(00:49):
Two minutes ago on the third quarter, remember the game
started late because of the lightning delay. Mother Nature, you
will not take football from us.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
You will have.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
It still a one ty to ten lead for the
Chiefs over the Ravens. Game getting a little as if
the first half wasn't sloppy, getting a little bit sloppier
here in the second half. Ravens do have the football
nearing midfield, and it really is tough because it's one
of those games where you feel like the Ravens and

(01:18):
Lamar Jackson have been playing really well, and here they
are down ten, about to go to the fourth quarter.
He's gonna be up now at around eighty five or
ninety yards rushing. He's sixteen out of twenty five throwing
the football and still there down ten. Great work by
the Chiefs in the third quarter, more ball control and
time of possession, evening out the yardage overall, evening out

(01:41):
up in the too sixties for both. The thing that is,
you brought it up before, so it's imperative to jump
on it now is the inability of the Ravens receiving
core to get any kind of space because every time
Lamar Jackson seems to go back to pass read read
All right yet and I'll do it myself. Yeah, no,
he's doing the whole thanos. Fine, I'll do it myself.

(02:04):
The Ravens wide receivers are Zay Flowers is a good receiver.
Jay Flowers is not justin Jefferson. He's not a number one. No,
he's not as they Flowers, but he's a good receiver.
But that's been the whole thing with Lamar Jackson's entire
career was Okay, let's bring in some good receivers. Well, still,
this is how they throw the football. Okay, let's concentrate

(02:26):
on running backs and make sure we run the ball
and maybe the receivers we try to figure out. And
still it's the same kind of completion. It's it's strange.
But at this point, I think, if you're the Ravens,
you have to say, we need some guys that can
create some kind of separation because this is this is
a really bad wide receiver room. It really is. And
I know that they've tried different ways. We've tried to

(02:47):
bring in number one guys, we tried to bring in depth.
We try, but you gotta keep trying to just don't
do the same thing. Do something different at least maga
where hey, these guys are great possession receivers. They can
throw the ball short. It doesn't need to be able
to throw the ball along because look Lamar Jackson throwing
the ball along. Look it's a dice roll. But if
he can throw the ball short and he's able to

(03:07):
own the middle of the field because of the crossing
patterns said that he's able to throw really well at
and throwing on the run, like that's kind of what
you need. You can't come out here every year with
just this DA And I can't believe we're having this
conversation knowing how bad the Chiefs wide receiving Corps was
in the first half. But the Ravens wide receiver it
scares nobody. Then nobody is afraid. And now you've see

(03:28):
the last few minutes, it's defaulted to Lamar Jackson dropping
back to pass, not seeing anything, and he's taken off
way sooner than he was in the first half. There
were some design runs in the first half that were
taking advantage of Lamar Jackson what he does well, some
fakes to Derrick Henry terrific. But this seems like we're
back to the old. Hey what do I see?

Speaker 1 (03:46):
I don't see anything, so I'm taking off. He nearly
ran for a touchdown about forty five seconds ago, all
the way down to the five yard line, but holding
penalty brings it back. He runs the ball in the
next play too, and gains about three or four yards.
So I feel like getting back to what it used
to be. And I look at this and I go man,
this is not a problem. It's gonna get better. The

(04:06):
Ravens wide receivers are not gonna suddenly all get better
and they're gonna figure this out like this. This is
a wide receiver room that you go, man, this is
something they can struggle with all season long.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Yeah. The holding call that was made was one of
those spirit versus letter of the laws because the defensive
lineman really sold the hell out of it. It didn't
seem to be much of a hold, but it is
where Lamar Jackson was able to find his daylight. So sure,
sell and it pulls back. But you look at the
breakdown to this point, seventeen receptions for the Ravens, five

(04:40):
by Justice Hill, six by Jay Flowers, four by Isaiah Likely.
There you go one for Andrews, one for Rashad Bateman,
and then you got two targets, zero catches for Derick Henry. Conversely,
Jeeves aren't exactly lighting it up there. I oh no, right,
Rashid Rice has found some space like he and and

(05:00):
Patrick Mahomes have obviously picked up where they left off
the back end of last season when Rice started to emerge.
But otherwise you got one catch for Justin Watson. You
got one catch for a XAF you're worthy and that's
it from the wide receivers. Kelsey's got three. Uh, Noah
Gray two for twenty four. Congratulations on the contract extension. Yeah,
it's nice. It's not for him. Yeah, well, I mean, look,

(05:21):
they got offset Chiefs a Haulic. Somehow can we do
something so people stop talking abot Chiefs the Haulic? Is
there anybody we can give money to? Ah hang on? Noah, great, great,
give me a three year deal. Do you think angry
blogger said just like chief a Halic Noah Gray steals.
Oh no, wow, you're going to hell for that. You
know you're going to hell? Oh, come on, tell me

(05:43):
there wasn't some angry Chiefs blogger that did it. You're
going to hell for that? No, you're going to I
was pretty sorry. You're going to hell. Right somewhere out there,
somebody will laughing. Satan's going to meet you at the whatever,
not the Pearly Gates, at the Blood Gates. He's gonna go. Yes,
mister Armond, that joke you made, that timing. I believe
it was early September that got you in and is

(06:04):
going to roll over for a belly rush that that,
and I like all the dead people that you bring
up on the show all the time, especially the ones
that are here. That guy's over there, they want to
meet him. They all want to say hello to you.
Go ahead, I'll lined up to welcome you here. They are,
just you have to get past the river sticks to
get there. Late where you're with me, I'm fine.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
So that's where we're at right now. Twenty to ten,
And yeah we'll get to the Ravens receivers. Both teams
with receiver issues. But still uh but as you said,
I say this, Isaiah likely catches a what is it
about a sixty yard touchdown pass?

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Nice move to get open and some brown the side downs.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Lamar Jackson finds Isaiah likely on the sideline.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
He tiptoes the rest of the way. This ball is
about about twenty air yards and the Chiefs do a
horrendous job of tackling and trying to force him back
to the middlefielder knocking him out of bounds, and he
gets all the way down the sideline, a little bit
of a stop to let one of the Chiefs defenders
run by, and goes into the end zone for a touchdown.

(07:13):
Now twenty to sixteen extra point pending for Justin Tucker,
and now suddenly we will have a game with about
fourteen and a half to go in the fourth quarter.
Right that little jump step after the catch, though, Look,
a tight end catches one. All right, great, Well, but
he was the guy we talked about coming into the
season that he was gonna have to take a big
step up and the dual tight end threats, we're gonna

(07:33):
be the main catalyst for this passing attack. And well,
he makes a move niftier than anything we've seen from
a wide out. Clearly they're listening to the show. Hey, ed,
idiot Jets fan just said we are. Anybody can catch balls.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
I'm listening. Shouldn't you just be calling plays? No, I'm
listening to the show because they're fun.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
I like listen. They're talking about us. Can somebody make
it play? All right? All right, cool, coach, I'll do
it for that. Well, they said they like the tight ends,
just expected to see more of them. We just talked
about how he had four catches for thirty eight yards.
So again, twenty to seventeen. Chiefs lead the Ravens early
in the fourth quarter of More on this game coming
up in a few minutes. Meanwhile, a big injury today
because all of this quarterback derby all off season long,

(08:15):
who's gonna win? Russell Wilson justin fields. Russell Wilson held
out of practice today. He is suffering from a calf injury,
the same injury that kept him out in the beginning
of training camp. And the Steelers say, well, we're keeping
him out out of an abundance of caution, the abundance zone. First,
I want to say, I want someone just to say,

(08:35):
this is the bare minimum of caution, like it's always
an abundance of caution. Like no one says, hey, we're
doing this, We're ready to put him back out there.
This is just the bare minimum of caution, that's why. But
an abundance of caution. He didn't need to work today.
We still got a couple of days. But abundance of caution,
we're really looking out for him. Is that required by
the CBA to show that you really care?

Speaker 1 (08:57):
I think I think that's a CBA and actually says, hey,
they always have to show an abundance of cars, okay, right, yeah,
And to define what an abundance is.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
Does that mean you get two mints on the pillow. Right,
Here's what abundance means, and that's how it means when
you go forward to here. Oh okay, but two big
takeaways from this Number one not that look, I'm not
a doctor, but when you see people with balky calfs,
how many times does that turn into an achilles injury?

Speaker 1 (09:24):
We've seen it with Kevin Durant. We saw it last
year with Aaron Rodgers who had a balky calf beginning
of practice for the Jets. Oh no, everything is fine,
everything's and then he blows out his achilles in Week one.
So there is a correlation between not saying that's gonna
happen to Russell Wilson, but just this is the second
time with a calf injury going into the season. Load

(09:46):
up on the Falcons opening week, Load up on the
Falcons on Sunday, because the Steelers are gonna put Russell
Wilson out there if they have to tape his leg
back on if it falls off, because they have gone
so far down down the road to ensure that he
wins this starting quarterback job for some reason. Again, what
do I say, find someone who loves you like Mike

(10:07):
Tomlin loves making excuses for Russell Wilson.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
You're gonna put Russell Wilson out there even though he's
not gonna be mobile, He's not his his his escape factor,
which is what he needs, is not going to be
the same, oh, which hasn't been the same anyway.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
And he'll be a sitting duck in the pocket because
he's not gonna be able to do his normal thing.
That's gonna be awful and it's going to be difficult
for the Steelers, and the Falcon is going to rack
up a lot of sacks. But it doesn't matter because
the Steelers they have to put him out there. They
went to the wall so many times to say, he
is our guy, he is our guy. He's not very good,
he is our guy. He's injured, he is our guy.

(10:39):
Justin feels might biet, but he is our guy.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
He is our guy. We're gonna put him out there
for the final preseason games. He can show us what
he can do. He completed one pass. Take him out
of the game. He's man. Hand off to court Darryl
Patterson was fantastic. It really it is. Find someone who
loves you like Mike Tomlin lovesils excuses for him, so
you know he's going to be out there. There's no
way the Steelers do all of this and then say, hey,

(11:04):
Justin go get him. No, there is absolutely no way
that happens. They're gonna do everything to put Russell Wilson
out there because that's where they're at, and they feel
if we put Justin Fields out there, what happens if
Justin Fields plays? Well, I'll even go this far. Let's
just say something crazy ass happens and you really can't
put Russell Wilson out there, right, You really can't put
him out there. He can't practice all week, really can't

(11:25):
put him out there. Justin Fields could start and he
could throw for three touchdowns and run for two, and
it would be Wow, look at this, and Pittsburgh could
win forty eight to seventeen. Look at Justin Fields three
hundred yards passing three touchdowns, he runs for one hundred
and twenty two yards and two scores. What a great day.
Pittsburgh will still go.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
Back to Russell Wilson the next week, and Mike Tommon
will say something like losing your job for injury, some
kind of crazy thing to get Russell Wilson back. That's
how much they want Russell Wilson to succeed when they
don't see what's in front of them, which is Justin
Fields is more talent to guy. He's better and you
need to see him. And at some point it's going
to happen. The Steels are gonna have no choice because

(12:05):
they're gonna be losing games and we're not getting anything
for a quarterback position. But you could put Fields out
there and he could have five touchdowns and it would
still Hey, great by Justin He's doing great with us.
But you know, hey, when Russ is ready, he's our guy.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
What are you talking about? He's I could see that.
I see. I could close my eyes and see that
like a movie in my mind, and it's in three D.
And not only that, I'm sitting in the D box
seats where when you're running in and the seat's going
or there's explosions going on and then the seat is
going up and down. That's how much I can feel
that happen. They'll put him out there no matter what.
But if they just can't, because whatever reason, they will

(12:39):
still put him back in even if Justin Fields goes nuts.
Guarantee take a deep breath. In the words of the
famous fan from the other night for Florida State, let's
go book it nicely done. Way to bring it all back,
Way to tie a bow on it. Look. We talked
about this a lot in the preseason and the months
leading up to it. Wilson and Field were in to

(13:02):
for the Steelers. While I am long on record of
using terms far more severe than washed to describe Russell Wilson,
folcsill point to the touchdown interception ratio and the yardage
and everything he was able to do last year with
the diminished run of receivers, some injuries of the running

(13:23):
back position. All that to say, the thing you circle
is to turnover Mark from his interceptions and his fumbles.
It's the one thing for Justin Fields that you haven't
been able to coach out of him. Right. We joked
about it with Doug Peterson and what he had to
say about mac Jones down in Jacksonville. There's a lot
that we like. He's growing and he's come along in

(13:45):
our system great, but some days we still got to
coach that New England out of him. We still got
to get that Patriots Mac Jones out of him. With
Justin Fields. I watched it for years. I watched every
doubt of it. There's a lot of electrifying play It's got,
Like Bill Belichick was talking about with Caleb Williams today
right being asked about, you know, how impressed were you

(14:08):
with his preseasons, Like, well, he did a couple of
things that were great highlights. He was ten of twenty,
and he made some mistakes, and there weren't as many
flash plays as folks would like to think with justin Fields.
There was some flash plays, but there was also the
scramble scramble app he's got the loaf of bread out there,
that's done, and we saw it in the preseason with
multiple times. Which is why Russell Wilson's gonna get every

(14:29):
opportunity because look, this their win loss record, right and
they're at eight and a half, and I bring the
Bears up right because we tie them together both at
eight and a half. All about where your perception is
on things is the fact that they're not scoring, but
what twenty two points a game? Maybe if they're lucky,
it's all gonna be predicated on defense. They're also not

(14:50):
helped by the fact that Jalen Warren is entering the
season injured as well. Right, that's not helping matters. And
then we look at the receiving corps and who are
you afraid of? George Pickens has his moments, Friar Mouth
has his moments, Friar Mooth's injured a lot, and the
rest of the receiving corps has a giant question mark
over it. But for the Steelers, the margin of error

(15:11):
is so minimal, which is why Wilson gets the nod.
Even if he's not as electrifying and doesn't have as
high a ceiling, his floor is a little bit higher.
He's no longer mister Unlimited, but he'll take care of
the football and that equals victories in the National Football League.
Founding man Hey load up on the Falcons because the're

(15:33):
gonna put Wilson in b if justin fields is great.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
Trade him in fantasy because they'll go back to Russell
Wilson just because because.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
Current line sitting at three and a half, Falcons favored
at home, the line open to two and a half.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Exit out about a Fresco exit swelling down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, And as
I say this, as I was ready to trade Patrick
Mahomes in fantasy right now. Mahomes find Xavier Worthy down
the sideline for a touchdown to make it a twenty
six seventeen game. Extra point pending looked like a blown coverage.

(16:11):
Gonna gonna watch it again on the replay, Yeah noo,
no safety help. Looked like he thought there was help
from the safety. Worthy is wide open. He catches his
second pass the night. It's the second touchdown for Xavier
Worthy to give the Chiefs what is going to likely
be a ten point lead with about ten minutes to
go in the fourth quarter's scoring. It is now twenty

(16:33):
seven to seventeen. You are very close to the over
under forty six and a half. I'm looking at you,
which I told you. I loved the over underwell talked about.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
It last night.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
So I feel okay that I'll get I thought we'd
blow past the over under, but I love the over under.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
I said it last night. I feel okay now that
we're that, we're just about I thought the kickers would
would give us a little more help. And then Tucker
missed that fifty three yard that's still that's still too
soon for me. With that still, I almost throw a
hammer through a TV like I was in an old
Apple commercial.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
Du We'll have more on this game coming up next,
plus a huge retirement in sports today. That's next, Jason

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live from Thetirack dot Com Studios. And wow,
did the Ravens just put the entire game on one play?

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Down?

Speaker 1 (19:27):
Twenty seven to seventeen to the Chiefs. After Xavier Worthy's touchdown,
Ravens are driving their face with a fourth and three
into the yard line. Now, obviously it's a two score game,
you need to make sure you get at least one. Here,
they go for it on fourth down, Derrick Henry gets
the three yards. You don't make it there. That's the game.

(19:48):
The game is over at that point. And I get that, Okay,
we want to get a touchdown because potentially if the
see if the Chiefs get the ball back, we want
to hold them to a field goal, so we know
we can get a touchdown going down the other way.
But wow, you you you just put an all or
nothing play out there when you didn't have to, where
you could have kicked the field goal and we're down seven. Look,

(20:08):
it would have been the over. I know that, you
know I want the over, it would have been the
over and I get that, but at the same time,
it's wow. I mean, you really took a chance where
you really didn't have to. And and now and now
I feel like, okay, now, now aren't you Aren't you in?
You're in for you know, four downs no matter what,
because if you go for it on fourth and three
from the twenty, you're gonna go for it on fourth
and three from the three. You know, a fourth and

(20:30):
goal from the three.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
Well, you're also playing the clock and the fact that
do you trust your secondary one. We've seen a lot
of space for both Worthy and Rice as this game
has gone on. It's at five minutes, just over five
minutes here, and you've only got one time out in
the two minute warning lift. You've already used two of
your timeouts. As we go to third and six, you

(20:52):
threw the ball away the Chiefs trying to argue for
a grounding penalty. Ball went past the line of scrimmage
as he went out and flipped it away while he
had a defender hanging on him. But yeah, curiosity Harbaugh
losing his mind on the sideline. Oh doesn't he? Yeah,
he kind of always does. Yeah, we'll see if his
brother matches on pacing for pacing later on this weekend.

(21:14):
But yeah, for the Ravens outside of Isaiah likely and
a couple of plays early in the first half for
Zay Flowers, it's been tough to try to find playmakers. Otherwise,
it's been an awful lot of Lamar Jackson just putting
on his cape and trying to make whatever he can
out of each play.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
So we'll have more on this again time out on
the field. Right now, twenty seven to seventeen, five minutes
to go in the fourth quarter, Ravens are knocking on
the door to make this a one score game. Steve
Desagu will have more on this coming up in a
few minutes on what's trending. But big retirement we saw today,
I think everybody woke up and saw something that maybe
not surprised because it didn't surprise me, but just just well,

(21:53):
the end of the era as it is coming so quickly.
Alex Morgan retires from soccer. She's going to play one
more game, she's retiring from all soccer, from the US
women's national team, from the NWSL. She's also pregnant. She's
gonna have another child, so there was.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
The one that was kind of buried there, right, and
it's like we thought the retirement was coming. It's like, oh,
by the way, we're expanding our family. Yeah yeah, I
couldn't get the video to play for the longest time.
It must have been so so trafficked, right, I mean,
because there's a big news to start a day, right,
we got the NFL first game, but like this hits
and the outpouring of emotion and the different tributes that

(22:32):
came through, But that initial video that she put out,
like I couldn't get hit the loads for the longest time.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Yeah, look this look, we've talked about this and it
was an incredible career for Alex Morgan and eventually people's
careers end. You wanted to think that maybe she could
have had the Megan Rappino role on the women's national
team the next few years, one more World Cup where
she would maybe plu come out off the bench in
the seventieth or seventy fifth minute if we need a goal.

(22:59):
But you could see in the last year she was done, right.
She couldn't even hit her penalties, which was something she
always had done well.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
But that was the thing. Though, Rapino still could be
used as a you know, special penalties, and that's what
Morgan coming on as a striker. The speed wasn't there, right,
You're always towing the line and trying to cheat the
off side line and oftentimes the flag went up.

Speaker 1 (23:23):
Yeah, she look, she's the biggest star that soccer had
the last fifteen years she helped carry the women's national team.
Didn't make the roster for the Olympics. Was upset about it,
but quite honestly, I kind of get the timing of
this because from the you know, look, unbelievable career. But again,
it was kind of over the United States women's national team.

(23:43):
Emma Hayes wanted to move on to the next phase
of what the women's team is going to be, and
Rapino and Morgan are still reminders.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
Of the old era. Hey, you need new leaders, new players,
new stars. So she's left off the Olympic roster, which
I get because you can only take eighteen and she
hadn't been playing well, right, you know how many times,
like you said, how many times she offside when she
really didn't have the burst anymore. She was just it
was just done. It was her time. But winning the
gold medal in the Olympics and seeing that we are

(24:13):
now going to be built on the Trident for the
next seven or eight years. The next two World Cups
with Swanson and Robin and Sophia Smith, they were incredible together.
This is who the US women's national team is now
for the next eight years. So it's it and there's
no and there's no real room for her. So now
if she's going to have a baby again. Coming back

(24:34):
from that again, you could see already that the United
States said, hey, great career, this is kind of where
we're at. And so she makes the announcement now, but
you know, she thinks she can still play, being thirty
five not thirty eight, thirty nine. It was a difficult day,
but not unexpected. And you know, think back all the
great stuff she brought to US women's soccer. But this

(24:54):
was expected because you know, not that there's a silver lining,
but seeing her retire, Okay, all the all the old
old guard has gone now. But the team is in
really good hands with Emma Hayes and the Trident and
now you have some really good players defensely are coming up.
Germa is fantastic, so you're starting to see that next
generation really assert themselves and we're back to being the
number one team in the world. And I don't think

(25:15):
that's going anywhere.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
Great.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
Yeah, you call them the Trident, they call themselves the
Triple Espress. So I like the Triplets. I mean, Troy
Aikman can fight us over that. I don't care. Triplets
is fun. Do you think that trustrated Lamar Jackson at all?
Troy Aikman is there holding up a sign I'll see
you in courts, so we can see he's holding signs

(25:40):
like in the Xcess video when they just keep dropping
the pacers, see you in court. That's how it's gonna
go down. He's in the pay payment makes enough, the
medicine going full on in excess. Bob Dylan, whoever flipping
a bunch of cards that talk about lawyers, legal processes,
pictures of the ambulance chasing lawyers that are on the
billboards across southern California, all of those things. But the

(26:05):
point being that you do have a natural changing of
the guard here. It really is a new set of
faces leading the US women's national team gets an easy
time to do it. It's easy and the right time
to do it. But you can't understate how important she
was to the game. You know, I put up just
the quick thing with Madeline like that was the first person,

(26:27):
like she got to know. And then because she played defense,
she gravitated towards Julie ERTs and we had that. But
Alex Morgan was the entry for so many young girls
that are playing soccer right now. She is, she's the
face of what it became. And even in the final
throws right there, she was still on every advertising campaign. Yeah,
how bad was that? Hey? You went her and so

(26:48):
serious Smith. You don't need to choose, you can have
both of us. Ooh, Emma Hayes picked Sophia Smith and
didn't pick you for the team. So it's all about yeah, wow,
that was Hey, the check clear. And I'm sure she
was okay with it. She probably cringed a little when
she saw it during commercial breaks.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
But you know she understood much. If I was a ragent,
I would just say, hey, that's just unfortunate wording. You know,
who can see that coming?

Speaker 3 (27:15):
Unfortunately timing, you know what are you gonna get?

Speaker 1 (27:19):
Ah, so great career. United States women's team is in
a great, great place right now. Meanwhile, things getting pretty
interesting in Kansas City, we have hit the over and
now there's controversy as Patrick Holmes gets hit out of bounds.
Let's find out all about this and more with what's
trending with special delivery. Steve to Seger, who has told

(27:40):
me privately the late hit out of bounds is his
favorite football player really.

Speaker 3 (27:45):
Yes, yes, yeah.

Speaker 4 (27:47):
By the way, you notice Patrick Mahomes, whether he's touched
or not, does go down out of bounds.

Speaker 3 (27:52):
Oh yeah, yeah, you got. I mean he could be
running and just fall down. He can get hit out
of bout it happens to him.

Speaker 4 (27:57):
Kansas City has the ball in the lead twenty seven
to it's about four minutes to go. There are multiple
fouls on this play, so apparently the run is going
to be brought back offset redoce second bud Okay. Kansas
City is in the lead by a touchdown here and
remember Casey in the first half got Xavier Worthy twenty
one yard touchdown run. In the second half, they picked

(28:18):
up a thirty five yard touchdown reception Worthy from Patrick
Mahomes who has two hundred and seventy nine yards passing
one TV one interception. Isaiah Pacheco with a one yard
touchdown run. Second half. The leading ground gainer for the
Ravens is to say the least Lamar Jackson fourteen carries
one hundred ten yards. Dereck Henry had an early five

(28:40):
yard touchdown run. It capped the opening drive of the season.
Henry has thirteen carries forty six yards and that TV
again Casey with the ball and the lead under four
minutes to go. Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson was limited in
practice due to calf tightness. Pittsburgh running back Jalen Warren
returned to full practice after a hamstring in Falcons tight

(29:01):
end Kyle Pitts practice fully after being limited yesterday with
a hamstring injury. Forty nine Ers running back Christian McCaffrey
was limited with a calf injury. Bears veteran wide receiver
Keenan Allen was limited again today with a heel injury,
as was Bear's defensive end Montes Sweat with a toe injury.
Bengals wide receiver t Higgins was limited at practice with
a bad hamstring. Wide receiver Jamar Chase practiced in a

(29:24):
limited fashion again as he wants a new contract. Vikings
wide receiver Jordan Addison was limited in practice again sprained ankle,
but he says he'll play Sunday. Patriots running back Antonio
Gibson was limited with a hip injury. Saints defensive back
Marshawn Lattimore returned to full practice after a hip injury,
and Carolina running back Miles Sanders practice fully after being

(29:44):
limited yesterday with a finger injury. At the US Open
women's semifinals are done. Number six Jessica Pagoula of the
US dropped the first set and then won the next
two six to two, and the third to eliminate Carolina Mohova.
So Pegoula is into the final in New York set Saturday.
She'll face number two Arena Sablenka, who swept American Emma
Navarro men Simis are Tomorrow. In the WNBA, New York

(30:07):
beat Seattle and in the late game fourth quarter Washington's
leading at Phoenix to Major League Baseball. The late game
at San Diego went to the Tigers.

Speaker 5 (30:16):
So, yeah, did what?

Speaker 1 (30:17):
So I'll tell you I had a grand slam of
the ninth inning, two outs, two strikes, Yeah, buddy.

Speaker 4 (30:22):
Off, one hundred mile an hour fastball from the closer,
no less, and Detroit Steels won at San Diego four
to three, and Arizona played and lost on a run
at the bottom of the ninth at San Francisco three
to two on a ground rule double.

Speaker 3 (30:36):
And the Braves lost. That's everybody the Mets are competing
with all lost today.

Speaker 4 (30:41):
Atlanta lost at home three to one to Colorado and
the loss was to Rinaldo Lopez, who's when he's been
on the mound, has had a great season eleven strikeouts
tonight in six innings. But the Mets, who won seventh straight,
are tied with Atlanta for the final NL wildcard spot.
Philly's won their fifth in a row five to two
at Miami, and as you mentioned, Alex Morgan is retiring
from soccer. Her final match will be Sunday night with

(31:03):
San Diego. Morgan is fifth all time in goal scored
for the US women's team. Football update about two and
a half minutes to go at Kansas City Chiefs with
the ball and the lead over Baltimore twenty seven to twenty.

Speaker 1 (31:16):
Thank you, Steve O now stare because I have I
told you before the show I had a surprise for you,
y I had something to tell you because you always
bring up great stats and you always thank the great
stat aggregator Sarah Langs.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
Right, Sarah Langs, who one.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
Of the great researchers.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
Exactly, Yes, I mean I think in history, like who's
five people you'd like to have dinner with? Like you
would say like Napoleon, John F. Kennedy, Sarah Langs. Like
you bring up Sarah Langs all the time. Now, this
is not from great researcher Sarah Langs. This is from
Jason Smith's Facebook feed. So that's justine because I went
looking at no, no, no, no, This is absolutely the case.

(31:49):
The Al Central overall are thirty three games under five hundred.
White Sox, the Al White Size overall all fifteen total,
are thirty three games under five hundred. We are the Albatross.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
Four of those teams are all over five hundred. Four
of those teams have records over five hundred, So only
the White Sox.

Speaker 1 (32:13):
You're saying, yet, with one team under five hundred, the
entire division is still thirty three.

Speaker 3 (32:19):
Games, call it under five hundred. With what the White
Sox are doing, well, I can't don't have its.

Speaker 4 (32:25):
Own new term in their favor. Remember we talked a
few nights ago. Hey, these White Sox are already forty
eight and a half games back in the division. They're
still forty eight and a half games back, and they've
lost no ground the last three nights.

Speaker 3 (32:38):
And they're not going to catch the Oriols because what
were the or was it the Tigers? No? Sixty one?
The Orioles?

Speaker 4 (32:43):
Right, Orioles finished sixty one games out in twenty eighteen.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
That's gonna be tough to that one's gonna be tough.
Gonna be a tough one. Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (32:50):
I don't think under five hundred. We got to come
up with a new term. So they're shooting for the
expansion Mets record instead. Most losses in the.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
Season, worst record of all time is what is what
they're But they're on a two day stretch of no
losing with their win on Wednesday and being off tonight.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
It's a no losing two day streak for the White.
But it's also a reminder that if you hang around
with someone who's a knucklehead, no matter how good the
rest of you are, you get dragged down because look
at that division, right, Ramirez gets no love. We've talked
a little.

Speaker 4 (33:20):
Bit a great season for Cleveland, right, Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
We're talking forty forty. Nobody cares. Yeah, because he cares.
The Royals have been great and Bobby went junior. Yeah,
nobody Caressani's forty four to forty six. He's gonna be
fifty to fifty. No one cares. We haven't talked about
schoolbl in what six weeks? So, I mean, doesn't matter.
You're all brought down by the class knucklehead. My team, oh,
White Socks, four teams over the Guardians, twenty games over.

(33:48):
The Twins are twelve games over the Royals, are eleven
games over Detroit with that big grand slant. Tonight is
a game over, and yet the entire division is thirty
three games underfare.

Speaker 4 (33:59):
That happens when one team is thirty two and one
oh nine. That's how they've won what five games since
the All Star breaks sometime?

Speaker 6 (34:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (34:07):
Yeah, get that five cap five five? Thank you, Steve.
I do you'd like that? If you talk to Sarah Langs,
you can give her that and maybe she'll like. I
asked the guys in Baltimore today, so what happened? You
just decided you needed to drop one to the White Sox.
You ruin my twelve game streak and the road towards
infamy coming up next.

Speaker 1 (34:27):
It looks like the Ravens are getting the ball back
after Patrick Mahomes completes a pass to himself. So at
least I'll get that one point in.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
About that third and ten. Escaping out of the pocket,
he tries to throw across his body. The ball is
tipped in the air.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
Mahomes is able to cram it between two defensive players,
so he gets the reception. However, they will be punting,
so Lamar Jackson down a touchdown, we'll have a chance
to send this thing to overtime. Are we talking about overtime?
Are we talking about a chief's big victory? What are
we breaking down? It's night one of the NFL season.

(35:04):
Keep it right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
But Stan, I did tell you to not start Mark Andrews.
I told you Isaiah likely would have a big night.
Why are you not my friend anymore?

Speaker 3 (35:25):
Stan? I said Isaiah likely was gonna be the big
tight end, and Mark Andrews. Time is over. PS hit
me back. Hey, I'm tell you you don't get to
take a lot of victory laps when you make as
many predictions as we do. Taking day Isaiah likely one
because it may end to night. I don't know, but

(35:45):
for tonight I look like I actually might know something.
He is the only guy that's doing anything catching the
ball for the Ravens to two man game eight for
one oh seven and a touchdown. It's Stockton him alone. Lamarches. Yes,
they're both wearing the short shorts as well. Oh you know.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens have the ball about a
minute left to go, they are near midfield. They trail
the Chiefs twenty seven to twenty. Lamar Jackson, in a
career of escapes, this has to rate among the top.
On a third and two, it looked like he was
sacked and dead to rights at least three times, and

(36:25):
instead he somehow squirts forth for about twelve yards to
give the Ravens a first down and they keep the
drive going.

Speaker 3 (36:33):
He's up to one hundred and twenty two yards rushing
to go, along with two hundred and thirty five yards
passing and a touchdown. He is having a phenomenal night.
And I go back to what I said earlier in
the show. He is the best player on the field tonight.
And it's not close watching him. It's almost like we're
back to the days where it was Lamar doing his thing.

Speaker 1 (36:52):
We're all standing around watching like that's where And that's
a compliment for him that it's not great for the Ravens,
but it's watching Lamar Jackson. I feel like this is
a week eight week nine performance. In Week one, Mahomes
and the Chiefs look a little bit rough. Running the
ball is rough for both teams, but Jackson is the
one you would watch this game and go, man, I
can see why he's so good. I can see why

(37:14):
they're winning games the way they do. I can see
why he's the two time MVP because this is week
one with not a lot of work in the preseason,
and here's the night. He's at now up near three
hundred yards passing. Now, he just completed a pass for
about forty yards down to about the ten yard line.
He's up at two seventy five in a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
I mean it. He's the best player on the field
and Mahomes isn't even in shouting distance of him tonight.
Now Cohen presents fantastic finishes as we come up a
very long drawn out play. Now my guy likely hits
the board. He's holding his shoulder. This is not good.
As we get to ten seconds left, twenty seven to

(37:53):
twenty a bit of a time out here as medical
staff attends to him, but huge pass play to Bateman
them into striking range as you saw them again, buying time,
and then the effortless throw down field. Watching watching him
play is it's it's always fun, right, and you just say,
why can't we find him on top number one? You

(38:14):
don't get DeVante Adams out of out of Las Vegas.
You wanted to make him a jet, So I'll try
to speak him somewhere else. We got enough receivers in Chicago,
at least for the moment, but you never know. You
think you have enough.

Speaker 1 (38:28):
Stop Suddenly after a couple of weeks, it's hey, we
could kind of use I said, just like the Dodgers' pictures,
we got like eight guys that can start games.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
What kind of problems are we gonna have?

Speaker 1 (38:38):
Oh wait right now, it's uh, it's Flaherty and Gavin
Stone and then we don't have anybody else. Okay, all right,
well that's why I said for now, Meadhead, we'll figure out.
But yeah, watching him go just the and and he's
going through the progressions, there's nothing open, like nobody's breaking containment.
Uh Zay Flowers has been invisible here for a while, right,

(38:59):
he's been taken out. Derrick Henry had the rushing touchdown
earlier and that was it, right, one or two big
carries for him. Obviously, that fourth down conversion was huge earlier.
That set up eventually the field goal to make it
twenty seven to twenty. But it's really just been a
one man wrecking crew. And this is the type of
game you expect in the middle of the season where

(39:20):
you've had some attrition, where you've had you know, maybe
your lines beat up or whatever, and like that's the
one thing for that's got to be driving Harbon nuts
is the lack of cohesion and continuity and communication.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
On that offensive line. There's been a lot of screaming,
a lot of yelling, a couple of lined up inappropriately
right and you're not on the line they had that
happened back to back play It happened again later on
that negated another play for a first down. So some
some growing pains here in Week one.

Speaker 1 (39:51):
So here's where we sit right now. Isaya likely just
came off the field. There are ten seconds left in
the game and the Ravens have the on the Chiefs
ten yard line.

Speaker 3 (40:02):
It is second and goal.

Speaker 1 (40:04):
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens need a touchdown obviously, and
there is a miscommunication and Lamar Jackson does not connect
with a wide open Za Flowers in the back of
the end zone. Flowers breaks open, and this is one
of the big, one of the few missteps tonight. He
breaks to an open area and Lamar Jackson throws the

(40:24):
football behind him like like it was. It was a
bad pass by Lamar Jackson. Jay Flowers is wide.

Speaker 3 (40:30):
There's no yeah. He found the ever increasing the coverage
and was wide open.

Speaker 1 (40:35):
There's no defensive back within five yards either side. It
was an easy touchdown and Lamar Jackson overthrows him. So
it's gonna be an all or nothing play right now.
Hey love the NFL. Week one, five seconds left to go.
The Ravens with the ball from the ten yard line.
Lamar Jackson, it looks to the end zone, and it
looks like he hits touchdowns like they are likely back

(40:58):
in the game in the back of the the end zone.

Speaker 3 (41:00):
As time expires.

Speaker 1 (41:03):
It is a touchdown and it looks like John Harball
wants to go for two. Come on, man, give me
the justin talking to the point. Let's watch the replay.
Isaiah likely catches the ball, comes down.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
Ooh, I don't know how much can we Let's zoom in.

Speaker 3 (41:21):
Where's that thing they do in cop movies?

Speaker 2 (41:23):
How do we get it all the way in?

Speaker 1 (41:24):
Like Jack Bower when he would that's what she said.
It was like Jack Bower would say, it's twenty four enhance.
It looks like his toe might be on the zeo.
This may get overturned. Hey, you like drama, keep it here?

Speaker 3 (41:40):
