So again, we'll have an update on Clayton Kershaw following
the Dodgers game toe injury. He leaves the game and
(01:00):
the second inning for the Dodgers tonight. Couldn't really push
off the man, which would explain is eighty seven mile
an hour fastball and sixty seven mile an hour curveball.
So again we'll have more on that because this is
a huge deal for both the Dodgers and he, and
it's it's so many things. It's the Dodgers rest of
the season in playoffs, it's the postseason. It's Clayton Kershaw's career.
(01:21):
It's coming back from so many injuries. Will he be
able to come back from this one? We're in the
beginning of September. Have we seen him throw his last pitch.
There's a lot to deal with here and the Dodgers
right now with a five to four lead over Arizona,
we have gonna have to wait a few innings for that,
so so be a little patient. But I'm sure we'll
get it before we get off the air tonight. So
I'm sure we'll have that tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
No, I mean the game will end, assuming Joe Kelly
can get out of the inning and all that kind
of stuff, and a where you go and look you
go to the pen that early like That's the one
thing is we've watched the Dodgers up close and personal
in southern California. Is the number of nights that by
the end of the fourth inning we're already into either
the second or third arm coming out of the pen.
(02:06):
Leaves you nervous for the month of September. But the
fact that it's a toe injury, because right, I mean,
we talked about his disposition and coming up, wasn't you know,
holding his shoulder, wasn't no elbow or any of that.
So I was like, all right, what happened. It's toe injury.
Can't get a push, so take care of your feet people.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Again, We'll have more on that coming up in a bit,
but right now, you know, waiting to hear more on
Clayton Kursher the.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Dodgers saying it is a toe injury.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Now.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Meanwhile, speaking of injuries, right, we had a couple of
big NFL reports today and one of the biggest. We
get set for the first game of the year next week.
The Kansasity chief is gonna be without Hollywood Brown, right,
one of the big signings of the offseason. Hey here, Hey,
the Chiefs continued every year just replace wide receivers. It's
like they get a new five guys every year. These
are our five guys last year, These are our five
(02:57):
guys last day. And goodbe getting five guys in ex
didn't And you know, and the thing is, I'm not
the biggest fan of five guy.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
I haven't been to one in years.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
I'm not I'm not the biggest fan like I could
be sold.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
I mean, I guess I don't know. They want to talk,
but you know, okay, no, I ain't. Look there's all Hey,
you want to sell me.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
I'm great?
Speaker 4 (03:16):
Hey all right, No, no, no, if they want to
partner with us here at Fox Sports Radio. I mean,
I'm not disparaging it. I'm just saying it's it's just
not been the kids thing and they usually choose.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
But Marquise Brown, Hollywood Brown not gonna be back this week,
Andy Reid saying it today. We're gonna have to see
how it goes from there. He's made incredible progress, but
I wouldn't predict him being there this week. Brown, of course,
dislocated his shoulder on the Chiefs first offensive play of
the preseason. Look, it didn't look like they were gonna
have him, so now this is gonna be Hey, what
(03:52):
are we gonna get from Xavier Worthy, the first round
pick right Raschi Rece who was their leading wide receiver
last year and is still playing after all the stuff
that happened this summer? What about Juju Smith Schuster? How
fast will he wind up getting back in considering he
played with Mahomes and might be an easier slide back
into the system. Yes, you'd love to have Hollywood Brown, right,
(04:13):
you'd love to have him because when you see the
Chiefs adding receivers, you say, Wow, this guy's a good talent,
and he's young, and he's fast, and he's someone that
can really blossom with the downfield passing attack of the Chiefs.
But let me just tell you this, he's a good player.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Right.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
The Chiefs have had wide receivers, they've had good receivers
only a couple, and they've had a lot of Jags
and Hollywood Brown asident.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
This is not a Hollywood Brown thing.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
But honestly, hasn't Patrick Mahone shown us that it's irrelevant
who plays wide receiver for them? I mean really, I
mean we think about, oh, Mahomes are gonna have this
great wide receive. It's irrelevant the guy wins Super Bowls
when he has a star receiver, and Tyreek Hill when
he doesn't have a star receiver. When the guys from
the Super Bowl last year none of them are on
the team anymore, only Travis Kelcey coming off a down year,
(05:02):
Like the top three wide receivers. Now none of them
are back, you know, except for and Roschie. Rice worked
his way in to become one of the top receivers
over the course of the season. But really it's irrelevant, Pat,
and this is really just to understand how great Patrick
Mahomes is is that last year was probably the most
impressive season he has had.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Not the best. We talked about this a little bit
the other night. Not the best. Certainly he's had.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Better seasons with stats, better seasons, you know, with yardage
than he did last year. And look, anybody who had
him in fantasy last year is going, man, my home's
just killing me.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
But at the end, what happened. They won the Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
Yeah, I bench him for a good chunk in your
fantasy season as much as then psychologically scarred you. At
that point, it was I'm not getting three hundred and
three each week.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
This is painful.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
I gotta sit Mahomes. Why because he's killing me?
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Right? Things you never thought you would say. But it
doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
And this is why last year was so impressive, because
they were able to win the Super Bowl in a
year where they really shouldn't have won. This was not
a great Chiefs team. Last year, right, Isaiah Pacheco, Hey,
he was a nice running back.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Was he unbelievable? No, he was a nice find.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
He ran hard, and he certainly had games where where
he played pretty well. But this is not a guy
that you're going crazy for saying, oh my god, this
guy is unbelievable. And you look at the wide receivers.
After Rashi Rice, who caught seventy nine passes, the next
high in receptions was twenty seven.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Was Justin Watson.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
You had Justin Watson and Valdaz Scantling and Sky Moore
and Kadarius Tony and all these guys are catching catching
twenty five, twenty seven, twenty eight passes, Like it doesn't
matter who catches passes for the Chiefs. That's how good
Mahomes is and why last year was so impressive because
they won the Super Bowl and he really had hardly
any threats to throw to. Like we look at, hey,
(06:53):
Aaron Rodgers is gonna be great this year. Why, Hey,
Garrett Wilson one of the top five receivers in the NFL.
Mike Williams is back. He'll be ready for Week one.
Coming off the acl entry. They drafted Malak high Court oh,
look at all these weapons, Mahomes. It's yeah, whatever, Just
let me know who's out there. That's fine, just so
I know I can call their name when I tell
them what they're doing wrong. Right, Hey, give me more
of a dig on that. Yeah, you know, get into
(07:14):
your break a little bit sooner on that. It really
doesn't matter. That's the real genius of how great Patrick
Mahomes is. He can make it work with anyone. He
can make anyone better. And we've seen some of the
great quarterbacks do it over the course of their career.
Tom Brady was great with great receivers. He was also
great without any receivers. Right, It's why Brady's got the
(07:34):
Super Bowls. Okay, I'm seeing that a little bit from
Jordan Love. The wide receivers the Packers had last year, Yeah,
they're okay. None of them are great, none of them
are phenomenally Oh this guy, Oh you didn't know. They
don't miss Devontee. Didn't miss any of these guys. They
have a bunch of wide receivers who were just okay,
and still Jordan Love was able to put up those
kind of numbers, different from a guy like Brock Perdy,
who it's Oh, I got McCaffrey, I got Kittle, I
(07:56):
got Auke, I got Deebo Samuel, I got Jerry Rice,
I got John Taylor. Look at all these great guys.
I got tarall Owens, all these guys I'm throwing to, Like,
you see the level of play that that that that
some of these quarterbacks around. And you have to understand that,
you know, the best always make everybody else better. But
there's only a couple in the history of the game
where you can look back and say they could win
(08:17):
with anyone. It didn't matter who was out there. It
made the you know, Montana had Jerry Rice, and Steve
Young had Jerry Rice, and then and then he had
taroll Owens. Like these great quarterbacks we talked about have
had great guys throughout their career. And here's Mahomes who
when you look back and say, oh, well, Tyreek k
Tyreek Kill's been gone, man, he's been gone for a
couple of years.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
They got a Super Bowl, right, So I mean, I
don't know what else to tell him.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Yeah, he can win, heats can win with he has
a great receiver. And now clearly they didn't need to
pay Tyreek Hill. This is probably something Andy Reid new. Yeah,
that's great.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
We have to here. Let Tyreek Khill go. Yeah, why
I don't need him? Tell you mean you don't need him? Now?
Speaker 1 (08:52):
I don't need him. What do you mean you don't
need him? Don't need him? We're gonna win, suing, You're
not gonna win. Oh wait, you did win super Bowls
without him. I mean that's that's the true level of
the greatness of Patrick Mahomes and again last year his
most impressive. And it doesn't matter who's playing next Thursday,
the Thursday after that or Sunday, Mahomes is still gonna
be great, and the Chiefs are gonna be great, and
they're gonna be the overwhelming Super Bowl favorites, whether they
(09:15):
have five new receivers every year or they just run
with Travis Kelcey and Taylor Swift running well.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Allegedly, Taylor Swift is now drawing up plays. That's what
Mahomes says, so you might you might get the but Daddy,
I love him formation to get Travis Kelcey freed for
a touchdown pass?
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Or is that that's like when Ted Lassa and they
kept making up all the plays. What do we run Sandman,
What do we run the Bobby the brain heenan, when
do we run the.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Annexation of Puerto Rico?
Speaker 4 (09:45):
And they got all the different names a lot. They
gotta have some creativity, gotta have some levity with it all.
But you know, to your point you did bring up
Brady and his receivers. Don't forget where they were all
so dangerous. Was at least in his formative how good
the defense was. And that's where we're at in the
Patrick Mahomes continuum right winging around and put up points,
(10:07):
and he can do that, but last year he didn't
have to do that all the time because you had
a defense that carried you. Now I'm gonna have to
get through unscathed. They had pretty good fortune as it
came to the old injury fantasy gods and football gods
looking at them. They didn't smite them as so many
(10:27):
other teams I'm looking at you, Ravens and Chargers annually.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
But for Mahomes last.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
Year, the defense was the order of the day for
the first half the season, and it emulated a lot
of those Patriots squads where it was you know what
this September games, early October as long as we're not
one in six, we're feeling pretty good because it was
running at him in the division. I mean realistically, well,
(10:56):
he's just talking about going to the playoffs, Harbaugh, go
and to rally this squad.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Maybe.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
Do you believe Sean Payton suddenly gonna resurrect Denver with
bow Nicks?
Speaker 3 (11:06):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
And the Raiders are the Raiders just good enough to
be dangerous on any given Sunday, but not a good
team overall. So we expect that as long as they're
not suffering a ton of injuries early and getting off
to just a horrid start that come November and December
when it's winning time. As long as fifteen is upright,
(11:28):
I'll take my chances man six to one, same odds
as the forty nine ers. And even in a crowded
AFC where we've got a lot of questions the aforementioned Ravens.
Can Joe burrowin company get off the mat? Remember they
were gonna be there every year. That's they were telling
me is they were leaving the Super Bowl after giving
that game away to the Rams a couple of years ago.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
They're, ah, we're just getting warmed up. How's that working?
Out for you? How's out?
Speaker 2 (11:54):
You know?
Speaker 4 (11:54):
And now you're a receiver. May or may not show up.
His coach doesn't know on a day to day basis.
So you've got their questions there and just go all
the way around to a tongue of Alla and the
and the Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
Do you trust him?
Speaker 4 (12:08):
I mean, Mike, But Daniel got a contract extension, that's
all fine and good. And everybody wrote their love poetry
to him.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
What have they won? Not a damn thing.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
Some style points and he looks like a guy out
of the third season of Miami Vice. Now that's all
I got, dude. I don't think they wore those short pants.
And Miami Vice third season was more of the pastel
colors than it was the one.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
And he's got the tinted glasses.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Now get shaggy, your hair all a little unkempt, you know.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
He grows a terrible beard. Yeah, but he's got big feet.
Rareie Moster told us he's got really big feet. He
really went on about that. He just wanted us to
know little guy big feet.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, a little guy big fit in short
pant No. And the funny thing is, I remember because
like the heyday of Miami Vice. Like was when I
was like a sophomore in high school, and I remember
I was so excited. I got a pair of the
white Power shoot pants and I warre hied to school
and I just felt like the coolest guy in the world. Man,
Like that was such a huge thing, and I was like,
(13:07):
I'm just cool. Of course, I was like five to five,
so like, you know, five five, guy, I look like
a painter, you know, I'm like, okay, But I just
felt like the coolest dude in the world. Man, I'm
wearing these white Miami Vice pants and I feel like
I'm just walking down the hallway from class to class going.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
Do do do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do
Do do barrow wow, put in a ware wow do
do do do do do do do do do do
do do walking into class. Oh, it was the coolest guy.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
That's the best. But then, you know what you could
have done once you were done wearing those pants. You
could have pinned them up on the wall and had
a little painting party like the Joker did in nineteen
eighty nine film Batman. Here Go, I got a clean
pallet here to go to work, guys, nobody touches these pants. Okay, Graham,
can you wash these pants? You just wore him today? Yeah,
I want to wear him tomorrow. Can you watch these
(13:53):
pants and try him so I can wear him tomorrow.
I'm gonna wear the pants again. You want to go
get that drum machine now too, so you can emulate that.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
Do do do do Do do do do do do
do right now? Mary Mack is going this Miami Vice thing.
What the hell is this? Mary is going?
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Oh that movie with Jamie Fox, Miami Vice, that one
win Colin Farrell is what are you talking about?
Speaker 6 (14:16):
I never heard of that movie.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
I actually wouldn't bring the pants back to what I
would do is I would wear him Monday and then
I would say to my grandma, hey can you wash?
He's not gonna bring him back like on Wednesday and Thursday.
Like I would wear him the way today, wear him okay,
wear him a couple of days later, wear the pants.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
So I would kind of do it like that, You know,
I what do?
Speaker 4 (14:35):
I got about three months to get Jason white pants
for his birthday.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Do you think it works? Well?
Speaker 6 (14:41):
He'll probably mess it up with like big Max off.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Really sorry, it was too easy.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
Well, thanks for nothing, Mary Mac. You said that nobody.
Speaker 6 (14:54):
Would miss me if freaking Mike killed me, So I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
Okay, Okay, she's still okay.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
I'm still taunting you about that.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
That's a little out of context.
Speaker 6 (15:05):
That's not out of context. That's what you said it was.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
I said, if okay, it's a callback to last Friday,
and it's I said, if there was some kind of
spoor in the air and Harmon turned into some kind
of alien who would kill people, you wouldn't make it
out because you would forget your phone, go back in
to get it, and that's when Harmon would grab you
with this extra long wait.
Speaker 6 (15:27):
Would miss me?
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Well, because I asked you, I said that would be tough.
You said, ah, my friends wouldn't even know, And I.
Speaker 6 (15:31):
Said, okay, so I'm right.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
You said you're making it like you wanted a violin
playing behind it.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
I no, I wouldn't go back for my phone to
text my friends. I would They would know I was missing.
And I'm like, okay, so you're the one that said
nobody would know you were missing if Harmon turned into
some kind of pod person and killed you.
Speaker 7 (15:52):
You said it, guys I was the first one that happened,
by the way, he said, Patrick's gonna go in there
and be like, Mike, is that you? And then Mike
was gonna be like, I like the Vikings in the Seahawks.
And then I'd be like you on me over and
then that's when he gets me yeah, because you know
which is actually true?
Speaker 1 (16:11):
Patrick, you are you are such an incredibly positive fun person.
He would take advantage of that. Why if you want
again with a little with a little bit.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Of a hey, Mike, you okay?
Speaker 1 (16:22):
And he would say, of course, on far really close
to me, So what hug Patrick, And you.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
Would go, oh, I always knew we were this. Look
you are a couple a little bit closer, just a
little bit closer. There you are.
Speaker 7 (16:34):
Gotta be the men in black.
Speaker 6 (16:35):
So you basically just proved that Patrick is gullible.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
That's I'm going in for a hug.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
And then suddenly it's a big it's a big arm,
like through your body, and he.
Speaker 6 (16:48):
Would And the thing is he really would fall for that.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
I It's true.
Speaker 7 (16:52):
Mike would be like, I like the Seahawks and the Vikings,
and like, well, sign come on in, my guy and
have a arms my chest.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
U hu, let me give you the same hug I
gave Richard Sherman after he won the Super Bowl a
couple of years ago.
Speaker 8 (17:07):
Come on in, Patrick, Jason, I swear I'm thinking of
Vincent the Dionofrio from from Men in Black, when he
was wearing the Edgar thing.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Oh, and he keeps dinging. But the bell that gets
u a.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
Ding yes, yes, the bell is yes.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
What someone brought in here a pet the world to me?
You have that in the back for me if I
got it.
Speaker 7 (17:34):
For that's actually pretty on brand, Like, that's pretty close
to to his portrayal of that.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
That's my favorite series of the movie.
Speaker 5 (17:41):
He just keeps hitting the dinging ding ding, yes, yes,
he got that in Venom Jerry Jones, And.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
That does sound like kind of Jay.
Speaker 7 (17:53):
You do sound like Venom with that, Patrick, Come on,
my Carmen, I think he ed you gotta say the ednything.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
That's actually pretty good.
Speaker 6 (18:06):
Shay. You just sound like a crappy version of paying
by the Wow.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
Well, but he had a pretty good version of paying
back in the day dude.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
That Venom not Yes, mister Wayne, I don't marry Nobody
would miss you.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
If you fell into the pit, we couldn't make it out, Mary,
or we want somebody else.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
You know, I dreamed of working at Fox Sports.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
Radio, and now that I have the job, we would
get to come fill your shift very easily.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Marry.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
If you couldn't make it out of the pit in
the bottom, then put.
Speaker 6 (18:36):
Up the hatred. In all twenty one years of my life,
I've never experienced this. This is just pure agony.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
You weren't told sixty.
Speaker 6 (18:44):
Sometimes, man, sometimes I sit and I ask myself, God,
why did you bless me with this job? And everyone
hates me? She plays in the violin all for this,
by the way.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
Good good, that's uh, that's the theatricality on a Friday.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
That's what we need.
Speaker 1 (19:01):

Speaker 3 (21:47):
Here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
Now, before we get into this big NFL topic, I
was thinking about this a lot. Tonight is seeing that
tonight is look the latest exclamation point in Caitlyn Clark's
season and a huge night for her. Look her and
and the big win over the Chicago sky Ring into
that coming up in a big way in about a
(22:09):
half hour.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
But she had thirty one points twelve assists.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
Angel Reese has another double double, but she stays in
the game until there's a minute left in a twenty point.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Burial just to get the double double.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
So okay, really there's no couch. I know there's no
real question anymore for Rookie of the Year. And I
just keep going back to this. I remember I'm old
enough to remember what was it three months ago when
Diana Tarossi said, Hey, reality is coming soon for Caitlyn Clark.
So what reality are we in now? Like where she's
(22:43):
potent right now it's between her and Asia Wilson for MVP.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
What we are are? We are we in the Matrix?
Are we in Earth? Ten thousand and five? From Deadpool?
Speaker 1 (22:51):
And Wolverine, Like, what what what reality are we in
right now? Because I don't know where we are because
we're not in Diana Tarossi's reality where reality is coming
for Katelyn Clark, and boy, it's been such a horrible
getting used to the WNBA and they're really teaching her
things like I'm sorry, I don't see it. I mean
just watching tonight and seeing the Chicago sky just hit
her with all kinds of try physical plays and and
(23:14):
and borderline dirty plays in the second half because they
were so mad that they were getting worked by Caitlin Clark.
I mean, what reality is there? I mean, I mean
she's she's owning the league already, So I really I
don't know what reality we're in. Just like dead pulling Wolverine,
I was never sure what reality we were in, but it.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Was so much fun. I didn't care. But still in
the end, I really don't where we were. I like,
so were we in Wolverine's reality?
Speaker 1 (23:35):
Wait, Wolverine was in a different then brought him back
to six sixteen, and then we can't then, but then
he went there together, But it didn't matter. It was
so much fun, so I could say the same thing here.
W It doesn't matter because this season for the WNBA
is so much fun.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
Yeah, I would say this the reality and universe that
we're living in is is one where the physicality and
the chippiness is really boiled over, as we saw from
a couple of the hits from the Shields as this
game war on and it was a burial and look,
Caitlin Clark is no I forget what the term it's
(24:12):
probably best here, I'll just say she's the shrinking violet
right to where she plays, to the crowd, she gets
in the referees ears. She's known to give a glare
or a smirk. I mean that trademark smirk. I mean
if you could trademark a look. Her smirk after she's
(24:32):
cooked you is about as gotten you to commit a
silly foul is about as good as it gets. So
you know, every once in a while, I'm not surprised
she gets run on, but I think that's where the
Tarassi and so many others before the season. That's really
the only thing I guess you can say is she's
getting physically tested on a nightly basis. But in terms
(24:53):
of her gameplay, right, it's all a matter of context.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
And all that.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
It took a little bit of hey, welcome to the
w NBA early and that schedule sucked. She hadn't worked
with their teammates. How many times did we watch And
this is for all rookies, but certainly the spotlights on her.
And that's the conversation now, is you're not used to
these folks running, you know, plays and trying to anticipate
where people are in their spots. For the first couple
(25:21):
of weeks, that was tough. I mean, it's a short
training camp right into a season, coming off the long
college campaign, so the difficulties there, But all of that
to say, yeah, once there was a little bit of
a break, like the Olympic break was the worst thing
to happen for the I mean it's the best thing
to happen for the w NBA in a lot of ways, because.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Katelyn Clark has come back. It's the Clark middle Finger Tour.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
I went, I went to the Ocean, I met Aaron Judge,
I sang on stage of the Country of Music concert
and now I'm ready to cook it, which I am.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
Ready, Jason.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
One of the things she talked about though, all of
those public appearances, those awkward meetups when she was just
trying to buy peanut butter in the grocery store and
still stood and posed for all those pictures or whatever.
Is the fact that she said at least two hours
a day they practiced, not to mention the amount of time.
How many shots did you see of her with their teammates?
(26:19):
Ange Reese did the same thing, and a bunch of
other players did, so it's not singling her out, but
that's all valuable bonding stuff and getting to know each
other on so many other levels that starts to transcend
just your general x's and o's, which you still think
you should be the coach of the Indiana Fever. But
to that point, is all of that coming down the stretch.
(26:41):
The cohesion is certainly there. Sure a bit of grab ass,
and she patted her turnover stats today by kind of
goofing around up twenty five, but again they all count
just the same. So those that want to just do
box score reading they can because that game was done.
Speaker 3 (26:59):
So exit out about a fresco exit swalling down.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
The Jason Smiths are with Mike Carmon live from the
tyreq dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
Now to a story that has kind of.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
I would say this is boiled just under the surface
the last twenty four hours, and that is these reports
that Aaron Rodgers has been a cancer in the Jets
locker room right A report that started on TikTok that
started to gain some traction.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
Oh hey, yeah, Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
It's not a good vibe, according to an agent, an
anonymous agent, not a great vibe in the Jets locker
room right now because Rogers been allowed to do whatever
he's wanted to do over the course of the offseason,
and things aren't great right now. I get it, But
you know what, it's irrelevant for a lot of reasons.
First of all, if he really was being a cancer,
(27:47):
we'd have heard more about this. There would have There
would have been more about Do I think he talks
to Robert Sala at all?
Speaker 8 (27:53):
No?
Speaker 1 (27:53):
I think they have intermediaries because there shouldn't be, because
Robert Sala should be as far away from the offense
as possible. Sala's not a great coach. Everything this year
is on Aaron Rodgers. So yeah, do I think everything
is their best friends?
Speaker 8 (28:05):
No?
Speaker 1 (28:05):
But is he a cancer? You see what his teammates
are saying about him every day. They don't care that
he missed and went to Egypt. They don't give a crap.
Garrett Wilson just cares. Oh my goodness, look at the
way the ball is delivered and I'm getting touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
Nobody cares because Aaron Rodgers is still great.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
You see some of the passes he makes in practice,
and I watch him every day. He's still throwing the
football like he did a couple of years ago, and
he's gonna come out huge slinging that ball.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
I'm telling you. But even even if you think okay,
things are going back.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
Aaron Rodgers has been this guy for his entire career.
He has not changed, if anything, in the last few
years he has gotten more bold with his attitude. And
what have we seen in the last four years. Okay,
last year he got hurt, missed the season. Nothing you
can say, kind of a down year in Green Bay.
(28:55):
The year before all right, year before that, two MVPs. Right,
and this is when the birth of Aaron Rodgers of hey,
when I say something, people care deeply about what I say.
Right when he started first, when he was upset about
Jordan Love getting drafted. What do we add back to
back MVPs from and he played great. You really think
he's changed, You really think he's a different guy. He's
not the same guy he's been throughout his career. This
(29:17):
guy that's gonna go down on the top five quarterbacks
of all time. So yeah, I think he probably came
into New York the same guy he was. And let's
face it, New York has it. The Jets haven't had
a star on this team of this magnitude in a
long time.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
Man.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
You gotta go back to when they got farther into
trade back in two thousand eight, when they had a guy.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Who was this.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
They've had great players, right reevs. Hall of Fame player
Darrol Reeves is phenomenal, but they haven't had a guy
like this in fifteen years. So yet this is Oh,
this is what it's like. And you have a big
superstar walking around the locker room, things are a little
bit different. The Jets have not had that. So yeah,
do I think everybody's best friends know? Do I think
Aaron Rodgers teammates really like him?
Speaker 3 (29:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (29:57):
Will they like him more when he puts up thirty
eight a week? Yeah, they'll love him. Everything is fine.
This story is irrelevant.
Speaker 4 (30:04):
It just seems that it's a noisy enough locker room
that beyond the Robert salah unexcused absence thing, which still
was just so ham handed and stupid. That's that's lack
of leadership and a guy who has no still even
with all of that time and all the noise he
went through last year. You know, when Rogers wasn't even
(30:28):
around the team, you thought you would might have learned
something along the way. Clearly did not in that instance,
or was just fed up with it and said I'll
wear it because either way they'll have to pay me
if they decide that I'm the problem. You know, hello,
I'm the problem. It's me all that stuff. But for Rogers, yeah,
we probably would have gotten some more anonymous sourcing. I
(30:52):
don't think there's one hundred percent you know, a lockstep. Hey,
this is the greatest guy in the world, because nobody
has that. Everybody's got the what the hell's wrong with him?
Or they laugh at some comments he's made, or conspiracy
theory he's uttered or whatever, to where you just kind
of shrug and say, Hey, as long as he's upright
(31:12):
and we keep him up right, we got a chance
to win. And that makes us all look better, and
maybe it builds us all the better contracts, particularly if
you're on the offensive side of things. Right, if he
stays upright, you have a big year, your alignment. You're
one of these receivers whatever, you're in line to find
yourself another payday, whether it's the Jets re upping or
somewhere else. So his success is your success. And I
(31:36):
think everybody is smart enough to realize that, and it
would appear as a group smart enough to keep their
mouth shut at least to this point. Now, if it
goes starts to go south and those cracks show, like
we talked about a couple of weeks ago, you can
go find the podcast. I want to say it was
almost two weeks ago to the day, and we said,
you know, if there's a loss or too early, or
(31:57):
they go out and get drum by San Francisco and
it becomes a tough slog through the middle of September,
then yeah, all of a sudden, the anonymous quotes may
pop out. But for now, everything's at least looks like
all the everybody's pushing in the same direction. And that's
good for you, buddy.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Yeah, Look, hey, everything is like I said, it's irrelevant.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
It doesn't It doesn't matter when if they score thirty
five points on the forty nine ers, Guess what, it's
going to be a locker where everybody's sitting around together
singing Kumbaya after the game. All right, That's that's what's
gonna happen. It's this is irrelevant. Now from irrelevant to relevancy.
As Steve Desager will tell us what's trending in the
wide world of sports.
Speaker 10 (32:38):
As the good evening once again, gentlemen, As you mentioned
the WNBA, it's been a very good week for NBA
TV because they've had a couple of Caitlin Clark games. Monday,
they had a WNBA doubleheader. The first game with New
York averaged one hundred and sixty six thousand TV viewers,
and then over six hundred thousand for Clark's game that
same night, the second part of doubleheader, which made it
(33:01):
the most watched w NBA game that channel's ever had,
and that was a larger audience than NBA TV got
this past season for all but one NBA game it
carried regular season and playoffs. And then Wednesday, the channel
had another game with Caitlin's Clark team and got nearly
six hundred thousand viewers. And yes, Clark was in action
(33:23):
tonight winning at Chicago, But.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Did more people watch that than watch Young Sheldon?
Speaker 10 (33:29):
That's well, considering it's not on, and that would be wero.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
That's always been that's always been your go to Steed. Hey,
here's what it is. This is how many people you.
Speaker 10 (33:36):
Know they had a final episode? Right, I know, but
I'm saying, I mean, now, nothing gets ratings on tape but.
Speaker 4 (33:42):
The Georgie and Whoever's first marriage. The show is getting
taped now, So.
Speaker 10 (33:47):
I'm curious to see what the ratings will be tonight.
With Caitlin Clark opposite college football on a Friday night,
that will be curious. But Clark and company won at
Chicago Indiana one hundred and eighty one the final Clark
thirty one points, twelve assists. Dallas at home beat Minnesota
ninety four to seventy six. There are two late games
at Las Vegas, about four minutes to go. The Ace
(34:10):
is up on Atlanta seventy five sixty seven, Asia Wilson
twenty six points, fourteen rebounds, and New York is leading
with under five minutes left at Seattle eighty seven seventy
seven Brianna Stewart with thirty two points. We're on upset
alert at the US Open in New York. Here, it's
what after eleven forty pm Eastern time. A few more
(34:31):
points and Novak Djokovic would be out of this tournament.
He's losing his third round match two sets to one
right now to an Australian Alexei Popperin, who's apparently never
won a third round match in any major in his career,
but took the first two sets tonight six four six '
four drops.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
The third same guy that beat Alcarez last night.
Speaker 10 (34:51):
No, that was Netherlands. Yeah, this is Australia, but it's
two completely unknown players. You are correct on that one.
He is leading five to three in the fourth and
perhaps final set of the match. We shall see. And
there's college football on FS one right now. Western Michigan
has taken the lead at Wisconsin early fourth quarter fourteen thirteen.
(35:11):
The touchdown was set up by a fake field goal.
Right now, Wisconsin is driving. It has first and goal
with about ten and a half minutes to go, and
they've just scored to take the lead. If they go
for two that would make it twenty one to fourteen Badgers,
but they do rule touchdown on this run from Wisconsin,
so ten and a half minutes to go.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
Home.
Speaker 10 (35:31):
Team back in the lead and at Stanford the Cardinal
head OFTCU in the second quarter, fourteen to seven wins
for Oklahoma and Michigan State. In the late night baseball,
the Dodgers are tied five to five at Arizona in
the top of the sixth Houston with a run on
the bottom of the ninth pat Kansas City. Three to
two wins for Cleveland, Minnesota and the Mets, who beat
(35:52):
the White Sox five to one.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Though The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike

body down and zig a zig a here's where you
zig isigzig We're shooping.
Speaker 4 (36:45):
Take this video over the other eight seven, seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
Some new details emerging over the Brandon Ayuk situation from
a day ago which the forty nine Ers agreed to
terms and signed him four year extension, thirty million dollars
a year, seventy six million dollars guaranteed.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
Initially, we found out.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
A day ago that Okay, well, this is an offer
that was on the table for Ayuk for the last
couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Then Ayuk's representations said no, no, no, that's not the case. Okay.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
Maybe so maybe this is the forty nine Ers trying
to push the narrative a bit. But story breaks today
that the forty nine Ers nearly had two trades in
place for Ayuk before he decided to sign, and they
signed him long term. They had a three team deal
in which he would have went to the Steelers, and
they wanted a receiver back out of it, but it
(37:38):
was hard to get one, and potentially they were trying
to get Courtland Sutton away from the Broncos. It didn't work,
so Ayuk is staying a member of the forty nine ers.
Now this is where again isaag rethink I'm gonna Zach.
I told you how much I can't stand how the
forty nine ers negotiate. They take everything, they take so
much care and too much thinking into things, and they
(37:59):
let stuff draw out way long. But I love the
guts on signing him when they couldn't trade him, because
they know this is a twenty twenty four or bust season.
They have eight players making more than fifteen million dollars
a year, not counting Trent Williams, who, by the way,
eventually will come in when they decide to pay him.
(38:20):
When Jermaine Johnson sacks Brock Purty four times next week,
then they're gonna bring it there again. Right, there's too
much money, there's big changes coming after this year. You
have to pay brock Purdy. But this is one of
those figure it out later situations. Because San Francisco gets it.
They need Ayuk, they need him happy. If he's gonna
make a run this season. There's no way. If you're
(38:43):
thinking we're gonna keep this guy for the rest of
his career, you go from we can trade him away
for another receiver, or give him thirty million dollars a year.
Like the As much as I want to rip the
Niners for how they do things, nobody thinks that, well,
we can't trade them, so let's give him thirty million dollars.
What the Niners have decided to do finally is you
know what, give him the money and we'll figure things
(39:04):
out in the off season. Some guys were gonna have
to trade. Some guys are gonna have to let go.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
It's fine.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
You clearly looks like someone they're either going to keep
or trade if they may be, Hey, we'll look into
this next off season. We can get a second and
a third for Ayuk. He's got his contract for the
next three years. After thirty million this year, there's less
money out there. Let's just do it because we'll figure
it out in the off season. And I love it
is because there's no way they went from we love
the guy, or we could trade him. No, they saw
(39:31):
they couldn't make a deal and recoup the receiver they
needed if they were gonna trade Ayuk. So they decided,
get let's give him the money and we'll figure things
out in the off season. That's an awesome thing. And
I dig the guts the forty nine ers had.
Speaker 3 (39:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (39:44):
I mean, it's just the other side of the coin
of what we were talking about yesterday in terms of,
you know, the pragmatism of it all from Ayuk and
his agent's standpoint as well, as much as you could
say they lost, well, he didn't have to do training
camp for a month. Yeah, that's what every veteran and
receiver and everybody, right, Trent Williams. As much as this
(40:04):
is about the holdout, he's got three years, seventy five
million left and obviously deserves to be paid at the top.
You did sign a long term deal. There is something
to be said for that. So I understand, you know,
wanting to be and get your respect and all that stuff,
but you also don't want to be in camp for
the month and a half when it's one hundred and
fifty two degrees.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
And all of that.
Speaker 4 (40:24):
So you know, you end up winning, and that's what
for Ayuk. He ended up winning that side hopefully health wise.
You know, we don't have any of the soft tissue
injuries that sometimes come from it. But for the Niners, yeah,
load up this year reevaluate is Deebo Samuel are still
going to be with the same Maybe maybe not Rock
(40:46):
Purdy gets paid. But as we know, you smooth everything
out by converting stuff to signing bonuses, and it trails
out over a number of years like you're sloughing off
rocks on the the yards of Shawshank. See what I
did there that you can do just that way and
keep by. You can everybody happy, and if you need
to spin him off, hopefully he plays well enough and
(41:08):
commensurate enough that Pittsburgh and everybody else is still trying
to fix their woes a year from now.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
So that's how the Niners will spin them off. Like
they'll pretend they're Andy dropping.
Speaker 3 (41:16):
The uh the dust in the yard.
Speaker 1 (41:19):
Hey, I'm dropping a couple of players. We're dropping Bosa,
We're gonna drop Fred Warner right here.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
Maybe she knows something
Speaker 1 (41:26):
Coming up next, we'll get back into the biggest story
of the night right here, Jason and Mike, this is
Fox Sports or Radio
