Alex Tischer, welcome back, Welcome back after your three week vacation.
I do want to say this all right off the bat,
I have lost a lot of respect for you in
the last two weeks, I have lost a lot of.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Respect for you.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
And you're gonna agree with me because the first day
you were out, when you decide I'm going on vacation
to go find myself, I'm gonna go to Death Valley
and I'm gonna go walk and I'm gonna go to
hang out with Phil Jackson whatever. Your first day of
vacation was John Stamos's birthday, and you don't, don't. Yeah,
(01:37):
you gotta get some reps. Man, you almost hurt. You
gotta get some reps. Harmon, did he go around? Was
that a full swing or did he did he check
his swing.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Man checked it just shy, just shy made. But in
the end, you know, maybe that was the idea and
he shold it as I started it. To celebrate with
several weeks of Stamos.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Yes, these set Oh, I think that sounds like a
a holiday channel like promotion for like, you know what,
twenty four days of twenty five days of Christmas?
Speaker 3 (02:10):
You know what time does.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
Yeah, he's been on a million shows, so I mean
you piece together episodes of Glee. She's on a show
now with Carrie Washington. She got that, he's on Scandal
wait a minute, but okay, sorry, well there is life
after Scandal. She has to work again, but.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Just making sure it's just just just just maybe even
if so, I mean maybe they did.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
I didn't watch that show, so I don't know.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Well, I mean if I said she's working on Scandal,
you would say, oh, she works for the Commanders.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
No, no, hang on, we'll get to that. We'll get
to that. Wow.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
So Alex Tischer, welcome back. And again you missed John
Stameless's birthday, Jason.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Or did I go to his birthday party? No?
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Because you would have posted pictures.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
I don't post anything.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
You would have know, you would have put it on
your on your podcast. You're yeah, you you would have
hung out with John Statumus and not said.
Speaker 5 (02:57):
I signed an NDA. Do you know how hard he parties?
Speaker 3 (03:02):
You hang out with the Stamos. You don't tell any No.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
He literally was the one that invented the Vegas line.
What happens in Vegas says in.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Vegas here, Put your phone here. My phone doesn't take pictures.
It's just a flip phone. I don't care.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Put it right here, can't do it.
Speaker 5 (03:16):
I was worried when he had me put my keys
in a bowl of other keys.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Well, well, well you know who'd you wind up leaving with?
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Stamos Uh, all the keys are staymos as they were,
it was only him and me there. Oh boy, all right,
So hey, a couple of big things to kick things
off with. Obviously, Hey, we just watched a combined no
hitter the Chicago cub Show Toe Minaga and two relievers
combine to no hit the Pirates twelve nothing in their
(03:45):
win on Wednesday Night, seven innings, turned it over to
Nate Pearson in the eighth, Porter Hodge in the ninth.
It is the fourth no hitter of the baseball season.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
This game was never in doubt.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
The Cubs were up twelve nothing in this going to
the ninth inning and Emon Augus pitch count. He was
at ninety five pitches through seven innings. And again I
say this all the time. If he's at ninety five
through seven, the guy could go out there to pitch
the guy, he can go out there to pitch another inning.
I know, yes, we're doing the right we'd say all
(04:16):
these things. But when you're at ninety five, he's not
at one hundred and seven, Okay, he's not at one
hundred and ten. You could once you get up to
one ten, you get you get into that range.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Okay, I see it.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
But when the guy's that closed, you could put him
out there for another inning. And if it's a long inning, right,
it's easy to take him out because he gives up
a hit, obviously, you take him right out. It's twelve nothing,
so I mean, it doesn't matter. Eleven nothing at the time,
so it doesn't matter. You could take him out and
put another reliever in. If maybe he gets a quick inning,
maybe he keeps it going and suddenly he's going to
the ninth inning at one hundred and one pitches on
the A here's a no hitter. You can wind up.
(04:47):
You can wind up having for your career, having a
phenomenal rookie season here in.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Major League Baseball.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
He could have left him in, could have left him
in for another inning and just see not dead leave
all the way, but just see. Hey, let's see how
you start the inning and it if it's bad or
you're laboring and or there's a couple of walks and
deep counts and we got okay, then we'll take you out.
You get to one o five to one to ten,
we'll take you out of the game.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
Yeah, it's a curiosity of how if there is a
management to his innings because he's approaching a career high
looking back at his jap Japanese League stats and what
he's done, like, we're approaching that mark and the Cubs
are still technically in contention for a wildcard spot and
it's only going as far as he's able to take
them every fifth day. But the point being that he's
(05:29):
been he's been absolute nails right now. Twelve and three
eer just over a three strikeout to walk ratio has
been fantastic, all of those things, and I get it,
like we feel cheated anytime there's a combined no hitter.
It's like does it really count? Then you start going
into the opponent, like if it was the White Sox,
would it count?
Speaker 3 (05:49):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
It's all philosophical, although there would be investigations to see
if it was actually real first like that no one
would believe it.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
You'd have to go through and say, okay, here's evidence
that this.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
Is no, no, no, but see, this isn't a nobody's
watching the White Sox. There's been more White Sox chatter
in the last two to three weeks and there has
been six two thousand and five.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
No people think, Hey, people went on social.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Media and they and they or they AI this, they
AI the no hitter. No, they would have to be
actual investigation to proof that it happened, that what you
saw was real and not something where Hey, no one's
coming to the game. We got nobody walking through the gates.
Let's do that, AI think, where we throw a no hitter.
No one's gonna even know. Come on, let's do it
and see, let's do it.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Let's do No.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
I mean they would know though, I mean because they
nobody would really investigate, because they would have said, ah
that figures have that Elloy Jim and his play of
yesterday three round score on guys running into each other.
We've seen so much stupidity over the course of this season.
But today today, that thirty second, that elusive thirty second
(06:50):
win happened. Sure, Gunner Henderson at a home run off
Jonathan Cannon, but he got the w five and two
thirds ninety five pitches. Good God kut inefficiency. But they
get an eight to one victory Smith, so they stave
off the Hey, we only have thirty one wins. God,
total which is where we were headed.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Yeah, yeah, no, no, no, you're absolutely right about because
I mean you were talking about one hundred and thirty losses.
I know, well, they're not gonna lose every game. They're
not gonna lose every game. They're gonna win one.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
But this is not one you thought they were I
did not think they were getting You thought they were
gonna get one or two against the Angels. You put
up signs for show heyo Tani yesterday say this guy
used to work here.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Yeah, yeah, no, no, I did not see this one coming.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
This is a This is the extended adult swim of
wins in the baseball season for you.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
But see this is positivity, right, White Sox get a
win today, Cubs get a no hitter. Combined, em and
Agua is just a fun guy. Uh in Chicago. He's
embraced being in Chicago, and he takes public transportation, dresses up.
Where's the different uniforms? Right, He's he's been walking around
and bears jerseys and such, so embracing what he is
(07:59):
there and chicagoans love him. So having him as the
anchor of that staff going forward pretty huge win for them.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
So you want to talk about big wins.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
How about this, And I guess you could go to
the stat padding line if you really want to. But tonight,
in a game that will make Rob Manford very proud,
the Indiana Fever and Caitlyn Clark take care of the
La Sparks in a little bit under two hours. Like
this game started and was over really fast, and it
came down to the final play of the game for
(08:31):
a huge historical all outing for Caitlyn Clark. And here's
how it ended.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
Tom more than an Indiana.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Chances gets hit.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
The ball is loose and it's alive. It's alive. Yes,
it's alive. It's there. It is a butt fummer. I
mean that's a welcome back to football season. Yeah, no, no,
you're right, it is. I am right. And tight shirt
his back.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
So I have to understand that these things are going
to happen.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
So okay, I'll give you that ty shirt. But it
takes you out of your rhythm because you haven't had
it in so long. No, it is.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
It is a surprise as many times, and it'll go
back right out the door another two or three days
from now. But enjoy it while it's here. I mean,
that's the meaning of life in a nutshell.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
As many times as I have as I have been
we've done that on the show.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
I still get surprised by it.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
And I don't know why because I'm stupid, but I
still get surprised by that.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
But that one must again.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
It's been a long time, and if Alex isn't here,
it goes into mothballs.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
The Indiana Fever, who had clinched a playoff berth last
night with a couple of losses by the sky, they
beat the Sparks tonight ninety three eighty six. Caitlin Clark
was one rebound shy of a triple double in the
final fifteen seconds of the game.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Would she get it? It's up, it won't go pulls
it down? And this building knows what that means. Kelsey
Mint's gone, what happened?
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Oh it's a triple double for Kate.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
A reaction by Kelsey. I don't know what's happening.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
It's a triple double, yeah right, Angel Reese is running
to Twitter going, oh, it's a stat Patty, come on,
but that's stat panning on. There another amazing night for
Caitlyn Clark and a triple double, and you know you've
heard all the conversation about her. Right tonight twenty four
ten rebounds, ten assists. She also had three steals. The
Fever may never lose again, right, I mean they got
(10:24):
six out of the last seven at home. They are
steaming towards the playoffs. You know, it's no longer Rookie
of the Year conversation. It's really an MVP conversation with
Caitlyn Clark, which.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
We can get into.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
But this is a little bit new, something different on
Caitlin Clark because I feel like everybody's kind of been
beaten over the head with the same conversations. You know
that we had three weeks ago that everyone's just starting
to now about Kaitlyn Clark and Angel Rees and I
was a Sun again.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
I takes a while for the producers to catch up
with their notes.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Oh sure, And to Kitlyn Clark is really it's really
her Asia Wilson for MVP.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
You know, we did that like two three weeks ago. Okay,
it's where we're at.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
But all of the mess that has that has been
going on with this right, and it goes back to
what we talked about the beginning of the season. The
WNBA needs to handle success right, and they've shown they
can't do it because there's controversy surrounding their best, most
popular player. And Charles Barkley, Hey, Charles Barkley waite tonight
he must listen to the show. And he went on
a podcast today and said, you know, I can't believe
(11:18):
how they've screwed this up and how the petty jealousy
that's been going on.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Right, we've talked about this. Did he talk about saving
the network again?
Speaker 4 (11:25):
No?
Speaker 3 (11:25):
I think he did.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
I'm gonna save another network too. Yeah, he's gonna save
all the networks. He's gonna save nighttime primetime network programming.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
That's his woe. Yeah, sure, save it all.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
If he bowls that off without having another bunch of
greenlit reality shows, he's the champ.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
But something a little bit different is that to think
about Caitlin Clark through all of this, All of the
conversation has been really about her, But it's from the
perspective of other people, because these are the people that
are melting down or not understand how to handle the
success of when a new star comes in the league, right,
like we have new stars come in the NFL all
(12:05):
the time. No one treats them like this. Right in
the NBA all the time, no one treats them like this.
But it's always been from that point of view because
Caitlyn Clark, by and large, has stayed away from it all.
She's extremely self aware. She knows who she is, she
knows the impact she has on the game when she's
on the court. She's got that fire, right. There's stuff
that goes on on the court. She's not a shrinking violet.
She's not oh, you're treating me this way. She gives
(12:27):
as good.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
As she gets on the court, but off the court,
there's nothing.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
She goes out and plays, she influences, and it's really
something to see her do this, and really she is taken.
And it's difficult because I can't tell you how many
times where if it was me and I see what
people say about me or think or opine about my
play or certain things where I just wouldn't be able
to take it, and I would say, Okay, you want
to say this about me, Okay, come interview me.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Hey, hey, Fox, ESPN, come to my house. And I
got some things to say.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
But Caitlyn Clark has stayed out of all of it,
and she has not responded to any of it, because
she knows that the best way to shut up haters
and people who whine and complain and jealousy is to
metaphorically nod your head and point and say scoreboard, because
that's all she is doing. Oh, Kaitlyn Clark is gonna
(13:16):
be reality for Katelyn Clark coming into lake.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Uh huh huh scoreboard.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Oh, we don't want to take her for the Olympic team,
even though it's gonna help the sport, because we have
our girls and we don't know how much they would
like her. And boy, your fans might be upset if
they if they don't if she doesn't play enough, uh
huh uh huh scoreboard. Oh, maybe she's not the Rookie
of the Year. ESPN has this weird sort of thing
where Angel Reese actually has the metrics ed uh huh, yeah,
you know what, scoreboard. Oh, I don't know if she's
(13:41):
the mv Asia Wilson so much better. I can't believe this.
And I don't even want to talk about the Indiana
fever and mention Katelyn Clark say, I want to talk
about other people because I don't know.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
I don't think you uh huh huh.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Scoreboard. That's all she's doing. Uh huh, scoreboard, scoreboard, because
what have we just seen over the course the last
few weeks. She has taken her to the next level.
We knew the Caitlin Clark middle Finger Tour was going
to begin right after the break for the Olympics.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
And it has.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
And all she has done is lift her team to
from the bottom of the standings to the middle of
the standings and higher. She's become an MVP candidate. What
she's doing is blowing away what we've seen rookies do
in WNBA when they come in, and she's doing it
by just pointing and saying, scoreboard, scoreboard, that's all scoreboard.
Look scoreboard for me, scoreboard for my numbers, scoreboard for
(14:28):
my team, scoreboard for what we are doing, and scoreboard
for everybody else you think is as good as I am,
because you know she's got that bit because all athletes,
all great athletes, have that bit of selfishness in them
when they know, hey, this is why I succeed. Every
great athlete is at least a little to a lot selfish.
But that's been the way she has fought. This entire
thing is uh huh, scoreboard, And pretty soon even the
(14:50):
most staunch of haters or deniers or jealousy, every time
they say something, it's less and less of a leg
to stand on. If as long as yeah, uh huh huh,
I hear what you're saying, scoreboard, Like, there's not a
lot anybody can say right now. The best you can
hope for is that, Okay, we put it away for
a while. They get to the playoffs and in the
first round or the second round, the fever get blown
(15:12):
out and Caitlyn Clay. They find a way to stop
Caitlyn Clark, and they went and then all the haters
can jump back up and go, ah see, we knew
she wasn't any good, But slowly she's making them all
go away. And that's the best way to do it.
And it's a hard thing to do because you always
want to talk about the haters, Okay, you want.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
I couldn't do it.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
I mean maybe because you and I talked for a living,
so it's difficult, but I couldn't do it. But the
way she's doing it, that's the right way to do it.
And she's succeeding every single day.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Well, I mean, I just always thank people for stopping
by at how about it, Fresco at swollen going. If
they want to get critical and they want to go
after things, we say, you know, I have at it.
It's all opinions and you're all entitled to yours. When
it comes to Caitlin Clark, she's got a good team
around her and has a pretty level head having gone
through this for the last couple of years. Even in
(15:57):
the postgame interview talking about play there was the pictures
circulating right of the team and everybody about their season, goals, playoffs,
playoffs plays hers just said smile underneath it. And in
the postgame interview being asked about being player of the month,
back to back, player of the week, coach of the month,
clinching at playoffs, about all of that stuff, her first
(16:20):
thing was to kind of smile and just say, I
want to make sure Kelsey Mitchell gets her love right.
She's been here seven years and goes deep into the
history of what the team has been through, et cetera.
So all the right things and again on the court, Yeah,
she gives as good as she gets. She's gotten up inside,
you know, forearm shivers into people as well. She's not,
you know, innocent in those regards, and those videotapes are
(16:44):
well chronicled across the social media sphere. But where we're
at now, every player, everybody in the league that catches
a check related to the league, they should at least
give a knowing nod and thank you when they open
their next paycheck or open their at mobile app for
their banking apps when the next check clears, because it's
(17:05):
all because of that arrival and the elevation of the squad.
I did like the announcer during the game who was
really trying to sell you on the Sparks early on,
talking about how tough they were, and the analyst just
came right back and said, well, they've lost seven of eight.
I mean, it's good that they beat in New York
and they did have a win against Las Vegas a
(17:26):
while back, but they are two and fifteen on the
road this year. But you know, it's try you're trying
to elevate folks, but you know, reality sometimes punches in
the face.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
In the phase in the face.
Speaker 1 (17:40):

we still heard this song just so you know, just about,
just so you know.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
And yesterday I went to lunch with one of my
good friends.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
We were paying the bill, getting ready to leave, and
the in restaurant music system played this song and I said, okay,
let's go.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
I'm done, let's go, let's go, and we walked out
before the song was over.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
In my head like a Pevlovian thing, gotta go, gotta
turn it off, gotta leave, gotta leave, let's go, let's pay.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Let's pay. Psychologically, I mean, it's now got a hold
over you. There's no question about it. Let's go. Time
to go, time to go. Uh, you know, just thinking
about this really fast.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
You know what, we'll give you our our big super
Bowl start things off with our big super Bowl pick
for the NFC coming up in a couple of minutes,
Mike and I. But you know, just thinking about the
you know, the Caitlin Clark, the triple double tonight and
how you know. Look, you just she just points and says, scoreboard.
She doesn't get involved in any drama. Scoreboard you don't
like me. Doesn't matter. Scoreboard. Look, it doesn't matter. Scoreboards.
(20:35):
You can't you can't argue with the facts. You can't
argue with what I do. You can't argue with the
team does scoreboard, and I just keep thinking about like that.
That was always a thing that I can't I guess
I was kind of childish doing it.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
But like there's games when.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
You're when when I was playing either hockey or softball, whatever,
we're playing against a team that that wanted to beat
us or everything else. And of course I was always
the big talker, right, I always backed it up, right.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
I My guess is you had a bunch of guys
that were six inches taller than you that you knew, Hey,
they'd come and.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
Kick some ass if need be. Dude.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
I raked in softball and I scored goals all the time.
In hockey, I was I was. I was the guy,
but I was okay with doing it. And every time
somebody would get mad, some would happened and we'd be winning.
It'd beat like an I remember in one hockey game
we were playing a team and uh, they thought they
were gonna beat us, and it was the semi final,
was four to one with about five minutes to go
(21:29):
in the game, and we were waiting for a face off,
and uh, I would tell but I'm off to the
side and I'm in front of the other team's bench
and the other team's bench like they're they're really mad,
and they're.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Going, I can't believe we'll lose. These guys, they stink.
This guy's got, this guy's got this guy's got two
guys two goals. The game was this guy's got two goals?
How does he have two goals?
Speaker 1 (21:47):
I meanwhile, I had like thirty goals in the season,
so I was like, you know, but whatever. The guy
was really mad. He was just guy, I can kid.
This team's not even any good. It's not even And
I turned around because and I turned around because the
ref was like one something was gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
And I kicked up like I was doing the can can.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
And I went scoreboard, look at the scoreboard, and everybody
just starts dying lefting like I'm doing a dense scoreboard.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
Look at the scoreboard.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
And I finished my shift and I came off and
and and our coach said, I think you should you
should stay off here for the next couple of minutes.
After that, I said, yeah, sure, we're going four one.
I got two goals.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
I don't care. But I just turned around in the
COLN scoreboard. I did the can can. Look at the scoreboard.
It was so childish.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
I would say if I were on the other squad,
even if you and I weren't jawing at that point,
you would have you would have gotten a cross check.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
Like when they took Katelyn Clark out of the game
against the Sky, when you were throwing behind the back
passes and laughing on the court. Hey, you come out
of the game now, Kaitlyn, time to come out of
the game.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
Time too, come out of the game.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
Because the best with theirs were they were behind the
back passes that were turnovers. Like it wasn't even Hey,
it was in the spirit of play. And I got
my girl, my teammate an easy layup. No, I bounced
it five feet wider. What are you gonna do? We're
beating the hell out of him, So it doesn't matter.
So yeah, some of that stuff it's a bit much
(23:08):
at times, but you know it's part of the uh
what keeps it intriguing in tongues wagging. Everybody knows what
they're doing.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
Absolutely, UH.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
Managing staff for your supply chain is complex. Let Express
employment professionals provide the workforce you need. With Express you
can lower contingent labor costs and reduce turnover. Go to
expresspros dot com to find a location near you that
is expresspros dot com.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
Well, here we are. We've made it.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
It's NFL Eve By this time tomorrow night, we're talking
about Mahomes and Jackson and looking ahead to the Eagles
and the Packers and as long as they can leave
the hotel to go play the game, because you know
it's dangerous.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
So let's do this right now.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
Mike and I are gonna give you our NFC Championship
Game and Super Bowl picks.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
Yeah, let's go.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Here we go cracking my knuckles and I am picking
an NFC Championship Game double rematch. We've seen this matchup
in the NFC Championship Game twice and I'm I mean,
I'm going all the way back, super Bowler.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
We've seen it twice.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
And the first team that's getting there, everybody's sleeping on them,
but they are loaded. They don't play in a great division.
People are sleeping on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is
a team last year that really got their identity post
Tom Brady.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Look, Baker Mayfield, he is the right fit for what
they're doing. Right.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
I'm seeing some of the same things when Mayfield really
kind of grasp things in Cleveland, but of course he
couldn't figure it out because he's a little imature at
the time. Now getting this third bite at the apple, Hey,
I think I figured it out a bit. And he's
still young enough and had some success. Look at what
he did last year, thirty touchdowns. He's got weapons all
over the place. He fits with what they do. Just
because the guy's failed once when he's given a big
(24:57):
chance doesn't mean it's always going to happen. I know
people are waiting for Mayfield to fall in his face,
but he's got some talented receivers and the running back
situation is so much better than it was a year ago.
I know fantasy owners lover Shod White, right, Oh, he's
so great. Let but he's a volume guy. He's not
gonna keep getting the carry's not gonna keep getting the
responsibility because his numbers are low. He's not very efficient.
(25:19):
But Bucky Irving, Sean Tucker, they drafted Bucky Irving with
a chance to come in and do this. Sean Tucker
they drafted out of Syracuse a year ago. They now
have some dynamic guys to split the job when they
need to. Their offense is loaded, and their defense they
get after you. They have a great defense against the rush.
No one's gonna be able to run the football on them.
They're in a weak division. They're gonna sneak up on
(25:41):
a lot of people. But give me Tampa Bay in
the NFC Championship game where they take on the Los
Angeles Rams. I'd kind of let you know that I've
been thinking about the Rams the last couple of weeks.
I'll make it official now. Look, the Rams are loaded
on offense, they're young. Matthew Stafford shows I have plenty
left in the tent. Look in one year, they went
(26:01):
from one of the oldest teams in the NFL to
one of the youngest, and they have all kinds of
guys on offense. If Kyron Williams gets hurt, which you
know is likely gonna happen, they drafted Blake Korum to
be that guy. Anybody they put in running the football
in Los Angeles succeeds. So I feel pretty good about them.
The last half of the year. They're one of the
top five teams in the NFL. They'll keep it going. Yes,
(26:22):
a lot of changes defensively, I understand this for the Rams,
But tell me the last time Sean McVay has made
moves that have backfired or haven't worked out.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
I mean, we don't give McVeigh and.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
The Rams and their front off is enough credit for
knowing what we can do, when to move on from players,
how to move on from players, what draft picks to
give up, what players to bring in. It's always worked.
And it is a big turnover on defense this year.
I get it, but I'm pretty convinced they'll do the
right thing and be able to be a pretty good defense,
and they just get better and better as a season
(26:54):
goes on. The forty nine is gonna be looking over
their shoulder till the Rams pass them. Tampa Bay and
the Rams in the NFC Championship Game, and give me
the Rams going back to the Super Bowl again for
the third time under Sean McVay. The Rams in the
Super Bowl this year, just like the Florida State fan
it was gonna eat dog Blank the other night said
(27:14):
on social media book it. You're speechless, aren't you, Mike Carmen,
You are speechless? Harmon harmon, Wow, he's got no answers.
I knocked out Mike Harmon, What's happened? Harmon can't even speak.
He knows it's such a good pick. He knows, he knows.
What else can he say? Hey, look I did? I
did Harmon to the Solid last night. Told him the
(27:35):
Bears are surprise playoff team and not going. It's not
going to the Super Bowl, at least not yet. But
Tampa Bay and the Rams. I believe that has completely
knocked Mike Carmen out and he is unconscious and right
now they're trying to somehow revive him.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
Are you back, buddy? Are you back? Power searche but
power search for my rams? Pick? I picked the Rams
and go to the Super Bowl? Boom, power Search. You
were ramming it all day, ramming it all night.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
Well, I went a little bolt, woll chalk and bold
because I got the Eagles right Friday night. We'll start
in Brazil, all the hubbub around that and curious to
see what Sirianni Hurts and company have here. Fantastic first
half of last season and then it went off the rails.
We'll see if they can get it back together. Aj Brown,
(28:20):
DeVante Smith and company. Goddard expected to play and you
bring in Saquon Barkley to give you balance and definition.
The only fear I have is with maybe the tush
push goes away and what does that look like in
the short yardage?
Speaker 3 (28:34):
Is it Barkley?
Speaker 4 (28:35):
Is it more passing efficiency from Jalen Hurts? And then
if I'm not gonna do it this year, no, boy,
when the hell am I going to do Boys sixteen
to one to win? The NFC backed it up with
plenty of Fantasy selections off of this squad.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
It's a certain team from a certain city.
Speaker 4 (28:55):
Begins with c ends with throwing in the middle, his hicckag,
We'll take Bears.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
And how many you really? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (29:04):
You? You loaded up with everybody from Chicago and fantasy
to back up this pick.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
Well, I have them represented on almost every team. I
just finished the uh the in office Guillotine League, and
I took Caleb Williams okay, and eventually came back for
Cole Kamet as tight end two. Nobody wanted him like
he had cooties. So so I've got two of them.
But I'm looking at it from the defensive efficiency once
Sweat came over and what they were as a unit. Now,
(29:30):
some injuries, some issues we've talked about it the last
couple of days. The opportunity UH for the unit is huge.
But we look at the offensive side of things replete
with wide received a little concern that Keenan Allen can't
get through seventeen games. Doesn't said he didn't need the
thirty five million though, So four catches for Roma Dunze
doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
That's just it. Romadons DJ Moore.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
We saw one of the things you got from Hard
Knocks is that you have a number of other guys
that it forced you could probably slide up Tyler Scott,
Kyla Johnson, all those guys that have had an impact
a little bit, and then a three headed running back situation.
And the clincher for me is proof of concept that
Tyson Bagent can actually play some football. So if something
(30:14):
were to befall Caleb Williams for a game or some
stretch along the way, you have a more than capable backup,
something most NFL teams cannot say as they enter Week one.
A lot of question marks walking over guys dressed like
the Riddler in that quarterback room. So I've got the
Eagles and I've got the Bears.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Now if I'm not right I hope you're right, because
you know what I want. I want to see all
that video of the Fog Bowl, Like, that's what I
want to go back.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
Oh, that's one of the great games all the time.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
The last time the Eagles and Bears met with so
much on the line was the Fog Bowl. And all
the interviews they'll do, like with Randall Cunningham and Keith Jackson.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
And all the guys.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
That's what I really want, Like I want a thirty
for thirty on the Fog Ball, like.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Going all the way back to the end of nineteen
eighty eight. Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, I like it all right.
So now and going to the super Bowl? Are you
are you? Are you taking the Bears for the Super Bowl?
Are you taking the Bears to go to the Super Bowl?
Speaker 4 (31:09):
Well, based on the Coffin Corner, punts of tailor and
the brilliance of Cairo Santos, I can't take it that
far and not but I will. I'm gonna take the
Eagles to go to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
Eagles in this So there it is our NFC Championship
Game picks Bucks and the Rams, Eagles and the Bears.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
The Fog Bowl Revenge Game Exit how about.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
A Fresca exit Swollen Dome The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
We got more coming up in ninety seconds.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
But right now, let's find out what's trending in the
wide world of sports from buying Fenley b What do
you got for?
Speaker 7 (31:46):
Yeah, Jason, Mike, I'm hoping you guys will do the
CFL after this.
Speaker 5 (31:49):
You'll break that.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
We we are. I'm gonna take the rough Riders over
the rough Riders. We're gonna run out a bunch of
tennis stuff.
Speaker 7 (31:56):
Yes, yeah, So speaking of that, why don't we start there, Mike,
that's a that's a good segue.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
Because I was not asking for it.
Speaker 7 (32:02):
Well, you know, it does make for a pretty nice
transition in what's going on right now from Flushing Meadows.
It is quarterfinal action US Open, World number one on
the men's side, Yonick Sinner just dropped the second set
to the five seed in Daniel Medvedev, so they split
the first two sets, Cinner getting on the board first
in set number three.
Speaker 5 (32:22):
He's up one love and this best of five.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
Well, and as Chris Berman would say, and TJ. If
Sinner wins a match up with the Saints awaits.
Speaker 5 (32:33):
Wow, wow, well well done, well done, well played.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
Hey you guys could laugh with Cinner more cry with
the Saints j All.
Speaker 7 (32:41):
Right, well I'm waiting for you guys. You guys are
talking about the NFL. And of course, as we look
at the women's side of tennis, the American the sixthy
Jessica Pagoula, whose parents owned the Buffalo Bills. She won
her quarterfinal affair six two six ' four against world
number one Egas Fiatec on the women's side, so Pegoula
is onto the Grand Slam Semi five final for the
first time in her career. Let's go to Major League Baseball,
(33:03):
where Mike Harmon's White Sox came up with a huge win.
Nobody saw that coming eight to one against the Orioles,
and that's significant because the Orioles with that loss for
the time being, they now drop into a typher first
in the Al East with the Yankees. However, the Yankees
are right now are currently getting beat down by the
Rangers tend to in Texas and they're in the top
(33:26):
of the eight. The Angels are hounding the Dodgers sixth
to nothing. There that is in the fifth inning also
the Padres no runs to show far as well as
we keep it in the NL West with the Tigers
ahead three to nothing, they're in the third inning. Also
a Mariners five, the A's one that is in the
first or excuse me, in the fourth and some of
the completed games of notable status. The Phillies four to
(33:49):
two they take out the Blue Jays. So the Phillies,
they are now leading the A excuse me, the NL
East by seven games. They have first place there with
the win for the Reds that was twelve to five
against the Astros. It was a ten ending game and
it went the Marlins way four to three against the Nationals.
And then lastly, guys, I'll mention, see this really quick
(34:09):
wins for the Braves, the Mets, Yes, the Mets. The
Cubs had the combined no hitter, three pitchers twelve to
nothing winners against the Pirates. The Cubs are now four
and a half games out of that third and final
wildcard spot in the NL, which is owned currently by
the Braves after their five to two win against the Rockies.
And lastly, Jason and Mike, as I get it back
to you, the Mets did have that win eight to
three against the Red Sox, but still the Mets. If
(34:32):
the season ended right now, Jason and Mike, New York
is not in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
I can't believe in.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
Then today, no season and tomorrow maybe does the season
end on Saturday?
Speaker 5 (34:44):
You've got some time, is what you're saying.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
Does the season end in another four weeks?
Speaker 5 (34:49):
Yes, and you're only half game out of that third
and final spot.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
And if you guys lose to Night, were only two
games behind you.
Speaker 5 (34:54):
So just so you know, okay, okay, all right, you
know that fair game?
Speaker 4 (34:58):
Yeah, okay, all right, yeah, all right. What are you
guys doing back out of the playground?
Speaker 3 (35:03):
If the season ends? Sure, I love that.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
But the season doesn't end today. No, But if it did,
but it doesn't, it doesn't. Season doesn't end today.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
What if Rob Manford just stepped in and decided, I
haven't been hurt.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
From from our in a while. Let me do something dumb.
I want a guy.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
I want to give a trophy to an owner, and
I can't do it if we play the whole season up?
Speaker 5 (35:22):
Does he do all of his interviews drunk, by the way,
like the.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
Whoa whoa allegedly whoa whoa whoa.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
Thank you, Brian Finley, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
Uh. The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen live for
the tirec dot com Studios.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Coming up next coming out.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
The two teams that sports books love the most in
the NFL.
Speaker 3 (35:44):
Yeah one, I'm just not buying and that's gonna surprise you.
It's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Carmon Lifemthetirack dot Com Studios. As part of our
big NFL preview night, we just picked the NFC Championship
Game and our NFC representatives for the Super Bowl. We'll
have more NFL, more big picks. But now a team
(36:24):
I'm not see. I can't say I'm turning my back
on them. I just don't believe in them like I
did last year. Big article today out of Vegas. The
two teams the sports books love the most as Super
Bowl favorites are.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
The Chiefs and the Lions. Those are the teams, Chiefs
the Lions.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
That was it and you remember last year, I was
just one bad second half away from the Lions. To
the suit of my bold prediction, I could have retired
on that, and I would have just made money on
the on the residuals for the rest of my life.
I was one bad second half short. Obviously, it's easy
to love the Chiefs this year.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
How could you not.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
The Lions look every bit as good as last year. Defensively,
they may even be better. They saw some of their
deficiencies decided to address them. There's no reason to not
like them, right, there's no reason to not. But I
don't love them like I did last year. And I
know I'm gonna catch all kinds of hell from Pam's family.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
Well you don't believe it.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
I know.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
I say, hey, look, I got you as far as
I could a year ago. Someone else could pick up
the mantlin. No, you just come back and say.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
Harmon says, the Bears are going to the NFC title game.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
Yeah, here's his phone number.
Speaker 1 (37:38):
You could text Harmon And he's up very early, so
it doesn't matter. Whatever time you wake up, you can
text him.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
He's away. I'm up early, I'm up late, ready to go.
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
What was the Philip Seymour Hawkin line from Almost Famous
I stay up late.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
I do a lot of speed. But the reason I
don't like the Lions isn't because of the Lions. Last
year was such a down year in the NFC. By
the time we got to the playoffs, who else was
really playing well beside San Francisco in Detroit? Right, Green
Bay had the big game sent home? Right? We had
(38:12):
we had Ted Bay had the big game sent home?
Speaker 4 (38:14):
Right?
Speaker 1 (38:14):
No, but nobody else you couldn't. The Eagles were floundering.
The Cowboys clearly weren't any good. Right, You're going through
all the teams down the row. The Rams were coming,
but there just wasn't enough for them. By the time
he got to the playoffs last year, there was nobody.
It was the effect of all the talent being in
the AFC last year, right, That's where all the talent was.
(38:35):
It was a path of least resistance for the lines
to the to the NFC Championship Game.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
But look at what happened this year.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Look who got better in the offseason that that that
are now ready to take next bigger steps. The Packers,
the Bears, the Bucks, the Falcons, the Rams. They have
all taken next steps. They have all become good teams.
They've either solidified how they finished last year or they
improved on what they needed to the beginning of the
(39:04):
in the offseason for this year. These are teams that
really you didn't think about them as real contenders at all.
Speaker 3 (39:10):
Last year.
Speaker 1 (39:11):
Hey, the Packers surprised you in that first playoff game
with Jordan Love right, But now, hey, they make a
big move running back Josh Jacobs.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
Everything is much better in Green Bay.
Speaker 1 (39:19):
Chicago drafts Caleb Williams, they get all the playmakers in town.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
Tampa Bay just gets better.
Speaker 1 (39:24):
Atlanta goes and gets Kirk Cousins, takes care of the
quarterback room and gets coaches in there that are actually
going to give the ball to be John Robinson, I
mean allegedly.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
And the Rams continue to.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
Unfold and segue from year to year, getting better and better,
getting younger and younger. These teams weren't at that level
last year. I just gave you five teams in the NFC.
That's why I don't like the Lions. The competition that
they have is too great this year, where it wasn't
as great last year for them to take on the
league and play fast and get up and down the
(39:54):
field and score like they do. I still love the Lions,
it's just the conference has gotten tighter and gotten better.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (40:00):
I think the biggest thing that's curious for me is
if you look at the Lions schedule, they play all
but three games indoors. Three games and one of those
at Lambeau is before the weather turns. Although the weather
anymore you never can tell. Right, We're into September and
it's one hundred and eighty four degrees near the Fox
(40:22):
Sports radio studios, So go fry an egg on the sidewalk.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
So you have that going for you.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
But we've talked about, you know, the Lions, Hendon Hooker
and what you have, and you know, Jamiir Gibbs starting
with an injury is a little concerning. They say he's
going to be good to go, and I love David
Montgomery there, but it is the kind of thing of
trying to repeat when we go through the rest of
the NFC, it is a much more challenging path than
(40:50):
it was a year ago. Now. I'm not a believer
necessarily that the Falcons are world beaters, but on any
given Sunday, as long as Captain Kirk's upright, you'll have
balance in that offense, something you didn't have a year ago.
The Seahawks, they're curious, right, Just go all the way
down the line, even in division. Just go back to
the Vikings a long shot to win the division, but
(41:12):
if Sam Darnold is functional, they've got a really good
roster and Hockinson'll be back week five, so opportunity for
chaos ensues.
Speaker 1 (41:21):
It's not that I don't love the lie. I still
love the lines. I'm talking to Pamas family. I just
don't love them like I did a year ago. It's okay,
it's okay. They're still love the boy. These teams, they've
all gotten better. We got more NFL, including the craziest
story of the day coming up next right here, Jason
and Mike, this is Fox Sports Radio.
