay, four minutes were up, twenty five, Caitlyn,
(11:50):
come out of the game. Come out of the Game's
time to come out of the game because now it's
just gonna be chippy, and of course she can't resistant.
So she comes off the floor and she's hyping up
the crowd. And you heard the crowd was half Caitlin Clark.
This wasn't everybody booing her. It's at least half Caitlin
Clark people cheering.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Yeah, but it's not that far a drive from Indiana
to uh it's it's it's a nice hop on the
little little freeway and away we go.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
H on the Skyway.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
But uh yeah, it's again, take nothing away from what
Angel Reese is. It's just seems to me there there's
the obvious gap the betting odds are telling you, so
you know, making any other argument right now, it's just
uh fighting windmills and wasting time, so giving it any
oxygen uh is foolhardy. They did play without Kennedy Carter
(12:39):
uh today. She was in protocols so it was unavailable.
So you know you've got that, you know when you
try to inform the matchup itself, but blowout City uh
and in the final minutes, it was just a academic
of how quickly does it end? Angel Reese gets your
double double celebrated added to him in you can't take
(12:59):
it out of the the box score. But you know,
you always hang a star on things like that when
it's you know, stat padding in that in that kind
of fashion. But for Caitlyn Clark and the Fever, after
a rough start to the season, we talked about the schedule,
we talked about trying to gel and coming in as
as she was. They're a dangerous squad right now and
(13:21):
they'll make up some ground. Right The Aces aren't running
away with it. They're not even in first place as
it stands right now. So the potential to make that
argument on Asia Wilson is certainly there if they can
finish the season strongly.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
Telling you thatd Caitlin Clark, Asia Wilson it's that's the
new conversation. Rookie of the Year is not. And I
don't know whatever you know because I remember because I
started a couple of seconds ago. But I like looking
at the ESPN, going what kind of metric do they
have Angel Reese over Caitlyn Clark and I started to
read what it was, and it was taking this you know,
(13:56):
X seven to three technique and playing it off with
a p F four and I'm going, oh my god,
this is all just made up stuff. I like, what
is like they're trying to say, we have a scientific
situation that that that actually evaluates every single thing a
player does with the basketball to tell you how valuable
they are. I'm like, I don't even knowbody of this
stuff is real, Like what? And of course it's behind
(14:17):
the pay walls. I'm like, I'm not paying for that.
Go on, what are you kidding me? At least tell me, hey,
these are some people who have been watching and are
telling me. Because there's no metric, you could tell me
that Angel Reese, who shoots three for fifteen every night, yes,
pulls down to again phenomenal rebounder. She is such a talent,
She's incredibly popular. But you can't sit here and say, yeah,
(14:37):
they both have about the same impact. No, it's not
the case, it's not the name. I enjoy the.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
Hell out of her, There's no question about it.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
She's fun to watch. And they get the Reese's pieces,
you get the Angel Recis pieces.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Yeternay, I was debating getting the jersey, but I thought
the orange was a bit ostentatious.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Or now purple hang ons. I will say that, you
know where did I go to college? Orange is of
very difficult color to pull off. It is it's really hard.
Orange is up. You start looking like I think it
is a tough color, Like I know all the Syracuse
stuff I get. I gotta go. I gotta get it
with the orange accents. Like it took me a long
time to go look at this great orange sweatshirt. Then
(15:15):
I see a picture of it and I'm like, oh
my god, all I can see is me that's orange
sweat You forget you wear this thing? Oh so now
I gotta get the blue with the orange accents, because
that's really what does it?
Speaker 3 (15:25):
You know, just slippers? Otherwise you look like I know
the orange it is and it's just it's a bad move.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
It is a tough color. It really well, but I
mean it keeps you honest.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
You know, when you go back to the trough, I
think because orange is not the is not the color.
I'm not saying for you, I'm just saying in general,
that's a tough one.
Speaker 1 (15:42):

Tiraq dot com is the way tire buying should be.
So again, we'll have an update on Clayton Kershaw following
the Dodgers game toe injury. He leaves the game and
the second inning for the Dodgers tonight. Couldn't really push
off the man, which would explain is eighty seven mile
an hour fastball and sixty seven mile an hour curveball.
(18:28):
So again we'll have more on that because this is
a huge deal for both the Dodgers and he and
it's it's so many things. It's the Dodgers rest of
the season, in playoffs, it's the postseason. It's Clayton Kershaw's career.
It's coming back from so many injuries. Will he be
able to come back from this one? We're in the
beginning of September. Have we seen him throw his last pitch?
(18:48):
There's a lot to deal with here, and the Dodgers
right now with a five to four lead over Arizona,
we have gonna have to wait a few innings for that,
so so be a little patient. But I'm sure we'll
get it before we get off the air tonight. Sure
have that tonight.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
No, I mean the game will end, assuming Joe Kelly
can get out of the inning and all that kind
of stuff, and away you go, and look, you go
to the pen that early.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Like.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
That's the one thing is we've watched the Dodgers up
close and personal in southern California. Is the number of
nights that by the end of the fourth inning we're
already into either the second or third arm coming out
of the pen leaves you nervous for the month of September.
But the fact that it's a toe injury, because right,
(19:31):
I mean, we talked about his disposition and coming up,
wasn't you know, holding his shoulder, wasn't no elbow or
any of that. So I was like, all right, what happened.
It's toe injury. Can't get a push, so take care
of your feet.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
People. Again, we'll have more on that coming up in
a bit, but right now, you know, waiting to hear
more on Clayton Cursier the Dodgers saying it is a
toe injury.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
Now.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Meanwhile, speaking of injuries, right, we had a couple of
big NFL reports today and one of the biggest week
it said for the first game of the year next week,
the Kansas City chief is gonna be without Hollywood Brown, Right,
one of the big signings of the offseason. Hey here, Hey,
the Chiefs continued every year just replace wide receivers. It's
like they get a new five guys every year. These
are our five guys last year, these are our five
(20:16):
guys last day. And good by getting five guys in exit.
And you know, and the thing is, I'm not the
biggest fan of five guy. I haven't been to one
in years. I'm not the biggest fan like I could
be sold.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
I mean, I guess I don't know they want to talk,
but you know.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Okay, no, I've got he Look there's all Hey, you
want to sell me? I'm great?
Speaker 3 (20:35):
Hey all right, No, no, no, if they want to
partner with us here at Fox Sports Radio. I mean,
I'm not disparaging it. I'm just saying it's just not
been the kids thing and they usually choose.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
But Marquise Brown, Hollywood Brown not gonna be back this week,
Andy Reid saying it today, We're gonna have to see
how it goes from there. He's made incredible progress, but
I wouldn't predict him being there this week. Brown, of course,
dislocated his shoulder on the Chiefs first offensive play of
the preseason. Look it, it didn't look like they were
gonna have him, So now this is gonna be Hey,
(21:10):
what are we going to get from Xavier Worthy, the
first round pick right Raschi Rece who was there leading
wide receiver last year and is still playing after all
the stuff that happened this summer? What about Juju Smith Schuster?
How fast will he wind up getting back in considering
he played with Mahomes and might be an easier slide
back into the system. Yes, you'd love to have Hollywood Brown, right,
(21:32):
you'd love to have him because when you see the
Chiefs adding receivers, you say, wow, this guy's a good talent,
and he's young, and he's fast, and he's someone that
can really blossom with the downfield passing attack of the Chiefs.
But let me just tell you this, he's a good player. Right.
The Chiefs have had wide receivers, they've had good receivers,
only a couple, and they've had a lot of Jags,
(21:54):
And Hollywood Brown is sidlent. This is not a Hollywood
Brown thing. But honestly, hasn't Patrick Mahon shown us that
it's irrelevant who plays wide receiver for them? I mean really,
I mean we think about, oh, Mahomes are gonna have
this great wide receiver. It's irrelevant the guy wins Super
Bowls when he has a star receiver, and Tyreek Hill
when he doesn't have a star receiver. When the guys
(22:15):
from the Super Bowl last year none of them are
on the team anymore. You know, it's only Travis Kelcey
coming off a down year. Like the top three wide
receivers now none of them are back, you know, except
for and Roschie Rice worked his way in to become
one of the top receivers over the course of the season.
But really it's irrelevant, Pat, And this is really just
to understand how great Patrick Mahomes is is that last
(22:39):
year was probably the most impressive season he has had.
Not the best. We talked about this a little bit
the other night, not the best. Certainly he's had better
seasons with stats, better seasons, you know, with yardage than
he did last year. And look, anybody who had him
in fantasy last year is going, man, Mahomes is killing me.
But at the end, what happened? They won the Super Bowl?
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Yeah, yeah, I bench him for a good chunk in
your fantasy season. As much as that psychologically scarred you.
At that point, it was I'm not getting three hundred
and three each week.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
This is painful. I gotta sit Mahomes. Why because he's
killing me? Right, things you never thought you would say.
But it doesn't matter. And this is why last year
was so impressive, because they were able to win the
Super Bowl in a year where they really shouldn't have won.
This was not a great Chiefs team last year, right,
Isaiah Pacheco, Hey, he was a nice running back. Was
(23:30):
he unbelievable? No, he was a nice fine he ran hard,
and he certainly had games where where he played pretty well.
But this is not a guy that you're going crazy
for saying, oh my god, this guy is unbelievable. And
you look at the wide receivers after Rashi Rice, who
caught seventy nine passes the next time and receptions was
twenty seven. Was Justin Watson. You had Justin Watson and
(23:50):
Valdas Scantling and Sky Moore and Kadarius Tony and all
these guys are catching catching twenty five, twenty seven, twenty
eight passes, Like it doesn't matter who catches passes for
the Chiefs. That's how good Mahomes is and why last
year was so impressive because they won the Super Bowl
and he really had hardly any threats to throw to.
(24:10):
Like we look at, hey, Aaron Rodgers is gonna be
great this year. Why hey, Garrett Wilson one of the
top five receivers in the NFL. Mike Williams is back,
He'll be ready for Week one coming off the ACL entry.
They drafted Malak high Court. Oh look at all these weapons, Mahomes.
It's yeah, whatever just let me know who's out there.
That's fine, just so I know I can call their
name when I tell them what they're doing wrong. Right, Hey,
give me more of a dig on that. Yeah, you know,
(24:32):
get into your break a little bit sooner on that.
It really doesn't matter. That's the real genius of how
great Patrick Mahomes is. He can make it work with anyone.
He can make anyone better, and we've seen some of
the great quarterbacks do it over the course of their career.
Tom Brady was great with great receivers. He was also
great without any receivers. Right, It's why Brady's got the
(24:53):
Super Bowls. Okay, I'm seeing that a little bit from
Jordan Love. The wide receivers the Packers had last year, Yeah,
they're okay. None of them are great, none of em
are phenomenally. Oh this guy, Oh you didn't know. They
don't miss Devontee. Didn't miss any of these guys. They
have a bunch of wide receivers who were just okay,
and still Jordan Love was able to put up that
those kind of numbers, different from a guy like brock
perty Hewitt's. Oh I got McCaffrey, I got Kittle, I
(25:14):
got a guy, got Deebo Samuel, I got Jerry Rice,
I got John Taylor. Look at all these great guys,
I got tarall Owens, all these guys I'm throwing to. Like,
you see the level of play that that some of
these quarterbacks around, And you have to understand that, you know,
the best always make everybody else better. But there's only
a couple in the history of the game where you
can look back and say they could win with anyone.
(25:36):
It didn't matter who was out there. It made you know,
Montana had Jerry Rice, and Steve Young had Jerry Rice,
and then then he had tarall Owens. Like these great
quarterbacks we talk about have had great guys throughout their career.
And here's Mahomes who when you look back and say, oh, well,
Tyree Tyreek Kill's been gone. Man, he's been gone for
a couple of years. They got a Super Bowl, right, So,
I mean, I don't know what else to tell him. Yeah,
(25:57):
he can win, heats can win win, he has a
great receiver. And now clearly they didn't need to pay
Tyreek Hill. This is probably something Andy Reid new. Yeah
that's great. We have to you let Tyreek Kill go. Yeah,
why I don't need him. Do you mean you don't
need him? Nah? I don't need him? What do you
mean you don't need him? Don't need him? We're gonna win,
suing you're not gonna win. Oh wait, you did win
super Bowls without him. I mean that's that's the true
(26:18):
level of the greatness of Patrick Mahomes. And again last
year his most impressive. And it doesn't matter who's playing
next Thursday, the Thursday after that or Sunday, Mahomes is
still gonna be great, and the Chiefs are gonna be great,
and they're gonna be the overwhelming Super Bowl favorites, whether
they have five new receivers every year or they just
run with Travis Kelcey and Taylor Swift running well.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
Allegedly, Taylor Swift is now drawing up plays, that's what
Mahomes says, so you might you might get the but Daddy,
I love him formation to get Travis Kelcey freed for
a touchdown pass?
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Or is that that's like when Ted lassa and they
kept making up all the plays. What do we run, Sandman?
When I run the Bobby of the brain heenan, Why
do we run the antication of Puerto Rico, and they
had all the different names a lot. They gotta have
some creativity, you gotta have some levity with it all.
But you know, to your.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Point you did bring up Brady and his receivers. Don't
forget where they were all so dangerous, was at least
in his formative years, how good the defense was. And
that's where we're at in the Patrick Mahomes continuum right
winging around and put up points, and he can do that,
but last year he didn't have to do that all
the time because you had a defense that carried you.
(27:32):
Now I'm gonna have to get through unscathed. They had
pretty good fortune as it came to the old injury
fantasy gods and football gods looking at at them. They
didn't smite them as so many other teams I'm looking
at you, Ravens and Chargers annually. But for Mahomes last year,
(27:53):
the defense was the order of the day for the
first half the season, and it emulated a lot of
those Patriots squads where it was you know what, this
September games, early October, as long as we're not one
in six, we're feeling pretty good because it's running at
him in the division. I mean realistically, well, we're just
(28:15):
talking about going to the playoffs. Is Harbaugh gonna rally
this squad?
Speaker 1 (28:20):
Maybe?
Speaker 3 (28:21):
Do you believe Sean Payton suddenly gonna resurrect Denver with
bow Nicks?
Speaker 1 (28:24):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
And the Raiders are the Raiders just good enough to
be dangerous on any given Sunday, but not a good
team overall. So we expect that as long as they're
not suffering a ton of injuries early and getting off
to just a horrid start that come November and December
when it's winning time. As long as fifteen is upright,
(28:47):
I'll take my chances man six to one, same odds
as the forty nine ers. And even in a crowded
AFC where we've got a lot of questions the aforementioned Ravens,
can Joe burrowin company get off the matt Remember they.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Were gonna be there every year.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
That's they were telling me is they were leaving the
Super Bowl after giving that game away to the Rams
a couple.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
Of years ago.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
They're, ah, we're just getting warmed up. How's that working
out for you? How's out?
Speaker 1 (29:12):
You know?
Speaker 3 (29:13):
And now you're a receiver may or may not show up.
His coach doesn't know on a day to day basis,
So you've got their questions there, and just go all
the way around to a tongue of Alloa and the
and the Dolphins.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Do you trust him?
Speaker 3 (29:27):
I mean, Mike, But Daniel got a contract extension, that's
all fine and good. And everybody wrote their love poetry
to him.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
What have they won?
Speaker 3 (29:34):
Not a damn thing. Some style points and he looks
like a guy out of the third season of Miami Vice.
Now that's all I got.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Dude, I don't think they wore those short pants. And
Miami Vice third season was more of the pastel colors
than it was the one.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
And he's got the tinted glasses.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
Now get shaggy your hair. You a little unkempt. You know,
he grows a terrible beard. But he's got big feet.
Raheem Most told us he's got really big feet. He
really went on about that. He just wanted us to know,
little guy bit feet. Yeah, yeah, yeah, a little guy
big fit in the short pant.
Speaker 5 (30:07):
No.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
And the funny thing is, I remember because like the
heyday of Miami Vice, like was when I was like
a sophomore in high school and I remember I was
so excited. I got a pair of the white parachute
pants and I warmed to school and I just felt
like the coolest guy in the world. Man, Like that
was such a huge thing. And I was like, I'm
just cool. Of course, I was like five five, so like,
(30:29):
you know, five five, guy, I look like a painter,
you know, I'm like, okay, But I just felt like
the coolest dude in the world. Man, I'm wearing these
white Miami Vice pants and I feel like I'm just
walking down the hallway from class to class going do
do do Do Do Do do? Barow put in a
wow wow do do do do? Do? Do? Do do
do do? Walking into class. Oh, it was the coolest guy.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
That's the best. But then, you know what you could
have done once you were done wearing those pants. You
could have pinned him up on the wall and had
a little painting party like the Joker did and nine
film Batman. Here go, I got a clean palate. Here
to go to work. Guys, nobody touches these pants. Okay, Graham,
can you wash these pants? You just wore him today? Yeah,
I want to wear him tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Can you watch these pants and try him so I
could wear him tomorrow. I gonna wear the pants again.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
You want to go get that drum machine now too,
so you can emulate that.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Do do do do Do Do Do Do do do do
do do right now? Mary Mack is going this Miami
Vice thing. What the hell is this? Mary's going? Oh
that movie with Jamie Fox, Miami Vice, that one win
Colin Farrell? Is it? What are you talking about?
Speaker 6 (31:35):
Never heard of that movie.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
I actually wouldn't bring the pants back to what I
would do is I would wear him Monday and then
I would say to my grandma, hey can you wash these?
Not gonna bring him back like on Wednesday and Thursday.
Like I would wear him the way today, wear him
go Okay, I wear him a couple of days later,
wear the pants. So I would kind of do it
like that. You know, I got what do?
Speaker 3 (31:53):
I got about three months to get Jason white pants
for his birthday.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Do you think it works? Well?
Speaker 6 (32:00):
He'll probably mess it up with like big Max off.
Speaker 5 (32:03):
Really sorry it was too easy?
Speaker 1 (32:10):
Well thanks for nothing, Mary mac. You said that nobody.
Speaker 6 (32:13):
Would miss me if freaking Mike killed me, So I
don't know.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
Okay, Okay, Wow, she's still okay, Wow, I'm still talk
to you about that. That's a little out of context.
Speaker 6 (32:24):
That's not out of context. That's what you said it was.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
I said, if okay, it's a callback to last Friday,
and it's I said, if there was some kind of
spoor in the air and Harmon turned into some kind
of alien who would kill people, you wouldn't make it
out because you would forget your phone go back in
to get it, and that's when Harmon would grab you
with this extra.
Speaker 6 (32:43):
Long way to say, no one would miss me.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
Well, because I asked you, I said that would be tough.
You said, ah, my friends wouldn't even know what I said.
Speaker 6 (32:50):
Okay, So I'm right.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
You said.
Speaker 3 (32:53):
You're making it like you wanted a violin playing behind you.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
I don't want you don't want to. No, I wouldn't
go back for my phone to text my friends. I
would They would know I was missing. And I'm like, okay,
so you're the one that said nobody would know you
were missing if Harmon turned into some kind of pod
person and killed you.
Speaker 5 (33:11):
You said it, guys, I was the first one that happened.
By the way, he said, He's said, Patrick's gonna go
in there and be like, Mike, is that you? And
then Mike was gonna be like, I like the Vikings
in the Seahawks. And then I'd be like, you won
me over, And then that's when he gets me. Yeah,
because you know which is actually true? Patrick, you are.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
You are such an incredibly positive fun person. He would
take advantage of that.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
Why you.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
Again with a little with a little bit of a hey, Mike,
you okay? And he would say, of course on far
really close to me. So what could Patrick, and you
would go, oh, I always knew we were this. Look,
you're a couple. A little bit closer, just a little
bit closer.
Speaker 6 (33:51):
There you are gotta be the men in black right there.
You basically just prove that Patrick is billable.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
That's man, I'm going in for a hug. And then
suddenly it's a big it's a big arm, like through
your body.
Speaker 6 (34:06):
And he would And the thing is he really would
fall for that.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
I it's true.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
Mike wuld be like, I like the Seahawks and the Vikings,
and like, well, sign.
Speaker 6 (34:15):
Come on in my God and have an uh hug.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
Let me give you the same hug I gave Richard
Sherman after he won the Super Bowl a couple of
years ago.
Speaker 7 (34:25):
Come on in, Patrick, Jason, I swear I'm thinking of
Vincent the Dionofrio from from Men in Black, when he
was wearing the Edgar thing.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
Oh, and he keeps singing, but the bell that gets
a dang yes, yes, the bell is yes what someone
brought in here back the world to me? If you
would have that in the back for me, if I got.
Speaker 5 (34:52):
It for that's actually pretty on brand, Like, that's pretty
close to his portrayal of that.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
That's my favorite schie of the movie. He just keeps
hitting the dinging ding ding, Yes, yes, he got that
invent and Jerry Jones and I was.
Speaker 6 (35:06):
Gonna say, that does sound like a voice is kind
of yay, you do sound like venom with that.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
On my Carmen, I think you gotta say, Eddie.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
You gotta say the ednything.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
Let's go.
Speaker 7 (35:23):
That's actually pretty good, Shay, you just go like a
crappy version of day by the Wow.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
Well, but he had a pretty good version of paying
back in.
Speaker 8 (35:32):
The day dude, that venom not Yes, mister Wayne, I
marry nobody would miss you if you fell into the
pit and couldn't make it out Mary or somebody else.
Speaker 6 (35:43):
You know, I dreamed of working at Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 9 (35:46):
Now that I have the job, we would get Sam
to come fill your shift very easily. Mary, if you
couldn't make it out of the pit in the bottom
the swing that the hatred.
Speaker 6 (35:56):
In all twenty one years of my life, I've never
experienced this. This is this is pure agon.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
You wasn't told sixty Sometimes.
Speaker 6 (36:05):
I say and I ask myself, God, why did you
bless me with this job? And everyone hits me.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
She's playing in the.

Speaker 6 (37:54):
iSIG We're shooing.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Take this video over the other eight seven seven.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
Some new details emerging over the Brandon Ayuk situation from
a day ago, which the forty nine Ers agreed to
terms and signed him four year extension, thirty million dollars
a year, seventy six million dollars guaranteed. Initially, we found
out a day ago that, Okay, well, this is an
offer that was on the table for Ayuk for the
(38:25):
last couple of weeks. Then Ayuk's representations said no, no, no,
that's not the case. Okay, maybe so maybe this is
the forty nine ers trying to push the narrative a bit.
But story breaks today that the forty nine Ers nearly
had two trades in place for Ayuk before he decided
to sign, and they signed him long term. They had
a three team deal in which he would have went
(38:47):
to the Steelers, and they wanted a receiver back out
of it, but it was hard to get one, and
potentially they were trying to get Courtland Sutton away from
the Broncos. It didn't work, so Ayuk is staying a
member of the forty nine ers. Now this is where again,
isaig rethink I'm gonna Zach, I told you how much
I can't stand how the forty nine ers negotiate. They
(39:08):
take everything, they take so much care and too much
thinking into things, and they let stuff drag out way long.
But I love the guts on signing him when they
couldn't trade him, because they know this is a twenty
twenty four or bust season. They have eight players making
more than fifteen million dollars a year, not counting Trent Williams, who,
(39:30):
by the way, eventually will come in when they decide
to pay him. When Jermaine Johnson sacks brock Purty four
times next week, then they're gonna bring it there again. Right,
there's too much money. There's big changes coming after this year.
You have to pay brock Purdy. But this is one
of those figure it out later situations because San Francisco
gets it. They need Ayuk, they need him happy. If
(39:52):
he's gonna make a run this season. There's no way.
If you're thinking we're gonna keep this guy for the
rest of his career, you go from we can trade
him away for another receiver, or give him thirty million
dollars a year like the As much as I wanted
to rip the Niners for how they do things, nobody
thinks that, well, we can't trade them, so let's give
him thirty million dollars. What the Niners have decided to
(40:14):
do finally, is you know what, give him the money
and we'll figure things out in the off season. Some
guys were gonna have to trade. Some guys are gonna
have to let go. It's fine. You clearly looks like
someone they're either going to keep or trade if they
may be, Hey, we'll look into this next off season.
We can get a second and a third for Ayuk.
He's got his contract for the next three years. After
thirty million this year, there's less money out there. Let's
(40:37):
just do it because we'll figure it out in the
off season. And I love it this because there's no
way they went from we love the guy, or we
could trade him. No, they saw they couldn't make a
deal and recoup the receiver they needed if they were
gonna trade Ayuk. So they decided, gett's, give him the
money and we'll figure things out in the off season.
That's an awesome thing. And I dig the guts the
forty nine ers head. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
I mean, it's just the other side of the coin
of what we were talking about yesterday in terms of,
you know, the pragmatism of it all from Ayuk and
his agent's standpoint as well as much as you could
say they lost. Well, he didn't have to do training
camp for a month. Yeah, that when every veteran receiver, everybody, right,
Trent Williams. As much as this is about the holdout,
(41:19):
he's got three years seventy five million left and obviously
deserves to be paid at the top. You did sign
a long term deal. There is something to be said
for that. So I understand you know, wanting to be
and get your respect and all that stuff, but you
also don't want to be in camp for the month
and a half when it's one hundred and fifty two
degrees and all of that. So you know, you end
(41:39):
up winning, and that's what for Ayuk. He ended up
winning that side. Hopefully health wise, you know, we don't
have any of the soft tissue injuries that sometimes come
from it. But for the Niners, yeah, load up this
year reevaluate is Deebo Samuel are still going to be
with the same Maybe maybe not brock Per he gets paid,
(42:01):
but as we know, you smooth everything out by converting
stuff to signing bonuses and it trails out over a
number of years like you're sloughing off rocks on the
the yards of shawsh Ink see what I did there
that you can do just that way and keep by.
You can everybody happy, and if you need to spin
him off, hopefully he plays well enough and commensurate enough
(42:22):
that Pittsburgh and everybody else still trying to fix their
woes a year from now.
Speaker 1 (42:26):
So that's how the Niners will spin them off, Like
they'll pretend they're Andy dropping the the dust in the yard. Hey,
I'm dropping a couple of players. We're dropping Bosa, We're
gonna drop Fred Warner right here. Maybe she knows something
coming up. Next, we'll get back into the biggest story
of the night right here, Jason and Mike. This is
Fox Sports or Radio.
